Adorable British Longhair Kitten Looks Deeply Concerned About Moving Into His New House
I don't know why worried little kittens have such a chokehold on my emotions, but they do. Give me one tiny fluffy baby with big eyes and a concerned expression, and suddenly I'm ready to cancel my plans and spend the next six hours reassuring him that everything is going to be OK.
That's exactly what happened when I stumbled across this precious orange British Longhair kitten on TikTok. The sweet little guy has just arrived at his new home, and his tiny meows and worried face had me wanting to reach through my screen and give him approximately 7,000 forehead kisses.
@pearlsragdollsMy new kitten isn't sure what to think of his new home yet
♬ original sound - Pearl’s RagdollsThe adorable video was shared by @pearlsragdolls and introduces an orange long-haired British kitten who's still trying to figure out what this whole "new house" situation is about.
The caption reads:
"My new kitten isn't sure what to think of his new home yet."
In the background, his mom gently asks, "What's wrong?" before reassuring him, "You aren't sure of your new house yet?"
The tiny kitten answers her with the sweetest little meows imaginable.

Honestly, he doesn't just meow.
He looks like he meows with his entire face.
Every tiny squeak comes with wide eyes, an expressive little mouth, and the unmistakable look of someone who's just realized they accidentally moved without reading the reviews first.
The Comments Section Absolutely Adored Him:- "I'm not a cat person... damn that is a cute ass cat."
- "He's meowing in lowercase."
- "He's talking about his feelings so that's a good start. Don't leave it bottled up little mister."
- "He meows with his whole face."
- "Not to be dramatic but I would die for him."
- "That little face deserves unlimited forehead kisses."
- "I love having a talkative cat so much. You two will have the best late night convos. Plus they can keep a secret like no one else."
Personally, "he's meowing in lowercase" completely took me out.
Because somehow ... that's exactly what he's doing.
How to Help a Kitten Get Used to a New Home @basepawsAre you moving with your cat soon? Here are 5 tips to help them settle into your new home! 🏡🐱 #cat #catsoftiktok #cattips #moving #movingtips #petsoftiktok
♬ Calm Music Background (Live) - Zen musicMoving into a new home can feel overwhelming for a kitten. Giving them a quiet room with food, water, a litter box, toys, and cozy hiding spots can help them adjust at their own pace.
Speak softly, spend time sitting nearby, and let your kitten come to you when they're ready. Many kittens become much more confident after a few days, as they learn that their new home is safe and full of people who love them.
And if your new kitten wants to have long conversations about their feelings along the way ...
Well, I think that's only fair.

Amazon's Popular Freeze-Dried Minnow Cat Treats Are 25% Off for Prime Day
Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
There's still time to get Amazon's premium minnow cat treats on sale, but time is quickly running out. Amazon's Vital Essentials Freeze Dried Minnows Cat Treats are only $8 for a limited time. That's 25% off the original price!
But the Prime Day sale ends at the end of the day on June 26, so if you want them at this discount, you'll need to act fast. The good news is that even if you miss the sale, they'll only be $11 — and a treat this popular is more than worth that price. (I know, because my cat loves these minnows and carries them around the house like prey before eating them!)
These all-natural, single-ingredient treats support digestive and oral health. This particular variety is one of Vital Essentials' strongest performers on Amazon, with an "Amazon Choice" status and more than 7,000 purchases this month, the manufacturer tells me. That's impressive!
One buyer writes: "All my fur babies and the fosters love these - cats and dogs - heck when i hear the crunch crunch i even want one haha."
My Cat Loves These TreatsMy 1 1/2-year old tabby cat adores these minnow treats. He begs for them when he smells them, and grabs them in his tiny mouth and carries them around like prey until he finds a safe place to eat them.
And these treats are the real deal. They're actual minnows (full-sized!) that have been freeze dried. So they really will tickle your cat's hunting instincts! They do smell like fish too, but when the bag is sealed, the smell is sealed away as well.
I don't feel guilty giving these to my kitty, because they're a healthy treat (especially when compared to the lobster-mac-flavored ones he also loves.)
Vital Essentials Freeze Dried Minnows Cat Treats for $8 at AmazonCourtesy of Amazon
Shop it!Buyers love these minnows as well, rating them 4.4 out of 5 stars overall with more than 8,000 reviews.
One happy buyer writes on Amazon: "Be prepared that these look like what they are: raw, dead, dried tiny fish. They are delightfully crunchy, with the perfect dead fish aroma for my cat. My cat is picky. She LOVES these!!"
Another person raves: "The cat is obsessed with these. They're a nice go-to snack for her. Single ingredient, so you know what she's getting."
"I bought these as a high-protein, minimal-ingredient treat option and they’ve been a big hit right away," shares another buyer.
The $8 deal is exclusively for Amazon Prime members, who also get free shipping. But anyone can get them for $11 and get free shipping on orders shipped by Amazon of over $35.

This Maine Coon Goes Full 'House Lion' When Locked Out of Rooms, and It's Insane
People assume that life with cats is peaceful, tranquil, and filled with cat naps. And for some that may be the case. But for others, particularly those who live with Maine Coons, they know that life with a Maine Coon is a life with your own personal house lion.
TikTok user @wearelovehaus frequently takes to social media to share life with her two house lions. Recently, she shared a hilariously unhinged video of one having some big feelings when he was locked out of a room. Chaos ensued.
@wearelovehausThe joys of owning house lions aka #mainecoon cats!! #catsoftiktok #catmom #funnycats #catlife
♬ original sound - LØVEHAUSThe cat aggressively makes his way into the room because privacy is a privilege, not a right!
Commenters on social media naturally had thoughts and sounded off on the hilarity.
"excuse me ma'am your lion wants in"
"With a Maine Coon, you're never alone!"
"Yeah, so you can’t close the doors. Hope that helps!"
Luckily no doors nor Maine Coons appear to have been harmed in the making of this TikTok.
Maine Coon Personality TraitsMaine Coons are definitely known for their size, but they're also known for their big personalities.
Many consider Maine Coons to be almost "dog like" with their personalities. They are very intelligent and communicative cats, using verbal cues to literally get their human's attention. Maine Coons bond deeply with their people and are incredibly loyal, sometimes to the point where they can be borderline "velcro" like.
Maine Coon owners often note that with the breed, the kitten phase never truly ends. They are highly energetic, playful, extroverted cats who love to be social and have a good time. They're often very comfortable with strangers on top of loving the members of their own family immensely.
Which they not be the introverted, stereotypical house cat, a Maine Coon is absolutely a stellar addition to any feline lover's life. Just protect your doors as best you can.

