The Best and Worst Cities in Kansas for Retirees Fighting To Keep Their American Dream Alive

Kansas is quickly becoming a destination for many retirees wanting to maintain their standard of living in the Sunflower State. Rising costs of living in cities are pushing people further out, but the rural areas are considered medical deserts and severely lacking in the care seniors need. These cities highlight the highs and lows of what the state has to offer.

Overland Park

Overland Park is the second-safest city in the U.S., behind Warwick, Rhode Island, according to a USA Today story. Additionally, a 2026 ranking by Niche places it at a solid A- for retirees. The city and the surrounding Johnson County offer:

  • Healthcare access
  • Low crime
  • Healthy retiree population
  • Stable property values
  • Strong senior services
Prairie Village

Another Johnson County favorite, Prairie Village, is a suburb of Kansas City, allowing access to city amenities while maintaining a small-town feel with just over 22,000 residents. If you want stability, healthcare access, and affordable yet upscale living, this place is worth a look. Other advantages:

  • Quiet, affluent suburb
  • Excellent healthcare proximity
  • Low crime
  • Strong community feel
  • Good access to Kansas City culture without urban intensity
Lawrence

This little gem in Douglas County, Kansas, may appeal to the more artistic and quirky retirees looking for a place with culture and solid healthcare. Its beautiful, walkable main street is filled with shops, boutiques, live music, and a vibrant art scene, according to the city’s official website. What else Lawrence offers:

Independence

This small town, with fewer than 10,000 residents, located in Montgomery County, is one of the worst places in the state for retirees. Not only does it receive a C+ crime rating on Niche, but it also faces the wave of medical restrictions plaguing rural Kansas hospitals. Issues with Independence:

  • Limited healthcare access
  • Higher crime rates
  • Economic stagnation
  • Population decline
  • Fewer amenities and senior services
Coffeyville

Like Independence, Coffeyville suffers from restricted access to medical care. Compounded with other issues like a weak economy and a population decline, this Kansas town is in decline. While it does offer some arts and culture, the majority of what you’ll get in Coffeyville is isolation. The main issues with Coffeyville:

  • Weak local economy
  • Population decline
  • Limited growth
  • Fewer retiree-focused amenities
  • Rural healthcare instability

Iconic ’80s Pop-Rock Duo Announces Exciting 40th Anniversary Tour Update

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 10:46am

Swedish pop-rock duo Roxette just announced an exciting tour update for its 40th anniversary.

On the heels of a "triumphant South American tour and with a European tour coming up this summer," the group revealed it will bring the "40th Anniversary Tour to North America this fall."

The tour will include "14 stops across the U.S. and Canada," including three stops in Texas (Dallas, Austin, Houston) and two in California (Concord and Los Angeles).

There's also a promise to play all of the group's number 1 Billboard hits from the '80s and '90s, including "The Look," "Listen to Your Heart," "It Must Have Been Love" and "Joyride."

Special guests will be Taylor Dayne and Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets.

Tickets go on sale Friday, May 29 at 10:00 AM local time via LiveNation.com.

Sweden's second-best-selling musical act, after ABBA, initially consisted of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle. The former died in 2019 following complications from cancer, a few years after announcing her retirement from touring.

Gessle, who announced the reformation of the band on May 2, 2024, is now joined by Lena Philipsson, who took on lead vocals.

While a handful of comments on the social media post announcing the tour claimed that it "wasn't the same without Marie," other longtime fans quickly jumped, stating, "I’m sure Marie would agree that the most important thing is to keep all this music alive, stop complaining, stop comparing, praise the legacy!"

"I actually think Marie is sitting up there smiling a lot, and at the same time very proud.
Because Per and Roxette have chosen Lena to help sing the famous songs... to carry on Roxette's legacy," another expressed.

Another fan simply screamed, "US DATES!! BEST NEWS OF THE YEAR!!"

Few pop duos have matched the global success of Roxette, which dominated charts worldwide with tracks that went on to define an era.

They were recognized as the highest-certified acts of all time in Germany, but also saw smashing success in the U.S., receiving certifications totaling 3.5 million units from the RIAA.

Their soundtrack contribution to the hit film, Pretty Woman, further cemented their place in pop culture history, bringing their music filled with catchy melodies to a wider audience.

