'Forbidden Fruits' Costume Designer Addresses Fashion Brand Behind Film Stars' Campy Looks

Tue, 04/07/2026 - 2:41pm

Forbidden Fruits was not only an eccentric cult classic in the making, but it also produced some of the most memorable costume designs of the year.

The 2026 film is a horror-satire focused on a group of girls who are Free Eden saleswomen by day and witchy cult members by night. When new recruit Pumpkin joins the group, she begins breaking apart the dynamic bit by bit until horrifying secrets are revealed.

The Free Eden sales associates, each named after a fruit, are distinct characters crafted to provide commentary on the unique and complex nature of female friendships. Dressing these characters in pieces that represented their specific identities was a task for the best in the industry.

The mastermind behind the Free Eden girls' wardrobes was none other than Sarah Millman, who entered the project with a limited budget and a clear vision. In the early stages of production, an unlikely collaborator reached out to sponsor the film's looks: American Eagle. The brand not only financially supported the costume budget but also aided the department by supplying foundational pieces for each girl, grounding them in a core aesthetic.

In a recent Variety interview, Millman admitted that having a mall brand support the project was instrumental in establishing the film's setting. “A mall brand was helping fund a movie about a mall,” Millman said. “It really just grounded the film in the mall."

Despite the assistance from American Eagle, building costume designs was still a tedious task. Planning for the looks began weeks before production as Millman worked with her team to accumulate pieces that would anchor the girls to their specific visual identity.

Alongside American Eagle items, nearly a third of the film's costume pieces were sourced from thrift stores, curating the perfect “campy, Y2K, a little bit vintage inspired” aesthetic. These eccentric outfits aided in building characterization, portraying the girls as natural saleswomen with a knack for fashion.

Fans can currently browse looks similar to the Free Eden girls' wardrobes on the American Eagle website.

1978 'Best Slasher Movie Ever' Director is Launching 2 New Podcasts

Tue, 04/07/2026 - 2:25pm

To quote the Scream killer, what's your favorite scary movie?

A popular choice dates back to the original scream queen in 1978. From iconic director John Carpenter, the very first Halloween film starred Jamie Lee Curtis — who would later reprise her role in the recent sequels.

Halloween (1978) often been called one of the greatest horror films of all time and was even named the "greatest slasher movie ever made" by Collider last year.

Now, almost 50 years later, its director is still keeping busy in the storytelling realm. In addition to the recent concerts where he performed his iconic film soundtracks, Carpenter, 78, is also attached two new podcasts that are launching.

On Tuesday, April 7, Cineverse's horror division known as Bloody Disgusting announced a new partnership with Storm King Productions to develop and launch two original scripted podcasts under the “John Carpenter Presents” banner. The collaboration brings together two established forces in the horror space to expand premium storytelling into the audio fiction market.

The first series, John Carpenter Presents: Something Wicked, is available now. Fans can listen here.

The eight-episode scripted series follows a young historian and a seasoned detective investigating paranormal crimes in New Orleans. Inspired by real events, the series blends supernatural horror with investigative drama.

In addition to Something Wicked, Bloody Disgusting and Storm King Productions are in production on a second original “John Carpenter Presents” fiction podcast. Further details will be announced.

“Storm King Productions got its start in podcasting with Roanoke Falls (2003 Signal Award Winner) and it’s a form we’ve wanted to revisit,” said Sandy King, CEO of Storm King Productions, in a statement. “[Creator] Read Ridley brought us a compelling story rooted in New Orleans, drawing on local talent and the genuine spooky atmosphere of bayou folklore. It's a story that provides a grand way for our return to fiction podcasting. John and I are thrilled to partner with Cineverse to do that.”

Eric Roberts Gives Update on Relationship With Daughter Emma Roberts

Tue, 04/07/2026 - 2:24pm

Actor Eric Roberts is known for his roles in movies such as National Security and The Dark Knight, as well as television series like Suits and Less Than Perfect. But he’s also the brother of Academy Award-winning actress Julia Roberts and the father of actressEmma Roberts

Roberts (Eric, that is) recently appeared on the podcast ‘Really Famous with Kara Mayer Robinson,’ opening up about his life, depression, and a reported rift with his famous daughter, Emma. Robinson starts the interview by asking Roberts about Emma, “You told me a story last time we talked about when Emma was born, and you held her, and you sang to her.”

