I am endlessly fascinated by the way a cat’s fur can look completely different depending on the light. You think you know exactly what color your cat is, and then they sit in one particularly sunny window and suddenly reveal an entire secret color palette they’ve apparently been hiding from you.

One ridiculously fluffy black Maine Coon kitten is the perfect example. He looks like an adorable little black dust bunny until the sunlight hits his coat and reveals warm, almost orange tips throughout his fur. It’s like someone rolled him through a bowl of cinnamon and then sent him on his way.

The precious video was shared by the TikTok account for @mossycottagemainecoons, and it shows the kitten being held in front of a sunny window, which gives us a perfect look at his spectacular coat. He’s already got that trademark Maine Coon floof going on, but it’s the warm color appearing in the sunlight that makes him especially gorgeous.

Apparently, I’m not the only person mesmerized by it.

“Amazing fur,” one person commented.

“What a beautiful little fluff ball,” wrote another.

Someone else knew exactly what we were seeing, writing, “I love when black fur looks brown in the sun.”

And another person summed him up perfectly: “He is absolutely stunning.”

He really is. I also desperately want to fluff up all that fur with my hands, although whether he’d actually permit me to do that is another matter entirely.

Maine Coons have a reputation for being affectionate, social cats, but personality always depends on the individual animal. Getting a Maine Coon doesn’t automatically guarantee you’ll have a giant furry cat attached to your lap 24 hours a day.

I have a Maine Coon named Meatball, and he’s incredibly affectionate on his terms. If Meatball comes up to me because he’s decided it’s time for attention, he is an absolute purring love bunny. He’ll happily soak up all the affection.

If I decide I’d like to pet Meatball, however?

Sometimes he simply ignores me.

It’s a pretty great arrangement for Meatball.

Many Maine Coons enjoy being around their families even when they aren’t actively cuddling. You may find one following you from room to room, hanging out nearby, or supervising whatever you’re doing without necessarily climbing into your lap.

And considering how enormous Maine Coons can become, perhaps it’s a good thing they don’t all insist on being lap cats.

This gorgeous little cinnamon dust bunny is still a kitten, so his personality and appearance will continue developing as he grows. But between that magnificent floof and those warm tips glowing in the sunlight, he’s already got the stunning Maine Coon look completely figured out.

I love seeing my dogs sleep. My senior Dachshund burrows into her fluffy comforter and pillows for that “just right” nestled position and exudes a total zen vibe as soon as she dozes off. Her Pug brother is more of a sprawler and believes in taking up as much space as possible, regardless of whether or not anyone else needs room. As soon as he hits that REM zone, he’s starts “talking” in his sleep and it’s adorable.

Reef the Golden Retriever is definitely a snuggler when he goes down for a nap and resembles a super-soft stuffed animal you just want to squeeze.

In the TikTok from @reefthegolden_, the precious pooch was taking his midday siesta on the couch. Reef’s head was perfectly placed on a pillow while his body gently folded into a sort of half-circle. The gorgeous Golden’s thick and luxurious fur almost seemed like it was produced in a toy factory, making him look like a pillowy plushie.

“The babiest little bear I’ve ever seen,” the on-screen text noted.

Followers fell in love with the fur baby and pointed out his extra cozy position:

Everyone raves about caramel apples. I like them as much as the next girl, but if you ask me, candy apples aren’t getting enough love. I love the crunchy coating, the sweetness it gives the apple without being too sweet, and that iconic red color.

Stan the Golden Retriever starts out the video at just 8 weeks old, and it progresses to show him up to 8 months old, which is where he is now. There are a few noteworthy things about that:

• He’s doubled in size, if not more.
• He’s lost his puppy fluff: now, he’s settling into his adult coat.
• His beautiful red fur has gotten much deeper.

This candy apple boy is living his best life. He gets pretty much whatever he wants, whenever he wants it. His mom can’t say no to him! Even when he’s being a little bit evil, which is pretty standard for him, he’s cute enough to get out of trouble immediately.

What Makes Red Golden Retrievers Different?

Stan is a stunning Red Golden Retriever. This color variation is not something you see every day, but it is very special. Essentially, this color is just a deeper version of the standard Golden, while the English Cream Golden Retriever is the breed’s lighter variation.

