Cold Stone Creamery’s New Dubai Chocolate Ice Cream Creation Is Here—But Not for Long
Cold Stone Creamery is dropping what it calls a "one-of-a-kind dessert experience," but it will only be on menus for one month.
In the past, the 38-year-old global ice cream chain has jumped on other hot flavors, offering its own limited-edition takes, leaving fans to enjoy special treats like its version of the iconic Choco Taco and Red Velvet Cake Batter ice cream. This time around, Cold Stone is churning up something even more indulgent, its own take on the viral Dubai Chocolate trend.
"We're always looking to bring exciting flavors to our guests," Courtney Maxedon, vice president of marketing and digital strategy at Kahala Brands (the parent company of Cold Stone Creamery), shared in a statement on Wednesday, adding, "Our Dubai Chocolate Creation is rich, unique, and layered with texture, perfect for those wanting to treat themselves to something a little extra."
Cold Stone Creamery Calls Its New Dubai Chocolate Creation a ‘One-Of-A-Kind Dessert'The popular chocolate-pistachio-flavored dessert is everywhere, from the shelves of luxe chocolatiers like Lindt and Ghirardelli to those of household staple brands like Baskin-Robbins, Hershey's, Starbucks, and Trader Joe's. And now, a unique version of it is landing at Cold Stone Creamery locations nationwide—and no, this is not an April Fools' Day joke; the announcement just so happened to come on April 1.

Duo Ranked 'Most Iconic Celebrity Couple of the 1970s' Had Tabloids Going Wild
You likely remember Farrah Fawcett and Raquel Welch as some of America's most stunning stars back in the '70s. But do you recall the men they were spotted with? When it comes to the celebrity couples of the '70s, there was an endless array of tabloid mainstays. However, a few classics ruled the roost. According to The List's new ranking, "The Most Iconic Celebrity Couples Of The 1970s, Ranked," ten of our favorite '70s couples topped the list. Step into our time machine and check out a couple of our favorites featured in the ranking.

The List cites Namath and Raquel as one of their top tabloid-spotted celebrity couples of the '70s for good reason. One of the hottest football players in the world in the '70s, "Broadway Joe" played 13 seasons in the NFL, primarily with the New York Jets. But he also built a successful acting career during the '70s, and appeared on beloved TV shows like The Love Boat.
As for Welch, who skyrocketed to fame in the role of Loana the Fair One in One Million Years B.C., she won a Golden Globe in 1973 for her role in The Three Musketeers. In her memoir, Beyond the Cleavage, she referenced her many loves through the decades, saying, "I'm not the kiss-and-tell kind, but to save you racking your brain over which of my leading men I spent personal time with, I'll narrow it down for you. Let's see if you can guess which ones made me weak in the knees." The tabloids went wild!

It has been almost 53 years since his series, The Six Million Dollar Man, hit the airwaves, but Lee Majors will always be a TV icon. The actor also scored plenty of mentions in the tabloids for his relationship with Farrah Fawcett, who rose to stardom alongside Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson on the original Charlie’s Angels series, which ran for 115 episodes from 1976 to 1981.
The duo was the ultimate couple of the '70s, but chaotic schedules caused their marriage to break down.
"There was a year or so when I think I saw her two weeks in one year," Majors told People in 2019. "It's very difficult with careers like that. This business is tough. Working 14 hours a day, both of you, and the days went by."
Tragically, Fawcett was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006. While she was given a clean bill of health in 2007, her cancer returned a few months later. Doctors told her it had metastasized to her liver, and she died in 2009. However, her legacy lives on in the Farrah Fawcett Foundation.
Majors is still going strong. In a recent Instagram carousel posted to Bionic Woman star Lindsay Wagner’s page, scroll over to the fifth photo to see the actress reunited with Majors himself. Now 86, Majors smiled alongside his frequent co-star, whose series was a spinoff of The Six Million Dollar Man.

On This Day in 1976, TV Audiences Were Horrified by the TV Movie 'Helter Skelter'
On April 1, 1976, television viewers were introduced to Charles Manson's "family" in the CBS two-part movie, Helter Skelter.
The film focused on the police investigation and the courtroom drama, highlighting the Manson Family's brutal crimes and the Tate-LaBianca murders that took place over two days in 1969.
On the night of August 9, 1969, Manson instructed three of his female followers, Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Leslie Van Houten, to go to the home of actress Sharon Tate and her husband, director Roman Polanski, and kill everyone inside. The women carried out the murders, killing Tate and four of her friends: Wojciech Frykowski, Abigail Folger, Steven Parent, and Jay Sebring.
The next evening, Manson's followers struck again. Their victims were Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, California grocery store owners. “Helter Skelter,” a song by the Beatles, was scrawled on their refrigerator in blood. Donald “Shorty” Shea was also a victim of the family's murderous spree in late August 1969. Manson was arrested two months later in Death Valley, California.

