3 Questions Everyone Should Ask a Financial Advisor During the First Meeting

Wed, 06/10/2026 - 4:41pm

Meeting with a financial advisor can feel intimidating. Some worry they don't earn enough money to justify professional advice, while others assume the conversation will focus entirely on investments.

SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox.

Parade had the chance to talk with financial planner and educator Nadia Vanderhall, founder of The Brands and Bands Strategy Group, about how the most important questions often have nothing to do with stocks, mutual funds, or retirement accounts. Here are the three questions she says many forget to ask in the first meeting.

Courtesy of Naida Vanderhall

1. "How Do You Get Paid?"

Vanderhall: One of the BIGGEST questions I think people should ask is, "How do you get paid?" Not because compensation is bad, but because understanding how someone gets paid helps you understand how they do business. I've met people who could tell me exactly what funds they owned, but had no idea how their advisor was compensated. That's a pretty important piece of the puzzle. I was just having a conversation with someone who met with an advisor, and the advisor was pushing them to unload their fund and reload it with their products. Knowing their structure gives you context on what to expect.

2. "What Happens After Today's Meeting?"

Vanderhall: I think a lot of people assume financial planning is either a one-time event or that someone is going to magically take over their financial life. Two things can be true: Some do offer a 1 time plan, but others are focused on relationship building. Ask what communication looks like. Ask how often you'll meet. Ask what happens when life happens, because life always happens. Beyond the jargon, what’s your client journey?

3. "What Type of Client Is Not a Good Fit for You?"

Vanderhall: The third question is one that almost nobody asks. I love this question because it cuts through the sales pitch. A good advisor should know exactly who they serve best and where they may not be the right fit. It's a link to how they would view your relationship and your money. At the end of the day, you're not interviewing a spreadsheet. You're interviewing a person who's going to help guide decisions that impact your life, your life planning, your family, and your future. The relationship matters just as much as the recommendations or structures.

Financial Planning Isn't Just for the Wealthy

Photo by PM Images on Getty Images

One of the biggest misconceptions Vanderhall encounters is the belief that financial planning is only for high earners. Many of her clients earn less than $100,000 annually and are focused on practical goals such as paying off debt, building emergency savings, understanding workplace benefits, and preparing for retirement. "The value isn't always in having more money," she says. "Sometimes the value is understanding how to make better decisions with the money you already have."

The first meeting with a financial advisor isn't just about evaluating your finances. It's also about evaluating the person who may help guide some of your most important financial decisions for years to come.

Africa's Biggest Airport Is Being Built in Ethiopia—and It Could Transform Air Travel Across the Continent

Wed, 06/10/2026 - 4:40pm

A massive new airport under construction in Ethiopia could soon reshape how millions of people travel across Africa.

The ambitious $12.5 billion Bishoftu International Airport (BIA), located about 25 miles (40 kilometers) south of Addis Ababa, is expected to become the largest airport on the continent when completed. The project is being developed by Ethiopian Airlines in collaboration with engineering and design firms DAR and Zaha Hadid Architects, with the goal of creating a major global aviation hub connecting Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

When fully built, the airport will be capable of handling up to 110 million passengers annually, making it one of the largest airports in the world. Phase 1 alone is expected to serve 60 million passengers per year, while the complete project will include four runways and parking for 270 aircraft.

Ethiopia is betting big on the future of air travel

The new airport comes as Ethiopian Airlines continues to expand its footprint as Africa's largest carrier. Officials say Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, the country's primary gateway, is rapidly approaching its capacity limits.

According to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, Bishoftu International Airport "will be the largest aviation infrastructure project in Africa's history," adding that it will offer "more than four times [the] capacity of Ethiopia's current main airport, which will reach traffic limits in two to three years."

The airport's location was chosen strategically. Zaha Hadid Architects noted in an Instagram post that the project "optimises Ethiopia's position at the crossroads of Africa, Asia, [and] the Middle East with a global transportation hub for the 21st century."

"Bishoftu International Airport is a visionary project for Ethiopia and Africa as a whole," Cristiano Ceccato de Sabata, Director of Aviation at Zaha Hadid Architects, said in a statement. "Airports bring people together and bridge national divides."

The site also offers operational advantages. According to project planners, Bishoftu sits roughly 400 meters below Addis Ababa's existing airport, and its longer runways will improve aircraft performance during takeoff. The added efficiency is expected to allow Ethiopian Airlines to use less fuel while carrying more passengers and cargo on longer nonstop routes to destinations around the world.

