Meet Ethel Kennedy's 34 Grandchildren: Inside the Next Generation of the Family Dynasty

Thu, 03/05/2026 - 6:43am

When Ethel Kennedy died on October 10, 2024, the 96-year-old left behind a legacy that extends far beyond the history books: 34 beautiful grandchildren. While two of them passed before her death, their legacy lives on—and now, 32 cousins are carrying on the Kennedy name in everything from Hollywood to human rights.

The widow of Senator Robert F. "Bobby" Kennedy—who was assassinated in 1968 while running for president—Ethel spent 56 years raising their 11 children alone and watching the family tree grow in extraordinary ways. Her grandchildren span multiple generations and thrive in each of their respective careers, taking multiple approaches to the family's complicated legacy. Some lean into the spotlight, while others run from it entirely.

But one factor remains consistent for all 34 of Ethel's grandkids: They each grew up understanding that being a Kennedy means something—like public service, tragedy and resilience. It means cameras in your face when your world falls apart. And the "Kennedy curse" is more than just tabloid mythology. Two of Ethel's granddaughters—Maeve Fahey Kennedy McKean and Saoirse Róisín Kennedy Hill—died young in separate tragedies that rocked the family. Yet the family continues forward, with grandchildren in Congress, fighting for climate justice, making films and those who've deliberately chosen quiet, private lives away from the spotlight.

From Joe Kennedy III serving as U.S. Representative and later Special Envoy to Northern Ireland, to Conor Kennedy enlisting to fight in Ukraine (yes,Taylor Swift's ex!), to Michaela Kennedy-Cuomo speaking openly about mental health struggles, these figures represent the modern Kennedy family in all of its messy, impressive, heartbreaking complexity. Here's what you need to know about Ethel Kennedy's grandchildren and how the surviving cousins are shaping the family legacy for the 21st century.

How Many Grandchildren Did Ethel Kennedy Have?

The family statement announcing Ethel's death—shared by her grandson Joe Kennedy III— noted that she left behind "nine children, 34 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom love her dearly." That's a lot of people gathering for Thanksgiving!

Ethel had 11 children with Bobby Kennedy—nine of whom are alive today—and 10 of them had children of their own. Her son Michael who died in 1997 had children, while David—who passed in 1984—did not.

Her grandchildren range widely in age: Meaghan Anne Kennedy Townsend was born in 1977 and is now in her late 40s—making her the oldest—while Anthony Boru Kennedy (son of Douglas Kennedy) was born in 2012 and is currently a teenager.

Joe Kennedy III—The Next-Gen Congressman

If you're going to talk about Ethel Kennedy's politically active grandchildren, you start with Joe Kennedy III. Born October 4, 1980 (yes, he has a twin brother, Matthew Rauch Kennedy), Joe is the grandson who most visibly stepped into the family's political legacy.

After graduating from Stanford University and Harvard Law School, Joe served in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic from 2004-2006, then worked as an assistant district attorney in Massachusetts before running for Congress. He served as U.S. Representative for Massachusetts' 4th congressional district from 2013 to 2021, building a legislative record focused on healthcare, civil rights and economic justice.

In 2020, he made the bold decision to challenge incumbent Senator Ed Markey in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. Despite being a Kennedy in Massachusetts—historically a guaranteed win—Joe lost decisively, with Markey backed by progressive rising stars like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. It was a generational showdown that the younger Kennedy didn't win.

But he landed on his feet. In December 2022, President Biden appointed Joe as U.S. Special Envoy to Northern Ireland for Economic Affairs, focusing on peace and prosperity in the region. He's currently President of Citizens Energy, a renewable energy nonprofit, and founder of Groundwork Project, which supports community organizing in under-resourced regions. He's married to Lauren Birchfield Kennedy (they met in Elizabeth Warren's class at Harvard Law) and they have two children.

Joe was also the one who announced his grandmother Ethel's death on social media, writing the family statement that touched millions. The political torch has officially been passed, but whether he runs for office again remains to be seen.

Matthew Rauch Kennedy—The Twin Who Chose Business

Matthew Rauch Kennedy is Joe's fraternal twin brother. He was born eight minutes earlier, which he jokes was "the greatest eight minutes of my life." However, Matthew chose a different path from his Congressman sibling. After studying business at Stanford and Harvard, Matthew worked in various government roles during the Obama administration— including positions at the White House and the Departments of Commerce and Treasury.

He later founded an international business development consulting firm and became a partner at InfraLinx Capital, leaving politics altogether. A former classmate described the dynamic: "Joe keeps things on track. Matt makes sure Joe has fun." Matthew is married to Katherine Lee Manning—a public relations director—and they have two daughters: Lily Frances Kennedy and Charlotte Ethel Kennedy.

Conor Kennedy—From Taylor Swift's Boyfriend to Ukraine Volunteer

Conor Richardson Kennedy—born July 25, 1994—is perhaps best known to the general public for two things: He briefly dated Taylor Swift in 2012 and a decade later, he volunteered to fight in Ukraine.

Let's address the Swift scenario first. Their summer romance may have been brief, but it was highly publicized. While the relationship reportedly ended in October 2012, many speculated that she wrote songs about him—including "Begin Again"—on her album Red, which was released on Oct. 22, 2012. Conor—who attended Harvard and Georgetown Law—has mostly stayed out of the pop culture spotlight ever since.