Red Golden Retrievers differ from standard Goldens in color and, sometimes, they’re leaner and a little more athletic. With their fuzzy coats, dark eyes and small black noses, Sammies are about as dessert-like as dogs get. There’s a reason the comparison between a Samoyed and ice cream is so easy to make and it’s not just due to their fluffy white coats. In fact, as Loverseed explains, their compact bodies as puppies also adds to the resemblance, especially when there are several together in one place.

“I can definitely see the comparison of a Samoyed’s coat to vanilla ice cream,” reveals Loverseed. “A young Samoyed has this pale, fluffy puppy coat and can tuck itself into a surprisingly compact little ball. When several puppies curl up together in a bed, you almost lose where one finishes and the next begins. They look like someone has put a few scoops of vanilla ice cream in a bowl and added little black noses and eyes.”

And that cloud-like fluff can make this puppy breed look even more like little scoops of ice cream. “The fluff also makes them look rounder and bigger than the dog underneath. As a rough guide, the Samoyed Club of America puts them at about 10 pounds at eight weeks and 15 pounds at ten weeks, although that can vary between individual puppies and family lines. Not every Samoyed is bright white, either. Cream, biscuit and white-and-biscuit are also recognised colours, so some are probably closer to French vanilla.”

That soft-serve fluff may be what makes Samoyeds look like little scoops of vanilla, but keeping their coat looking its best takes some work, especially as they get bigger. In fact, as your Sammie grows, it will transform into a much thicker double coat, making regular grooming sessions even more important.

“As a Samoyed matures, it develops a substantial double coat: a dense, woolly undercoat with longer, coarser guard hairs over it. While it is a beautiful coat, it is not a low-maintenance one,” Loverseed explains.

Because of that, pet parents should get their furbabies comfortable with being groomed and having their coats touched from an early age. “I would begin grooming practice straight away, while their puppy coat is still easy to manage,” he sugguests. “Start by touching their paws, lifting their tail and giving their coat a few brush strokes, then rewarding them .Doing this for a minute each day is far better than doing nothing for weeks and then expecting a young dog to tolerate a huge grooming session once their coat gets tangled.”

As a Samoyed’s coat gets thicker, regular brushing becomes even more important. “Pet parents need to brush through their coat rather than simply making their fluffy surface look tidy,” Loverseed shares. “To do this, it’s best to work in sections, get down to their undercoat and check their coat with a comb.”

With all that luxurious fur, it can be tempting to focus only on keeping the surface looking pristine. But don’t forget about the spots that are easy to miss. Loverseed notes that dog moms and dads shouldn’t just focus on their Samoyed’s back and stomach while brushing. Areas like behind their ears, under their front legs and around their back end can be easy to overlook, but they can also become matted if they aren’t properly cared for.

What Are Samoyed Like as Pets? A friendly Samoyed being affectionate.

A Sammie’s good looks may be what first catches your eye, but there’s much more to them than their gorgeous appearance. In fact, they are also beloved companions and have a strong desire to be part of a person’s family once welcomed into a home.

“Samoyeds are social, playful, clever and often a little bit mischievous,” Loverseed says. “They can also be vocal, and they generally want to be involved in whatever the family is doing. Underneath the fluffy white coat is a proper working dog, not a decoration. The best owner for them is someone who wants an active, involved companion and is prepared to put time into training, exercise, mental stimulation and coat care.”

As a result, Samoyeds aren’t just cute to look at. They’re lively, social family members who thrive when they have plenty to do and plenty of time with the people they love. Therefore, they don’t just look like ice cream, but they are as sweet as ice cream as well, thanks to their personality!

There’s often a specific kind of dread that lives in a dental waiting room. And sometimes, that anxiety can take hold even before a visit, resulting in a postponed or canceled appointment. At one dental practice, however, there’s a Lab named Annie working on that problem, and judging by the following video on TikTok, she’s very good at her job.

Annie is a therapy dog, and her role is more valuable than simply being adorable, though she handles that part beautifully. She greets patients as they arrive, hangs out with them in the waiting room, and if invited, will go so far as to settle into their laps during their appointment. Annie’s presence is folded into the appointment and gives a patient something to focus on and squeeze if needed. She isn’t a mascot or a novelty — she’s a working part of how this office delivers care, and we want in!

