According to the New York Times, here's exactly how to play Strands:

Find theme words to fill the board.

• Theme words stay highlighted in blue when found.
• Drag or tap letters to create words. If tapping, double-tap the last letter to submit.
• Theme words fill the board entirely. No theme words overlap.

Find the “spangram.”

• The spangram describes the puzzle's theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. It may be two words.
• The spangram highlights in yellow when found.
• An example spangram with corresponding theme words: PEAR, FRUIT, BANANA, APPLE, etc.

Need a hint?

• Find non-theme words to get hints.
• For every three non-theme words you find, you earn a hint.

When The Johnny Cash Show premiered on ABC on June 7, 1969, it wasn’t just another new television variety program entering the summer lineup.

It was a landmark night for country music on national TV—featuring Johnny Cash at the height of his popularity, a guest appearance from Bob Dylan, and a stacked supporting cast that included June Carter, the Carter Family, the Statler Brothers and Carl Perkins.

The premiere, filmed at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, signaled something new: country music wasn’t staying in regional venues or radio playlists anymore.

It was moving directly into American living rooms.

Dylan’s, 85, appearance alone was a headline moment, reflecting the growing crossover between folk, rock and country audiences at the time. His presence on Cash’s stage underscored Cash’s unique position in music: an artist respected across genres and generations.

But behind the celebratory tone of the broadcast, there was also a sense of loss.

Just weeks before the premiere, Cash had lost longtime collaborator Luther Perkins in a tragic house fire.

Perkins, a founding member of Cash’s Tennessee Three, had been instrumental in shaping the guitarist’s signature "boom-chicka-boom" sound that defined much of his early career.

His absence hung over the show’s launch, even as the performance went forward with the spirit of resilience that often defined Cash’s career.

As the series moved ahead, Bob Wootton stepped in as the new guitarist, eventually becoming a mainstay in Cash’s band for decades to come.

The Johnny Cash Show would go on to run until 1971, becoming one of the most important platforms for country music on television and helping introduce the genre to a broader national audience.

Starbucks just announced that five previously limited-time flavors are remaining as permanent menu options.

On Friday, June 6, the official Starbucks Instagram account shared the exciting news on its grid with a short but impactful declaration.

Alongside close-up clips of drinks featuring the five flavors—lavender, mango, coconut, raspberry, and pistachio—the coffee chain wrote, "and what if I said they’re all here to stay."

In March, Starbucks brought back lavender as part of its spring menu; the flavor was first introduced in March 2024. Similarly, pistachio debuted in January 2023 and has been brought back seasonally, including most recently in January 2026.

Raspberry returned in January 2025 for a limited time after being MIA from Starbucks menus for two years, before coming back again in February 2026. Coconut—a flavor option that has come and gone many times through the years—most recently came back in March 2026. Finally, mango returned to Starbucks in April 2026.

On Instagram, Starbucks fans rejoiced over the five flavors sticking around as part of the menu. One wrote, "COCONUT YEAR ROUND????"

"Lavender all year? 😯🪻," a second echoed, while a third shared, "MANGO IS HERE TO STAY?! YESSSSS."

"As they should. 👏👏," someone else declared.

Another commented, "Raspberry and coconut 😍🙌."

A different Instagram user exclaimed, "Lavender and Mango staying!!!!???? Yasss!!"

Meanwhile, yet another fan replied, "And what if I said I'm jumping for joy?"

However, someone else wondered, "What happened to SIMPLIFYING THE MENU?"

In January 2025, Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol announced plans to reduce 30% of the coffee chain's food and drink offerings by the end of the fiscal year. "By simplifying our menu, we’re helping to create a more intentional, thoughtful experience for our customers — one where every drink is handcrafted with precision and care," the company explained.

Still, Starbucks has introduced several new drinks this year, including the Tropical Butterfly Refresher, as well as the upcoming Iced Blue Coconut Matcha and Blue Coconut Refresher. It also brought back the Iced Horchata Shaken Espresso. Plus, it will soon bring back Unicorn Frappuccino for a limited time, as well as (reportedly) the S'mores Frappuccino.

