This Is the Midwest’s Coolest Weekend Getaway Right Now—and It’s Not Chicago
When you think hip, vibrant Midwestern cities, you probably think Chicago first—maybe Minneapolis, maybe even Detroit. Milwaukee doesn’t always make the first list. Maybe because it's so close to Chicago, maybe because it's doesn't get the attention of those other big hitters. However, after a few days there in February, I'm ready to call Milwaukee one of the Midwest's hippest cities, and am ready to stand tall on that claim.
What I love about it is that it's only about an hour and a half by car from Chicago, so it’s an easy escape that sill has the Lake Michigan beaches, strong museum lineup and a food-and-drink scene that's worth writing home about. Not only that, Milwaukee was also named the most affordable lakefront destination in the U.S. based on a Beach.com analysis. As we quickly found out, you can easily build a full weekend around the lake, markets, breweries, and patios without going over budget. So much of that is due to the accessibility and ease of getting around. According to Julia Meehan, a a Milwaukee local and communications manager for Visit Milwaukee, "Everything’s within reach. You can do a lot in a weekend without feeling like you spent the whole time getting to the next thing or spending so much on transportation or an Uber," she says.

View this post on Instagram Why Should You Visit Now?There is so much momentum behind the city now. Meehan says visitors are coming from even further away than before, giving the city a chance to shine for people not even located in the Midwest. "It's a much wider range of travelers discovering the city," she says. Additionally, it was named the third-best bit city by Condé Nast Readers in 2025, citing the incredible mix of culture, lake activities, a bustling food and beverage scene, as well as more outdoor pursuits outside the city limits. Plus, with spring in full swing, the festival season is heating up, with the Milwaukee Film Festival in late April, PrideFest in early June, and Summerfest spread across three weekends from late June into early July.

Where to Stay and PlayMeehan points travelers to hotels that fit the Milwaukee aesthetic, and not just big box brands that are only a place to sleep. She recommends The Kimpton Journeyman in the Historic Third Ward because it’s an easy walk to the Milwaukee Public Market and close to the lakefront, plus it has its own built-in rooftop bar, The Outsider, and restaurant Tre Rivali. For something with more Wisconsin charm, book The Pfister, which has been Milwaukee’s grand old hotel for generations, ornate, historic, and a little bit glamorous in the way only a true legacy property can be. Dubbel Dutch if you want a very boutique experience with an incredible cocktail bar downstairs called The Agency.
If you’ve never been to the city, Meehan recommends starting at Milwaukee Public Market, home to 19 independent vendors with seafood, cheese curds, pastries, coffee, spices, and gifts. She then suggests walking to 3rd Street Market Hall for another lap of food and local drinks. If you're traveling with kids in tow, you can't miss their acclaimed science and technology museum, Discovery World. This hands-on adventure lets you tinker with robots and do experiments. Attached is the Reiman Aquarium, which has interactive exhibits that let the little ones touch stingrays and sturgeons. After this, Meehan suggests heading straight to the lakefront.
“Lake Michigan is part of who we are,” she says. “Walk it, or get out on the water if you can.” From there, it’s easy to build the day around the RiverWalk, a couple hours at the Milwaukee Art Museum or Harley-Davidson Museum, and some shopping in the Historic Third Ward (for art gallery browsing, boutiques procuring, and design-forward fashion stops). If you want a nature reset, take the long way along the water through Lakeshore State Park or Lake Park, both offer lush green spaces to walk and lounge, as well as scenic views of the lake.

Where to EatFor Meehan, it's hard to pick a favorite restaurant in the city, because the culinary influence varies so much. “You can discover something new here every day,” she says. "I love that the new openings continue to build on a strong, deeply rooted food and drink culture.” However, some of her recommendations are Cassis for a proper bistro night with steak frites and beef tartare on the table, or Three Brothers for an old-school way with burek (beef, cheese, or spinach-and-cheese), sarma, and Serbian salad. If you want something cozy that still feels like a night out, Goodkind has a mouthwatering 1/2 Amish rotisserie chicken and spicy crab pasta. For date night, she points you to Bacchus, where the menu can run from yellowfin tuna crudo to Muscovy duck breast.
One of the best meals I not only had in Milwaukee but anywhere this year was Saffron in the Historic Third Ward. It’s tucked into a narrow building with a long white quartz bar and a glowing dining room dressed up with chandeliers, plus a river-side patio when the weather cooperates. I recommend starting with the samosa sampler, then opting for the Saffron Butter Chicken (smoked chicken, red pepper-tomato sauce, fenugreek) or the Lamb Biryani that literally melts in your mouth. The cocktail list is worthy of a look too, especially the Gin & Jade (honeydew-infused gin with an aroma diffuser moment) or the Ube Monk.