For travelers, the airport could help strengthen connections throughout Africa, where direct routes between countries are often limited, and many passengers still transit through Europe or the Middle East.

View this post on Instagram The airport's design takes inspiration from Ethiopia itself

Beyond its size, the airport is being designed to showcase Ethiopia's culture and geography.

According to Zaha Hadid Architects' aforementioned post, "each of the terminal's piers incorporates a unique materiality [and color] palette to reflect the diverse regions of Ethiopia." The design also draws inspiration from one of the country's most significant natural landmarks.

The architects explain that the airport is "inspired by the Great Rift Valley that passes through the country," with a central spine connecting terminal facilities and aircraft piers. Up to 80% of passengers are expected to be connecting travelers who never leave the airport. The facility is being designed specifically around fast transfers and hub operations.

Early renderings reveal sweeping, light-filled interiors and expansive terminal spaces designed to handle future growth while maintaining efficient passenger flow.

Sustainability also plays a major role in the project's design. In Ethiopia's temperate highland climate, the terminal will feature natural ventilation and solar shading systems to reduce energy consumption. Stormwater will be directed into newly created wetlands for storage and reuse while helping support local biodiversity. Photovoltaic arrays will generate renewable energy on-site, as well.

Beyond Bishoftu International Airport

The project extends far beyond the airport itself. Plans call for a sprawling Airport City featuring mixed-use developments, commercial spaces, and new infrastructure expected to create jobs for a local population of roughly 80,000 people.

The development is a key part of Ethiopian Airlines' Vision 2035 growth strategy, which aims to cement the carrier's position as Africa's leading airline.

Travelers will also benefit from a planned high-speed rail connection linking the airport with central Addis Ababa and Bole International Airport, while a 350-room airside hotel, restaurants, gardens, and entertainment spaces are designed to make long layovers more comfortable for the millions of connecting passengers expected to pass through the hub each year.

Whether viewed as an engineering achievement, an economic investment, or a symbol of Ethiopia's growing global ambitions, Bishoftu International Airport is poised to become one of Africa's most transformative infrastructure projects.

Taylor Swift’s Emotional Duet With Legendary Oscar-Winning Composer Leaves Internet in Tears

Wed, 06/10/2026 - 4:36pm

The internet was already in a frenzy over the news that Taylor Swiftwas releasing a brand-new song, "I Knew It, I Knew You," in connection with Disney and Pixar's highly anticipated sequel movie Toy Story 5, but her appearance at the movie's world premiere on June 9 has everyone even more excited.

In addition to posing with some of Toy Story's biggest stars, getting her Toy Story VHS signed by Tom Hanksand the other actors and being gifted a Jessie doll on the red carpet, Swift delivered an emotional, completely unexpected performance alongside legendary singer, songwriter and composer Randy Newman, who created, among many other things, the iconic song "You've Got a Friend in Me" from the original Toy Story movie.

Swift, in a dazzling floor-length yellow gown, stood on the other side of the piano as Newman played, and the two took turns singing the song that has become inseparable from the beloved '90s movie.

In addition to showcasing Swift's lower register, which isn't the style of singing she's most often associated with, the duet offered fans pure nostalgia, especially for millennials who were once Andy's age and are now feeling much closer in age to Andy's mom.

Pixar's Instagram post of the duet is flooded with comments precisely to that effect, as well as numerous comments expressing emotional responses to hearing the duet.

One commenter writes, "I will be emotional about this for the rest of my days. I swear. This was not on my bingo card. 😭💛☁️," and another says, "Things I didn’t know my millennial heart needed 😭😭😭." Yet another comment reads, "Toy Story came out when I was 7 years old and 30+ years later this song still makes me tear up🥹."

Of course, the internet (especially when it comes to Swifties) is always keeping an eye out for clues about what Swift may do next, and already, Swift's Toy Story 5 world premiere appearance has led to yet another theory, this one suggesting that Swift may have a surprise role in the movie.

If you're looking to elevate your cooking game, this affordable Aldi find is guaranteed to earn its spot in your kitchen. And while cast iron is known for its durability and longevity, you'll want to keep a few simple care tips in mind if you're a first-time user:

  • Dry thoroughly after washing: Moisture is the enemy of cast iron, so always dry your pieces completely to help prevent rust from forming.
  • Apply a light coat of oil after cleaning: A thin layer of cooking oil applied after each use helps maintain the seasoning and protects the surface between meals.
  • Always preheat before cooking: Cast iron retains heat extremely well, but it takes a bit longer to warm up. Give the skillet a few extra minutes on the stove to ensure even cooking every time.
  • Don't panic if food sticks at first: While cast iron is praised for its natural nonstick surface that improves with each use, it takes regular cooking and seasoning to fully build that perfect finish. Don't get discouraged, just keep using it!

