Bestselling Author’s Steamy Romance Series Is Being Adapted for TV

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 7:15pm

If you’re in love with smut, there is one steamy romance series you must have read. T.L. Swan’s Miles High Club book series became a huge success, and it was only a matter of time before it would be picked up as a series.

Well, that time has come. Amazon MGM Studios agrees with the fans that this is a series worth picking up, according to Deadline. There is some bad news in this in that the show hasn’t got a writer yet, but Swan is set to executive produce along with Counterpoint Productions and QC Entertainment.

About the ‘Miles High Club’ Books

For those who haven’t read the books yet, the “Miles” part isn’t a typo. The four-book series follows the four Miles brothers. They are hot billionaires who have carefully crafted lives. They are media moguls, after all, and the last thing they need is for bad press. They also think that bachelor life is the best life.

You know what they say when it comes to people not looking for love. That’s when love finds us, and that is certainly the case for the four wealthy brothers.

It all starts with The Stopover, which follows Emily Foster, who finds herself thrown off when her new boss turns out to be the one-night stand that was supposed to remain that way. Jameson Miles is a powerful and ruthless billionaire, who is ready to pick up where he and Emily left off during her unexpected first class upgrade, but is she willing to risk her dream job for this one man?

The Takeover, The Casanova, and The Do-Over are the next books. The great thing about the series is that they can be read out of order.

Could ‘Miles High Club’ Get a ‘Bridgerton’ Style Adaptation?

The question now is how Amazon MGM Studios will develop the series. There is room to do something like Bridgerton, where each season gets a new lead. This would be the most obvious choice for a book series that is so focused on separate couples.

Each story has its own motivating factors and storyline. While the first book is a one-night-stand-to-lovers storyline, the second novel is more enemies-to-lovers. It wouldn’t make sense to combine everything across seasons.

This could depend on the direction a writer and showrunner would like to take. All eyes are on the series' development. Until then, there is a new steamy romance book, The Heart You Kept, coming in May 2026.

How to Politely Say ‘I Already Told You’ in a Work Email, Etiquette Expert Reveals

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 7:11pm

Navigating the professional world can be tricky at times. It isn't always easy to interpret tone over email or Slack, and no one knows that more than etiquette experts. While they say that there are plenty of common mistakes that job-seekers can make before even setting foot in the workplace, learning to communicate politely and effectively once there should be priority number one.

Tough situations at work are sometimes unavoidable, but you can at least learn to navigate them with grace without becoming unlikable to your colleagues. One common phrase etiquette experts say to avoid? "I already told you," which is a phrase that can come off condescending or rude in a professional setting if you aren't careful. That's why we asked an etiquette expert to share exactly how to politely say this in a work email.

There are multiple ways you can go about this, but etiquette coach Heidi Dulebohn says that keeping it simple, direct and polite is key in these types of situations. Whether you're looking for ways to professionally clear up a misunderstanding or need to remind someone of a due date without being harsh, Dulebohn shares some of her favorite phrases to politely say "I already told you" in a work email, to help you become a poised and articulate master at your job. Plus, other phrases you can use to be politely assertive in the workplace so you don't end up becoming a people-pleaser, either.

Why You Shouldn’t Use ‘I Already Told You’ in a Professional Email or Setting

The phrase "I already told you" doesn't always give off the classiest or most professional energy in a work setting—just ask Dulebohn, an international etiquette coach and speaker. This especially applies if you're a manager. The language you use as a superior is important in setting the tone with your direct reports. Even if you've already explained something, patience is key.

"It can be frustrating to repeat yourself at work, but you can do so in a professional, collegial and polite way that keeps momentum moving forward and does not create hard feelings," she shares. "At work, how we say something can be as important as what we say. When you find yourself about to say, 'I already told you,' stop, take a beat, and engage your emotional intelligence, read the room and keep your credibility, relationships and executive presence in check."

She also says it's important not to directly say "I already told you" because it can come across as dismissive and perhaps, in some cases, confrontational.

"It may even shut things down," she adds. "Consider, who are you speaking to—your boss, a colleague or a client—and the circumstances."

How to Politely Say ‘I Already Told You’ in a Work Email, According to an Etiquette Expert

It's all about striking the proper tone when you're trying to politely say "I already told you." Dulebohn shares some key ways to get your point across without coming off standoffish or confrontational.

1. "As I mentioned earlier..."

This helps move the conversation in a more positive direction instead of feeling condescending.

"This is a simple reminder to keep things moving without assigning blame," Dulebohn adds. "As an example, you can say something like, 'As I mentioned earlier, the deadline is Friday.'

2. "Just to reiterate…"

This kind of language works because it applies emphasis instead of being hostile or snooty. You're merely trying to emphasize the due date of a project or assignment to make sure everyone is on the same page.

"This phrase also positions you as organized and clear, not frustrated," explains Dulebohn. "As an example, you can say, 'Just to reiterate, we'll need final approvals by Thursday.'"

3. "I may not have been clear—let me clarify…"

While this language works well for anyone in the workplace, Dulebohn says it's key in certain types of scenarios.