1975 Career-Defining Hit for Willie Nelson Wasn't Originally Sung By Him
One of Willie Nelson's biggest hits of the '70s was actually written decades earlier.
"Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain," which was recorded by Nelson in 1975 and helped launch him into country music superstardom, was originally written by Fred Rose in 1945, and had been covered by a number of other artists before Nelson put out his version.
Nelson included "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" on his breakthrough concept album Red Headed Stranger in May 1975, before releasing it as a single later that summer. It would go on to earn Nelson his first-ever No. 1 hit, cementing his arrival on the country music scene.
"Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain," originally sung by Roy Acuff in 1947, had already been covered by several other stars before Nelson, including Conway Twitty (1970), Elvis Presley (1976), Olivia Newton-John (1976), Eva Cassidy (2008) and more. But it was Nelson who turned the song into a chart-topping success.
View this post on InstagramIn October 1975, it reached the top of Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, where it stayed for two weeks in a row. It opened the door to the mainstream for more of Nelson's songs, including "Good Hearted Woman," which hit No. 1 in early 1976, and "If You've Got the Money I've Got the Time," which reached the summit of the country chart in September 1976.
"Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" peaked at #21 on Billboard'sHot 100, and later secured Nelson his first Grammy win for Best Country Vocal Performance at the 1976 ceremony.
To this day, with Nelson now having 12 Grammys and more than 20 No. 1 hits, "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" is still regarded as one of the best songs of his career. Rolling Stone crowned it as the No. 1 Best Willie Nelson Song and ranks it #27 on the list of the 200 Greatest Country Songs of All Time.

Taco Bell Is Launching Its First-Ever ‘St. Augustine-Style’ Menu Item This Week
Taco Bell just announced it's days away from launching a new menu item, and believe it or not, it just so happens to be a first for the company.
On Tuesday, the cult-favorite Mexican-inspired chain announced it had teamed up with another legendary icon to introduce a "first-of-its-kind" sauce made with Zab's "St. Augustine Style" hot sauce and Taco Bell's Spicy Ranch, marking the first-ever Datil Pepper hot sauce partnership.

The recipe is then topped off with a sweet and spicy blend of Zab’s "St. Augustine Style" Sauce (which the hot sauce brand calls a tribute to how traditional Datil Pepper sauces are made, where the peppers are grown in St. Augustine, Fla.) and Taco Bell’s Spicy Ranch, starring a "creamy kick of Datil Pepper heat."

Beloved Classic TV Star Honors Iconic Producer Who Changed 1970s Kids’ Television Forever
Butch Patrick paid tribute to legendary television producer Sid Krofft following his death at age 96. On April 13, The Munsters child star posted a lengthy tribute to Facebook that included several photos of him at fan events with the iconic TV creator and puppeteer.
Patrick, 72, also credited Krofft for convincing him to return to acting after a failed movie. “Very sad today,” the actor wrote. “My dear buddy Sid Krofft passed away peacefully at his home this morning. What a great life he had.“
“A very long time ago, Sid convinced me over lunch to spend my summer of 71 at Paramount Studios,” Patrick continued. "On stage 8, I would spend 11 weeks filming a little Saturday morning show called Lidsville. Never in my wildest dreams did I think of the impact that sandwich with Sid would have. At that point in my life, I was done with Hollywood. Had a huge movie go south. No interest to work. I didn’t know much about the Kroffts. Marty was the guy who kept calling. But Sid closed the deal. He was such a kind soul. He was so convincing, I even cut my hair to play the part of Mark. BIG deal back then when we all had hair like Led Zeppelin.”
In addition to his memories of the Saturday morning TV hit, Patrick recalled the 2022 Krofft Kon at the Orinda Theater, which honored the legendary producing duo Sid and Marty Krofft just one year before Marty’s death.
“Sid was loved by all,” Patrick wrote. “Thanks again, my friend, for a lunch that changed my life.”

Lidsville, created by Canadian sibling duo the Krofft brothers, aired on ABC from 1971 to 1972. The 17-episode series featured Patrick as a teen boy, Mark, who fell into a magician’s hat and landed in a psychedelic world of living hat people.
Character actor Charles Nelson Reilly played Merlin the magician and his alter ego Horatio J. HooDoo, while Billie Hayes played a genie named Weenie.
The Kroffts changed Saturday morning TVLidsville was one of many Saturday morning children’s TV shows produced by the Krofft brothers in the 1970s. The duo also created H.R. Pufnstuf, The Bugaloos, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, Land of the Lost, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, and more. Most of the shows featured puppets or animation along with live action.
Sid Krofft once explained the inspiration for Lidsville in an interview with The Television Academy Foundation. "I do a lot of my creating running down the beach. I run nine miles every day,” he shared. “And I had all these running hats in my van. Each day I had another hat, and I always felt that hats had a personality depending on how you felt, and it gave you a personality. And so that's where that idea came from, the land of hats.”
Krofft noted that TV show pitches became “more and more elaborate” over the years. “We had a huge art department, and we just had a blast, you know, creating all those characters,” he said.

