The Breakout Stars of the Women's Final Four Are Behind the Desk
When the Women's Final Four tipped off in Phoenix on Friday night, the basketball was brilliant. South Carolina handed UConn their first loss of the season, while UCLA won its first-ever ticket to the national championship game. The energy on the court was electric, but the trio behind the ESPN desk matched it at every turn. Christine Williamson, Andraya Carter and Chiney Ogwumike have been the heartbeat of ESPN's women's tournament coverage all month. Their chemistry is palpable, their breakdowns are sharp, their energy is infectious, and their genuine love for the women’s game radiates through the screen.
So who are the women behind the desk? Here's everything to know about Christine Williamson, Andraya Carter and Chiney Ogwumike.

If this broadcast desk were a basketball team, Christine Williamson would be the point guard. She keeps the energy flowing, sets up her analysts with seamless transitions, and brings a magnetic presence to the screen.
Williamson’s rise at ESPN has been rapid. After joining the network in 2019 as a digital host, the former University of Miami volleyball player steadily worked her way onto bigger stages. In December 2025, ESPN elevated her to two high-profile roles: co-anchoring the 6 p.m. SportsCenter and serving as the network’s lead women’s college basketball studio host.
What Everyone's Googling: Why Is Christine Williamson Bald?Williamson has been rocking her signature look since her sophomore year of college—and proudly owns the Instagram handle @TheBaldGirl. It has nothing to do with a medical condition; it’s a personal style choice that she's embraced for over a decade. "I chose to shave my head during my redshirt sophomore year," she told MiamiHurricanes.com. "I remember racking my brain about how I can get the elephant in the room on camera and talk about it upfront so people weren’t constantly asking me why I was bald."
Andraya Carter: The Rising Star Three torn ACLs ended her playing career, but Andraya Carter found a new way to dominate the court.Photo by Kai Tsehay on Getty Images
Andraya Carter's ability to make complex basketball strategy smart and accessible has made her one of the fastest-rising stars in sports media. She knows the game inside and out because she's lived and learned it from the best. In high school, she led Buford High School to three state championships and was recruited by the legendary Pat Summitt to play for the Tennessee Lady Vols. A series of devastating injuries—three torn ACLs—forced her into early retirement.
But Carter did anything but pivot away from her hoop dreams. As she chased her goal of becoming a broadcaster, the Georgia native worked 5:00 a.m. shifts at Orangetheory Fitness. Once, she even slept in her car to make a career-defining meeting with ESPN producers. Thanks to her relentless tenacity, she's now the first female analyst to cover all four major basketball properties for the network!
What Everyone's Googling: Is Andraya Carter Married?Yes! In 2019, Carter married professional makeup artist Bre Austin. The couple met at Orangetheory Fitness in Atlanta, where they both worked as coaches.

When you talk about women’s basketball on national television, it helps to have someone who has played at the highest level and ladies and gentlemen, that's Chiney Ogwumike. Her resumé speaks for itself: She was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 WNBA Draft, Rookie of the Year and is a two-time All-Star.
Ogwumike proved just as dominant behind a microphone. In 2020, she became the first Black woman to ever host a national, daily sports-talk radio show on ESPN. The following year, she was named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 List. What makes her so vital to this desk is her locker room perspective. She knows what it feels like to carry a franchise and play through pressure, and the current generation of players deeply respects her voice. "I feel like women’s basketball for so long has been The Hunger Games," she wrote in a 2024 piece for The Players' Tribune. "Every generation has fought to move the game forward. But now we are Catching Fire. We are bringing that main character energy. We have flipped from the chapter titled Survive to the chapter called Thrive."
What Everyone's Googling: Is Chiney Ogwumike Married? She is! Ogwumike married heavyweight boxer and mechanical engineer Raphael Akpejiori in 2023. They hosted nearly 1,000 guests at their epic five-day wedding in Houston.

Legendary Performer Tony Orlando Looks Incredible on 82nd Birthday: ‘It’s So Hard To Believe You’re 82'
Tony Orlando just turned 82, but the musical legend is aging like a fine wine!
Orlando, who skyrocketed to musical superstardom as part of the '70s pop music supergroup Tony Orlando and Dawn, was known for hits like "Knock Three Times" and "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree." The group even had its own hit variety program, The Tony Orlando and Dawn Show, which ran on CBS during the '70s.
While Orlando retired from touring in 2024, he's clearly thriving. Finding Comfort in ReligionWhat keeps Orlando going strong is his faith. Back in 2021, the music man opened up about how his religious faith is the thing that's kept him moving through hard times over the years.
"It all came down to my faith," Orlando told Closer Weekly. "My faith in the Lord was my saving grace. I was ashamed of disappointing God, who had gifted me with all this. I’ve always told people to keep the faith. It sounds like a cliche, but it’s not. You have to keep the faith, so you are not alone."

