The 5 TV Premieres We're Most Excited for in April 2026

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 8:00am

Spring has officially sprung! But, with the advent of streaming, the garden of TV has always been in bloom (for lack of a better term). No matter the month, there always seems to be some show that's on the horizon, ready to keep our eyes glued to the screen as we stay inside to avoid myriad allergy attacks. And, this upcoming month, I've got an eye on a handful of things, from the final seasons of The Boys and Hacks to highly-anticipated returns of Euphoria and Beef to Malcolm in the Middle's revival over 20 years in the making.

Here are the top 5 shows I'm most excited for in April 2026 across broadcast TV, Netflix, Prime Video and more.

The Top 5 TV Shows Premiering in April 2026The Boys Season 5 (April 8) Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy (L) and Antony Starr as Homelander (R) in 'The Boys'

Courtesy of Amazon

What exactly is The Boys at its core? A send-up of superhero culture when it was at its mainstream peak? A commentary on the push and pull between celebrities and corporations? A thinly veiled satire of a certain Commander-in-Chief. Much like Homelander (Antony Starr), the hit Prime Video series' power set seems to be all of the above.

The final season of Eric Kripke's show kicks off with the titular "supe" resistance force in dire straits. The megalomaniacal Homelander has essentially been given unlimited control, and former leader Butcher (Karl Urban) has gone rogue, holding a deadly biological weapon that could wipe out anyone with powers. Considering the dark and incredibly graphic nature of The Boys up to this point, we're bound to lose at least a few of the teeming ensemble cast by the time things are said and done. And, with the first two of the final eight episodes dropping on April 8, we shall see if they choose to start things off with a bang (and hopefully in not a "Herogasm"-esque way).

Hacks Season 5 (April 9) (L-R) Jean Smart as Deborah and Hannah Einbinder in 'Hacks'

Courtesy of HBO

The trajectory of Hacks is not dissimilar to one of an up-and-coming comic. Serving as one of the debut scripted series for nubile streaming service HBO Max in 2021, the comedy show quickly caught fire, gaining immediate critical acclaim. And the hype behind the adventures of Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) hasn't died down, with the show and its stars picking up well-deserved Emmy wins (including four straight awards for Smart).

Sadly, all good sets must come to an end. And so Hacks is finishing, appropriately, with a "tight five," with the final season premiering April 9. Season 4 had Deborah arguably hitting her lowest point, quitting her late-night show and running away to Singapore. But, after reading a false obituary, she's eager to bring her career — and herself — back from the dead. No matter where she and Ava end up by season's end, Hacks fans should be in store for plenty of cameos, including a number of famous faces playing fictional versions of themselves.

Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair (April 10) Frankie Muniz as Malcolm in 'Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair'

Disney/David Bukach

Before Bryan Cranston was running through the New Mexican desert in his briefs on Breaking Bad, he was standing in the kitchen in his tightie-whities, getting his back shaved. Malcolm in the Middle was a key part of FOX's powerhouse comedy line-up in the early 2000s, becoming one of the first single-camera sitcoms that didn't make use of a laugh track or a studio audience. Instead, we were brought intimately into the home of a house teeming with testosterone as dysfunction, as Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) talked through the trial and tribulations of being the black sheep of the family.

Now, after nearly 20 years away, the family is back with a whole new generation of shenanigans. Nearly all the stars of the original series are reprising their roles, including Muniz, Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Justin Berfield and Christopher Masterson. Not to mention now Malcolm is in the middle of two different levels of the family tree, as he's now trying to take care of his own daughter, Leah (Keeley Karsten), who's showing way too many of her father's neurotic tendencies. With all four episodes dropping on April 10, it's the latest sitcom to re-emerge in the 2020s, trying to both update its comedy for the modern age while reminding us what made it a classic in the first place.

Euphoria Season 3 (April 12) Zendaya as Rue in 'Euphoria'

Patrick Wymore/HBO

Here's everything that has happened since Euphoria was last on the air. Zendaya continued to see box office success with Dune Part Two and Challengers, and both got engaged to and secretly married Tom Holland. Sydney Sweeney became a movie star in her own right and has been quite the talk of the town — for better or worse. After winning an Emmy for his performance as Ali, Colman Domingo received two Oscar nominations in a row. And creator Sam Levinson attempted another HBO project with the critically-panned The Idol.

Indeed, as the years went on, and the star power of the cast began to rise, there was considerable discourse as to whether Euphoria would ever return for Season 3. And, at long last, school is back in session for Rue and company. Not literally, as it seems the new batch of episodes will be moving away from its academic setting. And it won't be without some losses, namely the absence of cast members like Angus Cloud, Barbie Ferreira and Storm Reid. But regardless of the number of teens we see on screen, they will surely be troubled, and we'll be along for every moment of one of the wildest rides on HBO today.

Beef Season 2 (April 16) (L to R) Charles Melton as Austin Davis, Carey Mulligan as Lindsay Crane-Martin, Oscar Isaac as Josh Martin, Cailee Spaeny as Ashley Miller in 'Beef'

Courtesy of Netflix

Beef was one of the meatiest shows when it debuted in 2023. While the series was fueled by the deep-seated anger between Danny (Steven Yeun) and Amy (Ali Wong), smiles were abound as the show picked up massive acclaim and Emmys for both of its stars, as well as creator Lee Sung Jin. And now it's time to serve up more petty grievances for another helping of Beef.

