1988 Release Became an Unexpected No. 1 Hit 38 Years Ago Today
On March 25, 1988, audiences flocked to theaters to see a new comedy-drama that would quickly—and unexpectedly—top the box office: Biloxi Blues.
The film, based on a semi-autobiographical and acclaimed play by Neil Simon and serving as the second installment in the Eugene trilogy, following Brighton Beach Memoirs and leading into Broadway Bound, starred Matthew Broderick, just a few years after the success of Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Broderick was already familiar with the lead character, Eugene Morris Jerome, portraying him on Broadway years prior, beginning in March 1985, where the play ran at the Neil Simon Theatre for a little over a year until June 1986.
Despite his established popularity and familiarity with the role, the film still faced some stiff competition for eyeballs and box office dollars in the late '80s, including from Johnny Be Good, the teen comedy starring Anthony MichaelHall and Robert Downey Jr., which was released theatrically on the same day.
Other films debuting in theaters in March of 1988 included Moving, SwitchingChannels, Off Limits, Standand Deliver and Police Academy 5: Assignment: Miami Beach.
However, Biloxi Blues resonated with viewers due to a winning formula–equal parts humor, heart and a coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of World War II.
"Biloxi Blues" starring starring Matthew Broderick and Christopher Walken hit theatres today back in 1988. #80s pic.twitter.com/B10cjoUoSi
— Bite-Sized Nostalgia (@landofthe80s) March 25, 2026Broderick used the film to showcase his range, moving away from the teen-comedy genre to a more nuanced, character-driven role, which helped solidify him as a versatile actor who could handle anything thrown at him. His role as Eugene, a young soldier traveling from Brooklyn to navigate basic army training in Biloxi, Mississippi, helped solidify his status beyond the teen heartthrob label, establishing him as a leading Hollywood star and opening doors for future films like Torch Song Trilogy, Glory and The Freshman.
Debuting at number one in the box office and earning critical praise, the film succeeded due to its sharp wit, relatable characters and the memorable performances, which also starred the already established Christopher Walken, who delivered a standout supporting performance as the tough and unforgettable Sergeant Toomey.
Simon’s adaptation brought the play to a wider audience while exploring themes of growth, authority, and friendship, showing the human side of soldiers preparing for war.
Though it dropped to the second spot the following weekend, Biloxi Blues earned its place in ’80s film history, to this day celebrated by fans for smart comedy with a touch of nostalgia.

