Homemade pretzels sound great in theory, but in reality, they can feel like a big project. Between yeast, rising time and shaping dough, it’s not exactly something most people decide to make on a whim. I live in "pretzel country," and we can get them on just about every corner and in every variety, so making them at home isn't really something I have given much thought to, but I recently saw a shortcut version on social media, shared by content creator @alfskitchen, and it was so simple, I knew I had to give it a try.

The best part is that this pretzel-making hack uses ingredients I always have on hand (hello, canned crescent rolls!), and I could make them in less than 30 minutes, which is faster than leaving the house to buy some. Plus, it cost about $4 for eight pretzels, which is a lot cheaper than buying them.

The process couldn’t have been simpler, and both the prep and cleanup were super easy. This is the kind of snack that works for just about anything—game day, after-school snacks or a last-minute appetizer when you want something warm and salty without much effort, and (spoiler alert) my kids loved them! That alone makes them worth making again.

Ingredients Needed for Crescent Roll Pretzel Bites

You’ll need refrigerated crescent roll dough, baking soda, water and salt. That’s the base.

From there, you can keep it simple or dress them up with butter, garlic, cinnamon sugar or dipping sauces like mustard or cheese.

Why Crescent Roll Dough Works for Pretzel Bites

Crescent roll dough is already enriched and soft, which makes it easy to shape and bake quickly. While it doesn’t have the chew of traditional pretzel dough on its own, the baking soda bath changes that.

Did you know you could do this?! It’s a simple food hack using canned croissants and they taste amazing! Flavor of a pretzel with the flaky texture of a croissant! These were great, and next I’m trying it with homemade croissants! Ingredients: • 1 can of larger @Pillsbury crescent rolls • 6 cups of water • 4 tsp baking soda • Flaky salt Instructions: 1. Unwrap and roll up your crescent rolls just like you would if you bake them normally. I set them aside for proof a bit, but that’s optional! 2. Bring 6 cups of water to a boil, and then toss is 4 tsp of baking soda and mix. Cut off the heat and grab the rolls. 3. Carefully place each roll in for about 60 seconds, removing with a slotted spoon and transferring to a parchment paper lined baking sheet. I also recommend lightly dusting it with flour! Keep in mind the rolls will be very soft at this point! 4. Bake in a preheated 400°F oven for 20-22 minutes, or until browned. How To Make Pretzel Bites With Crescent Rolls

Separate the crescent roll dough and roll it like normal. Bring a pot of water to a boil and add baking soda. Carefully drop the dough pieces into the water and boil briefly.

Then, remove them and place on a baking sheet. You can do one at a time or all together, as long as you move quickly. Keep in mind that the dough may seem a little slimy when you remove it from the water, and that's totally normal. It will still bake as expected.

Sprinkle with salt (as much or as little as you like) and bake until golden brown (about 20 minutes at 400°) and that's it!

The baking soda bath raises the dough’s pH level, which encourages browning and creates a chewier crust. This is the same principle used in classic soft pretzels, just simplified.

My Honest Thoughts

These were very good for how easy they are. The texture was closer to a soft pretzel than I expected, and they disappeared fast. This is one of those recipes that feels almost too simple, but it delivers exactly what it promises.

If you want pretzel bites without committing to a full baking project, this is absolutely worth making. It won't replace my weekly pretzel stops, but it will be a regular appetizer or snack in my house.

Final Takeaways

Don’t overboil the dough or it will fall apart. Just a quick dip is enough.

For a sweet version, leave off the salt and toss the baked bites in melted butter and cinnamon sugar.

This is a great base recipe, and once you try it, you’ll probably start finding excuses to make it again. I want to cut them into smaller pieces and dip them in a cream cheese dip.

Red Bull fans are vocal about the energy drink, regularly taking to social media to share what they like and don’t like about the brand’s rotating selection of flavors. 

When the Winter 2025 flavor launched, fans were ecstatic over the news, celebrating the taste of Fuji Apple & Ginger, and begging the brand to make it permanent. Though, for now, Red Bull Fuji Apple & Ginger is nothing more than a distant memory for American consumers, a popular Red Bull flavor is currently available in the United States after first being launched in Japan over a decade ago.