Season 2, airing in its entirety on April 16, goes the full anthology route. This time, we're taken to the inner workings of a Korean country club, as a young couple coincidentally bears witness to a frightening argument between their boss and his wife. Yeun and Wong are out, as Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny step into the proverbial slaughterhouse, in a set of performances that are sure to be far from lean.

Award-Winning Author’s Novel Ranked ‘Best Reviewed Book of the Month’

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 7:46am

Francis Spufford’s “spellbinding” Nonesuch tops the list for best reviewed book this month.

With seven raves and five positive reviews, the fantasy novel, which was released Feb. 26, is gaining traction with fans and critics alike.

Set in London in the summer of 1939, the story unfolds through Iris Hawkins. Following a chance encounter with tech wizard Geoff, Iris’ world is turned upside down, sending her spiraling into a “nightmare of otherworldly pursuit” and on a mission to stop a woman from altering the course of history. Nazis, time travel, dark magic, romance: It’s all here.

“Both a thrilling page-turner and a profound exploration of ambition, love, and the fight against tyranny, Nonesuch is a story that is as enchanting as it is urgent. Packed with twists, tension, and wonder, it is a triumph of storytelling,” its description reads.

Reviews for Nonesuch

“A formidable achievement, a popcorny delight of a novel -- and those who agree will be pleased by an ending that hints we’ve plenty more to come from Spufford’s fantasy multiverse.” -- The Guardian

“[Francis Spufford is] one of our most powerful writers of wayward historical fiction.” -- The Washington Post

“Equal parts stunning historical fiction and daring fantasy, Nonesuch is a look at a London that never was through the eyes of a remarkable woman.” -- Bookpage

“All this is fun. The novel does what few time-travel fantasies do: It laughs about the pleasure that can be had once we grant ourselves the power to change history. At the same time, however, it asks questions, as all time-travel novels do, about who gets to tinker with time, and who lives at its mercy.” -- The New York Times

An award-winning English writer, Spufford began his career with nonfiction before turning to novels with Red Plenty in 2012. Today his arsenal includes Golden Hill, Light Perpetual, and Cahokia Jazz, all of which received major award recognitions.

1988 Folk Rock Song Hit No. 1 Two Decades After It Was Recorded

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 7:16am

Few songs have had a second life like “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).” First released in 1988, the popular sing-along song from Scottish duo The Proclaimers didn’t initially top the U.K. charts. But almost two decades later, a rerecorded version finally carried it to No. 1.

On March 31, 2007, a special charity rerecording of the beloved track climbed to the top of the U.K. Singles Chart. The new version was recorded to raise money for the charity Comic Relief, with comedians Peter Kay and Matt Lucas featuring on the track alongside the duo’s twin brothers, Craig Reid and Charlie Reid.

The meaningful project brought an unexpected surge of success to The Proclaimers, with the song becoming the band’s first-ever No. 1 single in the United Kingdom.

For The Proclaimers, this was a fitting moment of recognition for a song that had already become one of the most recognizable folk-rock anthems of its era, proving that sometimes a hit just needs a little time to reach the top.

Related: Hit ’90s Rock Band Reveals New Album With Wild Space Stunt

“I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” originally appeared on the band’s second studio album, Sunshine on Leith, which was released on Sept. 12, 1988. The album helped cement The Proclaimers’ reputation for heartfelt songwriting and their folk-rock sound.

Sunshine on Leith produced several well-known songs that remain staples of the duo’s catalog. The title track, “Sunshine on Leith,” became a beloved anthem in Scotland and has since taken on a life of its own at sporting events and cultural gatherings. Another standout from the album, “I’m On My Way,” also became a hit.

When “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” was rerecorded in 2007, the band's Sunshine on Leith album was also adapted into a musical of the same name written by Stephen Greenhorn. A movie adaptation came out in 2013 starring Peter Mullan, Jane Horrocks, George MacKay, and Antonia Thomas, among others.

Holland America Line is Hiding a One-of-a-Kind Bourbon on Every Ship

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 7:10am

This is the kind of "only on a cruise" story that makes for a perfect conversation starter. We’ve seen single-barrel programs and high-end tastings before, but Holland America is quite literally turning its entire fleet into a floating distillery.

To celebrate International Whiskey Day, the line announced it is partnering with Jefferson’s Bourbon to age spirits at sea, marking the first time the distillery has put its barrels on a passenger cruise ship rather than a cargo vessel.

By the end of April 2026, all 11 ships in the fleet will be carrying their own exclusive barrel of Jefferson’s Ocean Bourbon. These barrels aren't just tucked away in a warehouse; they are hitching a ride for at least six months, letting the salt air, shifting temperatures, and the constant motion of the ocean naturally "agitate" the whiskey.

Related: Holland America Line’s New 8-Day Asia Cruise is a First for 2027

Holland America Line

It’s a process that mimics the way spirits were aged during the original age of sail, giving the bourbon a finish that simply can’t be replicated in a stationary rickhouse in Kentucky.

And this isn't just a one-off gimmick—it’s a growing trend. I was actually able to taste my first vintage of wine aged at sea at Bora on the Celebrity Xcel recently. I’m not sure if it was just the power of suggestion or the salt air, but the mineral quality was truly different from anything else I've tried. It’s as if the "controlled stress" of the maritime environment—the constant vibration and pressure—adds a certain energy and tension to the liquid that you just don't get on land.

