1981 Loverboy Hit Showed a Different Side of the Band—and Was Born From the End of a 12-Year Relationship
In the early 1980s, Loverboy was known for high-energy party rock songs such as “The Kid is Hot Tonite,” “Turn Me Loose," and “Working for the Weekend.” But one song from the band’s 1981 Get Lucky album showed a different side of the Canadian rock band—and it’s a track fans still resonate with today.
The song, “When It’s Over,” is the second single on the iconic album. Written by Mike Reno and Paul Dean, the power ballad features emotional lyrics about a relationship falling apart, while offering hope that a new beginning could come after the heartbreak.
The song reached No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of Loverboy’s highest-charting singles.
Reno shared the backstory on "When It's Over" during a 2022 appearance on the Your Online Coffee Breakpodcast, where he revealed it was still one of his favorite songs to perform.
“It was I wrote broke basically after a 12-year relationship went a bust and it was to no, well, I thought to no fault of my own of, course,“ he shared. “But I went on tour and we were invited to do this tour with Kansas right off the bat, as soon as the first album was finished. And I, you know, we couldn't say no. So my girlfriend, for some reason, said, ‘If you take that tour, I'm not gonna be here when you get back.’ I thought she was kidding. Right. Because I knew I'd be away for a while. And as it turned out, I came home after the tour, and she was gone.”
“I kind of wrote the whole thing, ‘I hope you're with me when it's over,’" the Loverboy frontman continued. “And it was over, obviously. But I wanted to be friends because we never had a bad thing to, you know, to say to each other. It was just she wanted to do something, and I had to do something different.”

More than 40 years after “When It’s Over” was released, comments on its YouTube video note that the Loverboy fans were “lucky” to have grown up at a time when the band's music was popular.
“Who else thinks this song rocks 40 years after it was released?” one YouTube commenter asked.
“80's girl forever 💕 55 and still listening in 2025,” another wrote.
“I'm 56 and still listening to this masterpiece! What a great time the 80's were,” another chimed in.
Decades after "When It's Over" was written, the song is a reminder that behind Loverboy’s energetic rock anthems was a band that was also able to show a vulnerable side—one that continues to resonate decades later.

Jill Zarin is mourning the loss of her mother, Gloria Kamen, who became a memorable presence on The Real Housewives of New York City and won over fans with her blunt, no-nonsense advice.
Zarin announced Gloria’s death at age 91 in an emotional Instagram tribute, calling her mother her “best friend, my mentor, and the most important person in my life.”

Gloria was perhaps best remembered by RHONY fans for a Season 2 heart-to-heart with Bethenny Frankel, when she offered the reality star tough-love relationship advice after Bethenny opened up about her painful childhood. Gloria famously told Bethenny that she would be her mother, too, joking that she would act as her “surrogate mother.”

Zarin also referenced her and Gloria’s book, Secrets of a Jewish Mother, which was featured on RHONY, writing, “She was the real OG housewife who raised incredible women and touched the lives of millions with her counsel and kindness.”
Among those offering condolences in the comments was Bethenny, who was once Zarin’s best friend before their friendship ended in an explosive falling-out.
“I am so sorry for this significant loss and wish your family peace and healing,” Bethenny wrote.
Other former RHONY stars, including Kelly Bensimon and Aviva Drescher, also shared condolences. Zarin’s boyfriend, Gary, posted his own tribute to Gloria.
“Her life was Sol and her girls. Her legacy lives on thru them and the countless she lent an ear to and gave honest and incredibly helpful advice when they needed it most,” he wrote. “Gloria Kamen spent a large portion of her life helping others with no expectation of getting anything in return. She will be missed terribly.”
Other Real Housewives stars also paid tribute in the comments, including Alexis Bellino and Gretchen Rossi from The Real Housewives of Orange County and Marysol Patton and Alexia Nepola from The Real Housewives of Miami.