Fans of Annie (and her dentists) wholeheartedly agree.

One commenter declares, “That’s it, I’m changing dentists. If they don’t have a dog, I’m not coming!”

“I’m a full adult paying taxes, and I need this,” admits another viewer.

And not only would another person “prob stop canceling and rescheduling,” a different fan claims she “would go to the dentist more often” if Annie was part of the experience.

How Dogs Can Help Patient Anxiety

A dog in the room gives a patient’s nervous system something else to do. One small 2019 pilot study found patients’ blood pressure dropped when a therapy dog sat with them. And this form of distraction is everything: instead of tracking every sound off the instrument tray, the person in the chair is scratching behind a pair of ears — and that small redirection is often enough to keep a manageable appointment from becoming a miserable one. The simple act of petting a dog also triggers the release of oxytocin, a hormone associated with bonding and relaxation. 

Kids feel dental anxiety the most. A dental office is a strange place when you’re small, and a dog is the one familiar thing in it. A child who associates the dentist with a sweet Lab instead of a drill is a child who keeps showing up.

Dogs like Annie help the staff, too. Absorbing other people’s fear all day is exhausting, and an office dog is as much for them as for their patients. One practice cites employee morale as another benefit of having a therapy dog in the office. Happier, engaged staff certainly benefit patients and can go a long way toward easing anxiety for everyone.

One thing all senior pup parents need to know is that the changing of the seasons can be difficult for senior dogs, especially the transition from summer to fall. Fall weather has a tendency to hit seniors harder than younger pups, and knowing how to prepare them for a successful seasonal transition is key for their health and wellbeing.

Why Fall Weather Hits Seniors Harder

“Fall weather is tough on senior dogs for two big reasons: pressure and insulation,” Dr. Javaid says. “When temperatures dip, joint fluid thickens and inflamed tissue expands. The result? Sudden, severe morning stiffness. Throw in the fact that aging pups lose the muscle and fat layers that keep them warm, and chilly autumn mornings quickly turn miserable for them.”

Dr. Halligan agrees. “Senior dogs don’t adapt to environmental changes as easily as they did when they were younger. They have less muscle mass, thinner skin, and often some arthritis or heart/respiratory changes,” she says.

Dr. Halligan also adds that routine changes can also contribute to stress. “The days get shorter, walks may happen at different times, families go back to school or work, and an older dog who thrives on predictability can have a harder time adjusting,” she says.

4 Subtle Signs You’re Missing (That Actually Indicate Pain)

Knowing whether your senior pup is in pain can be hard to spot, which is why knowing the signs is imperative as a senior dog parent. “Chronic pain in dogs is silent. Instead of yelping, they change their behavior,” Dr. Javaid explains.

Below are some subtle signs that may indicate pain in senior dogs.

1. Movement hesitation

Both Dr. Javaid and Dr. Halligan say that pausing at stairs, car doors or slick floors may indicate pain.

2. Targeted licking

Dr. Javaid says that obsessively cleaning their wrists, lower back or ankles to soothe inflammation is a red flag of pain.

3. Restlessness

Dr. Javaid says that restlessness may include constantly shifting positions while resting or even sleeping with a roached (curved or arched) back.

4. Changes in personality or interaction

“A dog in pain may become quieter, irritable, less interested in being touched or may suddenly prefer to be alone,” Dr. Halligan says.

The 3-Step Fall Prep Plan for an Aging Dog

“Little changes can make an enormous difference to an arthritic senior dog,” Dr. Halligan says. Here’s how to prep your senior pup for the fall season ahead.

1. Schedule a senior wellness visit if your dog is due for one.

“Senior dogs benefit from regular examinations, and your veterinarian may recommend bloodwork and urine testing depending on the dog’s age and health,” Dr. Halligan says. “This is a great opportunity to discuss mobility, weight, dental health, vision, hearing and any behavioral changes you’ve noticed.”

Adjusting their joint plan early is also a good idea at this appointment. “Don’t wait for cold weather stiffness to set in,” Dr. Javaid says. “Talk to your vet about starting omega-3s, glucosamine or anti-inflammatories ahead of time.”

