'When Calls the Heart' Creator Brian Bird Spills on Tonight's Finale and Season 14 Scoop (Exclusive)
For several decades, Brian Bird has built a storytelling legacy rooted in hope, family, faith, and community—and he’s not slowing down anytime soon.
As the producer, showrunner and co-creator of Hallmark’s When Calls the Heart, Bird continues to champion the Hearties—one of television’s most loyal fan communities. With the highly anticipated Season 13 finale just hours away and production already underway for Season 14, the future of Hope Valley is anything but quiet.
Off-screen, the cast is growing, too. Babies are on the way for WCTH stars Erin Krakow, Ben Rosenbaum, Kevin McGarry and Chris McNally. "We may need an on-set childcare center soon," Bird jokes.
Now, with his new documentary The Story of Everything hitting theaters April 30, Bird is expanding his reach and tackling one of life’s biggest questions: Does the universe itself point to an intelligent design?
Based on Stephen C. Meyer’s book Return of the God Hypothesis, the film blends science, philosophy and faith in a way Bird hopes will spark deeper conversations. The book also presents scientific evidence for the existence of God.
Bird stays busy, even when WCTH is on hiatus. "I always look for a project that uplifts people and invites meaningful dialogue,” he exclusively tells Parade. “We’re all sending messages every day and this is a deep dive into modern science and the origins of life in a powerful, hopeful way."
He continues: "I believe we send messages every day because everyone is making content. My worldview of hope, life and faith aligns well with my opportunity to get involved in an adaptation of a major book that delves into modern science on The Big Bang Theory. It has taken my partners and me five years of blood, sweat, tears and elbow grease to take this stunning and uplifting deep dive into science."
Extremely thankful for the devoted WCTH fans known as the Hearties, Bird said that he believes they will enjoy the movie because the content is unique.
"When Michael Landon, Jr. and I gave birth to WCTH (the first episode aired on January 11, 2014), we felt that a lot of the programming was bleak, cynical and dripping with cynicism,” Bird explains. "I think the Hearties will love the documentary for the same reason they appreciate When Calls the Heart—because it points to something bigger than themselves and it helps them head out of their fears and worries. It is about a bigger movement of hope."

On the heels of the WCTH Season 13 finale, Bird appreciates that the town of Hope Valley opens its arms to the residents of Benson Hills.
"What excites me about this season is that I wish I could live in Hope Valley," he says. "It takes place in the 1920s, but I hear so many people today say they wish the same thing."
"The storytelling was extremely epic with the raging wildfire and Hope Valley taking the people of Benson Hills into their arms and caring for them. I thought it was a beautiful way to talk about the importance of community," he continues. "Community has always been important to us. Hope Valley is as much of a star; the virtues and values of Hope Valley have been super important."
He adds that he continues to appreciate the evolution of Henry Gowen (Martin Cummins). During the early days of WCTH, Henry was a "guy who was trying to kick women who lost their husbands out of their housing and later found his own personal redemption. He went from a ruthless man to tending hazelnut trees in his older age, and trying to be a good father to his son and help his son turn into a good man."

Bird is also excited that Season 13 continued to pay homage to characters of the past. For example, Jack Thornton has been gone since Season 5, which is a whole eight seasons ago. "But he is still honored in such a rich, fulfilling, and emotional way," he says. "There are two or three good cries in every episode this season."
Prior to WCTH, Bird was a key writer and co-executive producer on several seasons of Touched by an Angel. "When we were building [that show], every episode had to have at least one good cry," he explains. "With When Calls the Heart, I want to continue to make content that helps people through the joys and challenges of their lives." With romance blossoming and an engagement looming for Elizabeth (Krakow) and Nathan (McGarry), Bird explains that their story is really just beginning.
“A lot of people will talk about courtships and say that when they are finally married, the storyline is over," he explains. "But I don’t think a potential engagement or marriage is the end to their storytelling."
"Future seasons will focus on a show about how this couple is going to adjust to being a family now," he teases. "I’m excited as I peek in right now for Season 14—it is as fun and epic as this season. The audience needs to buckle up and not get too comfortable with Nathan and Elizabeth—because there is more coming."
When asked if there is a wedding on the horizon for Season 14, he slyly replies, "No comment—the writing is on the wall." Sheesh!
Two other pivotal characters whom Bird enjoys in the series are married couple Rosemary (Pascale Hutton) and Lee (Kavan Smith) because of their evolution. Rosemary first arrived in Hope Valley as a villain who was a thorn in Elizabeth’s side.
"But Rosemary found new purpose," he reflects. "For me, Rosemary and Lee are the glue that keeps Hope Valley together and keep us coming back for more. They are fun and funny, and fans appreciate them appearing together in their Hallmark movies."
He continues: "They are the Lucy and Ricky on our set. They are true comic gold. Their comic timing is so amazing, and they present such a beautiful human side to many emotional and dramatic scenes."
Kavan Smith, Ellie Sweiss and Pascale HuttonHe mentioned Rosemary and Lee becoming foster parents to Gwendolyn—a young girl from Benson Hills whose father was hospitalized after the fire and had no available caretaker. "I am a big fan of foster and adoption stories," says Bird. "Two of my five children were adopted, and I know this is super necessary in our world.”