One of comedy's most iconic roles almost went to a different star.

During a recent interview, Anna Faris asked Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans whether any celebrity ever "desperately wanted to be in a Scary Movie" but got a hard no. Marlon's answer caught her off guard: Melissa Joan Hart, then a teen-TV favorite from Sabrina the Teenage Witch, was originally supposed to play Cindy, the breakout role that made Faris a star.

"Melissa Joan Hart. She was supposed to play Anna's part," Marlon said, as Faris and his brother reacted in disbelief.

How Anna Faris Got the Role

The switch came down to the Wayans' older brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans, who directed the original 2000 film. He pushed for Faris after seeing her audition. "Keenen was like, 'I saw this young lady Anna Faris, and it really feels like that's our Cindy,'" Marlon recalled. Faris went on to become the face of the franchise.

'Scary Movie 6' Breaks a Franchise Record

The throwback comes at a fitting moment. Scary Movie 6 just scared up a franchise-best $56 million opening this weekend, the biggest debut in the series' 26-year history. The Paramount and Miramax release is the first new entry since 2013's Scary Movie 5, this time spoofing recent horror hits like Sinners and The Substance.

Music icons The Beach Boys announced a significant change amid their anniversary tour.

The Pet Sounds anniversary tourwas in celebration of their 11th studio album’s 60th anniversary since its release.

Fronted by original member and co-founder Mike Love, the band is pulling a multi-stop run across North America, bringing their timeless catalog of hits to fans in a series of highly anticipated live performances.

Amid their ongoing tour, the band dropped an unexpected announcement regarding their show in Vienna, Virginia.

In an Instagram post, the venue Filene Center at Wolf Trap confirmed that The Beach Boys’ concert has been postponed and moved to a later date.

Instead of its Sunday, June 7 schedule, the chart-topping band will be hitting the stage on July 23, Thursday.

As for fans and concertgoers who already bought tickets, “all tickets will automatically transfer to the new date,” which means that there's no need to rebook or request a refund.

Although The Beach Boys did not reveal the reason behind the postponement, the band expressed their sincere regret following the sudden change.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and truly appreciate your understanding,” the caption reads.

The Beach Boys’ 60th anniversary concert began the first leg of the tour on March 22, which took place in Orlando with a guest appearance from actor and musician John Stamos.

Currently, the band is touring across the U.K, Europe and North America and will be on the road for months before wrapping up on Sept. 27 in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Charlie Puth has made the difficult decision to cancel one of his tour stops.

The singer-songwriter took to Instagram Stories on Saturday, June 6, to share the news with fans, revealing that his scheduled performance in Orlando, Florida, that same day would no longer go ahead as planned.

“I am so devastated to do this, but I have to cancel tonight’s show,” Puth, 34, wrote. “I’ve been sick for the last few days and am now being instructed to rest or else risk canceling more dates on this tour."

The four-time Grammy nominee stressed that performing remains one of his greatest joys, making the decision all the more heartbreaking.

“Performing for you all each night means everything to me, and you all deserve the best," he continued. "I’m heartbroken, but I physically am unable to perform. Without a voice, I can’t give you guys the show you all deserve. I’m so sorry, this was not an easy decision to make but I hope to see you all soon when I am well again.”

Puth is currently traveling the globe on his Whatever's Clever! Tour, which kicked off in April and is set to wrap on July 30 in Warsaw, Poland, with several U.S. dates still on the schedule.

Unfortunately, Puth isn't the only artist to face unexpected disruptions this month.

Earlier that same day Morgan Wallen canceled the second of his two Pittsburgh shows due to severe weather concerns. “After talking with local officials and my team, there is no choice but to cancel tonight's show due to severe adverse weather conditions expected throughout the rest of the day and night,” he shared on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Rosalía was forced to postpone the Florida leg of her Lux tour because of what venues described as a "family emergency."

“She is sorry to disappoint her fans, but the circumstances have left her with no other choice,” a statement shared by Miami's Kaseya Center read.

