1982 Country Classic That Almost Wasn’t Played on the Radio
A 1982 country classic nearly missed radio play over one element that was considered too controversial for the genre at the time.
Alabama reached the top of the Billboard Country Music charts in 1982 with the song "Mountain Music." However, what seemed like a bona fide country hit was thought to be not country enough.
According to The Boot, "Mountain Music" initially faced pushback from Alabama's record label. The reason? The song contained a drum solo, unheard of in country music at the time.
It took several years for band frontman Randy Owen, to write the song. It reportedly told a story of his childhood growing up in Adamsburg, Alabama.

Owen said, as reported by The Boot, "I had written this song, and I was so excited about it. I told the folks at RCA, 'I've written a song, and it's got a drum solo in it!' They were like, 'Radio'll never play that.'"
He continued that the drum solo was included so that bandmate Jeff Cook "would have time to put the guitar down and pick up the fiddle."

Owen said that some of the lyrics used phrases he understood growing up in the south, but might have been difficult for those who grew up outside the area.
"I got a little trouble out of this song, too, because some of the lyrics were not discernible. 'Skinnin' cats' was an exercise that me and the other boys did on hickory trees. We'd bend 'em [the trees] over, and then we'd chin ourselves and turn ourselves inside out, because we didn't have the kind of playground equipment that you folks see today," he explained.

According to the website Musixmatch, the song "reminisces about simpler times and the joy of connecting with nature and one's roots through music. The lyrics use metaphors like climbing mountains, floating down rivers, and playing back-home music to evoke a sense of nostalgia and freedom, encouraging listeners to appreciate the beauty of the natural world and the comfort of familiar tunes."
Alabama won the Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal Grammy for "Mountain Music" at the 25th Grammy Awards in 1983 and Favorite Country Group at the American Music Awards. According to the band's official website, the group has sold 73 million albums, is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Wearing a stunning red blazer revealing a black bra along with matching red pants and a chain belt, Bullock’s look comes from Gabriela Hearst’s Resort 2026 collection.
That same evening, Bullock and Nicole stepped onto CinemaCon’s stage holding hands to show their movie’s new teaser trailer.

“Why do we come here, Nicole?” Bullock asked. Kidman replied with her iconic AMC promo line, “We come to this place for magic!”
The Practical Magic sequel will reintroduce the sisters, as they continue to live their magical lives in the Owens family home. Bullock said they rebuilt the original house on the cliff and filled it with old and new characters.
“Home is what this is, and getting to return to these characters that have been so loved and so shared, it really has been magical. And being back together, it just clicked,” Kidman said.
In November 2025, National Enquirer reported that Bullock and Kidman are “closer than ever” after filming the new movie. While Kidman navigated her divorce from Keith Urban and Bullock continued to mourn the loss of her husband Bryan Randall, the stars leaned on each other.
“Sandra and Nicole are much closer now than they were almost 30 years ago when they made the first movie, and that was the whole goal of this project!” A source told National Enquirer. “This is going to keep running for the next year or so as they finish the cut of the movie and get out there to publicize it.”
Practical Magic 2 is set to release on September 18.
Ben Stiller's New 'Meet the Parents' Movie Stars This Iconic Pop Star
Following her success in Wicked, pop artist and actress Ariana Grande returns for a new movie alongside Ben Stiller.
Continuing Stiller’s Meet the Parents franchise, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, Focker In-Law also stars Robert De Niro. Grande will play a character named Olivia, as Stiller returns to his role as Greg Focker. A 16-second first look at the film was released today, with a trailer debuting tomorrow.
“A young man named Henry, son of Greg and Pam Focker, faces family chaos when he decides to marry a strong-willed woman who appears to be his complete mismatch,” IMDb lists as Focker In-Law’s film description.
The first look shows Grande getting ready for a lie detector test, Stiller walking in and greeting her, and concludes with Grande answering a question during the test. Since its debut on Instagram this morning, fans have already been expressing their excitement for the new film.
“OMG I’m seriously going to die!!!! This is going to be phenomenal- exactly what we all need right now,” one user commented on an Instagram post made in collaboration with Focker In-Law, Universal Pictures and Stiller.
Even Regal Movies commented on the post: “Ariana what are you doing here? 🤩”
In November 2025, Stiller appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he praised Grande’s talent in Focker In-Law. He noted that this isn’t the first time he’s been in a movie with Grande. She made a cameo in 2016’s Zoolander 2, but Stiller said that filming Focker In-Law was the first time he had seen Grande since.
“She’s so great with comedy,” Stiller said during the interview. “She was amazing in Wicked, and she’s such a good singer, obviously, too. … I feel like she could do anything.”

