'Love Island USA' Producer Reveals How Far Their Matchmaking Can Go
There is a delicate balance in making a dating competition show. You need to make sure there will be interest between the men and the women, naturally. But interference can only go so far when there is $100,000 on the line.
Love Island USA is back for season 8. Executive producer Bernie Schaeffer talked about the show's process ahead of the premiere.
'Love Island USA' Producers Have a Test Run Before the PremiereSeason 8 starts with 12 singles, hopefully, coupling up or showing interest in a bombshell. Their introductions show them talking about what they're attracted to, but there is still a lot of risk.
"We have an idea, but these are real human beings who want to find love," Schaeffer told The Hollywood Reporter. "We don’t know how their connections are going to be."

The show does a test run weeks before the premiere, using a mock cast, as in the U.K. version's process. "It’s like a sports team where we’re about to go and perform, but let’s have a practice first," he explained. "It gets us to get really locked into the season in terms of the technical aspect of the show, which is huge — a lot of moving parts, but also it allows us to test a bit of the creative."
Of course, finding a match isn't the only important aspect of the game. Fans vote for their favorite couples to keep them safe from being dumped on the island. Other times, it's the other islanders who decide who to dump from the show. Hopefully, the cast can form strong connections to keep them safe.
Love Island USA Season 8 streams on Peacock starting June 2 at 9 p.m. ET.

1975 Soft Rock Greatest Hits Album Is Suddenly Making a Chart Comeback 51 Years Later
History appears to be repeating itself for America. The legendary 1970s soft rock trio is back on the music charts for their album History: America’s Greatest Hits— 51 years after it was originally released.
Recorded by America bandmates Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek and Gerry Beckley, History resurfaced at No. 191 on the Billboard 200 album chart for the week ending June 8, 2026, marking its 66th week total on the chart since 1975. The album peaked at No. 3 on Billboard in December 1975 and has since been certified platinum by the RIAA.
The album includes the classic group’s 11 biggest songs up until 1975, including “I Need You,” “Ventura Highway,” "Lonely People," and the No. 1 hits “Sister Golden Hair” and “A Horse With No Name,” as well as a new version of the song “Sandman.”
Known for their harmonic vocals and prolific songwriting, America was all over soft rock and pop radio in the 1970s. After releasing five fast studio albums between 1972 and 1975, they had enough material for their Greatest Hits album early on.
The group never officially disbanded, although Peek left in 1977. More than 50 years later, Bunnell remains the only original member of America’s touring lineup, currently on the road for the Happy Trails Tour.
In May 2026, Bunnell told Rolling Stone he never dreamed that the group’s first single, “A Horse With No Name," would become such a massive hit.
“Obviously, the strength of the song was much stronger than I ever expected," he shared. "I thought of it more as a novelty story song that wasn’t full of nice bridges and fancy chord changes. So it was doubly surprising that it did so well. In England especially, a brand-new band, and with the plethora of bands that were coming up then and the great releases going out at the same time….I’m sure Warner Brothers Records were equally surprised.”

Fans can look for another Greatest Hits album in July 2026, with the release of Halcyon Days, which will be released on vinyl, CD, and streaming platforms. The new album is described as “a collection of America’s greatest hits re-recorded in 2011 - including 'A Horse With No Name,' 'Ventura Highway,' 'Sister Golden Hair' and more.”The record will also feature the bonus track, “World Of Light.”

