55 Years Ago Today, TV’s Scariest Soap Ended Its Six-Season Run

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 11:46am

It's been 55 years since Dark Shadows ended its spooky, six-season run. The gothic soap opera aired from June 27, 1966, to April 2, 1971, on ABC. Created by Dan Curtis, Dark Shadows followed the wealthy Collins family of Collinsport, Maine, who were “tormented by strange occurrences," per a description by IMDb.

Known for its eerie opening music, Dark Shadows aired on ABC’s daytime schedule, sandwiched between General Hospital and The Dating Game by its final season. By daytime TV standards in the 1960s, the series was downright terrifying for many viewers.

Jonathan Frid played the show's protagonist, vampire Barnabus Collins, complete with pointy fangs that he’d routinely flash.

“They were such crowd-pleasers, and they got the ratings up, but I never understood the reason for that,” the actor once said in an interview published by Woman’s World. ”I don’t know why they scared anybody. What scared me was Barnabas’ lie; that he was pretending to be something he wasn’t. He got the lust for blood every once in a while, but always what preyed on his mind was the lie. … Barnabas was lying that he was the calm and comfortable cousin from England. He wasn’t at all. He was a sick, unbelievable creep that the world didn’t know about.”

The series also featured spirits, zombies, and witches, as well as coffins, murderers, curses, and eerie time travel. An entire storyline was set in 1897.

A future “Angel" was on the cast

Dark Shadows featured a large recurring cast. One star went on to superstardom five years after Dark Shadows was canceled. Future Charlie’s Angels star Kate Jackson played Daphne Harridge, a governess /deadly spirit, in the final season of the show.

Dark Shadows was the first job that I ever had," the actress said during an appearance on the Donny & Marie talk show. The first, I think, six weeks, I didn't speak. I was a ghost,” “And was a good thing too, because I had just gotten out of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and I couldn't speak, I was much too scared. But I beckoned, and then finally, after six weeks, I spoke and read the teleprompter.”

“We had teleprompters, but it was called tape live, and you didn't want to stop tape because if you stop tape, you had to wait 18 hours to get it back,” Jackson added.

A feature film was the nail in the coffin

In 1970, Curtis attempted to capitalize on Dark Shadows' popularity with a feature film titled House of Dark Shadows. The film was successful enough that MGM greenlit a second movie, titled Night of Dark Shadows. But by that time, the Dark Shadows TV series was off the air.

According to The Saturday Evening Post, viewership for Dark Shadows began to dramatically taper off by late 1970s, and some local stations dropped the show before it was officially canceled.

Dollar General's Vibrant $6 Find Is Perfect for Hosting This Spring

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 11:45am

Am I the only one who feels like the first few weeks of spring are this weird micro season where it’s still not quite warm enough to eat every meal outside, but you’re also very much ready to give it a rest on the soup? Like it’s not berry season yet, but it feels like it should be, you know? It’s the seasonal equivalent of wearing a hoodie with shorts, and I won’t elaborate any further. In a way, it’s experientially confusing, but also kind of exhilarating?

No one's judging you for still wanting to hibernate indoors, and yet if you’re brave enough to venture out into the pollen-blanketed world, you might just realize that this blurry in-between is the sweet spot for enjoying margs on the patio. There’s a subtle breeze in the air, and the weather is just mild enough to sit outside for hours without sweating through every layer of your clothes. On second thought, it might actually be better than we initially let on.

😋😋SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter🍳🍔

With such primo weather upon us, what better time than now to start gathering your hosting essentials for when you do finally decide to air out the patio furniture and have a few friends over for an al fresco pasta night? You know, one complete with saucy grilledshrimp linguine, several glasses of wine and lots of crusty bread? Of course, the bread is the real star of the show, and as such, it deserves this vibrant $6 Bread Basket from Dollar General that’ll make you feel like you’ve been transported to the Amalfi Coast.

It features a rustic woven basket with a removable fabric liner, and it's available in three gorgeous prints: a nautical blue stripe, a zesty lemon print and a breezy blue leaves design. After dinner, simply toss the liner into the washer, and you’re good to go for next time.

It’s a simple upgrade that won’t break the bank at just $6, and it’s the perfect little something to help elevate your personal bread course. Maybe there’s something to this micro season thing after all. As long as it comes with fresh bread dipped in herby olive oil or slathered in butter, we’ll take it.

Bodycam Footage Shows Tiger Woods Handcuffed by Police After Car Crash

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 11:44am

Bodycam footage of legendary golfer Tiger Woods being arrested by Florida police has been released.

The videos, which were released by the Martin County Sheriff's Office and shared by local news station WPBF on Thursday, April 2, show the athlete, 50, being put in handcuffs following a rollover crash.

"At this time, I do believe your normal faculties are impaired," the arresting officer can be heard saying to Woods.

"Am I being arrested?" Woods asks.

"Yes, sir," she responds.

The officers proceed to search the golfer's pockets. They reportedly found cash, a pair of AirPods, nicotine pouches, and two opioid pills, PEOPLE reported.

Will Tiger Woods Seek Treatment?

Yes. Woods recently received the permission of a Florida judge to leave the United States to seek treatment following his car accident and arrest for DUI, according to court documents obtained and reviewed by PEOPLE. According to the documents, the athlete’s physician made the recommendation that he leave the country “based upon the Defendant’s complex clinical presentation, the urgent need for a level of care that cannot safely or effectively be done within the United States.”

