Iconic '90s Rock Band Involved in First-Ever Announcement

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 10:02pm

A major announcement from The Cure is drawing attention ahead of this year’s Record Store Day and it’s not just about music

The legendary band revealed that two of their most celebrated collections will be released for the first time on 2LP silver bio vinyl, with proceeds from the sale supporting charity.

In a post shared by Universal Music Recordings on Instagram, fans were invited to celebrate the group’s legacy with Greatest Hits and Acoustic Hits. Frontman Robert Smith has newly remastered both collections and will feature some of the band’s most beloved tracks.

The announcement stands out as a first for the band: the release will be pressed on environmentally conscious silver bio vinyl. Even more notable, £1 from every sale will go directly to War Child, a group that supports children affected by war.

The limited-edition release will be available starting Saturday, exclusively through independent record stores.

The move to bio vinyl marks a significant moment for The Cure, a band known for shaping alternative rock and gothic-inspired music since their formation in 1978. While they have released multiple albums and compilations over decades, this is the first time their music will be issued in this eco-friendly format.

The collections themselves highlight the group’s wide musical range. Tracks like “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Friday I’m In Love” remain fan favorites, representing different eras of the band’s sound, from post-punk roots to mainstream success in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Led by Robert Smith, whose signature look includes dark eyeliner and tousled black hair, the band created a unique identity that shaped alternative rock for decades.

Their 1992 album Wish introduced “Friday I’m In Love,” one of their biggest hits, which helped solidify their global appeal. Over the years, The Cure has sold more than 30 million records worldwide and earned a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.

In 2024, the band released Songs of a Lost World, their first studio album in 16 years, which earned critical praise and major awards, including Grammy wins in 2026.

For fans and collectors, the release offers more than just music, it’s a chance to own a piece of history that also gives back.

Rice Krispies Treats Debuts A Brand-New Confetti Cake Flavor That Fans Have Spent Years Hoping to Try

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 10:00pm

To this day, it's hard to think of a treat more universally well-known than Kellogg's classic Rice Krispies Treats.

The ultimate combination of gooey marshmallow and sweetened crispy rice pieces, Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats have remained a staple in grocery stores the world over for their reliably delicious flavor.

While we're always partial to the original recipe boasted by Kellogg's, the brand has just released what might very well take the cake for the single most exciting Rice Krispies Treats product yet.

According to Allrecipes, Rice Krispies Treats is officially rolling out a brand-new Confetti Cake version of their beloved snacks, giving shoppers plenty of reason to celebrate this coming spring season.

As the name is sure to suggest, Rice Krispies Treats' new Confetti Cake flavor combines the signature ingredients of a Rice Krispies Treat with the eye-catching design of a confetti cake, right down to the vibrant sprinkles and celebratory frosting on each and every treat.

Of course, many people might have made their own version of these delicious-sounding dessert squares in their own home at one time or another. With all sorts of quick and easy Rice Krispies Treats recipes flying around online, it's safe to say there's no shortage of standout versions of the dessert, be it homemade chocolate, confetti or caramel Rice Krispies Treats.

As Allrecipes pointed out, the new Confetti Cake Rice Krispies Treats joins a growing lineup of desserts themed after birthday cake, as seen through the recent debut of Pillsbury's Funfetti Swirl Cake and Pebbles' Birthday Cake cereal.

While the new dessert no doubt sounds like a dream come true for most fans, it's worth mentioning that there's no current word on whether the flavor is a limited-time seasonal offering or a permanent addition to Rice Krispies Treats' lineup. With that in mind, fans might want to get their hands on the new treats sooner than later just to be safe!

Justin Bieber's Coachella Performance With His Younger Self: Was It 'Lazy' or Healing?

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 9:58pm

Fans were beyond excited to hear their favorite singer Justin Bieber would be headlining the second night at Coachella 2026. However, his sparse performance on Saturday night, a large part of which consisted him singing along with his own YouTube videos, has left Bieber fans, festival-goers and music reviewers divided.

Similar to his 2026 Grammy Awards performance, Bieber's 2026 Coachella set was very low-fi, no choreography, no big production. Instead, Bieber kept things chill, almost off the cuff at times, bringing a few special guests on stage to sing with him, and leaning mostly into tracks from his 2025 albums, Swag and Swag II.

Then, for a decent portion of the performance, he scrolled YouTube on his laptop and picked old-school Bieber fan favorite videos to be projected behind him on the big screen, and then he sang along with them. At times, he sang to them, almost like he was singing right to his younger self.

The feeling was much more like, "I'm hanging out reminiscing with my boy Justin Bieber in the garage" than "I paid over $500 for the musical performance of a lifetime." But then again, it did have a very familiar 2026 hyperactivity to it as well.