Bindi Irwin Celebrates Her Daughter’s Birthday in a Big Way
Conservationist and former Dancing with the Stars champ Bindi Irwin is carrying on her father, Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin’s legacy. And someday, her daughter Grace may take the reins. But for now, she’ll have to settle for cuddling with her celeb mom, giggling, and hanging with her friends at the Australia Zoo.
So why isn’t Irwin’s daughter ready to step into her shoes right now? Well, that might have something to do with the fact that the little girl just turned five! In a touching Instagram post, Irwin wrote, “March 25. The most meaningful day of my life. On this day every year we celebrate two wonderful events. Our wedding anniversary, and Grace’s birthday.”
View this post on InstagramThat’s right, Irwin’s daughter was born one year to the day after her famous mama’s wedding. Irwin married professional wakeboarder and conservationist Chandler Powell on March 25, 2020. In 2021, the pair welcomed their first (and as of now only) child, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell.
Along with sweet snapshots snuggling with Grace, a birthday cake pic, and throwbacks to her wedding day, the proud mommy/wife went on to add (in her recent post), “Our beautiful daughter was born on our first wedding anniversary (what are the chances?).” Happy fifth birthday to our sunshine, and happy sixth wedding anniversary to my incredible husband. I love you both with all my heart.”
Irwin’s doting husband added his own comment, writing to his wife, “Grace and I are the luckiest humans to have you. March 25 will always be the most special day. I love you.”
Of course, Grace’s parents weren’t the only ones who took to social media, posting birthday well-wishes. The Wiggles made an absolutely adorable clip, starting off their video by gushing, “We’re sending you a big happy fifth birthday…We hope your day is filled with adventure, love, and of course, animals.” Grace was also treated to a big birthday shout-out from Uncle Robert Irwin’s Dancing with the Stars professional partner Witney Carson McAllister, members of the Australian band Shepperd, the University of Oregon Duck (last July, an upside-down pic of the mascot and the Irwins down under went viral), Doug the Pug, children’s entertainers Emma Memma and Elvin Melvin, and a few other special friends.
View this post on InstagramThe Australia Zoo captioned the post, “Happy Birthday to our 5-year-old Wildlife Warrior, Grace. We wanted to share some wonderful birthday wishes from our friends.” And like everyone in this playful post, we also want to wish Grace a very special fifth birthday!
Dorinda Medley Says She’s Done Letting Grief Define Her on 'The Golden Life' E! Series
After making grief a defining part of her journey on The Real Housewives of New York City, Dorinda Medley is ready to turn the page with her new E! series The Golden Life, shifting the focus to who she is now.
During her six-season run on RHONY, Dorinda was open about life as a widow following the death of her husband, Dr. Richard Medley, after a battle with cancer. Grief became a recurring part of her story, including a deeply emotional trip to England with Carole Radziwill to retrieve the ashes of Carole’s late husband, Anthony.
Dorinda, who lived in London for a decade and has a strong personal connection to the city, joined as a source of emotional support. The trip ultimately became a rare and vulnerable bonding experience, with both women opening up about the loss of their spouses—something Dorinda later described as deeply healing.
"I did say to [The Golden Life producers], I don't wanna talk about Richard so much anymore," she said on Carl Radke's More Life with Carl Radkepodcast. "Not because I don't talk about him with myself and he's still in my life, but because I want people to see what survival and life looks like after you go through all these things and who I am today."
Dorinda told Carl, who also faced grief after his brother's death, talked about weaving loss into their storylines on reality TV. "What was awkward for me is because people were calling me a widow, and I'm like, wait a second, I'm 48 years old, like I'm too young to be a widow," she said. "You know, like, who am I? So in a weird way, I think it's shaped to define younger women that lose a partner, or younger people that lose partner because widows are women that have had, sort of I believe for me, full lives with their partners, and it was, not that it's ever a time, but like it was a natural progression."
She recounted the first year after Richard's death as "hell" but said RHONY was almost therapeutic. "I'm always so thankful to Bravo kind of coming along, and some people did understand how I did it, like I think almost two years after Richard died," she recounted. "But it was almost therapeutic for me, and it was the first thing that I kind of had that didn't require me to be a mother or a wife or a daughter, and I just got to be Dorinda."
View this post on InstagramDorinda continued, "And so, in that way, I'll always be thankful to Bravo because it was a very therapeutic thing for me, and listen, sometimes they did a good job, sometimes they did a horrible job, but I was always me. It was who I was authentically at that time, and I took the audience on that journey with me. But listen, I didn't, not only was I very sad and griefful after Richard passed and things, I was angry."
She also recalled how, shortly after her husband’s death, Ramona Singer urged her to attend her birthday party, encouraging her to take a small step back into the world. Though Dorinda initially questioned whether it was appropriate and felt unsure how to engage socially while grieving, the invitation reflected Ramona’s effort to support her during an incredibly isolating time.
Dolly Parton, Brooke Shields Celebrate 'Hannah Montana' Anniversary With Heartfelt Memories
Dolly Parton and Brooke Shields were both feeling nostalgic ahead of the Hannah Montana anniversary special released on Tuesday.
Parton, who played the aunt of Miley Stewart, iconically played by Miley Cyrus, took to her Instagram stories to reflect on the time they spent together on set. After all, the "9 to 5" singer is Cyrus' godmother in real life.
"Reminiscing on my time as Aunt Dolly," Parton wrote, reposting a reel shared by the Disney Channel's Instagram account. "When Hannah Montana came on the air and @mileycyrus, my little goddaughter was the star of it, I was so proud of her. I thought she was sensational."
In the nostalgic post, Parton's character was giving Stewart advice.
"Being a teenage girl's harder than walking through a balloon shop with a porcupine purse," she said in the clip.
View this post on InstagramShields, who played Stewart's late mother Susan, appeared intermittently throughout the show in flashbacks and dream sequence scenes.
The legendary model also took to Instagram with a clip of a sweet scene between the two of them.
"20 years of #HannahMontana, say what?!?" she wrote. "These really were some sweet memories playing Miley’s mom on the show... Who’s reliving the magic & watching the @disneyplus special?"

