Aileen Quinn was just a kid when she became a movie legend thanks to her role in the beloved film version of Annie. But in the present day, the actress has barely changed!

Based on the Little Orphan Annie comic strip, the 1982 film starred Quinn alongside Carol Burnett, Albert Finney, Tim Curry, and Bernadette Peters. With a bevy of musical numbers that Americans still sing to this day, the film is played over and over in 2026.

While Quinn skyrocketed to fame as a child star, she decided to pursue a more normal life when she became an adult. But in a rare appearance this week at Steel City Comic Con, the redheaded beauty showed off a stunning smile that made it clear she hasn't changed all that much since her days as everyone's favorite singing orphan. Those cheeks are still the same!

Back in 2022, Quinn opened up about what it took to get the starring role in the iconic film. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Quinn shared that the audition process was "Long – very long."

"There were several times that I just assumed it wasn’t going to happen. I think my mom felt that way as well at one point. I went back for eight separate auditions for almost a year. It was a long process for me. I kept making it to the next level and getting callback after callback, which was unusual," she shared. "Usually in musical theater, which I’ve done for years, there are maybe three callbacks at most. But this was eight. And the last two were in Hollywood. They flew us out there with the nine finalists. And then, of course, after the screen test with Albert, they took it down to three. It was quite a process."

Why Did Aileen Quinn Ditch Hollywood?

While Quinn was originally under contract to do several sequels to Annie, none of them materialized. At that point, she didn't seem to mind that much. At 18, she decided she had done her time in Hollywood.

"My mom was a school teacher for many years, so education was always very important. They were very strict on the set about me getting my three hours of school a day. And when I came back from filming, my teachers didn’t cut me any breaks," Quinn recalled to the publication. "Don’t get me wrong, they loved it, they were happy for me, and they wanted my autograph too, but they were like, 'Welcome back to test-taking. Be your usual A+ student."

Seeking a dose of normalcy, Quinn wanted to go to college and travel the world. She went on to graduate from Drew University in 1994, Entertainment Weekly reported.

John Nolan, the paternal uncle of filmmakers Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, was a classically trained character actor who played Clitus in Julius Caesar with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He made his screen debut in 1967 and went on to do regular television work.

John is most well-known for playing Wayne Enterprises board member Fredericks in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises. He also played ex-MI6 agent, John Greer, the main antagonist in season two of Person of Interest. Throughout his six-decade career, he has also narrated documentaries, appeared in radio and TV advertisements, and acted in Dune: Prophecy, Dunkirk, and General Hospital.

John shared a son and a daughter with his wife, Kim Hartman, an English actress. The pair tied the knot in 1975, spending over 50 years together. She recently described him when speaking to the Stratford-upon-Avon Herald. She called him “a free spirit, who always knew what he wanted and acted on his own terms; the only truly original thinker I think I ever knew. Articulate, intelligent and with an anarchic wit, he was always willing to see both sides of an argument.”

His wife went on to say, “He was also the kindest person I ever knew—and animals loved him too! John was a popular and talented teacher, whether explaining a Shakespeare soliloquy or how to swing a golf club, and was devoted to his family.”

Fans on social media have also shared kind words about the star after learning of his passing. More than one referred to him as "the greatest villain on television." One comment on Reddit said, “His presence really gave Person of Interest an edge as they got more serialized. Phenomenal performer. Really nailed those shit-eating grins.”

Another said, “I know he was the Nolans’ uncle and they liked to place him in their projects, but I liked it when he popped up. He had just a couple lines in Dunkirk as a blind war vet welcoming the soldiers home, but it was probably my favorite cameo of his.”

John died on April 11, 2026. He was 87.

“Consistency matters more than intensity. What you do regularly in small increments shapes your health far more than what you do occasionally at high intensity,” says Dr. Abid Husain, MD, FACC, an integrative cardiologist and functional medicine doctor at the Boulder Longevity Institute. 

Walking is a great example of this. Scientific research shows that walking regularly is associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. But how long does it take to start making a positive impact? We talked to cardiologists to find out.

How Walking Supports Heart Health 

According to both of the cardiologists we talked to, walking is one of the best habits you can have when it comes to supporting your cardiovascular health. “Walking is often overlooked as an effective form of exercise, but it can be incredibly effective for heart health when done consistently,” says Dr. John Conte, MD, a cardiologist and the medical director of cardiothoracic at XVIVO, a medical technology company specializing in organ transplants. 

Dr. Husain echoes this, explaining, “Walking is one of the most effective ways to support your heart because it improves circulation, blood sugar and blood pressure without putting your body under excess stress. It’s the most accessible type of activity that most of us can do.”

Both cardiologists say that walking benefits the entire body, but it’s especially beneficial for heart health. Dr. Conte explains that walking helps keep blood pressure within a healthy range and supports healthier blood vessels, reducing strain on the heart. “Over time, it also strengthens the heart muscle, allowing it to work more efficiently,” he says. 

On top of that, Dr. Conte notes that walking regularly has been shown to improve cholesterol levels by raising HDL “good” cholesterol and lowering LDL “bad” cholesterol. He adds that it also reduces stress hormones such as cortisol, which can contribute to irregular heart rhythms.

How Long It Takes for Walking To Make a Noticeable Impact on Heart Health

It’s encouraging to know that you don’t have to go on long, strenuous runs to support your heart; walking regularly is enough to make a major impact. But how often and for how long should your walks be? And how long does it take before it makes a noticeable difference in your heart health?

In terms of how often and how long to walk, Dr. Conte and Dr. Husain both point to the American Heart Association’s physical activity guidelines, which recommend getting at least 150 minutes (2.5 hours) of moderate-intensity physical activity a week. This comes out to roughly 20 minutes of walking a day.

“Walking doesn’t have to be long or strenuous,” Dr. Husain explains, adding that a good goal is to aim for walking 30 minutes most days of the week, at a pace where you feel slightly out of breath but still comfortable. “If that sounds like too much, then start with 10 minutes,” he says.     