10 Best Low-Maintenance Dog Breeds for First-Time Owners
Having a pet can be a chaotic yet rewarding experience for anyone, but for first-timers, the switch to dog ownership may feel especially abrupt. Dogs require real attention and care, and that can quickly disrupt the flow of everyday routines. Throw in a high-energy breed who doesn’t know how to relax, and suddenly your new furry friend starts to feel a little more like a full-time job.

The good news? Not every dog comes with a packed activity schedule and a need for constant stimulation. Some breeds are perfectly happy doing exactly what you're doing, even if it’s absolutely nothing. Whether you're a homebody who loves a quiet evening in, a busy professional balancing a packed schedule or simply someone who wants a furry companion without the overwhelm, there's a dog out there who matches your energy (or lack thereof).
If you're a prospective pet parent, finding a dog breed that naturally fits your lifestyle is the key to a smooth, stress-free transition into pet parenthood. These 10 low-maintenance, lovably laidback dogs prove that there is always a breed out there for just about anyone. Even if you have no experience with having a dog before, these pups will make it seem easy (even if we know it’s not).
Low Energy, High Reward: Why a "Lazy" Dog Is a Smart First ChoiceRafal Jedrzejek/Unsplash
Choosing a low-energy breed as your first dog is one of the smartest moves a new pet parent can make. Lower-maintenance breeds give first-timers the breathing room to learn the ropes of dog ownership without feeling completely overwhelmed from day one.
When you're not scrambling to exhaust a high-drive dog with two-hour runs and endless fetch sessions, you have more mental space to focus on bonding, training, establishing routines and understanding your dog's personality. A calmer dog also tends to be more forgiving of the inevitable rookie mistakes, like an inconsistent feeding schedule or a training session that goes sideways.
Beyond the practical perks, low-energy dogs are exceptional companions. They're content to curl up next to you on the couch, follow you from room to room at a leisurely pace and soak up affection without demanding constant entertainment. For anyone easing into pet parenthood, that kind of easy, reciprocal companionship is exactly the foundation you need.
10 Best Low-Maintenance Breeds for First-Time OwnersThese are the low-maintenance dog breeds to keep in mind if you're a first-time dog parent.
PugRebecca Campbell/Unsplash
Famed for their wrinkly faces, the pug is basically a professional napper. These compact little comedians are endlessly entertaining, deeply affectionate and surprisingly easygoing about their daily activity needs. They thrive on human companionship and adapt well to apartment living, making them a top pick for first-time owners in any living situation.
French BulldogGeo Chierchia/Unsplash
The French bulldog has skyrocketed to one of the most popular breeds in the country, and it's not hard to see why. Frenchies are playful and charming, but have a low exercise threshold that makes them wonderfully manageable for new owners. They're happy with a couple of short daily walks and plenty of indoor lounging. Highly adaptable and deeply devoted to their people, French bulldogs slot into almost any lifestyle with ease. Like pugs, they're a brachycephalic breed, so hot and humid conditions should be avoided.
Cavalier King Charles SpanielGeoff Oliver/Unsplash
If you're looking for a dog that radiates warmth and gentleness, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is basically canine comfort personified. These lovely dogs are gentle, quiet and famously adaptable in any living condition. They enjoy moderate walks but are just as content snuggled up on your lap for the afternoon. Cavaliers are also known for being easy to train and getting along beautifully with kids and other pets, which makes them one of the most beginner-friendly breeds out there.
Basset HoundTina Morlock/Unsplash
The basset hound is the epitome of a low-key dog. With those long ears, droopy eyes, and slow, deliberate waddle, they practically invented the art of slow living. Bassets are gentle, patient and remarkably easygoing. A leisurely daily walk suits them just fine. They can be a little stubborn when it comes to training, but their laidback temperament more than makes up for it.
MastiffShane Ryan Herilalaina/Unsplash
While mastiffs are enormous, these gentle giants are among the most relaxed, low-energy dogs around. Mastiffs are calm, loyal and deeply devoted to their families. They require surprisingly little exercise for their size and are perfectly happy spending most of the day lounging around the house. Their natural calm makes them great for first-time owners who want a big, protective presence without a high-maintenance lifestyle. Pet parents should just get used to immense amounts of drool.
Shih Tzuloerat poodles/Unsplash
Bred to be a companion, Shih Tzus live for human connection and are happiest when they're close to their people. They have low exercise needs and adapt effortlessly to apartment or house living. Their long, flowing coat does require regular grooming, but many owners opt for a shorter "puppy cut" to keep things easy. Shih Tzus are also known for being warm and friendly with just about everyone they meet, which makes them an especially joyful first dog.
Boston TerrierOskar Kadaksoo/Unsplash
While the Boston terrier can be quite the tornado, they’re not always such chaos. These dapper dogs are lively and playful in short bursts, but they settle down quickly and don't require intense daily exercise. They're smart, eager to please and relatively easy to train—a great combination for first-time owners. Boston terriers are also compact, clean and low-shedding, which is a bonus for anyone who'd prefer not to vacuum every single day. They're social butterflies who love people, making every day with them feel a little brighter.
Labrador RetrieverIvan Louis/Unsplash
While Labs are not the laziest dogs on this list, they’ve earned their place because of their ability to be easily trained and their extreme patience. For first-time owners who want a slightly more active companion without sacrificing temperament, the Lab is a near-perfect choice. They're forgiving, adaptable and eager to please, which means even rookie training mistakes don't derail the relationship. Daily walks and some playtime keep them happy, and their loyalty and warmth make the extra effort more than worth it.
HavaneseOlivia Spink/Unsplash
Tiny but mighty, the Havanese is a small companion dog with a cheerful, adaptable personality that makes them a dream for new owners. They don't need a ton of exercise outside of short walks, and indoor play sessions keep them perfectly content. Havanese are also hypoallergenic-friendly, which is a significant perk for allergy-conscious households. Sweet-tempered and sociable, they tend to get along well with everyone, from small children to strangers.
Bichon FriseNick Fewings/Unsplash
The Bichon Frise is a small dog with a big heart and a mellow approach to life. They thrive on affection, adapt well to different living environments and don't require intense daily exercise to stay happy. Like the Havanese, they're low-shedding, which is great news for your home. Bichons are also known for being gentle and patient, making them a wonderful match for first-time owners of all ages.

