Eva Longoria, 51, Proves the Teenie Weenie Black Bikini Has No Age Limit

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 3:00pm

Eva Longoria is on fire.

Not only is the actress and entrepreneur killing it on the small screen with CNN’s Searching For series and the upcoming Netflix comedy she's directing starring Kim Kardashian, The Fifth Wheel, but the UnveliEVAble Entertainment founder was just spotted on a beach day rocking a barely-there suit, proving teenie weenie bikinis have absolutely no age limit.

Yesterday, April 11, a user on X shared photos of Longoria, 51. Wearing a black thong string bikini, the superstar is seen walking on the beach and cooling off in the water. Her dark hair is pulled back into a low middle-part ponytail, and her bare-faced beauty look showcases a natural glow.

The photos are so stunning, we simply had to share. Which is what a lot of people were thinking, too, as the images now have nearly 6 million views and more than 700 shares.

“Eva Longoria is hot,” the caption reads, followed by three fire emojis.

Of course, fans then did what they do, with one commenting, “God took His time with that one.” Another wrote, “No debate there, Eva Longoria has been aging like fine wine for years. Timeless.” And yet another said, “Eva Longoria still serving straight  after all these years.”

The three-time Screen Actors Guild winner is no stranger to a bikini post. Over on her own Instagram, she often posts pics featuring her bikini body, as well as insights into her life as an award-winning actress, dedicated mom, and overall baddie.

In March, Longoria got candid with AARP about aging, sharing, "I always ask myself what defines success for me," she said. “As I get older, it’s not some superficial thing. I’m at a point where I don’t want to waste my days. We only have so many years left. How are you going to spend them? What are you going to do in this moment? That focus makes getting older exciting.”

Who doesn’t love nostalgiacore? There’s just something so charming about vintage pieces. While it’s fun and thrilling sifting through antique store piles, it’s oftentimes pretty exhausting and time consuming. Plus, those vintage finds can sometimes cost a pretty penny. If you’ve been trying to get an old-timey piece into your hands but don’t have the energy for scouting antique stores, we found something that’ll save you both time and money — this Victrola Willow Retro Wood Bluetooth Radio Speaker at Amazon.

It has that vintage aesthetic that people would shell out money for, but you can score it on sale for less than $40. This vintage-inspired radio normally retails for $80, but it’s now marked down to just $38 in a walnut finish. It’s also available in an espresso and natural finish, which are on sale for $40 and $75, respectively.

Oozing with retro charm, this radio speaker looks just like something you would find at an antique store, transporting you back to the ‘40s and ‘50s. This radio features a classic wooden frame and a woven speaker grill. The frame has an exposed woodgrain finish that gives it a rustic feel, also lending itself to the farmhouse aesthetic. Truly vintage-inspired, this piece doesn’t have a digital display or buttons. Instead, it’s equipped with an analog radio dial and gold knobs that you use to control everything.

However, this old-timey piece has a modern twist. It has Bluetooth so you can wirelessly connect your phone, tablet, or laptop to listen to your favorite tunes, shows, and podcasts. Many reviewers raved about the clear sound output, and some noted that it also has a vintage effect. While many shoppers said that they use this speaker to listen to everything from jazz to classical music, one mentioned that they listen to audiobooks with this speaker because they love the retro sound effect it adds.

This speaker is also equipped with AM/FM radio. You can surf the stations using the knob that sits in the center of the radio dial. The bottom right of the speaker features three knobs. One controls the volume and doubles as the power button, and the other is designed to adjust the bass and treble. You can use the third knob to switch between Bluetooth, FM radio, and AM radio.

Best-Selling Author’s Novel Named ‘Shocking Thriller’ Ahead of 2026 Book Release

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 2:25pm

A new thriller from bestselling author Kimberly McCreight is already capturing attention months before its release.

Someone Else's Husband is already earning a reputation as a nail-biting thriller ahead of its June 2026 debut, with early praise pointing to a story packed with emotional tension, betrayal and unexpected twists.

The novel follows a Mount Kilimanjaro expedition that spirals into something far more dangerous than anyone anticipated. What begins as a trip among longtime friends soon leads to an affair, a love triangle and ultimately, a death. When it is finally time to descend, there's one less group-member than when they started, plus a whole lot more.

The story then shifts to New York City, where the fallout intensifies. Two weeks later, one of the women at the center of the drama is found dead in a crime scene covered in blood with suspicion falling on one of the men from the trip. What follows is a race to uncover the truth, as the narrative digs into love, loyalty and the secrets people keep.