The new Cherry Sakura Spring Edition features flavor notes of cherry, cherry blossom, and almond, and is available now in both regular and sugar-free versions.

In 1976, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band released a live version of the 1973 song “Turn the Page.” The single, from the album Live Bullet, featured a haunting saxophone intro and a raw vocal performance, and it helped solidify the legendary rocker status on mainstream classic rock radio. "Turn the Page" stood the test of time and remains one of Seger’s most popular songs 50 years later.

In 2025, Ultimate Classic Rock ranked “Turn the Page” at No. 22 on its list of the Top 100 Classic Rock Songs of all time. The outlet noted that the powerful track, recorded at Detroit’s Cobo Hall, does “a remarkable job summing up the grueling and lonely realities of the day-to-day life of a musician on the road in the early '70s.”

Bob Seger wrote ‘Turn the Page’ on the road

“Turn the page” is a timeless road trip anthem, so it’s fitting that it was started on the road.

In a 1994 interview with Music Connection, Seger noted that he rarely wrote songs while on tour. “I hardly ever wrote on the road,” he shared. “I was more of a field general, and there wasn't a whole lot of time for writing on the road back then. The only two songs that I can think of that I wrote on the road are ‘Turn The Page’ and ‘Night Moves,’ but those were basically cases of getting an outline of verses over three-hour periods. The songs weren't totally finished until I had a week or two off the road to really knuckle down on them.”

Seger didn’t want to make a live album

Seger’s live ode to the road was recorded at a time when he didn’t even want to record a live album. But on the heels of his successful Beautiful Loser album, the singer knew he had to release something in a timely manner.

“I was really opposed to a live album, but frankly, I just couldn't finish the new record,” he told Rolling Stone in a 1976 interview, per UCR. "We just couldn't wait any longer or we'd lose all of the momentum from 'Beautiful Loser.' We weren't even getting gigs 'cause we were so cold.”

The live version of “Turn the Page” became a standout on the album and a concert mainstay.

Seger loved a hard rock cover version of ‘Turn the Page’

 More than 20 years after Seger’s classic was recorded,  Metallica recorded a hard-rocking version of “Turn the Page.” The 1998 recording was the first single from the band’s album Garage Inc.

During a  2023 appearance on The Howard Stern Show, drummer Lars Ulrich said he knew Seger’s song would be a good fit for Metallica singer James Hetfield.

“I was driving across the Golden Gate Bridge up in San Francisco and I heard the live version of 'Turn the Page,' and I could just hear James singing that,” Ulrich recalled. “The first thing that popped out was just James would f---ing nail this vocally and just the lyric element, I think it felt like it would speak on his behalf and to the situation that we were in and there was just something about the vocals.”

Seger approved Metallica’s rendition of his song. In an interview posted by Artisan News Service, the rock legend said, "I loved it. They told me they were gonna do it, and I loved it. I really like the drums, especially because our drums are really simple and (they did) a cool take on it.”

Fifty years ago today, two guys named Steve signed a piece of paper and changed everything.

On April 1, 1976, Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and a lesser-known third partner named Ronald Wayne founded Apple Computer Company as a partnership. The date, April Fools' Day, was either cosmic irony or perfect strategy, depending on how you look at it. Nobody in the world would have bet serious money on what came next.

Wozniak was a 26-year-old engineering intern at Hewlett-Packard when he presented his computer design to his employer. The company expressed no interest. So he turned to a former high school classmate instead. Jobs was 21 years old. Their initial idea was simply to assemble computers for their friends. They had no real sense they were about to upend an entire industry.

To finance the venture, Jobs sold his Volkswagen Bus and Wozniak sold his HP-65 calculator, together earning roughly $1,300. Operations started in Jobs's bedroom and later moved to the garage. Wayne, who held a 10% stake, cashed out less than two weeks after the company's founding for just $800. It remains one of the most expensive decisions in Silicon Valley history.

The Apple I, designed entirely by Wozniak, was not the sleek, sealed device we associate with Apple today. It was sold without a monitor, keyboard, or casing. It was priced at $666.66. Wozniak later said he was unaware of any sinister connotation in the number, he simply liked repeating digits. About 200 units sold. It was a start.

