For many people, coffee is a non-negotiable morning must-have. According to the National Coffee Association, coffee is the most popular drink in the U.S., with nearly 195 million Americans drinking coffee at least once a week.

Whether you’re part of the 82% of coffee-drinkers who prepare coffee at home or the 28% who buy it out, you likely prefer your coffee a certain way. Maybe you like it black, with nothing in it. Maybe you’re more of an oat milk latte drinker, and sometimes you’ll ask for vanilla flavoring if you’re in the mood.

Considering that it’s what we consume regularly that impacts health the most, it’s worth thinking about how your coffee habit could be impacting your health long-term, including whether it’s lowering your risk of cancer or raising it. After all, diet and lifestyle habits impact cancer risk by between 30 and 40%.

With that in mind, Parade talked with oncologists about how drinking coffee regularly impacts the risk of cancer. They share one popular coffee add-in that they recommend steering clear of.

How Does Coffee Impact Cancer Risk? 

If you drink your coffee black, you already have a habit in place that could be lowering your risk of cancer. “Several studies have suggested that coffee may be associated with a lower risk of certain cancers, especially liver cancer,” says Dr. Avishek Kumar, MD, an oncologist and lieutenant colonel in the US Air Force Reserve serving as a flight surgeon.

To this point, a scientific review published in the journal Gastroenterology found that drinking two cups of coffee a day was associated with a 43% reduced risk of liver cancer. That’s pretty major! Another scientific article, published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, stated that drinking coffee was associated with a lower risk of colon and rectal cancers, breast cancer, endometrial cancer and other cancers.

The researchers stated that coffee has more than 1,000 compounds, so it’s tricky to pinpoint which compounds are most beneficial, but one theory is that the compounds in coffee help reduce oxidative stress in the body, which in turn lowers the risk of certain types of cancer. 

When drinking coffee, Dr. Mark Ashamalla, MD, the chief of radiation oncology at Episcopal Health Services, says that it’s important to be mindful of the temperature. “Very hot beverages may increase the risk of esophageal cancer, likely because repeated thermal injury can damage the lining of the esophagus. So I tell people it is reasonable to let very hot coffee cool a bit before drinking it,” he says.

The Popular Coffee Add-in To Steer Clear Of

While black coffee may lower the risk of cancer, this connection changes as soon as the beverage starts morphing into fancier coffee drinks. “Plain coffee is very different from a large flavored drink loaded with sugar, syrups, whipped cream and processed creamers,” says Dr. Ashamalla.

Both oncologists say that something they wish every coffee drinker would avoid is adding sugary syrups or highly processed creamers to their morning brew. They explain that these ingredients can indirectly increase the risk of cancer because they can contribute to inflammation, obesity and insulin resistance—all of which are risk factors for cancer.

“Obesity and inflammation are both linked to a higher risk of several cancers, including breast, colon, endometrial, pancreatic, liver and kidney cancers. Excess body fat is not just passive tissue. It can affect hormones, insulin levels and inflammatory signals in the body,” Dr. Kumar tells Parade. 

To this point, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, having obesity increases the risk of 13 different types of cancer. “One sweet coffee will not cause cancer. But a daily sugar-heavy coffee drink can become part of the long-term pattern that increases cancer risk,” Dr. Kumar adds.

Similarly, both doctors say that highly processed creamers, especially those high in added sugar, artificial trans fats or long lists of additives, can also contribute to inflammation and obesity when consumed every day.

“Hydrogenated oils are mostly known for their heart-health risks, but they are also part of a broader ultra-processed food pattern that can contribute to weight gain, inflammation and poor metabolic health. Those are the pathways that matter when we talk about long-term cancer risk,” Dr. Ashamalla says. 

He adds that his rule is simple: If your coffee creamer reads more like a chemistry label than a food label, it probably should not be an everyday habit.

Healthier Alternatives

If you don’t like the taste of black coffee, learning that sugary syrups and processed creamers aren’t great to consume every day can be disappointing. Fortunately, there are healthier ways to sweeten up your coffee. 

Both doctors say that cinnamon is one sugar-free way to add flavor to coffee. Scientific research shows that cinnamon can help lower inflammation. Besides this spice, Dr. Ashamalla says that nutmeg and cocoa are also healthier alternatives to add to coffee than sugary syrups or processed creamers. 

“Many spices contain plant compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, but the bigger benefit for most people is that they can help reduce the need for sweetened syrups and sugar-heavy creamers,” he explains.

