In the original 1982 movie Poltergeist, the Freeling family faces many terrifying scenes, including the abduction of their youngest child Carol Anne by TV ghosts and her subsequent rescue. However, it's another scene in particular that still haunts viewers to this day. It's the famed Poltergeist clown scene (IYKYK) that comes amid the anxiety-inducing finale of the movie. This chilling clown scene from Poltergeist ranks as one of scariest horror movie scenes of all time.

In their ranking of “10 of the Most Iconic Horror Movie Scenes of All Time,” Collider ranks "Robbie's Clown Doll" scene the third scariest scene. On their scale of scary, the scene beats out some creepy competition, including "Drew Barrymore's Demise" in Scream (1996), Jack Nicholson's infamous "Here's Johnny!" scene in The Shining (1980), and the Chucky "No Batteries" scene in Child's Play (1980), among others.

If you grew up in the ’80s, chances are the iconic clown scene is still fresh in your mind, but for everyone else, let's recap the horrid moment. Poor 8-year-old Robbie Freeling (played by Oliver Robins) is afraid of clowns, or at least one particular clown doll that creepily lounges in a chair in his bedroom. In the movie's pivotal scene, Robbie's clown fears become a reality on a final dark and stormy night.

Because young Robbie has already been completely terrorized in his family's haunted house where they just saved his little sister from television ghosts (and, you know, decided to stay just one more night), Robbie isn't sleeping so well, especially with that extraordinarily creepy clown doll staring maniacally at him. He tries to throw his jacket over the clown, but it falls. Brave kid that he is, though, he tries to roll over and get some sleep.

Robbie soon jolts awake when he hears a thump. He's so afraid to look in the clown's direction, but he knows he's gotta look in order to soothe his fears. Of course, when he looks, the chair is empty and clown is not there! [Cue a lifetime of nightmares.] Robbie, ever determined to be a brave boy decides to check under his bed. One side of the bed at a time! He can't breathe through the fear and neither can viewers. But phew, nothing there ... until he comes back up and that psycho clown literally grabs Robbie and drags him kicking and screaming under the bed.

[Cue the smelling salts, all viewers are now officially cooked for much longer than a lifetime.]

The scene works for a number of reason—the first being that clown and his freaky face! But also the filmmakers build toward the pivotal scene the entire movie, pausing several times around Robbie's typical childhood fears. In fact, by tapping into so many very relatable childhood fears (the dark, clowns, monsters under the bed, things that go bump in the night), the scene really nails it. The filmmakers use their suspense skills and all of our childhood fears against us. Viewers are the victims for sure.

Poltergeist, co-written by Steven Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper, was released on June 4, 1982. Along with Robins, the film stars JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, the late
Heather O'Rourke, the late Dominique Dunne, and Zelda Rubinstein. Earning $74.7 million at the U.S. box office, it was the highest-grossing horror film of 1982. For historical context, it came out one week before the Academy Award-winning, box office hit E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, which was directed and produced by Spielberg. That was one hot summer at the movies.

Culturally speaking, this scene sealed the deal for all clown-fearing folks. Ask any Gen X adult who lived through watching this movie in theaters, and they're probably not planning to revisit the scene anytime soon—unless it's to pass on the trauma by scaring the next generation (why are we like this?). The scene is so universally awful that it'll still scare the pants of new viewers (hopefully at a more appropriate age than all the young teens who watched in the '80s).

Of course, we can't talk about Poltergeist without mentioning the mythical "curse" that surrounds the movie, due to some particularly tragic deaths of cast members around the film's release and sequel releases.

It'll likely come as no surprise to fans of Iron Maiden that the band's hit 1982 song, "Number of the Beast," off the album of the same name, had two spooky sources of inspiration.

Revolver reported that the bassist and songwriter of Iron Maiden, Steve Harris, revealed a dream regarding Damien -- Omen II, released in 1978, gave him the idea to write the intense lyrics in a 1983 interview. Harris was also quick to dispel rumors that "Number of the Beast" was promoting satanic worship.

"Basically that song is about a dream. It's not about Devil worship," said Harris.