'70s Rock Band Says It Won't Play Forever: 'Don't Wanna Die on Stage'
When Megadeth announced earlier this year that they were retiring after more than four decades together, the news hit thrash metal fans hard. With Exodus having been at it since 1979, many are now asking whether the California band will be the next to go.
The question was recently put to Gary Holt in an interview with Fistful of Metal. And while Exodus aren't nearing the finish line just yet, Holt admitted he's given the band's eventual end some thought.
“Well, I don’t wanna die on stage,” Holt said, according to Pennlive. “I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about my own mortality, but I need at least another 25 years with my children and grandchildren.”
“I’m doing everything I can to get to this point, as I’ve been sober for the last five years, and if Exodus gets to that point where we know it’s time, then we may take the route that our friends have and are taking, or perhaps we’ll just end it. Who knows?”
Holt, who also spent time playing with Slayer, has been with Exodus since 1981. He is the only member to appear on all 12 of the band's studio albums, including their latest record Goliath, which came out in March.
“This is a huge part of our lives,” he continued. “When my day comes and I can’t do this anymore, I have a lot of great memories.”
“I’m sure we’ll celebrate the right way, whenever that day comes, unless it’s something drastic like losing both of my arms in a [expletive] up agricultural accident. But for now, Exodus is stronger than ever before, and this album [‘Goliath’] is proof that we have a lot more gas in the tank.”
The band has been proving that point on the road lately. Exodus just finished touring alongside Sepultura, who will play their final show ever in November. Rather than take a break, the band headed straight back to their hometown.
With just a few days notice, Exodus announced a pop-up show at the newly reopened Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco for May 30. The iconic venue had been closed for nearly 40 years and tickets were gone within three hours.
"When one of the clubs you started this out at reopens, you play there,” Holt said. "You return to the scene of past crimes. You once again darken their doorstep and crush everything and everyone to the ground. The Mabuhay Gardens. The Fab Mab. OUR Mab. Open once again and Exodus knew we must heed the call! One night only. We will once again call this hallowed venue home. As old school as it will ever get. See you there!"
Although Exodus had not played Mabuhay Gardens since 1986, the venue has always meant something special to the band.
In February 1983, during one of Kirk Hammett's final shows with Exodus before leaving to join Metallica, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Dave Mustaine reportedly jumped onstage for an impromptu appearance that has become a moment thrash metal fans in the Bay Area have never forgotten.

Who Is Mel B's Husband Rory McPhee? Inside the Spice Girl's Sweet Love Story
Mel B'shusbandRory McPheeis a lucky guy. The America's Got Talent judge didn't think she'd ever get married again following her acrimonious split from her ex-husbandStephen Belafonte (no relation to the late, great Harry Belafonte, thank you very much).
"I was like, ‘I'm never going to get married again. Never, never, never. I'm never having a relationship. I'm fine by myself. I want to raise my kids, put my head down and work, and that's it,’" she told PEOPLE. "And then … never can say never, can you?"
She added that McPhee started as a platonic friend that she knew for decades, and that she trusted him enough to show him the very first drafts of her memoir, Brutally Honest, in which she discussed the abuse she alleged that she suffered during her marriage to Belafonte.
"It’d been a long time that anybody was that kind to me. I wasn’t looking for intimacy or anything like that because I was still suffering a lot from PTSD," she admitted. "And he was just patient. He read the first draft of my book. He just couldn’t believe that a person that says they loved you would treat you like that."
Despite everything she endured before she and McPhee became romantic, she never stopped believing in love.
"I feel like I've really missed out," she said. "And now I've got this opportunity to be properly in love with a really good guy who I know loves me for me, who's known me before I was a Spice Girl, why wouldn't I do that?"

Simon Cowell Reveals the Real Reason He Keeps Doing 'America's Got Talent' (Exclusive)
The 21st season of America’s Got Talent returns tonight with an all-new lineup of acts — singers, acrobats, comedians, and more — competing for the ultimate $1 million prize. Terry Crews is back as host with a judging panel that includes executive producer/judge Simon Cowell, and judges Mel B, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara.
For 2026, AGTkicks off with more Golden Buzzers in one night than ever before, including a singer, a rapper, and a dance crew with a surprise twist. It also features a phone call from last season’s third-place finalist Jourdan Blue, who has sent a friend, Luke Taleno, to audition. As Jourdan says, America’s Got Talent changed his life. The former New Orleans street performer is now making his living full-time as a musician.
“I genuinely believe that these shows have to have a purpose. And to that point, whether you win or lose, I think particularly today, you've got to be able to get attention with so many millions of people uploading content at the moment,” Simon told Parade in an exclusive interview. “I think what this does is it puts you on the ladder, so to speak. So, if you do a great audition or a great live show performance — and I've seen that happen so many times now — there are massive knock-on effects in terms of their careers, their lives, their confidence. That's one of the best parts of doing the job."
And Simon would know. From his early days judging American Idol with the success of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood to producing America’s Got Talent and the success of Season 2 winner ventriloquist and singer Terry Fator and magicians Mat Franco and Shim Lim, all of whom ended up with Las Vegas residencies, he’s seen how he’s helped transform lives -- and not just for the winners.
“When I look back on the origins of all these shows, I've seen so many people and to be able to see what it's done for their careers, their lives, it's amazing,” he added. “If that didn't happen, I promise you, I wouldn't do the shows.”
And the nice part is that former contestants stay in touch and keep Simon and the show’s producers up-to-date with the good things happening for them.
“I don't get daily phone calls, but we do bump into each other. Sometimes I hear from them, sometimes they send me notes. So I do see a lot of people, and sometimes they come back, and they perform on the show. I'm traveling all over the world, so I do see quite a lot, not everyone,” Simon said.
America’s Got Talent 2026 premieres Tuesday, June 2 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Streams next day on Peacock.