"This is especially helpful when dealing with someone who holds a superior position to yours," she shares. "This is a gracious option that immediately [diffuses] tensions by taking partial responsibility, otherwise called saving someone else's face.  As an example, you can say, 'I may not have been clear—let me clarify the next steps.'"

4. "Happy to confirm…"

For an even more positive spin, Dulebohn says to try something like the above.

"This is warm, confident and especially effective in client-facing communication," she shares. "As an example, you can say, 'Happy to confirm that we'll proceed with option B.'"

5. "Circling back to my earlier note…"

Dulebohn says this feels more like a gentle nudge than a back-handed comment.

"It feels collaborative rather than corrective," she explains. "As an example, you can say something like, 'Circling back to my earlier note, we'll move forward next week.'"

Other Phrases You Can Use To Be Politely Assertive at Work

Learning to say "I already told you" in a professional way is just a drop in the bucket when it comes to polite yet assertive communication at work. But getting your point across without rubbing people the wrong way is easy thanks to Dulebohn's tips.

"You can be a strong and effective leader while conducting yourself in a polite manner," she says. "Gracious does not mean passive. The best leaders are kind and clear. Try using these phrases at work to accomplish your goals."

Setting expectations:

When you're trying to assert your expectations for a project or assignment, being direct and clear is key. Dulebohn says the following phrases are her top picks for setting the tone early on.

  • "Going forward, let’s…"
  • "To keep things on track, we’ll…"
Redirecting a conversation:

If you feel like time is being wasted on something or a meeting is going much longer than needed, Dulebohn says that's when it's time to gently and politely redirect the conversation. A couple of her favorite phrases to do that include:

  • "Let's refocus on…"
  • "The priority here is…"
Holding boundaries:

The workplace is one of the most important places to assert your boundaries. Whether that's being honest about what's possible or what's a realistic workload for you, learning to politely protect yourself is key. Dulebohn outlined what to say in that case below.

  • "I won't be able to accommodate that timeline, but I can…"
  • "That's outside our current scope, but let's talk about what I can do to achieve your goals and expectations."
Encouraging accountability:

Making sure others take accountability for their share of work can be tough. If you're looking for a polite way to be assertive and make sure someone does their part, Dulebohn has you covered.

  • "What would be the next step from your side?"
  • "Can you walk me through your plan here?"

'90s Rock Legend Releases 'Sublime' New Single and Fans Say It's an 'Instant Classic'

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 7:11pm

It's no exaggeration to say that Beck has had one of the most innovative, diverse careers of any rock star in history. From the moment he burst onto the scene with the '90s anthem "Loser," the musician has experimented with just about every genre, from folk to country to pop to hip-hop, all with great success. Now, if Beck's latest single is any indication, it seems he might be gearing up for another introspective, reflective period, similar to the music on two of his most beloved albums, Sea Change (2002) and Morning Phase (2014)

Following the late-January release of his EP, Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime — a collection of covers and rarities — Beck just dropped a new single, "Ride Lonesome," which reunited the Grammy winner with the team that worked on Sea Change (guitarists Jason Falkner and Smokey Hormel, drummer Joey Waronker and producer Nigel Godrich).

Fans on YouTube were quick to rave about the track.

"When Beck writes a lonely acoustic song in the key of E, it's an instant classic," declared one person, with a second calling it "sublime."

"Love it! Beck is truly the most talented musician imo! Just so amazing!" wrote another fan, as yet another commenter confessed, "This song soothes my soul."

Beck was going through a 'lonely time' when he wrote 'Ride Lonesome'

In a recent interview with NPR, Beck opened up about the inspiration behind "Ride Lonesome."

"It was a bit of a lonely time," he said. "It was one of those times in your life when you're taking things in, where you've been and where you're going. You know, when you're going through difficult things, often you have to get through it yourself. You just have to move forward through whatever landscape of your life and circumstances you find yourself in. And I think it's sort of that dark comfort of pushing through the parts of life that are maybe not as comfortable or easy, and having some distant faith that it will pull you through to the other side."

As for whether or not fans can look forward to a new full-length album and what else he's been up to, Beck admitted that while he "had to wait a couple of years to get back to work [after COVID]," he's been "writing a lot of songs."

"It's been a very prolific time for me," he said. "I did a song with Gorillaz and I did one with Paul McCartney, and we did a fun video together. I helped write a Black Keys album called Ohio Players. I think I wrote like 10 or 12 of those songs. And then I've just been working on my music pretty constantly. I built a recording studio."

"You know, I've been living life. I've probably made multiple albums' worth of music that probably no one will ever hear, but hopefully it leads to something," Beck continued. "I've got lots of things cooking. I've been in the studio a lot on and off the last four years with my band. There's a group of musicians I came up with that were my touring band for a lot of my early records. And everybody's gone off to bigger and better things, but we still get together and we'll find a couple of days here and there and make some music. And yeah, I have a lot of different projects I want to do, so hopefully there's time to get to all of them."

