Lucky Tuxedo Cat Just Landed a Job as 'Head of Security' at Brooklyn Museum, and His Name Is Perfect
When the Brooklyn Bone Museum was in need of a new head of security, they found the right man...well...cat for the job. Adopted roughly a year ago in June of 2025, the handsome Tuxedo Cat named Bone Jovi stepped up to the job and fans of the museum cat have been hooked on him ever since.
ABC News recently did a spotlight on the museum and Bone, sharing just how he came to work at the Brooklyn institution and more of his heartwarming and unique story.
@abcnewsA cat named "Bone Jovi" has become something of a celebrity as the head of security at Brooklyn’s Bone Museum.
♬ original sound - ABC News - ABC NewsAccording to the museum staff, Bone Jovi—whose named was selected via a poll with more than 20,000 participants—made himself right at home in the museum post-adoption.
Bone Jovi is noted for being incredibly affectionate and vocal, demanding pets and attention in between patrolling the museum. He can also be found in his designated chair at the front desk, observing everything and watching over the museum as is his job.
Museums, libraries, and other public venues have a long history of keeping cats "on staff." Cats were used as pest control, protecting exhibits, and of course, companionship. This is a tradition and legacy Bone is continuing on by being at the Brooklyn Bone Museum.
What Can Visitors See at Brooklyn's Bone Museum? View this post on InstagramBesides providing the opportunity to visit Bone Jovi while he's on duty, the Brooklyn Bone Museum is the home to the largest collection of human osteology that is available for public display in the US. The museum houses hundreds of human and animal skeletal remains, including the largest collection of human spines.
The Brooklyn Bone Museum also has specimens that had rare medical conditions like achondroplasia and gigantism, and an exhibit dedicated to the history of medical bone trade.
According to the museum's website, all of the osteological items contained within the museum’s collection are retired medical specimens from the late 19th and 20th centuries. They were all ethically procured for the collection.
But of course, the main attraction is Bone Jovi himself. And thankfully visitors are absolutely encouraged to stop by just to see Bone. He'll be on duty!

Stress can look different from one dog to another. For some dogs, thunderstorms trigger stress; for others, car rides and schedule changes.
But for many pet parents, surviving the Fourth of July with their dog happy is one of the biggest challenges. All the loud noises from fireworks can make dogs hide, and some even run away. You might think you will enjoy a holiday gathering. But without preparation for your dog, the holiday can go in a different direction.

Pet Parents Love How They WorkIn the review on Target.com, pet parents praised the drops for their effectiveness in everyday situations.
"My puppy would wake up all type of time at night. I work in the morning so she would make it hard for me to get well rest. Now with this product she sleeps all night. I'm so buying more," shared one shopper in their review on Target.com.
Another happy customer wrote, "I have a 10-month-old Boxer/Pit mix and she is very hyper and active. I give it to her 25-30 minutes before we go for a car ride or go to bed. It calms her down so she can get some rest."
Other reviewers noted how the product really does smell like bacon.
How Melatonin Helps DogsMelatonin is a hormone that regulates sleep cycles and reduces anxiety in small doses. It is not a sedative, and it will not knock your dog out.
Put the drops directly on food to make it easier for dogs to consume. You do not need to hide it in a treat or sausage.
Melatonin takes 20 to 30 minutes to take effect, so before the fireworks start on the Fourth of July, make sure to get your dog ready.
These drops work best as part of an overall strategy. Before the Fourth of July celebration, make sure to exercise your dog, close the curtains and play some white-noise music. Your dog will thank you on July 5.

