The Brat Pack Movies, Ranked From Worst to Best

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 6:30am

The term Brat Pack was coined by writer David Blum in a 1985 New York Magazine story, and went on to define a generation of Young Hollywood, for better or worse. The group, which Blum described at the time as “a roving band of famous young stars on the prowl for parties, women, and a good time,” has never had a formal definition, and there’s plenty of room for debate on who exactly counts as a member.

But the Brat Pack inner circle is generally understood to be the following actors: Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Demi Moore and Andrew McCarthy.

McCarthy directed the Hulu documentary Brats, a deeply personal journey down memory lane that explores the cultural moment that produced the Brat Pack phenomenon, and sees McCarthy reuniting with several fellow members. “The Brat Pack is who people say it is,” McCarthy told The Guardian in an interview about the doc, “because the Brat Pack never ‘existed’ in any real way. It’s more an idea of young actors who’d taken over Hollywood—we were the ones that were doing that at that moment, so we’re in the Brat Pack.”

As that quote suggests, there’s no single list of Brat Pack movies that everybody agrees on. The eleven films ranked below all feature at least two core members of the Brat Pack in prominent roles, making them the closest we have to an official canon.

The Brat Pack Movies, Ranked11. Wisdom (1986)

IMAGO / Cola Images

Brat Pack cast members: Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore

This romantic crime drama marked Estevez’s directorial debut, and sees him starring opposite Demi Moore as recent college grad John Wisdom, who falls into an unlikely line of work as a Robin Hood-esque petty criminal, stealing money from big banks and giving it back to low-income folks by fraudulently erasing loan records. The film was panned by critics, and Estevez later admitted that the reception had been “a very disappointing experience—the outcome of it. I shouldn't say disappointing, I should say devastating.”

10. Class (1983)

IMAGO / United Archives

Brat Pack cast members: Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy

This comedy-drama is interesting only in the sense that it’s one of the earliest Brat Pack movies, marking McCarthy’s screen debut and Lowe’s second-ever role. McCarthy stars as a high schooler who wins the chance to attend a ritzy prep school, where his roommate Skip (Lowe) helps to bring him out of his shell.

9. Oxford Blues (1984)

IMAGO / United Archives

Brat Pack members: Rob Lowe, Ally Sheedy

This sports drama has the distinction of being the only British movie in the core Brat Pack canon, and is a remake of a 1930s MGM movie titled A Yank at Oxford. Rob Lowe stars as an American who follows the woman of his dreams to Oxford University, alongside Ally Sheedy as an American classmate who helps to shift his perspective. It received poor reviews and flopped at the box office, making it one of the more forgettable Brat Pack projects.

8. St. Elmo’s Fire (1985)

IMAGO/United Archives

Brat Pack cast members: Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy

No single movie features more of the core Brat Pack group than St. Elmo’s Fire, a coming-of-age comedy-drama, which centers on a group of recent Georgetown University graduates grappling to adjust to the responsibilities of adult life. Written and directed by Joel Schumacher, the film was slated by critics after its release and earned Rob Lowe a Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actor. Despite all this, it became an unexpected box office smash and is now regarded by many as a cult classic.

7. Fresh Horses (1988)

IMAGO / United Archives

Brat Pack members: Andrew McCarthy, Molly Ringwald

Pretty In Pink pair Ringwald and McCarthy reunite in this romantic coming-of-age drama, which follows a college senior (McCarthy) who upends his life after falling for a mysterious and troubled young woman (Ringwald) in a rural part of Kentucky.

6. Betsy’s Wedding (1990)

Brat Pack cast members: Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy

This romantic comedy is written and directed by Alan Alda, and stars Molly Ringwald as the eponymous Betsy, whose working class father (Alda) spirals after discovering just how wealthy her fiancé’s family is, and goes to great lengths to over-compensate. It’s neither a great nor a terrible movie, but Brat Pack fans will have fun watching Ringwald and her Breakfast Club co-star Ally Sheedy reuniting to play sisters.

5. About Last Night… (1986)

IMAGO / United Archives

Brat Pack cast members: Rob Lowe, Demi Moore

Based on a David Mamet play titled Sexual Perversity in Chicago, this raunchy romantic comedy stars Rob Lowe and Demi Moore as two Chicago twenty-somethings who try to turn their casual courtship into something more permanent, despite neither of them having been in a serious relationship before.

