It seems like just yesterday that Saturday Night Live's 51st season got off to an unforgettable start (thanks in no small part to host Bad Bunny). Justin Theroux Quietly Welcomes First Baby With Nicole Brydon Bloom, ‘We Are So in Love’

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 3:53pm

Some fans know him as the former Mr. Jennifer Aniston, butJustin Therouxis really one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. And while his resume includes movies like The Girl on the Train and television series such as The Leftovers, the 54-year-old can now add dad to his list of accomplishments.

Theroux recently announced the birth of his first child, a son with wife, actress Nicole Byrdon Bloom. And fans couldn’t be happier for the new mommy and daddy.

Who is Justin Theroux’s wife?

If you watch Hulu’s popular post-apocalyptic, sci-fi-ish, political thriller Paradise, then you already know Nicole Brydon Bloom. The 32-year-old actress plays the creepily complex character (who just wants to play Wii), Agent Jane Driscoll. She’s also the daughter of news journalist David Bloom, who died in 2003 from a pulmonary embolism while covering the war in Iraq.

Bloom married Theroux in Talum, Mexico, in March of 2025. The pair posted a carousel of photos (on Instagram) from the intimate affair, writing, “Had a very special week.” Bloom also shared pics of her gorgeous gown, crediting celeb designer and former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham, for the design.

During an interview with Drew Barrymore (on Drew’s show), Theroux said, of meeting Bloom, “The first impression was wow, and then a friend of mine who was with me, literally the quote was that’s the one. Like, we hadn’t even met yet. And I was like, she’s so stunning.” Aww! And a few short years later, the duo is married and has a brand-new baby!

When did Justin Theroux and Nicole Brydon Bloom announce the pregnancy?

Bloom shared pics of her belly bump (and some seriously serene scenery from a Mexican vacation) on Instagram in December 2025. The actress captioned photos, “So much fun to revisit our favorite place with a little one on the way.”

View this post on Instagram When did the celeb parents announce their baby's birth?

Theroux and Bloom revealed the birth of their baby on April 18, 2026, with a precious black-and-white pic of the proud dad holding his little one. The happy couple captioned the photo, “He’s here…we are so in love.” So, while we now know that the pair are parents to a son, we don’t know the little guy’s name.

Fans and famous friends send their congrats. Bloom’s Paradise co-star Sarah Shahi added a string of hearts, as did Hacks’ star Hannah Einbinder. Tan France commented, “My loves! I'm so happy for you guys,” and news anchor Peter Alexander wrote, “Congratulations! We’re thrilled for you and Nicole - and both families!”

Whoopi Goldberg Makes Honest Confession About ‘Ghost’ Co-Star Patrick Swayze

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 3:32pm

It’s been over 25 years since Whoopi Goldberg made Ghost with Patrick Swayze, but she will never forget what he did for her.

Goldberg appeared on the Rich Eisen Show, where host Rich Eisen surprised her with an epic throwback moment. Eisen showed Goldberg a picture of her winning an Oscar for her portrayal of Oda Mae Brown in Ghost.

After declaring that she looked good, The View host admitted she was grateful to have earned the Oscar for a movie where someone really wanted to work with her. Goldberg explained that the reason she was in the film was because of Swayze and explained how it happened.

Goldberg revealed that back in the day, she was at lunch with a friend who had just auditioned for Ghost. Her friend declared, “Every black woman and their mother was there,” but Goldberg wasn’t and knew nothing about the film.

“When we got finished with lunch, I called my agent and said, ‘Do you know about this movie that everybody's talking about?’ He said, ‘Oh, who told you?’ And I told him, I said, ‘Why did you say it like that?’ He said, ‘Because they don't want you,’” she spilled.

Things changed when Swayze was cast in Ghost, and he wanted to know why Goldberg wasn’t attached to the movie.

“Patrick Swayze, he said, ‘Well, I don't know if I want to commit to this until we find out if she would do it, because I think I should do it with her.’ And it was a match made in heaven, for me, made in heaven, because he was extraordinary. As you think he might be, he was even better. And we created this movie that you know, lives on,” Goldberg gushed.

12 Best Bakery Items at Publix

Let's be honest: with so many things to choose from, whittling down the best ones is like picking our favorite Beyoncé song. They're all hits! Truly, it's nearly impossible to go wrong in the Publix Bakery, but if you need a little guidance, we've rounded up a few treats that should definitely be on your radar. Here are the 12 best bakery items at Publix.

1. Vanilla Cake Slice with Coconut Buttercream

Kenn C. Bivins

We get it, coconut isn't for everyone, but this cake might just convert you. Moist vanilla cake is layered with rich coconut buttercream and then finished with a dusting of shredded coconut. It's light and airy, not too sweet, and it's the perfect anytime little sweet treat. Pro tip: Pop it in the microwave for five seconds, then enjoy it with your morning coffee. How's that for a sweet start to the day?

2. Banana Cream Cheesecake

Kenn C. Bivins

Although this cheesecake is clearly meant to be shared, we may or may not have finished an entire one by ourselves—and we'd do it again. This perfect summertime dessert layers New York-style cheesecake with a vanilla cake layer and Bavarian banana cream. The final flourish of Vanilla Wafers really adds that banana pudding vibe. No notes.

