Ann Patchett Calls Katie Couric's April Book Club Pick 'Brilliant'
Katie Couric has announced her April 2026 book club pick, and it’s a novel that’s already achieved major acclaim in the literary world. The journalist and former Today Show host selected James by Percival Everett for this month’s read, bringing renewed attention to the critically acclaimed book as it's released in paperback.
Originally published in 2024, James reimagines Adventures of Huckleberry Finn—but with a powerful change in perspective. The story centers on Jim, here called James, an enslaved man who is escaping bondage. In Everett’s version, James is not a background character as he was in the original, but a highly intelligent, reflective figure who must carefully navigate a dangerous world while concealing the full extent of his intellect.
Ann Patchett, author of Bel Canto, and one of the most respected and established writers in modern American literature, says of the book, “James is funny and horrifying, brilliant and riveting. In telling the story of Jim instead of Huckleberry Finn, Percival Everett delivers a powerful, necessary corrective to both literature and history. I found myself cheering both the writer and his hero. Who should read this book? Every single person in the country.”
What James Is About View this post on InstagramThe novel explores race, identity, language, and freedom, while challenging readers to reconsider a foundational American story. The book has earned widespread praise from literary heavyweights. Colson Whitehead called it “a brilliant and necessary reimagining,” while George Saundershas praised Everett’s work for its “wit, intelligence, and moral force.” That kind of recognition has helped cement James as one of the most talked-about novels in modern literature.

Who Is Percival Everett?Percival Everett is a Pulitzer Prize–winning author known for writing genre-defying fiction that blends satire, philosophy, and social commentary. His earlier novel, Erasure, was adapted into the Oscar-winning film American Fiction starring Jeffrey Wright and Sterling K. Brown. Like much of his work, James continues Everett’s exploration of who gets to tell stories—and how those stories shape cultural understanding.
Why This Book Matters Right NowThe selection of James as Katie Couric’s April 2026 book club pick feels particularly timely and bold. Conversations about representation and historical narratives are ongoing and widely debated. By shifting the lens of one of the most important works of fiction in American literary history to Jim, Percival Everett invites readers to reconsider whose stories have been told throughout history—and whose have not.
Since leaving her roles on the Today show and CBS News, Couric has steadily built a media empire that spans social media and her Substack newsletter. Since launching her book club earlier this year, she has quickly established herself as a powerhouse in the reading community, rivaling literary tastemakers like Oprah Winfreyand Reese Witherspoon.
By choosing James, rather than a more lightweight seasonal read, Couric doubles down on her mission to get readers to “scroll less, read more,” while spotlighting a book that is both culturally relevant and deeply thought-provoking.
James is exactly the kind of selection that defines the Katie Couric Book Club—and a key reason why Couric is quickly becoming a leading voice for readers and social media audiences alike.

McDonald's Is Quietly Shaking Up Its Menu In a Big Way
McDonald's has always been synonymous with the burger, but a major shift is quietly underway, and your wallet might actually thank them for it.
With beef prices continuing to climb, the fast food giant is leaning harder into chicken, and it's not alone. Burger King and Wendy's have been making similar moves, with industry experts pointing to tightening beef supply as the driving force.
For McDonald's, the chain has been quietly testing a new lineup of McCrispy Strip flavors across select locations, generating serious buzz on social media in the process.
View this post on InstagramPopular food account Snackolator has been among those tracking the tests closely, posting on Friday, April 4 that "McDonald's is still testing new Glazed or Seasoned McCrispy Strips and these NEED to go nationwide! They've got six options that really unlock the potential of the McCrispy Strips."

While a plain version of the strips debuted in 2015, with a brief return in 2025, the new flavors are a welcome addition to the menu. The potential flavors being tested include Sweet Chili, Teriyaki, Kickin' BBQ, Spicy Chili Garlic, Garlic Parm, and Sweet Asian—a mix of sauces and dry rubs that signals McDonald's is thinking well beyond the classic dipping sauce approach. While nothing has been confirmed for a nationwide rollout, the enthusiasm from both fans and food media suggests it's only a matter of time.
“The bbq ones were so good they need to bring those back,” one fan begged.
“The spicy chili garlic ones look amazing!” another wrote.
A third commented, “I would definitely try the garlic parm.”
The chicken push isn't the only thing shaking up McDonald's menu right now. The chain has also teamed up with Netflix for a limited-edition collaboration inspired by the streamer's KPop Demon Hunters series, dropping two adult combo meals—The Saja Boys Breakfast Meal and The HUNTR/X Meal—each with collectibles and South Korean-inspired flavors.
A new Derpy McFlurry rounds out the collab. "Everything we do at McDonald's is for the fans, and no one can relate to that more than Netflix and KPop Demon Hunters," said Alyssa Buetikofer, McDonald's chief marketing and customer experience officer. The limited-time menu items are available now while supplies last.

