Adele is spending more time on the race track these days than in the recording booth.

In a new video shared by McLaren Racing on Friday, July 3, the "Easy On Me" singer was seen visiting the McLaren Mastercard F1 Team in England, where she discussed bonding over the sport with her son, Angelo.

In the video, McLaren CEO Zak Brown gives the Grammy winner, 38, a tour of the McLaren Technology Centre and asks Adele how she got into the sport.

"My son is really into karting and things like that," Adele said of the teen, whom she shares with ex-husband Simon Konecki. It wasn't long after that her son's "obsession" became a shared passion for the pair.

"He just sort of asked about it a couple of years ago and I was like, 'Alright,'" she continued after Brown, 54, asked how Angelo got into the sport. "I don't know many teenagers now that have an actual passion. So I'm really trying to encourage it."

She continued, "When your kid has an interest, you have to get into it. And more importantly, I think you have to be interested in it."

While Adele, who also got the chance to meet F1 driver Lando Norris on the tour, said she didn't expect to bond with the soon-to-be 14-year-old "about something so passionate where we argue about drivers," she called their newfound hobby "fun."

"But it's fun to have that interaction with a teenage boy in 2026," Adele added. "I wasn't expecting it."

Though Adele's love for the sport is fairly new, the singer has been seen at several F1 races, including the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, where she visited the pit of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team and posed for a photo with drivers George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

Following the suicide of bandmate Kurt Cobain, Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl found himself contemplating quitting music entirely. He was invited to drum for several bands, including Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Danzig, but even after joining a few live performances, Grohl felt strongly he should work on his own project instead. He saw the opportunity as something of "cathartic therapy."

Grohl booked six days at the Robert Lang Studios in Seattle and brought along producer Barrett Jones to work with him. Previously, in 1992, Grohl had recorded a series of demos called Pocketwatch, which he had done very little with. He intended to create something similar with his week at Robert Lang, recording new music, playing every instrument, and releasing it under a name that would make listeners believe it was a full band, not just a solo project.

Over a period of one week in October 1994, Grohl and Jones produced the new record, typically getting through four songs per day. Grohl quadrupled up his vocals on certain tracks due to his insecurity as a singer and accomplished every song in roughly 45 minutes.

In an effort to preserve his anonymity with the project, Grohl released the album under the "band" name, the Foo Fighters.

The record was released to acclaim from critics, with publications praising Grohl's voice and finding the similarities to Cobain and Nirvana. Billboardsaid it was filled with "inspired songwriting and passionate performances" and Entertainment Weeklysaid, "[Grohl's] songs pack the riffy wallop of unpolished Nirvana demos, and his voice has Kurt Cobain's lunging, over-the-top passion."

Grohl intended to use the pseudonym "Foo Fighters" to work on solo projects post-Nirvana; however, when labels began to show interest after his recorded the "self-titled" debut, he recruited bassist Nate Mendel, drummer William Goldsmith, and guitarist Pat Smear to make up an actual band. Grohl himself became the lead vocalist and guitarist as opposed to his role as drummer in Nirvana. Grohl ended up licensing the record to Columbia, and the band made their first public performance in February 1995, five months before the album's full release.

Five years after tying the knot, the couple celebrated their anniversary with emotional social media tributes that quickly had fans in their feels.

On Thursday, July 3, both Shelton, 50, and Stefani, 56, shared posts celebrating one another on Instagram. Shelton kicked things off with a carousel of photos from their wedding day, including a close-up of Stefani wearing her bridal veil and several other moments from the celebration. "5 years and every day is better than the last... I love you @gwenstefani SHELTON!!!! Happy anniversary my pretty girl!!!!" he wrote.

Stefani celebrated the milestone with a Reel featuring highlights from throughout their relationship, from sweet behind-the-scenes moments to clips from their July 2021 wedding. "5 years married to my forever 💐🤍 still making me laugh every day @blakeshelton gx," she captioned the post.

The anniversary posts arrive after the couple spent the end of last year battling persistent online rumors that their marriage was in trouble. 

Speaking with Country Countdown USA in January, Shelton admitted he was stunned by how quickly false stories about their relationship spread online. "Starting in October, I think, or maybe November, I started noticing these articles popping up about 'Blake and Gwen, they're split up, they're not even seeing each other anymore, they're going through a divorce,'" he recalled. "A week later a picture comes out of us walking out of the grocery store, 'Oh, they're back together again,'" he added with a laugh.