Another Krofft kid paid tributeIn addition to Patrick, fellow former child star Johnny Whitaker recalled Krofft’s kindness when he was a star on Sigmund and the Sea Monsters in the early 1970s.
Whitaker, who played a teen who befriended a friendly sea monster on the series, posted to Facebook to pay tribute to his “mentor, co-worker and most important, forever friend.”
“I had the privilege of getting to work closely with this genius and show business legend and his brother,” Whitaker wrote. "They were very different, but each had their style bringing to life countless characters and stories. Sid was the creative genius and Marty was the business mind, and the two made a perfect pair of Creative Genius melded with Business Savvy, hutzpah and true grit.”
“I was a non-credited producer on Sigmund and the Sea Monsters but was given 5% of the NET profits as a Producer,” Whitaker shared. "Sid had that much faith in me and my experience as an actor and young producer and I got to make decisions very few 13-year-old actors get. …Sid, you will be missed, my mentor & forever friend.”

Kate Middleton and Prince William’s Romantic Post-Wedding Moment Revealed: Lip Reader
Kate Middleton and Prince William shared a romantic moment during a carriage ride following their 2011 wedding, according to a lip reader.
CBS News cited professional lip reader Tina Lannin in its coverage of the royal nuptials 15 years ago. Her analysis offered new insight into the couple’s private moments during the celebration.
Lannin interpreted the couple’s private comments, which were not audible to the public, throughout the ceremony. While cameras focused closely on the pair, several moments went unnoticed by viewers but were later picked up through lip-reading analysis.
One of the most romantic of these was captured as the couple sat in the open-top 1902 State Landau carriage and rode through the streets of London, back to Buckingham Palace. The carriage was the same one used by Prince Charles and Princess Diana in 1981 reported the royal family's official website.

Lannin stated that Kate said to William, “You look happy.” Those three words reflected a quiet, intimate moment between the couple as they enjoyed the occasion.
Other moments captured by the lip reader included when William first saw Kate arriving at the head of the aisle at Westminster Abbey. The first words deciphered were by William's brother and best man, Prince Harry.

"Right, here she is now," Harry told his brother. As Kate met William at the altar, he told her, "You look lovely. You look beautiful."
William then reportedly joked with Kate's father, Michael Middleton, about the 1900 guests who attended the wedding ceremony at the Abbey. "We're supposed to have just a small family affair."
Later, as Kate and William made their first appearance as a married couple on the Buckingham Palace balcony alongside other senior royals such as Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, then-Prince Charles, and Camilla Parker Bowles, they exchanged more private words.