Harris made similar comments about the origin of "Number of the Beasts" during a 2019 Rolling Stone interview. He said that the first Omen movie, released in 1976, and Robert Burns' spooky 1790 poem, "Tam o’ Shanter," both served as inspiration.

"It was things like watching The Omen but it was more inspired by a poem [by Robert Burns] called 'Tam o’ Shanter.' I’ve just always liked reading books and watching horror films," said Harris to the publication.

Vincent Price Could Have Been on the Track

In a 2017 interview with SiriusXM Volume, Iron Maiden's singer Bruce Dickinson revealed that he and his bandmates had wanted horror icon Vincent Price as the narrator for the beginning of "Number of the Beast." However, the band realized they couldn't afford the late actor, who died in 1993 at the age of 82, after they were told, "Mr. Price doesn't get out of bed for less than $10,000."

Dickinson said the band paid Barry Clayton, "an actor who used to read the ghost stories on the radio station in London," $300 to do "the intro voice" instead.

Bruce Dickinson Was Unhappy While Recording the 1982 Hit Song

During a behind-the-scenes interview for Classic Albums, Dickinson revealed he had some difficulty recording "Number of the Beast." According to Dickinson, producer Martin Birch made him record the song's "first four lines" over and over for "about four hours."

"I got so pissed off, I was throwing chairs around. I think at the end, I was like, 'What do you want?' And when he got the one that he wanted, he was like, 'Yeah, that's it.' And I was sort of like, 'Why? Why? I don't understand.' And now, I understand, a little bit better," said the British singer, now 67.

During the Classic Albums episode, Birch explained why he wanted the first four lines of the song to sound perfect.

"I wanted a certain atmosphere to be set up on those four lines," said the producer, who died in 2020.

At long last, Iron Maiden will enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026. It’s an honor that’s been a long time coming. The group released their self-titled debut in 1980, and their subsequent albums, Killers, The Number of the Beast, and Piece of Mind, defined heavy metal in the ‘80s.

The group has been going strong ever since, but according to a new interview, lead singer Bruce Dickinson almost bailed at the height of the band’s success. Speaking with The Guardian, Dickinson, 67, revealed that he was burnt out following a grueling 1984 tour in support of the band’s Powerslave album.

“That was definitely a wobble for me,” said Dickinson. “I had no life. It started to feel like a golden cage. And that can’t be right. I started to think: is it worth it? Because I’m young enough to do something else. I was thinking of packing it in to become a fencing teacher.”

“I wanted to walk away, because that’s preferable to losing your soul and everything else that goes with it,” he added. Dickinson was also worried about losing connection with “why I got into music in the first place: because it was a form of dramatic storytelling.”

Dickinson stuck it out for another decade, exiting Maiden in 1993. Bruce saw how grunge-adjacent acts like Soundgarden and Alice In Chains were changing the musical landscape. “ I was looking at it going: are we still on the zeitgeist, or is the Iron Maiden furniture looking a bit faded at this point?” he said.

 “It was a period of reflection and self-doubt. Realizing that I had been in an institution since my early 20s and that I didn’t know how to do anything else outside that institution – I found that absolutely terrifying,” he added. Iron Maiden recruited Blaze Bayley as a vocalist.

The band then released two albums (The X Factor, Virtual XI) that, while appreciated by the devout Maiden fans, struggled to catch fire with the wider metal audience.

Bruce Dickinson rejoined the band in 1999. Maiden has released six albums since, including 2021’s Senjutsu, a commercial and critical success.

Iron Maiden are part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2026, which also includes Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Queen Latifah, Sade, Luther Vandross, Oasis, Wu-Tang Clan, and Joy Division/New Order.

However, Iron Maiden will not attend the induction ceremony.

“As the most observant have already noticed, the band will be on tour in Australia around the November date of the Induction ceremony for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Los Angeles,” said manager Rod Smallwood. “In accepting, Iron Maiden made it very clear to the R&R HoF that the fans always come first and that the shows will, of course, go on.”

However, guitarist Dennis Stratton, who played on the band’s debut, and Blaze Bayley (who subbed in while Dickinson was away), are available. As is Nicko McBrain, who joined in 1982 and retired from touring in 2024.