As fans have waited for a third installment of The Princess Diaries,Julie Andrews now reveals she will not be reprising her role as Queen Clarisse Renaldi in the third installment.
Andrews, 90, confirmed the news of her departure from the beloved Disney franchise while appearing on TODAY.com. She played the role of the Queen of Genovia in the first 2001 film and 2004’s The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, and says that it's "too late" for her to be involved.
When asked about details concerning The Princess Diaries 3, she commented, "I’m not going to be in it."
She continued, saying, "I think the story is slightly different, and I’m not quite sure how they’re dealing with that. But it’s too late for me to do it. I think the story has to continue in Princess Mia. It’s her story. It’s not really mine.”
Her handing off the crown toAnne Hathaway may break fans' hearts, but it's something the actor has talked about before. In 2022, she told Access Hollywood that the possibility of her reprising her iconic role was unlikely due to how much time had passed.
“I think we know that it’s probably not going to be possible. It was talked about very shortly after [the second sequel] came out, but it’s now how many years since then? And I am that much older and Annie the princess, or queen, is so much older. And I am not sure where it would float or run," she explained.
A few years later, she told TODAY.com that "sometimes it's best to leave a good thing alone." She added that she's not a fan of people milking a popular franchise until there nthing left. Although she did give some hope about a third film, she didn't expect it to become reality.
After years of fans asking for a new installment, Hathaway revealed in July that they had a "story breakthrough" with The Princess Diaries 3. She told SiriusXM's Radio Andy that they are "moving in the right direction" and had to rework the original script. The actor said it's hopefully "gonna be the one," but the project has taken a back seat amid her third pregnancy.
Meg Cabot, who wrote the original book series, confirmed she had read an early script of the third film and thought it was "amazing." Beyond Hathaway and Andrews, its unsure who of the original cast will return. Robert Schwartzman, who played Michael Moscovitz, revealed he had been in early talks about returning, but he now focuses on directing and producing. Héctor Elizondo has shown immense interest in rejoining the cast as the beloved head of security Joe in the third installment.

1972 Folk Classic, Written as a Tribute to Jimi Hendrix, Is One of Music's Most Tragic Songs
The fall of 1970 saw a lot of darkness for the music world as within the span of a month the destruction of drug abuse took Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix from the world. They were two monumental stars who changed the landscape of rock music. They both had so much more to show, and yet they were robbed from us. Everyone was deeply affected, especially Canadian rock royalty Neil Young, who picked up a pen after the tragedy and wrote "The Needle and the Damage Done," a song about the dangers of heroin and the stars it has slain.
"Everybody knows about heroin, and what can happen to people who use heroin. But most people don't think about it much, because they just don't want to think about it...Most people walk around thinking 'well I just don't know anybody who knows anything about that.' But I knew some people who knew something about it. Some really good artists. The ones that I know aren't dead yet, but the music they would've made for you people was definitely not there. So I just got affected when Hendrix and Joplin and all of that happened and some other people I knew...so I wrote this," is how Young introduced the song when he performed it live on the "Young Shakepseare" record.
The song was officially released on Young's smash hit album "Harvest" in 1972, which helped legitimize him from a guitarist switching to a solo career to one of music's greatest songwriters. This song is a great example of that, taking the quality exemplified by early Bob Dylan to capture the emotion of a point in time, and turn it into a song that gives voice to the thousands. The lyrics are simple, powerful, and instantly understandable.

The song captures the inescapable tragedy addiction brings, and feels almost prophetic for the stars we would lose in the future as time went on. That's the sort of thing that Young is so good at. He has this timeless style of writing that constantly feels antiquated and brand new at the same time. He has a powerful simplicity in his writing that finds its way to the heart very easily. that's what makes him one of my favorite songwriters ever.