William appeared to ask Kate, "Alright? You'll be okay?" She responded, "Oh I'm fine, thank you."
The prince then commented, "There's a lot of people down here." He then told Kate, "Okay? Look at me, let's kiss, okay." They then kissed a second time, delighting the crowds in the mall below.
According to the royal family's website, Queen Elizabeth hosted a reception for the couple and their guests at Buckingham Palace in the hours after they were married. Charles hosted a private dinner for the couple that evening.
Kate Middleton and Prince William celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary on April 29. They are parents to three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Get it on Amazon90 Years Later, the World's Most Famous Photo Exposes the Dark Side of Viral Fame: 'I Wish She Hadn't Taken My Picture'
April 14 marks the anniversary of Black Sunday. On that day in 1935, a mountain of black dust swallowed the sun and turned midday into midnight, officially starting the Dust Bowl. That storm displaced millions, sending them toward California in rusted-out trucks. While the dust eventually settled, the controversy over the era's most iconic photograph remains for some a lesson in how to use someone’s image for a good cause.
It sparked the ultimate question of privacy: who owns your face when you are at your absolute lowest?
The History of Dorothea Lange and the Famous 'Migrant Mother' PhotoA year after the storm, Dorothea Lange was driving through a California rainstorm. A government photographer on the road for a month, she was already twenty miles past a sign for a pea-pickers' camp in Nipomo when a gut instinct made her turn the car around.
Ten minutes later, she found Florence Owens Thompson.
Thompson was just 32, a widowed mother from Oklahoma. Her family lived in a lean-to tent, surviving on frozen vegetables and birds the children killed. In a hurried ten-minute encounter, Lange took five photos. According to the photographer, she didn't ask for a name, a life story, or permission to transform Thompson into a global symbol of suffering. Lange focused on the etched lines of worry on Thompson’s face and, according to Thompson's children, even staged the way they leaned into their mother to maximize the emotional weight of the photo.
The True Story of Florence Owens Thompson and the Ethics of the Dust Bowl PhotoWhen the pictures hit the newspapers, it was an instant sensation. It achieved its political purpose: the government, moved by the family’s misery, rushed 20,000 pounds of food to the camp.
But there was a catch: by the time the food trucks arrived, Thompson and her seven children were already gone, drifting to the next farm in search of work. They never received the aid their own faces had triggered.
Florence Thompson and family. (Source: Dorothea Lange via Getty)Photo by Fotosearch on Getty Images
The image, now known as "Migrant Mother," became one of the most reproduced photographs in history. It appeared on stamps and became known as the Mona Lisa of the Great Depression. However, because Lange was a government employee, the photo was public domain. While the world marveled at the masterpiece, Thompson didn't get recognition. "I wish she hadn't taken my picture," Thompson remarked years later. "I can't get a penny out of it. [Lange] didn’t ask my name. She said she wouldn’t sell the pictures. She said she’d send me a copy. She never did."
From 1936 to TikTok: The Fight Over Modern Privacy RightsLange claimed the photo served a greater social good, proving that the Dust Bowl was a human tragedy, and not a weather report. For Thompson, that good came at the cost of her identity. For decades, she was the most recognizable face in America, but she remained entirely anonymous.
The modern discussion over filming strangers in crisis has its roots in that muddy tent in 1936 as critics say the subject provides the content, the creator gets the credit, and the audience gets to feel something without actually helping the person on the screen. For Thompson, the fame came full circle in 1983 when she was dying of cancer and unable to afford her medical bills. Her children turned to the press, revealing the woman behind the icon. The public responded by donating over $35,000 for her care.
1984 Rock Hit That Echoes an AC/DC Classic Became Fans’ Secret Anthem
Van Halen’s “Drop Dead Legs” is a classic rock hit with swagger and a mid-tempo groove driven by Eddie Van Halen’s righteous riff. A rock flex from thekings of guitar shred, the track is an underappreciated deep cut only the most devoted fans treat like a secret anthem.
Its biggest fan might just be EVH himself, with American Songwriter sharing that in 2009, the late guitarist and founding band member said, “One of my favorite songs of ours is ‘Drop Dead Legs.' Whether it’s a hit or not, to me, I love that song.”
@tomshredsDid you know this Van Halen classic was actually inspired by AC/DC? I've always thought there was a Back in Black vibe, especially with that G/B chord. But while the influence is definitely present, it's also undeniably Van Halen sounding. After sitting down to learn this a few weeks back, I was surprised by how hard it is to play. I assumed it would flow easily based off how smooth & funky it sounds when Eddie plays it, but I couldn't have been more wrong. It's a very idiosyncratic riff, twisting and bending along, like a disturbing hybrid of Malcom Young & Gumby. It's believed Edward used his 58' Flying V for this, as well as Jump, Girl Gone Bad & Hot For Teacher. It's curious that he favoured the Flying V so much on 1984, but that incredible tone he pulled speaks for itself! My guitar is tuned to match the song using Allen Garber's 'sweetened tuning for the StroboPlus HDC entitled 'DDL'. Highly recommend for playing along with the classic VH tunes. #evh #eddievanhalen #vanhalen #davidleeroth #80srock #1984 #classicrock #guitar #guitarist #guitarcover #amplitube @petersonstrobetuners
♬ original sound - TomShredsIn a 2014 interview with Guitar World, the rock legend went even further, sharing his inspiration for the track’s guitar solo.
“That was inspired by AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black’,” he readily admitted. “I was grooving on that beat. Although I think that ‘Drop Dead Legs’ is slower. Whatever I listen to somehow is filtered through me and comes out differently. So ‘Drop Dead Legs’ is almost a jazz version of ‘Back in Black.’ The descending progression is similar. But I put a lot more notes in there.”
Recorded at Eddie Van Halen’s 5150 Studios and released on the band’s landmark 1984 album — you know, the one with the smokin’ baby angel on its cover — the side-A closing track was never released as a single, and therefore never charted. Feats of that ilk were conquered by “Jump,” “I’ll Wait,” “Panama,” and “Hot for Teacher.”
Still, the track became a cult classic all the same — “Drop Dead Legs” is the kind of song fans don’t just remember, they swear by.
Van Halen's New EraThe diamond-certified full-length 1984 debuted the band’s new sound, fusing hard rock with synthesizer pop sounds, but also marked the farewell of frontman David Lee Roth. Peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, the album was second only to Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
Today, Van Halen is back in the headlines, not with 1984, but with their Sammy Hagar debut, 5150, which finally broke into the U.K. charts with its reissue 40 years later. According to Forbes, the band’s seventh album debuted on three charts across the pond, hitting No. 51 on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums charts, and No. 59 on the most downloaded collections in the country.

11 Phrases That Make You 'Instantly Unlikable' in Group Settings, According to an Etiquette Expert
Have you ever been around a group of people and felt like something was off or like you weren’t clicking with them? If so, you might have wondered to yourself, “Was it something I said?” And truth be told... it might have been. In fact, sometimes a comment can rub someone the wrong way, even if you didn’t mean it to. To help you know what common sayings can be misinterpreted or can paint you in a bad light around others, we rounded up 11 phrases that can instantly make you unlikable, specifically in group settings.
Nick Leighton—an Emmy Award-winning journalist and co-host of the etiquette and manners podcast Were You Raised By Wolves?—has seen this happen time and time again with people. He breaks down everything for Parade: what you need to know about certain things that you may want to think twice about before saying them out loud the next time you’re in a group. Because while you may be saying something out of frustration, in a sarcastic way or even as a joke, that doesn’t always mean it will come across in a positive—or even neutral—way. Instead, it can make others around you judge your character, even if it's not an accurate portrayal of who you are.
See if you’re guilty of saying any of these phrases that can make you instantly unlikable in a group of people. That way, you can be more cautious of using them going forward and replace them with alternative things in the future. Your conversations might flow more smoothly and your colleagues and friends might be more receptive. Over time, these small changes can have a big impact on your personal and professional relationships, which will help you communicate more effectively and leave a positive impression wherever you go.