"Lazy" Doesn't Mean "Zero Maintenance": What Beginners Need to KnowJoshua Fernandez/Unsplash
While the idea of lounging around all day with your new dog is nice, it’s important to note that low energy doesn’t mean zero effort. Every dog, no matter how slow-paced they seem, still requires consistent care, attention and checkups.
For starters, all dogs need regular vet visits, vaccinations, parasite prevention and dental care. Low-energy breeds also have their own breed-specific health considerations. Brachycephalic breeds like pugs, French bulldogs and Boston terriers need careful monitoring in heat; larger low-energy breeds like mastiffs tend to be more prone to joint issues; and Cavaliers have a predisposition to heart conditions. Knowing your breed's health profile from day one is part of being a responsible owner.
Grooming is another area where "low-maintenance" can be difficult to fulfill. Shih Tzus and Bichons need regular brushing and professional grooming, while basset hounds need their long ears cleaned frequently to prevent infections. Even short-coated dogs need the occasional bath and nail trim.
And although these breeds don't need hours of intense exercise, they still benefit from daily movement and mental stimulation to keep them healthy and balanced.
The Difference Between a Naturally Lazy Dog and a Bored DogCarlos Felipe Ramírez Mesa/Unsplash
A naturally low-energy dog is relaxed, calm and content, but a bored dog can look extremely similar. While they aren’t the same, boredom in a dog can be a gateway to various issues.
For one, a bored dog might sleep a lot, but they'll also chew things they shouldn't, bark excessively, follow you anxiously from room to room or find increasingly creative ways to cause chaos. Boredom can be a sign of unmet needs that, over time, affect their overall well-being.
The good news is that meeting those needs doesn't have to be complicated. For lower-energy breeds, short daily walks, brief training sessions and some casual play are usually enough to keep boredom at bay. Rotating toys, introducing sniff-based enrichment like hiding treats around the house or even just spending quality time together can make a difference.
No matter if your dog is low-maintenance or not, the best thing you can give any dog is time, your attention and the security of knowing they're truly at home.
Aldi's $8 Dog Towel Does Something Regular Towels Simply Can't—and Pet Parents Love It
Most dog towels are regular towels with a paw print on the tag. They absorb water, soak through in about 30 seconds, and then end up on the bathroom floor until someone deals with them.
Aldi has something different for pet parents who know the look of a dog getting out of the pool, completely soaked, and then launching into a full-body shake.
Heart to Tail Emerald Stripe Wearable Pet Towel, $7.99 at AldiAldi
What makes the Heart to Tail Emerald Stripe Wearable Pet Towel special is its design. Made to make drying off a bit easier for pet parents and their dogs after wet adventures, it costs only $7.99.
The difference between this one and most pet towels is how it wraps around the dog and stays in place while you brush him off. The microfiber does most of the work. Instead of using both hands to hold a standard towel against your wriggling and shaking dog, you secure it and let the material absorb everything.
And if you have a long-haired dog, you know drying takes much longer than expected. With a regular towel, moisture might remain trapped beneath the outer fur. This towel absorbs all moisture while your dog relaxes.
Related: The #1 Mistake Dog Owners Make During Summer Walks, According to Vets
Microfiber Sets New StandardsMicrofiber absorbs a lot more than regular cloths. That absorbency advantage comes from the fiber structure itself. Microfiber pulls moisture away from fur rather than pressing against it.
Here is another difference. Most regular towels remain damp for 12 hours. Microfiber dries within an hour or two. That means you can use it several times per day instead of waiting to dry.
Simple Product for Daily FrustrationPet parents love a product that solves small daily frustrations. This wearable towel is not flashy; it is practical.
The concept is simple. Wrap absorbent material around your dog so that it absorbs moisture over time. Rather than moisture spreading throughout the house, the towel absorbs it all.
Most importantly, this towel makes summer adventures a lot more fun. Cleanup is easier. Instead of thinking ahead and worrying about what happens if you take your dog to the lake, you keep a peace of mind knowing you have a product at home that will help.
Let's be honest. The goal is not to stop dogs from getting dirty or wet. The goal is to make cleanup easier so that we can say yes to more adventures.

Baby Chick Born Without a Neck Looks Just Like a Little 'Meatball on Legs'
As the proud mom of my own Meatball (my giant Maine Coon, not an actual meatball... although the resemblance is sometimes questionable), I was already emotionally invested the second I learned this tiny baby chick -- who was born without a neck -- is also named Meatball. There was simply no chance I wasn't going to fall completely in love with him.
Then I saw his sweet little face.
Friends... he really does look like a meatball on legs.
A very tiny, very determined, very precious meatball who deserves unlimited snacks and absolutely zero criticism.
@lilly_coltoni know i keep saying he but it’s a she don’t roast me its habit #chickens #disability #nonecked #funny
♬ original sound - lilly coltonThe heartwarming video was shared by @Lilly_colton, who recently brought home 15 baby chicks but quickly noticed one little guy looked different from the rest.
She explains that for days, she couldn't quite figure out what seemed off.
He struggled to walk, spreading his tiny wings to help balance himself before tumbling over.
He was also much smaller than his siblings.
Then it hit her.
"He looks like a meatball on legs... he doesn't have a neck."
When she gently holds him up to the camera, it's easy to see what she means. Compared to the other chicks, little Meatball appears to have almost no visible neck at all.
Instead of making fun of him, though, his chicken mom is simply trying to understand how to help him.
Viewers Offered Support for Meatball• "Wry neck!!!! His muscles are very contracted. It can be a vitamin B deficiency, a dip in temperature in the incubator or genetic."
• "He might have a condition called wry neck and need to have some vitamin supplementation. Never hurts to just supplement and try."
• "He looks fine to me, stop judging him."
• "I love Meatball."
• "There's nothing wrong with him. He's perfect in my eyes. And he brings me joy."
• "I have one like this that I also raised from a chick. Her name is Esmeralda and she's doing great two years later."
I absolutely lost it at the comment saying, "He looks fine to me, stop judging him."
Exactly.
Leave my tiny spherical son alone.
He's out here doing his best.
If you think your own chick may have wry neck or another medical condition, it's important to contact a veterinarian or an experienced poultry veterinarian for guidance. Wry neck can have several possible causes, including nutritional deficiencies or congenital issues, and getting professional advice early gives your chick the best chance of receiving care.
Meanwhile, I'll be over here rooting for little Meatball.
Because every Meatball deserves a happy ending.

