1973 Career-Defining Classic Was a No. 1 Hit Song 53 Years Ago Today

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 3:14pm

Fifty-three years ago today, '70s singer and comedic actress Vicki Lawrence topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart with her hit song, "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia."

Released in November 1972, "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" became a massive pop-country crossover success. Upon its release, the track climbed to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, spending 14 weeks on the chart and holding the top position for two consecutive weeks.

The song was a significant commercial success, being certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after selling over one million copies. Its undeniable influence inspired several popular covers; notably, Reba McEntire recorded a 1991 rendition that peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, attesting to the track's long-term endurance.

Produced by Snuff Garrett via Bell Records, "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" is recognizable as a melancholic acoustic power ballad. The track incorporates spoken-word vocals, a driving baseline and sparse instrumentation to create a hauntingly atmospheric narrative experience.

Lawrence's then-husband, Bobby Russell, wrote the song as a cautionary tale about a corrupt justice system. The lyrics tell the story of the wrongful execution of a man accused of killing his wife and her secret lover. In a shocking twist at the end, it is revealed that the female narrator was the actual killer.

The engaging narrative, catchy hook and unexpected finale have made the track a persevering hit. On Spotify, the track has accumulated over 5.27 million streams, proving its lasting relevance in the digital era.

According to the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, Usrey was taken into custody Monday, March 30. The DWI charge is the singer’s second. A Class A misdemeanor in Texas, it can carry jail time, fines, and the suspension of the driver’s license for up to two years.

As for the felony charges, court documents show that Usrey was found with between 4 and 200 grams of fentanyl. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1/1-B. Per the news outlet, the 1-B designation specifically refers to fentanyl under Texas law.

The second felony charge pertains to possession of drugs in Penalty Group 2. This group includes stimulants and hallucinogens.

Altogether, Usrey could be facing up to 20 years in prison.

Following a meeting with the judge, who ordered an ignition lock device for Usrey’s vehicle, Usrey was released after posting $12,500 bail, Saving Country Music reports.

In 2023, Usrey released his debut album, Crossing Lines. It was followed by These Days two years later. The artist is booked to play at the Montgomery County Fair on April 11, Fiesta Oyster Bake on April 17, and Larry Joe Taylor’s Texas Music Festival on April 23, per People. All events are based in Texas.

Usrey also has Kid Rock’s Rock the Country even on May 2 booked.

Kid Rock’s roving music festival has seen its fair share of struggles so far. Due to multiple acts withdrawing from the event, the fest was forced to cancel at least one of its major stops, AXS TV reports. The two-day festival set for July 25 and 26 in South Carolina is officially off.

Award-Winning Actor, Whose Career Spans 29 Years, Turns 51

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 3:06pm

From crime dramas to the big screen, everyone has always loved Adam Rodríguez.

The actor, best known for his work on CSI: Miami and now Criminal Minds, is celebrating his 51st birthday on Thursday. Born and raised in Yonkers, New York, by a Puerto Rican/Cuban dad and mom, Rodríguez turned his attention to acting when he was a teenager. Initially, he hoped to be a professional baseball player, but a high school injury prevented him from pursuing that dream.

Throughout the 1990s, Rodríguez appeared in various films and TV shows, including The X-Files, Brooklyn South, Law & Order, Felicity, Roswell, NYPD Blue and was featured in music videos for multiple singers, including 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Jennifer Lopez and more. While taking those smaller acting gigs, Rodriguez worked as a stockbroker.

Rodríguez got his big break in 2002 when he joined the original cast of CSI: Miami alongside David Caruso and Emily Proctor. Playing Detective Eric Delko, the series was a spinoff of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and follows a team of forensic investigators with the Miami-Dade Police Department led by Lt. Horatio Caine (Caruso). The show aired for 10 seasons on CBS, and his role led him to win a Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Actor: Action and an ALMA Award in 2012.

Two years after CSI: Miami ended, the actor starred in Magic Mike alongside Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello and Matthew McConaughey. The comedy followed Adam (Pettyfer), who entered the male stripping industry after dropping out of college at 19 years old. Though Magic Mike is very different from his role on CSI: Miami, Rodriguez told NBC Latino in 2012 that the script had "depth and substance" and something he "really understood."

"I think there’s more story to this movie that people might expect," he told the publication. "At 19, I decided to become an actor. I was working as a stockbroker, and I had a moment where I was sitting in the office when I realized that I could spend the next 20 years in an office working away. No one in that office there looked happy and I knew working there was something I didn’t really want to do. I had to make a decision to leave and chase what I wanted. When I read the Magic Mike script, I realized that there were guys who didn’t have that moment of epiphany. And so being able to bring my experience to the story was really great."

Rodriguez returned for the two other installments for the Magic Mike series, released in 2015 and 2023, respectively, reprising his role as Tito.

