1973 Hit Film Was Just Ranked the 'Most Universally Beloved Horror Movie' of All Time
Since its release in 1973, The Exorcist has been scaring and fascinating audiences with its creepy, yet contemplative tale of a possessed child named Regan (Linda Blair). So, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Collider recently named the film, based on William Peter Blatty's 1971 novel, as the "most universally beloved horror movie of all time."
Other horror films listed on Collider's ranking included spooky hits like 1982's The Thing, The Shining from 1980, and Halloween released in 1978.
The Exorcist, which has a score of 83 on Metacritic, grossed a total of $430,872,776 worldwide, per Box Office Mojo.
The Director of 'The Exorcist' Shared Why He Thought the Film Was Considered a ClassicIn a 2013 panel at the Dallas International Film Festival, the film's director, William Friedkin, shared why he believed The Exorcist has remained so beloved among horror fans. He said that the movie immediately gained quite the reputation for being terrifying. According to Friedkin, the expectation of the film being frightening makes it an even more exciting and unsettling viewing experience.
"The Exorcist came out, people had heard that it was a scary film. You hear something is scary your mind is preset to be frightened, it's like walking down a street in your own life or going somewhere where something terrible has happened, maybe a bad accident," said the director, who died in 2023 at the age of 83.
He also said that scary films like The Exorcist allow audiences to experience something horrifying while retaining their safety.
"When you come into a movie theater, you have that but you are also in a kind of safe darkness," explained the filmmaker while on the panel. "You're sitting in a movie theater, usually surrounded by other people who are going through the same experience, but you know that you can get up when it's over and walk out. You know this isn't happening to you really."
Stephen Miller’s Pregnant Wife Katie Miller Posts About the White House Correspondents Dinner
Chaos, confusion, commotion, and gunshots marred the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. Saturday evening, an armed suspect forced his way past a security checkpoint and shot at a Secret Service agent before being subdued and arrested.
The suspect was later identified as 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen from the Los Angeles suburb of Torrance, California. Per The New York Post, Allen called himself the “Friendly Federal Assassin” in an anti-Trump manifesto.
High-ranking political officials attended the event, along with President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller and his very pregnant wife, Katie Miller, were among those in attendance. And whether you agree with the pair’s politics or not, watching the videos of the pregnant mother-to-be rushing out of the ballroom isn’t exactly easy to do.

According to reports, President Donald Trump, along with other government officials, were evacuated from the Washington Hilton gun shots. (Photo by Andrew Harnik/Getty Images)Images of the event flooded social media feeds, showing the clearly terrified mother of three (almost four) fleeing the chaotic scene. Miller was photographed helping his wife up from the table and, with Secret Service, escorting her to safety.
Katie later posted (on Instagram) a red carpet moment of herself and Stephen from the dinner, captioning it, “An unforgettable night at the White House Correspondents' Dinner…Our fourth kid certainly had an eventful evening. We are grateful to law enforcement and our incredible USSS.”
View this post on InstagramFriends and fans took to Instagram, sending their well-wishes. Entrepreneur and Evie Magazine founder, Brittany Hugoboom, wrote, “Glad you’re okay. You look beautiful!” while another commenter said, “Glad you and the baby are safe.”
Following the events of April 25, President Donald Trump held a press conference, saying, “That was incredibly unexpected, but incredibly acted upon by Secret Service and law enforcement. This was an event dedicated to freedom of speech that was supposed to bring together members of both parties with members of the press. And in a certain way, it did.” He continued, “A man charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, and he was taken down by some very brave members of Secret Service. And they acted very quickly.”
When Is Katie Miller’s Baby Due?Katie Miller is a conservative political podcaster and media personality. She married Stephen Miller in 2020. The couple has three children, a daughter (born in 2020) and two sons (born in 2022 and 2023). Katie announced her pregnancy on New Year’s Eve with a belly bump Instagram photo. While she hasn’t publicly said when her fourth child is due, judging by her initial post, the best guess is early summer.
21 Types of Fish To Eat (That You Can Easily Cook at Home)
Food isn't just about fuel or nourishment, but that's part of eating, right? Chowing down on more home-cooked meals instead of eating out is one way to ensure you're getting the nourishment your body needs (and less of what it doesn't, like excess salt). It also saves money, a win in this economy. Also, meal prepping in advance can lower your risk of Type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases.
But we often get mixed messages about fish and your health. On the one hand, fish are often included in lists of foods included in the Mediterranean diet. On the other hand, some fish (like salmon) are labeled "fatty fish"—and isn't fat unhealthy? That answer is nuanced, and RDs will dig into that below, sharing the best types of fish to eat.
Also, let's be real: Taste is a big part of eating, too, and fish can feel like an intimidating proteinto cook at home if you're a beginner. Fish at a restaurant has a specific smell, taste and texture, all of which affect your dining experience. It can feel like cooking a fish for one extra minute could rock the boat and sink the meal.
So, perhaps surprisingly, registered dietitians share that tons of fish are easy to cook at home and delicious to eat. To help you get your creative juices flowing, scroll down for 21 different types of fish you can eat that are easy to cook at home.

The Best Fish To Eat, According to a Registered DietitianAs a fitness and nutrition advisor, Dr. Chris Mohr, Ph.D., RD, of Garage Gym Reviews, highly recommends salmon.
"Salmon contains omega-3 fatty acids, which support heart health, help lower inflammation, and may improve triglyceride levels with consistent intake and overall balanced nutrition," Dr. Mohr says.
Also, in case you've missed the social media fodder, protein is important, and Dr. Mohr says salmon has that plus vitamin D.
"From a practical standpoint, salmon is easy to cook at home," Dr. Mohr notes. "It works well baked, grilled or pan-seared, and it cooks quickly. The flavor is rich but not overly fishy, and the texture is tender and flaky, which makes it appealing even for people who do not eat fish often."

What Fish Is Good for Lowering Triglycerides? There are plenty of fish that are good for lowering triglycerides (fat in the body that can lead to heart disease if there's too much).
"Fish like mackerel, salmon, sardines and tuna are all great at helping to lower triglycerides as they are a good source of omega-3s, which can help reduce inflammation in the arteries and lower bad cholesterol," states Destini Moody, RD, CSSD, LD, a registered dietitian at VNutrition.
Indeed, the American Heart Association says that regularly consuming foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids can lower the risk of heart disease. Omega-3s are monounsaturated fats, which are distinct from the saturated fats that can raise the risk of heart disease. Moody points out that fatty cuts of beef and pork are high in saturated fat, so she loves that omega-3-rich fish can serve as a heart-healthy protein source.

Can I Eat Fish With Diabetes?Fish can be a part of a diabetes-friendly diet. "Fish is an excellent food for people with diabetes," Dr. Mohr tells Parade. "It provides protein without raising blood sugar, and many types of fish contain healthy fats that support heart health."
Moody points out that omega-3s can lower the risk of heart disease, which people with diabetes are more at risk of developing.
"Chronically high blood sugar levels in the arteries," Moody says.
A DiabetesCare study found that oily fish (such as salmon) and fish supplements were associated with a lower risk of Type 2 diabetes, but non-oily fish (such as cod or haddock) were not.

