Beloved Comedian With 'Worst Actor' Nod Turns 61

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 7:30am

Kevin James broke into the glitz and glam of entertainment when he became a familiar face in comedy and a core member of what fans call the "Sandler comedy family” for his solid working relationship with Hollywood icon Adam Sandler.

Having turned 61 on April 26, the comedian was once labeled a “Worst Actor” at one point in his career.

In the late 1980s, he began his career as a stand-up comedian, mostly doing his stints in Long Island, where he grew up.

After building a successful reputation as a stand-up comedian known for his relatable physical humor and family-friendly style , he transitioned to television, appearing on shows like The All-New Candid Camera , as well as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Show with David Letterman.

It was the 1998 CBSsitcom The King of Queens where he had his breakthrough in Hollywood after landing the role of an IPS delivery driver named Doug Heffernan , who lived in New York City with his secretary wife Carrie, played by Leah Remini , and his eccentric father Arthur Spooner, portrayed by Jerry Stiller.

James’ exceptional performance on the show earned him major recognition after being nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series at the 58th Primetime Emmy Awards.

With his continued success, he moved into film, which was largely driven by his long-standing friendship with Adam Sandler, whom he first met while filming The King of Queens.

From his first cameo role in the hit rom-com 50 First Dates, the duo worked together in I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Pixels, followed by the Grown Ups franchise, along with the tight-knit circle of Happy Madison collaborators like Rob Schneider, David Spade , Chris Rock and more.

Amid his fame and the high-profile names he worked with, James could not escape the fact that critics had not always been as forgiving.

The Golden Raspberry Awards, also known as the Razzies , are a parody award show known for honoring the worst cinematic achievements of the year and have included the Home Team star in multiple nominations.

Many of these were linked to his work with Adam Sandler, beginning in 2008 with a Worst Supporting Actor nomination for I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry.

During the 2014 Razzie Awards, James secured his second nomination, along with the entire cast of Grown Ups 2, for Worst Screen Combo.

However, it was in 2016 when the comedian earned a nod for Worst Actor following his portrayal in Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2.

Beyond that, the film was heavily criticized as "criminally unfunny” and lacking the charm of the original, earning nominations for Worst Picture , Worst Screenplay and Worst Screen Combo featuring James and his Segway.

Hershey's Debuts New Bubble Yum Cotton Candy Milkshake That Fans Are Saying They 'Need in Their Life ASAP'

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 7:17am

It's always an exciting day whenever Hershey's reveals a brand-new treat joining its world-renowned lineup of famously sweet snacks.

Such is especially the case when said treat happens to be a fresh and memorably delicious dessert as eye-catching as the brand's new Bubble Yum-inspired Cotton Candy Milkshake at Hershey World.

Available exclusively at all Hershey World properties across the globe, the Bubble Yum Cotton Candy Milkshake features the same rich refreshing taste fans know and love from Hershey's longtime bubble gum company.

Made from a combination of vanilla ice cream blended with milk, cotton candy syrup and beet root powder for its distinct pink coloring, the new treat is sure to remind customers immediately of summer baseball games, high-octane carnivals or any other festive occasion in which cotton candy might be sold.

It's even topped off with a swirl of whipped cream and real cotton candy, giving fans one more reason to purchase this overstuffed dessert while they can.

As most fans of Hershey's properties might know, Hershey World can only be found in a handful of locations throughout the world, including Hershey, PA; Times Square; Las Vegas; Niagara Falls and Singapore.

With that in mind, it's hardly a surprise that most fans shared their utter excitement at the debut of the new dessert, while others voiced their frustration that the product won't be made available in additional locations.

"The cotton candy one needs to be released into the main world," one fan commented on Instagram.

"Bruh I need that Bubble Yum in my life ASAP. And the cotton candy flavor one too," said another user, complete with a peering eye emoji.

Interestingly, Hershey's new Bubble Yum Cotton Candy Milkshake joins four other flavors similarly making their way to all Hershey's World locations. This includes Hershey's Cafe Espresso Nuggets Milkshake, the Cookies n' Creme Milkshake, Twizzlers Pull 'n Peel Milkshake and Reese's Oreo Mikshake.

Melissa McCarthy Spent Six Years Planning the Perfect SVU Surprise for Mariska Hargitay

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 7:10am

There is a specific kind of joy that comes from watching someone genuinely surprised by a person they love. On the Law & Order: SVU set on April 23, that joy was delivered in full, complete with a rubber mask and six years of patient planning.

Melissa McCarthy had wanted to appear on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for years. But rather than simply arriving on set for her guest role, the actress choreographed an elaborate surprise, disguising herself as an elderly woman (gray curly wig, silicone prosthetic mask, the full commitment) and walked through the studio at 6 a.m. without Mariska Hargitay's knowledge. 'Everyone has been sneaking around behind boss lady's back, lovingly,' McCarthy documented in an Instagram video she posted that evening. 'She does not know we're coming.'

View this post on Instagram

Hargitay, who has been anchoring SVU for 27 seasons as Captain Olivia Benson, had no indication her longtime friend was on set until McCarthy appeared in costume, wig replaced by a character-appropriate 1980s mullet, and walked out to greet her. The reaction required no script. 'Are you f---ing kidding me?' Hargitay said on camera, before pulling McCarthy into a hug. She later posted a behind-the-scenes selfie with the caption: 'SURPRISE!!!! #MELISKA mind blown and still doing the happy dance!'

McCarthy playedJasmyn Jewell, a flirtatious professional fighter who assists Hargitay's character with a murder investigation during an expo. Their scene together included Hargitay placing her friend in handcuffs, a moment McCarthy noted she had been looking forward to for some time. 'I've been thinking about this for years,' she told Hargitay. 'I would not be a good prisoner.' On Instagram after the episode aired, McCarthy wrote that the surprise was 'six years in the making' and paid tribute to her friend directly: 'Mariska, you are the real deal. Sorry everyone lied to you, hope it was worth it'.

The episode, which aired April 23 on NBC, drew immediate fan reaction. Comments flooded both stars' social media, with viewers describing the behind-the-scenes footage as the best clip they'd seen all year. The response reflects something SVU fans already know: after 27 seasons, Hargitay's connection to the show and to the people around her carries genuine feeling. McCarthy joining the franchise for a moment built entirely on friendship rather than career calculation made the guest appearance feel, for once, like something entirely unscripted.

Law & Order: SVU was renewed for Season 28 earlier this month, extending a record as TV's longest-running primetime live-action series. McCarthy, who joins a long list of guest stars including Viola Davis, Patricia Arquette, and Leslie Odom Jr., can now count herself among the SVU alumni — and apparently could not be more pleased about it. 'PS,' she added in her post, 'LOOK MA I FINALLY MADE IT ON LAW & ORDER!!!!!'

This Is the Best New England Food City for a Long Weekend—and It’s Not Portland

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 7:10am

Often overshadowed by renowned food hubs like Boston and Portland, Providence is almost always the underdog when it comes to tourism. However, thanks to an influx of industry and a resurgance that has been quietly happening for decades, it's quickly rising to the top when it comes to loud and proud food cities. What adds to the charm is the size. Just under 19 square miles and with fewer than 200,000 full-time residents, Providence is compact enough to explore over a long weekend, but its 25 distinct neighborhoods give the city depth. Each has its own food identity, which means you can eat around the globe without ever leaving town.