About Last Night…was both a commercial hit and a critical success, with the legendary film critic Roger Ebertwriting: "Lowe and Moore, members of Hollywood's 'Brat Pack,' are survivors of last summer's awful movie about yuppie singles, St. Elmo's Fire. This is the movie St. Elmo's Fire should have been. Last summer's movie made them look stupid and shallow. About Last Night… gives them the best acting opportunities either one has ever had, and they make the most of them.”

4. Sixteen Candles (1984)

IMAGO / United Archives

Brat Pack cast members: Anthony Michael Hall, Molly Ringwald

John Hughes is the off-camera MVP of the Brat Pack, having either written or directed three out of the 11 movies on this list. This directorial debut set the tone for the string of coming-of-age classics that would define his career. Molly Ringwald, who would go on to become Hughes’s muse, stars as a high schooler who suffers numerous indignities leading up to her sixteenth birthday—starting with her family forgetting all about the occasion—but also draws the attention of a classmate she’s long had a crush on.

3. Pretty In Pink (1986)

IMAGO / United Archives

Brat Pack cast members: Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy

Though it’s often talked about as part of John Hughes’s filmography alongside Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, Hughes actually didn’t direct this classic teen rom-com, though he did write the script and served as a co-executive producer. Molly Ringwald stars as Andie, a high school outcast who is forced out of her social comfort zone when she unexpectedly falls for a rich and popular jock (played by Andrew McCarthy, who directed the Brats documentary, which is now streaming on Hulu).

2. The Outsiders (1983)

IMAGO / United Archives

Brat Pack cast members: Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez

One of the earliest movies in the canon, Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders is part of the definitive trio of Brat Pack films (alongside St. Elmo’s Fire and The Breakfast Club), and transformed its young male cast into overnight teen idols. Based on the coming-of-age novel of the same name by S.E. Hinton, the movie follows the escalating conflict between two rival teen gangs in a small Oklahoma town. Along with core Brat Pack members Lowe and Estevez, The Outsiders also features a number of Pack-adjacent actors, including Tom Cruise and Matt Dillon.

1. The Breakfast Club (1985)

IMAGO / United Archives

Brat Pack cast members: Emilio Estevez, Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy

Though it’s hard to pick a favorite from Hughes’s trio of definitive Brat Pack movies, The Breakfast Club has to take the top spot. Not only are all five of its young stars core members of the Brat Pack, but the movie itself is an enduring gem, centering on five high schoolers from wildly different walks of life who end up thrown together for a life-changing Saturday detention.

It was one of the biggest box office hits of the '80s, grossing more than $50 million against a $1 million production budget, and remains one of Hughes’s most critically acclaimed movies.

‘Wheel of Fortune’ Player Breaks Silence After Costly Puzzle Mistake

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 6:12am

A Wheel of Fortune contestant has broken their silence after a costly puzzle mistake.

The correct response would have clinched a victory, but after his miss, control of the game shifted. Another contestant moved on to the Bonus Round, ultimately missing out on a $61,000 prize during the series's February 25th episode, reported TV Insider.

Contestant Jack Marquardt, from Chicago, Illinois, admitted the expression that tripped him up was one he’d never encountered before. He played against Rachel Anderson, from Ionia, Iowa, and Alexis Wiggley, from Westhampton, New Jersey.

The error occurred during the series' Prize Puzzle round when Marquardt tried to solve the puzzle by answering, “Having a Shake of a Good Time." Unfortunately, that answer was incorrect.

Wiggley provided the correct response, which was "Having a Whale of a Good Time." This mistake eliminated Marquardt from the competition.

The contestant later took to Reddit, where he responded to viewers who couldn't believe he missed what they thought was an obvious puzzle solve. He revealed it wasn't a phrase he was familiar with.

Marquardt wrote, "Ok, to be fair, I knew it was a digraph with an 'h' and 's' was still on the board. 'Shake' followed the digraph-vce pattern based on what was left. Unfortunately, I’m a moron and didn’t know the phrase 'whale of a good time.'"

He added, "I had 2 goals: 1) win big or 2) say something really stupid. I made goal number 2!!!"

When some Redditors said that it wasn't fair to criticize, Marquardt added, "No, it’s fine! I’m honestly enjoying the national roasting. Honestly, it was a dream of mine when I was eight, applied a year ago after not watching for 30 years, failed upwards. Good times!"