Grab this set while it's still in stock, and while you're at it, take a peek at Aldi's new $25 beach bag and $15 collapsible picnic table too.

1985 Power Ballad About Finding Unexpected Love Became a Beloved Soft-Rock Anthem

Wed, 06/10/2026 - 4:03pm

Most people hear the 1985 "The Search Is Over" power ballad by Survivor as a straightforward love song. The real story behind it—about a friend who searched everywhere for the one person who was always right there—makes it land even harder.

A nice, clear-cut "meet cute" followed by dating and marriage or some version of "happily ever after" is fun to imagine. But "The Search Is Over" isn't about that kind of 1-2-3 love story. This romantic rock song's for anyone who's searched high and low for love only to discover it right in front of you. Sometimes that's just how a good love story unfolds.

And that's precisely the kind of "right under your nose" love story Survivor songwriters Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan were focused on capturing when they wrote "The Search Is Over."

"It wasn't about my life as much as a friend of mine who had a girlfriend—really a play pal throughout their growing up years—and never thought it could be anything more than that," Peterik said, explaining the ballad's backstory to Songfacts. "It was looking him straight in the face that this was the girl of his destiny, and he looked everywhere to find that dream girl only to come back to the sandbox."

That simple idea became the song's emotional foundation. In the hands of two talented songwriters, "The Search Is Over" became one of the era's most beloved romantic ballads.

The song certainly struck a cord with listeners in the mid-1980s, too. For fans who found love in their hometowns, married their best friends after two divorces, or practically tripped over an unexpected love later in life, this song told their stories.

Peterik shared how the the magic of the soft-rock classic unfurled. "I thought of this couple, and when we came up with the line, 'Then I touched your hand, I could hear you whisper, The search is over, love was right before my eyes,'" he and Sullivan looked at one another, Peterik said, and they both had actual goose bumps. "It was the magical turn of that phrase and realizing what this song was about. I think we discovered the song as we were writing it."

Related: 1988 Power Ballad About the Things Left Unsaid Became One of the Most Emotional Songs of the '80s

Lead singer Jimi Jamison hit the verses with a graceful intimacy and built up to the passionate, full-throated, high-note belt of the chorus. When he croons, "Now I look into your eyes, I can see forever / The search is over, you were with me all the while," listeners get swept up. His soaring vocals not only elevated the song to power ballad status, but the performance also revealed a softer, more vulnerable side to the band, best known for "Eye of the Tiger" and more harder-edged arena rock.

"The Search Is Over" was officially released as a single on April 5, 1985. It was the third single from Survivor's fifth studio album, Vital Signs, which dropped in 1984. By July 1985, “The Search Is Over” peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100

Over 40 years later, fans still embrace the soft rock anthem on adult contemporary radio and to date, the song has over 91 million streams on Spotify alone. "The Search Is Over" carries a hopeful message that never ages because many people want to believe the search will end in love, sometimes where you least expect it.

Peterik's buddy eventually found his way back to the sandbox and to the woman of his destiny. The song he inspired isn't going anywhere.

Walmart’s 'Breathable' $4 100% Cotton T-Shirt Is a 'Foundation Piece for Summer' That Comes in 12 Colors

Wed, 06/10/2026 - 4:01pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

During the hottest stretches of summer, breathable fabrics become less of a preference and more of a requirement. Cotton is usually the first thing people reach for thanks to its naturally airy feel and moisture-absorbing properties that help keep you cool and comfortable, even on humid days. The catch is that truly wearable cotton dresses, shorts, and tops can be hit or miss, either feeling too thin and flimsy or priced higher than you’d expect for something so simple.

If you’re looking to refresh your summer basics with high-quality pieces, Walmart has a deal that makes doing so more affordable. The Free Assembly Cotton Cropped Boxy Tee is now as much as 60% off, dropping the price to as low as $4. While there are only a few sizes left at $4, the other 11 options are also on sale for $5 and $8. With that markdown, it makes sense to grab a few and build out a lineup you can cycle through, instead of relying on the same one or two shirts all season.

