World Market's 'Beautiful and Functional' Storage Bench Is So Perfect, You'll Want One in Every Room

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 6:55pm

Everyone loves a beautiful home, but keeping it that way is the eternal challenge. The entryway is often the most neglected area of the house, functioning as a high-traffic magnet for shoes, bags, mail and miscellaneous clutter. When the first space you see upon entering is chaotic, it can inadvertently impact your mood and mindset, creating an immediate sense of overwhelm before you even have a chance to settle in for the evening. Achieving a clean, inviting atmosphere requires more than just good intentions; it demands smart, intentional design choices that prioritize both form and function to keep daily mess at bay.

Modern interior design has shifted toward creating spaces that are as hardworking as they are stylish. The secret to a serene, organized home often lies in clever, hidden storage solutions that disappear into the background of your existing decor. By selecting furniture pieces that serve a dual purpose—providing a comfortable surface for daily tasks while keeping the surrounding area tidy—you can significantly improve your home's natural flow. Investing in high-quality, multipurpose furnishings is the most effective way to eliminate visual noise and curate a living environment that feels intentional, cohesive, and endlessly welcoming.

How Much Was a Coke From McDonald's When It Opened in April 1955?

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 6:45pm

It's hard to name an American icon more recognizable than McDonald's. You can spot the logo from miles away; those crispy golden fries are practically embedded into our taste buds, and when you need a cheap meal fast, they've always got you covered. Whether you're craving a burger and fries, those tasty nuggets dipped in sauce, or you're just stress-testing whether the ice cream machine is actually working today, we can count on Mickey D's to be a beacon of shining golden arches no matter the occasion.

But despite its enduring status as the brand that helped create the fast-food industry as we know it today, McDonald's has consistently sought to keep value at the forefront. In a sea of $14 burgers with fries sold separately, Mickey D's is all about making sure you get your money's worth, even if it's not as cheap as it used to be. With that in mind, let's take a stroll down memory lane and look at McDonald's in its early days to see how much something as simple as a Coke would've cost in 1955 compared to today. Fair warning, the price jump is drastic.

When Did McDonald's Open Its First Restaurant?

The first McDonald's location was opened on May 15, 1940, by brothers Ray and Maurice McDonald. After failing to make it in Hollywood, the duo decided to pivot to the food business, and the rest, as they say, is history. What began as a humble barbecue carhop slinging out 15-cent burgers went on to become one of the most recognizable restaurant brands ever. Beyond just focusing on the food, though, the brothers made a point of considering that customers would appreciate getting their food fast and set about creating the "Speedee Service System" that would revolutionize the entire industry.

Where Was McDonald's First Restaurant?

This is where the McDonald's story often gets confused. The first McDonald's location was at 1398 North E St., San Bernardino, Calif., and it now operates as a free McDonald's museum. Despite that fact, some people mistakenly believe that the first location opened in Des Plaines, Ill., on April 15, 1955. The reason for the mix-up can be traced back to milkshake mixer salesman-turned-business mogul, Ray Kroc. According to the lore, Kroc was so taken by the McDonald's concept that he decided to become a franchise agent for the brand, helping to secure deals that would solidify Mickey D's future as an American icon.

The enterprising salesman eventually bought the brothers out of the business entirely in 1961 for $2.7 million, which, adjusted for inflation, would be around $30 million today. As part of the deal, the McDonald brothers kept the original San Bernardino location, but because Kroc owned the rights to the McDonald's name, they had to rename it The Big M. Ray then opened a McDonald's location nearby, effectively forcing them to shut down.

How Much Was a Soft Drink at McDonald's in 1955?

If you've been to McDonald's at all in recent years, then you're well aware that prices aren't the same as they used to be—especially not in 1955. Back then, you could get a seven-ounce soft drink from McDonald's for a meager 10 cents. Yep, you read that right. For the low cost of just a dime, you could get a Coke, Orangeade, root beer, milk or coffee. You could also upgrade to a milkshake for an additional 10 cents. In today's money, that would equate to roughly $1.23 for a soft drink or about $2.46 for a milkshake.

How Much Was a Meal at McDonald's in 1955?

lightman_pic / Shutterstock.com

Although you're probably still reeling over the soft drink prices, the price of a full meal at McDonald's in 1955 might throw you for an even bigger loop. Considering the prices of the restaurant at the time, you could get a cheeseburger, fries, and a drink for just about 39 cents. You quite literally won't find a deal like that anywhere today. Translated into today's prices, that would be about $4.81.

On the bright side, McDonald's recently brought back its $5 meal deal, which gets you either a McChicken, McDouble, or four-piece nuggets, a small fry and a small drink. Not exactly 1955 prices, but we'll take it.

How Much Is a Soft Drink at McDonald's in 2026?