11 Phrases That Make You Instantly Unlikable in Group Settings, Etiquette Expert WarnsYou may want to avoid these sayings and phrases the next time you get together with others.
1.“I don’t mean to be rude, but…”If you start a conversation with this phrase, Leighton says the other person or people you're talking to already know that whatever is going to follow it is going to be cruel. And this is one of those sayings that even you know might come off as mean or rude.
"Saying a sentence that includes this phrase makes you unlikable in a group setting because you are basically admitting that you know what you're about to say is offensive or rude; it isn’t an accident," he tells Parade.
2. “Anyway…”Dropping “Anyway…” into a conversation can make you seem dismissive or impatient, according to Leighton. In group settings, it can make people feel unheard or unvalued, which can quietly erode your likability over time—even if your intention was just to move the conversation along.
3. “I told you so.”Leighton says this phrase can make you seem smug, condescending or unsympathetic, especially in front of others, as it highlights someone else’s mistake rather than offering help, which can damage relationships and make people less willing to trust or engage with you in the future.
"Etiquette prizes clear, direct and polite communication, but being passive-aggressive isn’t that," he shares. "Next time, in place of 'I told you so,' you can say something like, 'What do you think happened?'”

4. “Why are you so sensitive?”When it comes to sayings that make a person unlikable, this is one of them.
"'Why are you so sensitive?' dismisses the other person’s feelings and shifts the attention from the speaker’s words to the receiver’s reaction," Leighton notes. "It’s not really a question at all or a concern. Instead, it’s deflection."
Related: 11 Phrases To Use if Someone Says You're 'Too Sensitive'
5. “Calm down.”"I have yet to meet the person who actually calmed down when they were told to," Leighton states. "Saying this isn’t the best way to de-escalate a situation."
Instead, he points out that saying this in a group setting can make you seem dismissive or condescending, which often alienates others. Opposed to helping, it can escalate tension because it implies that someone’s feelings are overblown or not valid. And in front of a group, it can make you come across as insensitive or even controlling.
6. “No offense, but…”Very similar to #1 above, this is a no-go, non-starter.
"Whenever you start a sentence with, 'No offense, but...' whatever you’re going to say next is definitely going to be offensive. You don’t get a pass just because you put a disclaimer on it," Leighton explains.
Related: 7 Common Things That Make You ‘Instantly Unlikable’ to Your In-Laws, According to Psychologists
7. “I’m just being honest.”Leighton states that saying something like, “I’m just being honest,” can make you seem blunt, insensitive or self-righteous. Because of that, it doesn't make you appear to be very friendly or likable. While honesty is valuable, framing your words this way often comes across as an excuse for being tactless, disregarding others’ feelings and signaling that you value truth over empathy.
8. “Relax, it was just a joke.”"Saying 'Relax, it was just a joke' isn’t actually the reassurance people think it is," Leighton reveals. He adds that if you have to explain yourself after telling a joke, it was probably rude and that makes you unlikable. If you're in a group setting, it can make you appear contemptuous of others’ feelings and undermine your likability, even if your intention was lighthearted.
"Real humor lands on its own—explaining it can make you seem insensitive or out of touch, because it highlights that someone was hurt or offended," he says.
9. “Wow, really?”On the surface, this may seem like a neutral response, but according to Leighton, the tone or context can come across as sarcastic, judgmental or skeptical. In group conversations, it can make people feel mocked, which can quietly damage your likability—even if you didn’t mean to be critical. Tone and body language matter just as much as words.
Instead of saying that, he mentions there are alternatives. "Something like 'Wow, really?' can be 'What led you to that?'" he explains.
10. “I guess I'll just do it myself.”"Saying something like [this] is an example of a classic passive-aggressive line," Leighton shares. "Being passive-aggressive is rude and will make you unlikable if you use phrases like this when speaking with others."
11. “I’m not trying to be mean, but seriously?”Leighton reveals that even though this common phrase is meant to soften criticism, it often backfires. So why can it make you unlikable? He says it highlights judgment while pretending to excuse it, making you come across as sarcastic or condescending. In group settings, it can make others feel embarrassed or attacked, which quickly damages your likability.
How To Avoid These Phrases Altogether—in Groups or Just in GeneralTo avoid saying these likability-killing phrases, one simple strategy is to pause and think before you speak. As Leighton notes, "Just take a beat before you respond. No response is sometimes the best response of all." This gives you a moment to prevent averse or sarcastic comments, like “Anyway…” or “Calm down.”
Another tactic is to be clear and confident with your words.
"Own your opinions and don’t add disclaimers," he shares. "If your feedback or observation, just say it directly."
In other words, speaking directly and respectfully—without prefaces like, “I’m just being honest” or “I’m not trying to be mean”—helps you communicate effectively and remain likable in both groups and one-on-one interactions.
How To Become More Likable in a GroupShowing genuine interest and respect for others’ perspectives is key to being likable in a group setting.
"Using a phrase like, 'Tell me more about that,' signals that you’re listening actively and genuinely care about what others have to say," Leighton expresses. "People like people who make them feel seen, and showing genuine interest in others is a good way to do that."
Acknowledging others’ ideas also strengthens connections when you're in a group and makes you more likable. He mentions that something similar to, “That’s a great point. I hadn’t thought of it that way," is another alternative, as it shows you’re open to having your views challenged.
"It’s important to realize that your way isn’t always the only way," he shares. "Showing that you’re willing to have your beliefs challenged shows confidence and intellectual honesty when you're with others. It also makes the other person/people feel validated, too."
One more thing Leighton recommends throwing into a convo to make you appear more friendly is to invite participation.
"Try including a statement like, 'What do you think?'" he suggests. "It is simple, but often overlooked. Asking for others’ opinions shows that you value their input, and in group settings, it helps bring quieter people into the conversation—something good social etiquette always encourages."
Lastly, he points out the value of humility.
"You'll be surprised how saying, 'I don’t know, what are your thoughts?' can make you more likeable," he reveals. "Admitting when you don’t know something is a strength and lets other people weigh in who might."

