Siberian Husky Spotted Lurking in the Leaves Is Running Pure Cat Software in a Dog's Body

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 10:48am

For a few seconds, all anyone can see is a fluffy tail buried in a wall of green leaves. It looks suspiciously like a cat hiding in a tree, which is exactly what several viewers thought. Then the Siberian husky emerges, and we have an answer to the mystery.

The video, shared on Reddit‘s r/WhoFeedsWhoHere, shows a husky named Noah investigating a tree covered in English ivy. His mom eventually calls out, “Noah, what are you doing? Noah, you are going to fall,” but Noah seems far more interested in whatever has caught his attention inside the tangled leaves.

Cat Software, Dog Hardware

Siberian huskies are curious and have a strong instinct to investigate movement and small animals. Add in their vocal expressions, and huskies can sometimes leave you wondering whether you live with a dog or an unusually large cat.

The comments on Reddit confirm it. One joked, “Cat software, dog hardware.” Another said, “That tail was definitely giving cat vibes.”

And then a Husky parent confirmed it, “Husky owner, can confirm. Huskies are just 2-3 cats in a fur coat.”

Husky parents describe these dogs as having a wonderful mind of their own.

Huskies Have an Independent Streak

These former sled dogs are famous for being energetic, mischievous and vocal. Their vocal range is amazing, from howling to barking and whining in between. Yet their personality is more complex than that of the stereotypical happy sled dog.

According to the American Kennel Club, these high-energy dogs are independent-minded. They were bred to work in demanding conditions and make decisions while traveling with a team.

Their independent streak is what produces cat-like moments. They will investigate something because it is interesting. Noah, for example, believes there are critters trapped between the ivy leaves.

Like cats, they can be persistent when they want to reach a particular spot. To top it all, they have a reputation for finding creative ways out of places their parents thought were secure.

Noah spotted something inside the tree and climbed in for a closer look. That is the default instinct of huskies and cats.

Watch Your Husky Closely

A golden retriever, which was bred over centuries to work alongside humans, will do what you ask. Meanwhile, a husky will consider it.

That is not a flaw. That is what the breed was designed to do over generations of working in conditions where independent judgment kept them alive.

This is what makes them interesting to watch. And that is exactly why we love Noah. He climbed a tree searching for something, ignored his mom’s concerns, and came back when he was ready. Not a second before that.

He didn’t find a critter, but he found a fan!

Rescue Pug Crowned 'World's Ugliest Dog,' and Everyone's Saying, 'But She's So Cute!'

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 10:33am

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say. What about ugliness? Well, that is left up to the judges of the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest. And, when it comes to dogs, ugly is really not that far off from very, very cute.

Meet Jinny Loo, the 6-year-old Pug who took home the coveted title in her fourth attempt at the prize (last year, she was runner-up.) Those bulging eyes! Those floppy wrinkles! That hanging tongue! What’s not to love? Watch her show off her beauty, ahem ugliness, during her Today show appearance in the video below.

Jinny Loo’s owner, Michelle Grady, told the Today hosts that Jinny Loo’s newfound fame may, in fact, be going to her head. She has already been recognized several times on the streets of New York City, wearing her signature pearl necklace.

This is a far cry from where it all began when Jinny Loo was rescued from the dog meat trade in the mountains for South Korea four years ago. Today, she and Grady live in Ukiah, California, where, according to her biography, Jinny Loo spends her time visiting schools as a rescue dog ambassador, sneaking onto kitchen chairs to put “her amazing tongue into everyone’s food bowls,” and screaming at her reflection in the mirror.

How Are ‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ Winners Actually Chosen?

Dogs have been vying for the Ugliest Dog in the World title for 50 years now! Jinny Loo was one of nine who competed in this year’s competition during the Sonoma County Fair in Santa Rosa, California last Friday.

Anyone can enter their dog into the contest—they just need a photo and a short biography telling the dog’s story. While the dogs strut their stuff like little celebrities on the red carpet, the judges—there were three this year—not only consider their “ugliness,” but their background and biography as well.

The event is not just about finding the world’s ugliest dog but is meant to promote adoption and the idea that all dogs are unique, lovable, and deserving of a wonderful home.

“For 50 years, this event has celebrated the uniqueness of every dog while sharing an important message of compassion, rescue, and acceptance,” said Mandy Clendenen, CEO of the Sonoma-Marin Agricultural Association, in a press release.

As the first place winner, Jinny Lu won a trophy, $5,000, and a trip to New York City to be on the Today show. Her face will also appear on limited-edition cans of MUG Root Beer, a contest sponsor.

Ugly never looked so good!

Havanese's Adorable Toothy Grin Has People Saying He Looks Like Gary Busey

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 10:30am

Chances are you’ve had a conversation about who your celebrity doppelgänger might be… but have you ever considered who your dog’s celebrity doppelgänger might be?

The parents of this Havenese pup, Finn, don’t have to think too hard about the answer to that question, because the internet is already giving it to them. This dog is so obviously Gary Busey, especially when he smiles.

In this video shared by @finnfrehleyandfurr on TikTok, we see Finn lounging on the couch, grinning at the camera. And honestly, the grin is the real star of the show here; somehow, he’s showing every last one of his teeth.

He looks so cute but at the same time, that grin is really impossible not to acknowledge, and commenters wasted no time pointing out how much he looks like Busey, the 82-year-old actor you may have seen in movies like A Star Is Born, Lethal Weapon, and Point Break. And you know what? They’re right.

Look at this photo of Gary Busey and tell me he and this dog are not twins:

If these two were ever to meet, it would be like looking in a mirror.

What Does It Mean When a Dog ‘Smiles’?

When humans smile, it usually means we’re happy — or at least, that’s what we want you to think, even if we’re just being polite. For dogs, it’s not quite the same.