Beloved 1960s TV Series Aired Finale 58 Years Ago Today — After 58 Episodes
Hey, hey, it's The Monkees. Ever since the beloved pop-rock band took their music and shenanigans to television in 1966, there's never been a TV show quite like it. And today officially marks 58 years (!!!) since the finale of the 1960s show aired, ending its two-season, 58-episode run.
The last episode of The Monkees TV show, called "The Frodis Caper," follows band members Davy Jones,Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork for one more wild and trippy day of, well, monkey business. The episode was written and directed by Dolenz and includes an evil wizard (comedian and actor Rip Taylor guest stars as the wacky Wizard Glick), an alien plant (Frodis), and a mind control threat.
Of course, the foursome, sillier and more ridiculous than ever, must save the day. And how do they do it? Well, obviously, they simply "jump up and down three times, roll a head of cabbage, and giggle!”

NBC aired the final episode on March 25, 1968, but loads of reruns circulated after and extended the show's popularity into the 1970s and beyond.
According to @themonkees Instagram page, the episode's alternate title was "Mijacogeo," which Dolenz says was an amalgamation is family's names: Micky, actor Janelle Johnson (his mom), Gemma "Coco" Marie Dolenz ("Coco" was Micky's nickname for her), and actor George Dolenz (his dad).
The official page also recalls, "At the close of the show, then-emerging singer/songwriter Tim Buckley performed a soulful rendition of 'Song to the Siren,' a fitting end to the series."

For now, The Monkees TV show (1966–1968) can be streamed on Philo, as well as purchased or rented via Prime Video. All 58 episodes of The Monkees have been remastered in HD from the original negatives, which are available for purchase on Blu-ray/DVD.
Luke Evans, Rafael Olarra’s Ex, Is ‘Fire’ in Fishnets, a Leotard, and Thigh-High Boots
The Rocky Horror Show is a go, and by the looks of it, the cast are ready to do the Time Warp again.
Starring Andrew Durand, Amber Gray, Harvey Guillén, Stephanie Hsu, Juliette Lewis, Josh Rivera, and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, the whole fever dream will be narrated by SNL alum Rachel Dratch. But there’s one member who’s really catching our eye.
View this post on InstagramLuke Evans, the ex of Pedro Pascal’s new rumored beau, Rafael Olarra, and star of big projects like Nine Perfect Strangers, Dracula Untold, and The Hobbit, is a chef’s kiss in his costume for the role of Frank-N-Furter.
“Frank can be flamboyant and feminine, slinky and sultry, but there’s a menace to him,” Evans told Vogue. “I want him to feel attractive in many, many different ways so that men and women can look at him and go, ‘Hmmm.'”
Mhmm, we went. And so did everyone else on Evans' own Instagram tease. From fire emojis to endless red hearts, fans are commenting on the look and they are ready for some Frank.
As for the Broadway revival show, the book, music, and lyrics are courtesy of Richard O’Brien, with Tony winner Sam Pinkleton, of Oh, Mary! fame, directing. It’s a project Billboard said is the “only play weirder, gayer and more musically madcap than Cole Escola’s take on Mary Todd Lincoln.”
“Like 10 seconds before I got on this interview, Rocky was being born from an amniotic sac in Frank’s lab in the other room,” Pinkleton told Billboard. “Every day in rehearsal, I’m like, ‘Can you guys believe we’re doing this?’”
Luke Evans and Rafael OlarraOlarra, 42, is an openly gay man who studied at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires, per Queerty. He was last linked to Evans. The two went Instagram official in February 2020, per People, then announced their breakup in 2021 after a year together, per Out magazine.
Olarra and Pascal, 50, were first linked in February 2026. Over the weeks since, they have been spotted catching a flick in New York City, showing affection in Los Angeles, and walking around together in Mexico. Neither has publicly addressed the relationship, nor exactly how the two met.

Kathy Griffin Reveals the Truth Behind Her Dramatic New Look
Comedian Kathy Griffin, 65, recently teased fans with a major transformation that generated a lot of buzz. In a new YouTube video, Griffin reveals what she insists is the truth about that transformation.