Hopefully, healthier days—and fewer postponements—are around the corner.

AubreyPlaza is now recruiting A-listers to deliver her baby.

The actress recently spoke to Entertainment Tonightat the premiere of her latest film, The Accompanist, during the Tribeca Festival in Manhattan.

The film was directed by Zach Woods and stars SusanSarandon, Everly Carganilla, Aubrey Plaza, IliaVolok, JohnRothman, HelenaHoward, and KevynMorrow.

Plaza joked that Sarandon is high on her list of celebrities she’d like on her birth team. Explaining, "I feel like Susan would do a really good home birth.”

“She already asked me on the red carpet if I have a doula,” she said. "She's ready to go.”

The celebrity delivery team doesn’t stop there; she’s also recruiting PattiLuPone and SandraBernhard.

"I've got them all lined up,” she said. “I’ve got all the New York ladies just ready to catch the baby when it comes out.”

The Scott Pilgrim vs. the World actress went public with her pregnancy in early April. This is her first child with partner and fellow actor Christopher Abbott. Plaza spoke to SethMeyerson his late-night show soon after the announcement.

The 41-year-old joked that she may need Meyers to deliver her baby. Adding “That's why I came here tonight.”

When the late-night host responded, “I would rather not do that,” the actress said it needs to be him or HenryWinkler.

Winkler worked with Plaza on Parks and Recreation and even delivered her character’s baby in the sitcom.

“I would choose Henry. Wouldn't you?” Meyers pleaded. “He's had a dress rehearsal. It's very rare to get a dress rehearsal with someone.”

Regardless of the star power behind her birth team, Plaza shared how exciting this new chapter is for her, as it “feels like such a blessing.” Adding, “It’s been a journey the last couple of years.”

Europe, the Swedish rock band behind what is arguably one of the biggest rock hits ever, "The Final Countdown," is coming back with a new album after nine years. The new record, called Come This Madness, is set to be released on Sept. 25, 2026, but Europe has been teasing fans with updates in the lead-up to the big release day.

Alongside the announcement of the new album in April, Europe released the first new single, "One on One." Now, with only a few months left until Come This Madness is here, the band has released another song from the album.

The new track is called "The Cult of Ignorance," and it's written by lead vocalist Joey Tempest and keyboardist Mic Michaeli. The song and music video dropped on June 3, and fans already can't get enough of it.

Fans hyped up "The Cult of Ignorance" in the comments on YouTube, with one calling it a "total banger."

A few standout replies included, "It's 2026 and Europe is still showing the world how real hard rock is done!... Absolute respect to the legends!" and "Europe!!! Still killing it after all these years. I'm so happy for them and excited for this new album. This song ROCKS!!!! Can't stop listening to it. Mind blown!"

In a statement alongside the second single's release, Tempest said, via Noise11, "It’s a straightforward rock anthem with lyrics reflecting the times we live in, written slightly tongue in cheek... It reflects some of the negative tendencies emerging in our world today, though it is written in a slightly light-hearted tone."

While fans haven't gotten to hear any of the other tracks on the album yet, a few of the intriguing titles include "The Angels Must Have Flown," "Nothing Can Follow This," and "Scandinavian Eyes."

Come This Madness will be Europe's first new album since Walk the Earth, which came out in October 2017.

Imagine having a movie named after you.

Being John Malkovich was the perfect title for a story that centered on characters who are able to quite literally "be" the longtime actor, 72, for short bursts at a time.

The acclaimed film was released in the late 1990s — and so was another successful feature that also starred John Malkovich. In fact, Saturday, June 6 marks exactly 29 years since Con Air hit theaters.

The prison action-thriller became a financial success, earning $224 million globally on a $74 million budget. Clearly the mixed reviews — as highlighted by Rotten Tomatoes — didn't hold moviegoers back from flooding the cinemas. Here's the website's synopsis of Con Air:

"Just-paroled army ranger Cameron Poe (Nicolas Cage) is headed back to his wife (Monica Potter), but must fly home aboard a prison transport flight dubbed 'Jailbird' with some of the worst criminals living. Along with Diamond Dog (Ving Rhames) and Baby-O (Mykelti Williamson), genius serial killer Cyrus 'The Virus' Grissom (Malkovich) unleashes a violent escape plot in mid-flight. Secretly working with U.S. Marshal Vince Larkin (John Cusack), Poe tries to foil Grissom's plan."