This Now-Famous Novel Was Thrown in the Trash Before It Became a Bestseller
Fifty-two years ago today, Stephen King published his first novel; and the fact that it exists at all is something of a miracle.
Carrie, the story of a bullied teenage girl with terrifying telekinetic powers, was rejected by publishers a whopping 30 times before it finally found a home. At one point, King was so discouraged that he pulled the manuscript from his typewriter and threw it in the trash. “I did three single-spaced pages of a first draft, then crumpled them up in disgust and threw them away,” King wrote in an essay for The Guardian in 2000.
It was his wife, Tabitha, who retrieved the pages, read them, and told him to keep going. Without her, one of the most celebrated horror novels in history might never have seen the light of day.
Doubleday finally published Carrie on April 5, 1974, and the response was unlike anything the publishing world had seen from a debut novelist. The paperback rights sold for $400,000—an extraordinary sum at the time—and King used half to pay off his debts and support his family, who had been living in a trailer while he worked as a schoolteacher. The novel spent months on bestseller lists.
Just two years after publication, director Brian De Palma adapted Carrie into a film starring Sissy Spacek in the title role and Piper Laurie as her terrifying mother. The 1976 adaptation became a commercial success, earning both actresses Academy Award nominations, which was a rare feat for a horror film at the time. Spacek's portrayal of Carrie White remains one of the most iconic performances in horror cinema.
The novel has since been adapted multiple times, including a 2013 remake starring Chloë Grace Moretz, and a 1988 Broadway musical that was famously short-lived but has since developed a cult following of its own.
For King, Carrie was just the beginning. It launched a career that has produced over 65 novels, hundreds of short stories, and some of the most iconic stories in modern literature. Happy anniversary!
Marquita Goings on the Emotional Transformation of 'Beyond the Gates’ Historic First Year
Beyond the Gates is celebrating its first full year on the air, and now star Marquitta Goings, who plays Haley Hamilton, is reflecting on the milestone.
“I feel like it's been so many emotions, great emotions,” she exclusively tells Parade.
Beyond the Gates is the first new daytime soap to debut in more than 20 years and holds historical significance as the first hour-long soap centered on a predominately Black cast.
Reflecting on the early days, she added, “Just us getting the scripts, and meeting our other castmates, and meeting everyone behind the scenes, it was amazing.”
Goings portrays Haley Hamilton, a scheming vixen who married Bill Hamilton. As the story developed, it was revealed that Haley is a con artist plotting to get her hands on Bill’s fortune.
The actress also spoke about the significance of being part of a groundbreaking project. “Being a part of something that's groundbreaking, that you are at the genesis of, it's just a great feeling,” she said.
Goings noted that joining a soap from the beginning came with unique challenges. “It stretches us as actors, because we're on set every day, 5 days a week, every weekday, dishing out 90 pages a day, that was an adjustment,” she said.
She added that watching both her own growth and that of her castmates has been especially rewarding. “Seeing how we were from the beginning and where we are right now, it's just a transformation,” she said. “It's just been great.”
Goings also emphasized how different the soap format is compared to other acting roles. “We're not doing 10, 15 takes, we are trying to get it out on that first take,” she explained
Reflecting on the experience overall, she described the first year as both challenging and deeply rewarding.
Beyond the Gates airs new episodes weekdays on CBS and weeknights on Paramount Plus. Viewers can watch episodes from the beginning on Paramount Plus or on Pluto TV’s dedicated 24/7 Beyond the Gates FAST channel.

Who Was at the Royal Family’s Easter Celebration?King Charles, 77, and Queen Camilla, 78, stepped out for the traditional Easter walk to St. George’s Chapel on April 5 alongside Prince William, 43, Kate Middleton, 44, and their three children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7. What Does the Royal Family Do on Easter Weekend?Easter is a weekend-long celebration for the royal family. Charles and Camilla attended the Royal Maundy Service on Thursday, April 2. The pair gifted "Maundy Money," a tradition dating back to 600 A.D., to 154 recipients at St. Asaph Cathedral in North Wales. The 77 men and 77 women who received the white and red purses, a symbol commemorating the Last Supper, were selected in recognition of their Christian service to their local communities.
The family reportedly spends Good Friday privately at Windsor. Former royal chef, Darren McGrady, told The Mirror the royals typically dine on hot cross buns for breakfast and a fish dinner.

Charles did not make a public address for Easter, but he and many of his family members attended the Easter Matins church service at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle on April 5.
The King and Queen also sent warm wishes to the public, writing via Instagram, "🐣✝️ Wishing a joyous Easter Sunday to Christians celebrating in the UK, the Commonwealth and around the world today.”
Why Weren’t Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Sarah Ferguson, Princess Beatrice, or Princess Eugenie at Easter? The former Prince Andrew and ex-wife Sarah Ferguson were excluded from the holiday amid their ongoing scandal, with both having ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew, 66, stepped back from his public duties in 2019 at the order of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II. However, he continued to be included in family events, even attending the royals’ 2025 Easter celebration.
King Charles formally stripped his brother’s royal titles of Prince and Duke of York in October 2025 and evicted him from his residence at Royal Lodge. Andrew was arrested on his 66th birthday in February 2026 on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The arrest was related to communications he had with Epstein and allegations that he shared confidential trade information while serving as the UK's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment from 2001 to 2011. He was released after 11 hours under investigation, meaning no charges have been filed yet, BBC reported.

As for Andrew and Sarah’s daughter, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, and their own families, it was revealed before the holiday that they had alternative plans. Although the sisters attended the church service at St. George’s last year, they opted to sit this year out, reportedly after an agreement and understanding with their uncle, King Charles. Beatrice and Eugenie are expected to join future family celebrations.
What Did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Do on Easter? The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and their children, son Prince Archie, 6, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 4, did not attend any Easter festivities in the U.K. Instead, the family enjoyed a ski trip for the holiday.
Meghan, 44, posted a video of Harry, 41, and Archie skiing down a mountain via Instagram on April 3 with the caption, “My boys. Quick learner, Archie! So proud.”
Gabrielle Union Suffers Devastating Family Loss
Gabrielle Union is heartbroken, and she's sharing her grief with the world.
The actress took to Instagram on Saturday, April 4, to pay tribute to her father, Sylvester "Cully" Union Jr., who passed away Friday morning after a long battle with dementia.
In an Instagram Reel full of throwback photos, Union opened up about the painful reality of watching a parent slowly fade, along with the complicated emotions that come with finally letting go.
“No matter how much you think you know about dementia, nothing prepares you for the painfully slow disappearing of your loved one,” Gabrielle, 53, wrote. “First it’s repeating words or forgetting little things here or there, then BOOM, he can’t swallow or walk.”
View this post on InstagramWhat defined Sylvester, according to his daughter, was something far warmer. She remembered him as a "lifelong, die-hard Nebraska fan" who instilled in her a fierce work ethic and a deep understanding of what it means to be part of a team. She described him as a "perfectly imperfect man and father"—someone who didn't shy away from his flaws but faced them head-on, made amends, and kept showing up.

