1985 No. 1 Art Rock Hit Became the Anthem of a Cult Classic Still Beloved 37 Years Later

Mon, 04/13/2026 - 11:00pm

April 14, 2026, marks the 37th anniversary of the release of the romantic comedy-drama film Say Anything, in which actor John Cusack stars opposite Ione Skye as Lloyd Dobler and Diane Court

The movie, which debuted in theaters by 20th Century Fox on April 14, 1989, is a coming-of-age film that captures the intensity of first love and focuses on the unlikely pairing of two high school graduates. Cusack’s character is an unconventional dreamer without a future plan, while Skye’s role is that of a class valedictorian who is headed for academic success

Regardless of the striking contrast between the two individuals, Dobler (Cusack) doesn’t hesitate to pursue Court (Skye), which works in his favor as she accepts his romantic gestures.

An Iconic Scene

Though drama unfolds and tension builds as the story continues with Court’s overprotective father being unaccepting of Dobler, one moment in the Cameron Crowe-directed film has stood out as an iconic scene that will be remembered for years to come.

And that’s the famous “boombox scene.”

In that sincere and vulnerable moment, Dobler is shown standing outside Court’s bedroom window late at night, holding a boombox over his head. What’s heard at that point is Peter Gabriel’s 1986 soft rock classic “In Your Eyes,” being blasted into the air.

The song became a defining moment of the film that still carries weight today because it captures a feeling of emotional risk that’s both rare and timeless. In pop culture, that boombox moment became a long-lasting symbol of romantic devotion.

A Near-Miss

Surprisingly, however, “In Your Eyes” almost never made it into the film. According to Entertainment Weekly, Crowe had the initial idea of using Billy Idol’s “To Be A Lover,” but that song would’ve changed the vibe of the story.

“No song worked, especially ‘To Be A Lover,’ or anything we were playing in the boom box in the number of times that we tried to shoot it—nothing worked,” he told the outlet. “We had songwriters come in and try to write a song—nothing worked.”

Crowe had an inkling to listen to his old wedding tape that included the Gabriel hit. He says listening to “In Your Eyes” gave him “this chill because all the words linked up to what we'd filmed and what we were struggling to find a score to or a song.”

“I just raced to the editing room, and we put it on, and it was perfect,” he shared.

However, locking down the song was another battle.

“A guy from Geffen Records (Gabriel’s label) came and saw the movie, took me aside and said, ‘I'm going to tell you what nobody else is going to tell you. It's not Fast Times. You've really missed with this movie. If you really want to save your career, you should be doing another Spicoli movie, and I'm just going to tell you the truth right now,” Crowe recalled. “I was like, ‘Oh f—, now we're really not going to get the song. We're doomed.’”

The other rejection Crowe faced was an initial “no” from Gabriel, himself, who told him, "I appreciate you asking for the song. It's a very personal song to me, and I just hope you don't mind that I have to turn you down."

Luckily, Gabriel had mistaken Crowe’s film for someone else’s, and after watching it, he ultimately approved the use of the song.In the end, that near-missed opportunity became the very heartbeat of Say Anything… Decades later, the image of Dobler standing beneath Courti’s window, holding a boombox with his heart on the line and the classic “In Your Eyes” playing on, remains one of cinema’s most memorable expressions of love.

'80s Music Legend Phil Collins Makes Rock and Roll Hall of Fame History at Age 75

Mon, 04/13/2026 - 10:48pm

2026 is about to become a historic year for Phil Collins.

On Monday April 13, the legendary musician was officially announced as a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 2026 class. As one of the 17 artists nominated this year, Collins was poised to make history if he was selected — and now he will be doing just that.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬

Collins' induction as a solo artist will make him the fourth drummer to ever be inducted into the Rock Hall twice. He already became a Rock Hall of Famer back in 2010 when he was inducted as part of the British rock band Genesis.

Now, the 75-year-old musician will be joining the ranks of the only three other drummers in Rock Hall history to have been inducted twice. Among them are Matt Cameron, who was inducted with Pearl Jam in 2017 and Soundgarden in 2025, as well as Ringo Starr, inducted as a member of The Beatles in 1988 and for Musical Excellence as a solo artist in 2015, plus Dave Grohl, who first received the honor as the drummer for Nirvana in 2014 and later with Foo Fighters in 2021.

The official 2026 inductees were announced on Monday night, as announced by Lionel Richie, a member of the Rock Hall's class of 2022, during this week's American Idol episode.

In addition to Collins, this year's inductees in the performers category are: Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, Sade, Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan. Inductees in other categories include Queen Latifah, Gram Parsons, Linda Creed, Ed Sullivan and more.

