‘The Pitt’ Fan Favorite Taylor Dearden, Daughter of Bryan Cranston, Opens up About Her ADHD Journey

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 3:07pm

The Pitt star Taylor Dearden has been making waves on the acclaimed medical series, and the actress, whose father is Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston, is opening up about her own journey with ADHD.

The actress, 33, who got her start with a small role on her father’s notorious series, went on to appear on the MTV series Sweet/Vicious and the Netflix series American Vandal. But it’s her role as the sweet second-year resident Dr. Melissa King, opposite Noah Wyle on TV’s hottest medical series, The Pitt, that has kicked Dearden’s star power into high gear. But in a series of new interviews, Dearden has opened up about her lifelong journey through ADHD and how she's taking that into play when it comes to navigating the experience of her character.

Who Does Taylor Dearden Play on The Pitt?

Dearden’s Pitt character, Dr. Mel King, is a fan favorite on the series. Like her character, Dearden is also neurodivergent. However, unlike Dearden, King has not yet been diagnosed.

On a panel back in December, Dearden explained that her character on the show has not been diagnosed with ADHD. Dearden thinks the doctor has likely been affected by her sister having autism.

“If you have a sibling who’s more severely on a spectrum, the parents often don't even notice that their other child is," Dearden said, PEOPLE reported. "That’s kind of always how I saw it. With a lot of Mel, it’s just kind of unmasking and seeing what that looks like, and then also being like, ‘Wow, I’m kind of glad I mask sometimes.’ “

When Was Taylor Dearden Diagnosed With ADHD?

In speaking about her character's experience, Dearden hasn't shied away from opening up about her own ADHD journey. She recently spoke with Harper’s Bazaar and shared how she came to learn she had ADHD.

“I was really young. My second-grade teacher said to my parents, ‘She can’t finish a test. Something’s up here.’ Usually, girls get diagnosed with ADHD later in life, but luckily, I was a little hyperactive. Because of that, I presented more like a boy, and I was able to get diagnosed earlier,” Dearden shared, noting that a significant amount of progress has been made in the study of ADHD even in the last five years.

In the PEOPLE piece, Dearden noted that one of her tips for dealing with some of her challenges is giving herself advice.

“I’m on the ADHD spectrum so I gave myself advice in the mirror,” she noted.

Country Joe McDonald Said One Moment ‘Ruined’ His Career in Final Interview Before Death

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 2:53pm

Iconic musician Country Joe McDonald has died at the age of 84, and fans are looking back at some of the most iconic moments of his career. In what appears to be his last interview, done less than a year before his death, McDonald talked about what he believes "ruined" his career.

McDonald's last interview appears to be the one released on July 21, 2025, for Mark Hummel's Harmonica Party. During a portion of the interview, they talked about one of the things that became legendary with McDonald, which was the "F*** Cheer."

The cheer was officially referred to as the "Fish Cheer," but his insertion of the expletive in place of "Fish" stuck with him. In his interview with Hummel, he suggested, "I have to accept the fact that the F*** cheer really ruined my career."

McDonald acknowledged that people loved the cheer and he admitted, "I guess I'm kind of responsible."

The musician revealed that his team actually trademarked the cheer once it became so popular and iconic, although, of course, they couldn't trademark the expletive itself. The two men joked about how McDonald should be getting royalties whenever the expletive is used.

Apparently, Gershon (Gary) "Chicken" Hersh, who was the original drummer for McDonald's group, Country Joe and the Fish, was the one who initially came up with the idea to change the fish cheer to the explicit version that became so popular. McDonald recalled that they did it for the first time during a performance in Central Park.

Ultimately, the musician claimed, the explicit version of the cheer apparently got McDonald banned from doing The Ed Sullivan Show.

McDonald talked about some of the passion projects he did over the years, referencing music about World War I, and the music he created honoring his idol, Woody Guthrie. He also mentioned the work he did honoring Florence Nightingale and the songs he wrote about the Vietnam war.

"I was kind of disappointed that I never got an opportunity to do something like that on a theatrical level," McDonald admitted.

Despite his regret over not having some of the more mainstream performance opportunities he may have desired, McDonald's long career is fondly remembered as fans mourn his death.

'80s Pop Sensation Debbie Gibson Sends Important Message From Hospital Bed

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 2:40pm

Debbie Gibson is 37 years past Electric Youth, and now, it's really important for her and others her age to stay on top of preventive care.

That's the message the iconic '80s singer wanted to share when she hit record from a hospital bed with a message for her fans.

With her hand placed dramatically against her forehead with a hospital bracelet on display, Gibson told the camera, "Post anesthesia colonoscopy, this is your friendly reminder to go get yours."

"Right, girls?" Gibson motioned to the two women in scrubs behind her as they smiled and waived to the camera.

In her caption, the "Foolish Beat" singer wrote, "Just another glamorous weekend in Las Vegas !!! 😜 Peace of mind ✔️🧘🏼‍♀️"

Then, she shared why she was sitting in a hospital bed, writing, "I’m not above posting in a hospital gown and fluorescent lighting this morning to tell you that procedures like this are a must if you’re of the age or are genetically predisposed or have any symptoms or a gut feeling… trust it. Trust your docs. Get all the check ups. Seemingly all is a ok. And in any case , best to have the facts as awareness about one’s health is power ⭐️"

Gibson admitted to "kicking some health related things down the road" before she elaborated, sharing, "My dogs and I made a party of it last night 😜 It’s not fun. But, this is my second colonoscopy in 10 years and I’m of the belief this is the mac daddy test in its realm. There’s others… and everyone should do what they feel."