1984 Hit Ranked Among 'Best Breakup Songs' of All Time Became a Devastating Anthem
Late singer-songwriter Leonard Cohenreleased his beloved hit "Hallelujah" in 1984. Over the last 40 years, the song has proven to be a timeless anthem and has been covered by several popular artists, including k.d. lang,Bob Dylan, and Jeff Buckley.
Cohen's heartbreaking lyrics are likely why so many have been drawn to the song, off the 1984 album Various Positions. In February 2026, Billboardrecognized "Hallelujah" as the 43rd "Best Breakup Song of All Time."
In a 1995 interview with CBC, Cohen, who was 82 when he died in 2016, commented on the song's somewhat depressing lyrics regarding the act of love. The musician shared that he believed love can be quite painful.
"I don't think any one goes into that pit well-armed. I don't think there's anybody that masters love. You know, I think the heart is always cooking like shish kebab ... crackling and bubbling," said the Canadian poet during the 1995 interview.
Leonard Cohen Shared His Thoughts About Other Artists Covering 'Hallelujah'During a 2009 interview with CBC, Cohen shared his thoughts about other musicians covering "Hallelujah."
"I think it's a good song but I mean I think too many people are singing it. I think people got to stop singing it for a little while," quipped Cohen.
He clarified that he's pleased when musicians take the time to cover his works.
"I had a very modest career for most of my life, and I was always happy when someone did one of my songs, so that overrode most of the critical concerns I might have had. In fact, you know, my critical faculties went into suspended animation when someone would do one of my songs. And I, generally, was just delighted," said Cohen during the interview.
Cohen also said that Dylan was the first major artist to take notice of "Hallelujah" with his 1988 cover.
"I think the song came out in '83 or '84 and then the only person who seemed to recognize the song was Dylan," said Cohen to CBC.
He then said that the song got even more popular when Buckley released his version of "Hallelujah" in 1994.
Two 'Brady Bunch' Stars Tried Dating After the Show Ended and It Did Not Go as Planned
After five years of playing brother and sister on one of TV's most beloved sitcoms, two Brady Bunch stars decided to see if there was something more between them.
Eve Plumb, 67, revealed in a Page Six interview shared on Saturday, April 4 that she and her former Brady Bunch costar Christopher Knight, 68, went on an actual date shortly after the beloved ABCsitcom wrapped in 1974. The two had spent five years playing siblings together (Jan and Peter Brady, respectively), which—as it turned out—made romance pretty much impossible.
"It was sweet," Plumb recalled of the outing. "It was fun, but we were really already by that time just too good of friends to make that transition into being romantic partners." In an excerpt from her upcoming memoir, Happiness Included: Jan Brady and Beyond, she described the evening with a laugh: "Any attempts at making out that evening ended with laughter and resignation that we'd always be sister and brother, even in real life."
If anything, the failed date only seemed to strengthen their bond. Decades later, Plumb and Knight remain close friends, keeping up monthly Zoom calls with their spouses—Plumb married business consultant Ken Pace in 1995, while Knight wed businesswoman Cara Kokenes in 1996. "We've stayed friends to this day," Plumb told the outlet, adding that the two are "due for" one of their regular catch-ups.
Plumb's memoir also pulls back the curtain on what the Brady Bunch set was actually like during its five seasons on ABC. The show, which ran from 1969 to 1974, presented one of television's most cheerful visions of family life—but things weren't always as harmonious behind the camera. A long-running feud between series lead Robert Reed and creator Sherwood Schwartz played out quietly in the background, something co-star Barry Williams (Greg Brady) brought to public attention in his own book about the experience.
"We knew there was tension," Plumb told Woman's World earlier this year. "You'd hear the door slam, and then we'd go on and do something else. It's like it is in any family—when there's discord, you figure out a way to get through it."
As for her memoir, don't expect bombshells. "People always want secrets," Plumb said plainly. "And I didn't get a big publisher because I wasn't throwing anybody under the bus."
I’m a Stylist and This Is the One Haircut Men Should ‘Never’ Get After 40
Experimenting with different hairstyles is a rite of passage for both men and women, and it can help you discover which looks flatter you the most. Then again, you might find that it's a bit more challenging to switch up your style as you get older since your hair tends to change over time.
Fret not, there are still ways to keep your hair looking fresh, regardless of your age, but it can take a bit more planning. With this in mind, Parade checked in with a hairstylist to learn more about the one haircut men should never get after 40.
Jennifer Korab is a celebrity hairstylist, colorist, educator and founder of Renaissance Salon & Spa. Throughout her career, she's worked with several celebrities and influencers, including Denise Bidot, Danielle Carolan, Elyse Meyers and more.
While working with clients, Korab has noticed that men over 40 tend to make a few of the same haircut mistakes. She's also developed plenty of tricks for styling men's hair as they get older. Below, she's sharing everything you need to know about finding the right hairstyle to flatter your features and style your ever-evolving hair as you navigate your 40s and well beyond.
Related: What Women Should Never Do To Avoid Thinning Hair
There's no one-size-fits-all haircut for men over 40, but there is one style that's best to avoid, according to Korab: super short, one-length buzz cuts.
This style might work in your 20s and 30s, but it's often much less flattering once you hit your 40s.
"They tend to highlight thinning hair or receding hairlines instead of softening the look," Korab tells Parade.