German Shepherd Surrendered Because 'He Could No Longer Use the Stairs' Gets the Most Beautiful Surprise
Caring for a senior dog can be such a gift, but not everyone sees it that way. This stage of life can be so sad, and it can come with a lot of challenges as older dogs face more health and mobility problems.
Unfortunately, those new challenges meant that one German Shepherd's family decided to surrender him to a Marietta, Georgia animal control facility just one year after they adopted him, and all because he could no longer use the stairs.
King deserves so much better than this.
@sharing.lov3Today, I was getting ready to head home after finishing my shift walking dogs at the shelter when I passed a kennel and noticed a giant German Shepherd lying quietly on his bed. With all the barking and chaos inside the shelter, it’s rare to go by a kennel and see a dog that’s simply lying there. So that alone made me stop… 🥺 His name is King. I walked in his kennel to make sure he was okay. He looked up at me for just a second… then slowly put his head back down. That completely broke my heart.💔 I knew I couldn’t just leave, so I took him out to spend some time with him. When I looked at his kennel card, I realized he had only been surrendered yesterday. King is an 8-year-old German Shepherd weighing over 100 pounds. He’s housebroken, gets along with kids, cats, and other dogs, and he’s everything you’d hope for in a best friend. Once we got outside, little by little, I watched him come back to life. He started wagging his tail. He took treats as gently as any dog I’ve ever met. Then, almost like he wanted to make me proud, he showed me he knows “sit” and “shake.” He is one of the sweetest, gentlest dogs I have ever met. Later, I learned why he had been surrendered. His family said he could no longer go up and down the stairs because he likely has hip dysplasia, something that’s unfortunately common in German Shepherds. Then I learned something that made my heart sink even more. King was adopted from same shelter just last year… …and now, one year later, he’s back. Watching him walk back into that kennel after our time together was heartbreaking. I knew he’d be lying on that same bed again, wondering where his family went and why he is here…🥺 King deserves so much more than this. He’s a senior. He’s gentle. He’s loving. And he deserves a family that will love him through every stage of his life. I’m hoping the right family will see his video… Let’s help King find the forever home he truly deserves… this time, for good. • • #germanshepherd #gsd #dog #malamute #rescue
♬ son original - 🌅🤍🫶🏻King caught one shelter worker's eye after her shift recently, and as she shared in a video on TikTok, spending a little quality time with him went a long way.
After taking him to the bonding room, she discovered that the 8-year-old dog had been surrendered the day before due to his mobility issues as he suffered from hip dysplasia, but he still has so much love to give. As soon as he realized that someone wanted to hang out with him, he really came to life.
"Little by little, his smile started coming back," she wrote, adding that he was excited to show off the tricks he knows.
She later updated with the best news ever: King has found his forever family!
@sharing.lov3Replying to @Miahbabyyy✨ 🎉🐾 KING CHEWY’S FREEDOM RIDE 🐾🎉 Just two days ago, I had finished walking dogs and was about to leave the shelter when I noticed a giant German Shepherd quietly lying on his blanket. I walked into his kennel with some treats, and what happened next stopped me in my tracks. He slowly lifted his head, looked at me… then stared off into the distance before laying his head back down. I could see the sadness in his eyes. 🥺 I checked his kennel card and learned he had been surrendered just one day earlier. He had been adopted from this very shelter a year ago, but was returned because he could no longer go up the stairs due to possible hip dysplasia. At 8 years old, I knew I had to share his story. That night, I shared his story, and within 24 hours, millions of you had watched King’s video. 🥹❤️ The very next morning, I got to the shelter early just to spend some time with him. I had no idea if anyone would show up for him. He stayed close to me, but every few minutes he would quietly walk away, lay back down, and rest his head on the floor. He looked so lost. Then David (@davidpperreault) arrived… And I will never forget what happened next. The moment David started talking to him, it was like watching the light come back into King’s eyes. When David asked if he wanted to go for a walk, King grabbed his own leash off the floor and started happily playing with it, looking up at David with the biggest smile. It was as if he somehow knew… “You’re here for me.” 😭❤️ King met David’s two dogs, and the meet and greet couldn’t have gone any better. Then David called his wife, Lisa, on FaceTime, and they both just knew… King belonged with them. ❤️ A few hours later, David sent me a message saying King had already gone for a ride, had a bath, met both cats with no issues, and was settling into his new home beautifully. Then he told me something that made me smile. King had already let out two deep German Shepherd sighs. If you know this breed, you know exactly what those sighs mean… “I’m safe. I can finally relax.” 🥹 Thank you, David and Lisa, for giving King the life he truly deserves. And thank you to every single person who watched, shared, commented, and cared. This second chance happened because so many of you shared his story. Freedom looks so good on you, King Chewy. ❤️🐾 🥹😭❤️ Can we all agree that King Chewy just won the puppy lottery with his new family? David and Lisa will be creating an account for King so we can all keep up with his new life and watch him continue to heal. ❤️ #germanshepherd #gsd #dog #adopt #happy
♬ original sound - WBsongsJust two days after she shared his story on TikTok, King was adopted. He now lives with a family that already had two dogs and cats for him to play with, and he even has his own TikTok account so people can continue to follow along with his new life.
King's new humans are so lucky to have him.

Why Older Dogs Lose Mobility—and What You Can DoAs dogs age, they begin to slow down, just like humans do in their senior years. According to Small Door Vet, the most common cause of loss of mobility in older dogs is arthritis, which can make their joints inflamed and painful.
This means that you might notice your dog struggles to get around or does so much more slowly. Over time, they may lose the ability to climb stairs like King did, or they may not be able to jump up and down off of a bed or a couch.
The good news: There are a lot of steps you can take to make life easier for your senior dog, including:
- Starting a rehab program that may improve their range of motion
- Adding ramps at home that they can climb instead of stairs
- Keep their nails well trimmed
- Offer an orthopedic bed to help them rest comfortably
- Use a stroller or a wagon when walking long distances
Watching your dog struggle to do the things that once came so easily can be heartbreaking, but being there for them through it all is really what matters most.

