Scared Newfoundland Retrieves Mom for Outdoor Show-and-Tell

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 6:55pm

Dogs can’t help but be transparent about their very big feelings when they discover something new, and when they’re not so sure about it. Even the biggest pups can have a funny reaction when meeting a smaller animal for the first time.

For one Newfoundland named Frankie, this happened when a tiny frog appeared in the backyard, and she was so concerned that she ran straight inside to Mom and “asked” for a little help.

♬ My Blueberry Life (Demo) – Current Joys

Being a dog mom to a Newfoundland like Frankie, Hannah has probably had her fair share of funny moments like this, but for the curious pup to retrieve Mom for a show-and-tell makes it such a sweet and comical clip.

Frankie appears scared of the tiny amphibian when it moves, as if to say: “I’m not so sure about you right now!” After the excitement settled, she was pretty insistent she go out to see it again and again.

As one fan commented, “My heart can’t take that her brain said, oh no, I gotta get Mom.” This is one good girl who, when in doubt, calls on her favorite human. The frog may be long gone by now, but never fear—Frankie finds a new mission every day, and it’s 13/10 times near that frog’s last known residence!

Like most Newfoundlands, Frankie is an outdoor girly who enjoys spending time under the sun. If Mom’s watering the garden where her new frog friend may be, you can bet that Frankie will be by Mom’s side… just in case!

@hannahlg0

They just love water so much #newfoundland #garden #community #washington

As cute as some little frogs can be, some of them can be dangerous to humans and dogs. It’s hard to say what kind of frog Frankie stumbled upon, but since she mostly left it alone, she’s OK.

First and foremost, the best advice to stay safe from potentially poisonous frogs is to make sure no one touches the frog at all. Keep your grass cut short, and eliminate any standing water where frogs might congregate and breed. There are also safe alternatives to yard sprays, like vinegar, to prevent a frog infestation before it begins.

Thank goodness Frankie knew to go get Mom when she found her frog. She may not be a fan, but she sure is one good girl!

Sweet Baby Hummingbird Shows Ultimate Trust by Drinking Straight From a Human’s Hand

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 4:50pm

It’s always amazing to see hummingbirds flitting about outside your window. Whether they are drinking from feeders you’ve hung along your roofline, or if they are zipping from brilliant flower to brilliant flower in your carefully crafted garden. They really are inspiring. Everybody dreams of getting close to hummingbirds. But for many of us, it never happens.

Hummingbirds can be very skittish and tend to fly away rapidly before you can get within a foot of them. But if you have hummingbirds nesting in the same area year after year, you can eventually begin to build a rapport with them. One YouTuber was able to build enough trust with her hummingbirds that one of them even sipped nectar out of her hand.

Hummingbird Drinks Straight From Person’s Hand

In a video on her YouTube page, Just Jamie shows herself holding a small, bright container with a yellow and red flower on top. While sitting on her porch, one of her resident baby hummingbirds, whom she lovingly names Donut, shows up in frame. She takes a few sips out of the center of the plastic flower before flitting away, allowing herself to be captured on camera. She comes back for a couple more seconds, prompting Jamie to declare that she thinks she likes her. I would have to agree.

You truly have to be a special person to build that kind of trust with a hummingbird. It is truly awe-inspiring to see a little hummingbird sip from the container in her hand before flitting off, presumably returning to the flowers outside the porch or to her family.

How to Attract Hummingbirds to Your Yard

While establishing the level of rapport it would take to have a hummingbird drink out of your hand may be a daunting task, attracting hummingbirds to your garden is a much easier undertaking. If you would like to have hummingbirds flitting through your garden daily, make sure you plant flowers with bright pink, red, yellow, orange and even purple flowers. These colors often attract hummingbirds to the area, and they will spend quite a bit of time moving from flower to flower, collecting nectar.

If you don’t have a lot of room for plants in your yard, you can also attract hummingbirds with brilliant feeders, much like the Nature’s Way Window Hummingbird Feeder from Tractor Supply. You can have them hanging off your eaves or on your porch. If you don’t have eaves to hang feeders from, you can use a birdhouse stake anchored in a pot. If you’re going to hang a feeder, keep the sugar water or nectar fresh and clean the container regularly. Hummingbird feeders can attract mold very easily, and if mold is allowed to grow, it can make your hummingbird population sick.

Our resident hummingbirds love drinking from the bright pink oleander flowers, as well as from many of the roses, rosemary and lavender in my front yard. They are also particularly fond of our butterfly bushes, as are the insects they are aptly named after. While I haven’t graduated to being cool enough to have a hummingbird drink out of my hand, our resident nesting pair does let me get within about a foot of them, where I can sit and watch them as they go from bush to bush. Sometimes they even perch on a branch, almost like they are hanging out with me while I drink my coffee. For me, that feels like a huge win. Hopefully, one day we can get to the point where they drink out of a container in my hand, as Donut does with Jamie.

Precious Ragdoll Kitten Went to ‘Baby Jail’ and Clearly Loved It

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 4:08pm

You never know how things are going to go with kids and animals. But when two tiny beings love each other? The results are simply too cute to handle!

Pearl’s Ragdolls, a Ragdoll breeder based in Fort Worth, Texas, recently shared an adorable interaction between her young son and a precocious Ragdoll kitten. The kitten jumped into Maverick’s crib for some “baby jail” time, and the two had a blast romping around together.

If you’re prone to baby fever or kitten fever, proceed with caution with the following TikTok!

