Ming, a 7-year-old orange cat, was surrendered to a Connecticut shelter called Little Guild, and has been snuggled up with the shoes in his kennel ever since.

"He doesn't understand why he's here. He doesn't know what he did wrong. But despite the confusion and heartbreak, Ming remains the sweetest, most loving boy," says the caption on the video. "He'll lean into every gentle pet, purr softly as you stroke his fur, and simply relax in your presence—grateful for any kindness shown his way."

Sure enough, the video shows all the times Ming has cuddled with the shoes. Is anyone else crying, or just me?

As of July 30, Ming is still available for adoption, and his description makes him sound like an absolute dream of a cat.

"Whether he’s birdwatching, enjoying the sunshine, or simply relaxing, he’s content to take life at his own peaceful pace," it says. "He would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a calm, affectionate cat to share quiet moments with."

Whoever ends up adopting Ming is going to be very lucky to add such a sweet member to their family.

How to Help a Surrendered Cat Feel Safe Again

When bringing home any shelter cat, there's definitely going to be an adjustment period. But if the cat you adopted was surrendered by their former family, they may also struggle with trusting humans again.

This means you'll want to take things very slow, as Pet Haven points out. You'll want to be very patient with them as they suss out their new home (and people), and let them come to you. If they want to hide, that's okay. They'll come out and socialize when they're ready!

Giving them their own space to retreat to can go a long way, too. You can also consider starting them out with access to just one room in your home for the first few days, which can feel less overwhelming.

Provide them with all the basics like a litter box and food and water, and don't forget toys, a scratching post, and a comfy bed (or maybe even a blanket). Then, when they start exploring the rest of the house, they'll have familiar smelling items in the new rooms that will make them feel more secure.

It may take some time, but your effort will pay off when you get to see your cat feeling comfortable and loved in their new surroundings.

As Sally Grottini, a training obedience and behavioral expert at JustAnswer, explains, a standard blanket can easily move during transport, ending up bunched to the side or on the floor. Most importantly, blankets can't create a sufficient barrier between the elements and your seats. Everything from mud to sand can penetrate blankets and make its way into your seats, where it's much harder to remove. 

Why Sand and Mud Hurt Your Car's Resale Value

That fine layer of beach sand might seem harmless, but it's doing more damage than you'd think. Sand grains are abrasive, and every time you sit down or brush against the seams of your seat, they act like sandpaper, grinding away at stitching and fabric with every trip. Mud brings its own set of problems, and they're arguably worse. Because it holds onto moisture, mud creates the ideal environment for mold, mildew and lingering odors to take hold, and over time it can even work its way down into the foam padding underneath the upholstery.

This kind of wear doesn't just affect how your car looks; it also affects what it's worth. "Grains of sand are very abrasive," Parham Koukia, lead car detailer at Panda Hub, explains. How to Wash and Clean Wet Sand and Mud Out of Your Seat Cover

Niall Harbison is always on call with his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo. The animal advocate saves countless street dogs on a regular basis and often rehabilitates seriously ill or injured canines back to health.

Harbison often names the dogs he rescues after celebrities, and now calls this 6-month-old Husky after film star Timothée Chalamet. The sweet puppy was rescued from horrific conditions and needs a great deal of healing.

The Instagram video from @wearehappydoggo shared how Harbison and his team were brought in to save Timothée, who had never experienced freedom.

"Six months old and he has spent his entire life locked in a tiny cage," the on-screen text shared as Timothée was finally rescued from a small, box-like cage. He immediately wagged his tail when Harbison showed him affection. "He doesn't know what it's like to run or play."

Harbison assumed once they got the Husky out of the barbaric cage, the precious pooch could immediately begin his new life. The rescue founder soon discovered that Timothée needed more than just his freedom.

Timothée's Legs Didn't Grow Correctly

Once the sweet Husky was brought back to the Happy Doggo sanctuary, Harbison knew there was something seriously wrong.