Tiny Poodle Puppy Is Basically a Genius While Learning New Tricks
Bringing home a new puppy is always an exciting start to a long life journey. But one of the best parts about new pet parent-ship is getting to see your little puppy thrive and begin to learn new things about themselves and the world around them.
Take Kiwi, an absolutely adorable Toy Poodle, who lives with her mom, Abigail Larkin, a photographer based out of Pennsylvania. Abigail took to TikTok to share how Kiwi is doing, learning her new tricks and training at just nine weeks ago, and it's safe to say Abigail might just have a certified genius on her hands.
@abigaillarkinphotography#dogsoftiktok #toypoodle #poodlesoftiktok #puppy
♬ original sound - Abigail Larkin Photographyln the video, which has been viewed more than 100k times on TikTok, Kiwi can be seen showing off how she knows to sit, ring her bell and rightfully receive treats after the fact. Her little hops show just how proud she is, and the entire thing is just too cute to handle.
Commenters on the video fully agreed and gushed with their reactions:
- "I love her little hops when before or after she presses the bell ❤️❤️"
- "The touch +sit is so cutieeeeee"
- "She’s so cute and bouncy..omg my shaylaaaa😢😢😢🥹🥹"
Poodles are widely recognized as one of the smartest dog breeds in existence, just behind Border Collies. They are exceptional problem solvers, learn very quickly and retain knowledge at a genius level compared to other breeds.
A Poodle's intelligence may be difficult for some people to handle, as they can decipher how to manipulate situations and routines. Additionally, because of their smarts, they can grow easily bored, which can result in troublemaking behavior that can be difficult to manage while training them.
The best way to deal with a very smart dog, like a Poodle, is with ample training and exercise for the dog. Keeping things fresh and new is a great way to stimulate their minds and keep them entertained, exercised, happy and healthy. All three sizes of Poodles (Standard, Miniature and Toy) are all equally smart, so don't underestimate the little ones! Smart things come in small packages, too.
Just look at Kiwi! She's on her way to being a genius. If this is what she can do at nine weeks, just wait for the weeks to come.

Precious Stray Kitten Finds a New Home After Running Down a Highway, and We Can't Stop Crying

As with any new pet, it's imperative to do your due diligence and research before bringing a kitten into their new homes. With kittens in particular, there are a few musts before introducing them into a new environment.
Kittens need a designated "safe zone" when they're first being introduced to their new home. This is a quiet spot with food, their bed, a litter box and plenty of privacy so they can acclimate and adjust to the sights, smells and sounds of their new place. A safe haven also allows for low-pressure integration, which is crucial to making a kitten feel comfortable.
Another very important step when bringing home a new furry friend is to kitten proof your home. Removing things like toxic houseplants, stray electrical wires and other hazards ensures your kitten is in a safe environment while they're adjusting.
Last but certainly not least, consult with a pro like your vet for any questions that might arise. They're your best ally with taking care of your new furr-ever friend!

Dog Mom Whips Up Special Calming Treats Before Fireworks Season—and Pet Parents Love It
A single crack of a firework can turn even the happiest, tail-wagging dog into a nervous wreck. For many dogs, the Fourth of July is the loudest and most disorienting night of the year, and many pet parents are just praying to come away unscathed.
Luckily, Heather, a dog mom, decided to take a practical approach to keep her dogs calm with homemade calming treats. She shared the recipe on her YouTube channel, Bark Belly Bites, so pet parents can make them in advance to keep their pets relaxed and calm during Independence Day.

These homemade treats are designed to promote relaxation in dogs during stressful moments. For some dogs, that is fireworks; for others, that is thunderstorms or vet visits.
A Recipe Built Around Simple IngredientsPet parents love these treats because of how simple they are. Anyone can make them in 20 to 25 minutes at home.
Ingredients include half a cup of pumpkin puree, a tablespoon of xylitol-free peanut butter, and a cup of oat flour. (You can always blend some oats if you do not have oat flour at home.)
Then, add chamomile tea—two teaspoons for larger dogs and one for smaller dogs. Be sure to use dried chamomile straight from a plain tea bag. Stick to plain chamomile and avoid blends with added flavors, energizing ingredients or herbal extracts.
Next, pour the mixture into silicone molds and bake for 18 minutes at 325°F.
Related: 8 Words That Make Dogs Feel Like Everything Is Okay, According to a Trainer
Pet Parents Love Homemade TreatsThe best part about homemade treats is you know what goes into your dog's snacks. You have control over every ingredient in the recipe.
While these homemade treats are not magic, they can be part of a broader strategy to help your dog survive the Fourth of July happily and relaxed.
Get Ready for Fireworks SeasonRemember, you should have an active plan and strategy for fireworks season. The big mistake with fireworks anxiety is waiting until the fireworks explode to try to calm your dog.
Start early and let your dog settle. You can test the treats before Fourth of July. Heather's dog, Jesse, did a taste test once the treats were ready, grabbing one and quickly running away with it.
And just like that, you find a way to help your dogs remain calm as soon as the first explosion goes off.

Pit Bull Spotted Chained to a Pickup Truck Goes Viral—and His Fate Came Down to the Final Hours
Back in May, West the Pit Bull made headlines after a video showing him chained to the back of a pick up truck in southern California went viral.
According to CBS News, the footage of West was first shared on Reddit, where the OP confirmed they reported the incident to California Highway Patrol. Seeing West chained up by the neck like this as the truck moved through traffic on the highway was heartbreaking to so many people that he and his story went viral.
Now, there's a happy update to share.
@cbslaThe pit bull who captured national attention after being found chained in the back of a pickup truck on the 5 Freeway has found a foster home just days before he was scheduled to be euthanized. Animal advocates say West underwent surgery to treat injuries caused by the chain around his neck and is now beginning a new chapter. Rescue groups are continuing to raise funds to help cover his transportation, medical care and training needs as he settles into his new life. #dog #fosterdog
♬ original sound - CBS LAWest was surrendered by the driver of the pick up truck shortly afterwards, with the person claiming that he was a stray dog they'd found. It's a good thing that the incident was reported, because he even required surgery due to the damage caused by the chains.
It wasn't clear until the final hour if West was going to make it out of the situation alive, though. As CBS LA shared on TikTok, he was scheduled to be euthanized when Good Tails Rescue stepped in and found him the perfect foster home.
West has a long way to go as he recovers and learns how to trust humans again, but he has the chance to do that now, and that's what matters most.