Basics don’t have to mean boring, and this tee proves it with a handful of small details that actually make a difference once it’s on. It’s made from 100% cotton, so it has that soft, breathable feel you want in the middle of summer, but the shape is what really sets it apart. The fit is relaxed and boxy without looking oversized, and the slightly cropped length hits at just the right spot to pair easily with high-waisted bottoms. A classic crew neck and short sleeves keep it grounded, while short side slits keep it from feeling too straight, stiff, or restrictive at the hips.

It’s available in 12 different colors, ranging from easy neutrals and classic primaries to brighter picks, stripes, and even a few nautical-inspired graphic styles. Sizes run from XS through 4XL, giving a wide range to find your preferred fit. Pricing can vary depending on the size and style you choose, and some options have already sold out.

Shoppers also repeatedly mention how easy it is to care for, which only adds to its appeal. A shopper who purchased multiple styles said they "laundered beautifully and came out of the dryer wrinkle-free" without shrinking, and that "the colors remained vibrant."

'Sweet Magnolias' Star Heather Headley Reveals the Secret Struggle That Threatens Helen and Erik's Wedding (Exclusive)

Wed, 06/10/2026 - 4:00pm

As Sweet Magnolias returns for Season 5, attorney Helen Decatur (Heather Headley) and chef Erik Whitley (Dion Johnstone) are preparing for one of the happiest moments in their lives: Their joyous wedding.

But as fans of the Netflix hit know, nothing in Serenity comes without at least a few complications. After weathering plenty of highs and lows in recent seasons, Helen and Erik discover that planning a wedding can reveal unexpected truths.

“One of the things I remember from my own wedding is how much you learn about the person you're marrying and their family,” Headley exclusively told Parade.

“It is one of those times where all these emotions come to the forefront, and these tastes and differences of opinion come to the forefront.”

For Helen and Erik, wedding planning uncovers issues neither of them anticipated.

“Before the planning, they were not challenged by these things,” Headley said. “But some rites of passage – such as health care decisions, the blessing of a child, and weddings - bring out emotions and issues you weren't expecting.”

As preparations intensify, Helen begins to see parts of Erik that have remained hidden.

“She learns a bit about Erik and uncovers a few scars that have not healed,” Headley said. “There are a few scratches on the record, and that scratch may have been there for some time because of his parents, his life, and his perception of things. They have to work through that—and they should—before she puts that ring on it and marries him.”

As always, Sweet Magnolias remains grounded in family, community, faith, and friendship. At the center of the story is the lifelong bond among Helen, Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), and Dana Sue Sullivan (Brooke Elliott) -- a friendship many viewers have come to seek in their own lives.

Headley believes the show's timing helped deepen its impact. When Season 1 debuted in 2020, audiences were isolated during the pandemic and craving meaningful connections.

“At the time, I remember going through my list of friends and figuring out who was in my circle—who were the two or three women who were with me through every victory and every lesson,” she recalled.

For Headley, friendships like the one the Magnolias share are built on honesty, trust, accountability, and loyalty.

“It means you can sit there and say, ‘I'm getting ready to tell you everything,’” she said. “Especially as women get older, we need that place where we can verbally spew out everything that's going on in our lives.”

Over the years, Headley has been touched by viewers who tell her they long for friendships like the ones portrayed on screen. “It's beautiful to see these relationships grow stronger and hear women say, ‘What I'm looking for is a truthful friendship like that.’ ”

This season also takes the Magnolias out of their comfort zone when Maddie heads to Manhattan for a dream publishing job. For Headley, the New York storyline was especially meaningful. “I love being in New York,” she said. “Because of my Broadway background, I lived there for six or seven years.”

Bringing Serenity's Southern charm to the city created some memorable moments both on-screen and off.

“Having the girls there and being there with the show was even sweeter,” she said. “Seeing New York through Serenity's eyes was great. As castmates and friends, we loved it!”

Looking back over five seasons, Headley says Helen has taught her a great deal. When she first accepted the role, she was happily married, pregnant, and soon after was caring for her newborn daughter. “I came into the show to play a single woman who was extremely accomplished, a giant in her community and beloved by her friends,” she said.

Yet despite her success, Helen felt something was missing. “She wanted someone to come home to, a partner and a family.”

Throughout the five seasons, Headley says Helen's story has become a lesson in understanding what truly matters. The character's search for lasting love has been particularly meaningful.

“I love that she has been great about understanding what wasn't right for her. Even with Ryan, who she loved with all her heart and thought was her happily ever after,” Headley said. “But she matures enough to realize he's not the one and had to search for the person who is.”

Through heartbreak, self-discovery, and personal growth, Helen has emerged stronger than ever. “Even through fights with her girlfriends, fights with herself, and now being in love, it's been a beautiful journey.”