Five Below's Sweet and Stackable 3-Piece Organizer Is Perfect For Storing the Small Stuff

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 7:05pm

There was a time not that long ago when all I asked of storage was that it did its job and didn't cost a fortune. Old me was perfectly content with a basic plastic bin as long as it held my stuff and stayed out of the way. But somewhere along the line, that shifted. New me? She has standards. She still wants functional and affordable, obviously, but now there's a third non-negotiable: it has to be cute. Apparently, the new me also talks about herself in the third person.

Blame it on this whole dopamine decor era, but I've realized I actually like being surrounded by things that make me smile—even the most boring, utilitarian items. After all, why shouldn't a storage bin have a little personality?

Stackable Flowers Storage Bin 3-Pack, $5 at Five Below

Five Below

Which is exactly why I'm suddenly very invested in a three-tier, flower-shaped plastic organizer from Five Below that feels less like storage and more like a tiny, happy upgrade to my everyday life. As the product name suggests, there are three separate "tiers" that snap together. The tiers have small compartments so you can organize everything from craft supplies to other little stuff. (Hair accessories, maybe?)

Before heading to the store, it's worth noting that this leans more toward decoration than toward heavy-duty use. The plastic construction keeps it lightweight and affordable, but it's not meant for anything super heavy. Instead, it's exactly the kind of piece that makes organizing feel less like a task you've been avoiding and more like a small, satisfying upgrade to your space. And if you're in your dopamine decor era like me, this is the kind of find that makes you weirdly excited to tidy up.

Elsewhere at Five Below, you can find other cutesy, affordable items to refresh your space. There are these flower-shaped drinking glasses with a sort of retro vibe, and a dainty little serving tray that's just as good at corralling small items as it is at serving up snacks. That's the great thing about Five Below—it's like your retail bestie always at the ready with something to make you smile.

'Purple State’ by Dana Perino Is More Than a Romance — And It Makes It Worth the Read

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 6:33pm

Purple State by Dana Perino is her fictional debut, and it’s certainly marketed as a romance. At the heart of it, that’s certainly the case. However, the soul of the novel offers something much more, and it’s easy to overlook that at first.

In fact, it takes a good half of the story to really get into the romance of it all. While Dot is involved with someone at the beginning, she knows it’s not going anywhere, and so, I don’t really count that as the romance part. Instead, we get a story of life and of friendships, and I definitely didn’t expect that.

‘Purple State’ Asks What You Want to Do with Your Life

The start of the novel brings focus to the friendship of three women in their 20s. They are all in different lines of work, but they’re close and they tell each other everything. This is the type of friendship so many women would love to have, but it’s not always that easy. Yet, I appreciate seeing it in fiction, as it’s proof that something like this can exist.

Dot, Mary, and Harper are all at a stage in their lives where they’re not all that sure about what they want. Well, Dot and Harper are. Mary seems to have it figured out, but she’s also willing to make a huge move. The stars align when they’re offered the chance to move out of New York City to Cedar Falls, Wisconsin for a few months.

That’s where the journey begins. They’re there temporarily to help with the upcoming election. The aim is to turn this purple state blue, and that means none of them are looking for love. Of course, we find love when we’re not expecting it, and that’s what happens to Dot. She doesn’t think it will at first, though, as a Democrat who is sure that she can’t have a life with a Republican.

It’s the friendship that is the soul of this story. We get to see what it means to have friends who support each other, and I’d have been happy to have remained focused on that. One of my small complaints was that the trio didn’t seem to have enough time to showcase the close friendship that they had — close enough to move to another state on almost a whim!

Courtesy of Harper Collins Publishers

Harper Collins Publishers

Can Romance Cross Party Lines?

Yes, there is a cute romance at the heart of Purple State. There are political elements throughout. After all, it starts with a move to a purple state to get people to vote blue, and there are a lot of mentions of Democrats and Republicans, the past elections, and the upcoming 2028 election, and more.

If that is going to trigger you, then I would recommend skipping the novel until you’re in a place that you can think more about politics. I get it — we’re not all in a place to think about what’s to come with everything going on in the world.

Something that surprised me was seeing reviews of the novel without reading it. People on Goodreads chose to give their opinions on the plot, but that isn’t fair and it doesn’t work for this one. It’s easy to jump to conclusions, and I love that Dot does just that a lot. She is very much like many readers.

Yet, she is willing to give people a chance. She is willing to open her mind a little, and it’s a message for readers throughout. There’s a nuance to the debate, and Perino is able to offer us that.

You can tell that this is her fiction debut, but that she’s also a writer to watch. The characters and some arcs could do with a little more development. As I said, I would have loved to see more of the friendship, but I also think the characters themselves need a few more layers. However, it’s a great start, and the story is believable rather than the Hallmark Christmas movies that you can sometimes end up rolling your eyes at.

Perino is able to find a good balance between the story and the politics. It doesn’t get preachy, but it still touches on important topics, and that’s not an easy task. Perino is an author to look out for.

'Farmer Wants a Wife' Star's Grandfather Had a Hit Song With Willie Nelson

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 6:28pm

As Farmer Wants a Wife season 4 gets underway, one contestant is already sparking curiosity with a surprising family connection to country music history.