She thanked caregivers and everyone who supported her father in his final years: “I am grateful for all who stepped up in his final years to care, nurture, and love on him. My family and I are eternally grateful for the medical and memory care staff who ensured he had the best care. My sisters who stepped up are heroes, and I love you both beyond words.”
Gabrielle was honest about what she felt after he was gone, too. She wrote that she feels bewildered "for feeling relief the pain has ended, but profound heartbreak at the finality of his time."“I know I’m not the first or last Daddy’s girl to go through this, and I’m sending love and healing to anyone suffering the loss of a parent,” she ended her post. Fans rushed to the comments to send their condolences to the Bring it On star.
Kate Middleton, Prince William and Kids Step Out For First Easter Appearance In Years
Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, Prince William, Prince of Wales and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, returned to the royal family's annual Easter outing this morning, following their absences from the event in 2024 and 2025.
The family hasn't appeared at this annual event since 2023 due to Kate Middleton's cancer diagnosis. However, the royals have now attended the outing once again and stepped out in style, with Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte donning neutrals and the young princes wearing suits mirroring Prince William's style.

Kate Middleton announced her cancer diagnosis in 2024, the same year that King Charles III revealed his own diagnosis. It has since been confirmed that the Princess of Wales is in remission, although King Charles' remission has not been announced thus far. Sources have indicated that the king is responding well to treatment, however. Since that update on the princess's health in 2025, Middleton has had an increasing number of public appearances.
Although the exact type of cancer Middleton had remains unknown to the public, as is King Charles' specific cancer diagnosis, the royal family did share that the princess had undergone abdominal surgery. One year after her remission, though, it seems that the Princess of Wales is doing well.
It was indeed a very pleasant surprise to see the royal family stepping out all together again for the Easter outing for the first time in several years. Speculation remains about whether Middleton will attend some upcoming events, including the Royal Ascot in June (and reports indicate that other royal family members' attendance is in question as well), but for now, it seems that Kate Middleton and Prince William may finally be ready to return to a more public role.
Dog the Bounty Hunter Pretended To Knock Out the Easter Bunny: ‘No Warrants. Just Eggs and Candy'
Dog the Bounty Hunter (real name: Duane Chapman) is finding a little humor this Easter holiday.
The reality star, who appeared on reality series including Dog the Bounty Hunter, Dog and Beth: On the Hunt, and Dog's Most Wanted, made the best of his visit to the Easter Bunny with a fun series of staged photos that show him pretending to take down the furry friend amid his mall setting.
"🐰🚨 THE EASTER BUNNY ALMOST GOT BOUNTIED 🚨🐰 Rolled up and caught this one lurkin’… big ears, bright colors… thought he could blend in. I stepped in close — told him straight… you can run… but you can’t hide. Checked him out. No warrants. Just eggs and candy. Lucky day, bunny. 😂🤙🏼," Chapman captioned the photo set, which ended in the duo posing together happily.

While Chapman's Easter post was all humor, it's been a challenging year for the reality star. His stepson, Gregory Zecca, was arrested in February after a six-month-long investigation into the death of his 13-year-old son, Anthony, NBC News reported.
In an update on Facebook, Florida’s Collier County Sheriff’s Office shared a statement that Zecca accidentally shot his child while under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. He was later charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence, the post noted.
After the child's death, Chapman shared a statement with TMZ and expressed his tremendous grief.
“We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible, tragic accident and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony,” Chapman and his wife, Francie, said.
Expressing His Love for Chuck NorrisAfter the death of beloved star Chuck Norris, Chapman took to Instagram to share a touching post in his honor.
"Chuck was the real deal, strong, disciplined, and a man of faith. I respected him greatly. He impacted me more than people know, the way he carried himself and stood firm stayed with me. I honor him and I’m grateful for all he gave.
We are praying for his family and his loved ones. Aloha brother ❤️🤙🏼," Chapman wrote.

This 1957 Classic 'I Love Lucy' Episode Ranked as One of the 'Weirdest TV Crossovers of All Time'
The black-and-white sitcomI Love Lucywas all fun and laughs, thanks toLucille Balland Desi Arnaz. In January 1957, the popular sitcom released an episode that included another TV icon, but was also seen as one of the oddest TV crossovers.
According to a list by Rolling Stone, there's a handful of TV crossover episodes that were just bizarre and ranked some of the "weirdest" to ever premiere. One of the entries was the I Love Lucy episode "Lucy and Superman", and based on the title alone, fans can deduce who was the special guest.
It was the 13th episode of its sixth season and involved a guest appearance by TV icon George Reeves, who was known for his infamous role as Clark Kent, aka Superman. The actor played the comic book hero in the TV series Adventures of Superman from 1952 until 1958, and cemented himself as one of the original live-action versions of the character.
What makes the crossover so interesting isn't Reeves himself, but how he fits into the episode storyline and how he's addressed. The episode starts with Ricky (Arnaz) watching the latest Adventures of Superman with his son, Little Ricky (Richard Keith), and news of Superman being in town at Macy's in New York. With Ricky's birthday over the weekend, Lucy promises to take him to meet Superman.