@pearlsragdolls

Maverick learned a new word this week and how to pet the new kitten

♬ original sound – Pearl’s Ragdolls

Commenters on social media loved the playtime between the two of them, chiming in on the video with:

  • “He is so gentle!! 😍 They are precious together.”
  • “I love how you’re encouraging him to be gentle and loving. You’re doing such a good job mama!!”
  • “Awww she definitely likes him ❤️”

When “baby jail” results in friendship, we’re definitely in support!

Introducing Cats and Toddlers

While Maverick and his Ragdoll pal were so precious, it is important to remember that animals and toddlers are pretty unpredictable and, as such, require total supervision. Neither should ever be left alone with the other, as it’s not safe or conducive to fostering a good relationship between the two.

Boundaries for the cat are super necessary, like making sure it can leave whenever it chooses and isn’t forced to interact with the child in any way. Exits and perches to maintain distance are an excellent idea when introducing a little one to a cat.

Additionally, it’s imperative to teach kids early to respect animals and be good humans towards them. Making sure toddlers remain gentle and use soft voices and hands sets them up for success in terms of creating a good friendship with their kitty family member.

At the end of the day, it’s up to human adults to establish solid rules and expectations to have a good bond between a toddler and a cat. With patience and proper communication, they’ll have a lifelong furry friend at their side and maybe even, like Maverick and his Ragdoll buddy, in their bed.

Ragdoll Cat Hides Among Stuffed Animals and No One Can Tell the Difference

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 11:00am

Ragdoll cats hardly even look real sometimes. Whenever I see one, even though I’ve seen thousands of them by now, I have to do a double-take. It just feels like one time, I’m going to look, and it’s actually going to be a doll!

Recently, one Ragdoll cat decided he wanted to hop into his mom’s basket of stuffed animals. There was only one problem with that: he blended in so well that it seriously looked like he was one!

@the_cat_named_mouse

He looks like a toy #catsoftiktok #ragdollcat #petsoftiktok #cattok

♬ sonido original – 𝖌𝖆𝖇𝖗𝖎𝖊𝖑 “

Mouse the Ragdoll Cat is the most Ragdoll-looking Ragdoll I have ever seen in my life. His mom was asleep for a while while he was in here, and by the time she woke up, he had fully burrowed in! His head was all that was visible, and it’s just too cute!

These are all his friends, which leads me to believe it’s not the first time he’s done this. There are two possibilities: he was trying to sleep in there, or he was digging around trying to get something out of it and got caught. Knowing cats, it was probably a mixture of both.

Related: Fluffy Ragdoll Cat Gives Birth to a Litter of Baby Marshmallows

When he’s not blending in with his stuffed animal besties, you can typically find him being a menace elsewhere. Ragdoll cats are one of the kindest breeds in the world, but they’re also one of the wildest:

@the_cat_named_mouse

♬ Saxophones getting louder – Sped Up – AntonioVivald

Mouse also has a pink-tipped tail, which was done using completely pet-safe dye. He loves his tail, keeping Mom on her toes, and making sure no one ever feels 100% safe with their toes out around him. He loves toes!

Where Do Cats Sleep?

Mouse is only one cat, but the way he chooses where to rest is pretty common for all of them. He likes to be cozy, comfy, and most of all, protected.

Getty Images Alex Walker

Cats are very selective about where they sleep. Instinctually, they like to make sure they’re always safe, which often means:

  • Sleeping in a high spot.
  • Curling up somewhere.
  • Finding a warm spot, like next to a heat vent.

If your cat doesn’t like to sleep in bed with you, don’t worry: it doesn’t mean they don’t love you. In fact, them wanting to sleep apart from you means they’re keeping watch!

Sweet Senior Pit Bull Mix Lands in Shelter After Lifelong Dad Enters Hospice and It's Heartbreaking

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 10:10am

Some dogs end up in shelters when their parent falls ill or passes away. The trauma experienced by the canine is two-fold, losing the only home they’ve ever known and then having to live in a chaotic, unfamiliar environment. Many of these dogs are older in age, making their chances of adoption more of a challenge.

Daisy is an 8-year-old Pit Bull recently surrendered to the Humane Society of Broward County when her lifelong father was admitted to hospice care. Now the precious Pittie is completely confused as to why her life totally changed in an instant.

@humanebroward

She lost the only home she’s ever known 💔 Our oldest dog, Daisy, is 8 years old and until a couple of weeks ago, she had spent her entire life with the same dad. Sadly, he was diagnosed with cancer and had to enter hospice care, leaving him with the devastating decision to surrender the girl he loved. 🥺 It’s heartbreaking when a dog who has been loved her entire life suddenly ends up in a shelter through no fault of her own. We promised Daisy’s dad that we would love and care for her until we find someone who can do the same for the rest of her years. ❤️ Daisy may be our oldest dog, but apparently no one has told her that she’s 8. 😂 She gets the zoomies, loves her squeaky toys, enjoys car rides and wants all the attention she can get. She’s a giant lap dog who will happily sit on your foot if your lap isn’t available. At 84 lbs., she is essentially one very happy, affectionate land seal. 🦭❤️ She loves people, is good with kids and has done well with other dogs. She appears to be housebroken, and our volunteers describe her as friendly, affectionate, playful and simply a “very good girl.” She could use a little work on her leash manners and does best with a harness. Daisy also recently had a small, wart-like growth removed from her back that appeared to be made up of fatty cells, and she is healing well. Otherwise, she is a healthy, happy girl with plenty of pep in her step. 😊 She has only been with us for a couple of weeks, and we really hope to find her a family before shelter life begins to take its toll. We see it far too often with bigger, older dogs who are overlooked week after week, and we don’t want that for Daisy. She spent her whole life knowing what it felt like to be someone’s beloved dog, and she deserves to have that again. 🙏❤️ If you can give Daisy the love and security she deserves for the rest of her years, please complete a pre-adoption application on our website (link in bio) and come meet her at the Humane Society of Broward County. We open daily at 11 a.m. at 2070 Griffin Road in Fort Lauderdale. Please share Daisy and help us keep the promise we made to her dad. ❤️

The TikTok from @humanebroward told Daisy’s story and how the split was heartbreaking for both the fur baby and her father.