The recommendation that Woods seek treatment out of the U.S. was also based on the idea that his “privacy has been repeatedly compromised.”

When Was Tiger Woods in a Car Accident?

On March 27, Woods was involved in a rollover car crash when his Land Rover rolled over after he “overtook” a pressure-cleaning truck that was pulling a small trailer, Sheriff John M. Budensiek said in a press conference on FridayPEOPLE noted.

Police administered a breathalyzer test on the scene, and Woods “blew triple zeros.” However, he refused to take a urinalysis exam at the jail. According to the police affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, Martin County Sheriff’s Office deputies allegedly found two hydrocodone pills in his left pants pocket.

What Did Tiger Woods Say After the Accident?

Woods finally broke his silence on March 31 in a statement posted to his Twitter/X page.

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” Woods said in a post. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery,” Woods continued. “I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones, and myself at this time.”

Here's the Average Net Worth of Americans Over 50—How Do You Compare?

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 11:42am

A new report is out, showing how people's net worth stacks up by age. The data is actually pretty surprising and reflects the bigger picture of how average Americans save and spend.

But even more importantly, the report explains why knowing these numbers can make a difference for your own personal financial health, especially after you calculate your net worth and see how you stack up against the average. Keep reading to find out what I mean.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

The Average American in their 50s Has a 6-Figure Net Worth

According to data compiled by Empower, the average net worth for an American in their 50s is $1,364,050. These numbers were pulled from the Empower Personal Dashboard and gathered from users in January 2026. And while Empower notes that the figures aren't the same as what you would see if you looked at data from the Fed, they do paint a very clear picture of what America's average net worth is by age group, which breaks down to:

  • An average of $139,243 for people in their 20s (with a median net worth of $6,600)
  • An average of $325,92 for people in their 30s (with a median net worth of $23,093)
  • An average of $750.578 for people in their 40s (with a median net worth of $68,698)
  • An average of $1,364,050 for people in their 50s (with a median net worth of $180,227)
  • An average of $1,577,907 for people in their 60s (with a median net worth of $274,564)
  • An average of $1,456,151 for people in their 70s (with a median net worth of $220,067)
  • An average of $1,331,143 for people in their 80s (with a median net worth of $220,741)
  • An average of $1,267,467 for people in their 90s (with a median net worth of $205,737)

Since the average figure was calculated by adding all of the data together and dividing it by the number of people who participated in the survey in each age group, it's also important to look at the median value, which was calculated by dividing the total net worth of the group in half, which prevents the higher income respondents from skewing the results quite as much.

How to Calculate Your Own Net Worth

Now that you know what other people your age are working with, it's time to figure out what your own net worth is. You can figure this out by adding up the total value of all of your assets—which would include bank accounts, investments, property, and automobiles—and then dividing it by your debts.

Once you have that figure, you can see your total net worth and how it compares to others'.

How to Build Your Net Worth

Once you figure out what your financial picture looks like, you may decide you want to build upon it. Knowing how the figure is calculated, you can probably see where to start. For example, if you have a lot of debt and liabilities, paying those down would be a good jumping-off point.

However, if you're already in a good place with your debts, adding to your assets will help you raise your net worth. That can mean putting more money into CDs, savings bonds, or money market accounts, or even making larger purchases, such as investment properties.

However, if you do opt to do the ladder, it's important to remember that you'll need to add any new debt you take on in the process of buying property back into your calculation, which could potentially (and initially) shrink your net worth until you build up enough equity.

1978 Hit TV Show About Greedy, Rich Texans Premiered 48 Years Ago Today

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 11:33am

The TV show Dallas premiered on CBS on April 2, 1978, exactly 48 years ago today. The prime-time soap about a greedy, wealthy Texas family and their rivals initially started as a five-part miniseries on Sunday nights, a time slot when rating were known to be low. However, the show eventually got picked up as a series in the coveted Friday night time slot and ran for 14 seasons and 357 episodes until its finale in 1991.

What is the plot of the TV show Dallas?

The Ewing family saga set in Texas focused on J. R. Ewing (played by the late Larry Hagman), a Texas oil baron, and his ongoing feuds with his younger brother, Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy), his tortured wife Sue Ellen (Linda Gray), his archrival Cliff Barnes (played by the late Ken Kercheval), and basically anyone who got in the way of his money or power. There was blackmail, exploit, and manipulation, as well as shady corporate dealings, scandalous love affairs, and seriously dysfunctional family drama.

What happens in the premiere episode of Dallas?

The premiere episode (Season 1, Episode 1) of Dallas, which aired on April 2, 1978, was titled "Digger's Daughter." It was directed by Robert Day and written by David Jacobs. And yes, J.R. Ewing was already up to no good.

Here's the premiere episode synopsis from IMDB:

"Bobby Ewing and Pamela Barnes shock their respective families when they reveal they have married. This revelation renews an age-old feud between the two families, and J.R. Ewing, Bobby's older brother, schemes to break them up using ranch hand Ray Krebbs (played by Steve Kanaly), who once dated Pamela."

Who were the core characters and cast members on Dallas?