HBO Max Announces NFL Update for Popular Show
HBO Max has officially revealed a major NFL update for its long-running sports docuseries, confirming that the Seattle Seahawks will headline the next edition of Hard Knocks: Training Camp ahead of the 2026 season.
The announcement was first teased on Instagram, where HBO Max posted: "The champs open their doors this summer. Hard Knocks Training Camp with the Seahawks premieres this August on HBO Max."
The Seahawks quickly responded in the comments, writing, "Let’s go!! 🙌"
According to multiple reports, the new season is set to premiere on August 11 at 9 p.m. EDT, with fresh episodes airing weekly through Sept. 8. The show will once again deliver an all-access look inside an NFL team’s training camp, giving fans a closer view of players, coaches and key decisions leading into the season.
View this post on Instagram Seahawks Bring Star Power to ‘Hard Knocks’ 2026 SeasonThe inclusion of the Seahawks marks a historic moment for the franchise and the series. This will be the team’s first appearance on Hard Knocks, which is now in its 26th year. It also makes Seattle the first Super Bowl-winning team to be featured on the show since the Baltimore Ravens appeared in 2001.
The upcoming season will spotlight head coach Mike Macdonald, quarterback Sam Darnold, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and defensive standouts Devon Witherspoon and Byron Murphy II. According to UPI, veteran narrator Liev Schreiber will return to guide viewers through the story.
Seattle’s appearance comes at a time when the team is going through major changes. Several key players from their championship run have left in free agency, including Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III, along with Coby Bryant, Boye Mafe, Riq Woolen and Dareke Young.
The Seahawks were previously exempt from appearing on Hard Knocks due to an NFL rule that allowed teams to opt out if they made the playoffs in the previous two seasons. However, that rule was changed last year, opening the door for Seattle’s participation.
The announcement also included a long-term update for the series. The New England Patriots are expected to be featured in the 2027 edition of Hard Knocks.
The Seahawks’ selection follows their dominant 29-13 victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl LX, a game that helped boost their national profile. With their championship win and a season-opening game already scheduled for Sep. 9, Seattle is set to receive even more attention from fans and media.

1976 No. 1 Hit That Peaked for 5 Weeks Came Paired With ‘Worst Song’ Ever
Wings at the Speed of Sound served hit after hit. But there’s one track that didn’t necessarily bring the heat.
“Cook of the House,” released as the B-side to the standout “Silly Love Songs” on Wings’ 1976 album, was just named the worst track on the record.
View this post on Instagram“This is the only Wings song to feature main vocals by the former Linda Eastman, a photographer by trade before meeting Paul McCartney,” Ultimate Classic Rock writes. “For a singer, she was an outstanding photographer. But the real tragedy of this '50s-styled rocker is its blatant misogyny.”
Wings was Paul McCartney’s second band after The Beatles broke up. Formed in 1971, the original group was made up of McCartney and his wife, Linda, guitarist Denny Laine and drummer Denny Seiwell. The McCartneys wrote “Cook of the House,” with Linda stepping up to the mic.
“Linda McCartney was an incredibly talented artist being asked to do something outside of that talent,” UCR writes. “Then she ends up singing a song about ... making dinner, complete with a frankly annoying itemized list of spices and ingredients. (And dig those real bacon frying sounds!) Linda McCartney certainly played along, and even received co-songwriting credit. But it's all pretty sad.”
The outlet’s opinion echoes critics of yore, as the track was famously panned in the media. Rolling Stone called it a “celebration of scatterbrained wife-in-the-kitchen coziness,” while Entertainment Weekly described it as a “simpleminded domestic anthem.” Yikes.
Still, McCartney’s biographer, Chris Welch, said the song was “one of the most popular items" on the record.
According to The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, a New York Times bestseller written by Paul, inspiration for the song came from a good place.
“‘No matter where I serve my guests, they seem to like the kitchen best’. That was a sign in the kitchen of a house we were renting somewhere; I seem to remember it was Australia, probably during the Wings Over the World tour before our son James was born. So it would have been Linda, Heather, Mary, Stella and me all staying together,” he shares.
“That was a fun thing Linda remembered -- and this is basically Linda’s song with a bit of help from me. At this time, in Wings, everyone in the band had a song on the album, so this was hers from At the Speed of Sound. Sometimes with a song you just look around and you name all the stuff you can see, and in this case she went round all the spices -- cinnamon, garlic, curry powder -- because, as a family, we spent a lot of time in the kitchen getting our hands dirty. Linda was a very good cook and loved feeding our family and friends, so it was fitting that her song would be ‘Cook of the House.’”
The song was saved by its companion piece, “Silly Love Songs,” which was released as a single and backed by “Cook of the House.” It topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for five nonconsecutive weeks. It also tops UCR’s list of the best and worst songs on the record.
“The song was, in a way, to answer people who just accuse me of being soppy,” McCartney said via Billboard. “The nice payoff now is that a lot of the people I meet who are at the age where they've just got a couple of kids and have grown up a bit, settling down, they'll say to me, ‘I thought you were really soppy for years, but I get it now! I see what you were doing! By the way, ‘Silly Love Songs’ also had a good bassline and worked well live.”
The McCartneys’ double-edged response to critics became the biggest song of 1976 and marked Paul’s 27th No. 1 as a songwriter.