What both oncologists want coffee drinkers to keep in mind is that flavored coffee drinks should be seen as a treat, not an everyday way to consume caffeine. To keep your coffee habit healthy, keep it black and save the flavored coffee drinks for special occasions.

Rock legend Alice Cooper is hitting the road once again. 

The shock rock pioneer has officially announced new 2026 tour dates, extending his highly praised "Alice’s Attic" tour into the fall.

“Embrace the chaos of Alice’s Attic…” the post began..

The tour will kick off in Louisville, KY, on Sep. 17 at the Louder Than Life festival, before wrapping up in Reno, NV, on Nov. 21. 

“Presale tickets are available tomorrow, July 14th at 10am local. Register now for Artist Presale at AliceCooper.com/tour,” the post revealed. 

The general on sale will be available to the public starting Friday, July 17 at 10am local time.

The 78-year-old’s shows are known for blending hard rock with elaborate stage productions, complete with fog, guillotines, fake blood and even attic-style sets, creating full-scale theatrical spectacles driven by dramatic storytelling and unlike anything else in live music.

Cooper’s had a pretty packed year when it comes to performances, with clearly no plans of stopping anytime soon.

The latest dates are a continuation of the tour that previously spanned the spring season, from April through May. The tour, named after his current radio program, the “Alice’s Attic,” was teased as “a realm of insanity…if you dare.” 

In 2025, Cooper also hit the road with heavy metal band Judas Priest for their North American tour, which began in mid-September and ended in late October in Houston, Texas. 

He also headlined shows that May and August with the original Alice Cooper band having reunited in July. After more than 50 years, Cooper, Michael Bruce, Dennis Dunaway, and Neal Smith released the studio album The Revenge of Alice Cooper.

All that touring simply isn’t taking a toll on Cooper, as The Music Room reviewed his spring "Alice’s Attic" tour stop in Ohio, writing, “I’ve seen Alice multiple times over the years, and somehow, every single time, he feels more energized, more sharp, and more locked in than the last. A lot of artists who tour as much as he does fall into a routine—they play the same show, hit the same cues, and call it a night. Alice Cooper doesn’t do that.”

Meanwhile, Heaven Metal Magazine said of the South Carolina stop that it “proved once again why Cooper remains one of the greatest live entertainers in rock history. Even after seeing Alice multiple times over the years, this ended up being one of our favorite Cooper shows yet.”

Fans can expect classics like “School’s Out” and “Poison,” along with some deeper cuts and additions that will even leave longtime fans pleasantly surprised.

Even Cooper agrees, previously telling BlabberMouth, "I'm 77 now, and I think I'm doing my best shows now."

Beloved actress Debi Mazar's stunning daughter is a dead ringer for her famous mom.

Mazar, 61, known for roles ranging from films like Batman Forever and Goodfellas to TV shows like Entourage and Younger, got her start in the ’80s as a makeup artist. Now a proud mom, the star just wished her daughter, Evelina Corcos, a happy 24th birthday. But in the photos she shared, it's almost shocking how much Corcos resembles her mother. Mazar Doesn't Want Women to 'Give Up'

As she gets older, Mazar wants other women to feel the same sense of confidence she does.

“I think women still want to look beautiful,” Mazar told PEOPLE. “There’s no reason why we have to give up [at a certain age]. I don’t get into that philosophy.”

But that doesn’t mean you have to go out every day in a ball gown. Mazar, who lives in the countryside, said it’s more about acceptance.

 “Not giving up doesn’t mean you have to look glamorous. It just means that you look the way you want to look. You take care. You might have wrinkles and lines and have gray hair or a different look, but it’s beautiful. It’s a life well-earned,” she continued.

Mazar, who is teaming up with makeup brand Laura Geller, said, “I think it’s about acceptance of your age and not trying to necessarily cover up all of your lines.”

Mazar Soaked Up the Summer in Italy

Last year, Mazar and her husband, Gabriele Corcos, had a dream-like vacation on the Italian coast.

“You are my universe and my inspiration, My strength and my reason, My truth and my obsession. Happy birthday my love, I adore you! #birthday#summer#italy#family,” Corcos captioned the photo set, which showed the stunning Mazar looking as glamorous as ever in two retro-style bathing suits as she stood by the ocean.

Back in 2022, Mazar, who lives in Italy, told PEOPLE that she’s always been on a mission to raise her daughters, Evelina and Giulia, with a love of travel.