Why This Haircut Can Be Unflattering on Older MenGetty
Theoretically, a shorter hairstyle sounds flattering, but a buzz cut isn't necessarily the best option for men over 40 since hair can thin with age.
"A very short cut leaves no room for texture or shape, which usually helps the style feel more balanced," Korab says.
Additionally, Korab says cutting your hair too short can "make hair look flat and draw attention to sparse areas."

How Hair Changes With AgeAs you age, your hair, skin and nails change, so it's important to adapt your self-care routine over time.
When it comes to hair, men can encounter several differences as they get older.
"Hair can lose density, shine and even change texture," Korab explains. "Gray hair is often coarser, so styles that worked in your 20s/30s may not sit the same way now."
The Most Common Haircut Mistakes Men Over 40 MakeThroughout her career, Korab has encountered clients of all ages, and she's noticed that men over 40 tend to make a few of the same mistakes. For instance, she says keeping the same haircut for decades is never a good idea.
“As we age, hair texture, density and face shape subtly change. Sticking with the same haircut can look outdated and fail to complement these changes. Updating your style helps refresh the hair and looks more youthful," she says.
Two other common mistakes include ignoring your face shape when choosing a haircut and using heavy products that weigh the hair down, thereby making it appear thinner.

3 Haircuts a Stylist Recommends Instead for Men Over 40Not sure what to ask for when you head to the salon? Korab says the following styles are flattering for men over 40.
1. Textured cropsGetty
“A textured crop is great because it adds movement and dimension, which helps cover thinning areas," she explains.
2. Layered cutsGetty
“Layered cuts help create the illusion of fullness and make hair appear thicker," she says.
3. Classic side partGetty
“A classic side-part helps direct the hair in a way that adds volume,” Korab tells Parade.

2 Grooming Tips To Make Men Look YoungerYour grooming habits can help make you look younger, according to Korab, who recommends the following tips.
1. Regular trimsThe stylist says cutting your hair regularly helps "prevent hair from looking overgrown or uneven," which can "age your overall appearance.”
2. Keeping facial hair cleanKeeping facial hair clean and well-groomed "frames the face better and creates a more put-together look," per Korab.

How To Style Thinning Hair After 40If your hair isn't as thick as it once was, Korab recommends the following styling tips for men over 40.
1. Keep the top longerKorab notes that leaving some length on the top "helps create the appearance of fuller hair" if your mane is thinning.
2. Consider a side partIf you're dealing with thinning hair, Korab says a side part can "help redirect the hair to cover sparse areas."
3. Use lightweight productsKorab says lightweight products "add volume and prevent the hair from being weighed down.”
“A light styling product prevents the hair from sitting flat against the scalp," she says.

1971 Career-Defining Classic Was No. 1 Hit 55 Years Ago Today
In 1971, Sonny James added another milestone to an already remarkable career.
His single, "Empty Arms," climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, continuing a streak of chart-topping success that few artists in country music history have matched. By that point, James had already established himself as one of the genre's most consistent hitmakers, and audiences were ready for yet another evocative track.
Known for his smooth voice and polished delivery, James brought a sense of emotional clarity to "Empty Arms," turning it into a standout song of the era. The track's lyrics center on heartbreak and longing, capturing the quiet pain of lost love with a restrained, heartfelt approach that resonated deeply with listeners.
The success of "Empty Arms" was part of an extraordinary run for James, who scored an unprecedented string of consecutive No. 1 hits throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s. That consistency helped cement his reputation as one of country music's most reliable and influential artists during the period.
Often referred to as "The Southern Gentleman," James became known not only for his music but also for his professionalism and crossover appeal, which brought country music to a broader audience.
"Different type songs are needed along the way for freshness and variety.. but without changing the artist," James told biographer Dave Samuelson. "Loyal fans have certain things they listen for on each record."
One of James' earliest hits, "Young Love," became his signature song after it's 1956 release. "It caught the people in merchandising off guard… being a country artist they looked for me to sell a certain amount of records and each release was based on that," James said. "In other words, they didn't want to overpress before any record was released… the song surprised everybody it hit so fast, and was such a hit."
The song laid the groundwork for the impressive career that would follow; James became one of the most successful male country artists of his era. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007.
More than five decades later, "Empty Arms" remains a defining example of Sonny James' signature sound, a career-defining classic that continues to stand as a testament to his lasting impact on country music.