The inspiration for the novel is deeply personal. McCreight revealed, "Someone Else's Husband was born when I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro following the end of my 20-year marriage, and realized that I was no longer 'the wife' in the eyes of the world." That experience, arriving to find herself the only woman on an expedition surrounded by married men, helped shape the story's emotional core.

While the book is packed with suspense, the author says it's about more than just twists. "While I hope people stay up too late puzzling through the emotional suspense at the heart of the book, for me, it's ultimately a story about love and loss, letting go of the past and finding freedom in the truth of who you are."

Early praise has been strong. Author Amity Gaige called the novel "a stunner," adding, "I was seduced by each character and knocked sideways by each betrayal."

"McCreight's latest explores motherhood in all its complexities—wrapped up in a breathless, shocking thriller I could not put down," said bestselling author Jodi Picoult.

With its blend of psychological tension and emotional depth, Someone Else's Husband is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about thrillers of 2026.

Two Best Friends, One Alter Ego: Why Two Powerhouse Authors Teamed Up to Become 'Evelyn Clarke'

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 2:10pm

The publishing world is no stranger to the pseudonym. From the Brontë sisters to Stephen King’s stint as Richard Bachman, authors have long worn masks to explore new genres or escape the weight of their own reputations. But the arrival of 'Evelyn Clarke' offers a rare twist. She is not one person, but a composite character inhabited by two of the industry’s most formidable talents.

V.E. Schwab, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, is a titan of high-concept fantasy. Cat Clarke is an award-winning veteran of suspense. On paper, their collaboration on the new mystery The Ending Writes Itselfseems like a calculated power move. In reality, it began as a desperate vent session over day-old pastries in a Scottish kitchen.

In a recent interview with NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday, the duo pulled back the curtain on this literary marriage. The project started when Schwab approached Clarke with an idea for a 'weird thriller' about seven midlist writers trapped on a private Scottish island to finish the final manuscript of a dead mega-bestseller.

The partnership required both women to break long-standing professional vows. 'I had left publishing in 2018, swearing never to write another book again,' Clarke told NPR. Schwab added, 'I had sworn that I would never, ever co-write a novel' and that she would never write anything without magic in it.

Related: 1986 Horror Novel Ranked No. 1 'Scariest Stephen King Book' by Goodreads

What makes Evelyn Clarke unique is the refusal to 'divide and conquer' the workload. Most co-authors split chapters by point of view, but Schwab and Clarke describe their process as building and decorating a house together. 'We made a blueprint, and then we went in room by room, and we put down the structure, the floor, the walls,' Schwab explained. 'One of us would decorate, and then the other one would come in and be like, I don't like those curtains and then adjust it, and we would adjust over the top of each other until we were both happy with the scene.'

For the authors, Evelyn is more than a marketing too. 'It began as a kind of shelter for us to take,' Schwab told NPR, noting that the persona is 'incredibly liberating because it's Evelyn spilling the beans, not us.' Clarke agreed, noting that the distance helps them manage the vulnerability of the industry: 'If people hate the book, that's not us... it doesn't feel quite so personal.'

As for the book’s central mystery, Schwab, a writer who notoriously starts every project by writing the ending first, promises a 'magic act' structure. 'A good magician will let you see three tricks, and he'll let you see how the first two work so that you're convinced it isn't real,' Schwab said. 'And then you'll never figure out how the third one works.'

Sam Burns, Wife Caroline Shared Personal News Ahead of Masters Weekend

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 2:04pm

Sam Burns and his wife Caroline Burns (née Campbell) have some big news to share. The couple is expecting their second child together. The exciting news came ahead of Masters weekend in Augusta.

"[Sam] has learned a lot from Scottie [Scheffler], especially in practice rounds,” Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis said on the April 9 episode of Live From the Masters. “They kind of mimic each others’ lives. Scottie, this last month, he and his wife Meredith, had their second child, a boy," Lewis continued, adding, "Caroline, Sam Burns’ wife, well, they’re about to have their second child as well, and they already have a boy. His name is Bear. We will find out in July when the baby is born."

View this post on Instagram

Both Sam and his wife grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, and started dating in college.

“We grew up in the same hometown but went to different schools and so we didn’t start dating until college,” Caroline previously told WJCL. "But we really [have] known each other forever and… I was his first valentine when we were five years old. So, that’s our sweet story."

