If you’re into whimsical decor, Home Depot has a trio of gnomes that could be the charming touch your space is missing. With their pointy hats, fluffy beards and storybook-inspired details, they bring a fun, playful touch to any room they’re in. They also fit right in with the cottagecore look that’s become a favorite among cozy home decor lovers.

The Glitzhome Fall Gnome 3-Pack is available now for $40, which breaks down to a little over $13 apiece. They’re dressed in harvest-inspired outfits, which makes them a natural fit for fall, but their classic gnome charm means you can keep them on display long after the season ends. Shoppers called them “adorable,” with one reviewer even dubbing them the “cutest gnomes ever.”

Each gnome features a long, fluffy gray beard, a pointy hat and a matching outfit finished with a buckled hatband. The trio measures about 13 inches tall, 5.75 inches wide and 4.75 inches deep. The gnomes also hold festive fall accessories like brooms, crows, and a pumpkin-shaped “Happy Harvest” sign.

Their compact size makes them easy to place on a mantel, console table, bookshelf or narrow window ledge. You can keep the set together for a coordinated display or separate them throughout your home to add seasonal decor to different spaces. They can also be paired with pumpkins, foliage and other fall accents to create a more layered look. If you’re feeling generous and have a fellow gnome enthusiast in your life, you could even set aside one or several gnomes to give as gifts.

Reviewers had plenty of praise for the set. One shopper said the gnomes’ colors were “bright and vibrant,” adding that their size was “perfect to decorate all around the house.” Another called them the “perfect tabletop size.”

Anna Faris, 49, and Isla Fisher, 50, Dance in Teeny Bikinis With ‘Spa Weekend’ Co-Stars in Viral Video

Thu, 08/20/2026 - 6:09pm

The ladies of Spa Weekend are giving fans a peek of the fun they had off-set.

Anna Faris, Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, and Michelle Buteau teamed up for a playful Instagram video on Thursday, August 20, showing the four co-stars dancing side-to-side together in what appears to be a hotel room while modeling their tiny swimwear.

“best friends, bathing suits & bad decisions!” read the caption on the co-authored post. “@spaweekendmovie serves up all the chaos you need!👙🥂✨”

A post shared by Michelle Buteau (@michellebuteau)

In the clip, Faris, 49, wore a brown bikini with blue-and-white stripes, while Fisher, 50, went bold in a bright pink and leopard-print one-piece. Mann, 54, opted for a tiny black bikini, while Buteau, 49, sported a royal blue swimsuit.

Fans rushed to the comments to cheer on the foursome.

“I love whatever is off with yall lol 😂 keep it off 👏,” one wrote.

“There’s no way that @lesliemann is over 30,” another noted.

“wait why is this my dream cast,” said a third, while a fourth replied, “Bodies are Bodying 😍.”

Filming for Spa Weekend took place at an Australian resort, where the cast unexpectedly found themselves dealing with severe weather. Mann told PEOPLE Thursday that a cyclone forced production to shut down, recalling that “everybody had to stay home from work.”

The unexpected downtime apparently became a bonding experience. Faris described the weather as “crazy,” while Buteau compared the experience to summer camp and recalled everyone eventually meeting up at the bar.

Faris has also been getting personal ahead of the film’s release. During Thursday’s episode of Chelsea Handler’s Dear Chelsea podcast, the Scary Movie star discussed her sobriety and how it has changed her perspective. “Turns out there’s a correlation between drinking and depression, for me for sure,” Faris said. “I had to take a step back and not self-sabotage.”

She also reflected on experiencing depression toward the end of her seven-season run on Mom, which she left in 2020.

Now, Faris is back on the big screen—along with her fiery co-stars. Spa Weekend is set to hit theaters Friday, August 21.

Anna Faris Shares How Sobriety Changed Her Relationship to Fame

Thu, 08/20/2026 - 5:57pm

Anna Faris is opening up about how her recent sobriety has impacted her relationship with stardom.

During an appearance on the August 20 episode of Chelsea Handler’s Dear Chelsea podcast, the actress shared that although she was cast in Scary Movie early in her career, she initially struggled to book auditions for dramatic roles.