While plenty of dogs like Finn make expressions that look like they’re smiling, it doesn’t always mean they’re intentionally trying to express happiness. There are a few different emotions that look on their face might mean, as dog behavior consultant Russell Hartstein told Chewy.

They might be happy… or they might be stressed, scared, or even showing aggression.

A Corgi looking happy

SeventyFour / Getty Images

The good news? Most of the time, when your dog is smiling, they are probably feeling happy, according to what veterinarian Dr. Jeannine Berger told the outlet.

“They may have just engaged in a run or some play; are slightly panting; their mouth is slightly open; and the corners of the lips are drawn up, making us believe they are smiling,” she said.

This is good news — and if your dog is smiling but unhappy, they’ll probably be showing other cues that make that very clear. Or maybe they’re just trying to do a Gary Busey impression?

German Shepherd Mix Thinks She’s Being Stealthy While Gopher Completely Plays Along

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 10:20am

I’ve watched dogs make questionable choices around yard critters, but Koda, the German Shepherd mix, may have invented a whole new genre: suspense comedy with a gopher soundtrack.

In the video, Koda is frozen near a gopher hole with one paw raised like she’s starring in the world’s most serious backyard spy movie. She doesn’t move randomly. She waits. She listens. Then, when the gopher squeaks, she creeps forward one tiny step.

View this post on Instagram

The video caption points out that her movements are synced with the squeaks, and once you notice it, you cannot unsee it. It’s like she believes the sound is covering her tracks. The gopher squeaks, Koda advances, and the whole thing becomes a cartoon heist where the burglar only moves when thunder hits.

That comparison came straight from the comments, and it’s painfully accurate. One viewer basically saw an old movie scene where thieves smash glass during the storm, except here, the criminal mastermind is a deeply focused dog, and the thunder is one unimpressed gopher.

My favorite part is that Koda thinks she’s winning. She’s giving stealth. She’s giving patience. She’s giving “No one can detect me if I only move during rodent commentary.”

View this post on Instagram

Meanwhile, the gopher seems completely aware of the bit. Koda inches forward. The squeak happens. The game continues. It doesn’t feel like a hunt as much as a tiny underground comedian testing how much power one squeak can have over a very serious pup.

My dogs also like to mess with gophers, but they don’t have this level of theatrical patience. They would have gone from investigation to chaos in about 3 seconds, then looked personally betrayed when the hole didn’t produce a prize. I admire Koda’s commitment, but I can’t relate to the self-control.

Koda is different. She’s method acting. The intense music makes it even better, because her raised paw and slow-motion confidence deserve a full orchestra. She may not be stealthy, but she’s committed, and sometimes that’s funnier.

Why Dogs Get So Focused on Gophers and Backyard Critters

When your dog locks onto a small animal, it can look goofy, but that focus is often instinct taking over. AKC’s guide to dogs and critters breaks down how dogs can move from spotting to stalking to chasing fast, which is why your timing matters.

  • Interrupt early. Once your pup is fully locked in, recall gets harder, so use “leave it” or a cheerful redirect before the chase starts.
  • Protect the wildlife and your dog. Don’t let your dog dig into burrows or corner small animals, since both sides can get hurt.
  • Give the drive somewhere else to go. Fetch, scent games, or structured walks can satisfy that chase brain safely.

Koda’s gopher may be playing along, but your yard critters still deserve a drama-free escape route.

Overweight Rescue Dog on Life-Changing Weight-Loss Journey Gets Best News at Latest Weigh-In

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 10:10am

Street dogs often suffer from malnutrition and have to scavenge for every morsel of food. When these canines live in high-traffic tourist areas, they can actually run the risk of being overfed due to endless scraps and treats given by well-meaning people wanting to share a a special snack with a homeless dog.

Niall Harbison, founder of the Thailand animal rescue Happy Doggo, is currently helping Bella, a street dog who tipped the scales at 93 pounds. Literally obese and unable to get around, Bella is now on a healthy diet and exercise routine and already shedding pounds.

View this post on Instagram

Harbison previously introduced Bella to his social media followers when he first brought her to Happy Doggo last year, severely overweight. After treating her with medication for a thyroid condition and placing her on a three-month wellness regimen, Bella returned to her neighborhood in much healthier shape.

Sadly, the precious pooch regained the weight she lost due to missing her meds and more overfeeding from well-intentioned tourists, so Harbison brought her back to his sanctuary to get her back on track.

“When she first arrived, she weighed 42.2 kg (93 pounds) and could barely move,” the on-screen text from @wearehappydoggo explained as Bella lay on the floor, unable to even stand on her own. “We started a strict weigh-loss plan right away.”

Rather than eating unlimited snacks from tourists, Bella was put on a structured, nutritious meal schedule approved by the Happy Doggo vets. She donned her special workout outfit of headbands and wristbands for her daily exercise regimen, and crushed training in every activity.

Bella’s Hard Work Is Paying Off

Bella recently had her daily weigh-in and is already down by several pounds.

“Stepped on the scale today and clocked in at 37.9 kg,” the caption shared. “That’s a whole 4.3 kg down!”

Thanks to Bella’s dedication, along with the help from Harbison and his team, Bella is on her way to a healthy body and better life.

“She’s getting her bounce back one step at a time, and we couldn’t be prouder of her,” the caption concluded.

German Shepherds Looking Out the Same Car Window Are Giving ‘Clown Car’ Vibes

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 10:00am

When you have a dog who loves to go for car rides, there’s nothing you can do. They’ll learn the signs that you’re about to go somewhere and pounce before you know what hit you. When the weather is nice, it’s so hard not to just say yes!

Recently, one dog mom brought all of her German Shepherds with her and had to run into the store to get something. When she came out, all of the pups were staring out the same window of her car, and it was totally giving “clown car” vibes:

@jadethesablegsd

Imagine walking past a parked car and seeing this 😭 #GermanShepherd #Dog

♬ original sound – jadethesablegsd

Jade the Sable GSD and all of her siblings have to have defied gravity somehow to make this work. I just don’t understand how this was possible! Where were they all standing? Their heads are all in the exact same position. I need a camera inside the car to show me how they did it.