And then after that, she wanted nothing to do with me until about high school," Sam joked in response.

Sam popped the question during the RBC Heritage tournament at Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton, South Carolina, in April 2019. Eight months later, the lovebirds exchanged vows at the same place. Now, their son Bear, who was born in 2024, will be a big brother in just a couple of months.

In fact, McIlroy filed for divorce from Stoll, citing that their union was "irretrievably broken" in the court documents. About a month later, however, the two reconciled.

"There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate," McIlroy told The Guardian in one of his most candid interviews ever. "Responding to each rumor is a fool’s game. Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning."

In 2025, McIlroy was featured on the Netflix series Full Swing. In one of his interviews, he briefly mentioned his personal life.

“There’s parts of my life that I like to keep as private as possible," he said, adding, "Unfortunately, in this line of work, that isn’t always possible."

Stoll is also extremely private. While she may be front and center watching McIlroy play, she keeps a low profile when it comes to the media—even her Instagram account is private.

If this year's Masters was any indication of how things are going for the golf pro, however, he's in a great place—both on and off the course.

Here’s Exactly What Happens to Your Blood Pressure When You Eat Avocados

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 1:25pm

Remember when avocado toast was the trendiest food you could order at brunch? Avocado mania peaked in the 2010s, when avocado toast became an Instagrammable symbol of wellness. Even entire restaurants dedicated to the fruit (yep, fruit) opened, such as Avocaderia in Brooklyn (now Avo, and is still open) and The Avocado House in Chino, California (also, still open).

The avocado craze may have died down, but something that will always remain the same is the nutritional benefits. Eating avocado regularly has myriad health perks, including supporting eye health, skin health and the immune system.

Avocado’s impact on heart health is a little less black and white. Unlike other fruits and vegetables, avocados are high in fat, and if one of your health goals is keeping your blood pressure in check, you have probably been told to minimize fatty foods.

Does this mean avocado is off the table if you want your diet to support your heart? We talked to a cardiovascular dietitian to set the record straight when it comes to avocado and heart health, including how it impacts blood pressure both immediately after eating as well as long-term, when eaten regularly.

How Eating Avocado Impacts Blood Pressure

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly half of U.S. adults have high blood pressure. What makes high blood pressure so dangerous is that it doubles the risk of death from stroke or heart disease. Unfortunately, high blood pressure doesn’t have any symptoms, which is why it’s often called a “silent killer.” The only way to know if you have high blood pressure is to check it through blood pressure monitoring or have it checked by your healthcare provider.

Whether you already have high blood pressure or want to prevent it, everyone can benefit from eating in a way that supports blood pressure. This includes minimizing consumption of salty foods and eating foods high in antioxidants, fiber and potassium. These are three nutrients avocados has and Margaret Junker, RDN, CDCES, a cardiovascular dietitian at UC Davis Health, says it makes it a great food for supporting blood pressure, as well as heart health overall.

Related: The One Habit That Can Lower Blood Pressure Overnight, According to a Cardiologist

“Avocados are considered heart-healthy. It is unprocessed and low in saturated fat and cholesterol,” she says. Unlike saturated fats found in foods like bacon, butter and ice cream, Junker explains that avocados are rich in unsaturated fats, which are scientifically shown to lower blood pressure.

Junker says that eating avocado does not raise blood pressure immediately after eating it. In fact, it does the reverse, helping to keep blood pressure at a healthy level and preventing an increase. She explains that eating avocado regularly also supports healthy blood pressure long-term. “Avocado can be a regular part of a plant-forward diet, supporting blood pressure goals and supporting a heart-healthy lifestyle long-term,” she says.

Scientific research backs this up. In one study of Mexican women, those who ate five or more servings of avocado a week experienced a 17% reduction in high blood pressure compared to those who didn’t eat avocado regularly.

Related: 'I'm a Cardiologist—Here's How To Know When You Should Go on Blood Pressure Medication

Other Avocado Benefits

One nutrient avocados have in abundance that benefits the entire body is fiber. Junker says that this is another way that eating avocados regularly benefits the heart. “High fiber foods are known to reduce cardiovascular risk and improve cardiometabolic health. This may be due to the high vitamin and mineral content of these foods, the way they support gut health or the fact that most foods high in fiber are generally low in added sugar and other processed food ingredients,” she notes.

