Blake Shelton couldn't let Luke Bryan's50th birthday pass without stirring up a little trouble.

The country star took to his Instagram Stories on Friday, July 17, with message aimed at both Bryan and his longtime manager, Kerri Edwards.

"Just found out Kerri Edwards wanted me to play at Crash My Playa next year but @lukebryan didn't want me there... He also asked Kerri to NOT wish me a happy birthday," the simple text read on Shelton’s Instagram Story.

While Shelton didn't add any context, fans of the pair will likely recognize it as the playful banter the duo has been known for over the years.

Edwards is the founder of KP Entertainment, the Nashville-based management company that has represented Bryan since 2006. She also helps oversee Crash My Playa, Bryan's annual four-day country music getaway in Riviera Cancún, Mexico (which is all-inclusive, we might add). 

Shelton had headlined the festival before, including 2017 when his then-gilfrined (now wife) Gwen Stefanijoined him on stage. The last time Shelton performed at Crash My Playa was in 2018, and it’s unclear why he hasn’t returned.

Shelton and Bryan have spent years poking fun at one another, both onstage and online. Earlier this year, Shelton interrupted a Las Vegas concert after spotting a fan wearing Bryan’s merchandise. "You come to my show wearing Luke Bryan s**t?" he joked before calling Bryan "an idiot" and teasing that the singer asks audiences to sing along because he's "too drunk to remember the words to his own song."

And Bryan isn’t the only pal Shelton has publicly picked on, The country hitmaker celebrated his own 50th birthday in June, and jokingly kept track of which friends forgot to send their well wishes. "I just wanted to say thank you for all the birthday wishes yesterday," he wrote on Instagram Stories before singling out fellow country star Trace Adkins and his wife, Victoria, for allegedly forgetting.

As for Bryan, he’s yet to respond to Shelton’s call out.

30 years after Kathie Lee Gifford’s late husband, Frank Gifford, had a tryst with former flight attendant Suzen Johnson, Kathie Lee is opening up about misconceptions around the infidelity.

“People call it an affair,” Gifford said on the Hang Out with Sean Hannity podcast. “No, an affair is not a tryst at a hotel one time. At all.”

Gifford opened up about what it was like at home at the time. She admitted that they didn’t watch TV, and she and her kids wouldn’t go into a store that sold tabloids.

“Little people do not deserve big people problems,” Gifford said.

Gifford continued, saying that her husband said that the tryst “wasn’t true.” But as soon as she found out that he did cheat on her, she forgave him “because that’s what Jesus says to do.”

“He was always on time,” Gifford recalled. “I’m a maniac about being on time, and so is he, and if he was going to be late, he’d call. And I remember going out on my deck and wondering, you know, and that’s when it hit me. I said, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s true. He’s dealing with the aftermath of that.’”

Although some reported that she left her home before reconciling with Frank, Gifford clarified that this isn’t true, and she never threatened divorce.

“He’s my hero,” Gifford said. “And it took a long, long time for me to gain trust again. But you know what I did? The Bible says, ‘Be anxious for nothing.’”

Gifford and her husband remained together for over two decades, until his passing on Aug. 9, 2015.

“I thought we had a great marriage,” Gifford said. “Great marriage. Great love life. I don’t like to call it a sex life. Sex is different than making love. And we had a great love life.”

More than 30 years after scoring his first country radio hit, Kenny Chesney is still finding new ways to make Billboard history.

This week, the country superstar officially broke one of the biggest records on Billboard's Country Airplay chart, moving ahead of fellow legends George Strait and Tim McGraw for the most top 10 hits in the chart's history.

According to Billboard, Chesney's latest single "Carry On" climbed to No. 9 on the July 25 Country Airplay chart after gaining 18 million audience impressions during the tracking week. The achievement gives Chesney 62 career top 10 hits on the chart, breaking the tie he previously shared with Strait and McGraw, who each have 61.

The milestone comes just two months after Chesney reached another remarkable Billboard achievement. Earlier this year, "Carry On" became his 100th career entry on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, placing him among the handful of artists to ever reach the century mark.