According to Kristen Adamo, President & CEO of GoProvidence, the city's small size is actually a major benefit when it comes to food. “A lot of people automatically think ‘Boston’ when they think New England food, but Providence is ‘The Creative Capital’ where chefs come to stretch their creativity. It’s a smaller city, which means less pressure to play it safe and more room to try something new," she says.

View this post on Instagram Why Now?

Providence is always evolving, and with that, there's almost always a new restaurant opening or food experience for tourists and locals to indulge in. "Providence has this mix of talent and freedom that gives the food scene its spark. And because we’re home to Johnson & Wales University, one of the top culinary schools in the country, there’s always new talent coming into local kitchens," Adamo says.

One of the newer openings that's getting buzz is Track 15, the food hall in Union Station that opened in March of 2025 and gave downtown a stronger all-day food stop, with multiple local vendors in one place and an easy location between the riverfront and the financial district. Cielito Mexican Kitchen, opened in August 2024 and added the Alcantar family’s Michoacán cooking to downtown, expanding the city's hispanic influence with dishes like enchiladas verdes, ensalada de nopal, and mole de olla. The Downcity Providence Food Tour may not be new, but they're always adding new stops and unique tours that cover at least six eateries in about three hours, which is a quick way to understand the city’s downtown food scene and figure out where you want to return for a full meal later.

“The city is certainly buzzing," Adamo says. "A new generation of chefs, bakers, and bartenders is stepping up, and they’re blending beautifully with the classic spots that locals have loved for generations. Providence has always had its own identity, and perhaps the rest of New England is now trying to keep up, for once,” she laughs.

Where to Eat

Start the day in the West End at Irregardless, where co-owners James Dean and Joe Hafner built the menu around Dean’s grandmother’s (insanely delicious) biscuit recipe. Adamo highly recommends the fried chicken biscuit with hot honey or the egg-and-cheese with maple-fennel chicken sausage. Downtown, Ellie’s is the local go-to for a cinnamon bun and a fresh-pressed coffee, while Bolt is another great coffee spot for a quick espresso on the go. For pizza, stop at Pizza Marvin in Fox Point, which brings New Haven's extra crispy thin crust to the city. Al Forno isn't new, but is one you can't miss, because chef and owners Johanne Killeen and the late George Germon helped put Providence on the national restaurant map with their one-of-a-kind grilled pizza.

“Providence is a city that really champions individuality and independent restaurants. Family-owned spots thrive here, and chains rarely stick around," Adamo says. "People here want food with a story behind it—a grandma’s recipe, a chef’s childhood dish, a family tradition brought from another country. That’s why the food feels so personal," she says.

Adamo loves how spoilt for choice travelers are when they come here. “It’s really the combination. The restaurants are fantastic, but the city itself makes eating here feel easy and fun. Our size is our strength. Providence is walkable, compact, and full of character. You can go from a James Beard–nominated restaurant to a late-night hot wiener spot without ever needing a car, and each neighborhood has its own distinct flavor. It’s a food city without the stress — just great meals in a place that feels friendly and accessible," she says.

For dinner, Adamo loves Oberlin, which sits on bustling Westminster Street. The brainchild of Benjamin Sukle and Bethany Caliaro, it's one of the city’s most coveted reservations. Dinner has to include their Rhode Island oysters, fresh crudo, and house-made pastas. Next door is Gift Horse, which is regaled as one of downtown's best seafood spots, with chef Sky Haneul Kim’s sesame-milk scallop crudo, smoked and buttery scallop roll, and fried skate wing ssam drawing national attention. It may not be new, but Angelo’s, a Federal Hill institution, is always packed, and has been serving Italian classics for more than 100 years.

Where to Stay & Play

If the trip is organized around dinner, stay downtown. The Beatrice, on Westminster Street, is one of Adamo's favorites, with 47 rooms in the restored Exchange Bank Building and Bellini Providence on-site, which means a plate of pasta or a drink can happen before you've even unpacked. For something quieter with a more localized vibe, stat at Dye House in Olneyville. This small boutique hotel and event space is sitting in a former mill building, ad is better for travelers who want a little distance from downtown without leaving the city entirely.

You can't visit Providence without spending a few hours at the RISD Museum. Free on Sundays and Thursday evenings, it houses over 100,000 pieces of fine artifacts, sculptures, and art works from Monet, Picasso, Warhol, and so many more. If you're still feeling artsy, head back over to Olneyville, which is home to Providence's old manufactoring plants, which are now home to incredible restaurants, bnbs, and art galleries galore. Adamo loves Dirt Palace, a feminist art collective, as well as The Wurks Art Collective. Olneyville is also home to great shops, like RiffRaff bookstore. If your dates line up, WaterFire adds even more charm to the waterfront with more than 80 bonfires lit on select evenings from May through November, sometimes December.

Walmart has been our go-to for patio furniture, as the retailer sells  everything from tables to chairs to umbrellas at incredible discounts during flash deals. Now, we're adding the Costway Acacia Wood Patio Table to our online cart ahead of warm weather season, while it's nearly 50% off.

The table initially cost $319, but has been reduced to $190 for a limited time. It's 79 inches long, 35.5 inches wide, and 29.5 inches tall, so it can accommodate up to eight guests. According to reviewers, it's most comfortable when just six people are seated, since you get a little bit more elbow room. The material is made of acacia wood and metal, with an umbrella hole that's 1.9 inches in diameter. It can hold a maximum capacity of 165 pounds.

The design features a wood slatted top that allows rainwater to flow through and encourage drainage. If it gets dusty or dirty from being outdoors, all you have to do is wipe it regularly to ensure it stays clean. The metal legs are 2.4 inches thick, so they're fairly stable, and have adjustable foot pads on each. Plus, the table comes with a manual and tools that allow for easy assembly.

Shoppers say it can be assembled hastily, but one did use a drill instead of the provided tools to make the process quicker. We just advise proceeding with caution on that advice as to not ruin the material. Other customers described the piece as "perfect," "absolutely beautiful," and "well-constructed."

Another reviewer said that it "holds up well outside," due to the table's slats.. If you do have an umbrella, you can also cover the table from inclement weather. Otherwise, just add some of your favorite indoor or outdoor placemats and you're all set to throw a lovely dinner party!

Your outdoor party can't exist without a sleek table to place your snacks on. This budget-friendly option will transform your backyard area, and it's already in over 50 customer carts — so make sure to shop it at Walmart while it's $129 off!

Michael Jackson’s 'Dirty Diana' Was Princess Diana’s Favorite Song—But It Was Never About Her

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 7:00am

Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana” sparked headlines for its provocative subject matter, but it also carried an unexpected royal twist thanks to Princess Diana’s surprising admiration for the track.

The risqué 1988 classic found an unlikely admirer in the Princess of Wales. She called it her favorite song of the entertainer's reported Biography.

Jackson and Diana forged a bond over their love of philanthropy and their shared experiences. Both lived under constant media scrutiny throughout the 1980s.