The actor reminisces about his daughter’s birth, saying he sang to her constantly during his then-girlfriend Kelly Cunningham’s pregnancy. Roberts and Cunningham parted ways shortly after Emma’s birth in 1991.

He went on to explain that, like most babies, Emma arrived making plenty of noise. He immediately broke into a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ and, “she stopped screaming and tried to find my face with her little blind eyes. And it was the most complete moment, maybe I have ever had in my life…it was magic, and I’ll always have that.”

Robinson continues the podcast, saying to Roberts, “It’s also hard, parenting.” The actor responds, “The hardest job to do well and the easiest job to get on the planet.”

The conversation then moves into an open discussion about Roberts’ depression and the time following his daughter’s birth. He admits, “I was emotionally, I was a wash rag. I was not to be depended on emotionally whatsoever.” Robinson presses the issue of his daughter and their relationship, saying, “I brought up Emma, and I hope that doesn’t make you uncomfortable.”

While the media has painted a picture of a strained father-daughter relationship that barely exists, Roberts doesn’t immediately shy away from speaking about their family dynamic. “I’m so proud of my daughter.”

When asked, “It’s complicated though, right?”, the actor points out, “No, no, it’s only complicated through outside eyes because they don’t, because you know, they don’t get any of it. So they have their own take, whatever that is, and it's not a straight line. Cuz they aren’t really involved…But it’s not a real relationship with the subjects. Bring her up all day. I’m so proud of my kid.

Even though Roberts seems completely comfortable answering most of Robinson’s questions, when she continues, “You have your relationship with her. I don’t know what the situation is. There are probably emotions that are complicated,” he moves the conversatgion on, saying, “Probably, but that’s not an issue and that’s not anything I’m here to discuss with you. I mean, just it is what that is, but that’s a whole other issue in my life.”

So how does Roberts view life? According to the famous father, “Life is very complicated, but what’s great about life as you get old is you realize that um, that nobody gets away with it. So be as nice as you can so people feel they should be nice to you.”

Ryan Seacrest Breaks Down His Dating Dealbreakers and Must-Have Green Flags

Tue, 04/07/2026 - 2:24pm

Right off the bat, red flags can make or break a relationship, andRyan Seacrest is getting candid about what works and what doesn’t when it comes to finding the right partner. The TV host got real on what red flags he avoids and what "specific" green flags he hopes to find.

The topic of relationship dealbreakers came up after Seacrest joked on Wheel of Fortunethat he was ready to turn to Tinder to look for love. On the latest episode of On Air With Ryan Seacrest, he revealed a few red flags that people either agree with or think the host is being too particular.

Seacrest has posted on Instagram about his active lifestyle and revealed that if someone who is on a walk, run, or bike ride doesn't greet another person as they pass by, it's a "red flag." The red flag also includes if the person doesn't wave back after someone greeted them first, with Seacrest admitting, "If you don't, I'm not so sure about you."

His next red flag has to do with his morning routine and something he isn't willing to compromise on. The TV host enjoys getting up in the morning and having his preferred cup of coffee, and says that "If we can’t share that moment together, it’s a red flag." In relation to coffee, a green flag for him is someone who prefers their coffee black, with adding dairy a major red flag.

The coffee red flag caused a stir in the recording room, as his cohosts Tanya Red and Sisanie left stunned by what he confessed. His last green flag when looking for a partner, which Sisanie called "so specific," was if they could get ready in 27 minutes. Whether Seacrest's relationship dos and don'ts are realistic, fans will have to wait and see. He does admit that despite making a joke about Tinder, he's currently not on the dating platform.