Dr. Conte adds hat what’s most important is consistency. “What matters most is finding a routine that’s realistic and sustainable. It doesn’t have to be intense to be effective. In fact, keeping it manageable makes it more likely you’ll create a habit and stick with it.”

Dr. Husain says that a great way to integrate walking into your daily routine is to walk after eating dinner. “Any activity after meals does wonders to regulate blood sugar and cholesterol after eating."

Want to get even more benefits out of your walk? Dr. Conte recommends interval training. “This is a mix of faster walking to raise your heart rate with a leisurely pace for a couple of blocks. The goal is to create a habit you can maintain over time to sustain long-term heart health,” he says.

Okay, you’ve committed to walking regularly. When will it make a noticeable difference in your heart health? Both doctors say that most people will notice a difference in how they feel in just two or three weeks. “Within about two weeks, people who walk consistently notice better sleep, increased energy and an overall sense of feeling better,” Dr. Conte says.

Why You Should Prioritize Consistency When Walking

That said, both doctors explain that the real cardiovascular benefits happen slowly over time. That’s why it’s important to be consistent with your walking. “The more measurable cardiovascular benefits, such as improvements in blood pressure and cholesterol, tend to build gradually with consistent effort," Dr. Conte explains.

He adds that how quickly these changes happen depends on frequency and on the other habits someone has, such as what their diet looks like. He emphasizes that pairing regular movement with a heart-healthy diet can really amplify the impact.

When it comes to exercise and heart health, the big takeaway is that it’s what we do regularly that matters most. “Consistency over intensity. The heart is a muscle, and like any muscle, it responds to regular use. If you don’t use it, you lose some of that strength over time,” Dr. Conte says.

Dr. Conte adds that exercise doesn’t have to happen every single day, but does recommend aiming for five days a week. “I also suggest that people consider lifestyle modifications, such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator and walking a few blocks instead of driving. Those small, repeatable choices add up to better heart health,” he says.

The more you walk, the more your heart will benefit. And you’ll notice a difference in how you feel sooner than you think!

The Audacity is shaping up to be AMC's next sensation.

The series follows Duncan Park (Billy Magnussen), a data scraper CEO in Silicon Valley, and his sociopathic machinations and relationship with his manipulative therapist (Sarah Goldberg), who enables his worst impulses and behavior.

In the show, Park, Goldberg and their families, friends and colleagues live in an insular bubble in Palo Alto, Calif., and most of them would do anything—anything—to get ahead and get richer.

Magnussen said that while Park was partially inspired by the likes of Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and WeWork CEOAdam Neumann, he didn't set out to mimic any member of their financially insatiable ilk individually.

“We see these names in all the headlines in the papers, these titans are up there," he told TV Insider. "My job as an actor is to come in and take little pieces from each of them and put something together to be the guy that’s not a tech titan, but is just under them and is hungry enough to find and fill that space.”

Created by Succession writer Jonathan Glatzer, the show combines elements of the critically acclaimed HBO dramedy with Silicon Valley to create a universe that's unique in how hilarious and dramatic, but also realistic and prescient, it is.

“These characters live in a world where they all have kids going to the same school and they know each other, because they’re all in the same business or adjacent businesses,” Glatzer told TV Insider. “So it’s sort of like, ‘Well, what if we turned Silicon Valley into Peyton Place?'”

There’s nothing better than sitting down with a good book—but if you’re not in the mood to read a long, dense story, there are plenty of novels that you can finish in only a few hours. To find one, Goodreads users have compiled the “Best Short and Sweet Books Under 250 Pages.” At the top of the list is Ray Bradbury’s classic novel, Fahrenheit 451.

This bestselling book, which was published in 1953, is a dystopian story about a future society where books have been outlawed and “firemen” burn any that they find. The main character, Guy Montag, works as a firefighter who starts to question everything that he knows. The story is about censorship and conformity, topics which remain relevant to this day.

“We need to be really bothered once in a while,” Bradbury wrote in the novel. “How long is it since you were really bothered? About something important, about something real?”

Goodreads reviewers have given this book nearly 4 out of 5 stars. One fan said, “Every line of Fahrenheit 451 is beautifully written. Poetic. Metaphoric. Transcendent. Awesome. The beginning, middle, and ending... all amazing.” Another said, “Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 is a novel that transcends its dystopian theme and delivers its cautionary message in a timeless fashion. What made this story compelling in 1953 remains provocative.”

Fahrenheit 451 was adapted into a 1966 film directed by François Truffaut. It was also adapted into a 2018 HBO thriller starring Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon. However, most fans agree that they enjoy the novel more than the adaptations.

Bradbury is one of the most celebrated authors from the 20th century. Although Fahrenheit 451 is his most well-known work, he wrote other popular stories throughout his seven-decade career, like The Martian Chronicles, The Illustrated Man, and Wicked This Way Comes. In 2012, the author passed away in his Los Angeles home at the age of 91.

Other novels that made the list of “Best Short and Sweet Books Under 250 Pages” include The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.

Star Wars is heading back to theaters for the first time in nearly seven years, and the early numbers are already stirring up a familiar feeling among fans.

The analytics firm Box Office Theory this week released its first tracking estimates for The Mandalorian & Grogu, the upcoming Jon Favreau-directed film starring Pedro Pascal and the small green creature the internet refuses to stop loving. The low-end projection: $71 million for the domestic opening three-day weekend when the film opens May 22. The higher end sits around $85 million. Neither figure is particularly alarming in isolation. Both numbers would represent a solid Memorial Day opening for most films.

For Star Wars, though, context changes everything. The last time the franchise opened this modestly was Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, which debuted to $84.4 million and went on to become the first genuine box office disappointment in Disney's Star Wars era. If the tracking holds at its lower end, The Mandalorian & Grogu would open below Solo, making it the lowest debut for a Disney-era Star Wars film by a meaningful margin. The Rise of Skywalker opened to $177 million in 2019. Rogue One managed $155 million in 2016.