And years later, their catalog still resonates, as their hits continue to dominate airwaves across radio, streaming, and nostalgic playlists.

Seniors Are Rethinking These 3 Popular Retirement States—Here’s Why

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 10:42am

There are plenty of places seniors can go if they want to stretch their retirement funds, but these three popular states aren’t necessarily it. While there is some appeal to the lifestyle, the hidden financial pitfalls of these locations could leave you running out of money midway through your golden years.

Florida - The Hidden Senior Tax State

The state markets itself as a tax haven because it has no income tax, but those savings don’t offset the other hidden fees that are slamming seniors. Florida has the highest home insurance premiums in the country, according to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report

In many cases, insurance premiums, state taxes, and other hidden fees are outpacing the savings seniors would receive from Social Security and other income. Premiums aren’t going down either. Florida’s insurance premiums are growing at twice the rate of the rest of the country, according to The Miami Herald.

California - Cost of Living Sticker Shock

The Golden Coast is a retiree’s dream, but the cost associated with it can blow your budget in no time. The cost of healthcare and homeownership, especially in California’s coastal cities, may be unattainable for most seniors who spend disproportionately on necessities like healthcare, housing, utilities, and insurance.

A fact sheet released by AARP shows that nearly 3.4 million people in California are over 50 and rely on Medicaid. Since healthcare can be such a large expense for seniors, ensuring you have enough to supplement your Medicaid or Medicare may not be possible, given the state's high taxes, cost of living, and insurance premiums.

Louisiana - Quietly Becoming Unaffordable

When you think of Louisiana, lack of affordability doesn’t usually come to mind. The housing market is attractive to buyers, but the hidden costs can quickly spin out of control. While not as high as Florida, the coastal regions of Louisiana have seen a drastic increase in home insurance prices that are quickly outpacing any savings the region offers.

Like California, the high cost of living for owning and maintaining a home clashes with the rising cost of medical care. In a state like Louisiana, where the cost of living is surprisingly high for homeowners, those two expenses can deplete your savings.

Unless you plan to have some form of income, your retirement funds are finite. There are places in the U.S. where seniors are thriving financially and personally. Choosing a less expensive place to enjoy your golden years ensures you’ll be able to enjoy the rest of your days stress-free.

90’s Teen Heartthrob Reveals Realities of Residual Checks

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 10:28am

10 Things I Hate About You actor Andrew Keegan has opened up about the unreliable residual checks he has received from his work in film and TV.

“I think it’s really funny because I’ll get different shows obviously, but I’ll get one cent checks and it costs like 40 cents to send,” the 47-year-old actor explained during a recent episode of The McBride Rewind, adding, “One cent is not worth my time.”

The actor explained that his appearance in the 1999 romcom, which also starred Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles and Joseph Gordon Levitt, is still his biggest money earner.

On TV, he appeared in 7th Heaven from 1997 until 2002 and Party of Five. More recently, he had roles in CSI: New York and 2005's Related. "There are still residuals that come from all those shows, like $10, $20, $50, $80, right?” he said.

Keegan previously told People in 2024 at 90s Con that he is still best recognized for his role as Joey in 10 Things I Hate About You. "There was still something sweet about Joey, that lovable kind of quality that I was recognizing," he told the outlet "We bring ourselves as actors to the roles, there's a little piece of us in the roles. And I think I'm sweet."

Andrew is not the first person to talk about residual checks and how unreliable they are. Jodie Sweetin recently revealed that she “got a one-cent check the other day” for her time in Full House as Stephanie Tanner.

“Sure, in my 20s, there would be money, but not reliable. You don’t know how much it’s going to be or how often they’re going to run the show. So, sometimes you’re like, ‘Oh, cool. That was nice.’ Then sometimes you’re like, ‘All right, well, there’s a nice dinner out,'” she explained on The McBride Rewind podcast.

This Tiny Island Between Maine and Canada Is the Ultimate 2026 ‘Slow Travel’ Escape With Majestic Whale Watching, Historic Homes, and Fresh Seafood

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 10:21am

Most travel advice tells you to pack as much as possible into every vacation. Rush through three countries in a week, visit all the must-see landmarks despite the crushing crowds, and take a million photos. But “slow travel” says the opposite: stop moving. Stay in one place long enough to actually rest. According to Yahoo! Finance, a VRBO survey revealed 91% of travelers now say they want trips centered on rest, reading, and nature rather than rushing from point to point. It's a response to vacation burnout—the exhaustion that comes from treating a getaway like a job.