The 55-year-old pop star admitted she "made space this year for a health and wellness reset" and she was hoping that by sharing her own preventive care journey, she would inspire others to stop putting off their own preventive care and get checked.

Gibson stays busy performing at various shows, including nostalgia-based performances like her anniversary of "Lost in Your Eyes" and the promotion of her memoir, Eternally Electric on the talk show circuit.

Gibson also has several concerts scheduled for later in 2026, but despite staying busy promoting her work, the singer and author is making sure to put her health first and to remind others that they should do the same.

Amy Adams, 51, and Her Adorable Teen Daughter Aviana Are the Coolest Pair at Paris Fashion Week

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 2:37pm

Amy Adams is a legend of film, but she's most dedicated to her role as a mother.

The actress, 51, earned cult status for her film debut in the dark pageant comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous, followed by an outstanding performance in the film Junebug. In the years that followed, Adams has turned herself into one of Hollywood's most in-demand stars, with roles in films like The Master, The Fighter, and American Hustle. She even took her talents to the TV screen with a groundbreaking portrayal of an alcoholic reporter searching for the truth in HBO's Sharp Objects.

While Adams continues to be an acclaimed star, she took a break from acting to join her daughter, 15-year-old Aviana Oleo Le Gallo, at Paris Fashion Week to enjoy the Lacoste show. The teen, whose dad is Darren Le Gallo, smiled alongside her stunning mother at the show.

What Has Amy Adams Said About Parenting?

Adams has spoken candidly about her early years as a parent. In 2024, she told PEOPLE that when Aviana was a baby, she was struggling particularly hard. In the midst of filming The Muppets and promoting The Fighter, she wasn't getting any sleep.

“I wasn’t sleeping because I was up with her at night,” she told the publication. “I was tired, but also I felt so different. I know the world didn’t see me differently. But I felt it very internally that something had shifted.”

As a result, Adams felt like she was “watching it all sort of fall apart because I wasn’t communicating what I really needed…Just burning the candle at both ends until you can only do that for so long, and doing what I call closet crying. You never want anybody to see you cry, so I would cry in the closet, which just paints such a sad picture, but I don’t think I’m alone in that.”

Luckily, she and her husband were able to figure out a plan to work on their schedule.

Would Amy Adams Allow Aviana to Go into Acting?

Thus far, Aviana has shown "no interest" in taking up her mother's trade, Adams shared during a December 2024 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark. But if that's what she decides to pursue someday, Adams says she would support it.

"If it feeds her soul and she loves it, I’m here for it," Adams said. "But so far, she has no interest."

No matter what Aviana chooses to go into, she has plenty of inspiration around her. Amy's own mother raised seven children while being an amateur bodybuilder!

2016 Thrill Ride Named ‘Best Episode in TV History’ Is Also the Most Disturbingly Real

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 2:30pm

TV history is stacked with unforgettable moments. From massive shockers and shattering finales, to powerful pilots and series ending jaw-droppers, everyone has that one episode they call The Best of all Time

View this post on Instagram

Over on Rolling Stone, Breaking Bad’s “Ozymandias” (season five, episode 14) takes the crown. IMDb ratings have Six Feet Under’s “Everyone’s Waiting” (season five, episode 12) at the top, while The Ringer has Lost's “The Contstant” (season four, episode five) at No 1.

If you ask us, it’s hard to beat “Ozymandias,” but Friday Night Lights’ electric pilot, The Sopranos jaw-dropping series finale, I Love Lucy’s chocolaty “Job Switching,” Atlanta’s masterpiece “Three Slaps,” and Evil’s “7 Swans a Singin’” are all worthy of the conversation. And that’s before we even get to The Office, Dawson’s Creek, Heartstopper, or The Leftovers. There's so much to love.

For all-things-entertainment site MovieWeb, the definitive response to the debate is simple. And it might just surprise you. Forgoing the usual suspects, the outlet plucks its “best episode in TV history” from one of Netflix’s most buzzed-about series, Black Mirror.

A techno-horror anthology series with the power to turn digital anxiety up to an 11, Black Mirror is a gift from Charlie Brooker, who shared with NPR in 2016 his inspiration behind the show and its many thought-provoking plot lines.

“I’m just thinking of what strikes me as a fairly delicious what-if idea. And then if there's some technological means by which I can see that event happening, I'll sort of latch onto that if that makes sense,” he said, before sharing that he’s “quite a paranoid and worried person.” All of which comes through clear as a bell in his dystopian sci-fi series.

The episode MovieWeb shouts as the best not just of the series but in television history is season three, episode three, “Shut Up and Dance.” Starring Alex Lawther from Andor, the thrill ride unfolds via main man Kenny, a scrawny and meek little fella forced into digital blackmail after his webcam is hacked and he’s recorded performing an, ahem, private act while looking at nudie pics online.

View this post on Instagram

Over the next 52 minutes, Kenny teams up with fellow sinner Hector, played by Jerome Flynn from Games of Thrones, and the two carry out one dangerous and illegal act after another at the whim of unknown vigilantes on the other end of a demanding text message chain.

The episode, released Oct. 21, 2026, ends with a plot twist that forces the viewer to rethink everything they’ve just watched. MovieWeb explains, “The most powerful part of ‘Shut Up and Dance's’ plot twist is that it happens at the very last minute. Most shows and movies use their plot twist at the start of the final act, then use the final act to pick up the pieces. But Black Mirror saves it until the very last moment. Then, when the bombshell has been dropped, the credits roll, and we're left with a sinking feeling in our chest that never quite goes away.”