If you've made it this far, we'd like to reiterate the earlier warning that the price jump might stun you. Ready? Here it goes. A soft drink at McDonald's today can cost anywhere between $1.19 to $3.19, depending on the size you get. To put that into perspective, on the low end, $1.19 would have been approximately $14.66 in 1955, which could've bought anywhere between 20 and 30 McDonald's meals at the time. Talk about a major increase.

In the ever-prevalent words of DJ Khaled, "Yesterday's price is not today's price." At least he wasn't wrong. Unfortunately, the days of getting a meal for less than $1 are long gone, but McDonald's is still one of the cheaper fast-food chains. And honestly, with prices so all over the place these days, we'll take what we can get.

The couple attended the New York City premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2 on April 20, according to E! News. Palvin, 32, revealed humor has kept them in better spirits. "It's dealing with the trauma with jokes and fun," the actress said.

"We're laughing about things the moment they happen," Sprouse, 33, added. "You got to have levity in life. Thankfully, no one was hurt and there was no more violence than what happened. So, it's all OK."

The actor claimed he wanted to make a video joking about his karate skills. Palvin talked him out of it.

TMZ reported that Palvin called 911 to report an attempted burglary. Sprouse reportedly pulled out his gun at the trespasser so he could tackle him. The Suite Life of Zack & Codystar put the gun back into a holster, according to officers. The unidentified man was arrested for outstanding warrants.

Sprouse and Palvin got married in July of 2023. They met six years before that at an event. Realtor.com claims they live in a 1,700-square-foot home with our bedrooms and two bathrooms. The property also has an eight-car garage. The home is reportedly worth $2 million.

Sprouse was in a 2025 movie called Neglected with Josh Duhamel. Palvin continues to model.

1987 Hit Film Was Just Ranked the 'Greatest Romantasy Movie' of All Time

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 6:24pm

Romantasy has become increasingly popular in the world of cinema, and it shouldn't come as a surprise. After all, fantasy stories with plenty of romantic moments usually make for an incredible movie experience.

The publicationColliderrecently released a list of the "10 greatest romantasy movies of all time." The ranking, published on April 10, featured swoon-worthy fantasy films, like 2007's Stardust, The Shape of Water from 2017, Shrek from 2001, and 1990's Edward Scissorhands.

Rob Reiner's 1987 epic The Princess Bride, starring Cary Elwes and Robin Wright as the iconic couple Westley and Princess Buttercup, was deemed by Collider as the greatest romantasy film ever made.

The Princess Bride has a score of 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed a total of $31,046,458 worldwide, per Box Office Mojo.

Rob Reiner Discussed How the 'Princess Bride' Movie Ended up Getting Made

In a 2004 interview with The Television Academy Foundation, Reiner, who died in December 2025 at the age of 78, shared how he was able to adapt William Goldman's 1973 novel, The Princess Bride.

Reiner said that while he was finishing up production of his 1985 film, The Sure Thing, he decided that he wanted to take a shot at making a Princess Bride movie. According to Reiner, he had been a long-time fan of the novel and Goldman's other works.

"I love that book and I went and read it again, I said, 'Wow it's still fabulous.' It is just the hippest smartest funniest book ever. And it combined all these sensibilities, you know, satire and adventure and romance," said Reiner in the interview.

After finding out that other directors had already tried to adapt the 1973 fantasy novel, Reiner requested to meet with Goldman. According to Reiner, Goldman, who died in 2018, agreed to "take a meeting" with him after watching his 1984 mockumentary, This Is Spinal Tap, and a "rough cut" of The Sure Thing.

During the meeting, held at Goldman's apartment, Reiner told the author "what [he] felt was the essence of his book" and "what [he] thought should be done for the film." Reiner said Goldman was delighted by their conversation and agreed to let him make a Princess Bride movie.

Reiner also said that while the film received "great reviews," it wasn't a box office hit. He then clarified that he's well aware that the film eventually became quite beloved.

"It did okay at the box office but it didn't do what I felt it should have done. And again it's one of those movies that's gained in status over the years," said the late director in the 2004 interview.

Breyers’ New Candy-Inspired Flavors Have Fans Talking

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 6:07pm

Breyers looks to be expanding its lineup of frozen treats with two new chocolatey, candy-inspired flavors.

On Monday, the century-old ice cream maker officially unveiled an all-new way to enjoy the classic flavors of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups with its CarbSmart Reese's Bar. The newcomer offers a "kid in a candy shop" feeling, with fewer calories, carbs and sugar than traditional frozen desserts.

Ironically, that same day, eagle-eyed shoppers spotted another chocolate bar reimagining in the freezer aisle, but this one isn't part of the company's "healthier" offers. Joining its regular line of frozen dairy desserts is the new Breyers x Almond Joy Pint.

Breyers Debuts New Reese's Peanut Butter Swirl CarbSmart Bar and Fans 'Need' It

According to an official description, Breyers' new Reese's Peanut Butter Swirl CarbSmart is made with Reese’s peanut butter to recreate the savory base as a creamy dessert, adding chocolate swirls and a shell to really drive home the combination.

