1990 Ballad That Won an Oscar for 'Best Original Song' Reinvented This Singer’s Career

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 11:23am

Madonna has been a defining force in the music industry for decades, earning her the title "Queen of Pop." She took a creative risk while developing the soundtrack for the 1990 film Dick Tracy, a move that earned an Oscar and critical acclaim for her artistic direction.

Dick Tracy was a crime action film based on the 1930s comic strip created by Chester Gould, and had an impressive ensemble cast to match. Hollywood heavies like Warren Beatty, Al Pacino, Glenne Headly, Charlie Korsmo, Dustin Hoffman, Mandy Patinkin, Catherine O'Hara, and Dick Van Dyke all starred or appeared in the film. Madonna also starred as one of the leading actors as the main character, Breathless Mahoney.

The film focused on the romantic relationships between a detective, Breathless Mahoney, and Tess Trueheart (Headley), as he has conflicts with a local crime boss and takes in a young street urchin. With the film set in the 1930s, when swing music and jazz were on the rise, its soundtrack needed to fit its style.

Madonna soon developed the hit jazz ballad "Sooner or Later" that was released in her soundtrack album I'm Breathless: Music from and Inspired by the Film Dick Tracy and used in the film. The track was specifically created to evoke the theatrical nature and style of the 1930s using double bass, horns, piano, and drums. It was a perfect representation of what singers would perform in a smoky nightclub during the era.

"Sooner or Later" became one of Madonna's biggest successes and led to her first-ever and only Oscar win for Best Original Song. She developed the track alongside American composer Stephen Sondheim, and performed it on stage at the ceremony in a look inspired by Marilyn Monroe.

The Oscar-winning track stood out amongst Madonna's career for a reason, as by 1990 she was known for pop hits like "Material Girl," "Like a Virgin," "Papa Don't Preach," and countless more. "Sooner or Later" took Madonna into a new genre, singing at one of her lowest and deepest levels at the time.

In the book, Madonna: An Intimate Biography, the singer said at the time, "I want people to think of me as a musical comedy actress. That's what this album is about for me. It's a stretch. Not just pop music, but songs that have a different feel to them, a theatrical feel."

The track changed how critics saw the singer, with some commenting that it gave her "the edge in future career moves." Many commented on the track showing off a side to her vocal range fans hadn't seen before and proving "she isn't just the glitter and trash of the dance club scene." Dick Tracy and "Sooner or Later" also cemented Madonna among the A-listers, with her Oscar performance tagged as one of the best that took audiences back to old Hollywood.

2014 Hit Comedy Film, Released After Censorship Issues, Ranked No. 1 Banned Movie of All Time

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 11:22am

It's not smooth sailing for all films; some have to jump through hoops just to get released.

This month, WatchMojo.com ranked the top 20 banned movies, compiling a list of the most offensive films ever created. Beating out both Larry Charles' 2006 film Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan at No.3. and Srdjan Spasojevic's 2010 film A Serbian Film at No. 2, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's 2014 movie The Interview took the top spot.

Released in the United States on December 25, 2014, The Interview didn't have the typical theatrical release experience. Due to the film's controversial nature, excessive threats were made against Sony, causing studio to do a limited release and make the film available on Google Play, YouTube Movies and Xbox Video for rental.

Written by screenwriter Dan Sterling, The Interview is a political satire that follows two tabloid journalists who are invited to interview the dictator of North Korea, Kim Jong-un. In hopes of solidifying themselves as professional journalists, the two make the trek to the country, but not before the CIA intervenes and gives them a mission: assassinate the dictator.

As one could expect, the portrayal of Kim Jong-un didn't sit right with the North Korean government, prompting an onslaught of threats to Sony. One hacker group with connections to North Korea, Guardians of Peace, went as far as to hack into Sony Pictures Entertainment in an attempt to prevent the film's release. Due to the cyberattack and threats of violence, Sony initially canceled the theatrical release before pivoting to a premiere in select theaters across the U.S.

To this day, The Interview remains a provocative subject. The film continues to be banned in both North Korea and Russia, marking it as one of the most controversial films ever made.