It’s true. We can vouch. With Radiohead's "Exit Music (For a Film)" playing and the “Director James Watkins” credit popping up over a black screen, we’re left speechless.

In an interview with Thrillist, Brooker said, "That was very deliberate. We thought, Let's do one that we thought is not in any way science-fiction. Like, we'll just do one that could literally happen right now. It's completely contemporary, there's nothing impossible that happens in there. Nothing magical. Nothing farfetched."

There are a ton of Black Mirror episodes that achieve similar stunned emotions upon their conclusions, but none really like “Shut Up and Dance.” Lacking the series' signature comedic relief and distinctly sci-fi edge, “Shut Up and Dance” feels more like a darker, abbreviated movie akin to Henry Joost and Ariel Schuman’s Nerve or Phil Alden Robinson’s ’90s classic, Sneakers.

In the end, “Shut Up and Dance” proves we don't need a ton of fancy camerawork to completely shatter audiences. Just a good story, some seedy online behavior, and the brutal realization that the fictional narrative we’re watching could easily be a reality.

So, best in TV history, or just really good TV? We'll shut up and leave that to the viewer.

This 1 Arm Workout Could Be Your Best Bone Density Hack Yet

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 2:25pm

"Bone density" is something you'll start hearing more about as you age—and for good reason. However, it may not have been something your doctors or even personal trainers talked to you about in your 20s and 30s.

"Bone density or bone mineral density is a measure of the strength and integrity of your bones, specifically their mineral content, primarily calcium and phosphorus," explains Stephen Sheehan, a certified personal trainer with Garage Gym Reviews. "Higher bone mineral density is associated with stronger bones that are more resistant to fractures; lower bone mineral density is associated with weaker bones that are more susceptible to fractures."

Part of the reason you may not have heard about bone density in your 20s and 30s is that those are the decades of life in which it peaks. Sheehan says bone density naturally starts to decline after your early 30s, so it's crucial to be mindful of bone density in early and middle adulthood.

"Without intervention, bone density loss occurs at a rate of about 1% per year," he states. "The good news is that bones are a living tissue, and that tissue responds to the demand you place on it."

A key intervention is strength training, which doesn't just help with muscles.

"When you lift weights, your muscles pull on your bones through tendons, and that mechanical stress actually signals the bone to rebuild itself stronger," saysDenise Chakoian, a certified fitness trainer and owner of Core Cycle and Fitness LaGree. "Your body is pretty good at adapting to whatever you throw at it....through cells called osteoblasts, which lay down new bone tissue in response to that loading, essentially increasing density over time."

For these reasons, trainers say there's one arm workout that could be your best bone density hack yet. Read on to find out what it is.

This 1 Arm Workout Could Be Your Best Bone Density Hack Yet

OR Images/Getty Images

Chakoian and Sheehan share that adding pushups to your arm day can improve bone density over time—and you won't even need to invest in equipment to take their advice.

"Pushups can help with bone density in the upper body because they require those bones to endure and adapt to stressors, like the load of your bodyweight, that are more significant than the loads they are exposed to daily," Sheehan says.

Chakoian also urges people to consider doing pushups to support bone density. "Every time you lower yourself down and push back up, your muscles are pulling hard on the bones they're attached to," she explains. "That tension is actually what triggers your bones to remodel and get denser."

Chakoian says that your body has cells called osteoblasts. "Osteoblasts....detect mechanical stress and respond by laying down new bone tissue," she reports. "Basically, it's your skeleton's way of saying, 'OK, we need to get stronger for this.'"

She notes that your chest, shoulders and arms all get the memo (AKA loading signal) repeatedly. "Over time, this translates to real structural changes in the bone, not just the muscle. It's the same principle behind why astronauts lose bone mass in zero gravity—bones need to be challenged and loaded to stay strong, and pushups are a simple, effective way to do exactly that."

Sheehan adds that it's also worth pointing out that pushups are a "closed-chain, compound exercise." "Your hands stay planted while your body moves, and multiple joints extend and flex during the movement," he says. "Compared to isolated, open-chain exercises like triceps kickbacks, closed-chain movements tend to generate greater joint and bone loading."

How To Do a Pushup for Bone Density

Sheehan explains there are a few ways to do a pushup.

To do a standard pushup:

  1. Start in a high plank with your hands just outside shoulder width apart.
  2. Stack your shoulders over your wrists, and keep your body in a straight line.
  3. Brace your core and squeeze your glutes.
  4. Lower your chest toward the floor, with your elbows at about 30 to 45 degrees from your body.
  5. Press the floor away and return to the top position.

If you're "not there yet," Sheehan says you can modify a standard pushup by trying:

  • Wall pushups. Stand a few feet from a wall and push against it.
  • Incline pushups. Place your hands on a bench, box, or counter.
  • Knee pushups. Do a standard pushup with your knees on the floor.

"These still load the bones, but with less total force than a standard pushup," he says. "They can all be a good place to start."

He adds that you may be ready for an extra challenge if you can already do multiple sets of 10 standard pushups. He suggests trying:

  • Tempo pushups. Lower your body for 3 to 5 seconds and/or pause in the bottom position. You're increasing the loading time.
  • Plyometric pushup: Press up hard, taking your hands off the ground or clapping them together (increasing rate of force applied)
  • Decline pushups. Elevate your feet to alter your angle of fore, increasing the total load applied.
  • Weighted pushups. Add a vest or plate to boost your total external load.

"Because bones adapt to increasing demands, it’s important to continue progressing," Sheehan explains.