Some dogs stay in the shelter longer than others for various reasons. Age, temperament, breed, and potential health issues can play a part in decision-making when potential pet parents consider adoption. Senior Cat Melts Hearts by 'Asking for Pets' Hours After Finally Being Adopted
There’s something extra wonderful about a senior pet realizing they’re safe.
Kittens are adorable, of course. Puppies are chaos in the shape of tiny bodies. But senior animals have this different kind of sweetness. They don’t always come bursting into a new home like they own the place. Sometimes, they arrive quietly. They observe. They wait. Then, when they’re ready, they make one tiny brave move that feels bigger than anything.
That’s exactly what Frasier does.
In the video, the newly adopted senior cat is sitting close to his new mom just hours after coming home. She’s on the floor with him, which already feels like the right choice. No pressure. No hovering. Just a calm person giving him space to decide what comes next.
@gryffgrumblesIf you’re considering adopting a cat dont overlook the seniors! They have so much love to give❤️ #rescuecat #seniorcat
♬ original sound - MeowAnd what comes next is almost too sweet.
Frasier reaches out and gives her leg a little tap.
Not a swat. Not a demand. Just the gentlest, “Excuse me, I think I would like some love now.”
The caption explains that he had been adopted only a couple of hours earlier, and yet he was already brave enough to ask for pets. That detail makes the whole moment so soft. This wasn't a cat who needed weeks to remember what affection felt like. Something in him recognized kindness quickly, and he reached for it.
The post caption also asks people not to overlook senior cats, because they still have so much love to give. Frasier is basically living proof. He isn't hiding under a bed or shutting down. He's reaching out. He's choosing connection with a person he barely knows, which is such a vulnerable little act from an animal starting over.
One commenter said you can tell Frasier has known human kindness before and still longs for it, which is a heartbreaking and beautiful way to describe what’s happening. You really can see that in his body language. Those little taps feel like a memory of love meeting the possibility of more.
That’s what makes senior adoption so special. You’re not getting “less” because the animal is older. You’re getting a whole personality, a whole history, and a heart that may be very ready to love someone again.
Frasier's new mom didn't just adopt a kitty. She gave an older gentleman a soft place to land, and he responded by asking, very politely, if this new life came with pats. 🥹
Thankfully, it does.
And if that tiny tap doesn’t convince people to give senior cats a second look, I’m not sure what will.
Why Senior Cats Make Such Loving CompanionsSenior cats can be wonderful roommates because many already know how to live with people, enjoy routines, and settle into calm homes. If you adopt one, give them quiet space, soft places to rest, and time to come to you. When they do reach out, even in a tiny way, treat it like the big deal it is.
The ASPCA shares that cats need a safe, comfortable environment, regular care, and attention to changes in behavior or health. With senior cats, those small daily comforts can help them feel secure while they adjust.
Frasier only needed a few hours to ask for love, and that little paw tap sealed the deal.

Golden Retriever Puppy Turns Into a 'Sleepy Marshmallow' When It's Time for Bed
We all have those times when we just want to go to sleep but have to fight the urge to close our eyes. You've seen it on others — the droopy eyelids, the head bobbing up and down, the blank stare. That yearning to hit the hay and head to dreamland is incredibly overpowering and can even look adorable on kids and fur babies who are doing their best to stay awake.

"Does anyone else's puppy turn into a baby seal when they're sleepy?" the on-screen text asked.
Followers fell in love with the fatigued fur baby and commented on their own sleepy pooches:
- "That’s the cutest baby seal I’ve ever seen," one remarked.
- "That’s not a puppy — that’s a sleepy marshmallow," another noted.
- "My boy turns into a lemur," a follower shared.
- "Mine turns into shark when she's not sleeping," someone posted.
Most puppies spend their first few weeks of life napping and need between 18 and 20 hours of sleep per day. Golden Retriever pups up to 12 weeks old usually spend most of the day slumbering as their bodies develop.
Between 3 and 4 months old, Golden puppies' sleep needs cut down to about 16 to 18 hours a day. They become more active and curious, with nap times getting shorter.
At 4 to 6 months, puppies start developing more predictable sleep patterns. They still need about 14 to 16 hours of sleep daily, but they are more alert and energetic at this stage.

When a Golden Retriever pup is about 6 months to 1 year, they usually have longer nighttime sleep with less naps throughout the day. These puppies clock in approximately 12 to 14 hours of sleep per day. Providing regular exercise and sticking to a schedule greatly benefits your puppy's growth and development.
Saint is clearly still in the early stages of life so he may have that adorable heavy-eyed look for a few more months.

Mama Bengal Cat and Her Babies Are Giving Supermodel Family Energy
I like to think I'm a pretty secure person, but then I see a family of Bengal cats this ridiculously beautiful and suddenly I'm questioning everything. Honestly, these cats have better cheekbones than I do. It's rude, really.
I also know Bengal cats are incredibly high-energy, mischievous, and require a lot of attention. They're basically tiny spotted athletes with unlimited batteries. And yet ... if someone handed me every single one of these kittens, I'd probably say, "Sure, I can make room for eight more." Future me would deal with the consequences.

And somehow every single kitten won the genetic lottery.

Many Bengal parents invest in tall cat trees, puzzle toys, and interactive games to keep these active felines mentally and physically stimulated. Without enough enrichment, Bengals can become bored and invent their own entertainment — which may or may not involve opening cabinets or sprinting through the house at 2 a.m.
For the right family, though, Bengals are affectionate, playful companions with personalities every bit as bold as their beautiful coats.