How to Report Animal Cruelty in Your AreaIf not for the people who spoke up after they saw West being chained up in the back of that truck, he might not be here today, but because of them, he has the second chance at a much softer life that he deserves.
If you believe you've witnessed animal cruelty, it's incredibly important to report it to the proper authorities, though that may vary depending on where you live.
According to the ASPCA, the best agency to contact is typically whoever handles animal law enforcement in your area. That might be animal control or a humane organization, but if you aren't sure who to reach out to, you can always call your local police's non-emergency line and they can direct you to the right place.
And of course, if you believe that the animal in question is in immediate danger that could threaten their life, you can call 911 to report what's happening.
All dogs deserve to be loved and feel safe, and it's important that we all keep our eyes and ears open to make sure no animal is being abused or neglected.

Fluffy Bear Coat Shar Pei Puppy Follows His Even Fluffier Bernese Mountain Dog Sister Down the Stairs for the First Time
Older siblings often show their younger brothers and sisters the lessons of life. Whether it's walking, playing, doing homework or driving, the siblings with more experience bring a lot of wisdom to the table for their little sis and baby bro.
The same rule applies in the canine world, where the younger fur baby learns from those of higher ages. Arthur is an adorable Bear Coat Shar Pei puppy who was hesitant to make his first trip down the stairs until his Bernese Mountain Dog sister Reese came alongside him to show him the ropes.
@laladop86High Hopes - Arthur’s first time down the stairs. #dogsoftiktok #tiktokdogs #sharpei #dog #puppiesoftiktok
♬ original sound - Chuck TimelyIn the TikTok from @laladop86, Arthur stood on the top step and looked down the stairs with apprehension. Reese stood beside him and must have sensed his hesitation. Her big sister role kicked in and she started stepping down the stairs, almost as if she was telling her little brother, "This is how you do it."
Arthur marveled at his sister's poise as she mastered every step. Reese's floofy coat moved in perfect time with each stair she put her paw on, making the challenge look seamless to Arthur as he watched.
The precious puppy resembled an adorable plush toy as he assessed the stairs, then took a moment to collect himself. The big moment arrived, where he put his front paws on the step below and followed up with his back legs. He repeated the motion with each step and made it all the way down.
Even though Arthur's form was a bit clumsier than his sister's, he accomplished his goal on the first try.
Shar Pei Coat TypesShar Peis come in three different types of coat. The most well-known is the short, bristly fur that most Shar Peis have. Then there is a slightly longer coat that is approximately two centimeters long. The rarest of the three is the fluffy (and adorable) bear coat.
Related: Bernese Mountain Puppy Has One Sweet Request for Mom, and It's Melting Hearts
This plush coat is the result of a recessive gene that both parents must carry in order to produce. The trademark wrinkles of a Shar Pei aren't as prominent with those who boast a bear coat, though their size and weight are similar to others of their breed. Bear coat Shar Peis need regular grooming to keep fur healthy and avoid matting.
The extra brushing is worth it if they're as cute as Arthur.

‘Identical Twin’ Shelter Cat Brothers Prove Just How Bonded They Are
Bonded cats are so precious. I wish I could adopt them all, but unfortunately, even one cat would probably send my dogs into a frenzy. I can't even imagine two! One day, though, I would love to have cats.
If I could, I would take in these two shelter cat brothers in a heartbeat. They're a bonded pair, and more than that, they're easily the sweetest cats I've ever seen. All they want is to be together:
@thatflippingagentSomeone please go adopt these sweet boys! They are at the new Cat Cafe in North Phoenix. They had a sister too but she wasn’t out #adoptdontshop
♬ awww so cute - Cherri ⁉️According to Justine, the shelter actually said these two aren't a bonded pair. However, the way they're acting definitely gives the opposite vibe: they keep rubbing up against each other, headbutting each other, and refusing to leave each other's sides.
They're currently at a cat cafe, which gets their cats from a local shelter nearby. You can apply to adopt cats in the cafe, but the shelter has to approve it: most cat cafes won't just allow anyone to leave with a latte in one hand and a cat in the other.
Related: Blue Cat’s Emerald Eyes Look Like Magical Fine Jewelry
Since she just popped in there one day, there haven't been any updates on this pair from Justine herself. However, she did see plenty of other adorable cats there, and any of them would definitely make a loving home complete:
@thatflippingagentDid you know they just opened a cat cafe in north Phoenix? $14 for an hour with the kitties. I hope they find great homes ❤️ #adoptdontshop #catsoftiktok #catcafe #northphoenix
♬ awww so cute - Cherri ⁉️This cat cafe is in Phoenix, Arizona. The two cats in the first video are not listed with the currently adoptable cats, so they've both been adopted. Hopefully, they went together, and if not, I hope they're getting enough love to make up for it!
Do You Have to Adopt Bonded Pairs Together? The cats in the video were not listed by the shelter as a bonded pair. They were rescued together, which definitely points to them forming some kind of bond. However, the shelter has certain signs they look for.
If a shelter specifically advertises two cats as a bonded pair, they will not allow them to be separated. It might be upsetting if you really fall in love with one of them, but it's for the best. Separating a bonded pair of cats can lead to:
- Depression.
- Aggression.
- Lethargy.
- Nonstop yowling.
Adopting them both is best. They both deserve love, after all! Especially those pretty boys!