Channing Tatum, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez, Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer pretend to take off their clothes during Warner Bros. Pictures presents The Big Picture during CinemaCon 2015 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on April 21, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Gabe Ginsberg/WireImage

Over the past few years, Rodriguez has been featured in many TV shows as a recurring character, including Jane the Virgin, Empire and Ordinary Joe. From 2016 to 2020 and from 2022 to now, he has starred as Luke Alvez in Criminal Minds, another police drama that has been airing on CBS since 2005.

All seasons of CSI: Miami and Criminal Minds can be streamed on Pluto or Hulu.

Sam’s Club Announces Membership Price Hike Starting Next Month—And Shoppers Raise Concerns

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 3:05pm

Warehouse shoppers are about to see a small but significant price jump at Sam’s Club.

The membership-based retailer, owned by Walmart, has announced it will raise its annual membership fee by $10, marking the latest change for customers who rely on the chain for bulk groceries, household essentials, and everyday deals.

The changes will go into effect starting May 1, according to a memo sent to Sam’s Club membership owners.

The basic membership to Sam’s Club will now cost $60, with the higher-tier option coming in at $120, which is a bump up from the current $50 for club members and $110 for Plus members.

Plus members will get a 2% increase in their Sam’s Cash rewards, with the change going from $500 to $750.

In a statement, the company said the increase is aimed at supporting improvements members already value, pointing to its wide product selection, expanded store hours, and upgrades to services like curbside pickup and delivery.

“We have adjusted our membership pricing to support the things our members love,” the company said in a statement shared with USA Today, emphasizing continued investment in “unbeatable value,” convenience and “exceptional shopping experience.”

The memo, sent to members, also noted that no action is required, with memberships renewing at the updated price during the next billing cycle.

The price hike follows a broader trend among warehouse clubs, where added perks and service enhancements are increasingly being used to justify rising membership costs.

It also comes on the heels of Sam’s Club’s prior announcement to open six new stores across the U.S. this year, including locations in Tennessee, California and Texas, per the outlet.

Sam’s Club members voiced their grievances on Reddit, with many stating that they’re still upset over the change that took away free shipping for Plus members.

“Got the same email and I honestly wouldn’t care if they still had free shipping for plus members. That change really bugged me when it happened," one stated, as anothed echoed, "Just got this, wouldn't even care if they hadn't put the minimum shipping requirements on Plus accounts. I'm already paying a premium and the minimum nonsense plus the increase I'll be canceling in Octobet before it renews."

A few others expressed their displeasure over losing the 9am-10am early shopping window, writing, "If they wanna overcharge Plus, at least give them something!”

“+20% increase is crazy,” someone else stated, as others chimed in, “Which is nuts considering how much money the memberships bring in" and taking aim at the quality, stating, “Haven’t they saved enough by tanking the quality of the members mark products.”

Others didn’t really understand what all the fuss was about, questioning, “Am I missing something? This is such a nominal increase. I don’t see a reason to complain.”

“I figured it's.027 cents more a day. 🙂 I can afford.  Everything going up.  The other warehouse offered a cheaper price recently. I prefer Sam's.  The other place way too crowded etc.”

A handful of others suggested renewing early to “beat” the increase and pay the old price for the upcoming year.

While others acknowledged it was a “small increase in the grand scheme of things,” other shoppers pointed out that “They have already upped the prices on many items - which I totally understand in this economy. However, when they increase costs but offer less there is a problem.”

The last time Sam’s Club  raised their annual fees since was Oct. 2022, when they went from $45 to $50 for basic and $100 to $110 for Plus.

What do you think about the $10 membership hike?

Who Won 'Jeopardy' Today? (April 2, 2026) Plus, the Final Jeopardy Answer

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 3:00pm

There are three things guaranteed in the world today: Death, taxes, and Jeopardy! being on. Believe it or not, the iconic game show has been on the air for over 60 years (though the modern incarnation we know and love technically debuted in 1984). Under the watchful eye of Ken Jennings (who himself was a record-breaking champion), Jeopardy! puts three people's trivia skills and reflexes to the ultimate test. And so many of the greats to grace those podiums started by simply watching the show as it aired on weekdays, as millions have done for over half a century.

Here's a spoiler-filled recap of who won Jeopardy! today, plus the answer to Final Jeopardy.

Who won Jeopardy today?Jamie Ding

Jamie Ding claimed his 15th consecutive Jeopardy! victory with a dominant $56,400 performance, bringing his total winnings to $428,000.

Who are the Jeopardy contestants today?Brian Chu

Brian Chu is a professor from Cary, North Carolina.

Nikki Svetov

Nikki Svetov is an entertainment strategist originally from Long Island, New York.

Jamie Ding

Jamie Ding is a bureaucrat and law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey, who continued to cement his place among the show’s all-time greats with yet another commanding performance and his 15th consecutive win.