Photo by Kevin Mazur on Getty Images

Rolling Stone called Bieber's set "messy." Entertainment Weekly called the performance "sleepy." Page Six used some fighting words, actually calling it "lazy." But many fans loved every minute of it. In fact, in the comments on social, one fan wrote: "It’s okay if you weren’t the target audience for this performance. I was & I had a blast 🔥"

And who, if anyone does Justin Bieber owe the most to anyway, if not his fans, and what exactly does he owe them?

Related: Hailey Bieber Shares Rare Pics With Son Jack and the Last One Has Fans 'So Emotional'

Bieber, now 32, was discovered at age 13 in 2008. After releasing his debut My World album at age 15 in 2009, he quickly rose to teen idol status and became one of the youngest solo male artists to top charts. As he's publicly spoken about, he struggled with severe drug and alcohol use into his early 20s, as well as anxiety, depression, and other mental-health-related issues.

Like many young stars who got real big real fast, Bieber grew up publicly in front of a world who continued to expect more and more from him. He had to show up and sing, like it or not. And while we can talk about all the financial benefits that come becoming a mega-superstar at a young age, the shortfalls on your emotional stamina can be huge too.

So maybe this performance is exactly where Justin Bieber is right now. And maybe it's even a good place. Maybe it's a place of healing. He did seem to be enjoying himself.

Famed '90s folk-pop singer Jewel popped into the comment section to weigh in and say: "Like it’s inner child healing for him . This is a tough biz fr . He deserves the best❤️"

Other commenters agreed across social posts about his performance. It felt like healing. Healing for Justin and beyond. Check out some of the comments:

  • "him happy it’s such a healing feeling 😭 our brother!!!!!!!!"
  • "Happy healthy Bieber 🥲🤌🏽❤️"
  • "Being the parent he needed…feeling SEEN ❤️"
  • "I feel like I beliebe in life again"
  • "Bro is healing the masses ❤️‍🩹"
  • "i’m healing ❤️❤️"
  • "Justin is healing the world again."

Here's a quick montage from Bieber's intimate performance, followed by a few other clips if you missed it:

So was Bieber's Coachella performance lazy or was it healing? Maybe this is a question best answered by his fans, who've loved him through it all and continue to trust wherever he's headed, especially if he's found a happy, healthy way forward.

1991 Thriller Ranked Among ‘Best Movies of All Time’ Made Oscar History

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 9:39pm

A 1991 psychological thriller made Academy Awards history in a way only a handful of films ever have—and it’s still ranked among the best movies of all time.

The Silence of the Lambs, directed by Jonathan Demme and starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, achieved one of the rarest feats in Oscars history when it swept the “Big Five” categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Screenplay (adapted).

Only two other films—It Happened One Night (1934) and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975)—have ever accomplished that, putting the film in an elite category that spans nearly a century of cinema.

The film, based on the best-selling Thomas Harris novel of the same name, follows FBI trainee Clarice Starling (Foster) as she hunts a serial killer known as Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine), enlisting the help of the imprisoned and highly intelligent Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins). What set the movie apart wasn’t just its suspense, but its psychological depth and unforgettable performances, particularly Hopkins’ chilling portrayal of Lecter.

Despite limited screen time—often cited at around 16 minutes of on-screen presence, or roughly 25 minutes including off-screen moments where he is in a scene but off screen—Hopkins’ performance remains one of the most iconic in film history.

It is the second shortest performance in history to win a Best Actor Oscar, behind David Niven in Separate Tables (1958). Niven had about 15 minutes of on-screen time and about 24 minutes of all counted appearances. And if you go by percentage of the film's total length, Hopkins at 21 percent of Silence of the Lambs had the lowest percent of a Best Actor Academy Award winner.

IMDB users have ranked Hopkins' performance as the "Most Deserved Oscar" for a role with limited screentime.

Released in 1991, the film was both a critical and commercial success, grossing more than $270 million worldwide on a $19 million budget. It also became the first—and still only—horror film to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

Over the years, its reputation has only grown. Critics and audiences alike continue to rank it among the greatest films ever made. Rotten Tomatoes has it at No. 139 on its list of the 300 Best Films of All Time and the American Film Institute has it at No. 65 on its list of the Greatest Films of All Time. Its preservation in the National Film Registry further cements its legacy as an all-time classic.

More than three decades later, The Silence of the Lambs remains a defining moment in film history—one that proved a psychological thriller could dominate the Oscars while leaving a lasting cultural impact.