Bird acknowledges that women have it difficult on the frontier. "I am a big fan of the idea that women—especially mothers—are the glue that keeps the world from blowing up," he shares. "I believe they save the world every day."
He continues: "That’s what the premise of WCTH is—a bunch of women who lost their husbands in a terrible mine disaster and had to pick up the pieces and put back the pieces of the town. Strong women having robust action in their lives. We need more women to take over things. The women are the kings of Hope Valley."
Season 13 also saw the return of several notable guest stars—including Melissa Gilbert, Lori Loughlinand Brooke Shields. Gilbert came to Hope Valley in Season 12 and continued into Season 13, attracting many Little House on the Prairie fans.
Brooke Shields plays Jack's mom Charlotte. In Season 13, Shields returned as Charlotte—Jack Thornton’s mom and Little Jack (LJ’s) grandmother. "We see his mother getting closure over the loss of her son and caring for her grandson," says Bird. "Jack died in Season 5, yet in the current season, his mother is visiting his grave for the first time. That was a beautiful and deeply emotional scene to hear her talking to her deceased son and it involved echoes of the past."
As we anticipate the Season 13 finale, Hallmark+ is premiering Hope Valley: 1874—a WCTH prequel series starring Bethany Joy Lenz and Benjamin Ayres. Bird and Landon, Jr. are executive producers. While they are not writing the new show, they do read the scripts and provide notes.

When asked if he could have predicted WCTH's success, Bird responds, "No, not at all. We believed we were making something good. We also knew that the odds were against us being successful. Because in general, it is so hard to launch a new show and find a way to break through all the noise."
He continues: “Michael and I love all of the writers and are humbled, blessed, and amazed at how the audience has responded to these shows. With my faith and family legacy, we are trying to launch a good show that offers the kind of content that we believe in. We don’t take any of it for granted. As long as you [the Hearties and other viewers] keep showing up, we will keep making this content for you."
From the beginning, Bird reveals that they called WCTH "the little show that could." He adds, "It was modest, and everyone sacrificed to get it done. We were kind of stunned when it took off."
He said there are more than two million viewers who identify as Hearties—growing from a grassroots fan base—and made WCTH the top-rated Sunday night scripted show on cable. They not only love the series, but also have become their own close-knit community.

In sum, Bird describes Season 13 of WCTH as epic. "What other show can say in Season 13 that it’s getting better?" he asks. "Sometimes you feel you are losing steam, but we don’t feel that way about WCTH; it’s only growing and building with each new chapter."
The Season 13 finale of When Calls the Heart premieres tonight—Sunday, March 22 at 8/7c on Hallmark. Hope Valley: 1874 premieres on Saturday, March 21 on Hallmark+ with a new episode available every Thursday beginning on March 26.

