As Hollywood continues mourning the loss of Sam Neill, new details are emerging about the his in the days leading up to his sudden death at age 78.

According to Neill's longtime friend and Hunt for the Wilderpeople co-star Rima Te Wiata, the beloved actor had been ill with pneumonia before his passing.

Speaking on Ryan Bridge TODAY, per The New Zealand Herald, Te Wiata revealed, "It really sucks actually. As he said in the press once, he's not scared of death but he would be annoyed. He would be like, 'Oh for goodness sake I just got over my cancer and now look, now I get pneumonia. What next? But he's on his big journey now'."

Neill revealed in 2023 that he had been diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare form of blood cancer, in 2022. Earlier this year, however, scans found he was cancer-free. Because of that timeline, Te Wiata's recollection of Neill's pneumonia comment appears to reference a conversation that took place after he received that health update.

Neill's family previously confirmed his death in a statement, describing it as "sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer-free." They also thanked the staff at St. Vincent's Private Hospital in Sydney for their care while asking for privacy as they grieve.

While it’s not clear if the pneumonia was related to his death, Te Wiata remembered Neill as someone who brought a calming presence wherever he went. "He was a very steady, peaceful, grounded man," she said per the outlet, who shared the news on Monday, July 13. "He was more like a lovely gardener, someone who was doing the vege garden or something. There was sort of a gentlemanly demeanour that went along with it."

As news of Neill's passing spread, tributes poured in from many of the people who knew him best. His Jurassic Park co-star Laura Dern told People, "Sam was my beloved lifetime friend… He showed me the depths of loyalty, protectiveness and love always with the driest of wit." She added, "He was a true and noble gentleman, wrapped up in my dream leading man. I will love you forever, Dr. Alan Grant."

Director Steven Spielbergalso reflected on working with Neill, saying, "Sam was exceptionally collaborative," before adding, "I adored making all the Jurassic movies with him."

Best known worldwide for bringing Dr. Alan Grant to life in the Jurassic Park franchise, Neill leaves behind four children and eight grandchildren.

The 80s were a strange time for Bob Dylan, as it was for many other artists of his generation. Many aging stars found themselves adopting the '80s sound in a way that wasn't received super well or reflected what made them so special in the first place. Dylan wasn't an exception this, with his '80s output being his most critically reviled period.

Maybe the apex of this period of poor reception is "Knocked Out Loaded," which released 40 years ago today. The album opened to pretty poor reviews, being overwhelming described as a boring and uninspired record. This period of Dylan's career would later be largely written off by the man himself, admitting he was making "bad" albums on purpose.

I'm of the opinion however that no Dylan album has nothing good on it, and this is absolutely true with "Knocked Out Loaded," which features one of Dylan's greatest epics, "Brownsville Girl."

The song is a hilarious, absurd saga following Dylan reminiscing about a former lover and the escapades they got into together, including Dylan almost being gunned down in the street. This is occasionally interrupted by Dylan trying to remember a Gregory Peck movie he saw about him as a gunslinger.

The song features some of Dylan's funniest lines, a great vocal performance, and the least dated instrumentation and production on the record. It's very much in line with the classic Dylan epics that we find ourselves used to throughout his discography. Just to highlight the song's tone, here are some of my favorite lines:

She said, “Welcome to the land of the living dead”
You could tell she was so broken hearted
She said, “Even the swap meets around here are getting pretty corrupt”

Well, you saw my picture in the Corpus Christi Tribune. Underneath it,
it said, “A man with no alibi”

While "Knocked Out Loaded" was far from a success for Dylan, he did create one of his greatest songwriting efforts with "Brownsville Girl," so happy 40th birthday to one of Dylan's most absurd songs.

"Oh Mickey, you're so fine. You're so fine. You blow my mind. Hey Mickey!" Nearly everyone who lived through the early '80s can still sing along to the infectious hit "Mickey" by Toni Basil. What began as a simple chant became a full-blown pop culture craze, thanks to MTV, school pep rallies, and sporting events — but the song's origins were far more surprising than most fans realize.