Emily Ratajkowski Lacquered Her Entire Bedroom in Shiny Red Paint, and Now She’s Breaking the Internet

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 11:16am

Emily Ratajkowski's home decor photos are probably a little different than yours.

The model, actress, and author, 34, who recently appeared in the Netflix series Too Much opposite Meg Stalter and Lena Dunham, took to Instagram to share photos of her home renovation updates. Showing off the changes to her primary bedroom, which is now lacquered in glossy red paint from the walls to the ceiling, Ratajkowski lay on the white bed linens in a revealing polka-dotted halter dress. With the red paint serving as a stark contrast behind her, it's safe to say the star knows how to capture her followers' attention.

"house is coming along," the star captioned the photo set, which showed her gazing into the camera.

Her Son, Sly, Made His Modeling Debut

Last month, Ratajkowski's adorable 5-year-old son, Sly, made his modeling debut alongside his mom in a video for Chanel. Dressed in white, the little one danced and played on the floor with his mom.

"Never ever too much. Happy Mother’s Day from Sly, @chanelofficial and me #CHANELFineJewelry #CocoCrush #CHANELPartner," Ratajkowski wrote in the caption.

Ratajkowski shares her son with ex Sebastian Bear-McClard.

Last year, Ratajkowski spoke about how life is a bit different as a single mom. However, she wouldn't change anything. When it comes to dropping Sly off at school every day, she can't work her regular fashion magic as much anymore.

"It’s a little bit of a walk to my son’s school now, so I can’t wear heeled shoes," she told Elle. "But, when I was in the city, we lived two blocks from his preschool, and I would often just leave for work from there. At that point, I was hosting my filmed podcast, so I would be in an outfit."

She still loves showing fashion that's unexpected for mothers.

"Oh, I was definitely dressed up compared to them," she explained. "I think that’s actually one of the ways I really enjoy being subversive with motherhood. There’s so much around what a mom should look like."

‘The Boys’ Episode 6 Ending Explained: Homelander Becomes Unstoppable as Another Seven Member Dies

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 11:00am

SPOILER ALERT! The following includes events from Season 5, Episode 6 of The Boys. Don’t read further if you don’t want to be spoiled about all things “supe” and otherwise.

Episode 5, “One-Shots,” shifted gears with a series of character-driven vignettes, with Firecracker (Valorie Curry) betraying her childhood pastor on live TV to stay in Homelander’s orbit, while Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) rehearses a Bee Gees–themed stage production with Adam Bourke (PJ Byrne), much to The Deep’s (Chace Crawford) frustration. After a brief detour with Butcher’s dog Terror, the focus turned to Sister Sage (Susan Heyward), who enlists Ashley Barrett (Colby Minifie) and reveals her chilling endgame: unleash the supe-killing virus and retreat to a bunker in Colorado.

The standout segment belonged to Soldier Boy, as Jensen Ackles reunites with former Supernatural co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins in a chaotic encounter with Marathon Man and Malchemical. When things spiral, Soldier Boy refuses to betray Homelander (Antony Starr) and instead uses a group of celebrity houseguests — including Seth Rogen, Kumail Nanjiani, Will Forte and Christopher Mintz-Plasse — as shields before taking control and getting the information he needs. The episode ends with Firecracker being killed by Homelander, her devotion and adoration not enough to keep her alive. And this week's episode deals with the (literal) explosive aftermath, as it barrels towards its conclusion in just a couple of weeks.

Read on for our spoiler-filled recap of Season 5, Episode 6 of The Boys, including the latest character to die.

Who died on The Boys this week?Black Noir

Long a source of cringey comedy, The Deep proves he can be just as ruthless as anyone when pushed too far — especially when it comes to his aquatic friends. After Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) admits he sabotaged the Bering Sea pipeline, killing millions of fish as revenge for Adam Bourke’s death, The Deep decides he’s heard enough from his podcast “bro.” In a cold, calculated move, he wraps a mic cable around Noir’s neck and finishes him off with his own knife.

The fallout is significant. With Firecracker gone and Sister Sage no longer aligned with the group, The Seven — which hasn’t truly been seven for some time — is effectively reduced to three: The Deep, Homelander and Soldier Boy.