Chicago West Adorably Roasts Mom Kim Kardashian’s Memorable ‘KUWTK’ Diamond Earring Tantrum
In one of the most iconic scenes from Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim Kardashianthrows…well, a Kardashian-level tantrum after then-beau Kris Humphries tosses her into the ocean. While Kardashian initially giggles and smiles at the prank, things take a major turn when she realizes one of her diamond earrings is missing. Clutching her lobes, the reality TV star screams, “My earrings are gone!” continuing, “I’m going to cry. My diamond earring. Seriously.” And yes, by now we all know that she does, in fact, start to cry. She follows her in-ocean tantrum with a rant on dry land.
Of course, Kardashian has a pretty good reason to cry. After all, as she points out, “Literally, that’s $75,000.” Kim did clarify the scene on the Call Her Daddy podcast, telling host Alex Cooper, “That was like one of my first biggest purchases. So, they weren’t insured yet. That’s why I was so upset, is because that would be money down the drain.” As it turns out, little sis Kylie Jennerdove down into the ocean and found Kim’s missing diamond earring. Not only did she find the earring, but she also found the back too!
So what does this kind of magical moment in reality television history have to do with Kim’s daughter, Chicago West? Khloé Kardashian recently posted a hilariously cute clip of her daughter, True Thompson, and the Kardashian cousins (including Psalm West, Chicago West, and Dream Kardashian) recreating some of the most viral memes on Instagram.
View this post on InstagramAlong with roasting shots of celebs like Anthony Mackie, Zac Efron, and grandmaKris Jenner, the video also gently mocks Kim’s diamond earring in the ocean KUWTK scene. Eight-year-old Chi grabs her ear and makes a pained face as the clip of her famous mommy plays at the bottom of the screen. And fans can’t get enough of the absolutely adorable little girl.
Internet celebrity Austin McBroom commented, “Now I gotta do this with my kids lol,” while actress Viola Davis wrote, “Sooo sweet.” One fan joked, “Not the Kim slander,” and another noted, “Chi was on point.”
The praise for Chicago’s roasting skills didn’t end there. More applause for Chicago’s roasting skills poured in: “Chi doing Kim’s iconic scene is gold,” “That earring meme is diabolical”, and “The way Chi is so good at imitating Kim is hilarious.”
While mocking mom, Kim, was pure precious precociousness at its best, Chi’s cousin also made fans laugh with her loving imitation of “Lovey” on the phone (a.k.a. Grandma Kris Jenner).
Kate Beckinsale Says She Was Fired — Then Calls Out Mark Ruffalo Over What Happened Next
Kate Beckinsale has some things to get off her chest.
The actress took to Instagram on Friday, April 3 to allege that she was dropped by her talent agent after simply liking a social media post about a ceasefire in Gaza. The comments, which have since been deleted, were left under a post by Mark Ruffalo promoting his new film Palestine 36.
"Gosh, it must be so nice not to be fired by your Agent for liking a post about a ceasefire and not supporting the murdering of children," Beckinsale wrote per Entertainment Weekly, before going into significantly more detail about what she claims happened. "I guess having a penis in Hollywood really counts for a lot because you've not been fired by the same Agent that I had and she sent me a gift the week before so we didn't have any beef, but I liked a post about a ceasefire and I've got fired on the same day as Susan Sarandon was fired, two days after the end of the strike after nine months of none of us being able to work at all."
A screen shot of Kate Beckinsale's now deleted comment on Instagram from Friday, April 3.Beckinsale alleged the timing made everything worse. She was dealing with a family crisis at the time—her mother, Judy Loe, had been given six weeks to live with brain cancer, and her stepfather had just suffered a catastrophic stroke. "I was fired in two sentences after 12 years of friendship with my Agent," she wrote, adding that her agent "definitely knew what I was dealing with, alone."
The Underworld actress also revealed she had previously tried to address the situation privately with Ruffalo. "DMd you about this months ago but you ignored me," she told him directly. She later softened her stance somewhat, clarifying she wasn't blaming Ruffalo personally and that she genuinely supports his activism, but pointed to the silence as an example of "male privilege even in the good guys."
The callout comes during what has clearly been an extraordinarily painful stretch for Beckinsale. At the end of 2025, the 52-year-old shared an emotional video addressing the grief she has carried following the deaths of her mother in July 2025, her stepfather in January 2024, and her father Richard Beckinsale—who died when she was just five years old. In the video, she also pushed back against body shamers who had been commenting on her weight loss, explaining the physical toll of prolonged grief in a way that resonated deeply with fans. Fans flooded the now deleted post with comments of support.