21 Different Types of Fish To Eat 1. TunaTexture and Taste: Flaky, firm, meaty, dense and very fishy
This versatile fish is a favorite of Moody's.
"You can get it canned, which means you can keep it forever without worrying about it spoiling in the back of your fridge," she raves.
Moody loves popping open a can of tuna and throwing it into a bowl of pasta or salad—it's delicious and budget-friendly.

Texture and Taste: Medium-firm, flaky and mild
Moody loves recommending tilapia to her clients.
"It’s on the cheaper side compared to other fish," Moody explains. "Buying a bag of frozen tilapia is a great way to have lean protein on hand in a pinch, especially because it is easy to cook, cooks quickly and has a mild flavor that takes up seasoning very well without an overpowering fish flavor."
Texture and Taste: Tender, juicy, plump, mild and slightly sweet
Grocery-store shrimp cocktail is a classic appetizer at gatherings. But shrimp is a cinch to cook.
"This is my favorite of all animal proteins due to the fact that you can use it as a substitute for fattier meats, as it has virtually no fat or carbohydrates," Moody says. "Shrimp is nearly a pure protein source."
Moody adds that shrimp is also purely versatile.
"Have shrimp tacos instead of shredded pork or put them on veggie kabobs instead of steak," Moody suggests. "It has more of a bite than flakier, light fish—just make sure not to cook it for too long, or it gets rubbery."

4. CodTexture and Taste: Firm, lean, large-flaked and mild
Moody is a fan of the very mild but brijney (ocean-y) flavor of cod.
"It’s denser than some other white fish, but it’s great as a sturdy protein if you want to throw it on the grill or bread it," Moody says. "It doesn’t fall apart as easily as some other fish, which is why it’s a prime choice for fish sticks."
Moody adds that cod's low-fat content makes it a good choice for people managing or trying to lose weight.

Texture and Taste: Soft, moist, flaky, rich, savory and slightly sweet
Mackerel is Moody's top pick for "best fish for your health."
"I gotta say—I love mackerel," Moody explains. "I grew up with my mom making mackerel croquettes with mashed potatoes for dinner, and it was one of my favorite meals."
Moody adds that you can also find canned mackerel, making it an accessible seafood option for people on a budget.
"With all the talk of salmon having heart-healthy omega-3s, mackerel can have twice as much of the essential nutrient per serving," Moody raves. "Also, this is a fish with edible bones, which can give you almost a full day’s worth of your daily needs of Vitamin D."

6. SalmonTexture and Taste: Firm, lean and intense (wild-caught); soft, fatty and mild (farmed)
Moody may prefer mackerel over salmon, including for nutritional reasons. But salmon still has a seat at her table, in part because it's an oily fish with a unique flavor.
"Basically, if you close your eyes and eat salmon, you can almost always identify it as salmon," Moody states. "It’s also very hard to miscook it, especially if you pan-sear or have it baked."
To that end, Moody is a huge fan of salmon's versatility. Some of her favorite salmon recipe ideas include BBQ and raw, served with rice and veggies (if you're feeling adventurous). You can also find salmon pouches and eat them with crackers for a protein-packed snack.

7. HalibutTexture and Taste: Thick-flaked, meaty, firm, mild and subtly sweet
Moody says this fish brings the meat—its firm texture makes it feel more like a beefsteak than a light seafood fish. Yet, it remains approachable to seafood newbies.
"It doesn’t have a strong fishy flavor, so it’s a great choice for those who don’t like the fish taste, but want to eat more seafood," Moody explains. "Searing in a pan is a great way to lock in the moisture and flavor of this."

8. Mahi-MahiTexture and Taste: Firm, meaty, mild and slightly sweet
"If you want to get fancy with your fish, a tropical one like mahi mahi is a great way to go," Moody declares.
Moody says Mahi-Mahi's flavor is *chef's kiss" even when it's raw, which is why you'll find it in poke bowls, ceviche and sashimi.
"The flavor is slightly sweet, but it’s got a robust, firm texture, so it’s a favorite of mine to have with some chips and a little bit of ponzu," Moody notes.
Texture and Taste: Moist, flaky, delicate, mild and slightly sweet
Moody reports that sea bass is "considered by fish enthusiasts to be the filet mignon of the fish family."
Well, with a reputation like that!
"It’s got a moist, soft and buttery texture that is coveted by many, which is why it’s on the pricier side compared to other fish," Moody explains. "It has very high fat content, so it's not super ideal for those watching their calorie intake, but the fat content makes it almost impossible to overcook if you don’t know your way around a stove."

Texture and Taste: Delicate, tender, fine-flaked and slightly sweet
Moody describes flounder as "soft and delicate," which is a big win if you're hangry and want some fish fast.
"It cooks in a flash for a quick lunch or dinner and is great for people who are new to cooking fish," Moody explains. "It has a mild flavor that’s very flaky, and I’m personally a big fan of coating it in some parmesan and having it with some roasted asparagus."
Bonus: Moody points out that flounder is high in selenium, an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties that can help protect you from chronic illness as part of a well-balanced lifestyle.

Texture and Taste: Delicate, soft and mild
Dr. Mohr is a fan of the heart-friendly omega-3s in trout, which make it comparable to salmon in terms of nutrient density. He says trout is easy to cook whole or filet, and the mild, delicate and soft taste and texture make it an approachable fish.

12. Arctic charTexture and Taste: Delicate, buttery, rich, mild and slightly sweet
Arctic char tastes like a delicious mix of trout and salmon.
"Arctic char is similar to salmon but often a bit milder," Dr. Mohr explains. "It is rich in omega-3 fats."
And, like both of those fish, it's a straightforward seafood to whip up in the kitchen. Dr. Mohr says it cooks well on a stovetop or in an oven. Its soft, flaky texture and mild taste with a touch of sweetness make Arctic char approachable and versatile.
13. SardinesTexture and Taste: Soft, strong and briny (ocean-like)
Don't underestimate sardines. Dr. Mohr calls them a small but mighty nutritious fish to cook.
"Sardines are small but very nutrient-dense. They provide omega-3 fats, calcium and vitamin D," he explains.
You can often purchase sardines ready to eat, but it's simple to grill, bake or pan-fry them with light seasoning, such as lemon or garlic.
"The flavor is stronger than most fish, but many people enjoy the savory, slightly briny taste and soft texture," Dr. Mohr adds.
14. HaddockTexture and Taste: Flaky, mild and slightly sweet
This cold-water North Atlantic fish is lean and low in fat, packed with protein. Haddock is similar to cod in that it's a regular choice for the "fish" in "fish and chips." But haddock tends to be firmer, making it a better pick if you want fried fish. It's easy to bake and add to chowders, too, thanks to its subtly sweet, mild flavor.
15. WalleyeTexture and Taste: Flaky, delicate, slightly sweet and mild
A top pick among fish fanatics for "best freshwater fish," walleye tastes clean and doesn't have a "fishy aftertaste." Its flaky, firm texture gives it a rich, buttery mouthfeel, though. Sometimes compared to sole in terms of taste and texture, this North American fish shines when pan-fried, baked or grilled. These methods bring out the best in its delicate taste.
16. CatfishTexture and Taste: Firm, mild and slightly sweet
Catfish is considered one of the lowest-mercury fish, making it a top recommendation for pregnant people and children (check with your own healthcare team first, though). It's also on the lower-calorie end but high in omega-3 fatty acids. It's versatile to boot—fry, bake or grill catfish for a swoon-worthy seafood dinner.
17. Red snapperTexture and Taste: Firm, light, sweet, mild and nutty
Red snapper is versatile, largely because of its moist, sweet (if slightly nutty) taste that's not overly "fishy." It has a pinkish-white, lean fish that keeps its shape when grilled, baked, poached or pan-seared, especially with light seasoning such as lemon or herbs.
Expect the flesh to turn opaque white when it's finished.