Related: Anna Farris Addresses Decades-Long Rumor She Secretly Mocked A-Lister in Oscar-Winning Movie

“I had a little bit of resentment… I did feel envious of people who got their big break in a different way,” Faris explained. “It was only in the last year that I started to notice and appreciate [that] when people recognized me, they would usually smile… They would be thinking about something f—–g stupid I did onscreen.’”

Handler suggested that perhaps sobriety played a role in this perspective change, replying, “I know you stopped drinking. So maybe that lit that up a little bit, right?”

Faris agreed, noting that one of the “many gifts” of quitting drinking was dealing with less of the “correlation between drinking and depression” that she had experienced in the past.

“I had to take a step back and not self-sabotage,” she added.

Faris went on to detail how appearing in the 2026 Scary Movie film helped her to reflect on the past few decades of her acting career.

She told Handler that when she saw Scary Movie star and co-creator Marlon Wayans on set of the latest movie,  “I leapt out  of my hair and makeup chair and I grabbed him by the forearms and I was like, ‘Marlon, I need you to know that I am so f—–g grateful to be here. I can’t believe I get to thank you in person.’”

“Getting to recognize and take in the gift that [Scary Movie director] Keenen [Ivory Wayans] gave me, and that opportunity to thank him for my comedic journey — the comedy world has given me so much that I did not realize,” Faris continued. “That’s been such a defining part of my life.”

This 3-Piece Set of Radiant Glass Vases at IKEA Gives a High-End Look for Just $15

Thu, 08/20/2026 - 5:55pm

There are a few simple home additions that can make a room feel more alive, and fresh flowers or greenery are always near the top of the list. You do not need a huge bouquet or an elaborate arrangement to make an impact, either. A single stem on a nightstand, a cutting on a windowsill, or a few small plants grouped together can bring color and personality to a space.

That is why small vases are such an underrated decor essential. They are easy to move around, work in almost every room, and give you a place to display whatever is in season. They can also be useful for plant lovers who enjoy propagating cuttings, starting seedlings, or growing an avocado pit at home.

They are especially thoughtful for plant propagation. Each vase has a narrow neck that helps reduce water evaporation, while the edge gives small leaves support as roots grow down into the water. That makes them ideal for displaying cuttings from pothos, philodendron, ivy, herbs or other plants you want to root before potting. IKEA also says they can be used for small seedlings and even larger avocado seeds.

If you are not a plant parent, the set still works beautifully for fresh flowers, dried stems, decorative branches, or diffuser sticks. The deep blue, warm amber, and smoky gray colors add a subtle vintage-inspired touch without being too bold.

At just under $5 per vase, this is an easy way to add color and functionality to your home without spending much. The set has a 4.7-star rating on IKEA’s site, and it is part of the retailer’s limited-edition DAKSJUS collection, which is available while supplies last.

Whether you are building a plant-propagation station or simply want a pretty place for a few grocery-store flowers, IKEA’s DAKSJUS vase set is a small home find with plenty of uses.

Rosie O'Donnell Shares Unexpected Message From 'Class Act' Barbra Streisand

Thu, 08/20/2026 - 5:45pm

Few people could make Rosie O’Donnell fangirl quite like Barbra Streisand.

The comedian, 64, wrapped up her week guest-hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! with a special message from one of her longtime idols. O’Donnell shared a screenshot of the note with her followers on Instagram on Thursday, August 20.

“From Barbra- It’s good to see you back on TV! Welcome home! xxxx Barbra,” the 84-year-old legend wrote.

View this post on Instagram

Considering O’Donnell’s decades-long admiration for Streisand, the message meant quite a bit to her. “Be still my heart – she is a class act – what a way to finish my week on Kimmel!!!” O’Donnell captioned the post.

Fans were equally thrilled by the unexpected exchange, with many celebrating alongside O’Donnell.

“I know how much this means to you. Beautiful,” one replied.

“So Ecstatic for you!!!! Love all the Love that is coming your way! “ said another.

Others noted how good it was to have the personality back on TV.