1995 Ultimate Classic Named No. 1 Hit Song Became an Unconditional Power Ballad

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 9:29pm

Some songs do not just climb the chart but also define an era.

That’s exactly the case with British singer Seal, who delivered an unexpected global phenomenon when he released the smash hit “Kiss From A Rose.”

Decades later, it is still considered a timeless power ballad that captivates listeners around the world.

The song was initially released in 1994 as part of the music star’s second self-titled studio album, Seal II.

However, a year later, it reached massive popularity after it was re-released as part of the soundtrack of the 1995 film Batman Forever, the third installment starring Val Kilmer.

In the same year, the single reached global rankings, dominating the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1 for one week and spent months on the chart.

In addition, Seal’s song also peaked at No. 4 in the UK Singles Chart as well as reaching the top 10 in countries like France, Iceland, Canada and Norway.

While “Kiss From A Rose” carries a deeply touching meaning, the journey behind its creation was far from effortless.

In the late 1980s, Seal, who was still figuring out life, was encouraged by his girlfriend to focus and get serious about his music.

“I was living in a squat,” he told Songexploder in 2023. “I didn’t have any money and I was just basically getting my act together, trying to figure out who I was musically. I couldn’t play an instrument at the time. But I tried to imagine what an orchestra would do and I tried to mimic a flute, pizzicato violins and a few other instruments. Essentially an orchestra.”

Despite the challenging situation, he managed to power through and create a song that is widely regarded as the most iconic of his music career.

“And so, I ended up recording about 16 or 17 tracks of vocals, trying to figure out how to work this machine. And everything was impulsive and instinctive,” he revealed, adding, “At the end of the day, doing it, I had this thing called ‘Kiss From A Rose.’”

Moreover, he admitted that he initially felt self-conscious after writing the song, recalling, “I remember kind of listening to the tape and I kind of tossed the tape to one side because I wasn’t particularly proud of it.”

This led him to achieve not just chart-topping success but also multiple award-winning moments.

Among these was his first Grammy win for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 38th Annual Grammy Awards.

'I Live for my Sons': Princess Diana's Heartwarming Quotes About Parenting

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 9:16pm

Princess Diana was a philanthropist, a member of the royal family, and most importantly to her, a mother to her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

The Princess of Wales shared her children with now-King Charles, with whom she was married from 1981 until their divorce was finalized in 1996. Diana died in a car crash at the age of 36 after a high-speed chase in August 1997. At the time, William was 15 years old, and Harry was 12.

Even though Diana was in Paris at the time of her death, her boys were still top of mind. Her longtime friend Richard Kay said they spoke about William and Harry shortly before the tragic accident.

“The police said that the last call she made was to me,” Kay recalled in a 2021 documentary. Diana was “in quite a good place,” but “she wanted to come back and see her boys,” he said about their final conversation, per People.

The world mourned after losing the People’s Princess, and William and Harry have worked to keep their mother’s legacy alive. However, it’s the little things they miss most of all.

“I miss that feeling, I miss having that mother to give you those hugs and that compassion that everyone needs,” Harry said during the 2017 HBO documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy. “Behind closed doors, she was a very loving, caring mother and an incredibly funny person. I think she lived a lot of her life, especially in private, through us and I think that childish fun element really came out when she was spending time with us.”

Best-Selling Author’s Hit Novel Ranked Among ‘Best Books of the Decade’ on Goodreads

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 9:04pm

Few modern romance novels have captured readers' attention quite like Beach Read.

The bestselling book by Emily Henry has been ranked among the "best books of the decade" on Goodreads, based on votes from readers. The recognition reflects the novel's lasting popularity and its impact on contemporary romance.

Originally published in 2020, Beach Read follows two writers, January Andrews and Augustus Everett, who couldn't be more different. January is a bestselling romance author who no longer believes in love, while Gus is a literary fiction writer struggling to find his next story. When the two end up living in neighboring beach houses for the summer, they strike a deal: each will attempt to write a novel in the other's genre.

View this post on Instagram

What begins as a playful challenge quickly evolves into something deeper, as both characters confront personal struggles, past heartbreak and the realities of their own beliefs about love and happiness. The novel blends humor with emotional depth, offering a story that feels both lighthearted and meaningful.

"I tend to be inspired by place more than anything, it's usually the first thing I'm excited about. I only know of a couple of writers which feel the same way, but a lot of the time I have a setting in mind before character or plot," Henry told The London Magazine. "I think about gothic and horror novels where setting informs the kind of story that should take place there, and it’s the same with romance; it’s 'what will this place bring out in a certain person' with a contrast between this beautiful, relaxing place and a darker history from the main characters."