The Young and the Restless star Joshua Morrow has played Nick Newman since 1994. Now the veteran actor has revealed how he once pitched a crossover with a fellow CBS soap so he can share scenes with his son, Crew Morrow, and says the show’s boss loved the idea.

Morrow shared the story during an appearance on the SOAPY podcast, where he discussed his career and balancing fame with fatherhood.

During the conversation, Morrow spoke about the possibility of crossing over to The Bold and the Beautiful, where his son Crew currently appears.

Morrow said he brought up the idea while vacationing in Monaco where he ran into executive producer and head writer Bradley Bell. “Brad and I have been friends a very long time,” Morrow said. "I love him.”

The actor said the conversation happened shortly after Crew was cast. “I was like, Brad, for all that's holy, please bring me over. I just want to have a scene with my son.”

Earlier this week, People reported that 14 new superfans have been selected for the program's 25th class. The formal induction ceremony is set for Wednesday, April 29, at the company's home office in Columbus. The new members will join a roster that already includes some familiar names: rock legend Alice Cooper, Marvel creator Stan Lee, fashion designer Telfar Clemens, Man v. The people getting inducted this year didn’t take the assignment lightly.

One inductee, Bill Hillegonds of Cedar Lake, Indiana, has eaten at more than 100 White Castles across the country. According to the Chicago Tribune, he once agreed to chaperone a youth group trip to an Ed Sheeran concert — but only after the students showed him a map of every White Castle near the venue. He ended up hitting six locations that night.

The class also includes a mother and daughter who made White Castle their annual Valentine’s Day tradition, two friends who turned their obsession with the chain into a bestselling book, and Elisa Hoffman of Marshall, Texas, who threw her son a birthday party inspired by the iconic Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle order: 50 Sliders, fries, and a drink.

A horror movie that became a cult classic recently topped a list of the "Most Terrifying Movie Endings of All Time." The 1974 movie Black Christmas became a blueprint for horror and slasher movies that is still heavily used to this day.

In a recent ranking, Collider putBlack Christmas in the top spot of their list of the most terrifying movie endings.

Night of the Living Dead made the list, as did The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The first Halloween movie, which debuted in 1978, took the second spot on the list. However, it was Black Christmas that outranked them all.

In the movie, Olivia Hussey plays Jess, who is enjoying her winter break with her sorority sisters. However, they start receiving strange, anonymous phone calls that leave them rattled.

Soon after the calls begin, members of the house are murdered one by one. Police are initially slow to investigate, and the killer remains elusive.

Before the police pin down where the calls are coming from, Jess finds herself alone in the house. Jess learns from a police officer that the disturbing calls are coming from inside the house. Instead of racing out of the house, she goes upstairs to check on two of her sorority sisters. She discovers they are dead, and the killer targets her next.

Jess escapes to the cellar, where her boyfriend Peter finds her. When police catch up to them, Peter is dead. Jess, thinking that Peter was the killer, killed him to save herself.

The movie's final moments show Jess, sedated and alone upstairs in the sorority house, as one solitary officer remains outside. The police believed that Peter was the killer, so they thought Jess was safe.

However, movie viewers discover that the killer is still alive and in the house. The phone rings, and the credits roll. The fate of Jess and the identity of the killer are never explicitly revealed.

In 2022, Comic Book Resources broke down how Black Christmas laid the groundwork for the horror slasher films that followed, including Halloween.

For one, Black Christmas didn't write Jess and her sorority sisters as helpless women. Instead, the site indicated, they made smart choices in trying to resolve the dire situation they found themselves in.

At the time, the way that Black Christmas had a mysterious villain killing people one by one was not a common approach. Now, of course, many horror movies follow that formula.

The blog Perisphere further made the case that Black Christmas was the "Godfather of Slasher Genre." The writer suggested that "Black Christmas was the inception of the serial killer's home invasion on film."

In addition, the killer, often referred to as "Billy," remained mostly unseen. The brutal actions are shown via his perspective, and those were components not common to slasher films at the time.

The fact that Black Christmas leaves just one victim, Jess, alive at the end was also a part of the movie that became a staple in the genre.