If you're looking for your next slow travel respite, it may be closer than you think. Campobello Island, a tiny Maine-Canada border community, sits in the Bay of Fundy and delivers everything slow travel promises: history, nature, and actual peace and relaxation. It’s the type of place where you arrive without an itinerary and leave without the usual vacation exhaustion.

The Roosevelt Connection

Roosevelt Campobello International Park occupies the heart of the island. Inside sits former U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt's 34-room summer cottage, jointly maintained by the U.S. and Canadian governments. The park runs daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., late May through mid-October.

You wander through restored rooms where FDR spent his summers before the presidency, exploring gardens and trails across 2,800 acres. Built in 1897, the cottage showcases Victorian-era architecture and design, offering a window into early 20th-century presidential life.

The Whale Watching Corridor

Campobello Island isn’t just a historical site. The Bay of Fundy surrounding Campobello has become one of the world's premier whale-watching destinations, and 2026 has brought record sightings. Humpbacks, finbacks, minkes, and occasionally Atlantic white-sided dolphins are appearing with striking frequency.

Tour operators run excursions directly from the waterfront. You might see whales breaching offshore or feeding in the shallows. Some companies combine a whale watch with a Roosevelt cottage tour. Others offer kayak trips through Passamaquoddy Bay, letting you get up close and personal with marine life.

The Slow Travel Experience

What makes Campobello different: there's no pressure to accomplish anything. You can spend an afternoon reading by the water, take a walk to Mulholland Point Lighthouse or Liberty Point whenever you feel like it, eat fresh seafood, or explore Raccoon Beach alone.

The island naturally enforces this pace. There's nowhere to hurry to, nothing demanding your attention. Stay at locally owned guesthouses or Airbnbs offering long-stay discounts. Enjoy the lack of chain restaurants and indulge in regional cuisine. Support family-run shops. Slow travel here isn't a choice—it's a lifestyle.

Grammy-Winning R&B Trailblazer Turns 51

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 10:16am

R&B icon Lauryn Hill has turned 51.

Known as a pioneer in the genre, Hill began her career as an actress, working on the soap opera As the World Turns, along with having a role in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. From there, she focused on her group, which was renamed the Fugees in 1993.

The group released two studio albums, beginning with Blunted on Reality in 1994 and then The Score in 1996. But they then decided to branch out on their own.

Hill released her solo album in 1998 titled The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which had a lot of success, going multiplatinum in several countries. She was nominated for 10 Grammy Awards for her work on the album, winning five, including best new artist and album of the year.

In 2002, she then released MTV Unplugged No. 2.0, which was a live album that shed a light on some very deeply personal themes.

She recently addressed why she never released another solo album, replying to an Instagram post.

"When you’re inspired and desire to be principled, what doesn’t get talked about enough is the drain… nor the challenge to find safety so that you can create with integrity,” she explained. “Most see opportunity as dollars only and often exclude the ‘sense’.”

Artists go through phases, creativity requires expression, exploration and experimentation. There were people who hated the Unplugged album and yet some today swear by its significance," she added. "

Along with her music work, Hill established the Refugee Project in 1996, which aimed to help underprivileged youth in New Jersey. The non-profit organization helped provide scholarships and programs. However, she ultimately shut down the organization.

Hill dealt with some legal troubles, pleading guilty to having failed to file tax returns for 2005–07 in 2012, where she was sentenced to three months in prison as well as three months in home confinement.

She took the stage at the 2026 Grammy Awards, which marked her first Grammy performance in 27 years, as she paid tribute to the late D'Angelo and Roberta Flack. Hill and Wyclef Jean will also be reuniting in June to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Fugees' landmark, The Score, at the Global Citizen Live: Rio de Janeiro.

The limited-time promotion also includes collectible soccer-themed merch. Each meal comes with either a Jack Mini Bobblehead or a Jack Mini Jersey Keychain, with five possible variations available while supplies last.