Beyond television, Headley continues to shine on the stage. The Tony Award winner earned Broadway's highest honor for Aida in 2000 and recently returned to another iconic venue: Carnegie Hall.

Related: ‘Sweet Magnolias’ Star Brooke Elliott Teases Dana Sue’s Marriage Is Heading for a Breaking Point in Season 5 (Exclusive)

Despite her extensive experience, the performance still came with nerves. “I was scared out of my mind and shaking in my boots for months beforehand because it's Carnegie Hall,” she admitted.

The concert marked her second solo appearance at the legendary venue. “It was such a privilege to perform there again with such a great audience. I had the best band in the world.”

Headley remains humbled by the artists who have stood on that stage before her. “To walk in the footsteps of Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, and so many others -- I'm more than grateful that it went so well.”

And if the right stage opportunity comes along? With support from her husband and three children, she would gladly return to Broadway.

Headley has two teenage sons and a seven-year-old daughter. Like many parents, she is amazed by how quickly time passes. “All of a sudden, you're just like, ‘Oh my gosh, they've grown up,’” she said.

While she describes her children as loving, kind, and grateful, she laughs about one major difference between parenting and performing. “In my work, if I do something well, people applaud,” she said. “Motherhood is not like that at all.”

As for a potential season 6, Headley says the decision ultimately rests with Netflix and the fans. Season 5 provides a satisfying conclusion if the series ends, but she believes there is still more stories left to tell in Serenity.

“There is a nice little bow on it now, just in case it ends with Season 5,” she said. “But I think there's a little more to see.”

Among the stories she would love to explore are Helen's family history and her mother's life in Serenity. “I've always wanted to know a little bit more about Helen's mom and her time in Serenity,” Headley said.

She also believes the Magnolias themselves still have plenty of life ahead of them. When the series began, it centered on three women in their 40s navigating divorce, career challenges, love, and reinvention. For Headley, that remains one of the show's greatest strengths. “They were a lawyer, a chef, and a mom going through their lives in their 40s,” she said.

“For me, that has been a beautiful time in my life,” she said. “It would be nice to see these women move into their late 40s and 50s and see where life takes them, because it's such a poignant time in our lives.”

Season 5 of Sweet Magnolias premieres on June 11 on Netflix. Seasons 1–4 are currently streaming.

Frankie Grande Reveals Whether He'd Ever Return to 'Big Brother' (Exclusive)

Wed, 06/10/2026 - 4:00pm

Frankie Grande has played many roles. That can be taken literally, considering his work across Broadway, including his current turn as Victor Garber in the parody musical Titanique. Additionally, the 43-year-old has served as everything from a TV judge to a live shopping show host. But, for 88 days in the summer of 2014, he added another point to his resume, competing for half a million dollars in the sixteenth season of Big Brother.

The result was, for lack of a better term, a star turn. Frankie set a record during his time in the house, winning five Head of Household competitions. He pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the show's history when he won a pair competition by himself, after his partner chose to sit out completely. During a particularly dramatic moment, he revealed to the house not only his job as a "social media mogul," but also that his half-sister was Ariana Grande.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

That all culminated in Week 12 of Big Brother 16, when Frankie found out firsthand why the CBS summer show's motto is "Expect the Unexpected." After winning HoH and Veto back-to-back, everything was completely nullified with the press of a "Rewind Button." In the blink of an eye, everything was reset, and while the competitions were repeated, Frankie couldn't duplicate his performance. And so he went from the most locked-in safe player to the next evicted, taken out by his own alliance.

The Big Brother 16 cast has brought about a number of successful returnee appearances. Most prominently, both Nicole Franzel and Cody Calafiore would go on to win in their second attempts. As the years went on, and several houseguests would re-enter the game, however, Frankie would be surprisingly absent. But let it be known, despite his success on stage and screen since his days on reality TV, he's eager to make a return appearance.

"I would do Big Brother All Stars," he tells Parade during a sitdown interview in his backstage dressing room. "And they should call me, because now they know that I want to do it."

Related: Here's Every Player Who Has Won 'Big Brother' (And What They're Doing Now)

"Apparently, for years, they thought I didn't want to play," he continues. "When I was drunk or high, I probably said in an interview, like, 'I would never play again.' But I was like, 'I was drunk and high. Leave me the f—k alone! Why don't you guys ask me directly?'"