The real turning point came in 1977 with the Apple II. It revolutionized the computer industry with the introduction of the first-ever color graphics, and sales jumped from $7.8 million in 1978 to $117 million in 1980, the year Apple went public. The IPO minted a generation of millionaires overnight and put the company on the map permanently.

What followed is a story most Americans know by heart. The Macintosh, Jobs's ouster, his return, the iMac, the iPod, the iPhone. Each product reset expectations for what a consumer device could be. The iPhone, introduced in 2007, became one of the world's most successful products. Jobs died in 2011, but the company he co-founded in a Los Altos garage kept going.

Today, the numbers are almost hard to process. Apple now has 2.5 billion active devices worldwide, iPhones, iPads, Macs, Watches, and more. Its market cap currently sits around $3.77 trillion, making it one of the two most valuable companies on the planet.

Not bad for a company that started with $1,300 and a spare bedroom.

It’s a clear signal that the airline is ready to move beyond the West Coast and take its signature care to the global stage.

Dunkin' is giving away free coffee today, and even though it's April Fools' Day, this isn't a joke.

Even if you’re not into psychology or the history of the scientific study, you’ve most likely heard of Carl Jung (or sometimes known by his full name, Carl Gustav Jung). He was a Swiss psychologist, psychiatrist and psychotherapist born in 1875 and died in 1961. Jung had an expansive career where he came up with psychological concepts and terms, and whose findings are still used in psychology today. So it’s no surprise that his words are Parade's quote of the day.

He notably founded the concept of analytical psychology, which deviated from his longtime collaborator Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory and placed greater emphasis on immediate conflicts rather than childhood traumas or issues, per Britannica. He developed concepts like extraverted vs. introverted personalities, archetypes, the collective unconscious and much more. 

The famous psychologist looked at the different ways humans interacted with each other, how they interacted with their own environment and how dreams and the unconscious impacted people. In fact, he really let himself explore his dreams and where they might have come from, which helped him develop the theory of the collective unconscious, which was the part of the mind that held the ideas and aspects that led to strange or interesting dreams. This led to Jung looking at how the Christian religion impacted the consciousness and how the Hermetic tradition was important to fill in the gaps that Christianity couldn’t.

With that said, Jung’s quote of the day has to do with unconscious bias and projection onto others and understanding what that means about ourselves.

“Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.”

This quote comes from Carl Jung’s semi-autobiographical book, Memories, Dreams, Reflections, which was first published posthumously in 1962 in German and then in English in 1963. Recorded and edited by Aniela Jaffé, an associate of his, the contents of this book include a combination of Jung’s lectures, conversations and writings. It tells his life story while also giving his psychological opinions and thoughts on many important topics. 

The section where this quote can be found is in the 9th chapter, called “Travels,” where he has five parts about different places in the world: "North America," "America: The Pueblo Indian," "Kenya and Uganda," "India" and "Ravenna and Rome." This quote is in Part II, “AMERICA: THE PUEBLO INDIANS,” which comes from an unpublished manuscript, the book says.

Deeper Meaning of Carl Jung’s Quote: Biases, Self-Awareness and Understanding

Considering a lot of his most popular concepts have to do with the unconscious mind, it’s not a shock that this quote dives into biases, projecting our own experiences and feelings onto others and finding a better way to understand them. 

Right before this sentence, Jung writes, “We always require an outside point to stand on, in order to apply the lever of criticism. This is especially so in psychology, where by the nature of the material we are much more subjectively involved than in any other science.”

We always have to have a starting point in terms of where our own opinions come from. Our morals, preconceived notions and knee-jerk reactions all come from what we’ve experienced before in our lives. Our biases—unconscious and otherwise—play such a major role in how we take in the world and other people.

He goes on to say that to understand how other nations see our own, we have to kind of put ourselves in their shoes. “... We must acquire sufficient knowledge of the foreign collective psyche, and in the course of this process of assimilation we encounter all those incompatibilities which constitute the national bias and the national peculiarity,” he writes. 

Then comes the quote: “Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.”