Ding ended Thursday’s game with a final score of $56,400, his highest single-day total yet, with 15-day cumulative winnings of $428,000, drawing comparisons to legends like Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, James Holzhauer, and  Jennings himself. Thursday’s start was slow, but he found his rhythm quickly. His buzzer timing remains his superpower, as he got in first on a staggering 70.18% of attempts (40 out of 57 clues).

Ding lost $21,200 on the game's final Daily Double—reportedly the largest incorrect Daily Double wager in regular-season Jeopardy! history—but he had built such a commanding lead that it barely mattered.

Ding has now passed Harrison Whitaker in the Tournament of Champions tracker, all but guaranteeing himself a bye to the ToC semifinals.

What was Final Jeopardy today?

Final Jeopardy today was in the category "Historic Names."

The clue: "In 2025 France posthumously made this man who was "accused, humiliated & condemned" a brigadier general."

The answer: Who is Alfred Dreyfus?

A classic Jeopardy! topic, as the Dreyfus Affair is one of the most frequently referenced historical events in Final Jeopardy, though it didn’t make it easier for the contestants.

Ding wagered $25,200 and responded correctly ("Who was Dreyfus?”), going from $31,200 to $56,400. Chu and Svetov weren’t as lucky, with the former wagering $267 and responding incorrectly for a total of $2,533, while the latter wagered $0, did not respond and stayed at $400.

Had Ding gotten the last Daily Double correct on top of his Final Jeopardy success, we might have been looking at a new single-day record.

Ding will be back tomorrow for a chance at his 16th consecutive victory.

‘The Pitt’ Star Sepideh Moafi Reveals the Powerful Real-Life Story That Inspired Her Character (Exclusive)

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 2:57pm

There was a lot of side eye towards Baran Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) when she entered the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. The character was brought in for Season 2 of The Pitt as a new chief attending, tasked with serving as Robby's (Noah Wyle) fill-in while he goes off on this mysterious sabbatical. But, as another seemingly never-ending shift progresses, we discover that there is so much more to her — and so much more we still have to discover.

And Moafi went on a similar journey of uncovering Dr. Al-Hashimi in her rigorous audition process. The L Word: Generation Q star fell in love with the Emmy-winning medical drama while, fittingly enough, sick with the flu. When she first started auditioning for the role, she incrementally learned more and more about Al-Hashimi, who comes to Pittsburgh by way of the VA. When she ended up booking the part, she quickly shifted into research mode, speaking to as many doctors as she could and shadowing at an emergency department.

It turns out, however, there was one piece of Al-Hashimi's character that Moafi did not need to prep for. Because it was inspired by her own life.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

As Season 2 progresses, we find out that Al-Hashimi spent a significant of time abroad in Afghanistan. While there, she worked in Kabul with Médecins Sans Frontières, the French version of Doctors Without Borders, including at a maternity hospital in 2020. That building also served as the site of a terrorist attack in real life that claimed the lives of 24 people, including 15 women and a midwife, prompting the closure of the Kabul location.

"I was actually moved by that addition," Moafi reveals in an exclusive interview with Parade. "That was something that I was secretly hoping for. My own background, coming from a refugee family, and the humanitarian work that I've done for the past decade, plus the advocacy work, working with humanitarian organizations and as an ambassador with the International Rescue Committee, and working with various Iran-related advocacy groups or human rights groups. And so when I found that character detail in the script, I was so happy that these humanitarian workers could feel seen and appreciated."

Related: Noah Wyle Has One Rule for ‘The Pitt’s Guest Stars — And It Might Surprise You (Exclusive)

Not only does Moafi feel that Al-Hashimi's extensive background in humanitarian work is a nice nod to the actress's life off-screen. But it also serves as yet another indicator of why the show is so successful at tackling myriad issues in today's world without ever leaving the building.

"Something that The Pitt does so beautifully is it reflects the societal issues that we're living through, and it brings them to the forefront through the lens of the hospital," she says. "And so it was really powerful for me to bring this global experience to the forefront because of everything that we're living through. We're living in an era of proliferating crises, unprecedented humanitarian crises, with climate disasters, war, displacement, collapsing health systems, rising authoritarianism, funding cuts.

"So introducing this character, having somebody who practices medicine in those environments, who's treated patients in places where the entire city, sometimes the entire country, can feel like one continuous emergency room, where resources are scarce and need is overwhelming. It just adds a gravity to the show and to her perspective and to the hospital. And the fact that she carries that global awareness into the trauma ward felt really important."

Related: Shawn Hatosy Teases a Dark Turn for Robby on ‘The Pitt’: ‘There’s a Glimmer in His Eye’ (Exclusive)

Indeed, Moafi has said, throughout Season 2, she has been contacted by a number of her friends, American doctors who, like Al-Hashimi, have traveled the world aspiring to bring necessary medical care to those who need it. And they cannot sing The Pitt's praises enough for representing their work.