“I have been dragging my kids on airplanes to countries all over the world since they were born,” she said. “I like that. I want them to understand culture and art and different cities.”

The girls now have the same love of travel as their mom.

“It’s been amazing because now that they live in Europe, my daughter, who’s 16, has friends come from the states,” she shared at the time. “They jump on trains. They go to Venice for the day. They go to Rome for the day. They go to Milan for a weekend. They go to concerts in other cities here. My oldest flies to Israel, Madrid, Barcelona.”

After weeks of silence, Mitch McConnell finally released an update on his health, and Jimmy Kimmelhas something to say about it.

Speculation on the status of the 84-year-old Senator following a hospitalization last month turned the Internet into a rumor mill. The posts, the memes, and the videos just wouldn’t stop. Even actress/ex-RHOBH Lisa Rinna got in on the action, posting on TikTok, “I mean come on, Mitch McConnell’s dead. He’s dead. They’re keeping him alive like Weekend at Bernie’s.” 

But as it turns out, Rinna is wrong, and McConnell is very much alive. Finally, after almost a month, the Senator shared a photo of himself and his wife, Elaine Chao, posting a lengthy update on Facebook, explaining, “You all know how folks of my generation often hesitate to share the vulnerability that comes with growing older. Even in the public eye, I feel the same instinct.” 

He added, “I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages. But I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital. While receiving excellent care over the past several weeks, I’ve also had to deal with a mild case of pneumonia.” 

While McConnell’s post was meant to instill confidence in the Senator’s health, some people aren't buying it. And one of them is late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. 

Kimmel, who is currently on a two-month break from filming, couldn’t let this one go. The comedian recently shared his own pic (on Instagram), superimposing his face onto McConnell’s body and writing, “For those who’ve been asking, I’m feeling great.” Cue the comments.

Actor Henry Winkler responded with, “Didn’t ask but so glad to know it! Actually didn’t know to ask,” and Brad Garrett replied with a string of crying/laughing, clapping, and heart emojis. Kimmel’s fans also added comments (over 6,000 of them!), such as, “This wins the internet today”, “This! I just told my husband that I didn’t think the ‘other’ pic was real!” and, “Move your fingers, Mitch, so we can see the date on that newspaper.”

Of course, the newspaper comment was in reference to the conspiracy theory that the original McConnell photo, in which he holds a newspaper (presumably to prove that the snapshot was taken recently), was doctored. 

Others also jumped on the faux photo bandwagon with their comedic takes on Kimmel’s post. Actor Will Sasso commented, “Not buying it. Kimmel looks way younger in this pic- was likely taken years ago,” while a fan added, “Jimmy you know this photo is of you in 2023.” 

But the McConnell theories didn't end there. On a recent Reddit post featuring Kimmel’s pic, Internet sleuths said (about McConnell, not Kimmel), “Sure he’s quite possibly alive but until I see verified footage/interview of him talking I can only assume he will ‘take a turn’ in August”, “Possibly alive but the photo clearly shows an AI generated newspaper garbled text. Even Grok indemnified the photo as AI”  and, “He can even be on Fox and Friends. Something light, just prove yourself on camera for five minutes.”

The publication reported that shortly after their marriage, then-Prince Charles gifted his wife with a charm bracelet. Every year for their anniversary, he gave her another charm that symbolized their union.

Some of the charms on Diana's bracelet included the initials H and W for the couple's sons, Prince Harry and Prince William, a miniature St Paul’s Cathedral, ballet slippers, a polo cap, an apple, and a pig. Diana was rarely seen wearing the item it in public as it was so sentimental.

Crisscut Magazine shared further details about Diana's beloved bracelet in a story about her "most sentimental jewels." The feature tracked the history of her most celebrated pieces and highlighted her most meaningful accessories.

The magazine reported, "The current location of Diana’s charm bracelet hasn’t been specified, but in a special 'letter of wishes,' Diana requested that her jewelry be allocated to her sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it – suggesting that it’s in Harry's or William’s possession."

Antiques Roadshow star Theo Burrell has died at the age of 39 following a brave battle with cancer.

"It is with great sadness that I share the news that Theo passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday afternoon. Neither she nor her medical team foresaw this happening quite so quickly," Burrell's family posted on Instagram on Saturday, July 11. "She was an incredible person who fought hard for her family, friends and raising awareness of this cruel disease."