With fewer calories, carbs, and sugar, it offers all the iconic Reese's flavor "without the guilt," so Breyers says.

The new flavor looks to have started arriving at retailers a few weeks ago, with one reviewer calling it a "Good flavor overall," noting that it "could use a bit more peanut butter," but it's "nice to have something new!"

"MY FAVORITE," another shared on Instagram.

"I NEED 🙌," one more declared.

It is currently available at select retailers, including Food Lion, Giant, ShopRite and Stop & Shop (prices vary).

Shoppers Spot New Almond Joy-Flavored Breyers in Stores, and Most Say It 'Looks Sooo Good'

As for that new pint-sized flavor, Breyers "pays homage to an iconic American favorite," according to an official description.

Inspired by the flavors of the classic candy bar, the recently added frozen treat features creamy coconut-flavored ice cream with swirls of rich fudge ribbons and crunchy chocolate-coated almonds. Breyers' website calls it "a flavor combo bound to have you reaching for seconds and thirds."

View this post on Instagram

"Omg I love almond joy they are underrated 😋🤤," one fan cheered about the new find, as a second gushed, "I'll be on the lookout!"

A third squealed in disbelief, "Shut up!"

A few more lamented the brand's decision to roll out a new frozen dairy dessert rather than an ice cream flavor, with one simply groaning, "Dairy dessert ugh."

"Looks sooo good but it’s creepy how rare it’s becoming to see ice cream on the label," a second pointed out. "Frozen dairy dessert sounds like cold chemical dessert. I’m still gonna want to try this tho 🤣."

"If it actually had almond joy candy - would’ve been absolute yes," someone else suggested, before another echoed, "Should [have] added pieces of actual candies."

So far, the new frozen treat has been spotted at select 7-Eleven and Family Dollar stores (prices vary) and doesn't look to be exclusive to any one retailer. It does appear to be in the very early stages of its rollout, though, so if it's not available near you just yet, check in with the Breyers x Almond Joy product locator in a couple of weeks.

Parade reached out to Breyers for comment.

Aldi's New Garden Decor Is a Whimsical Springtime Addition for Any Home

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 6:05pm

I have to admit, I didn't even know rain chains were a thing until recently, and now I'm kind of obsessed. How did I go this long without realizing you could swap out a basic downspout for something that actually looks charming? I'm going to give myself a little grace here because I do live in a desert climate where rain isn't exactly something I experience that often. But still, rain chains just make those rare rainy days even better.

Here's the deal: Instead of water just rushing down a plain pipe, a rain chain lets it trickle down in the prettiest, almost mesmerizing way. It turns a rainy day into a whole little moment.

Belavi Rain Chain, $9.99 at Aldi

Aldi

Over at Aldi, the grocery chain has the sweetest Belavi Rain Chains in its Aldi Finds aisle for $9.99 each. You can choose from three different themes: bird, mushroom and flower. They're 74 inches long, which seems to be the standard for this patio accessory, and, with its iron construction, they attach to gutters, porches or garden pergolas pretty easily. Not only do you get this really soothing waterfall effect when it rains, but it also creates a bit of an auditory experience as well.

Related: Aldi Shoppers Are Obsessed With This $8 Mommy and Me Mug Set Perfect for Mother's Day

At most other retailers, you'll see rain chains priced closer to $30, if not more, so Aldi's version is a great deal. For example, a Blue and Copper Patina Metal Heart and Bell Rain Chain at World Market costs $29.99 and is actually four inches shorter than the Aldi variety.

Whether you hang one off your porch, tuck it into a cozy corner of your patio, or let it cascade into a garden bed, it adds this soft, soothing vibe that's hard to explain until you see it in action. It's equally functional and decorative, which is always a win in my book.

If you're refreshing any part of your outdoor space, Aldi is a must-visit right now. The Aldi Finds aisle is packed with so many sweet and affordable options for bringing your porch or patio to a place that makes you feel proud. There are $4.99 gardening gloves perfect for swapping out old plants for new ones, and a foldable reclining chair that works great in small spaces. Get out there, shop and give your yard the makeover it deserves.

6 Books Releasing This Week That Will Be Your Next Obsession

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 6:00pm

Another Tuesday is almost here, and that means new books are coming out. You likely already have your first picks, but there are six I don’t want you missing out on as they’re released on April 21, 2026. In fact, they’re going to be your next obsession.

Most of these are fiction books, covering a various of genres, whether you want horror, thriller, romance, or something in between. There is also a cook book, which is a must as we look for ways to still eat healthily on a budget.

‘Thrall’ by Rebecca Mahoney

Need a supernatural horror? Want something that offers more of a Dracula and Buffy the Vampire Slayer feel rather than the Twilight vibes? Thrall by Rebecca Mahoney needs to be on your list. I did describe this as YA — it fit my vibe check for my teen — but it’s more New Adult and Adult. Either way, it tells a story that we need more often: vampires are dangerous.