“She lost the only home she’s ever known,” the caption explained as Daisy looked out of her kennel with the sweetest eyes. “Our oldest dog, Daisy, is 8 years old and until a couple of weeks ago, she had spent her entire life with the same dad. Sadly, he was diagnosed with cancer and had to enter hospice care, leaving him with the devastating decision to surrender the girl he loved.”

Thankfully, shelter staff members are giving Daisy the comfort she so desperately needs and are committed to finding her a forever home.

“It’s heartbreaking when a dog who has been loved her entire life suddenly ends up in a shelter through no fault of her own,” the story continued. “We promised Daisy’s dad that we would love and care for her until we find someone who can do the same for the rest of her years.”

Daisy Is a ‘Giant Lap Dog’

The senior Pittie is quite young at heart. She plays like a puppy, gets the silliest zooms, and thrives on affection. Daisy is apparently a “giant lap dog” who loves to cuddle.

“She loves people, is good with kids and has done well with other dogs,” the caption noted. “She appears to be housebroken, and our volunteers describe her as friendly, affectionate, playful and simply a ‘very good girl’.”

Related: Pit Bull Has Zero Self-Control Around Her Mom’s Mexican Food, and It’s So Relatable

Many senior, larger dogs tend to linger in shelters and get passed over for puppies and younger dogs. Staff members are dedicated to making sure Daisy gets noticed.

“She spent her whole life knowing what it felt like to be someone’s beloved dog,” the caption shared. “She deserves to have that again.”

Bengal-Maine Coon Mix With Vitiligo Has the Most Incredible Salt-and-Pepper Fur

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 10:00am

I have to admit, if I walked past this cat in real life, I’d probably stop and stare for an awkward amount of time. Not because there’s anything wrong with him. Quite the opposite. His coat is so unbelievably unique that I’d be trying to figure out how nature managed to create something that gorgeous.

Meet Moss, a striking Bengal-Maine Coon mix whose once jet-black fur has gradually transformed into an incredible mix of black, silver, and gray thanks to vitiligo. The result? One commenter summed it up perfectly by asking, “Is he a salty licorice??” And honestly … that’s the most accurate description I’ve ever heard.

@toastandtoadstools

I think he thinks it’s a tiny hoover #catsofttiktok #cattok #blackcatsoftiktok #catstagram #catowners

♬ original sound – Tyra

The beautiful video was shared by TikTok user @toastandtoadstools, and while Moss is obviously the star of the show, his cat mom deserves points for trying to make him more comfortable during a warm day.

The caption reads, “trying to keep my cat cool without him realizing I’m trying to keep him cool,” as she quietly scoots a small fan closer to him while he lounges on the floor.

Related: Rescued Black Cat With Vitiligo Looks Like She Dipped Her Ears in Glitter

It’s the kind of thing every cat parent has done at least once.

Because if your cat notices you’re helping them …

They’ll immediately move.

Moss, however, seems perfectly content to soak up the breeze while showing off one of the most extraordinary coats I’ve ever seen.

The comments were filled with people trying to wrap their heads around his coloring:

“One of the prettiest cats I’ve seen!”

“Never seen that color before.”

Then came my favorite comment:

“Is he a salty licorice?? He’s gorgeous!”

I laughed because … yes.

If you’ve ever seen those salty black licorice candies dusted with white powder, you know exactly what they mean.

Another viewer had an interesting question.

“I have a question! Was he born fully black??”

Moss’s cat mom replied with an answer that fascinated everyone.

“He started off jet black and gradually turned more silver literally one hair at a time! His nose and mouth turned pink first, they used to be black too. His vet has confirmed it’s vitiligo and he’s otherwise completely healthy!”

What an incredible transformation.

Is Vitiligo Painful in Cats?

Related: Black Cat With Vitiligo Looks So Sparkly He Could Be Covered in Glittery Sprinkles

The good news is that vitiligo itself isn’t considered painful for cats. It’s a condition that causes pigment-producing cells to stop making melanin in certain areas, which can lead to changes in fur color, skin color, and sometimes the nose or paw pads.

Many cats with vitiligo are perfectly healthy otherwise and continue living normal, happy lives. Because coat color changes can occasionally be caused by other medical conditions, it’s always a good idea to have your veterinarian evaluate any significant changes in your cat’s appearance.

In Moss’s case, his family shared that their veterinarian confirmed the color change was vitiligo.

Which means he’s free to continue being one of the most breathtaking cats on the internet.

Devastated Shelter Pup Who Was ‘Obviously Someone’s Baby’ Is Breaking Hearts

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 10:00am

Not every dog in a shelter was once a stray. You can find dogs from all different circumstances, from “has never encountered a human before” to “my human loved me more than anything else in the entire world.” Sometimes, things just happen.

That’s how this devastated Pit Bull ended up in a shelter in Houston, Texas. When they got her, one thing immediately stood out to shelter staff: she had painted toenails. She was definitely someone’s baby:

@jilliansfosteradventures

#houstontexas

♬ we hug now x best – rithu

Jillian’s Foster Adventures is committed to bringing awareness to at-risk dogs, and I love her for it. This dog is Bubblegum, and her painted toenails and kind demeanor all point to her having been someone’s baby. People are so upset for her: is she lost? Where is her family? And worse, she was put on the euthanasia list.