Dachshund Takes Helicopter Ride to Monaco Like It's No Big Deal
Lady, the Dachshund, continues to live the glamorous life.
While on a trip to France, her influencer mom's new boyfriend surprised the duo with a helicopter ride from St. Tropez to Monaco.
This was Abby Baffoe's Dachshund's first helicopter ride, and an unplanned one at that, so she was a bit worried about how the pup would fare, but the results will astound you!
@abbybaffoeI literally don’t want this trip to end 😭😩🥹
♬ Original Sound - TikTok AdvertiserIt's not surprising that Lady's first helicopter ride was taken all in stride.
After all, this dog lives a glam life as the daughter of an influencer.
She got to fly to Paris with her mom for a brand trip with TRESemmé, and she was a complete pro and slept during the whole flight and even on the car ride to the hotel (some drugs helped with that).
We shouldn't be surprised that this Dachshund is a naturally perfect traveler, as she often travels with her mom to hotels (including staycations) and does photo shoots at hotels.
Also, how could Lady not enjoy this beautiful helicopter ride? The views were truly beautiful, and it helped that it was a short ride.
Related: Lady the Dachshund Takes on Paris Like a Travel Pro and It's Adorable
Can Dogs Safely Ride in Helicopters? We know Dachshunds can safely ride on airplanes, but can they ride in helicopters?
The answer is yes, but there are a few things to keep in mind.
Your dog should be checked out before taking a helicopter flight to make sure they're healthy enough to fly.
Since Lady had to fly to Paris with her mom, she had been checked out by the vet and had all the proper vaccines.
Lady, the Dachshund, also has an approved airline carrier, but because this was a private helicopter, she didn't have to ride in it during the flight.
Baffoe was worried about Lady's ears because helicopters are so loud, and usually, dogs should have special noise-protection headphones to minimize the impact of loud sounds.
However, this was a very short flight, and they did cover Lady's ears with a sweatshirt.
But it looks like Lady did just fine and is living her best European life!

Little Black German Shepherd Puppies Look Like Walking Dust Bunnies
I've always said I don't really want another dog because, if I'm being honest, I'm much more of a cat person. But these fluffy little black German Shepherd puppies are making me question everything I thought I knew because they are ridiculously adorable.
Seriously, if someone handed me one of these tiny dust bunnies and told me to walk away, I genuinely don't know if I'd have the strength. They look like someone crossed a bear cub with a Swiffer duster, and I mean that in the most loving way possible.

Honestly, giant puppy paws are one of nature's greatest inventions.
Those oversized feet are basically Mother Nature saying, "Good luck buying enough dog food in the future."
As much as I love my cats, these little fluff balls are dangerously convincing.
And I have a feeling I'm not the only person suddenly googling "long-haired German Shepherd puppies near me."

Orange Cat Teaching Her Kitten ‘Martial Arts’ Is the Most Orange Cat Thing Ever
Orange cats are, allegedly, absolutely bonkers. I've never actually had one, but I've seen enough videos on the internet (and enough Garfield comics) to believe it. I swear, it's like every orange cat doesn't know how to act right when the camera turns on!
One orange cat recently got caught on camera training her kitten in the orange ways of life. Already, she's helping him practice his martial arts skills, while his dad only wants to snuggle. It's way too funny to miss:

They're keeping the baby, of course, so this sweet orange cat family will stay together forever. Eventually, the kitten will grow up, and Rose should probably start praying now. Two fully orange cats and one mostly orange cat aren't for the faint of heart!

They're not crazy all the time, though. Every day, for example, they have family bath time. The baby is a little left out, though, and they're teaching him how to be independent early:

Are Orange Cats Actually Crazier? If you ask anyone who has or has at least seen an orange cat before will tell you that orange cats are built differently. They say that they're crazier, more dramatic, and typically, that they're more affectionate!
Viktoriya Skorikova / Getty Images
Those are all anecdotes, though: there is no scientific evidence to suggest that the color of a cat's fur actually makes any difference in their attitude. Additionally, though most orange cats are male, there's nothing to suggest that gender actually makes a difference, either. What can contribute to a "crazy" attitude is:
- Socialization skills.
- Their breed.
- Whether they get enough exercise.
- Whether they have enough mental stimulation.
Kittens tend to be a little crazier, too. They're living for the first time! And sometimes, their parents are egging them on...