If I saw this while I was walking by, I would be a little convinced that this was actually just one four-headed dog. Someone in the comments said, “I thought they were bats at first,” and honestly, I can see it. They’re so weird for this!

Related: German Shepherd Puppy ‘Meets a Blueberry’ and Makes a Very Clear Enemy

These dogs are really into car rides, and they really like to go for car rides as a group. You can usually catch them all pulling up somewhere at least 3-4 deep, always giving clown car no matter where they go:

@jadethesablegsd

Does anyone else have a clown car… except it’s full of German Shepherds, flying fur and stonk? 😂😫 Every time I open the door another one appears.

♬ original sound – jadethesablegsd

This is amazing. I wish I could witness this myself! I can’t imagine it’s easy, though: trying to wrangle four German Shepherds anywhere must be hard!

Can You Leave Dogs In Your Car?

Jade’s mom left her and her siblings in the car for just a few minutes: the window was obviously completely open, they were comfortable, and they were all strapped in to prevent them from escaping!

Barb / Getty Images

Ideally, you should never leave a dog in a parked car, especially on a hot day, even with the windows down. Just having the windows down doesn’t create air circulation, so it can still get really hot. In some places, doing so is actually illegal. However, if you need to leave them in the car:

  • Make it quick: 10 minutes or less.
  • If it’s longer, make sure you go out to check on them.
  • Instead of rolling the windows down, keep them up and turn on the AC.
  • Leave a human behind with them.

You need to be really careful: people might assume your dog is in danger and break your window or even call the police to get them out. Personally, I would not risk it, but this clown car moment was too sweet!

Little Tuxedo Kitten Has Whiskers That Looks Like Crinkle Cut French Fries

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 9:00am

I have seen cats with long whiskers. I’ve seen cats with ridiculously short whiskers. I’ve even seen cats who accidentally singed their whiskers trying to investigate a candle. But I can honestly say I’ve never seen anything quite like this little tuxedo kitten.

The adorable teenager has the curliest whiskers I’ve ever laid eyes on. They’re not just slightly wavy, either. They look like tiny crinkle cut French fries sticking out of his face, and I mean that in the most complimentary way possible. They’re so wonderfully weird that I immediately watched the video twice just to make sure my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me.

♬ original sound – sonimcrinee90

The hilarious clip was shared by TikTok user @gracelong420 and shows the kitten’s mom holding him up while having him do a little dance.

The kitten seems completely unbothered by the whole thing.

He’s just hanging there with his gloriously squiggly whiskers, looking like he’s about to offer me a Werther’s Original and tell me about the good old days.

The comments were every bit as funny as you’d expect.

Related: Maine Coon Kitten Has Full Grandpa Energy — He’s Late for Bingo and Has No Time for Your Nonsense

“Mr squiggle whiskers!”

Perfect nickname.

Another viewer simply asked:

“Why he all scrunggly?”

Honestly?

That’s a fair question.

One commenter couldn’t get over how distinguished he looked.

“He looks like a grandpa.”

I laughed because he absolutely has the energy of someone who falls asleep in a recliner halfway through the evening news.

Another person wrote:

“Woah that’s a first time seeing a cat with crinkly whiskers!”

Same here.

Then came one of my favorite comments.

“Looks like he gives Werthers Caramels to everyone from his pockets.”

I don’t know why that’s so funny, but I can picture it perfectly.

Someone else simply embraced the uniqueness.

“Why is he squiggly? I want a squiggly cat.”

And another dubbed him:

“Go Curly Fry!”

That should be his superhero name.

One viewer wondered whether he had burned his whiskers.

Another quickly replied no.

Then someone else chimed in with what was easily the funniest explanation of the bunch:

“Nope. Obviously this cat smokes cigarettes. I know a chain smoker when I see one, but thanks for your input. You’re just wrong.”

Poor little guy.

He’s barely a teenager and already has the internet accusing him of smoking a pack a day.

Why Some Cats Have Curly Whiskers @charlieinberlin

Charlie’s whiskers have been curly and all over the place his entire life. Sometimes they even curl up on one side and looks like he has a monocle 🧐 We are not completely sure why they grow this way, we think we know what it’s related to… his childhood when his mum must have chewed them off. But we are still aren’t certain why they are so curly, rather than just growing out straight. Does anyone know why? And have you ever seen a cat with curly whiskers like Charlie as well? 😻 #siberiancat #nevamasquerade #catwhiskers #CapCut

♬ Wes Anderson-esque Cute Acoustic – Kenji Ueda

While most cats have straight whiskers, some naturally develop whiskers that are wavy or curly because of genetics. This is especially common in certain breeds with curly coats, but it can occasionally show up in mixed-breed cats as well.

Curly whiskers can also happen if whiskers become temporarily bent while sleeping or playing. If a cat suddenly develops damaged or brittle whiskers alongside other health changes, it’s always worth mentioning it to your veterinarian.

In this kitten’s case, though …

I think he’s simply one of the most delightfully squiggly little cats on the internet.

Grey Maine Coon Gives Birth to a Perfect Litter of Moon Rocks

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 9:00am

Maine Coon kittens are absurdly cute every single time. It doesn’t even matter what they look like to me: they’re so fluffy and sweet, it’s hard not to love them! If I had to pick a favorite color, though, it would be grey!