Does Drinking Water During Meals Help or Hurt Your Digestion? Here’s What Gastroenterologists Say
You want to feel full, satisfied and at your peak after meals. To do that, you'll want to take steps to jump-start digestion from the moment the food hits your mouth. But does drinking water during meals help or hurt your digestion? It's a good question.
"Understanding what helps or harms digestion is crucial for your overall well-being. Your digestive system is responsible for breaking down the food you eat into the nutrients your body needs to function," states Dr. Rosario Ligresti, MD, the chief of Gastroenterology for Hackensack University Medical Center. "When digestion is working well, you can feel your best. When it's not, it can lead to uncomfortable symptoms like bloating, gas and constipation and can impact your energy levels and even your mood."
Indeed, bloating and gas likely aren't on your daily to-do list. Yet, there's a rumor floating around that water can dilute digestive enzymes and contribute to all of the above. Generally speaking.
"[Drinking water during meals] is commonly talked about, and a lot of the information out there tends to be mixed or misleading," says Dr. Andrew H. Moore, MD, a gastroenterologist with Swedish Hospital and Endeavor Health.
Dr. Moore also understands that people experiencing indigestion and uncomfortable GI symptoms during or after meals may want to make a change. Not drinking water during meals seems like an easy (and free) solution to digestive issues. But is it worth trying? GI doctors discuss whether drinking water during meals aids or negatively impacts digestion and why.

What Happens to the Body When You Digest FoodDigestion is about so much more than your gut.
"Digestion is a full-body team effort that starts before food even hits your stomach," says Dr. Rucha Shah, MD, an HonorHealth gastroenterologist. "The moment you see or smell food, your brain signals your salivary glands [in the mouth] to start producing saliva, which contains an enzyme called amylase that begins breaking down carbohydrates right there in your mouth."
Dr. Shah says that when you chew, you mechanically break down food into tinier pieces and mix it with saliva. Then, you swallow.
"Swallowing sends food down the esophagus in a wave-like muscular motion called peristalsis," she explains. "This takes about eight to 10 seconds."
Next up, the food enters your stomach—a highly acidic environment. Dr.Shah says stomach acid (hydrochloric acid) has a pH of 1.5 to 3.5.
"The stomach physically churns food while enzymes like pepsin break down proteins," she explains.
It takes over two to four hours, and your body produces a semi-liquid called chyme. Then, the food travels to the small intestine.
"This is where the real nutrient absorption happens," Dr. Shah says. "Chyme mixes with bile from the liver—which breaks down fat—and digestive enzymes from the pancreas. Nutrients—vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, proteins, fats—are absorbed through the intestinal walls into the bloodstream."
Dr. Shah says water gets reabsorbed in the large intestine, and eventually, you poop out what's left 10 to 59 hours after eating.
"The entire process involves over 30 feet of digestive tract, multiple organs, hundreds of enzymes and trillions of gut bacteria," Dr. Shah says. "It's remarkably sophisticated and remarkably adaptable."
So, does water help the digestion process or hurt it?
Related: The Best Carb for Aging and Gut Health, According to Dietitians
Does Drinking Water During Meals Help or Hurt Digestion?"The short answer: Water is your digestive system's best friend—and drinking it during meals is both safe and beneficial for most people," Dr. Shah says.
GI doctors explain that the benefits of drinking water with meals include:
- Water helps food go down easier. Forget the spoonful of sugar. Try a glass of water to help the food go down more easily. "Initially, water helps to propel food down the esophagus into the stomach," Dr. Moore states.
- It softens food. Dr. Ligresti notes that water makes it easier for the stomach to break down food and your body to absorb the nutrients. "Think of it like adding water to a thick soup to make it easier to stir and process," he says.
- It protects you from constipation. Dr. Moore reports that your colon is responsible for absorbing excess fluid from the stomach. "A lack of hydration can lead to more liquid being reabsorbed from the stool, thus resulting in firm, hard stools and constipation," Dr. Moore says.
- It helps you eat more slowly. Meals aren't a 100-yard dash. "Sipping water between bites naturally creates pause time," Dr. Shah says. "This gives you a moment to check in with your hunger and fullness signals, which can prevent overeating and allow more mindful chewing to help the brain understand satiety."
- It supports nutrient absorption. "Water helps dissolve vitamins, minerals and other nutrients from your food, allowing your body to absorb them more effectively," Dr. Ligresti adds.
That said, drinking water during meals can have some pitfalls.
"For the vast majority of people, drinking water with meals is not harmful," Dr. Ligresti says. "However, in a few specific instances, you might want to be mindful."
One of these instances? If you have GERD.
"For some individuals with GERD, drinking large amounts of any liquid with meals can increase stomach volume and pressure, potentially worsening reflux symptoms," Dr. Ligresti tells Parade.
He also says you may feel overly full after drinking water.
"If you find that drinking a lot of water with meals makes you feel uncomfortably full or bloated, it's perfectly fine to drink smaller sips or to drink more between meals," he adds.