"His back legs are totally bent and weak," the caption explained. "He basically has zero muscle from being trapped in such a small space for so long. He can barely walk."

Any time Timothée tried to stand or walk, he stumbled and couldn't straighten his legs. When he was able to walk, his back legs were still completely crooked. Harbison attributes the impairment to the fur baby's abusive living conditions.

"Confined for six months, his back legs never grew properly," the on-screen text noted.

Timothée is now staying at the Happy Doggo rescue and getting the love and care he needs. Harbison and his team are committed to the precious pooch's recovery.

"Instead of just finding him a home, Timothée needs some major rehab to fix his legs so he can actually run around and be a puppy again," the caption shared, with the on-screen text concluding, "His life is just beginning."

Harbison launched Happy Doggo in 2021. In addition to the sterilization and daily feeding of thousands of street dogs, he recently opened a full-service medical clinic in honor of his beloved Golden Retriever, Tina, and a retirement village for senior dogs.

Turns out, for a breed known as "Velcro dogs," five minutes might genuinely feel like an eternity to a sweet Frenchie puppy.

Why French Bulldogs Are Known as "Velcro Dogs"

According to Frenchie Shop, French Bulldogs are just hardwired to want to be near their people, way more than a lot of other breeds of dogs. While plenty of dogs are happy doing their own thing, Frenchies would rather be wherever their person is. That's basically the whole reason people call them "Velcro dogs." Walk into another room, and don't be surprised if your Frenchie's right there behind or underneath you. As a Frenchie mom, I can attest to the fact that they love you so much, they become fall hazards to the people they care about the most. 

That closeness isn't random at all. These dogs get seriously attached to their humans. Frenchie Shop points out that Frenchies build strong emotional bonds and often seem to pick up on their person's mental and physical state, showing up for comfort or company right when it's needed the most. It's part of why so many owners say it feels less like having a pet and more like having a devoted little shadow-or an obsessed toddler.

Is that much clinginess something to worry about? Not really. These dogs don't do great being left alone for long stretches of time, and bringing them along on outings tends to make them a lot happier. Wanting attention isn't a red flag; it's basically built into their DNA. It's really only an issue if being alone seems to genuinely stress them out, and that's a good reason to check in with a vet if it ever comes up.

Day to day, it's really about finding a balance. Giving a Velcro dog plenty of attention while also building in a little independent time, maybe a cozy spot to relax nearby you, some solo playtime here and there, can help them feel secure without needing to be attached at the hip every second of every day.

How to Safely Introduce a Puppy to Swimming

Not every dog is a natural swimmer, so it’s important to make sure your puppy is comfortable in water before letting them get into a pool or a lake. There are a few things dog parents can do to safely introduce their puppy to swimming to make the experience pleasant and successful.

Donna’s mom is doing the right thing by easing her into it and getting her comfortable in the kiddie pool first. Your puppy’s first experience in water should be shallow, warm water to make them as comfortable and safe as possible. Additionally, holding onto your pup as they paddle and splash in the water is a great way for them to learn the motions of swimming in a controlled manner.

Floaties and lifejackets are a good investment when teaching dogs to swim. Puppies won’t know how to tread water yet, and these prevent your puppy from possible drownings while still learning how to paddle. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes so dog parents can find one that works best for their pup.

Consistency is key. Dog parents should take their puppies swimming semi-frequently so they can continue to build upon the skills they are learning. Providing treats for positive re-enforcement also helps the puppy learn to associate water and swimming with positive experiences.

Rottweilers have webbed paws, making them natural swimmers. Still, Donna’s mom isn’t taking any risks and is keeping her puppy safe in the water while she’s learning to swim.

As for when you should socialize your dog, according to IERE, the best time is when a puppy is between 3 and 16 weeks old, because at that age, they will be the most open to meeting new dogs.

This is also the period when a young pup will find that positive interactions with other dogs will make the biggest impression on them.