Hen Swims Through Floodwater To Reach Coop and It’s Surprisingly Impressive
I love chickens and have had many of them, and they never stop surprising me. People underestimate them so much, but chickens can be smart, affectionate, determined, dramatic, and occasionally way more capable than anyone gives them credit for.
This hen is proof.
View this post on InstagramIn the video, the coop is surrounded by floodwater, and you can see one chicken making her way across the water like she has somewhere very important to be. The caption explains that this was one of the humans’ favorite things they saw that day, because they had no idea their hens had a natural ability to swim. No lessons. No practice laps. No chicken swim coach with a whistle. Just a hardy hen deciding the barn porch was not good enough, and the coop was worth the trip.
Most of the flock apparently chose the sensible route and posted up on the barn porch, which feels fair. If my yard turned into a lake, I would also consider staying where my feet were dry. But this hen had other plans.
She wanted her coop.
View this post on InstagramI audibly laughed when I saw her bobbing along through the water, making her way around the coop toward the open door. One commenter said they completely lost it when she came around the corner, and honestly, that’s the exact moment the video goes from surprising to legendary.
Another viewer compared her determination to that very specific feeling of just wanting to get back to your own bed, even if the journey is questionable. That may be the most relatable part. This hen saw floodwater and thought, “Unfortunately, my room is over there.”
And she made it.
She swims around the coop to the open door with the automatic closer, like she knows the clock is ticking and she’s not trying to get locked out of her own house. Once she gets inside, she has the whole place to herself, which may have been the plan all along. No porch crowd. No sharing space. Just one brave, soggy queen claiming the coop.
Now, should chickens swim as a regular activity? No. This isn’t a lifestyle recommendation. But as a one-time display of grit, timing, and pure chicken stubbornness, it’s incredible.
The caption even jokes that now they wish they had a floating bridge for the hens, and honestly, that feels like the next logical farm upgrade. Not because chickens need luxury infrastructure, but because apparently some of them will absolutely use it.
This hen didn’t just cross floodwater. She revealed a whole hidden skill set and got a private coop suite out of it.
Can Chickens Swim Safely?Chickens can sometimes paddle if they end up in water, but that doesn’t mean swimming is safe or something to encourage. Their feathers aren’t waterproof like ducks’ feathers, and they can get tired, chilled, or trapped quickly. If your coop area floods, it’s best to move birds to higher, dry ground as soon as you can.
The RSPCA shares that chickens need a suitable environment with shelter and protection from the weather. During heavy rain or flooding, dry shelter matters even more.
This hen handled her soggy commute like a champion, but a floating bridge suddenly sounds like excellent chicken city planning.

Tiny Ragdoll Kitten on Her Huge Cat Tower Looks Like a Princess in a Castle
Cat trees are super important if you're planning on having an indoor cat, assuming you want them to be happy. Indoor life can get a little boring sometimes, and a cat tree helps to give them a place to go and play.
The size of the cat tree you'll need largely depends on the cat you have, but most people believe that bigger is better. One Ragdoll cat's mom hooked her up with an absolutely massive cat palace, and she's already loving every bit of it:
@princesspeachragdollIt definitely did not cost £200 #cat #catsoftiktok #fyp #ragdoll #ragdollkitten
♬ original sound - ✧・゚: *✧・゚:*Princess Peach the Ragdoll Kitten is only a few weeks old, but she's already so loved. I love this cat tree for her because it's the perfect shade of peachy pink. It matches her name! Judging by the caption on this video, it was around $260, which might seem like a lot, but a good cat tree can last years.
Peach is loving it! She's managed to get all the way to the top, even with her little legs. She really seems to love the dangly toys and the scratching posts, too. It'll take her a while to explore the whole thing!
Related: Rare ‘Rainbow' Ragdoll Cat Is the Happiest Girl in the World
You might think that her being so loved would make her nicer. Her mom gives her everything she could ever want... And yet, she still loves to try to professionally wrestle her mom:
@princesspeachragdollDamage is -10% tbh but she tried her best #cat #catsoftiktok #fyp #ragdoll #ragdollkitten
♬ original sound - calldatfashion111She's still so little, she can't do a lot of damage, no matter how much she tries. When she gets older, maybe she'll be able to take on a bigger fight!
Do Kittens Need a Big Cat Tree?Princess Peach has a cat tree that would make other cats super jealous. She's just a baby, and odds are, she'll have this tree for years to come! One big upside to indoor cats is that they don't get dirty like dogs or outdoor cats do, so they'll track less dirt onto it!
Kittens don't technically need a bigger cat tree than older cats: in fact, it might technically be the opposite. Their small legs can only climb so far! However, many cat parents invest in a larger tree for their kitten anyway, because:
- It gives them more space to explore.
- Buying one large one prevents you from having to upgrade in the future.
- If you adopt more than one kitten at the same time, they can all play with it.
It's more of an upfront investment, but it's worth it most of the time. Peach's cat tree definitely was!