The Genius '3-Shoe' Carry-On Rule I Wish I Knew Sooner
It’s becoming more and more popular to travel with just a carry-on. Especially with airlines nickel-and-diming customers for every little thing, sometimes it can be a huge money saver to forgo checking a bag. It also helps to relieve the stress of losing your luggage while flying (which happens so often these days). Plus, while you’re traveling, having a simple carry-on as your only bag can make hopping from city to city much simpler.
I’m quite the carry-on pro, especially after living out of a suitcase on a Broadway tour for an entire year. Now, I’ve truly learned how to pair down and pack much more strategically. I go on multiple trips a year, and if any trip is less than two weeks, I usually just bring a carry-on with me. I’ve really gotten it down to a science of exactly what I pack inside my carry-on, and I’m about to share a tip that may make this feat way easier for you, too.
Related: A New Study Shows That Your Dirtiest Travel Item Is Not What You Might Think
Plan Your Outfits Around Your ShoesIn a Yahoo article by Jill Schildhouse, a woman who goes on over 50 flights per year, she shared one of her top packing tips–and I couldn’t agree more with it. In the article, she explains that you shouldn’t plan and pack your outfits first, then figure out shoes that can go with each outfit. Instead, you should start with choosing your shoes. I personally like to stick to the three shoe rule: only packing a comfortable walking shoe, a shoe that is specific to the climate that you’ll be in, and a decorative and fashionable shoe for evenings.
By starting with shoes (and by only packing three) you will then have to make sure that the outfits you pick go with at least one of the pairs of shoes. You get extra points if the outfits can fit multiple pairs of shoes. This will ultimately stop you from “throwing in an extra pair” just because one of the outfits you chose doesn’t go with any of the shoes you planned to pack. Instead, force yourself to stick to the three pairs of shoes, and the rest will fall into place.

How To Pack Your Shoes In Your Carry-OnOnce you’ve figured out exactly what shoes and clothing you’ll be bringing, it’s time to organize them in your carry-on. First, always plan to wear your bulkiest pair of shoes as you travel. Then, keep the lightest pair to pack in your carry-on. I’ve recently been covering my shoes in reusable shower caps, that way they don’t get the rest of the items in my luggage dirty. Then, I’ve found that if you place your shoes in the luggage first, it actually optimizes the space the best.
For example, if you take your shoes and place one shoe laying on the bottom of the suitcase, and another lining the side, they will be completely out of the way for the rest of your belongings. I always place my clothes in compression packing cubes, and you can easily place them on top of the shoes. Since shoes don’t really have much wiggle room in their shape, it’s easier to maneuver the packing cubes to fit into certain spots versus trying to force a shoe to fit in the carry-on. The only time that I place shoes on top is if I’m bringing a very flat pair of sandals, and in that case, it’s easy to lay them on top of everything and then close the suitcase.

Quote of the Day: Eleanor Roosevelt on Working Toward Peace
There are few First Ladies more famous than Eleanor Roosevelt. Not only was she First Lady of the United States from 1933 to 1945 during her husband, President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s, presidency. But she was also blazing a trail in her own right at the same time, making history while fighting for human rights on all fronts. In doing so, she spoke out many times in favor of peace, and her actions followed suit.
Per Biography Online, Roosevelt was eventually appointed as a delegate to the UN General Assembly and was a major player in the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Her causes centered around not just general human rights, but specifically equal rights for women, civil rights for African Americans, and she fought against housing shortages and unemployment. Her husband was president at such a pivotal and chaotic time in the United States, what with the Great Depression going on when he was elected (which FDR helped fight with his New Deal) and World War II starting abroad in 1939. Then, the bombing of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, made way for the United States to get involved in WWII, and the rest is history. So to say Eleanor Roosevelt had her hands full with humanitarian causes is an understatement.
During this time and until she died in 1962, she wrote columns and was also frequently on the radio; she appeared on radio shows and even hosted her own programs, per the Eleanor Roosevelt Papers Project. And that’s where our quote of the day comes from; Roosevelt spoke of peace not just as a concept, but as something tangible we should all fight for.

Quote of the Day by Eleanor RooseveltCanvaPro/Parade
“It isn't enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn't enough to believe in it. One must work at it.”
Being that Eleanor Roosevelt went on radio shows often, she was frequently on the Voice of America program. As Biography Online reported, on Nov. 11, 1951, Roosevelt delivered a broadcast and said these iconic words about peace. The United States was in the Korean War at the time, the Cold War was fresh and ongoing, and the Second Red Scare was underway on American soil. Not to mention, World War II had just ended not even six years prior.
The full sentiment she said was: “I think that what you want to know—especially you, the women of postwar Europe—is whether you shall be able, tomorrow, to tell your children, that peace is, at long last, a reality. It isn't enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn't enough to believe in it. One must work at it.”
This wasn’t her first comment on peace either, nor her last. In a My Day column she wrote that went out on June 26, 1945, at the tail end of WWII, she commended the men working on the San Francisco conference to charter or create the United Nations. She said that their work was meant to “bring forth” something akin to the “kingdom of God on earth,” aka peace.
“There can be no kingdom of God on earth as long as men hate each other, settling their difficulties through wars and bringing sorrow and suffering on other men,” she wrote. “Once you begin a war there is, of course, nothing to do but to fight it to the end; so the effort for peace must be made while the nations are at peace.”
As you can tell, Eleanor Roosevelt was not just a woman of powerful words; she was a woman of action who lived what she preached. According to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, President Truman appointed Roosevelt to the United Nations General Assembly after its creation in late 1945, after her husband died. With her work in the United Nations, which was created to broker international peace and security post-World War II, she actively worked toward that goal. As stated earlier, and as the Bill of Rights Institute reported, she helped draft the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted in 1948.