Poor man's lobster? Puh-leeze. Monkfish is lean and holds its shape much better than other white fish, so it's excellent for throwing into stews, roasting or grilling. Firm, dense and white, monkfish dishes shine thanks to the fish's mild but sweet taste. The clean, mild flavor makes monkfish the perfect canvas for pungent seasonings, like garlic.

19. White perchTexture and Taste: Lean, firm, moist, flaky and mild
Delicate yet firm, white perch, a temperate bass family member, are found in freshwater and Atlantic coast estuaries. The white fish is flaky and has a clean taste, making perch a fine option for pan-frying or baking at home. White perch also plays well with all the fixings in tacos.

20. SoleTexture and Taste: Fine, lean, delicate, flaky and mild
Sole has a mild, delicate flavor similar to that of flounder or trout, but it may be even milder. Sole is a white fish that stays white, even when cooked. Its taste and fine, flaky texture make sole simple to pan-fry. Sole will net you plenty of nutrients, including vitamin B12 and selenium.
21. AnchoviesTexture and Taste: Tender, silky, slightly firm, oily and strong
Anchovies' strong taste steals the show. It's a commonly used oily fish in Italian dishes, like pasta. These fish are firm, but can taste soft and delicate if heated. You can find canned anchovies, making them a budget-friendly seafood option.

Kristin Cavallari’s Steamy Bikini Photo Shoot Celebrates Major Business Win
Kristin Cavallari is celebrating a big business achievement with a steamy photo shoot.
The former reality star, 39, who rose to fame as a teen on the MTV series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, just hit a milestone anniversary with her jewelry company, Uncommon James. Cavallari took to Instagram to celebrate the 9th anniversary of the company with a steamy series of photos and videos that included everything from an orange bathing suit with an oversized beach hat to a topless photo where she has just popped out from under the water.
"9 years of @uncommonjames ✨ Not a day goes by that I’m not endlessly grateful for this brand—what it means to me, what it’s given me, and everything it’s taught me along the way. The highs, the lows, the lessons in between… and the endless joy and creative freedom it brings. Thank you for loving it the way I do 🫶," Cavallari captioned the carousel.
View this post on Instagram What Has Kristin Cavallari Said About Her Plastic Surgery?Never one to hide the details, the former reality TV star opened up last year during an episode of her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast about how she noticed something was off with her breasts.
“My intuition was saying, redo your boobs. Go get your boobs checked out.” Cavallari recalled, US Magazine reported. “At least get a consultation.”
Cavallari consulted her physician, because her “boobs were not laying how I wanted them to lay.”
Unfortunately, when her plastic surgeon looked into it, they realized the condition had become dire.
“He gets in there and I have a ruptured implant, and there is no way of knowing how long this implant was ruptured for,” the Very Cavallari star explained. “Because my implant was ruptured, my body then formed a huge piece of scar tissue around it, which is good because it, kind of, like, holds it all in place. It’s your body’s way of protecting itself.”
Having no idea when that happened, Cavallari suggested she could go through her camera roll and try to figure out “when my boob started going a little f—— cross-eyed.”
Moving forward, Cavallari, who has three children with ex-husband Jay Cutler, said she’s in a place where looking her best is important.
“Right now, in my life is when I need the best boobs imaginable. I’m sure some people won’t understand that and that’s OK, because it’s not your body. It’s my body and I am very healthy,” she noted. “If my vanity is going to come into play with my boobs. That’s one area where I’m like, ‘You know what? Yeah, I’m going to put silicone in my body.’ I’m going to do it and I’m happy about it.”
She concluded by explaining that she has no regrets about going under the knife to get plastic surgery.
“I’ll be honest with you guys, doing my boobs is one of the best things I’ve ever done,” she said.

If my jewelry isn't out where I can actually see it, it might as well not exist. I'm not digging through a tangled pile in a drawer at 7:30 a.m., so everything just becomes an afterthought, and suddenly I'm wearing the same two pieces on repeat. But the second I have it organized and on display? Totally different story.
The right jewelry organizer is like a little style moment built into your getting-ready routine. You remember what you own and start mixing things you forgot about. In fact, a good jewelry setup almost acts like inspiration—it nudges you to throw on that bracelet stack or layer a couple of necklaces instead of skipping it altogether.
Bracelet Bar, $7 at Five BelowFive Below
And when said jewelry organizer looks pretty sitting on your dresser, you're way more likely to actually use it. Which is exactly why this Five Below Bracelet Bar situation is so perfect. For starters, it has an almost vintage look. Actually, when I first spotted it on 5B's website, I assumed it was an old school-style task lamp. But alas, it's the perfect display for holding your favorite bracelets, and it's only $7.

There's the bar for hanging bracelets (obviously), but also smaller, divided trays below it for stashing rings or other accessories.
Five Below's Bracelet Bar also reminds me so much of Kendra Scott's Large T-Bar Jewelry Stand in Antique Brass, which retails for a whopping $100. Now Kendra Scott's version is taller, so in theory could also be used to hang necklaces. But the aesthetic? Totally the same. The benefit of Five Below's (aside from the price) is that it also has those little trays to stash other stuff, whereas Kendra Scott's doesn't.
A bracelet bar would make a fantastic Mother's Day gift, especially if you pair it with a pretty little bracelet for the mom figure in your life. With May 10 creeping up before you know it, you may want to bookmark this Five Below find.
The retailer has a ton of other sweet surprises for mom right now. There's a colorful set of flower-shaped drinking glasses and the daintiest serving tray that she can use for either party hosting or just corralling the small stuff in a decorative way. The options at Five Below feel almost endless, but the good stuff always sells out first, so get it while you can.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Neighbors Are 'Uneasy and Concerned' as Case Nears Fourth Month (Report)
The Nancy Guthrie case is approaching its fourth month of investigation on May 1 and the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie and her two siblings has still not been found. Despite receiving thousands of tips about what might have happened to Nancy, investigators have yet to make an arrest, let alone pin down a person of interest in the case.
While media outlets once lined the streets outside Nancy’s home in the Catalina Foothills, coverage has since slowed and most news teams have left Tucson. Now, only a small number of YouTube live streamers remain in the area.
NewsNation’s Allison Hope Weiner recently spent time in Tucson, where she spoke with residents living nearby. While some reports suggest neighbors are frustrated with continued filming in the area, Weiner noted that many remain concerned about the lack of resolution in the case.
“While I was in Tucson, I also learned that despite the sheriff’s patrols targeted at trespassing journalists, the residents of Guthrie’s neighborhood are uneasy and concerned about the failure to find a suspect in her abduction,” Weiner said in a report.
"One of the neighbors told me that, as a result of Nancy’s kidnapping, people are living differently than before; installing cameras, watching for people in the area who look like they don’t belong and wondering if Nancy’s abductor and potential killer is living in their midst," Weiner continued.
Investigators believe Nancy was abducted from her home in the middle of the night, though the motive behind the alleged kidnapping remains unclear.