A 2025 scientific study published in Nutrients highlights the benefits of a high-fiber diet, saying that it reduces inflammation, helps with weight management and lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Did you catch that Junker pointed out that the fiber in avocado supports gut health? Research shows that eating avocado regularly increases the amount of good bacteria in the gut. Considering that gut health impacts everything (including immunity and brain health), this is a major benefit.

Besides fiber, Junker says that avocados are high in potassium, another reason why it supports heart health. Potassium is important for regulating heartbeats. As for the unsaturated fats that Junker explained earlier help that support blood pressure, this nutrient is also important for brain health, helping reduce inflammation in the brain and supporting memory and cognition.

As you can see, eating avocado regularly is a great way to benefit your entire body—especially your heart—and can help keep blood pressure levels from rising. Maybe it’s time for an avocado toast comeback!

1983 Film Ranked Among Best Movies of All Time

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 1:24pm

When Star Wars: Return of the Jedi hit theaters in 1983, it didn’t just cap off the original Star Wars trilogy—it dominated the box office, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year and cementing its place in cinematic history. Directed by Richard Marquand and built on the expansive universe created by George Lucas, the film delivered a powerful mix of action, emotion, and unforgettable moments, helping solidify its reputation as one of the greatest movies of all time.

The film starred Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, and Carrie Fisher as the iconic Princess Leia. According to Box Office Mojo, the film had a budget of $32.5 million and was a complete box office smash, grossing $252 million domestically.

Critics had mixed reviews on the film, despite its success. In fact, Return of the Jedi—though it's widely considered one of the best movies of all time—received a Rotten Tomatoes score of 83%.

"It's everything it should be. No, it's more. It's everything it could be," wrote Stephen Hunter of The Baltimore Sun.

"Return of the Jedi, the final act of George Lucas' first Star Wars trilogy, is the best one yet," said the Boston Globe's Michael Blowen.

The movie is still a topic of discussion on various message boards and social media platforms, such as Reddit, where fans continue to debate where it falls in the Star Wars ranking—and whether it truly deserves a spot among the very best in the saga.

Return of the Jedi will celebrate its 43rd anniversary on May 25. For many Warsies, this means its time for a full watch.

If there was ever any doubt about Dolly Parton's place in the hearts of Americans, a new poll has put that debate to rest once and for all.

According to a national survey of American adults conducted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell, the 80-year-old country music legend is the most popular public figure in the United States today… by a landslide.

For some context, Taylor Swiftcomes in with a modest +3, while Barack Obamalands at +14. Volodymyr Zelenskyy isn't far behind Obama at +13.

And on the other end of the spectrum, Donald Trumpscores a -18, sandwiched between Elon Muskat -16 and Joe Biden at -19. The lowest score goes to Vladimir Putin at -65.

Parton recently made her first major public appearance in months, taking the stage at Dollywood to deliver the keynote speech celebrating the theme park's 41st season. The beloved singer used the occasion to address her health, along with a wave of unusual rumors regarding her relationship status that had been swirling online. "I did not marry Sylvester Stallone, did you see that one? And I'm not dating anybody," she told the crowd with a laugh. "I'm not married. I don't think I'll ever be married but once."

Parton was married to Carl Deanfor 58 years before his passing in March 2025. “I think Carl Dean's waiting for me on the other side," she said in her speech, joking that if she showed up at the pearly gates with someone new, "he would not like that."

And as for her health, she spoke about the reason behind postponing several appearances. "I've had a few little health issues, and we're taking good care of them," she explained, adding that grief had also played a role. "I just got myself kind of where I needed to build myself back up spiritually, emotionally, and physically. But all is good. It didn't slow me down."

Brian Krause Pays Tribute to Shannen Doherty Twenty Years After 'Charmed' Finale: 'She Was Such a Force'

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 1:05pm

Brian Krause is remembering his late Charmed co-star Shannen Doherty as two decades have passed since the series finale.

In an exclusive interview withPeople, Krause recalled when he first learned Doherty would involved in the series.

“Anything Shannen was going to do was probably going to be good," he said. At the time, Doherty had been starring in executive producer Aaron Spelling's other series Beverly Hills 90210.

Krause currently cohosts a Charmed rewatch podcast, House of Halliwell, with Holly Marie Combs and Drew Fuller. Krause spoke to People what it has been like to revisit the series after Doherty's death in 2024.