Deeper Meaning of Eleanor Roosevelt’s Quote: PeaceEleanor Roosevelt said this quote at a very specific time in history. The United States had gone through a lot of turmoil, along with the rest of the world: the Great Depression, WWII, the ongoing Korean War, the Cold War, etc. It felt like there was no relief from the threat of not just bombs in Europe and wherever our soldiers were abroad, but now a potential nuclear holocaust in America.
With this quote, Roosevelt is urging people to take a deeper look at what peace means to them, urging others to push for it themselves. It wasn’t enough to just talk about peace, saying that you “hope” things become peaceful eventually and that wars will end. But you had to believe in it and work toward that goal. She may have been mostly referring to leaders who held the power to wage and stop wars. American politicians could talk about how much they hated war until they were blue in the face, but until they did the work she was doing, they were all talk and no action.
While this was said decades before the Vietnam War and the subsequent protests against it—not to mention any wars that have happened since or are happening as of now—it’s easy to see how this mindset could inspire anyone who opposes war. You have to make your voice heard and let those in power know that peace is of the utmost importance.

- “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
- “When a woman fails, it is much more serious than when a man fails, because the average person attributes that failure not to the individual, but to the fact that she is a woman.”
- “I believe that democracy is based on the ability to make democracy serve the good of the majority of the people. If it can’t do that, then it should not survive.”
- “The very weaknesses of human nature are what make it so important that we keep a constantly watchful eye on our government, and that in turn our government watches us with equal care.”

Universal Orlando Just Unveiled a Huge Twist for Fall 2026
If you're a fan of high-production travel experiences, you know that fall in Orlando belongs to one event: Halloween Horror Nights. It's the undisputed heavyweight champion of the season, and as it gears up for a massive 35th-anniversary milestone in 2026, the creative masterminds at Universal are pulling a move that has "insider" fans and casual trend-watchers alike buzzing.
For the first time ever, the event is leaning into a single, unified "Infernal Carnival" theme that brings together the most legendary characters in the park’s history.
The big news isn't just that the event is back; it’s that Universal is finally "pairing up" its two most famous original villains: Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow. Think of this as the ultimate crossover event—the kind of "must-see" moment that defines the travel year.
Related: Six Flags Announces a Spooky New Spring Surprise for 2026
These two characters have been rivals for decades, with a backstory that involves them literally trying to out-do (and out-kill) each other since the early 2000s. But for the 35th year, they are setting aside their differences to host what Universal is calling the "Infernal Carnival of Nightmares." It’s a clever bit of branding, too; the initials of that theme spell out I.C.O.N., a direct nod to the characters that have made this event a global phenomenon.
Mike Aiello, Universal Orlando’s senior director of Entertainment Creative Development, shared withUSA TODAY that this year is all about giving guests the "epic battle" they’ve been waiting for.
Related: Universal Announces its 2026 Events Lineup
The first haunted house announced for the 2026 season is titled “Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control,” and it serves as a sort of "prequel" to the entire event. It’s designed to be a psychological journey through a realm called the "Oddverse," where guests will experience the decades-long battle between Jack’s "pure chaos" and Oddfellow’s "cerebral control" firsthand.
For the traveler who appreciates a well-told story, this level of immersive world-building is exactly why HHN has become a bucket-list destination that transcends the "scary" label.
As the event continues to trend as the biggest seasonal draw in the country, it’s also becoming more accessible for those who might be a little "scare-wary." While the 2026 specifics are still under wraps, Universal has been experimenting with ways to let guests enjoy the incredible artistry and sets without being the primary target for a jump-scare.
Between the shorter wait times on regular park rides during the event and the sheer level of detail in the "scare zones," it’s become as much about the spectacle as it is the screams. The festivities officially kick off on August 28 and run through November 1, 2026, making it the perfect centerpiece for an early fall getaway.
If you're planning to head down for the Infernal Carnival, the "stay and scare" strategy is definitely the way to go. Universal’s signature hotels offer a major perk that seasoned travelers swear by: a dedicated entrance for hotel guests that can save you from those massive front-gate lines.
For the opening weekend starting August 28, 2026, Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort is a fantastic "in the know" pick at around $244 a night. It’s got that fun 1950s-inspired vibe and is often the home of exclusive HHN photo ops and themed lounges that you won't find anywhere else.
If you want the true "VIP" experience, Loews Royal Pacific Resort (around $702 a night right now) is the gold standard. The best part about staying there is that it includes Unlimited Express Passes for the regular park rides, which is a massive value during those busy event nights. For a middle-ground option, Loews Sapphire Falls Resort is sitting at $299 and offers a quick water taxi ride that drops you right in the heart of CityWalk, just steps away from the fog.
Whether you’re there for the nostalgia of seeing Jack the Clown return or just want to see the "World’s Best" theme park at its most creative, the Infernal Carnival is officially the "it" event of the year.