Kaia Gerber Shares Rare Comment on Brother Presley's Battle With Drug Addiction
Kaia Gerberis opening up about family struggles involving her brother Presley, as he made headlines over the years related to his longtime drug addiction.
The 24-year-old model and actor recently graced the cover of Vogue magazine alongside her The Shards co-star Homer Gere. During the interview, Gerber made a rare comment about her "very human" older brother Presley, who's made headlines since 2019 about his struggles with substance abuse and mental health.
“When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,” said Gerber. “I think that’s also why I started to self-identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help. Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing."
She adds that her parents,Cindy Crawfordand Rande Gerber, have kept their family life "very, very private" and "didn't share anything" about their son's struggles. Instead, Presley chose to speak publicly about his experiences, earning his sister's praise for facing them openly.
“We have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone.’ There’s only so much you can hide from the world,” she explained. "And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them."
In 2019, Presley was arrested on a DUI charge at the age of 19 and pleaded no contest with a probation sentence, community service, and an alcohol-education program. It was later reported by media outlets that he had been previously sent to a rehabilitation facility in the hope of getting him help.
In December 2025, Presley began to openly talk about his struggles with alcohol, drugs, and his mental health. He posted on Instagram that he was taking Buprenorphine, a drug used to treat opioid use disorder and pain, as well as a small dose of Xanax for panic attacks

Between doctors and research, he openly said they were figuring out the right dosage of medication and “hopefully between my research and their research and the world and God, we can finally figure this out.” He also disclosed having had a fentanyl overdose in 2024 that left him in a coma for several days.
In his recovery journey, he revealed having stopped drinking alcohol after his birthday in July 205. He explained that the alcohol was "no longer serving" him and has found ways to cope through exercise and saunas.
"So you feel like you’re not alone, because that is how I feel most of the time and I have a feeling that if I say all of this, a lot of people will at least know that there's someone else going through it,” he said about having posted about his journey. “And the second thing is, hopefully I find some people out here and are willing to help or know someone that can help.”

Coca-Cola’s Personalized Cans Have Some Christians Calling for a Boycott
Another day, another boycott. This time around, Coca-Cola is at the center of controversy due to its Share a Coke personalization tool.
According to the company, the tool is designed to allow soda lovers "celebrate with one another and make connections" by putting their favorite names and phrases on the brand's iconic bottles and cans.
However, some users of the personalization tool discovered that religious phrases including the name of Jesus were allegedly blocked.
One Instagram user by the name of Ryan Haff did a live demonstration of the tool, showing how the preview tool did not work when he wrote out "Jesus is King" or "Jesus is Good." Instead he received an error message.
Many Christians are now calling for a boycott of the soda company, with many posting videos on social media dumping Coke products down the drain.