Carsyn Hughes, one of the women vying for love this season, hints at it in her official bio, writing: “My grandfather wrote and performed some of the biggest country hits of his time.”

So who was he?

Carsyn’s grandfather was Ronald “Ronny” Goff Hughes, a longtime Nashville musician, songwriter and performer who worked with a wide range of country stars throughout his career.

According to his 2023 obituary, Hughes was already performing as a lead singer and guitarist before he could even drive, fronting a band called The Prodigys alongside his brothers. His talent quickly opened doors in the industry, and he went on to play bass and collaborate with artists including Hank Williams Jr., Jerry Reed and Porter Waggoner, among others.

Hughes also spent time performing on the Grand Ole Opry as part of The Vic Willis Trio, while building a career as a studio musician, songwriter and publisher. Over the years, he contributed to hundreds of recordings, becoming part of the fabric of Nashville’s music scene.

He was also connected to Danny Davis & The Nashville Brass, a group that found chart success with collaborations including a 1980 Top 20 country hit with Willie Nelson called "Night Life."

Following his death in 2023, Danny Davis & The Nashville Brass paid tribute on social media, writing, “Remembering original band bass guitarist, Ronnie Hughes who passed away November 22, 2023.” In the comments, a fan clarified that Hughes was part of the group’s touring “original band” — a term used for the core musicians who regularly performed with the ensemble from the late 1960s through the early 2000s.

Beyond his work in the industry, Hughes remained deeply connected to his faith and community, often sharing his music through church worship teams across Tennessee.

He died on November 22, 2023, at the age of 73.

Farmer Wants a Wife season 4 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.

Joe Buck Set To Host Upcoming ‘Jeopardy!’ Spinoff

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 6:26pm

I’ll take “newest Jeopardy! spin-offs” for $500, please.

The most recent addition to the Jeopardy! universe is ESPN Jeopardy!. The new series will ask sports-based trivia in the iconic reverse answer-question format.

JoeBuck, lead play-by-play announcer for Monday Night Football, was revealed to be the game show's host by Front Office Sports.

But Buck is not new to the Jeopardy! stage. He guest-hosted the game show in 2021 after the death of former host AlexTrebek.

The spin-off host has been the announcer for Monday Night Football since March 2022 and has worked in broadcast sports for over 30 years. Buck has called 33 conservative NFL seasons, as well as 24 World Series, 22 MLB All-Star games, and five golf U.S. Opens.

The original series is produced by Sony Pictures Television, and for the sports version, the production company is working with ESPN. It is expected to stream on Disney+ and Hulu this summer.

The show will use the sports network’s talent to compete for the grand prize of $500,000. The winner will grant the reward to their chosen charity. No contestants have been revealed yet.

This isn’t the first time the game show has attempted a sports-themed competition. The aptly named series Sports Jeopardy! aired on the (now bankrupt) Sony-owned streaming service Crackle. The show ran from 2014 to 2016 but was not a success.

Other brand extensions include Rock & Roll Jeopardy! (1998 to 2001), Jep! (1998 to 2000), and Pop Culture Jeopardy! (2024). The second season of Pop Culture Jeopardy! will premiere on Netflix in May 2026.

The original game show premiered in 1964, and the current syndicated version began in 1984. The first host was ArtFleming, who held the position from 1964 to 1979. He was succeeded by Alex Trebek, who hosted from 1984 until he died in 2020. It has been hosted by the show’s highest-earning contestant, KenJennings, since 2023.

The official ESPN Jeopardy! premiere date has yet to be announced.

1973 Classic Was a No. 1 Hit 53 Years Ago Today

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 6:22pm

In 1973, Donna Fargo released a song that would further cement her place as one of country music's most distinctive voices and become one of the most beloved country hits of the era.

Her track, "Superman," went on to become a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles, marking another major milestone in her career during a breakout era of success.

Following the massive popularity of her earlier hit "The Happiest Girl in the Whole U.S.A.," Fargo quickly established a signature style, one that blended optimism, sincerity and a conversational approach to storytelling. "Superman" fit seamlessly into that mold, offering a heartfelt look at love, admiration and everyday devotion.

The song's lyrics center on the idea that while no one is truly perfect, the person you love can still feel larger than life, like a superhero in the most meaningful ways. Fargo's warm, expressive delivery brings that sentiment to life, making the track both relatable and emotionally resonant.

"It's funny about songs that become hits. Since songs come from the creative spirit, I've sometimes thought they might have a mind of their own and the version of the idea becomes bound and determined to find a way to be heard and felt," Fargo told Goldmine in 2019. "I know that may be kind of out there thinking, but there must be an energy or something that reaches hearts in great numbers of listeners if a song becomes a legitimate hit."

At a time when country music was evolving, Fargo stood out for her ability to write and perform songs that felt both personal and universally appealing. "Superman" helped reinforce her reputation as a songwriter who could connect with audiences through simple but powerful themes.

More than five decades later, the song remains a staple of classic country, remembered for its uplifting message and timeless charm.