V1 is finally found — and used

Episode 6, “Though the Heavens Fall,” turns into a high-stakes standoff built around one simple truth: Whoever controls V1 controls everything. That puts Bombsight (Mason Dye) squarely in the crosshairs, and while Homelander and Soldier Boy struggle to track him down, The Boys gain ground through an unexpected lead. Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso) tracks down The Legend (Paul Reiser), a former Vought executive now laying low behind a movie theater concession stand, who points them to Golden Geisha (Naoko Mori), Bombsight’s longtime love.

It turns out Bombsight has been holding onto V1 for Goldie, hoping to make her immortal so they can be together forever — a gift she’s long rejected, viewing eternal life as a curse. Armed with that intel, Butcher (Karl Urban), Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) and MM make a bold move to draw out Bombsight, abducting Goldie from Vought Villages, a retirement community for supes, leading to a chaotic and darkly comedic scuffle with its elderly residents. But what follows is less a plan than a powder keg.

In a surprising twist, Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) switches sides and aligns with The Boys, showing up unannounced at their hideout and laying out their entire plan to prove her value — all in an effort to keep V1 out of Homelander’s hands. When Bombsight arrives to rescue Goldie, the situation quickly spirals, especially after Sage pulls Soldier Boy into the mix, igniting a violent standoff. For a moment, it looks like Butcher’s plan might actually hold — until Homelander shows up, having tracked Goldie himself. In a crushing reversal, Soldier Boy hands over the V1, and Homelander uses it without hesitation, flipping the outcome and leaving The Boys’ mission in ruins.

Homelander is finally immortal

Episode 6 ends with a devastating turning point: despite everything Butcher and his team try, Homelander finally gets his hands on V1. It’s a crushing loss for The Boys — and a terrifying upgrade for their enemy. Long wary of the supe-killing virus, Homelander can now operate without fear, removing the one real threat that kept him even slightly in check. For a character already defined by ego and volatility, that kind of freedom is a dangerous escalation.

For Butcher and the crew, it feels like the worst-case scenario realized. The one outcome they spent the entire season trying to prevent has come to pass. How they regroup — and whether there’s still a way to stop Homelander — is now the biggest question heading into the final stretch.

Soldier Boy flexes his muscles — and takes away powers

After a brutal fight with Bombsight, Soldier Boy makes him an offer he can’t ignore: “I can take away your immortality and your powers,” he tells him. “You won’t have to live forever alone. And you and Goldie can spend whatever time you have left like you want. I’d do it for the V1.” Faced with that choice, Bombsight accepts, choosing to be stripped of his abilities rather than live forever without her.

The moment underscores just how dangerous Soldier Boy remains. We’ve seen this power before — most notably when he blasted Kimiko in Season 3, temporarily removing her abilities until she injected herself with Compound V — but its return here is a crucial reminder: Soldier Boy isn’t just a physical threat. He’s one of the few characters capable of fundamentally changing the game by taking a supe’s powers away entirely, whether they come from Compound V or V1.

Presley, 80, participated in a live conversation at the Westgate Las Vegas on May 2, according to E! News. She said her daughter was the glue between herself and her grandchildren, Riley Keough, 36, and 17-year-old twins Harper and Finley Lockwood.

"It’s kind of separated us in a way," Presley said. "You know, we would get together and have meals and have family." She added, "They’ve got their boyfriends and do their thing."

Kenough married Australian stuntman Ben Smith-Petersen in 2015. They welcomed their first daughter, Tupelo in August 2022. The name references Elvis Presley'sbirthplace. They had their second kid in 2025. The father spoke at his mother-in-law's memorial service.

"I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters," he said, according to PEOPLE. "Thank you for giving me strength, my heart, my empathy, my courage, my sense of humor, my manners, my temper, my wildness, my tenacity. The matriarch said the family is busy with their lives, but is still close. She met fans in Las Vegas while there for the speaking engagement.