3. Cookies and Creme Brownies

Kenn C. Bivins

While these aren't made in-store, they taste like they could be. Rich brownies topped with cream cheese icing and covered with crushed chocolate cookies? Sign us up!

4. Mini Croissants

Kenn C. Bivins

We'll be honest and say that these aren't the same as getting a croissant in the South of France, but they're one of the most underrated items in the Publix Bakery and should definitely be on your list. The best thing about these is their versatility. You can slice and stuff them to make mini sandwiches, dip them into your morning coffee, or even use them as the base for a casserole or bread pudding. What's not to love?

7. Berry Chantilly Cake

Kenn C. Bivins

If you've never had the Berry Chantilly Cake at Publix, we suggest you drop everything and get one right now. It's truly life-changing. This cake is a true crowd pleaser, and by crowd, we mean ourselves. Three layers of vanilla and almond cake get layered with a mascarpone Chantilly dessert cream, seedless raspberry filling and whipped vanilla topping. Fresh glazed berries finish the cake off, and honestly, we need a minute. Best of all, if a whole cake is too much for you, you can also grab individual slices.

6. White Mountain Sandwich Bread

Kenn C. Bivins

Even though most people focus on Publix's sweets, don't sleep on the bread section. Not only can you find a variety of loaves for whatever you need, but you'll also come across the storied White Mountain Sandwich Bread, which is perfect for grilled cheese. You'll thank us later.

7. Berry Chantilly Tres Leches

Kenn C. Bivins

Berry Chantilly Tres Leches. Enough said. While there's no replacing the original cake format, this tres leches might just come close. Not only does it highlight the same mouthwatering flavors, but it's meant to be eaten cold, which makes it all the more refreshing. Run, don't walk.

8. Cinnamon Fry Doughnuts

Kenn C. Bivins

If Publix Cinnamon Fry Doughnuts aren't already in your consistent sweet treat rotation, they should be. Truly, this is one of the hidden gems in the Publix Bakery. It's like a honey bun, a cinnamon roll, and a doughnut had a baby, and the result was a perfect dessert. Whether you enjoy one for breakfast, after lunch or as a late-night snack (or all three), you won't be disappointed.

9. Lemon Loaf Cake

Kenn C. Bivins

Sure, you can go to Starbucks and get a slice of Iced Lemon Pound Cake for $5, or you could just grab Publix's Lemon Loaf Cake and get a whopping eight slices for $7. By the numbers, that's less than $1 per piece at Publix, which works out to more money in your pocket. Not to mention it's truly delicious.

10. Gourmet Cinnamon Buns

Kenn C. Bivins

Cinnamon Buns with no icing might be controversial, but just trust us on this one. These perfect morsels are made to be warmed up and eaten with coffee, and they're great even without the icing. Of course, if you're a cinnamon bun purist, they've got some with icing, too, and even maple-flavored ones. You'll definitely want to add these to your cart.

11. Mini Muffins

Kenn C. Bivins

If nothing else, make sure to grab the Mini Muffins at Publix. They're the perfect little bite when you need something sweet, and they're great to bring to the office as a treat. Not to mention they're so small you can eat several at one time, and no one will judge you. We call that a win.

12. Free Cookies

Kenn C. Bivins

Last but certainly not least is the Free Cookies. To be fair, these are supposed to be meant for the kiddos, but depending on the person behind the counter, you might be able to snag one for yourself. You know, just to hold you over until you get home and dig into that Banana Cream Cheesecake. We'll take it!

3 Publix Bakery Items To Skip

To be fair, there really aren't any bad items in the Publix Bakery, and choosing which ones to skip was a pretty lofty task. With that being said, there are a few things that just don't offer the same je ne sais quoi as some of Publix's other baked goods. Here are the three Publix Bakery items to skip.

1. Cheddar Herb Biscuits

Kenn C. Bivins

While these could be compared to Red Lobster's famous Cheddar Bay Biscuits, these are a bit underwhelming. You should definitely warm them up if you get them, but they're still a bit drier than we'd like. We recommend saving your money on these and getting something else instead.

2. Strawberry Pie Pockets

Kenn C. Bivins

Although these aren't terrible, they're not anything to rave about either. Compared to the turnovers and full-sized pies, these just didn't do much for us. We'll stick to the Dutch Apple Pie instead.

3. Toaster Muffin Tops

Kenn C. Bivins

Personally, if we want a muffin, we'd rather have a whole muffin than just the muffin top. While these are good, warmed up and slathered with butter or jam, there are better options.

Charlize Theron Shares Deeply Personal Story of Night Her Mother Killed Her Father

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 3:21pm

Charlize Theron has long spoken about the night her mother killed her father in self-defense. But in a recent conversation with The New York Times’ The Interview, the Oscar-winning actor revisits the moment with a level of detail — and clarity — that still resonates decades later.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

View this post on Instagram

The night started simply enough. Theron, 15 at the time, and her mother had just returned home from a movie, but the steel door to their house was locked — a precaution, she explains, was due to her country being gripped by violence.