Shelton and Stefani first met while serving as coaches on The Voice in 2014 and married in July 2021 at Shelton's Oklahoma ranch. Together, they also help raise Stefani's three sons—Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo—from her previous marriage to Gavin Rossdale.

Some musicians spend their careers behind the biggest names in music, helping shape the sound without always standing at the front of the stage.

Sandy Gennaro, the drummer, speaker and author known as "The Rock and Roll Thought Leader," turns 75 on July 3 after a career that has taken him through several major eras of rock and pop music.

Born in New York City, Gennaro built a reputation as a reliable and hard-hitting drummer whose work carried him from studio sessions to major tours. Over the years, he has recorded and performed with artists including Cyndi Lauper, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Bo Diddley, Johnny Winter, The Monkees, Michael Bolton, Benny Mardones and more.

Gennaro later reflected on the lasting power of the songs he helped bring to audiences. "Great songs will always be played and always hold up years later, and they become our classical music," he said in an interview with Classic Bands. He added that he felt "very lucky" to have been involved with songs including The Monkees' classics, Cyndi Lauper's hits and Joan Jett's "I Love Rock 'n' Roll."

His career also included work with the Pat Travers Band and Blackjack, the group that featured a young Michael Bolton before his later rise as a solo star. Across those projects, Gennaro became the kind of musician whose impact could be felt across genres, from classic rock and pop to old-school rock and roll.

Beyond the stage, Gennaro has also turned his music industry experience into a second chapter as a speaker and mentor. His official website describes him as a world-class speaker and drummer whose career spans more than five decades, and his work now focuses on using lessons from the music business to inspire audiences outside of music as well.

Gennaro is also the author of Beat the Odds, a book built around the personal and professional lessons he learned during his long career in music. That role has helped make his "Rock and Roll Thought Leader" title more than just a nickname, connecting his time behind the drum kit with his work helping others apply those lessons in life and business.

As he turns 75, Gennaro's career reflects the reach of a drummer whose name is connected to several major artists and unforgettable eras of popular music. Throughout the late '80s, the hard rock band Guns N' Roses produced plenty of hits, including "Sweet Child O' Mine" (1987), "Welcome To The Jungle" (1987), and "Patience" (1988).

Nearly 40 years after its release, "Patience," off the band's second album, G N' R Lies, is being recognized for its impact. On July 3, the publication American Songwriter included the ballad on the list of "4 rock songs that define the classic sound of the 1980s." The other '80s rock songs featured on the list are Prince's 1984 hit, "When Doves Cry," Tom Petty's “Runnin’ Down A Dream," released in 1989, and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts' 1981 cover of “I Love Rock ‘n' Roll."

"Patience" secured the No. 4 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1989.

Axl Rose Discussed the Song 'Patience' in a 1989 Interview

In a 1989 interview with journalist and Guns N' Roses road manager Del James, Guns N' Roses' singer Axl Rose shared details about "Patience." According to Rose, the band's rhythm guitarist, Izzy Stradlin, "wrote most of the words except for the ending part." In addition, Rose said that guitarist Slash and Duff McKagan, the bassist of Guns N' Roses, "got in on rearranging and rewriting the music parts" of the song.

Rose also explained that the tune "was written about needing patience and having a lack of it." The musician, now 64, went on to say that he had trouble enjoying the song because he lacks patience.

"When I hear it it just makes me think about how I don't have any patience now. Same way for basically everybody in the band. Like, it depresses us because we go, 'Man, we thought we were getting closer to finding some peace of mind. And we're farther from it than we've ever been.' Or at least that's the way it seems," said Rose during the 1989 interview.

He went on to say that he believes that "patience is a virtue," which is "something that [he and his bandmates] try and strive for and try to gain more of." Rose also shared that he thought "the world could use a bit more patience."

"We know that a lot of situations just need more patience to make them work, you know, not just from us from anybody involved in a situation. It takes patience on all parts to get to reach an understanding," continued Rose.

Few songs capture the bittersweet feeling of growing up quite like The Smashing Pumpkins’ “1979.” Released in 1995, the coming-of-age anthem became the band’s biggest crossover hit, and now, more than three decades later, it’s been crowned the greatest rock song of the ’90s by Collider.