Does Drinking Water During Meals Dilute Enzymes?TL;DR: No, this rumor is untrue. "The idea that it dilutes digestive juices to the point of hindering digestion is a myth," Dr. Ligresti states. "Your stomach is incredibly efficient at regulating its environment."
Dr. Shah isn't a fan of this myth either. "This is the big myth I want to bust," Dr. Shah says. "People worry water 'dilutes' stomach acid and enzymes. Your stomach contents are constantly monitored—it adjusts its secretions based on what's in there. It's remarkably adaptable. In fact, your stomach itself secretes water as part of the digestion process, because these enzymes need water to function."

How Much Water Should You Drink During Meals? There's not a magic number, but it doesn't have to be a big one.
"Substantial amounts are not needed. Just a simple eight-ounce glass of water alone throughout a meal is likely sufficient," Dr. Moore says. "Drinking too much water or drinking water too quickly during meals may cause bloating or abdominal discomfort in some."
And yes, carbonated water counts. "Carbonated water provides most of the same hydration benefits as still water with meals—it helps move food along, supports enzyme function and prevents overeating," Dr. Shah tells Parade.
Still, Dr. Shah says there are some caveats. "The carbonation itself—those CO2 bubbles— directly introduces gas into your digestive tract. For people prone to bloating, belching or IBS, this can make symptoms meaningfully worse," she explains. "Still water is always the best choice. Sparkling water is a fine alternative for most people."

3 More Ways To Support DigestionBesides drinking water, GI doctors say there are several ways to support your gut health and digestion. Below, they share more tips to keep food flowing through your GI tract.
1. Chew your food more thoroughlyDr. Shah says most people chew five to seven times before swallowing. She says 20 to 30 chews per bite, especially for harder food, is best.
"The more you chew, the more surface area you create for digestive enzymes to work on in your stomach," she explains. "Swallowing large chunks of food means your stomach has to work harder and longer, which is a common cause of bloating, gas and that heavy post-meal feeling. Chewing more is free, requires no supplements and makes a real difference."
2. Get moving post-mealsA "fart walk" isn't just a silly idea for a TikTok era. Walking after meals can help digestion.
"Gentle exercise, like walking, can help stimulate the natural contractions of your intestinal muscles, moving food along your digestive tract," Dr. Ligresti says. "This can help prevent bloating and constipation."
3. Keep drinking waterDon't let your last bite also be your last sip. Dr. Moore encourages people to drink water throughout the day.
"Water is key for the production and function of digestive enzymes, as well as helping to keep stool soft and prevent constipation," Dr. Moore reports. "While individual needs vary, most people need at a minimum 64 to 88 fluid ounces of water per day. Some people with heart, liver or kidney issues may require less, so be sure to discuss this with your doctor."

Millions of Americans Are Now Eligible for Canadian Citizenship—These Are the Best Areas to Consider
Recently, a major revision in Canadian law suddenly made millions of Americans eligible to seek Canadian citizenship through ancestry. For decades, Canadian citizenship by descent was limited by a rule known as the first‑generation limit, which meant only children born abroad to Canadian citizens could inherit citizenship. That rule has now been removed for people born before December 15, 2025, opening the door for those whose parents, grandparents, and possibly even great‑grandparents were Canadian to apply for recognition of citizenship and a Canadian passport. This is a huge shift in North American mobility and it matters for travelers, border hoppers, students, and anyone who likes flexibility in their travel planning.
The rule change came from Bill C‑3, formally known as “An Act to Amend the Citizenship Act,” which received royal assent and entered into force in December 2025. It responds to earlier court decisions that found the first‑generation restriction unconstitutional, and it has sparked a sharp increase in citizenship interest from people in the United States.
Adventure starts with a click—sign up for our newsletter for travel tips and stories.
What the New Rules Mean for TravelersBefore this law, your Canadian heritage might have stayed a fun travel anecdote without practical effect on your passport situation. Now, many people with ancestors born or naturalized in Canada can document and restore Canadian citizenship. That is not just a legal status, it is a passport that expands your travel horizon.
Canada’s passport is ranked globally as strong, and Canadian citizens can enjoy visa‑free or visa‑on‑arrival entry into dozens of countries around the world. For travelers who like spontaneity, that flexibility matters. A Canadian passport opens doors in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania that sometimes involve visas for U.S. passport holders.
Gaining Canadian citizenship does not automatically impose Canadian income tax unless you reside in Canada, meaning some who obtain citizenship may use it primarily for travel and mobility while living and working in the United States.