Late last year, Malkovich actually revealed to Bill Maher on his podcast that he didn't exactly dissect the Con Air script, written by Scott Rosenberg, before hopping onboard.

"I read what I had to read," the Burn After Reading actor said on the December 1, 2025 episode of Club Random of Bill Maher. "Con Air. Convicts on an airplane named after Romantic era poets. That's 500 million, Jerry Bruckheimer producing. Done. Don't really need to read it. I'm not a kind of snob about [stuff like that]."

Malkovich can next be seen in Wild Horse Nine, the new film by Martin McDonagh (The Banshees of Inisherin, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri). The upcoming black comedy film also stars Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, Tom Waits and Parker Posey.

Iconic heavy metal band Machine Head announced a major update amid its North American tour.

Following a successful European run, the “Darkness Within” hitmakers confirmed they would be adding a special guest for their co-headlining tour with Killswitch Engage.

In an Instagram post, vocalist and guitarist Robb Flynn shared the band's latest update from Detroit as they opened the three-month tour.

“We are going to be bringing out Ben Eller on the guitar to do the whole show with us,” he said in the clip, adding, “The other night in Pittsburgh, we brought him out to do the last three songs, but tonight’s going to be the first full show that he does with the band.”

Moreover, Flynn added that they are thrilled to work alongside the guitar influencer and YouTuber, praising his professionalism and dedication despite having only a short time to learn the band's material.

As for Eller, he also thanked Machine Head for the opportunity.

“Pleasure to be aboard, filling the boots of the many mighty players who have come before me!” he wrote in the comments.

The 41-year-old guitarist, also known as “Uncle Ben,” has built a following of more than 537,000 subscribers on YouTube through his popular instructional series, This Is Why You Suck at Guitar.

Meanwhile, Machine Head’s announcement sparked even more excitement among fans, especially those who knew Uncle Ben online.

“D--n Uncle Ben's YouTube videos taught me how to actually maintain Floyd Roses like 12 years ago lol. Now he's ripping on a big ass tour,” one wrote.

“Ben is the GOAT y’all chose wisely,” a fan commented.

“@benellerguitars Congrats brother. You're collecting metal legends like Pokémon cards,” a follower said.

“This is the f—ing coolest. Loudest band I ever saw, and you’re adding the handsome Uncle Ben? Best news,” another echoed.

For one day only, drivers in three major U.S. cities will have the chance to fill up their tanks at a price that feels straight out of another decade.

As part of its Member Month celebration, T-Mobile is offering drivers gas for just $1.99 per gallon at select Shell stations in Los Angeles, Houston, and Chicago, on Tuesday, June 9.

The best part? The deal isn't limited to T-Mobile customers — anyone can take advantage of the savings while supplies last, the company announced.

As gas prices rise to above $6 per gallon at some locations, the one-day promotion is designed to help drivers save at the pump amid fluctuating fuel costs.

The promotion is first-come, first-served, and is part of T-Mobile's 10-year anniversary of T-Mobile Tuesdays.

In 1971, a folk-rock song about marijuana found itself at the center of a growing battle over what Americans could hear on the radio.

Brewer & Shipley's "One Toke Over the Line" was released as a single in March 1971 and quickly became one of the year's most unlikely hits. The song ultimately climbed to No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the duo's only Top 40 hit and turning a backstage joke into a national phenomenon.

The song's origins were surprisingly simple.

According to singer Michael Brewer, he and partner Tom Shipley were preparing to go onstage at a club in Kansas City when Shipley returned from what Brewer jokingly described as "a breath of fresh air" and announced, "Man, I'm one toke over the line."

The phrase made Brewer laugh.

"Just right on the spot, I started singing, 'One toke over the line, sweet Jesus,'" he later recalled in an interview with Rock Cellar Magazine. By the following day, the pair had turned the joke into a song.