Mistakes To Avoid When Doing Pushups

It's crucial to perform pushups correctly to reduce the risk of injury and get the most benefit from them. Chakoian says to avoid:

  • Letting your hips sag. Instead, Chakoian says to squeeze your glutes and brace your core before you even start the movement.
  • Flaringyour elbows out wide. This mistake puts strain on the shoulders. She instructs you to keep your shoulders at around a 45-degree angle from your body.
  • Going too fast and bouncing at the bottom. "It robs you of the muscle and bone stimulus you're after, so slow it down and actually feel the chest stretch at the bottom," she says.
  • People forget to breathe properly. Yes, there's a "best" way to breathe during pushups. "Exhale on the way up, inhale on the way down, and it'll make the whole thing feel more controlled and sustainable," Chakoian advises.

Related: Exactly How Many Pushups To Do Each Week To Tone Your Arms

How Many Pushups To Do per Week for Bone Density

There's no precise number of pushups to do each week to build bone density. It's highly personal. "If you're just starting, even three sets of 5 to 10 pushups a few times a week is enough to start giving your bones a stimulus," Chakoian says. "Over the next few weeks, aim to gradually add reps or sets, getting to something like three sets of 20 to 30, 3 to 4 times a week, is a solid target for most people."

If pushups start feeling easy, it's probably time to level up. "The key is progressive overload, meaning you keep making it slightly harder over time, because your bones adapt just like your muscles do and need continued challenge to keep responding," Chakoian says.

Sheehan suggests starting with three sets of five wall pushups and progressing once you can perform each phase easily. Those phases are:

  • 3 sets of 10 wall pushups
  • 3 sets of 5 reps of incline pushups on a weight bench
  • 3 sets of 10 reps of incline pushups
  • 3 sets of 5 reps of knee pushups
  • 3 sets of 10 knee pushups

"And so forth until you can do 3 sets of 10 standard pushups," Sheehan shares. "From there, you can continue progressing your volume of standard pushups or use other progression options."

Is It OK for Kids To Say 'Mogging'? Child Psychologists Weigh In

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 2:10pm

If you’ve landed on this page, your child or grandchild probably said a weird word you've never heard before in your life, and maybe it's a little alarming (it is funny-sounding, that's for sure). You're looking to find out what the term "mogging" means; you understandably want answers, specifically whether or not they should be using that word or associating with other children who do.

Not everything on social media is scary or out to mess your kids up. But there are still quite a few things parents and grandparents should be wary of about the internet, including slang and new terms. So it's understandable that you want some understanding of what the heck "mogging" means, and if you should be worried.

Well, we've got you covered; Parade chatted with a handful of psychologists who work with children and teens for their insights regarding the psychological implications of children using this word (or being on the receiving end of it). They also share how parents should respond if they notice their kids using the term "mogging." Plus, we touch on what it actually means and how it gained popularity over the years, both in person and on the internet.

What Is ‘Mogging’?

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, "mog” means “to look or perform better than someone else” or "to outclass." With this in mind, "mogging" refers to the act of looking or performing better than another.

What Does ‘Mogging’ Mean in Slang?

Again, when referring to the slang meaning of "mogging," the Merriam-Webster dictionary notes that it's a "humorous internet slang term" that was meant for a specific type of person.

"It was originally used to praise one man as being taller, more muscular, or more stereotypically handsome in direct comparison to another man," the site said.

Urban Dictionary notes the word “mog” can mean a few things. It can mean “appearing to be larger in stature than another individual." And in weight-lifting terms, “mogging” can also mean “when you get a nasty pump and out-angel another person, making them look little compared to you.”

To put it simply, this word essentially means to show up others in a room.

It is known as a Gen Alpha slang word, but older teens and Gen Zers also use this lingo.

History of 'Mogging'

Mogging is a relatively new development that has become popularized with the increased use of social media. Merriam-Webster notes this word started to gain traction in 2016 within the AMOG (Alpha Male of Group) internet subculture—otherwise known as the manosphere—promoting misogynist and extremist principles praising muscular and tall men, pitting them against shorter and smaller men while deeming them inferior.

Is 'Mogging' an Insult?

While mogging isn’t always necessarily an insult, it can be depending on the intent, context and tone in which the word is said. The word can also be insulting to the receiver if they are unaware of the context in which the word is being used, what is meant by it and whether or not the individual who says it is doing so intentionally to make them feel bad about themselves (specifically, their body).

Furthermore, Dr. Janet Yarboi, PhD, a licensed clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Rush University System for Health, notes that “[the word mogging] may be less harmful when used playfully among close friends who feel secure and safe with one another.” That said, she advises that children steer clear of using language or humor that undermines or degrades others.

Related: 11 Phrases Child Psychologists Say Can Secretly Harm a Child’s Confidence

Does the Term ‘Mogging’ Positively or Negatively Impact Kids?

Our experts agree that the term "mogging" generally has more negative impacts than it does positive ones. While Dr. Alice Connors-Kellgren, PhD—the Director of Psychology at Tufts Medical Center—notes that there is no current scientific evidence to demonstrate the impacts of this specific word on children, she explains that there are still negative implications. The unfavorable impacts of the term and the act of mogging can be explained through the lens of comparison and how children compare themselves to others. Dr. Yarboi adds that this word can potentially lead to competition amongst kids or teens and their peers.