A Cult Sci-Fi Horror Film Just Got a Surprise Sequel '200 Years' Later

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 10:58am

Nearly three decades after its release, Event Horizon is back in the spotlight in a way few fans expected. Instead of a reboot or streaming revival, the franchise is continuing its story through comics, expanding the mythology of the infamous starship and its descent into cosmic horror.

The new series, Event Horizon: Inferno, is officially set 200 years after the events of the original film. According to IDW Publishing’s announcement, the story follows a future where humanity is still dealing with the consequences of the ship’s disastrous interdimensional experiment and what it unleashed upon return.

Writer Christian Ward, who previously worked on the prequel series, described the project as a continuation that shifts the focus beyond the original crew and into a much larger timeline of consequences.

The comic officially launched in April 2026 and continues the narrative established in the earlier prequel series while pushing deeper into cosmic horror territory.

Related: Ryan Coogler Reveals When The X-Files Starts Filming — and the Location Will Look Familiar

This expansion is notable because it directly builds on the unresolved mystery of the 1997 film. The original movie followed a rescue crew investigating the reappearance of the Event Horizon, a starship that vanished during an experimental faster-than-light test. What they find aboard the ship becomes increasingly unstable, blending psychological terror with visions of a violent, hell-like dimension.

Rather than attempt to retell that story, the new comic shifts forward in time, treating the original incident as the foundation for centuries of escalating fallout. Early previews confirm that the ship itself remains central to the narrative, now functioning less as a setting and more as an ongoing threat tied to interdimensional travel experiments.

Industry coverage has also emphasized how the series continues IDW’s broader strategy of expanding Paramount horror properties through comics rather than film reboots. This includes other adaptations and spin-offs that revisit cult titles through serialized storytelling instead of traditional screen formats.

The original film never fully defined what existed beyond the gravity drive’s activation, leaving interpretation open between psychological breakdown, alternate dimension, or something closer to pure cosmic horror. By moving the story forward 200 years, the new series avoids resolving those questions directly. Instead, it reframes them as the beginning of a long-term scientific and existential crisis.

For a film that originally struggled at the box office but later became a cult favorite, this continuation is a rare second life. Whether it deepens the mystery or explains too much remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Event Horizon is not done yet.

If You Want To Save Money, You Might Want To Start Carrying Cash

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 10:56am

If you're anything like me, you likely don't keep much cash on hand. That's because emerging technology has made it easier than ever for people to use their credit cards and cash apps to pay for everything from gas to food, allowing Americans to walk around with little more than their phone or a small piece of plastic.

However, we may be paying more for that luxury, according to a new report, which notes that credit card payments tend to be higher than cash payments... even when you're buying the exact same thing. As such, it looks like you can stand to save a few bucks when you pay with cash these days, which could prompt many U.S. residents to move away from their charge cards, once again embracing the allure of using cold, hard cash at the checkout. Here's why.

Credit Card 'Swipe' Fees Are on the Rise

According to the Merchants Payments Coalition, you may be spending a bit more when you use your credit card to pay for everyday purchases. That's because the group, which is charged with fighting unfair credit card fees, says that "swipe" fees have risen over the years, going up as much as 80 percent since the pandemic.

In 2025 alone, the group says that credit card companies have charged businesses more than $198 billion in these fees. Unfortunately for consumers, many companies (especially small businesses) have had to pass those expenses onto their customers, charging just a little bit more for the convenience of using a credit card, with some businesses even offering patrons a side-by-side comparison of what they'd pay with their card vs. what they would pay with cash.

“Credit card swipe fees make just about everything Americans buy more expensive,” MPC Executive Committee member and National Association of Convenience Stores General Counsel Doug Kantor said in a press release from the company. “Swipe fees set a new record by taking more of our money every year, and the impact on American families and small businesses is devastating."

Related: The Secret To Boosting Your Social Security Check by 30 Percent

Kantor called on President Trump, lawmakers, and more to enact swipe free reform, saying, "It’s time for Congress to make America affordable again by ending the swipe fee ripoff."

How to Save on Credit Card Fees

While the obvious solution to save on those nuisance fees—which can average between 1.5 and 3.5 percent per transaction, according to PennLive—is to pay cash, you may have some other options if you don't like carrying money around with you.