Neither musician expected it to become a hit.

In fact, Brewer later said they almost didn't record it. The song only made it onto their 1970 album Tarkio after a well-received performance at Carnegie Hall convinced their record label that it had potential.

The timing, however, could hardly have been worse.

As "One Toke Over the Line" climbed the charts in early 1971, the Federal Communications Commission issued a public notice reminding broadcasters that they were responsible for reviewing lyrics that could be interpreted as promoting illegal drug use. The notice warned that stations had a duty to exercise control over their programming and suggested that failing to do so could raise questions about whether operating a station remained in the public interest.

Many broadcasters got the message.

Rolling Stone reported in April 1971 that multiple Top 40 stations had dropped "One Toke Over the Line" from their playlists after the FCC action. Program directors argued that the song's title was an obvious reference to marijuana and worried about potential consequences.

The controversy only made the song more famous and the song's strangest moment came later that year.

Even as government officials and radio stations were criticizing songs with drug references, "One Toke Over the Line" somehow found its way onto the squeaky-clean Lawrence Welk Show. The program, known for its family-friendly audience and conservative image, featured a performance of the song by singers Gail Farrell and Dick Dale.

After the performance, Welk reportedly described it as a "modern spiritual," apparently unaware that the title referred to marijuana. Brewer later said the contrast perfectly captured the absurdity of the controversy surrounding the song. While some government officials were condemning it as drug-culture propaganda, one of television's most wholesome programs was presenting it to millions of viewers as inspirational entertainment.

Brewer later joked that he and Shipley had unexpectedly landed on President Richard Nixon's enemies list and were publicly criticized by Vice President Spiro Agnew, who condemned songs he viewed as drug-culture propaganda.

"You can't buy that type of publicity," Brewer later said. "Thanks to the people, they said, 'Screw you' and played it anyway."

The public clearly agreed.

Despite the pressure, "One Toke Over the Line" continued its climb up the charts, peaking at No. 10 in the United States and reaching No. 5 in Canada.

More than five decades later, it remains Brewer & Shipley's signature song and one of the most recognizable folk-rock hits of the era.

The song's writers have both passed away fairly recently. Brewer died in December 2024 at the age of 70 and Shipley died in August 2025 at the age of 84. Shipley had previously told It's Psychedelic Magazine that he never could have imagined that a phrase tossed out before a club performance would become a Top 10 hit and one of the defining marijuana songs of the 1970s.

Steve Almaas, the bassist and vocalist of pioneering Minneapolis punk band the Suicide Commandos, has died from complications of reoccurring cancer. He was 69.

The news of his death was shared on the Suicide Commandos’ social media accounts on June 5 in a post that reads: “Our pal Steve passed this afternoon after a long hard battle with cancer. Our hearts go out to Steve's sisters Janet and Judy, Daughter Solveig and TJ, Grandkids Sully and Loa, and Steve's Dear Angel Brandy. Love to all.”

The post also included a black-and-white photo of Almaas performing with the Commandos along with the words: “REST IN PEACE STEVE. STEVE ALMAAS, AUGUST 61956-JUNE 5 2026. WE MOURN THE LOSS OF OUR FRIEND & BANDMATE.”

Though they only released two 7-inch EPs and one album during their initial run from 1975-1980, the trio that also featured guitarist/vocalist Chris Osgood and drummer Dave Ahl, was hugely influential, paving the way for future acclaimed Twin City rockers such as the Replacements, Hüsker Dü, and Soul Asylum.

After the band split, Almaas relocated to New York where he formed the Crackers, and worked with such indie rock stalwarts as Richard Barone of the Bongos and Mitch Easter, who would later produce R.E.M. and form Let’s Active. Initially, Almaas recorded a four-track EP titled Beat Rodeo with help from Barone and Easter. Later he formed a band called Beat Rodeo, that landed a deal with IRS Records, the home of R.E.M. and the Go-Go’s, after first signing with a German label.