One of the main ways in which "mogging" negatively impacts kids and teens is its focus on the body and, in turn, one’s self-esteem

“This can erode one’s self-esteem, increase social insecurity, cause someone to be anxious or depressed, decrease the likelihood of developing strong and supportive relationships with individuals based on inner qualities like kindness, compassion, loyalty and shared prosocial values,” shares Dr. Joseph Laino, PsyD, a psychologist and the Assistant Director at Sunset Terrace Family Health Center at NYU Langone.

Dr. Yarboi adds that the consequence of repeatedly hearing this word can potentially lead children to develop disordered eating or body dysmorphia if they are not tall or muscular to measure up to the perpetuated ideals (or in this case, desired physical aesthetic).

It is important to note, though, that kids and teens may have different experiences with the word and its impacts.

“Developmentally speaking, adolescents are generally more aware of social hierarchy and status,” explains Dr. Yarboi. “Teenagers also consume and contribute more to the online subcultures that create terms like 'mogging,' placing them at greater risk to experience the full psychological impact of the term. In comparison, younger children may not fully understand all of the layers of the term when hearing or using it.”

That said, Dr. Jennifer Dragonette, PsyD, a psychologist and clinical services instructor at Newport Healthcare, points out that some kids will tend to continue using the word, especially if their peers validate their claim by laughing or joining in. She adds that if this word and its associated messages are repeatedly said and heard by a child, they might feel inadequate and potentially develop anxiety and withdraw from social situations.

How Should Parents Respond to Their Kids or Teens Using ‘Mogging’?

If you’ve heard your child or teen say "mogging," there are several steps you can take. While it might be tempting to become frustrated and bombard your child with many stern, disapproving questions, our experts note that it is best practice to remain calm and relaxed when opening the discussion about the word.

“Curiosity tends to get parents much further with their children than punishment,” Dr. Yarboi suggests. “Ask them about what the word means to them and their friends and how it feels saying it and being on the receiving end of it.”

Dr. Connors-Kellgren shares that you want to ensure your child is not feeling judged when you’re questioning them about the word. You also don’t want to make the initial impression of it being a big deal.

“That may contribute to your teen being defensive or not being willing to talk at all,” adds Dr. Laino.

He also notes that if you notice that your teen has been negatively impacted by the word—either by becoming fixated on their appearance or having it all from a materialistic standpoint—it can be important to step in.

“This is also a suitable time to remind our teens [that] while it is natural to use slang terms like 'mogging,' people are not necessarily 'better' or 'worse' because they do not possess certain physical attributes or material possessions,” he states.

If you notice that your child or teen has increased the frequency with which they say the word due to their social media consumption, whether it be on TikTok or Instagram (or whatever their preferred social media app is), you can opt to use parental control settings on the apps or talk with your child about blocking certain creators promoting this word and other harmful rhetoric.

Beloved '50s Singer, With Iconic One-Hit Wonder, Turns 83

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 2:01pm

Beloved holiday singer Gayla Peevey is celebrating her 83rd birthday.

The Oklahoma-born performer became a household name in the early 1950s thanks to her charming novelty song "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas," which remains one of the most recognizable Christmas tunes of the era.

Peevey recorded the playful holiday track in 1953 when she was just 10 years old. Written by songwriter John Rox, the song tells the story of a child who insists that the only gift she wants for Christmas is a hippopotamus.

The quirky tune quickly became a hit during the holiday season, thanks in part to its humorous lyrics and Peevey's energetic performance. The song also inspired a promotional campaign in her hometown of Oklahoma City, where local residents raised money to donate a real hippopotamus to the Oklahoma City Zoo.

"The record was released, and it was a big hit," Peevey said in a 2025 interview. "So it was played everywhere, and it was all over the radio and everything. The director of the zoo had this big idea. A light bulb went off, and he said, 'Let's just get Gayla a hippopotamus."

"So they created a campaign fundraiser called 'Gayla Peevey Hippo Fund,' and the kids sent in their nickels and dimes, and by Christmas, they were able to actually purchase Matilda. She was flown in on Christmas Eve morning, and I got to greet her, and then of course, the zoo was able to house my hippo."

Mathilda became a local attraction and helped cement the song’s place in Christmas pop culture history.

Although Peevey's recording career was relatively brief, "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" endured long after its initial release. Over the decades, the song has become a perennial holiday favorite, appearing on countless Christmas playlists and seasonal radio rotations.

The track's enduring popularity has also introduced Peevey to new generations of listeners who discover the cheerful novelty song each December.

More than 70 years after it was first recorded, the playful holiday classic continues to bring smiles to listeners, making Gayla Peevey’s one-hit wonder one of the most charming Christmas songs ever recorded.

Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves Seem to Confirm Past Feud—and Tease a Collab

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 1:55pm

Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves may have feuded in the past, but it looks like they’ve moved on—just in time for Musgraves’ upcoming album.

Over the past week, fans have spotted billboards popping up that appear to tease Musgraves’ sixth studio album, though the project has not yet been formally announced.

The Golden Hour singer added fuel to the fire on Friday, Mar. 6, posting a clip of Lambert's speech at the 2013 CMA Awards to her Instagram Story.

In the clip, Lambert accepted the award for Female Vocalist of the Year, a category Musgraves was also nominated in. Earlier that night, Kacey won the CMA Award for New Artist of the Year.

During her speech, Lambert congratulated Musgraves on her win, saying, “Kacey, congratulations on New Artist, that was awesome.” The camera then panned to Musgraves, who appeared less than pleased by the comment.

Musgraves reposted the old viral clip to her Instagram Story, writing "You knew I’d said some things about you" along with an eye-rolling emoji.

Lambert then reposted to her story, adding, “Well I’ve done my fair share of s--t talkin’ too.”