The outlet described the track as “nostalgic, bittersweet, and effortlessly emotional,” noting that it topped Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So,” Radiohead’s “Let Down,” and even grunge gods Nirvana’s era-defining anthem, “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

Written by longtime Pumpkins frontman and guitarist Billy Corgan, “1979” is one of several iconic tracks from the band’s masterpiece double album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Its timeless brilliance includes enduring favorites like “Take Me Down,” “Tonight, Tonight,” “Bullet With Butterfly Wings,” and “Jellybelly.”

With the angsty, dreamy “1979,” Corgan once shared that the song began with a seemingly mundane experience, one that pretty much everyone has found themselves in at some point: sitting at a traffic light, “waiting for something to happen, and not being quite there yet, but it’s just around the corner.”

That feeling proved universally relatable, with the song's lyrics reflecting the transition from teenhood to adulthood, when restlessness, dependence, and independence are all at war with each other.

According to Songfacts, the track was the last song written for the album, with Corgan tearing through the lyrics in a matter of hours and the band recording it the following day.

The last-minute effort proved worthwhile, and “1979” became their biggest hit. Peaking at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 (the highest of any Pumpkins song), the track spent multiple weeks at No. 1 on both the Billboard Alternative Airplay and Mainstream Rock charts.

“1979” was also nominated for two Grammy Awards: Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance. It didn't win, but "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" took home a gramophone for Best Hard Rock Performance, giving the band their first Grammy.

Still, “1979" has since become one of alternative rock's defining anthems, regularly appearing on lists of the greatest songs of the 1990s.

“The melancholy of ‘1979’ wasn’t a lament for a better time; it was a call to action,” American Songwriter wrote. “The restlessness of Billy Corgan and Chicago’s Smashing Pumpkins was a shared experience of youth across the country, and it helped alternative music dominate radio and MTV."​

As Donna Kelce flew into New York on July 2, it was clear that everything was starting to kick off. That night was reportedly time for a rehearsal dinner in Madison Square Garden, and guests were seen with velvet boxes engraved with two Ts connected together.

Despite a lot of secrecy around the event, people spotted boxes of alcohol and lobster meat being taken into venues. The owner of OBriens Bar & Grill, Michael O’Brien, has spoken out about the event and how his bar, which is opposite MSG, was forced to close. He says he wanted to work with Swift and Kelce due to the proximity to the location, but was "stonewalled."

He told Us Weekly that he said to Swift's team, "If you want a private event with the block closed, look to buy us out. Whether you want to use us as a function or you just want us closed for privacy, we are more than willing to do whatever it is you need. Work with us, talk to us." However, instead of that, barricades have been put up on either side of the street to prevent people from walking down it, despite initially being told that the sidewalk in front of his place would remain open.

Friday morning saw a stream of SUVs and other vehicles enter MSG. The guest list is still mostly unknown, and it's been impossible to see inside the SUVs to spot the celebrities who got an invite.

O'Brien wasn't the only one annoyed by the closure of MSG. Regular people found themselves struggling to navigate, with one woman angry that she was going to miss her train to New Jersey due to the festivities.

Despite closures and the heat, Swifties and Chiefs fans gathered in New York in the hope of getting a glimpse of the happy couple. Many just wanted to see Swift in her wedding dress, as it's going to be difficult to get anything online since invited guests are rumored to not be allowed their phones at all.

Despite all the secrecy, fans are excited. One shared, "I am so excited for her. I’m so happy for her. I can’t wait to see all the pictures and videos that come out of this."

Another said, "Everyone is so excited for the Madison Square Garden wedding, and a lot of people are talking about it."

The wedding is estimated to have cost between $25M to $100M, according to CNN. Luxury wedding planner JoAnn Gregoli shared, “You don’t want people to walk in there and think that they’re in any type of arena at all. So, this means hiding seats, transforming bathrooms, hallways, walkways. It is going to take a tremendous amount of draping and foliage and florals to really turn this into something that it’s not."

By hanging out, many got a glimpse at some of the rumored 1000 guests at the big event. Actor Hugh Grant, author Jenny Han, singer Gwen Stefani, and Eras Tour opening act Benson Boone were among the privileged guests. After the suggestions that the wedding would be a black tie event, photos of the celebrities certainly confirmed that.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are enjoying a city break.

Just as Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's friends and family made their way into New York City for the pair's rumored wedding festivities, the Gossip Girl alum and her husband were seen more than 200 miles out of town.

According to TMZ, which published photos of the pair on Thursday, both Lively and Reynolds were in Lake Placid, New York, to support their 6-year-old daughter, Betty, who was competing in a horse show.

