The Damned built its name on fast, loud punk rock, but one of the band’s most unusual songs went in a very different direction. 

Released in 1980, “Curtain Call” runs for 17 minutes and 13 seconds and stands apart from much of the music that made the London band famous.

The song appeared on The Black Album, The Damned’s fourth studio album, released on Nov. 3, 1980. “Curtain Call” was so long that it filled the entire third side of the original double album.

More than four decades later, the song remains a divisive part of The Damned’s catalog. Some listeners see it as one of punk rock’s most ambitious long-form tracks, while others view it as a major step away from the sound that first defined the band. Its mix of psychedelic rock, gothic moods, unusual effects, and long instrumental passages made it very different from the short, hard-driving punk songs associated with The Damned’s early years.

The track also showed where the band’s music was heading. While The Damned came from London’s first wave of punk, The Black Album expanded its sound and opened the door to the darker and more theatrical style the group would explore further in the years that followed.

The Damned formed in London in 1976 and became one of the most important early British punk bands. The group released “New Rose,” widely recognized as the first single released by a U.K. punk band, before putting out the 1977 album Damned Damned Damned.

By 1980, however, the band was already exploring new musical ideas. The Black Album included punk, psychedelic rock, theatrical moments and darker sounds. “Curtain Call” became the clearest example of that change.

Goldmine described the song as a mix of gothic and psychedelic rock, with effects and changing sections that make it feel closer to a long musical journey than a traditional punk song. Its structure also gave lead singer Dave Vanian room to use the dark vocal style that would later become closely connected to The Damned’s gothic image.

The difference between “Curtain Call” and the band’s earlier work is part of what made the song controversial. The Damned had already faced criticism from some people in the punk scene, who saw the group as more theatrical and less political than other major acts of the era.

That debate followed the band as its sound changed.

For some, “Curtain Call” proved that The Damned could move beyond the limits of traditional punk. For others, it raised the question of whether the band was leaving the genre behind.

The song has been described as either one of punk rock’s greatest achievements or The Damned’s final major flirtation with the genre that helped launch its career.

The unusual sound of “Curtain Call” did not come only from punk or horror-inspired music. According to Dave Vanian, classical music and film soundtracks also played an important role in shaping the song.

According to Far Out Magazine, Vanian explained to Mojo, “I was more into classical music and film soundtracks, where the music moves and is about emotions. ‘Curtain Call’ took ages.”

That influence helped explain why the song developed differently from a standard three-minute rock track.

Vanian also shared how an old instrument helped create the beginning of the piece. He said, “I had bought a harmonium for £49 when I lived in a basement flat in Islington. It used to creak and groan, and I’d put a microphone in the back of it and tape it. That became the first part, then Captain [Sensible] added his guitar lines.”

The song continued to grow as The Damned worked on it.

Vanian recalled, “Every time we did any demos, we’d write another bit. I saw it unfolding like a movie. Before we knew it, it was 18 minutes long.”

The Damned would continue moving toward gothic rock during the 1980s, releasing albums such as Phantasmagoria and Anything. In an interview with The Guardian, members of the band acknowledged that they would always be known as “punk band the Damned,” despite the group’s long move beyond a strictly punk sound.

An iconic 1983 track has defied the decades to conquer a modern music milestone, proving that absolute studio perfection never goes out of style.

The legendary pop masterpiece, Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” just secured the No. 1 spot on the Gabb Music Songs chart for a second consecutive month, leading the pack for July 2026. Jackson’s incredible summer resurgence easily outlasted dozens of modern pop rivals, capturing a whole new generation of streaming listeners forty-three years after its original release.

But the history-making single almost sounded completely different. During the 1982 studio sessions for Jackson’s landmark Thriller album, intense creative tension brewed between the young singer and legendary producer Quincy Jones. Jones famously disliked the song’s incredibly long, 29-second structural intro, arguing that it was simply not punchy enough for mainstream radio. The King of Pop fiercely disagreed, stating that the track’s iconic, heavy bassline immediately made him want to dance.