“Every room in our house had a steel door … because that’s the kind of violence that we were living in,” Theron, now 50, says. “Our country was on the brink of civil war.”

They went instead to her uncle’s house, where her father was drinking — nothing unusual, she recalls. But on the way home, something felt off. Theron then told her mother something she had never said before: that she should leave him.

“I had never imagined that those words would come out of my mouth,” she says. “Leaving that house, I knew something was just different. She knew it, too.”

Later that night, fear set in.

“I went to bed thinking something bad was going to happen,” Theron recalls.

It did. Her father broke into the house, firing through the steel doors.

“He made it very clear that he was going to kill us,” she says.

Theron and her mother hid in Theron’s bedroom, bracing themselves against the door as bullets came through it. Miraculously, they were left unscathed.

“And this is the crazy thing: Not one bullet hit us.”

As her father moved to retrieve more weapons, her mother opened the door and fired.

“She shot one bullet down the hallway,” Theron says, which hit her uncle in the hand, “and then she followed my father … and she shot him.”

In the years since, Theron has spoken openly about the trauma — not as something that defines her, but as something that connects her to others.

“I think these things should be talked about,” she says. “It makes other people not feel alone.”

The interview includes more insight into the childhood of the mom of two, how she has worked to prevent violence against women and girls, and her new film Apex, an action thriller co-starring Taron Egerton.

‘The Pitt’ Season 2 Finale Teased Season 3’s Emotional Theme

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 3:18pm

Season 2 of the medical show sent our doctors in different directions. Dr. Samira Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) and others are leaving the emergency room behind to focus on a different specialty.

The Pitt's finale had a clear message about medical professionals needing an outlet for their mental health. Showrunner R. Scott Gemmill spoke about how that theme will continue next season.

‘The Pitt’ Season 3 Will Focus on Mental Health Taylor Dearden and Isa Briones on 'The Pitt'

HBO Max

Dr. Robby Robinavitch (Noah Wyle) spoke all season about his plan to take a break from the hospital to ride on his motorcycle. The finale showed him irritated at his coworkers and feeling like the emergency room wouldn't go on without him.

"Hopefully, season three is all about that mental health journey and seeing him finally admitting to needing help and seeking it out and setting himself as an example of what should be done when one is struggling," Gemmill told The Hollywood Reporter. "As opposed to what we’ve seen in the last two seasons, which is what you shouldn’t do and just shutting it down."

Other characters had better ways of coping. Whitaker (Gerran Howell) happily drove home with his girlfriend, playing music for her baby in the backseat. Santos (Isa Briones) invited King (Taylor Dearden) to scream their stress out through karaoke. Javadi (Shabana Azeez) also realized she might want to focus on mental health.

The Pitt Season 2, is available to stream on HBO Max. Season 3 is expected to premiere in January 2027.

Psychologist Says the Most ‘Magnetic’ People in a Room Actually Do These 9 Things

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 2:11pm

Some people can walk into any room and light it up. People gravitate toward them like moths to a light or metal to a magnet. In truth, one psychologist says that some people do actually have "magnetic" personalities.

"A magnetic person has characteristics that make them engaging, emotionally present and capable of creating feelings of deep connection," explains Dr. Craig Kain, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist. "They are people who, with no effort on their part, have the ability to make us feel important and understood."

He adds that magnetic types make people feel at ease. Unsurprisingly, others look forward to seeing magnetic people again. He also wants to emphasize the "ease" part of this personality.

"Being magnetic is just their natural way of being," he explains. "They do, on the whole, have an easier time navigating the challenging world of personal and social relationships. They have an easier time making friends and make great team players. They are highly valued in work settings that require strong relationship skills."

Dr. Kain says that magnetic people maintain certain habits and relationship skills as they move through the world. It's also possible to become someone who others gravitate towards, if you don't already possess these qualities. Below, the psychologist shares nine things the most magnetic people in rooms actually do and more.

Related: People With ‘Quiet Confidence’ Often Use These 17 Phrases, According to Psychologists

What Causes a Person To Be Magnetic?

People become magnetic because they have certain core values and characteristics, Dr. Kain says.

"Personal magnetism is created when someone has the ability to be fully present in the moment—not an easy task," he says. "This presence is the expression of vulnerability, emotional understanding and genuine interest in others."

Some people are born magnetic. However, magnetism can be an acquired trait, if you will

"It is an ability that can be innate or learned through interactions that foster the development of emotional intelligence and empathy," he shares.

Nice vs. Magnetic: What's the Difference?

10'000 Hours/Getty Images

"As simplistic as this may be, nice people are people who do nice things," Dr. Kain states.

Digging deeper, he shares that nice folks act considerate and helpful—there's nothing wrong with that (as long as you're not people-pleasing). But being "nice" is different than being magnetic.

"Generally speaking, they don’t evoke negative feelings and are enjoyable and pleasant to be around," he says. "Magnetic people’s emphasis is not on what they do but on who they are. They have the unique ability to make us feel at ease, listened to with great interest and appreciated for who we are."