Why This ‘Little House on the Prairie’ Alum Claims Her ‘Timid’ Approach Led to Her 1984 ‘Days of Our Lives’ Exit
Days of Our Lives alum Pamela Roylance joined the cast in 1983 as the legacy character Sandy Horton. But the run was short-lived, with Sandy exiting Salem a year later. Now Roylance is reflecting on what went wrong, and why the role never took off as planned.
Roylance recently appeared on Jim Masters’ The Jim Masters Show on YouTube, where she discussed her career, from Little House on the Prairie to decades of work in Hollywood.
Roylance joined Days in 1983 as Sandy Horton, taking over the role from Martin Smith. She became the fourth actress to portray the character, who debuted in 1967 with Astrid Warner.
“Days of Our Lives was wonderful because it was a series regular.” Roylance said.
Sandy was originally introduced as a young girl living with her mother Kitty (Regina Gleason) and sharing a close bond with grandparents Tom (Macdonald Carey) and Alice Horton (Frances Reid). Years later, she followed in Tom’s footsteps and became a doctor at Salem University Hospital.
Roylance said she initially believed landing the soap role meant she would “work in this town forever,” but soon found herself unexpectedly searching for another job.
Looking back, Roylance said she did not fit the era’s typical ingenue image. “They had to work really hard to get me to look the way I looked, with my false eyelashes and the big hair and the sunken cheeks,” she said.
Roylance also praised veteran soap actresses for their ability to command the screen and make viewers invest in their storylines. “I think these women who play these roles are really good because they just are present in their bodies and they know how to take a scene and play a role and make the audience come into them and say, ‘We want to see more of you, your storyline, or more with this guy or that person.’”
She admitted she had not yet learned how to create that same connection with the audience. “I didn't know what you had to do to send something through the camera to make them keep coming back.”
Roylance added that producers tested her chemistry with multiple cast members, nut nothing clicked. “I wasn't uplifting their story line much,” she said. “And you have to give the writers something to write about. I was pretty timid. I was not wanting to step on anybody's toes.”
Reflecting on Sandy’s exit, Roylance said, “I really think it was my doing that ended the role. I should have brought something different to the table.”
Still, Roylance now sees the experience as valuable. “I think it's beautiful to find out as an actor where are your strong points, where are you comfortable, where are you going to be really happy in your skin, in that wardrobe, and playing roles that fit that.”
Days of Our Lives streams new episodes weekdays on Peacock.
Al Pacino and Beverly D’Angelo Reunite for the Actor’s 86th Birthday, 22 Years After Splitting
Al Pacino and Beverly D'Angelo reunited for the legendary actor's 86th birthday, 22 years after they split up.
D'Angelo, 74, who originated the role of Ellen Griswold alongside Chevy Chase‘s Clark W. Griswold in the first National Lampoon’s Vacation film in 1983, played the iconic role of Ellen in several follow-ups, including 1989’s beloved holiday version, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Pacino, of course, is known for diverse roles ranging from The Godfather and Dog Day Afternoon to Carlito’s Way and Scent of a Woman. But the former couple, who split in 2004, got back together this week to celebrate the actor's big 86th birthday, Page Six reported. Now that's keeping the friendship alive!
Pacino and D'Angelo Have Twins TogetherPacino and D'Angelo have twins, Anton and Olivia, together. Back in March, Pacino hit the red carpet with the twins, as well as his elder daughter, Julie, for the opening of her film I Live Here Now at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica back in March. I Live Here Now, a horror thriller, was actually Julie Pacino’s directorial debut!

What Has D'Angelo Said About Having Twins at 49 With Pacino? When asked about raising kids in Hollywood, D’Angelo said that lifestyle wasn’t for her.
“I did not raise my kids in that culture,” D’Angelo told PEOPLE. “If I would have been more focused, maybe I would have had a bigger career, but I was focused on my kids, to tell you the truth.”
D'Angelo previously spoke about giving birth at 49, a rarity in any culture.
“I had kids really late — I gave birth to twins six weeks after I turned 49,” she told Fox News Digital. “It was really important to me to place them at the center of my world. So, I wouldn’t do any films that would take me out of town for any amount of time. I did television, I did some indie films and things like that, but my focus was really to always be emotionally and physically available to my kids.”
D’Angelo went on to say that she was inspired as a parent by the stable childhood her parents gave her while growing up in Ohio.
“There’s this thing that happens when you have kids,” D’Angelo shared. “All of a sudden, you go, ‘Oh, wait a minute, my parents.’ You look at how you were raised. Maybe some of the things that you thought were a drag when you were a kid turn out to be exactly what you want to pass on. And my value system has never included a lot of hype or a lot of focus on fame.”
Ultimately, D’Angelo chose to put her children before her acting career.
“And I’ve got to make a confession: I’m not a careerist,” she told the publication. “I have never been. Everything I’ve done is because I love a script or a character. But as far as pursuing a career, I wasn’t somebody who had a dream like, ‘One day I’m going to grow up and become an actress.’ That’s not me. I never thought, ‘If I do this role, maybe I’ll get this other role.’ I’ve always just been motivated by a profound need to express myself.”

Nancy Guthrie Update: Ed Smart Urges Caution as Rumors Involving Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni Persist
Ed Smart is speaking out about the ongoing attention surrounding the Nancy Guthrie case, urging the public to focus on verified information rather than speculation. In new remarks made during an interview with NewsNation, Smart cautioned against conspiracy theories and emphasized the importance of keeping attention on credible updates as discussions involving Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni continue to circulate.
“I think that it’s really important to, one, not go into conspiracy theories. I don’t think there’s much value in that. Of course, the Guthries have been looked at," Smart told NewsNation.
"[The family has] supposedly been cleared. So that should no longer really be out there in the public, regardless of whether people are searching around the house or not."
Smart's comments come as online chatter about Annie and her husband—the last people to see Nancy, 84, alive prior to her Feb. 1 disappearance, persists.
"I think it's important to keep information coming. Savannah and the family—more information about their mother," Smart continued. "That was one thing that our family continually tried to do was to keep new information coming out. We don't know what law enforcement has, whether they have any DNA that's of any value or not. Sometimes law enforcement really does not disclose what they have and that can be problematic."
"I think keeping Nancy's face out there, more information about Nancy, is really key," Smart said.
Smart has first-hand experience with missing persons cases, as his daughter Elizabeth Smart was abducted at age 14 and held for nine months before being rescued in 2003. Her disappearance sparked a nationwide search and became one of the most widely followed cases in the United States.
Someone in the public recognized Elizabeth while she was out walking with Mitchell nine months after she went missing and alerted authorities. This is likely the reason that Ed says that it's important to keep the story alive. As we've heard throughout this case: Someone out there knows something.