Lucy has always wanted to live her life, and that was the dream when she went to Rollins University. However, she suddenly learns that dreams can change in an instant when she wakes up from a party with no memory and two bite holes on the side of her neck.

Yes, vampires are real, and no, she’s not the only one who knows this. Vampires are dangerous, but that doesn’t stop an LGBTQ+ romance happening, a focus on positive female friendships, and a discussion of what living your life really means.

Courtesy of Harper Collins Publishers

Harper Collins Publishers

‘Purple State’ by Dana Perino

In the mood for a romance? Purple State by Dana Perino covers that and more, asking you the question whether love can cross the political divide. It does go heavy into the political side of things now and then, but it also touches on romance, friendship, and simply finding where you belong.

Dot is a PR professional in New York, and she’s damn good at what she does. However, she wants more. After breaking up with her boyfriend, she decides that it’s time for a new challenge, which involves helping a purple state swing blue during the next election.

Of course, along the way she comes across a man who could be Mr. Right. The problem is he’s Republican, and she never thought she could fall for someone who would swing red. Is it possible that love can work? This is sure to get everyone talking, because it certainly got me thinking!

Penguin Random House

‘Thistlemarsh’ by Moorea Corrigan

They always say not to judge a book by its cover, but Thistlemarsh by Moorea Corrigan is an exception. The cover for this one is downright gorgeous, and it certainly sets the tone of the novel. If you need fantasy — and you want old-school fantasy at that — this is the one for you.

There’s the whimsical tale of the fae, but at the same time, there’s a darker side. After all, if you know the real stories of the fairies in England, you’ll know that they weren’t cute creatures that just liked to have fun. Their deals are not made to be broken, or there will be some serious consequences.

At the same time, there’s a story of loss and that feeling of home. Mouse needs to rejuvenate a family legacy, and she’s only got a month to do it in. The pressure is on, and it’s no wonder she questions if the price a certain fairy is asking for is worth it.

Bindery Books

‘Burn the Sea’ by Mona Tewari

How about a mixture of historical fiction and fantasy? Burn the Sea by Mona Tewari brings us the story of a tale in history. It’s a reimagining of the Portugese attacks on South India in the 1500s, bringing to light a fierce real-life queen’s story.

Abbakka Chowta was the youngest of Ullal’s two rajkumaris, so she never once expected to be queen. However, her fate is sealed when the Porcugi attempts to lay claim to Ullal. Now, she needs to put her combat training to use, no longer destined to become her sister’s blade, but to be her own.

At the same time, she needs to decide if marriage is the way to protect her people. Could it end up causing the downfall of her people? It’s a story that leaves you wondering what would you do under the circumstances, while creating a fantastical element around a real and harrowing story.

Amazon

‘The Caretaker’ by Marcus Kliewer

Horror is a wonderful genre, packed with various types of monsters and themes. The Caretaker by Marcus Kliewer is one of the most anticipated horrors of the month, and it brings us a dark horror.

Macy Mullins has bills to pay, and while the caretaker job doesn’t sound all that appealing, she needs to apply. She has no choice, and it’s supposed to be only three days’ work. What’s the issue?

Things take a turn when this peculiar job turns into a nightmare. The property she’s looking after has an evil that she can’t put her finger on, and now she needs to survive in a way she’s never had to before. It’s the perfect tale for fans of The Shining, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and other twisty horrors.

HarperCollins

‘Come Eat: 100 Nourishing Recipes to Eat Every Day’ by Melissa Ben-Ishay

Not a fictional book, but something to obsess over none the less. With the rising cost in groceries and the need to work longer to survive, we still deserve tasty and nutritious food. Come Eat: 100 Nourishing Recipes to Eat Every Day by Melissa Ben-Ishay brings us that.

The cookbook starts with salads and soups, but there are also some delicious dinner recipes that are super easy to make. And yes, there are some that you can cheat by putting in the slow cooker instead. I did it with the Healing Chicken Soup and the Magic Meat Sauce (I did cook the rice separately).

My favorite part of this recipe book — except the photos that quickly helped me make some dinner choices! — was the section on How to Eat Leftovers. Leftovers don’t need to be boring, and Ben-Ishay helps with that. Oh, and yes, the dessert section is a must. I’ve only just got started with this cookbook, and I can’t wait to try more!

Nicole Brown Simpson's Sister Reveals Emotional Significance Behind the 32nd Anniversary of Her Death

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 5:53pm

This year will mark an important anniversary for the family of Nicole BrownSimpson.

June 12, 2026 will officially mark 32 years since the tragic death of Nicole, the ex-wife of famous football star O.J. Simpson. Just 35 years old at the time, Nicole was brutally murdered outside her California home in 1994, along with her friend Ron Goldman, age 25.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬

According to Tanya Brown, one of Nicole's three sisters, the upcoming 32nd anniversary of that devastating day holds a significant meaning to her, as 32 was the jersey number worn by O.J. during his time in the NFL.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, April 20 to share an update on her preparations for the upcoming anniversary, Tanya wrote, "Nicole is gone now 32 years. OJ's number is 32 and I want this year to be special for her and abolished that number 32 forever."