Related: Psychologist Says if You Have These 8 Habits, You Are Highly Emotionally Mature

Magnetic vs. Narcissist: What's the Difference?

Dr. Kain has a stark warning: Sometimes, we can mistake magnetic types for full-blown narcissists.

"Narcissists can be extremely charismatic in a way that draws us to them," the psychologist says. "But they do so for their own benefit. When all is said and done, they are more interested in themselves than us."

He sees magnetic people differently.

"People with magnetic personalities are magnetic because they are interested in others," he explains. "Rather than take as the narcissist does, they give of themselves, their time, their energy and their attention."

Related: 8 Things ‘Highly Perceptive’ People Instantly Notice About Others, According to a Psychologist

9 Things Magnetic People Do on a Regular Basis, According to a Psychologist 1. They listen with genuine interest

We may peg people with magnetic personalities as "great talkers." Yet, Dr. Kain shares that magnetic people are actually pros at listening.

"We feel good when people listen to us with interest and understand what we are saying and who we are," he points out. "Magnetic people are exceptionally skilled at this. They listen to us and think about what we’re saying, not about what they are going to say next."

2. They regularly make eye contact

Dr. Kain says magnetic people are keenly aware of the power of eye contact.

"They have the ability to look into our eyes and not be distracted by other people or other things when they are with us," he states. "Similarly, they have the ability to allow us to look into their eyes without turning away."

3. They stay comfortable in their own skin

This one shows that confidence and appearance are very much an inside-out affair.

"Magnetic people are comfortable in their own skin," Dr. Kain says. "What they wear, their body language and the energy they exude all convey how at ease they are with whom they are."

In other words, magnetic people feel confident inside, and that shows up externally, according to the psychologist.

4. They show and share passion

When a magnetic person is passionate about something, Dr. Kain says you can expect them to share details rather than generic descriptions.

"Because of the magnetic person’s enthusiasm, we find them engaging and can often be drawn into a conversation about something we knew very little about when they first began sharing," he explains.

5. They're lifelong growers and learners

Dr. Kain says that folks with magnetic personalities know that school didn't end when they turned their tassel. Instead, they constantly learn and evolve.

"They seek out new experiences or deepen their understanding of subjects they already know about," Dr. Kain notes. "Because of this, they are interesting in new ways each time we meet them, allowing us to continually look forward to being with them again."

He adds that magnetic people are generous with their knowledge, happily sharing it in a way that doesn't come off as patronizing.

6. They smile a lot

Yep, it's that simple sometimes.

"Because they enjoy what they are doing and enjoy being around others, it is easy for them to smile," Dr. Kain explains. "Their smiles are not forced but genuine, stemming from their enjoyment of whatever they are engaged in."

7. They balance humility with confidence

Dr. Kain describes magnetic people as "right-sized."

"They do not think too highly of themselves, nor do they present themselves as less than they are, implicitly asking us to reassure them of their worth," he states. "They share credit when credit is due, acknowledging that they are a product of the assistance of others and their own self-efforts. They embody humility."

8. They put others first

Magnetic people aren't martyrs, but they don't do life solely for themselves.

"Magnetic people put others first," Dr. Kain says. "They show genuine interest in who we are and what we are doing. They don’t interrupt us to tell us about themselves. They don’t redirect conversations to what they want to say next."

Instead, he says these people recognize we have a need and (when appropriate) see it as just as important (if not more so) as their own.

"In fact, magnetic people are often great at anticipating our needs, thus contributing to our desire to be with them," he adds.

9. They remember details and ask follow-up questions

This one helps others feel seen and validated. Dr. Kain says magnetic people are present and listen with interest rather than distractions, helping them remember details of conversations.

"When engaged in a conversation, they ask follow-up questions, encouraging us to open up," he shares. "Magnetic people respond to our openness in-kind, thus creating a self-reinforcing cycle of interest and intimacy where each party feels drawn to the other."

How To Become More Magnetic1. Learn emotional attunement

Dr. Kain says this step requires noticing and responding to someone else's body language and tone of voice. You'll hear what they're saying and pick up on what they are leaving out.

"Emotional attunement requires empathy, the ability to understand another person’s experience as they understand it, not as we would," he explains. "Learning to pay attention to other people’s body language is a good way to begin learning emotional attunement. As a starting point, practice observing others by really looking and listening."

2. Learn to be a good listener

Real talk: "Most of us half-listen to what others are saying," Dr. Kain says. "The other half we spend thinking about ourselves and how we are going to respond to what they are saying."

He states that when we listen without focusing on responding, we're more able to stay fully present.

"After we’ve practiced good listening, we can practice reflecting on what we heard, particularly any emotions expressed," he explains. "It’s important to sound genuine when reflecting, so avoiding phrases like, 'I hear you saying...' is a good idea."

Instead, try a more appealing phrase, such as, "You seem happy to have finished your project. I can remember you telling me how stressful it was."

Related: 9 Subtle Self-Defeating Habits You Might Not Even Realize You’re Doing, a Psychologist Warns

3. Express appreciation and admiration

Dr. Kain says that, once you've mastered good listening skills, you can move on to expressing appreciation and admiration.