To find a creative compromise, renowned audio engineer Bruce Swedien was tasked with perfecting the track’s sonic landscape. Swedien famously remixed “Billie Jean” a staggering 91 times before the creative team was finally satisfied with the balance. Ultimately, Jackson chose Mix No. 2 as the final product, meaning the grueling, week-long production loop ironically brought them right back to where they started.

When the single finally dropped in early 1983, it instantly shattered global industry standards. It became an immediate international phenomenon, fueled heavily by a groundbreaking music video that famously broke the color barrier on network MTV.

Decades later, the song remains an untouchable snapshot of a historic musical partnership at its peak. Its continued dominance proves that the painstaking dedication inside the studio was well worth the effort. Forty-three years after the track first got the world dancing, this ’80s studio triumph is still a major chart-topping heavyweight, demonstrating that true pop royalty simply cannot be dethroned by time.

Miss Grand USA has officially announced the termination of Mekayla Li’s reign, ending her time as the national titleholder just days after her victory.

The pageant organization shared the news in an official statement posted on Instagram on Wednesday. 

Miss Grand USA said Li was released from the title and all duties connected to it, but the organization did not publicly explain which specific issue led to the decision.

“Miss Grand USA announces the termination of Mekayla Li’s reign and her release from the Miss Grand USA Title and all associated duties,” the organization wrote.

“This decision was made in accordance with contractual policies outlined by the Miss Grand USA organization.”

The statement also called for respect as the pageant moves through the change.

“We ask that all dialogue surrounding this transition remain respectful. Miss Grand USA stands firmly against bullying, harassment, defamation, degrading remarks and personal attacks of any kind.”

Li had been crowned Miss Grand USA only about a week earlier. The Massachusetts representative won the national competition in Las Vegas on Aug. 10, while other accounts listed her crowning date as Aug. 12.

Miss Grand USA did not name Li’s successor in its statement. The first runner-up is Miss Grand Indiana, Victoria Oluwakotanmi, but the organization has not officially announced who will take over the title.

The sudden termination came shortly after Li celebrated her win on social media.

One day before Miss Grand USA announced the end of her reign, Li reflected on her experience and described the victory as “surreal” and an “unforgettable night.”

“A week into this reign, and I’m still taking it all in. But now, the dreaming becomes doing,” she wrote. “The crown is on, the lights are waiting, and I’m ready to make this year count and see just how grand this journey can be.”

After winning the national title, Li also spoke about her plans to represent the United States at Miss Grand International in India. In an interview with Edgar Entertainment, she said, “I feel so excited but I’m also already thinking about the journey ahead,” adding that she hoped to take the international stage in “full force.”

Reports said Li was scheduled to compete at Miss Grand International on Oct. 10 in India.

However, the title termination changed those plans. As of the latest reports, Miss Grand USA has not publicly confirmed who will represent the country at the international competition.

Li, her attorney and Miss Grand USA had not publicly provided further details about the reason for the decision at the time of the reports.

Although Miss Grand USA did not state why Li’s reign was terminated, reports have pointed to questions involving her ongoing legal case and her previous marriage.

According to court records reviewed by People, Li is facing two felony hit-and-run charges connected to an alleged incident in November 2024. One charge involves causing non-serious injury, while the other involves causing permanent serious injury.

Li was arrested on Nov. 24, 2024, according to the reports. She pleaded not guilty to both charges at her arraignment on March 19.

Li is also named as a defendant, along with Michael Scobey, in a civil complaint seeking damages related to allegations of negligence, hit-and-run, intoxicated driving and reckless driving.

The complaint alleges that a vehicle carrying Li and Scobey swerved into oncoming traffic on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles and collided with another vehicle. Plaintiff Anna Mercedes Aoun claimed that she suffered “catastrophic injuries,” including “some permanent disability” and a loss of “future income.”

The complaint also alleges that neither defendant called emergency services after the crash and that they “fled the scene” in a rideshare vehicle.