Coca-Cola has responded to the backlash, reassuring customers that along with a technical issue, the company has a separate review process for all religious phrases.
"We created the Share A Coke personalization tool for Coca-Cola fans to celebrate with one another and make connections by creating bottles and cans with special names or phrases on them. We are aware of a technical issue affecting the personalization preview tool where variations of restricted terms were visible in preview mode online; however, these restricted phrases would not have been approved for production through our review and moderation process, as they do not follow our content guidelines," a Coca-Cola spokesperson told Parade.
"While we review and take corrective action, we have disabled the preview feature and paused new online personalized product orders to prevent the creation of previews that use restricted terms that violate our guidelines. We have safeguards in place to prevent the approval and production of cans and bottles featuring religious, political, trademarked, inappropriate, or otherwise restricted terms and phrases. We will continue to enhance this tool based on consumer feedback."
On the Coca-Cola website, it is reiterated that "Phrases that do not pass moderation are canceled, refunded, and not fulfilled." At the time of this writing, personalized cans have been marked "out of stock" on the company's website.
1966 Rock Song, With 17-Year-Old Singer of the Spencer Davis Group, Became a No. 1 Hit
Sometimes all it takes is one hit to change a band's future.
For the Spencer Davis Group, that song was "Somebody Help Me." Released in 1966, the infectious rhythm-and-blues rocker featured Steve Winwood, who was just 17 years old when it became the band's first No. 1 hit on the UK Singles Chart, launching both the group and its teenage frontman into the spotlight.
The song had already proven its strength before the Spencer Davis Group recorded it.
Written by Jamaican singer-songwriter Jackie Edwards, "Somebody Help Me" blended catchy pop hooks with authentic R&B influences. The band transformed it into a high-energy rocker, with Winwood's remarkably soulful vocal becoming the record's defining feature.
It was hard to believe the singer was still a teenager.
Despite being only 17, Winwood delivered a performance with the confidence and emotional depth of a seasoned blues veteran. His powerful voice immediately distinguished the Spencer Davis Group from many of the other British bands emerging during the mid-1960s, helping establish the young musician as one of the most gifted vocalists of his generation.
"I started out with the love of music," Winwood told Louder. "That's how I came to rock music. That may sound obvious, but a lot of people came to rock music for a lot of other reasons: they wanted to change the world, or get laid, or get stoned… whatever. Or just to do something that wasn't as hard as doing a proper job. I went to music college when I was 13-14. I got thrown out as well. But the music is the thing that never dies."
The record quickly climbed the charts.
"Somebody Help Me" reached No. 1 in the United Kingdom, giving the Spencer Davis Group its breakthrough success. The hit opened the door to an impressive run that included chart-toppers like "Keep On Running" and internationally acclaimed classics such as "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm a Man."
For Winwood, the song marked the beginning of an extraordinary musical journey. But, Spencer Davis Group wasn't creatively fulfilling for the burgeoning star.
"I was pretty ignorant," Winwood told Rolling Stone. "With a song like 'Somebody Help Me,' for instance, like suddenly this guy came around and said, 'Here's a song for you to sing,' he just arrived in the studio like that. I just wasn't into it. 'Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm a Man" were more personal, but I sort of did them, I didn't think about it much."
Within a few years, he would leave the Spencer Davis Group to form Traffic, later join the supergroup Blind Faith, and eventually enjoy a celebrated solo career. Yet "Somebody Help Me" remains one of the recordings that first showcased the remarkable talent that would make him one of rock's most respected musicians.
Sixty years after topping the charts, "Somebody Help Me" still stands as one of the defining records of the British rhythm-and-blues explosion. Featuring a 17-year-old Steve Winwood at the microphone, the song became a No. 1 hit and the first major milestone in a legendary career.

To understand how to eyemaxx to the absolute fullest, Parade spoke with Michelle Radow, a two-time Emmy-nominated makeup artist based in Los Angeles and current head of the makeup department for Baywatch. Here's everything you need to know about eyemaxxing, according to a makeup artist.
What Is Eyemaxxing?Eyemaxxing is a viral eyeshadow application makeup trend that's been recently taking over social media. According to eyemaxxing, you should use complementary shades on the color wheel to your eyes to make your irises "pop" and enhance their natural hue.
"Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel are called complementary colors," Radow says. "An example to understand this concept is how to cancel out someone's under-eye darkness. If someone's under-eye darkness is appearing more bluish to me, opposite on the color wheel is orange, so I would want to cancel it out with an orangey/peachy shade. If someone has extreme redness in their skin, often using something with a green tint will neutralize that. Someone who has a very yellow undertone, I know using purple eye shadows on them will look very neutral and natural."