Trouble is afoot when Lucy and Caroline (Doris Singleton) get into an argument, realizing both of their sons will host a birthday party on the same day. Lucy worries Little Ricky's friends won't show up and ditch him for the other party. She vows to have better entertainment and tells Ricky to try to get Superman to attend the party, seeing as Ricky has met him before in Hollywood.
In the end, Superman is unable to attend and to save the day, Lucy decides to dress up as the hero, use a vacant apartment next door to climb onto the ledge, and surprise the birthday party. Things change when the real Superman changes his mind after learning it's for a children's birthday party, as Lucy gets trapped on the ledge in the pouring rain. The episode ends with Superman climbing onto the ledge to save her.
What makes it so bizarre? According to Rolling Stone, it's whether Reeves is playing Superman, or is he playing Reeves as Superman? "Reeves was uncredited in the episode, and his name is never uttered, since Ball and company wanted to preserve the magic for any of their younger viewers," they said. Is Superman real in this sitcom universe?
'80s Rock Icon Makes Surprise Comeback With Theme Song for HBO Max Comedy
Michael Stipe, the charismatic frontman of ’80s and ’90s rock darlings R.E.M., is making a comeback. Stipe sings the theme song to one of HBO Max’s most searing new comedies, joining fellow icons like Kate Bush,David Byrne, and Trent Reznor, who are reintroducing themselves to new audiences through TV, film, and stage productions. Stipe has largely focused on visual art and political advocacy since R.E.M. disbanded in 2011, but now he’s reaching an entirely new audience through the power of television.
Who Is the ’80s Rock Icon Behind the Rooster Theme Song? @deciderdotcomBill Lawrence still can't believe his future son-in-law Andrew Watt and the legendary Michael Stipe collab'd on the theme song for Rooster. #billlawrence #rem #michaelsipe #andrewwatt
♬ original sound - Decider - DeciderFans of HBO Max’s new hit comedy Rooster, starring The Office alum Steve Carell, were quick to notice Stipe’s emotionally haunting voice on the show’s theme song, “I Played the Fool.” The track, performed by Stipe and Andrew Watt (show creator Bill Lawrence's future son-in-law), captures the show’s nostalgic themes—albeit with a modern edge. In Rooster, Carell’s Greg Russo returns to college—not as a student, but as a teacher—at a point in his life when he’s forced to confront past mistakes while trying to reshape his future.
What the Rooster Theme Song Reveals About the Show’s ToneThe show’s soundtrack is heavily rooted in the ’80s, featuring songs by INXS, Violent Femmes, and New Order, as well as Fun Boy Three’s chart-topping cover of Our Lips Are Sealed, originally by The Go-Go’s. It reflects what would have been the height of Carell’s character’s college years, while also incorporating modern acts like Cage the Elephant, CHVRCHES, and Florence + The Machine. With this blend of past and present, Stipe finds himself back in the spotlight—and even brushing the music charts—once again.
The Rooster theme song marks a rare and high-profile vocal release from Stipe, whose instantly recognizable voice sets the tone for the show’s moody, introspective themes.
Stipe has remained largely out of the spotlight since R.E.M. officially called it quits in 2011. One of the most iconic voices of the late ’80s and early ’90s, he became known for his haunting delivery, poetic lyricism, and enigmatic persona.

Why ’80s Music Is Having a Major Comeback Right Now @paulporowskiR.E.M frontman Michael Stipe out at the HBO max Rooster event #rem #music
♬ Losing My Religion - R.E.M.The soundtrack’s heavy lean into ’80s music is part of a broader trend of artists from the era making a comeback. Kate Bush returned to the top of the charts after her 1985 hit "Running Up That Hill" was featured in Stranger Things. Meanwhile, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor—who helped define the ’90s rock sound—has become a two-time Academy Award winner for scoring films like The Social Network and Soul, both collaborations with Atticus Ross.
Stipe’s contribution isn’t just a musical footnote—it’s part of a larger cultural moment, one that introduces some of the most influential voices of the ’80s and ’90s to new audiences through television and film, while bringing Gen X listeners back to the music that defined their youth.
Like the music of the ’80s, Michael Stipe is back. Though, judging by the popularity of the Rooster soundtrack, he never really left—he just chose the right moment to let his legendary voice be heard again.
On This Day in 1996: A Secret Daughter Arrived in 'General Hospital'—And Daytime TV Was Never the Same
On this day in 1996, General Hospital was forever changed with the arrival of Carly Roberts (Caroline Benson), as future Daytime Emmy winner Sarah Joy Brown made her debut.
The character quickly ingrained herself in Bobbie Spencer’s (Jacklyn Zeman) life, enrolling in a nursing program General Hospital and inserting herself into her world. Carly ultimately began a relationship with Bobbie’s husband, Tony Jones (Brad Maule).
It was eventually revealed that Carly was Bobbie’s daughter, given up at birth and adopted by Frank and Virginia Benson. Carly, born Caroline, grew up in a troubled home, as Virginia struggled with alcoholism and emotional abuse.
As a young woman, Caroline befriended another woman named Carly Roberts. After a car accident left the real Carly incapacitated, and following an affair with Carly’s father, Caroline assumed her identity and moved to Port Charles, determined to confront the mother she believed had abandoned her.
Throughout Brown’s tenure, Carly’s path to revenge was filled with twist and turns. Although she developed real feelings for Tony, she continued making self-destructive choices, including a one-night stand with A.J. Quartermaine (Sean Kanan) that resulted in the birth of her son, Michael.
It was through Michael’s birth that Carly finally revealed the truth about her identity to Bobbie, who only believed her after Virginia arrived in Port Charles.