"It's just important for us to give voice to this kind of doctor in this moment. It means so much," she says. "When I was cast in the role, I was so surprised by how many of my friends who are in the humanitarian field, who work in places like Jordan or Syria, love the show. I've heard what it means to them. But at that moment, I can only imagine what this would mean to them. Because we already have such a beautiful representation of what it means to be a healthcare worker in the United States. And now it just adds another dimension to this colorful palette."

This 'Canceled' Comedian Returns to Netflix With New Special and Headlining Show

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 2:45pm

The best working comedians today are gathering for a prestigious festival in Hollywood.

Among the performers is controversial figure who stepped out of the spotlight for a bit, after The New York Times exposed sexual misconduct allegations back in 2017.

Since then, Louis C.K. has still found success in performing, having won a Grammy Award for one of his self-released comedy specials and selling out iconic venues like Madison Square Garden.

During his prime, the edgy comedian, 58, even released a popular Netflix special — and now, C.K. is finally back in business with the streaming giant.

His new stand-up special Ridiculous is set to premiere on Netflix this summer, and the Emmy-winning comic will also headline the Hollywood Bowl on May 5 as part of the highly anticipated Netflix Is a Joke Fest.

View this post on Instagram

"I’d like to say Thank you to Netflix for putting my new show on their platform and for the live gig at The Bowl," C.K. stated in an email that blasted out to fans on Thursday, April 2.

Tickets for his Hollywood Bowl show will go on sale April 6 at 10 a.m. PT.

The Louie star and creator has been touring this new hour of laughs for nearly a year, headlining theaters, arenas and even small stadiums across the U.S., Variety reports. “Ridiculous” marks his first special to be released by a major distributor since 2017, when he last partnered with Netflix.

Following the #MeToo scandal, Netflix and FX cut ties with C.K., and HBO dropped him from a televised event and removed his previous specials from its on-demand library, Variety also noted.

Years later, however, C.K. has expanded his reach by entering the literary world. His debut novel Ingram made The New York Times Bestsellers list for hardcover fiction titles in November 2025. He announced the news of his novel’s success on his official Instagram account at the time — see below.

‘Terminator 2’ Villain Robert Patrick, 67, Would Rather Be Home With His Wife and Dogs Than in Hollywood

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 2:34pm

Robert Patrick was one of the most terrifying villains of the '90s in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, but in real life, the actor just wants to be cozy at home.

Patrick, 67, who appears in the new indie-horror film Mermaid, opened up in a new interview about how he has no interest in playing the Hollywood game. Instead, he'd rather hang out at home with his family.

"I sort of stick to my lane. I sort of do what I do. I'm not big on going out to Hollywood parties. I don't really like going to premieres. I don't like all that stuff," the actor said in an interview with Fox News Digital. "I just rather sit at home, be with my wife and my dogs. And maybe that's all working in my favor. I don't know. But there's nothing I'm really chasing. I'm pretty content and happy with what I've got and who I've got around me."

Patrick has been married for over thirty years to his wife, Barbara, with whom he has two children.

"My wife is just great. She's the one for me and I love her dearly. I revere her, I respect the hell out of her. She's a great gal. She's been there with me when I had nothing," Patrick shared.

Rob Rausch Thinks ‘Traitors’ Ruined His ‘Survivor’ Gameplay (Exclusive)

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 2:29pm

Rob Rausch was underestimated as the first Love Island USA star to be in The Traitors castle. He was the sole winner of season 4, earning the $220,800 prize money as the last traitor in the game. Rausch, 27, is happy to return to his home in Alabama after a stressful season.

Parade interviewed the winner about his life after the show on the Crown Royal x Realtree Experience on March 28. We saw a different side of Rob, who was happy to fish and enjoy Crown Royal cocktails as the face of the collaboration.

Rob Rausch’s Ranch Plans After 'The Traitors'Rob Rausch Crown Royal x Realtree Collab Interview (7:04)

The winner previously said he wanted to use his prize money to buy a ranch. "I grew up with cows, chickens, guineas, pigs, goats, peacocks, ducks, [and] turkeys," he said. "We had everything. So probably whenever I settle down, I'm home more, I’ll probably get more of that stuff."

The kickback experience hosted by Crown Royal and Realtree felt like a peek into that life. There was a tractor tour of Realtree Farms in Pine Mountain, GA. The brand once sponsored Dale Earnhardt, and Rausch jumped in his car to experience it for himself.

He caught three bass on the property's lake and enjoyed a wild game tasting by Michael
Pendley
, Editor of Realtree.com’s Timber to Table. His favorite was the venison. The Love Island USA former islander knows how important it is to be properly dressed for the outdoors.

Now the outdoor brand is releasing a Crown Royal Camo Capsule Collection:

A comfortable hoodie featuring the Crown Royal classic logo and Realtree APX.