With the exchange on social media—and Lambert following Musgraves on Instagram shortly after—fans began speculating that the captions in their stories could be lyrics from a potential collaboration on the new album.

Kacey Musgraves revisits her viral reaction at the 2013 CMA Awards via Instagram Stories:

Their rumored feud is often traced back to the song “Mama’s Broken Heart,” which was released as the fourth single from Lambert’s Four the Record album in 2013.

The track was written by Musgraves alongside Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. According to long-standing rumors, Lambert was eager to record the song, while Musgraves was initially reluctant to give it up because she believed it had potential to be a hit.

It's been speculated that Lambert asked Musgraves for the song during her wedding to Blake Shelton—either at the reception or the rehearsal dinner—and that Musgraves ultimately agreed, as Lambert was the bigger artist at the time. Neither woman has ever corroborated the story.

The Savannah Bananas Are Worth $500 Million—Here's How They Conquered Baseball

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 1:46pm

Even diehard baseball fans will admit a game can drag: Three hours in and the score is only 2-1? That’s a big reason the Savannah Bananas have exploded in popularity. The professional exhibition team has turned America’s ordinarily sluggish pastime into a fast-paced spectacle.

Their version of the sport, Banana Ball, keeps things moving—the rules forbid traditional walks and mound visits, for example—and downtime is strategically filled with choreographed dances, comedy bits and crowd participation. The Bananas are often referred to as the “Harlem Globetrotters of baseball,” but there’s at least one major difference between the troupes: Banana games aren’t scripted; the competition is real.

Keep reading to learn more about the Savannah Bananas, including how they got started, what the team gets paid and more.

Are the Savannah Bananas real players?

Yes! The Savannah Bananas are competitive players who run, pitch, catch, slide and swing like any other baseball players, only they also entertain the crowd by dancing, backflipping, walking on stilts and more.

Why are the Savannah Bananas such a big deal?

Blame it on shorter attention spans if you must, but the Bananas built a fanbase by making baseball, which traditionally moves at a glacial pace, into a quick-moving, high-energy sport that combines athleticism and showmanship. Their on-field antics are tailor-made for TikTok and Instagram, where clips of behind-the-back catches and mid-inning dance numbers rack up millions of views.

In fact, according to Forbes, the Bananas have a bigger social footprint than any MLB franchise, with more than 21 million followers across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube.

Who started the Savannah Bananas?

The Savannah Bananas were co-founded by husband-and-wife duo Jesse and Emily Cole in 2016, but the grain of the idea actually  came nearly 10 years prior, when Jesse—a college pitcher who initially went into coaching—was sitting in a dugout, bored to tears. “I remember vividly being in the dugout and saying, ‘I wish the game was fun for everyone, and not just the people playing the game,’” he told Acquired.

He went on to become the General Manager of a college summer league, the Gastonia Grizzlies, in North Carolina, by age 23, but the team couldn’t pull a crowd. So he started reading books about P.T. Barnum, Walt Disney and the WWE for inspiration on how to put on an irresistible show. “I just said, ‘Let’s go crazy,’” he recalled.

After a decade spent “experimenting” with the team, he and his then fiancé, Emily (who had been the “director of fun” with the Grizzlies), jumped at the chance to lease Grayson Stadium in Savannah, Ga., after its minor league team left for South Carolina.

The idea was to bring sports-u-tainment to Savannah, but locals saw the newly installed college summer baseball team as a downgrade from the minor leagues (which, technically, it was). “We had a launch event where we gave out free food, free alcohol … about a hundred people showed up,” Jesse recalled. “It was so bad, how we started.”

By January 2016, he and Emily were out of money. They sold their house back in North Carolina, rented a roach-infested “dump” in Savannah, and beared down on a strategy. “We need to name the team something completely different and wild to get attention,” Jesse remembered saying.

They had a “name the team” contest, during which a 62-year-old nurse suggested Bananas, and a spark went off.

“We started thinking of everything,” he said. A senior citizen dance team called The Banana Nanas, a male cheerleading team called the Man-Nanas, a Mascot named Split.

And so the Savannah Bananas were born.

For the first couple of years, the team continued to play traditional baseball, just with fun shenanigans in the mix. Then in 2018, they added exhibition games using Banana Ball rules only. Finally, in 2022, they retired their collegiate amateur team and took their Banana Ball show on the road as a barnstorming team.

These days, you can easily spot Jesse at a game: He’s the man in the yellow tuxedo and top hat.

What are the rules of Banana Ball?

Banana Ball is a reimagining of traditional baseball with rules like:

  • Every inning is worth one point.
  • Games have a strict two-hour time limit.
  • No bunting or mound visits.
  • No traditional walks (ball four becomes an immediate run to first with a chase).
  • If a fan catches a foul ball, it’s an out.
  • Batters can steal first base.
  • Special tiebreaker showdowns decide tied games.
Do the Savannah Bananas get paid to play baseball?

Yes, the players are professionals who work for money. Unlike in their early years as a collegiate summer team, today the Bananas play year-round in their own touring league and therefore earn year-long contracts. How much those contracts are worth is unknown, but according to a 2025 article published in Forbes, players make two, sometimes three, times more than what minor leaguers typically make while playing almost 100 fewer games. To put that into perspective, the minimum annual salary for a minor leaguer in Triple-A—the highest level in the minors—is around $40,000 for a 150-game season.

“Obviously we’re not on big league contracts,” Bananas shortstop Ryan Cox told Forbes, “but they’re taking care of us better than any minor league guys.”

Who is on the Savannah Bananas?