Jung then says that he understands England when he sees where he, a Swiss, doesn’t fit in, giving more examples as well. He writes that “there can be nothing more useful for a European than some time or another to look out at Europe from the top of a skyscraper.” You really can't get the full picture without taking a step back and looking at it from that distance, he's saying.

With all of that, Jung is saying that if at first someone annoys you, you probably are seeing them from only your perspective. And maybe this means you're projecting your own issues onto them, or you just aren't looking at why you're irritated from a bigger picture lens. Sure, someone could say something rude and absolutely mean it that way. But maybe that's not their intention, and they come from a place where those words aren’t rude or are common. Or maybe they’re doing something that bugs you, like how they blow their nose or eat their lunch. But just because it’s different than what you’re used to and what you know as “polite” or “normal,” may not be how it is for them. 

If we get irritated with someone, it could be because of what we acknowledge as acceptable, with no leeway for difference. But for Jung to say that “everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves,” he means that it can show us what our limits are in accepting others and where our gaps in knowledge are. It might also teach us that we’re not super patient or lack other virtues that we can work on as well. 

As the Society of Analytical Psychology (SAP) reported, Jung recognized four different functions—thinking, feeling, sensation and intuition—that people interact with when engaging with the world. Everyone’s primary function is different, and a lot of conflicts and misunderstandings come from differing functions butting heads. They see the world in different ways because of their primary function, and therefore project their inferior functions onto others, who might thrive with that function instead. They give an example of an intellectual looking down on a “sensual, sports-loving, sensation type.”

So, ultimately, we accept what we are comfortable with and don’t like that with which we're not as accustomed, potentially because we unconsciously see it as inferior. Not only can that teach us where our weaknesses are, but it can help us understand others who are different from us, and work on not projecting negative feelings onto them because of said dissimilarities.

Buckingham Palace announced King Charles and Queen Camilla will make a high-profile visit to the United States. This will be the first state visit by a British monarch since Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in 2007.

“On advice of His Majesty’s Government, and at the invitation of the President of the United States, The King and Queen will undertake a State Visit to the United States of America,” the palace announced via Instagram on March 31. “Their Majesties’ programme will celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the UK and the US, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence.”

When Is King Charles' US State Visit?

President Donald Trump, who is known to be fond of the royal family, confirmed Charles and Camilla’s visit will take place from April 27 to 30, 2026.

"I look forward to spending time with the King, whom I greatly respect," Trump wrote on Truth Social after the palace’s announcement, PBS reported. "It will be TERRIFIC!"

Charles and Camilla’s trip follows Trump's second state visit to the U.K. in September 2025.

What Is the Purpose of Charles’ State Visit?

Charles and Camilla are visiting to honor and commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. 

The monarch’s visit also comes amid growing tensions between the US and Great Britain. Trump has publicly butted heads with Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the country’s reluctance to get involved in the Iran war and its refusal to ​let the US use U.K. bases to launch initial attacks, per Reuters. Starmer, a former human rights attorney, has been outwardly critical of Trump’s attacks in the Middle East and pointed to climbing energy prices due to Iran’s closing of oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. 

Even as Charles and Camilla’s state visit was being announced, Trump singled out the U.K. on social media. 

"All ​of those countries that can’t get jet fuel ​because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation ​of Iran, I have a suggestion for ​you: Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, ‌and ⁠Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on March 31.

Starmer hopes Charles’ visit can help ease tensions. Prince William is also expected to visit the U.S. in the summer during the soccer World Cup.

Why Are There Calls to Cancel the Visit?

In March, a growing number of U.K. lawmakers began questioning whether Charles should visit the US after Trump began insulting Britain, saying Starmer is “not Winston Churchill” and the country was no longer “the Rolls-Royce of allies.”

Labour member of parliament Emily Thornberry suggested on March 17 that the trip be delayed, saying, per CNN, “The last thing that we want to do is have His Majesty … embarrassed.”

Ed Davey, leader of the opposition Liberal Democrats, said on March 31 that Starmer had shown “a staggering lack of backbone” by allowing the state visit to go ahead, and it was a “sign of a government too weak to stand up to bullies.”

English journalist David Dimbleby called the visit “an acute embarrassment,” per The Guardian, and several online petitions have popped up urging the cancellation of the trip.