4 Birth Dates Have the Most Emotional Resilience
Life can come at us quickly, and it can be challenging to navigate each obstacle that arises. All day, I find myself daydreaming about my upcoming spring break escape to the French West Indies. St. Barths and St. Martin have long been favorites of mine—equal parts effortless and indulgent—and getting there is part of the ritual. With a connecting flight, and sometimes a ferry or small plane involved, packing light isn’t just a preference; it’s essential.
As someone who has covered shopping and travel for outlets like Coveteur, Martha Stewart Weddings and Harper’s Bazaar, I’ve tested countless suitcases, organizers, beauty minis and accessories. After trying just about everything, these are the items that are always in my carry-on, no matter where I’m headed.
I’ve learned that less really is more on trips like this. I focus on versatile pieces that can be worn multiple ways, fabrics that travel well, and essentials that truly earn their place. Everything has to work together, mix easily, and feel right for long, sun-soaked days that turn into relaxed evenings. Here are the pieces I always bring to make sure I’m ready for time in the sun—without overpacking.

This 2012 Cruise Ship Was Just Ranked the No. 1 Most Popular in the World
Just like a 1969 rock anthem that never goes out of style, there are certain cruise ships that travelers return to year after year. While the industry is currently obsessed with "bigger and flashier," a new report from Cruise Critic reveals that the ships actually capturing the most attention right now are the ones that balance sophisticated luxury with a "home away from home" feel.
For the second year in a row, the Celebrity Reflection has claimed the top spot in its survey as the most popular ship in the world. Despite being built in 2012, this Solstice-class beauty remains the gold standard for travelers who want a polished experience without the chaotic crowds of a 7,000-passenger vessel. With its iconic half-acre of real grass at the Lawn Club and its private Retreat enclave for suite guests, it’s the ultimate example of a ship that has aged like a fine wine.

View this post on Instagram The 8 Ships Dominating 2026 TravelThe rankings, which tracked millions of searches between 2025 and 2026, show a clear trend: travelers are looking for "smart" luxury and ships that have recently received major glow-ups in recent years.
- The Royal Favorite:Independence of the Seas remains the only Royal Caribbean ship on the list, beloved for its "Royal Amplified" upgrades like the laser tag arena and water slides that keep the grandkids happy while you enjoy the Royal Promenade.
- The New ‘Instant Classic’:Norwegian Aqua, launched just last year, is already a top-four contender. It’s proving that you can have a "world first" feature—like the Aqua Slidecoaster—without sacrificing the spaciousness travelers crave.
- The Elegant All-Star:Enchanted Princess continues to win over the "in the know" crowd thanks to its Medallion technology, which makes everything from opening your cabin door to ordering a poolside drink completely effortless.
- The ‘Sleek, Edge-Class Cool Kid’:Celebrity Xcel is the latest, gorgeous addition to the Edge-class and it’s truly exceptional. I recently went on it and loved the high-energy Bazaar—a three-deck destination hub—and the rooftop restaurant Bora, which offers a Mediterranean "brunch-all-day" experience that is a total mood.