"It makes us feel good to be appreciated and admired, and magnetic people are good at doing just that," he states. "Find something in what someone tells you to appreciate  and let them know it’s the case."

The psychologist suggests practicing using the phrase, “I really appreciate...” For example, you might say, “I really appreciate how hard you worked to shepherd this project to completion.”

"People who make others feel valued are people others are drawn to," he adds.

4. Become more comfortable with yourself

It's important to find yourself worth gravitating towards in the first place.

"Work on becoming more comfortable with yourself," Dr. Kain recommends. "Use journaling to identify your traits, strengths, thoughts and feelings."

Dr. Kain adds it's a good idea to try to take a non-judgmental stance with yourself.

"The goal is self-acceptance—becoming more comfortable in your own skin—not self-advancement," he states. "If that proves difficult, working with a therapist could prove useful."

Final Takeaways

It's not just in your head—some people really are magnetic. And you can become one. Here's what to keep in mind:

  • Magnetic people are engaging, emotionally present and connected. They make others feel at ease and confident, so people naturally want to be around them.
  • Magnetism is a state of being, not doing. It's different than "being nice, which involves doing nice things.
  • Don't confuse magnetism with narcissism. Magnetic types want to lift others up. Narcissists are only in it for themselves.
  • Magnetic people do certain things consistently. People with magnetism prioritize continual growth, others' feelings and active listening.
  • Maybe you're born with magnetism (or not). Some people are naturally magnetic, but you can develop this trait over time by practicing emotional attunement and working on listening skills.

X-Files Fans Have Spoken on the Best Episodes — and Two Are Tied at the Top

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 1:43pm

Thirty-plus years after its 1993 premiere, The X-Files still draws strong opinions from its fan base, and those opinions are quantified in real time on IMDB, where all 218 episodes carry user ratings. The data tells a clear story, and it's not always the alien mythology-heavy episodes that dominate.

Bad Blood (Season 5, Episode 12) — 9.2 Written by Vince Gilligan, this 1998 episode tops the list. Mulder and Scully give Skinner wildly conflicting accounts of a vampire investigation gone wrong in rural Texas. Gillian Anderson has called it her favorite episode of the series. It holds a 9.2 on IMDB.

Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose (Season 3, Episode 4) — 9.2 Also rated 9.2, this Darin Morgan-penned episode from 1995 features Peter Boyle as a reluctant psychic who can only foresee how people will die. It won two Emmy Awards, Outstanding Guest Actor for Boyle and Outstanding Writing for Morgan.

Those two episodes share the top spot. IMDB breaks the tie by vote count, giving Bad Blood the edge.

Paper Clip (Season 3, Episode 2) — 9.0The conclusion to the Anasazi trilogy, this mythology episode ties Mulder's father to Operation Paperclip, the post-WWII program that brought Nazi scientists to the United States, and to the alien conspiracy at the heart of the series.

Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man (Season 4, Episode 7) — 9.0 A rare episode that sidelines Mulder and Scully almost entirely, this one constructs an origin story for the series' central villain, implicating him in the assassinations of both JFK and Martin Luther King Jr., framed as a possibly unreliable account.

Redux II (Season 5, Episode 3) — 9.0 The resolution of the Gethsemane arc, centered on Scully's cancer diagnosis and Mulder's fracturing belief system. Three episodes tied at 9.0; IMDB's vote counts determine their order on the list.

Related: Does a Real-Life 'X-Files' Exist? 'The Public Has Been Lied To'

The Erlenmeyer Flask (Season 1, Episode 24) — 9.0 The Season 1 finale delivers actual evidence of government experimentation with alien DNA, then takes it away. It set the template for what the mythology episodes could accomplish.

Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space' (Season 3, Episode 20) — 8.9 Another Darin Morgan episode, structured as a Rashomon-style UFO investigation filtered through an author writing a nonfiction novel. Among the most formally inventive hours the show produced.

Small Potatoes (Season 4, Episode 20) — 8.9 Vince Gilligan again. A shape-shifter impersonates Mulder and nearly gets away with it. Lighter in tone, but consistently ranked among the series' best.

Dreamland II (Season 6, Episode 5) — 8.8 The second half of a body-swap story set at Area 51. Michael McKean plays a Man in Black who has switched bodies with Mulder. Leans heavily comedic.

Home (Season 4, Episode 2) — 8.8The most tonally severe entry on this list. So disturbing it was banned from rebroadcast on Fox after its 1996 premiere. Its reputation has only grown since.

Seven of the top 10 come from Seasons 3 through 5, the period widely regarded as the show's creative peak. Three episodes were written by Vince Gilligan, two by Darin Morgan.