Wheel of Fortune airs weeknights in syndication. The series stars Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White.

The Country Legend Behind The Monkees First Album

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 6:10am

The Monkees’ first album featured a future country legend's signature guitar playing, giving the record its bright, infectious sound years before he became a star in his own right.

Glen Campbell was a member of a Los Angeles-based group of musicians called The Wrecking Crew. The band provided music for many of the era's most popular groups, including Elvis Presley, The Byrds, The Mamas And The Papas, Harry Nilsson, The Beach Boys, Sam Cooke, Carpenters, The Ronettes, Simon and Garfunkel, Frank Sinatra, and Nancy Sinatra, according to U Discover Music.

The Monkees provided vocals for their first album. The Wrecking Crew made the music.

The band's first album was released in October 1966, on Colgems Records. Its producers were Tommy Boyce, Bobby Hart, Jack Keller, and Monkees member Mike Nesmith.

Alongside Campbell, members of the Wrecking Crew added their talents on backing vocals, giving The Monkees’ debut album a rich, full sound that perfectly showcased the talents of Mike Nesmith, Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, and Peter Tork. The record would ultimately reach Billboard's top spot, followed by four more No. 1 LPs in one year, a feat that has yet to be replicated.

Additionally, Campbell and members of The Wrecking Crew played the music on The Monkees second LP, More of the Monkees. Songs he provided guitar work for included "Mary Mary," "Papa Gene's Blues," "Sweet Young Thing," "The Kind of Girl I Could Love," and "You Just May Be the One," among others.

After he became a bona fide country superstar, The Monkees returned the favor for all of Campbell's hard work in the early part of their career by appearing on The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour in 1969. Only three out of four Monkees members performed, as Peter Tork left the group after recording the album Head in 1968.

Glen Campbell would become one of country music's defining artists of the 1970s and beyond. His work with The Monkees was just an early chapter in a career that would make him a household name and a country music legend. Campbell died at 81 on August 8, 2017.

This Cool & Campy Hollywood Hotel is The Perfect Winter Escape

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 6:10am

Fair or unfair, “The Valley” has never been known as LA’s coolest area. As someone who lived on “the other side of the hill” (as it’s known by locals) for years, though, I have always had friends—especially ones with kids—who swear by it for its convenience, adorable enclaves and lower key vibes.

Now, The Garland Hotel is making their point for them.

First, I should say, I have perhaps a unique perspective on this sprawling city. I went to college in Southern California and lived in West Hollywood for many years before moving back to New York City, where I grew up. So, now, for me, visiting LA tends to feel at once like returning home and exploring a new place entirely, which is both fun and complicated.

For that reason (and as an ever-curious travel writer), I sometimes prefer to stay in areas I don’t know as well. It feels less disorienting, somehow. So, recently, on a trip back to LA on book tour, I had the pleasure of staying at a hotel—in North Hollywood in the Valley of all places—that was entirely new to me: Enter The Garland.

I don’t know what I imagined, but, whatever it was, I’ll be honest and say it wasn’t this cute. Upon arriving at the circle driveway, I was immediately struck by the ranch-style façade strung with cheerful fairy lights. There’s an immediate retro sense of place here, despite it also feeling fresh, further underlined by an open lobby adorned with midcentury furniture, globe lights and unapologetic pops of orange that would do The Brady Bunchproud. (In fact, the actual Brady Bunch house is only minutes away and available for tours.)

Like many properties in and around Tinseltown, this 258-room hotel (with 12 suites—two of which are wellness-themed with Pelotons and more) has a bit of Hollywood lore: Though it has been very well-maintained with regular updates and facelifts (including a complete rebrand 10 years ago), it was originally established in 1970 by actressBeverly Garland and her husband, along with Las Vegas gaming industry legend, John Kell Houssels Jr. “They decided to build this urban oasis within the high-energy excitement of Los Angeles,” explains Scott A. Mills, the hotel’s general manager. “The hotel is still family-owned by the second generation!”

Perhaps that’s also why they nail the family-friendly vibe so well.