'Love Island' Stars Join MemeHouse’s Coachella Livestream Activation

Mon, 04/13/2026 - 10:46pm

Love Island USA Season 7 racked up 18.4 billion streaming minutes last summer, became the first Peacock original to hit No. 1 on Nielsen’s overall streaming chart, and turned its cast into some of the most recognizable faces on the internet practically overnight. So when fan favorites like Nic Vansteenberghe and Pepe Garcia pop up at Coachella, word travels fast.

On Saturday, April 11, MemeHouse dropped a carousel of photos from weekend one showing the former Islanders at The Scene — a nine-house livestreaming activation spread across 10 acres of desert during the festival.

In one shot, Vansteenberghe throws up a peace sign in a black Psycho Circus hoodie next to creator Cole Steiner, known online as Cole Train, who's in a black tank top and chain necklace. In another, Garcia rocks a vintage Heat jersey and backwards cap under the California sun, arm around Steiner with palm trees lining the background.

Fellow Season 7 cast member Cierra Ortega was also on site, giving fans an early look at the compound in a TikTok house tour that quickly racked up over 100,000 likes. But Love Island wasn't the only world represented. Boxing champion Ryan Garcia, creator Jake Webber, model Suede Brooks, influencer Kate Cassidy, and content duo Johnny and Evelyn Ortiz all came through The Scene as well.

While it's unclear which of the nine houses the stars spent their time in, the activation they walked into was massive. More than 80 creators, 80-plus cameras, and over 2,500 hours of live programming are spread across themed spaces anchored by names like DDG. "Coachella has always been the place where culture moves first, and The Scene is our answer to what that looks like in 2026," MemeHouse's Director of Marketing Sandra Aderibigbe said.

MemeHouse, the 24/7 live-streaming creator compound and production company, has already built a footprint with projects ranging from Ice Spice in Tokyo to A Boogie Wit da Hoodie at Radio City Music Hall. Through its partnership with THE LEAGUE, a celebrity basketball platform that has drawn LaMelo Ball and Michael Porter Jr., it’s also been tied to events featuring Future, Machine Gun Kelly, and Diplo.

Vansteenberghe also made waves beyond the activation. Earlier that weekend, the 24-year-old went viral on Threads after sharing what he called “the rumor going around town” — an alleged leak of Justin Bieber's Saturday night setlist. Then on Sunday, a video of Kim Kardashian's daughter North West lighting up after spotting Vansteenberghe and girlfriendOlandria Carthen at the festival made the rounds across social media.

The Scene continues with Frequency during Coachella weekend two (April 17-19) and The Dunes during Stagecoach (April 24-26), with live programming streaming on MemeHouse's Twitch and Kick channels.

33 Years Ago Today, ’70s Rock Band Received Major Honor

Mon, 04/13/2026 - 10:32pm

What started as state recognition soon turned into a lasting cultural tribute to the iconic rock band that fans still celebrate decades later.

Thirty-three years ago, Aerosmith cemented its legacy after receiving a rare honor that marked a historic celebration in Massachusetts.

In 1993, then-Governor William Weld proclaimed April 13 as “Aerosmith Day” for their significant cultural contribution as "Bad Boys from Boston.”

The proclamation highlights the band’s humble beginnings as a local Massachusetts band and their rise to early fame within the state, where their success story began.

Moreover, the recognition also served to honor how Aerosmith went on to achieve the global fame that they now have, particularly in the music industry.

Three decades later, the band remains deeply grateful for such a rare honor from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and for the fans who have supported them since their early years.

“HAPPY AEROSMITH DAY 2026. On April 13, 1993, Governor William Weld declared the day “Aerosmith Day” throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We are so proud to be The Bad Boys from Boston and a part of Massachusetts history!” the caption reads along with a compilation video of the band’s performances.

The comment section was filled with excitement and admiration as fans joined the celebration.

“Every day is Aerosmith day,” Kamenar frontman Sean Kamenar said.

“My favorite holiday,” a commenter added.

A follower shared what it's like celebrating the Aerosmith day in his household, noting, “What are you talking about, it's happy Aerosmith day every day in my house. I'm always listening to Aerosmith, it's just not one day of the year. Hell no, I have them pumping every day, sometimes my windows shake LOL.”

“One last show to celebrate it!” a commenter added, requesting a possible upcoming performance.

The same goes for another Instagram user who said, “I think this day should be celebrated in Brazil with a super show.”

The last time Aerosmith performed a concert tour was in 2023 for their Peace Out: The Farewell Tour.

In a joint statement, cited by Rocket Arena, they hinted at delivering an unforgettable performance, noting, “It’s not goodbye, it's PEACE OUT! Get ready and walk this way, you’re going to get the best show of our lives.”