Luckily, though, Bubblegum found a foster home just in time. She’s no longer listed on BARC Houston’s website as up for adoption, which means she’s found either her family or a new forever home! Whatever the case may be, I’m glad her life was saved!

Related: Tiny Pit Bull Puppies Finally ‘Sleep Like Babies’ in Their New Shelter After Everything They’ve Been Through

The grind never stops, though. Jillian might have helped save Bubblegum, but she was right back to it. Luckily, she was actually able to pull off a reunion, this time between two dog brothers!

@jilliansfosteradventures

#houstontexas #barc #adoptdontshop Thank you to sunnyside street dogs for saying yes!

♬ original sound – 𝗈𝗅𝗂𝗏𝗂𝖺

She does such amazing work. If not for her, who knows how many more dogs might be euthanized without ever being given a proper chance?

Signs That a Stray Was ‘Someone’s Baby’

Just because a dog ends up in a shelter, especially a municipal one, does not mean that they were never loved. A lot of shelter dogs legitimately do come from loving homes, but things don’t always work out the way they should.

picture alliance / Getty Images

Dogs get lost sometimes, and they’re not always easy to find. If a dog gets out and people believe the dog is lost, can’t find their home, or they think the dog might be dangerous, they call animal control. Animal control will bring them to a municipal shelter, which almost always have euthanasia lists.

If a dog was someone’s baby, they’ll look well-fed and well-cared for. They might even have something special, like a sweater, a toy, or painted nails. When you see these signs, do what Jillian did: post on social media! Hopefully, someone will see it and get them back into their rightful home!

Pit Bull Mourning His Favorite Trail After Fire Makes Family Realize How Lucky They Are

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 9:55am

I don’t think people always realize that pets lose places, too.

In this video, Jake, the Pit Bull, stands on his back porch, looking out at what used to be his backyard trail. Beyond the porch, the landscape looks burned, gray, and unreal—the kind of scene your brain doesn’t want to accept even while your eyes are looking right at it.

View this post on Instagram

The caption explains that Jake is confused about what happened to his backyard and trail. His family tells him they will find new adventures, new parks, and new places to play. But for now, he can’t go out back because of the ash and possible hot spots.

That’s the part that hurts.

Jake doesn’t know wildfire safety rules. He doesn’t understand why the place that smelled like him, held his routines, and gave him daily joy is suddenly off-limits. He just knows that something has changed.

View this post on Instagram

His family knows that they’re lucky. Their home is still standing. They still have somewhere to sleep, somewhere to return to, somewhere to hold Jake close and say, “We still have our home.”

But gratitude and grief can sit right next to each other on that porch.

So many people are feeling that fear this summer. The fear of watching smoke rise too close. The fear of grabbing pets, papers, medicine, and hoping you made the right call. The fear of coming back and seeing what survived.

One comment under Jake’s video made that pain even sharper. A viewer shared that their own home burned in Nine Mile Falls. Their family was safe, but displaced, with their Golden Retrievers boarded away from them and their cat staying elsewhere. Safe, but not together.

View this post on Instagram

That sentence stays with you.

Jake’s loss isn’t the same as losing a home, but it is still real in the way animals understand loss: through routine, smell, access, and the places where they felt free.

He will find new trails. He will find new parks. He will feel joy again.

But for one quiet porch moment, Jake is allowed to mourn the place he loved.

View this post on Instagram How To Keep Dogs Safe After a Wildfire

After a fire, it’s natural to want to let your dog inspect familiar places, but burned areas can stay dangerous. The Red Cross’s wildfire safety guide is an important reminder to avoid hot ash, smoldering debris, live embers, and damaged areas.

  • Wait before exploring. Don’t let your dog walk through ash, burned brush, debris, or places officials have not cleared.
  • Protect their paws and lungs. Ash can irritate skin, and smoke can affect breathing, so keep outings short and clean paws afterward.
  • Build new routines gently. If your dog lost a favorite trail, replace it with calm walks, sniffy parks, or small adventures that feel safe.

Jake may not understand what happened, but he understands who stayed with him. Right now, that matters most.

Cockatoos Playing ‘Tug of War’ Over Their Favorite Blanket Are Just Like Puppies

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 9:00am

Cockatoos are the one pet I’ll spend my whole life wishing I could have, but knowing I could never have. It would be a disservice to both myself and the bird to pretend that I could, so instead, I will live vicariously through others on the internet.

Recently, a couple of Cockatoos were trying their best to share their favorite blanket. It wasn’t really working out, though, and ended up as more of a Tug-of-War between two feathered foes:

@tropical.beak.club

nighttime routine: cockatoo edition. 🌙💤🐣🤍 #parrotsoftiktok #cockatoos #parrotlife #birdsoftiktok #birdtok

♬ original sound – Tropical Beak Club

The Tropical Beak Club is no stranger to the antics of parrots like these, but this was one of the funniest examples. The two Cockatoos, Casper and Sully, fight every single night, though not always over the blanket. Tonight, though, they both wanted it, and they got caught fighting it out!

Their mom knows better than to intervene in their Nightly Fight: the birds are in separate cages, and neither will come to any harm. Most likely, the blanket will drop and they’ll both team up and start screaming at Mom to get it back.

Related: Pink Cockatoo Totally Rocks a Grey Sweater Like a True Fashionista

The birds are troublemakers all the time, though, and definitely not just at night. Casper is the lead troublemaker, though, and refuses to let his mom or anybody else walk by without saying hi to him!