Related: Holland America Line Announces Renovations to One of Its Most Beloved Ships

As Trey Zoeller, founder of Jefferson’s, explains: "By placing Jefferson’s Ocean barrels on their cruise ships, we’re diving into a quest to see how different routes and voyages (meaning different climates and agitation) influence the taste, smell and mouthfeel of our whiskey."

While the first barrels are loading now, you’ll have to wait until 2027 to taste the final product from this specific fleet-wide "maiden voyage." Each barrel will yield only about 150 to 300 bottles, making it an incredibly limited-edition souvenir that you can only find on board. It’s a clever way to toast to America’s 250th anniversary, proving that even a 150-year-old cruise line can still find a new way to shake up the tradition of the high seas.

From Junkie to Jedi: Ewan McGregor Turns 55 and He's Just Getting Started

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 7:09am

Thirty years in, and Ewan McGregor still hasn't done the predictable thing.

Born March 31, 1971, in Perth, Scotland, and raised in nearby Crieff, McGregor arrived in Hollywood as a restless, technically trained actor willing to take chances. That instinct has built one of the most versatile and iconic careers in modern film.

His breakthrough came in 1996 with Danny Boyle's Trainspotting, where he played heroin-addicted Mark Renton in a dark comedy that took an blunt look at poverty and drugs in 1990s Scotland. The film was an international hit and established McGregor as something as a raw and committed talent. Then, three years later, he did the thing no one would have predicted. He stepped into Alec Guinness's shoes.

In 1999, McGregor took on the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, sharing scenes withLiam Neeson and Natalie Portman. Expectations for the new franchise addition were sky-high, and his performance was consistently one of the elements critics and fans treated as beyond criticism. He returned for two more prequel films and then, decades later, reprised the role in the Disney+ limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi, which featured an older, somewhat defeated Jedi Master emerging from a hermit-like life to save a young Princess Leia.

Related: Ryan Gosling Just Revealed the 'Star Wars' Detail That Has Original Trilogy Fans Cheering

But the Star Wars chapter is just one corner of what McGregor's impressive career. Between lightsaber fights, he sang alongside Nicole Kidman inMoulin Rouge!, won an Emmy Award playing fashion designer Roy Halston in the Netflixlimited series Halston, and earned a Golden Globe for his dual-role turn in FX's Fargo. Most recently, he starred in A Gentleman in Moscow, the 2024 Paramount+ adaptation of Amor Towles' novel, earning a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Best Actor nomination at the Critics' Choice Awards.

Off-screen, McGregor serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF UK and his long-distance motorcycle journeys with Charley Boorman (documented across multiple Long Way series) revealed a genuinely curious person who loves experiencing new things, a trait reflected in his storied acting career.

In September 2024, McGregor was honored with star number 2,789 on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, situated just a few feet from the star honoring the late Carrie Fisher. At the ceremony, co-star Hayden Christensencalled him 'one of our great actors.' McGregor, for his part, spoke about what has kept him going. 'I wanted to do this all my life,' he told the crowd. 'Since I was just a little boy, I wanted to be an actor.'

Whether he is playing a Jedi Master, a Soviet-era aristocrat under house arrest, or a desperate junkie, McGregor brings that drive and devotion to his shockingly broad range of roles. At 55, he may just be hitting his stride. He recently wrapped production on David Robert Mitchell's Flowervale Street for Warner Bros., opposite Anne Hathaway.

John Mulaney’s Young Son Asked to Meet Elvis at Graceland — His Response Has Fans Howling

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 7:05am

Comedian John Mulaney faced a huge problem when visiting Elvis Presley's Graceland with his four-year-old son, Malcom.

During an interview with Stephen Colbert for his Late Show, Mulaney revealed the preschooler is a huge fan of the King of Rock and Roll. So when the comedian performed on the Graceland Soundstage on February 12, 2026, he took his son along for the fun.

However, he didn't expect to have to reveal some hard truths about his life to the little boy, who was excited to see all of Presley's personal belongings at his Memphis, Tennessee home. Mulaney explained his predicament to Colbert.

"He came to Memphis with me recently," the comedian began. "Which was great because I was performing at the soundstage at Graceland. They have a beautiful stage there."

He continued, "Malcom, my son, is four, and he's a huge Elvis fan. I asked him if he wanted to get a tour of Elvis' house."

Mulaney revealed his son was excited by the idea. The comedian continued, "Five p.m., sunset, they give us a tour. We were told we were going to see 'some special spots.'"

"My son goes, 'I want to go on the roof.' They go, 'Well we don't have people up on the roof.' So he says, 'You said special spots,' and I said, 'He's right.'"

"So we're walking through the Jungle Room, and Malcom goes, 'Dad, can I meet Elvis now?'" Mulaney added, "It had never come up while listening to 'Hound Dog.' You don't go, 'Son, this guy's dead.'"

"Then I realize, all his grandparents are alive, and he's never had a goldfish, and he doesn't know. And he's about to find out in the Jungle Room at Graceland that everybody dies."