Related: You’ve Put Everyone Else First for Years—Why This Bahamas Resort Is the Ultimate Gen X Reset

Location, Location, Location

In LA, people are fond of describing locations not by their actual coordinates, but by what they’re “adjacent” to or nearby. That serves The Garland well, as it's in close proximity to several major attractions—for both adults and families. First, they’re a preferred hotel partner of Universal Studios Hollywood & City Walk and offer complimentary rides to and from in a turn-of-the-century-style trolley. The hotel is also conveniently located for those hoping to frequent The Hollywood Bowl, The Hollywood Walk of Fame, Dodger Stadium and Warner Bros. Studios. On a smaller scale, I also discovered a cute café with a decent matcha latte called Whata Peach nearby—which, to my point about amorphous LA locations, lists its neighborhood as "Studio City" despite being located only three blocks from the hotel.

Related: I’m 45 and Officially Done with ‘Average’ Travel—My Soul Needed This One Luxury Weekend More Than Three Cheap Ones

Kids Are Us

Despite enjoying a few days to myself, I found myself missing my kids here because The Garland offers so much for families. In addition to the nearby attractions, they offer bunkbed rooms for children. And, though it’s essentially an urban hotel, the seven-acre resort-style grounds allow them to create programming like nightly “Dive-In Movies” (or movies screened by the pool—a kid’s dream!), lawn games and live music in their courtyard. There’s even a taco cart, temporary tattoos and postcard coloring activities.

Parents—and visitors sans kids—can of course enjoy the pool, as well, or escape to sycamore-shaded outdoor yoga and even art tours.

Eating It Up

The Front Yard, the hotel’s indoor-outdoor restaurant, is not your average perfunctory hotel eatery. In fact, when I made brunch plans with friends, they suggested we eat there before knowing where in the area I was staying. So, it does attract locals as well as hotel guests. More than anything, it’s a nice, comfortable, charming place to sit for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. The menu includes California standards like avocado toast and kale Caesar salad, plus more adventurous items like charred shishito peppers with bottarga, shoyu and lemon and chive flat bread with cultured chimichurri butter. Deviled eggs with candied bacon round out the whole updated ‘70s vibe along with some other specialties. “Our 12-Minute Cheese Biscuits are a true staple,” enthuses Mills. “They’re made fresh to order and accompanied by our house-made whipped honey butter.”

The Icing On Top

The Store, an onsite gift shop, is also above par. Beyond a retro orange bike with a chalkboard and other treasures in its basket, the hotel boutique stocks all locally-sourced, California-related items—from sundries to home goods to accessories like jewelry—curated by Beverly Garland’s daughter, Carrington Goodman. Standouts include Goodman’s own Sky Ranch rosé.

For the property, there’s more upcoming with the addition of a coffee bar and a redo of the fitness center, as well as a green initiative solar panel project.

That’s no surprise. After all, there’s always something new—and old school—at The Garland.

The legendary vocalist recently recounted the mind-boggling story behind the making of "My Heart Will Go On," the love theme from Titanic that would end up becoming one of the most successful tracks of all time.

In a new video posted to Dion's Instagram page earlier this week, she looked back on the experience of recording "My Heart Will Go On," despite initially not wanting to sing it.

Dion explained in the clip that it was composer James Horner who really wanted her to sing the song for Titanic, even though director James Cameron wasn't too keen on the idea at first.

Once Horner played the song for Dion, her husband and manager René Angelil suggested that she "give it a try," but she didn't know her test-run of the song would end up on the actual soundtrack.

"I only sang it once. It was just to give it a try," Dion, 57, said in the video, noting that just before the recording, she drank a black coffee that made her a bit "jittery."

"It did change my vibrato," she said, claiming that it "didn't matter" to her at the time since she thought the demo wouldn't be going anywhere.

But ultimately, Horner added an orchestra to Dion's recording and presented the song to Cameron as an offer he couldn't refuse—and the rest was history.

The original one-take version of "My Heart Will Go On" was featured in Cameron's blockbuster film, while Dion wound up re-recording the vocals for the final version featured on her album, Let's Talk About Love.

"Just ONE TAKE was all it took to make a lifetime masterpiece," one user gushed in the comments on Instagram.

"So she sang that song once and nailed the climax, the dynamic and the breath control wow," another awestruck fan added.

Someone else told Dion, "That song wouldn't have been iconic, if not for you...you have made it a classic timeless creation."

"My Heart Will Go On" became 1998's best-selling single and won a record four Grammys, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. It was also voted a "Song of the Century" by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in 2001.

It was also voted the "top movie song of all time" by UK radio listeners in 2010, and it was ranked No. 21 on VH1's 100 Greatest '90s Songs.