@tropical.beak.club

oh you want a cockatoo? say hello back. 😆 #tritoncockatoo #cockatoos #parrotsoftiktok #birdsoftiktok #talkingparrot

♬ original sound – Kora and Koda🐾📚

You’d better say hello back to him! If you don’t, you’re going to get the sharp end of his beak… And trust, you do not want that!

Cockatoos Are Territorial

Cockatoos are a tough bird to keep, and anyone who has one will tell you that. Whether you have other pets or they’re an only child, Cockatoos are bound to throw many a tantrum throughout their lives. Unfortunately, their attitudes lead to them being rehomed often.

Kirsten Walla / Getty Images

Cockatoos, and male Cockatoos in particular, are very territorial. They like to have their own space, food, and belongings: any bird, human, or animal who gets in their way is a problem for them. If you want to keep your Cockatoo’s territorial tendencies from getting out of hand:

  • Make sure they’re caged alone, not fighting for resources.
  • Have only one bird out at a time, especially same-sex pairs.
  • If you notice issues, try looking for stress factors, which can contribute to their possessiveness.

Cockatoos aren’t trying to be mean when they’re territorial: they’re only standing their ground. When it comes to their favorite blankets… Good luck!

♬ Forever – Barbara Mason Do Maine Coon Kittens Change Colors as They Grow?

Maine Coon kittens go through a lot of changes as they grow, specifically through the first one to two years. While their pointy, tufted ears and (often) polydactyl digits take shape, there are also a few changes happening with their coats and eyes.

The fluffy kittens have a base color of black, red, blue, cream, or white. All of those might get darker or lighter while the classic Tabby design becomes more defined. Patterns range from:

  • Solid with no stripes
  • Bicolor (base color mixed with white patches)
  • Tabby (striped in the classic way or mackerel)
  • Tortoiseshell (patches of red and black)
  • Smoke and/or shaded (light base with dark tips)

The most dramatic transformation happens in the smoky kittens, as both the light base and dark tips intensify when the adult undercoat comes in. For the kitties born with a dark base, like black, it’s possible they’ll develop a rusty/brownish tint from the sun. One Maine Coon from the cattery above is also unique in that her Calico coat comes with “ink wash” markings:

♬ original sound – Majestic Maine Coons 🐾

Along with these changes, their eyes change, too. All kittens are born with blue eyes, but around 6 weeks old, melanin production causes a transition to their permanent eye color, which can be gold or copper, green or amber, and the occasional Maine Coon with a “ghost eye” (one light blue and the other typically green). It’s all said and done by around the 6-month-old mark.

That said, it’s anyone’s guess as to how the precious “cookie assortment” kitties will change over the weeks and months to come. But for now, they’re the perfect “scrumptious” eye candy!

Cat Left Behind After His Family Picked up and Moved Without Him Is Heartbroken and Defeated

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 8:20am

To many people, pets are family, and the idea of being without them is devastating. When you adopt a pet, you’re adding another member to your family. Unfortunately, not everyone feels the same.

A precious orange-and-white cat is looking for his new forever home after he was left behind during a move. In a popular video, the kitty appears dejected by the sudden change in circumstances. He’s breaking hearts!

@binx_theblackcat

Let’s get this baby a good home Vegas I know we can @PetSmart location Henderson/stephanie #fyp #honeybee #vegas #cat #catsoftiktok

♬ original sound – fivebarbedsun

Oh my goodness, this poor kitty. In the clip, the cat was lying in his litter box with a defeated look on his face. The cat was found abandoned in an apartment by the landlord after his family moved out. Who could do something like that to their fur baby?

People in the comments are angry on the kitty’s behalf. One person stated, “I truly hope karma finds the people who left him alone and abandoned.” Another person commented, “States need laws so irresponsible pet owners can face criminal charges when they do stuff like this.”

Others are rooting for the kitty to find a new family that will give him the love he deserves. One viewer said, “Please Lord, find this cat loving, patient people. Please perform a miracle for this sweet man,” while another commented, “I hope this kitty friend finds a new family that loves him till the end.”

Hopefully, this kitty finds a new forever home quickly. We can hardly believe anyone would leave behind such a sweet boy!

What To Do If You Find an Abandoned Cat

Luckily, this cat is safe in a shelter instead of being dumped on the street. It’s important to know what to do if you find an abandoned cat.

First, give the kitty a comfortable place to decompress. Carefully bring the cat into a closed-off room separate from other pets to prevent any potential sickness from spreading. Give the cat food, water, and a place to relieve themselves, as they may not have had these available for several days.

Related: French Bulldog Mix Left ‘Terrified’ After Being Abandoned for Being Sick

People who find an abandoned or stray cat should have the kitty checked for a microchip, in case the poor baby is missing. Most veterinarian offices or animal shelters can do this. You should also check local animal groups online to see if anyone has posted about a missing cat and try to reunite the kitty with their loving human.

If the cat doesn’t have a human who wants them, consider where to bring them next. Some people who find an abandoned kitty elect to keep them and welcome their new feline friend with open arms. Others bring the cat to an animal shelter. Do some research on reputable shelters in your area and call local organizations to see if they have the capacity to take in another animal. A good shelter is more likely to accept the kitty if you offer to foster them while waiting to be adopted.

If there are no shelters willing to take the kitty, most towns have a state-run animal shelter required to take in any animal brought to them. However, keep in mind that some public shelters euthanize animals when there’s not enough intake space.

If you find an abandoned cat, remember they’re likely terrified and hungry. Be patient with them while they adjust to their new reality.

Stunning Black-and-White Maine Coon Looks Like a Cookies-and-Cream Dream

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 8:00am

My favorite thing about cats is how underestimated they are. People who don’t really like cats tend to say that they all look the same, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. No two cats look exactly alike!