At the beginning of her latest YouTube video, posted on March 24, Griffin addressed her new blonde hair. When she initially teased the look, via a March 16 Instagram post, many fans presumed she was wearing a wig. It turns out, according to Griffin, it's not a wig.
Griffin gave fans a teaser with two new Instagram posts shared on March 24 where she encouraged everybody to check out her upcoming YouTube video to learn more about her hair transformation.
In the caption of one, Griffin wrote, "I really dyed it blonde!!!"
View this post on InstagramGriffin addressed the hair situation at the beginning of her new video. "I did it. I actually dyed my hair this color," she stated.
She continued, "This is my hair. I've been growing it long for a really long time, and I know it's cheesy, and I'm too old, but I've always wanted to try this hair color."
"I'm only going to try it, like, maybe I'll do six months," Griffin admitted. She also told fans it was an intense process to transform her hair into the blonde shade it is now.
Griffin gushed, "It's really fun. I like it. If you don't like it, I promise, it's just a phase. I'm not making a statement about blondes having more fun or any of that. I just have liked the look forever."
She also admitted that whenKim Kardashian went blonde for a bit a while back, Griffin really fell in love with the look.
The blonde look has received mostly positive reviews from Griffin's fans and colleagues.
Carson Kressleyraved, "I think it looks great - fun and fresh!"
Lisa Rinnaagreed, commenting, "It's so good on you!"
One fan wrote, "Looks so GOOD. Never thought we'd see you as a blonde but it really suits you!"
Someone else suggested, "Does this mean we can expect another tour after this one?! New Hair, New Tour!"
"It honestly suits you soo well to the point I wonder why it took soo long. Diva. You look amazing," read another reaction.
At least one Instagram user insisted that Griffin is wearing a wig, a claim that was fairly common when she initially debuted the blonde look.
View this post on InstagramThere was a wig on a stand behind Griffin as she recorded her new YouTube video, so the idea that the new blonde hue really is a wig isn't necessarily a stretch to suggest.
A few other people suggested variations on the color they thought would suit Griffin really well. One mentioned a "darker honey with highlights," and another suggested "a little darker more strawberry natural blonde with highlights."
Whether Griffin truly dyed her hair blonde or she's just playing with her fans, the look seems to be a hit. She obviously loves it, and fans do too.
Runway Incident Grounds a JetBlue Flight Out of Rhode Island After Striking an Animal During Takeoff
Travelers leaving a Rhode Island airport were in for a shock this week, when they were made aware of an incident that took place during takeoff when the plane collided with an animal on the runway. Thankfully, nobody on board the plane reported injuries as a result of the incident. However, the airline was temporarily grounded and passengers were asked to deboard while officials investigated what happened.
While passengers reported thinking that the whole thing was a joke at first, the collision highlights the dangers to both travelers and wildlife when their paths cross.
A JetBlue Flight Had to Return to the Airport Minutes After TakeoffPassengers aboard JetBlue flight 1129 leaving T.F. Green Airport reported having to turn around just 15 minutes after takeoff. The reason? Their flight collided with a coyote who had wondered onto the runway during takeoff.
The plane was headed for JFK Airport, according to WPRI-TV, but before it could completely clear the ground, it came into contact with the animal, causing what passenger Erin Drozda referred to as an audible "thud."
"We were up in the air for 10 to 15 minutes, and then all of a sudden the captain came on and said, ‘This is the flight crew. If anyone heard that thud, we hit a coyote, and we are now on our way back to Providence,'" Drozda recalled before revealing that she thought it was a joke at first. "You don't ever hear that."
Moments later the plane began its descent, heading back to the airport where passengers were asked to deplane so that authorities could inspect the plane for damage. Drozda said she and her fellow travelers waited inside for around a half hour before being let back onto the plane. However, despite the collision between the animal and the plane's landing gear, the aircraft was deemed fit to fly, and passengers were eventually allowed to reboard and takeoff, even though Drozda says she ended up missing her connecting flight as a result of the crash.
Wildlife Strikes Aren't UncommonWhile sad, incidents with wildlife aren't as uncommon as you may think. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has a database to track these types of incidents. According to the website, it has been monitoring these strikes since 1990, and between the year it began and 2023, there were an estimated 291,600 strikes in the U.S.