‘Love Island USA’ Reportedly Adds Strict New Social Media Rule for Season 8
Love Island USA Season 8 may be entering the villa with a major social media change.
Ahead of the new season's premiere on Peacock, a family member of one incoming Islander claimed that contestants are not allowed to have friends or relatives post on their social media accounts while they are filming.
According to The U.S. Sun, Brice Marie, the sister of Season 8 contestant Sean Reifel, shared the alleged rule in the comments of a TikTok after a fan asked whether she would be managing her brother's Instagram account during his time on the show.
"They are not allowed to post on socials while they are filming! We are not allowed to post for them either," she wrote, according to the outlet.
@briceymarieVote for Sean!! Proud sister🫶🏼 #LoveIsland #loveislandusa #seanloveisland #loveislandusaseason8 #loveislandsean
♬ original sound - Brice MarieThe reported rule would mark a noticeable shift for the U.S. version of the reality dating series. Islanders have always been cut off from the outside world while filming, but in past seasons, contestants' friends or family members have sometimes posted on their behalf, encouraged fan support, or responded to online backlash while the Islanders were still in the villa.

Why the Reported Rule Could MatterThe reported change comes as Love Island USA continues to deal with the intense online attention its cast members receive.
The U.S. Sun reported that the move is part of an effort to limit outside scrutiny and protect contestants from online reaction during filming. The outlet also reported that some Season 8 cast members had already limited or turned off Instagram comments after the cast was announced.
The official Love Island USA Instagram account also issued a warning to fans before the Season 8 cast reveal, asking viewers to "keep it kind, keep it positive," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
That message came after previous seasons sparked widespread social media commentary, criticism, and fan pile-ons around Islanders' behavior, relationships, and post-show lives. Because Love Island USA films close to real time, online reaction can build quickly while contestants are still isolated from the public.
Season 8 Has Already Faced Scrutiny Ariana Madix, host of Love Island USA Season 8Peacock Press
Season 8 of Love Island USA premiered Tuesday, June 2, on Peacock, with Ariana Madix returning as host.
The season was already facing attention before the premiere. People reported that contestant Vasana Montgomery was removed from the cast before the season began after controversy over past social media posts. The new cast also includes Reifel, who has drawn criticism online after joining the show as the father of a young son.
Brice Marie previously defended her brother on TikTok, according to The U.S. Sun, calling him a "really good dad" and suggesting he would likely talk about his son early in the season.
The Season 8 cast also includes a mix of contestants with attention-grabbing backstories, including Paralympic medalist Beatriz Hatz and Aniya Harvey, the daughter of former NBA player Donnell Harvey.

