Disney Cruise Line is officially rolling out a major wave of policy updates across its entire fleet, and the new rules are tightening the reins on what you can bring onboard, how you capture your memories, and even how you decorate your cabin.

The biggest policy shift tackles how guests handle libations, and it’s a disappointing update for fans of a poolside toast. Disney Cruise Line is officially cutting its embarkation alcohol allowance in half.

Under the previous policy, adults could bring two bottles of wine or champagne onboard at embarkation; starting this week, that limit has been reduced to just one bottle of wine or one six-pack of beer per passenger, which must be packed strictly in your carry-on luggage.

Furthermore, any alcohol you purchase at your tropical ports of call will now be held by the ship until the end of the voyage. On the bright side, if you do bring your own bottle to dinner, the dining room corkage fee is dropping from $29 down to a more wallet-friendly $20.

But the restrictions don’t stop at the bar. While selfie sticks and tripods have always been allowed on Disney ships—unlike the company’s theme parks—the line is implementing strict new size limits on photography gear. Moving forward, extension poles, selfie sticks and tripods must remain folded and under 18 inches while in public areas onboard. Anything longer than 18 inches is now restricted to your stateroom and can only be used ashore at ports of call.

Finally, the line is laying down the law on the beloved guest tradition of stateroom door decorating. While families can still cover their metal doors in custom magnets and Mickey ears, Disney Cruise Line is drawing a firm boundary: all decorations must be placed strictly on the stateroom doors themselves.

Even though Cyndi Lauper's hit song "Time After Time" enjoyed two weeks on the Billboard charts, the feat was just the beginning of how the song became established in pop culture history.

First hitting No. 1 on the Billboard chart on June 9, 1984, the song, a ballad-type tune that was a different style for the rocker at the time, who had released "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" a year earlier, went on to become one of her most recognizable hits.

Its origin story however, comes from a not-so-conventional place. Lauper has shared that the title of the song was actually inspired by a sci-fi movie title.

“I thumbed through a TV Guide Magazine. One movie title seemed good, a sci-fi film called ‘Time After Time’ from 1979," she told the Wall Street Journal in 2015. "I never meant for it to be the song’s real title. It was just supposed to get me thinking.”

"As I danced to what [songwriter Rob Hyman] played, I started thinking about up and down, lost and found: ‘If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting / Time after time’ and ‘If you’re lost you can look and you will find me / Time after time.’ It sounded odd at first, but when I sang it, I realized what I was talking about," she said. "They were pieces of my personal life.”

"Time after Time" came a year after Lauper's career had kicked off and was a part of her album entitled 'She's So Unusual.' She was no stranger to the Billboard chart as "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" also saw success at No. 2 in the famed ranking months before, according to Billboard.com.

"Time After Time" was also nominated for a Grammy for Song of the Year in 1985. The award ultimately went to "What's Love Got to Do with It" by Tina Turner.

Through the years though, the song has been covered over 400 times according to SecondHandSongs' database. Some notable versions of the hit song include ones by Miles Davis, Willie Nelson, Quietdrive, and SarahMclachlan. The song was also featured in the movie 'Romy and Michelle's High School' reunion.

"A lot of the song to me was kind of spiritual and it also was kind of deep because it's about testing love," Lauper told Rolling Stone in 2021. "Because if you love somebody you're there. I think that is what grabbed people, and the fact that there were real moments of humanity in it."

If you've ever done something and later said to yourself, "Ugh, I wish I did that differently," you're not alone. We've all been there. But some people might start to notice patterns about themselves, such as withdrawing and staying silent when they're troubled. If that sounds like you, you might wonder, "Why do I go quiet when I'm upset? Why don't I ever stick up for myself?"

Shutting down, at least verbally, when you're bothered can feel like self-sabotage, and you may serve as your biggest critic. But Dr. Ernesto Lira de la Rosa, Ph.D., a psychologist and Hope for Depression Research Foundation media advisor, regularly reminds people that our reactions make a lot more sense once we understand where they come from.

"Going quiet when upset is not random behavior," he tells Parade. "For some people, it was how they learned to stay safe, avoid conflict or manage overwhelming emotions."

Dr. Lira de la Rosa says it's not always bad to "zip it" if you're unhappy. But habitually staying silent can create misunderstandings that frequently affect your life and relationships.

"The [people] around you may assume you are angry, disconnected, punishing them or simply uninterested, when, internally, you may actually feel hurt, overwhelmed, anxious or unsure how to put your feelings into words," he explains. "Over time, emotional silence can also create distance in relationships."