The Song's Surprising Backstory

In 1979, "Mickey" was co-written by the songwriting duo Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman and originally recorded by the English rock group Racey under the song title "Kitty." The original song wasn't about Mickey at all.

Basil wasn't just a singer. She was already an accomplished Hollywood choreographer and dancer when she stumbled across "Kitty." She changed the title to "Mickey," reimagined it from a female perspective, concocted the chant, and transformed it into something entirely her own.

“I had to beg my record company to let me record it,” she told The Guardian, recalling the feedback she got. “They thought it was a terrible idea; they didn’t know what cheerleaders were.”

Still a year ahead of MTV's debut, Basil directed short films to go with a few of her songs. That's when she conceived and choreographed the now-iconic cheerleader video. Basil wore her own high school cheerleading uniform and enlisted cheerleaders from a high school championship squad to perform as her backup dancers.

The timing couldn't have been better. Just months later, MTV launched and suddenly music videos became just as important as the songs themselves.

Why 'Mickey' Became a Craze

Everything about "Mickey" worked — the chant was instantly memorable, the new wave synth sound gave it fresh '80s appeal, and the energetic choreography begged to be copied. The video played right into for MTV's earliest days.

As the video received heavy rotation, "Mickey" spread far beyond radio. Fans repeated the chant while driving around in cars, at school pep rallies, and dances, turning it into one of the decade's most recognizable pop culture moments.

The Song's Breakout Success

Released as the lead single forWord of Mouth in January 1982, the song eventually climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Basil's one and only pop hit ... but also one of MTV's defining early videos.

Being 38 years old at the time, Basil also challenged the status quo about who could become a pop star amid MTV's youth-driven era. She conceived, directed, choreographed, and starred in one of the network's earliest iconic videos.

Why 'Mickey' Still Resonates

Few songs from the MTV era have remained as instantly recognizable as "Mickey." The song remains a permanent fixture of '80s retro culture, and the chant still echoes through sporting events, dance routines, and social media, where new generations continue discovering — and recreating — the song's infectious energy.

Collider recently ranked "Mickey" No. 4 in their list of the "The 10 Greatest '80s One-Hit Wonders," and the track currently has more than 24 million Spotify streams.

The spirited song built around a simple chant became one of the defining sounds of the early '80s and the MTV generation. More than 40 years later, "Mickey" still proves that sometimes the simplest hook can create the biggest cultural impact.

Forty years ago this week, one of the most emotional ballads of the 1980s sat at No. 1 in America. Most people have always heard it as a love song. It was never one.

On the Billboard Hot 100 dated July 12, 1986, Simply Red's "Holding Back the Years" reached the top and held it for a week. The band's breakthrough hit, a smoky slow-burn carried by frontman Mick Hucknall's aching falsetto, it remains one of only two Simply Red songs ever to top the U.S. chart.

A Song Written in a Teenager's Bedroom

Hucknall wrote "Holding Back the Years" when he was just 17, in his bedroom at his father's house in Manchester. In a 2018 interview, he recalled an art-school teacher's advice to work in a "stream of consciousness," and what poured out reached back to the deepest wound of his childhood. His mother, Maureen, had walked out on the family when he was just three, leaving him to be raised by his barber father, Reg. The ballad's ache of distance and regret came straight from a boy who grew up longing for a mother who was gone.

The track first surfaced in 1982 as a single by Hucknall's earlier band, the Frantic Elevators, and went nowhere. Simply Red re-recorded it for their 1985 debut album, Picture Book. Even then it stalled at first, scraping the lower reaches of the UK chart before a 1986 reissue finally sent it to No. 1 in America.

Four Decades On

Simply Red recently marked its own 40 years with a world tour and a concert film named for the song, Holding Back the Years: 40 Years of Simply Red. Four decades after it topped the American chart, the ballad still aches, and now more listeners know exactly why.