“It's been difficult to watch [the replacement of Doherty], especially with her passing and how close Holly and her were,” Krause said of Doherty, who was replaced by Rose McGowan after the show's third season.

He continued, “I'm not going to speak for Holly, but I know it's difficult that on the show she mourns her sister and in life she is. So we've just tried to be there for her and the fans have.

Krause added of Doherty, "Shannen was beloved, for sure, and she's missed. She was such a force."

Krause also praised Doherty for always being connected and engaged with fans of Charmed.

“That was the one thing I saw with Shannen the last few years and how engaged she was with the fans and how giving,” he said. “It was really impressive. And it's kind of, you follow suit, and Holly does the same, and there's no ego there. We literally try and connect with every person that comes to the table.”

Doherty, who would have been 55 on Sunday, April 12, died from breast cancer in 2024.

Cameron Young’s Wife Kelsey Dalition Is a Big Part of His Success

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 1:02pm

Cameron Young went into Sunday's tee off at the top of The Masters leaderboard. As he continues to shine on golf's biggest stage, he’s had a steady presence behind the scenes in his wife, Kelsey Dalition. The two, who have known each other since childhood, built their relationship long before the spotlight, and, as Young’s career has taken off—from PGA Tour breakthrough moments to serious contention at The Masters—Dalition has remained a constant, helping keep life grounded as they raise their growing family together.

Young is coming off a huge win, finishing The Players Championship in first place. After securing the W, Young spoke to the media about the tournament and about his success in the sport.

"None of this is possible without my wife Kelsey and my family,” he told the Golf Channel last month. "She works incredibly hard on all of our behalf. I mean, it’s constant. They travel all the time, so she holds up that part of it at home, and does it all on my behalf, so I can go do my job and chase my dreams."

Kelsey Dalition, wife of Cameron Young of the United States, stands with their children Henry, John and Vivienne on the fourth hole during the Par Three Contest prior to the 2026 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club on April 08, 2026 in Augusta, Georgia.

Young and Dalition tied the knot in March 2021 and have three children together; sons Henry and John and a daughter named Vivienne.

Although Dalition is very supportive of her husband's career, she is notoriously private. However, she has always been there for her Young, even offering him some advice when it comes to his appearance. In 2023, for example, Dalition encouraged Young to shave his beard.

"Honestly, my wife just kind of said, why don't you shave. It wasn't like ... I don't think I looked terrible. I don't know," Young said at the time, according to Golf Digest. “Yeah, I haven't been clean-shaven probably since our first son was born.”

Dalition, Henry, John, and Vivienne will be cheering Young on as he leaves it all at Augusta today.

1943 Hit Classic Film Ranked Among 'Best Movies of All Time'

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 12:52pm

More than eight decades after its release, Casablanca has earned its place among the greatest films ever made, and Rotten Tomatoes just made it official.

The 1943 film, which was directed by Michael Curtiz, currently sits no. 3 on the outlets list of 300 Best Movies of All Time. Casablanca is a fast-paced, emotionally charged romance set against the tumultuous backdrop of World War II. The film follows Rick Blaine, a cynical American expatriate played by Humphrey Bogart, who runs a nightclub in Casablanca, Morocco, and is suddenly reunited with his former lover Ilsa, played by Ingrid Bergman. The story is one of love, sacrifice, and moral courage.

Production of the film was chaotic. Filming began with only the first half of the script, shot in sequence—something very rarely done—with almost daily script changes, and no one, including the actors, director, and writers, knew how the story would end.

But all that chaos paid off. At the 16th Academy Awards on March 2, 1944, Casablanca took home the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Director for Curtiz, and Best Adapted Screenplay. In total, the film was nominated for eight Academy Awards. Casablanca was also added to the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 1989, one of the first 25 films included in the Registry's inaugural year.

The film featured a number of now-iconic quotes, including "Here's looking at you, kid," "Round up the usual suspects," and "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine."Many people still quote them today without even knowing where they came from.

Now, more than 80 years later, Casablanca remains a staple in movie and cinema history, only falling behind The Godfather(1972) and Seven Samurai (1954) on RT’s list.

The beloved actress began playing Lucy in 1986. Lucy arrived in Port Charles with the sass, style, charisma, and selfishness that make fans love the character.

Even though Herring took breaks from the ABC soap, she always went back home. The first time Herring left was after six years, when she hopped over to Days of Our Livesto play Lisanne Gardner in 1992 and worked with her husband, the late Wayne Northrop.