Additionally, some cats are so unique that it’s almost impossible to believe. For example, this cookies-and-cream colored Maine Coon! Her fur makes her look exactly like an Oreo dipped in milk, and I love it:

@newjerseymainecoo

Miss Attitude; Paisley. 😻 #catsoftiktok #mainecoon

♬ som original – DJ Monster – DJ Monster

New Jersey Maine Coons is, as the name would suggest, a New Jersey-based Maine Coon cattery. They specialize in European Maine Coons, and though you can find lots of different colors there, they seem partial to black, white, and grey cats.

This kitten’s name is Paisley, and it seems like they’ve decided to keep her on. Maybe they’re hoping her stunning colors will pass on to kittens! That’s a long way away, though: she’s just a baby! She’s got plenty of time left to grow up.

Related: Maine Coon Kitten’s ‘Spooky Smoke’ Face Is Too Cool to Ignore

Although the main caretaker at NJ Maine Coons labeled Paisley as “Miss Attitude” in the first video, she posted a follow-up letting people know that it’s not all she is. In fact, Paisley is super calm and sweet:

@newjerseymainecoo

She’s actually the sweetest babe. #mainecoon #catsoftiktok #unique

♬ Come Check This (Quickie Edit) – FETISH

She sits very calmly in her mom’s arms, which is a testament to how deeply she must care about those cats! The ability to calm a kitten down is not something just anyone can manage!

Maine Coon Kittens Are Wild

Though science has never backed up the idea that coat color plays a role in a cat’s behavior, breed certainly does. Being that she’s a Maine Coon kitten, it doesn’t surprise me that Paisley has been labeled as a little attitude-heavy.

Getty Images gui00878

Maine Coons are an adventurous, rambunctious breed. They don’t reach full maturity until about 4 years old, but they act like kittens for years after that, too! There are a few things that are important to making sure your Maine Coon kitten is well-rounded:

  • Boundaries: set firm ones and do not budge.
  • Routine: not having a routine could make things harder for everyone.
  • Training: it’s not just for dogs. Cats need to learn how to behave.

Paisley is working on it. She’ll get there eventually, though honestly, I doubt the attitude will ever go away!

'Vocal Stimming' Parrot Startled by Mom Has Hilarious Response to Interruption

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 7:55am

The internet is saturated with cute, funny, silly, and goofy pets, but there’s one species that outshines all the rest time and time again: Parrots. These smart, vocal birds have a way with the human language that makes them feel like they’re human, too.

For a Parrot named Brody, his 7 a.m. wake-up yap sessions are his preferred way to start the day. Usually, Mom’s a welcome sight so he can spend time out of his cage, but a recent video shows the silly bird reacting with the funniest phrase you wouldn’t think a pet could say!

Brody is a Parrot with opinions, and we’re here for it! The 1:36-minute clip is a small glimpse into what it’s like having a feathery companion who loves to chat, sing, have solo conversations, and even ask Mom, “What the heck?” when she barges in!

This comical boy isn’t the only rescue bird in the house, but he’s a longtime fan favorite for a few reasons, and one of which will live rent-free in your head forever.

Related: This Parrot’s Morning Affirmations Are Better Than Yours

While the above clip is chaotic and all over the place as Brody practices a little bit of everything he can say, he went viral many times over for singing a hilarious song about being a “bad boy.” It’s something he’s so passionate about that he even has a few different renditions, like this “bad boy” remix:

@brody.and.the.flo

Oh Brody 🎤🦜😂🥰 #singingparrot #talkingparrot #funnyparrot #funnyanimals #parrot

♬ original sound – Brody and the flock Why Parrots Are So Vocal

If you’re new to hearing vocal birds like Brody, it’s a pretty cool discovery. Parrots talk so much in the wild because their livelihood depends on being social with their flock. They tap into different sounds to form strong bonds with flock mates, warn them of danger, and understand their environment.

In a domesticated setting, their human family becomes the flock, so picking up words, phrases, and even songs is their way of communicating or calling out through various dialects to fit in as part of the group. Since they’re born with a strong, flexible tongue to form human-like vowel sounds and an extra organ called a syrinx, they’re able to make complex sounds other vocal birds may not.

@brody.and.the.flo

Best alarm ⏰ 🦜 lol #parrot #amazonparrot #singingparrot #talkingparrot #parrotmom

♬ original sound – Brody and the flock

This sometimes means they’re also “vocal stimming” to get attention because they’ve learned it garners a reaction (good or bad). Parrots are beloved for their high intelligence and capability to learn hundreds of words. Their memories and recall, combined with the ability to understand the context, mean they might actually understand what they’re saying (or singing)!

Basically, Brody is one cool dude who’s not a fan of having his solo chat time interrupted!

Black Foster Kitten's Unusual Eyes Have People Wondering If They're 'Just for Decoration'

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 7:10am

Certain cat breeds have absolutely head-turning eyes. Persians, Scottish Folds, and Maine Coons are just a few breeds with eyes that can make you stop and stare. Whether they’re a piercing green, Arctic blue, or neon yellow, there are so many amazing feline eyes that stand out.

Eugene is a tiny black foster kitten who was rescued from a hoarding situation. The pretty kitty’s cuteness would melt anyone’s heart, yet it’s his eyes that are truly noteworthy.

@eugenethefrogcat

Eugene’s first vet appointment. He crushed it. 10/10. No notes.

♬ original sound – estwne

In the TikTok from @eugenethefrogcat, the feline fur baby was at his very first vet appointment. Eugene sat on the examination table and looked around almost as if he was “wondering where room service is.”