The powerhouse friends first met in July 1988, reported Biography, when the princess and her ex-husband King Charles attended the entertainer's Wembley Stadium Bad Tour. That was the first meeting between Jackson and Diana, who attended the July 1988 show along with her then-husband Prince Charles.

Jackson spoke about meeting Diana and performing in front of the royal couple in an interview with Barbara Walters almost a decade later, in 1997. “I took ['Dirty Diana'] out of the show in honor of Her Royal Highness," he explained. Diana asked the King of Pop, “Are you going to do 'Dirty Diana' she asked him. He responded, "No, I took it out of the show because of you."

Diana encouraged Jackson to keep it in the setlist. She said, ‘No! I want you to do it. Do it. Do the song.’”

Despite years of speculation about the song's meaning, including that it was written for Princess Diana, "Dirty Diana" was, in fact, about a groupie. He wrote the song for the LP Bad, and it was his 5th consecutive No. 1 single said his official Facebook page.

“Dirty Diana” gave Jackson the rare distinction of becoming the only artist to score five consecutive No. 1 singles from the same album. It also stood out in his catalog as one of the few tracks featuring a guitar solo, with Steve Stevens providing the instrumental edge.

Jackson's popularity has surged since the release of the feature film Michael. The renewed attention has introduced his music to a new generation of listeners while also sparking fresh interest in his most iconic hits and stories.

The Hollywood Reporter shared that Michael opened with a whopping $97 million domestically, and a $120.4 million overseas. In total, the film grossed $217.4 million thus in its first three days of release.

Princess Diana died at 36 in August 1997. Michael Jackson died in 2009 at 50.

‘Happy Days’ Star Henry Winkler Recalls the 1976 Date That Changed His Life

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 6:59am

Henry Winkler had a memorable first date with his wife, Stacey Weitzman, 50 years ago. During an April 2026 appearance on the Sherri show, the actor recalled the first time he took Weitzman out 50 years ago during the height of his fame playing Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli on Happy Days.

Winkler, now 80, had to get past Weitzman’s young son, Jed, at the front door first.

“So Stacey had a son who was four,” he shared on the talk show. “And I was a candle on his cake. Before I met him. Before I met Stacey, actually, on his fourth birthday. So I drove this, I had the first Audi ever made, which I used eventually as a planter because it was not a really great car. So I drove to her house, and he opened the door a little, and he went ‘Fonz!’ And I went, ‘My name is Henry. Would you like it if I called you Ralph?’ I am now arguing with a four-year-old over being typecast.”

“We go to the movies,” Winkler continued. “I say, ‘I don't think it's a good idea if we sit in the middle of the theater.’ She said, ‘Why?’ I said, ‘Well, I don't know how to explain it to you, but I'm not sure it's really good if we sit in the middle.’ She said, ‘Why?’ I said, ‘Okay.’ We sat down. The entire theater stood up and came over to say hello. She looked at me and went, ‘Oh.’”

Winkler and Weitzman wed in 1978

Winkler, who played Happy Days icon Fonzie from 1974 to 1984, met his future wife at Jerry Magnin's clothing store in Beverly Hills in 1976, where she was working as a public relations rep. After someone in the store said, "Hey, there's Fonzie,” Weitzman was introduced to the actor, according to People.

"I came back to the store the next week, and she was there,” Winkler told the outlet. “And within 10 minutes, I learned how strong she is."

Winkler invited Weitzman to join him for a soda, which led to him asking her out on a real date.

In an interview with AARP Magazine, Winkler recalled, “She wanted to go to the movies. And I told her that might be difficult. She wanted to know why. I said, ‘I don’t know how to describe it to you.'"

Weitzman wasn’t scared off after getting a first-hand look at Winkler’s massive fame. The couple married in a synagogue in New York in 1978 and later welcomed kids Zoe and Max. Nearly 50 years later, they are also grandparents.

In 2019, Winkler told People the secret to his long marriage. "We enjoy fly fishing together,” he said of spending time with his wife. “We enjoy grandchildren together. We enjoy going to the movies together. We truly enjoy each other every day."

7 Little Johnstons star Brice Bolden practiced his wedding speech with "help" from Liz Johnston's brothers, Jonah and Alex — and cardboard cutouts of other family members.

"To my parents, thank you for your love, encouragement and guidance throughout my life. I love y'all very much," the soon-to-be groom said while holding a microphone, as Jonah and Alex sat in chairs as his audience. He continued, "To my fiancé's family, um, let's see..." before losing his spot and trailing off.

In a confessional with producers, Brice admitted, "So, speeches have always made me nervous… [of] me accidentally messing up, and then now I got all of these people laughing at me. Just looking at the whole crowd just gives me the shivers."

Liz's longtime boyfriend and the father of her daughter, Leighton, continued his practice speech. "To my fiancé's family, I am committed to cherishing and caring for your daughter for the rest of my life," he said.

As Jonah offered feedback to Brice, sharing, "I mean, the speech length's perfect. Just, when you can, after each paragraph, look up and make eye contact with people. I've got a way to help you out with eye contact. Let me go and get some 'people' that we want to invite out."

Alex added, "I'll go help you with those."

"I was only ready to say the speech in front of Jonah and Alex, so I was thinking, I'm like, 'OK, who could this be coming out?'" Brice told producers.

That's when Jonah and Alex revealed cardboard cutouts of their mom, Amber Johnston, and sisters, Emma and Liz. "So these are actual scale," Jonah joked as he held up a definitely not-to-scale cardboard image of his mother.

Brice explained to producers, "They bring out cardboard pictures of them, and I just started laughing. Most of the reason because of their faces." To Alex and Jonah, he pointed out, "Amber's got, like, the whatever face."

The Rise of the ‘Solo Social’ Trip: 5 Best Getaways for Travelers Who Want to Go Alone—But Not Stay Alone

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 6:10am

If the word “solo travel” still conjures up images of eating a sad salad at a hotel bar while clutching a paperback for dear life, it’s time for a rebrand. For the modern traveler—specifically the powerhouse 50+ demographic currently driving the luxury market—solo travel has officially entered its "social" era.

“I started this company because I met so many women who said, ‘I’d love to travel, but I don’t want to do it alone,’” says Tara Cappel, founder of FTLO Travel. “We’ve found that 80% of our travelers sign up solo, but they aren’t looking for isolation—they’re looking for a tribe of people at a similar stage in life.”

Whether it’s the "Blue Mind" effect of a shared boat deck or the camaraderie of a pasta-making class in a local kitchen, the "Solo Social" trip is about intentional connection. As Evelina Chiang of Vantage X puts it: “People used to want to hit 10 spots and check them off a list,” says Evelina Chiang. “Now, they want to go for longer, stay in one or two places, and come out the other side feeling transformed. That’s easier to do when you have a community to share it with.”

Ready to ditch the mental load of planning? Here are the 5 best "Solo Social" standouts for 2026, straight from the experts.