(Photo by Mitchell Haaseth /American Broadcasting Companies via Getty Images)Throughout the years, Carly would go on to become one of the most iconic and controversial characters in soap opera history, and remains one of the most divisive characters on the series.
Over time, Carly became one of General Hospital’s central characters. After Brown’s exit in April 2001, the role was recast with Tamara Braun and Jennifer Bransford, before Laura Wright took over the role in 2005 and became its longest-running portrayer.
In April 2014, Brown, Braun, and Wright all portrayed Carly in a special episode, dream sequence, celebrating General Hospital’s 51st anniversary.
Following her departure, Brown continued working steadily in daytime television joining As the World Turns in 2004 as Julia Morrisey Larrabee, The Bold and the Beautiful in 2009 as Aggie Jones, and Days of Our Lives in 2011 as Madison James.
In 2008, Brown returned to General Hospital in a new role, portraying mobster Claudia Zacchara until 2009.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and streams weeknights on Hulu.
Best-Selling Author’s Novel Ranked ‘Best Book of This Century’ on Goodreads
Few novels have pushed the boundaries of storytelling quite like Cloud Atlas.
The bestselling book by David Mitchell has been ranked the “best book of this century” on Goodreads, based on reader votes. The recognition highlights the novel's lasting appeal, with readers continuing to revisit its intricate and unconventional narrative structure.
Originally published in 2004, Cloud Atlas unfolds as a series of six interconnected narratives that span centuries and genres, beginning in 1850 with Adam Ewing, an American notary traveling across the Pacific whose journey takes a mysterious turn when he falls ill under the care of a questionable physician.
The story then leaps forward to 1930s Belgium, where a struggling composer becomes entangled in a complicated artistic and personal relationship, before shifting again to a 1970s investigative journalist uncovering a dangerous corporate conspiracy. From there, the novel moves through a darkly comic present-day England, a futuristic Korean society shaped by extreme capitalism, and finally a post-apocalyptic Hawaii, where civilization hangs by a thread.
The narrative then reverses course, retracing each storyline in a mirrored structure that reveals how these seemingly separate lives are deeply connected across time. Blending adventure, mystery and philosophical inquiry, the novel explores questions of identity, power and human connection, illustrating how individual actions echo across generations, linking its characters in ways that are both subtle and profound.
The novel is widely praised for its ambitious structure and genre-blending approach, weaving together elements of historical fiction, science fiction, mystery and dystopian storytelling. At its core, it examines themes of power, freedom and the enduring impact of human connection.
"That so many disparate ideas can coexist in the same artistic space is a testament to the capacious 'broad church' nature of the novel as a form," Mitchell told The Guardian. The Russian-doll structure gets remarked on a lot, often with the word 'ambitious'. I can’t truthfully claim I set out to be ambitious: it was much more a question of, 'What’ll happen if I try this?'"
Its influence extended beyond the page with the release of Cloud Atlas in 2012, directed by the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer. The film featured an ensemble cast including Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Hugh Grant, with actors portraying multiple roles across timelines. While ambitious in scope, the adaptation further introduced the novel's complex narrative to a global audience.
Over the years, Cloud Atlas has remained a staple in literary discussions, often cited for its originality and emotional depth.
With its latest recognition on Goodreads, the novel's legacy is once again reaffirmed, proving that its bold storytelling continues to resonate with readers well into the 21st century.

Nancy Guthrie Update: ‘Ride or Die’ Comment Suggests Those Involved Won’t Turn on Each Other
True crime podcaster Josh Diaz appeared on a recent episode of The Interview Room to discuss the Nancy Guthrie case. While speaking alongside a panel of other experts, Diaz explained why he believes no one has come forward yet, despite the $1.2 million reward.
"I think that it's more than one person involved in this, and I think the reason that nobody's come forward—and I think that, you know, two to three [suspects]—is that they can't do that without incriminating themselves," Diaz said.
"They have to say everything they've done, everything that they know...I don't think it would be that easy for somebody to turn on their co-conspirator...I think whoever is involved in this is kind of ride or die together now," he continued.
Earlier in the podcast, retired FBI Special Agent Maureen O'Connell said that she doesn't believe there are more than two suspects because she thinks "someone would have gone for the money."
At the end of February, more than 25 days after Guthrie's disappearance, Savannah Guthrie said that the family would offer a $1 million reward for the "recovery" of her mom.
"We need to know where she is. We need her to come home," Savannah said. Despite the reward money offered, no one has come forward with information that has led to finding Nancy, 84, or the person or persons behind her disappearance.
The case has entered its third month and new information seems sparse at this point in time. While Sheriff Chris Nanos insists that the case hasn't gone cold, many experts believe that the case won't be solved unless someone speaks up.

10 Hidden Details and Easter Eggs to Spot in the New World of Frozen
The gates are officially open. As of March 29, 2026, Disneyland Paris has unveiled its massive reimagining of its second gate: Disney Adventure World. Anchored by the 118-foot North Mountain and the sprawling Arendelle Bay, this isn't just a theme park expansion—it's a masterclass in immersive storytelling.
During my recent walk-through the day before the grand opening and a deep-dive panel discussion with the creative team behind the land, I discovered that Arendelle is packed with hidden details that serve to blur the line between the films we love and the world we’re now walking through. From royal height charts to a "living" Olaf, here are 10 World of Frozen Easter eggs to discover on your first visit.

View this post on Instagram 1. Spot the Royal Height ChartBefore you meet the sisters at the Royal Encounter in Arendelle Castle, look closely at the wooden posts in the Portrait Gallery queue. Tucked in the first room (just after the counter), you’ll find the height marks left by Anna and Elsa as children. "It gives the place a warmer, more intimate feel," the Imagineering team shared. It makes the castle feel like a lived-in family home rather than a cold museum.
2. Settle the "Samantha" MysteryIn the village of Arendelle, keep an eye out for a local newspaper clipping tucked into the scenery. It officially announces that "Samantha has been found." It’s a hilarious nod to Olaf’s viral, improvised line in Frozen 2—and a perfect example of how the park rewards the eagle-eyed fans who know every line of the lore.
3. The "Little Tin Soldier" TributeLook up at the facades above the Arendelle shops to see a wooden toy soldier perched on a ledge. If you look closely, you’ll notice he’s missing a leg. This is a brilliant nod to Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Tin Soldier, honoring the Danish author whose fairy tales inspired the original Snow Queen story.
4. Listen for Olaf’s "Living" One-LinersDuring the Snowflower Festival, keep your ears open for Olaf’s dialogue. Thanks to next-gen robotic technology, this Olaf isn't just a recording—he reacts to the environment. As Dana Harrel, VP of Disney Live Entertainment, shared during our press roundtable: "He moves, he reacts... we’ve packed his dialogue with new jokes and one-liners that change depending on the time of day." It makes every show feel like a unique performance.