2. Fix household slip hazards.

“Place runner rugs on hardwood floors so they don’t slide, and pull their bed out of drafty corners,” Dr. Javaid says.

3. Walk during peak sunlight.

“Daytime walks protect fading muscle mass and reinforce natural sleep cycles without risking overexertion,” Dr. Javaid explains.

How Less Daylight Causes Canine Confusion

“Fewer daylight hours in the fall do more than just change the schedule. They disrupt a senior dog’s body clock,” Dr. Javaid says. “This sudden seasonal shift triggers brain chemistry changes that hit dogs with cognitive dysfunction hard. If your older dog starts pacing the hallway, whining at nightfall or staring at empty corners as the sun goes down, that reduced autumn light is likely the culprit.”

Normal Aging vs. Medical Red Flag: When to Call the Vet

“How do you tell aging apart from a real medical issue? Speed,” Dr. Javaid explains. “Normal aging is gradual, a slightly slower pace on walks or taking extra time to stand up. Red flags happen fast and out of the blue.”

Dr. Javaid recommends bringing your senior dog to the vet if they experience any of the following signs:

• Sudden loss of mobility or balance
• Rapid weight loss or sudden incontinence
• Wandering around confused or getting stuck behind doors
• Unexplained restlessness, pacing or sudden aggression

With these tips in mind, you’re now ready to help your senior dog transition into fall.

If you have an anxious indoor cat, their environment might play a role in the restlessness they’re feeling. If your cat isn’t getting enough exercise or mental stimulation, this can fester and lead to anxious or disruptive behaviors. This can include everything from scratching up your nice couch to peeing outside of their litter box and more. Giving them outlets to engage in their natural instincts may help your cat feel more grounded and make them behave a bit better and feel less anxious.

“A stressed and anxious cat can show key avoidance behaviors,” Dr. Foose says. “This includes hiding, hair loss and overgrooming, and disruption of normal litter box habits. 1. Build a “superhighway”

Creating a cat superhighway in your home by making a section of your home dedicated to floating shelves and tall cat trees is one way to engage your cat’s instincts and help them feel safer and happier.

2. Put up a “cat TV” window perch

Give your cat a front-row view to all of the outdoor entertainment with a cat perch that attaches directly to your window. If you can’t find one, you could always move a cat tree closer to the window so they have a better vantage point to watch all the birds and action outside.

3. Create a cozy hideaway

Give you anxious cat some privacy by investing in a cat condo where they can go to escape when they have the urge for some alone time.

4. Install hanging toys

Finally, get some hanging batting toys for your cat to engage their natural hunting instincts. This is both physically and mentally rewarding.

Signs Your Cat Is Desperate for This Environmental Shift

There aren’t certain behaviors that automatically mean a cat needs more stimulation, Dr. Myers says. In fact, things people may interpret as boredom, such as scratching, sleeping a lot, climbing or getting into things, can be perfectly normal feline behaviors.

Instead, Dr. Myers says what matters more is “whether a behavior is excessive, has changed or suggests a cat doesn’t have appropriate outlets for their natural behaviors.”

The ‘Forced Affection’ Mistake You Need to Stop Making Immediately

You may think showering your cat with affection will help them feel more engaged, but sometimes this has the opposite impact.

“Forced affection is when the cat is forced to accept more human interaction than they find comfortable. It should be avoided because it takes away the cat’s right to choose, and will weaken the bond the cat feels with its caretaker,” Dr. Foose says.

It wasn’t that long ago when Cactus, a rescue dog I’ve come to adore, was in tiny Cowboy’s paws. He was brand new to the home, and every experience was an adventure. So, when it came time for the family to introduce the new foster pup to his grassy backyard, Cactus led the way for Cowboy with reassuring “I’ve got you” energy.

As you will see in the following video, Cowboy was hesitant at first; the step down to the ground would require him to literally take the leap. But Cactus showed him it was no biggie, and Cowboy soon followed his new role model with total enthusiasm. Despite the blades of grass standing taller than the brave little boy, Cowboy relished his romp around the yard as well as his newfound friendship with his proud and protective big bro.

TikTok user @amaliaran shared a video of two adorable dogs, one Golden Retriever and a Dachshund, who were both very interested in what was playing on the TV. The Golden Retriever, named Sole, seemed especially interested in what was happening on TV, and we think she very much loves Mickey Mouse.