The couple launched the fundraiser on behalf of themselves and their children on Saturday, Apr. 4. "Thank you all so much for your care, concern, and prayers during this difficult time," Paul concluded. "We have set up this GoFundMe to help cover the unknown expenses of legal fees and housing. Anything you can do is a help—even if it’s just prayer. Your support means the world to us as we work to rebuild and find safety."
Paul did not share why the family needs legal representation.

'The Pitt' Star Teases Potential Night Shift Spin Off
The Pitt star Shawn Hatosy knows fans want to see more of the night shift characters.
The actor who portrays Dr. Jack Abbot on the hit HBO medical drama spoke with People on Friday, April 3 on a potential night shift spin off.
"There's been a lot of talk about the night shift. That would be really cool. We could do some cool, interesting things with the tone of the show," he told the outlet.
Hatosy added that he thinks his character chose the night shift because, "it's a certain kind of group of misfits that work together at night." However, he acknowledges that "everything is great" with how The Pitt is now.
Hatosy also revealed to People that there were conservations about Dr. Abbott potentially being full-time in season 2. However, in the new season, Abbott is moonlighting with a SWAT team.
"Then they came back to me to suggest that he’s in the E.R. in the middle of the season and I was like, what does that mean? Why am I coming in the middle? Am I dying? Am I coming in on a gurney?" he said.
While Dr. Abbott may not be working full-time in the emergency room, Hatosy continued to be heavily involved in season 2. The actor directed the first episode of the new season at the request of executive producer John Wells.
"I was like, I don’t know if I can do Abbot and be a director at the same time. And then I went home that night and thought, 'Did I just talk myself out of a job?' So I made sure to call him and say, 'I didn’t mean that I don’t want to direct period.' And then I think in season 2 somebody ended up not being able to do it, and I was able to step in," he shared.
In 2025, Hatosy won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his performance as Dr. Abbot.
1976 Rock Classic Ranked 'Best Road-Trip Song' of All Time
Most music lovers will agree that a road trip needs a solid playlist. In 2025, Rolling Stone magazinemade coming up with said playlist a whole lot easier by compiling a list of the "50 best road-trip songs" ever released.
The list included hits like The Doors' 1970 song, "Roadhouse Blues," the 1977 classic "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer, "Gin and Juice" by Snoop Dogg from 1993, AC/DC's 1979 "Highway to Hell," Tracy Chapman's 1988 song "Fast Car," The Beach Boys' "Fun Fun Fun" from 1964, and Bruce Springsteen's "Drive All Night" from 1980. The top five ranking featured Lit's 1999 hit "My Own Worst Enemy," the 2011 song "Rolling in the Deep" byAdele, Golden Earring's 1973 song "Radar Love," and "Crosstown Traffic" from 1968 by The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
"Roadrunner" by The Modern Lovers, released in 1976, took home the title as the best road-trip song. Rolling Stone reported that the classic, written by the band's singer Jonathan Richman, is the quintessential song to play while on the road because of its appreciative, highway-themed lyrics.
Jonathan Richman Briefly Discussed 'Roadrunner' in a 2021 InterviewRichman, now 74, briefly discussed "Roadrunner" during a 2021 interview with TheSpinoff. The publication reported that the song was featured on the 2003 comedy, School of Rock soundtrack. In the interview, Richman was implored to share whether he believed the film's director Richard Linklater was correct when he declared that "Roadrunner" was "the first punk song."
"No. When we were playing we were just a rock band, and thought of ourselves as only that," replied the Massachusetts native.
In the Spinoff interview, Richman also shared some words of wisdom to those who are trying to make it in the music industry.
"I think the same principle applies now as applied then: Sing what you feel, and don’t sing what you don’t feel," said "That Summer Feeling" singer.
Beloved Beauty Brand Closing Most of Its Stores — What Shoppers Need to Know
If you've ever picked up a Boy Brow or a Cloud Paint at one of Glossier's sleek pink storefronts, you might want to check whether your local one is still going to be around.
The brand that turned dewy skin and minimalist packaging into a cultural moment has announced it will be shutting down nine of its twelve retail locations over the next two and a half years. When the dust settles, only three stores will remain—one in New York City, one in Los Angeles, and one in London. Everyone else is getting the axe, including shoppers in Atlanta, Boston, Brooklyn, Chicago, Dallas, Washington D.C., Las Vegas, Philadelphia, and Seattle.
At the center of the shakeup is new CEO Colin Walsh, who came on board in October 2025 and has wasted no time. He's already cut roughly a third of the company's staff and pulled the plug on products that were previously in the pipeline, according to Business of Fashion. The stores that are staying open are being transformed into experience-driven spaces built around events and community rather than straightforward selling. It turns out those three locations are pulling serious weight, generating 55 percent of total store revenue and bringing in 60 percent of new customers.