The show kicked off in Philadelphia in September 2024 and was joined by The Black Crowes as their special guests.

However, the band cancelled the remainder of the farewell tour after frontman Steven Tyler’s vocal cord injury, which made a full recovery impossible, leading Aerosmith to announce their retirement from touring in 2024.

Who Will Win ‘The Voice’ Season 29? After Watching Every 2026 Episode, Here Are Our Predictions

Mon, 04/13/2026 - 10:30pm

Now that The Voice Season 29 has revealed the four finalists, the question remains who is going to walk away with the title?  Will it be Kelly Clarkson’s Liv Ciara or Mikenley Brown, Adam Levine’s Alexia Jayy or John Legend’s Lucas West? Here are our predictions for who will win The Voice in 2026.

But first, this season is different than any other that preceded it in that The Voice finale is not live, but already pre-taped with an audience of Superfans and former The Voice contestants voting for the winner. Not America.

This same audience voted for the four finalists, and I have to say that I think the result is very different than what it would have been if America had voted. In fact, two of my favorites in the Top 9 didn’t make the final four! So I am going to depend more on what the coaches had to say during the semifinal performances than who I think might win, as the usual leanings from past seasons don’t apply. There isn’t one country artist in the finale, and only one really young artist: Liv, who is 16.

That said, here are our predictions for who will win The Voice Season 29.

🎤 SIGN UP for our The Voice newsletter to get access to exclusive news, interviews, insider info, sneak peeks & more 🎤

Who will win The Voice Season 29 in 2026?

My prediction is a tie right now between Liv Ciara and Lucas West. Liv’s performance in the semifinals couldn’t have gotten her more raves from the coaches, but with former Voice contestants voting, the fact that Lucas is more than a vocalist but also a pianist could tip the vote in his favor.

LIV CIARA

In the semifinals, Liv performed “Flashdance…What a Feeling” by Irene Cara, and she did it her way. In fact, coach Kelly made sure that everyone knew that the version that Liv sang was completely her own creation.

“I want to tell everyone right now that I had zero to do with any of that,” Kelly said. “She did everything. She completely came up with all of that. It is such a beautiful thing to realize how amazing you are as a singer but also as a producer.”

But it wasn’t just Kelly raving about her. John and Adam did as well.

John said, “Liv, that was a superstar performance. You looked, you sounded and you carried yourself like you were supposed to be here, and you’re supposed to be making records and playing arenas.”

But it was Adam who may have cemented her win. He said, “I am very sad right now. My sadness is you’re not on my team because I think right at this moment, you would win The Voice. We all decided this right now. Actually, I don’t wish that you do that because, again I have to remind myself, you are not on my team. I thought maybe I had a good chance of winning this year, a chance that is still there but not as much as before I saw what you just did. I am a huge fan of yours.”

LUCAS WEST

For his semifinal performance, Lucas tackled “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney, playing the piano – think Elton John or Billy Joel -- as well as singing. And it’s that special ability that could win him the whole thing.

Adam complimented him, saying, “That song requires everything of the person singing it. There’s no stone left unturned as far as what that song demands of you when you sing it. I don’t think there’s one part of your voice that can’t be firing on all cylinders. I loved how you  brought up those big moments that you did and kind of tossed them a little bit. I thought that was cool. You did a run that made us go [makes a funny noise]. There is something about your voice that is just captivating. I think the fact that you play and are such a real musician, it adds this other dynamic to you that is super compelling. I am a huge fan of yours."

Then Kelly said, “There are very few artists I would go to a stadium for because I don’t find them very intimate and I don’t think people pull them off very well, but it’s funny because I think you’re the one performance tonight that would just crush in that environment. I think you have so much power to your voice, so much conviction, so much soulfulness, not just through your voice but through your fingers. The whole experience is awesome to behold. You’re not just a great voice. You’re a great artist.”

Then Lucas’ coach John said, “You are the whole package. You are an artist’s artist. You are a real pianist who can play play with real chops. You are tackling these songs by really big artists but it also tells me you have great taste in songwriting, which makes me want to hear what your songwriting is like. You come out here and you really deliver an electric, energetic, soulful performance. I just love how artistic you are, how creative you are, and how competitive you are.”

ALEXIA JAYY

Alexia went powerful for her semifinal performance singing Aretha Franklin’s “I Never Loved a Man (the Way I Love You),” and she brought down the house.

Kelly said, “I have been looking forward to this moment for so long. I love this song so much. It has been ingrained in me since I was very young and I don’t like anyone singing it, but you can sing it every damn day. You are so gifted.”