5. The Character Arc You Can HearOn the Frozen Ever After boat ride, pay close attention to Elsa’s iconic anthem. The lyrics have been subtly updated to reflect this land’s "Happily Ever After" setting. Instead of singing about "seeing" what she can do, Elsa now sings it’s time to "share" what she can do. It’s a tiny shift that signals her growth as a transparent and confident leader of her people.
6. Spot Bruni’s Three CameosBruni, the adorable fire spirit from Frozen 2, is hiding in plain sight. You can spot the little salamander in three distinct locations: near the lighthouse, perched on a pergola and sunning himself on a rock near the edge of the lake. It’s a mini-spotting game for the kids (and the kids-at-heart).
7. The Cat in the Tavern WindowAbove the entrance to the Nordic Crowns Tavern, a small cat watches the visitors below. This feline friend is a nod to the short Olaf's Frozen Adventure. Fun fact for global travelers: there is a counterpart to this cat located at the Golden Crocus Inn in Hong Kong Disneyland!
8. The "EPCOT" ConnectionInside the Nordic Crowns Tavern, look for a painting of a charming red house. This is a "park-to-park" Easter egg representing the Royal Sommerhus, the meet-and-greet location found in the Norway pavilion at EPCOT in Walt Disney World. It’s a subtle bridge between the Disney destinations worldwide.
9. The Sisterhood in the SkylineLook closely at the Nordic Crowns Tavern and the Arendelle Castle. The design intentionally mirrors the two sisters' personalities. The warm wood and floral "rosemaling" represent Anna’s sunny nature, while the sharper, symmetrical lines and icy spires reflect Elsa’s power. As Michel den Dulk, WDI Executive Creative Director, noted: "Every detail is here... it’s this emotional experience of walking through these areas."
10. The Boat Named "Snødronningen"Take a stroll by the docks of Arendelle Bay and check the names on the boats. One is named Snødronningen, which is the Danish title for The Snow Queen. It’s a sophisticated tribute to the original 1844 fairy tale that started it all, grounding the park in its literary roots.

1973 One-Hit Wonder Became a Classic Rock Teen Anthem—Then It Hit Again in the '80s
In 1973, Brownsville Station soared up the music charts with the song "Smokin’ in the Boys Room.” Written by Michael Lutz and Cub Koda, the song about high school rebellion appeared on the 1973 album Yeah! “Smokin’ in the Boys Room” peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 after its release in October 1973.
The song was never expected to be a hit. Speaking with Classic Rock magazine in an interview, Lutz admitted, “I confess that I personally never got into smoking in the boys’ room at school, but it seemed like a good topic to write about. It was fun, and it was rebellious, and that was indicative of what Brownsville was about. But we didn’t think it was a hit. “
He also revealed that the band was unsure about the song, which was the last track on the second side of Yeah!
"But there was a radio station in Bangor, Maine, and they started spinning it, and the phones just lit up,” he said. “Smokin’ blew things wide open.”
While “Smokin’ in the Boys Room” went gold, the song’s theme ultimately pigeon-holed Brownsville Station as more of a “bubblegum” act. The Michigan-based band never had another Top 10 hit again and broke up in 1979. In 2012, Lutz reformed a new version of the band.

The song ‘saved’ an iconic ‘80s bandIn 1985, “Smokin’ in the Boys Room” was covered by Mötley Crüe. At the time, the glam rock band had already experienced success with their album Shout at the Devil, but they needed a hit follow-up to cement their status in the crowded hair band genre.
By the time Mötley Crüe recorded their next album Theater of Pain, lead singer Vince Neil was embroiled in serious legal trouble over a fatal car crash. While he was forced into sobriety, other bandmates were struggling with drug addiction during the songwriting sessions.
In his memoir, Tattoos & Tequila, Neil recalled, “It was me who suggested covering 'Smokin' in the Boys Room.’ Everybody knows that song kind of saved our a--es at that time."
Motley Crue’s version of “Smokin’ in the Boys Room” went to No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Sept. 7, 1985, and was on the music chart for a total of 15 weeks.
In an interview with Ear of Newt, Guitarist Mick Mars said he knew the song from the ‘70s and agreed to Neil’s suggestion that the band try it. “It just worked,” he said. “I listened to that song a lot, but…. Sorry Cub [ I did not go out and buy the album or nothin’,” he cracked of Brownsville Station’s original version.
Lutz later said he liked Motley Crüe’s version of the song that he wrote more than a decade prior. “They stuck to the form of the song,” he told Classic Rock. “It had a structure to it, and it has to be done that way. They honored the song.”
11 Best Gourmand Perfumes That Actually Smell ‘Delectable,’ Fragrance Expert Reveals
Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
If you’re into perfume, you obviously love smelling good. But not everyone has the same taste, and different fragrance categories appeal to different people. There are floral scents that are great for people who love rose, lavender, peonies and more. There are woodsy scents that can give more of a spicy musk. And then you have gourmand perfumes, which are perfect for people who love vanilla, caramel and chocolate scents.
But if you want to get into the nitty gritty of gourmand perfumes—what they are, what scents they include and what the most popular ones are—then you’ve come to the right place. Parade spoke to fragrance influencer Paul Fino, who knows quite a lot about these kinds of fragrances. So much so, in fact, that he’s the self-proclaimed “King of Gourmands,” as stated in his bios on social media. Fino has over 2.7 million TikTok followers and almost 630k followers on Instagram—where he goes by the handle @paulreactss—and is one of our favorite go-to fragrance experts.
So not only does Fino know the best fragrance layering combinations and the 411 on the newest perfumes, he knows the best gourmand perfumes to choose from and shares them with Parade. Did your favorite make it to the list? Share your favorite gourmand perfume in the comments!
What Is a Gourmand Perfume?“Gourmand perfumes are fragrances built around edible, dessert-inspired notes,” Fino tells Parade. “Think vanilla, caramel, chocolate, coffee, nuts—the scents that make you feel warm, cozy and slightly indulgent.”
But if you’re someone who is immediately thinking, “Oh, I don’t like sickly sweet smells,” don’t worry. Gourmand perfumes don’t have to be overly sweet, and in fact, Fino shares that good ones won’t give you a toothache.
“The best gourmands don’t smell literal, like you spilled dessert on yourself,” he states. “Instead, they capture the feeling of something sweet and comforting, wrapped in skin.”
In addition to not being overwhelmingly sweet, what else makes a gourmand perfume good? He shares that after trying hundreds of gourmand fragrances through the years, he’s “definitely become harder to impress, especially when it comes to vanilla.” But some things stick out about the best of the best.
“Performance matters. Longevity matters. Quality matters,” he notes. “I own several vanillas that smell similar at first spray, but what separates the good from the great is how they wear on skin. A gourmand should feel rich, creamy and addictive for hours, not disappear after thirty minutes.”
Fino shared the best long-lasting perfumes with Parade in the past, and he gives another instance with a gourmand perfume.
“Take Bianco Latte ($160) as an example,” he shares. “There are countless scents inspired by it, but only a few really stand out to me: the original Bianco Latte, That Girl | Viral Vanilla by Oakcha and Velvet Cream by Khadlaj ($40). They all share that dense, creamy quality that clings to skin. That’s what makes a gourmand memorable instead of forgettable.”