These allegations remain part of ongoing legal proceedings, and Li has pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges.

Another issue raised in reports involves Li’s marital history. Divorce records reportedly show that she was married from Aug. 9, 2018, until Dec. 31, 2019.

Miss Grand International’s eligibility criteria state that contestants “cannot be or have been married or pregnant.” Reports also noted that the pageant requires contestants to have a clean personal record with no criminal history or scandalous background.

However, Miss Grand USA itself did not publicly connect Li’s legal case or previous marriage to its decision to terminate her reign.

Before winning the national crown, Li was known as Miss Grand Massachusetts 2026 and Miss Asia USA 2025. According to her website, she was born to Chinese and South African parents and was raised “across three continents.”

For now, Miss Grand USA has confirmed only one thing: Mekayla Li’s reign has officially ended.

At just 14 years old, James Burton was already playing professionally, launching a career that would eventually make him one of the most influential guitarists in country and rock music.

Born Aug. 21, 1939, in Dubberly, Louisiana, Burton turns 87 this year. Over more than seven decades, he has played alongside some of the biggest names in music, from Ricky Nelson and Merle Haggard to Emmylou Harris and Elvis Presley.

The guitarist’s distinctive Telecaster sound earned him a reputation as one of the most important session and touring musicians of his generation. His career has also earned him inductions into both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Country Music Hall of Fame.

James Burton Was Just 14 When He Helped Create ‘Susie Q’

Burton’s career began remarkably early.

His parents bought him a Fender Telecaster when he was 13, and he quickly taught himself to play by listening to records and the radio. Within a year, he was performing professionally and had joined the staff band of the Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport.

At 14, Burton began working with fellow Louisiana musician Dale Hawkins. Burton had written an instrumental guitar piece that Hawkins later set to lyrics, creating what became “Susie Q.”

The song became a national hit in 1957, giving Burton his first major recording credit and showcasing the distinctive guitar style he had developed as a teenager.

Burton’s early style combined country, blues and rockabilly influences. He developed what became known as “chicken pickin’,” a sharp, percussive approach that would become a defining part of the country guitar sound. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame credits him with inventing the style.

James Burton Became Ricky Nelson’s Guitarist

Burton’s next major break came through Nelson.

While Burton was working in Los Angeles, Nelson heard him playing and recruited the teenage guitarist for his band. Burton joined Nelson in 1958 and remained with him for several years, playing on recordings including “Hello Mary Lou,” “Travelin’ Man” and “Believe What You Say.”

Burton’s playing quickly attracted attention from other musicians. According to the Country Music Hall of Fame, Keith Richards once said that when he went to the record store, he didn’t buy Nelson records, he bought Burton’s records.

Burton continued developing his reputation as a studio musician, eventually becoming part of Los Angeles’ famed Wrecking Crew and working on recordings with artists including the Beach Boys, Sonny & Cher and the Mamas & the Papas.

Elvis Presley Called James Burton ‘The Greatest Guitar Player’

Perhaps Burton’s most famous musical partnership came with Presley.

Presley had noticed Burton’s playing years earlier and originally asked him to participate in his 1968 comeback television special. Burton couldn’t take the job because he was recording with Frank Sinatra, but Presley came back with another offer the following year.

In 1969, Presley asked Burton to put together and lead a new band for his return to live performances in Las Vegas.

Burton agreed and became the leader of Presley’s TCB Band. He would remain with Presley until the singer’s death in 1977.

Burton’s signature pink paisley Telecaster became part of the band’s visual identity, while his guitar work became an important component of Presley’s later live sound.

And Presley made no secret of how highly he regarded his guitarist.

When introducing Burton to an audience, the King called him “the greatest guitar player I have ever heard.”

James Burton Played on Hits by Merle Haggard and Emmylou Harris

Burton’s résumé extended far beyond rock and roll.