1. The Floating Boutique Hotel: A Croatia Yacht Cruise

The Expert Pick: Graham, Co-Founder of Unforgettable Travel & Cruise Croatia; The Recommendation:7-Night Deluxe Split to Dubrovnik Cruise

For those who want to see the world without the "box-ticking" exhaustion of traditional tours, a small-ship cruise through Croatia offers a perfect middle ground. Graham Carter, co-founder ofUnforgettable Travel& Cruise Croatia, describes these luxury yachts as a "small floating boutique hotel" where the limited capacity—typically just 36 guests—fosters an immediate sense of community. Because the vessels are smaller (around 170 feet), they can dock directly in the heart of charming, small ports rather than staying anchored far offshore like the mega-ships. This proximity allows for a more authentic, effortless exploration of the islands. The social magic happens during daily anchor drops in quiet bays where guests can swim off the back of the yacht or ride jet skis together. "By the end of the week, when everybody's getting off, everybody's exchanging emails or they're connecting on Facebook or Instagram," Carter says. "Everybody starts becoming a happy family on board." In 2026, look for "Adults Only" sailings on modern vessels like the MV Aretis or MS My Wish for a more sophisticated peer group.

2. The Nancy Meyers Dream: Sardinia, Italy

The Expert Pick: Tara Cappel, Founder of FTLO Travel; The Recommendation:The Sardinia Signature Trip still has availability for summer 2026.

If your travel mood board features white sand, turquoise water and a certain cozy coastal charm, Sardinia is the definitive 2026 answer. Tara Cappel, founder ofFTLO Travel, notes that the island is currently her most popular destination, specifically because it satisfies the desire for an elevated, visually stunning lifestyle. The trip utilizes a "high-low" budget strategy, staying at modest, soul-filled hotels in beautiful towns like Cala Gonone to save the "premium inputs" for the experiences that truly matter. This is the ideal pick for the traveler who wants the Nancy Meyers aesthetic—immaculate sets, boutique vibes and peaceful settings. The highlight of the trip is a private boat day exploring coves accessible only by water, complete with wine and lunch served on board. "Most people associate an FTLO trip with a boat day," Tara explains, "because we know everyone loves a boat day".

3. The Safe Haven Exploration: Lisbon & The Douro Valley, Portugal

The Expert Pick: Evelina Chiang, Co-Founder of Vantage X, a luxury membership delivering perks with 300 travel partners around the globe; Our Recommendation:Other Way Around Portugal Group Tour or Scenic Douro

Portugal has emerged as a strategic favorite for solo travelers because it balances world-class food and wine with an approachable, compact geography. Evelina Chiang, co-founder of Vantage X, identifies Portugal as one of the fastest-growing destinations for the 50+ demographic due to its exceptional safety and walkability. It's a place where travelers can engage in "self-exploratory" moments that aren't super mainstream, such as visiting boutique wineries in the Douro Valley. This destination is particularly suited for those seeking "slow travel" and meaningful, wellness-driven resets rather than urban-heavy, rushed itineraries. As Evelina puts it, "luxury nowadays is less about showing off and more about feeling taken care of," and Portugal’s hospitality-forward culture delivers exactly that.

4. The Transfomational Autumn Escape: Japan

The Expert Pick: Tara Cappel, Founder of FTLO Travel; The Recommendation:Japan: Cultural Adventure (Fall Foliage Edition)

While the cherry blossoms get the headlines, autumn in Japan is becoming the preferred choice for those seeking a deeper, more tranquil connection to the culture. Cappel notes that while spring dates sell out months in advance, the fall colors offer a unique backdrop for a slower, more immersive adventure. An itinerary that includes Tokyo, Kyoto, and the wellness-centric ryokans in Shuzenji Onsen allows for a mix of "bright lights" and peaceful "transformative" experiences. Shared group moments, such as a traditional dinner with a geisha, provide social hooks that are difficult to replicate alone. This trip is perfect for the traveler looking to move beyond "Google-able" experiences and find a sense of community in a foreign environment.

5. The “Bucket List” Safari: South Africa

The Expert Pick: Graham Carter, Co-Founder of Unforgettable Travel; The Recommendation:Cape Town, Kruger and Victoria Fallsor Malaria-Free Big Five Safari (Madikwe or Eastern Cape)

For a milestone solo journey, South Africa provides a "triple threat" of experiences: the vibrant city life of Cape Town, the luxury of the winelands, and the thrill of a Big Five safari. Graham from Unforgettable Travel recommends it as a bucket-list destination that truly has something for everyone, often serving as a powerful communal "wow" moment. For those wanting to avoid medical prep, Graham suggests a malaria-free safari in Madikwe or the Eastern Cape—allowing for a seamless transition from the city to the bush. The social structure of a luxury safari—where guests often gather for "sundowner" drinks in the bush or share stories at a lodge—makes it one of the easiest ways to meet people in a safe, guided environment. “Safety is a consideration for solo women,” Graham says. Sticking to a guided group or a private-tour-led itinerary in South Africa ensures you see the best of the "Mother City" without the stress of navigating it alone.

Spam’s Unexpectedly Cute OluKai Sandal Collab Just Arrived—Where to Find It

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 6:01am

Spam has inspired not one, but several pairs of sandals from popular footwear company OluKai.

Yes, we're talking about the iconic canned lunch meat and not the unsolicited bulk messages in your inbox. And even though it sounds a little unconventional (ok, maybe more than a little), what may be even harder to believe is that the flip-flops are actually so cute—and we're not the only ones who think so.

When the new collaboration was teased late last week, fans called it the "collab of the decade." And while that's certainly high praise, it also sounds pretty unbelievable. So, we'll let you be the judge. Continue reading for more information on the collab, photos, and, of course, where to buy it.

OluKai's Bestselling Sandals Get Spam-Inspired Makeover

The limited-edition collaboration starts with the island lifestyle-inspired brand's "bestselling 'Ohana sandal," according to an official description shared in an email with Parade. It then gets decorated with one of the brand's new Spam-inspired designs: the classic Heritage Colorway or the Musubi Edition, both of which are available in men’s and women’s sizing.

"We’re beyond excited to team up with OluKai for a collaboration that brings together
two island originals in an unexpected way," Robbie Koons, senior brand manager of the Spam brand, shared in a statement. "It’s a chance to celebrate the island community that has championed the Spam brand for generations and to have a little fun while we’re at it."

"Spam products are a true staple and a meaningful part of Hawai'i’s food culture,"
Matt Lindauer, senior vice president of Creative for OluKai, added. "Bringing that spirit into one of our most loved sandals felt like a natural way to celebrate island life."

Those familiar with the sandal brand prior to this collab rave about them, saying they're durable, comfortable and come with a one-year warranty. According to the product page, this particular collab features water-resistant straps, quick-drying jersey knit lining, and is lighter than other durable sandals. And its Spam-inspired design is giving fans all-new reasons to want to stock up, like one who gushed that this is "THE BEST COLLAB IVE EVER SEEN."

"Not a want. A need," a second joked on Instagram.

A third wrote in disbelief, "Olukai [musubis] loading …"

"ooohh spam slippahzz ok let em cook 🔥," another teased.

"Oh this NEEDED to happen," one more declared.

The new OluKai x Spam Collection will be available at OluKai retail stores and its official website for $80 beginning today (Monday, April 27), for a limited time while supplies last.

1982 Unforgettable Wedding Classic Named One of the Top Country Love Songs of All Time

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 5:31am

Few songs manage to feel as timeless as a true country love classic, but one 1982 duet has done exactly that. Decades later, it’s still ranked among the top country love songs of all time—and remains a staple at weddings everywhere.

Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gayle paired up for "You and I," an unforgettable duet that mixed country warmth with pop appeal. The result was a crossover hit that quickly became one of the most beloved love songs of its era.

Billboard ranked the song at No. 5 of its list of the Top Country Love Songs of All Time. The outlet called the song, "the longest-charting Hot 100 hit of both artists’ careers."

The tune's smooth harmonies and heartfelt lyrics struck a chord with listeners, helping it stand out in a crowded era of crossover hits. Over time, it only grew in popularity, earning its place among the top country love songs of all time and becoming a go-to wedding favorite, per The Knot.

"You and I" was written by Frank Myers. It's call and answer style of singing helped the song propel to the top of Billboard's country charts in December 1982. It also hit No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100

In a December 2025 interview, Gayle reflected on the song’s origins and its legacy. She also shared how she was initially only asked to do harmony on the tune, but contributed to a legendary love duet.

"Eddie [Rabbitt] called me and asked, 'Would you do some harmony on one of my songs?' I said, 'Send it to me.'" Gayle began.

"He sent me the song and I called him back and said, 'I can do a little bit more than harmony,'" the entertainer continued. "Eddie had put his voice down already. So I went to the studio and I put it down and that was it."

She concluded, "I had his voice with me. I love Eddie. His voice was incredible, his writing and with that song, we did a lot of touring."

The song was released as the first single from Rabbitt's eighth studio album, Radio Romance. It was a standout track from the LP, which highlighted Rabbitt’s signature blend of country storytelling and pop sensibility.

More than four decades later, Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gayle's “You and I” still holds a special place in country music history. It’s the kind of song that doesn’t just get remembered, it finds new life every time it’s played at a wedding or shared between two people in love.

1975 Soft Rock Hit, One of the Saddest Songs of the ‘70s, Started With a Dream

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 5:26am

In 1975, Michael Martin Murphey released what would become his biggest hit with “Wildfire.”

The song, which appeared on the album Blue Sky-Night Thunder, peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 on June 21, 1975, and became the singer’s signature song. Written about the ghosts of a woman and her horse, “Wildfire” is often recalled as one of the saddest songs of the ‘70s more than 50 years later.

‘Wildfire’ was spawned by a dream

Murphey wrote "Wildfire" with co-writer Larry Cansler. In an interview with NPR, he recalled coming up with lyrics about a girl who died searching for her lost white pony in a blizzard. The story came to Murphey in a vivid dream while he was sleeping on the floor at Cansler's house.

“I had a dream, and I dreamed the lyrics. I woke up and I had it in my head,” Murphey shared. “It was literally just something came right out of my subconscious - mystical inspiration, whatever you want to call it, but I can't say that I did anything mechanical.”

The singer admitted he spent years trying to interpret his dream.

“I’d had this dream about a horse,” he told D magazine. “I wrote down all these images. I have no idea what they mean. …We wrote that song probably in two hours. And I’ve been trying my whole life to figure out where that one came from.”

Murphey shared more insight into the songwriting process in an interview with The Boot.

“The night ‘Wildfire’ came to me …I dreamed the song in its entirety,” he recalled. “I woke up and pounded on Larry's door and said, ‘Can you come down and help me with this song?’ His wife got up and made us coffee, and we finished it in two or three hours.”

“The song came from deep down in my subconsciousness,” Murphey continued, adding that he had deep memories of an old cowboy story his grandfather once told him about a legendary ghost horse.

“I also think a lot of it is wrapped up in my Christian upbringing: In the Biblical book of Revelations, it talks about Jesus coming back on a white horse. … I was a cowboy kid with Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, so when the preacher told me that Jesus would come back for me on a white horse, I was all wrapped up in that. In the ghost story, the horse is a symbol of the Savior.”

A surprise hit

Murphey had some trouble convincing his record producer to include “Wildfire” on the Blue Sky-Night Thunder album.

Of the material that I proposed for that album, the one song that Bob Johnston didn’t care for was 'Wildfire.’ He said, ‘I just don’t think that one is going to have a chance,'' Murphey shared in an interview with Lonestar Music. “I said, ‘Just let me put it on the record as an album cut.’ He did not see how ‘Wildfire’ fit into the other songs I had written."

Murphey pushed hard for "Wildfire" and won that battle. He recalled that after he recorded the album at Caribou Ranch in Colorado, he played it for the kitchen staff.

“And they were all girls who were 18, 20, 22 years old working there. And they went nuts over 'Wildfire,'" he recalled. “So Bob said, 'Well, what do I know? Let’s tell Epic Records that the girls liked the song.’ …. So Bob called up and said, 'We’re getting a great reaction from people who have heard the album to ‘Wildfire,’ we think you should push this as a single.' Even though in those days, you’d put an album out and then wait to see what radio would play from it. But ‘Wildfire’ is the one that took off. That was the biggest thing I’d ever had anything to do with.”

As for what the song came to mean for him, Murphey told NPR, “The song is very much about escaping hard times.”

“As I look back, I've realized ‘Wildfire’ led me down a lot of paths that I was able to realize my dream of riding that magic horse the way I did ride a magic horse,” he shared. “It was a song, and it was a dream.”

Legendary ’50s Actor, Whose Career Lasted 62 Years, Died 29 Years Ago Today

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 5:22am

It has been 29 years since the passing of John Beal, a versatile performer whose career stretched across more than six decades in film, television, radio and stage.

The actor, best remembered for his work during Hollywood’s Golden Age and his steady presence in later character roles, died on April 26, 1997, in Santa Cruz, California. He was 87.

Beal’s long career began in the early 1930s and continued into the 1990s, making him one of the rare actors who successfully bridged multiple eras of entertainment. From starring roles in classic films to appearances in television dramas and Broadway productions, his body of work reflects a lifetime devoted to acting.

Born James Alexander Bliedung in Joplin, Missouri, Beal originally studied economics at the University of Pennsylvania. He was “mapped for a commercial career,” but his interests shifted as he performed in school productions and drew cartoons. Soon after graduating in 1930, he turned to acting full-time.

His film debut came in 1933 with Another Language, where he reprised his stage role. The performance opened doors in Hollywood, leading to notable roles alongside major stars. In 1934, he appeared opposite Katharine Hepburn in The Little Minister, a film that helped cement his reputation as a leading man.

Beal continued to gain attention in the mid-1930s, including his role as Marius in Les Misérables (1935). During this time, he was often described as a “boyishly handsome” actor, frequently cast in romantic and dramatic leads. His early film success also included titles such as Laddie (1935) and Madame X (1937).

Despite his rising fame, his career momentum slowed during World War II, when he served as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Forces, contributing to camp shows and training films.

After the war, Beal returned to acting and expanded into radio and television while continuing his stage work. Over the years, he appeared in more than 50 live theater productions, including well-known plays like Our Town and The Teahouse of the August Moon. His Broadway credits spanned decades, showing his commitment to the craft.

In television, Beal became a familiar face during the 1950s and 1960s. He appeared in series such as Bonanza, The Waltons, and Kojak. He also played Judge Vail in the cult soap opera Dark Shadows and had roles in medical dramas and anthology programs.