“We all missed you Rosie !! Having you back was like a “collective hug” we all needed,” one fan wrote.

Another commented, “You did great Rosie! It came across so much more real and relatable compared to most talk shows these days.”

O’Donnell never hid her love for Streisand during The Rosie O’Donnell Show, which aired from 1996 to 2002. Her connection to the singer also dates back to childhood. In her 2007 memoir, Celebrity Detox, O’Donnell recalled sharing that love with her mother, who died from cancer when O’Donnell was 10.

Her admiration made Streisand’s 1997 appearance on O’Donnell’s talk show even more memorable. Former writer and producer Judy Gold recalled on The Julia Cunningham Show in June that the set was even rearranged weeks ahead of Streisand’s visit to accommodate the star’s preferred camera angle.

Nearly three decades later, it seems the admiration goes both ways.

Best-Selling Author’s New Novel, the Latest From the ‘Queen of Twists,’ Ranked Among Amazon’s Most Read Books

Thu, 08/20/2026 - 5:33pm

Freida McFadden has another hit on her hands. The Divorce, one of the latest bestselling domestic thrillers from the author, has landed on Amazon’s list of the 20 most-read fiction books in the U.S., giving readers yet another reason to obsess over the writer known for jaw-dropping twists.

But that’s not the only reason The Divorce is making headlines. The standalone thriller is also already heading to the big screen.

Released on May 26, 2026, through Poisoned Pen Press, The Divorce follows Naomi Roth, a former medical doctor-turned-SAT mom, whose husband leaves her, empties their bank accounts, then hunkers down with a younger woman named Veronica. But because this is a tale from the author dubbed the “Queen of Twists” by her fans, not everything is as it seems.

“I want to keep it fun for myself,” McFadden told E! News of leaving her day job to write thrilling novels. “I left my job to do this, and I don’t want it to be a drag. I want it always to be fun. So, I’m trying always to do things that are a little different, step out of my comfort zone, and write things that require maybe a little more research. Each time, I try to stretch a little further.”

With The Divorce, McFadden steps outside of her traditional narrative comfort zone to explore the procedural and emotional destruction of a marriage weaponized by betrayal. Told through dual perspectives and shifting timelines, the novel also digs into trigger topics, like gaslighting and psychological abuse, to deliver a stunner akin to Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, Samantha Downing’s My Lovely Wife, and Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen’s The Wife Between Us.

Enjoying early success, The Divorce has already been optioned for a film adaptation, with Studiocanal and Working Title securing the rights ahead of the book’s publication, Deadline reported. The film buzz, coupled with the forthcoming movie sequel to The Housemaid, The Housemaid’s Secret, again starring Sydney Sweeney, only further cements McFadden as one of the genre’s fastest-rising stars.

McFadden, whose actual name is Sara Cohen, is also a practicing physician specializing in treating brain disorders and injuries. She balances her medical career with writing and raising her two kids with her husband, a juggling act she said she’s used to.

“I feel like being a mom and a doctor, I’m really used to multitasking,” she told E! News. “They’ll give me edits on one book, I’ll go through them, and then they’ll give me one on another book. So, I feel like I’m always ready for that next project. And I’m a hard worker, so I’m at my happiest when I’m working very hard.”

With multiple trips from the Amazon Charts to the big screen and a brand-new thriller, Brain Damage, already on the shelves, McFadden is proving that her biggest plot twist may be just how far her publishing empire has come.

Cozy season is so close, I can almost taste the pumpkin spice. The time for snuggling up on the couch with a steaming hot beverage, wrapped in a fluffy blanket to beat fall’s brisk chill, is nearly upon us. I’m a cold-natured person who uses blankets year-round — there’s one across my lap as I type this — so any deal on a fluffy new blanket gets me excited. But as we approach the cooler months, I’m especially looking forward to swapping out my lighter, breathable throw blankets for something more substantial. The Superior Arctic Boho Knit Jacquard Fleece Blanket looks like a downright dreamy choice.