The Bananas’ roster changes each season, but some key names include athletes like Jackson Olson, Ty Jackson and the towering Dakota “Stilts” Albritton, who really does play on stilts. You’ll also find a mix of college standouts and viral social media stars. Check out the current Savannah Bananas lineup.

Who do the Savannah Bananas play against?

The Bananas don’t play in MLB, they tour the country playing against other teams in their own Banana Ball league. Opponents include teams like the Party Animals, Firefighters and Texas Tailgaters (all owned and operated by Cole).

Is Banana Ball scripted?

No. While the entertainment is planned and choreographed, the baseball outcomes themselves are not predetermined. That’s part of the fun!

How can I buy tickets to a Savannah Bananas game?

Tickets start at $35 when purchased directly through the team’s site, but the 2026 season sold out almost immediately in October 2025. You can still find tickets for sale on third-party sites like StubHub and Ticketmaster, but they’re marked up quite a bit.

What are the Savannah Bananas worth?

According to Forbes, the Bananas are now worth half a billion dollars. That's a whole bunch of money.

Denise Austin just jumped on a viral social media trend that has her fans in their feelings.

Right now, seemingly everyone is sharing their best throwback photos with a message that asks, "Mom, what were you like in the 90s?" To make the trend even more fun, it's set to Goo Goo Dolls' biggest hit, "Iris."

In Austin's case, the famous fitness guru started with a current photo where she's smiling for the camera while sitting behind a table, hands clasped comfortably in front of her with her frosty blonde hair pulled half back and trailing down in loose curls over her shoulders.

Then, the slideshow kicks off, showing Austin in the '90s, first wearing a silky white leotard, and a huge smile showing off every tooth in her perfectly straight, white smile.

The second photo cuts to Austin, who got her start as the first fitness correspondent on the Today show. In it, she can be seen sitting on a white floor, leaning to the side with her weight resting on one hand, with the other resting on a knee. She donned a matching turquoise crop top and bike shorts, still sporting her signature blonde locs.

The third photo was a black-and-white action shot where Austin was caught mid-jump in a belted unitard, sneakers, and slouch socks. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail and she flexed while catching air.

There were several more photos showing the 69-year-old more than three decades ago in various workout gear, on magazine covers, and sharing a mix of fitness moves.

Legendary Country and Folk Singer Dead At 84: What We Know About Joe McDonald’s Cause of Death

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 12:49pm

The music world has lost another legend as country and folk singer Joe McDonald has died at the age of 84.

McDonald co-founded and was the lead singer for the band Country Joe and the Fish. Best Classic Bands was the first to break the news that the talented musician had died.

Joe McDonald’s Cause of Death

While his official cause of death has not been confirmed, according to the outlet, McDonald died in Berkeley, California, after battling Parkinson’s disease for years. Best Classic Bands confirmed the news, shared by a source close to McDonald’s wife, Kathy.

TMZ has also confirmed the sad passing of McDonald, citing sources close to the singer.

McDonald leaves behind quite a legacy. The singer was a huge part of the San Francisco Bay Area music scene during the 1960s, performing with Country Joe and the Fish, which was founded in 1965 by McDonald and Barry “The Fish” Melton, hence the band's name.

Country Joe and the Fish's songs focused heavily on politics and social issues of that era. In fact, the group was best known for their politically charged song, anti-Vietnam War anthem "I-Feel-Like-I’m-Fixin’-to-Die Rag."

Remembering Joe McDonald

The late singer will forever be remembered for his infamous Woodstock moment. McDonald played twice at the iconic festival—once as a solo act and once with the band.

RIP Country Joe McDonald. Thank you for electric music for the mind and body, acoustic gems and LP’s that make my heart happy and my soul smile. pic.twitter.com/MoUIKSmoed

— Mark Munch Bishop (@MunchCleveland) March 8, 2026

However, it is McDonald’s solo performance that was ranked among the Top 15 performances at Woodstock decades later. During his final song, McDonald got the crowd riled up with his “Fish Cheer,” which normally spelled out the word Fish in honor of his band.

At Woodstock McDonald changed the cheer to say ““gimme an ‘F,’ gimme a ‘U,’ gimme a ‘C,’ gimme a ‘K’ What’s that spell?” “F**k!” The enthusiastic audience roared in response, and then McDonald led him in a sing-along of “I Feel Like I’m Fixin’ to Die Rag”.

In 1970 Country Joe and the Fish broke up, leading McDonald to focus on his solo music career. Some of McDonald’s most popular solo songs include "Agent Orange," "Save the Whales," "Kiss My Ass," and "Man From Athabaska."

Nancy Guthrie Update: Sleep Expert Says One Scenario Left Him ‘Immediately' Concerned

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 12:41pm

The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie continues to raise new questions as experts examine what may have happened in the early-morning hours, which is when authorities believe the 84-year-old was abducted from her Arizona home. Guthrie has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1.

Speaking about the case on the March 7 episode of Nancy Grace's Crime Stories podcast, sleep specialist Pat Bryne said one particular scenario left him immediately" concerned, pointing to how the human brain reacts when someone is abruptly awakened in the middle of the night—especially during the deeper stages of sleep.

Expert Says Nancy Guthrie Was at 'Very High Risk' of a Heart Attack

Bryne explained that if someone is suddenly woken around 2 a.m., they may experience what’s known as sleep inertia, a period when the brain struggles to transition from deep sleep to full awareness, potentially leaving a person confused and disoriented for several minutes.