First, look into alternative payment methods:

  • Venmo says that it doesn't charge a transaction fee for online purchases
  • Zeffy can offer some organizations an option to make a purchase free of fees (this is mostly used by non-profits)
  • Google Pay does not typically charge a fee for purchases, however you bank may charge one when you use it

Related: You Can Live Like a Millionaire on a $50,000 Social Security Budget in These 5 States

While it's unlikely that we will move back towards being a mostly cash society—many people will still need to rely on credit to make purchases so that they can have more time to pay off the balance of the items they buy—budget savvy shoppers may be able to benefit from carrying more money around in their pocket, especially when shopping those small businesses that are more likely to pass those swipe fees on to the customer than larger corporations, or when dealing with service related companies where these fees tend to hit a little harder, like restaurants and salons.

TV Icon Mariska Hargitay Chops Off Her Hair for the Shortest Look in Over a Decade Ahead of Broadway Debut

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 10:44am

Mariska Hargitay just unveiled a striking transformation ahead of her Broadway debut.

The Law & Order icon chopped off her hair, revealing a whole new 'do that fans can't get enough of.

The TV icon's hairstylist, Adir Abergel, revealed the playful hair shake-up on social media, writing, "NEW CUT FOR THE ONE AND ONLY @therealmariskahargitay BROADWAY DEBUT IN @brilliantbway ❤️❤️❤️❤️."

The black-and-white photos reveal a blunt bob cut that reaches the star's chin, styled in loose waves, as she ditches the locks that previously fell below her shoulders.

It's her shortest cut in nearly 13 years, bringing back the bob that was previously her signature style. Before she retired the look in 2009, she rocked a chestnut brown color; however, in later years, she experimented with the length and color more frequently, adding caramel and golden tones.

Hargitay chimed in to comment on the bold new look, writing, "Switching gears."

The official NBCLaw & Order account also added, "It should be criminal to look this good!"

Many other fans noted that they "loved the new look," claiming that she always has the best cuts, and that includes her '90s pixie cut, proving that she can rock just about anything.

The "new hair, new me" vibes come as the 62-year-old is set to make her debut in the Broadway solo play, Every Brilliant Thing, at The Hudson Theatre. She will be taking over the lead role from Daniel Radcliffe.

The limited engagement run will kick off on May 26, 2026, and run through June 28, 2026. Radcliffe will take his final bow a few days prior, on May 24.

“I read Every Brilliant Thing and cried, rejoiced, laughed, cried some more, and loved it so much,” she previously said in a statement to Deadline when the news was announced. “I’m always drawn to themes of healing and renewal, especially when the journey is rendered in all its complexity. It feels like an extraordinary gift to make my Broadway debut, the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, with a play that affirms life so emphatically.”

It's an exciting time for Hargitay, who also reached a major milestone 16 years in the making and inspired by her role as Olivia Benson on the long-running drama, as her Joyful Heart Foundation’s “End the Backlog” campaign has helped to pass rape kit reform laws in all 50 states, including DC and Puerto Rico, per The Skimm.

Couple in Their Early 50s Lost $185K From Their Retirement Savings—Don’t Make the Same Mistake

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 10:43am

One couple is dealing with a nightmare scenario after they say that they lost nearly $200,000 of their retirement savings right before they were hoping to retire.

The duo shared their story in the hopes of finding out what went wrong and whether they could recoup their losses before they were expected to retire. Unfortunately for them, the mistakes they made may be irreversible. However, their story serves as a cautionary tale for other retirees who may be making the same choices when saving for retirement.

A Couple in Their 50s Lost $185,000 of Their Retirement Savings

A married couple reached out to MarketWatch to discuss their unfortunate situation in the hopes of getting help, according to Yahoo! Finance. It appears the pair, who go by the names Jerry and Samantha in the story about them, logged into their retirement account to verify how much money they had squirreled away over the years.

However, instead of finding the $185,000 they expected, they found $10,000. So, what happened? According to them, the financial advisor they had hired 20 years prior hadn't actually been managing their Fidelity account. They told MarketWatch that when they looked into the retirement account, there were no advisors associated with it.