1962 ‘The Twilight Zone’ Episode Was Ranked as Having the Best Plot Twist in the Entire Series
TV Line recently compiled a list of the “10 Best The Twilight Zone Plot Twists.” Coming in at number one was the season 3, episode 24 masterpiece, “To Serve Man.” This episode revolved around aliens named Kanamits who came to earth and promised to help humanity. (Spoilers ahead!)
Throughout the episode, the Kanamits shared their technology and tried to solve world hunger with the help of a book they had, titled To Serve Man. Since they were so kind, they ended up lowering everyone’s guard. However, it was ultimately revealed that the book was a play on words. It was not a guidebook to help the humans. It was a cookbook to eat the humans. The Kanamits were only helping humanity in order to make them as healthy as possible before consuming them.
One reviewer of this classic episode said, “Besides being The Twilight Zone at its best, Rod Serling produces an entire 1950's sci fi movie in only 25 minutes. A complete detailed story/mystery is presented in a complex episode that keeps moving along. I don't know of another episode that is this complex and delivers quite a punch.”
Some other iconic episodes that made the list of “Best Plot Twists” were “Eye of the Beholder,” which was about a woman whose face is hidden behind bandages, and “Time Enough at Last,” which is about a bookworm who ends up stranded after a nuclear apocalypse.

The Twilight Zone, which was created and hosted by Rod Serling, was an anthology television series that ran from 1959 until 1964. Throughout its run, which consisted of 156 episodes, it won several Emmy Awards and Hugo Awards. In 2013, TV Guide ranked it No. 5 in their list of greatest shows of all time. It also inspired the popular Disney attraction, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, which originally opened in 1994.
A reboot of The Twilight Zone was released in 2019 by Simon Kinberg, Jordan Peele, and Marco Ramirez. Like the original, it featured stories of science fiction, mystery, and horror.
Ellen DeGeneres Just Announced a New ‘Finding Nemo’ Short, and Parents Are Feeling Nostalgic
Disney’s Finding Nemo hit the big screen 23 years ago. And now it looks like a new addition to the popular Pixar flick is in the works. Ellen DeGeneresrecently announced that she’s returning to the Nemo-verse to reprise the role of Dory. So if you watched the iconic animated flick on repeat with your kiddo two decades ago, get ready to feel nostalgic.
Deadlinefirst broke the news, reporting that Pixar plans to produce an as-yet-unnamed Finding Nemo short. While there’s no information on the plot or release date, DeGeneres did appear to confirm the project. The comedian posted a screenshot of Deadline’s article on her Instagram page over the weekend, captioning the pic, “Excited about this.”
View this post on InstagramEven though we don’t know much about the mini movie, fans of the franchise are already excited about the upcoming addition. One commenter wrote, on Ellen’s post, “This is everything…Dory is back!” and another gushed, “This is incredible news.”
While most of the comments applauded the new project and praised Ellen’s involvement, some had a more cynical take. Following allegations of a toxic workplace in 2020, the former TV host ended her self-titled talk show in 2022. In 2024, DeGeneres addressed the scandal in her Netflix comedy special, For Your Approval, writing on Instagram, “Here we go! To answer the questions everyone is asking me—Yes, I’m going to talk about it. Yes, this is my last special.” She also humorously added a cute quip about her wife, “Yes, Portia really is that pretty in real life.”
During the 2024 Netflix special, Ellen wove the controversy into her standup script, saying, “A few years ago, I started ending my show by saying, ‘Be kind to one another.’ Here’s the downside: I can never do anything unkind, ever, now.” She also said, “Yeah, you all heard I was mean. Everybody heard that I was mean. Everywhere I go, I know everyone’s heard that I’m mean. I know when I walk into a restaurant, people are watching, waiting to see if I’ll be mean.”
Based on her recent post’s comments, some former fans haven’t forgotten this scandal. One mused, “Disney’s still working with Ellen? Weird,” while another wrote a simple, “No thank you.”
This project is the first acting role DeGeneres has taken on since she voiced Dory in the 2021 miniseries Pixar Popcorn. The 68-year-old celeb (and her wife, Portia de Rossi) left Hollywood in 2024, moving to the rural Cotswolds in England. As of now, Disney has yet to provide additional information on the new production or DeGeneres’ involvement.
13 Dairy Queen Items You Forgot About
When it comes to ice cream, it's hard to think of a more recognizable name than Dairy Queen. The beloved treat shop, first founded in the mid-1940s, has been the backdrop for many hot-fudge-covered childhood memories and continues to capture us even as adults. It occupies this unique space between being deeply rooted in the penny-candy, soda-shop nostalgia of the past and simultaneously feeling like a place that never goes out of style. Which isn't too hard because who doesn't love ice cream?
Regardless of whether you're a Blizzard fanatic who's tried almost every new concoction or you prefer simpler pleasures, like a tasty cherry-dipped cone, there's something for everyone at Dairy Queen. Of course, once you find your thing, there's nothing worse than taking a trip to the beloved home of the Dilly Bar only to find out that they've taken your go-to order off the menu completely. Waffle cones gone, Blizzard flavors eliminated, dreams crushed—it could very well be treated as a crime scene.