“With the Hot Ones Sriracha Curly Fry Burger and the Chick-N-Tater Melt, we wanted to create something that felt true to both brands,” Jack in the Box Executive Chef Ciaran Duffy said in a statement. “The result is a bold, elevated take on familiar favorites that bring the collaboration to life in a way that still feels distinctly Jack.”

Chris Schonberger, CEO of First We Feast and creator of Hot Ones, called the partnership “a natural fit” for both brands.

“Jack in the Box is a true West Coast icon, serving up undeniable cravings with a playful side of cultural mischief from Jack himself,” Schonberger said. “This collaboration delivers spicy, craveable twists on Jack in the Box favorites their fans will instantly recognize.”

The Hot Ones collaboration launches June 1 in stores and through the Jack app and will remain available through July 22.

The Family Stone Sequel Will Honor Diane Keaton

Back in November, Bezucha told CNN that Keaton's death in October at the age of 79 was motivation to get the sequel written.

“I’ve been haunted by the loss of Sybil for months now while I worked on it, and so this was a blow on a tender bruise already,” he shared. "Mentally, I’ve been spending time in that house where I’ve been missing her for a while already.”

However, he made it clear that he had no interest in making the film if the original stars weren't up for returning.

“I’m not interested in the Brady family reunion without the original Jan,” he said.

Popular Costco Item Recalled After 'Serious' Risk of 'Injury or Death' Reported

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 10:02am

Some Costco shoppers may want to double check their patio setup before heading outside this summer.

A popular patio swing sold exclusively through Costco is being recalled after multiple reports that the seat unexpectedly detached while consumers were using it, something federal safety officials say could lead to “serious injury or death.”

Here’s what we know:

The product being recalled

According to a May 14 recall notice issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, about 18,500 Agio Menlo Woven Patio Swings are affected.

The recalled swings, model number 1934256, were sold at Costco stores nationwide and online at Costco.com between February 2026 and March 2026 for between $549 and $649.

Officials say the issue stems from the swing seat potentially detaching from the frame while in use, creating what the agency described as a dangerous fall hazard. So far, the company has received eight reports of the seat detaching from the frame. Those incidents resulted in eight reported injuries, including impact injuries involving consumers’ heads and arms.

Agio apologized for the recall, noting on their website, “We want to thank you for your support and cooperation, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this recall may cause.”

What to do if you're affected

Consumers are being urged to “immediately stop using” the swings and contact World Bright International Limited for a free repair kit. The repair includes replacement hooks along with instructions for installation.

Anyone unsure whether they purchased the recalled model can also contact the company directly for assistance.

Consumers can reach World Bright International Limited toll-free at 888-383-1932 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET, email recall@agioliving.com, or visit Agio Living Recall Page for additional details.

Bellamy Young on Her Father’s Devastating Diagnosis: ‘It Was Heartbreaking'

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 9:50am

These days, Bellamy Young, 56, is known for her incredible acting skills and notable roles on shows like Scandal and Brilliant Minds. But when she was a teenager, she was completely consumed by one thing: Caring for her father, who had overt hepatic encephalopathy (OHE), a decline in brain function caused by severe liver disease.

"My dad's overt hepatic encephalopathy was born out of his drinking, and his initial diagnosis was cirrhosis," Young, who has partnered with Salix Pharmaceuticals to help promote an FDA-approved medication to reduce the risk of OHE recurrence, tells Parade. "Drinking was always a part of my childhood. Once we got the cirrhosis diagnosis, we were very ashamed of it—we came home, closed the door and didn't talk about it. And we had no idea that a disease that could affect his liver could eventually affect his brain, his proprioception and his personality."

Eventually, Young says, she and her mother started to see a "very different dad," which is what tipped them off to something going on beyond cirrhosis. "Now I can look back and separate the man from the disease, but then I was young and I didn't know what was happening," she remembers.

Below, Young shares the details of the journey to her father's OHE diagnosis, how she felt when they finally got answers and the truth about her caregiving journey.

Bellamy Young

The Journey to a Diagnosis

When Young's father's personality started to shift, she remembers feeling embarrassed, as any teenager would. "He had become combative at work, he would forget to pick me up at school and his breath would smell different. He had that hand flap, which I now know is very textbook OHE—but as a teenager, I just thought, What is my dad doing?"