"So I said, 'Elvis is in heaven now.' He asked, 'Why?' I said, 'Well, sometimes when people are in their early 40s, and they have a job and a schedule a lot like daddy, and some of the same issues as dad, they go to the bathroom and they go to heaven,'" the comedian deadpanned, causing both the audience and Colbert to laugh hysterically.

Fans responded to the YouTube video link with their take on Mulaney's parenthood predicament.

"I bet Malcom needs a parent escort to the bathroom for a while!!!!" wrote one fan. A second responded, "They go to the bathroom, and they go to heaven. Effortlessly...off the cuff. This is why he's my favorite comedian."

John Mulaney's comedy tour continues throughout 2026 until November.

'Orange Is the New Black' Star Involved in Shocking Physical Altercation

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 7:02am

Taryn Manning, one of the stars of Orange Is the New Black, was seemingly involved in an altercation with her girlfriend, Holly Hartman, this week.

In video footage obtained by TMZ, the Hustle & Flow actress is seen arguing with Hartman at Manning’s studio before kicking and throwing things at her. It appears as though Hartman is recording the incident.

View this post on Instagram

At one point, Manning, 47, screams, “Look what you’ve done to my f—ing studio!” She then appears to attack Hartman, before saying she’s going to call the police.

“Call the police. I’ll show them you just attacked me,” Hartman says.

Manning kicks a chair at Hartman, then lunges at her before the video shuts off.

According to the outlet, the pair have been in a toxic relationship for years.

In 2016, Hartman, who was Manning ex-makeup artist, per Entertainment Tonight, filed for a restraining order against Manning following another physical altercation. At the time, Manning was accused of assaulting Hartman, but the request for a restraining order was denied because it was filed in Los Angeles and the incident took place in New York.

According to court documents, the incident involves the Crossroads actress headbutting Hartman, then, per Hartman: “Whipped me with a wet towel. Sprayed Windex in eyes and mouth. Put me in a headlock cutting off air.”

Also in the documents, Hartman says Manning yelled, “Pick a knife. I’m wearing a white shirt. There will be a lot of blood. You will be famous for killing Taryn Manning.”

In 2012, Manning was arrested for attacking Hartman on another occasion. The charges were dropped, with Manning’s lawyer releasing a statement to ET.

"The court has already denied the request by Ms. Hartman for a temporary restraining order," the statement read.

"The application for the order is suspect because Ms. Manning has had no contact with Ms. Hartman in many months due to Ms. Hartman's actions against Ms. Manning which are currently under criminal investigation in multiple jurisdictions. These investigations have long predated these entirely fabricated allegations. Ms. Hartman is under investigation for stalking Ms. Manning and for theft and other crimes. It is clear that Ms. Hartman's camp has leaked these allegations which were not available publicly to elevate her own position and obscure her own wrong doing."

Rotten Tomatoes Names The No. 1 Movie of the 1980s

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 6:39am

Rotten Tomatoes has spoken, naming the best movie of the 1980s. With iconic films like Pretty in Pink, Bull Durham, Cinema Paradiso, Working Girl, Wall Street, and more in contention, choosing the best film the ’80s had to offer is no easy feat.

Rotten Tomatoes is a review aggregation site that calculates the percentage of critics who gave a film or television show positive reviews. To make their pick, Rotten Tomatoes curated a list of the top 185 films of the decade and named the No. 1 film of the 1980s.

Why Stop Making Sense Was Named the Best of the 1980s

“Critics Consensus: Jonathan Demme's Stop Making Sense captures the energetic, unpredictable live act of peak Talking Heads with color and visual wit.”

“Synopsis: Filmmaker Jonathan Demme captures Talking Heads and an ecstatic ensemble of musicians at their exhilarating best in this iconic live performance.”

What Stop Making Sense Is About

The film, directed by Jonathan Demme, is widely regarded as one of the greatest concert films ever made and quickly gained critical acclaim for its innovative approach to the concert film format.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest concert films ever made, the film captures the energy and artistry of the Talking Heads at the height of their popularity.

Talking Heads Members Featured in the Film

The film begins with Talking Heads frontman David Byrne performing solo and gradually expands into a full-band production. Known for its minimal staging and striking lighting, the film emphasizes visual storytelling rather than a typical documentation of a live performance.

In addition to Byrne and his iconic oversized suits, Stop Making Sense features Tina Weymouth on bass, Chris Frantz on drums, and Jerry Harrison on guitar and keyboards. They are joined by touring musicians who add depth and rhythm to the performance.

Lasting Impact and Recent Resurgence

The band members have reunited for special screenings and Q&A events, highlighting the lasting impact and continued interest in the decades-old film. The film is available to stream on platforms like Amazon Prime and Apple TV and continues to captivate audiences with its energy, originality, and unforgettable performances 42 years after its release.

Beloved 'Cheers' Star and Sitcom Icon Turns 78

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 6:35am

If you grew up watching Cheers, chances are Rhea Perlman as Carla left a lasting impression—and today, the beloved sitcom star is celebrating her 78th birthday on March 31, 2026.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Perlman built a career that spans decades, but it was her role on Cheers that made her a household name. As the quick-witted, endlessly sarcastic Carla Tortelli, she delivered some of the show’s most unforgettable moments, earning multiple Emmy Awards along the way.

With her sharp comedic timing and no-filter delivery, Perlman created a character that still resonates with fans today—equal parts hilarious, tough and unexpectedly heartfelt.