Country rock star Brantley Gilbert is taking his Real American Tour across more of the United States this fall, adding a new round of dates that will keep him on the road through November 2026.

The newly announced shows include stops in Boston, Savannah, Cincinnati, Biloxi and several other cities as Gilbert continues supporting his upcoming eighth studio album, Sins Of The Father. 

Country singer-songwriter John Morgan will serve as direct support throughout the tour, while Jay Webb and Atlus will join on select dates.

The added concerts begin on Sept. 24 in Boston and run through Nov. 7 in Corinth, Mississippi, expanding a tour schedule that already includes performances across California, Colorado, Washington, Wisconsin, and other states.

The tour expansion arrives just days before the release of Sins Of The Father, which is set to arrive on July 24 through BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville.

Gilbert recently shared two songs from the project, the title track "Sins Of The Father" and "Good Ol' Boys." 

The 15-song album was co-produced by Brock Berryhill, known for his work with Twenty One Pilots and Kane Brown. The record combines country storytelling with rock-driven production and features songs co-written with Taylor Phillips, Jelly Roll, HARDY and others.

The tour itself launched earlier this year and has already brought Gilbert to fairs, casinos, amphitheaters and festival stages throughout the country.

Gilbert remains one of country music's most successful crossover performers. Since releasing his debut album A Modern Day Prodigal Son in 2009, he has earned seven No. 1 hits and generated more than eight billion streams.

His catalog includes chart-topping songs such as "Country Must Be Country Wide," "You Don't Know Her Like I Do," "Bottoms Up" and "One Hell of an Amen." Beyond his own recordings, Gilbert also co-wrote Jason Aldean favorites "My Kinda Party" and "Dirt Road Anthem."

The tour announcement follows another notable moment for Gilbert on stage. During a recent appearance at Country Fest in Ohio, he performed 3 Doors Down's "When I'm Gone" in tribute to late frontman Brad Arnold.

A sequel of a beloved film could either tarnish or elevate the original movie's legacy. The publication Colliderrecently spotlighted some of the latter by releasing a ranking of "the 10 most important movie sequels of all time."

The films featured on the July 13 list included 1986'sAliens, Mad Max: Fury Roadfrom 2015, 1991's Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and The Dark Knight, released in 2008. According to the publication, the "most important" sequel ever released is 1980's Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, which was released three years after the first Star Wars film, 1977's Episode IV – A New Hope.

Irvin Kershner, Who Directed 'The Empire Strikes Back,' Discussed the Appeal of 'Star Wars' in 2007

While the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas, directed A New Hope, filmmaker Irvin Kershner was chosen to be the Empire Strikes Back director. During an interview at the 2007 Star Wars Celebration, Kershner, who died in 2010 at the age of 87, said that he immediately understood the allure of Star Wars upon seeing A New Hope.

"When I saw the film together, I realized it had an appeal that is quite subterranean, it went beyond the superficial. It was like a western. It was certainly not a sci-fi picture, it was a fairy tale. And this was the vision that he had," said Kershner.

Kershner went on to say that "George really created something marvelous" with A New Hope and he "had to build on top of that" while making The Empire Strikes Back.

Kershner also shared that he wasn't interested in directing The Empire Strikes Back.

"I had turned it down originally. I turned it down for a month," said Kershner.

He then confided that he felt a decent amount of pressure to ensure the sequel's success as Lucas was "financing the film."

"To take on that responsibility, where we didn't know whether the second one would work, and he's putting every cent he had into the film, that was a little too much. But I got over it and I said, 'What the hell, it's only money. His money,'" said Kershner during the 2007 interview.

“That is when the motor started,” Stockett said. “I was emotionally free, I was intellectually horrified by what I was reading, and that’s when the book really took off.”

She added, “I want people to understand that it’s no joke when we say that history repeats itself. We have seen it time and time again. And so, for women’s rights, for women’s health rights, we’ve got to fight.”