"Carry On" is also continuing to make history for another reason. The song is the first top 10 Country Airplay hit for Hey Now Records, the Nashville label Chesney joined earlier this year after signing with the company founded by longtime music executives Clint Higham, John Esposito and Kris Lamb.

Billboard noted that Chesney has long been one of country radio's most dominant artists. In addition to now owning the all-time record with 62 Country Airplay top 10s, he also has a chart-leading 33 No. 1 hits on Country Airplay. His songs have spent a combined 1,742 weeks on the chart, trailing only McGraw in total weeks.

The speed of Chesney's latest success is also notable. Billboard reports that "Carry On" reached the top 10 in just its 10th week on the chart. It's the 34th time one of his songs has cracked the top 10 within its first 10 weeks, a testament to the enduring strength of his music at country radio.

For Chesney, who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2025, the latest record is another reminder that one of country music's longest-running hit streaks is still going strong.

Bilaal Salaam, also known as Brother Bilaal and once a close friend of Will's, is now seeking to bring the King Richard Oscar winner into his ongoing lawsuit against Jada, requesting he sit for a deposition, according to new court documents obtained by PEOPLE. Salaam may be hoping Will can help him "make it look easy," but Jada's legal team isn't exactly rolling out the red carpet for the request.

The saga traces back to December 2025, when Salaam filed a $3 million complaint against Jada, 54, alleging that she confronted and threatened him in the lobby of the Regency Calabasas Commons back in September 2021. Jada, who's built a career being anything but camera-shy thanks to Girls Trip and Red Table Talk, has denied any wrongdoing and moved to dismiss portions of the lawsuit under California's anti-SLAPP law. That effort already scored her a win in May, when a court ordered Salaam, 56, to pay nearly $33,000 in her legal fees proof that in this legal matrix, she's the one bending the rules in her favor.

Now, with an email sent July 7, Salaam (who is representing himself in the case) is attempting to pull Will, 57, directly into the proceedings by requesting his testimony. Jada's team wasted no time firing back, stating there's "nothing to meet and confer about," since Will "is not a party to this litigation" and hasn't been formally served with a subpoena.

The pushback didn't stop there. In separate filings, Jada's lawyers accused Salaam of submitting "untimely responses" and failing to produce sufficient evidence, prompting a motion to compel. They're demanding he turn over recorded communications tied to the alleged threatening calls, along with medical records related to the emotional distress he claims to have suffered - evidence they say is essential to backing up the $3 million he's after.

With a trial request already denied, the next hearing is set for August 19th. Whether Will ends up testifying or not, one thing's for sure: for the Smiths, this legal drama isn't fading away like it's Men in Black.

Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’” became an instant classic when it opened his debut solo album, Full Moon Fever, in 1989. But nearly a decade later, the song found a memorable second life on the big screen, thanks to Jerry Maguire and Tom Cruise.

Jerry Maguire is an endlessly quotable crowd-pleaser starring Cruise as a sports agent whose crisis of conscience costs him nearly everything before ultimately leading him to what matters most. Co-starring Renée Zellweger, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Regina King, the film comes from writer/director Cameron Crowe, whose knack for soundtracks is also top-notch.

A brilliant mix of classic rock, folk, and introspective pop, the film’s music showcases Crowe’s talent as a former music journalist, with deep cuts mingling with stadium anthems. There’s The Who’s "Magic Bus," Neil Young’s "World on a String," and Bob Dylan’s "Shelter from the Storm," alongside Aimee Mann's "Wise Up," Elvis Presley’s "Pocketful of Rainbows," and Rickie Lee Jones' "The Horses."

But, according to BBC’sMusic Magazine, the needle drop that stands out most comes relatively early in the film, during the iconic car scene. As Jerry cruises down a Los Angeles freeway after securing a client, he fumbles with the radio dial until he lands on the Petty classic then belts out the lyrics with unedited abandon.