For loyal fans worried about access, the brand's products aren't going anywhere. Sephora, Space NK, Mecca, and Amazon all carry Glossier, and that's increasingly where the brand is planting its flag. The retreat from physical retail comes after a rough few years for the company. Business of Fashion says that Glossier hit a valuation of nearly $2 billion in 2021 before watching that number slide below $1 billion. Attempts to raise fresh capital and reported acquisition talks with LVMH in 2024 both came up empty.
Nancy Guthrie Update: TSA Found Undeclared Loaded Gun in Chris Nanos' Luggage
Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing after she was abducted from her Tucson, Ariz., home—and a new report revealed that TSA found an undeclared loaded gun in Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos' luggage in 2024.
On Saturday, April 4, Fox News Digital detailed the incident and spoke with a Tucson community member, a woman named Cory Stephens, about the alleged major airport faux pas.
The incident happened on Nov. 6, 2024, when a TSA X-ray technician spotted a gun in Nano's bag and alerted an officer, according to an incident report obtained by Fox News Digital.
An incident report obtained by Fox News Digital from Nov. 6, 2024, shows a TSA X-ray technician saw the weapon in the sheriff's bag at Tucson International Airport and flagged an officer. In a private screening room, an officer asked where, in the bag, the gun was located. Nanos responded that it was in a zippered pocket, and the officer removed the weapon, finding five rounds in the magazine and another round in the chamber.

The incident did not result in any charges. Although Nanos missed his original flight, he was able to book another that same day after storing the gun in his vehicle.
“If a private citizen had encountered that at the airport, the consequences would have been greater,” Stephens told Fox News Digital. "We as citizens want answers. The safety of our community is at stake."
The report of Nanos' TSA incident came on the heels of the results of a workplace harassment investigation involving Nanos. It also comes amid ongoing criticism over how Nancy's case has been handled—including that the crime scene was "corrupted."
Nancy, 84, was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence on the evening of Jan. 31 and remains missing, as of writing. No suspect has been named in the case.

On This Day in 1971, a Record-Breaking Broadway Musical Changed Theater Forever
On April 4, 1975, Stephen Sondheim’s Follies opened at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City. Though it’s been decades since the show’s original run, Follies is regarded as one of the most beloved musicals of all time.
Originally starring Alexis Smith as Carlotta Campion, Dorothy Collins as Sally Durant Plummer, Yvonne De Carlo as Phyllis Rogers Stone, and John McMartin as Benjamin Stone, Follies, directed by Harold Prince and Michael Bennett, snagged seven Tony Awards at the 1972 ceremony. Moreover, the original production ran for more than 500 shows.
Despite its staggering critical success, Follies was actually a financial disaster due to high running costs. According to multiple reports, Follies lost $792,000 all in. It was the most expensive Broadway musical in history — at the time.
The story, with music and lyrics written by Sondheim, follows a group of former showgirls who reunite at a rundown Broadway theater that is about to be demolished. Among them are two couples, Sally and Buddy Plummer and Phyllis and Ben Stone, who confront unresolved tensions and regrets from their younger years.
As they tour the theater one last time, the past comes to life alongside the present through younger versions of themselves and elaborate musical sequences. The reunion forces both couples to face the choices they made, the paths not taken, and the reality of their current marriages.
In 2001, the Broadway revival of Follies starred Blythe Danner as Phyllis Rogers Stone, Judith Ivey as Sally Durant Plummer, Treat Williams as Buddy Plummer, and Gregory Harrison as Benjamin Stone.
Fast forward a decade to 2011, and Follies was revived on Broadway, starring Bernadette Peters as Sally Durant Plummer, Jan Maxwell as Phyllis Rogers Stone, Danny Burstein as Buddy Plummer, Ron Raines as Benjamin Stone, and Elaine Paige as Carlotta Campion.
Bernadette Peters (4th R, rear) and Stephen Sondheim (5th R, rear) join the cast of Follies at a promotional event for the show’s new cast recording at Barnes & Noble, 86th & Lexington, on December 1, 2011, in New York City. (Photo by D Dipasupil/WireImage)Sondheim, who died on November 26, 2021, at 91 years old, was also responsible for shows like West Side Story, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Company, Into the Woods, and A Little Night Music.