Rausch revealed which part of the limited-time collection he'll wear most. "Probably the hoodie," he answered. "I wear a hoodie basically every single day, whether it's just to the gym, or in my house. I love a good hoodie."

There was a cocktail hour with Rausch, where he talked about not being a reality TV viewer. One of the refreshing cocktails was called "Forage," which has Crown Royal Fine De Luxe, caramelized wild honey, fresh ginger, and hay-smoked lemon.

"I watched Survivor back in the day, but I haven't watched that in years," he said. "That's probably the only reality TV I've ever seen."

Rausch said if someone asked him to do the survival show before he went on Love Island USA, then it would be a yes. "If I did Survivor, people would probably know about Traitors. I feel like it would just ruin my whole gameplay," he said.

Those who are fans of him can hope. "Maybe down the road, maybe when I'm like older, I would do it," he said.

Crown Royal Camo Baseball Cap, $25 at Crown Royal

Crown Royal

A classic cap featuring the Crown Royal classic logo and Realtree APX, designed for easy everyday wear.

Rausch rocked this cap during the interview. He said there was no bad blood between him, Maura Higgins, and Eric Nam. "Maura's convinced she won the show," he said, smiling.

Nam's music video, "How the Fire Started," shows faithfuls getting their revenge on the winner. He personally asked Rausch to appear in it. "Of course, I'll do whatever you need me to do, man," Rausch said. They filmed it right after The Traitors reunion.

The former islander bonded with Nam over Avatar: The Last Airbender during The Traitors. Rausch was thrilled to find out the singer voices Aang in The Legend of Ang: The Last Airbender. "Eric told me about that when we were driving into Traitors," he explained. "Immediately, I was like, 'You're my favorite person here."

The last remaining traitors also met Hudson Williams of Heated Rivalry at the Saturday Night Live afterparty. Rausch said his girlfriend loved the show and was "fangirling."

Crown Royal x Realtree Cooler, $350 at Crown Royal Crown Royal Realtree Cooler

Crown Royal

Health Officials Urging Parents to Check Their Freezers After Lead Found in Popular Walmart Kids' Meal

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 2:25pm

If you have a bag of Walmart’s Great Value dinosaur chicken nuggets sitting in your freezer, health officials are urging you to check it before your kids eat another one.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a public health alert warning that a specific batch of frozen dino-shaped chicken nuggets sold at Walmart locations nationwide may contain unsafe levels of lead.

The nuggets were manufactured by Dorada Foods and sold under Walmart's Great Value brand name. While no formal recall has been issued (since the product is no longer available to purchase) officials are sounding the alarm because affected bags may still be sitting in people's homes.

"There is no safe amount of lead exposure," the FSIS alert stated, which was shared on Wednesday, April 1. "The amount of lead found in these nuggets could be as much as five times higher than (the Food and Drug Administration's reference level) for children. Health experts also say these nuggets may be a risk for women who are pregnant or who could become pregnant."

Walmart moved quickly once alerted to the issue. "Health and safety are always a top priority," a spokesperson told TODAY.com the following day. "As soon as we were alerted to the issue, we moved quickly to issue a sales restriction and remove the product from sale in stores and online. We're working with the supplier to investigate. Customers who purchased the impacted items can return to any Walmart for a refund."

Here's exactly what to look for. The alert only applies to 29-ounce plastic bags of Great Value Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets with a "best if used by" date of February 10, 2027, a lot code of 0416DPO1215, and establishment number P44164 on the back of the bag.

If your bag matches those details, do not eat them. Toss them or return them to your nearest Walmart for a full refund.

Lead exposure is particularly dangerous for young children and pregnant women, with potential effects ranging from loss of appetite, fatigue, and stomach pain to longer-term developmental delays and learning difficulties—even at lower exposure levels once considered safe.

1970s Classic Dolly Parton Song Was Inspired by an 8-Year-Old Fan's Request

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 2:25pm

Singer Dolly Parton, 80, is an iconic songwriter and storyteller, so fans love when she gets to talking about her early days, what she went through coming up in the male-dominated country music world, and what inspired some of her best songs. The origin story for her beloved hit "Jolene," in fact, is one for the books.

You may have heard Parton talk about the red-haired bank teller back in the day who developed a crush on her husband Carl Thomas Dean. Parton says it was this particular "situation" that inspired the "I'm beggin' of you, please don't take my man" lyrics and story behind the song "Jolene."

Parton explained the semi-scandalous scenario to NPR, saying, "He just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention. It was kinda like a running joke between us—when I was saying, 'Hell, you're spending a lot of time at the bank. I don't believe we've got that kind of money.'"

This red-haired bank teller didn't have the name Jolene, however. The song's title came from a completely different redhead—a young red-haired fan of Parton's who was hanging around after a show for an autograph from the magnetic singer.