“Nothing beats [Cameron Crowe’s] use of Tom Petty’s ‘Free Fallin’,” the outlet writes, setting the scene. “We see an elated Maguire—a sports agent who thinks he’s just secured a major deal—behind the wheel, attempting to sing along to The Rolling Stones before he realizes he doesn’t know the words. The next station is playing Merrilee Rush & The Turnabouts’ version of ‘Angel of the Morning’—again, not quite right. He tries another, but seems nonplussed by the few seconds of Gram Parsons’ weepie ‘She’ that he hears. But the next station is playing ‘Free Fallin’, and it hits just right, inspiring a cathartic singalong that feels like a pure expression of joy.”

The story behind the song is almost as spontaneous as the scene that made it unforgettable. According to Billboard, Petty and English singer-songwriter Jeff Lynne were sitting around entertaining each other during a jam session when they captured lightning in a bottle.

“Jeff Lynne and I were sitting around with the idea of writing a song, and I was playing the keyboard, and I just happened to hit on that main riff, the intro of the song,” Petty said. “Really just to amuse Jeff, honestly, I just sang that first verse. Then he starts laughing. Honestly, I thought I was just amusing Jeff, but then I got to the chorus of the song, and he leaned over to me and said the word, ‘freefalling.’”

Petty explained that he then attempted, and failed, to fit the three-syllable word into the allotted space: “I sang ‘freeee,’ then ‘free falling.’ And we both knew at that moment that I’d hit on something pretty good. It was that fast. … So we went in and made the record that day,” he said.

Petty and Lynne were right about the track. It was a smash. Peaking at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, “Free Fallin’” became Petty’s highest-charting and longest-charting solo single. It also helped catapult its parent album up to No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

In 1996, when Jerry Maguire was released into theaters, the song got a massive cultural and commercial boost. The memorable scene helped cement “Free Fallin’” as one of the defining rock songs of the era, giving it an enduring place in both music and movie history.

Forty-four years ago, beloved new-wave rock band Modern English released "I Melt with You"—a song that only took 10 minutes to write but remains a classic in the genre.

Released in August 1982 as the second single from their second studio album, After the Snow, "I Melt with You" became an instant fan favorite. The track was put on heavy rotation on MTV, first propelling it into the mainstream's focus. Writing "I Melt with You"

Although the track is frequently celebrated as a masterclass in new-wave songwriting, it only took about 10 minutes to pen. In an interview, lead singer Robbie Grey opened up about the surprisingly quick process of writing the track.

“I was definitely stoned when I wrote it,” said Grey. “It was during the day, I remember it really well. I sat down on the floor of my flat in London, a cheap place in the housing association, and wrote the verse just straight off in about 10 minutes.”

"I Melt with You" was a definitive shift away from the band's previous noise-punk foundation to a more romantic and atmospheric style. During the recording process, Grey had to consciously learn a new spoken-work singing technique, making the track uniquely intimate.

“He put them all in an order, and that’s how the musical side of it came about with the lyrics,” Grey reflected. “I wrote the words, but I never actually stood next to a mic and talked into it before. I always shouted into a mic. He showed me how to stand in front of a microphone and just talk into it, so that’s how you get that almost spoken word thing, which is what I think is kind of the charm of it, I suppose.”

Even after over four decades, "I Melt with You" continues to endure as a beloved new-wave staple. The song thrives on streaming platforms in the digital era, raking in over 97 million streams on Spotify alone.

Metal band The Number Twelve Looks Like You announced on Wednesday via Instagram that they will be embarking on their first headlining tour since fall 2019 to celebrate the upcoming 20th anniversary of their third album, Mongrel, which was released on June 19, 2007.

"For the first time ever, we're performing MONGREL in its entirety. And yes...somehow, in all the years since this record came out, we've never actually done that," the metal band wrote in their statement. "We’ve played plenty of these tunes over the years, but never ALL of them in ONE night. A few songs on this tour have never been performed live. Ever."