Zendaya's Mom Posts Cryptic Message Responding to Controversial 'Euphoria' Finale
SPOILER—This post includes spoilers fromEuphoria Season 3, Episode 8.
HBO Max's fan-favorite series Euphoria has officially concluded with season 3, but not everyone in the fanbase is happy with how the show came to an end. In fact, the conclusion for Zendaya's character, Rue Bennett, has particularly caused backlash, and now, Zendaya's mother, Claire Stoermer, has weighed in.
Season 3, Episode 8, of Euphoria, titled "In God We Trust," had to wrap up numerous characters' stories, but one of the most shocking and controversial endings was undoubtedly Rue's death. Specifically, after years battling substance use disorder, Rue relapsed and ultimately died because the pills she had taken were laced with fentanyl.
Particularly given all that Rue had gone through and the recovery journey she had been on, many fans were devastated by this ending, and it seems Zendaya's mom agrees.
Per People Magazine, Stoermer posted an Instagram story about the show's ending, saying, "Lots of messages in my DM's from people about last night's episode. I'm gonna keep my thoughts to myself. Definitely made me sad....and other emotions as well. But just gonna leave it right there......"
Outside of confirming that the episode made her sad, Stoermer kept her cards pretty close to the vest. However, her comments have led to speculation that she may share some fans' opinions that Rue's ending was disappointing.
In fact, on Bustle'sInstagram post regarding the same message from Stoermer, several commenters have voiced agreement with what they believe Stoermer is saying.
One comment reads, "I’d be pissed too if my child worked somewhere for 7 yrs , got them multiple awards just for them to lace her on the couch 😒." Another says, "Cause Rue did not deserve the ending she was givennnnn! But who knows it might have been creative differences. But also why message her mom 💀."

When we think about threats to our retirement money, the rising cost of living, ongoing global conflicts that are driving energy prices higher, and volatility in the stock market are likely among the first things we worry about.
But according to new research from LIMRA, there may be something else to fear: Cognitive decline. According to an April 2026 report, cognitive decline is becoming a greater risk for adults aged 65 and older. And those risks come at a high price. LIMRA says that this decline can cost "the average household wealth losses of roughly $124,000" through things like missed payments, poor financial decisions, and even fraud. Fortunately, these experts say that early awareness of this issue could be the key to avoiding it. Here's what they say you need to know about aging and money management.
Related: Retirement Shock Is Real—Psychologists Say Most People Never See It Coming
When Does Cognitive Decline Typically BeginDr. Jessica Meers, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Founder of Rhythm Wellness, a Houston-based psychotherapy practice, says that many people are surprised to learn that subtle cognitive changes can begin as early as our mid-to-late 40s. "In most cases, these shifts aren't noticeable in everyday life until much later, often in the 60s or beyond," she continues, noting that things like chronic stress and poor sleep can accelerate this process.
"During deep sleep, the brain performs essential maintenance tasks, such as clearing waste products, consolidating memories, and regulating emotional functioning," Dr. Meers says. "Over time, consistently inadequate sleep doesn't just leave you feeling fatigued; it can gradually affect the cognitive abilities you'll rely on as you age."
What are Some Early Warning Signs of Financial Cognitive DeclineWhen people think about cognitive decline, Dr. Meers says they often picture obvious signs, such as forgetting names and becoming disoriented. "In reality, some of the earliest warning signs can show up in financial decision-making," she continues, saying that she tells people to watch out for:
- Difficulty comparing options
- Increased impulsive spending
- Trouble following complex financial information
- Becoming more susceptible to high-pressure sales tactics
That last point is an important one, according to Dr. Meers, because she says financial scammers are particularly skilled at exploiting these subtle vulnerabilities.

How Can You Protect Your Finances from Cognitive DeclineOne of the most effective safeguards you can create to keep your money protected involves establishing protective systems before they are needed. "Automated savings, predetermined spending guidelines, and involving a trusted family member, financial advisor, or attorney can provide valuable protection later on," Dr. Meers says.
But Srbuhi Avetisyan, Research and Analytics Lead at Owner. One, says that you need to decide who you are going to trust while your thinking is still clear, since sometimes those who are closest to us may not automatically be the best fit for this job.
"Our research across 13,500 wealthy families in 18 countries suggests this approach has a fundamental flaw: The people you trust most with your finances are statistically the most likely to act in their own interests when you become vulnerable," she says, adding that the most effective safeguard "is a documented, automated, tamper-proof system that transfers the right financial information to the right family members at the right moment without any human intermediary who can be pressured, corrupted, or simply negligent."
And if you're worried about cognitive changes, Dr. Meers says you shouldn't wait for certainty before seeking help. "In my experience, early awareness and intervention can have a profound impact on long-term outcomes."