Rare Dachshund-Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Mix Looks Exactly Like a Stuffed Animal
Hybrid dogs have gained popularity over the years, with certain crossbreeds becoming top picks for their low-shedding coats and playful personalities. Goldendoodles, Chuggles, Maltipoos and Chiweenies are in high demand, with more crossbreeds becoming more common.
This fluffy puppy is a unique combination of a Dachshund and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and gives off the sweet appearance of a poofy plush toy.
@puppiesnlovegilbertHave you ever seen a dashalier ? what do you think ? 👇 #doxie #doxiesoftiktok #dachshundsoftiktok #puppytiktok
♬ Do You Believe in Mircales? - EncynovaIn the TikTok from @puppiesnlovegilbert, a floofy fur baby was held in front of the camera and described as a "Dashalier." The precious puppy looked like she was plucked right off the shelf in a toy store and gave off total stuffed animal vibes.
Her adorable floppy ears, inquisitively expressive eyes and gold-spun velvety coat almost looked like an animated character from a Disney movie. She boasted the soft, fluffy waves of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel while exuding a confident Doxie attitude.
With her innocent expression, cloud-like fur and giant paws too big for her body, this canine cutie will probably have people wondering if she's real.
Followers were charmed by the rare crossbreed pup, with some comparing her to an iconic film character:
- "Looks like Lady from Lady and the Tramp," one noted, referencing the 1955 Disney classic.
- "Well, that’s the cutest Doxie mix ever," another remarked.
- "That’s a forever puppy!" a follower raved.
- "I think they should be called Cavaweenies," someone suggested.
These adorable hybrids are small dogs that stand from 13 to 16 inches at adulthood and can weigh between 15 and 25 pounds. The Dashalier usually has a rounded head with a medium-length muzzle, taking after the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel side. They usually have a lean body like the Dachshund but not as long. Their coats range from long to short in length and can have either a soft, feathery texture or be more wiry.

Dachshunds have a reputation of being stubborn, where the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's eagerness to please brings more calm in a Dashalier mix. These crossbreeds are moderately easy to train and wonderful with children and other pets. Introducing basic training and socialization during puppyhood sets a positive foundation since these dogs are willing to learn.

Tiny Maltese Dancing to Banjo Music Is Pure Joy in Dog Form
I have to admit that none of my pets possess any particularly impressive talents. Unless you count throwing up on the dining room table, shedding on every black article of clothing I own or waking me up at 3 a.m. for absolutely no reason.
Which is why I am both deeply impressed and slightly jealous of one talented little Maltese named Daisy, whose special skill appears to be starring in her own musical productions.

Honestly, the entrance alone deserves an award.
She pops into view with such confidence that I genuinely thought she might have been the one directing the entire production.
And somehow her dramatic exit is equally impressive.
The comments section completely fell in love with the little performer.- "Dancing into frame like she's the one who hit record."
- "She just wants to dance at the ballet."
- "Going out of frame like that is an incredible artistic choice."
- "If I looked out my window and saw this in my neighbour's garden, I cannot tell you how happy that would make me."
- "What a talented pup."
- "What a wee darling."
Personally, I think Daisy knows exactly how adorable she is.
And frankly, if I could dance around in a cute sweater while someone serenaded me with a banjo, I would probably become insufferable too.

Of course, some dogs apparently prefer live banjo performances.
And honestly, Daisy may have just invented an entirely new genre:

7 Ragdoll Myths Every Owner Should Know
If you've ever considered gettng a pet you know it's a big deal deciding what type of cat you want to join your household. But while there is a breed that’s perfect for every person, Ragdolls are a consistent favorite. In fact, many prospective pet parents see these kitties as the closest thing to a perfect cat, and it makes sense.
Besides their stunning looks and blue eyes, part of that appeal comes from the breed's famously laid-back nature as they are known for their dog-like personality, allowing animal lovers who want an affectionate pet without daily walks the chance to get the best of both worlds.
But popularity comes with a downside: misinformation. If you spend a few minutes researching Ragdolls online to find out more about them, you'll come across all kinds of claims about their personalities, behavior, intelligence, and even their origins. Some contain a grain of truth, while others are wildly exaggerated—or completely false. Because of this, you can't believe everything you hear about this pretty cat breed.
The good news? Ragdolls really are wonderful pets for many households. The bad news? Believing the myths about the breed can leave future cat parents with unrealistic expectations. So before bringing home one of these beloved felines, it's worth separating fact from fiction.
Here are seven of the most common Ragdoll myths and the truth behind them. That way, you'll know what to expect if you add one of these furry companions to your family.