Beach Read became a breakout success for Henry, helping to redefine the modern romance genre with its mix of wit, vulnerability and sharp character development. Its popularity also contributed to a wave of similarly styled romance novels that prioritize emotional realism alongside traditional love stories.

With its continued recognition on Goodreads, Beach Read stands as a defining novel of the decade, one that continues to connect with readers through its honest, heartfelt exploration of love, loss and second chances.

When Does the Next Episode of ‘Euphoria’ Come Out? Season 3 Release Schedule, Episode Count and More

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 9:00pm

It has been more than four years since the last episode of Euphoria aired on HBO, but the long wait is finally over. The Zendaya-led series returned on April 12, 2026, with what is expected to be its third and final season. That gap has only intensified interest, with viewers eager to see how the story continues after the emotional and chaotic events of Season 2.

Created by Sam Levinson, Euphoria has built a reputation as one of HBO’s defining modern dramas. Since its debut in 2019, the series has stood out for its bold visual style, heavy use of music, and unflinching look at addiction, identity, trauma, and relationships. The show blends heightened, almost dreamlike storytelling with grounded emotional arcs, which has helped it resonate strongly with younger audiences.

At the center of the story is Rue Bennett, played by Zendaya, whose struggle with addiction continues to anchor the series. Season 3 is expected to pick up after Rue’s fragile attempt at sobriety, raising questions about whether she can maintain stability or fall back into destructive patterns. Around her, the lives of Jules (Hunter Schafer), Maddy (Alexa Demie), Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), and Nate (JacobElordi) remain volatile, with unresolved tensions likely to shape the final chapter.

Season 2 ended with fractured relationships and several characters at turning points. Rue’s apology tour, Cassie’s emotional spiral, and Nate’s shifting loyalties all left open threads. Season 3 is expected to not only move the story forward, but also to conclude the show. In an interview on The Drew BarrymoreShow, Zendaya suggested that Season 3 is likely the last.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Key 'Porch Guy' DNA Evidence Should Be Focus of Investigation, Says Expert

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 8:59pm

Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing 10 weeks after the abduction from her Tucson, Ariz., home—and a DNA expert thinks that key evidence from "porch guy" should be the focus of the investigation.

During a recent interview with NewsNation, genetic genealogist CeCe Moore shared that she thinks investigators need to swab for more DNA at the 84-year-old's Catalina Foothills home.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

“It’s hard to know what they have already collected,” Moore acknowledged. “It’s possible they collected dozens or hundreds of swabs, and they’re still going through testing those."

"It’s so hard for a crime scene investigator to know exactly what to swab, since most DNA is invisible to the eye, right? So sometimes, it just is a trained intuition that causes them to swab the correct thing. Now, if they have tested everything and haven’t found a good sample of the perpetrator’s DNA, I do think that it is possible to go back to her home and do some more swabbing.”

Related: Nancy Guthrie Update—Supervisors Demand Answers From Sheriff Chris Nanos Amid Growing Criticism

A masked suspect—whom many following the case have labeled "porch guy"—was caught on Nancy's doorbell camera with a bit flashlight in chilling images and footage released by the FBI in February. For Moore, investigators' best potential lead is to find saliva from the unknown man.

“DNA is hardy. So it’s certainly possible there is still some DNA there—and in particular, I really do think that saliva is the most likely. And that is because of what appeared to be that bite flashlight in his mouth,” Moore explained. “Somebody wrote to me that has used one of those and agreed with me that it would produce a lot of saliva, and it would be very difficult not to leave some of that behind.”

Previously, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said that DNA samples sent off to a lab revealed "mixed DNA," meaning genetic material from more than one person.

“Our lab tells us that there's challenges with it," Nanos told NBC Nightly News in February. "The technology is moving so fast and in such a frenzy that they think some of this stuff will resolve itself just in a matter of weeks, months, or maybe a year."

Nancy was last seen at her Tucson home on the evening of Jan. 31, with the Pima County Sheriff's Department launching its search on Feb. 1, and the FBI joining soon afterward. As of writing, no suspect has been named, despite Savannah offering a $1 million reward in exchange for information leading to her mother's recovery.

1975 Soft Rock Hit Won an Oscar for ‘Best Original Song’ 50 Years Ago

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 8:53pm

It only makes sense that the music-centric 1975 film, Nashville, is known for its score. Actor and singer Keith Carradine provided his genuine musical talent while playing his Nashville character, Tom Frank. According to NPR, Carradine wrote and performed his character's song, "I'm Easy," which ended up taking home the Oscar for Best Original Song in March 1976.