The members of the Ewing family, by blood or by marriage, were the key players on Dallas:

  • John Ross 'J.R.' Ewing, Jr., played by Hagman
  • Sue Ellen Ewing, played by Gray
  • Bobby Ewing, played by Duffy
  • Pamels Barnes Ewing, played Victoria Principal
  • Eleanor Southworth 'Miss Ellie' Ewing, played by Barbara Bel Geddes
  • John Ross 'Jock' Ewing, played by the late Jim Davis
  • Lucy Ewing, played by Charlene Tilton

Several other well-known actors joined the cast throughout its run, including
Ken Kercheval (Cliff Barnes) and Priscilla Presley (as Jenna Wade after Morgan Fairchild left the role). Early in his career but later into Dallas's runtime (1987-1988), even actor Brad Pitt did a 4-episode stint as the character Randy, boyfriend to Charlie Wade.

Why was Dallas so popular?

Over time, the creators of Dallas fine tuned prime-time melodrama at its best and accomplished cliffhanger perfection. The highly publicized "Who Shot J.R.?" mystery became an '80s cultural icon. When the episode revealing J.R.’s shooter, aptly titled "Who Done It," aired in 1980, 83 million people in the U.S. tuned in (that's 76% of all U.S. televisions on that night).

After that big win, the show even managed to backtrack an entire season's events and storylines (Season 9) by writing it into a surprise dream sequence. Yes, the entire season turned out to be a dream. Reportedly, most of the cast on the show weren't even let in on the shocking twist, which brought a certain beloved character back from the dead.

Did Dallas win any awards?

Dallas received 21 Emmy nominations and several wins across categories. A few of the key wins for Dallas include:

  • Emmy Award: Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Bel Geddes, 1980
  • Golden Globe Awards: Best Television Series—Drama (1981, 1982) and Best Leading Actor in a TV Series—Drama for Hagman, 1981
  • People's Choice Awards: Multiple wins for Favorite TV Dramatic Program (1980, 1982, 1987)
Was the show Dallas filmed in Texas?

Most of the exterior shots were filmed in Texas, including the home exteriors of the iconic Southfork Ranch, which is located outside Dallas in Parker, Texas. These days, you can even take a tour of the real Southfork Ranch. There were also some episodes shot on location in the Dallas area. As for interior sets and shots, you can thank a swanky California studio for most of those.

Where can I watch Dallas?

You can currently stream the Dallas TV series on several services, including Prime VideoApple TV, and Fandango at Home (Vudu). Streaming service, bundle, or per-episode fees may apply.

The Deal Focuses on Value Subway's BOGO Footlong Promotion

PR Newswire

In a recent press release, Subway explained the promotion is meant to help customers manage rising everyday expenses while still enjoying meals out.

"We're all getting less for our money lately, given the price at the pump, rising rents, utilities, and groceries," Dave Skena, Chief Marketing Officer, North America, said in the press release. This 1968 Hit Ranked 'Best James Taylor Song' Inspired a Beatles Classic

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 11:21am

While "Something in the Way She Moves" started out as a demo from a hopeful singer, it's become solidified as a classic song, and even served as inspiration for a huge hit.

Released by folk singer James Taylor, the song ranked No. 1 by Ticketmaster UK's list of favorite songs by the legendary artist. The song, which was released in 1968 on his namesake album, went on to spark some inspo for the Beatles in one of their major hits.

Taylor's connection to the Beatles started when the singer, now 78, who was born in Boston and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, made his way to London to pursue his career in music.

"With the help of some friends, I made demo of a couple of tunes and eventually [famed A&R exec] Peter Asher heard it and he played it forPaul McCartneyand George Harrison," Taylor recalled in 2008 on the UK's Later... with Jools Holland show. "I was recording in Trident Studios when the lads were making their White Album. When they finished one of their marathon sessions, I'd try to scurry in and try to put down a couple of tracks before they came back."

Related: James Taylor Leaves Fans in Tears While Performing 'Iconic' Song With His Son

Years later Taylor recalled the story in greater detail in a 2020 interview with Steven Colbert where he shared how, at the time, Asher was looking for more artists to sign, and then recalled playing the ranked song for McCartney and Harrison while they all happened to be in the same studio.

"The way Peter remembers it [is] Paul McCartney and George Harrison were there, Peter leaned out of the door and into the hallway and said, 'Is there a Beatle in the house?' and it turned out there were two Beatles, and he said, 'I've got this guy here and I liked to sign him to the label.'

"I played "Something In The Way She Moves" to George and Paul and I don't actually remember anything about it," Taylor said.

Taylor went on to become the first non-UK artist signed to the Beatles' label, Apple.

The song obviously must have struck the two Beatles as Harrison used the song title as a main lyric in his song "Something" for their hit song on the Abbey Road album. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts.

1977 ‘Best Song’ by a Tropical Rock Icon Was Written in 1 Night, Became a Vacation Anthem

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 11:14am

In 1977, Jimmy Buffett released “Margaritaville” and unleashed a whole new kind of rock: laid-back, sun-soaked, and ideal for escaping everyday life.

Written in one night after a burrito and darn-good margarita in Austin, Texas, the tropical rock classic was an instant hit. Today, it’s a cultural touchstone for escapism and vacations, and widely considered Buffett’s best song, topping rankings like Holler’s roundup of his greatest hits.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

According to Buffett, he was hung over when inspiration struck. Seeking a little hair of the dog, he and a friend hit up Lung’s Cocina del Sur restaurant for Mexican fare and by the time he was back home in the Keys that night, the song was done.