Analysts point to a few specific headwinds. The show's cultural peak came during its second season in late 2020, when Baby Yodamemes were inescapable and the series felt like a rare bright spot during a difficult stretch. Three seasons and nearly three years later, that momentum has cooled. There's also the broader problem of streaming-to-theater transitions. The Marvel Cinematic Universe ran into the same wall with several of its Disney+ spinoff films, and the pattern is consistent enough that industry trackers now treat it as a structural challenge rather than a marketing failure.

There is, however, a counterargument that the tracking is missing something. The film's budget, estimated at around $166 million by the California Film Commission, is by far the lowest of the Disney Star Wars era, which means it doesn't need to perform like The Force Awakens to turn a profit. Word of mouth and family audiences over the Memorial Day holiday weekend could push the four-day total well above the three-day projection. Box Office Theory itself notes the film benefits from being the first major family-friendly release since April, which creates pent-up demand heading into the summer.

Favreau and the production have also leaned hard into practical effects and a grounded tone that fans of the original series tend to respond to. Grogu remains one of the most commercially potent characters in recent pop culture history, and Pedro Pascal's mainstream profile is considerably larger now than it was when the show premiered in 2019.

The film still has six weeks of marketing to go. Early tracking numbers regularly shift, sometimes dramatically. For now, though, the conversation around The Mandalorian & Grogu has shifted from pure anticipation to something more complicated wondering just how many people will want to see Grogu on the big screen.

From pioneering late-night show formats to redefining the art of entertainment interviews, the iconic TV host David Letterman is celebrating not just another milestone but his 79th year of life.

A trailblazer in American television with a career spanning over five decades, the Indianapolis native has received countless achievements and recognitions, including setting records as one of the longest-serving late-night hosts in U.S. history.

Letterman has surpassed his predecessor, the late Johnny Carson, who was long considered the "King of Late Night" for his 30-year reign on The Tonight Show.

As we look back on the legendary TV host, here are some of his most memorable highlights throughout his career.

Born on April 12, 1947, Letterman has been working in the spotlight since college, where he worked as a newscaster and radio announcer at the student-run station WBST at Ball State University, where he earned a degree in radio and television.

As a tribute to his legacy as a proud alumnus, Ball State University named its $21 million facility the David Letterman Communication and Media Building, which houses the College of Communication, Information and Media.

After college, he began his professional career in front of the camera, working as a weather presenter and anchor in 1970 at an NBC-affiliated television station in Indianapolis.

With his natural wit and on-air charm, he also worked as a talk show host at a local radio station.

Fast forward to 1980, and he had his own morning show titled The David Letterman Show.

Despite the daytime program’s short-lived run of only three months, it earned notable recognition after winning at the 1981 Daytime Emmy Awards, particularly Outstanding Host or Hostess in a Variety Series and Outstanding Individual Achievement in Writing for him and his writing team.

Little did he know that the short-lived show would open the door to a late-night dynasty beginning with NBC's Late Night with David Letterman from 1982 to 1993 and eventually evolving into The Late Show with David Letterman on CBS, which aired for 22 years from 1993 to 2015.

Throughout his reign in late-night television, Letterman cemented his name in the industry with 14 Primetime Emmy Awards, a two-time winner of a prestigious Peabody Award, a Career Achievement Award from the Television Critics Association in 2012 and more.

In 2015, after 33 years in late-night television, the award-winning host officially retired from hosting with the show’s final episode on May 20.

However, he has since shifted his focus to new creative endeavors, including producing and hosting the Netflix series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman.

‘The Alice Network’ by Kate Quinn

The pick for July 2017, The Alice Network was Kate Quinn’s debut novel that put her on the map. She quickly followed up with The Huntress and The Rose Code, and she has The Astral Library coming out soon. It’s worth devouring everything that she writes!

The Alice Network follows the lives of two women 30 years apart. In 1915, we follow Eve Gardiner as she longs to fight in the war against the Germans and finds herself working as a spy. Then in 1947, Charlie St. Clair is on the verge of being thrown out of her very proper family due to being unmarried and pregnant. Her banishment to France leads to her heading out on a journey to find out what happened to her cousin, Rose, who disappeared during World War II.

Quinn has the ability to mix fiction and fact into all of her novels. Both Eve and Charlie are female protagonists that you want to see achieve their goals, but there are some wild twists thrown their way as they do it.

‘This Is How It Always Is’ by Laurie Frankel

There are certain books that sit with you for days after you’ve finished. Some of these books you need to take a breath during as you take in the fictional story. This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel is one of those books.

The modern-day story is one of Claude, a five-year-old who knows one thing. He wants to be a girl when he grows up. After all, he loves to wear dresses and play princesses, and his parents are on board with allowing him to be whatever he wants. They just don’t want the secret coming out when he’s only five.

There’s a deepness to Claude’s parents’ story, as they navigate this unknown. Parenting doesn’t come with a manual, and not everyone goes through the exact same thing with their children. This is one of those books that you can probably read before being a parent and after you become one to see a completely different viewpoint, making it a powerful release.

‘Daisy Jones and The Six’ by Taylor Jenkins Reid

You’ve likely seen the Prime Video series starring Riley Keogh and Sam Claflin. Now you need to read the novel. In fact, Taylor Jenkins Reid is another author you’ll devour anything from once you start.

Daisy Jones and The Six focuses on a band that had one hit night that ended up being their last. They broke up for unknown reasons, and they’ve never spoken about it since. However, they decide that it’s time to tell their story, from how Daisy Jones joined The Six to why they then ended up disappearing from the limelight forever.

Jones captures the heart of the ‘60s throughout her novel, and she brings a rawness to the pain that each character feels. She does an excellent job in developing a story that feels very much like all the bands of the past without being a complete copy and paste.