Lively and Reynolds, who also share children James, 11, Inez, 9, Betty, 6, and Olin, 3, were all smiles as they cheered their daughter on after her second-place finish in a riding competition. The Another Simple Favor star rocked a blue tank top and denim shorts, while Reynolds opted for a white T-shirt, khakis, and a straw hat for the occasion.

The outing comes amid a Page Six report published late last month claiming that Lively had not been invited to Swift's upcoming wedding celebrations at Madison Square Garden, despite speculation that the longtime friends were repairing their friendship following Lively's legal battle with her It Ends With Us co-star, Justin Baldoni.

Swift was subpoenaed in connection with the dispute before the subpoena was later withdrawn. Sources told the outlet at the time that the "Love Story" singer was frustrated by being dragged unnecessarily into Lively and Baldoni's legal battle.

The fallout created distance between Swift and Lively, who had been close friends for more than a decade, with Swift even naming a track on her 2020 album Folklore after Lively and Reynolds' daughter, Betty.

While it remains to be seen whether the couple scored a last-minute invite to the affair, their trip to Lake Placid suggests they may have had other plans.

Country singer Jason Aldean hit an exciting milestone on Friday.

The 49-year-old earned a No. 1 hit song on the country radio charts with his song "Don't Tell On Me," which marked his 32nd song to reach this accomplishment.

"Don't Tell on Me" by Aldean is an emotional, rock-infused country song about a guy hiding his heartbreak. The singer pleads with his own heart to keep quiet and help him play it cool, begging it not to reveal how badly he is hurting and that he is still in love with his ex. The song served as the second single for Aldean's 12th studio album, Songs About Us, which was released on April 24. "Don't Tell on Me" was put out in early March.

The track was written by Tully Kennedy and Kurt Allison, who have been songwriting and collaborating with Aldean even before he reached the national spotlight. They both wrote "Don't Tell on Me" with Aldean in mind.

"When you're going through something, the only thing that really knows the truth is your heart," Kennedy told Billboard in March. "So you try to put up a front to people — you know, your friends — and really, it can be kind of a charade when it's all said and done. So writing something about that, where it's just the heart not tipping your hand."

More than 30 of Aldean's 41 singles have reached No. 1 on either the Hot Country Songs or Country Airplay charts, including "Amarillo Sky", "She's Country", "Big Green Tractor", "Crazy Town", "My Kinda Party", "When She Says Baby", "Burnin' It Down", "You Make It Easy", "If I Didn't Love You", "Try That in a Small Town," "Whiskey Drink" and more.

When Aldean reached 30 songs hitting No. 1, he spoke with Billboard and went through every single chart-topping song and explained the meaning of each one. His first No. 1 hit was "Why," which was crowned on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in late May 2006, and served as the second single from his self-titled debut album.

"Our first single had, you know, took like 40-something weeks to crack the top 10. And you know, our first No. 1," Aldean reminisced. "I just remember thinking, 'Man, if all this goes away tomorrow, I can at least say I had a No. 1 single.'"

Aldean grew up in Georgia with his mother, but spent summers in Florida with his father, who taught him how to play guitar. After performing locally with a band during his teenage years, he was approached by longtime producer and music executive Michael Knox and released his self-titled debut album in 2006, peaking at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Since then, he has released twelve studio albums.

"I love it, I love going in the studio, working on these things and creating new music and working on this that we think are really cool," he told Nashville Music Now on a red carpet. "[I get] a chance to put them out and see what everybody has to say about it and thinks about them."

Aldean has been on the road all summer with his Full Throttle Tour, which he announced back in January. On July 16, he will be starting the summer leg of the national tour, opening in Maine, then performing in multiple states such as New York, Kansas, North Carolina, New Jersey, Missouri, Oklahoma, California, West Virginia and more, before concluding in Florida on Oct. 4.

In addition, Aldean is continuing to perform co-headlining stadium shows for the Double Down Tour 2026 with Luke Bryan. The extended run will officially end in December in Las Vegas.

The frontman of the classic new wave band, Dexys Midnight Runners, spoke about the band's future in a new interview while fans await the group's first new album under their original name since 1985.

Kevin Rowland, who has been with the band as a singer and guitarist since its formation in 1978, spoke with Mojo magazine about Dexys Midnight Runners and the upcoming album, LOVE. At one point, the publication noted that the new album "feels like you're looking back and tying up a lot of loose ends," before asking, "Will there be another one after this?"