Frankie would get his chance in the intervening years to play Big Brother again, albeit from across the pond. In mid-2016, he was one of the famous faces on Celebrity Big Brother in the U.K., where he yet again turned out a fifth-place finish. It wasn't until 2023 that American producers finally reached out. Whether they believed Frankie would avoid a summer stay or not, CBS was producing a brand-new spin-off, Reindeer Games, a holiday-themed special revolving around the competitions. And that's how he found himself back in the house, trading in bathing suits for cozy sweaters.

Frankie replicated his success from the flagship show on Reindeer Games, seen as arguably the frontrunner going into the finale. Unfortunately, he finished just shy of the grand prize of $100,000 and a personal thank-you from Santa Claus. And, as he reveals to Parade, fans may not have seen the biggest reason why.

"I had a horrific bronchial infection," he recounts. "Which is always why I say I didn't win, because I literally couldn't breathe by the end of it. I was puffing on my inhaler, and they're like, 'Are you okay?' And I was like, '[Makes extensive gasping noises.]' And they're like, 'Okay, he's dying.'"

Despite not returning to Big Brother as a houseguest, Frankie has made extensive cameos on the show. He took select houseguests to an Ariana concert the summer after he played. He showed up in the show's attempt to build out their own MCU around superheroic "BB Comics" personas. He was part of the trio that sought to undo history with the infamous "Time Laser." In fact, he played a prominent role in last season's finale, serving as not only the host for Part 2 of the final HoH competition, but also one of the "Masterminds" responsible for wreaking havoc all season long, looking to get revenge for having his game ruined by a twist.

Big Brother clearly has a lot of love for Frankie Grande in their heart. And it's quite mutual, as he reveals even host Julie Chen Moonves came to see him on Titanique's opening night. And, as he believes, now that he and the producers are on the same page about his willingness to play again, his prospects of doing another season shine as bright as...well, a Frankie.

1973 Rock Classic, Originally Disliked by the Lead Singer, Remains a Radio Classic 53 Years Later

Wed, 06/10/2026 - 3:51pm

Fifty-three years ago, the iconic '70s rock and roll band Faces released "Ooh La La," a song that, despite being despised by its lead singer, became a classic that would persevere for decades.

Released in March 1973 as the title track for their fourth and final studio album, "Ooh La La" was initially a slow-burn success. Even though the track is currently recognized as a major folk rock anthem, it never entered the charts during its original release. In 1998, lead singer Rod Stewart released a solo cover of the song as a tribute to his late bandmate Ronnie Lane, which charted on the U.S. Adult Contemporary chart and served as the catalyst for the track's resurgence.

Nearly two decades after its release, "Ooh La La" began seeing exponential growth in popularity. It was featured in the emotional closing credits for Wes Anderson's 1998 film Rushmore, which introduced it to fresh audiences and attracted other Hollywood projects. The song's nostalgic lyricism, which highlighted the fleeting nature of youth, and wistful acoustic instrumentation made it a staple in coming-of-age stories and commercials.

Since its big break in Rushmore, "Ooh La La" has been featured in countless massive cinema projects, including the 2000s films Without a Paddle and Blow. The song has also been spotlighted as recently as the 2020s, appearing in Amazon Prime's original series Daisy Jones & The Six and Academy Award-winning film Sentimental Value.

Even with the track's delayed mainstream recognition, Stewart has been open about his disdain toward the song in the past, going on record to call the parent record a "stinking rotten album" to British magazine Melody Maker. Despite being the frontman of Faces, Stewart did not record vocals for the song. Guitarist and "Ooh La La" co-writer Ronnie Wood had to step in to sing on the track due to Stewart's inability to hit the right notes.

Today, "Ooh La La" continues to thrive in popular culture. Since the late '90s, it has become a major staple on rock and roll radio stations, often considered as a legendary deep cut for classic rock fans. Its critical acclaim is also irrefutable, with Rolling Stone ranking it among the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Its presence in major pictures and consistent playtime on airwaves has contributed to its undeniable streaming success in the digital era. On Spotify alone, the song has accumulated over 368 million streams—a testament to its unique, enduring momentum despite its initial obstacles.

Matt Damon Says 'The Odyssey' Is Worth It for This Reason Alone (Exclusive)

Wed, 06/10/2026 - 3:50pm

In case you haven't heard, there's a summer blockbuster coming out soon, starring Matt Damon.

There is so much buzz surrounding The Odyssey that director Christopher Nolan just had a historic movie theater named after him as the release date nears.