‘The Henna Artist’ by Alka Joshi

There are a lot of historical fiction stories on this list, and that’s because this is one of the genres that Witherspoon loves so much. However, this genre is expansive, and each one will give you a different story. The Henna Artistby Alka Joshi doesn’t just take you to the 1950s, but it also takes you another part of the world.

17-year-old Lakshmi manages to escape an abusive marriage, and she heads to the city of Jaipur to start her new life. What a life she manages, as well, becoming the most highly requested henna artist in the city. She works with the wealthiest women in the upper class, where she has also gained their confidence.

There is an element of Mean Girls mixed into this story, as Lakshmi needs to deal with the problematic world of gossip and social vipers. There’s also a little bit of Pretty Little Liars, as secrets are revealed when this teen’s husband turns back up to change her life completely.

‘The Guest List’ by Lucy Foley

For those who do need a modern-day book, The Guest List by Lucy Foley is one to put on your list. She’s another author that I will read anything by, and I make it through her novels within a day. They’re unputdownable.

The Guest List brings multiple people to an island off the coast of Ireland. They’re all guests at a wedding, and most of them know each other. However, secrets start to come out, and soon enough, there’s a dead body and a plan that seems to be going off the rails.

This is a story that’s told from multiple viewpoints, and there are twists that you will not see coming. Just as you think you’ve figured out who the murderer is, you’re thrown for another loop. The question becomes whether anyone will get off the island alive.

‘The Club’ by Ellery Lloyd

If you love a sinister mystery that also includes a Real Housewives vibe, then The Club by Ellery Lloyd is the next from Reese’s Book Club to put on your list. It’s packed with twists and exhilarating moments that makes you question everything you read before.

It all starts with The Home Group, a glamorous collection of celebrity members’ clubs all over the world. Everyone who is anyone wants to get in, and the most luxurious of them all is the Island Home just off the English coast. While all looks peaceful from the outside, behind closed doors the Home Group’s CEO and his team have been pushed to their limits, and soon, ugly secrets are exposed.

The Club offers multiple POVs, drawing you further and deeper into the story. While being a thriller, there are also light-hearted moments as you roll your eyes at the rich and famous. Put in the locked-room vibe and there’s an Agatha Christie element if she wrote in the current day.

‘The House of Eve’ by Sadeqa Johnson

Sadeqa Johnson has this ability to bring intriguing fictional stories with a heartwrenching touch of real history. Yellow Wife was the first one I ever read, and the minute The House of Eve was released, I knew I needed it. And I knew it would be just as good.

It’s 1950s America, and 15-year-old Ruby Pearsall is on track to become the first in her family to go to college. That is until the Philadelphia teen finds herself pregnant and at a loss of what to do. Meanwhile, in Washington D.C., Eleanor Quarles has married into a rich Black family, and she doesn’t feel like she can fit in at all. Surely having a baby will help, but that seems easier said than done.

The two women’s lives collide in ways that they never expected, but at the heart of this story is one of class, the horrors of the treatment and shaming of women, and a compelling focus on finding the light within it all. And yes, read Yellow Wife after that. Johnson has just had released Keeper of Lost Children, and it’s on my TBR as I write!

This list isn't to say none of the other books on Reece's Book Club are worth reading. You may even find that some of them didn't sit with you the way they did for me. However, when you need a place to start, these seven books are worth it.

Wedding bells won't be ringing for Sydney Sweeney and Jonathan Davino. After nearly seven years together, the Euphoria star and the businessman called it quits last year.

In March 2025, TMZ confirmed that Sweeney and Davino had separated in January. The outlet previously reported that the pair had postponed their wedding, which was supposed to happen in May.

An insider told People in March 2025 that their relationship had been "rocky for a long time."

"What did make her overwhelmed though was her relationship and her wedding. She didn't feel right about it," the insider explained, adding that Sweeney is "in the middle of this magical career that she could only dream of a few years ago. This is what she wants to focus on right now."

Rumors of a split started brewing after outlets reported in March 2025 that Sweeney was living without Davino at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The actress fueled speculation when she deleted a photo of the pair kissing from her Instagram.

Although Sweeney has been tight-lipped about Davino, she told Glamour UK in 2023 that he's a "business guy" from Chicago. "I've been in a steady relationship for a really long time, which is not normal in this industry and not normal for my age," said Sweeney, who called Davino her "best friend."

The actress has also spoken out about her independence in the past, clapping back at fans' assumptions that Davino, who is 42, was paying for everything in their relationship.

"I'm a very successful, independent woman who's worked really hard," Sweeney told Glamour in an October 2024 interview. "I've accomplished and bought everything myself, and I provide for myself and my family."

David Cassidy was honored by fans 76 years after his birth. The beloved actor and singer, who rose to fame in the 1970s on the hit TV show The Partridge Family, died in 2017. But nine years later, fans paid tribute to him on social media on his April 12 birthdate.

In a comment on Cassidy’s Facebook fan page, one fan wrote, “Happy Heavenly Birthday, David! I grew up listening to your incredible voice, watching you on The Partridge Family and being a member of your fan club. You will always be remembered and a part of our lives. “

“Listening to David this morning... Such a beautiful young man and voice - simply engaging,” another wrote. “You will never be forgotten.”

“Ever since I became a fan, I celebrate his birthday every year," a third fan wrote.

"Still watching The Partridge Family, where David will forever be 22. Wonderful memories. We remember you, David, on your birthday,” another fan added.

Another Facebook post revealed that Cassidy would be remembered on his birthday during a church service near his childhood home in West Orange, New Jersey. “David was baptized, attended bible study classes, was lead soloist in the junior choir, and was a congregation member of Holy Trinity Church,” the post read.

Cassidy was bigger than the Beatles at the height of his fame

Cassidy was born on April 12, 1950, to actors Jack Cassidy and Evelyn Ward. In 1970, he was cast on The Partridge Family alongside his then-stepmother Shirley Jones.