But a decade later—in October 2022—he took to Instagram and revealed that he'd secretly enlisted in Ukraine's International Legion to fight against Russia. "Like many people, I was deeply moved by what I saw happening in Ukraine over the past year," he wrote. "I wanted to help. When I heard about Ukraine's International Legion, I knew I was going, and I went to the embassy to enlist the next day."

Despite admittedly having no military experience—"I wasn't a great shot, but I could carry heavy things and learned fast," he said—Conor was sent to the northeastern front. "I was also willing to die there," he added. His time in Ukraine wasn't long, but he described it as scary and meaningful—and urged others to help through the legion, border assistance or medical supplies.

Conor is now a Los Angeles-based attorney on the Zantac cancer litigation team at Wisner Baum and in 2024, he got engaged to Brazilian singer Giulia Be.

Kick Kennedy—The Environmental Advocate

Kathleen Alexandra "Kick" Kennedy—born April 13, 1988—is the daughter of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and was named after her great-aunt Kathleen "Kick" Kennedy Cavendish (JFK's sister). She's an actress and environmental advocate who's stayed active in climate and conservation causes. Kick has worked on various film and TV projects while maintaining her commitment to environmental issues, following in her father's footsteps as an environmental lawyer (though RFK Jr.'s anti-vaccine activism and political moves have reportedly divided the family). She represents the next generation of Kennedys trying to balance Hollywood aspirations with the family's activist DNA.

Michaela Kennedy-Cuomo—The Mental Health Champion

Born August 26, 1997, Michaela Andrea Kennedy-Cuomo is the daughter of Kerry Kennedy and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. She's spoken openly about her own struggles with anxiety and depression, emerging as a powerful voice for mental health advocacy.

Michaela has used her platform to destigmatize mental health issues and encourage others to seek help. In a family that's experienced so much public tragedy, her willingness to be vulnerable about mental health feels particularly significant.

Bobby Kennedy III—The Filmmaker Who Rejected Politics

Robert F. Kennedy III—born September 2, 1984—deliberately chose Hollywood over Washington.

"People that, I feel at least, get into politics too early before they've had a chance to express themselves and kind of be free and do what they want to do, end up being the most corrupt politicians,” he told HuffPost in 2011

Instead, he followed his passion for screenwriting and directing. His film credits include Eurotrapped (which he wrote and starred in), ELEW: Live from Infinity (his directorial debut), and Fear and Loathing in Aspen (2021) about journalist Hunter S. Thompson. Bobby has been married to former CIA officer Amaryllis Fox since 2018 and they have two children.

The Tragic Losses: Two Grandchildren Who Died Young In 2020, Maeve Fahey Kennedy McKean (in pink) and son Gideon (pictured at right) passed in a tragic boating incident on the Chesapeake Bay.

Photo by Mike Pont on Getty Images

Maeve Fahey Kennedy McKean (1979-2020)

Before her tragic death at 40, Maeve Kennedy McKean was arguably one of Ethel's most accomplished grandchildren. The daughter of former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Maeve was a human rights attorney and public health expert who served as Executive Director of Georgetown University's Global Health Initiative.

She'd previously been a Peace Corps volunteer in Mozambique, Africa and worked in the Obama administration as Senior Advisor for Human Rights in the State Department's global AIDS program. She was brilliant, dedicated and deeply committed to making the world better—exactly what you'd expect from a Kennedy granddaughter.

On April 2, 2020—during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic—Maeve and her 8-year-old son Gideon Joseph Kennedy McKean were playing at her mother's waterfront home in Maryland, and went into the Chesapeake Bay in a canoe to retrieve a kickball that had blown into the water. Strong winds swept them out into the bay. Despite massive search efforts, both bodies were recovered days later. The deaths were ruled accidental drownings.

Maeve left behind her husband David McKean and two other children—Gabriella (7 at the time) and Toby (2 at the time). The family held a virtual memorial service with thousands of mourners—a heartbreaking moment in a year already filled with so much grief. The loss of both Maeve and Gideon shook the Kennedy family to its core.

Saoirse Róisín Kennedy Hill (1997-2019)

Born on May 22, 1997, Saoirse Róisín Kennedy Hill was the daughter of Courtney Kennedy Hill and the only child in that branch of the family. She was just 22 years old when she died at the Hyannis Port Kennedy compound in 2019.

Her death was ruled an accidental overdose, and it prompted her family to speak publicly about mental health, addiction and the importance of seeking help.

In a statement posted by the family, Ethel said, "The world is a little less beautiful today. She lit up our lives with her love, her peals of laughter and her generous spirit."

Saoirse had shown remarkable courage, writing about her own struggles in a high school op-ed. Her death was a devastating reminder that privilege and legacy don't protect people from pain.

1986 Chart-Topper Ranked ‘Classic Rock’s Worst Lyrics’ of All Time

Thu, 03/05/2026 - 6:39am

In 1986, a certain hair band was reeling from a massive shakeup.

Following the messy departure of frontman David Lee Roth and the massive success of their sixth studio album, 1984, Van Halen had a lot to prove in what would become their new era.