He became an important figure in the Bakersfield country sound, recording with Buck Owens and Haggard. His credits with Haggard include “Swinging Doors,” “Branded Man,” “Sing Me Back Home,” “Mama Tried” and “Workin’ Man Blues.”

He also became a key member of Harris’ Hot Band after Gram Parsons‘ death, having previously played on Parsons’ albums GP and Grievous Angel.

Over the years, Burton worked with an extraordinary list of artists, including John Denver, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, the Everly Brothers, Johnny Cash, Elvis Costello and many others.

His playing crossed genre lines because Burton never seemed interested in simply repeating himself. His approach was built around finding the right sound for whatever artist he was accompanying.

James Burton Was Inducted Into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2024

Burton’s influence has earned him some of music’s highest honors.

He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, with Keith Richards serving as his presenter.

He was also inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame as a member of the Wrecking Crew and received a Grammy Award in 2009 for his performance on Brad Paisley’s “Cluster Pluck.”

Then, in 2024, Burton was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in the recording and/or touring musician category.

Even after decades of performing and recording, Burton has continued giving back through the James Burton Foundation, which supports music education by providing guitars and instruction to schools, hospitals and community organizations.

On August 21, 1987, Dirty Dancing arrived in U.S. theaters. We were introduced to Frances “Baby” Houseman, a sheltered teenager spending the summer with her family at Kellerman’s Mountain House, and Johnny Castle, the resort’s cool, super-sexy dance instructor.

The film takes place in the summer of 1963, when Martin Luther King delivered his celebrated “I Have a Dream” speech, months before President John F. Kennedy would be assassinated. A smitten Baby, (Jennifer Grey) is drawn into Johnny’s (Patrick Swayze’s) world while she learns to challenge the expectations placed on her, and life as she knows it will never be the same. Nearly four decades later, Dirty Dancing remains one of the most beloved films of its era. But when it was being made, few people realized what it would become.

In her memoir, Out of the Corner, Grey wrote that after her agent saw an early version of the movie, the agent was convinced it would fall into obscurity. As she told Grey, “Nobody is ever going to see this movie.” But Grey wasn’t alone in being surprised by the movie’s eventual success. Screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein recalled that the filmmakers received little encouragement while making it, especially since the movie dealt with subjects like class disparity and illegal abortion while also being woven into a dance film. The studio executives told Bergstein that the project was completely unmarketable.

They were wrong. Dirty Dancing became a sleeper hit. Made for $6 million, the film became a global blockbuster, grossing over $214 million worldwide. It also offered a beloved soundtrack and became a cultural phenomenon. The song “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” won an Oscar and a Grammy. The movie set a record as the first film to sell one million VHS tapes. And while Dirty Dancing is remembered for its dancing and romance, it also has something more lasting to say about courage, loyalty and standing up for someone else. Even 39 years later.

“There are people willing to stand up for other people no matter what it costs them.”

Johnny Castle says these words to Baby during the film’s final dance, after he returns to the resort despite having been told not to. As he introduces Baby as his dance partner, Johnny explains that she has taught him that there are people willing to stand up for others, no matter what it costs them. The moment comes after Baby has put herself on the line to help Johnny and his dear friend Penny, even though doing so has created conflict with her father and put her own reputation at risk.

Johnny knows what it means to have people judge without first knowing you. He has grown up on the other side of the tracks from Baby. And throughout the movie, he is treated as someone her privileged family should stay away from. Yet Baby sees something different in him. She is willing to stand up for him when it would be much easier and safer to walk away.

That is what makes Johnny’s observation so powerful. He is talking about the rare people who will actually put something at stake for someone else. They may risk their reputation, relationships, comfort or even their own security because they believe another person deserves to be defended.

Deeper Meaning of Johnny Castle’s Quote

Johnny’s words are really about what it means to truly have someone’s back. It is easy to support someone when there is nothing to lose. But it’s much harder when standing beside them could cost you a friendship, your reputation, your comfort or your place in the crowd. That’s what makes Baby’s actions so meaningful. She doesn’t simply fall in love with Johnny. She chooses to stand up for him when it would be easier to walk away.