One notable moment in his TV career came in 1964, when he was cast as Jim Matthews in the soap opera Another World. However, he was removed from the role after just one episode.

Beal’s film career continued alongside his television work. He starred in Alimony (1949) and My Six Convicts (1952), and later appeared in The Vampire (1957) and The Sound and the Fury (1959). Decades later, he took on a final screen role in The Firm (1993), playing a villain opposite Tom Cruise.

His career, which began in 1930 and lasted until the early 1990s, totaled roughly 62 years, a rare achievement in the entertainment industry.

Personal Life and Final Years

Beal was married to actress Helen Craig for 52 years until she died in 1986. The couple had two daughters and maintained a relatively private family life. In his later years, he focused on portrait painting, another creative passion.

He died from complications related to a stroke he had suffered two years earlier. Even after his passing, Beal remains remembered as a dependable and skilled actor who adapted to changing times in Hollywood.

Today, nearly three decades later, his legacy lives on through his extensive filmography and stage work, marking him as a steady presence from the Golden Age of cinema to modern productions.

Why Costa Rica's 'Amalfi Coast' Makes the Perfect, Charming Coastal Escape This Spring

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 5:10am

Las Catalinas is often called the "Amalfi Coast of Costa Rica," and the second you step onto its car-free cobblestone streets, you understand why. Tucked into the rugged cliffs of the Guanacaste coast, this Mediterranean-style village is a feat of urban design: a maze of pastel-hued villas, hidden plazas and fountains that spill down toward the Pacific.

But unlike its European counterpart, the backdrop here isn’t lemon groves—it’s 1,000 acres of protected tropical dry forest. In a world where we are increasingly tied to our car keys and screens, Las Catalinas offers a "barefoot luxury" escape where the only traffic you’ll encounter is a neighbor heading to the beach or a howler monkey in the canopy above.

Here’s how to get in step with the Pura Vida lifestyle as you explore every corner of this car-free wonder.

Checking In to the Car-Free Life

Las Catalinas

In Las Catalinas, the 'commute' is just a quiet walk across a cobblestone plaza. Because the town is built for people instead of cars, everything you need—from your morning espresso to a sunset dip—is just a short, scenic walk away. For the full experience, most locals suggest skipping the traditional hotel stay in favor of a villa. "My favorite way to experience Las Catalinas is a longer stay in one of the homes or villas through Las Catalinas Doorway," says Brian Funcik, a longtime resident and real estate advisor. "There are so many options, and no two are alike... it allows people to find something that fits their specific needs." If you're looking for a shorter, more hotel-centric vibe, the Santarena Hotel sits right in the heart of town, making it ideal for families who want to be steps from the gelato shop and the surf. For those chasing a romantic, Amalfi-style cliffside retreat, Casa Chameleon offers private bungalows with plunge pools and sweeping ocean views that rival any Positano sunset.

Natural Beauty: From Ridge Trails to Racquet Sports

Las Catalinas

You won’t find yourself checking a watch for your next fitness class here. Las Catalinas is home to over 42 km of world-class hiking and mountain biking trails that weave through the forest. "The trail system here is truly world-class," say Alex and Steff Taulère, founders of Pura Vida Tennis. "Places like Punta Penca and the ridge trails offer some of the most breathtaking scenery... it’s one of the rare places where you can experience ocean, mountains, and dry forest all in one day."

When you aren't on the trails, the action shifts to the beach at Playa Danta or the town’s growing racquet scene. The Taulères have turned the town into a hub for tennis and pickleball, blending sport with social connection. As Funcik notes, the car-free design creates a safety net for families: "As someone with a young son, I love that it is safe enough for him to move around freely, ride his bike to a friend’s house, or play in the parks and plazas."

The Culinary Scene: A Costa Rican "Nature’s Table"

Las Catalinas

For a town of its size, the culinary depth is surprising, holding its own against global food hubs. A local standout is Nature’s Table at the Center of Joy. "Their health-conscious menu, the coffee, the energy, the people, and the food are all incredible," note the Taulères. Funcik agrees, highlighting their creative salads and Cuban sandwich as consistent favorites.

For the quintessential morning ritual, head to Pura Vida Ride. "I have never had better coffee," Funcik says. "Everything, from their custom roast to the setting with rocking chairs overlooking the ocean, makes it a special experience. They also serve fresh empanadas in the morning... I always recommend whatever just came out of the oven." For a casual sunset dinner, the Beach Club is the go-to for wood-fired pizza and beach bites.

Coastal Curations and Sunset Socials

You won’t find rows of souvenir stalls here. Instead, the shops in Las Catalinas feel like small, personal extensions of the town itself—tucked into quiet corners and filled with things you’d actually want to wear at home. The Las Catalinas Collection is a favorite for high-quality clothing that transitions from the sand to a formal dinner. "We actually bought our wedding clothing there for our beachside wedding," the Taulères share. For gear, Pura Vida Ride stocks everything from surfboards to Patagonia essentials.

As the sun dips below the horizon, the town gathers for "barefoot" social moments, like community s'mores by the beach or sunset socials. It’s a place where the "Pura Vida" philosophy meets European urbanism. As the Taulères put it, "You’re surrounded by beauty, but you’re also free to move, explore and live fully."

Forget 'Baby Botox': This Peptide Hack Is the Secret to Naturally Plumper Skin

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 4:15am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

At some point in your thirties—or maybe your forties, if you're one of the lucky ones—you look in the mirror and notice something is…different. Not dramatically, not all at once, but the skin that used to look naturally full and bouncy just looks a little less so. Your cheeks are slightly flatter. Your under-eyes might have a hollow quality they didn't have before. The forehead lines that used to disappear when you relaxed your face are now just...here.

Your first instinct might be to either book a filler appointment or panic-buy every "plumping" product on the market. Both impulses are one million percent understandable. Injectables genuinely work for replacing lost structural volume, and the skincare market is absolutely packed with products promising to turn back the clock from the outside.

But dermatologists will tell you that the reality is more nuanced than either extreme—and there's a meaningful amount you can actually do at home with the right ingredients, the right habits and realistic expectations about what topical skincare can and can't accomplish.

The good news: that middle ground is more powerful than most people realize. To find out exactly what works, we talked to seven dermatologists and skincare experts—Dr. Marie Jhin, Chief Medical Officer of Musely; Dr. Whitney Hovenic, double board-certified dermatologist and co-founder of SPOOGE; Dr. Chang Son, dermatologist; Dr. Kseniya Kobets, Director of Cosmetic Dermatology at Montefiore Einstein Advanced Care; Dr. Nazanin Saedi of Plymouth Meeting Dermatology; Dr. Jade Conway, dermatologist; and Dr. Nicole Lee, dermatologist—about why skin loses volume, which ingredients actually help and the nine most impactful things you can do for naturally plumper skin starting today.

Related:11 Best Skin-Tightening Moisturizers, According to Celebrity Derms

Why Skin Loses Volume as You Age

The structural explanation is less complicated than you might think, even if the process itself is frustratingly inevitable. Starting in the late twenties, collagen production begins declining at roughly 1% per year—and more importantly, Dr. Kobets points out, our ability to regenerate collagen slows at the same time. Elastin fibers degrade, hyaluronic acid levels drop and fibroblast activity (those are the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin in the first place) decreases steadily.