During these shows, which are set to start in San Antonio on Sept. 25 and conclude in Lakewood, Ohio, on Oct. 30, fans should expect The Number Twelve Looks Like You to perform the ten tracks from Mongrel, top-to-bottom. Other stops include Dallas, Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, Portland, Seattle, Denver, New York City, Orlando, Atlanta, Nashville, Columbus and more. "We don’t want to sound like anybody else. We stepped it up to the point where we’ve killed everything we’ve ever done previously, while a lot of bands that started out heavier have seemed to be going more melodic and easier on crowds — at least that’s the trend. It seems to be the path a lot of these heavy bands are going these days, and we didn’t want our fans to be like, ‘Oh no, it’s all just going to be melodic,'" Korman told MTV. "We wanted to make sure we really kicked some [explicit]. I don’t know where we fit in, genre-wise, but this record’s definitely something you’ve never heard before. On top of being incredibly heavy, there’s stuff in there that’s just the catchiest stuff I’ve heard in so long."

Korman also said that "you can't really define what a 'mongrel' is — it's just a crazy mutt — and all of our songs are just all over the place. We wanted this album to be just complete chaos, with no direction at all."

The Number Twelve Looks Like You was formed in New Jersey in 2001. While performing in early 2003, an A&R representative from Brutal Records saw them and signed the band. A year later, they released Put On Your Rosy Red Glasses, then signed with Eyeball Records, a bigger label, in October 2004. The Number Twelve Looks Like You released three more studio albums before disbanding in 2010 for six years. They eventually reunited in 2016 and released their most recent album, Wild Gods, in 2019.

The band emphasized in their Instagram post that this will be their only tour in 2026. Mongrel: The 20th Anniversary Tour is their first headlining tour since Fall 2019, when they were on the road to promote Wild Gods. The Number Twelve Looks Like You spent the past few years opening for other bands.

"We also wouldn’t have this record without the people who helped shape it into what it became. So much love to our boys Justin, Jamie, Jon, Chris and Casey," the band wrote towards the end of their caption. "Thank you."

The Number Twelve Looks Like You currently consists of Korman, Pareja, Cody McCorry and Michael DeMarco, the latter two both joining in 2024.

Tickets for the Mongrel: The 20th Anniversary Tour will go on sale on Friday. In addition, fans can pre-order a limited-edition remastered version of Mongrel on vinyl, which costs $30.

Rock stars are notorious for glorifying fame and excess. But Joe Walsh did the opposite with his 1978 hit “Life’s Been Good.” Turning rock-star clichés into a wry joke, he aimed his self-deprecating satire at the private jets, trashed hotel rooms, and other spoils he was confronted with as the legendary guitarist of the Eagles.

“I wanted to make a statement involving satire and humor, kind of poking fun at the incredibly silly lifestyle that someone in my position is faced with,” he explained in a 1981 interview with the BBC, via Ultimate Classic Rock. “In other words, I do have a really nice house, but I’m on the road so much that when I come home from a tour, it’s really hard to feel that I even live here.”

The result was Walsh’s biggest solo hit and one of classic rock’s most enduring feel-good anthems.

Released on June 10, 1978, as the centerpiece of Walsh’s fourth studio album, But Seriously, Folks…, “Life’s Been Good” entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 71 and quickly began climbing.

By July 1978, the mid-tempo track’s laid-back groove, talk-box guitar flourishes, and deadpan humor had pushed it into the Top 40. It reached No. 12 in August and held there for two weeks, enjoying overall a 15-week run.

Today, “Life’s Been Good” remains a staple of classic rock radio, though some outlets wish it aired more often—namely, American Songwriter.

“Despite being a fantastic blues rock gem from that year, I can’t remember the last time I heard it on the radio,” the outlet recently wrote. “Plenty of Joe Walsh’s other hits with the Eagles make it to classic rock radio stations today. ‘Hotel California’ and ‘The Long Run’ are just a couple of examples. But ‘Life’s Been Good’? Not so much, from my experience.”