"To be recognized in this way by Alamo Drafthouse, and with this particular theater which continues the great tradition of showing films on 70mm film, is an incredible honour," Nolan, 55, said in a statement Wednesday, June 10 regarding the San Francisco location.

Meanwhile, the movie's leading man, 55, has been out and about doing promotion — but for his own sort of passion project. Damon spoke exclusively to Parade this week about his Water.org nonprofit's new initiative and also took time to reflect on his experience working on Nolan's latest big-budget feature.

"Odyssey was definitely the hardest thing I've ever done — it's not even close — for everybody, for the entire crew," Damon told Parade. "And that's what made it so, so great to work on, was — you were working as hard as you ever had, but you realized that every single person around you was, too. And so it was really fun to be a part of that group."

The Oscar winner also teased the grand-scale nature of his upcoming epic — and when asked what he's most excited for audiences to experience, here's what Damon said:

"I think seeing it on IMAX, if you can, because... it was not easy shooting an entire film in IMAX. It was really challenging, and a lot of people had to work really hard to make that happen, and so... I feel like it's really going to be worth it for the audience."

The Odyssey hits theaters July 17, and Damon will surely be doing those press rounds as the date approaches. But on Tuesday, June 9, his charity's Get Blue initiative launched, and U.S. consumers can easily get involved. Find out more in Damon's PSA below.

1969 Classic, Ranked Among 'Best Funk Songs' of All Time, Remains a Timeless Anthem 57 Years Later

Wed, 06/10/2026 - 3:49pm

When you think of songs that undeniably make you want to tap your toe and bust a move, the 1969 classic, "It's Your Thing" by the Isley Brothers, is an absolute essential. The groovy track, released by vocal trio, brothers Ronald, Rudolph, and O'Kelley Isley, remains a timeless anthem nearly six decades later.

Part of the group's sixth studio album—aptly titled It's Our Thing, based on the circumstances and timing of the release—it climbed charts around the world and earned its place among Billboard’s best funk songs of all time. The song became their first major success after leaving Motown and the debut single on their own independent label, T-Neck Records.

The famed music publication ranked the hit—which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for one week starting May 3, 1969, and hit No. 1 on the Hot R&B chart—at No. 27 on its lineup of the 30 greatest era-defining funk tracks. Earth, Wind, and Fire‘s “Shining Star,”Lipps Inc.'s "Funkytown" and Stevie Wonder‘s “Superstition” also make appearances, among several others; Zapp‘s “More Bounce to the Ounce” was ranked No. 1.

Additionally, the song won the 1970 Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.

Fifty-seven years later, it remains a popular dance staple. At the time of writing, it had gained over 124 million streams on Spotify and nearly three million views on YouTube.

The tune tells the story of being free to do something your own way. "In this song, Ronald Isley is letting a girl know that she is free to spread her love around, as long as he gets some of it too. 'It’s Your Thing' was a popular saying at the time and wonderfully ambiguous, so it could have a sexual connotation or simply be about personal independence," according to Genius.

Meanwhile, the album, in its totality, was reportedly an artistic and commercial response to the group's former record label's restrictive nature, and themed around gaining their own independence in the industry after conflicts with Motown.

Geena Davis, 70, Is Making an Unexpected Return to Action Movies—and It’s With Arnold Schwarzenegger

Wed, 06/10/2026 - 3:37pm

Geena Davis has done everything from A League of Their Own to Thelma & Louise, but the Oscar winner has a new action film in store.

Davis, 70, rose to stardom in films like Beetlejuice and The Accidental Tourist, for which she won an Academy Award. She later became instantly identifiable thanks to roles like Thelma, and even tackled television with her role in Commander in Chief. Behind the scenes, Davis launched the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, which works to increase the presence of female characters in media. Now, the stunner is back with a major action role alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. Deadline just reported that Davis is set to join The Kellys, a new action film from Amazon MGM. In addition to Schwarzenegger, she'll star alongside Liam Hemsworth, Kelsey Asbille, and Abby Elliott. According to the provided synopsis, The Kellys follows Jack Kelly, a disgraced NYC cop whose wife, Molly, is taken hostage by terrorists inside an old armory building. "He’ll have to join forces with the people he fears most to save her: His family," the synopsis reads.

While it doesn't say what role Davis will play in the film, it's exciting to see the star in an action role. While she's dipped into the genre a bit, with roles in Cutthroat Island and The Long Kiss Goodnight, this is a unique pick for the actress.