John added, “I love you so much. You are so talented. You have so much creative energy and positive energy. You are elegant and cool at the same time. Classy and fashionable and rock’n’roll and soulful. You’re an artist’s artist and I love you.”

Her coach Adam said, “I don’t know what I’m supposed to tell you because you’re like the best singer ever and I love you so much. I feel like a superfan right now, not a coach. I feel like a dude that loves you. You have this larger-than-life persona that you put out when you are doing your thing. The second you are done, you go back to being the sweetest, most thoughtful, humble person, so I just love that juxtaposition. There aren’t many people that have these incredible qualities as a vocalist and a person. We are all lucky to get to watch you do what you do and I am lucky to get to be your coach.”

Despite the raves for her performance, it didn’t feel that there were as much excitement from the coaches as for the previous two.

MIKENLEY BROWN

Mikenley chose “I’m Not the Only One” by Sam Smith for her semifinal performance. She was one of the earlier performances in the show, unlike Liv, Alexia and Lucas, who were in the second half, and was memorable enough that voters remembered her.

“Mikenley, I am beaming over here,” John said. “This was your best performance. I loved the crackle in your voice, the rasp was really beautiful. I think you may have snuck up on people and shown them something they may not have expected. That was so well done. I absolutely loved it.”

Then Adam chimed in, “I agree. I think it was your best performance. I think it was more of what we all loved when we turned around for you in the Blinds, and definitely beautiful. Your head voice and your falsetto, the way you dance in there is your superpower as a singer. It’s so beautiful.”

Kelly said: “Believability is a huge thing for me because a lot of people come out here and sing great songs, but I don’t buy it. I buy it from you. I was impressed by you in rehearsals. She walked in and she sang like that and I was, ‘I know I’m supposed to say something here.’ You were doing those incredible runs, but I love that you held back on some of the runs and you made them more special.”

As good as Mikenley was, I am still betting on either Liv or Lucas as the winners.

The Voice finale will take place on Tuesday, April  14 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Streaming next day on Peacock.

KJ WILLIS from Team Legend

KJ song: “Higher Ground” from Stevie Wonder

John said: “You have been doing all secular music on the show, but you can just feel the spirit in you. I feel like you are growing in your own confidence and taking up space on stage. America is seeing you blossom into the artist you are supposed to be.”

MIKENLEY BROWN from Team Kelly

Song: “I’m Not the Only One” by Sam Smith

Kelly said: “Believability is a huge thing for me because a lot of people come out here and sing great songs, but I don’t buy it. I buy it from you. I was impressed by you in rehearsals. JEREMY KEITH from Team Adam

Song: “Whip Appeal” by Babyface

Adam said: “I feel like you accomplished in this performance, in my mind, exactly what you set out to do. You had to get out of your head and be that visceral singer who does growl and does that big moment and lets it go and unleashes it all. I love that we finally got to this place because I think this is the most important part for you. I am so proud of you man.”

SYD MILLEVOI from Team Legend

Song: “Into You” by Ariana Grande

John said: “This is my favorite performance of yours because I really did love how soulful you were. We talked about how the song was stripped down, but it wasn’t a sad song. It’s a song about seduction and asserting her power as a woman to make the move and I really loved how you embraced the energy of the song. This show is a show that celebrates the voice and you have a magnificent instrument as a vocalist. I thought you deployed it beautifully today. Wonderful performance.”

JARED SHOEMAKER from Team Adam

Song: “Soulshine” by Allman Brothers Band

Adam said: “I don’t know what it is but you’re a star. When you walk out, I’m like, ‘This guy’s important. I got to listen to this guy.' There’s something iconic about you. And then you have this beautiful voice and it’s not necessarily the voice you’re expecting because you do  bridge between rock ‘n’ roll and country. There’s a hybrid going on. It’s classic. I also love that you are who you are very unabashedly and very consistently. I think there’s so much promise in you for a very wonderful career.”

LIV CIARA from Team Kelly

Song: “Flashdance…What a Feeling” by Irene Cara

Kelly said: “I want to tell everyone right now that I had zero to do with any of that. She did everything. She completely came up with all of that. If you win the show or don’t win the show, I am so excited to have been a tiny, miniscule participant. It is such a beautiful thing to realize how amazing you are as a singer but also as a producer. I just cannot wait to see your future. It’s incredible.”