Herring wasn’t there very long because Lisanne was never really developed. In fact, she asked to be let out of her contract early, and the powers that be agreed.

This led the actress to return to General Hospital, where she stayed until 1997, before leaving to take Lucy to the General Hospital spin-off, Port Charles. When the latter was canceled in 2003, Herring briefly returned to General Hospital before departing again in 2004.

During her time away, Herring focused on family life with Northrop on their farm and raising their boys, Hank and Grady Northrop.

In 2009, Herring returned to acting as Audrey Coleman on As the World Turns. The CBS soap was canceled in 2010. Herring eventually returned to General Hospital again in 2012, where Lucy has stayed a regular fixture on the canvas, even if she’s not always at the forefront of the show.

Congrats to Lynn Herring on 40 years of playing the beloved fan favorite Lucy on the hit ABC soap.

Why Sabrina Carpenter Is Apologizing for a Moment at Her Coachella Set

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 12:25pm

Sabrina Carpenter took the Coachella stage on April 10, closing out the first night of the festival with songs like “Manchild” and “House Tour.” But the next day, Carpenter took to social media to apologize for a moment of misunderstanding during her set.

After hearing a Zaghrouta cheer from a fan, which she mistook for a yodel, she said from the stage, “Is that what you're doing? I don't like it.”

The fan yelled back, “It’s my culture.”

“That’s your culture, is yodeling?” Carpenter responded. When the fan explained that it’s a call of celebration, Carpenter said, “Is this Burning Man? What’s going on? This is weird.”

USA Today explained that this isn’t the first time a Zaghrouta cheer has been misunderstood. When Shakira performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2020, many news outlets published articles explaining the significance of the sound.

A zaghrouta cheer is “the Arab way to express happy emotions,” according to ArabAmerica.com. The article explains that it’s best described in English as ululation, and is a “form of a long, wavering, high-pitched vocal sound representing trills of joy.”

Carpenter later offered an apology, posting on X, “my apologies, i didn’t see this person with my eyes and couldn’t hear clearly."

“my reaction was pure confusion, sarcasm and not ill intended. could have handled it better! now i know what a Zaghrouta is! I welcome all cheers and yodels from here on out.”

my apologies i didn’t see this person with my eyes and couldn’t hear clearly. my reaction was pure confusion, sarcasm and not ill intended. could have handled it better! now i know what a Zaghrouta is!
I welcome all cheers and yodels from here on out https://t.co/f3KuT8sggH

— Sabrina Carpenter (@SabrinaAnnLynn) April 11, 2026

Carpenter’s response has been met with mixed reactions from fans.

“The 'distain' on your face was loud and clear,” one user commented on her X post. “Don't act like it was just confusion. Our culture is beautiful and loud, if you can’t handle it with respect, don't pretend to care now just for PR.”

Another said that Carpenter’s reaction was xenophobic.

“sabrina carpenter mocking a zaghrouta as ‘yodeling’ after being educated on its culture is so nasty,” a user posted on X. “being uncultured and proud is actually a disease. the mean girl act isn’t cute anymore, it’s just xenophobic. she’s done.”

However, a Carpenter fan account accepted the apology without hesitation.

thank you so much for apologizing and i will be looking foward to your new music,” the fan commented.

Carpenter’s Coachella set marked her first time headlining the festival, and beyond the controversy, the set itself was largely praised. Her performance included celebrity cameos, from Will Ferrell to Samuel L. Jackson. Her performance of “Espresso” can be seen here:

9 Common Phrases That Could Be Secretly Harming Your Friendships, Etiquette Experts Warn

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 12:16pm

With your closest friends, you may feel like you can share anything. But the closer you are with someone, the more you sort of stop filtering what you say—and the easier it can be to unintentionally hurt your friends' feelings. There are actually several common phrases that can harm your friendships if you're not careful.

Parade consulted two etiquette experts on the topic: Thomas P. Farley—also known as "Mister Manners," a New York-based etiquette expert and speaker—and August Abbott, a certified etiquette consultant for JustAnswer.

Farley says it's easier than ever to unintentionally upset someone thanks to the nature of communication today.

"With so much of modern conversation being done over text and email, the opportunities for misunderstanding are even greater," he says. "Without the supportive facial expressions and vocal tones that can cushion even a difficult message, bare words on a screen or a page can hurt in ways that were truly never intended."