The Silent Warning Sign of Fatty Liver Disease Women Over 50 Constantly Miss

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 1:25pm

Most people know that drinking alcohol in excess is taxing on the liver. But what you may not realize is that excess fat can be just as detrimental. According to a report published in BMC Gastroenterology, 40% of U.S. adults between the ages of 60 and 74 have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

“Fatty liver refers to the accumulation of fat in the liver,” says Dr. Sujit Janardhan, MD, PhD, a hepatologist at Rush University Medical Center who specializes in fatty liver disease. Dr. Janardhan explains that non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is caused by metabolic dysfunction, such as obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Related: One Common Habit That Could Be Damaging Your Liver, According to a Gastroenterologist

Dr. Giuseppi Morelli, MD, a gastroenterologist with East Jefferson General Hospital, University Medical Center New Orleans who specializes in liver disease, says that age is a risk factor for developing fatty liver disease, explaining, “Risk peaks in the 40s and 50s and continues to be high for several different reasons."

These reasons include metabolic changes (according to Dr. Morelli, aging often comes with increased insulin resistance and more visceral fat, which is more toxic to the liver), decreased liver volume (he says the liver naturally loses about one-third of its volume and blood flow as we age, making it less efficient at detoxifying) and hormonal changes that can trigger more fat storage. These hormonal changes are directly related to an increased risk of fatty liver disease in postmenopausal women.

If fatty liver disease is left untreated, both doctors say it increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attack, stroke and liver failure. This is why it’s so important to catch and treat fatty liver disease early. Here’s how to do exactly that, according to both doctors.

Fatty liver disease develops slowly over time, often without someone even noticing. Dr. Morelli calls it a “silent disease” because it often doesn’t have any early symptoms. “Most people only find out they have it through routine blood tests that show elevated liver enzymes or imaging tests, like an ultrasound, done for other reasons,” he explains.

That said, both doctors say that there is an early symptom that often goes undetected. “When symptoms do appear, the very first is often unexplained fatigue or a general sense of weakness,” Dr. Morelli explains.

Dr. Janardhan adds that fatigue is an early symptom of fatty liver disease, sharing, “Symptoms are very mild and often quite nonspecific. The most common complaint is fatigue, which is obviously something many of us feel day to day."

He explains that the reason fatty liver disease can cause fatigue is that the liver has become less efficient at converting food to energy.

Related: This Is the Very Worst Food for Liver Health, According to Dietitians

Other Early Signs of Fatty Liver Disease

In addition to fatigue, Dr. Janardhan says that some people also report feeling a fullness or dull ache in the right upper abdomen, which can be caused by an enlarged liver that sometimes gets worse when lying on or leaning to the right side or bending over. If you are experiencing these symptoms, both doctors recommend seeing your healthcare provider as soon as possible.

As fatty liver disease becomes more severe, both doctors say that symptoms can include yellowing of the skin or eyes, swelling in the legs or abdomen, itchy skin or spider-like blood vessels on the skin, brain fog and unexplained muscle loss.

“Treatment options are more limited for these patients, which is why it is important to focus on identifying risk factors and screening earlier,” Dr. Janardhan says.

Ways To Lower Your Risk if You’re 50 and Older

Ready for the good news? You can significantly lower your risk of fatty liver disease and even reverse it if you already have it.

“The best way to prevent metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease is to maintain a healthy lifestyle with diet and exercise. The goal is to prevent the metabolic conditions that cause liver fat,” Dr. Janardhan tells Parade. The first step is working with your healthcare provider to manage any existing medical conditions.

In terms of diet, both doctors recommend following a Mediterranean diet-style eating plan, which includes high-fiber plant-based foods, plant- or fish-based proteins and moderate amounts of healthy fats. Additionally, Dr. Morelli recommends limiting alcohol and sugar consumption, both primary drivers of fatty liver disease.

“Exercise should include both aerobic activity and strength training,” Dr. Janardhan adds. Dr. Morelli says this too, recommending aiming for 150 minutes of physical activity a week.

While both doctors say that, ideally, these habits are in place before 50, it’s never too late to adopt them. “Losing even 3% to 5% of body weight can reduce liver fat; losing 7% to 10% of body weight can actually reverse scarring,” Dr. Morelli explains.

The consequences of fatty liver disease are life-threatening but can be avoided by working with your healthcare provider to manage any existing obesity-related health conditions and having healthy habits in place. Remember, it’s never too late to start prioritizing your health. Fatty liver can be prevented and even reversed!

The neutral ceramic finish works with a wide range of home decor styles, from modern farmhouse to cozy contemporary. Even left empty, these vases function as sculptural statement pieces.

Because they come in three distinct styles, shoppers can choose the look that best fits their space. The smooth version leans modern and minimal. The ribbed option adds dimension and visual interest. The handled style brings in a hint of Mediterranean or rustic charm.

How to Style Oversized Ceramic Vases at Home

These giant ceramic vases are versatile enough to work year-round with just a simple swap of fillers. For dramatic height, try tall branches like curly willow, eucalyptus, magnolia or olive. A good rule of thumb is to choose stems that are roughly twice the height of the vase for balanced proportions.

If you prefer a softer look, dried botanicals such as pampas grass, cotton stems or wheat stalks add texture and warmth. For a fresh feel, oversized monstera leaves, palm fronds or seasonal greenery can instantly brighten a space.