Kicking back hard with “Why Can’t This Be Love,” the band debuted their new sound and lead singer, Sammy Hagar, and saw their lead single off their seventh studio album, 5150, go straight to the top.

Peaking at No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Cashbox Top 100, the smash hit cracked top-10’s all over the world, including in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, and Canada. Still, despite enduring widespread love for the tune, it gave a certain classic rock authority a “funny feeling.”

In Ultimate Classic Rock’s latest rankings list, titled “Classic Rock’s 20 Worst Lyrics,” Van Halen’s “Why Can’t This Be Love” is dropped … at the top. The specific lyric the outlet calls out is, “Only time will tell if we stand the test of time.” They follow it up with the quip, “This might have been better written … with more time.”

Rounding out the top three are Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" ("Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit") and Yes' "Roundabout" ("Mountains come out of the sky – and they stand there").

A buoyant electro-rock jam akin to 1984’s biggest hits, “Jump” and “I’ll Wait,” "Why Can't This Be Love" marked a significant new era for the group – one that would elevate the keyboard and vocals, turn down the guitar and harder rock, and penetrate the airwaves with heartfelt and more sentimental lyrics.

A group effort, the song had Eddie Van Halen laying the track on an Oberheim OB-8 keyboard, with Hagar following his melody with vocals. “You don't mind if I follow your keyboard melody do you?” Hagar asks, per Song Facts. “"No, not at all,” Eddie replies. In the end, the hit song about unrequited love that isn’t necessarily reciprocated was born.

In 1996, Hagar left the band, but returned for the Best of Both Worlds Tour in 2004. He joined bassist Michael Anthony in 2007 to perform “Why Can’t This Be Love” to celebrate the band’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In 2023, Hagar even joined The Killers onstage for a rendition of the hit, per SPIN.

During a visit to The Howard Stern Show in April 2023, Hagar again played the song. “This was the first Van Hagar song you ever heard,” he says, prepping to play. “It went straight to No. 1. The album was our first No. 1 alubm.”

Reflecting on the first time Van Halen played the song live for record producer Mo Ostin and his entourage, Hagar says, “They walked in the studio and we played this song for them, live, and [Mo] put his finger up and he said, ‘I smell money.’”

The song definitely earned the boys some dough. And no matter if one list didn’t care for the lyrics, there are plentyothers that herald Van Halen’ssofter side a triumph that will never lose its edge.

‘Happy Days’ Was Actually a Spinoff of This Forgotten Early '70s TV Series

Thu, 03/05/2026 - 6:37am

Happy Days spawned some of the ’70s’ most memorable television spin-offs, yet many fans don’t know it was a spin-off itself, coming from a once-popular but now-forgotten early ’70s series.

According to The Saturday Evening Post, Happy Days hailed from a segment featured on the anthology series Love, American Style. The segment, titled "Love and the Television Set" was originally an unsold pilot by the series's producer, Garry Marshall, and it aired in 1972.

Love, American Style was an anthology comedy series from the late 1960s and early 1970s that told humorous and romantic stories about love, relationships, and dating. Each episode featured multiple standalone vignettes with different characters and actors.

One year after the segment aired, in 1973, George Lucas' film about coming-of-age teenagers in the 1950s, American Graffiti, hit theaters. The film starred Ron Howard, Harrison Ford, Mackenzie Phillips, Paul Le Mat, Richard Dreyfuss, Charles Martin Smith, Cindy Williams, Candy Clark, Bo Hopkins, and Suzanne Somers.

The film's success pushed ABC to greenlight Happy Days as a television series. Joining the series from the original Love, American Style segment were Howard, Anson Williams, and Marion Ross. Added to the cast were Erin Moran, Henry Winkler, Donny Most, and Tom Bosley.

There was also another major character on Happy Days, Chuck Cunningham, who mysteriously disappeared after season one. The older brother of Richie and Joanie was first played by Gavan O’Herlihy, later replaced by Randolph Roberts.

In an ironic twist, the show that was itself a spin-off went on to launch several successful series. Happy Days would be a jump-off point for the series' Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, Joanie Loves Chachi, Blansky's Beauties, and Out of the Blue.

Love, American Style pioneered the 'mini soap opera" format that was later used by television producer Aaron Spelling on The Love Boat, according to The Television Academy Interviews. Happy Days aired for a decade on the same network from 1974 through 1984.

For any self-respecting “Disney Adult,” a visit to one of the theme parks annual award-winning food and wine festivals is a necessary pilgrimage. From the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival at Disneyland to Epcot’s long-running International Food & Wine Festival, the parks are a bounty of delicious eats, boozy sips and enthralling entertainment. But Disney’s best food festival is actually not in a theme park. And this underrated event is a must for any bucket list.

Now in its 17th year, the annual Swan and Dolphin Food & Wine Classic is a bona fide extravaganza offering four hours of unlimited gourmet foods and drinks. The event will be held Nov. 20 and 21 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, just steps from Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. Unlike Disney’s other food festivals, where visitors pay a la carte for eats as they meander from one outdoor kitchen to the next, this is hosted street party style under the balmy Florida sky and palm trees—and it’s all you care to enjoy.

The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, Walt Disney World’s greatest hotel hidden gems, are culinary meccas with acclaimed food and beverage programs across its 23 restaurants and lounges. Impressively, the resort features 30 certified wine sommeliers and a selection of over 1,000 wines. And the annual festival is a culmination of those gastronomic pursuits.