Why the ‘Modern Classics’ are WinningWhat’s most interesting for the savvy traveler is that many of these ships—like the Celebrity Silhouette and Majestic Princess—are reaping the benefits of massive, multi-million dollar refurbishments. They offer brand-new dining concepts, refreshed cabins, and "infinite veranda" views, but at a price point that is often much more "steal" than "splurge."
If you’re planning a milestone trip for 2026 or 2027, these eight ships are the ones to watch. They aren't just trending; they are the "best-of-all-time" picks that guarantee you won't be playing "travel roulette" with your hard-earned vacation time.

Woman Driving Through Pennsylvania Countryside Calls It ‘Ireland in a Carhartt Jacket’ and as a Pa Native, She Couldn’t Be More Right
Those who have never been to Pennsylvania may associate the state with it's largest cities, like Philly, Pittsburgh, and Allentown. However, a whole lot of land lies between those hubs, and most of it is wide open spaces and greenery that is breathtaking to behold.
In fact, some people find the landscape, which is frequently dotted by the ruins of old cobblestone farmhouses and buildings, reminiscent of far off lands. One woman is even going viral on Instagram for a video she captured of one of these locations, where she hilariously referred to the state as "Ireland in a Carhartt jacket," and as someone who has lived in the state for most of her life, I 100 percent agree with the sentiment.

♬ Fairytale (From "Shrek") - Geek Music Woman's Video About Pennsylvania Countryside Goes ViralThe aptly named Instagrammer @pennsylvaniajunkie posted a beautiful video of a babbling brook running through a verdant countryside that featured the ruins of a stone farmhouse next to a large farm, which she says she captured while en route to Virginia.
"This scene is why I pull my car over on the side of the road," she said to the camera before flipping the screen around to show off the landscape. "Proof that Pennsylvania is just Ireland in a Carhartt jacket," she wrote on the video while the music from the movie Shrek.

Commenters Laughed About her 'Side Quest'The video was also captioned with a note about how she's always late because she frequently takes on these "PA side quests" to stop and admire the scenery. "From someone who did not grow up in Pennsylvania, but it is now our forever home, I’ve been saying from the first day I came here: 'Pennsylvania is the most beautiful place to live,'" one person wrote.
"This is the most accurate take I’ve ever heard lol," another person added.
As a Pennsylvania native, I can confirm that this is the right take, and I readily admit that this video could've been filmed just about anywhere in the state...yes, even right outside of Philadelphia. That's because this state truly is full of wonderful spots like this, including back where I grew up in Bucks County.
However, several commenters pointed out that our "Ireland in a Carhartt jacket" state is losing a lot of open spaces to the warehouses that are popping up everywhere. "Pennsylvanian here; we’re slowly being swallowed up by warehouses and data centers," one person added.

Pennsylvania and Ireland Have More in Common Than You May ThinkAccording to Vivid Maps, once upon a time, the Appalachian Mountain trail that runs through Pennsylvania once ran through the UK, connecting with some of the Scottish Highlands as well.
They were all connected thanks to the supercontinent of Pangea, which existed up until the Premian Triassic period, hundreds of millions of years ago. While no humans were around to see this landmass, it's clear that the connection to those times still runs deep in the roots of Pennsylvania and its heritage.

Inolait Folding Rattan Coffee Table, $43 (was $137) at Macy's Shop at Macy'sA folding table is one of the smartest additions to any outdoor area with limited space because it provides an extra surface when you need it, then folds flat and stores away when you don’t. This kind of versatility can make spending time outdoors more enjoyable without overwhelming your space.
Described as "stylish and sturdy," the light gray rattan weave gives this patio table an elevated, resort-like vibe that looks way more expensive than the current price. Crafted with polyethylene (PE) rattan, a synthetic material that's designed to mimic natural rattan wicker, it is UV- and weather-proof. The PE rattan is handwoven over a rust-resistant metal frame, making this table simultaneously low-maintenance and durable.
Measuring approximately 24 inches long, 16 inches wide, and 16 inches tall, this patio table is the perfect compact choice for small spaces. It weighs just over 9 pounds, making it easy to move around. When not in use, the legs fold inward, collapsing the table to just a few inches thick for easy storage in a shed, garage, or even indoors under a bed or in the back of a closet during the off-season.