Gelato the kitten couldn't stand or walk on his own. He was also just too small for any of the wheelchairs the shelter already had on hand. So someone built him one from scratch.

When Gelato arrived at Cincinnati Animal CARE as a foster kitten, he immediately needed help getting around. Lead veterinary technician Mallory Smith didn't wait around for the perfect fix to appear. She put together a mobility device using cardboard, rulers, Hot Wheels, and tape- whatever worked to get him moving.

The shelter shared Smith's DIY creation online, and Gelato's story went viral. People fell for the scrappy little wheelchair, and the kitten was determined enough to use it. That attention led to something even bigger.

Cincinnati Animal CARE recently shared an update, and the excitement is evident in the caption: "GELATO HAS NEW WHEELS!!"

How Mobility Devices Help Pets With Disabilities Live Full Lives

Gelato's story is a good reminder that a disability doesn't mean a pet's life is over. It just means their needs look a little different.

According to Best for Pet, pets can sometimes deal with both physical and sensory disabilities, and mobility challenges like Gelato's- things like spinal injuries, paralysis, arthritis, and neurological disorders- are some of the most common. Limb deformities and amputations happen a lot too, whether from injury, infection, cancer, or something a pet was simply born with.

The encouraging part is how well animals actually adapt. Pets don't sit around dwelling on what they've lost. They lean into whatever senses and abilities they've got and figure out how to keep going, usually faster than their humans expect. A pet who's lost their vision still finds their way around a familiar home. A pet on three legs, or rolling around in a wheelchair like Gelato's, still wants to run, play, and be part of everything happening around them.

That's exactly where the right support makes the difference. Wheelchairs and carts help pets with missing or weak limbs remain active and mobile. Harnesses and slings help with balance or getting in and out of a car. Even small stuff like ramps, non-slip mats, and keeping walkways clear can make a home a lot easier to get around. A veterinarian is always the best place to start when figuring out what a pet actually needs, since those needs can change over time as they adjust.

Gelato doesn’t need to be just like other kittens. He just needed the right wheels. Now he's got them, thanks to one vet tech who showed up and tried to help, and an entire community that showed up after.

Blu and Bosco are two adorable Boxers, and lately they've been all over TikTok for something small they do all the time without even realizing they're doing it: licking each other's faces and ears like it's a pup cup.

Their person posted the clip with a caption that's stuck with a lot of pup parents: "Some bonds don't need words. Watching these two become best friends has been one of my favorite things." Beneath that, a more detailed explanation: "I learned that bonded dogs often lick each other's faces and ears. It's not just grooming, it's love. Their quiet way of saying, 'No matter what, we're a team.'"

Watch the footage, and you'll see what she means. There's nothing frantic about it. One dog works over an ear, moves to a cheek, comes back around, unhurried the entire time, like there's nowhere else either of them needs to be.

People in the comments recognized it instantly.

"My 'twin' pups do this to each other toooo it's so sweet 😭" wrote one person.

Another added, "Boxers love with their entire soul ♥️"

Someone else wondered if this explained a habit of their own: "Is this why both of mine lick my face all the time like they're starving for meeeee 🥹."

And then, buried a little further down, a comment that changes the whole tone of the thread. A woman wrote that her male Boxer used to do this exact thing to her dog Noodle. "Minutes before she passed, he walked over and licked her whole face. We were all sobbing."

Suddenly this isn't just a cute clip anymore. It's a dog doing the one thing he knew how to say, right when it mattered most.

Why Bonded Dogs Lick and Groom Each Other's Faces

So what's actually going on when two dogs do this? According to Woof, this behavior traces back to how dogs lived long before they were anyone's pet. Pack animals licked each other constantly, partly to stay bonded as a group, partly because it's just what kept life running smoothly. Domestic dogs never really lost that wiring.

There's also a social hierarchy element buried in there. A dog licking another dog's face can be a small gesture of respect, a way of saying "I know where I stand with you," which sounds almost formal until you remember it's happening between two animals who are just trying to get along in the world.