When looking at the overall trajectory of American film, few movies have managed to accomplish as much as George A. Romero's wildly influential horror movie, Night of the Living Dead.
Arriving in theaters in 1968, Night of the Living Dead single-handedly redefined what horror could look like in mainstream film, transforming the entire horror landscape (as well as low-budget independent filmmaking in the process).
Set against the backdrop of a global zombie apocalypse, Night of the Living Dead most famously served as the prototypal zombie movie of the modern era, influencing everything from Shaun of the Dead to the popular Resident Evil horror games in the process.
Like the titular creatures that menace the hapless human survivors in the film, it now seems that the living dead are officially set to return in an upcoming Night of the Living Dead remake set for release later this year.
As seen in a recent trailer for the film shared on YouTube, the new Night of the Living Dead acts as a modern-day retelling of the original movie. Starring Vivica A. Fox, Brittany Underwood, Richard Gabai, Dee Wallace and the late Robert Carradine, the film is likely to release later this year, although full details about the movie's release are yet to be announced.
Of course, with the original Night of the Living Dead's success back in the late 1960s, it's hardly a surprise that the franchise remains alive and well nearly six decade later.
Along with a steady supply of sequels (including the equally well-loved Dawn of the Dead), Romero's film also provided the inspiration for several remakes over the years, including a 1990 version directed by horror legend Tom Savini.
To day, however, none of these remakes have come close to rivaling the success of the original, as seen through the numerous accolades Night of the Living Dead has received in the decades since its release.

The eerie quiet of an empty subway station is a familiar sight for any late-night commuter, but a new Japanese horror sensation is turning that experience into a waking nightmare. Exit 8, a live-action adaptation of the viral 'liminal space' video game wave, surprised industry analysts by cracking the domestic specialty box office Top 10 this past weekend. While big-budget sequels often dominate the charts, this minimalist thriller is capturing the public imagination by tapping into a very specific, modern kind of unease.
The premise is simple. A man finds himself trapped in an endless, pristine underground passageway in Japan. To escape, he must walk toward the eighth exit. However, there is a catch: he must look for anomalies. If anything, a poster, a fellow passenger, anything at all, looks slightly different than it did before, he must immediately turn around and run. If everything looks normal, he must keep moving forward. It is a high-stakes game of 'spot the difference' where a single mistake resets the loop or leads to a much darker fate.
This 'liminal space' subgenre of horror does not rely on traditional monsters or jump scares. It uses the unsettling feeling of being in a place that should be full of people but is instead completely desolate. For the generation that grew up sharing 'uncomfortable' images of empty malls online, Exit 8 may be the first film to successfully translate that to the silver screen. And others are coming soon, such as the web-short-turned-feature-film 'Backrooms'.

Over the past several days, TikTok and YouTube have been flooded with 'reaction' videos and deep dives into the film’s hidden details. This level of engagement has transformed what would have been a small indie release into a bigger event as viewers head to theaters specifically to see if they can spot the clues before the characters do.
For mainstream audiences, the success of Exit 8 recalls the late-nineties wave of Japanese horror hits like The Ring and The Grudge. Those films found terror in everyday objects like cassette tapes and landline phones. This new hit does the same for the modern commute, ensuring that the next time you find yourself walking down a long, tiled hallway, you might just find yourself looking a little more closely at the signs on the wall.
1992 Country Song Wasn't Expected to Be a Success—Then It Hit No. 1
Billy Ray Cyrus rocked the country music world in the early '90s with the release of "Achy Breaky Heart" — but the famous song wasn't always so popular.
Prior to Cyrus' recording of the catchy country tune, "Achy Breaky Heart," was turned down by another country act who passed on the song, only for it to later become a massive hit that would break records and launch Cyrus to stardom.
According to American Songwriter, "Achy Breaky Heart," written by an amateur songwriter named Don Von Tress, had already been pitched to the Oak Ridge Boys before Cyrus recorded it, but the group passed after not loving the "achy breaky" phrasing.
It had also been recorded by the Marcy Brothers before Cyrus put his spin on it. The trio, made up of brothers Kevin, Kris and Kendall Marcy, released it on their 1991 self-titled album, though it was named "Don't Break My Heart" at the time.
But it was Cyrus' 1991 recording that would bring "Achy Breaky Heart" unexpected mainstream success, despite Von Tress previously admitting he was just "fooling around on the guitar and drum machine" when the song was born, per Country Living.
After Cyrus' version was released in April 1991, it took less than two months for it to reach No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, where it stayed for a five-week reign. It became the first country single to go platinum in nearly a decade, following the success of Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's 1983 duet "Islands in the Stream. "Achy Breaky Heart" even inspired a dance to go along with it, which helped line dancing go mainstream.
The song would live to be featured and referenced in a number of popular shows, such as The Simpsons, South Park, Hart of Dixie, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist and more. It was also frequently referenced in episodes of Hannah Montana, starring Cyrus and his daughter, Miley Cyrus.
According to Cyrus, he always knew the song was going to be something special. He wrote in his 2013 memoir Hillbilly Heart, "Once I got a hold of it, I never let that song out of my grasp." (via Country Living.)
The Oak Ridge Boys, however, would live to regret passing up on the song, a decision ultimately made by lead vocalist Duane Allen. Fellow band member Joe Bonsall told Country Weekly in 1998, "It's one of the few times we kind of tanked...Duane still shakes his head about that one today."