1979 Classic Rock Song Was a No. 1 Hit 46 Years Ago Today
In 1980, Pink Floyd scored a rare chart triumph when “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2” became the band’s only No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
By that point, the group was already one of the biggest acts in the world—but a true pop-chart takeover had largely eluded them. That changed when this unlikely single, pulled from their ambitious concept album The Wall, connected with a global audience.
Released in November 1979 and written by Roger Waters, “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2” was conceived as a sharp critique of rigid and oppressive schooling. Within the larger narrative of The Wall, the song represents a pivotal moment in which the album’s protagonist begins to internalize childhood trauma, turning it into another “brick” in the emotional barrier he’s building around himself.
One of the song’s most distinctive elements came from an unexpected source: a children’s choir.
At the suggestion of producer Bob Ezrin, a group of schoolchildren was brought in to sing the now-iconic chorus. According to XFM's Head of Music Mike Walsh in the book "The XFM Top 1000 Songs of All Time," the track “memorably features a choir of children from Islington Green School whose North London accents give the track much of its flavour.” That contrast—youthful voices delivering a rebellious message—helped give the song its unforgettable edge.
The production itself also took a surprising turn. Ezrin encouraged the band to incorporate elements of disco, a controversial suggestion at the time. While the band initially resisted, the added groove helped make the track more accessible—and ultimately more radio-friendly.
Even so, the song’s rise wasn’t entirely straightforward. Its lyrics sparked backlash in some circles, with critics taking issue with its anti-establishment tone. In some countries, the song was even banned after being adopted as a protest anthem.
None of that slowed its momentum.
“Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2” went on to top charts around the world, including the U.S. and the U.K., and sold millions of copies. It also became the Christmas No. 1 in the U.K. in 1979 before crossing over to dominate American radio the following year.
Decades later, it remains one of Pink Floyd’s most enduring songs—a rare fusion of concept-album ambition and mainstream success that turned a pointed social critique into a global hit.
Why More Travelers Are Ditching Packed Itineraries for Slow Travel (And Loving It More)
If the idea of planning a vacation packed full of excursions and long days sounds exhausting to you, and instead fantasize about morning walks to grab coffee with relaxing afternoons of taking in your surroundings, you are not alone.
In 2026, a growing number of travelers are embracing a new trend known as “soft travel.” According to Vrbo, 91 percent of travelers say they’re interested in slower, simpler trips built around rest, reading, nature and meaningful experiences. This blissful way to seeing the world is being coined as "soft travel" and it's becoming a top priority
What Is Soft Travel?Soft travel is a mindset as much as a travel style. It blends elements of slow tourism, wellness travel, and “soft adventure,” like focusing on ease, comfort, and connection rather than intensity or checklists.
Melanie Fish of Expedia, Vrbo, and Hotels.com, told CNBC, “It’s this slow travel movement. People just want a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.”
Instead of rushing between landmarks, soft travelers prioritize:
- Slower itineraries
- Fewer destinations
- Deeper cultural experiences
- Time to rest and recharge
In short: soft travel is about how a trip feels, not how much you accomplish.
Related: This Luxury Resort Just Turned Easter Into a Chocolate Lover's Dream Getaway
Why Soft Travel Is Gaining PopularityThe rise of soft travel isn’t random, it’s a direct response to how people are feeling in 2026.
- Burnout is driving travel decisions: After years of fast-paced living, many travelers are craving rest, quiet, and mental reset. Industry reports show a growing demand for trips that prioritize emotion and well-being over sightseeing.
- Travelers want more meaningful experiences: Instead of “checking off” destinations, people are seeking authentic, local experiences, like cooking classes, nature immersion, or cultural rituals.
- A shift away from overtourism: Crowded destinations are losing appeal. Travelers are increasingly opting for off-the-beaten-path or quieter locations where they can actually relax.
- Wellness travel is booming: Nature-based wellness, such as forests, hot springs, and coastal retreats, are now one of the fastest-growing segments of travel.
Put simply, people aren’t just traveling to escape, they’re traveling to feel better.
The Explore WorldWide Travel Report found that "...customers booking trips of more than 8 days has grown 19 percent since last year, showing a clear appetite for longer, slower travel experiences."
Where to Experience the Best Soft TravelIf you’re ready to embrace this trend, here are some of the best destinations for soft travel in 2026:

♬ original sound - Lederrius Nocturnal How to Travel “Soft”You don’t need a specific destination to embrace soft travel, it’s about how you approach your trip.
Try this:
- Plan one or two key activities per day, not ten
- Build in time for rest and spontaneity
- Stay longer in one place instead of hopping around
- Choose accommodations that emphasize comfort and calm
- Disconnect from your phone when possible

In 1956, Lennon founded the Quarrymen, described as a skiffle group. Four years later, the band composed of Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, solidified their core, changed their name, and never looked back.