Beyond Cheers, Perlman has appeared across film and television, continuing to charm audiences with her unmistakable presence. Perlman has enjoyed a wide-ranging career across film, television and voice work. She appeared in fan-favorite films like Matilda alongside her husband, Danny DeVito, as well as projects like Canadian Bacon and Sunset Park, and made guest appearances on numerous TV shows over the years.

She’s also lent her voice to animated series and brought her signature comedic energy to stage work. Disney fans may also remember her as the voice of 9-Eye in The Timekeeper, a fan-favorite experience once located in Tomorrowland at Walt Disney World Resort.

Her career has been defined by roles that feel both larger-than-life and deeply relatable, helping her remain a familiar and comforting presence on screen. Off-screen, Perlman shared one of Hollywood’s most enduring relationships with DeVito, 81.

The pair met in the early 1970s, married in 1982 and went on to have three children together—Lucy, Grace and Jake. While they later separated, the two have remained close over the years, often speaking warmly about their family and long history together, which has always resonated with fans who grew up watching them both on screen.

As Perlman turns 78, her legacy as one of television’s most iconic comedic talents continues to endure and serves as proof that some performances never go out of style.

Nancy Guthrie Update: There's 1 Reason the Ransom Was Likely Not Paid, Nancy Grace Says

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 6:17am

As questions continue to surround the Nancy Guthrie case, Nancy Grace is offering her perspective on one detail drawing particular attention: the ransom demand. In exclusive clips sent to Parade from Nancy Grace’s interview on the Hang Out with Sean Hannity podcast, the legal analyst explained why she believes the family likely didn’t respond, pointing to factors she says often come into play in situations like this.

Related: Savannah Guthrie Breaks Silence on Ransom Notes in Mom’s Case

"[There's] a lot of people attacking Savannah—'Why did you pay the ransom? Why didn’t you pay sooner? Why didn’t you this, that?' There’s no script for what you’re supposed to do. I think Savannah and her brother and sister, Annie and Camron, did everything they were physically able to do at that moment. Savannah, in her interview [on Today], stated that they got many, many quite fake ransoms, but that she believes those two to which she responded—she believes they were real," Grace told Hannity.

"I know Savannah well enough that when she gave a response—twice, she responded—she would not have done that if she did not believe the ransom notes were real," Grace continued.

Grace and Hannity then recalled one of the Instagram videos that the Guthrie siblings made to address the suspected kidnappers, telling them that they would "pay" the ransom, which was sent to a variety of news outlets, including TMZ.

"There are a lot of different notes, I think that came. And I think most of them, it’s my understanding, are not real,” Guthrie told Hoda Kotb in an interview that aired in three parts last week. "But I believe the two notes that we received that we responded to, I tend to believe those were real."

Regardless of their authenticity (or lack thereof), Grace doesn't think that the Guthrie family paid the ransom at all.

"I think the reason they didn’t pay—if, in fact, they didn’t, and I don’t believe they did—is because they never got proof of life. I mean, you and I knew at the beginning something was off, in that the ransom was not requested immediately. You take somebody—you want to feed them for a week and then ask for the money? No. You want the money, then you want it to be over with—you want to get the hell out of town," Grace told Hannity.

Guthrie, 84, has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1.

You can watch Grace’s full interview on FOX News Media’s Hang Out with Sean Hannity out today.

Budget Airline Officially Cancels Flight Routes to This Popular Destination

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 6:02am

A major shift in European travel is underway, and it could have ripple effects for anyone dreaming of an island escape this year. Budget airline Ryanair has officially canceled all of its flight routes to the Azores and the impact could be bigger than many travelers realize.

A Sudden End to Budget Flights

As of March 29, 2026, Ryanair has completely withdrawn from the Azores, canceling six routes that once connected the islands to major cities like London, Brussels, Lisbon, and Porto.

For years, these routes offered one of the most affordable ways to reach the remote Atlantic islands. Now, with a single decision, roughly 400,000 annual passenger seats have disappeared. For travelers, this marks the end of an era of ultra-cheap access to one of Europe’s most breathtaking destinations.

Why Ryanair Pulled Out

The airline has been clear about its reasoning: rising costs made the routes unsustainable. According to Ryanair, air traffic control charges in Portugal have increased by around 120%, and a new travel tax has added further financial pressure. The airline also pointed to high airport fees set by ANA, the operator of Portuguese airports, as a key factor, said Ryanair's COO, Jason McGuinness, who added, "After 10 years of year-round Ryanair operations, one of Europe’s most remote regions will now lose direct low-fare flights to London, Brussels, Lisbon, and Porto due to ANA’s high airport fees and Portuguese Govt. inaction."

In simple terms, it became too expensive for a low-cost carrier to operate in a place where keeping prices low is essential to its business model. Rather than raise fares significantly, Ryanair chose to pull out entirely and shift its planes to cheaper destinations across Europe.

This decision isn’t happening in isolation, either. The airline has been cutting routes in multiple countries due to similar cost concerns, signaling a broader trend in budget travel.

Related: 5 of the World’s Must-Visit Cities Are in Europe and They Need to Go On Your Travel Bucket List

Why the Azores Matter

The Azores are unlike anywhere else in Europe. Made up of nine volcanic islands located about 950 miles from mainland Portugal, the region is known for its lush green landscapes, crater lakes, hot springs, and dramatic coastlines.