If you continue to internalize difficult emotions, problems usually remain unresolved. He shares that it's a breeding ground for resentment, and communication can start to feel less emotionally safe for everyone involved. Plus, there's a personal cost:

"Suppressing emotions does not mean they disappear," the psychologist says.

And sometimes, these emotions can manifest as certain characteristics. Dr. Lira de la Rosa shares that when you understand the "why" behind behaviors, you can make choices about what to do next. To help, he reveals seven traits of people who go quiet when they're upset, along with his tips for working on this habit.

What Is Emotional Withdrawal, Exactly?

Dr. Lira de la Rosa shares that emotional withdrawal occurs when someone pulls back emotionally. He notes this often happens in moments of hurt, stress, conflict or feeling overwhelmed.

"This can look like becoming unusually quiet, shutting down in conversation, avoiding eye contact, physically leaving the room or becoming emotionally hard to reach," he states.

Importantly, he reports that you can experience unintentional emotional withdrawal.

"Many people assume someone is being cold or punitive, but in many cases, the person is actually struggling to regulate intense emotions," the psychologist notes. "Their nervous system may essentially be saying, 'This feels like too much right now.'"

Plus, it can actually be healthy to take a beat, temporarily, he states. You don't have to respond to conflict or hurt right away, all the time.

But, he clarifies that, "The issue arises when emotional withdrawal becomes the default way someone handles distress, especially if it prevents communication or emotional repair."

Why Do Some People Go Quiet When They're Upset?

Dr. Lira de la Rosa stresses that people can go quiet when they are upset for many reasons, and not all of them are unhealthy. But others, such as habitual conflict avoidance, are problematic.

"Some people need time to process before they can clearly communicate what they feel," he notes. "They may become quieter because they are trying not to say something impulsive or hurtful."

Sometimes, silence during unhappy periods is a reaction that developed much earlier in life, often in childhood.

"If someone grew up in an environment where emotions were dismissed, criticized or escalated into conflict, going quiet may have become a protective strategy," he explains. "In adulthood, that pattern can continue even when the original threat is no longer present."

Personality can also play a role.

"Some people naturally process emotions internally rather than externally, meaning silence reflects reflection rather than avoidance," he adds. "The key question is whether the silence creates understanding or disconnection."

7 Traits of People Who Go Quiet When They're Upset, According to a Psychologist

1. They tend to process emotions internally

Dr. Lira de la Rosa shares that people who are silent when they're bothered are often "internal processors" who naturally turn inward if hard emotions come up.

"Rather than immediately talking through their feelings, they need time to make sense of what they are experiencing internally," he tells Parade. "This is often less about avoidance and more about the need for emotional clarity before speaking."

2. They can become emotionally overwhelmed easily

It's actually common for people to "put a lid on it" when they start to feel a barrage of tough emotions. But this trait often gets confused with frequent emotional disconnect, when it's actually the opposite.

"When emotions feel intense, some people become quiet because their internal system is overloaded," Dr. Lira de la Rosa explains. "In those moments, finding the right words can genuinely feel difficult. Silence can be a sign that someone is emotionally flooded rather than emotionally detached."

3. They often dislike conflict 

Honestly, most people don't relish conflict, but some people dislike it more than others. If you fit that bill, you may be conflict-avoidant and slip into "radio silence" when you're upset.

"People who go quiet when upset are sometimes highly uncomfortable with confrontation," Dr. Lira de la Rosa notes. "They may worry that expressing frustration will make things worse, lead to rejection or escalate into a larger conflict. Silence can feel safer than emotional risk."

4. They may be highly self-monitoring

There's nothing "wrong" with having a filter. Yet Dr. Lira de la Rosa notes that filters can sometimes become too strong, especially in times of stress and conflict.

"Some individuals carefully monitor what they say, especially when emotional," he says. "They may worry about being misunderstood, sounding too emotional or saying something they regret later. As a result, silence becomes a form of emotional caution."

5. They may have learned early that emotions were not welcome

If you go silent when you're upset and have this trait, there's a good chance you developed it in childhood.

"Our early environments shape how we handle distress," Dr. Lira de la Rosa reports. "If someone grew up in a home where emotions were dismissed, mocked, ignored or met with anger, they may have learned that staying quiet was the safest option. That pattern can persist well into adulthood without the person fully realizing it."

6. They may fear vulnerability

Psychologists often say that vulnerability can deepen relationships. Yet, people who often go silent when they're stressed or sad may avoid vulnerability at all costs.