But for our purposes here, we’re focused on the masterworks that sprung from the heart, mind, and soul of the bespectacled, shaggy-haired rock pioneer.
In a recent roundup published by Uncut, the team, including Paul Weller, guitarist and principal singer and songwriter of The Jam, picked 30 songs from the music legend's discography, and the results range from “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy),” “Dear Prudence,” and "Across the Universe,” to “Revolution,” “Imagine,” and “Give Peace a Chance.”
In a foreword, written by Lennon’s wife, Japanese artist Yoko Ono, Ono shares a peek into Lennon’s writing style.
“He wasn’t one of those writers who’d write from 10 until 12 in the morning,” she said. “He used to think of an idea when we were in a plane or something. He just writes it down. And at the time he writes it down, he’s already got the melody.”
The songs of Lennon cover a vast emotional scope, with tracks spanning raw rock and introspective drama, razor-sharp commentary and biting wit. His hits could be moody, angry, playful, and dreamy all in the same era.
“John didn’t have a narrow talent,” Ono writes. “He had all the different emotions he was able to express in his songs. If you want to analyze it, his mum wasn’t around, and his dad wasn’t around, and he wanted someone to listen to him when he was a little boy.”
Listen we did. And listen we still do.
John Lennon’s Best Song of All TimeAt the top of the list: “Strawberry Fields Forever.”
According to the magazine, the track was written in Spain, while Lennon was filming Richard Leser’s How I Won the War. Released in February 1967, the song peaked at No. 2 on the U.K. chart and No. 8 in the U.S., per Billboard. No one needs a chart to tell them how good “Strawberry Fields Forever" is though.
“[This] is my all time favorite,” Weller says. “I can still remember when I first heard it on the radio; I was only 9 at the time. I didn’t know anything about drugs or psychedelia, I just knew it was a great, great tune.”
He adds, “Technically, the production on ‘Strawberry Fields’ is phenomenal. … For me, it’s the first psychedelic record. People talk about “See My Friends” by The Kinks, but “Strawberry Fields” is far more experimental. George Martin did a brilliant job editing together the two different sections; the key change in the middle is amazing. I still always return to it. It’s one of those tracks where you still hear something new every time you hear it, it’s got so many textures. For me it’s still unsurpassed.”
Fans of the song know that the title refers to a real place, Liverpool’s Strawberry Field, a Salvation Army site where Lennon played during his childhood, SPIN magazine shares. But fans might be surprised by the story behind the story.
The Story Behind the SongIn David Sheff’sThe Playboy Interviews With John Lennon & Yoko Ono, via Salon, Lennon reveals that there were two famous houses located near his childhood home, nicknamed the Mendips, where he lived for 15 years with his Aunt Mimi.
“One was owned by Gladstone: a reformatory for boys, which I could see out my window,” Lennon says, “and Strawberry Field, just around the corner from that, [which was] an old Victorian house converted for Salvation Army orphans.”
A mansion built in 1870, Strawberry Field was turned into a home for girls in 1936 by the Salvation Army. And even though many believe it’s that orphanage that inspired the song, Salon reports that it was actually the Gladstone mansion, or “the bad boys’ borstal” that housed young offenders, that serves as its inspiration.
For proof, the outlet points to Sheff's book, which shares Lennon saying, “My influences are tremendous, from Lewis Carroll to Oscar Wilde to tough little kids that used to live near me who ended up in prison and things like that.”
It can be misleading, but as far as research goes, the song gets its dreamy, rose-colored title from the orphanage down the street, but the lyrics were born from the somber narrative of Lennon’s hardships growing up in Liverpool.
The 'Ultimate Rock Star'In 2018, Forbes declared Lennon the “Ultimate Rock Star,” writing, “It's the courage and the way he followed his own path that defines Lennon's stature as the ultimate rock star.”
It’s that relentless pursuit of voice and authenticity that still resonates in every corner of modern music, from the biggest stages to the haziest strawberry fields.