Often compared to Hawaii, the Azores have become increasingly popular in recent years, especially among eco-travelers, hikers, and those looking for a quieter alternative to crowded Mediterranean hotspots.

Budget flights played a huge role in that rise. With Ryanair offering low fares, the islands became far more accessible to younger travelers and those planning spontaneous trips. Now, that accessibility is changing.

What This Means for Travel

The immediate impact is simple: getting to the Azores will likely become more expensive and less convenient. With Ryanair gone, fewer airlines are serving the islands directly, especially at low prices. Some routes may still be available through carriers like British Airways, but often on a seasonal basis and at higher fares.

Miguel Quintas, president of ANAV, is warning the country that the loss of low-cost flights could lead to reduced tourism and even price increases across hotels, tours, and local businesses. For travelers, this means planning ahead is more important than ever. Last-minute deals may be harder to find, and flexibility with travel dates could make a significant difference in cost.

Related: Alaska Airlines Set to Make History With Its First-Ever Flight to Europe

How to Plan Smart If You Still Want to Go

The Azores are still very much worth visiting but your strategy may need to change.

  • First, book early. With fewer flights available, prices are likely to rise closer to departure dates.
  • Second, consider connecting routes. Flying into mainland Portugal, such as Lisbon, and then taking a regional airline to the islands may be a more reliable option.
  • Third, be flexible. Traveling in shoulder seasons (spring and fall) could help you avoid peak pricing and limited availability.
  • And finally, keep an eye on airline updates. Route changes and new carriers could emerge as the market adjusts to Ryanair’s exit.
The Bigger Picture

Ryanair’s decision highlights a growing tension in travel: the balance between affordability and rising operational costs. As taxes, fees, and environmental policies evolve, budget airlines are being forced to rethink where and how they operate. In some cases, that means cutting off even popular destinations if the numbers no longer work.

For travelers, the takeaway is clear: the Azores aren’t off the map, but they may no longer be the budget-friendly escape they once were. Planning ahead, staying flexible, and adjusting expectations will be key to experiencing this Atlantic paradise in a post-Ryanair world.

31 Years Ago Today, ‘90s Star With Seven No. 1 Hits Tragically Died at 23

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 6:00am

On March 31, 1995, the news that Mexican-American sensation Selena ( Selena Quintanilla-Perez) had been murdered sent chills throughout the world. Just 23 years old, the breakout singer's star had only begun to rise. Dubbed the "Queen of Tejano" by fans and admirers, she won her first Grammy award for Best Mexican/American Album for Selena Live! the year before, becoming the first Tejano singer to do so.

She had already endeared herself to those who loved Mexican and American fusion music, but her charisma and musical talent had also helped introduce even more people to the popular, infectious genre. Despite her young age, which led some to believe she'd risen quickly in her career, Selena began singing at 6 and formed a band with her dad, brother, and sister just a few years later.

View this post on Instagram

"We have been playing fourteen years as a family," she told Latin Style Magazine (via Selena Forever). "We’ve been seeing success for the past five. This year has been the best."

Despite how much she loved singing and performing, she admitted that she used to be painfully shy, and the only reason she and her family started a band was because her father's restaurant failed.

"The economy went down and we couldn’t survive because the restaurant was just too big," she said. "We lost everything, we lost our house; you name it; we lost it. The only way to put food on the table was to go into the music as a profession. We struggled a lot to get where we are today."

Yolanda SaldĂvar had previously managed Selena's fan club and one of her Selena Etc. boutiques. However, after some employees complained about payroll issues, Selena, her father, Abraham, and her sister, Suzette, suspected her of embezzling money and fired her.

A few weeks later, Selena agreed to meet SaldĂvar at a Days Inn hotel to retrieve financial documents SaldĂvar still had. After trying to stall and delay handing them over, she shot her in the back, severing an artery. At Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital, Selena was pronounced dead from blood loss and subsequent cardiac arrest.

Over the years, Selena's memory hasn't faded, but has gotten stronger. Jennifer Lopez starred in a well-received, emotional portrayal of the singer in 1997's Selena, and in 2025, the documentary Selena Y Los Dinos was released, featuring home videos, behind-the-scenes moments, and interviews with her family and husband, Chris Pérez.

View this post on Instagram

In her hometown of Corpus Christi, a statue and museum dedicated to the singer were also created. The Grammy Museum's new exhibition, Selena: From Texas to the World, also opened January 15, 2026.

By the early to mid-1990s, she had several No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, including Bidi Bidi Bom Bom and No Me Queda Mås, with several reaching the top after her death, showing how huge her impact was. Her 1995 album Dreaming of You debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

After her death, her music remained hugely popular, and to this day, she still stands as one of the most influential Latin artists ever.

SaldĂvar was sentenced to life in prison for murder. She was denied parole in 2025 and won't be eligible again until 2030.

‘Brady Bunch’ Mom Florence Henderson Revealed Her Biggest Struggle Playing Carol on the Classic ‘70s Sitcom

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 5:58am

When The Brady Bunch premiered in September 1969, fans were introduced to the blended Brady family of eight and their live-in housekeeper. Starring Robert Reed, Florence Henderson, Ann B. Davis,Barry Williams, Maureen McCormick, Christopher Knight, Eve Plumb, Mike Lookinland, and Susan Olsen, the beloved family sitcom aired for five seasons on ABC.