Recently, one grey Maine Coon gave birth to a litter of kittens who all look like tiny moon rocks. They’re having the time of their lives being alive, but I can’t get past their out-of-this-world cuteness:

@tasselears

Gummy’s grandbabies are growing up… and I might soon be confusing them with her own little ones. Their mom is Gummy’s daughter, Eloise. #mainecoon #blackcat #kittensoftiktok #catfamily #mainecoonkitten

♬ First Date – blink-182

Tassel Ears Maine Coon Cattery has some of the coolest kittens in the world. Queen Eloise’s kittens are all different shades of grey, and she herself is a mix of shades! Her fur almost creates perfect swirls; hopefully, as they get older, some of the kittens take after her.

There are five kittens in this litter, and it’s an interesting one: Eloise is actually the daughter of another cat in the cattery named Gummy! Gummy babysits her grandkids from time to time, but mostly, Eloise is left to tend to her own moon rock babies.

Related: Maine Coon Kitten’s ‘Spooky Smoke’ Face Is Too Cool to Ignore

Tassel Ears Maine Coon Cattery doesn’t only specialize in grey cats, but they do have a lot of them, and they just have a lot of cats in general. When they grouped them all together to show how they were beating the heat, it was impossible to ignore how cute they are:

@tasselears

It seems the fluffies aren’t too bothered by the heat. #mainecoon #catsoftiktok #kittens #mainecoonkitten #petlover

♬ JARKOR – Pedrillex

Interestingly, the cats don’t seem to mind the heat too much. You’d think that much fur would have them overheating like crazy!

How Do Longhaired Cats Keep Cool?

This summer heat is no joke! Even with air conditioning, it can get a little warm and stuffy inside, and it’s no fun being hot. For our furry friends, though, it’s apparently not that bad!

Korneeva_Kristina / Getty Images

Cats do get warm on hot days, but they’re much better at heat management than we are. They like to groom themselves, so their saliva keeps them cooler, and they tend to stay in the shade. Since they can’t really sweat (except through their paw pads), those are the easiest ways to stay cool.

If your cat is hot, you’ll notice:

  • Excessive panting
  • Restlessness
  • Trying to hide
  • In extreme cases, heatstroke symptoms like drooling, vomiting, or disorientation

If you notice your cat looking a little too hot, make sure you get them to a cool spot immediately. In the event that it progresses to vomiting, though, they need to get to the vet as soon as possible!

Litter of Irish Setter Puppies Snuggling Together Sound Just Like Purring Kittens

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 8:05am

I don’t know who first discovered that turning the volume up on cute animal videos makes them about 10 times better, but they deserve a medal. I almost scrolled right past this one until I noticed the caption, “Volume up, trust me.” Whoever wrote that wasn’t exaggerating. I’m one of those people that usually have my volume all the way down so this time I’m glad I didn’t!

At first, it just looks like a giant pile of sleepy Irish Setter puppies all snuggled together for a nap. Cute? Absolutely. But then you hear them. Instead of complete silence, the puppies make the sweetest little coos, grumbles, tiny whimpers, and purring-like noises that somehow sound more like a basket of contented kittens than a litter of dogs. I listened to it three times before I could stop smiling.

@rockymtnirishsetters

🔊 SOUND UP! 🔊 Listen to those puppies purrrrr! 🥹❤️🐾 Is there anything sweeter than a pile of sleepy Irish Setter babies, warm and cozy, making those precious little puppy noises? 🍀 Volume all the way up for this one. 🔊❤️ #IrishSetter #IrishSetterPuppies #PuppyASMR #ASMR #PuppySounds

The adorable clip was shared by TikTok user @rockymtnirishsetters and features what can only be described as a puppy mountain.

Seriously, I lost count after about six puppies because they were all piled on top of one another like little cinnamon-colored throw pillows.

Some are stretched out.

Some are using their siblings as mattresses.

One appears to have accepted that personal space is simply not part of puppy life.

Related: Tiny Pit Bull Puppies Finally ‘Sleep Like Babies’ in Their New Shelter After Everything They’ve Been Through

As they snooze, the room fills with the tiniest little sounds imaginable. A few puppies softly coo while others make little squeaks and sleepy whimpers, creating what sounds like the world’s cutest soundtrack.

The comments were every bit as delightful.

“Oh my goodness they are quarreling in their sleep. Precious.”

It really does sound like a couple of them are having tiny dream arguments.

Another commenter had … a much more unexpected interpretation.

“It sounds like a bunch of cowboys eating beans around a campfire.”

I … umm … hmm …

I don’t know if I’d go that far.

But I appreciate the creativity.

Someone else wrote exactly what many of us were thinking:

“I’d work my way into the middle of that.”

Honestly, same.

Imagine taking a nap surrounded by warm, sleepy Irish Setter puppies.

That has to be what winning the lottery feels like.

Another person summed it up beautifully:

“That’s what my heaven will sound like.”

I don’t think anyone could argue with that.

“Puppy Purrs from the Puppy Pile, how sweet.”

“Look at all of those chicken nuggets.”

And finally:

“That is the most perfect sound!”

It really is.

Adorable Tiny Bernedoodle Puppies Are a Total S’mores Meltdown

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 8:00am

I really don’t like summer very much. I don’t like the heat. I have a vast collection of quirky sweatshirts, and you can’t exactly wear those much in the summer. However, there is one thing I love about summer: s’mores. Try it with a Kit Kat instead of a chocolate bar.

With these precious Bernedoodle puppies, though, you’re really getting gooey s’mores all year long! When their dad posted a video of them all together, they looked like the cutest, meltiest s’more ever:

@thalwynfamilydoodles.com

A storm rolled in so we had to combine Dani and Major and Tag and Maizy’s litters into the wagon to get in the house quickly!! ❤️💙 And of course the storm went around us! www.texasbernedoodles.com #minibernedoodle #bernedoodlebreeder #bernedoodle #puppy #australianmountaindoodle

♬ original sound – thalwynfamilydoodles.com

Thalwyn Family Doodles has a bunch of Bernedoodles: their parents are health-tested, and they’re fully licensed. In this video, a storm was coming in, and some of the puppies were outside, so they had to quickly bring them in. The storm ended up passing them completely, but it was worth it to see a wagon full of puppies!