"So what I started to think about was what's going on in her brain? What sleep stage was she at? And how did that affect her emotions and her thought process once she woke up? So our human brains do not go from fully asleep to fully awake," he told Grace on the podcast.

"There's this process and it's called sleep inertia. There's this process of waking up. And that depends partly on how you're woken up and what sleep stage you're at. So, at 2 a.m., [Nancy Guthrie] was probably either in a very deep sleep or in what's called REM sleep, which is rapid-eyed movement sleep, which is where we dream. And the interesting thing about that is if she was in a deep sleep, then she would be incredibly confused."

Byrne explained that Guthrie likely wouldn't know where she was for a period of time, if she'd been woken up so suddenly. Couple that confusion with the fact that Guthrie had a heart condition (she had a pacemaker), and Bryne says it puts her at a "very high risk of a heart attack."

"That concerned me immediately," he said, before diving a bit deeper into the possible scenario. "The research just shows that elderly people who, even without heart conditions, are at a high risk of heart attacks and being violently woken up from a deep sleep. So that's what the scientific research shows. And so you add on the fact that she has a pacemaker, which means she has a heart condition, makes it worse."

Did Nancy Guthrie Leave Her Home Alive?

Investigators have not disclosed whether or not they have evidence that Guthrie was alive when she exited her home in the middle of the night (whether she walked on her own or was carried is also unclear).

There were drops of blood on the front stoop that were confirmed to be Guthrie's, but it's unclear where the blood came from exactly. In an interview with Fox News Digital, forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden explained that he believes that Guthrie was bleeding from the hands or face.

"The nature of the blood spots with little pale centers or donut shapes are typical for drops that come from the nose or mouth, because they’re mixed with air," he told the outlet last month.

Alysa Liu Reveals ‘Insane’ Training Rule That Once Stopped Her From Drinking Water

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 12:34pm

Olympic figure skating champion Alysa Liu is opening up about the extreme training environment she experienced as a young athlete, along with some of the rules she says now seem “insane.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone released on Saturday, March 7, Liu revealed that the pressure to control her weight went far beyond food restrictions. At one point during her teenage training years, she says she was even discouraged from drinking water.

“They were like 'Water weight, you shouldn't drink water,'” Liu, 20, recalled. “You should gargle it. It's crazy. It's insane.”

At only 13 years old, the California native burst onto the national stage by becoming the youngest woman ever to win the U.S. figure skating championship. She followed that breakthrough by winning the title again the following year, but the rapid rise came with a cost.

View this post on Instagram

By the time Liu competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing at just 16 years old, she says the sport had started to feel more like work than something she loved. The physical and emotional demands had built up over time, and shortly after the Games, she made the surprising decision to step away from competitive skating.

For a while, it seemed like Liu might never return to the sport. But two years later, a family ski trip with a friend unexpectedly reignited her passion for winter sports. That experience ultimately convinced her to lace up her skates again—though this time, she made it clear that things would be different.

READ MORE: Alysa Liu Says Her Dad ‘Didn’t Deserve to be Happy’ Over Skating Comeback in Bold Interview

Before returning, Liu set firm boundaries with both her coaches and her father, Arthur Liu, who had previously played a major role in managing her career. This time, she made it clear the dynamic would be different. In the interview, Alysa said she “didn’t care” how her father felt about her decision to return after being upset when she initially quit. If she was going to compete again, it would be entirely on her terms—meaning full control over how she trained, what she ate, the music she skated to, and keeping her father completely out of the decision-making process.

The new approach has clearly paid off. During the 2026 Winter Olympics, Liu stunned critics who had questioned her unconventional preparation—including her admission that she ate pasta and chocolate cake before a major performance. Instead of slowing her down, Liu skated her way to double gold medals.

Elizabeth Hurley Stuns in the Same Versace Dress She Wore to the 1999 Met Gala

Sun, 03/08/2026 - 11:43am

Elizabeth Hurley went back into the archives and pulled out one of her most iconic pieces — a Versace dress she wore while attending the 1999 Met Gala in New York City.

The glamorous black gown, which featured a plunging neckline, a bejeweled centerpiece, and a dramatic thigh-high slit that exposed her leg (sorry, Angelia Jolie, but Hurley was the first to do it), made waves on the red carpet at the time. So it was only fitting for Hurley to bring back the unforgettable look.

Taking to Instagram, Hurley shared a side-by-side photo of herself wearing the Versace number in 1999 and again this year, proving that the gown still fits like a glove.

The actress captioned her post, "Viva Versace! For this weekend's adventure in India, I dug into my archives and unearthed one of my favourite pieces, which I last wore to the Met Gala in 1999. 😳 27 years may have passed, but some loves never fade 💋 #Versace #shoppingfrommycloset @versace @donatella_versace."

Fans quickly flooded the comment section, marveling at how incredible Hurley looks in the dress nearly 30 years later.

"You look more beautiful than ever now and wore it better NOW!!" A fan wrote. "GORGEOUS!!!!!! And timeless! 🔥," another comment read. "Always a Goddess 🙌🏼❤️," another read.

Just last year, Hurley celebrated turning 60 by posing nude in a photo shared on Instagram, where she also reflected on her decades-long career.

"Happy birthday to me! This year has already been a wild ride; my 30th year of working with the Estée Lauder Companies, my 30th year as the Global Ambassador of the @esteelaudercompanies Breast Cancer Campaign, the 20th anniversary of @elizabethhurleybeach and… I’m in love ♥️♥️♥️ ," she captioned her image.

She continued, "Feeling very blessed and grateful for having the best friends & family in the world ♥️ pic taken this afternoon… in my birthday suit xxx."