Normally retailing for $35, you can snag this luxuriously chunky throw blanket for just $20 right now at ShopHQ. While the retailer is normally my secret to finding luxury jewelry and premium skincare at a steal, its elegant and affordable home goods selection is not to be missed either. This blanket is currently available in eight colors, ranging from neutrals like camel and ivory to deep hues like navy blue and green, as well as a trendy dusty orange shade. Several additional colors are already sold out in the throw-blanket size, so if you want to snag a certain color, now is the time to jump on this deal.

Made from 100% cotton, this knit fleece blanket features a hefty jacquard weave that gives it a decidedly bohemian style. Reviewers at ShopHQ who purchased this blanket said it feels “very soft and comfy.” The 50-by-60-inch throw blanket is the most affordable option at $20, but you can also snag this blanket in an XL throw, sized 50 inches by 70 inches for $25. It’s also on sale in twin, full/queen, and king sizes, priced at $30, $40, and $50, respectively, though color availability varies by size.

Fall may be the ideal time to add a new throw to your living space, but a good blanket can also be especially comforting anytime you’re sick or sad. It’s something you can curl up in and not feel like you’re just rotting away in bed.

You could absolutely use this blanket on your bed, particularly if you snag one of the larger sizes. But even the throw would make a great accent for any bed. Drape it across the end of a spare bed for a snuggly accent to welcome guests, or grab your kid’s favorite color and let them use it in their room. You could even snag one to give as a gift! I know the holidays are still months away, but if you’re an early shopper, there’s surely someone on your list who could use a new fuzzy blanket.

The Unexpected Way To Turn Mountain Dew Into the Perfect Summer Mocktail

Thu, 08/20/2026 - 5:04pm

Growing up, Mountain Dew was my favorite soda. I don’t reach for it much these days, but every once in a while, that bright green bottle still calls my name. So when I came across Mountain Dew‘s own recipe for a Dew-jito, I knew I had to try it.

The original recipe is a Mountain Dew mojito made with fresh mint, lime, simple syrup and white rum. For my version, I ditched the rum and made it a mocktail—and it was way better than I expected.

😋😋 SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter 🍳🍔

Even making the Dew-jito was part of the fun. Muddling the mint and lime, filling the glass with ice and adding a lime wedge and mint sprig at the end made the whole thing feel a little more special rather than just pouring myself a soda. Plus, it only took a few minutes.

More importantly, it tasted good. The Dew-jito was cold, fizzy and refreshing, with the Mountain Dew flavor still coming through alongside the fresh mint and lime. It was sweet without needing much else, and exactly what I want to drink when it’s hot out. Safe to say, this won’t be the last Dew-jito I make.

If you’re curious, here’s how to make a Dew-jito, along with some fun recipe variations to keep things interesting.

The ‘Dew-jito’ Secret: Fresh Mint, Lime and Zero Syrup

Courtesy Fred Hernandez

Mountain Dew’s own Dew-jito recipe calls for 6 to 8 mint leaves, 4 lime wedges, ½ ounce of simple syrup, 1 ½ ounces of white rum and 3 to 4 ounces of Mountain Dew. I left out the rum for this mocktail version, and you can skip the simple syrup too; Mountain Dew is sweet enough as it is.

The fresh mint and lime make a big difference here. The lime gives the drink a little tartness, and you get fresh mint in just about every sip.

For one Dew-jito, muddle 6 to 8 mint leaves with 4 lime wedges, add ice and pour in 3 to 4 ounces of Mountain Dew. I finished mine with another lime wedge and a sprig of mint.

The Muddle vs. The Mash: How to Release Mint Oils Properly

Courtesy Fred Hernandez

You don’t need to go wild with the muddler. I gave the mint and lime a few gentle presses and twists, just enough to bruise the leaves and release some juice from the lime. Once I could really smell the mint, I stopped.

Try to keep the mint leaves mostly intact rather than mashing them into the bottom of the glass. Overdo it, and you’ll end up with little pieces of mint floating around your Dew-jito.

How to Scale: Single Glass vs. Summer Pitcher

Elena Popova / Getty Images

One Dew-jito uses only three to four ounces of Mountain Dew, so it’s easy to make more if you’re having people over.