7 Best ‘Nanny’ Dog Breeds for Families, According to Trainers
There's no denying that choosing the right dog requires careful thought and planning. That's why when you're considering adding a devoted companion to your family, you should take your time and make sure you find one that's right for you, especially if you have children.
That’s where “nanny dogs” come in. The term “nanny dog breeds” is often used to describe dogs that are especially gentle, patient, and reliable around kids. While it isn’t an official breed classification, it’s a popular nickname for dogs known for their calm temperament, strong bonds, and natural attentiveness. For many families searching for child-friendly dog breeds, these traits can make all the difference when choosing a lifelong companion.
So, what exactly makes a dog a good nanny? If you’re not familiar with the term, you’re not alone. A “nanny dog” isn’t a formal breed category, but rather a nickname used to describe dogs known for being affectionate, steady, and good with kids. Even if some have a strong or muscular build, it’s their temperament—not their appearance—that defines them. With proper training and socialization, they can become dependable, well-balanced companions and some of the best dogs for families with kids.
So if you're on the hunt for a pup, here are the 7 best nanny dogs for families, according to a trainer. The best part is, they include both big and small dog breeds.

7 Best Nanny Dog Breeds for Families with ChildrenWhile it's hard to say that any one breed is the best nanny dogs, there are certain canines with a reputation for being some of the friendliest and most patient pups, points out Elisha Stynchula, CPDT-KA, certified dog trainer.
Newfoundland A young girl getting a kiss from a Newfoundland. When you think of a family dog for children, a Newfie may come to mind. "Newfoundlands are gentle giants," Stynchula points out.
The Newfoundland is one of the largest dog breeds, but they don’t use that big size to wreck havoc. This breed is loving, kind and loyal. They are also known for their love of children, making them a great fit for any families with little ones. But while this breed is big, their energy levels aren’t incredibly high. As a result, your Newfoundland will love to play and nap, pretty much equally.
Breed Stats- Personality: Devoted, sweet, patient
- Height: 26-28 inches
- Weight: 100-150 pounds
- Lifespan: 9-10 years
You may recognize this gentle giant from Disney’sPeter Pan, where Nana—the Darling family’s devoted nursemaid dog—is often portrayed as a Saint Bernard. While fictional, the character reflects the breed’s long-standing reputation for being watchful, patient, and deeply loyal to children.
So, if you’re looking for a large breed often recommended for families, the Saint Bernard is an amazing choise. Stynchula explains, “Like the Newfoundland, the Saint Bernard is calm and affectionate with a sweet, easygoing nature. For many families, these personality traits are important.”
It’s this combination of that makes the Saint Bernard such a trusted nanny dog for families. It's no surprise experts say they're one of the best dogs for kids.
Breed Stats- Personality: Playful, charming, inquisitive
- Height: 26-30 inches
- Weight: 120-180 pounds
- Lifespan: 8-10 years
If you prefer a smaller dog, Stynchula suggests the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel! “This pooch was originally bred for royalty as a companion and lapdog, which translates well to many families with kids,” she says. “They are a solid family dog with a reputation for simply being nice. Plus, they love being around people and are eager to please.”
Known for their affectionate and gentle nature, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels tend to thrive in close-knit family environments. Their mellow temperament and strong desire for companionship make them especially well-suited for homes with children, where they can easily adapt to both playtime and quiet moments. Who wouldn’t love one of these pups?
Breed Stats- Personality: Affectionate, gentle, friendly, adaptable
- Height: 12–13 inches
- Weight: 13–18 pounds
- Lifespan:12–15 years

The Bernese Mountain Dog is chill and affectionate, which is a surprising contrast to the breed’s oversized build. “For many families, calm might be very important for their child and lifestyle,” Stynchula says.
Ashley Reely, a professional dog trainer at Meraki Dogs, also praises this breed. “Bernese Mountain Dogs are big, goofy and loyal,” she says. Reely also notes that this breed is friendly toward nearly everyone, which is a personality trait that can come in handy if you have caregivers in and out of your house. Also worth noting: The Bernese Mountain Dog is strong, just in case you need help hauling or lifting things around your home.
Breed Stats- Personality: Good-natured, calm, strong
- Height: 23-27.5 inches
- Weight: 70-115 pounds
- Lifespan: 7-10 years
Believe it or not, even though the Staffordshire Bull Terrier cuts an intimidating figure thanks to its muscular build, this pup is all heart. “The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a good option as well,” Stynchula reveals, adding this this pup is “sturdy and sweet.”
Just keep in mind that this breed has a little more energy than others on our list, so be prepared to give your pup plenty of space to run. Still, “they have a reputation of being known as ‘nanny dog,’” Stynchula says. This breed craves time with its humans and loves to be physically close, creating a cuddle buddy for the entire family.
Breed Stats- Personality: Clever, brave, tenacious
- Height: 14-16 inches
- Weight: 24-38 pounds
- Lifespan: 12-15 years
Besides being pretty, the Shih Tzu is also an amazing dog for kids of all ages thanks to the fact that they were bred to be a companion and lapdog. “Cuddly and affectionate, they are happy to lie with you until it's time for a walk,” Stynchula explains.
The Shih Tzu is also typically quiet, which can be a helpful trait in family homes where a calmer environment is preferred. They are generally eager to please and can be relatively easy to train with consistency and patience. In addition, they do not require a high level of exercise or intense mental stimulation, but you do want to keep grooming n mind. “These pups have moderate grooming needs, but their coat can easily be kept in a shorter style,” Stynchula says, helping to manage upkeep while maintaining their signature look.
Breed Stats- Personality: Playful, affectionate, outgoing
- Height: 9-10.5 inches
- Weight: 9-16 pounds
- Lifespan: 10-18 years
The Beagle has a hunting dog past, but this breed is now known for its kind personality. “Beagles are sweet dogs we all remember from childhood movies and books,” Stynchula says.
Beagles are usually friendly and gentle with nearly everyone. They also have a generally upbeat nature, which is a perk for all households. Just one thing to keep in mind, per Stynchula: “If your child is sound-sensitive, a beagle is not the best match.” Though, for all other families, this sweet-natured, kid-loving pooch is worth a look.
Breed Stats- Personality: Curious, friendly, merry
- Height: 13-15 inches
- Weight: 20-30 pounds
- Lifespan: 10–15 years

16-Year-Old Dachshund's Epic Post-Bath Zoomies Are as Sweet as It Gets
It doesn't matter how old your dog is when it comes to zoomies.
When they have the zoomies, even a senior dog will turn into a little puppy again.
That is very evident in a new video of a 16-year-old pup having some epic Dachshund zoomies after he takes a bath, and viewers can't get enough of it.