But it's not just about what's happening in the skin itself. Dr. Hovenic explains that fat pads beneath the skin begin to shift and diminish over time, and Dr. Kobets adds that bone density loss—particularly in the midface and jawline—contributes to the sagging and hollowing that shows up later. "Clinically, this shows up first as fine lines in areas of movement," she explains, "and later as deeper folds, volume loss and changes in contour."

Dr. Lee adds one more culprit that often gets overlooked: chronic low-grade inflammation, which accelerates collagen breakdown and impairs the skin's ability to repair itself. The result is skin that doesn't just thin gradually; it loses its ability to bounce back.

Related: The 12 Best Collagen Masks, According to Dermatologists

Can You Restore Skin Volume Without Injectables?

Honestly? Partially. Every expert we talked to is consistent on this: topical skincare cannot fully replace the structural volume loss that comes from fat and bone changes. Injectables and in-office treatments do things that no serum can replicate. But that framing undersells what consistent, well-formulated skincare can genuinely accomplish.

"Topical products can absolutely improve hydration, texture and the overall appearance of plumpness, but it's important to set realistic expectations," shares Dr. Hovenic.

Dr. Kobets frames the goal as "improvement and prevention, not true restoration"—which, when you think about it, is still enormously valuable.

Dr. Son sees real promise in what he calls "regenerative medicine," skincare approaches focused on activating the skin's existing mechanisms to slow or sometimes partially reverse age-related changes. "Early intervention is the key," he says, which is the dermatological equivalent of telling you to start before you think you need to. So, probably today?

What Ingredients Actually Help Plump Skin?

Getty

The consensus across all seven experts points to a core stack; peptides, retinoids, hyaluronic acid and ceramides—each doing a different job that the others can't fully replace.

Retinoids are the most researched, Dr. Saedi notes. They accelerate cell turnover and support collagen production over time, improving epidermal thickness in a way that genuinely affects how plump skin looks and feels. Dr. Kobets explains that in the short term they exfoliate; long-term, they increase collagen synthesis.

Peptides are the ingredient with the most momentum right now. Different types do different things—signaling molecules that support collagen and elastin pathways, delivery peptides like copper that help with healing, enzyme-inhibiting peptides that reduce collagen breakdown. The mechanism is more complex than hyaluronic acid's immediate draw-water-in approach, but the cumulative results are significant.

Hyaluronic acid delivers that immediate, visible plumping effect by drawing water into the skin. The catch, as multiple experts point out, is that the effect is transient—it's building the foundation, not the structure.

Ceramides complete the picture by reinforcing the skin barrier so all that hydration actually stays put.

What doesn't work? Oral collagen and topical collagen products come up repeatedly.

Dr. Son is blunt: "Topical collagen and oral collagen simply won't be delivered adequately to the skin." Dr. Saedi acknowledges that some studies show modest improvements in hydration and elasticity from oral collagen, but says the marketing far outpaces the current research.

The Peptide Hack That's the Secret to Naturally Plumper Skin

Dermatologists recommend building your skincare routine around a peptide serum.

Peptides are the ingredient category with the most exciting recent science behind them, and Dr. Hovenic's pick—the Biossance Squalane + Copper Peptide Rapid Plumping Serum—pairs them with hydrating ingredients that support both firmness and elasticity over time.

Dr. Kobets recommends the Dr. Whitney Bowe P46 Peptide Serum specifically for its lightweight texture and collagen-signaling function, while Dr. Saedi swears by the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex, which she uses herself.

"A recent clinical study showed improvements in the appearance of plumpness, hydration, elasticity and volume over time," she explains.

8 More Ways To Plump Skin Naturally, According to Dermatologists1. Layer hyaluronic acid on damp skin

The application method matters as much as the product itself. Dr. Saedi's shares that it floods the skin with hydration, and fully hydrated skin appears measurably plumper.

Applying hyaluronic acid to slightly damp skin—before it fully dries—allows it to draw ambient moisture in rather than pulling water from deeper skin layers. Dr. Hovenic recommends the Ourself Advanced Regenerative Serum for its use of multiple molecular weights of hyaluronic acid, delivering hydration at different depths simultaneously for both immediate and longer-lasting results.

2. Add a retinoid and stick with it

This is the one that requires patience, but the payoff is real. Dr. Kobets recommends Avène Retrinal (retinaldehyde) as a more tolerable option for sensitive skin—it converts to retinoic acid on the skin but more slowly, with less potential for irritation.

The consistent theme across all experts: start slow, don't skip nights and give it at least three months before evaluating results.

3. Make sunscreen non-negotiable

Dr. Son is the most emphatic about this one, and he frames it not as a skincare step but as *the* skincare step. "UV radiation is known to accelerate skin aging and simple sunscreen can provide large dividends," he says.

Dr. Kobets agrees, calling daily broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen with iron oxides "the single most important factor" in preventing collagen breakdown. Dr. Conway adds that UV radiation is a leading cause of structural volume loss—meaning every day you skip SPF, you're actively working against every other step in your routine.

4. Invest in a microcurrent device

At-home tools have evolved significantly, and microcurrent is the category with the most consistent dermatologist endorsement. Dr. Hovenic recommends the NuFACE Trinity, explaining that microcurrent devices help temporarily lift and tone facial muscles, enhancing the appearance of firmness and subtle volume when used consistently.

Dr. Kobets also endorses LED and microcurrent devices for their ability to improve tone and contour through muscle stimulation. The key word is "consistently"—these tools require regular use to maintain results.

5. Strengthen your barrier with a ceramide moisturizer

Volume loss and dehydration often look identical on the surface, which means a seriously good barrier moisturizer can produce more visible results than people expect.

For a budget-friendly option, both Dr. Hovenic and Dr. Kobets independently recommend CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, which delivers ceramides and hyaluronic acid at a price point that makes daily use genuinely sustainable.

6. Prioritize sleep like it's a skincare product

Because it is, essentially. Dr. Lee calls it out as one of the most impactful lifestyle habits for skin volume, noting that sleep supports repair and collagen production while chronic sleep deprivation accelerates breakdown.

Dr. Conway adds that deep sleep encourages tissue repair and skin healing while adequate water intake helps decrease transepidermal water loss. Dr. Hovenic mentions an emerging factor worth noting: patients on GLP-1 medications for weight loss are experiencing facial volume loss as a side effect, and working with a dermatologist to address this proactively makes a real difference.

7. Eat for collagen production

The dietary angle is more substantive than wellness marketing would have you believe. Dr. Kobets points specifically to a vitamin C-rich diet, since vitamin C is an essential cofactor for collagen synthesis—not just an antioxidant.

Dr. Lee adds that adequate protein intake matters for the same reason. The practical version: more citrus, leafy greens, fatty fish and lean protein; less of anything that drives systemic inflammation. Dr. Son views skin health as inseparable from overall wellness, and the research on inflammation and skin aging backs him up.

8. Skip the collagen supplements and invest elsewhere

This is the expert consensus on what not to do, delivered with unusual unanimity. Dr. Son, Dr. Saedi, Dr. Kobets and Dr. Lee all flag oral and topical collagen as an overhyped category. The molecules are too large to penetrate the skin topically, and the evidence for oral supplementation improving visible plumpness is modest at best.