For a small pitcher of four to five drinks, start with about 20 ounces of Mountain Dew, 2 to 3 limes and a good handful of mint.

For a larger party dispenser with 10 to 12 drinks, you’ll need about 48 ounces of Mountain Dew, 5 to 6 limes and a larger bunch of mint.

For a pitcher, you can muddle the mint and lime right in the pitcher, then add the Mountain Dew shortly before serving so it doesn’t lose its carbonation. If you’re making it ahead of time, wait on the ice too so it doesn’t melt and water down the drink.

4 Ways to ‘Dress Up’ Your Soda Mocktail

Courtesy Fred Hernandez

The original is good on its own, but there are plenty of ways to play around with your Dew-jito.

1. Add fresh berries.

Muddle a few strawberries, raspberries or blueberries along with the mint and lime. You’ll get a little extra fruit flavor, plus some color in that bright green drink.

2. Try adding pineapple to the mix.

Pineapple is another natural match for lime and mint. Muddle a few small chunks with the other ingredients, or add a splash of pineapple juice if that’s what you have on hand.

3. Muddle in some cucumber.

Add a few cucumber slices to the mint and lime before muddling. Cucumber is mild enough that it won’t take over the drink, but it’ll add another fresh flavor to the mix.

4. Pick a different Dew.

You don’t have to stick with the original flavor. Baja Blast‘s tropical lime flavor makes it an obvious one to try, especially with the fresh lime already in the glass. Or, go in a completely different direction with the cherry-flavored Code Red.

The ‘Spiked’ Version: Adult Variations

Courtesy Fred Hernandez

Of course, you can always put the rum back in. Mountain Dew’s original Dew-jito recipe calls for 1 ½ ounces of white rum, and I used Rhum Barbancourt White Rum when I tried the cocktail version. I liked it just as much, and the rum made the mint and lime taste even more like the mojito that inspired it.

White rum makes the most sense if you want to stick close to the original, but you could experiment with vodka or tequila too. I’d keep the same 1 ½-ounce pour and see which one you prefer.

Final Thoughts

After making the Dew-jito, I’m curious what else I can make with Mountain Dew. There are plenty of flavors to choose from, so I have a feeling I’ve only scratched the surface.

Disney Channel star Mia Talerico, who played the adorable baby Charlotte “Charlie” Duncan on Good Luck Charlie, has posted a photo of her first day of her senior year of high school, and the internet can’t believe she’s (almost) all grown up.

Good Luck Charlie hit the Disney Channel on April 4, 2010, and it ran for just under four years, ending on Feb. 16, 2014. The story centered on the Duncan family, who had just welcomed a new baby, the titular Charlie. Despite her name being in the show title, though, Charlie wasn’t quite the star. Rather, the show primarily focused on Bridgit Mendler’s Teddy Duncan, the older Duncan sister, who was adjusting to life with a new little sibling by recording videos full of advice for her little sister to watch someday.

Talerico was just about a year old when she began on Good Luck Charlie, and although she obviously aged a few years by the time of the show’s conclusion, audiences clearly still weren’t ready to see her looking so much older. After Talerico shared her first day of school photo on her Instagram account yesterday, the comments were flooded with shocked replies.

One commenter wrote, “You kidding?? I feel old😭 good luck Charlie!🥺,” and another said, “Oh wow. Umm we dinosaurs now? That’s how old I feel I’m ngl😭.” Yet another comment reads, “And just like that she’s off to senior year, good luck Charlie! Make us proud with those college acceptance letters👩🏼‍🎓.” Eric Allan Kramer, who played father of the family Bob Duncan on Good Luck Charlie, also commented on the post, saying, “You make a TV Dad proud.” He has since posted his own tribute to Talerico as well.

Since Good Luck Charlie concluded in 2014, Talerico has had several other roles, including a multi-year run as Paige on the TV show Mani. She also has multiple upcoming projects in the works, including as young Kelly in American Summer, which will release on Sept. 4.