The novel has spent six weeks on Amazon's most-read list and currently holds a 4.7-star rating from readers. According to critics at Oprah Daily, the story is “so immersive, exciting, and downright fabulous, you never want it to end.” Meanwhile, the New York Times Book Review calls it “pure, hell-raising entertainment.”

The 2016 Disney animated filmMoana made quite a splash, cementing itself as a modern hit. The studio tried to recapture that magic with a live-action version of the film, but audiences haven’t shown the same interest.

The new Moana starring DwayneJohnson, FrankieAdams, and CatherineLaga'aia came out on July 9. Ten years after the original and two years after the animated sequel, the movie opened with disappointing numbers. On a $250 million production budget and roughly $120 million for marketing, the Moana box office saw just $43 million in North America and $95 million globally.

Unless ticket sales make a big rebound, the film could lose Disney over $100 million. Varietyspoke to several experts about why Moana isn’t performing as expected.

“Disney’s strategy is dependent on whether audiences see the remake as an event or a duplicate,” analyst JeffBock of Exhibitor Relations told the outlet. “This was the latter. People wanted ‘Moana 3,’ not a remake of the original.”

The studio has pioneered adapting animated films into modern live-action remakes. They’ve redone films such as Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Lady and the Tramp to mixed success.

In 2025, the success of the live-action Lilo & Stitch showed Disney that audiences will still show up for remakes. The film was adapted from the 2002 animated version and made over $1 billion.

Disney has begun to run out of classic films to turn into live-action versions, pushing them towards newer successes like Moana.

“The takeaway for Disney has to be, how long does it take for an animated film to become a classic? As we just saw, it’s not about how successful the last film in the series is,” David A. Gross, who runs the FranchiseRe consulting firm, told Variety. “It takes time to be a classic, not just success.”

It may feel rushed to call Moana a “classic” after a decade, but its popularity is indisputable. The film is the most-watched movie on Disney+ and the 2024 sequel made over $1 billion at the box office.

Gross explained that timing is key to the success of remakes. He revealed that, on average, Disney waits 27 years to remake an animated movie. Older films that got remakes, such as Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, both became billion-dollar hits. The audiences who are nostalgic for them grew up in the late 1990s and 2000s and are now old enough to take their children to the theaters.

“During that time, the remakes added an entirely new audience,” Gross said. “It’s been a very successful strategy.”

Moana is currently in theaters.

More than three decades after breaking out of Seattle's legendary grunge scene, Candlebox is gearing up for one of its biggest headlining tours in years.

The multi-platinum alternative rock band has announced the "Can't Quit You Tour," a 32-date North American trek that kicks off Sept. 17 in St. Louis, Missouri, and concludes Oct. 30 in Sayreville, New Jersey. Along the way, the band will be joined by a rotating lineup of special guests, including The Mountain Goats, Sponge, The Verve Pipe, Sweet Water and American Blonde.

Frontman Kevin Martin explained in a statement that the tour's title reflects the band's relationship with its fans.

"The phrase 'Can’t Quit You’ really speaks volumes to how important our fans are to us and the music we create," Martin said. "Candlebox has always relied on the energy our fans bring and the atmosphere that live music brings."

The upcoming run also follows the return of guitarist Peter Klett, who recently rejoined Candlebox after a decade away. Martin says the reunion has reinvigorated the band's creative spirit and helped launch its next chapter.

Formed in Seattle in 1990, Candlebox became one of the breakout acts of the post-grunge era with its quadruple-platinum self-titled debut album in 1993. The record spawned enduring hits including "Far Behind," "You," "Cover Me" and "Change," while the band went on to tour with legendary acts such as Metallica, Rush and Aerosmith.

Several of the supporting artists also shared their excitement about the upcoming tour. The Verve Pipe's Brian Vander Ark called the opportunity "a dream come true," while Sponge frontman Vinnie Dombroski noted that the two bands first toured together in the early 1990s, saying, "We've come full circle."