"It's essential to know how colors work together, complement each other and how they can cancel each other out. It's so important to be able to confidently recognize colors in the skin so you can expertly match, adjust and neutralize."
It goes beyond just the color of your eyes, though. Chris Carter Explains Horror vs. Mulder and Scully Romance in New X-Files Director's Cut (Exclusive)
Chris Carter didn't just want his director's cut of The X-Files: I Want to Believe to be scarier. He wanted it tighter, and that meant cutting scenes some fans might have expected him to keep.
In an exclusive interview with Parade, the X-Files creator revealed that he deliberately pulled back on Fox Mulder and Dana Scully'sromantic material in the new cut, a choice he knows won't sit well with everyone. And while fans may have expected this restored version to simply be more gory, Carter says the real change is about something deeper.
"A lot of things have happened since 2008 when the movie came out," Carter said. "There have been two X-Files reboots, so I felt like the hardcore fans had gotten a lot of Mulder and Scully through those reboots, and we didn't need to have as much Mulder-Scully relationship romance in this movie. So I cut that back a bit, and I'm sure some people will be upset with me. But I felt what I really wanted to show was the scary movie we set out to make, and I feel like we've done that now."

Despite fan chatter suggesting the director's cut would pile on new gore, Carter said the opposite was true. "There actually was a lot more of that. I cut it down a little bit because there's a point at which it gets overplayed, and I didn't want that. A little went a long way for me."
The film's emotional foundation, Carter revealed, came from an unexpected source: a lecture by religious scholar Houston Smith. "I'll tell you quickly that 'Don't Give Up' came to me as a result of a lecture I had seen," Carter said. Smith had spent nearly an hour and a half discussing world religions, faith, darkness and light, when someone in the audience asked him to sum up everything he'd learned in a single phrase. "'Don't give up' is what he said," Carter recalled, words that made their way into the film. "Those were three magic words. They could be considered cliche, but it's the secret to life, is not giving up ever. That's what I wanted this movie to be about, as well as about Dr. Frankenstein."
That philosophy, Carter said, runs through nearly every major character. Mulder won't abandon his search for the truth. Scully won't give up on the young patient at the center of the case. Skinner won't stop searching for Mulder, no matter the obstacles.
Carter also opened up about a fight he lost the first time around, one that has stuck with him for nearly two decades. "We were asked to make a PG-13 movie, and so we thought we were making a PG-13 movie. When we showed it to the studio, they freaked out. They said, 'This isn't the PG-13 movie.' So we cut it back to satisfy the executives, and then we heard from the motion picture censors that we still didn't qualify for a PG-13 movie, so we had to cut it back even farther." Looking back, he called it a disappointment. "I feel like we never got to show the movie we set out to make."
Asked whether the film ultimately belongs to Scully, Carter didn't hesitate. "It's always Scully's movie. The X-Files wouldn't have succeeded without Scully. If it were just Mulder poking around in the dark, it would have been only so interesting. Scully, with her science background and her belief that science can explain everything, that is the beating heart of the show. Mulder just takes her on the wildest ride that she never imagined, and us as well. So it's Scully's movie until it's Mulder's movie."
A surprising revelation from the conversation traced the film's central horror (as well as a related two-headed dog), back to a scientist Carter spoke to firsthand. "The original inspiration for that was a doctor in Cleveland, Ohio, who performed successfully the transplant of a monkey's head onto another monkey, and I had to go see this man," Carter said. "I flew to Cleveland, and I got to sit and talk to him about it. I thought this was science fiction, and he has turned it into science fact. That's kind of X-Files territory right there. That's really what originally inspired the movie."
That gruesome detail is reflected in the full title of the new cut, The X-Files: I Want to Believe – Vrach Frankenshteyn. That addition at the end is "Dr. Frankenstein" in Russian, reflecting the film's mysterious antagonist.

Carter also defended the film's most divisive antagonist, the disgraced priest Father Joe, played by Billy Connolly, and pushed back on the idea that the film was ever just a monster-of-the-week horror story. "It's a smart movie. It's a scary movie. It's a movie that's got depth. It's got the collision of science and faith and perseverance and all the good elements of an X-Files story." On Connolly, Carter had nothing but praise. "I think it's a brilliant performance, and he's always been a favorite actor of mine. When I had the chance to ask him if he would do this, and he said yes, it was a big day for me."
Before wrapping up, Carter revealed he has a new project on the way with his wife. "It's called Queens for a Day," he said. "It's a horror fable, and we hope to have it in theaters in the next couple months." He described it as a story "about a very flawed person who has to go back and live life in someone else's shoes," adding with a laugh, "if that sounds a little like A Christmas Carol, it's not by mistake."