In 2025, "My Heart Will Go On" was inducted into the Library of Congress National Recording Registry to preserve its cultural legacy.

"And it will go on, forever ❤️" one of Dion's followers added in the comments on her post.

"The true meaning of CLASSIC," another added.

Susan Sarandon, 79, Tears up and Gets Emotional Onstage in Spain

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 6:00am

Legendary actress Susan Sarandon got visibly emotional onstage this week while discussing an issue close to her heart.

Sarandon, 79, rose to stardom in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and earned acclaim for her roles in films such as Dead Man Walking and Thelma and Louise. She later became blockbuster material with hits like Stepmom, and is also widely known for her activist work. But the star's political activity has occasionally led her into hot water, and the actress spoke candidly about that conflict this week on the eve of the 40th Goya Awards ceremony at the Auditori Forum CCIB in Barcelona, where she's set to receive the International Goya in recognition of her career.

During the in-depth discussion with questions from the press, Sarandon became visibly emotional, holding back tears while discussing Gaza and praising Spain's support for the region.

"I know this is going to make me cry. In a place where you feel repression and censorship, to see Spain, and to see the President, and to see what he says and the support that he's giving about Gaza, and to have actors like Javier Bardem come forward with such a strong voice, is so important to us in the United States," said Sarandon, starting to cry.

Facing Consequences in Hollywood

Sarandon went on to say that as a result of her calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, she ultimately couldn't find work in Hollywood. Instead, she largely works with indie directors in Europe.

“I was fired by my agency, specifically for marching and speaking out about Gaza, for asking for a ceasefire,” Sarandon said. “It became impossible for me to even be on television. I don’t know lately if it’s changed. I couldn’t do any major film or anything connected with Hollywood."

Sarandon was fired from her agency, UTA, in 2023 after she made controversial comments at a pro-Palestine rally in New York City, Variety previously reported.

5,000 Readers Voted for the ‘Greatest Song of All Time’ — and the Comments Are Heated

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 5:26am

Nearly 5,000 Parade readers have weighed in on our “Greatest Song of All Time” poll, based on the top four songs ranked in a new music book, “The 100 Greatest Songs of All Time: Create Your Ultimate Playlist” by Carolyn McHugh.

After the book named John Lennon's "Imagine" the No. 1 greatest song of all time—followed by The Beatles' "Yesterday," Elvis Presley's "Can’t Help Falling in Love," and David Bowie's "Life on Mars?"—we asked readers whether they agreed with that top-tier ranking.

RELATED: 49 Years Ago Today, One of the ‘Greatest Albums of All Time’ Debuted on the Billboard 200

Here’s how the voting currently stands:

  • "Imagine" — 40%
  • Other — 26%
  • "Yesterday" — 19%
  • "Can’t Help Falling in Love" — 10%
  • "Life on Mars?" — 5%

Yes, "Imagine" is leading, but the comments show that plenty of readers aren’t ready to hand it the crown without a fight.

One of the most-liked responses made a different Beatles case entirely: "The #1 should have been 'In My Life' by the Beatles. Hands down, the very best song ever."

RELATED: 1991 Hit Ranked No. 1 ‘Greatest One-Hit Wonder’ of All Time

Others argued that “greatest” depends on influence, not just emotion. One reader said: "'Like a Rolling Stone': the fulcrum of the whole of Rock n Roll swung on this pivot. Before that it was boy-girl doo-wop. Rock went from adolescence to young adulthood, and this is the song that paved the way forward."

And not everyone was feeling the Lennon pick at all. Another commenter didn’t mince words with "'Imagine' is mawkish and hypocritical. 'Waterloo Sunset' by The Kinks."

Of course, a poll like this was always going to turn into a musical group chat with 5,000 people talking at once. Some readers went straight for the eternal rock staples, with one declaring: "'Stairway To Heaven.' Always and forever…'Stairway To Heaven,'" while another made the case for Elvis: "Given the talent that Elvis undoubtedly possessed, and the way he performed the song, I believe the song deserved the No.1 spot."

The real wildcard, though, is “Other,” which finished second overall with 26% of the vote, proving that no four-song shortlist could possibly contain everyone’s definition of greatness.

RELATED: 55 Years Ago Today, ‘Greatest Metal Album of All Time’ Hit the Billboard 200

Readers flooded the comments with passionate write-ins. Some went classic rock canon: "Stairway To Heaven," "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Free Bird," "Hotel California" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" all earned multiple mentions.