The tight-knit Brady clan relied on housekeeper Alice (Davis) so much that she even went with them on a family trip to Hawaii.

The premise of the show bothered Henderson, who played matriarch Carol Brady, from the jump. In an interview with The HuffPost Show, Henderson once revealed that she fought for her character to be a working mom.

“I begged for a job [for Carol], because I’ve been a working mother,” she said. “I have four children. [They said] ‘No you can’t. Alice is taking care of’—I go, ‘ugh, well then give me a job.'”

Carol Brady never had a job during The Brady Bunch’s original run. But when the cast returned for the 1988 TV movie A Very Brady Christmas, the empty-nester mom finally found herself a career.

“When we started having all the reunions, I said, ‘I will not come back unless you give [Carol] a job,’” Henderson revealed. “So you know what they made me? Screw them. A real estate agent!”

Florence Henderson feared fans would hate Carol Brady

As a mother of four in real life, Henderson was known for her busy stage, TV, and music career well before she joined The Brady Bunch. Once she signed on for the sitcom role, she feared fans would think the unemployed Carol was “spoiled,” especially since she had hired household help.

"I fought so hard to have Carol Brady get a job," Henderson told ABC News in 2012. "I said, you know, she's got Alice
people are going to hate [her]. I worked all my life. And through all pregnancies.
 [The network] wouldn't do it."

"I did needlepoint," Henderson added of her character. "I helped Alice prepare food. But I guess they wanted me to be the perfect wife and mother."

Still, she wasn’t thrilled with the job producers finally gave Carol years later. "You know what job they gave me?
 Real estate," Henderson said.

Florence Henderson didn’t want any more Brady kids

Mike and Carol Brady came into their marriage with three kids each from their first marriages. Henderson told ABC News, "It was the first blended family on television. And we were the first couple to sleep in the same bed, to actually let people know how you get six children,”

But the Brady bed didn’t produce any more kids, and for good reason: Fans didn’t want it. And neither did Henderson.

In a 1971 interview with The Central New Jersey, Henderson revealed that producers wanted her character to become pregnant with twins early on in the series.

"I wasn’t so crazy about the idea," Henderson admitted, per MeTV. "Then they made some audience reaction tests. The surprising thing was that audience reaction to a larger family was very cool.”

The Brady Bunch star reasoned that “all the aspects of the population explosion and environmental pollution” may have affected the audience’s reaction.

Fans would eventually see Carol Brady as a grandmother in the later Brady Bunch TV movies.

1980 Heartbreak Country Ballad Became an Unforgettable No. 1 Hit

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 5:51am

In 1980, an unforgettable country heartbreak ballad dominated the airwaves, resulting in a No. 1 hit for singer George Jones.

"He Stopped Loving Her Today" hit the top spot on Billboard's Country Charts in July 1980 and remained on the charts for 19 weeks. The song was a classic tearjerker hit, filled with longing and a haunting sense of devotion.

Listed at No. 6 on Rolling Stone's 2013 Readers Poll of the saddest songs of all time, Jones' hit stands out above the rest as a real heart-tugger. The song tells the story of a man who remains deeply in love with a woman who left him, and never truly moves on.

The song follows his life over the years as he clings to memories of her, rereads old letters, and refuses to let go, even as others see his devotion as sad or obsessive. The emotional twist comes at the end: he “stops loving her” only when he dies.

At his funeral, she returns, and it’s clear his love lasted his entire life. That’s what makes it so powerful. It’s not just a breakup song, but a story about lifelong, unconditional love that endures through time.

American Songwriter reported that "He Stopped Loving Her Today" was composed by Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman. The duo had previously written a hit for Jones' ex-wife Tammy Wynette titled “D-I-V-O-R-C-E.”

Producer Billy Sherill liked the heartfelt song, but felt it was missing a key element. That moment was a heartbroken, spoken-word middle section that tied up the song's entire storyline.

Per American Songwriter, Jones said in his autobiography, I LivedTo Tell It All, that he wasn't a fan of the song. “I looked Billy square in the eye and said, ‘Nobody will buy that morbid son of a b****.’”

RELATED: 1977’s Bittersweet Country Chart-Topper Has an Unforgettable Story Behind It

However, the song's blockbuster success changed Jones' perspective on the song. “To put it simply, I was back on top,” he wrote in his autobiography, citing a career slump he experienced before the tune's success. “Just that quickly. I don’t want to belabor this comparison, but a four-decade career was salvaged by a three-minute song.”

"He Stopped Loving Her Today" won a Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance, Male (1981). It also won the Country Music Association (CMA) Song of the Year for two years, in 1980 and 1981, and CMA's Single of the Year. Additionally, it secured the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Single of the Year and Song of the Year.

George Jones died in April 2013. He was 81.

We Asked 3 Nutrition Experts the Best Habit for Steady Energy—They All Said the Same Thing

Tue, 03/31/2026 - 5:50am

For most people, energy levels ebb and flow throughout the day. For example, you may feel super energized after your morning cup of coffee, but by the time mid-afternoon hits, you’re dragging and doing everything you can to power through. Maybe you’re hit with a second wind later in the day, which serves as the push you need until it’s time to go to bed.