There are two litters in the wagon, but they all look relatively similar: they look like s’mores! There’s the white marshmallowy fur, the darker black/brown chocolate fur, and the tan fur, which is as graham-cracker as it gets.

Related: Precious Polka-Dot Bernedoodle Looks Just Like Everyone’s Favorite Cartoon Dog

One of their Bernedoodles is especially s’mores-y. His back is almost entirely chocolate-brown, with the lightest marshmallow dusting. He’s a sight to behold and definitely stands out among the crowd:

Be honest, have you ever seen a face this adorable? 😭❤️ 🐾 🐾 🐾 #bernedoodle #bernedoodlepuppy #doodlepup #doodlepuppies #bernedoodlesofinstagram

I adore him. If I could name him, I think it would have to be Oswald. Or, if I was feeling especially weird that day, maybe Concrete. I like my dogs to have either really weird names or really old names with no in-between!

Bernedoodles Are Great Dogs

Though it was probably not the easiest task ever, wrangling several Bernedoodle puppies into a wagon, these pups are well-behaved and easy to please. They’re raised with their first human family, so they know how to act!

Irukandji / Getty Images

Bernedoodles are a crossbreed between the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. The size of the Doodle you get depends on the Poodle, since they come in a few different sizes. The size doesn’t change:

  • Their coat, which is typically a long but curly mix of both breeds.
  • Their outgoing, playful personalities.
  • Their eagerness to learn and train.
  • Their kindness.

Bernedoodles are energetic, but trainable, and they make great companions for homes with kids, other dogs, and even cats! Though I know Doodles are not for me, if I had to pick one, I’d definitely have a Bernedoodle!

Extra Fluffy White Persian Cat Looks Like a 'Family Sized Bag of Cotton Balls With Paws'

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 7:10am

The Persian is one of the most popular cat breeds in the country. Thanks to their affectionate personality and trademark luxurious coat, these pretty kitties top the list of potential pet parents looking for a feline fur baby.

Bean the white Persian cat is a perfect example of how fluffy these felines get, with followers completely smitten with the plush kitten.

♬ original sound – Sir George

The TikTok from @beanmika featured the little kitty when he was still small with a low projected fluff radius.

“He’s so scrawny, he won’t get that fluffy,” the on-screen text read, echoing opinions of those who initially met Bean when he first arrived.

Flash forward to present day, where Bean lay on his side in all of his poof-like glory. His white coat jutted out in all directions, like pieces of cotton grouped together to form one giant puff ball. Bean’s eyes were a bit hidden by all the mounds of billowy hair, though the piercing shade of green made them more visible. His paws seemed to blend in with the rest of his fur-covered form.

Followers fell in love with Bean and his indulgent locks, with many comparing him to ethereal objects:

  • “Cool cloud, but where’s your cat?” one asked.
  • “That’s an extra-large family size bag of cotton balls with paws,” another remarked.
  • “That’s a weird looking cloud,” a follower noted.
  • “If his name isn’t Cotton Ball, I’m gonna be upset,” someone posted.
  • “Are you aware your cat can fly and has been spotted multiple times in the sky?” a fan pointed out with an attached image of clouds.
Persian Cats Need Daily Grooming

These gorgeous cats require regular grooming maintenance to keep their lush coats healthy and free of mats. Persian cats should be brushed every day for approximately 15 to 20 minutes with a wide-toothed comb or brush designed specifically for long-haired cats. This will keep your cat’s coat smooth, shiny, and tangle-free.

We Asked 3 Dog Trainers the First Thing Every Rescue Dog Needs—and They All Agreed

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 6:16am

When bringing home a rescue dog for the first time, it’s definitely an incredibly exciting moment, and it’s also a very vulnerable one too, especially for the pup. After leaving the animal shelter, there’s a period of adjustment that follows, and this can be difficult for any dog. Depending on what they went through prior to the shelter and at the shelter, there may be some potential trauma and healing that needs to be done. Not only that, but change is hard for everyone, including dogs. This is why it’s so important keep in mind that patience and building trust are key during the first few days of having a rescue dog at home.

You may wonder exactly how you can earn your pup’s trust and help them feel safe and supported in their new home. To find out about the first thing every rescue dog needs when coming home for the first time, we spoke with three different dog trainers to find out exactly what a shelter dog can benefit from the most when adjusting to their new home and life.

Keeping this vital info in mind can help it be an easier and more successful adjustment for everyone. Read on to learn why the decompression period for rescue dogs is so important, plus what items you need to have on deck when bringing home your new fur baby.

Our Panel of Experts
  • Cynthia Palmisano, Psy.D., is a core faculty member and member of the Saybrook Animal Care, Rescue & Education with Dignity (SACRED) professional learning community at Saybrook University.
  • Laurie Hood is the founder of Alaqua Animal Refuge in the Florida Panhandle.
  • Lorraine Rhoads is the senior director of health and safety at Dogtopia.
Why the First 48 Hours Make or Break Trust

The first 48 hours are a critical time for your dog to settle into your family. “Our instinct is always to immediately shower a rescue with love and attention, but what they need the most is time and patience,” says Laurie Hood, the founder of Alaqua Animal Refuge. “Those first 48 hours are crucial to allow them to learn predictability and gain confidence in themselves to make choices for themselves.”

The Power of ‘Decompression’

Sergio Mendoza Hochmann / Getty Images

Decompression is the period of time that a rescue pup needs to recover from all of the stress and stimulation. All three animal rescue professionals we interviewed agreed that decompression is a critical component of helping a rescue dog settle into their new home. In fact, it is really the first thing every rescue dog needs when adjusting.