A Group of HGTV Stars Just Took the Dreamiest Vacation Together, and We're So Jealous

Thu, 03/05/2026 - 6:05am

One of the most unexpectedly delightful parts of following HGTV stars on social is seeing how they interact when the cameras aren't rolling. On-screen, they're pros—measuring twice, cutting once, delivering perfectly timed design reveals. But off-camera? That's where the real fun is.

You’ll see someone like Jasmine Roth pop into another host's comments with a string of supportive emojis, or Taniya Nayak hyping up a friend's new project like the proudest coworker ever. It feels less like industry networking and more like a genuinely tight-knit friend group that just happens to renovate homes for a living.

SIGN UP for the Dengarden / Parade Home & Garden newsletter for a weekly dose of our favorite house hacks, decor trends and shopping deals

So it shouldn't come as a surprise that five of your HGTV favorites took it upon themselves to vacation together recently. The quintet of design gurus headed to the Bahamas for some much-needed fun in the sun.

Nayak, who you probably know best from Battle on the Beach, among other series, was joined by pals Alison Victoria, Scott McGillivray, Sarah Bauemler and Bryan Bauemler at the stunning Caerula Mar Club. Yep, that's the very same resort the Bauemlers purchased and renovated on their own HGTV series Renovation Island.

View this post on Instagram

"Looking through over 1200 photos from our shared albums from the most perfect little getaway with some of my most favorite people," Nayak wrote in the caption to her Instagram post. "I did my best to pick just a few but every minute of each day just managed to get better and better."

For the record, she did manage to whittle it down to just 19 photos and videos (good job!). It also happened to be Nayak's birthday during the getaway, which just made the whole thing even more special.

What Fans Are Saying

The comments section of Nayak's post lit up with HGTV fans who were as excited to see this gang of friends hanging out together as I personally was. And one lucky person was actually at Caerula Mar at the very same time as these pals.

"And you greeted me at the resort my first day," they wrote. "It was so great to meet you all and see you together as friends."

Another person chimed in with an excellent idea.

"I feel like we need some sort of HGTV show with all of you together," they suggested.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Now let's see where this friend group travels together next. Road trip, anyone?

This Oscar-Winning 1976 Love Song Reached No. 1 on the Charts 49 Years Ago

Thu, 03/05/2026 - 6:00am

Nearly five decades ago, one of Hollywood’s most iconic love themes climbed to the top of the charts.

On March 5, 1977, the “Love Theme From A Star Is Born (also known as “Evergreen”) reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed for three consecutive weeks.

The song was written for the 1976 remake of A Star Is Born, which starred Barbra Streisand opposite Kris Kristofferson. Though the film itself was released in 1976, “Evergreen” steadily gained momentum before ultimately claiming the top spot the following year. The movie became a major box office success, as well as Streisand, who executive produced the project at the height of her fame. By then, she had already won an Oscar and starred in other massive hits like “The Way We Were.”

“Evergreen” was co-written by Streisand and songwriter Paul Williams, who is known for writing hits for The Carpenters and Three Dog Night. Because the songs for the film were performed on camera, they had to be completed before production began.

According to Williams, Streisand already had the melody and a verse when he joined the project. “She sat down and played on a guitar, the melody for 'Evergreen' that she'd written. It was just such a beautiful melody. I said, 'There's your love song. There's the big love song,'” Williams revealed to Songfacts in 2007.

Williams revealed that he left the lyrics for last, completing other songs for the film’s shoot schedule first. He even adjusted the opening lines at the last minute, telling Streisand to flip them for better phrasing: “Love, soft as an easy chair, love, fresh as the morning air.” He joked that they might be “laughed out of the theaters for starting a love song with a line about a chair,” but history proved otherwise.

The song went on to achieve what Williams called the “triple crown”: winning the Academy Award, Grammy, and Golden Globe for Best Original Song. It also helped propel the A Star Is Born soundtrack to become one of the biggest-selling albums of its time.

The movie was first brought to the big screen in 1937 starring Janet Gaynor and Frederic March, then remade in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason. Streisand’s 1976 version reimagined the fading male lead as a troubled rock star. Decades later, the story returned once more in 2018, this time with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, introducing the original track “Shallow,” which also went on to hit No. 100 on the charts in 2019.

Walmart’s Pretty Solar Lights Start at Just $12, and They're the Whimsical Upgrade Your Patio Needs

Thu, 03/05/2026 - 5:28am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

As the spring season arrives, it’s the perfect time to refresh your outdoor spaces with small touches that bring a little bit of magic after sunset. With whimsical designs like dragonflies, fireflies, and sunflowers, nature-inspired lighting is a simple patio upgrade that can make outdoor evenings feel incredibly enchanting. Walmart has some of the prettiest solar-powered outdoor lights right now, including garden lights, pathway stakes, and hanging lanterns, starting at just $12.

Solar lights are a smart choice for outdoor spaces because they're powered by the sunlight they harness during the day, requiring no wiring or outlets to create a soft glow. They're energy-efficient, low-maintenance, and add instant charm to enhance your evenings.