Cassidy's real singing voice was heard on the made-for-TV hit songs “I Think I Love You,” "Doesn’t Somebody Want to be Wanted,” and “I Woke Up in Love This Morning.” By the time The Partridge Family ended in 1974, Cassidy was one of the biggest teen idols in the world, traveling the world on a stadium tour.

In the A&E documentary David Cassidy: The Last Session, Cassidy’s co-star Danny Bonaduce revealed, “His fan club was bigger than the Beatles’ and Elvis’s put together.”

Cassidy relished in the adulation—at first. In a  1972 interview with Rolling Stone, he shared, “There’s one song I do, ‘I Woke Up in Love This Morning,’ and I find a little place where I can sort of point to [the fans]. And they each think I mean them, and I do. Whew, I can’t wait. Let me get out there. Let me do it!”

“It’s a high going out on that stage. You look around, and it’s all there for you, people loving you like that,” he added.

His final years

Cassidy ultimately suffered from burnout and stepped away from the spotlight for a bit in the mid-1970s. He later returned to acting and to his music career.

In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Cassidy said he didn’t like being pigeonholed with the “teen Idol” label. “I always back away from labels, as I think it inhibits your creativity and your opportunities,” he said. "Don’t call me a heartthrob. Don’t call me a sex symbol. Call me a writer, a singer, a producer, an actor. Tell me I’m bad, tell me I’m lousy. But don’t call me that.”

Cassidy died of organ failure on Nov. 21, 2017. But he entertained fans right up until his death. In one of his final interviews before his passing, Cassidy, 67, appeared on the Children of Song podcast and revealed his plans for retirement.

"Well, 49 years is a long career," Cassidy said. "'Believe it or not, because I traveled so much but only for work, I'm going to take a long trip, vacation, and actually see some of the places I thought were great."

Not many people know what they want to be when they grow up with absolute certainty, but Sherman Gillums Jr. knew he was destined for the Marine Corps. At just 16, he made the decision, and on his 17th birthday, he underwent the full physical and mental evaluation. From then on, his life seemed like a straight path that led him to serve for 12 years. At 29, when Gillums was in prime marathon-running form, life as he knew it changed forever.

Gillums was involved in a triple rollover crash after being cut off by a semi-truck that swerved into his lane to avoid hitting another car that was trying to catch his exit.

"I was unconscious for three days and woke up in a new body," Gillums tells Parade. "I was a day or two away from checking into my new unit, 1st Marine Division, which was set to deploy to Afghanistan."

A New Way of Life

Faced with a new reality, the Marine initially wasn't sure what to make of his life.

"You hear all the statistics about the slight chance that you won’t fall into the majority of injury cases," he recalls. "So that small chance, even if it’s only a point percentage, becomes what you hang your hope on. I was too early in the injury to understand the full extent. It would take me about a month or two to realize how limited I’d be in my new body, and after several months, I slowly began to accept that this is what life was going to look like going forward."

His military training came in clutch here, not just with his physical capabilities but his mental fortitude. He found a way to carry out all of his "normal" functions by approaching them from alternative angles or by implementing tools that enabled him to be independent.

"The first thing you learn when you become paralyzed is the importance of having foresight and thinking creatively about how to carry out tasks that could someday become a matter of life or death," he explains. "I got to this point by watching a lot of people who were in a similar circumstance and maintaining a willingness to try just about anything until I made it work, no matter how long it took, how many times I had fallen backward, or how hard it appeared to be."

Also, having four sons and two daughters helped keep him focused and on track. After all, they needed him no matter how difficult life was. In that steadfast accountability to them, he was able to truly show up for himself.

"I couldn’t get caught up in how bad a day was going because my wheelchair was broken or maybe I felt disrespected at a store because someone parked in the only remaining accessible spot with no placard or indication of a disability," he says of being a father while navigating a disability. "They only know me in a wheelchair, so to them I was normal. I attended parent-teacher conferences and sporting events, and maintained order and structure in the house, just like any other dad."

A New Purpose

The thing about Gillums is that nothing has ever stopped him from being the 16-year-old kid who felt that inner drive to make a difference. Post-spinal cord injury, he has accomplished more in his life than many typically able-bodied people.

In addition to earning his doctorate, Gillums has also written books and transitioned from seeking assistance at Paralyzed Veterans of America to overseeing its architecture and vocational services. Eventually, he rose to his current role as Senior Director of Public Policy and Advocacy at The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.

In this capacity, he leads national advocacy efforts to advance research and dismantle the "invisible" barriers of societal apathy and physical inaccessibility, utilizing a leadership style forged in the Marine Corps that he says has "continued to pay dividends in just about every leadership role" he has held since his honorable discharge.

Rather than simply rescuing others, Sherman focuses on empowering individuals to choose their own independence, driven by the firm conviction that "life is meant to be lived, not survived, and that includes persons who overcome the challenge of starting down a new path when they find themselves with a spinal cord injury."

That doesn't mean his life is easy by any means. Gillums struggles with consistent nerve pain and working through troubling thoughts, but he focuses on finding peace for himself and others by aiming to inspire "every waking minute," whether they have spinal cord issues or not. He emphasizes that struggle comes in all shapes and sizes, and recognizing that shared humanity has made a huge difference in his life.

"I use the term 'every waking minute' a lot because there’s hardly ever a moment when you’re not confronted with some aspect of living with a spinal cord injury that tries to distract you from the ordinary aspects of getting up, getting kids ready for school, getting ready for work, and simply going through the day doing what everyone else does," he says.

"There’s someone on earth who went through exactly what you went through and found a way, so reclaiming your life is about being diligent in the pursuit of what that means for you, starting with constantly enhancing your value to yourself and others in a way that gives you purpose."

“Shake, Rattle, and Roll” is a timeless party song that still gets crowds onto the dance floor to this day. The original track was created 72 years ago. It was recorded in New York City on February 15, 1954 by Big Joe Turner and released in April of the same year. The song, which popularized the phrase, became an instant hit. It ended up reaching No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart and No. 22 on the Billboard singles chart.