As the lyrics proclaim, life has been good to Walsh—or at least, his song has. Nearly 45 years after its release, “Life’s Been Good” found new life when Dirty Heads recorded a reggae-rock cover for a new generation of fans.

“[The new version is] just this tongue-in-cheek, kinda ridiculous song about just f—in’ off and having a bunch of money,” Dirty Heads co-vocalist Jared Watson shared on the Tuna on Toast With Stryker podcast, via UCR. “Not that we’re these giant rock stars like Joe Walsh or anything, but we liked the take on it in that we are probably in a little bit more comfortable spot when it comes to [success]. And we could still make it tongue-in-cheek.”

The original version of “Life’s Been Good” ran beyond eight minutes, making it a defining example of a late-’70s album-oriented track, while a shorter edit helped propel it onto pop radio. Walsh also tucked a fun Easter egg onto the end: the “flock of wanh-wanhs” (IYKYK).

“It was recorded during an Eagles session,” legendary record producer Bill Szymczyk told Best Classic Bands. “One day during Hotel California, it was just [Don] Felder, Walsh, and me. Felder had a laugh—someone would f--k up, and he’d go, ‘Wah, wah, wah, wah, wah.’ That was his laugh.”

The 60-year-old singer served as the opening act for Styles' 12-night "Together, Together" residency at Wembley, a run that concluded on the Fourth of July, the same holiday weekend Swift and Kelce exchanged vows in New York. Twain made clear the decision was about honoring a promise rather than any reluctance to celebrate the couple, saying she would have done anything to be there and that attending would have been lovely. She also joked that if Styles ever gets married and wants her at his wedding, he will need to ask her much further in advance.

The overlap produced no apparent hard feelings on either side. Styles' partner Zoë Kravitz, a longtime friend of Swift's, reportedly attended the Madison Square Garden ceremony without him. Twain has also been a visible Swift supporter for years, and her Wembley dates with Styles marked a career milestone of their own. When she opened the residency's first night on June 12, fans flooded her social media with praise, celebrating the sight of a '90s country legend commanding a 90,000-person stadium at 60.

Twain is not the only music icon who turned down the invitation for a prior commitment. James Taylor, the '70s singer-songwriter Swift was named after, revealed earlier this month that he skipped the wedding to honor his decades-long tradition of performing at Tanglewood over the Independence Day holiday.

In 1973, American country singer Charlie Richrecorded the song"The Most Beautiful Girl," written by Billy Sherrill, Norro Wilson, and Rory Bourke. "The Most Beautiful Girl" was a combination of the two previously written tracks, "Mama McCluskie" and "Hey Mister." The song was included on Rich's albumBehind Closed Doors, which was released that same year.

The song, a classsic breakup ballad, tells the story of a man filled with regret after his partner after she walks out on him after the two have argued. Going up to strangers, he laments repeatedly, "Did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world?" as well as to "Tell her I'm sorry // Tell her I need my baby."

The song has gone on to be one of the biggest hits of Rich's career.

Upon release, "The Most Beautiful Girl" was an absolute smash hit and charted at number one on three separate charts on Billboardin the United States: the pop chart, the country chart, and the adult contemporary chart. In 1974, Billboard ranked the song at number 23 for songs of the year.

Music critics and listeners of the song love it for its smooth, countrypolitan sound and its relatable message. Many consider it, especially with Rich's vocals, to be one of the most defining moments in Nashville sounds.

Many artists have covered "The Most Beautiful Girl" over the years, including Dinah Shore (who changed it to "Guy"), Roy Clark, Engelbert Humperdinck, Andy Williams, Bobby Vinton, Perry Como, Slim Whitman, Jim Nabors, Johnny Mathis, The Isley Brothers, and ABBA singer Anni-Frid Lyngstad, who sang the track in Swedish.

Famously, in a 1992 episode of the hit sitcomSeinfeld, George Costanza (played by Jason Alexander) sings "The Most Beautiful Girl" in "The Pick" after he regrets breaking up with his girlfriend, Susan. The song is also used heavily in the 2018 horror movie, The Ranger.