♬ Can't Stop The Feeling! - Platinum PartyViewers in the comments section found this senior dog behavior quite relatable.
One person shared that their 15-year-old Dachshund also still gets the zoomies.
Zoomies are not just a young man's (or pup's) game.
They are for pups of all ages!

What Do Zoomies Actually Mean?So what do dog zoomies actually mean, and why do they happen?
First of all, let’s define zoomies.
Zoomies are sudden bursts of energy, and dogs release that energy by sprinting back and forth, running around in circles, bouncing up and down, and jumping all over furniture (and sometimes humans and cats).
There is actually a technical name for zoomies, which is frenetic random activity periods (FRAPs), according to the American Kennel Club.
But FRAPs aren’t quite as fun to say as zoomies!
So why do dogs get zoomies?
“There is no known specific cause of FRAPs in dogs,” Dr. Pamela J. Perry '89, DVM, behavior resident at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, said in an interview. “However, they appear to be a way to release pent-up energy, or perhaps, to alleviate stress. A dog who has been home alone all day with nothing to do may feel the need to zoom around the house or yard to expend some of that energy and get some relief from hours of under-stimulation. FRAPs also can occur whenever a dog becomes very excited (e.g., when an owner returns after a long absence)."
You may notice that sometimes pups get the zoomies after a bath or getting caught in the rain outside, and that is the case with this senior Dachshund, who got a big case of the zoomies after his bath.
It sometimes occurs after the pooch gets wet because they may have built up some tension in the rain or the bath, and now they need to release it by running around!
But dogs can also get morning bursts of the zoomies after a good playdate, after a productive walk, or when a parent comes home from being away for a bit.
Older dogs do still get zoomies, as we see here, but it is less frequent than in younger pups.

Rare Shar-Pei-Cocker-Spaniel Mix Looks Just Like a Mini Hippo
Certain hybrid dogs have become very popular over the years due to their playful personalities and low-shedding fur. Goldendoodles, Maltipoos, and Schnoodles are top picks for families since these crossbreeds are basically social butterflies with easy-to-maintain coats. Plus, they're adorable love bugs.
Bailey is a unique mix of Shar-Pei and Cocker Spaniel and boasts a coat that gives her a head-turning appearance.
@beeing.baileyBailey THE Mini Hippo ALWAYS has her tail wagging. Do you love her as much as she loves you!
♬ All We Do Is Smile Today - AI.BGM.StreamIn the TikTok from @beeing.bailey, the precious pooch was lying on the couch with her favorite stuffed animal, enjoying some "me" time. Bailey wagged her tail and jumped up a little in excitement, yet her movements weren't the most eye-catching part.
The canine cutie's golden wrinkly fur looked like someone could easily sink right into and get lost. Bailey's eyes were buried in floofiness with her head framed by floppy, pillow-like ears. The caption likened the rare crossbreed to an adorable semi-aquatic mammal.
"Bailey the Mini Hippo ALWAYS has her tail wagging," the text shared.
While some followers suspected Bailey was part Golden Retriever, all agreed that the Shar-Pei Cocker Spaniel was irresistible:
- "Love her cuteness overloaded," one remarked.
- "Who wouldn't love that face...," another commented.
- "I just want to cuddle with that beautiful baby," someone remarked.
The Shar-Pei Cocker Spaniel combo is a newer hybrid that's gaining popularity. These compact, wrinkled, and adorably charming dogs have a unique facial structure and body build, earning them the moniker of "Mini Hippo."
The mix of a Cocker Spaniel's playful and friendly spirit with the Shar-Pei's loyalty and protective nature makes this crossbreed a wonderful family pet. Add their distinctive creased and crinkly coats, and these canines easily melt hearts.
The Mini Hippos can weigh between 40 and 65 pounds and stand at 18 to 21 inches in height at adulthood. Their facial folds need daily cleaning to prevent bacterial accumulation in the wrinkles.
The Shar-Pei heritage of a compressed muzzle can lead to brachycephalic risk, so these dogs should avoid exercising in excessive heat.
This crossbreed may be prone to ear infections due to the Shar-Pei’s narrow ear canals and the Cocker Spaniel’s long ears that can trap moisture and debris. Cleaning your Mini Hippo's ears regularly helps to limit any issues.
Overall, Mini Hippos are obviously over-the-top adorable and, like Bailey, could win anyone's heart.

Why Are Labs so Popular? Photo by Chathura Anuradha Subasinghe on UnsplashPhoto by Chathura Anuradha Subasinghe on Unsplash
Like so many breeds that are considered popular, Labs are a popular choice because of their outgoing personalities, flexibility, trainability, and the fact that they make incredible family dogs. Born to be working dogs, labs are people pleasers who love to "work" and do different activities.
Additionally, labs have very balanced energies. They can be excitable and ready to go, but they're also content to lounge around and nap. This makes them work well in households with varying personalities.
Last but certainly not least, labs are well known for being super loyal, affectionate, and patient with their people. This makes them fit in naturally to their human pack and be a fabulous, life-long friend.