What You Need to Know Before You ApplyTo qualify for Canadian citizenship by descent under the new rules, you must document your lineage back to a Canadian ancestor. Typically this means presenting original or certified copies of birth certificates, marriage records, and any other proof that connects you to a relative who was a Canadian citizen.
If your ancestor was born outside Canada but inherited Canadian citizenship themselves, the same rules apply as long as you were born before December 15, 2025. After that date, a new “substantial connection” requirement applies, where a Canadian parent must have lived in Canada for at least three years before a child’s birth to pass citizenship. Current processing times are about 11 months, meaning applicants should plan well ahead of any travel that depends on citizenship status.
Once you receive proof of citizenship, you can then apply for a Canadian passport through standard channels. The rights of Canadian citizenship include the ability to enter, exit, live, work, and vote in Canada.

1995 Hit Ranked Among the ‘Greatest Romantic Comedies of All Time’ Became a Career-Defining Classic—But it Almost Didn’t Happen
In 1995, moviegoers were introduced to Clueless. The modern-day adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel Emma starred Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz, a matchmaking Beverly Hills high schooler with a heart of gold who finds an unlikely love at the film’s end.
Clueless, which also starred Paul Rudd, Dan Hedaya, Stacey Dash, and Brittany Murphy, became a career-defining performance for Silverstone and a worthy teen comedy follow-up to Heckerling’s Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
In 2025, Vanity Fairranked Clueless at No. 3 on its list of the 42 greatest romanticcomedies of all time. The only two films that ranked above it were the unstoppable Nora Ephron classics When Harry Met Sally and You’ve Got Mail.
Vanity Fair described Silvertone’s breakout performance as “generation-defining," noting, “There would be no [Mean Girls] Regina George without Cher.” “Clueless still stands sturdily in its platform sneakers as one of the best of the genre—of several genres, in fact. Has there ever been a better teen comedy? As if,” the outlet raved.
‘Clueless’ had a hard time finding its footingClueless raked in over $56 million worldwide, per Box Office Mojo, and it found a new life on video, TV, and streaming platforms. But the Gen X-Millennial transition film almost didn’t happen.
Silverstone wasn’t initially sold on the part. “I found Cher on the page to be materialistic and unappealing. And really annoying, to be honest,” she told Vogue in a 2020 interview. “But I realized that was just me judging her. Once I started working on her I found all the heart and all the love.”

In addition to Silverstone's reservations, Heckerling’s script was rejected by 20th Century Fox, and subsequent pitches to rival studios were also shot down.
“The entire industry said no,” Heckerling recalled, per The Guardian. Once legendary producer Scott Rudin backed the film idea, a bidding war ensued, and Paramount Pictures ultimately distributed the film.
The movie was released in July 1995, but Heckerling was still unsure of it.
“I didn’t feel like it was like a big [hit] at the time,” she admitted. “I have friends that are [male] movie directors, and they have hits that are gigantic. I mean, Animal House and Beverly Hills Cop andGhostbusters, those are big money-making movies. And Clueless did not make that much. It was a hit, but it wasn’t in every theater like that.”

The film changed Alicia Silverstone’s lifeSilverstone, who was just 17 when she filmed Clueless, also reflected on the film’s success—and the naysayers who doubted it.
”Yes, it changed my life,” she told Variety in 2017. “One studio said no to it. They didn’t think anyone was interested in watching a movie about a young girl. They were like, ‘We don’t think anybody is going to care. It’s not going to sell tickets.'”
“Those people now kick themselves that they were not part of that film,” the Clueless star added.
Jim Carrey's Ex Defends the Actor Following Viral Clone Conspiracy Rumors
In early March,Jim Carrey went viral on social media following his appearance at the César Awards in Paris. While many began speculating conspiracy theories of the actor being someone else, even a clone, his ex,Jenny McCarthy, knew right away it was really him.
The actor has kept a low profile over the years, but made headlines after having been given the Honorary César Award, which he accepted with a speech entirely spoken in French. Photos of the actor went viral as many commented on the change in his appearance, which looked like and didn't look like the Ace Ventura star they know. Rumors started to circulate online of Carrey being a clone or having been replaced by a body double.
Rumors continued as makeup artist Alexis Stone added fuel to the fire by posting a prosthetic mask of the actor's face. As a result, the César Award president and Carrey's publicist confirmed it really was the actor.
For McCarthy, she did not doubt that the person on the red carpet was her comedian ex. She gave her two cents in a quote to People and said, "It was definitely Jim Carrey."
The John Tucker Must Die actor also commented on another aspect of that night that many people overlooked. To her, Carrey looked incredibly happy to be at the event and to be given the award.
"He looked very happy at that award show," McCarthy said at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on March 26. "And I was happy for him. That's the first thing I noticed. I said, 'Oh wow, Jim looks really happy.'"