You can even get creative with unexpected fillers. Fairy lights add a cozy glow, while tall feathers bring a bohemian edge. Throughout the year, swap in spring blossoms, summer sunflowers, autumn eucalyptus or winter cedar to keep your home decor feeling current.

For $23.99, this Costco home find delivers the kind of style you'd expect from Crate & Barrel or Pottery Barn, without the designer price tag.

Terry Crews' Daughter Takes Credit for 'Manifesting' His Shirtless Coachella Appearance

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 1:18pm

Terry Crews' second-oldest child, daughter Azriél Patricia, is taking credit for getting him onstage at Coachella on April 17! The 35-year-old insisted it was her public plea to get him (and herself) to the music festival that led to Sabrina Carpenter bringing him onstage as part of her Weekend 2 performance.

"Speak your s--t into the universe y'all! Last week I posted that me and my dad
@terrycrews should’ve been at Coachella and a week later, Sabrina Carpenter invited him to do a bit in her show and we all got to come," she posted on Threads, adding that Carpenter's team actually hadn't seen her post and chalking it up to pure manifestation. "So… start saying what you want, and calling it forth! Next I’d like ten million dollars please!"

View this post on Instagram

Just five days earlier, the self-proclaimed "nepo baby" posted about how Vanessa Carlton performed "A Thousand Miles" with Teddy Swims Weekend 1. "If you rearrange some letters… Teddy Swims is basically @terrycrews. My dad," she wrote. "You missed an opportunity to fly out the nepo baby of the guy who culturally owns that song (me!)... Weekend 2 is right there. Just saying."

Crew donned the electrician uniformWill Ferrellrocked in Weekend 1, whipping off his shirt on stage and bringing back his nostalgic rendition of "A Thousand Miles," which he famously sang in 2004's White Chicks, before restoring power to the stage. Azriél was joined in the crowd by her mom and Crews' longtime wife, Rebecca King-Crews. The performance also featured Madonna and Geena Davis making surprise cameos.

Azriél couldn't help but poke a little fun at her father, sharing a video of his appearance with the caption, "Dad can’t stay shirted for one night. [eyeroll emoji href="https://parade.com/living/emoji-meanings"]." In another video, Crews can be seen sitting on a bus joking that he was "a star, always been a star, and this is what I've always deserved. I need to be on the stage!" while Azriél teased, "Alexa, play 'Manchild.'"

Fans, however, went crazy for the appearance. "Terry is a national treasure and I won’t hear anything else about it," wrote one in the comments, while another added, "HAHAHA LOVE IT the show was 10000x better with Terry!"

First Baby Born Through Surrogacy Celebrates Milestone 40th Birthday

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 12:55pm

Jill Brand — the first baby in the world to be born through gestational surrogacy — celebrated her milestone 40th birthday.

"When I was born, it's the first time in human history that a woman gave birth to a baby she had no genetic relationship to," Brand said during her first ever broadcast interview on Today.

Her mother, Sandy, had her fallopian tubes removed and was told she could not carry a child. Sandy and her husband would go on to adopt two daughters.

In 1978, however, when the first IVF baby was born in England, the couple decided to meet with the doctors to discuss their options.

Sandy got pregnant through IVF and gave birth to a baby girl via emergency C-section after her uterus ruptured. Tragically, the baby girl died at just two weeks old.

According to Today, Jill's father, Elliot — who tragically passed away last year — actually came up with the idea for gestational surrogacy, which Sandy originally called "crazy."

Jill Brand was born on April 13, 1986.

"For the first year of my life, there was a little bit of publicity. But then my mom really wanted a private life," she explained. "

The 4 Most Emotionally Strong Zodiac Signs

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 12:33pm

Emotional regulation is essential for staying calm during our interactions with the world, life, and others. When we master this skill, we find healing; when we struggle with it, even small issues can feel overwhelming. You might be surprised to learn that the zodiac signs Aries, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius are particularly adept at maintaining emotional composure and balance in tense situations. Their resilience allows them to create space for confusing and difficult feelings, enabling them to reframe negatives into positives.

Read below to find out more about the four most emotionally strong zodiac signs.

Which Zodiac Signs Are The Most Emotionally Resilient?

Aries and Sagittarius can be passionate, even fiery, but they don't struggle to let go and move on after conflicts. In fact, they are more inclined to repair relationships because they understand that life is imperfect and that everyone makes mistakes. In contrast, Libra and Aquarius, both air signs, tend to take a more detached approach to their emotions, allowing them to distance themselves when necessary. This broader perspective brings acceptance, foresight, and composure.

Aries

Aries is the first fire sign of the zodiac, which brings a strong sense of emotional strength. They are self-assured and possess a powerful strength, rarely coming across as weak. Like everyone else, they can sometimes become frustrated or hotheaded, leading to tantrums when they are angry. However, once they express their feelings, they tend to move on quickly and are ready to start fresh.

This approach to handling irritations is quite healthy, as the ram is typically open about their emotions and eager to resolve conflicts, preferring not to revisit them. As the warrior sign of the zodiac, Aries is resistant to manipulation and learns from past mistakes, focusing on moving forward. Occasionally, they do reflect on the past, but only to ensure they are evolving and growing from their experiences.