It's not purely emotional, either. Grooming another dog helps get rid of dirt they can't reach on their own, so there's a practical reason for all this affection. And because dogs experience the world so heavily through smell, a lick can tell them things a human would never notice: mood, stress, even what the other dog has been doing all day.

Woof also points back to puppyhood as the root of it. Puppies lick their mothers' faces to trigger regurgitation, an old feeding behavior that has nothing to do with adult dogs anymore but somehow never fully disappears. It just turns into something else: connection, instead of dinner.

One caveat worth knowing: if a dog starts licking obsessively, to the point of irritating skin or seeming anxious rather than affectionate, that's a different situation, and probably one for a vet rather than a TikTok comment section.

None of that seems to apply here, though. Whatever's going on between Blu and Bosco looks like exactly what their person called it: two dogs telling each other, without a single word, that they're not going anywhere.

Is there anything more classic than taking a swim in the lake during the summer? While lake swimming is depicted everywhere as the ultimate summer experience, there's more to the activity that pet parents need to be aware of before letting their furry friends join in on the action. 

Unlike pools, lakes don't undergo the same type of cleaning. While this means no chemicals to be wary of, it also means that it's the perfect breeding ground for other types of harmful bacteria. One of those is blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria. Toxins like blue-green algae can be lethal to dogs, and need to be on every pet parent's radar if they're headed to the lake this season.

Even if you aren't an expert in algae, being familiar with it can be the difference between a healthy pup and a medical emergency. Just as with any other dog toxin, it can be difficult to know whether or not your furry friend has ingested it, making it critical that pet parents also know the different symptoms a dog can express afterward. 

Although lake swimming can seem like a harmless summer experience that the whole family can enjoy, it doesn't mean you can let your guard down with your canine companions. In the end, the goal is to enjoy your summer with your dogs without any issues and with plenty of fond memories.

What Is Blue-Green Algae (and Why Is It So Deadly to Dogs)?

Blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria, is a type of bacterium that can produce toxins lethal to dogs. According to Dr. Jo Myers, DVM, a veterinary adviser at Vetster, blue-green algae blooms are common during the summer months, in warm climates, and when water temperatures rise or nitrogen levels increase. 

Dr. Myers points out that this bacterium can produce a toxin found to be life-threatening to dogs, especially hunting dogs that are more likely to enter waterways at dangerous levels in areas like industrial and farmland. Although hunting dogs have a higher risk, all dogs are at risk with this algae around. 

How to Spot a Toxic Algae Bloom at the Lake

Being able to spot a toxic algae bloom is key if you want to avoid having your dog accidentally contaminated by it while at the lake. However, it may not be as easy as taking a look around.

"Blue-green algae may look swollen or still with visible algae blooms on the surface, but the appearance alone isn't a reliable indicator," Dr. Myers explains. "The algae contamination is not always obvious. It's safest to avoid bodies of water where contamination is known or suspected and keep dogs supervised and on a leash around unfamiliar water."

If you're unfamiliar with the area you are visiting, it is worth doing your research beforehand on any potential testing that may have been done for toxic algae. 

Why Swimming in an Algae Bloom Is Just as Dangerous for Dogs as Drinking It

Although drinking water with an algae bloom is the most direct way for a dog to ingest the toxin, swimming in it can be just as lethal. Dr. Myers explains that even just contact with algae-contaminated water can lead to ingestion of the toxin. The best way to prevent your canine from potentially ingesting the toxin is by preventing their access to affected lakes, ponds, or other standing water.

Critical Symptoms of Cyanobacteria Poisoning to Watch For

Prevention is the best way to avoid poisoning; however, accidents can happen. If you're unsure whether your dog has ingested algae-contaminated water, there are symptoms you can look out for. Dr. Myers explains that early warning signs may include "vomiting, diarrhea, collapse, muscle tremors, seizures, low energy, reduced appetite, and loss of consciousness."