"Black Christmas doesn't get the credit it deserves," the writer suggested. "The genre's formal techniques and conventions owe a lot to this movie's silent slasher narrative and its point-of-view shots," they continued.

In addition, they wrote, "Let's not forget that Black Christmas is the movie that reminded audiences that even their homes aren't safe. There's always some place you haven't looked: an attic, a basement, or a closet."

In the last decade, hit films like The Batman (2022) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017) have proven film noir is still a powerful genre.

The realm dates back almost a century, with standout example The Maltese Falcon (1941) nearing its 85th anniversary since hitting the masses.

Starring the iconic Humphrey Bogart, what's considered the first major example of film noir on the big screen is still studied to this day and ranked No. 23 on the American Film Institute's list of 100 Greatest American Movies of All Time.

It's also an adaptation of a renowned book, by the way — and not the first. Before the 1941 movie was released, Dashiell Hammett's text was brought to life on screen two times: once in 1931, directed by Roy Del Ruth, and then in 1936 as a more comedic version of the novel, titled Satan Met a Lady.

In a Reddit thread last year, fans compared the 1931 and 1941 film versions (not even considering the 1936 one since its screwball approach didn't fare well). While Redditors showed their appreciation for the vintage, original adaptation of The Maltese Falcon, they all seemed to agree that the Bogart-led version was the "best."

Then came the 1941 film noir, which was nominated for three Academy Awards and holds a whopping 99% average critics' rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It's no wonder the classic can also be found on the website's list of 300 Best Movies of All Time, ranked at No. 41. Here's the official synopsis:

Detective Sam Spade (Bogart) gets more than he bargained for when he takes a case brought to him by a beautiful but secretive woman (Mary Astor). Let's get this out of the way: Whenever anyone mentions protein shakes, I roll my eyes a little bit. My Experience Trying Ka'Chava for 2 Months

I've now been drinking Ka'Chava shakes a few times a week for two months, and I honestly don't think I'll ever go back. While these shakes are billed as a "meal," that's not how I use them—I aim for around 500 calories per meal, and this shake is about half that. That said, I think they're the perfect afternoon snack. They stop me from getting hangry, and because they're sweet (though relatively low in sugar!), they help me squash my 3 p.m. sugar craving.

I'll drink them for breakfast, too: On a recent Saturday morning, my kids wanted to go to the playground immediately upon waking up. I usually eat pretty early, so I knew if I went to the playground without sustenance, it would wreak havoc on my blood sugar. So I quickly mixed up two scoops of coffee-flavored Ka'Chava powder with 12 ounces of water, and I was good to go.

I'm also happy to report that I haven't gotten sick of the taste. It's creamy and sweet but not too sweet, and I feel full and satisfied afterward. Overall, I feel more energetic—and I'd venture to guess this is because most days, my shake replaces a sugary afternoon snack. I also love knowing that I'm hitting my protein goals more easily, and even getting some fiber in there, too.

My one complaint is that these shakes don't dissolve super easily. They require a lot of shaking and stirring to reach their full liquid form without random clumps making an appearance. Sometimes I end up dumping my powder and water (or milk) in a blender, which gets the job done way faster. But then I have to clean my blender, adding an extra step I'd rather skip.

Now that Ka'Chava is part of my weekly routine, I can't imagine not having it on hand for when hunger strikes and there aren't any healthy snacks around. And remember, this is coming from the ultimate protein powder skeptic. So: Don't knock it 'til you try it!

Days of Our Lives fan favorites Charles Shaughnessy (Shane) and Stephen Nichols (Steve) reunited to participate in the PanCan Purple Stride Walk to raise money for pancreatic cancer.

It was a day to remember the late great soap legend Drake Hogestyn(John), who died from pancreatic cancer in September 2024.

Nichols led the charge as the team captain for Hogey’s Home Runner. The name was a nod to Hogestyn’s nickname when he was a baseball player.

Shaughnessy posted a picture of him with Nichols at the walk. It was smiles all around for the men, who were there for their friend.

“Congratulations to @stephen_e_nichols and Hogey’s Homerunners on raising over $50k to fight Pancreatic cancer! You can still donate at link. Doing it for Hogey!” the soap star shared as his caption.