The couple, who were in their 50s at the time, had planned to retire within the next 10 years. Now, it looks like they are going to be forced to scramble so that they can figure out what went wrong, and if they have any recourse to fix it.

How To Keep Your Retirement Savings Safe

While what happened to this couple is still under investigation—the pair were instructed to go through their financial statements and reach out to Fidelity's fraud department to see if the money was stolen or if it was simply lost due to mismanagement—there are a few things you can do to keep your retirement funds safe.

  • Hire a professional advisor to manage your money, and schedule regular check-ins to see if you're on target to meet your goals
  • Review your financial statements when they come in, opting to go directly to your account to pull them if you're afraid of receiving falsified documents
  • Vet your prospective advisors by getting recommendations from friends or family who have used them, paying close attention to those who are already retired and benefiting from their help
  • Do your own research and make sure that you agree with the direction your investor wants to take you in

While it's strange to say, you almost have to hope that the couple was the victims of foul play, if only so that they have some chance to recoup their losses in time to meet their retirement goal. Otherwise, if they lost the money through simple neglect or mismanagement, they may be left without any real recourse.

We Finally Know Why Helena Bonham Carter Checked Out of ‘The White Lotus'

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 10:31am

We finally have some answers regarding why legendary actress Helena Bonham Carter dropped out of The White Lotus.

Carter, 59, an acclaimed actress known for diverse roles ranging from Fight Club to Ocean's 8, abruptly departed the beloved HBO series nine days after production kicked off in France for Season 4. But in a new Variety report that covers the upcoming season, which takes place during the glamour and chaos of the Cannes Film Festival, we learned that it was Carter's creative differences with show creator Mike White that had her packing her bags and saying "au revoir." More specifically, White's demands that Carter provide a more “boisterous performance.”

The character Carter was set to play was a washed-out star in search of her big comeback, sources told Variety.

Upon Carter's exit from the series, a representative from HBO told Page Six that “With filming just underway on season four of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set.”

“HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon,” the spokesperson added.

Laura Dern is Checking Into the White Lotus

Just days after Carter's departure from the show was announced, it was shared that Laura Dern would be checking into The White Lotus for season 4.

Dern, 59, a longtime friend and colleague of White, will play a new character being developed and written for her by White, Deadline reported. The duo has plenty of experience working together. They first teamed up for White’s 2007 film Year of the Dog, but their best-known project is the HBO series Enlightened, which ran from 2011 until 2013. The story “about a woman on the verge of a nervous breakthrough,” it introduced audiences to Amy Jellicoe, a former executive attempting to put her life back together.

The announcement of Dern’s casting on Instagram was received with celebratory praise from the public on social media.

Slice Soda's Brand-New Drink Launch Is the First of Its Kind

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 10:27am

Slice is entering the dirty soda chat—and its new launch is the first of its kind.

The fizzy beverage brand, first released in 1984 and now owned by Suja Life, has been reimagined by the health-conscious company to feature better-for-you ingredients. Now, it's taking on one of the "most talked-about beverage trends" by debuting its very own dirty soda, and unlike most, this one is ready-to-drink straight from the can.

"The first ready-to-drink 'Dirty Soda,'" according to a press release published on Wednesday, May 6, is being introduced in two flavors, Dirty Orange and Dirty Strawberry.

  • Dirty Orange (60 calories) – A bright, bold orange soda with a creamy twist, delivering nostalgic flavor with a refreshingly modern upgrade.
  • Dirty Strawberry(50 calories) – A fresh take on a classic favorite, blending juicy strawberry flavor with smooth, creamy indulgence.

"Inspired by the viral 'dirty soda' trend, Slice Dirty Soda is the first in the category to deliver an authentic dirty soda experience straight from the can. Unlike other ready to drink dirty sodas that rely on artificial cream flavoring, Slice Dirty Soda is crafted with coconut-derived MCT oil to create the rich, creamy texture fans expect, with no mixing required," the notice revealed.