"She saw life events like her son's first day at school and her wedding that a little over 4 years ago we thought she'd never see," the post continued. "The cancer community provided so much comfort and strength to her in her darkest moments. But most of all it provided hope and I think what she would want most of all is for other people to find hope in her story. Hope that the statistics aren't gospel and that one day they'll be very different."

Burrell was diagnosed with glioblastoma in June 2022, having been given 12 to 18 months to live, as she was told her cancer was incurable, according to PEOPLE. She has used her platform to advocate for cancer awareness, specifically sharing a message on social media in March where she asked the Department of Health and Social Care to provide more government-funded cancer research.

“I am running out of treatment options and I will lose my life to this cancer,” Burrell said in the video. “There’s absolutely no doubt about it.”

Many comments were left on the Instagram post with the family's statement, paying tribute to Burrell.

"So deeply saddened to hear Theo has died. A strong, brave lady who promoted awareness of this horrible, cruel disease that also took my family member. So very sorry for Theo's husband and for her young son. It is heartbreaking. Rest easy, beautiful lady," one person wrote.

"Theo was constantly encouraging to so many of us, both around campaigning for change and for living life to the full. She will remain an inspiration to me. I want to send all my love to Theo's family, she was such a special person ❤️," another person posted.

Before Sam Neill became known around the world as Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, the actor came surprisingly close to taking on one of the most iconic roles in movie history.

Decades before Daniel Craig, Pierce Brosnan and other stars stepped into the tuxedo, Neill was considered a serious contender to become the next James Bond.

In 1986, after Roger Moore's final appearance as 007 in A View to a Kill, producers began searching for a new actor to lead the long-running franchise. Neill was among the actors invited to audition for the role, and he even filmed a screen test as part of the process.

The New Zealand-born actor later admitted that he was surprised to be considered for the part but was excited by the opportunity.

"First of all, I wouldn’t have taken the role if they’d asked me to do it," Neill told Den of Geek in 2022.

"It was the last time that I was bullied into doing a screen test. My agent insisted that I go and do it, [saying] it would be rude otherwise. So reluctantly, I went out to Pinewood [Studios] and did this silly thing for a part I never wanted to do."

Neill's screen test featured him performing scenes from From Russia With Love, wearing a tuxedo and showing off the kind of cool confidence producers were looking for in the legendary spy role.

"He would've made a fine Bond back in the day," one Redditor said.

"I always felt like Sam Neill would have been a good fit as Bond, with the same charm that Pierce Brosnan brought to 007," another said.

Another Redditor offered up a way for fans to get a taste of what it would have been like if Neill took the role.

"If you want a solid idea of Sam Neill as Bond, dig up Reilly, Ace Of Spies," they wrote. "It's based on a real life operative in the early part of the 20th Century."

The audition reportedly impressed some involved with the franchise, but ultimately, the role went to Welsh actor Timothy Dalton.

Dalton, 80, made his debut as Bond in 1987's The Living Daylights and went on to portray the character in two films before the role eventually passed to Brosnan, 73.

While Neill didn't become 007, his career continued to flourish. Just a few years after his Bond audition, he starred in the critically acclaimed thriller Dead Calm and later became a household name as Dr. Alan Grant in Steven Spielberg's 1993 blockbuster Jurassic Park.

Looking back, Neill has joked about missing out on the chance to play the world's most famous spy, but he also recognized that the role came with expectations that could have changed the direction of his career.

The actor went on to build a decades-long career filled with memorable performances, from The Piano to Peaky Blinders and the Jurassic World franchise.

Neill died on July 13. He was 78.

In a slew of photos showcasing the latest adaptation of Stephen King's best-selling debut novel, viewers get their first glimpse at some of the many stars set to headline the eight-episode Prime Video series, including Summer Howell, Samantha Sloyan, Matthew Lillard, Amber Midthunder and Alison Thornton.

The debut effort from horror icon Stephen King, Carrie famously follows the story of socially awkward high school student Carrie White as she discovers her uncanny psychic abilities. As she learns more and more about the extent of her powers, Carrie finds herself standing up to a clique of relentless bullies who target her for a mean-spirited prank at their upcoming prom.

In addition to the new images, showrunner Mike Flanagan, who previously directed several adaptations of King's books including Doctor Sleep and Gerald's Game, also told EW about the unique challenges that come with producing an entire series based on King's first book.

"Typically, when you’re adapting a Stephen King book, the mission is completely different," the 48-year-old filmmaker said. "It’s about, How do you make it smaller? ... This was the complete inverse. If we’re going to tell the story of Carrie White in longform, how do we make it expand?”