When Is National Waffle Day 2026?

National Waffle Day falls on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, commemorating the day Cornelius Swartwout of Troy, New York, received a U.S. patent for his waffle iron in 1869.

But Swartwout didn’t actually invent the waffle—or even the first waffle iron. His innovation improved on the cumbersome cast-iron versions already in use, with a design that made it easier and safer to open, close and turn the cast-iron device without getting burned.

The breakfast favorite’s history stretches back much further than that. Versions of cakes cooked between hot metal plates date back centuries, eventually evolving into the familiar grid-patterned waffles we know today.

More than 150 years later, Swartwout’s contribution gives us a pretty good excuse to load those little squares with butter and maple syrup every Aug. 24.

1. Comfort Hotels

If you’re anywhere near Santa Monica, California, this may be the National Waffle Day event to beat.

Comfort Hotels is taking over part of the Santa Monica Pier on Monday, Aug. 24, for its free Ultimate Route 66 Comfort Stop, celebrating both National Waffle Day and the 100th anniversary of Route 66.

The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Guests can grab warm, free waffles from a waffle food truck and customize them with toppings. There’s also a coffee bar, giveaways, commemorative swag, and an appearance from actor and Comfort brand ambassador Keegan-Michael Key.

You don’t need to be staying at a Comfort hotel to participate either. Just show up hungry.

Houston waffle fans can score one completely free waffle on National Waffle Day—as long as they plan ahead.

Lost & Found is serving brunch from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, and anyone who shows up with a valid reservation can get a free waffle.

The restaurant recommends making reservations in advance, so this isn’t one to leave until you’re standing outside with maple syrup on your mind.

Huddle House is making National Waffle Day twice as good with a classic BOGO.

The Golden Waffle is Huddle House’s classic version, but customers can add toppings such as strawberries or chocolate chips for an additional charge.

If Nashville hot chicken isn’t your thing, you can opt for Southern fried chicken instead.

The promotion is limited to Utah locations, so fans elsewhere will unfortunately have to celebrate at full price.

Hampton by Hilton’s famous DIY waffles are part of its complimentary hot breakfast for hotel guests, and this August there’s a new flavor in the waffle iron. The chain has introduced its first guest-created flavor, Peach Cobbler, at nearly 2,500 participating hotels across the United States and Canada.

Created by Kaylee Voight of East Lansing, Michigan, after she won Hampton’s Guest Waffle Boss competition, the limited-time waffle can be topped with peaches, oat crumble, caramel sauce and whipped cream.

Hampton says guests make an estimated 30 million waffles every year, so the brand clearly takes its waffles seriously.

Izkina Restaurant and Lounge in Dallas is celebrating National Waffle Day with a deal for anyone who prefers their waffles with a side of fried chicken.

If you’ve got a waffle iron collecting dust in a cabinet, Aug. 24 is a pretty good excuse to pull it out. Classic butter and maple syrup will always work, but National Waffle Day practically begs for a topping bar or new recipe.

On Aug. 21, 1938, Kenny Rogers was born in Houston, Texas. Though he passed away in 2020, the beloved country superstar would have celebrated his 88th birthday on Aug. 21, 2026.

While Rogers built a career filled with unforgettable songs, no title became more closely associated with him than “The Gambler.” The nickname came from his signature 1978 hit of the same name, which became one of the defining songs of both his career and country music history.

Written by songwriter Don Schlitz, “The Gambler” tells the story of a chance encounter between a weary traveler and an older card player who shares life advice through a memorable poker metaphor. Rogers’ warm, conversational delivery helped turn the song into an instant classic.

Released as the title track from his album The Gambler, the song topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 1978 and won Best Male Country Vocal Performance at the 1980 Grammy Awards. It also inspired a series of successful television movies starring Rogers as the character Brady Hawkes, further cementing his connection to the nickname.