These gorgeous solar light options at Walmart are waterproof and durable, so you won't have to worry about the rain or heat ruining them. They're ideal for creating a beautiful ambiance that makes your patio, porch, backyard, deck, balcony, or garden feel more inviting after dark.

Bring delicate whimsy to any patio or porch with a beautiful solar lantern design. Now just $14, the Qoosea Hanging Solar Lantern is marked down from the usual $16 price in both the sunflower and dragonfly designs.

What makes this solar lantern stand out is the pretty, fairy-tale-like pattern options — either blossoming sunflowers in a variety of sizes or dozens of dragonflies that appear to be chasing one another through the shadows. The intricate detailing catches the light beautifully, creating a soft, warm glow. Built-in panels harness the sun’s energy during the day, and each lantern will turn on automatically at dusk.

Made of durable, weather-resistant metal, it has a hook for easy hanging from trees, shepherd's hooks, or pergolas, making it versatile for gardens, entryways, or outdoor seating areas. It would also look beautiful placed on the ground or a tabletop. "They look absolutely gorgeous in the way they light up across the sidewalk and yard," one shopper said.

Rirool Decorative Solar Stake Lights, $18 (was $40) at Walmart

For a subtle yet captivating glow, this two-pack of stake lights is currently on sale for $18, 55% off from its usual $40 price. With a design that mimics the twinkling of fireflies, each stake is topped with a warm-white globe that brings a dreamy feel wherever it's placed. Stainless steel stakes make it quick and easy to add these lights along pathways, garden beds, or patio borders.

Though the LED light is warm and not harsh, shoppers were impressed by the brightness of these globes. "They add a soft, magical glow that really pulls a garden together, especially at night," one shared. The same reviewer noted that they still look decorative in the daylight, but at night, "they create that warm, firefly-style sparkle that makes everything feel intentional and cozy."

Shoppers were not only impressed by the look of these decorative sunflower lights, but by their usefulness. One reviewer who placed two near the steps to their doorway said the flowers "give just enough light in a dark area that I don't trip." Iconic '70s Singer's No. 1 Best-Selling Debut Ranked Among 'Greatest Yacht Rock Albums' of All Time

Thu, 03/05/2026 - 5:25am

In a delightful twist of musical destiny, Bobby Caldwell’s self-titled 1978 debut album has been crowned one of the greatest yacht rock albums of all time.

The epic project, which included the record that introduced the world to his silky blue-eyed soul groove anthem, “What You Won’t Do for Love,” was pulled into the 8th spot by BBC Music Magazine in a new genre-defining ranking.

Released in 1978 and later reissued under the title What You Won’t Do for Love, Caldwell’s first LP was grounded in lush R&B and smooth jazz—a sound that, over the decades, has become foundational to what fans affectionately call yacht rock. The debut album became the No. 1 best-selling release of his career.

Although the album didn’t dominate charts in quite the same way as some of its peers, its influence has only grown over time. The lead single, “What You Won’t Do for Love,” climbed into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of those rare, timeless tracks that effortlessly crosses generations, formats, and playlists; it’s been covered and sampled by everyone from Michael Bolton to Tupac Shakur.

The complete lineup's top spot went to Michael McDonald’s If That’s What It Takes—a quintessential yacht rock album—but including Caldwell’s work among the top ten reaffirms his influence on the sound’s evolution.

Caldwell died on March 14, 2023, at age 71, following long-term health complications.

1983 Classic Hit No. 1 43 Years Ago Today—And Changed Pop Forever

Thu, 03/05/2026 - 5:18am

Few songs in pop history arrive with the kind of instant recognition that “Billie Jean” commands.

Forty-three years ago today, on March 5, 1983, Michael Jackson’s sleek, suspenseful single from Thriller climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it would stay for seven weeks, cementing its place as one of the defining records of the decade.

RELATED: 1973 Classic That Defined a Generation Was a No. 1 Hit 53 Years Ago

By that point, Jackson was already on a remarkable streak. His 1979 album Off the Wall had produced four Top 10 hits, including “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough” and “Rock With You.” But Thriller would take his career to an entirely different level.

“Billie Jean,” the album’s second single, was the moment the world realized something extraordinary was happening.

The Tense Story Behind 'Billie Jean'

Unlike many pop hits of the era, “Billie Jean” isn’t a love song.

Instead, it tells the unsettling story of a woman who claims the narrator fathered her child, a premise that Jackson said was inspired by the kind of accusations and obsessive attention his family encountered during the Jackson 5 years.

The tension in that story is reflected in the music itself. Built around a minimal drum groove and one of the most recognizable basslines ever recorded, the track feels almost cinematic, slowly tightening as Jackson’s vocal performance grows more urgent.

It’s a rare pop record that manages to feel both danceable and suspenseful at the same time.

A No. 1 Hit During the Height of the 'Thriller' Era

When “Billie Jean” reached the top of the Hot 100 in March 1983, it became the first of two chart-topping singles from Thriller, followed shortly afterward by “Beat It.”

The album would eventually produce seven Top 10 hits, an extraordinary run that helped turn Thriller into the best-selling album in music history.

At the same time, Jackson was dominating year-end charts. In 1983, he placed multiple songs in the year-end Top 10, a feat achieved by very few artists before him.

The Performance That Changed Pop Culture

While the song was already a smash on radio, it was Jackson’s performance of “Billie Jean” on the television special Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever that truly cemented its legend.