What Is on King Charles’ Itinerary?

Charles’ full itinerary has not yet been shared, but Trump confirmed there would be a state banquet dinner at the White House on April 28. 

Charles has visited the United States a total of 19 times, but this will be his first state visit to the country since becoming the reigning monarch. His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, made four state visits to the US during her 70-year reign.

Will King Charles See Prince Harry?

Charles and his youngest son, Prince Harry, are not expected to reunite during the monarch’s trip stateside, a source told People.

"When you’re talking about a state visit, every minute is accounted for — especially when it’s the King traveling as the invited guest of a head of state," the source said in an article published on March 31. "Harry knows how things are and wouldn’t ask for that either under these circumstances."

In 1981, a flashy disco musical became famous, but not for the reasons its creators hoped. The film Can't Stop the Music took home two of the very first Golden Raspberry Awards, winning Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay. 

Today, 45 years later, it remains one of Hollywood’s most talked-about flops and a surprising cult favorite.

Released in June 1980, the movie tried to capture the magic of the disco era. Instead, it arrived just as disco music was fading fast. Critics were harsh, audiences stayed away, and the film quickly became a box office failure. But its legacy didn’t end there, it helped inspire the creation of the Razzies, an award show that still “honors” the worst films every year.

Directed by Nancy Walker, the film told a fictional story about how the disco group Village People came together. It starred Steve Guttenberg and Valerie Perrine and marked the film debut of Caitlyn Jenner.

The story follows a young songwriter trying to make it big in New York, with help from friends who form a singing group. Packed with musical numbers like “Y.M.C.A.” and “Milkshake,” the film aimed to be a fun, feel-good spectacle.

Producer Allan Carr had high hopes. He even described it as “Singing in the Rain for the disco crowd.” But by the time the movie hit theaters, disco was no longer popular. What was meant to feel fresh instead felt outdated.

Critics didn’t hold back. According to The New York Times, one review described the film as “thoroughly homogenized,” while others said the story lacked focus and energy. Even famous reviewers Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert named it among the worst films of the year.

Despite its big budget, estimated at around $20 million, the film earned only a fraction of that back. It became one of the most notable flops of its time and even contributed to the decline of its distributor.

But its failure had an unexpected impact. After watching the film alongside another poorly received musical, a viewer named John Wilson created a parody award show to call out bad movies, per Remind Magazine. That idea became the Golden Raspberry Awards.

At the very first ceremony in 1981, Can’t Stop the Music won two major titles, making history as one of the original Razzie winners.

Still, not everything about the film was a failure. Its soundtrack performed better than the movie itself, reaching the Top 10 in several countries and even hitting No. 1 in Australia. Over time, the film gained a new life as a “campy” favorite, something people enjoy for its over-the-top style and fun energy.

Today, the film is remembered as both a cautionary tale and a time capsule of the disco era. In Australia, it has even become a quirky New Year’s Eve tradition, showing just how far its reputation has come.

What Is Connections Sports Edition?

Connections Sports Edition is just like the regular Connections word puzzle, in that it's a game that resets at 12 a.m. EST each day and has 16 different words listed. It's up to you to figure out each group of four words that belong to a certain category, with four categories in total.

This new version is sports-specific, however, as a partnership between The New York Times and The Athletic.

As the NYT site instructs, for Connections Sports Edition, you "group sports terms that share a common thread."

With daily themes and "spangrams" to discover, this is the latest addictive game to cross off your to-do list before a new one pops up 24 hours later.

How to Play Strands

According to the New York Times, here's exactly how to play Strands:

Find theme words to fill the board.

• Theme words stay highlighted in blue when found.
• Drag or tap letters to create words. If tapping, double-tap the last letter to submit.
• Theme words fill the board entirely. No theme words overlap.

Find the “spangram.”

• The spangram describes the puzzle's theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. It may be two words.
• The spangram highlights in yellow when found.
• An example spangram with corresponding theme words: PEAR, FRUIT, BANANA, APPLE, etc.

Need a hint?

• Find non-theme words to get hints.
• For every three non-theme words you find, you earn a hint.
• Hints show the letters of a theme word. If there is already an active hint on the board, a hint will show that word's letter order.