"Sometimes I'll have an idea just stew around in my head for a day or two or three and if I’m smart I'll take notes of my thoughts so I don't lose the context, and other times I'll just start playing and something will come out and I’ll go with it," Fargo said in a 2023 interview. "Songs almost have a mind of their own, like they insist on being written, and you have to do it their way. I love that. So I just let those kind lead me."

Its chart-topping success in 1973 stands as a testament to Fargo's enduring appeal and to a song that continues to resonate with listeners who believe in love that feels a little larger than life.

The Egyptian Way To Make Rice 10x Better

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 6:22pm

Rice can be prepared in all sorts of ways, though a surprising number of them fade into the background. But I recently stumbled across the Egyptian way of making rice, and suddenly, plain rice felt like a missed opportunity. This particular method, known as vermicelli rice (or roz bil sha'areya), transforms a simple pot of rice into something nutty, aromatic and quietly impressive.

Curiosity got the best of me after spotting this method a handful of times across social media and online, so I tried it myself—and the results genuinely surprised me. What starts out as a few pantry staples quickly turns into something far more flavorful, with a rich, toasty flavor and aroma.

I've now made this Egyptian-style rice multiple times and have learned what techniques to prioritize to get the best results. Plus, I can fill you in on what mistakes to avoid (keep a close eye on the pot while you're cooking!), so that you'll hopefully get the ideal outcome on your very first try (we're talking a dish that's fluffy, buttery and oh-so delicious).

The method is surprisingly easy, and I can almost guarantee that you'll likely never want to make rice another way again.

What Is the Egyptian Way To Make Rice 10x Better?

Fadwa Fadi / Shutterstock.com

At its core, the Egyptian method is beautifully simple—you toast thin pasta strands (vermicelli) in ghee or butter before cooking them together with rice. That one extra step completely changes the flavor and texture. The vermicelli develops a deep golden color and nutty aroma, which then infuses the rice as everything cooks together.

The result is rice that's fluffy, lightly buttery and dotted with toasted strands that add both flavor and visual appeal. It's not heavily spiced or complicated—it just tastes better. In many Egyptian households, this isn't a special occasion dish; it's the default way rice is made, often served alongside stews, grilled meats or vegetables.

When I made it myself, the biggest surprise was how the textures complemented each other. The rice stayed soft and separate, while the vermicelli added just a slight bite and toastiness. It's subtle, but once you notice it, you'll want to make it again and again.

Ingredients Needed for Vermicelli Rice

Julie Andrews

The beauty of this dish is its short, unfussy ingredient list. You likely already have most of it in your kitchen.

You'll need rice (traditionally medium or short-grain, though long-grain works too), vermicelli pasta (those thin spaghetti-like strands broken into smaller pieces), ghee or butter for richness, broth (or water, but highly recommend broth), and salt. Some variations add a little butter or oil at the end for shine, or even onions for extra flavor, but the classic version keeps things minimal.

A few ingredient tips can make all the difference here. Be sure to rinse the rice until the water runs clear—this removes excess starch and helps the grains cook up light and separate, which is a big part of what makes this dish so appealing.

😋😋 SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter 🍳🍔

As for fat, ghee is similar to clarified butter with the milk solids and water removed, giving it a higher smoke point and making it less likely to burn (plus a nuttier, more intense flavor). That said, I used regular butter and still had great results—you just need to keep a closer eye on the vermicelli as it toasts, so it doesn't go too far.

When I tested this at home, I used exactly these ingredients, and it came out tasting like something you'd get at a restaurant. That's part of the magic—it's not about expensive ingredients, it's about technique.

The process is straightforward, but there's one step you don't want to rush—toasting the vermicelli.

You start by melting the ghee or butter in a pot over medium heat. Then in go the vermicelli pieces. Stir constantly as they toast—you'll watch them go from pale to golden to a deeper brown in just a few minutes. This step is where all the flavor develops, and it happens quickly, so don't walk away. Even a few extra seconds without stirring can cause the vermicelli to burn.

Next, you add the rice directly into the pot and stir it around so every grain gets coated in that buttery goodness. This quick sauté helps keep the rice fluffy and separate later on.

Julie Andrews

Then comes the liquid—preferably broth—plus salt. Bring everything to a boil, then immediately reduce the heat to low, cover the pot and let it gently steam. After about 15 to 18 minutes, the liquid is absorbed, and the rice is cooked through. Let it rest for a few minutes before fluffing with a fork.

When I followed these steps, the hardest part was resisting the urge to lift the lid mid-cooking. But once I finally fluffed it, the grains were perfectly separate, with those golden vermicelli threads woven throughout—exactly the kind of result you want to eat immediately.

Vermicelli Rice Recipe Tips and Tricks

Julie Andrews

If there's one thing I learned from making this at home, it's that vermicelli rice is simple—but a few small details make a big difference.

First, watch the vermicelli like a hawk. It can go from perfectly golden to burnt in seconds, and burnt vermicelli will give the entire dish a bitter taste. Stirring constantly is your best defense.