Mexico City Is Finally Getting Its First-Ever Park Hyatt
If you’ve checked a flight price or a headlines lately, you know that Mexico City is currently one of the most talked-about destinations right now. We are officially in the countdown to the 2026 World Cup, which kicks off there in June. The fervor is everywhere—from the reimagined Fan Fests in the Zócalo to the murals popping up in Roma Norte. It’s a city preparing to show the world that it's the undisputed capital of culture, food and design.
But for the traveler who wants to soak up that energy without the 80,000-person crowds, the real story starts this fall. Slated to open in late 2026, the Park Hyatt Mexico City is timing its debut for the exact moment the city transitions from "global stadium" back to its most sophisticated, soulful self.
Located on the prestigious Campos Elíseos in the heart of Polanco, this isn't just another luxury opening. Deeply rooted in Mexican heritage, it’s an Aztec-inspired sanctuary for those who want to be immersed in the city’s legendary energy from a more intimate, elevated perspective.
Here's why this fall opening is the ultimate smart splurge for your 2026 return.

A Design That Feels Like a Deep CutPark Hyatt Mexico City
Walking into a Park Hyatt usually feels like exhaling, but the Mexico City property adds a layer of "spirit" not seen in a while. The architecture is a sophisticated blend of refined Art Deco elegance and bold Aztec-inspired details. It’s that intersection of the city’s deep heritage and its modern, architectural future. With a modest 155 rooms and suites, it maintains a boutique scale that's hard to find in the city's largest towers, complete with floor-to-ceiling views of Chapultepec Park or the city's neon-lit skyline

The Polanco PerkFor the uninitiated, Polanco is the city’s epicenter of upscale living—think of it as the local haunt for those who appreciate world-class museums, high-end galleries and some of the best shopping on the continent. Staying here means you’re just a short stroll from the Chapultepec Castle or the iconic Soumaya Museum. Whether you're here for the World Cup matches at Estadio Azteca or just to soak in the artsy energy of Roma Norte, Polanco serves as the ultimate, "safe-haven" anchor.
Gastronomy and Agave CulturePark Hyatt Mexico City
The dining scene here is leaning heavily into contemporary Mexican gastronomy with a focus on fresh, sustainable seafood from the Baja peninsula.
- The Specialty Restaurant: The sharp, modern setting sets the stage for the chef-led menu that focuses on the deep-rooted stories of Mexican cuisine.
- The Bar: The bar focuses on agave spirits and artisanal cocktails. It’s the kind of spot where the mixologists are as much historians as they are bartenders.
Perhaps the most "Park Hyatt" element of the hotel is the spa. It features a revitalizing hydrotherapy circuit and custom scents designed to restore harmony after a day spent navigating the city's altitude and energy. There’s even a refreshing outdoor pool tucked beneath a canopy of green—a rare, tranquil escape from the urban vibrance below.
1970 Emotional Hit Topped the Charts, Now It's Named One of the Decade's Best
In 1970, one heartfelt hit captured both warmth and heartbreak, telling a story that stayed with listeners long after it ended.
James Taylor’s “Fire and Rain” comes from a deeply personal place. It captures the loss of a friend and Taylor's struggles during a turbulent time in his life.
According to U Discover Music, the heartfelt song is ranked one of the decade's best in the Adult/Album Oriented Rock category. It's unofficially listed at No. 3 after Eagles' "Hotel California," Chicago's "If You Leave Me Now," and just before Patti Smith's "Because the Night."