While speaking to NPR's All Things Considered in 2013, Carradine shared his thoughts about his 1976 Academy Award win. He suggested that he had complicated feelings about the big award because it made him realize the fleeting nature of fame, but also gave him some wonderful opportunities.

"Well, I was on the A list — for about six months. One has to understand that in our business, that kind of bright, shining moment tends to fade rather quickly," said the Deadwood star, now 76. "It can be a shock to the system when you suddenly realize how quickly people might forget, but it put me into a position to be introduced to and be in the room with some extraordinary people. And some of those encounters led to a lot of what I'm proudest of about the career that I've had and the kinds of people with whom I've had the opportunity to work."

In a 2013 interview with Criterion, Carradine said he "started songwriting when [he] was a teenager" and penned "I'm Easy" when he was 19. In addition, Carradine said Nashville's director, Robert Altman, realized his musical talent during the production of the 1974 film, Thieves Like Us.

"I think I had my guitar and I was playing some of my songs at this party and [Nashville and Thieves Like Us screenwriter] Joan [Tewkesbury] and Bob heard the stuff. So I don't think of my music as being the genesis of the idea of doing the movie Nashville," said the actor during the 2013 interview. "But I do think that them hearing my music at that point had a lot to do with how the film was ultimately conceived and the idea of actors coming in and bringing their music to the production."

In addition, Carradine said he wasn't fond of his Nashville character, who was originally going to be played by Gary Busey. After Busey left production to film a television pilot, Carradine had to switch from playing Bill (Allan F. Nicholls) to Tom. According to Carradine, he shared his concerns with feeling "uncomfortable" portraying Tom to Altman, who assured him it was "fine."

"He knew exactly what he was doing. And what you see in the film, the end result, is this actor who doesn't like the character he's playing. Well, what the audience gets is a guy who doesn't like himself. So smart," said Carradine.

1987 Classic Hit Film Ranked Among ‘Best Movies of All Time’

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 8:40pm

In 1987, a fantasy film arrived that would quietly grow into one of the most beloved classics in movie history.

The Princess Bride, directed by Rob Reiner, has since been ranked among the best movies of all time by Rotten Tomatoes, cementing its reputation as a timeless favorite.

Based on the novel by William Goldman, who also wrote the screenplay, the film tells the story of Buttercup and Westley, two lovers separated by fate and reunited through a series of adventures filled with sword fights, kidnappings and daring rescues. The narrative blends romance, comedy and action in a way that feels both classic and refreshingly original.

The film's ensemble cast, including Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, and Mandy Patinkin, helped bring its unforgettable characters to life. Memorable lines and scenes, from epic duels to humorous exchanges, have become deeply ingrained in pop culture over the years.

"How blessed am I to have been in a film that resonates with so many people?" Elwes said in an interview with The Guardian. "I think I can speak on behalf of the entire cast when I say we all feel blessed by the response this film has now got, because it really didn’t have that response when it came out."

While The Princess Bride was only a modest box office success upon its initial release, it found a second life through home video and television, steadily building a devoted fan base. Its mix of heartfelt storytelling and self-aware humor allowed it to appeal to audiences of all ages.

More than three decades later, the film continues to resonate, often cited as one of the most quotable and rewatchable movies ever made.

With its inclusion on Rotten Tomatoes' list, The Princess Bride stands as a testament to the enduring power of a story that blends adventure, romance and humor—proving that true love and a great tale never go out of style.

1986 No. 1 Rock Hit Voted ‘Greatest Song’ of the Decade, Became a Defining Working-Class Anthem

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 8:29pm

There’s no question that Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer” has resonated with audiences far and wide. The arena-rock classic, released in 1986, was the band’s first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and earned them their second Hot 100 chart-topper. The song has also become one of the best-selling singles of all time, having sold millions of copies worldwide.

Additionally, there’s no shortage of lists where “Livin’ On A Prayer” has been mentioned. In 2006, the song was fan-voted No. 1 on VH1’s ‘100 Greatest Songs of the ‘80s’ list. The classic was also placed in Rolling Stones 2021 list of ‘500 Greatest Songs of All Time.’ While the smash served as one of the rock band’s earlier successes, it’s still widely regarded as their signature hit.

The Lyrical Message

Written by the band’s frontman, Jon Bon Jovi, alongside guitarist Richie Sambora and songwriter and producer Desmond Child, “Livin’ On A Prayer” finds the rocker group’s lead singer singing the story of a working-class couple who go by the names Tommy and Gina. A highly relatable storyline, their relationship is built on love, even as they struggle to make ends meet financially.

Tommy and Gina represent everyday people facing real-life challenges, and the song highlights how their bond remains strong despite the pressures of their situation. With a positive message, the pair builds each other up through encouraging words, reminding one another to keep it together because “We’ve got each other.”