"One night, I was on stage, and there was this beautiful little girl—she was probably 8 years old at the time," Parton says. "And she had this beautiful red hair, this beautiful skin, these beautiful green eyes, and she was looking up at me, holding, you know, for an autograph. I said, 'Well, you're the prettiest little thing I ever saw. So what is your name?' And she said, 'Jolene.' And I said, 'Jolene. Jolene. Jolene. Jolene.' I said, 'That is pretty. That sounds like a song. I'm going to write a song about that.'"

And so she did ...

Dolly Parton's classic hit "Jolene" was released as a single on October 15, 1973. It was the first single and title track for her album, also titled Jolene, which debuted in Febuary 1974. The song hit No. 1 on the Billboard Country chart in February 1974, and got to No. 60on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in March that year.

The Jolene album was Parton's 13th solo studio album and the last album she made before famously leaving the Porter Wagoner Show to fully pursue her solo career. The 1973 "Jolene" original was twice nominated for Best Female Country Vocal Performance Grammy, in 1975 and again in 1976, but Parton did not win.

Taco Bell Fans Voted This International Favorite Onto U.S. Menus for a Limited Time

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 2:25pm

For the first time ever, Taco Bell Rewards Members across the U.S. were asked to vote on which international taco should make its stateside debut. After a week of voting and plenty of anticipation, one globally inspired favorite officially claimed victory and is now headed to U.S. menus for a limited time. As someone who absolutely loves Indian food, I cannot wait to try this one.

The winning taco secured an impressive 64.65 percent of the vote, beating out another internationally inspired contender in Taco Bell's first-ever Global Taco Vote. The campaign let fans choose between two popular menu items from overseas markets, turning what would normally be a corporate test item into a fan-driven decision. Now that the votes are in, American customers will get the chance to try the globally loved taco later this year while supplies last. The winner? India's butter chicken taco.

🍳 SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & fun food news in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter 🍳

A Global Favorite With Bold Flavor

Inspired by one of India's most beloved comfort dishes, the winning taco delivers rich, layered flavor in every bite. It features shredded, slow-roasted chicken simmered in a tomato-cream-based sauce infused with bold spices. The savory filling is topped with onion, cilantro, lettuce and cheddar cheese, and it's wrapped inside a fried chalupa shell.

The combination of creamy sauce, warm spices and crunchy texture makes it stand out from Taco Bell's everyday lineup. It's familiar enough for fast food fans but distinct enough to feel like something new. That balance is likely part of why it resonated so strongly with voters.

Taco Bell has increasingly looked to its global test kitchens for inspiration, and this vote marks a new way of bringing international flavors to the U.S. Instead of guessing what might land, the brand let fans decide directly.

Why Fans Are So Excited

Limited-time drops already tend to spark urgency, but this one comes with built-in bragging rights. Customers helped bring this taco here. That sense of participation adds to the hype and makes the launch feel more personal.

The Global Taco Vote also signals that Taco Bell may continue experimenting with international menu crossovers in the future. For fans who follow food trends and viral menu items, this could be the start of a bigger rotation of globally inspired flavors hitting U.S. locations.

The taco will only be available for a limited time at participating U.S. Taco Bell locations, with timing determined by the brand.

Doctors Insisted Woman 'Just' Had Anxiety. Now She Lives With a Feeding Tube

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 2:23pm

In the U.S., roughly 29% of women report having their health concerns dismissed by a doctor, while 15% report that a provider did not believe they were telling the truth, according to KFF Health Survey data from 2024. Negligence can cost women everything, including their own lives. It certainly could have cost multi-chronic illness sufferer Katie Birmingham, 21, hers.

"You really have to become your own advocate," Birmingham tells Parade. "I get told by some people that because I did so much research and brought up certain possibilities with doctors, that I shouldn’t trust 'Doctor Google' and that I was 'shopping' for diagnoses. I would argue that if I had just been listened to in the first place and given real help from day one, I would not have had to do as much research as I did."

Courtesy of Katie Birmingham

How It All Began

Birmingham says she has always felt "off" since she was young: her stomach was always upset, she contracted viruses very easily, and she was constantly exhausted.

"My first memory of my health affecting my life was in second grade, when there was a good chunk of time where I would consistently be going home from school because of my stomach," she recalls. "Coincidentally, it was always after lunch, like clockwork. I was taken to the doctor after going to the nurse so many times in school, and my pediatrician told my mom and me that I was suffering from anxiety."

Being so young, she accepted it and tried to get on with her day-to-day life. But by the time she got to high school, the stomach pains became unbearable. She assumed they stemmed from being a vegetarian, but by January of 2020, she returned to her doctor. Her labs and X-rays showed all was "well," so it was chalked up to IBS.

Courtesy of Katie Birmingham

"I continued to push through until March of 2022, when I woke up with what I thought was the stomach flu or something similar. That feeling has yet to go away," she says.