Second, don't skip rinsing your rice. Washing away excess starch helps ensure the grains stay fluffy rather than clumping. That's especially important here, since the goal is light, separate grains with a bit of texture for contrast.

Another tip: Use broth or stock instead of water for a deeper flavor. It's not traditional in every version, but it adds a subtle richness that pairs beautifully with the toasted pasta.

Finally, let the rice rest after cooking. It might seem like a small step, but giving it a few minutes off the heat allows the steam to settle and the texture to finish developing.

Final Thoughts

Julie Andrews

After making this a few times, I can confidently say this method earns its reputation. It doesn't require advanced skills or fancy ingredients—just a small technique shift that delivers a huge payoff.

Once you try it, there's a good chance you'll never turn back.

Despite the Drama in Fairmont Crest, These Two Co-Stars Prove Life on Set Is Still a ‘Vibe’

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 6:06pm

Beyond the Gates star Karla Mosley took to social media to share a behind-the-scenes look at an upcoming moment with co-star Daphnée Duplaix.

Mosley shared a photo of herself and Duplaix on set, smiling and laughing. In the caption, she wrote, “With my sissy @theonlydaphneeduplaix on set it’s always…a VIBE! @beyondthegatescbs@cbstvstudios

View this post on Instagram

On the soap, Mosley plays Dani Dupree, while Duplaix portrays her sister, Nicole Richardson Dupree. Since the series began, both characters have been at the center of multiple storylines, but their bond remains a constant.

Dani’s storyline began quite literally with a bang, when her ex-husband Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) married his mistress Haley Lawson (Marquita Goings). Since then, Dani has moved forward, beginning a relationship with Andre Richardson (Sean Freeman), which led to a spontaneous Las Vegas elopement. She has since navigated married life while returning to her modeling career.

Meanwhile, Nicole’s life took a dramatic turn when her husband, Martin Richardson  (Originally Maurice Johnson, now Keith D. Robinson), was revealed to have had a past affair with Leslie ‘Dana’ Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant). Following the fallout, Nicole has worked to rebuild her life and has recently begun dating again, balancing relationships with Dr. Carlton Fitzgerald (Robert Christopher Riley) and Dr. Kial Rollins (Greg Vaughan).

Both women are also coping with a major family development after their mother was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. As part of the storyline, both Dani and Nicole underwent testing for BRCA gene mutations associated with increased cancer risk. Nicole received a negative result, while Dani tested positive for a mutation, meaning she will need ongoing monitoring.

Both characters are also navigating life as single parents to adult children, Dani with Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) and Naomi (Arielle Prepetit), and Nicole with her son Martin (Brandon Claybon) and daughter Kat (Colby Nixon).

1961 One-Hit Wonder Written by a 14-Year-Old Singer Was One of John Lennon's Favorite Love Songs

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 6:00pm

While countless one-hit wonders have come and gone over the years, some super successful songs manage to carve out a permanent place in pop culture history. In the case of the early '60s classic "Angel Baby," one very famous superfan,John Lennon, made sure the chart-topping tune would never be forgotten.

Rosie Hamlin of Rosie and the Originals was just a 14-year-old aspiring singer performing for tips in a country western band when she wrote "Angel Baby," an ode to teenage romance:

"When you are near me / My heart skips a beat / I can hardly stand on / My own two feet / Because I love you / I love you, I do / Angel baby / My angel baby"

“I wrote a poem about a teenage love entitled ‘Angel Baby,'" Hamlin recalled years later, per Billboard. "We decided to record the song. One hot summer day in 1961 we piled into a car and headed out to San Marcos, CA. In those days San Marcos was out in the middle of nowhere. We finally arrived at this place that looked to us like an old barn. It was actually an old airplane hanger.”

The group recorded over 30 takes on a two-track machine. What happened next reads like something out of a '60s music biopic fantasy: A manager at Kresge’s Department Store in San Diego played the song, which got the attention of a distributor for Highland Records who was shopping that day. Within a few weeks, Hamlin heard DJ Alan Freed playing the song multiple times a day, which led to a record deal (Hamlin's mother had to sign for her because she was too young). Frustratingly, another member of the group, David Ponci, was originally crediting with writing the song, which kept Hamlin from earning royalties until she was able to prove she wrote it.

"Angel Baby" peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week ending Jan. 29, 1961, edging out Lawrence Welk’s “Calcutta."

Store managers and DJs weren't the only people who fell in love with "Angel Baby." Lennon was one of the song's most famous and passionate fans — he even recorded the song for his Rock N’ Roll album (his version wasn’t released until the posthumous Menlove Ave. compilation album).

“This here is one of my all-time favorite songs," Lennon said during his introduction to the song. "Send my love to Rosie, wherever she may be.”

Unfortunately, as Hamlin revealed in an interview on classicbands.com, she and Lennon never actually met.

“I always wanted to, but never got the chance,” she said.

Hamlin's time in the spotlight might have been brief, but it was meaningful. She was even the first Latina to be honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, on their Wall of One-Hit Wonders.