Slice Soda Dirty Soda Flavors

The dirty soda trend rose to greater popularity in 2022 after Olivia Rodrigo's viral TikTok post at Utah-based dirty soda chain Swig, but it is largely owed to the Mormon community in the Midwest state (many of whom do not drink alcoholic beverages or coffee), according to Eater. Similar to Italian sodas, the drinks typically consist of club soda "spiked" with cream, flavored syrups, or other add-ins, with some now using popular soft drinks like Diet Coke or Sprite as a base.

"Dirty soda has quickly become one of the most talked-about beverage trends, but until now, consumers had to make it themselves or settle for versions that didn't quite deliver the full experience," said Nicole Portwood, Chief Marketing Officer at Suja Life, in Slice's press release. "Rather than artificial cream flavors, we've added MCT oil to create the smooth, indulgent mouthfeel that defines a true dirty soda, capturing the creamy indulgence people love while staying true to our mission of offering a better-for-you soda."

Each 12-ounce can of Slice Dirty Soda boasts the brand's signature combination of prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics to support gut health. With only four grams of sugar, real fruit flavor, and no artificial ingredients, the products are also non-GMO Project Verified, gluten-free, vegan, and contain no high fructose corn syrup.

Slice Dirty Soda is available now at select Target stores nationwide with a wider rollout to follow in the coming months, the brand promised.

Gigi Hadid's 'Transparent' Outfit at Met Gala Causes a Stir

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 10:06am

Supermodel Gigi Hadid made headlines at the Met Gala after stepping onto the red carpet in a nearly see-through gown that quickly stirred debate across social media.

The 31-year-old arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday wearing a custom sheer black dress by Miu Miu. The bold look featured a floor-length, mermaid-style silhouette with a flowing train and a glittery, transparent fabric that revealed her undergarments. A gray bralette and high-waisted underwear were clearly visible beneath the delicate mesh material, making the outfit one of the most talked-about of the night.

Photos and clips of Hadid’s entrance spread fast online, where users shared mixed reactions. Some viewers were critical of the revealing design.

“Can we bury transparent dresses in history already, zero aesthetics,” one comment read

Another wrote, “I do not like the revealing details Get in the art girl 🤦.”

A user added, “I didn't expect this from you gigi.”

Another questioned her fashion legacy, saying, “can you believe we had years where gigi was one of the most iconic of the night, right?”

Despite the criticism, others praised Hadid’s overall appearance. A video of her red carpet walk shared by Vogue drew supportive comments.

View this post on Instagram

“Shut up she looks stunning,” one user wrote.

Another noted, “At least her makeup looks nice.”

A different viewer shared a mixed take: “I love her and this looks hot, could've been better if it was not transparent.”

One more added, “She looks stunning but the dress was underwhelming for the Met.”

Hadid’s gown aligned with the 2026 Met Gala theme, “Fashion is Art,” which ties into the museum’s spring exhibition “Costume is Art.” The exhibit explores how clothing connects with fine art across history, placing fashion at the center of artistic expression.

The dress itself featured detailed black embroidery in swirling, almost botanical patterns placed across the bodice and extended into the train. The neckline included metallic accents with dangling chain-like elements, adding movement and edge to the design. The overall look was described as avant-garde, theatrical and body-focused.

Her styling was also carefully planned. According to her hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos, the look was a “fully collaborative process.”

He explained to People, “I'm always inspired by how collaborative Gigi is.” He added, “Since she was wearing Miu Miu, I wanted her hair to feel romantic, effortless, and slightly retro. There's something timeless about a retro style, it's the most modern way to look undone.”

This year marks another appearance in Hadid’s long Met Gala history. Since her debut in 2015, she has attended every year and is known for standout fashion moments. Her 2025 look, a gold-embellished gown, offered a more covered and classic style, making this year’s sheer outfit a noticeable shift.

The event, co-chaired by major names including Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour, once again brought together celebrities for fashion’s biggest night. Hadid’s look, however, became one of the most discussed, showing how quickly a single outfit can divide opinions online.