The sad truth is that while there are some constants (like the cutesy curl at the end of a cone), nothing lasts forever. Not even your favorite menu item. If you've ever wondered exactly how Dairy Queen determines which items get the proverbial axe, or want to experience some mouthwatering FOMO, we've rounded up 13 Dairy Queen items you forgot about and which ones might be making a comeback. Keep reading to find out more.
What Dairy Queen Menu Items Have Been Discontinued? There is a reality where Dairy Queen never got rid of the Girl Scout Tagalongs Peanut Butter Patties Blizzard, but sadly, we haven't quantum jumped to that timeline yet. Every now and then, DQ makes the difficult decision to discontinue a fan favorite for one reason or another, and regardless of the size of that specific treat's fandom, the pain left behind is just as enormous. Here are seven discontinued Dairy Queen menu items.
1. Waffle ConesInk N Propeller / Shutterstock.com
This might come as a surprise because it definitely was to me, but you won't find too many Dairy Queen locations making waffle cones anymore. While a few remain due to differences among franchisees, waffle cones have largely been phased out of the DQ zeitgeist. Despite their obvious popularity, freshly made waffle cones require significant additional labor and have a notoriously short shelf life, making them a costly, high-waste item. This led many franchise owners to remove them from the menu.
2. Sour Patch Kids BlizzardWhile over 170 Blizzard flavors have been introduced since its creation, the Sour Patch Kids Blizzard was surprisingly among Dairy Queen's most popular flavors. Redberry flavored soft serve blended with Sour Patch Kids Bitz—a combo that shouldn't have worked, but it definitely did. It worked so well, in fact, that since it's very one-the-nose sour, sweet and gone release in July of 2019, fans have been petitioning for it to make a comeback. There's even an ongoing campaign on Change.org.
3. DQ Fudge BarsNot to be confused with the iconic Dilly Bar, Dairy Queen once stocked Fudge Bars, a low-calorie, sugar-free alternative to some of the brand's other sweets. Unfortunately, the healthier sweet option wasn't a bestseller for the brand, leading to its discontinuation in 2022.
4. Butterscotch Dipped Cone @dqshelbytwpmiIt’s back!!! Butterscotch cone dip 💛 #dq #dairyqueen #icecream #conedip
♬ The Feels - LabrinthWhen it was announced that the Butterscotch Dipped Cone would be removed from menus, fans couldn't contain their disappointment. The fan-favorite flavor was a menu staple at Dairy Queen for decades before being relegated to seasonal status sometime in 2019. Today, you can find the flavor as a limited-time seasonal offering or grab a box of Butterscotch Dilly Bars instead.
5. Wet WalnutsWe promise not to go nuts with puns on this one, but yes, you're reading that correctly: Wet Walnuts were, in fact, a previous topping at Dairy Queen. Despite its name that would make even the most mature fifth grader crack up, wet walnuts were essentially a sticky-sweet topping made of walnuts or walnut pieces mixed with maple syrup. You could get them added to your sundae or blended into a milkshake, and although they weren't the most popular topping on the menu, they had one shell of a cult following. Sadly, due to rising ingredient costs and general lack of demand from fans, DQ removed the topping from menus sometime in 2022.
6. Chocolate Sprinklesrafastockbr / Shutterstock.com
Personally speaking, the only sprinkles we acknowledge are rainbow, but no judgment if you prefer chocolate. At least not directly to your face. That being said, we can totally understand how it must've felt to find out that Dairy Queen had decided to phase out chocolate sprinkles for good in June 2022. The move was made in response to supply chain issues and was ultimately intended to promote menu consistency across the stores. Please accept our condolences.
7. Cherry Dipped Cones @theonly_iris🍒 Cherry Dipped @Dairy Queen Ice Cream! 🍦 OMG guys! I’m OBSESSED!! Beautiful @yonnas.yums made me do it!! 😍 go show her tons of love ❤️ #icecream #cone #icecreamcone #dairyqueen #cherrydippedcone #mukbang #mukbangeatingshow #mukbangasmr #eating #eatwithme #eatingsounds #eatingvideo #eatingasmr #asmr #asmrsounds #asmrmukbang #asmrvideo #dessert #sweet #cherry #creatorsearchinsights #fyp #fypシ #for #foryoupage #crunchy #crunchyasmr #crunchysounds #hungry #letseat
♬ original sound - THEONLYIRISWe can't talk about Dairy Queen without mentioning the Cherry Dip. Although it's a newer flavor for the chain, the bright red candy shell is arguably one of the brand's most popular, and once you taste it, you'll understand why. It's the perfect complement to DQ's creamy, vanilla-laced soft serve, and it doesn't hurt that its bright red color looks stunning in photos. With that in mind, it makes sense that when Dairy Queen announced that the cherry dip would be phased out of stores in 2023, fans were ready to riot. Fortunately, the beloved flavor has returned since then as a limited-time seasonal offering rather than a permanent menu item.
What Were the Most Popular Dairy Queen Treats in the Past?Over the course of its 85-year history, Dairy Queen has consistently delivered countless treats that practically cater to every kind of sweet tooth. From sundaes and malts to the iconic Blizzard, DQ is and always will be the place to go when you're looking for a little bit of a sugar rush. And if you've ever wondered what else is popular at Dairy Queen, we've rounded up 5 of the most popular treats from the past below. You might even be able to find some in a very special place.
1. Monkey TailsBrent Hofacker / Shutterstock.com
Unless you grew up in the 1970s and '80s, you've likely never heard of Monkey Tails, a frozen banana on a stick dipped in chocolate. It was a simple treat that looked like, well, a monkey tail, and it was a staple on menus for about 20 years, dating back to the '60s. Although there has never been a concrete explanation for why this perfect summer treat was discontinued, some fans speculate that it was simply to make room on the menu for other items. Luckily, if you're still craving one, you can find them at the historic Moorehead, Minn., location, along with various other nostalgic sweets.
2. Mr. Maltie View this post on InstagramThis one might not ring any bells for the millennials out there, but at one point, Dairy Queen had a mascot named Mr. Maltie and a treat to go with it. It was essentially a frozen chocolate malt on a stick, first introduced in 1949. It was a staple on menus until the late 90s, when the brand all but stopped marketing the product. The trademark for the character was renewed in 2004, then canceled in 2016. Luckily, the Moorehead location still sells them if you'd like to try one for yourself.
3. DQ Bakes Apple TartDQ Bakes sound like some made-up mythic concoction, but at one point, they were one of Dairy Queen's most beloved menu items. The premise was that you could get a rich, decadent treat featuring something warm, topped with DQ's classic soft serve. While the Apple Tart was by and away the most popular flavor, fans could also choose between a Triple Chocolate Brownie or a Fudge-Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookie. The decadent treats were unfortunately discontinued in 2022, and there's no word on whether or not they'll return.
4. Oreo Brownie Earthquake Sundae @auburnhillsdqDo you remember this? #dairyqueen #dqtok #dq #dqn #fyp #fypシ #foryou #icecream #CloroxMistChallenge #LinkBudsNeverOff #oreo #yes #xyabca #fouryou #sta
♬ Fantasy (feat. O.D.B.) (Bad Boy Fantasy) - Mariah CareyAs someone who loves anything to do with Oreos, this one is very near and dear to my heart. It had everything you could want in a sweet treat. Rich, creamy soft serve, chunks of fudgy brownies, hot fudge, marshmallow sauce, and a shower of Oreo crumbles—what's not to love? Unfortunately, the treat is no longer a permanent item on menus, although most of the ingredients are readily available for other treats, so you can still build one yourself. Simply ask for a sundae with all the extras.
5. DQ JetThis one might not ring a bell for anyone who isn't Gen X, but from the late '50s through the '70s, Dairy Queen carried the DQ Jet, which was essentially a push pop like a creamsicle, available in vanilla, chocolate, and other rotating flavors. It was made as a nod to the ongoing space race at the time and sold for a meager 10 cents. You could also get a six-pack for 55 cents or get 11 for $1. Unfortunately, it was discontinued in the '70s, with no plans to return.
6. Old Fashioned SodasAlthough we've never thought of Dairy Queen as anything other than an ice cream parlor, its age should give you an idea of what the early days behind the counter might have looked like. Just when the beloved sweet shop first opened its doors, soda fountains were entering their golden age, and naturally, DQ had to jump on the bandwagon. Up until the late '90s, Dairy Queen sold its own Old Fashioned Sodas, which featured a variety of syrups, soft serve and carbonated water.