Anthropologie’s Vibrant Stoneware Find Will Turn Your Kitchen Into a Tuscan Retreat

There is something about having a well-stocked kitchen that makes cooking at home feel more enjoyable. Even the smallest upgrades can make a difference, whether it is a beautiful cutting board, a set of matching bowls, or a decorative container for something you reach for every single day.

Olive oil is one of those pantry staples that is always out during cooking. It gets used for sautéing vegetables, roasting potatoes, drizzling over salads, dipping bread and finishing pasta. Instead of leaving a bulky store bottle on the counter, transferring it into a stylish cruet can make your kitchen feel more organized and a little more elevated.

Cucina Stoneware Olive Oil Cruet, $33.60 at Anthropologie

Anthropologie

Shop It!

Anthropologie’s Cucina Stoneware Olive Oil Cruet is a pretty option for doing exactly that. Priced at $33.60, the cruet is made from glazed earthenware and is designed to add a vibrant pop of color to your kitchen counter while still being useful for everyday meals. It is exclusive to Anthropologie and has 45 customer reviews.

The cruet holds 20.28 ounces of olive oil and stands 6.7 inches tall, making it substantial enough for frequent use without taking up too much counter space. It is a good size for keeping your everyday cooking oil within reach next to the stove, on a kitchen shelf, or on a bar cart for easy entertaining.

What makes this piece stand out is its hand-finished, stoneware look. The glossy glaze gives it an artisanal feel that works especially well in warm, colorful kitchens. It can add personality to a neutral space or blend into a more collected, Mediterranean-inspired countertop setup featuring wooden cutting boards, ceramic bowls and fresh herbs.

You can use it for more than olive oil, too. Fill it with avocado oil for high-heat cooking, keep a specialty infused oil on hand for dipping bread, or use it for vinegar if you enjoy making homemade salad dressings. Just be sure to label the container if you keep more than one out at a time.

The cruet should be hand-washed rather than placed in the dishwasher. Because it is glazed earthenware, slight variations in the finish may occur, giving each piece a unique look.

At $33.60, it is certainly more of a decor-forward kitchen purchase than a basic oil dispenser. But it is the kind of item you will see and use every day. If you love small home details that make routine tasks feel more intentional, this Anthropologie cruet is a beautiful way to add color and charm to your countertop.

1976 Soft Rock Hit, Written by a 27-Year-Old Jackson Browne, Still Holds Up 50 Years Later

Thu, 08/20/2026 - 4:49pm

Throughout his six-decade career in the music industry, singer-songwriter Jackson Browne has had a hand in penning several powerful hits, ranging from The Eagles‘ “Take It Easy” to Nico‘s “These Days.” One of his most popular tunes released under his name is his 1976 song, “The Pretender,” off the album that shares the same name.

The song, just under six minutes long, took home the number 58 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1977, seven months after the Pretender album’s release.

According to American Songwriter, Browne gave some insight into what exactly he was trying to convey in his “The Pretender” lyrics during a 2015 MOJO interview. Browne, now 77, explained that the song’s narrator is questioning the importance and validity of his lifestyle.

“It’s grappling with the question of whether the life you’re living is the life you thought you were headed for. ‘The Pretender’ is an open question: do you find life’s best qualities by having children and a job, or in tearing those things down?” said Browne in the 2015 interview.

Browne also shared that he implemented images from his childhood neighborhood in Southern California throughout “The Pretender” during a 2012 interview with The Wrap.

“‘The children waiting for the ice cream vendor,’ you know, that was me and my brother sitting on the curb with our nickels waiting for the truck to get close enough to like buy a popsicle, that stuff, you know, the pictures that you remember,” said Browne to The Wrap.

He also noted that the images he used in “The Pretender” are universal.

“But if somebody else hears that song, they may not see that same ice cream truck that I see, they can see their own ice cream truck,” said Browne in the 2012 interview.

American Songwriter also reported that Browne has clarified that The Pretender album had little to do with his first wife, Phyllis Major‘s March 1976 death-by-suicide.