Eugene’s midnight-black fur stood out in tufts on his little body. He was extremely brave when the vet gave him his check-up and handled the exam like a pro. Yet it was Eugene’s ice-blue eyes that seemed to command the room.

The stunning color could make you do a double take, and their globe-like shape and how they seemed to pop out of his head were almost cartoon-like. Followers were floored by Eugene’s eyes, with some wondering if they were real:

  • “He’s very good at having eyes,” one remarked.
  • “Do his eyes work or are they just for decoration?” another asked.
  • “I am convinced Eugene can hear the color green, and yet not a single thought is formed,” a follower noted.
  • “He doesn’t even know what to do with his eyes,” someone posted.
  • “Eugene is so eyeballs,” a fan commented.
Black Cats Are Less Likely to Be Adopted

Though black is a common cat color, these felines often get passed over for adoption due to the lingering superstition that black cats are bad luck or symbols of witchcraft. Many black cats stay in shelters longer than other cats due to this false stereotype.

Related: Maine Coon Kitten’s Rare Two-Toned Face Makes Him Look Like the Phantom of the Opera

Fully black cats are actually rare. Many cats are mostly black, but have patches of fur, paw pads, or whiskers that are another color.

Most black cats have yellow eyes. Though Eugene’s are currently a striking blue color, they may change as he gets older. For now though, those baby blues are definitely his most definitive feature.

7 Best Cat Breeds for Night Owls to Keep You Company, Say Vets

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 5:10am

There’s something peaceful about being up when the moon is out and the stars are twinkling in the sky. Whether you’re on your phone, catching up on shows or enjoying the rare quiet that comes after the sun goes down, that time can feel like your own little pocket of the day. However, sometimes being all by yourself can feel a little lonely, too, and may make you wish you had a feline companion by your side that makes those moments even sweeter. So if you’ve ever wondered what cat breeds are the best for night owls, you’re in luck because vets are sharing their top ones below.

While many kitties happily snooze the day away, experts say some are more likely than others to stick around for your midnight routine. So, night owls looking for a pet that loves human company may find that certain playful and active cat breeds are a better fit than others when it comes to bonding in the evening.

Of course, the best match for people who stay up late isn’t necessarily a cat that’s awake all night. It may simply be one that is a little more attached and wants to be where you are, whether that’s at 10 p.m. or well past midnight.

“Cats are generally crepuscular, which means many are naturally most active around dawn and dusk rather than truly nocturnal,” says veterinarian Dr. Sarah Wooten. “That said, some breeds are especially social, people-oriented and interactive, which may make them better companions for owners who are awake later at night.”

Keep in mind that every cat is an individual and factors like age, environment and early socialization all play a role, too. Still, if you’re looking for the best cats for people who stay up late, these seven are worth considering, according to vets, whether you’re planning on adopting a cat from a shelter or opening your home to a foster cat.

For some cats, bedtime is less of a rule and more of a suggestion. So if your ideal evening includes talking out loud, working at your desk or having a cat who has plenty to say, a Siamese will happily keep the conversation going as they have chatty personalities.

“If their person is awake late, many Siamese cats are likely to stay close, seek interaction or communicate with their owner rather than retreating to another room,” Wooten explains.

After all, Siamese cats have rightfully earned their reputation as one of the most social and expressive cat breeds, which is why they are so beloved. Plus, since Siamese cats want to be involved in whatever their humans are doing, regardless of the hour, you can count on them to be an amazing late-night buddy if you don’t go to bed early.

5 Traits of the Happiest Dogs Most Pet Parents Miss, According to a Trainer

Sun, 08/16/2026 - 5:10am

As a pet parent, you have tons of questions that pop into your head. Of those, they mostly have to do with your pup’s well-being. After all, your furry companion isn’t just a pet, they are part of your family, so you want to make sure they feel safe, comfortable and are in a good mood. As a result, one question you probably ask yourself daily is, “How do you know if your dog is happy?” According to Bridget Murphy, the CEO of Koru K9 Dog Training, it can be hard to get a one-size-fits-all answer to that one as each dog is different.

“Happiness does not look exactly the same in every dog,” Murphy explains. “Some dogs are outgoing and playful, while others are happiest with a quiet routine, snuggles and the people they trust.” However, even though dogs are individuals, there are common qualities that dogs with a positive emotional state share.

The tricky part is, dogs won’t verbally say, “I’m happy,” and most don’t even smile (though some do). Because of that, Murphy explains dogs use their behavior and body language to let people know how they really feel.

“Learning to read those signs helps you understand whether they feel safe, comfortable, connected and fulfilled,” Murphy reveals. “It also helps you notice when something changes. A dog who suddenly stops playing, interacting, eating normally or resting comfortably may be experiencing stress, discomfort or illness.”

To bring out your dog’s happy traits, Murphy says you’ll want to focus on the basics, including the physical and mental stimulation they need. Think walks, trips to the park, training and engaging games (“and, of course, lots of toys and treats,” Murphy smiles). But most importantly, Murphy suggests making it personal by paying attention to the pup in front of you.

“One dog might enjoy pets on the head, while another may not like it at all,” Murphy explains. “What makes one dog happy may overwhelm another, so learning what your dog likes and what motivates them will keep them happy and create an amazing bond and relationship with you based on trust and respect.”

So if your dog displays these 5 traits, they’re probably one of the happiest dogs around, according to vets. See how many your pet does!

Related: 7 Signs Your Dog Forgives You When You Hurt Their Feelings, According to a Vet

5 Trait of the Happy Dogs A dog full of joy around its pet parent.

What do the happiest dogs do? Murphy says they often showcase these things.