One night, her dad couldn't find his way home from work, despite having worked in the same office location for decades. This is what finally got Young and her mother to seek help. "When we went back to the doctor, they said this is now overt hepatic encephalopathy. At that point, it was very, very progressed."

The doctor explained that OHE can happen as liver disease progresses, and they just hadn't known to pay attention to those little incremental changes along the way. "It's not as scary as it sounds," Young emphasizes. "'Overt' just means not hidden. 'Hepatic' refers to the liver. 'Encephalopathy' means it affects the brain.'"

Related: We Asked 3 Hepatologists What To Drink in the Morning for Liver Health and They All Said the Same Thing

While Young emphasizes that she's not a doctor or medical expert, she says spreading awareness is so important to her because symptoms do present similarly to other brain diseases, like Alzheimer's.

"I'm so grateful to have partnered with Salix to start talking about these things, because this happens to so many people and no one's talking about it," she explains. "My mom and I had no idea that liver disease could be chronic and progressive—we didn't know we could go into a different chapter of his disease process."

Bellamy Young's father in front of his first house.

Bellamy Young

If they had known that changes in how he used his body, changes in his memory, changes in his personality might actually be stemming from what was happening in his liver, she says, "we would have gotten him back to the doctor so much sooner."

Young emphasizes that today, there are so many more treatment options than there used to be: "I talk about it, even though it makes me sad, so that nobody else feels alone—and so that anyone whose loved one is diagnosed with a chronic and progressive liver disease knows this is something that might happen, and can catch it early."

Getting Answers

When Young finally got a definitive answer, a few months after she and her mom took him to the doctor because of his different behaviors, she was heartbroken. "I'm someone who very much believes knowledge is power, and usually once I know something, I can lock in and move forward," she says. "But this was really heartbreaking, because it was so progressed by the time we got there."

She also felt a lot of guilt. "I felt so guilty—guilty for not being a partner to him on this journey, for not having known to look out for something," she says. "It's hard to notice incremental changes in the people we love because we're around them all the time. It was just the darkest day."

Related: ‘I’m a Hepatologist—This Is the One Thing I Tell Every Patient With Fatty Liver Disease To Do Before Anything Else’

Stepping Into a Caregiving Role

Young shares that because she became her father's caregiver as a teenager, she was her "worst human self." "I wasn't happy to do it. I was really miserable," she admits. "I didn't have people over. There was a hospital bed in the living room. As a teenager, that's so embarrassing."

She says her mom was the "responsible one," doling out medicine and making sure her dad got to all of his appointments. "I was the harder edge of caretaking. And the crux of it is the same crux so many people face: the resentment. That's an embarrassing thing to admit, but the resentment of wanting to live your life too," Young says. "A sickness takes precedent and love wins out, and I wouldn't give anything for the time I did have with my dad. But it took me years to recover from that [role]."

Her experience as a caregiver is another reason why Young has so much gratitude for her partnership with Salix, which also provides caregiving resources. "I don't want anyone else to feel this way; I don't want them to walk the same path. I want everybody to know they're not alone, that there's so much information and so many treatment options now, to find their community, to always check in with themselves and rely on people. People want to show up for you more than you realize."

Why Her Role on Brilliant Minds ‘Hits Different'

Young recently played Dr. Amelia Frederick, the clinical director of a long-term mental healthcare facility on the NBC medical drama Brilliant Minds, which she says "hits different" given what she went through with her dad.

"I've been a huge fan of Oliver Sacks my whole life, so it was incredible to get the chance to work on a show built around his character. But what meant the most to me—especially through the lens of everything I went through with my dad—is that Oliver Sacks never gave up on anybody," she says. "He was always interested in the story. He saw the person, not the disease, and treated each patient with respect and utter attention. I think if we all walk through life with utter attention for whoever we're with, only love can come from that. Getting to do that series really meant a lot to me."

And in case you're wondering, yes—she is still in touch with the Scandal cast. "I'll be with them tonight!" she says. "We have a Scandal text thread going every single day—it's always happening. George [Newbern] and Tony [Goldwyn] were just together in London; Kerry [Washington] will be here this summer. It really has continued to be a family. We haven't managed to get absolutely everyone together since Cornelius [Smith]'s wedding, but there are always little pockets of us gathering somewhere. Shonda [Rhimes] kindly invites us to the US Open every year, so that's a tentpole on the Scandal family calendar."