EXPAND: These 4 Zodiac Signs Carry Old-Soul Wisdom

Libra

Libra is represented by the scales of justice, which reflect their somewhat detached approach to emotions. They do not lack feelings; instead, they are mindful of how they express their thoughts, often doing so diplomatically. In terms of emotional strength, Libras rank among the strongest zodiac signs.

While others may perceive them as passive, they usually achieve their desires through charm and magnetism rather than through overt efforts or forceful egos. When faced with challenging situations, they tend to avoid conflict. As a result, they move intentionally to regulate their own emotions, those of others, and to find solutions that promote unity rather than create further division.

FUN!: Your American Soul City, Based on Your Birth Month

Sagittarius

Sagittarius individuals tend to embrace a "live and let live" philosophy, which means they rarely get caught up in drama. They understand the importance of being present, so they usually don't dwell on the past. People are often surprised by how quickly they can move on. If you’ve ever met a Sagittarius, you’ve likely experienced their tendency to focus on the here and now, often taking negative beliefs or complaints with a grain of salt.

Conflicts with a Sagittarius may become heated at times, but they are quick to forgive. Life is too short to be weighed down by negativity. Even if a conversation turns tense and hurtful words are exchanged, a Sagittarius is likely to let it slide and reconnect with others. They're optimists after all. They strive to see the best in people. Their emotional strength is impressive; you won't find a Sagittarius crying over spilled milk. Solution-oriented, they'll simply find an alternative route.

READ: Which Retro Candy Matches You, Based on Birth Date

Aquarius

As the last air sign of the zodiac, Aquarius often maintains a cool, calm, and collected demeanor. Avoiding conflict with others comes naturally. When disagreements arise, they tend to shrug them off or walk away. Instead of reacting to unpleasant words or inappropriate behavior, they focus their energy quickly on more important matters.

If someone stirs the pot, Aquarius feels as if that person's issue is their own, not their burden to take on. Expect them to continue their day as if nothing happened. On the downside, they may choose to ghost to avoid the awkwardness of difficult conversations. All in all, one can't argue with their emotional strength. While some may see their detachment as harsh, Aquarius views it as a necessary form of self-preservation. They are wise to establish boundaries and have the confidence to enforce them in their interpersonal relationships.

1983 Timeless Ballad, Named One of the 'Best Country Songs' of All Time, Never Made It to No. 1

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 12:30pm

George Straithas over 40 Billboard No. 1 hits, but surprisingly, "Amarillo by Morning" isn't one of them.

The 1982 country staple is one of Strait's only singles to not reach No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, instead peaking at No. 4.

But despite never earning the No. 1 spot on the charts, "Amarillo by Morning" is still regarded as a fan-favorite country track. It's even included on Rolling Stone's list of the 200 Greatest Country Songs of All Time, where it's ranked at No. 10. It's also included on Billboard's roundup of the 100 Best Country Songs of All Time, coming in at No. 17 on that list.

"Amarillo by Morning" was included on Strait's 1982 album Strait from the Heart, and later released as a single in January 1983. It debuted on the Hot Country Songs chart the next month, and later peaked at No. 4 in April of that year.

But Strait wasn't the original artist behind the rodeo-themed ballad. It was first recorded in 1973 by singer Terry Stafford, who co-wrote the track with Paul Fraser, though it was Strait's version that brought the song to the mainstream.

2012's 'Bring Up the Bodies' Named the 'Best Novel of the 21st Century'

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 12:25pm

It's not very often that a sequel manages to surpass the original. But as The Timessaw it, best-selling writer Hilary Mantel managed to truly outdo herself with the release of her critically acclaimed 2012 novel, Bring Up the Bodies.

The direct sequel to her equally popular 2009 novel Wolf Hall, Bring Up the Bodies acts as an historical drama that also kicks off Mantel's incredibly well-received Cromwell trilogy.

As with its earlier book and immediate follow-up (The Mirror & the Light), Mantel's book is set against the backdrop of King Henry VIII's reign in 16th century England.

Depicting the fictionalized rise of English minister Thomas Cromwell, the series focuses on the various controversies that character Henry's reign as king, most especially his six tumultuous marriages which included two divorces and two executions.

Writing about the remarkable quality of Mantel's prose, The Times admitted they originally had Wolf Hall as their pick for the best novel of the 21st century, only to settle on its sequel as the superior of the two works.

"Initially we had Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall in the top spot, and the first in her Thomas Cromwell trilogy is definitely in 'genius' territory, but we think Bring Up the Bodies is even better," The Times opined.

"As the wily Cromwell begins to plot against the queen, Mantel’s generous, expansive narrative grows sharp," the outlet continued. "She has done that almost impossible thing — to take a story that every child learns at school, and still make the reader thrum with suspense."

"Every word of the eventual execution scene is finely tuned but most powerful of all is the conclusion," The Times finished by saying, "as Cromwell comes to terms with his own mortality, and the likelihood that Henry will one day turn on him. 'There are no endings. If you think so you are deceived as to their nature. They are all beginnings. Here is one.'"