‘We've gotta hold on to what we've got / It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not / We've got each other, and that's a lot for love / We'll give it a shot," Bon Jovi sings the pre-chorus before launching into the sing-along hook of the chorus.  “Whoa, we're halfway there / Whoa oh, livin' on a prayer / Take my hand, we'll make it, I swear / Whoa oh, livin'on a prayer.”

Indeed, the ‘80s glam rock song became an anthem for the working class, and Child happily shared the story behind how the song came together alongside Bon Jovi and Sambora.

Story Behind the Song

In an interview withThe Tennessean, he revealed the trio of collaborators had written another successful song from the Bon Jovi catalog — “You Give Love a Bad Name.” They penned that hit in the basement of Sambora’s parents' New Jersey house. By the time the three decided to write together for a second time, Child made sure the Bon Jovi bandmates traveled to him in New York City.

‘’You Give Love a Bad Name’ turned out so great that they asked to co-write with me again, and this time I said, ‘No, this time, you're coming to New York City,’” Child recalled. “I think they took the (train) out or something, and we met in a little apartment that was borrowed from a friend who had a piano. We started writing this story song about Tommy and Gina.”

He added that the anthem was somewhat autobiographical for each writer.

“For Jon, with his relationship with (wife) Dorothea, because they were high school sweethearts. In my case, I had a girlfriend that I started my first band (with), called Desmond Child & Rouge. Her name was Maria Vidal. I stayed home writing songs, and she worked as a waitress at a place called Once Upon a Stove,” he said. “They called her Gina because she reminded them of (Italian actress) Gina Lollobrigida.”

“So we started the song off with Johnny and Gina because Johnny was my original name. And (Jon) said, ‘I can't be singing about Johnny. My name's Johnny,” he continued. “It was like, ‘OK ... Tommy then. Tommy and Gina.’ And that's where Tommy and Gina were born.”

Both “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin’ on a Prayer” belong on Bon Jovi’s 1986 album, Slippery When Wet, which was named the 1987 top-selling album by Billboard. The collection spent eight weeks atop the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, and also features the Top 10 hit, “Wanted Dead or Alive.”

1997 Hit Film Ranked Among ‘Best Movies of All Time’

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 8:14pm

When Matt Damon and Ben Affleck pitched the screenplay for Good Will Hunting, they were essentially unknowns in the movie business. Both had been acting for several years, but neither was getting tapped for the big roles they dreamed of doing.

Affleck and Damon grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, together, and they decided to write their own project to star in. It became a hit and changed their lives.

Good Will Hunting premiered in Los Angeles, California, on December 5, 1997, and soon made waves nationwide.

The movie starred Damon as Will Hunting, a South Boston school janitor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who was a quiet math genius. Affleck played Chuckie Sullivan, Hunting's loyal best friend.

Hunting ends up in legal trouble, and a professor arranges for a deal that keeps him out of jail as long as he sees a therapist. The therapist is Sean Maguire, played by Robin Williams, in a role that was a significant departure for him.

Williams had been acting for years before signing on to Good Will Hunting. While he had a mix of roles, at the time, he was probably best known for his goofy, comedic character on Mork & Mindy. Playing the therapist in Good Will Hunting allowed Williams to tackle a meatier role, and he knocked it out of the park.

As Boston Magazine shared in 2013, Good Will Hunting grossed $226 million worldwide. It earned nine Academy Award nominations and won two. Damon and Affleck won for Best Screenplay, and Williams won for Best Supporting Actor.

Damon began the script for Good Will Hunting as part of an elective class at Harvard. He was in his fifth year, and the professor tasked the students with writing a one-act play. Damon went a different direction.

When he handed in his project, he told his professor, "Look, I might have failed your class, but it is the first act of something longer." Of course, he was right.

Damon landed a role in Geronimo: An American Legend and slept on Affleck's floor in Los Angeles. He took his script for Good Will Hunting with him and asked Affleck to help him develop it. The finished product looked a lot different than what Damon first turned in for his class.

While they worked on writing the screenplay, Damon said, "It was the first thing we woke up thinking about and the last thing we thought about before going to bed."

Producer Chris Moore had gotten to know Damon and Affleck, and he read the script. "I read it and was like, 'This is one of the best scripts I have ever read, and I would love to produce it.'"

Affleck and Damon were so green in the industry that they had no idea that they likely wouldn't be taken seriously regarding their script. However, ultimately, their experience was different because the script was just that good.