Although Big Joe Turner was originally known as a rhythm and blues singer, this song is credited with influencing the mainstream rock and roll genre. As one of the comments underneath a video from his Rhythm & Blues Revue performance says, “I know people say this isn't rock but it is. Rock doesn't require an electric guitar.” Another said, “Big Joe rules! One of the finest examples of rock and roll being born from the blues.”

The song was written by Jesse Stone, who is usually credited as "Charles Calhoun." He is also responsible for writing "Money Honey" by The Drifters. His compositions are known for shaping the style of early rock and roll.

Many different artists have performed “Shake, Rattle, and Roll” over the years. Bill Haley & His Comets recorded a cover version in 1954. This became the signature theme song and victory song for the Springfield Indians and Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League. Elvis also covered the song in 1956.

Big Joe Turner was an iconic performer from Kansas City, Missouri. Over his career, he had other hits like "Flip, Flop and Fly," "Honey Hush," and "Chains of Love." He won the Esquire magazine award for male vocalist in 1945 and the Melody Maker award for best new vocalist of 1956.

Turner died of heart failure in 1985 when he was 74. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Two years before his death, he was also inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.

When you ask chefs about boxed cake mix, you might expect a polite dismissal, but the reality is far more interesting. Across the board, the chefs we spoke to didn’t just tolerate boxed mixes—they embraced them, with a few strong opinions about what separates a good one from a great one.

And surprisingly, a clear theme emerged—the best boxed cake mixes, according to the pros, are the ones that include pudding in the mix. That one small detail, they say, is the difference between a decent cake and one that’s irresistibly moist, tender and bakery-worthy.

Chef Julie Lopez keeps it practical when it comes to her go-to picks. She regularly reaches for brands like Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker or Pillsbury—especially Funfetti—because they’re reliable, affordable and easy to find. But her biggest tip? Choose a boxed mix that has pudding in the mix, or she suggests to "mix in a box of pudding,” noting that it’s her secret to consistently moist cakes.

Agreeing that reliability is a major advantage, Chef Jennifer Struik also points to texture as a key factor. While she’s loyal to Pillsbury Funfetti for its iconic flavor, she highlights how certain mixes stand out for their consistency, including Betty Crocker’s Super Moist line. That signature softness, she notes, is hard to beat—even compared to some from-scratch versions.

Nguyen frequently incorporates overripe fruit, like mashed bananas, to give boxed mixes a unique twist, blurring the line between classic cake and something more inventive. For her, the appeal is simple: boxed mixes are convenient, approachable and deliver consistent results without the stress of precision baking.

Having taken over 50 cruises worldwide, I consistently select staterooms with balconies on top cruise lines such as Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Virgin Voyages. With the debut of the Norwegian Lunain Miami this month, I recently had the chance to experience the ship’s Family Balcony Stateroom category firsthand during the ship's christening as a travel writer and cruise expert. Located on a massive 3,565-passenger vessel, these rooms are designed with a specific multigenerational logic, but the reality of four people in 231 square feet requires a bit of a strategy.

While the stateroom is your sanctuary, the ship itself is designed as the ideal family-friendly playground. As the newest addition to the "Prima Plus" class, the Luna officially debuted in Miami this month, bringing several first-of-its-kind attractions to the high seas. The headliner is undoubtedly the Aqua Slidecoaster, a hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide that uses magnetic lift technology to propel riders through two distinct courses.

Beyond the adrenaline, the ship leans heavily into multigenerational fun with zones like the Luna Midway, an outdoor carnival-inspired space, Moon Climber, a multi-level obstacle course designed for kids and adults, Horizon Park, the recreational area with lawn-style games, and the Glow Court, a high-tech digital sports complex. For entertainment, the Luna is currently "striking gold" with its brand-new production, Elton: A Celebration, alongside fan-favorite tributes to Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles at Syd Norman’s Pour House.

Here's what I loved, liked and didn't love about the family balcony staterooms:

The Layout and Storage Solutions A bright look at the stateroom with bed, sliding glass door, sofa bed and more.

The design of this stateroom and the layout felt spacious, comfortable and enjoyable for a short stay. It features a comfy king-sized bed that can be split into two twins and a full-size sofa bed that serves as a tangible upgrade from the lower-end options found on older ships. But, the truth is that sofa bed sleeping likely isn't going to be as comfortable as a bed, so keep that in mind if you are the one designated to spend your nights there.

The desk in the cabin serves as both a vanity and a workstation, and the bedside tables provide additional storage, which was an added convenience. There’s also a refrigerator, high-end hairdryer and ample electronic outlets, which I found especially pleasing in the stateroom.

The cabin’s closet stood out with three wardrobe sections, shelves, wire drawers, a spacious hanging area and sliding doors for easy storage. Flexible shelving allowed customization for different needs, and the full-length mirror and safe completed the setup. While I noticed the closet doors could be somewhat challenging to slide at times—so be sure to keep little hands away from playing there—the storage was efficient, and NCL provided extra hooks on the wall, so there’s no need to bring your own.

“This family balcony cabin sleeps up to four people and is definitely one I recommend for families traveling together," says Kelly Connor, a travel agent with AAA Club Alliance Inc. in Marlton, New Jersey. "It’s a great option for parents or grandparents traveling with a teen, as it’s close to the teen activities area of the ship. It also makes a great choice if that teen wants to bring along a friend as well, due to the large sofa bed. Families with younger children love the sofa bed option, too.”

A "Winning" Bathroom Design The bathroom in the cabin is sleek and features a glass shower, storage options and large mirror.

The bathroom in our cabin was a legitimate highlight. The shower featured a sliding glass door, which reduced the annoying problem of the floor flooding—a common issue I have experienced on other cruise lines that provide rounded shower doors. "I particularly like the larger bathroom with the shower featuring sliding glass doors," says Connor. "That alone is a winning feature of this family balcony category on Luna." The shower also offered press-enhanced options, which was a nice touch that added to the "upgraded" feel of the space.