More than 30 years after its debut album introduced the band to millions of listeners, Candlebox continues to maintain a loyal fan base through a steady schedule of touring and new music. The "Can’t Quit You Tour" gives fans another chance to hear the band's biggest hits while celebrating one of alternative rock’s enduring success stories.

With 32 dates spanning the United States, the tour marks one of Candlebox's most ambitious headlining runs in recent memory—and another milestone for a band that continues to prove its staying power decades after first emerging from Seattle's iconic rock scene.

Bones was one of the top crime series in the early 2000s that starred David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanelas a forensic anthropologist/FBI agent duo, with Boreanaz revealing if a series reunion is in their future.

Having aired in 2005 on FOX, Bones ran for a total of 12 seasons until 2017 and developed a devoted fanbase until its season finale. Over a decade since the police procedural ended, fans are still clinging to the hope that it will one day return. During 2026's Italian Global Series, Boreanaz spoke with ScreenRant and admitted that Bones has always been a series that he was open to revisiting.

"I never know with a show like that. What's great about Bones is you can go in and out. I always said that was the one show that I would definitely revisit, as far as going back, because it would be going back and seeing where these characters are now. Just getting everybody involved would be tricky, be honest with you," he explained.

"I love Art Hansen, the creator, and I talk to him a lot. So, never say never. Everyone's so very busy with other projects right now, but it holds a special place in my heart. I love that show, and I love that character. So, who knows? We'll see."

Boreanaz knows what it takes to bring a beloved series back to life, as his reboot of the 1974 series, The Rockford Files, is set to release in January 2027. The Bones actor admits that he often doesn't revisit past roles and doesn't look too far ahead. He even adds that it's something his co-star Deschanel has often joked about.

"[But] I've always been that type of worker. "What am I working on now? What's the process?" I don't look too far ahead, I never have, and I never look back. Emily [Deschanel] always laughs at me for that one. She's like, "David, you never like reunions." There's a reason. I just don't go back, and I stay really present. We always had this running joke about that for some reason. I think of Emily in regards to that all the time, because the two of us had such a great working relationship, and I adore her," he explained.

Bones focused on the investigative working relationship between the forensic anthropology and forensic archaeology sectors of the "Jeffersonian Institute" and the FBI. It followed FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (Boreanaz) and Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Deschanel), a forensic anthropologist, with her team to solve murder cases involving human remains. The series was even based on the life and novels of forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs.

During its run on TV, Bones released a spinoff series titled The Finder that only ran for one season before its cancellation. A Bones reunion isn't unlikely, as hit series likeCriminal Mindswere greenlit for new seasons after their initial finale in 2020. For now, Bones fans will have to wait and see if a reunion with the original cast is on the table.

Air Supply is extending its 50th anniversary celebration once again.

The soft rock duo has announced two new shows as part of their A Matter of Time tour. 

The new dates announced include Aug. 19 at Ciudad de Guatemala National Theater of Guatemala and Oct. 21 at Ilagan City, Philippines The Capital Arena.

The newly announced shows join an already-stacked tour celebrating the duo’s 50th anniversary with dozens of stops across the US, including several in Texas, Illinois, California, Nevada, Georgia, along with five dates in Honolulu Hawaii.

The tour, which will run into early 2027, will treat audiences to the biggest hits from their enduring catalog along with the newest releases in the group's repertoire, a studio album of the same name, marking the "first collection of new material in 14 years."

Earlier this summer, on June 9th, the group revealed the album that “has been years in the making.”

“After 14 years, the wait is finally over ! We are thrilled to announce that our brand-new album, A Matter of Time, is now available for purchase !!” they wrote on Instagram.

Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock, who make up the iconic duo, met while performing in the Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1975. 

By 1980, they were one of the biggest soft rock acts of the era, clocking 13 Billboard Hot 100 hits, including “All Out of Love” and “Lost in Love.”

Their hit “The One That You Love” hit No. 1, while their streak of 7 straight Top 5 songs tied a record at the time with The Beatles.