1. They’re playful

Murphy notes that playfulness is generally a strong hint that your dog is feeling cheerful. After all, dogs who play with you usually trust you and feel at ease with you.

“A happy dog may bring you a toy, initiate a game, offer a play bow or simply become more animated when something interests them,” Murphy says. “There’s no better way to show your dog that you love them than by engaging in a game with them—if that is what they love.”

On the other hand, Murphy reports that highly stressed, shut-down or physically uncomfortable dogs find it challenging to relax enough to play.

“That is why a return to play can also be an important sign of progress in fearful or anxious dogs,” Murphy notes. “Remember, play looks different depending on age, health, and personality. A senior dog going on a gentle walk with you can be just as happy as a young dog running through the house.”

2. They show genuine excitement when you return

Murphy explains that one of the clearest traits of a happy dog is a relaxed, enthusiastic greeting when you come home. That means they will display loose body language, wagging tails and soft eyes upon your return or they may want to be near you ASAP. She says that dogs who are upbeat and full of joy when you come home link your presence to safety and connection. Just remember that greeting styles can vay and some dogs are more quiet in how they show they are glad to see you.

“Some dogs make a huge production out of your arrival, while others quietly follow you into the room or lean against your leg,” Murphy clarifies. “The key is that the greeting looks happy rather than panicked. A dog can be excited to see you without becoming distressed every time you leave.”

Related: 5 Words That Feel Like Praise to Dogs, According to a Trainer

3. They’re curious and engaged

When it comes to behaviors that show your dog is content, pay attention to how they act on walks. Why? Dogs who are feeling good are usually willing to “sniff out” new things, especially with their favorite human (you) around. “A happy and relaxed dog is often curious about the world around them,” Murphy says. “They may enjoy sniffing on walks, exploring new environments or engaging with familiar people and dogs.”

Though, comfortable and curious dogs are not always big fans of other dogs, cats or humans. So if your pup falls into that group it doesn’t necessarily make them unhappy or unfriendly. “Some dogs and dog breeds are naturally social, while others are more selective or reserved,” Murphy adds. “What matters most is whether they can move through the world without being chronically fearful, shut down or overwhelmed.”

All-in-all, curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to explore are all qualities that can reflect a dog’s natural happiness and zest for life.

4. They’re affectionate in their own way

Secure dogs who are happy may have their own unique way of showing it and it can be displayed in affectionate traits. What are the ways dogs show affection, though? “A dog who chooses to approach, lean against you, rest nearby or ask for touch is showing trust and comfort,” Murphy explains. “For some dogs, that includes rolling over for a belly rub—who doesn’t love that?”

While every dog shows affection differently, choosing to seek out connection and closeness is a trait of a dog who feels good, safe and secure with their people.

5. They choose to rest near you

Dog who are thriving can show you by where they choose to rest. Since dogs are pack animals, they’re most vulnerable when they sleep. Loving to co-sleep with you, settle at your feet or curl up on the same sofa is a sign that your dog is content because they trust and feel safe with you.

“They may also enjoy your warmth, scent and companionship,” Murphy adds. “Many dogs simply feel more settled when their people are close—just like we feel about them! The important part is that the dog is choosing the interaction. A loose body, deep sleep and relaxed breathing are all signs that they feel at ease.”

Overall, those little moments of closeness are part of how dogs show that they enjoy your company and value their bond with you.

Trader Joe's $3 Grain-Free Dog Treats Are Made With Ingredients That Sound Good Enough for Humans

Sat, 08/15/2026 - 8:50pm

As an allergy dog mom, it’s sometimes hard to find treats for my pup that meet all his dietary needs, especially since he is both ingredient-sensitive and very food-motivated. We love having a plethora of different treats as rewards for training or a special enrichment treat when it’s too hot to burn off all of his energy during the day.

We tend to lean into single- or limited-ingredient treats. But every now and then, we find some treats with a simple set of ingredients that almost seem human-friendly. Trader Joe’s is well-known for stocking some of the best foods and treats for humans, but they also have quite a few treats for our furry friends, including these grain-free dog treats that sound good enough to snack on.

Grain-Free Dog Treats With Peanut Butter & Banana, $2.99 at Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe's

Our pup isn’t the only one with allergies in our house. Three out of four of us have multiple allergies, ranging from simple to complicated, and I love that we can always find something for us at Trader Joe’s. But it’s even better that I can find something for our allergy-challenged pup too that won’t trigger any of our allergies, too.

Since gluten and wheat are major allergens for us, we lean toward grain-free options like these Grain-Free Peanut Butter & Banana dog bone-shaped treats. While many treats have peanut butter flavoring, these bones utilize real, dog-safe peanut butter and dehydrated bananas for a robust flavor that’s reminiscent of a peanut butter and banana sandwich.

These bones have a few more ingredients to help them hold their shape while keeping the list pretty clean. Rounding out the list are chickpeas, molasses, coconut flour, sunflower oil and tapioca starch. To keep them fresh, the ingredients also include citric acid, mixed tocopherols and some rosemary extract.

I love that they have real, recognizable ingredients, which makes me feel better about giving them to my pup. If your pup is calorie-conscious, one of these bones is only 15 calories. Of course, you can always break them in half to make them last a bit longer or split the calories into a more palatable 7.5 calories for smaller pups.

The yummy treats come in a 10.5-ounce box for only $2.99, so you won’t have to worry too much about your wallet screaming at you for buying another box of treats for your pup.

Treats tend to fly off the shelves at my local store, especially at such an affordable price. So if you want a box, head on over to your local Trader Joe’s to get one of two bags for your pooch to enjoy.