“Think about everything a rescue dog may have recently experienced: a shelter or foster home, unfamiliar people and dogs, transportation, new smells and sounds, and now an entirely new household,” says Lorraine Rhoads, the senior director of health and safety at Dogtopia. “That’s a lot for any nervous system to process.”

Focusing on predicability is key during the decompression period. This can include things like establishing routines, paying attention to your dog’s stress cues, and making sure you’re respecting their boundaries and limitations.

“During decompression, we want to make the dog’s world smaller and more predictable for a little while. That doesn’t mean isolating them. It means avoiding unnecessary stimulation and giving them plenty of opportunities to sleep, observe and settle in at their own pace,” Rhoads says.

Cynthia Palmisano, Psy.D., a member of the Saybrook Animal Care, Rescue & Education with Dignity (SACRED) professional learning community at Saybrook University, agrees.

“This time period will be important for building trust, as your dog is looking toward your responses to help feel welcome and safe,” Palmisano says. “Consistency in routines, non-aggressive redirection and adjusting expectations can help reduce stress for both human and animal companions. Keep in mind, it is estimated that dogs need approximately three weeks to adjust completely to a routine.”

Hood adds that decompression is the time and space they need to begin recovery and learn to let their guard down again, making patience and predictability so important for a rescue dog during the decompression period.

“It means allowing them to rest, providing good nutrition, establishing a predictable routine and not expecting too much from them during that time,” Hood says. “Before we worry about training or socializing, we need to give their bodies and minds time to recover.”

3 Trainer-Mandated Rules for the First Week Home

Fly_dragonfly / Getty Images

Here’s how to make the first few days at home easier, smoother and more supportive for your rescue pup.

1. Take things at their pace.

Olga Pankova / Getty Images

“My biggest rule is to let contact happen on the dog’s time,” Hood says. “Don’t force walks, affection, introductions to other people or interactions with other pets. As new owners, we’re often so excited about getting a new dog that we want to show them what their new life will be, but they may not be ready. They will tell you when they are.”

Palmisano agrees. “Allow your animal companion to approach you, and avoid being overbearing,” she says.

2. Establish a consistent routine.

Stefania Pelfini la Waziya / Getty Images

“Establish a simple routine for meals, potty breaks, walks, rest and bedtime,” Rhoads recommends. “Supervise your dog as they explore the house, and consider limiting access to a smaller, comfortable area initially rather than immediately giving them the run of the entire home.”

3. Pay attention to body language.

Karen Images / Getty Images

Rhoads says the most important thing is to pay attention to body language and what it’s trying to tell you.

“Turning away, lip licking, yawning, freezing, tucked posture, avoiding eye contact or trying to leave an interaction can all be ways a dog tells us they need more space,” Rhoads says. “When we listen to those early signals, we’re teaching the dog that they don’t have to escalate their communication to be heard.”

What to Actually Buy for Day One

Catherine Falls Commercial / Getty Images

When it comes to what you actually need to have on hand for the first day home with your rescue dog, Rhoads recommends the absolute basics, including:

  • A properly fitted collar or harness and secure leash
  • Current identification tags and updated microchip information
  • The food they’re already accustomed to eating, at least initially while they settle in
  • Food and water bowls
  • A comfortable, quiet place to sleep and decompress
  • A properly sized crate, if appropriate for the individual dog
  • Safe, size-appropriate chew and enrichment items
  • High-value treats for positive reinforcement
  • Bio-enzymatic cleaner because accidents happen
  • A veterinarian appointment scheduled to establish care and review medical records, vaccines, parasite prevention and any existing health concerns

“One safety point I can’t emphasize enough is preventing escapes,” Rhoads says. “Newly adopted dogs don’t yet understand that your home is their home. Doors, gates, yards, collars and leashes deserve extra attention during those first weeks. A frightened dog can bolt very quickly, so secure handling should be a priority from day one.”

When True Behaviors Start to Show

Justin Paget / Getty Images

“I’ve seen dogs begin to show us who they really are within a few days,” Hood says. “I’ve also seen extreme cases where it has taken years. There is no deadline for healing, and I don’t think we should put one on them.”

True behavior and personality showing will vary from rescue to rescue. The point is to stay patient, hopeful and, most of all, loving. Take everything at their pace; it’s really what your rescue dog needs the most during the decompression period.

Coyote Casually Joins Dogs at the Dog Park Like He’s Just One of the Pack

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 6:15am

If you’ve ever gone to a dog park, you know there’s usually a mix of dogs in all shapes and sizes happily frolicking together. But it’s not every day you look over at the big-dog area and spot a playful coyote in the mix.

It’s a situation that certainly could have ended differently, but this particular encounter turned into a surprisingly wholesome scene filled with curiosity, chasing, and some very dog-like behavior. From the looks of things, this little coyote thought he was just another member of the pack at this California dog park.

Check it out in this August 7 Instagram video shared by dog trainer Carlos Clara, @obedient.tails:

View this post on Instagram

As Clara noted in the caption, “thankfully these are big dogs and no one was hurt!” He added that the encounter was actually pretty cute to witness.

And if you weren’t looking closely, you could almost mistake the coyote for another dog racing around the park. The dogs chase the coyote, the coyote chases the dogs, and everyone seems remarkably comfortable with the arrangement.

At one point, the coyote even appears fascinated by something hanging from one dog’s collar. Is it a toy? Something to chase? Whatever is going through his mind, it’s one of those moments that makes you wish animals came with thought bubbles.

Related: Coyote Ripping Open a Chewy Box Is Just an Excited Puppy at Heart

Viewers had plenty to say about the unusual playdate, and some even had their own stories.

@princesparadise shared, “My great dane has befriended the wild coyotes that come into our yard bc they’re terrified of her size. She will wrestle with them and has started bringing them her milkbones bc she doesn’t like them. So she hoards them and then brings them outside at night for her coyote friends.”