“The song itself is classic Buffett,” Holler writes about the single off Buffett's Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes album. “He nibbles on sponge cake, loses a saltshaker, finds a tattoo of a Mexican woman he doesn’t remember getting and sits around on his porch strumming his guitar and boiling shrimp.”

Buffett performed “Margaritaville” for the first time the following night at a bar, and the crowd loved it. The success of the song later inspired Buffett to open a string of Margaritaville restaurants and launch an entire lifestyle empire.

Always on resort time, Buffett was and still is the king of tropical rock. More than a songwriter, “he was a way of life,” the outlet writes, turning his “easy-going Gulf Coast slacker persona” into a multibillion-dollar brand spanning hospitality, real estate, and consumer goods. The Hawaiian shirt god’s signature style even landed him in Hollywood, appearing in films like Jurassic World (2015) and The Beach Bum (2019).

Over a career spanning more than 50 years, Buffett was a unicorn of singer-songwriters. Decades later, “Margaritaville” continues to resonate with Parrotheads and new generations alike.

View this post on Instagram

Following his passing in 2023, the song -- which peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- went viral once again. Its timeless vibe and carefree energy prove one thing: You can always get wasted away again in Margaritaville.

Meryl Streep Says This Hollywood Legend Is the Real Miranda Priestly from 'Devil Wears Prada'

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 11:12am

For 20 years, the assumption has been that Meryl Streep modeled Miranda Priestly on Vogue's Anna Wintour. Streep has been trying to correct that for years, and she so with some finality this week on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

'I was basically imitating Mike Nichols that whole time,' she said.

Nichols, the director behind The Graduate, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Silkwood, had a quality on set that Streep said she found impossible to ignore. He carried absolute authority. His manner was quiet, precise, and laced with a dry humor that was both cutting and funny. He knew what he was saying was a little snide, and he knew it was a little amusing, and that combination was the whole thing.

'People take it as mean,' Streep said. 'But it's funny.'

The second ingredient was Clint Eastwood, who directed Streep in The Bridges of Madison County in 1995. Where other directors fill a set with noise and direction, Eastwood did the opposite. He never raised his voice. He often shot the rehearsal and moved on, keeping his crew in a permanent state of readiness. Nobody really got comfortable as they waited intently to hear what was next. Put those two together and you have Miranda Priestly.

Streep told Nichols she had used him. 'He was thrilled," she said.

What makes the reveal so interesting now is where the original film stands two decades on. The Devil Wears Prada was sometimes dismissed in 2006 as a 'chick flick', a designation that impacted its budget, marketing, and studio positioning. The film went on to gross over $326 million worldwide. But since then, it's stayed in the cultural conversation. Quotes, scenes, (and the cerulean speech) still circulate on social media. An entire generation grew up on it and brought the next one along. Streep herself noted there is no moment anymore where she doesn't feel the urge to ask why no one is ready. The label, she said, has not worn well, pointing to Barbieand Mamma Miaas further proof of what Hollywood keeps getting wrong about films with women at the center.

The sequel arrives May 1 with the full cast intact: Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci. The story picks up 20 years later, with Andy returning to Runway under circumstances Miranda did not approve. In a clip shown on Colbert, Miranda learns Andy has been brought back and responds by firing someone else entirely.

Hilariously, Streep arrived for the interview wearing cerulean blue, Hathaway's outfit from the first film, and the studio audience recognized it the moment she walked out.

The sequel did not face the same budget fight as the original. 'This one, honey, they spent the money,' Streep said.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 opens May 1, 2026 from 20th Century Studios.

'Survivor 50's Genevieve Mushaluk Explains Her 'Uncomfortable' Feud with Aubry — And Where They Stand Today (Exclusive)

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 11:10am

Survivor 50 is here! Every week, Parade's Mike Bloom will bring you interviews with the castaway most recently voted off the island.

"I have no friends."

That's what Genevieve Mushaluk told me days before her second Survivor journey began. Indeed, the Survivor 47 standout was the only person to come back from her season, meaning not only was she perceived as one of the most dangerous players of the new era, but she wouldn't have anyone to speak to the contrary. Regardless, despite the impressive performance she made on her first time out, Genevieve was quick to fix some of the mistakes she had made. That included hitting the ground running when it came to building relationships. Indeed, by Day 2, she had been brought into a five-person majority, and had a number one ally in Kyle Fraser.

But the lawyer's case for a newfound social game had one objection: Aubry Bracco. In the early days on Vatu, Genevieve expressed an interest in working with her fellow strategist. But the sentiment was far from reciprocated from the four-time player, as she said to her face that she wasn't sure if she could trust her. Things only worsened from there when speculation ran rampant that Aubry had an idol, to the extent where Genevieve searched unsuccessfully through her bag for one. The irony of the situation: Shortly afterward, Aubry did receive an idol, courtesy of Christian Hubicki.

But Genevieve may have been distracted due to her own idol drama, twice over! She was the first to find an idol in the game, only to discover the twist on them this season, courtesy of Billie Eilish. Genevieve held in her hands a "Boomerang Idol," which had to be sent to somebody else and could only return to her once they were voted out. With her first choice, she targeted Ozzy Lusth, hoping to bank on Survivor history. When she found her second on Kalo beach, she went for an ally in Rizo Velovic. But it wasn't to protect him, rather, so he wouldn't see it coming when she did blindside him to take it for herself.