New Research Says Early Retirement Could Actually Shrink Your Brain
Retiring early may seem like a dream for those who have grown weary of the workforce. However, a 2026 report from the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) says that there may be a hidden risk associated with clocking out early.
And while your first thoughts may turn to losing access to healthcare, or else not having built up enough of a nest egg for early retirement, experts warn that it may actually be your brain that faces the biggest challenges when you retire before the age of 65. Keep reading to find out why this happens and what psychologists say you need to know.
A New Report Says There May Be a Connection Between Early Retirement and Cognitive DeclineAn April 2026 report from the NBER (which was revised in May 2026) says that there is evidence that suggests that people who retire prior to the age of 65 could experience an increased rate of cognitive decline.
According to the findings, it looks like men between the ages of 51 and 64 are most at risk, due to the fact that this age group is most likely to be forced into early retirement due to layoffs or economic shifts.
Related: Retirement Shock Is Real—Psychologists Say Most People Never See It Coming
Why Does This Cognitive Decline HappenAccording to Dr. Christina Zech, PhD, MBA, and Happiness Coach focused on measurable quality of life and evidence-based wellbeing, early retirement in and of itself isn't an automatic pathway to cognitive decline, but instead what early retirees are replacing their 9-5 jobs with.
"Leaving work can remove daily mental stimulation, structure, challenges, and social interaction," she says. "However, retirement itself is not the problem. Two people can retire at exactly the same age and have completely different outcomes." While she says one may decline mentally, another person could remain cognitively sharp for decades. "The difference is often what they do with the years that follow."
Related: The Reason Men 'Fall Silent' in Retirement Is Actually Heartbreaking
How Can You Prevent Cognitive DeclineBecause the decline seems to happen due to a loss of stimulation, Dr. Max Doshay, PsyD, a Clinical Psychologist and Co-Founder & CEO of KMN Psych, says the best way to stave off cognitive issues starts with keeping your mind active.
"Engaging in learning a new skill, volunteering for causes that are important to you, developing or maintaining strong relationships with family members and friends, participating in regular exercise, and pursuing mentally stimulating hobbies all contribute to your ability to remain engaged," Dr. Doshay says. "I would advise retirees to establish a consistent daily schedule to help them feel a sense of accomplishment each day as well as allow them time for their own personal interests and hobbies."
Dr. Zech adds that research also suggests that simply traveling or occasionally looking after grandchildren may not automatically provide enough sustained challenge or purpose, so it's important to expand your activities to something beyond that.
When Should You Retire to Avoid Cognitive DeclineGiven the link between early retirement and cognitive decline, it seems only natural to ask at what age is the best time to retire if you want to avoid this situation. According to Dr. Doshay, there isn't a magic number that prevents the onset of cognitive decline. "More important is what one does with one's time once they are retired," he reiterates.
That being said, both experts agree that staying engaged in the world around you is the key to staying healthy, physically and mentally, in retirement. "The goal should not simply be retiring later," Dr. Zech says. "The goal should be building a life worth waking up for after retirement."