Road Tripping With a Cat? The Only 4 Litter Box Hacks You Need to Know
Heading on the road with your cat is a fun way to bond with them and help them explore the world at the same time. However, as much fun as it is to travel with your favorite feline, there's one very important aspect to figure out in advance: how your cat will go to the bathroom.
While most road trippers will calculate stops along the way, that doesn't always mean your cat is willing to go on schedule. Figuring out when and how your cat will go to the bathroom on a road trip is only part of the issue. You'll also need to convince your feline friend to use their litter box outside of their usual space.
🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾
Cats are creatures of habit, and their bathroom routine is no exception. A litter box that smells unfamiliar, sits in an awkward spot or gets jostled around in the backseat can be enough of a change to put them off using it entirely. Add in the stress of a moving vehicle, new sounds and changing scenery, and you've got a recipe for a very uncomfortable cat (and a very stressed-out pet parent).
Getting a cat to use the litter box at home is one thing. Getting them to go on a road trip? That's another challenge entirely.
The good news? A little preparation goes a long way. Whether you're embarking on a weekend getaway or a cross-country adventure, these four litter box hacks will help keep your cat comfortable, your car clean and your road trip on track.
Why Cats Refuse to 'Go' on the Goafrica_pink/Shutterstock
For cats, using the bathroom while on the road is far from ideal—and according to a veterinarian, it's not just stubbornness at play.
"Traveling can be extremely stressful, especially for our feline friends," says Dr. Katie Merkatoris, a licensed veterinarian in Madison, Wisconsin. "When animals are stressed and in fight-or-flight mode, the rest-and-digest functions of the body, such as urination and defecation, are often suppressed. Leaving feces and urine in the environment allows predators to track them, so many cats will refuse to urinate until they are back in a 'safe' environment with familiar sights and smells."
In other words, your cat isn't holding it out of spite. They're hardwired to wait until they feel safe, and the open road doesn't exactly signal safety to them.

Litter Box Hacks for Traveling With a CatBefore you get in the car with your cat, these are the four litter box tips you need to know.
1. Introduce a Portable Litter Box EarlyDmytro Surkov/Shutterstock
An unfamiliar litter box in an unfamiliar place can feel like a double threat to a cat. To help take the edge off, start preparing your cat in a place they're familiar with—their home.
"Cats are creatures of habit," says Dr. Nathaniel Rakestraw, a veterinarian with TelaVets.com. "If the litter box, litter type or location suddenly changes, some cats will refuse to use it altogether. Whenever possible, I recommend introducing the travel litter box at home several days or even weeks before the trip. Familiar litter is usually more important than finding a special travel product."
The goal is simple: by the time the trip starts, the litter box shouldn't feel new.
2. Break Up Long TripsImage via Shutterstock/Photo Sprint
It's tempting to push through and cover as many miles as possible, but your cat's bathroom schedule may require a different pace.
Dr. Merkatoris recommends offering your cat access to the litter box every four to six hours. This gives them enough time to build up the urge to use the bathroom without being pressured to use the litter box too frequently. It also helps establish a loose routine that can make roadside litter box visits feel a little more familiar over time.
3. Use Scoops From a Previous Litter BoxNeakasa/Unsplash
Smell is everything to a cat, and a brand-new litter box can feel completely foreign without the right scent cues.
"It's always best to take a few scoops from its previous litter box when offering a new one, so the new box doesn't smell completely foreign to them," says Dr. Matthew Murdoch, veterinarian and director of Ferndale Kennels and Travel Pet Relocation Services.
A small amount of used litter brings a piece of home into an otherwise unfamiliar environment, and that familiarity can help make a difference.
4. Offer Your Cat a Quiet, Secure LocationHusqqqy/Unsplash
Location matters more than you might think. A busy rest stop filled with strange sounds, smells and foot traffic is unlikely to put your cat in the right headspace to use their litter box.
Dr. Rakestraw says a quiet and secluded spot is almost always preferable to cats. When possible, let your cat use the litter box inside the parked car with the doors closed, rather than setting up the litter box in an open or high-traffic area.
What to Do If Your Cat Completely Refuses to Use the BoxJacob Thorson/Unsplash
Some cats will simply hold it for the duration of a trip. While that may sound alarming, it isn't always a cause for concern.
"It can be entirely normal for a cat to hold their bladder for 12 hours if in an unfamiliar environment," Dr. Merkatoris says. "Normal litter box activity should resume within several hours once travel ends. In the meantime, encourage water consumption by keeping water available or offering canned food or tuna, which is high in water content. Pheromone sprays, such as Feliway, can also help reduce stress. If you know your cat is likely to be overly stressed, consider discussing medication options with your veterinarian before any trips."
If you already know your cat refuses to use the litter box on long drives, a pre-trip vet conversation is a smart move; both to confirm they can safely hold it and to explore any options that might help.
Dehydration vs. Stress: Knowing When to Call a Vet on the RoadAli Kazal/Unsplash
Not every bathroom refusal is behavioral. In some cases, a cat may be physically unable to go, and that's a different situation entirely.
"Mild stress may cause a cat to hide, eat less than usual or skip a litter box visit during the first part of a trip," Dr. Rakestraw says. "What concerns me more is persistent vomiting, profound lethargy, labored breathing, signs of pain, repeated attempts to urinate without success, or a cat that has gone an unusually long time without drinking or urinating. Those situations deserve a call to a veterinarian rather than a wait-and-see approach."
Dr. Murdoch adds that male cats in particular should be monitored closely, as difficulty urinating in males may signal a serious and potentially urgent medical issue.
A cat that won't use the litter box on a road trip is usually just a stressed cat doing what stressed cats do. With a familiar box, some used litter, regular stops and a quiet spot to do their thing, most cats can be coaxed into making it work—even if it takes a little extra patience along the way.

Majestic Black and Gray Maine Coon Parents Get 'The Best of Both Worlds' in Their Stunning Kittens
When it comes to kittens, I think Maine Coon kittens are among the most beautiful. There's something about their gorgeous colors and fluffy coats, even from birth, that really makes them irresistible.

They're so tiny they haven't even opened their eyes yet, but judging by the size of their parents, they won't be tiny for long!

What Determines a Maine Coon's Coloring? As Petful points out, there are 75 Maine Coon colors that are recognized by the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA), so it would be a huge understatement to say that the possibilities of what a kitten could look like are vast.
But just like with humans, the way a Maine Coon kitten will look all comes down to genetics, and that includes their coat color. The 75 colors are the different color and pattern combinations that are possible when breeding these cats.
First, a Maine Coon will have a base color, which are black, cream, red, blue, and white, and the pattern of their coat will vary from there, depending on whether or not they're a tabby variation, have smoke or silver genes in their bloodline, or have bicolor white spotting. Female Maine Coons may also have some tortoiseshell or calico patterns mixed in.
The way that these kittens' parents' genes combined created a litter of kittens who are the perfect mix of them both. They are so beautiful!