The FAA says that it has been using this data to work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to better understand the issue and to find ways to "mitigate risk." A quick search of the database shows that the T.F. Green Airport has reported a number of incidents with wildlife over the years, including:
- Horned lark
- American kesterl
- Cedar waxwing
- Striped skunk
- Mourning dove
While it's very likely that the coyote was killed during the incident, hopefully these strikes continue to be reported to the FAA so that the impact from these collisions can be monitored and changes can be made to protect the animals that live around the airport as well as the people aboard the planes that hit them.
In the Wake of the Deadly LaGuardia Collision, FAA Releases 150+ U.S. Airport Safety 'Hot Spot' Concerns
Air travel is statistically one of the safest ways to travel, but even the smoothest journeys have their risks. In response to a tragic runway collision at New York’s LaGuardia Airport that killed two pilots and injured dozens of passengers, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has released an updated list of more than 150 “hot spots” at U.S. airports where extra caution is needed on airport runways and taxiways.
“The FAA for many years has published a ‘hot spot’ list showing pilots where incidents have occurred on runways and taxiways at airports nationwide,” an FAA spokesperson said of the significance of the hot spot list “The purpose is to alert pilots to be extra attentive when operating in these locations, which are typically complex or confusing intersections.”
For travelers, these hot spots reinforce the careful choreography that happens every time a plane taxis, lands, or takes off. They are not warnings to avoid travel, but reminders that the complex movement of aircraft on the ground has its own safety challenges, and Americans are paying closer attention to them now more than ever.
Adventure starts with a click—sign up for our newsletter for travel tips and stories.
What Is an FAA “Hot Spot” and Why It MattersThe term “hot spot” might sound dramatic, but it has a specific meaning in aviation safety. According to the FAA, a hot spot is an area on the airport surface with a history or potential risk of collision or runway incursion, meaning a place where an aircraft, vehicle, or person ends up someplace they shouldn’t be without proper clearance. These zones often occur where runways and taxiways intersect in intricate layouts, or where signage and surface markings can be confusing to pilots and ground crews.
Examples of notable hot spots at U.S. airports include:
- Salt Lake City International (SLC): areas where holding positions for different runways are very close together, increasing the risk of inadvertent runway entry.
- LaGuardia Airport (LGA): multiple hot spots where runways intersect with taxiways G, P, R, and S, and where aircraft exit runways onto taxiways such as Q that have caused confusion.
- Harry Reid International (formerly LAS, Las Vegas): a complex area where departure runway alignments and intersecting taxiways have been identified as hot spots, requiring heightened awareness.
- Phoenix Sky Harbor International (PHX): pilots sometimes mistake taxiway F for runways 07L or 07R or cross runways without authorization near taxiway F8–F10.
It’s important to note that hot spots do not mean an airport is inherently unsafe. Instead, they act like high‑alert intersections in a city. If pilots and ground crews know where to expect potential confusion, they can exercise heightened vigilance and avoid mistakes.
Related: Southwest Is Officially Leaving Two Major US Airports
The LaGuardia Crash and Rising Safety ConcernsThe FAA’s emphasis on hot spots comes in the wake of a crash at LaGuardia Airport in March 2026, when an Air Canada Express regional jet collided with a fire truck that had been cleared onto a runway. Two pilots were killed and dozens of passengers injured as a result. Investigators found that the airport’s ground surveillance systems failed to alert controllers to the danger, and that communication and tracking procedures were partly to blame.
This tragedy has underscored the need for continuous assessment of runway and taxiway operations, not just in the air, but on the ground. Months before the incident, pilots had also reported safety concerns about traffic flow and controller instructions at LaGuardia, hinting at broader systemic stress in busy U.S. airports.
Such events aren’t isolated. National safety investigators have noted dozens of near‑miss incidents at U.S. airports in recent years, in airspace and on runways, which contribute to how hot spots are identified and prioritized for action.