Beloved '60s Musician With #1 Hits Dead at 88

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 5:54pm

In very sad news for classic rock and country music fans, Wayne Moss, the Nashville-based session musician known for his work with legends such as Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton, Roy Orbison and others, has died. He was 88 years old.

Kyle Young, CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, confirmed Moss' death in a statement on social media this week.

“Wayne Moss was a guitarist of dexterous skill and sophisticated taste," the statement read. "Listen carefully to Bob Dylan’s ‘I Want You’ or Roy Orbison’s ‘Oh, Pretty Woman’ or Waylon Jennings’s ‘Only Daddy That’ll Walk the Line.’ You’ll hear innovative electric lead parts that drew attention to Nashville’s world-class musicianship."

"As a studio owner, his doors were equally wide open to pop, rock, and country music," Young continued. "Wayne was a musical torchbearer and a creative pathfinder who left his own resounding stamp on music history.”

Orbison's son, Roy Orbison Jr., also honored his late father's friend in a social media post, writing, "My dear friend, the great guitarist Wayne Moss, has died. A member of 'Nashville’s A-team' of musicians, Wayne was my dad’s good friend and played on all the Roy Orbison Monument hits."

Indeed, Moss can be heard on "Oh, Pretty Woman," "Cryin'" and "Only the Lonely," in addition to such hits as Parton's "Jolene" and Dylan's Blonde on Blonde album. He worked with Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Charley Pride and Joan Baez, and helped found two bands made up of other Nashville session players, Area Code 615 and Barefoot Jerry.

Wayne Moss founded an independent recording studio in Nashville

Moss even founded the independent recording studio, Cinderella Sound, where artists including the Steve Miller Band, Linda Ronstadt, Grand Funk Railroad and many others have recorded over the years.

As Moss said in an interview with Sound on Soundin 2011, Cinderella Sound gave musicians the privacy they couldn't find at other studios.

"We're not even in the phone book, you know?" he explained. "So unless you know somebody that knows somebody, you can't even get in here. But Steve Miller did and Ronstadt did and Leo Kottke did and a lot of folks. So we've had the business, despite the fact that you can't even find us, you know? You can't Google us or anything else, therefore there's not a Gray Line bus tour coming through here every day saying 'Is that Johnny Cash in here? I wanna get his autograph.' That drives artists crazy."

"And Steve Miller didn't want anybody in the studio that wasn't hired to play on it, and that's what he got. He wanted to engineer his own vocals? Fine, go ahead. You know? So we try to bend in whatever direction the artist wants and we've had a lot of people in here over the years."

1992 Film Called One of the ‘Best of All Time’ Turns Out to Be a Remake

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 5:42pm

If there’s one thing as sure as death and taxes, it’s that Daniel Day-Lewis does not miss. The Oscar-winning actor has a knack for elevating every project he touches, and that’s exactly what happens in The Last of the Mohicans, Michael Mann’s sweeping remake of the 1936 film of the same name.

Released in September 1992, Mann’s version is unmistakably his own, bearing little resemblance to George B. Seitz’s straightforward Old Hollywood adaptation, or even to the 1826 novel by James Fenimore Cooper, The Last of the Mohicans: A Narrative of 1757, on which both films are based. Of course, they didn’t have the X-factor that is Mr. Day-Lewis.

Sporting long wavy locks, tanned chamois leather, and moccasins, the British actor stars as Hawkeye and spends the majority of the reel rescuing the woman he loves — Cora, played by Madeleine Stowe — and protecting his people amid the brutalities of the French and Indian War

A notorious method actor, Day-Lewis was lauded for his intense dedication to the part, which included living off the land and learning to build fires from scratch. In an interview withThe New York Times, the actor’s commitment is explored further: Beyond learning to “track and skin animals, build canoes, fight with tomahawks, and fire and reload a 12-point flintlock on the run,” Day-Lewis would unwind between takes by sitting alone under a tree in the sun.

According to Stowe, the movie “was a difficult film on everyone, especially on Daniel. And he never once — not once — complained.”

What truly sets Mann’s 1992 film apart is its sweeping central romance between Hawkeye and Cora, an element largely absent from both the 1936 version and Cooper’s novel. Their chemistry, paired with the film’s soaring Celtic-tinged score by Randy Edelman and Trevor Jones, helped define the film’s emotional power and lasting appeal.

The result was an awards-season standout: The film won the Academy Award for Best Sound and earned seven BAFTA nominations, taking home two.

Today, the film endures as a cinematic essential, with Collider calling it one of the best war movies of all time more than three decades later.

As spring settles in and the outdoors come back to life, the film’s sweeping landscapes and visceral war storytelling feel newly relevant, hitting a bit differently this time of year but also still serving as a historical drama that refuses to fade.

The Last of the Mohicans is available to rent or buy on Prime Video.

Kraft Just Dropped a New Mac and Cheese Flavor Fans Say Tastes Just Like a Disneyland Favorite

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 5:25pm

It is not every day a grocery aisle snack starts sounding like something you would line up for at a Disney park. But that is exactly what is happening right now, as a new Kraft Mac and Cheese flavor begins to appear in select stores. Early buzz, surprise reactions and a whole lot of curiosity are turning this new snack into one of the most talked-about grocery finds of the season.