And 50 years later, they don’t seem to have any plans of slowing down, still drawing massive crowds decades after their peak.

Is Katy Perry trying to copy Olivia Rodrigo?

The "California Girls" singer was a topic of attention on X after sharing photos of herself on Instagram on Monday, posing in front of a lavender wall. Some were accusing Perry of copying Olivia Rodrigo, because her poses were very similar to the cover of the 23-year-old musician's successful debut album, SOUR, which shows Rodrigo sticking her tongue out in front of a purple wall. In addition, the color purple has been a huge part of Rodrigo's brand since her debut in 2021.

Perry is currently on a summer festival tour, where she has made multiple appearances in various festivals around Europe. On Sunday, she performed at the Nancy Open Air festival in France, where she took the pictures.

Despite just trying to share photos and videos from her performance, many users on X dragged Perry on Twitter, commenting and joking that she was copying the "drop dead" singer.

"She looks like she’s about to release an album called sour," a user joked on Instagram.

"she mad asf that olivia took teenage dream so now she gonna take drivers license," a fan account dedicated to Rodrigo and other pop stars commented. Rodrigo's closing track on GUTS ends with a song called "teenage dream," which is the same title as one of Perry's hit songs and her 2010 album. In addition, Rodrigo mentions the "teenage dream" in "brutal," the opening track of SOUR, where she sings, "I'm so sick of 17, where's my [explicit] teenage dream?"

Another commented, "The desperation to copy Olivia is so obvious atp 🫢💀," along with a GIF of Perry getting slimed at an awards show.

"why is she microwaving olivia's leftovers?" a user asked.

A pop culture account quote-tweeted, "why is she cosplaying olivia now?"

"She got her drivers license last week btw," another joked, referring to Rodrigo's hit song.

Despite the comments, jokes and hate, many of Perry's fans quickly defended the pop star, writing how great she looks on her Instagram and X.

"'katy perry is copying olivia rodrigo'. mind you katy was the only major popstar before olivia to break into mainstream with vintage style & pop rock songs à la alanis, gwen & courtney love," a fan account dedicated to Perry posted on X. "this is literally how she was introduced to the world. she pivoted from it bc of critics."

That same account continued in the comments: "like u must be 12 years old or don’t know pop music history. she was on warped tour, she was the edgy punk rock indie pop girl that never gaf. unfortunately she let fame, money & charts get to her head, but her debut era is very much what olivia is giving."

"Just like a rare doll," another fan account dedicated to Perry commented on Instagram. "Love u, girl! 🥹❤️."

"It was crazy !" an attendee of the Nancy Festival commented. "Thank you 🫶🏻."

Over the years, the two artists have admired each other publicly in various interviews and magazine features. While on the red carpet for her concert film, Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour, in October 2024, Rodrigo praised the "Roar" singer's documentary, Katy Perry: Part of Me, which she said was "so good."

In another instance, on Rodrigo's Rolling Stone cover story back in September 2023, Perry told the publication that she offered to mentor the young pop star when they first met.

"I put my hands on her shoulders and was like, 'Listen, I'm here. Whatever you need.' Because I know exactly what these pop girlies are going through, and when I was growing up, no one really did that for me," Perry recalled.

As for the "Teenage Dream" connections, Perry was delighted to hear it, saying: "It's nice to see it resonating through the ears of different age groups. She's a craftswoman. She's writing about all of our inner thoughts, outward things that we would never say."

There are many female rock vocalists who are celebrated and revered. Stevie Nicks' tantalizing voice and mystical lyrics have fascinated generations of listeners.Ann Wilson's thunderous voice can scale some of the most complicated ranges in music history. And need I say more than simply: Janis Joplin? While many of these singers regularly get their flowers, some have received even more eternal recognition, and few can say their own voice and captivating personality inspired one of the most beloved rock songs of the '60s. But Grace Slick can.