"The marketing around it is definitely stronger than the current research," Dr. Saedi says plainly. The money you'd spend on collagen supplements is almost always better directed toward a proven retinoid, a peptide serum or a quality SPF.

How to Book a Quick, Last-Minute 'Points-Cation' Without Getting Burned

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 4:10am

We’ve all seen the social media posts: an influencer sipping champagne in a lie-flat pod they booked for "pennies" on the dollar. But when you try to find that same deal for a quick weekend getaway, the math rarely adds up. According to Jimmy Yoon, Head of Points Intelligence at point.me, you aren't doing anything wrong—you’re just fighting a lopsided battle. "The best deals that you typically see on social media are typically booked through programs that only have access to at most two seats at those prices," Yoon explains. "It’s highly competitive, which is why you’re unable to replicate it."

Instead of chasing "unicorn" deals, the smart move for 2026 is the "Points-Cation"—using your loyalty stash to hack the "microcation" trend. Here is how to navigate the world of award travel without falling into the "points-creep" trap.

The 2-Hour Radius Rule

If you want to maximize your points, stop looking at Europe and start looking at short-haul routes under three hours. These "microcations" are the sweet spot for award travel because they often have lower pricing thresholds. "Short-haul routes tend to have lower award pricing thresholds, making them ideal for quick trips," Yoon notes.

The strategy is simple: let the destination choose you. By using flexible search tools to scan a 2–3 hour radius from your home airport, you can find spots where award pricing hasn't caught up to last-minute cash spikes. While cash fares for a Friday-to-Sunday trip tend to skyrocket, award pricing often lags behind, allowing you to snag a "free" seat on a flight that would otherwise cost $500.

Avoiding the "Cash Creep" in Award Travel

The biggest risk of using points is "points-creep"—the moment you realize that after taxes, baggage fees and seat selections, your "free" flight is actually more expensive than a budget cash fare. To avoid this, Yoon suggests being selective about which program you use. "Every airline program charges taxes and fees differently. Some carry over all fees to the member, which can easily add up to $1,000 in each direction!"

To keep your "points-cation" actually free, stick to programs like United MileagePlus or Delta SkyMiles, which are known for not charging members heavy fees outside of government-imposed taxes. Also, be wary of booking Low-Cost Carriers (LCCs) like Spirit or Frontier with points. Their business model relies on "ancillary fees" that can quickly negate the value of your points.

The "Positioning" Play: A Trip Within a Trip

If you have your heart set on a specific international gateway, don't try to book the whole journey on one reservation. Instead, consider "positioning" to a major hub like NYC, Boston, or Miami on a separate flight.

"Generally speaking, the closer you are to the continent you’re traveling to, the higher the chance you have of securing lower-priced award tickets," says Yoon. If you are heading to Europe, look for flights out of the Northeast; for South America, aim for Miami. Just remember to build in a massive buffer—or better yet, an overnight stay—since airlines won't protect you if your first flight is delayed and you are on separate reservations.

The "Set and Forget" Strategy

The most effective way to beat the system in 2026 is to stop manual searching. Tools like point.me now offer price alerts that notify you when an award seat drops in price. "You can book your flight, then 'set and forget,'" Yoon advises. "If an email comes about a lower price, you can contact the airline and rebook your flight for free or a nominal fee."

Whether you're looking for a same-day "early flight out, late flight back" trip to eliminate hotel costs entirely, or a shoulder-season long weekend, the key is flexibility. By traveling on less popular days (Tuesdays through Thursdays) and setting alerts early, you can finally turn those "points influencer" dreams into a reality—minus the champagne-colored headaches.

Quote of the Day: Civil Rights Activist Rosa Parks on Taking Risks and Effecting Change

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 2:45am

One of the most famous people in American history is Rosa Parks. Born on Feb. 4, 1913, Parks became one of the most well-known civil rights activists when she boarded a bus in Montgomery, AL, on Dec. 1, 1955, and sat in the front. As we all probably know, the bus driver tried to have Parks move to the back of the segregated bus once it filled up, because she was in the “white” section. She refused to move and was arrested for disorderly conduct. Her actions sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, “one of the largest social movements in history,” per the National Women’s History Museum. So, as someone who is known for her actions and her resistance, our quote of the day from Parks is all about that and the failure that lies within not even trying.

As the NAACP reported, Rosa Parks was in charge of the youth division at the Montgomery branch of the NAACP at the time. She has said that she was inspired to act because of 14-year-old Emmett Till’s brutal lynching in August 1955. Even though many of us were taught that Parks was immensely tired that day, it was a planned act of resistance, one that others before Parks had already done. As the National Women’s History Museum wrote, Parks has said that she didn’t give up her seat because she was tired, nor was it because she was old (she was only 42). “No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in,” she said.

Parks and her husband moved to Hampton, VA, and then settled in Detroit, MI, after her arrest. And for the rest of her life, she fought for equal rights and was an active member of the Civil Rights Movement, helping different causes and individuals. She died on Oct. 24, 2005, and her legacy lives on

Today’s quote is basically the epitome of Parks’s attitude toward revolutionizing a broken system and transforming things for the better. It also reminds us that not even trying to do any of that is a failure in itself.

Quote of the Day by Rosa Parks

CanvaPro/Parade

“To bring about change, one must not be afraid to take the first step, or else it will not be done. I believe that the only failure is failing to try.”

This quote comes from Dear Mrs. Parks: A Dialogue with Today's Youth, a 1996 book that is a collection of children’s letters to Parks and her responses. The popular version is worded a bit differently—“To bring about change, you must not be afraid to take the first step. We will fail when we fail to try,"—but according to the source material, the above wording is actually what Parks said.

In the last chapter, titled “Making a Difference,” one child wrote to her and shared that they moved from Africa to New York. The child asked what it was like for Parks as a Black woman in the United States, and if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” is outdated. In her response, Parks wrote that she was lucky and thankful to have lived as long as she had. She then writes the quote above.

Parks goes on to say that Dr. King’s dream is “still very much alive in America and in the world,” though it’s not “completed.” She writes that, despite his and other civil rights leaders and activists’ efforts, discrimination and inequality are still issues in the country. But despite that, she’s not discouraged from fighting and “pushing ahead.”

“We need to continue to struggle to realize our goal of equality,” she wrote.

Deeper Meaning of Rosa Parks’s Quote—Taking the First Step and Not Being Afraid To Try

This quote really explains her philosophy, at least when it came to her resistance on the bus in Montgomery, AL, and in her fight for equal rights. If you want the status quo to change, you need to do so yourself. You can’t count on others to do something about it, and you need to fight for what you believe in. And once you decline to try, you’ve truly failed.

A lot of us are scared of missing the mark or failing before we even try, which is understandable. But Rosa Parks’s words ring true here; if you never try, you, of course, won’t be unsuccessful, per se, but you’re failing anyway by not making any progress.

And this quote can even hit at less serious things than making positive changes in society. You can use this in your own life with personal relationships or your goals. In order to move forward in your life and with your ambitions, you have to just do it. If you don’t, you will have nothing to fail at but you also won’t gain anything, either.