1974 Soft Rock Ballad Never Hit No. 1 — But Became a Classic

Wed, 06/10/2026 - 3:22pm

Despite now being considered a classic soft rock song,Electric Light Orchestra's (ELO) 1974 tune, "Can't Get It Out of My Head," never reached No. 1. According to American Songwriters, the song, off the beloved 1974 album Eldorado, did manage to land on the No. 9 spot on Billboard's Hot 100.

Far Out magazine reported that the track was penned by the band's vocalist and songwriter Jeff Lynne. According to the publication, Lynne shared that "Can't Get It Out of My Head" depicts "a guy in a dream who sees this vision of loveliness and wakes up and finds that he’s actually a clerk working in a bank" during an interview for VH1 Storytellers.

"And he hasn’t got any chance of getting her or doing all these wonderful things that he thought he was going to do," continued Lynne during the VH1 Storytellers interview, per Far Out.

Jeff Lynne Shared When He Knew ELO Had Become Successful

In a 2012 interview with Classic Rock, Lynne referenced that the release of "Can’t Get It Out Of My Head" and Eldorado marked the beginning of an era of mass popularity for ELO. While speaking to the publication, he said he believed ELO improved as a band "about six months after" original member Roy Wood's 1972 departure. He explained that he and Wood weren't the best collaborators.

"We made the second album [ELO II], and that had [a version of Chuck Berry’s] Roll Over Beethoven on it. It went Top 40 in America. So suddenly we’ve got our foot in the door over there," said the guitarist, now 78, during the 2012 interview. "But I always remember my dad saying to me: 'The trouble with your tunes is they’ve got no tunes,' because he didn’t think much of my songs. So I thought, I’ll show ya. And I wrote 'Can’t Get It Out Of My Head,' a tune that was full of tunes. We put that on the fourth record, Eldorado, which sold half-a-million and went gold in America."

He also said he knew that ELO took off after he and his bandmates began playing American venues with "20,000-seaters."

"We were driving in a limo up La Cienega towards Sunset Boulevard, and there was this great big billboard that said ‘Welcome ELO,'" recalled Lynne. "I thought: “F--k, this is good.” The record label had put us to stay in the Continental Hyatt House, which used to be called the Riot House after John Bonham or someone rode a motorbike around the top floor. And there was another sign saying ‘Welcome ELO’ outside. That’s when I felt like we’d made it. But after that it just got bigger and bigger."

Connor Storrie’s First Look in ‘Criminal Minds’ Has the Internet Losing Its Mind

Wed, 06/10/2026 - 3:16pm

The Heated Rivalry boys have become the internet’s obsession, and it doesn’t seem like that obsession will be ending anytime soon.

On May 28, Criminal Minds: Evolution made its return with its 19th season. Alongside its usual cast of Joe Mantegna and A.J. Cook, Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie will be making a celebrity guest appearance in a four-episode arc beginning on June 11. But series Creator Erica Messer told Vulture that last summer, long before Heated Rivalry took the world by storm, Storrie was already cast and had shot his part.

“We were very much interested in finding somebody that would stand out a bit. Connor won that, hands down,” Messer said to Vulture. “The interesting thing is, none of us knew what Heated Rivalry was. Even if it was on his résumé, I think the conversation was, ‘He’s just finished this thing that hasn’t aired yet.’ It wasn’t anything more than that.”

View this post on Instagram

In Criminal Minds, Storrie will play Lance Kingston, a narcissist who is accused of stalking his ex-girlfriend. In an exclusive clip from PEOPLE, Storrie’s character is shown being questioned, leading to an intense outburst.

Storrie was only meant to make a one-episode appearance in the show. However, Messer said to Vulture that he brought such a huge screen presence that the writers expanded his part.

“We were like, ‘Okay, I know he was important for episode four, but we’ve got to make him more integral to the rest of the season,’” Messer said. This was “100 percent because he was so compelling,” she said.

When asked if Storrie will return to Criminal Minds after these four episodes, Messer replied, “You never say never.”

Fans quickly took to social media to express their excitement for Storrie’s arc.

“I never watched Criminal Minds before but I am so wanna watch these episodes like my life depends on it,” one user commented on Instagram.

“I know he's had the time of his life on set just being able to go crazy and showcase even more of his acting chops,” another said.

Aside from his appearance in Criminal Minds, Storrie has a busy summer ahead of him. The actor will star in April X, a psychological sci-fi thriller, set to release in over 500 theaters this September. And, of course, Storrie will reprise his role as Ilya Rozanov in Heated Rivalry season 2, which is on track to film in August. It was recently announced that the new season will be released in April of 2027.