What This Means to Travelers on the GroundAs someone who has spent more hours than I’d care to admit waiting for delayed flights, I know how quickly a bustling terminal can turn into an anxious maze. The hot spot warnings are tools aimed at pilots, controllers, and ground crews to help ensure that the intricate dance of aircraft movement stays orderly and safe.
From a safety perspective, here’s what travelers should understand:
- Hot spots are proactive safety measures. The FAA updates this list not to alarm the public, but to help operators identify tricky intersections and take steps to reduce incidents before they happen.
- Airports are closely monitored. Major hubs like San Francisco International Airport, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport all have hot spots on their lists, not because they are unsafe, but because of complex layouts that demand caution.
- Incidents are rare. Despite the appearance of risk on paper, commercial aviation remains extremely safe. Systems and procedures are designed with multiple layers of redundancy, and hot spot identification simply adds another layer of protection.
Still, as a traveler, planning for delays and staying informed about conditions at your departure and arrival airports can help calm nerves and reduce surprises.

Safety: The Journey Begins Long Before TakeoffThe aviation industry tracks safety outcomes meticulously, and the rate of fatal accidents on U.S. commercial flights is extraordinarily low compared with other forms of travel. While technical statistics are complex, even industry analysts note that a passenger would have to fly every day for tens of thousands of years before facing a serious incident.
That said, near misses and runway incursions remain part of the conversation, which is why the FAA’s hot spot list is an essential planning tool. For pilots and controllers, it’s a reminder of where history and layout intersect. For travelers, it’s reassurance that aviation regulators are watching even the smallest details to keep thousands of flights moving safely every day.

Vince Vaughn Blasts Late-Night Hosts for Having a Political 'Agenda'
The future of late-night talk shows has been in the spotlight over the past few years, with actor Vince Vaughn giving his two cents on the matter. In a recent podcast appearance, he reveals late-night shows have gotten less funny due to a political agenda.
TheWedding Crashersstar appeared on an episode of Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast, where the conversation was geared toward comedy. Vaughn spoke about comedy being about the ability to make fun of yourself, and how stand-ups were given more access to be produced by studios due to it being more the responsibility of the comedian.
He compares that stand-up specials had more leeway with their comedy than a studio-produced film, where executives don't want to offend anyone. Von chimes in that it's one of the reasons why late-night shows have "tanked" in recent years, and their bit often being about "white rednecks."
"They never get it right," said Vaughn. "I think that talk shows, to a large part, became really agenda-based."
The actor adds that podcasts have gained momentum with less production for being more "authentic" than late-night shows. Vaughn continued by saying that late-night shows "were going to [evangelize] people to what they thought. You know what I mean? And so people just rejected it because it didn’t feel authentic. It felt like they had an agenda."

As a result, Vaughn says that late-night shows have "stopped being funny" and instead feel like he's in a "class I didn't want to take" and is "getting scolded." Vaughn then relates it to fans being more open to stand-up performances due to their public atmosphere and wanting to listen to a podcast for its authenticity.
While Vaughn doesn't name-drop any late-night hosts, one can speculate that he's speaking in relation to Jimmy Kimmeland Stephen Colbert. Both hosts have faced backlash for being outspoken against Donald Trump during his first and second presidential terms.
Kimmel faced being taken off the air after a comment made following the death of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk. Colbert is set to exit his CBS program this May, with Conan O'Brien having realized the shift in late-night after leaving his own show.
Travelers Flying Out of This Airport Will Be Greeted by a First of Its Kind Humanoid Robot Named 'José'
Picture this: You've just arrived at the airport. You've gotten a bit disoriented on your way to the gate, and you're not sure exactly where you need to go. You look around for help, and instead of finding a gate agent or airport employee's smiling face, you're greeted by the shiny black mug of a humanoid robot, eager to answer your questions.
That's not just some far off goal of technology giants, it's the reality of passengers passing through Silicon Valley, San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) beginning this week. Here's what we know.
Guess who just clocked in for his first day on the job? @FlySJC pic.twitter.com/VvCzkLWbt4
— IntBot (@intbotai) March 25, 2026 San José Mineta International Airport Introduces AI RobotSJC is debuting its newest employee, the aptly named José. José has been created by IntBot, a local start-up. The AI-powered humanoid robot will be able to welcome travelers to the airport, while also answering questions and offering information. José speaks an impressive 50+ languages, according to Breaking Travel News, and he can be found in Terminal B, Gate 24.
“San José continues to lead in applying emerging technologies in ways that improve everyday experiences for residents and visitors,” San José City Manager Jennifer Maguire told the publication. “Introducing IntBot at SJC reflects our commitment to thoughtful innovation that strengthens customer service while supporting our city’s reputation as a global technology hub.”
Related: Are ICE Agents Replacing the TSA? Here's What We Know
José's Arrival Is Perfectly TimedThe airport's newest greeter hasn't arrived to his new home by accident. Not only is SJC considered the gateway to Silicon Valley—one of the country's biggest hubs for technology and development—but he's also being deployed ahead of the FIFA World Cup, which the mayor expects to bring in thousands of international visitors.
Having a little extra help on hand, especially help that speaks more than 50 languages, is bound to provide a better travel experience for those coming through the airport. Not only that, but the partial government shutdown has caused TSA staffing shortages in airports across the country. If José's debut is a successful one, Business Insider says he may be used to determine what parts of the airport experience can be automated, and which parts still require a human touch.