ALEXIA JAYY from Team Adam

Song: “I Never Loved a Man (the Way I Love You)” by Aretha Franklin

Adam said: “I don’t know what I’m supposed to tell you because you’re like the best singer ever and I love you so much. I feel like a superfan right now, not a coach. JW GRIFFIN from Team Kelly

Song: “Angel Falling Too Close to the Ground” by Willie Nelson

Kelly said: “I always come back to your voice to listen to over and over again. There is something so true and raw. You are the only one who had a super intimate performance that was about being a voice that is a vessel for a beautiful message. What a blessing to have a gift that makes people feel amazing on the inside. I think you did an incredible job. I cannot wait to work with you afterwards as well.”

LUCAS WEST from Team Legend

Song: “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney

John said: “You are the whole package. You are an artist’s artist. You are a real pianist who can play play. You are tackling these songs by really big artists but it also tells me you have great taste in songwriting, which makes me want to hear what your songwriting is like. You come out here and you really deliver an electric, energetic, soulful performance. I just love how artistic you are, how creative you are, and how competitive you are.”

30 Years Ago Today This Controversial Rock Band Was Kicked Off ‘SNL’ and Banned Forever

Mon, 04/13/2026 - 9:46pm

Thirty years ago today, Rage Against the Machine pulled off one of the most chaotic appearances in Saturday Night Live history… and they've never been invited back.

The April 13, 1996 booking was already eyebrow-raising from the start. Steve Forbes, the billionaire Republican presidential candidate, was hosting, with RATM as the musical guest.

Things started going sideways before the band even played a note. RATM hung American flags upside down on their amps, but SNL crew members yanked them down just seven seconds before they went live. The band got through their first song, "Bulls On Parade," without a hitch, but sadly, they weren’t able to perform their second song.

When an SNL rep knocked on their dressing room door to tell them the show was running long and their second number was being cut, that's when things took a turn. Morello laid out the full sequence of events in an anniversary post on X today, explaining that bassist Tim Commerford grabbed one of the confiscated flags, balled it up, and launched it into Forbes' dressing room across the hall.

Forbes wasn't there, but his family was. "Timmy C then attacked host/billionaire/presidential candidate Steve Forbes' family in the dressing room with a wadded up flag," Morello wrote in his post. The projectile ultimately fell apart mid-air, hurting no one—but the Secret Service wasn't amused. "Secret Service flooded the hallways," Morello continued. The band was locked in their room before being escorted out and put on the sidewalk at 30 Rock. Morello finished his post by noting, "Evil Empire entered the Billboard Album Chart at #1."

Today’s the 30th anniversary of RATM’S um, ‘memorable’ performance on SNL. There was a fight onstage between our crew and SNL stage hands moments before our performance, wrestling over some upside down American flags which adorned our amps. Timmy C then attacked… pic.twitter.com/rmZviVGyAC

— Tom Morello (@tmorello) April 13, 2026

Drummer Brad Wilk also shared a post remembering the eventful evening, sharing a promotional photo along with a video of the performance on his Instagram. "30 yrs ago today RATM took it to the SNL stage... We were escorted out of the building after playing one song," he wrote.

Thirty years later, the ban still stands, but it seems Rage Against the Machine isn't phased.

Mon, 04/13/2026 - 9:41pm

This week, the remaining 10 cheftestants on Top Chef: Carolinas got to skip the Quickfire Challenge entirely in favor of moving straight to a basically 24-hour BBQ challenge of smoking a whole hog.

Spoiler alert: The post below discusses the elimination and challenges from the Monday, April 13 episode of Top Chefseason 23. Don't keep reading if you don't want to be spoiled.

What Were the Challenges on 'Top Chef' Season 23 Episode 5?

There was no Quickfire this week because instead they were tasked with doing Carolina BBQ for their Elimination.

On this episode, Sam Jones was on hand as the guest judge. He's the fourth-generation head of Skyline Inn, which is known for its BBQ. Carolina BBQ is known for smoked hog and then East vs West BBQ styles. East is thinner and more vinegar heavy, while West is thicker and sweeter.

For the challenge, they were split into two teams of five, with each team given a whole hog. Anthony, as the winner of the last challenge, was assigned team leader for one team and he got to choose who the other team leader was, then they did schoolyard pick for the teams.

The teams ended up:

Team Anthony (picks in order):
  • Anthony (ham)
  • Laurence (loin)
  • Brandon (belly)
  • Sherry (shoulder)
  • Duyen (chopped)
Team Justin (picks in order):
  • Justin (shoulder)
  • Jennifer (ham)
  • Sieger (loin)
  • Jonathan (belly)
  • Oscar (chopped)

Related: Bobby Flay & Brooke Williamson to Face Off on ‘BBQ Brawl’ Season 7

The twin brothers face off! Also, even though Anthony and Justin were technically the team captains. Brandon and Sieger took point for their respective teams in terms of the whole hog because they had experience roasting whole hogs.