Indeed, Genevieve's journey on her second tribe was quite similar to the first. She yet again made immediate relationships. She yet again found an idol. And she yet again put the target on Aubry, as the distance between them began to widen. As the days ticked on, Genevieve lay in wait, anticipating when she could finally vote her out. Unfortunately, the first time she could, Aubry was surrounded by the two people who had given her the aforementioned idol. The "Blood Moon" twist split the players up into three groups. And despite all the relationships Genevieve had seeded through the first half of the game, she was suddenly in the minority. Of course, given her prior season, she wasn't going to go out without a fight, playing her Shot in the Dark. But that served as the latest, and final, stroke of bad luck in Genevieve's second season, taking her out.

Now out of the game, Genevieve talks with Parade about the origin of her feud with Aubry (and where they stand today), her choices with the Billie Eilish Boomerang Idol, and if she would ever make a return for a third season.

What was your first reaction when you were told about the "Blood Moon" twist, especially after you saw who you would be going to Tribal Council with?
I look down at the color of my rock. I look at other people's rocks around me, and I look up and see Aubry looking at me, just smirking. And I was like, "I am toast. I'm toast. If I don't win this, I'm going home." And throughout the whole challenge, I'm just saying to myself, "If I don't win this, I'm going home. If I don't win this, I'm going home." And then I fall and I just want to cry. And then I pull it together. I'm like, "You've got to do something. What pitch can I make? What do I know?" I tried, but I was a dead man walking.

So there's been a lot of talk since the episode about how fans felt you were incredibly unlucky on Survivor 50. You find two idols, but you have to give them away. Your biggest foe gets given an idol. You get randomly divided into a group where she's in the majority. And your Shot in the Dark doesn't hit.Do you think you had a disproportionate amount of luck this season?
Oh, I don't know if it's disproportionate. What's the proportion I'm entitled to? [Laughs.] That's the thing. Survivor, it's a competition, but there is so much timing and luck — and apparently, phases of the moon — involved. So you just do the best that you can and try not to beat yourself up for it. Had I ultimately gone on to win, there would be so much involved with that, too. So how can I complain?

Actually, yeah, I want to complain! [Laughs.] Because part of me is like, "It is what it is. You're not entitled to anything." And the other part of me is like, "Man, couldn't I have just had any other rock? That would have been so cool. Couldn't I have just had a Beware Advantage? Billie, why do you hate me?"

So we need to get into this entire arc with Aubry. From what we saw, it stemmed from a conversation you had where she admitted she was hestitant to trust you? Was that truly the origin? Or were there more elements we didn't see?
There were a lot more elements involved, as you might imagine. But that conversation is probably one of the more pleasant ones. So, yeah, it was just...I don't know, I'm the worst. There's something about me that's just horribly unlikable, I suppose. It beats me. But it was a tension that persisted, that made it impossible to work together. Which is unfortunate, because I do think that rivalries and hidden relationships can be so valuable amongst the people with them, if you can get to that place.

And unfortunately, the only utility I was able to get out of that dynamic with Aubry was letting other people feel comfortable. If you can't work with someone and have a leg up in terms of information that other people aren't aware of, or possibilities other people aren't aware of, then at least I can put you at ease of being like, "Well, Mike, obviously I don't have a problem with you. As long as this person's here, I'm not targeting you." Which wasn't true on the other beaches, necessarily, but it does create a really great distraction. It just also took a toll because it was uncomfortable personally. So it was a bit of a distraction from the game.

Have you gotten any explanation after the fact as to why that dynamic was so uncomfortable?
The only explanation I've ever got is that it was "all out of respect." Respect is so different in Canada! [Laughs.] So I don't know. But here's the thing: The game is a really stressful situation. And so, if there's something negative, it's so easy to let it fester and build. And it takes a lot to change the tides once you have momentum in that direction, because you're just so stressed and so exhausted. And so I hope it's not that personal and that deep. But everybody gets grouchy when they're tired and hungry.

How are the two of you now?
I don't know. I would say...I am very comfortable in Winnipeg. [Laughs.]

Well let's get into hopefully brighter prospects by talking about the fact that you found two idols.
Did I?! [Laughs.]

Possession is nine-tenths of the law, so maybe it wouldn't hold up in court. But you held onto them for a brief time at least! So the first one you choose to send to Ozzy. And, while it seems on the show it's based on historical precedent, Kyle has told me that it was more so to make a connection with him. Talk to me more about that.
Yeah, so I think that's a bit of a misdirect from a show perspective. Because, to Kyle's point, there was so much more to it. Really, when I read that note, my first reaction was, "Okay, I'm not I'm never getting this back. So what is the value of this twist to me if I never get an idol out of it?" And the value at that point so early in the game, it was clear to me that people were going around saying I was scary. There were questions of, "Can I trust Genevieve?" I had had a great start to the game with Colby that allowed us to really genuinely connect, and I felt safe with Kyle. But I needed to microwave trust and sort of counteract this perception that I'm standoffish and so untrustworthy.