All these years later, Good Will Hunting is still considered a stellar movie. It sits at number 133 on the Rotten Tomatoes list of the 300 highest-rated movies of all time, ranking higher than other iconic movies such as Goodfellas and The Silence of the Lambs.

Goo Goo Dolls 'Best' Song From 1998 Smash Hit Album Wasn’t ‘Iris’ But This Other Power Ballad

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 7:58pm

The Goo Goo Dolls are known for their smash hit "Iris" from the 1998 album Dizzy Up the Girl — but fans have long argued that a different power ballad, "Black Balloon," is actually the better song.

Years ago, Louder Sound writer Paul Rees went so far as to make the bold declaration that track No. 5 on the album was the "best," despite "Iris" topping the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay for 18 weeks.

"The signature song from 1988’s Dizzy Up The Girl album was, of course Iris — but it wasn’t its best," he wrote. "From the swooning strings that punctuate its chorus to the arty black and white video that accompanied it, Black Balloon served more compulsive notice that the Goo Goo Dolls had definitively stepped up from being ragged alt-rock contenders and into the major leagues."

Additionally, Rees pointed out that the "trace element of grit in [lead singer John] Rzeznik’s voice remained though as their strongest calling card."

On Facebook, fans have also debated whether "Iris" or "Black Balloon" is better from Dizzy Up the Girl.

"'Black Balloon' every time," one fan declared.

Another wrote, "'Black Balloon' 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤," as a third pointed out, "Black Balloon...Iris was overplayed."

However, others were torn, with one Facebook user admitting, "That's fn hard..... they're both so damn good."

Others were firmly in the "Iris" camp, with one fan commenting, "'Iri's 💯 but they are both excellent."

A different Facebook user shared, "Iris, I don’t dislike 'Black Balloon' but I don’t think it’s half as good."

In December, Rzeznik posted a video explaining the meaning behind "Black Balloon."

“It had this crescendo in the bridge, at the very end where this beautiful piano and this strings section all come together and they just create this thing and then it just drops out, the bottom just drops out of it,” the 60-year-old explained on Instagram. “To me, that was very symbolic about what the song was about in the first place.”

During an interview on the Zach Sang Show, Rzeznik shared that a friend of the band who battled drug addiction inspired their song "Black Balloon."

1990 Power Ballad Named No. 1 Hit Song Became a Timeless Anthem

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 7:44pm

In 1990, Jon Bon Jovi stepped outside his band and into a solorcareer to release a song that would become one of the defining power ballads of the decade.

His track, "Blaze of Glory" climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking a major milestone in his career beyond Bon Jovi. With its cinematic sound and emotional intensity, the song quickly resonated with both rock fans and mainstream audiences.

"Blaze of Glory" was written specifically for the film Young Guns II, a Western that follows the story of Billy the Kid and his outlaw gang. Originally, Bon Jovi was approached to contribute an existing song, but instead chose to write an entirely new track inspired by the film's themes. The result was a powerful anthem that captures the spirit of rebellion, sacrifice and living life on one's own terms.

Musically, the song stood out for its blend of acoustic guitar, dramatic percussion and soaring vocals. Lyrically, it offered a more introspective and narrative-driven approach than many of Bon Jovi's earlier hits, helping to showcase his versatility as a songwriter.

"I was pretending that it was Billy the Kid, but it was my pain and distrust and things that I wasn't brave enough to write in the first person," Bon Jovi told Rolling Stone years later. "It was questioning the celebrity and now you're the big boy in the room — all that stuff."

The track's impact extended beyond the charts. It won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and earned an Academy Award nomination, solidifying its place at the intersection of music and film. And, it inspired Bon Jovi to record an entire album, not just the single track he'd originally intended.

"What started out as one song turned into an album because I was easily inspired," he said. "That was a great growth period."

More than three decades later, "Blaze of Glory" remains a standout moment in Jon Bon Jovi's career, a timeless anthem that continues to resonate with listeners through its storytelling, emotion and unmistakable sound.

1957 Hit Film Was Just Ranked 'the Greatest American Movie' of All Time

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 7:15pm

Despite premiering nearly 70 years ago, the 1957 film 12 Angry Men is still receiving accolades.

On April 11, Colliderreleased a list of the 20 greatest American films ever made, with 12 Angry Men securing the number one spot. According to the publication, the movie, directed by the late Sidney Lumet, is the very best American-made film because it's confined, direct, and examines ideas that are still very relevant in the U.S.A.

The list also featured classic films like The Godfather Part II from 1974, Do the Right Thing from 1989, 1979's Apocalypse Now, 1960's The Apartment, Singin' in the Rain, released in 1952, Schindler's List from 1993, and Pulp Fiction from 1994.