The set-up was five head-to-head rounds, one dish per chef featuring one part of either shoulder, loin, belly, ham and chopped. The winner of each head-to-head matchup earned $5000 and the team that won the most matchups got immunity. The winning team also got an additional $500 each.

Because they need 10-12 hours to smoke the whole hog, they were staying out in the Piedmont region at a gorgeous acreage where they can cook their hog. They were serving the top pitmasters in the region in addition to the regular judges.

Related: ‘Tournament of Champions’ VII Week 7 Live Updates: History is Made

Here is how the head-to-head showdowns shook out:

Round 1: Shoulder, Sherry vs Justin. Sherry made "south of the border" bossam with pig's head rice and a chimuchurri, while Justin did pork shoulder sandwich with a milk bread bun and Chicago beef dip.

Winner: Sherry

Round 2: Loin, Laurence vs Sieger. Laurence made roasted pork loin with crispy skin XO sauce and pickled napa cabbage slaw, while Sieger went with roasted pork loin with crispy pig ear terrine and mustard-based carrot sauce.

Interesting note: Anthony's team took the hog off the smoker to cut the loin out for Laurence because it's the leanest cut and they don't want to overcook it, while Sieger chose to leave his whole hog in the smoker without lifting the lid once for the first seven hours.

Winner: Laurence

Related: Meet the Full Cast of ‘Top Chef’ Season 23

So, at this point, if Team Justin wanted to win, they would have to sweep the remaining matchups.

Round 3: Belly, Twin Faceoff! Brandon did pork belly with collard greens and fried mac & cheese, while Jonathon made pork belly with chicharrons and pimento espuma.

Winner: Brandon. And that's the win for Team Anthony.

Round 4: Ham, Anthony vs Jennifer. Anthony made smoked ham mojo with smoked black bean puree and hushpuppies, while Jennifer went with crispy ham with black-eyed peas and hushpuppy croutons.

Winner: Jennifer! Good for her. I've been very concerned if she can continue competing with that hurt shoulder of hers.

Round 5: Chopped, Duyen vs Oscar. Duyen prepared chopped pork fried spring roll with a fresh mango summer roll. Oscar went with chopped pork with blue corn flour tortillas.

Winner: Oscar

In the middle of the cook, Tom Colicchio showed up and offered them an extra $500 if they could win a smores-off at the open fire pit. Oscar won with his spicy smore.

So, at Judges' Table, Team Justin was at risk but obviously Oscar and Jennifer were not because they did win their head-to-head matchups, which left Justin, Sieger and Jonathan up for elimination. It really felt like it was between Sieger and Jonathan for the elimination.

The winning dish went to Laurence, so he has immunity next week. The person eliminated ended up being Sieger.

'Beyond the Gates' Boss Michele Val Jean Reveals Her Favorite Season 1 Moments

Mon, 04/13/2026 - 9:40pm

Michele Val Jean, creator and head writer of Beyond the Gates, is reflecting on the show’s first season and sharing some of her favorite storylines.

In a recent interview with Marcus James Dixon for Golden Derby, Val Jean discussed the show’s first season, the upcoming Daytime Emmys, and potential future guest stars.

During the interview, she highlighted several standout storylines from the show’s debut season.

“I loved Martin's story, what happened by the side of the road with the racists,” Val Jean said.

One of the show’s central early mysteries involved Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon), who was introduced having nightmares about a past event. As the story unfolded, viewers learned that Martin and his grandfather, Vernon (Clifton Davis), experienced a terrifying encounter after getting a flat tire near a sundown town. During the incident, two men approached them and made racist threats. When the situation escalated, Martin killed one of the men in self defense and severely injured the other. Years later, the surviving man resurfaced, reigniting the danger before ultimately being killed himself, just as Martin prepared to reveal the truth to the public.

She also pointed to another major arc, adding, “I loved the breakup of Ted and Nicole's marriage, with the bomb Leslie dropped in the middle of their anniversary party.”

That storyline centered on Leslie Thomas (Trisha Mann Grant), who arrived in Fairmont Crest with her daughter, Eva (Ambyr Michelle). It was later revealed that Leslie had a past affair with Ted Richardson (originally Maurice Johnson, now Keith D. Robinson), resulting in Eva’s conception. Believing Leslie had ended the pregnancy and left town years earlier, Ted was blindsided when she returned. Leslie ultimately exposed the truth during Ted and Nicole’s wedding anniversary party, shattering their marriage in front of family and friends.

Val Jean also highlighted a lighter but emotional arc, saying, “I loved all things Articulettes.”