Bob Dylan supporters rallied behind "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Tangled Up in Blue," while Righteous Brothers fans championed the songs "Unchained Melody" and "Soul and Inspiration." Elvis devotees made strong cases for "Can’t Help Falling in Love" and other Presley staples, and Michael Jackson fans insisted "Billie Jean" belongs at the top.

A few readers reached deeper into the catalog, naming songs like "Limelight" by Rush, "Night Moves" by Bob Seger, "Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones, "Happy Jack" by The Who and even "Release Me" by Engelbert Humperdinck.

In other words, if there’s one thing nearly 5,000 votes have proven, it’s this: agreeing on the greatest song of all time might be harder than writing one.

How to Book a Private Excursion Without Missing Your Cruise, According To An Ex-Crew Member

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 5:10am

Cruises are a great way to make multiple types of people feel happy and satisfied with their vacation. If you want to focus on relaxation, you can definitely do that with amenities onboard or shore excursions that cater to that. If you’re a thrill seeker, many ships have large water slides and even rollercoasters to keep you entertained. Plus, there’s never a shortage of shore excursions that will give you a great sense of adventure. Many shore excursions marry the two, offering an aspect of adventure plus a moment of relaxation. Have you ever noticed, though, that the shore excursions offered by the cruise lines tend to be much more expensive than ones that are done privately?

Cruise lines get away with the hike in prices on their excursions for one simple reason: booking through them ensures that you won’t have any issues with getting back onboard the ship. If something happens on your excursion that causes you to be late for the all aboard time, the ship must hold in port until your group arrives back.

While I am an avid cruiser myself, I also worked as a performer on multiple cruise lines for many years. I was able to go on excursions through the cruise line for free, however sometimes I wanted to experience something that the cruise ship wasn’t offering for excursions. If that’s the case for you, I have a few tips that will allow you to book a private excursion without the risk of the ship leaving you in port.

Related: Don’t Skip This Embarkation Day Step, Says a Cruise Insider

View this post on Instagram Choose The Timing Of The Excursion Wisely

When you book your cruise, you will be able to see the exact times that the ship is scheduled to be in port. For most cruise lines, guests are expected to be onboard at least a half hour before the ship leaves. So, if the schedule says that the ship will be in port from 7am until 6pm, you will be expected to be back onboard by 5:30pm. Now, considering this, you should only look at private excursions that would not only fit within that time window, but also offer you extra time in the case that anything does cause a delay in time.

As a crew member, if you miss the cruise ship, the ship will not wait for you–and the same goes for passengers who have chosen to explore on their own. However, for crew members, you will be fired immediately from the job. With that as a threat hanging over my head, I made sure to never ever risk missing the ship.

I personally would only ever book private excursions that were scheduled to get me back to the ship at least two and a half hours before all aboard. This gave me a good amount of buffer room, so if there was any delay like traffic, or someone got injured on the excursion, the two and a half hours allowed for those possibilities to happen. It’s much better to be safe than sorry, and if that means your excursion is shorter than you wanted it to be, so be it.

Companies That I Trust To Book With Privately

I’ve traveled to over 40 countries on cruise ships, and have probably been on at least 30 private excursions over the years. There are a few companies that I have repeatedly booked with, mainly because they not only offered exciting excursions at a good price, but they also made me feel safe and looked after.

The first company is Get Your Guide, which is an app you can download on your phone. Here, you can book tons of different excursions, from large group options to private tours and everything in between. A similar company that I like is Viator, which offers similar tours to Get Your Guide. Both are widely used, and you will probably end up on excursions with other people from your cruise ship as well.

Another great option that I highly recommend is to book with the popular “hop on hop off” type of companies. Depending on which port you are in, there will be different companies that offer this. Most of the time, these tour buses park in front of the cruise terminal. When you get off the ship, you can easily go up and buy a ticket for the day. Then, the bus will take you around the port or city, allowing you to hop off or hop on whenever you please. In that case, it’s important to keep track of time, and stick to the two and a half hour window that I suggested to ensure that you make it back on time.

When cruising on a Mediterranean cruise, we were in port in Piraeus, which is the closest city to Athens, Greece. I did a hop on hop off bus excursion that day, and the bus took passengers from the port directly into the center of Athens. They provided a time table which showed when each bus would leave to go back to the port, and very conveniently, the buses left every 20 minutes or so. I enjoyed a day exploring all that Athens had to offer, and then two and a half hours before all aboard, I headed back on the bus to arrive safely to the ship on time.