Why Does Dairy Queen Retire Menu Items?Like most businesses, Dairy Queen occasionally retires menu items for a variety of reasons, including ingredient availability, declining sales, or a general refresh to offer customers something new. Also, from an operations perspective, it's a lot easier to manage a menu with set items and a few exciting features than one that looks like the booklet at The Cheesecake Factory.
That said, because Dairy Queen is a franchise, menu options can vary by location, so you might get lucky and stumble upon a waffle cone or Monkey Tail in the wild. Or you could take a road trip to the historic Moorehead, Minn., DQ, and check out a variety of vintage treats still on the menu.
Are Any Discontinued Dairy Queen Items Coming Back?Thankfully, we've spent enough time talking about everything we're missing and are now looking ahead to which discontinued items we can expect to see back in stores—even if only for a limited time. While there's no word on whether Mr. Maltie is being reborn or if Dairy Queen will revamp the health-minded DQ Breeze, the brand has plenty in store for 2026, including a packed summer lineup of returning faves.
As far as blizzards go, you can grab a S'more's, Cotton Candy or Oreo Dirt Pie Blizzard, all returning just in time for the warmer weather. The chain is also bringing back the Brownie Batter Blizzard as well as the beloved Cherry Dip. And the fun doesn't stop there. Dairy Queen is also introducing a barrage of new flavors, including a Strawberry Angel Food Cake Blizzard, a Fruity Pebbles Shake, and a Cinnamon Toast Crunch Dipped Cone. Consider your summer treat calendar booked.
What Is Dairy Queen Best Known for Today? It's pretty much impossible to mention Dairy Queen without simultaneously mentioning the iconic Blizzard. Since it was first introduced to the world in 1985, the Blizzard has become Dairy Queen's global calling card, often served with the signature flip upside down to showcase just how thick and luscious it is, even after it's been expertly blended with mix-ins. It's one of those things that tastes amazing at a molecular level, like it was always meant to exist.
To get even deeper, the real unsung hero of DQ is that expertly crafted soft serve that's the base of nearly everything on the menu. Beyond that, Dairy Queen is the perfect one-stop shop, no matter what kind of treat you're in the mood for. Now, if you'll excuse us, we just got the sudden urge to try every Blizzard on the menu.

Days of Our Lives star Michael Roark’s final air date has reportedly been revealed, with his current storyline set to reach a turning point sooner than some viewers may have expected.
According to Soap Opera Digest, Roark’s last appearance is scheduled to air on Wednesday, April 29.
While exact details surrounding Jeremy’s exit remain under wraps, spoilers indicate Jeremy may misread a moment involving Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) whom he has been reconnecting with in recent weeks.

Roark debuted on the soap on October 3, 2025, when Jeremy Horton returned to Salem. Owen later kidnapped both Jeremy and Stephanie before ultimately being caught and arrested.

Dancing with the Starspro Brandon Armstrong will be leaving the show's tour earlier than expected.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, the dancer shared in a video message that due to a broken elbow, he'll be heading home to seek further medical attention.
"No easy way to say this and obviously I'm super bummed but as you can tell, I'm hurt," Armstrong, whose arm was in a sling, said. "Long story short, I have a broken elbow. It could be a lot worse, it could obviously be a lot better, so I spoke with the doctor and I've been counseled from that doctor and the team on tour that I need to go home and look at it and try to figure it out, see what the next steps are so that I can get healthy again."
View this post on InstagramArmstrong, who has been a pro on the ballroom dance competition show for 8 seasons, also spoke about how being on tour and meeting fans was so special to him as he thanked everyone for their support.
"I remember when I was first on the show I didn't get the opportunity to go on tour and I saw my friends going out and performing live but really getting to meet you guys every night and I wanted that so bad," he recalled. "So me not able to finish this tour, especially when we're so close, it's so hard for me to accept that, I'm going to miss that, I'm going to miss you guys and I think that's what's the hardest thing for me."
Looking on the bright side though, Armstrong said he's looking forward to getting better so he can be back to dancing for the DWTS fan convention happening later this summer.

It tells the story of two ranch workers, George and Lennie, who are looking for work during the Great Depression.
Although the book has been banned frequently in schools, it is still one of the most well-known stories of all time. The title, Of Mice and Men, was inspired by a poem written by Robert Burns, called "To a Mouse." It famously says, “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”

In 1985, Lionel Richietopped the charts with a hit single that was released as part of a musical drama film. The pop track would also end up winning two major awards in 1986, an Oscar for "Best Original Song" and a Grammy.
Directed by Taylor Hackard, White Nights starred Mikhail Baryshnikov, Gregory Hines, Jerzy Skolimowski, Helen Mirren, and Isabella Rossellini, with it becoming her big screen debut as an actor. The main concept of the film focused on its use of dance and choreography by Twyla Tharp. While the film wasn't the biggest success among critics, it still succeeded at the box office, having made over $40 million.
White Nights follows Nikolai “Kolya” Rodchenko (Baryshnikov), a Soviet ballet dancer who defected to the United States. When his plane is forced to land in the USSR, he’s taken back into custody and pressured to perform again for the Soviet government. Assigned to keep an eye on him is Raymond Greenwood (Hines), an American tap dancer who had previously defected to the Soviet Union.
Despite being on opposite sides politically, the two form an uneasy bond as they navigate surveillance, loyalty, and their shared passion for dance. Koyla struggles with the idea of returning to a life he once escaped, with Raymond devising a plan to help Koyla regain his freedom.
White Nights had successful hits like "Separate Lives" by Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin, but Richie's "Say You, Say Me" became the film's standout success. It was ranked by Billboard at No. 14 as one of the "Top Movie Songs" of all time. Richie was approached by the film's director to develop the track, and as Richie was unable to include "White Nights" in the title, he came up with "Say You, Say Me." Audiences hear the track during the film's closing credits, and it would end up winning an Oscar and a Grammy in the same category.
The song was created alongside James Anthony Carmichael, but it wasn't included in the film's soundtrack for a reason. In 1983, Richie was on a career high after releasing his album Can't Slow Down, and his record label didn't want his first single to be under a different company. Instead, they released "Say You, Say Me" as part of Richie's 1986 album Dancing on the Ceiling.
"Say You, Say Me" also topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts at No. 1 and on the Adult Contemporary charts. Critics called the ballad an "enduring love song" of the '80s, while also giving Dancing on a Ceiling mixed reviews. Its accompanying music video includes scenes from White Noise.