Doctors still reportedly insisted it was IBS and anxiety, and she trialed several medications to address it. After contracting mono in October of the same year, she marked her health in true decline. She was experiencing symptoms like extreme fatigue, dizziness, tachycardia, muscle pain, and weakness. It got to a point where she claims she just couldn't keep up with regular life anymore.

Getting an Official Diagnosis

It wasn't until 2024, when Birmingham got to the Mayo Clinic, that she was finally able to get some answers. After rigorous testing, a neurologist flagged that she had Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS): a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system causing a rapid heart rate (tachycardia) upon standing, lightheadedness, and profound fatigue. But it wasn't until her second trip to the famed clinic that she learned her POTS diagnosis was part of a larger connective tissue disorder: hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS).

A specialist told her that viruses like mono can "trigger" comorbid conditions like POTS and fibromyalgia, which she was also diagnosed with. When she returned to Missouri, her home state, she also learned she had median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS), which she says has plagued her the most.

"The ligament was compressing my celiac artery, which supplies blood to the digestive system," she explained.

"I had laparoscopic surgery at Mayo to release the MALS in June of 2025. This fixed the compression anatomically, but it did not improve the severe gastrointestinal symptoms I was having," she continued.

Courtesy of Katie Birmingham

It was she who brought up the possibility of having Superior Mesenteric Artery (SMA) Syndrome, a rare, potentially serious digestive disorder where the third portion of the duodenum is compressed between the abdominal aorta and the superior mesenteric artery. It causes severe abdominal pain as well as nausea, vomiting, and early fullness.

"I obviously had done a lot of my own research because I was not getting the help I needed," she claims. "This was quickly shut down, even though my imaging and symptoms matched the diagnostic criteria for SMA, and I was told I needed more recovery time. I didn’t have much contact with my surgeon since. Over the next few months, I continued to decline, and at the end of the year, it was drastic. I was no longer able to sustain myself nutritionally without severe symptoms."

On Christmas Eve 2025, she had a surgical feeding tube placed: a gastrojejunostomy.

Courtesy of Katie Birmingham

"This means part of the tube does go into my stomach, and there’s one port for that, but there is a longer portion that goes down past my stomach and duodenum, into my jejunum. This is where my formula goes," she explains. "It bypasses my stomach. Because I suspected SMAS, I had to push for the GJ. I knew that the problem came from nutrition going to my stomach/duodenum, so a G-tube would just cause the same problems. I only use the G portion of the tube to vent and drain my stomach to ease symptoms. In January, I saw a specialist in Texas who confirmed my SMAS."

How She's Doing Today

Physically, she is still struggling quite a bit and, sadly, will likely do so for a long time. And it isn't just the symptoms that make it so hard; it is the emotional and mental toll as well.

"Getting diagnosed was and is a long and frustrating process," she says. "Honestly, dealing with the medical system in general here in the States, specifically in Missouri, is almost a full-time job. Most of my symptoms were and still are dismissed or attributed to anxiety. Obviously, this contributed directly to the delay in diagnosis and continues to hinder how I receive care. It takes absolutely everything I have to get simple things done or to be listened to."

Though getting answers is helpful, she goes on to claim that even after all of her diagnosed conditions were confirmed, she still struggles to receive adequate care.

Courtesy of Katie Birmingham

"My current hospital's gastroenterology department has actually completely ghosted me after refusing to manage my feeding tube (recommended by a nutritionist multiple times) because the provider I was seeing told me all of my gastrointestinal issues were 'all in my head,'" she alleges. "I have always and will continue to be the one to have to advocate for myself and connect the dots between everything."

The Reality of Living With Chronic Illness

Birmingham lives a fairly isolated life because of her illnesses but takes a lot of joy in creating things. She describes herself as a creative, detail-oriented person who loves to draw and runs a small jewelry business from her home. Still, it is hard to live on the fringes of life.

"I can’t show up in the ways that I want to or used to," she admits. "And I am the one experiencing this, but as I said, a lot of my conditions are invisible, so it can be really hard for others around me to understand what I am feeling and how hard it is just to be able to function. To do things they wouldn’t think twice about—to get out of bed, to shower, to leave the house. It shows you quickly who your people are and who aren’t truly on your team. It is kind of like a slap in the face; I mean, it shows me who is willing to understand me, adapt to my needs, and support me, but it is not without loss."

Courtesy of Katie Birmingham

Now, she has taken to sharing her journey on social media, where she openly shares the good, bad, and ugly of living with a chronic illness. Birmingham hopes to spread awareness and stress the importance of advocating for yourself when it comes to your health.