Security and the Balcony Experience

Outside, the balcony featured two comfortable chairs and a small table, offering a private space to enjoy the ocean views. I also want to mention a key safety measure: there's a lock/unlock switch to open the balcony door. This can provide a layer of security and peace of mind if you are traveling with young sailors.

However, it is important to note that not all balconies are created equal. I was a bit disappointed because our view was partially obstructed. To the left and straight on, there were ocean views, but to the right, all we saw were other staterooms and a section of the water slide. While young travelers might get excited about seeing the Aqua Slidecoaster from their room, if you are paying for clear sea views, be sure to ask your travel agent whether your specific balcony view is obstructed.

Managing Noise and Location

Our cabin was located right near the aft elevator bank on Deck 11, which meant we heard corridor noise often and could hear the elevator ding. It was somewhat annoying at times and I had to use a portable white noise machine to alleviate the sounds. I also heard noise from above, including things scratching the floors and vibration. To avoid these issues, it's always a good idea to check your ship deck plan to ensure you aren't directly below a high-traffic area like the pool deck or a galley.

How the Luna Compares to the Competition

As a cruise writer who has sailed across lines like Disney, Royal Caribbean and Viking Ocean, I found the Luna’s aft location highly accessible to both elevators and stairs, supported by a kind and efficient cabin attendant. However, it’s worth comparing this experience to a recent sailing on the Celebrity Xcel.

While the Luna offers a traditional walk-out balcony, the Xcel features a 201-square-foot "infinite veranda" that functions more like a massive power-operated window. While the bathroom layouts are comparable across both new ships, I found the Xcel’s cabin environment to be slightly quieter and easier to keep cool at night. Ultimately, while both the Luna and Xcel staterooms are perfectly sized for two guests or families with young children, those prioritizing true privacy and an abundance of space might still want to consider a suite or adjoining cabins for longer seven-night itineraries.

While a 2026 seven-night Eastern Caribbean sailing in a Family Balcony on the Norwegian Luna can start around $1,050-$1,200 per person, it often includes NCL’s "Free at Sea" promotion covering an open bar, specialty dining, and Wi-Fi. In comparison, a similar itinerary in an Infinite Verandah on the Celebrity Xcel generally starts at a higher price point of $1,450-$1,750 per person, though their "All Included" rates bundle in a classic drink package and basic internet.

However, it's important to note that pricing is not fixed. Cruise rates change constantly based on the time of year, how many cabins are left and current sales. Because both the Norwegian Luna and Celebrity Xcel are brand-new ships, they will likely stay at a premium price. To get the best deal, it's always smart to compare current online rates or ask a travel advisor to check for hidden discounts before you book.

Is It Right for Your Family?

This family balcony cabin sleeps up to four people and is a strong recommendation for families traveling together, especially those with teens, as it is close to the teen activity areas of the ship. However, while it worked well for my husband and me for three nights, the space could be tight for a full seven-night sailing with four guests. If your budget permits, a family suite or extra staterooms could be a better option for those seeking true privacy and an abundance of space.

Ultimately, the Family Balcony on the Norwegian Luna is a stylish and modern choice for the active family. By limiting extra clothing and being mindful of your location on the ship, it serves as a fantastic home base for exploring the Eastern and Western Caribbean.

Having been off TV for nearly four years, nobody would blame you for forgetting many of the details from the last season of the hit HBO drama, even if many of them were quite memorable. From the status of the show's central friendships to the death of major characters, here's what went down in Euphoria Season 3.

Euphoria Season 2 RecapWhat happened to Rue and Jules?

Over the course of Season 2, Rue (Zendaya) struggles with sobriety while managing her relationship with Jules (Hunter Schafer). She's inspired to get clean, but staying that way is hard. She relapses at a party when she meets Elliot (Dominic Fike), who later seems to have a fling with Jules himself. This leads Rue to buy drugs from Laurie (Martha Kelly), but when it's found by her mom (Nika King), it's all dumped down the toilet.

It turns out Elliot told Jules that Rue had relapsed, so Jules told Leslie about the cache of pills. Rue then has to figure out how to maneuver herself out of being $10,000 in debt to a drug dealer. By season's end, things seem somewhat unresolved with Laurie, but Rue has stayed sober. She decides not to try to work things out with Jules, instead focusing on her sobriety outside a romantic relationship.

What about Maddy and Cassie?

Maddy (Alexa Demie) and Nate (Jacob Elordi) begin the season broken up, though still very much emotionally tied to one another. At the same time, Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate are secretly seeing each other, hiding this from Maddy. Over many months, Cassie's behavior grows more erratic as she becomes increasingly isolated and obsessed with Nate, who himself wavers between the two girls. During an intervention for Rue, she reveals that Cassie and Nate have been seeing each other. Maddy feels betrayed, and Cassie spirals even further. After their dirty laundry is aired during the play, Nate dumps Cassie for good. By the end of the season, Maddy considers leaving town while Cassie feels more alone than ever.

Lexi's play airs out everyone's dirty laundry

Lexi (Maude Apatow) spent most of the season observing everyone else while kindling a relationship with Fezco (Angus Cloud). She channels her observations into a play called Our Life. In it, she exposes Rue's family trauma, Maddy and Cassie's friendship, Nate's toxic masculinity and her own personal feelings of invisibility. While the audience seems to love it, those who are its subjects are less flattered. Nate walks out, and Cassie interrupts the play itself.

Ashtray is snuffed out

As Fez had become romantically interested in Lexi, he promised he would attend her show. He also secretly shelters Faye (Chloe Cherry), who is being investigated by the police and his associate Custer (Tyler Chase) is an informant. In the season finale, Ashtray (Javon Walton) kills Custer, leading to a police raid on their apartment. In a shootout, Ashtray is killed and Fez is injured, then arrested. He misses Lexi's play.