Nichols showed up in the comments to thank his pal for being part of the event. “Thanks for coming out and supporting PanCan and Drake, Charlie. So great to see you!💜”

Martha Madison (Belle) also chimed in to say, “So great seeing you today! Xx.”

In an interview with CBS LA Mornings, Nichols admitted that Hogestyn would be so proud of people coming together to walk to raise money for pancreatic cancer. “He’s the kind of guy who would’ve been at the forefront of this move me if it had been someone else,” Nichols declared.

Releasing a piano-driven rendition of “Dreams” on her 2019 album, When I’m Alone: The Piano Retrospective, Lissie also released a raw, acoustic version of “Go Your Own Way” (originally recorded for a tea commercial) on her 2021 EP, Covered Up With Flowers. That one has since racked up nearly 40 million streams on Spotify.

“It’s been an interesting thing that kept pulling me back without intentionally trying to align myself with this Fleetwood Mac comparison,” she says. “But they’re such an amazing band. I’ll take it, I love it!” 

Last year, Lissie released an ethereal take on “Everywhere” as part of her EPThank You to the Flowers, but it’s actually one of her original hits that is earning the moniker “best Stevie Nicks song not sung by Stevie Nicks.” 

With “Night Moves,” an Americana-tinged single off her 2022 album, Carving Canyons, the Midwest folk-rocker delivers her signature sonic comfort with a cosmic heartbreak anthem that sounds right out of the Nicks arsenal.

Cynthia Erivo is no stranger to flying high, but she also runs fast. Like...really fast. The Wicked: For Good! actress was one of many celebs running today in the London Marathon and finished with a staggeringly fast time of 3 hours, 21 minutes, and 40 seconds. This marathon marked a personal best time for Erivo, improving upon her 2022 London Marathon time of 3 hours, 35 minutes, and 36 seconds according to Reddit.

Erivo ran the race raising money for two charities—The King’s Trust and Shameless Fund. Upon completely the marathon Erivo said to press, “There was a little rough moment where I thought it was never going to make it, but then I found a little bit of strength.I’m here, and I feel really proud.”

She also shared a snap of her medal and personal best time with fans to her Instagram.

The actor wowed the audience with his violin skills as he played a song in honor of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Mazza was on fire as he put a spin on "Smooth Criminal," showcasing his killer technique and amazing musical gift.

In an Instagram post, Mazza shared a clip from the performance, where it was easy to see he was giving it his all and having the time of his life.

“My son!! ❤️,” wrote Mazza’s on-screen father, Dominic Zamprogna (Dante). Mazza’s on-screen grandmother, Rena Sofer (Lois), chimed in to say, “My boy!!! My amazing TV grandson!!!!”

Mazza’s real-life best friend and on-screen girlfriend, Braedyn Bruner (Emma), declared, “you are the coolest person I know 🤩❤️✨.” General Hospital star Laura Wright (Carly) gushed, “Hell Yeah !!!!! 💫💫💫,” while Kelly Thiebaud (Britt) called the performance “Incredible 👏👏👏.”

Nazneen Contractor (Justine) wrote, “AMAZING!!!” and Katelyn MacMullen (Willow) left clapping emojis for the talented violinist. The newest General Hospital star, Jonathan Bennett, popped in to call Mazza a “Legend.”

Fans also rushed to gush over Mazza. “Now that’s talented! He’s unbelievable!🎻. God bless him! He’s also a great actor and so handsome!!!!❤️,” said a fan.

One fan added, “GHFan and love how they have included not only you as an amazing actor but to also show your talents as a musician 🎶wow!!! what an incredible violinist you are 🎻 so talented 💯 ❤️.”

The soap star grew up in Chicago, where his love of the violin began at age three. Mazza first began playing at NBA halftime shows about 10 years ago when he performed for his hometown team, the Chicago Bulls. Over the past few years, he has become a regular at halftime shows for various NBA teams.

When most people think of Honey Maid, three flavors come to mind: Original, Cinnamon, and Chocolate. Those are the graham crackers that have been sitting in pantries across America since the brand launched in 1925, and for the most part, the lineup has stayed the same. Until now.