These 4 Birth Dates Become More Resilient Later in Life
According to Mayo Clinic, resilience is defined as the ability to adapt to life's misfortunes and setbacks. Our youth is often filled with lessons that later in life transform into greater strength and wisdom. According to expert numerologists and astrologers, four specific birth dates are particularly associated with individuals who are likely to become more resilient as they age. During their childhood and young adulthood, these individuals may struggle to develop coping strategies, manage stress, and understand how to harness their inner empowerment. However, with each passing year, they tend to discover greater strength.

Which Birth Dates Grow Resilience Later in Life?Check for your birth date. Disregard birth months.
Born on the 5thPeople born on the 5th of any month are known for their flexibility and dynamism. Influenced by Mercury, the planet associated with mental agility, they possess an innate curiosity. In their younger years, they often take pride in their open-mindedness. However, as they grow older, they become more aware of the times they have felt the need to suppress their voices or ignore their own needs to please others or avoid misunderstandings.
In later years, while they still embrace their spirited nature, they prioritize their own thoughts, beliefs, and opinions, making these aspects fundamental to their identity rather than an afterthought meant to appease others. Their wiser, older self realizes that their true strength has always been within, just waiting for their permission to focus on what truly matters to them.

Born on the 11thIn numerology, the number 11 is considered a master number associated with intuition, spirituality, and divine healing. Additionally, the Moon, which represents emotional intuition, influences those born on the 11th. As a result, individuals born on this date tend to be naturally nurturing—they care for others instinctively.
Throughout much of their early lives, they often foster community, bring families together, and provide healing to their loved ones. However, they can become overwhelmed by emotional mood swings when those they care about are unhappy, taking on excessive responsibility, and ultimately draining their own energy. As they mature, these individuals develop the strength and awareness to give only when they have the capacity, rather than from an empty reservoir.
RELATE?: 4 Most Dangerous Zodiac Signs When Angry
Born on the 16thDreamers bring healing to our lives. People born on the 16th are influenced by Neptune, the planet associated with dreams and creative imagination. These individuals often feel as if they are drifting through life, caught in the changing currents of circumstances.
However, as they grow older, they learn to manage their deep emotions rather than letting them dominate them. This resilience enables them to turn confusion into clarity. With increased inner strength, they start to transform their higher ideals into reality, disregarding the skeptics who urge them to be "more realistic."
COSMIC CALLING: This is Your Lucky Angel Number, Based on Your Birth Date
Born on the 24thWhen you hang around someone born on the 24th, you sense their unconditional positive regard, even after just one encounter. These individuals are highly diplomatic and deeply focused on relationships. In their early years, they may struggle to develop a strong sense of identity beyond their roles or others' perceptions of them.
However, as time passes, they gain a broader perspective. Later in life, they become more aware of their own wants, desires, and aspirations. Although they always maintain a family-oriented, caring nature, they realize that the best way to support the people who matter most is to ensure their own self-fulfillment rather than seek validation from external sources.

These Are the Most Common COVID-19 Cicada Variant Symptoms Doctors Are Seeing Now
In case seasonal pollen allergies and everything else going on in the world weren't enough to bug you, now there's a new COVID-19 variant: Cicada.
No, it doesn't involve huge, loud insects making a racket every few years in the summer, but it can impede on your warm-weather plans if you get infected.
"The term 'cicada variant' is used informally to refer to an Omicron subvariant, sometimes associated with BA.3.2, though it is not an official CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] or WHO [World Health Organization] designation," Dr. Eve Elizabeth Pennie, MD, a physician and epidemiologist at Drugwatch, tells Parade. "Current data suggest it behaves similarly to other recent Omicron strains, with mutations that may enable some immune escape."
Further complicating and worsening the realities of COVID-19 risk—which very much still exists, especially for older patients or those with pre-existing conditions or compromised immune systems—is that we don't have a great system for tracking it right now.
"One of the under-appreciated realities of where we are with COVID-19 right now is that the United States has no national system tracking symptoms in real time," Dr. Tyler Evans, MD, infectious disease specialist and founder and CEO of Wellness Equity Alliance, warns. "We are, in many ways, flying without instruments. Clinicians on the ground are not reporting new clinical patterns yet, but that silence is not the same as a signal of safety."
That said, there are ways to stay safe. Find out what the most common COVID-19 symptoms are in April 2026, what makes the COVID-19 cicada variant unique and how to protect yourself and your loved ones.
What Are the Most Common COVID-19 Symptoms in April 2026?If you do get the bug, what can you expect? "Symptoms remain similar to other recent strains and include sore throat, cough, fatigue, fever, congestion and headache," Dr. Pennie says. "There are no clearly unique symptoms associated with this variant."
Dr. Nneoma Oparaji, MD, DipABLM, DABOM concurs. "So far, the most common symptoms of the cicada variant appear to be like recent Omicron-family COVID variants," Dr. Oparaji explains. "These include sore throat, cough, low energy, headache, fever, chills, runny nose and body aches."
That said, it's still not a walk in the park for anyone infected, especially if you get hit with a severe case, which can happen even to healthy people not considered high-risk.
"Most cases remain mild," Dr. Pennie says, "but worsening symptoms such as difficulty breathing or chest pain require prompt medical evaluation."
Also, remember that all cases of COVID, even mild ones, put you at risk of long COVID, the effects of which we're still learning about, but that we know definitely aren't fun.