And so the best value I could extract out of that first idol was building bonds on my own tribe. The idol is not going to help me. So how do I manage this information in a way that's going to get me the most goodwill amongst the people I want to work with, and thus hopefully safety? And so then it became beyond just sharing the information, it became a question of who's the right person that these people won't misinterpret as me wanting to work against them, who's working with them? Who could I give it to as a friend of theirs? And so after going through a couple of options with Kyle, Ozzy, I think, was the right decision to just sort of be neutral. And it could spin old school, it could spin new school. There wasn't too much of that there. But yeah, sharing the information and trying to build trust was really all I could extract in terms of value out of the first idol.

That's interesting, because the exact opposite happens with your second idol. You choose to not tell anybody about it, not even Rizo, who you give it to. Talk to me about that.
So Rizo was, at that time, swapped alone on a tribe. And so my thoughts with giving it to him is he and I were working very closely together. He told me everything that happened. And once Kyle left, I told him everything that happened for the most part. And so I thought, "Okay, Rizo is a good candidate. Because one, he'll use it if he needs it, and disrupt a power dynamic there that probably isn't helpful for me. Or he won't use it, and he'll be a likely target and go home with it in his pocket, and I'll get my idol back." I didn't foresee neither of those happening where he gets to keep it and stays! [Laughs.] Like, there's no disruption to any relationship hierarchies that exist. So that was unfortunate, but fortunate for Rizo.

And then when we ultimately got together, first of all, there are two parts of the idol. One, I didn't tell the people I was working with. And two, I didn't tell Rizo, I didn't tell the people I was working with, because I had already solidified those bonds and extracted the value I needed out of that transparency. And any more was I'd reached a point of diminishing returns.

Right. You already microwaved the trust. You didn't want to overcook it.
Exactly. Medium well — well, medium rare for me personally. But then, when it came to Rizz, I had heard that he had already told people that he got the idol. So I was on the fence of, "Do I want to be transparent?" Once I knew he had told Dee and Cirie, and they had promised him they told no one, I was like, "There's no frickin way they've told no one." So I don't want people knowing this about me.

And so instead, on the spot, I just decided to say, "It didn't come from me. Here's who I was working with. I'm pretty sure that group of old schoolers plus Joe "honor/integrity" would have shared that information that they had it. Thus it must have come from Aubry or Tiffany. They're working very closely together, Rizo. Wait and see. And if one of them claims that they want to work with you and they claim ownership of the idol, that's great. It's a good point. If they don't, then you've got to always be worried about them, because they're setting you up to get it back." And so trying to keep the riffs where I needed them to be so that I had Rizo. But, yeah, it's all moot now! [Laughs.]

You talk about setting up those rifts. And you made a lot of connections with people in the premerge. So who were you looking to get together with once the merge hit?
So I think I ended up having the old schoolers. But I know Cirie and Ozzy were sort of connected more to the other side at that point. They could have gone either way. They were in a good swing spot. So I think sort of the old schoolers plus Rizo plus Joe. And then Tiffany and Aubry were out on me from the swap tribe. And interestingly, Dee and Kamilla and Emily were more open for business. So I think there were options. I think there were things that could have been developed had we done just a big vote. But yeah, it was a total s—t show.

Talk to me more about that. If there was a regular merge vote instead of the "Blood Moon," who were you looking to go after?
I think for the first merge vote, my position would be "anybody but me," honestly. And even though Aubry had her idol, what we had talked about on Vatu and talked about on swapped Kalo was throwing and then trying to flush it. Her and Angelina being an ultimate target was very much a toss-up, because Angelina had connections. And I think if she gets it going, she can really get it going. And then on swapped Kalo, I was much more afraid of Tiffany. Joe and I are kind of dragging our asses in that one challenge that Tiffany just shows up amazing at. And I think unbeknownst to herself, at the time, she really saves herself. Because the plan was to split on them, flush an idol and hopefully vote her out. But it's "anybody but me."

In your Final Words, you talk about transitioning from a Survivor player back to fan. So does that mean you wouldn't come back to play again?
Mike, I am not a good Survivor player. Watch the tapes, it's not good. And let me tell you, I am such a good fan. I nail that. I never lose at being a fan, and that is where I am going to be for the rest of the Survivor journey. Honestly, I would never go back. The only way I would go back is if it was Blood vs. Water, because [my husband] Mark really wants to play. And so I would go and kind of accept the fact that I'm probably DOA again. But also that'd be horrible, Mike. Because then if someone even touched a hair on his head, I would go crazy because that's how I am. So it's just bad. You guys don't want to see that.

Ted Bundy Murdered Utah Teen Over 50 Years Ago, DNA Confirms

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 11:06am

Throughout his murderous reign of terror in the 1970s, serial killer Ted Bundy confessed to killing 30 people, although it's estimated that he actually claimed the lives of more than 100 victims — and one of them was never officially confirmed until now.

On Wednesday, April 1, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office announced that Laura Ann Aime, who was only 17 at the time, was murdered by Bundy in 1974, according to ABC News.

The over 50-year-old cold case murder was finally solved due to DNA evidence recovered from Aime’s body that positively matched Bundy’s DNA profile.

"We can now say, without a doubt, that Theodore 'Ted' Bundy did in fact murder Laura Ann Aime in the fall of 1974, and that law enforcement now has DNA testing results that are compatible with the latest DNA testing standards," Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith said during a press briefing.

"This will make any future DNA test comparison easier for those law enforcement agencies who still have open cases involving Bundy," he added.