Although “The Gambler” became his calling card, Rogers had already established himself as one of music’s biggest crossover stars. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, he scored hit after hit with songs including “Lucille,” “Coward of the County,” “Lady,” “She Believes in Me,” and “Islands in the Stream,” his chart-topping duet with Dolly Parton.

Over the course of his remarkable career, Rogers sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013 and received countless honors recognizing his impact on country and pop music alike.

As a food writer, fall is one of my favorite times of year to see what chain restaurants and coffee shops come up with for the season. Of course, pumpkin spice gets most of the love, but there’s also caramel apple, warm spices and even Thanksgiving-inspired dishes to look forward to this time of year.

It may be summer temperatures outside with humidity still in the air, but at Peet’s Coffee, it’s finally fall. Peet’s is already getting in on all of the autumn fun with its new fall menu, which launched Aug. 19. Along with plenty of pumpkin, the lineup includes apple drinks, protein smoothies and a few new seasonal bites.

I stopped by Peet’s to try six items from the chain’s new fall menu. While there were a few hits, my favorite menu item actually ended up being something I probably wouldn’t have ordered on my own.

There’s a little bit of everything on Peet’s menu this year, which made this a fun one to taste test. Some items felt like classic fall, while others were a nice change from the usual pumpkin spice overload. Here’s how the six items I tried stacked up.

Home Harvest Pretzwich

The Home Harvest Pretzwich is basically Thanksgiving on a pretzel bun, with cranberry-jalapeño chicken sausage, melted fontina and a savory Thanksgiving spread. The bun was soft with a slight sweetness, while the sausage had a hearty chew and just enough jalapeño to give it a little kick. I only wish the flavors popped a bit more—it tasted slightly muted and could’ve used a pinch of salt. Still, I happily finished it.

Caramel Apple Protein Smoothie

Peet’s Caramel Apple Protein Smoothie packs 19 grams of protein into a blend of Granny Smith apple purée, whole milk and caramel. It was creamy and perfectly sweet, with a thin layer of caramel at the bottom of my cup. I liked getting a little more caramel in those last few sips, although you may want to give yours a stir if you want more of it throughout.

Mini Bacon Biscuit Bite

Never underestimate a good biscuit. Peet’s Mini Bacon Biscuit Bite pairs a warm biscuit with bacon and harvest spread, but the biscuit itself was the star for me. It was soft and crumbly and honestly up there with the biscuits I’ve had at KFC and Popeyes. The bacon and savory spread rounded it out, and the mini size made it just enough for a quick bite with my coffee.

Iced Pumpkin Latte With Vanilla Dream Top

You can’t have a fall coffee menu without pumpkin. I ordered Peet’s Pumpkin Latte iced with Vanilla Dream Top, and what I liked most was that it still tasted like coffee. The pumpkin added just enough sweetness, while the creamy topping made it a little more indulgent without covering up the espresso. If I’m ordering a seasonal coffee drink, I still want to taste the coffee, and Peet’s nailed it. Sorry, Starbucks.

Pumpkin Bread

Even the humble Pumpkin Bread impressed me. I’d recently tried Panera’s version, and Peet’s came out ahead for me, with a soft texture and noticeable pumpkin flavor. My only complaint was the cream cheese icing, which started to slide off the top a bit as I ate it. Still, it’s a solid slice of pumpkin bread.

Sparkling Green Apple Energy

The biggest surprise (and my favorite of the bunch) was the Sparkling Green Apple Energy, made with Granny Smith apple purée, club soda and about 80 milligrams of plant-derived caffeine, plus L-theanine and 100 percent of the daily recommended vitamin B12.

It reminded me of an Italian soda, with a crisp apple flavor, just the right amount of sweetness and plenty of carbonation. Even about 30 minutes after I ordered it, it was still nice and fizzy. With all the pumpkin on the menu, I wasn’t expecting this simple apple drink to be the one I’d want again, but here we are.