During the performance, Jackson debuted the moonwalk, a dance move that instantly became synonymous with his image. For millions of viewers watching at home, it was one of those moments where a star transforms into something bigger than a star.

Pop culture would never quite look the same afterward.

How 'Billie Jean' Helped Reshape MTV

The song’s impact extended beyond radio and television performances.

The music video for “Billie Jean” became one of the most influential clips of the early MTV era, helping cement Jackson’s reputation as a visual innovator and pushing music videos into the center of pop promotion. Combined with the later cinematic video for Thriller, Jackson redefined what audiences expected from a pop artist.

More than four decades later, “Billie Jean” remains one of the most recognizable songs ever recorded. Part of that longevity comes from its restraint. The production is sparse, leaving space for the groove and Jackson’s voice to carry the song.

RELATED: 1973 Classic Was a No. 1 Hit 52 Years Ago Today

And then there’s that bassline. Simple, hypnotic and slightly ominous, it’s the musical equivalent of footsteps in the dark, instantly setting the mood from the very first seconds.

By the time “Billie Jean” finished its seven-week run at No. 1 in 1983, Michael Jackson wasn’t just the biggest star in music.

He was something rarer.

An artist whose music, performances and visual style were reshaping the entire pop landscape in real time. And more than 40 years later, the opening beat of “Billie Jean” is still one of the most iconic intros in music history.

This Iconic Disneyland Resort Restaurant Just Got a Massive Glow-Up—And Reservations Are Vanishing

Thu, 03/05/2026 - 5:15am

There are endless reasons to visit Disneyland; maybe it’s for the perfect photo in front of sun-drenched Sleeping Beauty Castle or a thrilling ride on Space Mountain. But for many of us it’s all about the food.

Sure, a Mickey pretzel is both reliably delicious (and adorable) but the mouse has a few culinary tricks up its sleeve. And for visitors with a discerning palate, they know to head to Napa Rose, Disneyland’s culinary crown jewel and the resort’s first true fine-dining establishment.

A Southern California institution, the award-winning signature restaurant, located within Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, has reopened after an extensive $30 million makeover. It's a magical return with a reimagined dining experience that “builds upon its 25-year legacy of California wine country cuisine with global influences” (Disney Parks Blog).

The concept is led by Chef Andrew Sutton, who has been with Napa Rose since its opening in 2001, and Executive Chef Clint Chin. Its wine collection, helmed by wine director Patrick Kirchen, continues to impress, housing more than 13,000 bottles solidifying its place as one of the most extensive wine programs in the region.

Napa Rose offers a variety of dining experiences, from casual a la carte eats at the bar and lounge to a seasonal prix fixe menu in its main dining room. For the ultimate splurge, there’s a Chef’s Counter and updated private dining options.

A new menu focused on seasonality and “broader international perspective” features standouts like a handmade sorpresine pasta with Dungeness crab and Santa Barbara uni butter, American wagyu N.Y. with grape funnel mustardo and a Nantes carrot cake cremeux. Longtime visitors will recognize familiar staples, like the Laughing Tiger (available in the lounge), a reimagining of the fan-favorite smiling tiger salad, and its signature mushroom cappuccino bisque.

Related: Disneyland is Dropping Its Most Frustrating Rule—And Fans Are Calling It a Total Gamechanger

And a whole lot of pixie dust went into this glow-up. Restaurant goers will spot a shiny new, sophisticated look, led by Walt Disney Imagineering’s Katrina Mosher, taking inspiration from California’s Arts and Crafts tradition and honoring Napa Valley (Think: luxurious mountain lodge with warm, inviting feel). Its showstopper is a chandelier with a branch-and-vine design and hanging glass-like grapes modeled after the historic Mission Vine.

The culinary journey begins at an eye-catching new bar. Featuring cozy seating areas and new fireplaces, the menu dishes small bites and craft cocktails in an intimate setting. Here, you'll also discover a newly renovated outdoor patio. Main dining exudes elegance with modern, albeit timeless Craftsman architecture. For a bit more of a laid-back feel, its expanded terrace embodies that classic California wine country al fresco dining feel. With space for just 18 guests, the Chef’s Counter is a front row seat to its interactive, open-exhibition kitchen where the chefs personalize each course of your meal, tapping into creativity and seasonal abundance.

Reservations are now open and highly suggested. Walk-ins are welcome at the bar and lounge.

According to astrologers, certain birth months help shape individuals who experience the world in a more profound and nuanced way. Emotion plays a significant role in all of our identities, but four birth months are particularly known for creating individuals with exceptional emotional depth. This depth doesn't always manifest in dramatic ways; sometimes it appears as thoughtful silence, unwavering loyalty, or the courage to care deeply in a guarded world. In these four birth months, this emotional depth quietly influences every aspect of life.

Thu, 03/05/2026 - 5:01am

Jimmy John's is refreshing its menu with three new Greek-inspired options.

The "freaky fast" sandwich chain prides itself on quickly serving stacked subs with fresh, tasty ingredients—some so trendy it makes fans scratch their heads before selling it out (let us not forget the company did offer Pickle Subs not once, but twice, and reinvented the pizza with its Toasted Pizza Sandwiches).