Her husband, New Kids on the Block's Donnie Wahlberg, also agreed. He also commented on the upsetting reality of the internet, focusing more on someone's looks than on realizing someone's feelings.
"You know, that's the part that, sadly, people miss, We're so obsessed with how he looks that we didn't consider how happy he looked," he said.
Carrey hasn't publicly come out to speak on the viral theories, and was only reported to have addressed them through his long-time publicist. The actor and McCarthy dated for five years from 2005 to 2010, before calling it quits. McCarthy stated they ended the relationship amicably, and it simply stopped being fun.
Grammy-Winning Music Legend Marvin Gaye Was Killed by His Father 42 Years Ago Today
Marvin Gaye’s untimely death shook the music world on April 1, 1984.
The R&B and soul singer rose to fame in the 1960s with hit singles such as “How Sweet It Is (to Be Loved by You)” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” His success continued into the 1970s and 1980s with his iconic album What’s Going On (as well as its title track), “Let’s Get It On” and “Sexual Healing,” for which he won two Grammy Awards.
Prior to achieving music stardom, Gaye experienced a difficult childhood due to his minister father Marvin Gay Sr.’s abuse. The Motown singer described his dad as “a very peculiar, changeable, cruel and all-powerful king” in interviews published in David Ritz’s 1985 biography, Divided Soul: The Life of Marvin Gaye.
“Even though winning his love was the ultimate goal of my childhood, I defied him,” Gaye said. “I hated his attitude. I thought I could win his love through singing, so I sang my heart out.”
Gaye also addressed his father’s violent tendencies and his desire to defend himself, noting, “I wanted to strike back, but where I come from, even to raise your hand to your father is an invitation for him to kill you.”
Despite his triumphs in the music industry, Gaye struggled with depression and drug use. In early 1984, he moved in with his parents in Los Angeles, where fighting among the family was frequent.
An April 1, 1984, altercation between Gaye and Gay turned fatal when the father began yelling at his wife, Alberta, in their son’s bedroom. Gaye demanded that his dad leave his room and followed him into the hallway, where he “pushed the father around pretty good,” according to police at the time. Gay then returned to his son’s bedroom with a gun previously gifted to him by the singer, shooting Gaye once in the shoulder and once in the heart.

Gaye was pronounced dead at California Hospital Medical Center one day shy of his 45th birthday. After his April 8 funeral, his body was cremated, and his ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean.
Although Los Angeles prosecutors initially charged Gay with murder, he claimed self-defense, with noticeable bruises found on his body after the fight. Gay, then 71, also had a brain tumor, which his attorneys planned to argue impaired his judgment. Cocaine found in Gaye’s body in a toxicology screening after his death and his mother’s refusal to testify factored into the viability of the case too.
As a result, Gay accepted a plea deal five months after his son’s death, pleading no contest to voluntary manslaughter. While the charge carried a maximum of 13 years in prison, Gay was ultimately sentenced to six years of probation.
“I wish he could step through the door right now,” Gay said of his son at the time. “I loved him. I love him right now.”
Fourteen years after the tragedy, Gay died in October 1998 after developing pneumonia at a California retirement home. He was 84.