While phone and video calls or in-person conversations can help with some of the potential for misunderstandings, even those types of conversations can lead to hurt feelings if you accidentally say things a certain way. To avoid those issues, there are some common phrases to nix from your vocabulary if you want your friendships to stay strong.

Why Words Matter in Friendships

PhotoAlto/Frederic Cirou/Getty Images

"Words can wound," says Farley. "We may feel nothing was intended by our language choice or that our friends are merely being too sensitive, [but] it's vital we choose our phrasing carefully, particularly when engaging in a challenging conversation."

The etiquette expert says that he would even "be careful with sarcasm and jokes made at someone else's expense." He shares that some friendships can tolerate this, but "if the meaning is taken differently from what we intend, the result may be offense and insult."

"Even a friend who laughs when we make a joke at their expense may have a tipping point," he notes.

Abbott says you also don't always know everything about your friends' pasts and the way they may take certain things you say.

"It’s easy to hit... [past traumas or href="https://parade.com/living/traits-of-adults-with-unresolved-childhood-trauma-according-to-psychologist" target="_blank"] triggers by using certain language, and you may not even realize it," she tells Parade. "If you’re really paying attention, you might notice this response whenever you bring that subject up, and that’s your cue to back off for now."

Related: Making New Friends as an Adult Isn’t Easy, but Luckily, We Have 102 Expert-Backed Ways To Do Just That

9 Common Phrases That Could Be Secretly Harming Your Friendships, According to Etiquette Experts1. "You're being too sensitive"

If you find yourself saying this, Farley shares, "Clearly, there is already friction in this conversation. Now, the respondent is throwing fuel on the fire by criticizing the other person's reaction and feelings."

2. "You always..."

"If you’re not completing this sentence with a sincere compliment, don’t say it," states Abbott.

She cites negative examples like, "You always overreact," "You always go to these dark places" or "You always think you're sick." Pointing things out in this accusatory way isn't necessarily helpful.

"Whenever you find yourself about to start a sentence with 'you always,' I suggest you take a beat and think it through," she adds.

Related: 12 of the Best 'I Statements' To Use in Arguments, According to Psychologists

3. "If you want my opinion..."

Assuming that someone wants to hear your opinion isn't always the way to go.

"If we did, we would likely have asked for it," notes Farley.

Related: 50 Etiquette Rules to Live By—All Approved by Experts

4. "I don’t know what you want from me"

Abbott says this phrase "is especially hurtful since you’re not being part of any solution," and instead, you're adding "one more burden: to figure out how to explain what they need from you."

5. "Does that make sense?"

You may be trying to achieve clarity in your conversation, but Farley says this is actually just "implying the listener doesn't have the intellectual capacity to process what you've said."

6. "I’ll run this by..."

"If someone else’s opinion or advice is going to be garnered, then your friend needs to not only want it, but to be there to control the narrative and hear others’ advice firsthand," Abbott says.

Otherwise, Abbott shares that running something by your family, partner, the friend group, etc., can "feel like betrayal."

7. "No, you're wrong"

"This allows zero room for dialogue," says Farley. "No display of open-mindedness to hear the other person's rationale, and therefore, no chance to find common ground."

8. "You should have done that..."

"Who are you to say so?" says Abbott about the word "should," which she calls "useless."

"[It] only make[s] others feel worse than they do, because no one knows where the keys to the time machine are, so there’s no going back," she shares.

9. "I'm here for you"

On the surface, this seems like a good thing—but only if you back it up.

"Saying, 'I’m here for you' is a car without gas on a busy highway," Abbott tells Parade. "Actually doing something, figuring it out on your own and just following through... It’s an effort and that means everything." She adds, "This is your friend, right? Then you know what they might need or want... instead of asking what you can do for them in times of need, use everything you know about them to try to just do."

How To Show Up as a Good Friend With Your Words

Farley says that being a good friend is often about listening.

"The less we talk and the more we listen, the less chance we have to say something we will later come to regret," he says. "When our turn to speak arrives, rather than having interrupted, we can begin with a phrase such as, 'I'm glad you shared that, because I wouldn't have known that's how you were feeling. So what I'm hearing is...' [then follow with] a rephrasing of the other person's statement."

Abbott adds that it's also important to "say what you mean and mean what you say." This often requires "self-control to think before you speak," she explains, but she thinks "your word is the most valuable thing you own" and therefore it's worth choosing those words carefully.