Can Dogs Understand What They See and Hear on TV? 

This silly Golden loves her TV show, and Mickey is pretty fun to watch. But do dogs really understand what they’re hearing and seeing on the TV? According to Hill’s Pet, experts don’t fully agree, but we do know a few things. 

The site explains that it’s not uncommon for dogs to take an interest in what is playing on TV, but the extent to which they see and understand likely isn’t the same as how we experience television. They explain that a pup needs to be within 2 feet of the TV screen to see what we can see from 6 feet away, and the farther a dog is from the screen, the fuzzier and grainier the image is likely to be.

But we do know that dogs can hear the sounds from the TV and can see the movement on the screen, so there’s definitely an element they understand when watching television. And like Sole, we can see pups respond to what they’re watching on TV, so there must be something they understand and see, right?

Dogs who are surrendered to or never claimed from shelters often plummet into depression. The abandonment along with the stressful environment of a shelter can be overwhelming for canines, causing them to withdraw or isolate themselves. Some lose all interest in human contact, physical activity, and even food.

Rocky the Hound mix was found as a stray and brought to Cobb County Animal Services in mid-August and is literally too sad to eat.

The TikTok from @sharing.lov3 told Rocky’s story and how despite the shelter locating his family, he wasn’t claimed.

“He has lost 7 pounds since he arrived here 2 weeks ago,” the on-screen text shared as Rocky sadly lay in his kennel. “He came in as a stray with an identification, but his family chose not to come for him.”

The precious pooch is despondent and withdrawn, even refusing food or treats due to his extreme sadness.

“Ever since Rocky arrived, he has been struggling here,” the caption explained. “He spends his days curled up in his bed, and recently, he stopped eating. The shelter has been trying to get him to eat by adding wet food to his dry food, but he still wasn’t eating.”

Rocky Needed Extra Help

A shelter staff member knew Rocky was in danger of seriously affecting his health, so she spent some one-on-one time with him and fed him by hand. The act of love and compassion motivated Rocky to get some nourishment.

“I thought maybe if I hand-fed him, he would be willing to eat,” the story continued. “Maybe he just needed to feel loved… So I got a can of wet food and took Rocky into the bonding room. And he ate.”

The 4-year-old hound mix is described as the “sweetest dog” with a gentle nature and heart of gold. The social media post emphasized Rocky’s need for a forever family as soon as possible.

What Determines a Kitten’s Coat Pattern?

So how did this Maine Coon kitten become such a distinguished little gentleman with a white mustache?

To understand this, you need to learn what determines a kitten’s coat pattern.

The pattern is because of pigments, which are driven by genes.

There is eumelanin, which is a pigment that produces black and brown fur, and phaeomelanin, which produces red and yellow.

Black and brown pigment gives us black, brown, chocolate, and cinnamon cats, and phaeomelanin gives us orange and ginger kitties.

As for this kitten’s perfectly placed white spots, this is due to the white spotting (S) gene, which controls melanocyte migration (pigment-producing cells) when the cat is still in the embryo phase.

If they have s/s, then they will display no white spots, but if they have S/s, they will show moderate white spotting, usually on their paws, chest, and belly, according to iere.org.

If they have S/S genes, they will have a significant amount of white spots.

This sweet Maine Coon kitten most likely has the S/s gene since he only has white fur on his mustache and paws.

I will never understand how anyone can intentionally hurt an animal, and this video out of Florida is particularly difficult to watch. A 12-year-old dog named Boomer was reportedly at home when a technician who had been hired to perform HVAC work entered the house. What happened next was captured by the family’s pet camera.

WFLA reports that 43-year-old Richardson Noel was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty after the Sanford Police Department was alerted to footage showing him kicking the elderly dog. Most importantly, Boomer survived, received medical attention and is recovering.

The infuriating clip was shared by the TikTok account for WFLA8, and according to WFLA, a Furbo pet camera captured the incident. The footage shows Noel entering through a sliding door while Boomer barks several feet away. Noel then closes the door, approaches Boomer and kicks him. The dog is knocked unconscious, and the footage later shows the technician nudging him with his foot.

Police said Boomer’s family saw what happened on the camera and contacted authorities.

Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith condemned what happened, saying, “It is deeply disturbing that someone entrusted with entering a person’s home to complete a service would violate that trust by viciously injuring a defenseless animal.”

“The video is difficult to watch and shows the callousness of this individual,” Smith continued.

According to WFLA, Sanford police confirmed that Boomer was alive and had received medical attention when the station asked for an update on his condition.

People commenting on the video shared additional claims about Boomer’s recovery, including that he experienced a seizure following the incident and was initially having trouble eating normally. Those details have not been independently confirmed in the police information cited by WFLA, so they should be treated as reports from commenters rather than official updates.

People were overwhelmingly relieved to hear that Boomer survived:

• “Thank goodness this precious dog is okay,” one person wrote.
• Another was particularly grateful for the technology that captured what happened, writing, “I’m so happy they had a camera.”

If you’re considering a pet camera, start with where you’re going to put it. Ideally, you want a camera with a wide field of view positioned in an area your pet spends a lot of time, particularly if that’s also where contractors, dog walkers, or other visitors may enter the home.

Motion-activated recording is another feature worth considering. Boomer’s family reportedly learned what happened because their Furbo camera captured the incident. A camera that can send activity notifications to your phone can alert you to something happening at home rather than leaving you to discover it hours later.

Look for clear video quality, reliable notifications, and the ability to save or download recordings. Night vision can also be useful if your pet is home alone after dark, while two-way audio lets you hear what’s happening and, depending on the camera, speak through it.

And before allowing a service worker into your home while you’re away, make sure pets are somewhere they will be comfortable and secure whenever possible. Even friendly dogs can become nervous when an unfamiliar person enters their space.

No pet parent expects to open a camera notification and see something like this. In Boomer’s case, however, that little camera provided his family with a record of what happened when they weren’t there.

I’m just incredibly relieved this sweet senior boy survived and is getting the care he deserves.

Meet Milky Way!

Baby alpacas are called crias, and they typically weigh around 16 to 20 pounds when they’re born. Most crias are remarkably quick to get moving and can stand and begin nursing within the first few hours of life.

They’re also born with incredibly soft fleece, although that adorably fuzzy baby coat will change as they grow.

And Milky Way has plenty of growing to do. Adult alpacas can weigh well over 100 pounds, which is difficult to imagine while looking at this tiny wobbly cloud.

For now, though, I’m going to enjoy her fuzzy cotton ball era.

Especially those eyelashes.

After all, while you may know that your dog is sending feel-good vibes your way when they come in for a snuggle or wag their tail in your presence, your dog’s other forms of body language and actions may feel random—to you, at least, and make you think to yourself “Why does my dog do that?” However, your dog knows exactly what they’re trying to say, their messages just aren’t getting across.

Keep in mind that every dog is an individual, so while there are things lots of dogs do when they are expressing their feeling, what one dog does to show how much you mean to them might not be what another dog does. “No single behavior is a guaranteed declaration of love,” explains Molly Jespersen, Camp Bow Wow‘s training specialist. “The best clue is to watch your dog’s whole body and the situation around their behavior.” 

As a result, Shannon Walker, a dog trainer and founder of Northwest Battle Buddies, points out that a dog who looks relaxed when they show off a weird behavior, generally points to them feeling comfortable in your presence. “Dogs are designed to live in a balanced state,” she says. “It is where they are healthiest, where they are happiest, and where they truly thrive.”

So, even though your dog likely has its own eccentricities that make them truly unique, some of their strange behaviors are actually not strange to them and are ways dogs say “I love you.” That’s why trainers suggest being on the lookout for these common, yet sometimes weird, dog behaviors so you can start to notice how much you mean to your pet.

They Gnaw On Your Dirty Socks

Spotting your pooch mouthing your gym socks may make you feel grossed out, and question why your dog does this. So, if you want this strange dog behavior explained, Jespersen says you’ll be happy to know it’s actually a sweet gesture.

“It may seem gross to you, but a dirty sock smells strongly like your dog’s favorite person,” Jespersen reveals. “Carrying it around or curling up beside it can be comforting, especially when you are not home.”