What Are the Most Popular Gourmand Scent Profiles?Even if you didn’t know what a gourmand perfume was before this, you’ve definitely smelled scents in this category. And you can probably guess what the most popular scent profiles are in terms of gourmand fragrances, too.
“Vanilla is the clear number one,” Fino confirms as the top gourmand scent. “It always wins. If I had to rank them: Vanilla at the top, then caramel, pistachio, milk and finally chocolate.”
As for why he put chocolate last, the fragrance influencer shares that it’s the scent in this class of fragrances that’s still a bit hard to do well.
“Chocolate is tricky, and I think people are still learning how good it can be when it’s done right,” he shares. “A scent like Le Gourmand by Jousset proves that chocolate can be rich, smooth and wearable—not synthetic or childish.”

11 Best Gourmand Perfumes, According to a Fragrance ExpertSo whether you already know you’re a gourmand girlie or you want to try out some delectable scents to see if it’s right for you, Fino shares his 11 favorite gourmand perfumes.
1. That Girl | Viral Vanilla by Oakcha x PaulReactss, $55Oakcha
Fino has a few collaborations with Oakcha under his belt. And being the "King of Gourmands," one of his scents is a vanilla fragrance called That Girl | Viral Vanilla. And not to toot his own horn, but it’s the first on this list because it really does give a luscious vanilla smell for a non-luxury price.
“[It's] a sweet, creamy caramel vanilla that lasts for hours and costs under $55,” he tells Parade. “I helped create this scent by blending inspiration from seven of my favorite vanilla gourmands—including Bianco Latte and Vanille 44—plus a few notes I like to keep secret. There’s a reason this is one of Oakcha’s bestsellers.”
2. Vanilla | 28 by Kayali, $103.78A
Shop it on AmazonNext up, Fino shares that Kayali’s Vanilla 28 has to be one of the perfumes on this list. Not only does it smell great, but it’s a good starter vanilla perfume for newbies to the fragrance.
“[This is] a sweet, musky vanilla that feels mature and sexy. This is a gateway vanilla for so many people,” he states. “I’ve rated it a 6.5 out of Kayali’s full lineup, but within gourmands, it’s easily a top favorite. [It's] simple, sensual and worth the hype we all collectively gave it on TikTok.”
3. Cheirosa 59 by Sol de Janeiro, $26-$39Ulta Beauty
Shop it at Ulta BeautyYet another popular brand on this list for anyone who likes fragrances, Sol de Janeiro’s Cheirosa 59 is a favorite gourmand of Fino’s.
He describes it as: “Vanilla buttercream with soft violet and a smooth sandalwood base. Even though it’s a mist, the scent itself is so special. It’s creamy but airy—like whipped frosting that somehow feels clean.”
But if that worries you because it might smell too sweet, the fragrance influencer wants to quell your fears.
“The violet keeps it from leaning juvenile, and the sandalwood gives it warmth,” he says. “This one made me finally understand violet.”
4. What The Fluff by Aspiring Aromas, $24.99-$84.99Aspiring Aromas
A fun name for a scrumptious scent, What The Fluff by indie perfume brand, Aspiring Aromas, had to be on this list for Fino. And don’t let the “marshmallow” smell fool you; it’s not gimmicky or cheap-smelling.
“An indie marshmallow and vanilla cream scent that completely surprised me,” he shares, describing it as “long-lasting, strong and affordable. This isn’t plastic marshmallow—it’s the idea of marshmallow: fluffy, airy, creamy and soft. It sells out constantly for a reason.”