“Many people think that if a record comes out after an event, that the event is somehow represented in the songs. But those songs were written before she died, with the exception of ‘Sleep’s Dark And Silent Gate’. That was written after,” said Browne, who shared one child, the late Ethan Browne, with Major, in the 2015 MOJO interview.

The English beauty, 82, who is known for her marriages to Beatles legend George Harrison and Eric Clapton, met Harrison in 1964 on the set of the Beatles movie A Hard Day’s Night. However, the couple divorced in 1977, and she went on to marry Clapton in 1979. While she has left the two music maestros in the past, Boyd is thriving in her eighties. Still a blonde beauty, Boyd shared a new photo of herself rolling on the grass with her sweet dog, Dexter.

46,000 Power Stations Recalled Due to Fire and Burn Hazards

Thu, 08/20/2026 - 4:08pm

A popular power station sold nationwide at retailers such as Costco.com has just been recalled.

Goal Zero, dubbed “the original portable power supply company,” announced on Thursday, August 20 that it has recalled tens of thousands of YETI 3000X Power Stations “due to serious risk of injury from fire and burn hazards,” according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recalled power station’s circuit board can reportedly overheat, posing a risk of serious injury from the hazards.

More specifically, the recall involves Goal Zero’s YETI 3000X power stations — about 46,200 in total. The silver and black portable power stations measure about 24.4 inches high, 18.5 inches wide and 22.3 inches deep. And it weigh roughly 92 pounds.

Per the CPSC, the units have yellow handles and a digital display at the front, with electrical ports. They sit on a rolling cart with two built-in wheels and a telescoping handle. The Goal Zero logo is printed on the front bar of the cart and on a nameplate located on the underside of the station’s lid along with “YETI 3000X”.

Consumers should stop using the power stations immediately and install the free repair in the form of a firmware update available through the Goal Zero application. Or, they should contact Goal Zero for firmware installation at no cost.

Per the Thursday recall announcement, the Utah-based Goal Zero has received four reports of the power stations catching fire, overheating and smoking. But no injuries have been reported.

Another Nationwide Recall This Week

On a separate note, nearly the same quantity of product was recalled for an entirely different brand this past week. The FDA recently issued a nationwide recall for more than 39,000 bottles of CLEAR EYES Maximum Itchy Eye Relief eye drops due to a “lack of assurance of sterility” and “potential contamination.”

The latest recall was actually issued on July 29, but the agency updated the classification on August 14 to a Class II recall.

1979 Hit, Written in 15 Minutes About a 16-Year-Old Girl Who 'Induced Madness,' Began a 6-Week Reign at No. 1 47 Years Ago Today For The Knack

Thu, 08/20/2026 - 3:45pm

In 1979, The Knack exploded onto the music scene with a song that took just 15 minutes to write, was inspired by a real woman and became the biggest hit of the year.

“My Sharona” began its six-week reign at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 47 years ago today.

Written by Knack frontman Doug Fieger and guitarist Berton Averre, the infectious power pop hit was the band’s debut single and would become its only No. 1. But behind the instantly recognizable riff and stuttering refrain was a real-life infatuation so intense that Fieger later said the girl who inspired it “induced madness.”

The Real Woman Behind ‘My Sharona’

Fieger was 25 when he met Sharona Alperin in Los Angeles. Alperin told NPR in 2010 that she was introduced to Fieger by his then-girlfriend, something he confirmed to The Independent.

“He had had the same girlfriend, a hairdresser named Lucy, for several years when she introduced him to Sharona Alperin, a 16-year-old shop assistant in a clothing store,” wrote the newspaper.

According to Alperin, Fieger quickly became convinced that they belonged together, telling her within a month or two that he was in love with her and believed she was his soulmate. Alperin, however, was in love with her own boyfriend and said it took about a year before she left that relationship.

Fieger later described his reaction to meeting Alperin in similarly dramatic terms.

“It was like getting hit in the head with a baseball bat,” he said in the liner notes of the album. The encounter sparked an intense period of songwriting, and Alperin became the inspiration for numerous songs.

“She was my muse,” Fieger told The Independent years later, adding, “She induced madness.” He recalled that most of the songs on The Knack’s first two albums were inspired by Alperin.