@chronicallykate0

I have this goal where I try to create one piece of jewelry a day. Or at least start a piece/come up with a design. Even on the days I feel like absolute shit. It helps me still feel like me even when my body has felt so foreign the last few years. I started making jewelry in 2024 as a little craft to do when I started really doing bad with my health. I quickly realized it was all I wanted to do. It turned from a craft, to a hobby, to a daily thing, a passion. I am constantly thinking about what I’m going to make next. I have dreams about designs and how I will achieve them. Jewelry is my passion, and my dream is that one day I can reach enough people with my passion that my very small business grows and I can become more independent and successful in life. #chronicillness #jewelrymaking #passion #mentalhealth #wirewrappedjewelry

"Doctors are often taught the saying, 'When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.' They are trained to assume common conditions first, or 'horses,'" she candidly explains. "They don’t think to look deeper into the rarer or more complex conditions like mine—zebras. Because of that, they are so often overlooked. I spent so much time being treated like a horse when really, I was a zebra all along."

2004 Nostalgic Country Hit Ranked 'Best Kenny Chesney Song' Was Inspired By His Own Life

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 2:21pm

For country music fans, few songs hit quite like the ones that take you back—and one 2004 Kenny Chesney track is doing exactly that decades later.

According to a recent ranking by Taste of Country, an online country music destination, one of Chesney’s most nostalgic early-2000s hits has been named his best song ever—and it’s easy to understand why. Released during a peak moment in his career, "I Go Back" has become more than just a fan favorite. It’s a time capsule.

Why "I Go Back" Still Resonates With Fans

Released in 2004 as part of Chesney’s massively successful album When the Sun Goes Down, "I Go Back" stands out for its deeply personal storytelling, a hallmark of Chesney's songwriting style.

Unlike many radio hits of the time, the song wasn’t just about a moment—it was a look back at the entirety of the singer's life. The lyrics follow Chesney as he reflects on different periods of his life, each tied to a specific song or memory, serving as a snapshot of Chesney's life up to that date.

The song resonates deeply and quickly became the song that transports fans to a moment in time - back to a summer night, a first love, or a carefree time in one's life. The song taps into the universal feeling of being taken back to simpler times.

Inspired by Real Life—and Real Memories

Part of what makes "I Go Back" so powerful is its authenticity. Chesney didn’t just perform the song—he lived the experiences that create the song's narrative. Written by Chesney himself, the track reflects his own memories and experiences growing up, giving it an emotional weight that creates an intimacy with listeners.

That authenticity helped the song become a standout hit, climbing the country charts and remaining a staple of Chesney’s live shows years later.

At a time when country music was evolving, Chesney carved out a lane that blended nostalgia with feel-good storytelling—something that would come to define much of his career.

A Song That Connects Generations

More than 20 years after its release, "I Go Back" continues to strike a chord with audiences both old and new, still resonating as deeply as the year it was released.

For longtime fans, it’s a reminder of where they were in 2004. For younger listeners, it’s an introduction to the kind of storytelling that makes Chesney one of country music’s biggest stars.

Whether it’s blasting through car speakers on a summer drive or playing softly in the background of a late-night memory, "I Go Back" proves that the best songs don’t just tell the writer's story—they become part of ours.

Tupperware Fans Are Racing to Aldi to Grab This Colorful 8-Piece Kitchen Find

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 2:05pm

Let's make one thing clear: Tupperware has a very loyal group of fans who have stuck with the brand for decades. The way it changed the food storage game is something to be studied in history books. Now, not all food storage is created equal, and certainly not all containers are Tupperware quality, but every so often, another company gets those vibrant, cheerful hues just right.

Take Aldi, for example. Aldi doesn't sell the actual Tupperware brand, but its own house brand, Crofton, tries its best to get in on the brand-name storage container action. Recently, it unveiled a Pyrex look-alike set that was pretty darn impressive. And now, dare I say, Aldi is taking a run at capturing that Crofton Short, Lobster Red with a brand-new eight-piece set.

Aldi refers to this bowl set as the "short" variety because it also sells a similar set it calls "tall." The tall version comes in the same lobster red colorway with eight pieces, but it's just not as squat as the set shown above.

Lately, the Aldi Finds aisle is basically begging you to become a meal-prep enthusiast. It's been packed with food storage containers, perfect for prepping lunches and dinners at the start of the week. 'Twilight' Fans are Racing to Five Below for This $7 Whimsigoth Kitchen Item

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 1:55pm

The intersection of pop culture and home dining has reached a fever pitch in 2026, as fans look for more immersive ways to celebrate their favorite cinematic worlds. No longer relegated to simple posters or apparel. Beloved characters and iconic film aesthetics are now taking over the kitchen table. This shift toward fandom-focused home goods has transformed the way we approach even the most basic meals. Turning a quick lunch into a curated, social-media-ready experience. Whether you are a dedicated collector or simply someone who appreciates a touch of whimsy in your daily routine, the trend toward themed tableware has become a major movement in contemporary lifestyle decor.