She added, "Every time I watch football and every time somebody wears the number 32 I get triggered."

Tanya and her sisters have long expressed the belief that O.J. was responsible for Nicole's death, speaking extensively about the case in the 2024 Lifetime documentary, The Life & Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson. O.J., however, was never criminally convicted.

View this post on Instagram

O.J. was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and famously stood trial in 1995. He was acquitted of criminal charges, though he was later found liable for the two deaths in a 1997 civil court case, and was ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages.

Now, as the Brown family approaches 32 years since Nicole's death, they are planning a candlelight vigil to take place in June in honor of both Nicole and Goldman. Despite the negative feelings she has associated with the number 32, Tanya wrote in her post on Monday, "It's all good. We are going to remember Nicole, Ron; all victims and survivors of violent crime."

She also reflected on the "so many fun memories" she was re-living while going through loose photos of the family in preparation for the vigil.

The Candlelight Vigil to commemorate 32 years since the deaths of Nicole and Goldman will take place on June 12, streaming on Facebook Live at 8 p.m. ET.

This Iconic Designer Launched His First Denim Line in 1978—and It’s Still Going Strong in 2026

When Calvin Klein launched his first denim line in 1978, no one could have predicted that the designer's jeans would still be at the forefront of fashion 48 years later. Yet here we are in 2026, and the brand's denim collection is even hotter than ever.

Following the success of FX's TV series Love Story, which chronicled the relationship of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, the buzz surrounding Calvin Klein's brand has only grown. In the scripted series, viewers saw Bessette interact with Klein while she was working as a publicist and VIP associate for the designer. Love Story is set in the 1990s, which is somewhat poetic since Klein's latest denim collection includes several pieces that are very much an ode to the decade. The designer's website even has a special "'90s Edit" section that's full of 90s-inspired pieces.

It's been nearly five decades since Klein first launched his denim line, but celebrity stylist Kim Appeltsays the designer's new denim line is more relevant than ever and is having a moment.

Below, she weighs in on the lasting impact of Klein's denim collection and breaks down a few denim trends you'll want to check out this year.

When Did Calvin Klein's First Denim Line Launch?

According to Vogue, Klein debuted his first denim line in 1978.

To launch his denim collection, Klein pushed out an ad campaign featuring model Patti Hansen, per WWD, who described the designer as "one of the earliest pioneers" of designer denim.

The Lasting Impact of Calvin Klein's Denim Lines

Appelt, the author of Style for Everybody: A Guide to Curating Your Essential Wardrobe, says Klein "changed the game" when he first introduced his denim line.

"That was the moment denim stopped being just casual and started feeling elevated and intentional," she tells Parade. "He was one of the first designers to make jeans feel sexy and polished at the same time, and that shift is still influencing how we wear denim today."

Appelt says Klein's denim collection has "always been about class."

"Clean lines, great fit, nothing extra. It taught a generation that denim doesn’t need to try so hard to be impactful. That idea of simplicity is what made it timeless. You see it come back over and over again, especially now, as people move away from over-styled looks and lean into pieces that work for their body type," she explains.

2026 Denim Trends from Calvin Klein

When it comes to Klein's denim trends for 2026, Appelt is noticing a "return to clean, straight-leg and relaxed, mid-rise denim."

"It's not overly baggy, not overly tight," she states.

Instead, the brand's denim styles this year are "balanced and perfect for everyday and elevated looks."

"We’re seeing denim come back to more natural silhouette pieces that skim the body instead of fighting it," she shares.

So far, the 2026 line is giving plenty of classic Calvin Klein vibes with "minimal, slightly undone and easy to wear" styles.

"The washes are cleaner as well: classic blues, soft fades and darker rinses. There's nothing overly distressed. It’s less about trend, more about shape and proportion," she says.

Appelt is currently crushing on a pair of 90s Straight Jeans ($90.30, originally $129) from Klein's 2026 denim collection.

"It feels like a quiet evolution of what Calvin Klein has always done so well: clean, minimal and effortless," she says. "The newer fits sit on the body rather than trying to shape it, which is exactly where things are moving right now."

How To Style ‘90s Straight Jeans

Whether you're new to '90s straight denim or you've been rocking the style for ages, Appelt has a few tips for styling the look.

"I always advise my clients to start simple and let the denim do the work. If the jeans fit properly, you don’t need much else to [complete] your look," she says.

The stylist recommends pairing your '90s straight denim with a white tee, a tailored blazer and a belt.

"For footwear, you can lead with your personal style. A sleek loafer or heel elevates your look instantly, or a simple sneaker keeps it relaxed but still intentional," she shares.

The key? Proportion.