What's the Deal With When We Were Young Fest? Everything We Know About the 2027 Lineup

Sat, 02/28/2026 - 1:13am

It's turbulent time for emo kids at heart, as When We Were Young Fest—the viral music festival inspired by waves of nostalgia for the emo, pop-punk, and rock bands of the '90s and 2000s, is taking a step back in only its fifth year.

The viral festival, which experienced explosive popularity from the beginning, announced this week, after sparking concern from fans with a lack of any information about plans for 2026, that it would taking "a pause" to "give this festival the care it deserves and to make sure what comes next feels just as special as what came before."

While the fan-favorite music festival promised a grand return next year, many fans aren't holding their breath for a big reunion come 2027.

"It’s the end, guys," one replied dramatically. "Music festivals don’t ever come back after skipping a year."

"That’s what firefly said in 2022 🤷🏻‍♀️," another countered, calling back to the music festival that has cancelled every year since it's 10th anniversary celebration.

"bye forever," someone else emphasized, as another mourned, "Another one bites the dust."

"Not the black background of death!" someone else quipped.

All fans can do, for now, is hope the festival stays true to its word and returns bigger and better than ever after some rest and recovery.

— When We Were Young (@WWWYFest) February 27, 2026 When Is When We Were Young Fest Scheduled For?

Currently, the emo-themed music festival is scheduled to return after a year-long hiatus in October 2027.

Who Will Play at When We Were Young Fest 2027?

There's no lineup yet, and likely won't be until much closer to showtime—if it all moves forward as currently planned—but fans can safely anticipate seeing many of their favorite '90s and early aughts throwback acts.

Panic! At The Disco, Blink-182, Weezer, The Offspring, Avril Lavigne, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Green Day and Paramore have all headlined over the years, with other well-known bands like Sum 41, All Time Low, Simple Plan, Yellowcard, Jimmy Eat World, The Used, and Dashboard Confessional all featured—not to mention lesser known but equally loved acts like Hey Monday, The Summer Set, Ice Nine Kills, Never Shout Never and Taylor Acorn.

Where Will When We Were Young Fest 2027 Be Held?

Ever since its inception in 2022, When We Were Young Fest has been staged at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The festival promised it would "return to Las Vegas in October 2027," but fans hope they might reconsider that location, with one hoping for a traveling act akin to Warped Tour, and many crossing their fingers for anywhere by Vegas, because "no one can afford that."

Where Can I Get Tickets for When We Were Young Fest 2027?

Tickets are not on sale for When We Were Young Fest 2027. In fact, the exact date, and whether or not the festival will be sticking with its new single weekend format, is yet to be announced.

When the time comes, tickets should be available directly from the festival's website.

Patricia Heaton Uncovers Her First Big Commercial and It's Filled With Future Stars: 'We Were Just Trying to Make a Living'

Fri, 02/27/2026 - 11:02pm

Patrica Heaton just uncovered a blast from the past—and realized there were a few future stars along for the ride.

The Everybody Loves Raymond actress, 67, took to social media on Friday (Feb. 27) to share a look at one of her earliest gigs—a commercial for Pabst Blue Ribbon that she says aired during the Olympics.

"Hey guys! I cannot wait to show you what I found, my very first gig in New York City, 1983. A Pabst Blue Ribbon beer commercial and it aired during the Olympics," Heaton revealed in the Instagram video.

She continued, "So I made a lot of money off it that I needed but guess what? The other people in the commercial: Jason Alexander, Seinfeld, and Polly Draper, Thirtysomething. And we were all just trying to make a living back in the day in New York City."

In the commercial, Heaton was working as a waitress at a bar while Alexander and Draper were patrons. Heaton even shared a sweet moment with Alexander.

"I was a waitress serving beer. I was moving through the bar with the cameras following me, just serving people — all happy, young people having a good time," Heaton previously told the Television Academy Foundation.

In the years after they wrapped filming on the commercial, Heaton, Alexander and Draper all individually landed their big breakthrough roles. Heaton and Draper even had the chance to work together again when Heaton guest starred on several episodes of Draper's ABC drama, Thirtysomething.

You can watch the entire commercial below.