But Alperin heard “My Sharona” before she and Fieger were even a couple.

In her NPR interview, she recalled stopping by a Knack rehearsal during a lunch break from her job at a clothing store. After some discussion among the band members about whether they should play the song for her, they did.

Alperin left the rehearsal and drove back to work with one thought running through her mind: “Did I just hear a song with my name in it?”

Fieger and Alperin eventually became a couple and were engaged, although they never married. They remained close long after their romantic relationship ended, and Alperin frequently visited Fieger during the final months of his life before his death from cancer in 2010.

She also became part of the visual identity of “My Sharona,” posing for the single’s picture sleeve while holding a copy of The Knack’s debut album Get the Knack.

Alperin told NPR that the song made her something of a celebrity in her own right. Some fans would even dress like her at Knack concerts, telling her they were dressed as “Sharonas.”

“Not everybody knew that Sharona was a person,” she recalled.

‘My Sharona’ Was Written in Just 15 Minutes

For a song that would follow The Knack for decades, “My Sharona” came together remarkably quickly.

Fieger claimed the song took only 15 minutes to write. He and Averre worked out its structure and melody together, although Averre was initially reluctant to use Alperin’s real name. Fieger insisted because he wanted the song to be a direct expression of his feelings for her.

Drummer Bruce Gary supplied another essential ingredient: the song’s distinctive stuttering beat. Gary later explained that he developed the surf-stomp-inspired rhythm using tom-tom and snare and incorporated a flam, in which two drum strokes are staggered to produce a fuller sound.

The finished recording quickly took off.

According to music historian Fred Bronson in “The Billboard Book of Number One Hits,” “My Sharona” entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 86 on June 23, 1979. By the time it reached No. 1, it had already been certified gold.

In August 20, 1979, “My Sharona” reached the top of the chart and stayed there for six consecutive weeks. It ultimately finished as Billboard’s No. 1 song of 1979.

The Knack Became an Overnight Sensation

The band’s debut album was nearly as unstoppable as its first single.

Get the Knack spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart and became one of the year’s biggest-selling albums.

Its success was even more remarkable considering how quickly and cheaply the record was made. Bronson writes that Get the Knack was recorded virtually live with few overdubs, taking just 11 days and costing only $18,000. It was certified gold in 13 days and platinum less than a month later.

“My Sharona,” meanwhile, became Capitol Records’ fastest debut single to earn gold certification since The Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand” in 1964. The song eventually sold more than 10 million copies.

The Beatles comparison was particularly fitting.

Fieger had been profoundly influenced by the Fab Four, and The Knack’s image and the packaging for Get the Knack deliberately evoked the British Invasion. But the bigger the band became, the more intense the backlash grew, eventually inspiring a “Knuke the Knack” campaign.

The Knack followed “My Sharona” with “Good Girls Don’t,” which peaked at No. 11 on the Hot 100, but the band would never again approach the enormous success of its debut single. After two more albums and mounting internal tensions, The Knack’s original run ended in 1982.

“My Sharona,” however, proved remarkably difficult to kill.

“Weird Al” Yankovic turned it into “My Bologna,” the parody that helped launch his career. Run-D.M.C. incorporated its famous riff into “It’s Tricky,” while “My Sharona” itself returned to the Hot 100 in 1994 after appearing in Reality Bites, reaching No. 91 during its second chart run.

The song even played an unlikely role in the creation of one of Michael Jackson’s biggest hits. While Jackson was making Thriller, producer Quincy Jones wanted him to come up with a rock song in the vein of “My Sharona.” Jackson’s answer was “Beat It.”

Decades after “My Sharona” first conquered the charts, Fieger had an apt description for the song that had come to define his career.

“We call it the ‘golden albatross,'” he told the BBC in 2007, “but it’s been good to us and afforded me a wonderful lifestyle.”

Forty-seven years after “My Sharona” began its six-week reign at No. 1, the song Fieger said took just 15 minutes to write remains The Knack’s defining hit, while the real Sharona remains forever entwined with one of 1979’s biggest pop culture phenomena.