When woven together, each of these verses tells part of a deeply personal story. Combined, they capture a period shaped by loss, difficulty, and introspection.
Taylor told the outlet, "At the time, I was recording in England with The Beatles, and my friends had sort of kept the information about [Susanne's] death from me because they thought, you know, 'This is a crucial time for him, he's doing his work, and we don't want to upset him or bring him down.'"
The second verse, about drug addiction, was "when I came back to this country from London and was surprised that I'd picked up a habit. So I was physically very uncomfortable and having a rough time." The final told of his stay at a mental hospital in Stockbridge, where he checked himself in from 1965 through 1966, according to Biography.

Taylor told NPR that writing the now-iconic song came "very, very fast. But it was a great relief. That song relieved a lot of sort of tension."
He added, " There were things that I needed to get rid of or at least get out of me or get in front of me or at least have some other relationship than feeling them internally. But it was actually a relief, like a laugh or a sigh."
James Taylor is actively touring in 2026 with his All-Star Band. He has dates scheduled from April through September in the United States.

1967 Classic Rock Anthem Ranked Among the ‘Greatest Songs of All Time’—‘One of the Most Beautiful Songs Ever Written’
In 1967, Procol Harum had a hit single with “A Whiter Shade of Pale.” The debut single from the English rock band helped define the Summer of Love, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 on July 29, 1967.
Rolling Stone ranked “A Whiter Shade of Pale” one of the greatest songs of all time. Describing the song as “a somber hymn supported by an organ theme straight out of Bach... Procol Harum’s 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' was unlike anything else on the radio in 1967.”
More than 50 years later, the song remains one of the most played records ever on British radio, according to The Guardian.
Not only is it one of the commercially successful singles in history, with more than 10 million copies sold worldwide, “A Whiter Shade of Pale” has been covered by more than 1,000 artists over the years, per American songwriter.
Procol Harum was inspired by classical music“A Whiter Shade of Pale” was written by Keith Reid, Gary Brooker, and Matthew Fisher. The music was inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach’s Air on the G String (from Orchestral Suite No. 3) . Songwriter Reid once told Uncut magazine that he based the lyrics around one line that came into his head.
“I had the phrase ‘a whiter shade of pale.’ That was the start, and I knew it was a song,” he shared in the interview. “It’s like a jigsaw where you’ve got one piece, then you make up all the others to fit in. I was trying to conjure a mood as much as tell a straightforward, girl-leaves-boy story. With the ceiling flying away and room humming harder, I wanted to paint an image of a scene…I wasn’t trying to be mysterious with those images, I was trying to be evocative.”

Amazingly, the hit single did not appear on Procol Harum’s debut album when it was originally released in the UK in 1967.
Speaking with Classic Rock, Brooker explained that the single “had sold enormous numbers” before the full album was recorded. “I should think that everybody – I’m not exaggerating, everybody – had it,” he said of the song. “So we felt it would be cheating people to make them buy it again. That was our logic. It made perfect sense at the time.”
“I think anybody would be happy to have such a success,” he said of the band’s No. 1 UK and sole U.S. Top 10 single.
A live version of the song was released 40 years laterDecades after “A Whiter Shade of Pale” was first released, a live version of the song was recorded in Ledreborg Castle in Denmark. The live album, Concert with the Danish National Concert Orchestra and Choir, was released in 2009.
The music website The Music Man noted, “Procol Harum’s ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ is said by many to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written, but when the band played it alongside the Danish National Concert Orchestra and Choir, it somehow became even more powerful.”
The live collaboration with the orchestral backing received more than 99 million views online, the outlet revealed.
Delta Just Announced 3 Game-Changing Upgrades for Coach Passengers
If you’ve ever flown 10 hours overseas, you know that specific kind of "Long-Haul Lottery." You spend weeks hoping you’ll board one of the newer planes with the good screens and plush seats, only to walk down the jet bridge and find a vintage bird with a seat cushion that feels like a park bench and a headphone jack that requires a dongle you definitely left at home.
That gamble is finally coming to an end.
Delta just announced a massive, $1 billion "nose-to-tail" fleet transformation. Instead of just focusing on the fancy suites at the front, they are bringing "bespoke" design and practical comforts all the way to the back. It’s a move that focuses on the physical reality of being a person in a middle seat for half a day. As Mauricio Parise, Delta’s VP of Brand Experience, put it: “The experience should feel familiar—creating a sense of home and comfort when you’re away.”
Here are the three upgrades that are going to make your next trip feel a lot more human.

View this post on Instagram 1. Memory Foam in Every RowIn a win for anyone who has ever tried to find a comfortable sleeping position at 30,000 feet, Delta is ditching the standard, stiff airline padding. Starting with their brand-new aircraft and rolling out to their existing fleet, every single seat is getting a memory foam cushion. It’s a huge relief for your back, designed to stay comfortable through those middle-of-the-night hours when you're just trying to get a few hours of shut-eye.