Final Thoughts on Peet’s Fall Menu

Peet’s could have rolled out a few pumpkin drinks and called it fall, but I’m glad it didn’t. The Sparkling Green Apple Energy was easily my biggest surprise and the first thing I’d order again, with the Iced Pumpkin Latte not far behind.

Overall, Peet’s has done fall right. Six items later, I was full, fully caffeinated and already looking forward to my next Peet’s run.

Find theme words to fill the board.

• Theme words stay highlighted in blue when found.
• Drag or tap letters to create words. If tapping, double-tap the last letter to submit.
• Theme words fill the board entirely. No theme words overlap.

Find the “spangram.”

• The spangram describes the puzzle’s theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. It may be two words.
• The spangram highlights in yellow when found.
• An example spangram with corresponding theme words: PEAR, FRUIT, BANANA, APPLE, etc.

Need a hint?

• Find non-theme words to get hints.
• For every three non-theme words you find, you earn a hint.
• Hints show the letters of a theme word. If there is already an active hint on the board, a hint will show that word’s letter order.

Despite not winning the crown, Miss Universe contestant Eneisy Rodríguez has won the hearts of pageant lovers everywhere.

The 33-year-old teacher, dancer, and actress represented Hialeah at the Miss Universe Cuba 2026 competition, held on August 20, 2026. Rodríguez made it to the Top 18, beating out more than 100 applicants since the process began in April.

Sadly, because she does not look like your “standard” beauty queen, Rodríguez was subjected to cruel attacks on social media over her weight and age. However, she took the high road and released a statement that should earn her the title of Miss Congeniality.

“Over the last several days, I have received a level of bullying that I never expected to experience. The negative comments started at the beginning of this journey, but they have become much louder recently. I wanted to address it, not because I want to give the negativity more attention, but because I made a promise to myself to always stay true to who I am,” she wrote.

“Reading comments saying that I do not belong here, seeing people criticize my appearance, and experiencing body shaming has been painful… Behind every screen is a real person with real feelings, and we never truly know what someone else is carrying.”

She went on to add that, as an educator, she teaches her students kindness, empathy, and that words matter. Rodríguez also hopes her journey has inspired others to remember that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.

“Every woman deserves to feel comfortable in her own skin,” she added, “to take up space, and to pursue her dreams without fear of being torn down for simply being herself.”

Following her statement, her comments section was flooded with support, with many of her fellow contestants defending her inclusion in the pageant.

You are beautiful and belong here with us!!! We love you Eneisy!!!” Miss Isla de la Juventud Mia Dopo, who was ultimately crowned Miss Universe Cuba 2026, wrote.

“It is such a source of pride to see women who turn difficult moments into a message of love. Keep shining with the same strength and authenticity,” Miss Pinar del Río Daniela Reyes added.

Rodríguez deserves a crown in our book!

Bob Dylan didn’t score a No. 1 Billboard hit with “Like a Rolling Stone,” but it became one of the most iconic songs from his catalog anyways.

Released in July 1965 as the lead single from his acclaimed studio album Highway 61 Revisited, “Like a Rolling Stone” became a massive folk-rock anthem. At more than six minutes long, the song marked a pivotal moment in Dylan’s transition from traditional folk to an electric rock sound.

The song never reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and instead spent two weeks at No. 2 in September 1965, during which it was blocked from the top spot by the smash-hit Beatles track, “Help!”

Billboard recently included “Like a Rolling Stone” on a list of the 100 Best Billboard Hot 100 No. 2 Hits, published earlier this month. The famous Dylan track was ranked at No. 10, behind other music masterpieces that missed the top spot, like Prince‘s “Purple Rain” and Queen‘s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

But even without reaching the summit of Billboard’s Hot 100, “Like a Rolling Stone” still went down in history as one of the most celebrated tracks ever recorded. It’s ranked at No. 4 on Rolling Stone‘s roundup of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Collider also ranks “Like a Rolling Stone” as the No. 2 Most Perfect Bob Dylan Song, behind only his 1975 hit “Tangled Up in Blue.”