Rowland's answer is probably not the one fans were hoping for. He said, "It felt like the last album when we were making it, and to be honest, right now, I don't feel like making another one."

"Never say never," he added, making it clear that his feelings on the topic could change down the line. "I don't want to be one of those people that comes back and says: I've changed my mind! But right now, I can't imagine it. It takes so much out of me."

The musician explained that part of the reason for not wanting to produce another album is that he likes to get things "exactly right," and it can take a lot of time and effort. As for his feelings on LOVE, Rowland declared, "I'm really happy with this record. It feels like a good ending."

Many people are familiar with Dexys Midnight Runners because of their 1982 hit song "Come On Eileen," although they've had other popular tracks, mainly in the U.K. The band had a long break between 1986 and 2003, and between 2003 and 2026, they went by the name Dexys.

By the time glam metal took over the 1980s, Stephen Pearcy had already helped give the genre one of its most recognizable voices.

The Ratt frontman and Arcade lead singer turns 70 on July 3, marking another milestone for a musician whose career helped define the sound and attitude of the Sunset Strip era.

Pearcy was born July 3, 1956, and became best known as the founder, lead singer and songwriter of Ratt. The band formed in Los Angeles in 1982 after Pearcy's earlier group Mickey Ratt, and quickly became one of the major names of the decade's glam metal scene.

Ratt's breakthrough came with the release of Out of the Cellar in 1984, an album that helped bring the band's sharp hooks, flashy style and hard-rock edge to a much wider audience. Its biggest single, "Round and Round," became the band's signature song and remains one of the most recognizable glam metal tracks of the era.

Pearcy's voice was a major part of that success. With Ratt, he helped lead songs such as "Round and Round," "Lay It Down," "Wanted Man," "You're in Love" and "Back for More," giving the band a sound that stood out during one of rock's most crowded and competitive decades.

After his time with Ratt, Pearcy continued building his career through other projects, including Arcade, the glam metal supergroup he formed in the early 1990s. The band featured musicians connected to acts such as Cinderella, Sea Hags and Gypsy Rose, giving Pearcy another outlet after years fronting one of the biggest names in '80s metal.

He also released solo music and remained active as a performer, keeping his connection to Ratt's catalog and glam metal history alive for fans who still return to the songs decades later.

For Pearcy, that longevity has come from a lasting connection to the work itself. In a 2021 interview with The Cosmick View, he said, "I keep busy...record and write songs all the time." He also explained why he has stayed in music for so long, adding, "Overall, the music business, I love it. You know, I wouldn't be doing it this long."

As Pearcy celebrates his 70th birthday, his place in rock history remains tied to a loud, flashy and unforgettable era. From Ratt's rise on the Sunset Strip to his later work with Arcade and beyond, his voice helped shape glam metal at its peak and left an impact that still carries through the genre today.

As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, Americans are marking the occasion with fireworks, hot dogs, and all of the Fourth of July traditions we’ve come to know and love.

WhistlePig Distillery is set on making rye the country’s official whiskey, even going so far as to ask fans to sign a petition to take the request to Congress. The brand’s website reads, “America has an official bird. An official flower. An official anthem. And for 250 years, no official whiskey. As America turns 250, that changes. Long before the United States existed, Rye thrived in tough conditions where other grains fell short. It was here before bourbon, before Tennessee whiskey, before any of it. The grain that fed this country in its hardest years and filled its glasses on the best ones has never gotten official recognition.” 

The brand explains that rye was a popular spirit during the time of the Founding Fathers, pointing out that George Washington even had his own rye distillery. According to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, it was one of “the largest whiskey distilleries in early America.”

While it may take some time for Congress to listen to the brand’s plea, WhistlePig recently made history in another way with the inclusion of its Louisville, Kentucky tasting room into the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Metallica fails to disappoint when they hit the road during summer. The band has made a brand out of delivering massive on-stage spectacles. Their songs really lend themselves to the biggest stages possible, and the moments that are created are simply unforgettable.

Not only have Riley Green's American fans been observing the Fourth of July this weekend, but they will also be celebrating this amazing news.

Green, who is currently embarking on his Cowboy As It Gets Tour around the United States and Canada, announced via Instagram that a new song, "Go Again," featuring Hannah McFarland, is finally out on streaming platforms. McFarland, who is also a rising country singer, is one of the supporting acts for Green's ongoing tour.