"Speaking openly when hurt requires emotional exposure," Dr. Lira de la Rosa points out. "For some people, that feels deeply uncomfortable because vulnerability has historically felt unsafe or risky. Going quiet can function as emotional protection."

7. They may struggle to identify exactly what they are feeling

We're talking a lot more about feelings these days in the (grand)parenting zeitgeist, and even in schools. However, it hasn't always been this way, so it's completely understandable if you struggle with emotional identification.

"Not everyone has easy access to emotional language," Dr. Lira de la Rosa states. "Some people know they are upset but cannot immediately identify whether they feel hurt, disappointed, anxious, angry or embarrassed. Silence can happen when someone is still trying to understand their own emotional experience."

What To Do if You Withdraw and Get Quiet When You’re Upset1. Get curious about your silence instead of judging it

If you go quiet when you're upset, Dr. Lira de la Rosa says it's tempting to label yourself as "bad at communicating." He suggests asking yourself some questions instead, such as: "What is my silence doing for me?" "Is it helping me calm down, protecting me or avoiding discomfort (or all three)?"

"That kind of curiosity fosters self-awareness, where change begins," he notes. "Even simply noticing, 'I tend to go quiet when I feel criticized,' can be incredibly useful."

2. Communicate that you need space instead of disappearing emotionally

Dr. Lira de la Rosa emphasizes that needing space is completely valid, and it's not always a problem to fix.

"The difference is communicating that clearly rather than leaving the other person guessing," he says. "A simple statement like, 'I am upset and need a little time to process, but I want to come back to this conversation,' can make a huge difference."

He loves that this phrase protects your emotional needs while maintaining connection.

3. Notice whether this is a long-term relationship pattern

This one is big. Dr. Lira de la Rosa shares that if going quiet is occasional, it may be your processing style. The caveat?

A 1971 smash hit became an instant favorite with listeners, but its unlikely path to success is a story many fans have never heard.

In April of that year, John Denver released "Take Me Home, Country Roads." The song, from the LP Poems, Prayers, and Promises, had a slow-burn start, and didn't hit its peak No. 2 position until four months later, in August.

The song's rise to popularity in the United States can be traced to a little-known story involving a West Virginia teenager. According to Metro News, the teen played a pivotal role in turning the track into a nationwide hit.

A 15-year-old DJ at radio station WMOV, David Hoyt, acquired a copy of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" from a listener whose son was stationed in the military overseas. The song was reportedly first released in Europe before becoming a stateside hit.

“A listener’s son had been stationed overseas. She saw him perform the song, or rather he did, and bought the album. He brought it home with him, so he and his mom brought it to the station for me to hear,” Hoyt said.

“I may have only been like 15 at the time, but I knew what a hit song sounded like. We started playing it on WMOV, and the response was just amazing,” he added.

Hoyt reportedly began producing copies of the single and sharing them with other local DJ's, and listeners were said to have called Denver's record company, RCA, asking the song to be released as a single in the states.

Hoyt soon received a call from Denver's manager, Jerry Weintraub, and he told him the song was "lightning in a bottle" and that "he needed to call RCA and tell them to release it here because I thought the song would sell a million copies just in West Virginia.”

He concluded, "It dropped off the charts after a few months, and they wanted to go ahead and release something else, and I guess John Denver convinced RCA to stay with the song, so it eventually came back on the charts and climbed to the top ten, and, of course, ever since then, it’s just grown in leaps and bounds in popularity.”

"Take Me Home Country Roads" was written by John Denver and Bill and Taffy Danoff. In March 2014, the West Virginia legislature passed a resolution designating "Take Me Home, Country Roads" as one of four official state songs.

The Molson Coors Beverage Company brand is kicking off the "summer of soccer" with a special release inspired by the elongated cheers of fans, turning its classic beer can into one that's nearly three times the size of a standard can.

And it's not only bigger, but better, too, as the limited-time "Tallerboy" will actually keep your beer cold.

The limited-release is much taller than a tallboy (hence the name) and looks just like the original Coors Light can, except the "Coors" has been elongated in a playful nod to the cadence of applauding soccer fans and to match the ratio of the much taller canister. While the exact height of the Tallerboy was not immediately available, we do know it's tall enough to hold and chill three full Coors Light cans at a time.

Once the interior is stacked with three cans of Coors, the Tallerboy is technically filled with 36 ounces of the American-style light lager, making it larger than all of the more conventional packaging styles of singles: stubby (8-ounce), standard (12-ounce), tallboy (16-ounce), stovepipe (19.2-ounce), silo (24-ounce), and crowler (32-ounce).