In fact, no trip to Chicago is complete without a boat tour of the architecture. My personal recommendation is to book a tour with Chicago Line Cruises, the original company to offer these tours. It’s a 90-minute river cruise with a knowledgeable docent pointing out notable buildings and their fascinating histories. You can even book themed sailings, such as a whiskey tasting cruise.

Speaking of views, you’ll want to grab tickets for the whole gang to visit the 360 Chicago Observation Deck, where you’ll get panoramic views showing the entire city and its 77 neighborhoods. However, the real highlight is the TILT experience, which “leans” you over the edge of the building for even better views. Afterward, your crew would enjoy cocktails at Cloud Bar, which offers even more surreal views of the Chicago skyline. It is the highest bar in the city! And, the drinks are pretty tasty.
After you’ve spent time shopping on the Magnificent Mile, commemorate your girls' trip with permanent bracelets. It's not only a fun and easy bonding activity but a long-lasting souvenir that won’t take up space or add any clutter. On Friday, April 10, tm:rw announced that the Hall of Famer has joined the company as an investor, partner, and global ambassador. The roughly 22,000-square-foot space, which opened in July 2025, houses over 120 brands inside a fully immersive environment featuring everything from Formula 1 driving simulators and advanced robotics to AI-powered holograms. According to a press release, O'Neal will actively shape the company's future, supporting global expansion, brand strategy, and live experiences.
"I've always believed in being early on ideas that can really change how people live and experience the world," O'Neal said in the announcement. "This isn't just about tech, tm:rw is building something completely different. It is not just a store, it is an experience."

What a difference almost 40 years makes. Jamie Foxx is an Oscar winner. Jim Carrey is a global icon. Jennifer Lopez is... well, she’s J-Lo. But thirty-six years ago on April 15, they were all the new kids on a loud, neon-soaked set in a dusty corner of the FOX lot.
They weren't stars yet. They were the people Keenen Ivory Wayans hired because the mainstream networks didn't know what to do with them.
When you tally up the estimated fortunes of the big three alumni: Carrey ($180M), Lopez ($400M), Foxx ($170M), the math hits $750 million. That is three-quarters of a billion dollars in pure entertainment muscle born from a single sketch show. And yet, for years, the show that built those bank accounts was forgotten.
The humor was raw. It was the nineties, and the rules were different. Wayans has said: "You can only be as good as the time period that you live in, with the information that you have."
Back then, the show took aim at everything. They mocked Michael Jackson, spoofed the Rodney King riots, and created characters like Handi-Boy or Blaine and Antoine that would probably make a modern network lawyer faint. But the intent wasn't just to shock. It was a predominantly Black writers' room finally getting to tell their own jokes about their own culture.
Comedy has changed since then. We have more information now, more nuance. But while the “how" has shifted, the "why" remains the same: people want to see the truth, even if it’s wrapped in a ridiculous wig.
To see the influence of In Living Color today, don’t look only at the sitcoms. Look at the music.
In 2018, Bruno Mars dropped "Finesse" with Cardi B. The video was a frame-for-frame love letter. The paint-splattered intro, the rooftop dance sets, the baggy vertical stripes—it was all there. Bruno didn't steal the look; he called Wayans to get his blessing. Mars even hired the original set designers to make sure the paint cans looked right.
Why? Because that aesthetic, the Fly Girls, the New Jack Swing, the pure uncut swagger, is the high-water mark for cool.
The show didn't stop at influencing music videos. It broke the door down for Chappelle’s Show, Key & Peele, and Wild ‘n Out. You could build your own, invite the weirdest, funniest people you knew, and throw a party that the rest of the world couldn't help but crash. Prince Harry emotionally reflected on his childhood during a visit to Australia, stating there was "room for improvement" in King Charles' parenting.
During a visit to the land down under, Harry sat down for a wide-ranging chat during a Q&A for Movember at Western Bulldogs headquarters at Mission Whitten Oval, reported News.com.au.
In an interview with the organization's Global Director of Men’s Health Research, Dr. Zac Seidler, Harry reflected on Charles' parenting style and how it has influenced his own choices as a father to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
He stated, "I see parenting evolving over time. I think it always has, just… from my perspective, our kids are our upgrade."

The Duke of Sussex then said that certain conversations he must have with his two children now were not issues when he and his brother, Prince William, were growing up, such as the influence of social media.