‘Another Picture-Perfect Rom-Com’: GMA Book Club Announces a Relatable Beach Read as June 2026 Pick

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 9:49am

Can you believe another month is almost here? The GMA Book Club pick for June 2026 has been announced, and it’s available on shelves today! Dolly All the Time by Annabel Monaghan is a must-read for the summer.

You know Monaghan for her delightful romances. She is one of the queens when it comes to this genre, bringing us love and laughter with Same Time Next Summer and Nora Goes Off Script. Now it’s time for her latest release, Dolly All the Time, and this goes a step further than a summer romance.

It’s a relatable story of life and caring for other people. There are heartfelt moments as we explore Dolly’s sacrifices that she has made over the years, which is something that many people have experienced, especially in recent years.

It’s already received rave reviews, with Woman’s Word calling it “another picture-perfect rom-com,” and Town & Country noting that, “Monaghan frames the story around independence, vulnerability, and the uneasy shift from self-sufficiency to partnership.”

And it’s not just publications that are offering it high praise. Authors such as romance bestseller Carley Fortune and The Flatshare author Beth O’Leary are recommending it to their readers.

Dolly All the Time focuses on the titular character Dolly Brick, who is a hardworking single mom who has returned to the fictional seaside town of Whitfield, Rhode Island. After years away, she needs to return to save the family home from being lost, as her brother and father are struggling to keep it.

Dolly hasn’t faced a problem that she can’t solve, but this one is proving a little trickier. What better way than to figure it out, though, than with a fake dating arrangement with wealthy heir, Stewart Whitfield. Of course, as the two start to spend more time together, they end up realizing that maybe they are the perfect fit and the arrangement becomes something more. It’s perfect for fake dating trope fans.

The part of Dolly returning home came from Monaghan’s experiences walking through generational homes that ended up being lost. She realized that there was likely one family member who felt responsible for it all, because there’s always “the one who makes the holiday plans and has a copy of everyone’s will.”

In the press release for Dolly All the Time, Monaghan went on to explain, “I thought it might be fun to match a rich guy who is under the pressure of maintaining his family legacy with a regular woman who is under the pressure of managing a kid, a full-time job, three side hustles, and a disabled brother. Stewart Whitfield and Dolly Brick come from totally different worlds, but they play the same role in their families. They are both the person in the family on which everything falls.”

Dolly All the Time is now available to buy in a bookstore (physical and online) near you!

What Kind of Pet Parent You Are, Based on Birth Month

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 9:48am

Being a pet parent requires so much more than providing food and shelter. No two pets are alike, so a pet’s needs and temperaments won’t align with every potential pet parent. For example, a high-energy dog needs someone who can keep up with their excitability, whereas an easygoing cat needs someone who can provide a relaxing environment. Luckily, every birth month has unique attributes and traits that make them standout pet parents.

The spiritual energy of each birth month varies, so all birth months have different pet parenting styles. Depending on your birth month, you might be an inquisitive pet parent who wants to learn their pet’s quirks or an intuitive parent who knows exactly what your pet desires. There’s no right or wrong way to parent your pet, because your birth month will set you up for success. Read on to discover the kind of pet parent you are, according to your birth month.

2007 Thriller Film, Once a Box Office Flop, Is Suddenly Climbing the Charts 19 Years Later

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 9:48am

Films that didn't meet the mark at the box office have been gaining new life thanks to streaming services. A Samuel L. Jackson thriller film from 2007 is making its way to the top of the Netflix charts since becoming available to watch, but it wasn't the biggest success upon its release.

Cleaner stars Jackson alongside an A-list cast includingEd Harris, Keke Palmer, and Eva Mendes in a police cover-up storyline. The film is now high on the charts of Netflix's Top 10 list, ranking in at No. 4, beating out the psychological thrillerStolen Baby starring Emily Osment.

Released in late May of 2007, Cleaner centers around retired police officer Tom Cutler (Jackson). He's now retired and owns his own crime scene cleaning service. Eight years prior, his life was turned upside down when his wife was murdered in a home invasion that his daughter witnessed.