However, this doggy habbit can also be dangerous since swallowing fabric can cause intestinal blockage. Because of that, she recommends calmly trading your sock for a treat or toy instead of trying to chase down your pooch the next time this happens.

They Raise Their Eyebrows at You

It can be a little jarring to look at your dog, only to see them raise their eyebrows at you. But don’t worry, they’re just trying to bond with you.

“Dogs are surprisingly expressive with their faces,” Jespersen says. “A little eyebrow raise can make their eyes look softer and may be their way of checking in or getting your attention. Dogs tend to make more facial expressions when someone is looking at them, so those eyebrow raises can be your dog’s way of connecting with you.”

They Can’t Stop Staring At You

It’s kind of funny when you spot your dog staring at you from across the room. But this is actually an adoring gesture on their part.

“A soft gaze can be one of the sweetest signs that your dog feels connected to you,” Jespersen says. “Relaxed mutual gazing may support bonding between dogs and their people.” The keyword here is “soft,” though. “Gentle eyes, blinking and a relaxed body can signal trust, while a hard stare paired with freezing or stiffness may mean the dog needs space,” Jespersen notes.

They Use You as a Leaning Post

Your dog flopping their bodyweight against yours may seem like a strange thing to do, but to them it’s actually another way they show they care about you, that you may miss as a pet parent.

“There is something profound about a dog that leans their body against yours, or settles themselves onto your foot as if to say, ‘I am exactly where I want to be,’” Walker explains.

Jepson agrees, adding that it shows they have an emotional connection with you. “This gesture says that your dog is looking to you for affection and support,” she explains.

They Act Like Total Drama Queens (Or Kings)

It’s understandable to be curious when your dog lets out a big sigh. But they’re actually not doing it for dramatic effect. So when it comes to weird things dogs do, this action has a pretty cute meaning.

“That big, dramatic sigh may simply mean your dog feels safe enough to let go and relax,” Jespersen says. “If they curl up beside you, soften their eyes and release a long breath, they are likely settling in for a comfortable rest.”

She points out that context matters though as sighing paired with pacing, whining or repeatedly changing positions, could suggest that your pet is stressed or bored. But a sigh paired with relaxed body language is a loving signal. 

They Wipe Their Nose On You

There’s nothing like doggie boogers all over your clothes to signal love. But your dog pushing their nose into you is another way how dogs show affection.

“A gentle nose nudge is a little like your dog tapping you on the arm,” Jespersen says. “They may be asking for petting, inviting you to play or simply making sure they still have your attention.”

She adds that dogs learn fast, so if nudging got your attention in the past, they may keep doing it to feel closer to you.

They Respond to Your Name

Does you dog know your name? It turns out some can learn it and how they react to hearing it can be super heartwarming.

“Your dog may not understand names exactly as people do, but they can learn that a particular sound means someone important,” Jespersen shares. “If your dog perks up when they hear your name, they may associate it with your arrival, your attention or something good happening.”

That reaction shows how closely pets listen to words and routines associated to their favorite people, she says.

A senior dog with a disorder called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) has captured the internet’s heart due to his melting appearance.

Fittingly, his name is Caramel.

Though EDS in dogs is a serious condition, this pup couldn’t be sweeter, and people can’t get enough of him.

What Is EDS in Dogs?

So what exactly is Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in dogs?

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in dogs, or EDS, is a rare inherited condition that negatively impacts a dog’s connective tissue.

As a result, the skin will be extremely loose, stretchy, and delicate.

In some cases with EDS in dogs, their joints will also be affected (quite loose and flexible), and they may bruise more easily than normal.

Dogs with EDS usually start showing symptoms, such as skin that tears easily, skin elasticity, and loose joints, at a young age.

At the moment, there is no cure for EDS, but dog parents can do certain things to help them, including trimming their nails, making sure they don’t have any wounds or sores, providing them with a soft place to sleep, and trying to prevent them from doing any activity that could lead to injury.

Clearly, Caramel’s parents take very good care of him, as he is a happy pup.

Some of the comments on the Caramel dog video featured people saying they also had EDS.

People can also have EDS, and similar to dogs, it affects their joints, skin, and blood vessels.

There are different types of EDS, and the most common one is hypermobile EDS or hEDS.

Celebrities who have EDS include Billie Eilish, Lena Dunham, and Sia.