While only time will tell whether or not José makes for a good employee, I have to imagine that there will be plenty of people posting selfies with the humanoid as he completes his first day on the job.
Beloved ‘90s Rock Band Goes ‘Unplugged’ Again, 30 Years Later
Soul Asylum is going back to the future.
The Minneapolis band, best known for the top five 1993 hit “Runaway Train,” is celebrating the anniversary of their MTV Unplugged performance with a new album, MPLS Unplugged, recorded on April 30,2023, nearly 30 years to the day of the MTV session.
On the new set, Soul Asylum frontman Dave Pirner is joined by the band’s guitarist Ryan Smith, bassist Jeremy Tapparo and drummer Michael Bland, along with some special guests. Ivan Neville, who joined Soul Asylum for their 1993 session, returns on keyboards along with the STRINGenius string quartet and the Robert Robinson gospel singers. “He was the obvious choice… pretty magical—it just felt right,” Pirner said in a statement of Neville.
After the MTV Unplugged session, Soul Asylum continued to record and release hits, including “Misery,” from the band’s 1995 album Let Your Dim Light Shine. The song topped Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart and reached No. 20 on the Hot 100. It’s reprised on the new MPLS Unplugged set with an acoustic version that reveals more of the song’s melody and nuances.
The new set also offers new, stripped down takes of such Soul Asylum classics as “Runaway Train,” “Black Gold,” and “Somebody to Shove.”
Soul Asylum emerged from the Minneapolis club scene in the early ‘80s alongside such peers as Hüsker Dü and the Replacements and was known to play as loud and as fast as the early incarnations of those bands. In fact, prior to changing their name to Soul Asylum in 1983, the band was known as Loud Fast Rules.
After building a rabid following in the alternative rock scene in the ‘80s, the band struck gold when they signed with Columbia Records and released their sixth album Grave Dancers Union, featuring “Runaway Train,” as well as the rock hits “Black Gold” and “Somebody to Shove.”
Although the band has gone through lineup changes over the years, Pirner continues to carry the Soul Asylum torch. To drum up anticipation for the release of MPLS Unplugged, due later this summer, he’s hitting the road with Smith and Tappero on an acoustic tour.

3-Year-Old Boy Was Sad to See an Elderly Man Eating Alone. What He Did Next Is a Lesson Everyone Should Learn From (Exclusive)
Mister Rogers' Neighborhood always told us to “look for the helpers” when times are tough and the world feels scary—and it remains one of the best pieces of advice, especially today. Our feeds are often full of doom and gloom, so when we see something positive, it’s worth celebrating and holding onto.
Today’s “helper” comes in the form of a sweet 3-year-old Oklahoma boy named Hudson “Huddy” Drew. He was out with his mom and dad grabbing a meal at a local McDonald's in Reno, Oklahoma, when he noticed an elderly man sitting alone.
“When we go to McDonald’s, he usually wants to go and play,” his mom, Ashlyn, tells Parade. “We were having a hard time getting him to sit still that day. He walked over to the older man and said ‘hi,’ then came back to us and asked if he could sit with him. We made him go ask first, and the older man said, ‘Of course you can.’”
So little Huddy grabbed his food, walked over, and made himself a new friend.
@ashlyntaylor88My little boy has the biggest heart. He was sad that this man was eating alone so he took his food over and sat with him. Made this momma’s heart happy and sad at the same time 🥺❤️#fyp #raisingaman #bigheart #mcdonalds #toddlersoftiktok
♬ Raising a Man - Whitley MorganPeople were deeply moved by his kind heart.
“Depression in seniors is rarely taken as seriously as it should be. Be proud of yourself and him,” one commenter wrote.
“Sometimes as adults, we need to sit back and learn from kids,” added another.
Ashlyn says this kind of behavior is nothing new for Huddy.
“We own a restaurant and have a lot of older people come in,” she explains. “If he comes to work with me, he will always find someone to sit with. He is a very social kid and has touched so many people’s lives. I am extremely proud to be his mom. We own a farm, and I truly believe that it’s taught him strength and compassion.”
She also credits Huddy’s father for setting an example.
“His dad is the most kind person you’ve ever met—when someone needs help, he drops everything to be there,” she adds.
While a few skeptics in the comments questioned whether the moment was staged, Ashlyn insists Huddy’s kindness is entirely genuine.
“To the people who don’t believe it happened or have said hateful things, all I have to say is ‘live like Huddy,’” she said. “He makes me proud every day. He has randomly hugged elderly people at Walmart, and they absolutely love it. The elderly can teach our youth a lot. Times were hard for them back in the day. I know my papa has taught Huddy strength, kindness, and patience.”