"The Tallerboy is everything 'The Cooors Call' stands for, brought to life in physical form," Matt Carpenter, Vice President of Marketing at Coooors Light, shared in a June 9 press release. "Extra long celebrations deserve something that allows you to hold onto those game moments a little longer, and Tallerboy does exactly that — three cans, one canister and a whole lot of extra Os."

When and Where Will the Tallerboy Be Available?

In 1970, English rock band Free had a breakthrough hit with ”All Right Now.”

Written by Andy Fraser and Paul Rodgers for the band’s third album Fire and Water, the hard-rocking song peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 1970. “All Right Now” became the band’s signature song as well as a classic rock anthem thanks in large part to guitarist Paul Kossoff’s iconic, driving guitar work.

The BBC’s Classical Music ranked the recognizable chords from “All Right Now” as one of the all-time most iconic guitar riffs that defined rock music.

The outlet noted that while Free was invited to play at Woodstock, the band turned the gig down. “And yet somehow, few licks define the spirit of the cultural revolution of the Woodstock generation more than ‘All Right Now’, despite it having not featured. It’s just two chords, strummed in a spirited fashion, but the effect is sensational,” the BBC music site added.

While “All Right Now” became an iconic hit, it didn’t take long to write. In the liner notes to Free's Molten Gold anthology, drummer Simon Kirke revealed that after a particularly disastrous gig, the band realized they needed to add an up-tempo song to their set list.

"All of a sudden the inspiration struck Fraser, and he started bopping around singing 'All Right Now,” Kirke recalled. “He sat down and wrote it right there in the dressing room. It couldn't have taken more than ten minutes. Andy soon had the riffs worked out, and Paul came up with the words. That song changed our lives."

Fraser told Songwriting Magazine he originally came up with the famous riff on the piano before handing it off to Kossoff.

"Basically the chorus wrote itself, the chords took me about 10-15 minutes, and then Paul came up with the verses while he was waiting for a lift to a gig the next day,” he said of the song.

Free disbanded in 1973 singer-songwriter Rodgers famously went on to form Bad Company with Kirke. The singer also left “All Right Now” behind for nearly two decades.

“After I left Free, I didn’t play ‘All Right Now’ for many, many years because I thought, ‘I've gotta move on,’” Rodgers explained during a 2023 appearance on TalkShopLive. “I was doing the Bad Company thing, and then I did the Firm, we didn’t do much Free then.”

Rodgers revealed that he finally agreed to perform "All Right Now," one of his best-known songs, after not playing it for 18 years. The moment came as Rodgers was playing a show in support of a Muddy Waters tribute album.

“One day we were in this club, a fabulous club somewhere, I can’t remember where, unfortunately. And [Jason Bonham] said, ‘Let’s do ‘All Right Now!’ and he started it,”  Rodgers recalled in the interview. “And the audience all picked up on that, and they all said, ‘Yeah, come on! ‘All Right Now!’ …All the musicians behind me want to play ‘All Right Now,’ and all the audience is going for it. I went, ‘OK, let’s do it,’ and it was amazingly refreshing to play it. It really was.”

When it comes to actors of the ‘80s, Michael J. Fox is one who immediately stands out. The man who brought Marty McFly to life in Back to the Future turns 65 today, June 9, 2026.

Born on June 9, 1961, Fox started his career with the name Mike Fox and then Michael Fox. His middle name is actually Andrew, but he ended up adding the J when he joined the Screen Actors Guild, as there was already an actor with the same name as him. He thought it would be fun to add a different letter, with fans joking that it stands for “Jello” in the 1990s, as that was reportedly his favorite dessert.

While he did appear in TV shows and smaller movies in the early 1980s, including an episode of TheLove Boat, it was Back to the Future that put him on the map. He also starred in Family Ties and has appeared in the likes of Scrubs, Boston Legal, and, most recently, Shrinking, where he plays a patient diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

In fact, he won an Emmy Award for Family Ties, becoming the youngest actor ever to win an award at the age of 25. He still holds that record 40 years later, with the only person to come close being The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White at the age of 32.

However, it’s not his acting that most people know him for today. It’s for his activism. When he was just 29, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, a devastating and progressive disorder. He has often said that due to the illness, he doesn’t expect to live past the age of 80, but he continues to fight every day for awareness and potential treatments.

Fox originally noticed a twitch in the pinky of his left hand when filming Doc Hollywood, and he was diagnosed shortly after that. It wasn’t until 1998 that he made his illness public, and he launched the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2000 in the hope of finding a cure.