Another joked, “I think foxes, raccoons, and coyotes are getting geared up to be pets.”

But @fluffbuttbowie offered some particularly interesting context, noting that this apparently wasn’t the coyote’s first trip to the dog park:

“Awww that’s just Wile E. Coyote!! Story is he’s orphaned. He’s at the park almost every day tryna play with the pups. He took my ball tryna get me to play one day. I have a video with him too.”

Bowie’s parent added:

“He is very cautious approaching new dogs and won’t approach mine anymore, knowing he doesn’t want to play, yet will sprint full speed towards his friends he’s played with before. He will not let a human get close to him. He can also easily outrun any dog I’ve seen him play with.”

Is It Safe for Dogs to Play With Coyotes?

As adorable as this particular encounter looks, a coyote joining dogs at a park shouldn’t be treated like an invitation to let pets interact with wildlife.

Coyotes and domestic dogs are both members of the Canidae family, so some of the chasing, play signals, and social behavior in the video may look remarkably familiar. But coyotes are still wild animals, and an interaction that begins peacefully can be unpredictable.

That’s why the National Park Service advises pet parents not to allow dogs to approach coyotes and recommends keeping dogs leashed and close during an encounter. Smaller dogs warrant particular caution, as they’re especially vulnerable to encounters with coyotes.

For this crew, though, the unusual visitor apparently knew exactly which section of the park to try. And judging by all that running and chasing, he had no trouble keeping up with the big dogs.

Costco Is Selling Simplehuman’s Sleek Pet Food Can—and It Solves an Annoying Storage Problem

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 4:50am

We love a good trip to the pet store, but it’s even more exciting when you are buying a new toy or some tasty treats for your pup. I, for one, try to make as few trips to the store as possible for mundane but necessary items. No one enjoys a trip to buy a replacement bag of kibble. Unless you’re using it as an excuse to peruse your pet store’s new arrivals.

When it comes to food, I prefer to buy in bulk, but that leaves the pesky little problem of storage. Our garage is pretty secure, but every now and then the door gets left open late into the evening or early in the morning, and the resident raccoons really do love a solid meal of dog food. Thankfully, our favorite bulk wholesaler (Costco) has the perfect solution with the Simplehuman Dog Food Can.

Simplehuman X-Large Pet Food Can, $119.99 at Costco

Costco is everybody’s favorite warehouse. We can get all of our favorite bulk items while snagging some pretty unique treats and toys for our pups too. Every now and then, they have specialty items like dog beds and loungers donning the shelves in the pet aisle. Sometimes they also carry niche items online like the perfect storage solution for your bulk bags of dog food: Simplehuman’s X-Large Pet Food Can.

The can has a sleek brushed stainless steel exterior and a removable, BPA-free interior bucket for easy cleaning in between refills. The lid features an airtight seal, keeping bugs and animals out of your pup’s food while maintaining its overall quality and freshness.

While freshness is the most important part of food storage, my favorite part of the container is a toss-up between the built-in measuring cup that magnetically sticks to the lid and the pair of back wheels that make it easier to move around your home.

The container, which retails for $119.99, holds between 36 and 44 pounds of dog food at a time, while maintaining a clean profile that fits anywhere in your home without standing out like a sore thumb.

Another major plus if you have both two-legged and four-legged kids is that the exterior resists fingerprints and smudges, much like the other cans in Simplehuman’s line. It also has a dual-latch handle that prevents your pup from getting into the bin and sneaking an extra helping of dinner. I know my German Shepherd would try incessently, so a feature like this is invaluable. The bin is currently only available online and can take about a week to arrive.

Maine Coon Kittens Trying Chicken for the First Time Is Pure, Adorable Chaos

Mon, 08/17/2026 - 9:50pm

Maine Coons are gorgeous, large-breed cats loved by cat owners and netizens alike. Whether they are teeny, little kittens or full-grown adults, their unique personalities and beauty are unequaled, drawing plenty of attention.

One set of adorable Maine Coon kittens from the Greek Garden Maine Coons Cattery has recently been introduced to eating semi-solid foods. While introducing any kitten to semi-solids is an undertaking, adding the long fur of a Maine Coon, ups the level of difficulty. These seven teeny little kitties not only enjoyed the change in food, but it became quite the event.

Tiny Kittens Turn Mealtime Into a Mess

In a video on the catteries YouTube page, the little brood tries eating their first helping of blended chicken. Their human began by taking cooked, plain chicken without any bones or seasoning and blended it into a thin gruel. Once thoroughly blended, the thin liquid pours out easily into a medium-size bowl for the little ones to slurp up. The palatable gruel makes for an easy first food while transitioning away from drinking directly from mom.

As the bowl is placed on the ground, the littles seem more than ready to dive right on in. A few were a little slow on the uptake, but most of the kittens readily began eating from the bowl, which quickly led to them getting it all over their adorable faces. The first glance of them looking up was lovingly captioned, “descending into chaos.” A pretty apt description as the camera pans around from one chicken-drenched face to the next.

As messy as they all are, at least we can tell that they have thoroughly enjoyed their meals. There is really no doubt by the end of the clip. One little one enjoyed the chicken so much that it even went back for seconds, earning itself the “overachiever” label. Having seconds was only part of this little one’s overachieving status. Getting chicken gruel all over its face wasn’t quite enough chaos. The tiny kitten had to put its feet in there as well.

Only one of the kittens comes out of the experience mostly unscathed, and shockingly it is one of the orange kittens. An orange cat having a lot to say about its meal surprises almost no one. While kittens can usually clean themselves up pretty well on their own, these ones are definitely going to need a bath.

What Age do Kittens Switch to Solid Foods?

Kittens start transitioning to solid foods around three to four weeks old. Start by giving them blended protein like the Maine Coons tried or even watered-down canned kitten food. You can also mix the wet food with kitten formula.