Elsewhere in the interview, Flanagan also discussed some of the previous adaptations of King's novel, including the classic Sissy Spacek-led horror film, its largely forgotten sequel, an NBC adaptation and a 2013 remake starring Chloë Grace Moretz.

“[Director Brian] De Palma adapted it faithfully and beautifully 50 years ago,” observed Flanagan. “Then it’s been adapted twice after that, officially and unofficially. It’s been imitated scores of times. So for me, this was never going to be a straight adaptation. The only way to approach it was to build something new out of the ingredients of Carrie. Otherwise, there’s really no purpose in trying to retread ground that’s been so beautifully walked before.” 

Christopher Atkins skyrocketed to fame in the 1980 film The Blue Lagoon, but all those good looks can't save him from a travel nightmare.

The former teen heartthrob, 65, starred alongside Brooke Shields in the movie about two teens who were marooned on a tropical island as children, and then grew up and fell in love. Atkins later appeared on the legendary TV show Dallas. While his curls have flown the coop, Atkins is still as blonde as ever. The handsome actor shared a photo of himself sleeping in Ronald Reagan Airport after his flight was delayed and the airport didn't offer any hotel vouchers.

"Sleeping in Ronald Reagan Airport tonight. Had a great time at Fanboy Expo in knoxville but American Airlines going to and going back has been a nightmare. Stuck because they didn't make it on time to white Plains and White Plains shut down so they now fly out in the morning. THE FLIGHT WAS DELAYED AND THEN SAID IT WAS WHITE PLAINS FAULT SO THEY OFFERED NO HOTEL VOUCHERS! The lounge is closed for renovations on top of it all so at this point its just best to stay at the frickin gate so I dont miss it tomorrow! Nighty night," Atkins captioned the photo, which showed him lying back in an airport chair attempting to go to sleep. “You were right next to me, and that was even stranger because you were only 14 at the time,” Atkins said, Entertainment Weekly reported. “There were scenes that I was butt-naked with you, if you remember, sliding down that slide and things like that. And that was a little awkward, but it was kind of funny for me because, at this point, I just did it. But your reaction was, ‘Ugh, oh God.’”

“I was like, ‘Oh God, why do I have to look at this?’” Shields recalled. “‘I’ve never seen one of those before, and I’m not going to start now!’”

My sneakers squeak as I take the corner too fast. Caine’s laughter is hot on my heels. “Watch out for monsters in the dark.”

I’m already suffering from a case of wobbly knees, and his words make my pulse skyrocket. Fear is snaking through me, wrapping around my organs. With every step, it tightens, making me breathless, though the dimness of the haunt has me moving at a slow jog.

I know exactly where I want to be found: the mirror maze. It’s essentially a figure eight, with a few dead ends for confusion’s sake. There, I can keep moving to evade Caine, work the loop, and change directions without being trapped the way I might in some of the other rooms. Though I’ve been in various halls of mirrors at different events, the Abattoir’s is unique. In addition to the expected large, mirrored panels, the walls are built at different angles, and there are hundreds of smaller mirrors mounted on the larger ones. The ceiling is mirrored as well. It’s mind-melting, giving the sensation that the whole space is about to fall in on itself. As I turn into the maze, anticipation makes me want to scream.

There’s faint, barely fluorescent residue left over from last year’s safety tape trail. When there are other lights going in the haunt, and numerous bodies moving through, the just-in-case-of-emergencies exit route identifier is not noticeable unless you know where to look. Now, the marks keep me grounded as I move through the maze, a dozen iterations of myself mimicking my movements. The way the mirrors are angled and layered means that not all images of me move in the same direction. Many are warped and misshapen. It’s as if I’m being stalked by doppelgängers.

A growl echoes through the haunt. Goosebumps creep down my arms.

“Time’s up, Little Red.” Caine’s voice carries, bouncing off the walls, making it impossible to tell where he’s coming from. Electricity streaks down my spine. My stomach flips deliciously. His voice is deeper, ominous. He’s using a modulator, which means he’s wearing a mask.

Yes.

I’m frozen in place, anticipation so strong it’s rooting me. “There she is.”

I yelp, whirling. Not even fifteen feet from me is a monster.

The wolf skull mask leers at me. With his black hoodie pulled up, dark jeans, and boots, Caine doesn’t blend into the darkness; he is the darkness. I can’t stop staring.

Run. Fight.

Do something.

I can’t. I’m frozen.