Like any other day at work, Tom receives an order from someone named Detective Jones to clean up a crime scene at a wealthy home. Using his own special blend of chemicals, Tom leaves the home spotless and later realizes that he accidentally kept the house key. When returning to the home, he meets the owner and wife, Ann Norcut (Mendes), who has no idea about his services. Tom soon realizes something is wrong and starts to suspect he's involved in a murder cover-up.

Cleaner was considered a box-office flop upon release, having had a budget of $25 million, but only making $5.8 million. IMDb gives the film a 6.1 score, while Rotten Tomatoes scored it a lower 17%. The thriller, directed by Renny Harlin, received mixed reviews from critics and fans, with many calling it an enjoyable thriller versus mediocre storytelling.

"A neatly contained crime whodunit with a nifty setup and an expert lead performance from Samuel L. Jackson," said The Hollywood Reporter.

Another critic said, "It's not that Cleaner is a terrible film, it just doesn't rear back and sock the viewer in the jaw like a great thriller should. It's mild sauce from the first frame to the last."

Some fans praised Jackson and the cast's performance, but felt they were far too good actors working with an "increasingly impossible plot." Other fans felt Cleaner had a good premise but did little to develop a worthwhile plot, which is tagged as a "forgettable flick."

Paul McCartney Favorably Compares Taylor Swift to the Beatles: 'You Do See the Parallel'

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 9:03am

Few musicians have ever achieved the fame and instantaneous recognition that came with the Beatles back in the 1960s.

With their popularity equal to that of a young Elvis Presley in the 1950s, the Fab Four became some of the most iconic faces in rock and roll history up that point in time, paving the way to millions of diehard fans following the group's work.

While few artists have secured as dedicated a fandom as the Beatles, Paul McCartney certainly sees shades of the band with Taylor Swift's continuously growing popularity, something he discussed at some length in a recent interview with BBC Sounds.

Asked whether he would give Swift any advice when it comes to her own momentous musical achievements, the 83-year-old said that he can certainly see similarities between Swift's popularity and that of the Beatles in the 1960s, especially when it comes to the thousands of adoring fans who attend the former's concerts.

“You do see the parallel, you know the fame and the amount of fame,” said McCartney. “The worldwide fame that Taylor Swift has and that we had, but I don't think she needs any advice to tell you the truth."

Given the fact that Swift seems to be walking a similar path to the Beatles in her own career trajectory, McCartney said that he likes to think of himself as a precursor of sorts to the "Shake It Off" artist.

“If she asked for [advice], I definitely would,” the Wings founder said. “I'm like the older brother to that generation, or more like the grandad, actually.”

McCartney shared a similar outlook when it came to other artists who are likewise experiencing new exposure in the music industry, including Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo, all of whom McCartney called "really cool people."

“I like their voices,” the "Yesterday" singer said. “If they need any advice, yeah, I would be happy to give it, but I don't think they do.”

'Summer House' Star Mia Calabrese Wears J.Lo's Iconic Versace Dress at 2026 AMAs

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 9:02am

Jennifer Lopez would be proud.

On Monday, Summer Housestar Mia Calabrese took to the red carpet of the 2026 American Music Awards donning Versace. But not just any Versace — it was the dress inspired by the iconic look that Lopez wore to the Grammy Awards in 2000.

The eye-catching green and blue jungle print dress was complete with a deep plunging neckline, side cut outs, and a flowing full-length skirt.

View this post on Instagram

And while the dress was first made famous over 20 years ago — and drummed up so much curiosity that it led to the creation of Google Image Search — the ensemble was given new life in 2019 when the "Love Don't Cost a Thing" singer closed out Versace's Milan Fashion Week show wearing the new version of the dress, the one Calabrese sported at the award show.

The dress' refreshed look kept the plunging neckline but ditched the sleeves and had more of a bodysuit look to it.

"The first time I wore it, I actually didn’t have another dress," Lopez told Vanity Fair in 2020. "Usually I have choices. It was a last-minute thing that caused a sensation that was unexpected."

"The second time was very planned-out," she continued, noting that Donatella Versace herself mentioned that the 20th anniversary of the dress was approaching and that she wanted to design her fashion show around it — with the singer participating.