Maria Shriver Addresses 'Disturbing' Photo of Donald Trump Amid Pope Leo XIV Feud: 'Come On'

Mon, 04/13/2026 - 9:22pm

Maria Shriver is speaking out against the recent actions of President Donald Trump, specifically in regard to the controversial photo he posted following growing tensions with Pope Leo XIV.

After criticizing the pope as "weak" and "terrible" in a lengthy social media post on Sunday night, Trump shared a bizarre AI-generated photo depicting him as a Jesus-like figure, which didn't go over well with people on both sides of the aisle — and Shriver is one of them.

Shriver took to Instagram on Monday, April 13 to share that she was "disturbed" by the polarizing AI image of Trump, which has since been taken down from his TruthSocial page.

"I was enraged," she said of her initial reaction to the photo, while noting that she waited a few hours before addressing the situation publicly in order to "reflect" and collect her thoughts.

Shriver, 70, then explained, "I wanted to make this video because I know many people who voted for this president and I know they didn't vote for this...This is clearly a person who’s dangerous, unreliable."

"Unhinged doesn’t even begin to cover it," she added.

View this post on Instagram

"This is a plea to the people who are also in those rooms with him," Shriver added later in the video, while imploring, "Come on. Are you not concerned about what is going on? The whole world is concerned. You’re there. You can do something to stop this."

"Come on. We deserve so much better — and we've had so much better," added Shriver, who is the niece of former president John F. Kennedy. "We've had democrats and republicans in this office who were mannered, who were reliable...They didn’t act like this. They didn’t behave like this."

"We deserve so much better. Those who voted for this man and those who didn't," she added, before ending the video by pleading with those in power to "help us out" and "wake up."

Royal Traditions and Protocols That Range From Strange to Downright Weird

Mon, 04/13/2026 - 9:09pm

The British monarchy is over 1,000 years old. Although the current members, including King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton, have been working to modernize the crown, there are plenty of strange royal traditions and protocols that still exist.

Queen Elizabeth II is the longest reigning monarch in British history, serving as the head of state for 70 years and 214 days until her death in September 2022 at the age of 96. Elizabeth did a lot to advance the monarchy, like embracing technology and pioneering the "royal walkabout" for direct public interaction. However, she was staunch in tradition and deeply invested in preserving the historic roots of the monarchy. In doing so, some interesting and strange royal traditions and protocols still remain. Keep reading to learn more.

The Monarch Has Two Birthdays

The reigning sovereign gets to celebrate their birthday twice, thanks to King Edward VII, Elizabeth’s great-grandfather. Trooping the Colour has been an event to celebrate the monarch’s birthday since 1748, but Edward didn’t like doing the famed even during his November birthday because of the unpredictable weather. He set the date for the event in the summer, and now Trooping the Colour is always the second Saturday in June.

Members of the Royal Family Cannot Sign Autographs

The monarch and immediate family members are prohibited from signing autographs in an effort to prevent forgery. However, Prince William and Prince Harry have been known to break this rule on occasion.

Annual Christmas Weigh-In

King Edward VII wanted proof his guests had eaten to their hearts' content on Christmas, so he would weigh them. Reportedly, it was ideal to gain at least three pounds after the multi-course feast.

Elizabeth maintained the tradition throughout her reign and every guest at Sandringham was required to step on an antique scale at the beginning and end of the Christmas celebration.

Ravens in the Tower of London

Legend dictates that at least six ravens must be kept at the Tower of London at all times, and while it’s rooted in superstition, it is maintained as a royal decree.

During King Charles II’s reign, a prophecy was foretold: “If the Tower of London ravens are lost or fly away, the Crown will fall and Britain with it.”

The Tower currently hosts seven ravens to ensure the requirement is always met, and they are cared for by the Ravenmaster.

Sovereigns Don’t Need a License or a Seatbelt

While the members of the royal family can drive, they are often chauffeured. The reigning monarch is not required to have a driver’s license or a passport, as these documents are issued in the sovereign’s name. The monarch is also not required to have a license plate on their car, nor do they have to obey the speed limit.

Swan Upping

Every July, a team of royal swan uppers spends five days looking for baby swans in the River Thames to mark them for the palace.

“The Crown has held the right to claim ownership of all unmarked mute swans swimming in open waters throughout the country from as far back as the twelfth century,” according to the U.K.’s government website. “Historically, valuable rights of ownership were subsequently granted by the monarch to many people and organisations as swans were a prized food, served at banquets and feasts.  Today, of course, swans are no longer eaten and are a protected species.”

Separate Planes for Direct Heirs

According to royal protocol, direct heirs are required to fly separately to ensure two heirs are not killed in a single accident. Prince William began flying on a different plane from his father, now-King Charles, when he turned 12, and royal watchers have wondered if Prince George will follow suit after turning 12 in July 2025.