His growl is the satisfied sound of a predator with prey in its sights. It breaks the spell. I bolt, his chuckle chasing me the same way his footsteps do. The mirrors make me feel off balance, unable to go as fast as I’d like for fear of tipping over. On the back of my neck, my hair stands on end. I barely have time to think, This iswhatitfeelslikebeforelightningstrikes, before his arms close around me.

“Caught you.” The words come as he yanks me off the ground mid-stride. My back is against his chest; my heels drum the floor, rubber squeaking as I try and fail to get away. Each breath is a painful, ragged gasp. His hands roam my body, gripping and grabbing with a ferocity that makes me think of a wolf tearing apart its kill.

“Such a pretty little thing.” Words that should sound kind are cruel, the taunt unmistakable. “Is your p---y as pretty as the rest of you?”

My legs give out, catching us both by surprise. The drop is enough to free me from his hold. Desperation carries me deeper into the mirror maze. Above, beside, and ahead of me, I see my reflection, and the reflection of the monster hunting me. Calling him Caine feels inappropriate. In the mask, he isn’t—he’s a ruthless, loathsome predator. And I’m prey, acting on instinct, mindlessly fleeing, giving myself over to fear that would overwhelm me in reality. Here, I don’t have to find a solution or behave rationally. All I have to do is run. Maybe I’ll get away, and maybe I won’t, but that doesn’t matter: for the time being, I’m feeling, not thinking, and it’s decadent.

I’m aroused beyond the point of good sense, each step a struggle because I want to spin and offer myself to the monster. Enjoy every single second of being consumed.

Tomorrow I’ll deal with what this says about my psyche.

Hollywood legend, 64, took fans by surprise this week, and it had nothing to do with a stunt. His latest on-screen transformation left him almost unrecognizable, and that's exactly the reaction his upcoming film is going for.

Warner Bros. released the first trailer for Digger, the upcoming comedy helmed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, giving fans their clearest look yet at Cruise's oddball character, Digger Rockwell.

Thanks to heavy prosthetics, Cruise appears noticeably older and heavier than his usual on-screen self. Fans flooded the comments with excitement over the transformation. "Give Tom his Oscar now tbh," one wrote, while another added, "THAT CAN'T BE TOM CRUISE😭😭😭"

Fans have also started rooting for Cruise to win an award, with one saying, "Honestly, I feel like Tom Cruise is coming for his Oscar nod," and another calling it a role "Audiences aren't ready for how unique this is 🔥🔥👏👏."

One fan praised his range directly: "Wow, congrats Tom! It's so refreshing to see you finally playing an older character. Sending much love!❤️" Others kept the energy high, with comments like "He's definitely got that Oscar. This is going to be insane," "THE OSCAR IS YOURS KING," and simply, "THATS MY GOAT."

The role marks a real shift for Cruise, whose output over the past decade has centered almost entirely on the Mission: Impossible and Top Gun franchises. Digger is his first film outside of those two series since 2017's American Made.

Cruise reflected on what drew him to the project back in April at CinemaCon, where he appeared alongside Iñárritu to build buzz for the film. "This kind of movie is why I wanted to make movies… I have to say, it took 40 years for me to be able to put on the boots of Digger Rockwell," he said, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

Digger hits theaters October 2, 2026.

The gruff novelist father of Julia Louis-Dreyfus's Elaine, Tierney appeared in only a single episode of Seinfeld back in season 2's "The Jacket," which saw him share several awkward interactions with Jerry and George.

While it seemed like Tierney might eventually become a regular guest star in the same vein as Frank and Estelle Costanza or Morty and Helen Seinfeld, a strange incident on the Seinfeld set resulted in Tierney being permanently banned from the show.

As FamilyMinded described it, the veteran actor Tierney attempted to remove a large butcher knife from the set of Jerry's New York apartment, slipping the blade away into his jacket pocket.

When Seinfeld confronted him about the missing knife, Tierney apparently brandished the knife at the comedian in a mock stabbing motion, playing the incident off as a strange joke.

Reflecting on the incident in the season 2 DVD extras, Seinfeld's cast and crew revealed how "scared" they were of Tierney, with Jason Alexander saying that the actor "scared the living crap out of all of us."

Years later, Tierney's on-screen daughter Louis-Dreyfus shared similar sentiments when describing Tierney's performance, calling him a "total nutjob." However, the Veep actress also emphasized how talented a performer Tierney remained in front of the cameras, something that no doubt helped capture the awkwardness of his encounters with the show's characters.