"The second time I wore it and walked out there, it was such an empowering thing. Twenty years had gone by, and I think for women, knowing you can put on a dress 20 years later — it resonated. It was like, 'Yes, you know, life is not over at 20!'

Calabrese wearing the dress comes after an inspo for its original was worn by a character in the new hit Amazon Prime series Off Campus — which got Lopez's seal of approval.

"Love this shooooww," she wrote.

Oreo Just Made History With Its New BTS Cookie Pack

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 9:01am

Oreo's newest cookie is bound to be a global sensation—just like its collaborators, BTS.

The iconic sandwich cookie brand revealed on Tuesday that it's teaming up with the K-pop group and its members—Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jung Kook—to bring "a taste of their roots to a global audience," per an official announcement shared with Parade.

Oreo has previously collaborated with artists like Post Malone and Selena Gomez, and still, its newest limited-time cookie collaboration marks a first for both Oreo and the band, who were very involved in the process.

"For Oreo to be the first snacking brand we’ve collaborated with globally is a huge honor. We ate them as kids, we eat them in the studio, and now Oreo is helping us share a taste of home with the world," the band shared in a statement. "We’re just so proud to add our own chapter to Oreo's amazing story."

Oreo's New BTS Collab Brings Korean Flavors to the Cookie Aisle

According to an official description, the Oreo & BTS cookie flavor features a brown sugar pancake creme inspired by hotteok, a beloved Korean street snack (a brown sugar pancake), and the band’s favorite snack growing up. The cookies also feature Oreo's first-ever original purple wafers, serving as a "nod to the bond between BTS and their fans."

As letters are submitted, Oreo said it will make them public so fans can read each others’ words to BTS as the "largest love letter prepares to come to life in the real world." Fans who submit their love letters on the platform are also entered for a chance to win exclusive Oreo brand & BTS prizes.

"At its core, this partnership is about shared passion. We’re uniting BTS' incredibly dedicated fanbase with our own loyal Oreo fans to create something genuinely new and exciting," Matt Foley, vice president of marketing at Oreo, explained. Where Will the Oreo & BTS Cookies Be Available?

Oreo said its new flavor will be available in 80 countries (including the U.S.), with an online pre-sale beginning on Monday, June 1.

The Oreo & BTS cookies will then start rolling out at retailers about a week later (expected June 8) in classic cookie packs, packs of 10 individually wrapped cookie sets, and larger bulk boxes, and will be available for a limited time while supplies last (prices may vary).

David Letterman Claims Johnny Carson 'Couldn't Care Less' About His '80s Talk Show: 'Call Me When They’re Canceled'

Tue, 05/26/2026 - 8:36am

Nowadays, it's easy to see that David Letterman remains one of the most influential and important talk show hosts of all time.

Transforming the nature of late night and introducing a rowdier, more sardonic sense of humor than anything else of its generation, Letterman single-handedly redefined TV comedy with his career-defining work on Late Night beginning in the mid 1980s.

For all its undeniable success, however, Letterman has said that his iconic successor and employer at NBC, Johnny Carson, saw little reason to worry about the up-and-coming talk show overtaking his own series on late night TV.

In a conversation with Vulture late last year, the accomplished comedian said that the main thing he remembered Carson being worried about when it came to his show is Late Night's budget, something reflected in Carson's own earnings.

“To my memory, Johnny couldn’t have cared less, except whatever cut of the budget he got,” Letterman said of the TV host's outlook on Late Night back in the '80s and early '90s.

As Letterman saw it, his Late Night series posed "no threat" to Carson's undisputed reign of late night television. “To him, we were just, ‘Eh, okay, call me when they’re canceled,’” Letterman said with his traditional dry sense of humor.

Though Letterman said Carson himself remained personally friendly to Letterman, the latter revealed that he never explicitly asked for Carson's thoughts on his show.

“I think he found it amusing,” Letterman said. “I always felt like, if you’re not as good as Johnny, really, is there any point in leaving Indiana?”

Despite his lengthy tenure in mainstream entertainment, Letterman went on to say that he still feels Carson's work remains an achievement in and of itself, aging miraculously well in the decades since his stint as the Tonight Show host came to an end.

“If you look at Johnny’s work now, my God, it was just solid,” Letterman opined.. “Pick one night of one week — the first year, the eighth year, the 20th year — he’s just rock solid."