"Opt for slightly looser jeans and a more structured or fitted top (or the reverse). That’s where the look starts to feel styled without looking overdone," she suggests. "Top that off with simple jewelry. Or if you love a statement, you can punch that up a bit. Simple gold hoops or a pair of studs will do the trick."

2 Other Denim Trends To Keep an Eye on in 2026

Aside from Klein's '90s denim trend, Appelt says there are several other denim trends to keep an eye out for this year.

1. Longer, leaner silhouettes

"Even with wider cuts, the length is important," Appelt explains. "Jeans are either pooling slightly at the shoe or hitting in a very deliberate way. The key tip with this is to make sure the length works with your body. So if you have longer legs, you have the advantage of wearing a more subtle crop. If your legs are shorter, the longer length is going to give the illusion of legs for days."

Shop the look:

2. Darker, polished washes

"I'm seeing a shift towards darker, more polished washes, which makes denim feel more versatile," Appelt shares. "You can wear it during the day, but it also works at night, dressed up with a pair of heels."

1968 Hit Film Ranked Among ‘Best Movies of All Time’

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 5:49pm

A landmark 1968 Western film has secured a place among cinema’s greatest works, with Once Upon a Time in the West earning a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ list of the best movies of all time.

The recognition adds to the film’s long-standing reputation as one of the most influential and celebrated Westerns ever made.

Directed by Sergio Leone, the epic film has been widely praised for its storytelling, visuals and unforgettable music. Over the years, critics and filmmakers have continued to revisit the movie, often calling it a masterpiece that helped redefine the Western genre.

Released in 1968, the film tells a gripping story set in the American Old West. It follows Jill McBain, played by Claudia Cardinale, who arrives in a desert town only to find her husband and his children murdered.

The crime is linked to a ruthless outlaw named Frank, portrayed by Henry Fonda, in a role that shocked audiences because he was usually cast as a hero.

The story deepens as a mysterious gunslinger, Harmonica, played by Charles Bronson, enters the scene, seeking revenge. Another key figure, Cheyenne, portrayed by Jason Robards, is an outlaw wrongly blamed for the killings. Their paths cross in a tense battle over land, power, and justice.

The film’s layered story explores themes of greed, revenge and survival. It also shows the changing American frontier, where railroads and business interests begin to replace the old way of life.

Instead of fast action, it uses slow, quiet scenes to build tension before sudden bursts of violence. Its sweeping cinematography and haunting score by Ennio Morricone add to its emotional depth. The music, in particular, has been described as one of the composer’s finest works.

Despite mixed reactions during its original U.S. release, the film grew in popularity over time. A shorter American cut removed key scenes, which hurt its early performance. However, later restored versions brought back its full vision, helping audiences and critics better appreciate its storytelling.

Today, the film is widely considered a classic. It was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Many filmmakers, including Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino, have cited it as an influence on their work.

Rotten Tomatoes’ consensus calls it “A landmark Sergio Leone spaghetti Western masterpiece featuring a classic Morricone score.”

The film also appears on multiple “greatest movies” lists, including Time magazine’s top 100 films of the 20th century and Empire’s rankings, where it was once named the highest-ranked Western.

In recent years, the film’s legacy has taken on a deeper meaning. As of 2026, all of its main cast members and its director have passed away, marking the end of an era for the iconic production. Still, their performances continue to live on through the film’s lasting impact. With its powerful storytelling and memorable characters, Once Upon a Time in the West remains a defining piece of film history.

1980s Folk Rock Duo Shares Heartbreaking 2026 Tour Update

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 5:41pm

After decades of delivering some of the most stunning harmonies in music history, one half of the Indigo Girls is opening up about health struggles that are affecting her ability to sing.

In a video shared to the band's TikTok over the weekend, Emily Saliers shared the details of her ongoing health issues while seated on a couch alongside musical partner Amy Ray.

"We needed to make y’all aware of something," Saliers, 62, said in the clip. "To those of you in our community who have supported us all these years, we’re so grateful for you."

Saliers went on to say that she wants to be "completely forthcoming" ahead of the Indigo Girls' upcoming tour about how the neurological movement disorder cervical dystonia, along with essential tremor, have impacted her singing voice.

@indigogirlsmusic

An important message from Indigo Girls. We know it’s long, but please listen to it in its entirety if you are able.

♬ original sound - Indigo Girls

“Many of you have noticed that my voice — maybe all of you have noticed, it’s pretty noticeable — that my voice is not what it once was,” she said.

“So I wanted to share with you that I’ve been diagnosed with two movement disorders. One is called cervical dystonia with torticollis, which basically is in the part of my brain that controls movement...and in other people with this condition, the brain sends signals to tighten muscles. So because of the cervical dystonia, my head twists to the right and is misaligned. It can cause shaking of the head. It’s impossible for me to hold my head centrally without shaking, things like that. So structurally, obviously, that is problematic for this whole throat area," Saliers explained.