On Friday, April 17, Honey Maid Snacks took to Instagram to introduce a brand-new addition to the family. "Sweet, salty, and so worth the hype," the caption read. "Meet the NEW Honey Maid Salted Caramel Graham Crackers."

The limited-edition flavor combines the brand's signature graham cracker base with a salted caramel twist, topped with a light dusting of salt. They're available in Honey Maid's Fresh Stacks format — six individually wrapped sleeves per box — and can be found at Target, Walmart, Amazon, and other major retailers nationwide. Each serving has 120 calories, 8 grams of whole grains, and no high-fructose corn syrup.

It didn't take long for reactions to pour into the comments section.

"We are soooo ready for this!!!" one person wrote. 

"These are literally the best flavor of graham crackers I’ve ever had! I hope they end up being a permanent item and not limited edition. Sooo good," another added. 

"WHATTTTTT?!?!?! Cannot wait to try🤩🤩🤩," chimed in a third. 

Others were already making plans: "Using these tonight in our s’mores! Cannot wait!!!😍," someone else said.

The s’mores angle isn’t accidental. S’mores are a roughly $250 million annual business in the U.S., with Instacart data showing that graham cracker and marshmallow orders spike together around Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Honey Maid is already featuring recipes on its website that swap the classic cracker for the Salted Caramel version, including S'more Marshmallow Pops, a S'mores Mug Cake, and a S'mores Refrigerator "Cake" that uses the graham crackers as layers.

New flavors from Honey Maid are genuinely uncommon. A limited-edition Gingerbread version popped up around the 2011 holiday season, but moments like that are few and far between — which helps explain why Salted Caramel is getting so much attention.

That said, it’s not a forever flavor. There’s no official end date, but the packaging and retailer listings both signal a limited run. For anyone eyeing salted caramel s’mores this summer, the clock is already ticking.

"The movie is about something really valid and important," the actress tells Parade in this week’s exclusive cover story coming on April 29. "It’s a lot of laughter, but it’s about the difficulties of divorce for children and how ultimately, the mom and the dad can get divorced and the kids will still be okay. Kids need to know this—they need to know that sometimes divorce is the very best thing because sometimes when moms and dads feel they need to stay together for the kids, it’s a bad message."

The movie chronicles Daniel Hillard (Williams), a freelance voice actor desperate to spend more time with his three kids—played by Lisa Jakub, Matthew Lawrence and Mara Wilson—after a divorce. His big idea: Dressing up and disguising himself as an elderly British nanny, "Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire."

Field plays Miranda, his ex-wife who hires Mrs. Doubtfire and starts confiding in her—all the while unaware of her true identity. She also falls in love with a dashing new man (Pierce Brosnan). Field explains, "You want your children to understand that finding a partner to support you and love you and grow with you and challenge you is a really wonderful thing. And if it isn’t working, that’s okay, too. Not every relationship is supposed to last 'till the end of time."

Field herself is a two-time divorcée: She was wed to high school sweetheart Steven Craig from 1968-75 and to producer Alan Greisman from 1984-94. Like Miranda, she’s also a proud mom of three—screenwriter Peter Craig (Top Gun: Maverick), screenwriter and director Eli Craig (Little Evil) and writer Sam Greisman.

The actress—who stars in the heartwarming new Netflix movie Remarkably Bright Creatures out May 8—adds that she and Williams—along with director Chris Columbus (Home Alone) made sure that all the adult characters stayed sympathetic throughout the narrative. "We wanted to say to the kids that there are no bad guys in this," she says. "Life isn’t just one thing. And if you clamp down on it and demand that it stay this one thing, you miss the really fabulous colors of life and all its different paths. Like 'Oh wait, there’s this path and that path. I didn’t see that.'"

Released over Thanksgiving weekend in 1993 to mixed reviews (famed critic Roger Ebert gave it a “thumbs down”!), Mrs. Doubtfire nonetheless grossed nearly $450 million worldwide and was the second-highest-grossing movie of the year behindJurassic Park. It received an Oscar for Best Makeup and the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy. The Mrs. Doubtfire musical officially opened on Broadway in 2021.