On Thursday, Green shared a snippet of the song on his Instagram, announcing that it will be out "tonight at midnight." McFarland immediately commented, "Trying to play it cool rn but finding it difficult."

In another post, McFarland also wrote, "I get to celebrate America and a song release in the same weekend? What dreams are made of really."

"Go Again" is a slow-burning country duet about the push-and-pull of knowing it's time to say goodbye, but wanting to stay for just one more moment. It explores the lingering vulnerability of two people who don't have time to fall in love but can't resist each other. The song will be the fourth track out of 18 for Green's upcoming album, That's Just Me, which is set to be released on Sept. 18. Two other singles, "My Way" and "Think As You Drunk," were released earlier this year.

According to a press release, That's Just Me was "written and recorded during a pivotal year in Green’s life and in the midst of the biggest tour of his career to date."

"That’s Just Me is a deeply personal multi-faceted body of work that captures the many sides of the country singer as both an artist and songwriter," Green wrote. The album was produced by Dann Huff, and the project "explores everything from fleeting love and lingering heartbreak to beachy escapism and country pride in his plainspoken, lived-in style."

The 37-year-old musician grew up in Alabama and played football at Jacksonville State University, but dropped out two years later to pursue a music career. Green started off playing local shows around Alabama and the South before dropping his debut single, "There Was This Girl," which received positive reviews from country critics and achieved commercial success. It even peaked across several country music charts, including No. 1 on Billboard's Country Airplay in April 2019.

The musician has had multple of his songs (as a solo artist or as a collaborator) top various mainstream and country charts, including "Don't Mind If I Do" and "you look like you love me," both collaborations with Ella Langley, as well as "Worst Way," which is featured in his EP Way Out Here and his most recent album, Don't Mind If I Do.

Green described his success to Billboard as "accidental," with the publication writing it as "his humble Southern way of saying he simply put in the work the old-fashioned way."

"I didn’t do anything better than anybody else,” he said. "[People] just came to my shows and streamed my music to where people in Nashville were like, ‘Holy hell, take a look at this.'"

Green has been on his Cowboy As It Gets Tour since April 2026, and the next leg will start up again next Thursday, where he will be performing at the Country Concert festival in Ohio. In addition, he has set to have concerts in various states, including Utah, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maine, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and more, all the way up until the end of the year. Opening acts supporting his tour include McFarland, Clint Black, Drake White, Mackenzie Carpenter, Adam Hood, Zach John King, Randy Houser and Kashus Culpepper.

Festival appearances this summer include Sunfest Country, the Great Jones County Fair, Jiffy Lube Live, St. Pete Country Fest, Rock the Country and Country Jam USA.

"Go Again (featuring Hannah McFarland)" is out now on all streaming platforms. Tickets for his ongoing tour can be found on Green's official website, and his fourth studio album, That's Just Me, will be out on Sept. 18.

One of the biggest hits of the 1980s in the U.K. was a song from a new wave band called Frankie Goes to Hollywood, a group formed in 1980. The track in question, "Two Tribes," is an anti-war song centered around a continuous bass line and moody vocals. It features lyrics like, "When two tribes go to war/ A point is all you can score."

"Two Tribes" came out on June 4, 1984, as a single and was released as part of the album Welcome to the Pleasuredome later the same year. It was instantly a huge success in the United Kingdom, topping the U.K. Singles chart and holding the position for nine weeks. By the end of the 1980s, "Two Tribes" was still the longest-running No. 1 song of the decade. Even now, "Two Tribes" remains one of the top 50 best-selling songs in U.K. history.

During the song's long chart run, another of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's hits, "Relax," climbed the charts again after being No. 1 for weeks at the start of 1984. It eventually reached No. 2.

"Two Tribes" was also a hit in other countries, topping charts in Germany (West Germany at the time), New Zealand, the Netherlands, Ireland, Greece, and Belgium. But even with such extreme success for "Two Tribes" overseas, it didn't exactly translate over to America.

"Two Tribes" charted on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984, but its peak wasn't even in the Top 40. The highest it got was No. 43. Meanwhile, "Relax" peaked at No. 10 earlier in the year. It's a wonder why "Two Tribes" didn't resonate with American audiences as much as U.K. fans.

But in the end, because of the combo of hits with "Relax" and "Two Tribes," Frankie Goes to Hollywood earned a Grammy nomination in 1985 for Best New Artist.