“But the other diagnosis, which is harder in fact for me, is an essential tremor," she added. "And the essential tremor causes involuntary shakes or movement, and it affects all the parts of my singing apparatus, the larynx, the pharyngeal muscles, my jaw and my diaphragm from which I get all the air for singing," she continued. "So I’m unable to make the connections muscularly and structurally because of the essential tremor. What else the essential tremor does is give me this — I am gonna call it horrible, because it’s horrible to me — vibrato that I never used to have. I am completely physically unable to hold a straight tone the way I used to.”

“What you, our community, have come to, I think, appreciate and love about some of our harmonies is the way we can hold long straight tones together. So I want to give you a heads up about that, in full transparency,” Saliers continued, going on to thank Ray for being "super supportive" and assure concert-goers that "as we get ready for these shows, we are doing everything we can to make the songs sound as good as they can possibly sound or ever sound, which includes all the modern digital tools that front-of-house engineers use to help singers sound better.”

Fans in the comments were quick to express their support and admiration.

"Emily the both of you have been such a huge part of my life growing up. I'm two years younger than you and things are happening with my body that I don't understand either, but that being said keep soldiering on and I hope that you can keep your symptoms at bay with all that you're doing," one person wrote.

"Y'all could come on stage sit in a rocker and play a recording of your songs and we would be ecstatic," a second commenter added. "Love & light to you both!"

The Indigo Girls are hitting the road later this month and are scheduled to tour the U.S. through September.

‘Doogie Howser, M.D.’ Star Dead at 73

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 5:29pm

73-year-old actor Rif Hutton has passed away after a yearlong battle with brain cancer, according to Deadline. In March 2025, he learned about his brain tumor and wrote, “Every person facing Glioblastoma, or any brain disorder, deserves this kind of support—to be  surrounded by encouragement, by prayer, and by stalwart champions of hope and light. There continues to be meaningful advancements in the fight against [Glioblastoma], and that fight needs all  of us. Please support it in whatever way you can.” He passed in his home in Pasadena on April 18.

Hutton was born in San Antonio Texas in 1952 and was raised in New Jersey. In the mid ‘70s, he moved out to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career. The ‘Practical Magic’ Line That Addressed a Real Witch’s Curse

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 4:44pm

Sisters who are also witches are cursed in Practical Magic. The filmmakers wanted a real witch to consult on the 1998 movie. But things backfired, and a real witch cursed the movie, according to director Griffin Dunne. Dunne, 70, explained what went wrong and a line he wrote into the movie to address the falling out.

The director told Vulture that the consultant was paid for her work and planned to make a cookbook inspired by the movie. Things went south when she asked for $250,000.

"I’m going to put a curse on you. I’m putting a curse on this movie, and I’m putting a curse on Griffin," the witch threatened, according to Dunne. She left a voicemail about cursing them, then spoke in tongues.

"It inspired one of Aiden [Quinn’s] lines: 'Curses only have power when you believe them,'" the director explained. "I decided I’m just not going to believe in this. It was creepy. If I’d watched the scene in a horror movie, I would be freaked by it. But this is real life."

The first movie was about a family of witches cursed from finding love. The sequel will be their journey to work together and break it.

The teaser trailer for Practical Magic 2 shows Sandra BullockandNicole Kidman back as the Owen sisters. They warn Lee Pace's character that people around them die. It looks like there is a new generation in the family with Maisie Williams and Joey King. This time, Susanne Bier directed the film.

The movie will be released on Friday, September 11, 2026.

1987 No. 1 Hit Won an Oscar for 'Best Original Song' 38 Years Ago

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 4:43pm

In 1987, Patrick Swayzewas one of the big screen's biggest heartthrobs and starred in a romantic film classic alongsideJennifer Grey. Along with the film's cult-classic status, it had a standout soundtrack that led one of its hit tracks to win an Oscar, a Grammy, and a Golden Globe.

Dirty Dancing was released during the hot August summer of 1987 and was written by Eleanor Bergstein based on her own childhood. She originally wrote the screenplay for another 1980 film starring Michael Douglas, but ended up creating what would become Dirty Dancing by 1985. The film was a box office success, having premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and making $214 million worldwide.

Taking place at a Catskills resort in the summer of 1963, the storyline focuses on teenager Frances "Baby" Houseman (Grey) as she spends one final summer with her family before joining the Peace Corps. Amid the upper-class guests, Ivy League workers, and family "fun," Baby meets Johnny Castle (Swayze), one of the resort's middle-class entertainers and dancers. It soon starts a complex love story between social classes.

Dirty Dancing further cemented Swayze as an on-screen dreamboat and earned Grey worldwide recognition. No good dance movie isn't without its equally important soundtrack. Along with hits like "Hungry Eyes" and Swayze's "She's Like the Wind," one of its title tracks
"(I've Had) The Time of My Life" ended up winning an Oscar for Best Original Song at the 1988 Oscars. That same year, it earned a Golden Globe in the same category and a Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

The track was composed by Franke Previte, John DeNicola, and Donald Markowitz, with vocals by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. Warnes was already known for singing another Oscar-winning hit, "Up Where We Belong" for An Officer and a Gentleman.