2. Bluetooth for EveryoneWe can finally say goodbye to the "headphone scramble." Delta is making 4K QLED screens with Bluetooth connectivity the new standard. This means you can finally use your own noise-canceling headphones without digging for an adapter or settling for those scratchy, one-size-fits-all earbuds. Whether you’re catching up on a movie or just trying to drown out the engine noise with a podcast, you can finally stay wireless.
3. The End of the "Clutter" CabinWe’ve all dealt with that cramped feeling where there’s nowhere to put your phone or glasses without them disappearing into the seat pocket abyss. The new cabin design includes a dedicated seatback shelf in Delta Comfort and the Main Cabin to keep your personal items within reach. Plus, they’re adding an always-open, self-serve snack station for the long-haul routes. While it’s starting in the front, the goal of this $1B refresh is to make sure everyone has a little more control over their own space and their own schedule.
Bottom LineThis billion-dollar investment feels like a major shift in how airlines think about us. It’s moving away from the "transactional" feeling of travel and back toward something that feels a bit more like hospitality. From the "candlelit" mood lighting that helps you transition through time zones to those tactile seat controls, Delta is betting that if they make the cabin feel more like home, we might actually enjoy the journey.
By refreshing 800 planes over the next five years, they’re basically guaranteeing that you won't have to cross your fingers for the "good plane" anymore.

Target’s 'Resort-Like' $160 Chaise Lounge Chair Brings Vacation Vibes Straight to Your Patio
Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
A five-star vacation might not be on the calendar (or in budget) right now, but that doesn’t mean your backyard can’t step in and step up. There are plenty of ways to bring the luxury vibes home — string lights for a soft glow, a patio table setup for outdoor dinners, maybe even a few potted plants to make the space feel lush and lived-in. But if you’re really chasing that poolside, resort energy, it usually comes down to one thing: Having a dedicated spot where you can actually stretch out and relax.
That’s where the Costway Outdoor Chaise Lounge Chair comes in. At $160, marked down 47% from its original $300 at Target, it delivers that laid-back, hotel-pool energy without the travel plans, luggage, or bank-breaking stress. Just set it out in the sun, lean back, and you may even find yourself thinking about putting up that “out of office” status message.
Costway Outdoor Chaise Lounge Chair, $160 (was $300) at Target Shop at TargetThis sleek-looking lounge chair is designed to make outdoor relaxing feel easy, customizable, and genuinely comfortable, no matter how you like to unwind. The seven-level adjustable backrest gives you a lot of flexibility — fully flat when you want to stretch out and sunbathe, slightly reclined for lounging with a drink, or more upright when you’re reading, chatting, eating, or watching the kids play.
Built with hand-woven polyethylene (PE) rattan over a reinforced metal frame, the chair is made for outdoor use while keeping its structure and look over time. The PE wicker is fade-resistant and sun-protective, so it holds up well through repeated exposure to the elements. It also has a naturally breathable feel if you choose to use it without the cushion on hot days. Underneath, the sturdy frame can support up to 400 pounds, and adjustable foot pads help stabilize the chair on uneven surfaces like patios, decks, or garden stone, so it stays steady wherever you place it.
For comfort, it includes a thick, high-density sponge cushion that adds a soft, supportive layer across the lounging surface. The cushion is secured with buckles, so it stays in place even as you shift positions. A removable, machine-washable cover makes cleaning straightforward. There’s also an under-seat storage compartment built in, which is a useful detail for keeping essentials like a book, phone, or sunglasses within easy reach.
Shoppers have made it clear in the reviews section that this “resort-like” lounge chair is of “great value for the price.” One shopper wrote, “The frame feels sturdy, and the adjustable backrest makes it easy to switch from sitting up with a book to fully lying down for sunbathing.” That same reviewer added that the “cushions are thick enough to be comfortable for hours” of relaxation, and that the fabric “handles sun and light rain well without fading.”

Starbucks previews upcoming cups, tumblers and merch for summer 2026.As for the upcoming Starbucks x Miffy partnership, it appears Starbucks is playing into Miffy's curious nature, leaving most of the details to fans' imagination, at least for now—it did promise to share more in May.
While much of the collaboration is still being kept under wraps, what Starbucks is comfortable sharing at the moment is the suggestion that it's a totally "irresistible drinkware and lifestyle collection" that captures Miffy’s "playful curiosity and gentle charm," using it as an invitation to "slow down, sip, and savor the sweetest moments of the season."
And even with no photos of the collection just yet, fans are sure "ppl are gonna line up like sheep" for it.
"NO WAY MIFFY BRO," another rejoiced.
When Will the New Starbucks Cups, Tumblers and Summer-Inspired Merch Drop?Starbucks didn't explicitly say when its Road Trip-inspired collection would drop, but we would assume it would be the same day as the official release of its summer menu (Tuesday, May 12). So if you haven't grabbed one of its spring-inspired cups, consider the next couple of weeks your final countdown.
As for the Miffy collab, surprisingly, Starbucks did reveal when it would be available. While there are plenty of more details still to come, Starbucks x Miffy is due out the following Tuesday (May 19) in both the U.S. and Canada.