These symptoms can occur within five to 20 minutes of ingestion and can progress quickly after. If your dog is exhibiting any of these symptoms, it's important to seek medical care immediately. 

What to Do If Your Dog Touches Toxic Water

The best course of action if your dog touches toxic water is to take them to seek veterinary care immediately. Time is of the essence in this situation, and it's best to have them receive medical attention to offer them the best chance at recovery. Symptoms can develop rapidly, and your dog's health can deteriorate almost immediately, making it crucial that you get them to the vet as soon as possible. 

How to Check Lake Safety Alerts Before Taking Your Dog

The best way to avoid cyanobacteria poisoning in your dog is by avoiding contaminated areas altogether. Checking the lake's city page or parks and recreation page is the best way to stay informed on any safety alerts in the area. 

Dr. Myers also recommends keeping a watchful eye on your dog's off-leash activities and keeping them on a leash if you're wandering near potential containment areas. 

Other Safe Lake Habits to Protect Your Dog This Summer

While contamination of algae is likely to happen at a lake or still body of water, it doesn't mean it's exclusive to these areas. Dr. Myers points out that exposure can occur in any size body of water, including buckets and troughs. Pet parents should stay vigilant during the summer and in warmer climates, as well as stay aware of any rising hazards before they can affect your furry friend.

There's nothing quite like going out for a swim in nature with your furry friend. However, that doesn't mean pet parents can completely disregard their dog's safety and health risks. Doing a quick search beforehand can help you stay aware of any potential toxins in the area before you arrive at the lake, because both you and your pup deserve to enjoy the summer with ease and tranquility.

The TikTok from @sharing.lov3 told Nova's story and how she was found abandoned with an injury.

Nova is currently being treated for some skin allergies that should soon heal. The friendly fur baby has a gentle spirit and is a total love bug to everyone she meets.

"She can be a little shy at first, and honestly, that’s understandable after everything she’s been through," the post described. You may wonder how water qualifies as enrichment for an otter, since most of them spend a lot of time in it. However, while Asian small-clawed otters enjoy a good swim and live near water, they spend the majority of their time on land. In fact, they spend the most time on land of all otter species. So for them, playing with running water from a hose is the perfect form of enrichment.

In a video from Perth Zoo in Western Australia, one of the otters is holding its paws under a stream of water from a hose and is absolutely thrilled to pieces. The otter brings its hand in a nd out from the stream, even ducking its head close like it was going to take a sip. Of course, the stream coming from the hose is probably too strong for the little guy to drink from, but I don't blame him for trying.

The little otter seems content to keep putting his tiny paws under the water while it splashes into the bucket beneath him. One fan asked the zoo in the comments if the otter likes it for the sound or for the movement. The zoo responded, "Asian Small-clawed Otters are very playful and love the water! You'll often spot them playing with sticks, pebbles, or even water!"

It sounds like these little guys are pretty easy to entertain. Another fan writes, "All he wants is some water...adorable!!" His simplistic needs are pretty cute, especially since he seems so happy.

Asian Small-clawed Otter Facts

Currently, two Asian small-clawed otters live at the Perth Zoo: Saati and Squid. The video isn't clear about which one it features, but something tells me both of them would likely have the same reaction to the water. On top of being the otters that spend the most time on land, they are also the smallest.

They weigh less than 10 pounds and are only around two feet long. Of those 24 inches, around 10 to 14 inches are their tails. According to the Smithsonian's National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute, they can live up to 12 years or more in captivity. Some have even lived over 20.

They are very vocal and live in groups of 15 or more in the wild. However, they hunt on their own. Perth Zoo has a small grouping, but Saati is participating in one of the local breeding programs. Wild Asian small-clawed otters are listed as a vulnerable species. It is hard for researchers to get a solid count of the animals since they tend to hide. However, their population is estimated to have dropped by at least 30 percent in the last 30 years.