Slick joined Jefferson Airplane in 1966, according to Louder, as a replacement for their original female singer, Signe Toly Anderson, and went on to give them their biggest hits, "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit." She also inadvertently gave Buffalo Springfield one of their most beloved anthems, too: 1967's "Rock and Roll Woman."

Born out of an admiration of Slick, Stephen Stills wrote the lyrics for "Rock and Roll Woman" as an ode to her famous wildness. The iconic psychedelic tune was conjured out of a jam session with David Crosby, who is uncredited on the album for it. According to Rolling Stone, Stills said:

"[It] came from jamming with David Crosby at his house. We got hung up on the F to D change in D-modal, which is mountain minor tuning. We kept playing it over and over and over again."

Despite being a poster child for rock music in the '60s during a heavily male-dominated arena, Slick never really saw herself as the icon everyone else thought she was.

“Women have always been singers," Slick said, according to Louder. "Female Supreme Court judges, that’s impressive. I just thought I was a singer, not Bach or Mozart or Handel. ‘Course, if we were all singers, we’d be in terrible shape. Where would the farmers be? The Airplane let me sing. God bless America for that.”

A Timeless Friendship

Crosby having a heavy hand in developing a song about Slick was extremely fitting, as the two remained friends for decades. Musically, they collaborated several times. Slick sang on Crosby's critically acclaimed debut solo album, If I Could Only Remember My Name. In turn, Crosby appeared on Slick's debut solo album, Manhole, in 1974. On a personal level, the two are heavily intertwined as well; in fact, it was Crosby who helped Slick face her addiction demons.

“It was Crosby who finally helped me get sober in the ’90s,” Slick told Goldmine in 2019. “My daughter called him, and he came right away and got me in rehab. He shows up in the back of a limo, picks me up, and takes me to Exodus, a place here, and it worked. I haven’t done drugs since.”

Slick never had the desire to return to the stage after the 1990s, getting on the sober track. She instead spent her later years as a visual artist, proudly living off Jefferson Airplane checks and staying unbothered by the music industry. She is 86 years old, still paints, and spiritually is still very much the woman who inspired such a stunning rock tribute.

If there's any metal band that deserves to be a household name, it's the unparalleled English band Iron Maiden. I owe a lot of my musical journey to Maiden. They're a large part of the reason why I wanted to be a bass player. I think Steve Harris is one of the greatest bass players of all time, and should be brought up in conversations along with figures like Les Claypool, Jaco Pastorius, and John Entwistle.

Aside from Black Sabbath, they are absolutely your favorite metal band's favorite metal band. If metal music is a relay race, Sabbath absolutely passed the baton to them. Every big hair metal band and thrash metal band owe their whole careers to what Maiden has accomplished over the years. In 2016, Loudwire ranked them the second greatest metal band ever, which I think is absolutely deserved. Their unbelievable consistency and ability is unmatched.

One of the biggest parts of the Iron Maiden brand is their insane live shows, which include flamethrowers, monster slaying, and some unbelievably impressive playing. Fans recently were treated to one of these amazing performances, and were absolutely blown away.

You can see glimpses of the theatrics they get into, with fog and a whole castle style set built behind them. They're absolute must see music that I think everyone can get some entertainment out of.

More than four decades after helping revive rockabilly, The Stray Cats are giving fans even more chances to see them live.

The trio has announced a new batch of fall dates for its 2026 North American tour, extending a run that has already taken the band across the United States. The newly added concerts will kick off after the summer leg, giving fans another opportunity to catch the veteran rockers onstage.

The band shared the news on Instagram, writing: “The Stray Cats are adding fall dates to their cross-country U.S. Tour! 🎫🔥 Tickets go on sale Friday, July 17 at 10:00 AM (local time), Artist Presale begins Tuesday, July 14 at 10:00 AM (local time)."

The newly announced shows expand what has already been one of the band's biggest North American outings in years.