How Is the COVID-19 Cicada Variant Different From Prior Strains of Coronavirus?According to Dr. Pennie and Dr. Oparaji, what makes the COVID-19 cicada variant different from others isn't necessarily anything you'd feel if you were infected, but you may be more likely to get infected with it.
She explains, "The biggest difference is that it is more mutated compared to other strains of the virus, which raises concern about spreading and being able to dodge the immunity people already have."
Dr. Oparaji adds, "Compared with earlier variants, the main difference is a greater ability to infect individuals with prior immunity. However, it has not been shown to cause more severe disease or significantly different clinical outcomes."

Do COVID-19 Vaccines and Boosters Protect Against the Cicada Variant?COVID-19 vaccines and COVID boosters for the 2025-2026 "season" (more on that in a minute) will, indeed, protect you, and getting the jab is the best way to prevent severe infection.
"The variants driving circulation right now, XFG and NB.1.8.1, are covered by the existing JN.1 lineage vaccines. That is meaningful, practical information for anyone wondering whether their last shot still matters," Dr. Evans says. "It does. Both XFG and NB.1.8.1 fall within the JN.1 lineage, meaning current vaccine formulations were designed with these variants in mind."
The same applies to the cicada variant. Dr. Evans explains, "For the roughly 90 million Americans living in the 25 states where BA.3.2 has been detected, my guidance is straightforward: the current vaccines still offer meaningful protection against severe illness. Getting up to date is not a precaution against a theoretical future threat. It is the most evidence-based tool available right now."
That said, Dr. Pennie notes, "The most recent COVID vaccines are expected to protect against the cicada variant, especially against severe illnesses. However, it may be less effective in fully blocking against infection because the Cicada variant appears to avoid antibodies compared to recent COVID strains."
Other protective measures include all the ones you likely know already: Masking in crowded areas, testing if you have symptoms, self-isolating if you test positive, avoiding people who are infected until they fully recover, washing your hands thoroughly and frequently and maintaining an otherwise healthy lifestyle (as in eating anutrient-rich diet, exercising, getting adequate sleep and managing stress).

Will There Be a Lower Risk of COVID-19 in Spring and Summer? While warmer temperatures mean open windows and potentially better ventilation for some, that won't necessarily keep you from getting hit with the cicada variant or any other COVID strain in the spring and summer.
"People often ask me whether COVID-19 follows the calendar. The honest answer is: not reliably," Dr. Evans says. "Microbes rather do. We have seen surges in summer, in fall, in winter. What we can say is that a significant summer wave can sometimes exhaust the virus's immediate momentum and produce a quieter winter, but that calculus changes entirely if a new variant enters the picture."
"COVID-19's pattern is not exactly seasonal in the way influenza is," he adds. "Forecasting based on seasonal data alone is unreliable and has repeatedly led to premature declarations that a wave has passed."

What’s the Quickest Way To Get Rid of COVID Symptoms?Uh oh, you tested positive and feel awful. What can you do next?
"The best way to ease cicada variant symptoms is to treat it like other COVID strains and not like a ‘new’ illness," Dr. Oparaji recommends. Her tips for relief:
- "You can use over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol or ibuprofen for fever, body aches, headache; saline nasal sprays and rinses for congestion, honey for cough and sore throat and lozenges for throat pain if these medications are safe for you."
- "Rest by prioritizing sleep because it helps with recovery rather than trying to power through it."
- "Stay hydrated by drinking lots of fluids such as water, electrolyte drinks, warm tea, broth and soups, especially if there is fever, vomiting or diarrhea. This is an underrated tool for recovery from COVID."
- "Ask about anti-viral medication if you are high risk, such as older, immunocompromised or pregnant patients, as well as patients who have obesity, diabetes or heart, lung or kidney disease. It is better to start taking these medications within five days of first having COVID symptoms."