The Next Viral Trader Joe’s Tote Drops This Month: Here’s What to Know

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 9:59am

You wouldn't think something as innocuous as a bag would get so much attention. However, when it comes to Trader Joe's limited-edition mini tote bags, demand extends beyond the U.S. Fans have been waiting for more news about the rumored tote bags set to arrive this summer, but they're arriving sooner than anyone realized. The Trader Joe’s Summer Fun Mini Insulated Tote Bags will be in stores on May 20!

Coming in at a $3.99, a price point everyone can love, the 10”x6”x6” tote bag has a 1.5-gallon capacity, making it the perfect size for your beach or road trip snacks.

"Many of our customers have also found that they make quite a statement when used to carry your lunch along to school or work, too," Trader Joe's public relations manager, Nakia Rohde, told Parade. "Just be sure to pick up a Tote while you can—supplies are limited."

When Trader Joe's influencers, such as Trader Joe's Obsessed, shared what appeared to be photos of the upcoming bags in striped pastels, many suspected the true design was still under wraps. They were correct.

The cube shape features a zipper top and two reinforced handles, and comes in an array of vibrant colors. While two of the six varieties are striped, four come in bright summery colors: blue, purple, green, and orange.

The fact that the Summer Fun Mini Insulated Totes are getting a nationwide release date will come as a big surprise and relief for many. In the past, the grocery chain has left it up to individual stores to drop the bags. This has created some frustration among its crew members, who have reported being constantly bombarded with questions from hopeful shoppers. Since Trader Joe's is only in the U.S., some stores have even reported busloads of tourists pulling up to buy the tote bags.

"My mom often goes to Trader Joe’s and buys the bags and cookies and other stuff as gifts for when we travel to Japan because we have relatives and friends over there," one customer based in San Francisco wrote on Reddit.

For many locations, the bags sell out almost immediately. Now that a specific release date is known, expect lines to form before the stores open.

CNN Founder Ted Turner Dead at 87

Wed, 05/06/2026 - 9:55am

Ted Turner, the founder of CNN and Turner Broadcasting System, has died. He was 87.

The media mogul, who pioneered the 24-hour news landscape with CNN, died peacefully on Wednesday, surrounded by his family, according to a news release from Turner Enterprises, CNN shared.

“Ted was an intensely involved and committed leader, intrepid, fearless and always willing to back a hunch and trust his own judgement,” Mark Thompson, Chairman and CEO of CNN Worldwide, said in a statement. “He was and always will be the presiding spirit of CNN. Ted is the giant on whose shoulders we stand, and we will all take a moment today to recognize him and his impact on our lives and the world.”

In September 2018, Turner disclosed that he was suffering from Lewy body dementia, a brain disorder that affects memory and other cognitive functions, Variety reported.  He had been hospitalized in early 2025 with a mild case of pneumonia, but recovered at a rehabilitation facility.

CNN noted that Turner is survived by his five children, 14 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

How Did Ted Turner Start His Career?

Turner began his career in the billboard industry, following his father's shocking suicide. He took over the family's business, Turner Outdoor Advertising. However, he wanted to start promoting his own businesses, rather than other people's. He started buying radio stations and soon branched into television.

When he came up with the idea for a 24-hour news network, people thought he was insane.

“I worked until 7 o’clock, and when I got home the news was over,” he once said, referencing the 6:30 evening newscasts on the big networks, CNN shared. “So I missed television news completely. And I figured there were lots of people like me.”

He bet big, and on June 1, 1980, CNN hit the air.

Was Ted Turner Married to Jane Fonda?

Yes! Turner married legendary actress Jane Fonda in 1991. While the couple divorced in 2001, they stayed friends until his death. Fonda always spoke lovingly about Turner, sharing how she believed the mogul had a place in heaven.

“Given his childhood, he should’ve become a dictator. He should’ve become a not nice person. The miracle is that he became what he is. A man who will go to heaven, and there’ll be a lot of animals up there welcoming him, animals that have been brought back from the edge of extinction because of Ted. He’s turned out to be a good guy. And he says he’s not religious. But he, the whole time I was with him, every speech – and he likes to give speeches – he always ends his speech with ‘God bless.’ And he’ll get into heaven. He’s a miracle," Fonda shared in The Heaven Promise.