5. Sticky Dates Body Spray by Lush – $42Lush
Shop it at LushLush is known for its bath bombs and body care, and that includes body mists that smell oh-so-good. Fino shares that he loves Sticky Dates by Lush because it’s such a potent, super long-lasting and delightful fragrance.
“This one is intense—and polarizing—in the best way," he says.
Fino describes the scent as "sticky, caramelized dates soaked in sugar with a warm, almost spiced richness," adding, "It’s bold, loud and refuses to disappear. My husband spilled this on my airport outfit, and I could still smell it after five washes. If you want a gourmand that commits, this is it.”
6. Unmute by NOYZ – $38-$85NOYZ
Shop it at NOYZThis perfume is one of the best gourmands around because its mixture of fragrance notes is rich in both how it smells and what it smells like.
“Amber, plum and vanilla with a luxe feel,” Fino says, describing the fragrance. “If you love Cheirosa 40, this is the grown, sexy version. I was one of the first people to try it, and watching it become a viral favorite has been wild. I wore this all through Coachella 2023, and the compliments were nonstop.”
7. Dream by The Maker – $175Sephora
Shop it at SephoraAs you can probably already tell from others on this list, gourmand perfumes do not have to be overly-sweet at all. And this is true with Dream by The Maker as well—a fragrance with a sweet scent mixed with some spice and musk.
Fino describes the notes as “a warm, spiced vanilla buttercream with sandalwood."
And interestingly, it wasn’t a no-brainer hit for him when he first tried it. But it eventually made an impression on him and ended up on this list.
“This one took time for me,” the fragrance influencer tells Parade. “It wasn’t instant love—but it kept pulling me back. I’ve gone through more than a bottle now. It’s cozy, grown and quietly addictive.”
8. Vanilla Cashmere by EOS – $12.99Target
Shop it at TargetEOS makes those circular lip balms we used to love in our youth, and they still hit home runs with their body care line of body lotion and soap, shaving creams and more. This also includes body mists, one of which deserves a spot as one of the best gourmand perfumes, according to Fino.
“[It's] now available as a body mist, and [has been] famously viral for a reason,” he shares, describing the scent as “caramel, creamy vanilla and soft musk that feels comforting and familiar.”
So familiar that it reminds him of Vanilla Bean Noel, but a “cleaner and more wearable” version. BBW fans will know that scent as a classic Bath & Body Works holiday fragrance that typically comes back yearly.
“[It's] nostalgic, crowd-pleasing and instantly comforting,” he says of Vanilla Cashmere.
9. Eilish Eau de Parfum – $82Sephora
Shop it at SephoraLike many celebrities and pop icons, Billie Eilish has a few of her own perfumes, and Fino loves this first release from the singer.
“[It's] a rich blend of vanilla, tonka bean and soft red berries,” he shares. “I keep it honest with celebrity fragrances, and this one is excellent. It launched in 2021, and it still holds a place in my top ten gourmands of all time. Easily one of the best celebrity perfumes ever made.”
10. Choco Musk by Al-Rehab – Starting at $7.39Amazon
Shop it on AmazonA favorite over on TikTok and beyond, Choco Musk is one of the best gourmand perfumes in Fino’s eyes (and many others’ too). He says that “for nine dollars, this delivers,” but you can even get it for cheaper depending on how much Amazon is selling it for at the moment.
As for what it smells like—though you might be able to take some guesses by just looking at its name—the fragrance influencer says that its scent is “chocolate marshmallow fluff—soft, airy and edible.”
“It doesn’t last long, but at this price point, it’s cheaper than most body mists,” he points out. “If this exact scent ever came in a longer-lasting formula, it would change lives.”
11. Strawberry Sensation by Oakcha x PaulReactss – $55Oakcha
Last but certainly not least is another one of Fino’s creations with Oakcha: Strawberry Sensation. He describes its fragrance notes as “fresh-picked strawberries, whipped buttercream and smooth sandalwood.”
(And on a personal note, I received this when it dropped, and it has become one of my favorite perfumes in my collection—which I was surprised by, since I wasn’t a strawberry scent girl beforehand.)
“I created this with one goal: a true strawberry-and-cream scent that didn’t smell artificial or overly sweet,” Fino says. “This was my first fragrance made without referencing any existing scent. And honestly, I think it made strawberry the fruit of the year!”

Randy Travis' Iconic 2002 Hit Ranked Among the Best Country Tracks for Easter
Country music has no shortage of faith-based hit songs that are perfect for the Easter holiday, and one of Randy Travis' iconic tracks is up there with the best of them.
The legendary crooner's 2002 track "Three Wooden Crosses" was named among the best country faith songs for Easter, according to a list assembled by American Songwriter—which also includes songs by Dolly Parton, Alan Jackson, Blake Shelton and more.
"Three Wooden Crosses," was featured on Travis' 2002 country gospel album Rise and Shine. It tells the story of a fatal bus crash that kills three people: a farmer, a teacher and a preacher. The fourth rider, a prostitute, is revealed to have survived the crash and received the preacher's "blood-stained Bible," which leaves a lasting impact on both her and her child.
In the lyrics, Travis sings:
"There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway
Why there’s not four of them, now I guess we know
It’s not what you take when you leave this world behind you
It’s what you leave behind you when you go"
The profound message of the song and its commentary on faith enduring through tragedy was constructed by Kim Williams and Doug Johnson, who co-wrote the song together.
"Three Wooden Crosses" became Travis' 16th and final No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. It was nominated at the 2004 Grammys for Best Male Country Vocal Performance, while its host album, Rise and Shine, won the award for Best Southern, Country, or Bluegrass Gospel Album that year.
The fitting Easter track was crowned the 2004 Christian Country Song of the Year at the 35th Annual Dove Awards, put on by the Gospel Music Association (GMA), and was also named the CMA Song of the Year by the Country Music Association in 2003.
Along with Travis' massively successful hit, other gospel-inspired songs that are considered Easter go-to's include Blake Shelton's "Savior's Shadow," Alan Jackson's "He Lives," Dolly Parton's "He's Alive" and Alabama's "Because He Lives."

4-Time Grammy Winner to Headline Charity Night for Senior Rescue Dogs
If you needed a reason to plan a night out in Denver this summer, this might be it.
Rock icons Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo—better known together as Benatar + Giraldo—are set to headline a special charity event that’s all about giving back to some very deserving dogs.
The duo will take the stage at the "Pepper ‘Em with Love Gala" on August 19 at Mission Ballroom, with the evening benefiting Pepper’s Senior Dog Sanctuary, a nonprofit dedicated to caring for senior dogs in their later years.
And this isn’t just any concert.
The evening kicks off with a cocktail hour (yes, there’s a red carpet—and yes, it includes senior dogs), followed by a seated dinner, live and silent auctions, and an inspiring program centered around the sanctuary’s mission. Then comes the main event: an intimate, 60-minute performance from Benatar + Giraldo.
If you’ve ever belted out "Love Is a Battlefield" or "We Belong," you already know what kind of energy they bring. The husband-and-wife duo have been making music together for decades, racking up 19 Top 40 hits, four consecutive Grammy Awards and more than 36 million records sold worldwide. But what makes this night especially meaningful is the cause behind it.

So whether you’re in it for the music, the cause, or the chance to meet some very good boys and girls on the red carpet, this is shaping up to be one unforgettable night with heart in all the right places.