This 'Friday Night Lights' Star Didn’t Initially See Himself Taking on 'Lanterns' Role
When Lanterns co-creators Damon Lindelof,Chris Mundy, and Tom King envisioned who would play an older, wisened mentor figure version of DC hero Hal Jordan, also known as The Green Lantern, they immediately thought ofFriday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler. And it makes sense, Lindeloff told The Television Academy, "He’s got the gruff energy, the cynicism, also the nobility, the humor. He’s the entire package.” he said of seeing Chandler as a natural fit as Jordan taking John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) under his wing. But there was one problem: the actor had not expressed interest in joining any kind of superhero universe.
The Lanterns team at Warner Bros. shot their shot, and the story goes that Chandler opened the pilot, read some of it, and, like all heroes, refused the first call toward adventure. Eventually, Chandler reconsidered when he brought up the script to his wife and daughter, Sydney Chandler (Alien: Earth). Chandler told the Television Academy, “I said, ‘Would you guys read this with me? Let’s take characters and just read through the whole thing.’”

When they finished, Chandler shared that his family, “...both literally, at the same time, jumped up off the couch and pointed at me and said, ‘You have to do this.’ I was excited from that moment on.” At that point, signing on was a no-brainer since it would reunite the actor with HBO Max original programming head Sarah Aubrey, who previously ran Peter Berg’s Film 44 production company while the two worked on Friday Night Lights and would be leading the charge with Lanterns.
Chandler continued, “I’ve got like four lightning-in-a-bottle projects that I’ve done in my life that really stand out: Friday Night Lights, Bloodline, and Early Edition.” he noted Lanterns would be the fourth.
The show marks the third series of James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios era following the success of Peacemaker and The Penguin. Chandler looks forward to audiences seeing the relationship of his seasoned space cop training the newest Green Lantern recruit, John Stewart, teasing that one of the big sequences in the show really makes the dynamic between the two fan-favorite DC heroes shine. “You’re trying to figure out if your game plan is going to work with this guy, what he’s going to pull out, what that dance is going to be,” he said of working opposite Pierre. “And it didn’t take too long into the shooting. We’re just starting to really make fun of each other, find each other’s weak spots within the characters, and how to jab at each other and piss each other off. And once you find that, you know you can [create a moment].”
Lanterns premieres on HBO on August 16.

‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ Will Premiere in SeptemberThe news may be surprising for many. This is a show that took a long time to find a home. Sony Pictures Television backed the project as soon as the CBS series came to an end, filming the entire 10-episode season without any guarantee that it would air. The aim was to make sure none of the jobs in Hollywood disappeared after the back-and-forth between CBS and Sony.
After Bell Media in Canada picked up the cop series, STARZ followed suit. It also confirmed a premiere date before CTV and Crave would offer, with the first season set to premiere on Sept. 25, 2026. Filming of Season 2 is likely to start just after the premiere, but the writing work will already be underway!
The series is set to pick up after the events of the main series, and it rewrites the ending just a little. At the end of S.W.A.T. Season 8, Hondo was happy with his team, and he made it clear that there wouldn’t be a team without his family. Somewhere between then and the spinoff, Hondo was forced to retire, and now he’s being asked to come back to help with a new group of recruits who just don’t have it. 1971 Hit, Sung by Shirley Bassey, Ranked Among ‘Best Movie Soundtrack Songs’ of All Time
Movies have led to some of the most memorable hit tracks that still rank as some of the most noteworthy, with "Diamonds are Forever" sung by Shirley Bassey ranked as one of the best movie soundtrack songs.
Composer John Barry found success with the 1964 hit James Bond film Goldfinger. When it came to the 1971 follow-up installment, Diamonds Are Forever, starring Sean Connery, there was no question that Bassey would return to sing the title track. She had also performed the title track "Goldfinger" for the previous film.
The pop song would land at No. 57 on the Billboard Hot 100 and developed a lasting legacy that Collider ranked at No. 17 on their list of "Best Movie Soundtrack Songs of All Time." Despite the film not being as popular as Connery's previous portrayal of the MI6 spy, Bassey's powerful and sultry vocals led "Diamonds Are Forever" to become a movie staple.
To develop the track, Barry reunited with lyricist Don Black, whom he had worked with on Thunderball. The track itself was named after the film, which in turn was named after the Ian Fleming novel written in 1956. According to Far Out magazine, Fleming got the book title from an advertising slogan the De Beers mining company was using to sell their diamonds. They used the slogan "a diamond is forever," with Black developing lyrics for the track to mimic this idea.
When it came to Bassey singing the song, there was some debate behind the scenes. According to reports, producer Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli didn't think the track was suitable, and Saltzman felt the lyrics were too suggestive towards a man's genitalia. Black was told to rework the lyrics, but they ultimately didn't, as Broccoli approved the track and it was kept in the film.
Some details behind the song claim that Barry told Bassey to disregard the fact that the track is about diamonds. He told her to imagine she was singing to male genitalia, and amid some giggles, Bassey delivered one of her most powerful performances.
“He never said that to me when I was writing it. I was writing about a diamond!" explained Black in a 2008 interview with the Sunday Times.
While "Diamonds Are Forever" didn't receive the same chart status as "Goldfinger," it's often regarded as one of the defining songs of the James Bond franchise. It also became known as one of Bassey's signature tracks, as she would return to the spy franchise to sing the theme for Moonraker in 1979.
'80s Legends Men Without Hats Perform Iconic Hit at 2026 Festival, and Fans Say They 'Sound Fantastic'
When New Wave took over in the '80s, the idea of showmanship really came alive. Funky new beats were backed by zany caricatures in music, and Men Without Hats' Ivan Doroschuk helped define the genre with a little tune known as "The Safety Dance."
The song is a staple on '80s playlists, as it perfectly encapsulates the mood and cultural shift happening at the time. Originally, Doroschuk saw Men Without Hats as a punk band, but he noticed the shift in music and thought it better to keep up with the times.
“I just realized that pop music was one of the biggest platforms for getting a message across. So I made the switch from punk guitars to New Wave synthesizers for that reason,” Doroschuk said in the 2016 book, Is This Live?: Inside the Wild Early Years of MuchMusic: The Nation’s Music Station, according to uDiscover Music.
With bassist Stefan Doroschuk and guitarist Colin Doroschuk, as well as keyboardist Jérémie Arrobas, the band created their 1982 debut album Rhythm of Youth. By 1983, the second single was a chart-topper in both Canada (where the band originates from) and the U.S. While Men Without Hats is largely considered a one-hit wonder, the song and the group (though with a different lineup) still endure.
Recently, at the Totally Tubular Festival 2026, the band played their hit song, and audiences were shocked at how great they still sounded.

He felt that dance was an important way for people to express themselves and penned the ultimate dance song in retaliation that still resonates today.

Ofcom Slams Radio Station Over ‘Significant Inaccuracy’ After False King Charles Death Report
Back in May, a UK radio station made a grave error, accidentally announcing the death of King Charles. Radio Caroline took 30 minutes to issue an apology after going through the protocol when the monarch does pass away, and it immediately meant that the radio watchdog, Ofcom, had to step in.
The media regulator in the UK has now issued a report after the incident. It’s a harsh verdict, especially as more information about the reason the mistake happened has come to light.
The Incident Happened ‘Out of Curiosity’According to reports from Radio Caroline, a staffer started the protocol “out of curiosity.” The staffer was on site at the radio station, while the broadcast was being played from the presenter’s remote location. It led to a huge miscommunication, as the staffer was curious about what was in the files.
The Ofcom report shares that these files have a “set of strict instructions” that everyone at Radio Caroline must abide by. After playing the files, it stopped the entire broadcast and the staffer left the building after realizing what they had done. It meant that the presenter had to call in a station engineer after realizing what was going on with the stream.
Fortunately, the engineer already knew what had happened, but it took 30 minutes for the presenter to issue an apology on the air and correct the mistake. This was something else Ofcom looked into.