7 Ragdoll Cat Myths Experts say many assumptions about Ragdoll cats are based on misunderstanding the breed.Known for their cuddly personalities, Ragdoll cats are often described as the ideal indoor companion. But are Ragdoll cats really hypoallergenic? Do they shed less than other cats? And do all Ragdolls go limp when picked up? Here are seven common Ragdoll cat myths veterinarians say prospective owners should stop believing.
Myth #1: Ragdoll Cats Are HypoallergenicIf you've been searching for a cat that's easier on allergies, you've probably seen Ragdolls recommended as a hypoallergenic breed. But while they may shed differently than some long-haired cats, experts say they can still trigger allergy symptoms.
“Ragdolls may shed less than other long-haired breeds, but they are not hypoallergenic,” says Liza Cahn, DVM, a veterinarian at Embrace Pet Insurance. “There is actually no such thing as a 100% hypoallergenic cat.”
People are usually allergic to a protein called Fel d 1, which is found in feline saliva, skin dander and urine—not the fur itself, explains Garrett Schuilenberg, DVM, managing veterinarian at Small Door Vet.
When Ragdolls groom themselves, they spread this protein onto their coat, Schuilenberg says. “Because they lack a dense undercoat, they might stir up slightly less dander than other breeds, but they still produce the allergen and can absolutely trigger allergies,” he says.
Myth #2: Ragdoll Cats Don't Feel Pain Like Other CatsBecause Ragdolls are known for their calm, easygoing personality, some people mistakenly assume they're less sensitive to pain than other breeds. Veterinarians say that's not only false, but it can also be dangerous if it causes owners to miss signs of illness or injury.
This may be traced to the breed’s laidback attitude, states Aliya McCullough, DVM, chief veterinary officer at Fetch Pet Insurance. “They do feel pain,” she says. “In reality, all cats feel pain, whether it is due to common reasons like arthritis, dental disease, or urinary issues, and most are also really good at hiding it.”
Schuilenberg calls this a “dangerous myth,” noting that Ragdolls have the exact same nervous system and pain receptors as any other feline. “When they are in pain or uncomfortable, they tend to quiet down and hide their symptoms rather than vocalizing or acting out defensively,” he says.
Myth #3: The Famous Ragdoll Origin Story Is TrueFew cat breeds have a stranger origin story than the Ragdoll. One persistent rumor claims the breed's famously relaxed temperament can be traced back to a car accident involving its foundation cat, but experts say that's not how genetics work.
“The truth is, Ragdolls were developed in Riverside, California in the 1960s by breeder Ann Baker,” Cahn states.
“Breed lore says that Josephine, the foundational cat, was hit by a car, resulting in kittens with especially docile, floppy personalities,” Cahn says. “However, the idea that a car accident or medical treatment could change Josephine’s heritable genetics in a way that would be passed to her kittens is not scientifically plausible.”
Instead, Cahn reveals selective breeding is the most likely reason Ragdolls developed their signature temperament.
Myth #4: Ragdoll Cats Never MeowMany prospective owners assume Ragdolls are completely silent because they're known for their gentle nature. While these kittens are generally quieter than some breeds, they're far from mute.
Ragdolls aren’t considered a loud breed, but they do communicate, Schuilenberg says. “They are highly social and communicative cats,” he explains. “Many Ragdoll owners will tell you that their cats regularly ‘chirp,’ trill and soft-meow to greet them at the door, request food or simply join in on a household conversation.”
Related: 7 Most Faithful Cat Breeds Who Love Unconditionally, According to Vets
Myth #5: Every Ragdoll Cat Goes Limp When HeldThese felines may be famous for going limp like a rag doll when thye are picked up, but Cahn says not all Ragdolls do this. So if you're expecting every Ragdoll to instantly melt into your arms when you hold them, you may be surprised. “The fact that some Ragdolls do become floppy when held is likely related to selective breeding for a calm, tolerant, docile and affectionate temperament,” she says.
Because of this, our experts say some Ragdolls are naturally more high strung or independent and won’t flop when they’re picked up as a result.
“Just like any other cat, their comfort level with physical contact depends on personality, early handling, trust, health and the situation," Cahn points out.
Myth #6: Ragdoll Cats Don't ShedDo Ragdolls shed? This is another Ragdoll myth. In fact, one of the biggest surprises for first-time cat owners is discovering just how much fur a Ragdoll can leave around the house. Despite their reputation as a low-maintenance long-haired breed, shedding is completely normal.
“Ragdolls have medium-long fur and do shed, though not as much as some other cat breeds,” McCullough says.
However, because this breed has a single plush coat without a thick, downy undercoat, their shedding patterns can look different from other cats, Schuilenberg says. “You will find soft tufts of hair drifting across the floor rather than a constant cloud of fine undercoat fuzz,” he explains.
Myth #7: Ragdoll Cats Never Scratch FurnitureTheir sweet personality may earn them a great reputation, but that doesn't mean Ragdolls ignore their natural instincts. Like every other breed, they still need appropriate places to scratch.
“Scratching is a normal and instinctual feline behavior, regardless of breed,” Cahn says. “Cats scratch to keep their claws sharp and healthy, removing debris and shedding old layers of cuticle in the process.”
Schuilenberg agrees. “Ragdolls are still cats,” he says. “They will absolutely scratch your carpets or furniture if they aren't provided with appropriate, sturdy scratching posts and cardboard lounges to satisfy that natural instinct.”

Tips for Living with Senior Dogs Photo by Jessie Nelson on UnsplashPhoto by Jessie Nelson on Unsplash
Living with an older, more senior pet comes with its own set of unique challenges. It requires a new level of accommodation and adapting your space to make sure you're meeting their own unique needs at this new stage of their life.
When you're transitioning your life to accommodate a senior dog it's important to consider a few things:
- Mobility can become a huge concern with older animals, so be sure to attend to that first.
- Dental disease is very common in older animals, so staying on top of teeth care is also very important.
- Joint supplements and other vitamins can help with arthritis and other ailments.
- It may be time to update their diet to something specific for seniors.
- Food puzzles and little training sessions can help with cognitive function.
- Make sure to pay attention to their body quality as senior dogs can start to lose the ability to regulate their temperatures.
As with all things related to your pet, consulting your vet is the first step as they can be yours and your dog's biggest ally during the aging process.
Living with a senior dog does require work, but it's well worth it. Just make sure you're ready for some senior sass. Especially when you taint their favorite snack with their meds!

Persian Kitten's Hair Is So Wild, Her Own Dad Calls Her a 'Mango Strand'
Kittens are born naturally adorable, but it's hard to know what they'll look like as they grow. When Persian kitten Princess Paw came into the world, she didn't look like her siblings—she looked like a tiny, electrified mango. And the internet hasn't recovered since.