According to PetMD, you should feed the kittens away from mom, giving her a break and them the opportunity to try something new without running back to their mom for food. Once the kittens reach between five and six weeks old, they can try dry food with milk or water added to it to keep it soft. By 8 weeks, they should be eating independently from mom and on dry kibble. Be sure to offer plenty of water during the transition. You don’t want your kittens becoming dehydrated.

The Most Photographed Dog Breed in the World Is No. 1 for a Reason, and We Totally Get It

Mon, 08/17/2026 - 7:20pm

For the average dog parent, taking several photos of their beloved canine friend daily is completely normal.

Photos of your dog sleeping, eating, walking, playing, sitting, and just generally existing.

If this were a human you were photographing, you would definitely be considered a stalker, but good thing they are your dog!

But what is the most photographed dog breed in the world? It seems like a hard question to ask, but Popsa analyzed millions of customer photos to reveal the world’s most photographed dog breeds, and the top dog (literally) is probably no surprise…

The Most Photographed Dog Breed in the World

Though a few came close, it’s the beloved Poodle who gets the most shutterbug love, making it the most photographed dog breed in the world.

The Poodle breed—which comes in three sizes—is a great family dog and perfect for couples and older adults, according to Popsa.

They are highly intelligent and easy to train.

They also don’t shed too much, which is very appealing to many people who love a nice, curly coat.

Though they may not be as trendy as Goldendoodles (which are part Poodle, of course) and Frenchies, Poodles have been an established favorite for decades.

According to the 2025 American Kennel Club rankings, Poodles are the sixth most popular dog breed in the U.S.

As for how Popsa compiled this data, the data science team analyzed millions of customer photos taken across 2024 and 2025.

The dogs were identified entirely on Popsa‘s app, which uses on-device machine learning to recognize general features within each photo, including whether a dog is present and which breed it most closely matches.

Then each breed was ranked by total photo volume.

Scores were normalized on a scale of 0 to 100, with the most photographed breed set as the benchmark.

One Dog's Tiny Cup Trick Has Everyone Laughing and Reaching for Treats

Mon, 08/17/2026 - 6:48pm

Skadi has already made a name for herself as a flying dog, but apparently soaring through the sky with her mom wasn’t enough adventure for one Hungarian Vizsla.

She wanted tips and found a perfect way to get them. In a funny video, we see her carrying a cup around the house, expecting her parents to put some treats inside.

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

You might wonder why, but dogs love mimicking things. She saw her parents give coins to a person begging with a cup. So, she made the logical conclusion. If cups are for getting money, maybe she can get some treats as well.

Honestly, it is hard to argue with her logic.

Skadi Teaches Us Something About Dogs

We often think of dogs as reacting to what happens around them, but Skadi’s cup routine is a reminder that dogs are also constantly watching us. They notice patterns. They learn which actions lead to food, attention, walks and other things they value.

Skadi took something she saw her humans do and created her own doggy version of it. Apparently, it works.

Dogs are great at learning what gets them rewards. Skadi saw her parents reach into their pockets, take out coins, and put them into a cup, and she kept that information stored for later.

One commenter suggested Skadi should take her cup on walks and make it profitable. Considering her determination, it might be a great idea.

Once the popular Vizsla gets her treats, she runs away and eats them from the cup at a safe distance. She is not simply asking for treats. Skadi worked out the entire transaction, including where she wants to enjoy her profits.

The flying dog has already mastered the skies. Now, she is working on her treat fund. Business is going well for this popular dog.

Related: Shelter Rates Its Dogs Based on One Very Important Skill, and Chicken Nuggets Are Involved

A Reputation for Unusual Adventures

Skadi is famous online as the “flying dog.” She and her mom, Anna Berger, have built a social media following around their adventures.

Notably, they go on tandem paragliding. Anna loves to bring her everywhere, on camping trips, hiking trips, and flying. The pair even travels to international paragliding events.

Now, Skadi has found another quirk. Some dogs sit for treats, others stare, and some might place a paw on your knee the moment you touch your fork. Skadi saw something that worked, and then applied the same protocol to her daily needs.

Case in point, these two orange British Shorthair kitten brothers give off total ‘teddy bear’ vibes that have followers totally smitten.

Kids Build Disabled Cat a LEGO Wheelchair, and It’s the Coolest Thing

Mon, 08/17/2026 - 4:00pm

Just because a cat is disabled doesn’t mean their life is over. Whether they’re born that way or something happens later in life that makes them that way, they can learn to live a long and full life, just with a few adjustments! As long as they have a loving family, everything will work out.

Recently, one disabled cat’s family decided to give him a helping hand when it came to getting around. He lives in a house full of kids, so naturally, they built him a wheelchair using their LEGOs:

The LEGO wheelchair is an amazing feat of innovation, of course, and by kids, no less! However, it’s just a prototype: they’re trying to work out weight distribution and padding ideas, too. In time, all of the special cats in their home might be able to use it!

They’re very excited for their package of new toys in this video. No matter how many new toys they get, it’ll never be enough: I want to get them all of the toys in the world!

What Makes These Cats So Wobbly?

Several cats that Robin is currently fostering have Cerebellar Hypoplasia, also known as CH. A telltale sign of the condition is their wobbly walk, especially with the way they splay out their front paws.

Anadolu / Getty Images

Cerebellar Hypoplasia occurs when a cat’s cerebellum doesn’t fully develop. That part of the brain is very close to the brainstem, and it’s responsible for coordination and balance. When it’s underdeveloped, cats wobble. It also occurs in dogs and humans! There are a few things to know about CH:

  • In most cases, it doesn’t significantly impact a cat’s lifespan.
  • It’s not painful.
  • Cats can overcome effects (like wobbling) with mobility aids, such as wheelchairs.

Typically, if you want to get your cat a wheelchair, a professionally made and sized one is the way to go. This, however, is still a really cool option!