Almaas went on to release six solo albums and played with the reformed Suicide Commandos, who released Time Bomb, their first album in 38 years in 2017.

Aside from continuing his music career, Almaas also worked as a schoolteacher, prior to his death at his home in Beacon, New York.

Fans on Facebook offered condolences on the Suicide Commandos’ Facebook account.

“Steve (and the Commandos, among others in the Mpls scene) opened my eyes and ears to so much new music. Sad news. RIP,” wrote one fan.

Another added, “I’m sorry to hear this. The Commandos were a huge part of my youth. RIP and prayers for his family.”

The internet is divided over a viral beer-based cocktail called a "Beericano," and they can't decide if it's "disgusting" or "brilliant!"

"The Beericano is an aperitif for those who just can't drink another Aperol spritz," wrote Bon Appetit next to their take on the summer beverage on Instagram on June 6. They explained that the drink is "based on the Americano Perfecto by Damon Boelte (itself a riff on the Americano)," and it's made from a combo of "a sweet vermouth, a red bitter, and crisp beer."

Their version includes a 1:1:2 ratio of sweet vermouth, Campari, and a lager or pilsner. They poured it in an ice-filled glass and topped it off with a fresh orange wedge.

Fans had extremely mixed reactions to the cocktail. Some were horrified, like one who wrote, "completely ludicrous, what are we even doing?" and another curious commenter who agreed, "This looks terrible. I need to try it."

Others were immediately on board, with one writing, "Sign me the fug up" and another adding, "Intriguing!" A third said, "Holy hell, I neeeed it!"

Many others pointed out that the drink is extremely similar to the "Spaghett," which is often considered a dive bar version of an Aperol Spritz. That version was created in 2016 by a bartender at Wet City Brewery in Baltimore, Maryland, and is made by adding an ounce of Aperol and a squeeze of lemon or lime juice to a bottle of Miller High Life. While some felt the Beericano was "an overly complicated take on Spaghett," others thought it was more of a "glow-up."

Considering the ingredient list is simple, cheap, and includes items you probably already have it home, it may be worth a try!

Cherie DeVaux just made history as the first female trainer to win two out of three Triple Crown races. Three-year-old colt Golden Tempo placed first in the 152nd Kentucky Derby and pulled out a second win on Saturday in Saratoga Springs at the 158th Belmont Stakes. 

While DeVaux is, as of this year, the only female to train a Kentucky Derby winner, she isn’t the only woman to make history at the Saratoga Race Course. That title goes to Jena Antonucci, whose horse Archangelo took first place in 2023. But Cherie is the only woman to have two Triple Crown wins under her belt.

Why didn’t Cherie DeVaux win all three Triple Crown events?

Golden Tempo seems to have what it takes. But the horse only won two of the three events. So why didn’t DeVaux’s colt sweep the Triple Crown?

Following the history-making Kentucky Derby win, DeVaux (and the horse’s owners) made the decision to keep Golden Tempo out of the Preakness Stakes. Even though he’s clearly in top form, the trainer didn’t want to push the winner. 

The reactions to her decision were mixed. DeVaux later told Fox News Digital, “I understand that fans of the sport or fans of the Triple Crown are disappointed, but the horse is not a machine.” She continued, “I have to advocate as the trainer to the owners or the clients, and we had a conversation; it wasn’t my decision. It was a decision we made as a group, and I’m sorry if people don’t understand what goes into it.” 

DeVaux added, “We are not committing to this, and they’re horses, like they’re animals, and they’re not just a car you can go out and run them in two weeks. That’s not how it works, and unfortunately, if you’re not going to understand, then I can’t help you.”

Of course, DeVaux is always in the horse’s corner, praising the winner and his jockey, Jose Ortiz, in a post-race interview with Fox Sports (after the historic second win): “Golden Tempo is amazing, Jose is amazing.” The trainer also added, "It’s so meaningful because the town gets to have this. And celebrate it along with all of us." “

Cherie also explained, "I think he needs to do this to kind of show that he was meant to win the Derby and that he is a horse that belongs in the conversation of being one of the top three-year-olds.”