Frankie Muniz Reveals the One Prop He Kept From 'Malcolm in the Middle' Were His Character's Roller Skates
It's common practice for actors and crew members to keep a specific prop of sentimental value after filming on a movie or TV show officially wraps.
But it's always interesting hearing which items in particular certain actors choose to hold on to as the years go by, illustrating a surprising connection to cherished moments in each performer's respective careers.
For Frankie Muniz, said object took the form of a pair of roller skates worn by his character in Malcolm in the Middle. Interestingly, according to a new video featuring Muniz and his fellow cast, this prop was the only item the 40-year-old actor and race car driver chose to keep from the series.
The video in question found Muniz and his Malcolm in the Middle co-stars Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson, Emy Coligado and Justin Berfield rewatching key scenes from the original 2000s-era series.
When watching the popular "Rollerskates" episode from Malcolm in the Middle's first season, Muniz referred to the episode as one of his favorites from the show, as well as revealing that he managed to hang on to the skates after filming had wrapped.
"It's the only thing I actually kept from the show," Muniz said. "I have the roller skates from the 'Rollerskates' episode."
"I've got mine too," Cranston similarly revealed.
"Do they still fit?" Kaczmarek went on to humorously ask Muniz.
"We should pull them out and just roller skate around," Cranston joked.
As they watched Cranston's on-screen roller skating routine as Hal from the series, Masterson asked the Breaking Bad actor about the logistics behind the scene.
"Bryan, how long did you train for this?" Masterson asked.
"I think I had a week," Cranston said.
Humorously, Kaczmarek said that Cranston was always offering to do difficult scenes for the sake of the show.
"He was always volunteering to do different difficult things," Kaczmarek added.
"They would often come to me and say, 'How do you feel about putting 10,000 bees on you?'" Cranston recalled. "'How do you feel about being in blue paint?'"
7 States Where Farmers Markets Rule—And 5 Where Fast Food Is the Only Choice: America’s Diets, Ranked
Eating clean in America can be a zip code lottery. It’s easy to say “eat healthy foods” but that’s a tough sell when you’re driving past three Taco Bells to find a wilted head of lettuce. A new deep-dive into CDC data just mapped out the winners and losers of the American dinner table, and the results expose the truth about food deserts.
It turns out, what you eat is more than your willpower. It’s about your map.
Vermont is currently the champion of the produce aisle. The state ranks #1 for vegetable consumption and #1 for farmers markets per capita. In places like Montpelier, fresh food is the default setting. Joining them at the top are states like Massachusetts and Connecticut, where the local harvest is part of the culture.
New York sits at #4 overall, mostly because the state has the lowest fast-food density in the country. It’s harder to fall into a burger bender when you’re surrounded by bodegas and corner markets instead of 24-hour drive-thrus.
The Farmer’s Market Leaders:
- Vermont: The undisputed king of greens.
- Connecticut: #1 in the nation for daily fruit intake.
- Minnesota: Leading the pack by ditching sugary drinks.
- Colorado: The lowest obesity rate in the U.S.
On the flip side, fast food states aren't struggling because they love grease. They’re struggling because of a lack of options. In West Virginia, which sits at the bottom of the list, high rates of obesity and diabetes are baked into the landscape.
Arkansas takes the hit for the highest sugary drink consumption and massive food insecurity. When you’re stressed, tired, and short on cash, a 99-cent soda is the easiest dopamine hit available. It’s a survival tactic, not a character flaw.
Michael Banis, a spokesperson for Eating Disorder Solutions, sees this disconnect every day. “From what I see in my work, healthy eating in the U.S. is less about knowledge and more about consistency,” Banis said in a statement. “Most people understand what a healthy meal looks like, but daily routines, stress, and convenience often get in the way. When people are tired or busy, they tend to fall back on quick options, which are usually higher in sugar, salt, and processed ingredients.”
The Hidden Trap of "Normal" EatingAmericans don't need to be eating exclusively out of a deep fryer to be at risk. The most dangerous habits are the ones that look normal in a busy culture. Skipping lunch and then inhaling a massive takeout dinner? That’s the real villain.
“Unhealthy eating patterns are very common, and they don’t always look extreme. It can be something as simple as skipping meals, relying too much on takeout, or drinking sugary beverages every day. Over time, these habits build up and can affect both physical and mental health.”
How to Hack the SystemIf you live in a state where fast food tops the charts, the goal isn't perfection. It’s about the art of the swap. Banis argues that even one small change, water instead of soda, or one home-cooked meal a week, can break the cycle.
“A healthy diet does not have to be complicated or expensive. Small changes can make a big difference. It is about building habits that people can stick to, not trying to be perfect. What matters most is balance and sustainability.”
The Bottom 5 (Where Access is the Issue):
- West Virginia: Highest obesity and diabetes rates.
- Arkansas: The capital of sugar-sweetened drinks.
- Louisiana: High blood pressure and limited fresh produce.
- Mississippi: Struggling with food insecurity and obesity.
- Kentucky: High heart disease and low fruit intake.
Whether you’re in a Vermont co-op or an Oklahoma drive-thru line, the next meal is a clean slate.
Popular Tourist Destination Just Named the Number One Spot in the U.S. for Shark Attacks— But Here's What Travelers Should Know
There is a certain kind of beach day that lives in our imagination. Warm sand, gentle waves, maybe a good book and a frozen drink within reach. And then there is the other version, the one that quietly creeps in once you have read enough headlines about shark encounters. According to data compiled by World Population Review, one state consistently ranks above all others for shark attacks in the United States.
Florida’s reputation as the “shark bite capital” is backed by decades of data. The state leads the nation year after year, largely due to its long coastline, warm waters, and sheer number of people in the ocean.
Adventure starts with a click—sign up for our newsletter for travel tips and stories.
Why Florida Leads the Nation in Shark AttacksFlorida’s top ranking is not about danger in the way people often assume. It is about probability. With more than 1,300 miles of coastline and millions of annual visitors, Florida simply has more people in the water than almost anywhere else in the U.S. More swimmers, surfers, and waders means more chances for encounters.
The numbers tell the story clearly. Florida has recorded hundreds more shark attacks than any other state, with nearly 1,000 documented incidents since the late 1800s. Other states like Hawaii, California, and South Carolina trail far behind.
And yet, here is the part that often gets lost. Most of these incidents are non-fatal. Experts consistently emphasize that shark bites are rare and usually not life-threatening. In other words, Florida is number one, but not necessarily the most dangerous in the way your imagination might suggest.