Nate's dark past — and troubled future

Throughout the season, Nate struggles with his own identity. He confronts his father, Cal (Eric Dane), about his hidden past. In a flashback, we see Cal was in love with his best friend Derek (Henry Eikenberry). But once Marsha (Paula Marshall) got pregnant with Nate, Cal chose not to pursue his feelings for Derek. Having found a file of recordings of his father with underage individuals, Nate turns his father in to the police.

The Knockouts are over on Season 29 of The Voice and now there are only two more nights of competition ahead for the Top 9 contestants. Monday, April 13 is the two-hour semifinals, with the two-hour finale to air the following day on Tuesday, April 14.

The semifinals will see the number of contestants cut to only four for the finale. Both Adam Levine and John Legend will each have one artist representing them in the finale, but Kelly Clarkson will have two as the result of winning the All-Star Showdown.

The vote for the first time is not being done by America as there are no live shows this season. Rather, an audience comprised of Superfans and former Voice contestants will vote and determine the winner.

Florida's senior-friendly tax laws and mild winters make it a dream destination for many retirees. Thanks to the Sunshine State's vast landscape, those looking to spend their golden years in Florida can pretty much find anything they are looking for, including urban condos and rural cabins. However, when it comes to exactly where you want to call home, real estate pros say that some locations are definitely better than others.

From neighborhoods where seniors are known to brawl over golf cart parking, to places where you can kick back and enjoy some peace and quiet, the local pros I spoke with said that these are the best and worst Florida towns you can retire to.

Worst: The Villages

Central Florida is home to The Villages, a top-of-the-line retirement community that was built with seniors in mind. The neighborhoods are walkable, full of activities to keep seniors busy during the day, and rich in the natural beauty that many people come to Florida to experience.

However, Jeff Lichtenstein, CEO and Broker with Echo Fine Properties in Palm Beach Gardens, says it's not for everyone. "If you like to fight and argue with people on golf carts, then the Villages is a good place to go," he says, noting that the region is hot, far away from the beach, and doesn't offer much in the way of culture.

"Very famous for political infighting along with having the highest STD rates in the U.S.," he continues, adding that it's close to nearby Silver Spring, which also has a reputation for having a population of wild monkeys.

Best: Palm Beach County

As an alternative to The Villages, Lichtenstein suggests Palm Beach County, citing the region's access to cruise ports, culture, art, food, concert venues, and access to "beautiful blue" beaches. "The temperature is typically 80 degrees in the water," he continues, adding that you can expect to experience warmer winters here as well.

Worst: Miami

Retirees looking to move to the middle of the action may get more than they bargain for in Miami, according to Suzanne Vasbinder, Owner and Broker with Your Home Sold Guaranteed Realty-Vasbinder International, LLC. She says many seniors may find themselves financially strapped here, thanks to the high cost of the condo and homeowners' association dues.

Best: Babcock Ranch

Looking for an inland home that doesn't often see the worst of Florida's hurricane season? Vasbinder suggests Babcock Ranch. "There are several Golf Courses, and all of the utilities are underground," she says of the newer planned community development.

"It's America's first solar town. It's located inland, which is ideal for retirees who are looking to live outside a flood zone," she continues, noting that it was rated as one of the best cities to live in 2024 by Money magazine.

"Babcock Ranch has a town center with lots of activities such as farmer markets, food trucks, festivals, music, and more," she says. Not only that, seniors looking for quick, easy access to healthcare will feel right at home, since there is a Lee Health satellite office and Tampa General Hospital's urgent care center nearby. "From Babcock Ranch, you have easy access to RSW airport as well as Punta Gorda airport. It's also centrally located with easy access to Orlando, Tampa, Naples, and the Florida Beaches."

Worst: Punta Gorda

Speaking of healthcare, those looking for quick, easy access to their healthcare providers may want to skip Punta Gorda, according to Scott Swonger, a HomeSmart real estate agent from Sarasota and Venice, Florida. "The area has taken a hard decline economically, and health care is not as abundant, and we lost a couple of our bigger hospitals in hurricanes that have never been rebuilt," he says.

Best: Venice

This Sarasota County town has earned Swonger's seal of approval due to it's location between Sarasota and Fort Meyers, which makes it within easy reach of international airports for those retirees who want to prioritize travel.

"The local community theater, Venice Theater, is among the best in the U.S.," he continues, adding that Venice is also the shark tooth capital of the world. "The tides bring in fossils and shark teeth, and it’s a lot of fun to find them on the beach."

Oh, and when it comes to healthcare, Venice has plenty of options as well. "Venice also has a very good health care system. "It has a mix of newer and historical communities," according to Swonger, who says it's home to the sixth-largest master planned community in the U.S., called Wellen Park, which also has a popular 55+ area.  

Of course, for every town that was named the worst in the state for retirees, I could've probably found someone who would tell you why they are so happy to have moved there. That's why it's so important to do your research and decide what matters most to you in retirement, and then try to find a town or city that can meet those requirements.

Some love stories never really go out of style. And according to readers, one classic still defines the genre.

What begins with misunderstandings and bruised pride slowly transforms into one of literature’s most iconic romances, and one that has inspired plenty of love stories in books over the years.

Pride and Prejudice has earned an average rating of around 4.3 stars across millions of reader reviews on Goodreads, making it one of the platform’s most widely read and highly rated books. It has also sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, cementing its place as one of the most popular novels ever written.

Over the years, the story has also inspired countless adaptations across film, television and literature, helping introduce Elizabeth and Darcy’s love story to new generations again and again. A few notable examples include the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen and the Bridget Jones’s Diary novel and movie adaptation. A new adaptation of the book is also on its way to Netflix.

Unfortunately, Austen never knew the enormous impact of her work. Her novels were published anonymously during her lifetime and only gained widespread recognition after her death. Along with Pride and Prejudice, she also wrote Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, and Lady Susan.

Today, however, her work is considered foundational to the romance genre and literature in general, and her second novel, Pride and Prejudice, remains at the center of that legacy.