Harry also touched on how he and his wife, Meghan [Markle], resolve conflicts in their marriage regarding historically gender-defining parenting roles.

1978 Rock Hit With ‘Stupid Guitar Riff’ Was Praised by John Lennon
The B-52s’ “Rock Lobster” is a bonkers clambake of surf rock, kitschy lyrics, and psychedelic nonsense that is also fun, inimitable, and pure rock genius.
Released in April 1978, the quirky new-wave track served as the band’s signature debut single before landing on the band’s 1979 self-titled debut album. To hear drummer Keith Strickland share the story of the song’s origin, it started as a joke no one could shake.
View this post on Instagram“I’d been friends with Ricky [Wilson] since we were 16 in high school,” Strickland told Uncut (May 2015 print issue, published digitally April 12, 2026). “I walked in, and he’s playing the guitar and laughing. I go, ‘What’s so funny?’ and he says, ‘I’ve just written the most stupid guitar riff ever.’ And he plays the ‘Rock Lobster’ riff. He knew it was good, but he also thought it was funny — that was Ricky’s sense of humour.”
Add in frontman Fred Schneider’s signature sprechgesang, plus some sea creature sound effects courtesy of bandmates Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson, and the track was ready for consumption. To their surprise, it was hit. “Rock Lobster” peaked at No. 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1980, topped charts in Canada, and even hooked the attention of one of rock’s biggest icons.
“John Lennon said a few times that he liked the song,” Strickland recalled. “Of course, this is something we didn’t know until after he had been killed; so it was quite bittersweet to hear it. It blew my mind because The Beatles were the reason why I wanted to be an artist at all.”

According to Uncut, the track even helped inspire Lennon’s return to the studio, where he began work on Double Fantasy with his wife, Yoko Ono.
"Rock Lobster," though it may sound like a joke or a good-time track, the band never treated it that way. “We started out as a party band,” Schneider told the mag, “and we all had a good sense of humour. But we don’t do our songs in a funny way, we want to kick a–. We want to rock.”
And rock, they do.

Royal Caribbean Just Revealed its Most Ambitious Entertainment Roster to Date for the New Legend of the Seas
If you thought the "biggest ship in the world" era had peaked, Royal Caribbean is here to remind us that they’re just getting started. This July, the new Legend of the Seas will set a new standard for entertainment at sea, blending headline-worthy productions across stage, air, water, and ice.
For those of us who track the evolution of cruising, this isn't just about more seats in the theater—it’s about a record-breaking 28 spots to dine and drink and a lineup of immersive experiences that feel more like a high-tech residency in Vegas or London than a traditional cruise.
While we’ve already heard about the arrival of Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and the massive America’s Got Talent LIVE partnership, we now have the full picture of the "next-level" original productions.

View this post on InstagramIn the AquaTheater, the new show Shockwave is being described as a "battle for the beat." It’s an aggressive, bass-dropping spectacle where street dance and classical ballet collide, featuring high-divers twisting through the air alongside aerialists and artistic swimmers. It’s a literal deep-dive into the "force and fragility" of water, set against a backdrop of synchronized robots and a 55-foot waterfall.
The ice is getting a tech-heavy glow-up too. Over at Absolute Zero—the largest ice arena at sea—the debut show Fusion will use high-resolution digital projection mapping to instantly transform the entire rink. The production capture the raw forces of fire, wind, and water, with all-star skaters performing jaw-dropping stunts on a surface that changes from a frozen wasteland to a fiery landscape in a split second.
But for families who live in the Surfside neighborhood, the "Experience Economy" is going a bit more whimsical. The newly announced Quack Bash is a massive, rubber-duck-themed block party complete with bubble-filled games and music, while the Larger Than Life Family Festival will turn the deck into a playground of giant ring-toss and darts. For a more "weathered and perfect" moment, the Voyage to Adventure parade will debut in the Royal Promenade, celebrating global destinations with a high-energy musical processional.

Of course, the "eatertainment" remains the anchor of the evening. The Royal Railway – Legend Station will take diners on a five-course journey along the Silk Routes, while the Hollywoodland Supper Club channels the golden age of cinema from the 1910s to the 50s. With over 45 musicians performing across 20 bars and seven live music venues—including the fan-favorite Dueling Pianos and the jazzy Lou’s—Legend is proving that the best "Smart Stay" isn't just about where you sleep; it's about the energy that keeps going from dawn to dusk.
What sets this lineup apart is the sheer scale of the "memory making" design. Whether it’s a father-daughter dance in the Music Hall or the meticulous "from-scratch" storytelling in the AquaTheater, Royal Caribbean is proving that tech is at its best when it's serving a real, emotional connection—a pivot back to making sure the guest doesn't just see a show, but feels like they’re part of a moment.