Sidney Lumet Shared His Thoughts About the Impact of '12 Angry Men'

During an interview for AFI's 10 Top 10, Lumet described 12 Angry Men as "the best [movie] in the United States about the jury system." He then explained that the film focuses on 12 jury members who have made decisions that "are brought about by personal feelings that may or may not have anything to do with the case."

"In some instances they do and in many instances, they don't. And as we know the Lee Cobb character, Jury Number Three, is the most wedded to a personal experience which is why he's the hold out on the other side, as much as [Henry Fonda's character] is but it's all in terms of what his personal history and what's happened between him and his son," explained the director.

Collider reported that Lumet hadn't directed a film before he took on 12 Angry Men, written by Reginald Rose. In a 1991 interview with the Television Academy Foundation, Lumet, who died in 2011 at the age of 86, explained he had directed television episodes before the production of 12 Angry Men. He shared that directing a television show is quite different than directing a film in terms of storytelling.

"You have to tell a story differently on a 17 inch piece of glass, as opposed to a 40 foot image, they say very different things to an audience with different speed. It becomes much clearer sooner when it's bigger and you have to adjust your storytelling for that. And it is a tremendously difficult adjustment to make because you're used to one kind of dramatic emphasis and you suddenly have to retool completely," said Lumet, who also directed A Dog's Day Afternoon.

He said, however, that his time working on television was "an enormous help," as "the laws of optics are constant" when it comes to "the thirty-five millimeter lens" used in both TV and film.

"My knowledge of lenses which is encyclopedic comes from my live television training," said the director.

Rory McIlroy Wins Another Masters as Daughter Poppy Cheers Him On

Sun, 04/12/2026 - 7:10pm

Another year, another green jacket. Golf legend Rory McIlroy may have taken the Masters by storm in a back-to-back win. But he’s not the only one in the family to steal the spotlight at Augusta National this year. His five-year-old daughter, Poppy (with wife Erica Stoll), is McIlroy’s biggest cheerleader, celebrating his 2026 win and “caddying” for the proud dad during the tournament’s family-friendly Par 3 Contest.

In a congratulatory clip of his most recent win (posted on The Masters Instagram), the camera pans to the spectators. And who is clapping for McIlroy? None other than his doting daughter, Poppy.

And then there was the iconic Green Jacket Ceremony. As McIlroy walked to the podium, the little girl stood with her mom (and the rest of the audience), continuing to clap for her dad.  In his post-win speech, McIlroy gave a heartfelt thanks to his family, saying, “First and foremost, my wife and daughter Erica and Poppy, they have to put up with me at home and trust me, sometimes that’s a tough thing to do.”

He added, “But they have been my biggest supporters, and this has definitely turned into Poppy’s favorite week of the year. I don’t know if it’s the Par 3 tournament or the all-you-can-eat ice cream in the players’ services building.” And like any other five-year-old, Poppy shook her head and covered her face at the ‘dad’ joke.’ Priceless!

View this post on Instagram

When asked, in a recent interview with CBS, what has brought him the most joy away from the game, McIlroy said, “I’d say watching my daughter grow up. I think Poppy is, um, she’s a mini Erica.” In other words, she’s just like mom. McIlroy met his wife in 2012 at the Ryder Cup. The pair married in 2017 and became parents to their only child, Poppy, in 2020.

Almost six years ago, the then-new dad shared a precious black-and-white pic of his little girl’s teeny-tiny hand, announcing her birth on Instagram. McIlroy captioned the photo, “Poppy Kennedy McIlroy, born August 31st, 12:15 p.m. She is the absolute love of our lives. Mother and baby are doing great.”

View this post on Instagram

How does McIlroy describe his daughter now? He continued, in the recent interview, “She is the most unbelievably polite, respectful, and well-behaved little girl.”

Is there another pro player in this family’s future? It seems like golf is in Poppy’s genes. The two-time Masters winner added, “And I really loved that she started to get into the game a lot more. And it all stemmed from the putt last year at the par three. So she made sure that I brought her putter up this year so that she could hit the putt with her putter and not mine…So that’s been amazing,”

Of course, this isn’t exactly Poppy’s first go at the Master’s Par 3 Contest. Back in 2023, the doting dad posted a cute clip of his daughter at the event, writing on Instagram, “Always one of the best days of the year.” It looks like bringing her own putter helped her chances this year. In the 2026 contest, Poppy got a 25-footer (downhill) with dad by her side.

Spending time together on the green isn’t the only wish the golfer has for his daughter. He explained, “And just to see her grow up to have her travel the world to see different places, you know, to give her a life that, you know, I could only dream about when I was that age.” Aww!