Its latest update is certainly a little more tame than some of the innovations fans saw this past fall, but it's still totally in line with Jimmy John's efforts to give fans bolder menu items.

This time around, the brand is borrowing from what it calls "quintessential" Greek recipes to offer two tangy new sandwiches and a side salad that it said will transform boring lunch breaks into a bliss-filled Mediterranean escape.

Jimmy John's Adds 2 Greek-Inspired Sandwiches and a New Salad to Menus

Joining Jimmy John's menu this spring are an all-new Greek Gyro Sandwich, Chicken Gyro Sandwich, and Greek Cucumber Salad.

According to an official description shared with Parade, the new Greek Gyro is all about sticking to tradition—the Jimmy John's way. It's loaded with seasoned gyro meat (comprised of a "savory blend" of beef and lamb) and layered with crisp lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and onion, before being finished with "cool, creamy" tzatziki sauce.

Its new Chicken Gyro offers a similar "bright, fresh flavor" with its recipe of seasoned chicken, crisp veggies, and a "generous spread of tangy tzatziki."

Rounding out the lineup is the Greek Cucumber Salad, a crisp and refreshing mix of cucumbers, tzatziki, sliced pickles, and onions that brings bright Greek flavor to every bite and makes the perfect complement to either Gyro sandwich.

To celebrate the new Greek-inspired menu items, Jimmy John's tapped actor and "former Greek Life icon" Jimmy Tatro for a special promotion highlighting the menu. In the ad spot, Tatro, who has retired from his mid-2000s frat star persona, tries the new Gyros from Jimmy John’s and is suddenly catapulted back to some of his old ways.

Jimmy John's new Greek-inspired menu is currently available at locations nationwide, joining its regular lineup of everyday faves like its Spicy East Coast Italian Sandwich, Billy Club, Italian Night Club, Club Tuna, Beach Club and Jimmy Cubano—but only for a limited time.

William Shatner, 94, 'Excited' For New Heavy Metal Album Release

Thu, 03/05/2026 - 5:00am

At 94 years old, William Shatner is turning up the volume.

The Star Trek legend is preparing to release a heavy metal album, and according to a source who spoke to Closer on Wednesday, March 4, he’s more energized than ever as he approaches his 95th birthday.

“William is so excited to show people what he can do musically,” the source said. “Ever since he was a little kid, he wanted to play the guitar, but only in his later years did he actually make the time to really take lessons and properly learn.”

What started as a lifelong dream has become a full-fledged passion for the Star Trek alum. The source added that playing guitar is now “one of his biggest passions” and that he’s “finally ready to get in the studio.”

The upcoming record will reportedly feature mostly covers and could feature a surprise or two. “As of now, he hasn’t announced any special guest stars, but he’s William Shatner,” the insider stated to the outlet. “Everyone in the industry loves and respects him, so it’s hard to imagine he’s not going to have people calling him up now that he’s announced his plans publicly.”

Shatner himself confirmed on February 19 that the heavy metal project is in the works at Cleopatra Records. The album—which does not yet have a title or release date—will pair him with 35 handpicked metal artists and include covers of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest, along with some original material.

“Metal has always been a place where imagination gets loud,” Shatner said in a statement. “This album is a gathering of forces—each artist bringing their fire, their precision, their chaos. I chose them because they have something to say, and because metal demands honesty.”

Inspired by his collaboration with the supergroup Nuclear Messiah, Shatner said, “When Nuclear Messiah came to life, something clicked. It wasn’t just a track—it was a doorway.” The actor has a spoken word track on the group’s upcoming album, Black Flame.

If there’s one thing the famous Captain Kirk has proven, it’s that exploration never really ends.

There's no need to count up all the hours that you're sitting at your desk all day, because we all know it's a lot. However, there is a need to own comfortable seating that you can sit long hours in — one with significant back support and cushioning. Luckily, Amazon is selling furniture with both of those attributes, and at a significant discount. The Neo Chair Office Desk Chair is 40% off right now for a limited time.

The chair initially cost customers $82, but has been reduced to as low as $50 in the black colorway. The other four available hues — beige, grey, ivory, and pink — are all on sale, but marked at a slightly higher price of $54. The chair is 22 inches long, 23.5 inches wide, and 40 inches tall, so make sure to measure your desk height before purchasing to ensure that it fits swimmingly underneath.

The chair features a 360-degree swivel that promotes smooth and free movement. You can customize the seat height and tilt to cater to your comfort. There's a contoured backrest that aids in proper posture and stability, with an elastic mesh on the back that allows for breathability (so you don't overheat after long periods and have additional support). It's a classic desk chair design, so there are smooth-gliding wheels for a balanced base.

One of our favorite parts of this chair is that it has padded arms that flip up, so you can squeeze the chair under desks or tables to save space — which is especially helpful when you live in a smaller apartment. This chair is marked as Amazon's Choice and has 225 five-star ratings. Shoppers cited the "sleek" chair as "very comfortable," "really cute," and "convenient" for everyday use with "incredible" lumbar support.

‘80s Rock Legend Sebastian Bach Shares First Photo as New Twisted Sister Frontman: ‘I Am in Shock’

Thu, 03/05/2026 - 4:41am

Sebastian Bach is still in shock over the announcement that he will replace Dee Snider as the frontman for Twisted Sister on the band’s upcoming 50th anniversary reunion tour.