Meet Reggie. He is a blue French Bulldogwith giant bat ears, soulful eyes and a face that permanently says "Whatcha doing?" He is equal parts adorable, nosy and determined to be involved in absolutely everything. If you sit down for five seconds he is already in your lap, your business and your heart. He is also, as of this TikTok, the CEO of Velcro Dogs and he takes that title very seriously.

♬ Welp, Didn't Expect That - Yu-Peng Chen & HOYO-MiXWhat follows is Reggie going from zero to absolute chaos in the time it takes to exhale. The snorts arrive first. Then those frenchie grunts and then, the zoomies. Then whatever specific noise he makes that his mom felt required documentation and three crying-laugh emojis. The sounds alone are a whole event. The zoomies are a separate event all together. Together they are an experience.
The comments understood instantly:
"They are so bossy 😭"
"Alter ego....our Frenchie Metz has one....we call it Benny Badass 😆"
Benny Badass. A French Bulldog alter ego with an official name. Every Frenchie parent reading this just nodded in agreement.
"I told him to get off the couch and he proceeded to climb higher and look at me like this."
"Often when I sit down one of my frenchies pretends they need the toilet, so I get up to let them outside and they run to sit where I was sat 😂"

Stop. A French Bulldog faking a bathroom emergency specifically to steal a warm seat is the most strategically advanced behavior documented in this entire comment section. And, as a Frenchie mom of two, I can vouch that this is top notch frenchie mischievousness. This dog planned it. This dog executed it. He’s sitting in that warm spot right now.
"Pure trouble"
Two simple words. Completely accurate.
The chaos that follows them is not random. It’s a whole personality trait built into the breed.
Why French Bulldogs Are Basically Tiny Chaos Agents With Very Big FeelingsHere’s the thing about French Bulldogs. According to Houndsy, they’re best described as "clowns in the cloak of a philosopher" and if you have ever lived with one you already know exactly what that means. You also know that it is 1000% true.
Frenchies are what the source calls velcro dogs. They don’t just want to be near you - they want to be part of you. They adore you. They want to be touching you at all times. They were bred specifically to be companions and they take that job very seriously. This is why Reggie cannot allow 5 milliseconds of sitting down go unaddressed. It’s literally his job.
The noises are a whole communication system. Houndsy explains that Frenchies are not big barkers but they can be extremely vocal in other ways. Grunts, snorts, loud yawns and a sound many Frenchie parents describe as talking are all part of how they ask for attention and express how they are feeling. She captured the entire conversation.
Though zoomies make complete sense too. Houndsy describes Frenchies as being able to go from a high-energy zoomie session to a three-hour nap without any transition whatsoever. The 5 milliseconds of peace mom got was not rest. It was a loading screen.
Frenchies are also deeply tuned into their humans' emotions and will actively try to change the mood in a room. If Reggie's mom was putting out the vibe that she was about to relax, that was a situation requiring immediate action.
French Bulldogs are highly intelligent and deeply motivated by comfort and closeness. Fully committed to being wherever their person is or in this case wherever their person was just sitting.
The alarm will sound again. It always does. His mama wouldn’t have it any other way.

Ragdoll Cat Throws a Tantrum and People Say He Looks Like a 'Mad Bunny Thumping'
Ragdoll cats are supposed to be the chillest cats in the world. Floppy. Gentle. Unbothered by practically everything. Tora has something to say about that.
The TikTok from @ttorara has a one-word caption that does a lot of heavy lifting: "Anger."
That is it. That is the whole caption. And somehow it is exactly enough.
Tora's a walking cloud. Thick and fluffy in shades of white, gray and brown with bright blue eyes, a pink nose, white mittens and an extra-floofy neck ruff that makes her look like she belongs on a greeting card. Classic Ragdoll charm from every angle.

♬ original sound - ToraWhat follows is Tora in full commitment to her feelings. She shuffles. She thumps. Then she has a plan. She lines up. She considers the moment like someone standing outside a double dutch jump in, watching the ropes, timing the entry. She pulls back. She reconsiders. Maybe it is too risky. Maybe she forgot the plan entirely. It happens. Then she gathers herself, finds her courage and goes straight for the camera with complete conviction.
The comments caught the vibe of the situation:
"Please, search up 'angry skunk' 😭 she's literally doing the same little shuffle."
Stop everything. Search up angry skunk. The comparison has been submitted and it stands.
"Like a mad bunny thumping!"

The most specific and accurate description of the movement ever committed to a comment section.
"Just hoopin and hopperin"
"Why bro tweakin?"
"Why does he cancel his action?"
Every possible human reaction to watching this is in there somewhere. Confusion. Delight. A cross-species comparison nobody asked for and everyone needed. The most charitable interpretation saved for last.
But here's the question everyone's really asking: why does a Ragdoll — the breed famous for going completely limp when you pick them up — have this much to say?
Why Even the Calmest Cat Breeds Have Their MomentsThe Ragdoll's reputation for calm goes way back. According to The Catsite, the breed got its start in Riverside, California in the 1960s. A breeder named Ann Baker had a white longhaired cat named Josephine who started producing kittens so calm and floppy they basically invented the concept of going limp when held. That trait became the breed's signature move and eventually its name.
The real reason is a lot less dramatic. Several generations of very relaxed cats producing more very relaxed cats. The breeding program leaned into calm breeds including Persians and Birmans and the chill personality got passed down right alongside the blue eyes and the floofy neck ruff.
The Catsite describes Ragdolls as affectionate, intelligent, relaxed, gentle and ideal lap cats. They're often called puppy cats because they follow their people around loyally and actively seek out physical affection. They like to stay close to the ground and will happily chase a toy well into their senior years.
So what is going on when one of them goes full mad bunny?
The Catsite notes that Ragdolls are actually energetic and need companionship. They do best with people or other animals around them and loneliness can genuinely affect their mood. Even the calmest and most docile cat has feelings. They just don't always have a plan for them.
Sometimes the feelings come out as a very committed shuffle. Sometimes thumping. Sometimes a double dutch moment of gathering courage before going straight at the camera.
Tora is a Ragdoll. Five minutes later she was probably completely limp on a couch somewhere.
She processed it in her own way