Bundy was long suspected of having killed Aime and even confessed to murdering her before his 1989 execution. However, per Sheriff Smith, his confession "was deemed to be not enough evidence to close the case and rule out any other party having committed this crime."

Aime was last seen on Halloween night in 1974, leaving a party. A month later, on Thanksgiving Day, her body was found by two college students hiking in American Fork Canyon.

She was naked and had been severely beaten, strangled, and her body was bound.

Authorities also noted that there are likely still many cold case victims of Bundy whose murders have never been solved, but with new DNA technology, their cases can be definitively closed.

It Started As A Joke: Olipop And Goodwipes Are Making Their April Fools' Collab Real

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 11:00am

Olipop and goodwipes' April Fools' Day "prank" had the internet wishing their Peaches & Cream flushable wipes were real, and in the ultimate April Fools' switch-up, the companies have made the internet's flushable wipes wishes come true and confirmed that the 'joke' was the real prank all along. That's right; the Olipop x goodwipes Peaches & Cream flushable wipes are a real product, and they'll be coming to Walmart and, for a limited time, goodwipes.com.

On April Fools' Day, goodwipes and Olipop revealed their Peaches & Cream flushable wipes collab, the scent for which was supposedly modeled after Olipop's Peaches & Cream prebiotic soda flavor and design. However, much to the disappointment of many commenters, the collaboration announcement post included "#aprilfools," signaling that the new product was just a joke for the notorious prank holiday.

In an unexpected twist, however, Olipop and goodwipes have now revealed that they pulled off a double prank this April Fools' Day, as the Peaches & Cream flushable wipes were real all along. The new product, goodwipes and Olipop have confirmed, will be available at approximately 4,000 Walmart locations nationwide and at walmart.com until August 2026.

In addition to the product rollout, the companies are launching a new comedic video campaign, "Freshology 101," featuring current Jonas Brothers world tour opener DJ Mikey Deleasa, who will be the face of the campaign as the Professor of Freshology.

On April 11, goodwipes will also be sampling Peaches & Cream at the REVOLVE Festival alongside the luxury mobile restroom, The Porta Palace.

While the Peaches & Cream flushable wipes April Fools' Day prank was meant to offer a playful introduction to the product, Olipop and goodwipes have also come together to highlight the importance of digestive health and destigmatize bathroom hygiene by bringing together Olipop's high fiber, low sugar drinks and goodwipes' plant-based, "actually flushable" wipes in a new (and real) collaboration.

Bruce Willis, 71, Spotted in Public for the First Time in Months

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 10:56am

Bruce Willis was recently spotted in public for the first time in months, marking a rare sighting of the beloved actor. The appearance comes as Willis continues to live largely out of the public eye, with fans closely following updates about his health following his 2023 FTD diagnosis.

The Daily Mail posted photos of the iconic Die Hard star, who was seen riding in the passenger's seat of an SUV on Wednesday, April 1. Willis was smiling as he was being transported by an unknown male driver. The actor wore a gray T-shirt and a navy blue, light weight zip-up jacket while out in Los Angeles.

This is the first time that Willis has been seen in quite some time. Following his diagnosis, he retreated from the public eye. The outing comes just about a month after Willis celebrated his 71st birthday.

"Today we celebrate Bruce’s birthday,” Heming Willis captioned an Instagram post on Thursday, March 19. “This journey with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) has opened my eyes to the realities so many families face.”

"It’s what inspired me to create The Emma & Bruce Willis Fund to raise awareness of FTD, support research, and stand beside the caregivers who carry so much every day. If you’d like to honor Bruce today, please consider supporting the fund or another organization working in this space, or simply checking in on a caregiver — a small act of kindness that can mean so much," Heming Willis added.

56 Years Ago Today, This Impactful Biopic Hit Theaters — Before Winning 7 Oscars

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 10:54am

One Battle After Another won a whopping six Academy Awards this year — but back in 1971, the dominant film at the time did one better.

Starring George C. Scott in the titular role, Patton was the big winner at the Oscars 55 years ago with seven victories. It was in 1970 — exactly 56 years ago today (Thursday, April 2) — when the acclaimed biopic was released in theaters, going on to become not only a critically acclaimed movie, but a commercially successful one as well.

For those who haven't seen it, the 1970 film is based on controversial World War II hero General George S. Patton and his wartime activities and accomplishments, beginning with his entry into the North African campaign and ending with his removal from command after his outspoken criticism of U.S. post-war military strategy.

The 43rd Academy Awards were certainly for all the trophies that went to Patton, but particularly for one that went to the film's screenwriters. The biopic was co-written was Hollywood legend Francis Ford Coppola, which means 1971 was the year he won his first-ever Oscar.

Other actors were reportedly considered for the role of Patton — for which Scott won an Oscar — including Lee Marvin, Burt Lancaster, John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and Rod Steiger.

Interestingly, Scott refused the 1971 Academy Award for Best Actor, which caused quite a stir at the time. Scott was a hard-drinking, opinionated man who wasn't particularly well-liked in movie circles, Turner Classic Movies reports, so it wasn't surprising that many of his colleagues felt that his public dismay over simply being nominated was, in fact, a crafty way of campaigning to win the award.

And before all that, Hollywood had reportedly been wanting to make a movie about the WWII general since he passed away in 1945, but his widow Beatrice — and Patton's family after her death — wouldn't allow it. But then, in 1959, the Army began to help with the project.