The Real Hotspot: Where Shark Encounters Actually HappenIf Florida is the headline, then Volusia County is the fine print that matters. This stretch of coastline along Florida’s Atlantic side includes New Smyrna Beach, often called the shark bite capital of the world. It has recorded more incidents than any other single beach globally.
The reasons are surprisingly specific. The area is popular with surfers, and it also happens to be a place where bait fish gather. That combination creates a perfect overlap between humans and sharks. Recent data from the International Shark Attack File shows that Florida continues to dominate yearly counts. In 2025 alone, the state accounted for roughly 44 percent of all U.S. shark bites.
Should Travelers Actually Be Worried? This is where things get interesting, especially if you are planning a beach vacation. Despite leading the country in shark attacks, the odds of being bitten are incredibly low. In fact, experts often point out that people are far more likely to be injured by everyday risks like rip currents or even lightning than by a shark.
Globally, shark attacks remain rare events. Even in years when numbers rise slightly, they still represent a tiny fraction of ocean activity. Personally, this is the section that grounded me. It is easy to let the idea of sharks take over your beach mindset. But the data tells a calmer story. Awareness matters far more than fear.

Smart Beach Habits Every Traveler Should KnowIf you are heading to Florida or any shark-active coastline, a few simple habits can dramatically reduce your risk:
- Avoid swimming at dawn or dusk, when sharks are most active.
- Stay in groups rather than venturing out alone.
- Keep an eye out for bait fish or diving birds, both of which can signal feeding activity nearby.
- Pay attention to local advisories. Many Florida beaches use flag systems to indicate water conditions, including the presence of marine life.
Fuel your wanderlust with our top travel stories—join our newsletter today.
The Paradox of ParadiseFlorida remains one of the most visited beach destinations in the world, and for good reason. The water is warm, the coastline is vast, and the experiences range from quiet coastal towns to lively, sun-soaked cities. And yet, it also holds this strange distinction. The place with the most shark encounters in the country is also one of the most beloved.
So yes, the number one state for shark attacks might make you hesitate for a second. I know it did for me. But it probably should not keep you on land.

The menu also leans into lighter fruit flavors with a Limeade Refresher and a Cherry Lime Ricky-style Refresher. And the Cherry Daydream Refresher, made with the black cherry syrup, oat milk, and sweet cream cold foam.

Fans are already reacting to the lineup, especially the return of some familiar flavors.
One wrote, "Make the marshmallow foam stay forever. They had it like 2 years ago, it is the BEST. It's so thick, and the flavor is sooo good."
Another added, "Ifykyk, we have had Oreo Coolata before. I have been waiting forever for it to be back."
And for those leaning toward the fruit side, one viewer shared, "Cherry daydream refresher, I will wait impatiently for that one."
While Dunkin' hasn't officially confirmed all the details, multiple sources are pointing to a late April rollout. If everything lands as expected, this could be one of the more talked-about menus heading into the summer season.

NFL Announces Update on Super Bowl LXIII
The NFL has officially announced that Las Vegas will host Super Bowl LXIII in 2029, bringing the league’s biggest event back to Allegiant Stadium just five years after its successful debut in the city.
The decision was confirmed after NFL team owners voted during a meeting in Phoenix.
“We’re excited to bring the Super Bowl back to Las Vegas and provide our fans another incredible experience in one of America’s greatest sport and entertainment destinations,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement.
The 2029 game will mark the second time Las Vegas hosts the Super Bowl. The city first held the event in 2024, when the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime at Allegiant Stadium.
Goodell pointed to that earlier success as a major reason for the league’s return.
“Super Bowl LVIII demonstrated the scale, energy and hospitality the city brings to global events, and we look forward to working alongside the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the Raiders and the community to deliver an even greater experience this time around,” he added.

The NFL’s decision reflects Las Vegas’ rapid rise as a sports hub. Once avoided by the league due to concerns about gambling, the city has become one of its most important locations.
League officials say the 2024 Super Bowl proved that Las Vegas can handle massive global events. That game attracted more than 330,000 visitors and generated over $1 billion in economic impact, according to local tourism leaders.
Raiders owner Mark Davis emphasized the teamwork behind the city’s success.
“It’s a testament to the Raiders, the LVCVA, civic leaders, the community, and the NFL working together as one,” Davis said, per NFL.com. “Super Bowl LVIII set a high bar, and for Super Bowl LXIII we are committed to raising it even further.”
Las Vegas is also preparing for a busy sports calendar leading up to 2029. Allegiant Stadium will host the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2027 and the Final Four in 2028. A new Major League Baseball stadium is also expected to open in 2028.
Still, Las Vegas continues to stand out for its ability to host large-scale events. As planning begins for 2029, the league is expected to build on the success of its first Las Vegas Super Bowl, with expanded fan experiences, community programs, and high-end hospitality offerings.