She added that patience and compassion are the biggest takeaways from the moment. “He sat there and ate his whole meal with that older man—but with us as his parents, he wouldn’t sit still.”
Huddy now has an army of internet “aunties and uncles” who are equally proud of his thoughtful gesture. May we all learn to be more like (and raise people like) Hudson Drew.

Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey Reenact Famous ‘Beaches’ Scene To Protest ICE and Tease No Kings Rally
Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey, who broke our hearts in the blockbuster film Beaches, are back together to make a political statement.
Midler, 80, and Hershey, 78, reenacted one of their most famous scenes from the iconic 1988 film on Instagram on Wednesday. In the film, the duo's characters are famous for sitting at the beach house and playing cards on the patio. That's exactly what Hershey and Midler did in the new video posted to Midler's Instagram page. But this time, the twosome ditched their cards to make "NO ICE" and "NO KINGS" signs, signifying that they would be participating in an upcoming No Kings rally as a form of protest.
"These old Beaches be MARCHIN’!!! Turn up and SING OUT!!! No Kings March 28, 2026. Share the message far and wide! #nokings," Midler captioned the short video, which featured her singing her own rendition of Woody Guthrie's famous song "All You Fascists." A frequent critic of President Donald Trump, Midler often speaks out about politics. However, Hershey is rarely seen in public.
View this post on Instagram What's Barbara Hershey Up to These Days?Barbara Hershey earned critical acclaim for diverse roles in projects such as Woody Allen‘s iconic 1986 film Hannah and Her Sisters, in which she starred as a woman having an affair with her sister’s husband, played by Michael Caine, and in Martin Scorsese’s 1988 film The Last Temptation of Christ, in which she played Mary Magdalene. Hershey earned blockbuster status in Garry Marshall‘s 1988 tearjerker Beaches, in which she played the lifelong best friend of Bette Midler. In 2010, Hershey returned to the spotlight to play Natalie Portman‘s mother in the ballet thriller Black Swan, earning more critical acclaim for her legendary career.
Back in January, Hershey headed to El Segundo, California, to attend a media launch event for a new racquet sport, TYPTI, hosted by Steve Bellamy at California Smash. Sporting full gray hair, the legendary film star looked happy and healthy, dressed all in black. While Hershey is known to avoid the spotlight, it’s great to see the film star shining brightly in front of the cameras.

Did Critics Like Beaches? While Beaches has gone down in history as a film that millions of people love, it was originally panned by critics.
“They called it a ‘chick flick’, which really offended me, because a movie with two men is called a film,” Hershey told the Guardian in 2021. “But when we were making it, I felt that it was important because it showed that friendship between women is powerful and important, and as the years have gone by, people keep coming up to me saying: ‘I saw it with my best friend and it changed my life’, ‘I saw it with my mother …’ The repercussions are so strong and that pleases me a lot.”
Hershey and Midler even remained friends after production, especially when they lived near each other and would grab dinner together.
“You see people do a double-take at us, and that’s fun. I’ll always love her,” she recalled.
Is Beaches Heading to Broadway?Yes! The beloved film has become such a part of the pop culture canon that it’s heading to Broadway this spring. Starring Jessica Vosk and Kelli Barrett, the production will hit New York City’s Majestic Theatre starting March 27, 2026.