Formed in 1979, The Stray Cats helped spark the rockabilly revival of the early 1980s by blending the energy of 1950s rock 'n' roll with a modern edge. Fronted by guitarist Brian Setzer alongside bassist Lee Rocker and drummer Slim Jim Phantom, the trio broke through with hits including "Stray Cat Strut," "Rock This Town" and "Runaway Boys."

Their influence has endured well beyond their commercial peak.

The band's distinctive sound introduced a new generation to rockabilly while inspiring countless artists across rock, country and punk. Setzer would later enjoy additional success with The Brian Setzer Orchestra, but The Stray Cats have continued reuniting for tours that celebrate the music that made them international stars.

The band was scheduled to tour in fall 2025, but was forced to cancel tour dates after Setzer experiencing health issues.

"It's frustrating when you sit down and your hands do nothing," Setzer told Guitar Player last year. "You really can't take it for granted. Playing guitar is certainly on top, but so is holding a toothbrush, y'know?"

With Setzer back in fighting form, the band is ready to hit the road once again.

"It's good to be healthy and strong again," Setzer said in a statement announcing the new dates. "There's something about the unique sound of the Stray Cats that keeps drawing me in. The Gretsch guitar, the acoustic bass and the stand-up drums still sound pure and fresh today. Come on out and have some fun with us this summer."

The expanded itinerary demonstrates that demand for the ban'’s live performances remains strong more than 45 years after its formation. Fans attending the shows can expect a setlist packed with the group's biggest hits alongside the high-energy performances that have long defined The Stray Cats’ concerts.

With the addition of the new fall dates, The Stray Cats are ensuring their 2026 tour reaches even more fans across the country. Decades after launching the rockabilly revival, the beloved trio continues to prove that its timeless sound remains just as electrifying today as it was in the early 1980s.

Some songs never stop sounding like summer.

Nearly 50 years after its release, Andy Gibb's "I Just Want to Be Your Everything" continues to evoke sunny afternoons, young romance and carefree road trips. The enduring favorite recently earned another major honor when Billboard ranked it No. 9 on its list of the Greatest of All Time Songs of the Summer, placing it alongside some of the most iconic seasonal hits ever recorded.

What makes the achievement even more remarkable is that Gibb was only 18 years old when he recorded the song that would change his life forever.

Released in April 1977 as the lead single from his debut album Flowing Rivers, "I Just Want to Be Your Everything" was written by his older brother Barry Gibb, who also contributed harmony vocals. Andy later recalled, as documented in the book "The Bee Gees: Tales of the Brothers Gibb," watching Barry work at lightning speed.

"Before I knew it he was starting to do the chorus of 'I Just Want to Be Your Everything,' and I thought, 'Wow, what a hook!' He's an expert at his craft. Within about 20 minutes, he'd written a number one record."

The recording also featured Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, helping create the warm, polished sound that made the single an instant classic.

The song became an immediate sensation. It spent four non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, remained in the Top 10 for an extraordinary 16 weeks and finished as Billboard's No. 2 song of 1977. It also earned Gibb a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male.

Its success launched one of the most remarkable chart runs of the era. Gibb became the first solo artist in Billboard history whose first three Hot 100 singles all reached No. 1, following "I Just Want to Be Your Everything" with "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" and "Shadow Dancing." At just 20 years old, he was one of the biggest pop stars in the world.

Sadly, his extraordinary rise was short-lived.

As substance abuse derailed his career in the early 1980s, Gibb struggled personally and professionally despite attempts to stage a comeback. In March 1988, just five days after celebrating his 30th birthday, he died from myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle that doctors said had been worsened by years of cocaine use. His death stunned the music world and cut short the career of a singer many believed still had his greatest work ahead of him.

Yet "I Just Want to Be Your Everything" has outlived its era. Whether heard on classic hits radio, rediscovered on streaming playlists or celebrated by Billboard as one of the greatest Songs of the Summer ever recorded, the song remains a joyful reminder of Andy Gibb at the very beginning of an unforgettable career, when an 18-year-old singer recorded a timeless anthem that still feels like summer nearly five decades later.