Previte was the lead singer of the band Franke and the Knockouts, and by 1986 was without a recording contract. Record producer Jimmy Lenner asked Previte to develop a few tracks for Dirty Dancing, which he initially refused, thinking it was an R-rated film and was more concerned with landing a record deal. In the end, Previte took on the project and came up with the title for "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" while driving down the New Jersey Parkway.

It just so happens that the track had some trouble finding its leading singers, with Donna Summer, Joe Esposito, and even Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates and Kim Carnes turning it down. Medley of the Righteous Brothers was also approached, but only accepted after the birth of his daughter, with Warnes having accepted after being persuaded by her then-byofriend.

"(I've Had) The Time of My Life" ended up being a hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1 and the Adult Contemporary charts. It was tagged by the American Film Institute as one of the best songs ever written for film.

‘Tis the season for lacing up the hiking boots and getting lost in the wilderness. Or maybe just reading about it (wink).

Released on May 28, 2024, the memoir details a 750-mile trek through the Big Ditch, offering a thrilling narrative and visceral descriptions of the surrounding landscape. Approached by his best friend, National Geographic photographer Pete McBride, Fedarko agrees to join his pal on a journey he is promised will be “a walk in the park.” Although in reality, Fedarko knows it will be “the toughest hike in the world.”

Over the next year plus, Fedarko and McBride traverse thousand-foot cliffs, impenetrable wilderness, and crumbling ledges, meeting the canyon’s Native American tribes, who reveal deeper histories and challenge long-held myths about the country's national parks. They even cheat death — and live to tell the tale. Obviously.

In 2024, A Walk in the Park was named a Best Book of the Year, by Air Mail, Smithsonian Magazine, and The New York Times, with the latter publication calling it a “triumph” that “induced awe.” Further awards for the Simon & Schuster title include the 2024 National Outdoor Book Award in Outdoor Literature and the 2025 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction.

In a post the author shared on Instagram back in April 2024, Fedarko gets candid about the actual horrors the two experienced physically. While also sharing an excerpt from the book, he shares images that show exactly how much a “walk in the park” this journey was not.

“Believe it or not,” Pete whispered, turning to me in earnest, “you and I don’t even need to worry about being in shape for this hike.”

“And why is that?” I asked, wondering how we could pull off an expedition of this magnitude without being in top physical condition.

“Because,” he exclaimed, “the hike itself is the thing that’s gonna get us in shape FOR the hike.”

“Really?” I mumbled as I tried to wrap my mind around the logic.

“You bet - in fact, that’s the coolest part of the entire plan, because it means that the whole time we’re down there, the canyon is gonna be polishing us off like little gemstones, and by the end of our first phase… guess what?”

I could not imagine.

“You and me will turn into a pair of hardcore hiking buffs - and all we have to do for that to happen is show up!”

Jim Parsons Just Revealed if He’ll Ever Play Sheldon Cooper Again

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 4:40pm

Jim Parsons just shared some news that might disappoint fans of hisBig Bang Theory character, Dr. Sheldon Cooper.

Decider reported that Parsons shared he's not all that interested in playing Sheldon in a possible Big Bang Theory reboot during the April 17 episode of The View. He also revealed that he doesn't miss portraying Sheldon because he feels connected to the character.

"I don’t believe I would do a reboot. I can’t say I miss him, partly because, especially 12 years on a TV show where they’re writing for this specific actor, there’s a lot of me in that. Not the genius part, but there’s a lot of me in that," said Parsons during the April 2026 interview.

In addition, Parsons said he's happy that Big Bang Theory fans have continued to come up to him, despite the fact that the CBSsitcom is nearly 20 years old.

“It’s very moving because when you take a job as a younger actor on a sitcom TV show, I don’t think many people think it can have some sort of bigger effect than that. And that’s really sweet," said the 53-year-old actor while on The View.

Parsons played the Spock-loving physicist throughout the show's 12 seasons, which ended in 2019, per IMDb. In addition, the actor provided his voice to be the narrator of the Big Bang Theory seven-season spinoff series, Young Sheldon. Decider reported that Parsons was featured as an adult version of Sheldon during the Young Sheldon finale, which aired in 2024.

Kaley Cuoco Hinted That She'd Return to Play Penny

Parsons isn't the only Big Bang Theory cast member who recently discussed possibly returning to play their beloved character. In a January 2026 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Kaley Cuocowas asked if she's coming back to play Penny for the upcoming spin-off series, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.

Cuoco refrained from giving a verbal response but widened her eyes and smiled. The actress also said that she'll be forever grateful for her time playing Penny.

"I love Penny. It's one of my favorite characters. It changed my life professionally, personally. What a journey. I learned so much," said Cuoco in the Entertainment Tonight interview.