Val Kilmer's 'Conspiracy' Director Calls Late Actor 'Worst Human Being I've Ever Known'
It's something of an unwritten rule in the larger entertainment industry to avoid criticizing those who recently passed away, regardless of how controversial their reputation might have been earlier in their lives.
Though most people tend to avoid speaking out against these controversial celebrities following their death, Val Kilmer's former director on 2008's Conspiracy isn't holding back in his outspoken dislike for the late Top Gunactor.
According to Entertainment Weekly, 58-year-old filmmaker Adam Marcus recently posted on social media about his view of Kilmer, most especially the difficulty he had working with the actor in the critically panned 2008 thriller.
“#MicroIntellectMonday to that time when I directed that guy. The guy who played Iceman and Doc Holiday. You know the one,” Marcus wrote on Threads. “Here’s me and the Putz working it out on the set of Conspiracy. So yeah, that happened.”
Perhaps anticipating some pushback from fans of Kilmer one year after his death from pneumonia, Marcus defended his comments by acknowledging the personal animosity he held for the actor all these years later.
“And to any of you rolling your eyes because of the whole ‘don’t speak ill of the dead bulls**t,’ f**k that,” Marcus bluntly said. “[If] this guy did one-tenth of what he did on my set today, he would have been cancelled in a blink.”
“Worst human being I’ve ever known… and that is really saying something,” the director finished by saying. Marcus went on to delete these posts shortly after making them public on Threads.
Throughout his career, Kilmer acquired a reputation for his difficult and demanding nature, something multiple directors and Kilmer himself acknowledged.
In the 2021 documentary Val, Kilmer specifically said, “I have behaved poorly. I have behaved bravely. I have behaved bizarrely to some."
“I deny none of this and have no regrets because I have lost and found parts of myself that I never knew existed," the Tombstone star continued. "And I am blessed.”
Jennifer Lopez Shuts Down Brett Goldstein Romance Rumors
Jennifer Lopezis shutting down romance rumors with her most recent rom-com co-star Brett Goldstein.
"There's never a time when I am seen with somebody or working with somebody where they don't try to put me with the person," Lopez said of during an appearance on the Today show on Tuesday alongside Goldstein while promoting their Netflix film, 'Office Romance.'
When pressed a bit further by host Savannah Guthrie, Lopez blatantly confirmed that the two are "not dating," however Goldstein acknowledged that "if you stand near her, that's what happens," in regards to the rumors.
She also fangirled over his previous projects including Ted Lasso and Shrinking during their joint interview.
However, the two may or may not have been fueling the fire as their off-screen chemistry has become notable, a fact that Goldstein, who also co-wrote the film, didn't shy away from in the Tuesday morning interview.
"She's the best actress in the world and she can have chemistry with a bin," he said. "When we first met on the Zoom it was instant, like we were laughing it was easier, it was like 'okay this is gonna be great.'"
Lopez, who has shared the screen with Matthew McConaughey, Owen Wilson, and Ralph Fiennes as love interests, possibly started the speculation herself as went as far to say that Goldstein is her "favorite on-screen kiss" during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live.
A source also told People recently that the two have "flirty" and "genuine" energy together, but denied that the two were an official item.
“Her flirty energy with Brett is genuine," but added that she's “in a great place on her own right now though and doesn't need a relationship to feel happy.”
Off-screen, J.Lo has been busy as her twins, Max and Emme, just graduated high school and will be off to college in the fall.
"Don’t talk about it because we start crying," she said during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week. "I’ve been crying for two months."
Per People, "she's looking forward to taking a special trip with the kids before they leave for school," a source told the outlet. “It's an emotional time for her, but she's incredibly proud of them."
Lopez shares Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony.