Managing energy peaks and valleys can be challenging. Ever have to sit through a boring Zoom meeting right when that mid-afternoon energy drop hits? It’s rough. Maintaining a stable energy level—not too frantic and not too depleted—throughout the day is certainly preferable for most people.

You may think the secret to achieving this all-day balanced energy centers around your sleep schedule. While consistently getting enough sleep is certainly important, the most effective change could be related to your diet.

Anyone who has ever experienced a caffeine buzz or sugar rush knows firsthand that diet impacts how awake and alert we feel. According to three registered dietitians we spoke with, there’s one dietary rule that can help maintain stable energy levels all day long, and it’s a habit that goes beyond caffeine intake. Keep reading to find out what it is.

The Best Habit for Maintaining Stable Energy, According to 3 Registered Dietitians

We asked three registered dietitians for the best habit for maintaining stable energy levels and they all had the same answer: Keep your blood sugar levels steady.

“When blood sugar rises quickly, typically after high-carbohydrate or sugary meals, it’s often followed by a rapid drop due to insulin release. This spike-and-crash pattern can lead to feelings of fatigue, irritability and low energy shortly after eating,” says Kacie Vavrek, RD, a registered dietitian at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Vavrek explains that experiencing repeated fluctuations makes it harder for the body to maintain a steady energy supply. The inverse is also true: More stable blood sugar levels help support consistent energy, focus and overall metabolic regulation.

Related: People With a Lot of Energy Do This One Thing Every Day, According to Neurologists

Registered dietitian Maggie Michalczyk, RD, puts it this way: “Blood glucose provides energy to our cells. So when our blood sugar levels go up and down, so do our energy levels.” Because of this, she says that maintaining stable blood sugar is the key to sustaining energy throughout the day and to having enough energy for activities of daily living and exercise. “The blood sugar roller coaster, dramatic spikes and crashes, drains your brain and body of fuel, making it hard to concentrate and feel energized,” Michalcyzk adds.

Now that you understand how maintaining balanced blood sugar is connected to keeping energy levels steady throughout the day, comes the next big question: How do you keep blood sugar balanced?

Registered dietitian Dr. Sonya Angelone, PhD, RDN, says that one key way to do this is by pairing carbohydrate-rich foods with foods high in protein, fiber or unsaturated fats. “This will slow digestion, leading to more sustained blood sugar release and stable energy,” she says.

Michalczyk agrees, adding, “For example, instead of just having a piece of toast, add almond butter, banana slices and pumpkin seeds on top for a snack balanced with protein, fat and fiber."

Related: Feeling Sluggish? Experts Say That These 58 Natural Foods Will Give You an Energy Boost

Vavrek recommends prioritizing foods high in fiber (like whole grains, fruits and vegetables) and minimizing ultraprocessed foods with refined sugar (such as sugary drinks and packaged pastries). She explains that foods with refined sugar raise blood sugar more than foods high in fiber.

Dr. Angelone agrees that it’s also important to avoid sugary drinks, including sodas and flavored coffee drinks. “[These drinks] can get absorbed quickly and lead to a rush, followed by a crash in blood sugar and energy, especially when taken without a balanced meal,” she says.

Vavrek and Dr. Angelone both tell Parade that not skipping meals is also important for maintaining stable blood sugar. They explain that when there’s a long gap between meals, it can cause blood sugar levels to drop.

Surprising Foods and Drinks That Spike Blood Sugar

Maybe you already know that sugary drinks and pastries raise blood sugar. Some culprits are a little sneakier. For example, Dr. Angelone says that many people don’t realize that fruit juice can spike blood sugar levels. She explains that this can happen even if it’s 100% fruit juice with no added sugar because the fiber has been processed out. For this reason, consuming the actual fruit won’t spike blood sugar as much as drinking fruit juice.

According to Dr. Angelone, breakfast cereal is another sneaky cause of blood sugar spikes. “Even if it’s labeled as whole grain, it can still contain a lot of added sugar,” she says. The lesson here: Eye the nutritional panel when shopping for cereal and put anything high in added sugar back on the shelf.

On a similar note, Dr. Angelone reveals that eating only a granola bar for breakfast or lunch can also cause a rise and fall in blood sugar. If you’re going to have a granola bar, pair it with a food high in fiber, protein or unsaturated fats to avoid this impact.

Michalczyk and Vavrek both share that snacking on plain crackers can also cause blood sugar levels to go up. To avoid this, pair your crackers with hummus, guacamole, cheese or tuna to blunt the impact.

Last, Dr. Angelone and Vavrek both say that consuming alcohol, especially on an empty stomach, can lead to a dramatic drop in blood sugar. To avoid this, pair your drink with a nutrient-rich meal or snack.

“Managing blood sugar levels is about knowing how your body responds to the foods you eat. Sometimes a continuous blood sugar monitor can provide this information so you can better understand how different foods and meal timing affect your blood sugar levels throughout the day,” Dr. Angelone explains. If you’re interested in using a continuous blood sugar monitor to see how your dietary choices are impacting your blood sugar, talk to your healthcare provider.

Once you start crafting your meal timing and consumption with your blood sugar levels in mind, you’ll notice that you have more sustained energy throughout the day as well as a more balanced mood. Save those dramatic highs and lows for the amusement park!