Kylie Jenner Drops New Video With Daughter Stormi, and Honestly, It Beats the Timothée Chalamet Talk

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 10:51am

Kylie Jenner and beauTimothée Chalametlit up the Internet after posting separate vacation pics on Instagram. Yes, we get it. You’re both on the identical gorgeously scenic beach. At the same time. But not together. But we know you’re together…because you’re in the same place at the same time.

While it seemed like absolutely everyone was talking about the pair’s perfect getaway and thirst-trap selfies, the news story all changed this week when Jenner posted an adorable video of her daughter, Stormi Webster. The mom of two (Stormi was born in February 2018, and little brother Aire Webster was born in February 2022) recently took to Instagram and TikTok, adding the cutest clip of her eight-year-old in mirrored sunglasses, lip-syncing, and dancing to Tiagz's “Muffins In the Freezer.”

The mogul mama’s little girl (whom she shares with ex Travis Scott) is definitely the star of the Jenner clan right now. Forget about Kylie and Timothée, it’s all about Stormi and her confident cuteness!

Fans flocked to Instagram, posting their praise for the eight-year-old’s antics and giving Jenner props on her parenting style. One commenter wrote, “Love love love it every time I see a child who has been allowed to express themselves freely and ends up developing this level of confidence this early,” while another added, “You’re not a regular mom, you’re a cool mom.”

Along with the recent dancing clip, Jenner also posted to her Instagram Stories, giving fans a look at Stormi’s bunny-themed Easter manicure by celeb nail artist Zola Ganzorigt. And what eight-year-old wouldn’t want radiant rabbits on their fingertips? For that matter, what adult wouldn’t adore the holiday manicure?

Of course, this isn’t the first time that the reality TV star/entrepreneur posted a sweet Instagram clip of herself and her kiddo. Last July, Jenner shared a mother-daughter dance moment on board a luxe yacht, captioning it, “built-in bestie for life.” Friends and fans gushed over the video. Fellow reality star and Siesta Key alum Juliette Porter commented, “I want to be Stormi when I grow up,” and Kardashian pal Olivia Pierson wrote, “OMG this is adorable!!!! Perfect mommy & me memory!”

The hands-on mom has also posted plenty of Kylie-Stormi TikToks. In September, Jenner filmed her daughter experimenting with an eyelash curler, lip butter, eye shadow, and a hint of mascara. One commenter praised the makeup mogul mama, writing, “I played with my mom’s makeup when I was a kid. But I did it behind her back. I think Kylie is doing a good job encouraging Stormi to do what she likes in a safe and comfortable environment.”

2000s Legend, Ranked Among the Greatest Wrestlers of All Time, Turns 46

Thu, 04/02/2026 - 10:47am

One of the most recognizable faces of 2000s wrestling, Randy Orton has officially turned 46 on Wednesday, marking another milestone in a career that has spanned more than two decades and cemented his place among the greatest performers in professional wrestling history.

Widely regarded as one of the all-time greats, Orton continues to compete at a high level in WWE, where he remains a central figure on the SmackDown brand.

Even at 46, “The Viper” is still involved in major storylines, recently earning a championship opportunity at WrestleMania 42 after winning the 2026 Elimination Chamber match.

Orton’s legacy is built on consistency, longevity and elite in-ring performance. A third-generation wrestler, he followed the footsteps of his father and grandfather into the ring, debuting in 2000 before quickly rising through WWE’s ranks.

He made history in 2004 by becoming the youngest World Heavyweight Champion at just 24 years old. From there, Orton evolved into one of WWE’s most reliable main-event stars, known for his calculated style and explosive finishing move, the RKO.

Over the years, Orton has captured 14 world championships: 10 WWE Championships and four World Heavyweight Championships, placing him among the top names in company history. He is tied for third-most world title reigns, behind only John Cena and Ric Flair.

Beyond championships, Orton’s résumé includes two Royal Rumble victories (2009, 2017), a Money in the Bank win in 2013, and recognition as both a Triple Crown and Grand Slam Champion. He has also headlined WrestleMania multiple times and holds the record for most pay-per-view matches in WWE history.

Orton’s greatness is not just based on titles. He has consistently been ranked among the best wrestlers of all time. In one notable all-time ranking, he landed at No. 17, an impressive position considering the difficulty of comparing stars across different eras.

The evaluation noted his unmatched ability to perform at a high level, even in slower moments, stating: “I will never get tired of watching him stalk around the ring and hit clutch RKOs.”

The same ranking also compared his role to being “the Macho Man to Cena’s Hogan,” highlighting his importance as both a rival and a standout star in his own right.

Even on his 46th birthday, Orton remains deeply involved in WWE programming. In recent weeks, he has teased a mysterious alliance, repeatedly appearing in segments where he is seen talking on the phone.

The cryptic message has sparked speculation among fans about who might be behind Orton’s recent actions, including his attack on Cody Rhodes.

At the same time, Orton’s feud with Rhodes continues to build momentum heading toward WrestleMania season.

Despite injuries, hiatuses and changing storylines, Orton continues to deliver compelling performances. His recent return from a lengthy injury absence in late 2023 proved he could still compete at an elite level.

As he turns 46, Orton shows no clear signs of slowing down. With a new contract reportedly extending his career and ongoing speculation about a potential retirement tour, fans are watching closely to see what comes next.