This, however, isn't your only chance to see the Goo Goo Dolls live this year, as the band will be performing at a few other festivals amid a full summer headlining tour with special guests, Neon Trees, running from July through Sept.
In addition to iHeart's festival, Goo Goo Dolls will be appearing at Sea.Hear.Now Festival 2026.
The band—featuring lead singer John Rzeznikand bassist Robby Takac—announced in Dec. that they will be kicking off their tour in Lincoln, Calif. in July, before making stops in Boise, Idaho; Milwaukee, Wis., Pittsburgh, Penn.; Tampa, Fla.; Charleston, S.C.; Richmond, Va., and more before wrapping up in Uncasville, Conn., in early September 2026.
There's been plenty of momentum for the '90s rockers, who have seen their romantic rock anthem, “Iris,” reclaim a spot on Billboard’s Rock Streaming Songs.
Earlier this year, they also revealed that they released a music video for their hit, "Better Days," to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their eighth studio album, Let Love In, while a deluxe edition celebrating this milestone will be released on July 24.
Fans attending the iHeart Festival or the upcoming tour can expect to hear some of the band's signature hits like "Slide" and "Name," or crowd favorites such as "Black Balloon."
As for "Iris," their defining '90s anthem, released in 1998 for the City of Angels soundtrack, Rzeznik recently told Geniusthat his "favorite part of the song is the slide guitar solo, which I wanted to play," though it ended up being played by session guitarist Tim Pierce, which Rzeznik admits made it much better.
“We were lucky enough to work with a guy named Tim Pierce. When I did it, it sounded like a bunch of cats fighting,” he confessed, noting, “And when he did it, it was just this gorgeous, lush thing, you know?”
1965 Rock Classic, Originally a Major Flop, Became a No. 1 Hit 61 Years Ago
Not all songs released on an album get notable recognition from fans when it's first released. In 1965, the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson saw an opportunity with a previously released album track that he felt could become a commercial success, and it was.
"Help Me, Rhonda" is inarguably one of the best songs to have been released in the summer of '65, but it wasn't that way at the start. The track was released as part of their album The Beach Boys Today! and got little attention. It was also under a different title spelling: "Help Me, Ronda." A few months later, Wilson revisited the track and felt like it had star potential for the group.
Wilson reworked the track with a different arrangement, slightly different lyrics, and with Al Jardine singing the lead vocals. "Help Me, Rhonda" was instead released as its own single in early April and skyrocketed on the charts. It became a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in late May and held the spot for two weeks. It became their second chart-topper since "I Get Around" was released in 1964.
The breakup track's lyrics focus on a man who's attracted to a woman and learns she's found someone else. As a result, the man asks a woman named Rhonda to help him forget about her. According to The Washington Post, Wilson confirmed that Rhonda isn't a real person. Mike Love has joked that the name was made up for the track because many women at the time had the same name.
According to American Songwriter, Wilson stopped touring with the band after having a nervous breakdown on a flight to Houston. A year later, Wilson thought about the type of songs he and the band wanted to create, and soon revisited "Help Me, Rhonda."
“The whole year after the flight to Houston, I kept thinking about what kinds of songs I should be making and whether there were any limits to how a pop song could sound. I couldn’t really think of any. I knew I had to explore that sound more. I had to go further in that direction, bring more orchestration and different kinds of arrangements into our music," he said.
The backstory behind the recording of "Help Me, Rhonda" also involved a heated argument. While recording the track, Wilson's father, Murray, was in attendance despite having been dismissed by the group as their manager for almost a year. A real, unedited tape of the recording session exists where Murray criticizes the band, is constantly talking, and Wilson's response to his father.
"I wasn’t happy. I had to take off my headphones and talk to him. ‘We would like to perform in an atmosphere of calmness, Dad,’ I said. I said something else also, over and over again: ‘Times are changing.’ It was never easy to have him around, but it wasn’t easy to be without him either," said Wilson.
Thanks to Wilson, "Help Me, Rhonda" became one of the Beach Boys' most well-known tracks in their career.

World Market's 100% Cotton Bath Towel Adds a Splash of Color to Your Bathroom
Bathroom renovations can get expensive fast. First, you're casually browsing tile samples, and the next thing you know, you're pricing out vanities that cost more than your first car. But the good news? You don't need a full gut renovation to make your bathroom feel fresh. Sometimes, the smallest things end up making the biggest difference—and yes, that includes towels.
Bath towels might seem like one of those purely practical purchases, but they do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to style. After all, they're usually hanging out in plain sight, draped over bars, hooks or folded on shelves, making them one of the easiest ways to introduce color, texture or personality into the room. Swap out a tired set for something patterned, colorful or textured. Now your bathroom is giving boutique hotel energy instead of, well, sad.
Gia White and Terracotta Diamond Terry Bath Towel, $19.99 at World MarketWorld Market
The same goes for bath mats, hand towels and other soft accessories. When a full remodel isn't in the budget, these smaller swaps create a style moment without requiring a contractor, demolition or a second mortgage. If you love embracing color and pattern, World Market's Gia White and Terracotta Diamond Terry Bath Towel might just be for you.
If your bathroom could use a little personality boost without committing to a whole makeover, this towel does a lot with very little effort. It's mostly crisp white, but the sculpted terracotta diamond border adds a warm, earthy pop of color that feels very desert-inspired without going overboard.

Made from 100 percent cotton terry cloth, it's soft, plush and absorbent—a towel that feels good to grab after a shower. And it has a relaxed boho vibe that feels almost sun-soaked.
While the bath towel is $19.99, there is a matching hand towel for $12.99 if you decide to kit out your space in this exact print.
World Market shoppers are big fans of these, and, apparently, so are guests to their homes.
"I love these towels," says a customer in their review. "I use them in my downstairs bathroom where guests will most likely be. So colorful and absorbent. I have many different designs of these towels from WM. People always compliment them and ask me where I purchased them!"
While $19.99 per towel might seem a little steep compared to buying a towel set, like a six-piece set from Kohl's that breaks down to $8.33 per towel, this World Market find brings something a little more distinctive to your bathroom. It's up to you whether you think the price is worth it.