On March 4, the former Skid Row frontman took to Instagram to share a photo of himself at the Ditch Records store in British Columbia as he held both a Twisted Sister vinyl and a Skid Row vinyl during a pitstop on his The Party Never Ends Tour.

“Here is the first ever photo of me as the new lead singer of TWISTED SISTER 🤩 holding both my bands in my hand here 😄what a feeling! I am in shock!” Bach, 57, captioned the photo.

“I am the Lead Singer of Twisted Sister🤘,” the rocker continued. “I keep saying that over and over to myself and anybody else who will listen today 🤩I am absolutely honored and overjoyed to pay tribute to the legacy of some of my favorite music and musicians of my whole life!"

Bach noted that he had a long phone call with Snider before the news “hit the planet.”

“We were both kind of emotional on the phone,” the singer revealed. “I know I was a little bit teary-eyed because I have nothing but respect for Dee and I have always been a fan and a friend of Dee @justsuzette and his wonderful family. We have agreed to do six shows this year together and I am really looking forward to this. None of the shows of my solo band are being canceled or moved. I am going to be one busy mother trucker that is for sure, but I am used to it!”

Bach thanked Twisted Sister veterans Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda for welcoming him into the legendary band.

The "18 and Life" rocker also took to Facebook to share a photo of himself in front of the Twisted Sister logo. “WE ARE TWISTED! F---ING! SISTER!!!!” he captioned the photo.

Bach’s post came one month after plans for a Twisted Sister reunion tour were canceled due to Snider’s ongoing health issues, and just hours after a message was posted on Twisted Sister’s social media announcing that the Skid Row alum would front the band for a handful of select dates this fall.

The rocker has long been vocal about his love for Twisted Sister. During an appearance on the reality series Breaking Band in 2016, Bach even chose the Twisted Sister song, “I Wanna Rock,” to play with heavy metal rockers Santa Cruz. In an interview with Showbiz Junkies, Bach was asked why he chose the Twisted Sister song.

“Lyrically, you can cite brilliant words in the history of music, like John Lennon, ‘Imagine all the people living life in peace.’ I put Twisted Sister ‘I wanna rock’ right up there,” Bach explained. “You wanna know why? Because I want to rock. This says everything I need to say. I wanna rock. Do you wanna rock? It’s a simple sentiment that means oh so much. I wanna rock. I really do.”

Bach also performed Twisted Sister's song "We're Not Gonna Take It" alongside Snider during Criss Angel's HELP (Heal Every Life Possible) charity event in Las Vegas in 2016.

Of his new role as the frontman of the band he worshipped in the ‘80s, Bach wrote on Instagram, “It’s a long way from me painting the TS logo on the back of my jean jacket in high school in liquid paper to fronting the band 🤯. Thank you, Twisted Sister, for this awesome opportunity.”

Universal Studios Just Dropped Final Details For Its Most Ambitious Coaster Yet

Thu, 03/05/2026 - 4:35am

Are you ready, family?

Universal Studios Hollywood is approaching the finish line with its first-ever high-speed outdoor roller coaster themed to one of the biggest blockbuster franchises ever. Opening this summer, “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” is a first-of-its-kind coaster reaching speeds of up to 72 mph and featuring groundbreaking 360-degree rotation technology. Universal is not new to the thrill arena but this will be its most ambitious project yet, joining the park’s other pioneering attractions.

And now the Los Angeles theme park has revealed full details on this dynamic coaster’s ride vehicles.

Three unique ride vehicles will join the previously announced Dodge Charger, a symbol of the franchise and a nod to Vin Diesel’s character Dominic "Dom" Toretto. Joining the Dodge Charge, each are modeled after the cars driven by fan-favorite Fast & Furious characters and are meant to evoke “the energy and thrill of the films’ street racing for themselves,” Universal shared in a press release.

Considered the “ultimate American muscle car,” the 1970 Dodge Charger features a sleek black frame and “souped-up” 900-horsepower. According to Universal, the Mazda RX-7 is “inspired by the 1997 model car driven by Han Seoul-oh. Featuring 19-inch wheels, racing seats, upgraded suspension and custom interior detailing, the Mazda RX-7 is considered one of the most iconic cars in the Fast & Furious film franchise.”

Joining them is a 2022 blue Nissan Skyline GT-R inspired by Brian O’Conner’s vehicle and known for its unique appearance thanks to styling modifications. And finally, the Toyota Supra is inspired by Brian O’Conner’s orange 1994 car and features the legendary 2JZ-GTE twin-turbo inline-six engine.

When thrill seekers approach the loading station, they will find an original freehand, spray-painted mural created by world-renowned artist Tristan Eaton. This large-scale art piece will depict the final street racing scene from the original film as the Dodge Charger and Toyota Supra vehicles are in an epic racing battle with a speeding train.

“Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” opens this summer at Universal Studios Hollywood and will “pay homage to the franchise’s suspenseful and meticulous choreography created for the edge-of-your-seat driving sequences.” Riders can anticipate a unique on-board experience with innovative design that mimics the sensation of drifting cars as they journey through 4,100 feet of aerial track.

Come 2027, a Fast & Furious Coaster is also coming to Universal Orlando Resort