We Asked 3 Psychologists What Daily Habit Brings Families Closer Together—They All Said the Same Thing
"Family is everything" is an excellent cross-stitch line, and you may see framed photos with the slogan at HomeGoods or Target. Family isn't everything, but psychologists agree it counts for a lot.
"A close-knit family is important because it acts like a safety net," says Dr. Emily Guarnotta, Psy.D, PMH-C, a psychologist and founder of Phoenix Health. "When life gets hard, knowing you have a team in your corner helps you navigate those tough times."
Dr. Guarnotta explains that people with close family ties naturally feel less isolated and alone, pointing to research that links loneliness to physical and mental health concerns. The research goes against the often individualistic, pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps messages our society pushes. Yet, that mindset is not in our DNA.
"As humans, we are wired for connection, especially within our primary relationships," says Dr. Crystal Saidi, Psy.D, a licensed psychologist with Thriveworks. "A close-knit family relationship creates a sense of emotional safety and can directly impact confidence, mental health and behavior."
Importantly, some people may need to go low or no-contact with their biological families, such as if there is a history of abuse or substance misuse. If that's you, know that you do not have to live in loneliness.
"Although friends, church and social groups can never replace the family, for those who lack family ties, it’s important to develop these connections in order to receive some of the same benefits," saysDr. Karyne Wilner, Psy.D., a psychologist and the author of Releasing Toxic Anger for Women.
Whether you're trying to bond more with your chosen or biological family, daily rituals can go a long way toward that. If you do nothing else, three psychologists agree that this daily habit brings families closer together.

What Brings Family Members Closer Together?PixelsEffect/Getty Images
Dr. Guarnotta is big on foundational moments and priorities that foster closeness between family members.
"What brings family members closer together isn’t anything groundbreaking," she says. "It’s small, consistent moments of connection. Families are closer when members feel seen and heard by one another. It’s about creating a safe space where everyone feels like they belong and that their voice matters."
That's not to say big moments don't have a way of bringing families together.
"Family members become closer when an event or situation brings them together so that each person can participate and have a role," Dr. Wilner explains. "Perhaps they are solving a problem, taking a family vacation, coping with a stressful event, helping a sick relative or responsible for designing a holiday ritual."

The #1 Daily Habit That Brings Families Closer Together, According to 3 PsychologistsPsychologists agree that daily screen-free time is a game-changing habit that brings families closer together.
"Time away from screens is important because it provides a space to connect," Dr. Guarnotta states. "When we’re on our screens, we might be together, but emotionally, we are alone. Screen-free time allows for eye contact and active listening. It says to each other, 'I value our relationship more than this device.'"
Of course, phones are such a regular part of our daily lives—from TikTok videos to work emails. Dr. Wilner concedes it can be hard to get everyone in the family to agree to implementing a rule of no screens for a certain period. Yet, it's worth working through the friction for all of the benefits, Dr. Guarnotta mentions.
"When each family member agrees that there is a need for screen-free time and screen-free hours are defined, the benefits to the family as a whole are amazing," Dr. Wilner says.
Dr. Saidi echoes these sentiments.
"When screens and devices are involved, one can be physically present but not emotionally," she notes.
OK, but what if you don't live with your family and can only communicate via Zoom or FaceTime? Psychologists say that it can work, too, with the right guardrails.
"Connection is about presence... so even virtual meetings can feel meaningful if done intentionally," Dr. Saidi says. "It is important to treat the FaceTime calls like a dedicated connection time, meaning not being distracted or on other devices."

How To Implement a Screen-Free Daily Habit With Your FamilyDr. Guarnotta suggests taking practical, well-paced steps to establish a screen-free daily habit that can bring your family closer together.
- Pick a "no-screens zone." She says the dinner table or car ride to school make good candidates for this zone. "During this time, put all of your phones in a basket in another room so that you’re not tempted to check them," she shares.
- Discuss the benefits. To get buy-in, speak with members of your family of all ages about the benefits of screen-free time. "Teens may be more open if they understand why you are implementing a guideline like this, rather than just feeling forced into it," she reports.
- Start small. You're not going to go from "scrolling every night at the dinner table" to a device-free two-week vacation. "Start small, such as five to 10 minutes, and gradually increase it over time," she advises. "Even just a few minutes can help reset your connection and lower stress levels. From there, build up to longer activities, such as a screen-free outing."

7 Other Core Habits and Rituals To Keep Families Connected 1. Have a daily check-inThis habit can ensure you have a touch point with your family each day.
"You can use daily highs and lows as a check-in, as this is easy to implement and teaches kids that all emotions are welcome," Dr. Saidi explains. "This also normalizes talking about feelings."
Hint, hint: Make it screen-free.
2. Shared mealsShared meals are another great habit to stack on top of a no-screen period. Dr. Saidi says shared meals protect family connection and communication.
"It is less about the actual meal or food and more about the ritual of coming together consistently," she explains. "Even if it is a few times a week, it can make an impact."
3. Volunteering and caretakingDr. Wilner shares that volunteering and caretaking reinforce values like compassion, giving and helpfulness. She suggests that the family decide together on where to volunteer.
"Perhaps you are good at the internet, and your grandfather is struggling to pay his bills on an online banking site," Dr. Wilner says. "Find an hour when you are both available so that you can tutor him. Or, a grandmother may ask to sit with her six-year-old grandson and sound out words with him to improve his reading skill."
Soup kitchens and community litter pick-ups are great ways to help others, too.
4. Bond in natureDr. Wilner says picnics, hikes or car rides through the countryside often become core memories families recall for years to come.
"This activity creates experiences which produce memories and group cohesiveness," Dr. Wilner points out. "Additionally, each family member may have an opportunity to suggest the next location to explore."
5. Make chores a team effortYes, chores can serve as a bonding experience rather than one riddled with strife and nagging.
"When it comes to things like laundry, dishes and yard work, make it a family affair," Dr. Guarnotta says. "These 'boring' activities can become more like team-building, as you’re working toward a common goal together, which in turn helps you feel closer."

6. Create a special language or inside jokesThis one can help you and your family feel like you really get one another on a different level.
"Having inside jokes or code works that only your family understands is a way to feel closer," Dr. Guarnotta shares. "It builds a sense of 'us against the world.'"
7. Have a family question game nightDr. Wilner says this core habit can give families a "deeper insight into each other."
"You are sharing experiences that aren’t normally brought up during ordinary conversation," she explains.
To implement this habit, the psychologist suggests picking a theme for the evening, like "the time I was most afraid,” “the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to me” or “when I really had to face a situation with courage.”

Final TakeawaysBecoming closer as a family is a worthwhile goal, and habits can help you get there. Here's what to keep in mind:
- Family matters. Close family ties can reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, both of which can have profound impacts on your physical and mental well-being.
- Screen-free time fosters connection. Psychologists say screen-free time lets families give one another undivided attention. It opens the door for genuine emotional connection and communication.
- Implement screen-free time practically. Psychologists recommend setting achievable boundaries around screens, like device-free times (dinner or the car ride to school, for instance). Start with small intervals—even five minutes can help—and work your way up to longer periods in analog mode together.
- Proximity doesn't have to get in the way. If you don't live with family members, it's OK to have one screen, like a phone or computer, for FaceTime and Zoom. But psychologists say you'll want to make it a one-screen affair and close other tabs and pause notifications.
- Other habits can also help with family closeness. Volunteering together, engaging in family check-ins and spending time in nature can all build closeness and core memories.