What has fans especially intrigued is how familiar the flavor feels. Some are saying it tastes like something they have had before at a certain theme park, while others are doing double takes at the idea of ramen-inspired mac and cheese hitting mainstream shelves. For Disney fans who love park-exclusive eats, this one might feel a little closer to home than expected.

The New Kraft Mac and Cheese Flavor Has Disney Park Vibes View this post on Instagram

Food blogger @snackolator shared that the latest release from Kraft is a limited-edition Chicken Ramen Flavored Mac and Cheese, and it is already making its way into select grocery stores, including Albertsons-owned chains. Instead of the classic cheesy profile, this version leans into a savory, ramen-inspired seasoning meant to mimic the comforting taste of chicken ramen broth layered with creamy pasta.

At Disney California Adventure, ramen-style mac and cheese has already built a following as a viral festival dish, appearing at the Food and Wine Festival in 2026. That is exactly why this new Kraft snack is getting so much attention from Disney fans who recognize the flavor profile right away.

Social reactions so far have been mixed but mostly curious. Some early tasters describe it as surprisingly enjoyable, noting that the creamy texture, paired with savory seasoning, makes it feel comforting and unique. Others say it is more of a novelty experience, something fun to try once rather than a pantry staple. Still, even skeptical reviews tend to agree that it is an interesting twist on a familiar classic.

Why Disney Fans Are Paying Attention to This Grocery Store Drop

Part of the excitement comes from accessibility. Unlike exclusive park foods that require a trip to Disneyland Resort, this version of ramen-inspired mac and cheese can be found at everyday grocery stores if you get lucky during the rollout.

Disneyland's food festivals have a history of creating viral dishes that spark online demand long after the event ends. When something similar shows up in a boxed, at-home version, it naturally draws comparisons and curiosity from fans who want a taste without the ticket price.

While availability is still rolling out and not every store has it yet, that only adds to the hype. For now, it sits in that sweet spot between novelty and nostalgia, blending the comfort of Kraft Mac and Cheese with a flavor profile that Disney park fans will instantly recognize.

1974 Classic Album Cover of Dolly Parton Reimagined in ‘Icons Only’ Tribute

Tue, 04/21/2026 - 5:08pm

Megan Moroney is stepping into some big shoes — and big hair — for her latest role. The country music star has turned back time, recreating the iconic look thatDolly Parton had for her Jolene album cover.

RELATED: 1979 No. 1 Hit Ranked Among ‘Greatest Country Songs of All Time’ Became a Timeless Anthem of Forbidden Love

The special debut is all part of the Icons Only feature in People Magazine’s 2026 World's Most Beautiful Issue, which dropped on Tuesday, April 21. Adding to the significance, Moroney, 28, is the exact age Parton was when the album came out.

View this post on Instagram

“I just love Dolly so much. She’s such a talented songwriter, artist, and philanthropist. She’s everything,” Moroney, a lifelong fan of Parton, gushed over the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, 80, in a video post shared on Instagram. “She’s always been super confident. She knows exactly who she is. She’s kind and gracious, over the top in some ways, but she really embraces it. So that’s always been inspiring to me.”

“She’s exactly who she is. And, she’s iconic,” the Georgia native continued. “I am feeling like I’m about to pour myself a cup of ambition, that’s for sure.”

The Transformation

To bring the vision to life, Moroney worked with top celebrity hairstylist Jessica Miller, who layered two wigs on her head. Makeup artist Jessica Candage brought out Moroney's features using “neutral, peach tones.”

As for the apparel, Moroney, who is most-nominated at the upcoming ACM Awards, didn’t wear the exact striped jumpsuit with white balloon sleeves that Parton donned for the cover. However, with the help of stylist Lindsey Dupuis Bledsoe and fashion designer Mariana Romanova, she was able to match the look of the original outfit.

“It took about a day and a half,” Dupuis revealed of piecing together the outfit. “We researched because there's not a lot of pictures of Dolly standing in it; she's seated the whole time. But I have [Parton’s] book, Behind the Seams, and it has a full-length picture of her, so that's how we figured out what was happening.”

“I think Dolly has inspired my style because she’s always thought more is more, and I’m right there with you, girl,” Moroney, whose personal style tends to reflect Parton’s, shared.

The Album

Released on Feb. 4, 1974, Jolene served as the thirteenth studio album from Parton. The collection included her beloved farewell ballad to Porter Wagoner, “I Will Always Love You,” and the title track, both of which topped the country charts.

“I must have learned the songs in the womb,” Moroney told People of the songs. “I don't remember an age where I learned these songs; I feel like I was born and I knew them. So I blame my mom for playing a lot of Dolly Parton in the car. I grew up in a household where it was like, ‘In this house, we respect Dolly Parton.’”

So what would her reaction be if she met Parton in person today?

Moroney says, “I haven’t met Dolly yet, but I’d probably scream….I just need to meet her. I’d probably hug her, I’d ask her to sing. I’d ask her how she gets so much volume in her hair and makeup tips.”