RELATED: Royal Baby Photos We're Still Obsessed With

A Kensington Palace spokesman previously told Cosmopolitan, "We don't comment on travel," when asked about George’s arrangements, but a former royal helicopter pilot recalled when William began flying on his own.

"Interestingly, we flew all four, the Prince [Charles], the Princess [Diana], Prince William and Prince Harry, up until Prince William was 12 years old. After that, he had to have a separate aircraft and we could only fly all four together when they were young with the written permission of Her Majesty,” the pilot recalled to Daily Mail. “When William became 12, he would fly normally in a 125 from Northolt and we would fly the 146 out with the other three on."

Always Pack the Color Black

British royals are technically allowed to wear black, although it is typically reserved for funerals and mourning. (Which made Princess Diana's iconic "revenge dress" all the more jaw-dropping.) However, it is a mandatory travel rule to bring a black outfit.

“They have to bring a black suit and tie, a dress or similar to be prepared if someone in the family dies while they’re away,” royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Reader’s Digest. “This is a rule that has been in place for over seven decades and is closely followed.”

Christmas Decoations Come Down in February

The royal family keeps their Christmas decorations up well into the new year. Queen Elizabeth kept Sandringham decorated until February 6th. The date marks the anniversary of her father King George VI's death at Sandringham in 1952. She was just 25 years old when he died and she ascended to the throne.

Maintaining a radiant smile and healthy gums is a cornerstone of overall wellness, yet many of us still rely on outdated manual brushing techniques. While the traditional toothbrush has served humanity for decades, it often fails to reach the hidden nooks and crannies where plaque and bacteria thrive. Dental professionals increasingly emphasize that oral health is a gateway to systemic health, meaning that the tools we use twice a day carry significant weight.

Most people struggle to brush for the dentist-recommended two minutes, and even fewer apply the correct amount of pressure or coverage. Modern dental technology addresses these shortcomings by incorporating smart sensors and high-frequency movements that do the heavy lifting for you. By using rapid micro-vibrations, these devices can break up biofilm and stimulate gum tissue in ways manual brushing cannot. The result is a professional-clean feeling that empowers you to take charge of your long-term hygiene goals with confidence and ease.

Box Office Smash Ranked No. 2 ‘Greatest Film of the Century’ Took 36 Years to Launch

Mon, 04/13/2026 - 8:46pm

In May 1986, Top Gun blasted into theaters, becoming an instant classic and the answer to a decade hungry for high-octane escapism. It would take another 36 years, however, before audiences would get another taste of soaring adrenaline.

Though the idea for a Top Gun sequel was approached in earnest in 2010, the project was delayed due to director Tony Scott’s death in 2012 and leading man Tom Cruise insisting on the proper time, story, and technology to do the original justice.

“Just through time, the story was never right,” Cruise told Total Film in 2022. The action hero went on to say that he and producer Jerry Bruckheimer were both perfectly happy keeping the sequel grounded until everything was perfect. That time came after Cruise worked with director Joseph Kosinski on the 2013 sci-fi romance film Oblivion.

“Joe had an idea for the movie,” Bruckheimer said. "And Tom loved the idea. And we loved it. So that’s where it all started.”

The announcement for Top Gun: Maverick came in 2017, with the film premiering at ComicCon on April 28 five years later. Following its theater release in May 2022, it became one of those rare cinematic feats where the sequel might just be better than the original.

Rotten Tomatoes seems to think so, as the second installment in the fighter pilot saga is ranked No. 2 on its list of “100 Greatest Movies of the 21st Century,” second only to Bong Joon Ho’s inimitable Parasite, and No. 20 on its list of the "300 Best Movies of All Time" (the original didn't even make the list).

Sitting at a near-perfect 96% critics' score and 99% audience rating, Maverick, which co-stars Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, and so many more familiar faces, was not just a box office smash; it's been credited with saving the movie theater industry altogether.

“You saved Hollywood’s a– and you might have saved theatrical distribution,” legendary director Steven Spielberg said to Cruise in a video originally shared on Instagram by director Kartiki Gonsalves. Per Variety, “Cruise was left blushing.”

Maverick pulled in more than $1 billion worldwide … during a pandemic. Running two hours and 10 minutes, the film is everything you want in a sequel: bigger, louder, more nostaligic. And yet it gives fans even more, including a full-circle return to Goose that was as much of a gut punch as Maverick’s best buddy's demise in 1986.

Thinking of giving the sequel another whirl? In the words of its brightest pilots: Don’t think. Just do.

Top Gun: Maverick is streaming on Paramount+.