The first was due to reporting with accuracy and impartiality. It is one of the biggest rules in broadcast to ensure the people get the correct information at all times, especially with something of the scale of a king’s death.
Not only were significant mistakes made in the reporting, but the handling of the situation afterward did not meet the watchdog’s standards. The other breach was in the acknowledgment and correction on air. It shouldn’t have taken 30 minutes for action to be taken.
According to Radio Caroline, it continues to state that it “took the matter very seriously” and that action was taken “as soon as they could.” The station also shares that the staffer has since been “reprimanded” for their actions, while everyone at the station was reminded of the procedures that are in place. While it was the mistake of one person, the Licensee is the one at fault, as the responsibility to follow procedures is on them.
There have been no statements from Radio Caroline since the issue of Ofcom’s findings. While the breach has been noted, there is no information on action taken against the radio station.
Country Star Ella Langley Makes Billboard Charts History With 2 Songs
Ella Langley has made Billboard history by becoming the first woman to lead the Billboard Hot 100 and Country Airplay charts at the same time with two different songs.
Langley holds the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Choosin’ Texas,” while her collaboration with Morgan Wallen, “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” has moved to No. 1 on Country Airplay. The rare achievement makes Langley only the third artist to accomplish the feat since Country Airplay began in January 1990.
The chart issue is dated Aug. 15, 2026.
Before Langley, only Morgan Wallen and Lonestar had reached the same milestone. Wallen did it in 2025 with “What I Want,” featuring Tate McRae, on the Hot 100 and “I’m the Problem” on Country Airplay. Lonestar reached the mark in 2000 with “Amazed” and “Smile.”

The song previously shared the 16-week mark with several major hits, including Wallen’s “Last Night,” Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” featuring Justin Bieber, and Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day.”
Only three songs have stayed at No. 1 longer than Langley’s hit.
Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” remains the record-holder with 22 weeks. Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus each spent 19 weeks at the top.
“Choosin’ Texas” first reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 in February. For the latest tracking week, the song collected 24.9 million official streams in the United States, 54.5 million radio airplay audience impressions and 9,000 sales, according to Billboard.
Its radio audience increased 4%, while sales rose 9%. Streams were down 2% from the previous week.
The song also holds the No. 1 position on Streaming Songs and Digital Song Sales. It is No. 6 on Radio Songs after previously reaching No. 4.
Its success extends beyond the main all-genre chart. “Choosin’ Texas” has spent 35 weeks at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs, giving it the third-longest reign in that chart’s history.
Only “Meant To Be” by Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line, with 50 weeks, and Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” with 45 weeks, have spent longer at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs.
The song has also spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Songs of the Summer chart.
While “Choosin’ Texas” continues its long run on the Hot 100, Langley is also celebrating a new country chart leader.
“I Can’t Love You Anymore,” her collaboration with Morgan Wallen, has reached No. 1 on Country Airplay. The song is also No. 7 on the Hot 100 this week, after reaching a peak of No. 4.
The two songs give Langley a rare position: one song leading the biggest all-genre U.S. singles chart and another leading the country radio chart during the same week.
Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” has also gained strong attention across streaming platforms. The song has surpassed 600 million Spotify streams, while its two music videos have collected nearly 150 million YouTube views combined.
As Langley continues her Dandelion tour, “Choosin’ Texas” remains firmly in the center of her chart run.