The Wheel of Fortune host is currently single and ended his relationship with model Aubrey Paige in April 2024. He dated the model for three years, and previously dated chef Shayna Taylor on-and-off for eight years from 2013 until 2020. Before that relationship, he also dated Dancing with the Stars alum Julianne Hough.

Beloved 2009 Pixar Film ‘Up’ Is Finally Getting Its First Ever Theme Park Attraction

Tue, 04/07/2026 - 2:16pm

The hit 2009 Pixar feature film, UP, is finally getting its first-ever theme park attraction.

Developed by Walt Disney Imagineering and manufactured by Zamperla Group, DLP Works recently revealed that a family-friendly ride based on Carl and Ellie’s house will be coming to Disney Adventure World in Disneyland Paris.

According to DLP Works, the UP ride will have a queue heavily themed around the film “and the spirit of adventure.” It will be divided into four narrative zones, from Carl and Ellie’s memories to Carl’s balloons leading to the attraction.

The ride will feature 64 seats across 48 swing positions, which DLP Works suggests will likely mean 32 single seats and 16 double.

The early concept photos of the ride look similar to the swing ride Silly Symphony Swings at California Adventure Park in Anaheim. This design has been met with mixed reactions from fans.

“It’s a chair swing ride,” one fan commented on Facebook. “It’s hardly groundbreaking or exciting.”

Another fan called the ride a missed opportunity, commenting that “a balloon themed ride is obvious. Could have been amazing.”

However, others have expressed their excitement for the ride, with one fan on Facebook saying, “I love the retro feel of this, it just feels soooo Carl & Ellie.”

Inspired by Tivoli Gardens, an amusement park in Copenhagen, the new attraction will include a mix of Art Nouveau and early aviation aesthetics. DLP Works posted a list of its architectural features:

“Curved structures & decorative metalwork,

Industrial references inspired by vintage aircraft & zeppelins (nod to the film),

Balloon motifs integrated into the entrance & exit structures,

Colorful architecture inspired by Carl’s balloons,

Stained glass elements producing “warm lighting” effects.”

Additionally, the ride will have a “musical atmosphere inspired by fairground organs.” The rotating canopy of the ride will gradually reveal a mural, which will be designed in collaboration with Pixar Studios.

On March 29, Disney Adventure Park opened its newest experience, World of Frozen. Featuring the Arendelle castle and character encounters, this new immersive world transports visitors to the 2013 movie. Check out a first look at the land from Good Morning America on YouTube.

While an opening date has not yet been announced for the UP attraction, early concept photos can be seen here:

Foo Fighters' New Drummer Opens Up About Move From Nine Inch Nails

Tue, 04/07/2026 - 2:09pm

Ilan Rubinhas been playing shows with the Foo Fighters for several months, and now he's opening up about the band's decision to bring him on after firing their previous Taylor Hawkins replacement, Josh Freese.

Rubin's comments came after Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor spoke about what has been called a "drummer swap" when Freese was let go from Foo Fighters, and Rubin left NIN only to switch places.

"Being completely honest, we’re adults, and we’re professional, but we’re also people with emotional feelings and a sense of camaraderie and intent and purpose," Reznor told Consequence of Sound in December 2025. "I thought it would feel better to play that last wave of tours with someone that wants to be there, and that’s what went down."

Before rejoining NIN, Freese played drums for the Reznor-led group from 2005 to 2008, touring with the band on With TeethYear Zero, and The Slip, and recording for Year Zero and The Slip.

Freese left NIN at the end of 2008 to spend more time with his family, as his wife was expecting a third child and he was the only member of the band with children.

Rubin was Freese's replacement in 2008 and has been with NIN until July 2025. On Saturday, Apr. 4, he was featured in the latest episode of Go with Elmo Lovano, where he spoke about how he and Freese ended up trading places.

Initially, Rubin explained that the Foo Fighters gig "came out of nowhere" after getting a call from Dave Grohl, telling Elmo Lovano that he "couldn't be happier." Then he went on to explain how the Foo Fighters gig went down, saying it was "delicate" after playing for Nine Inch Nails for nearly two decades.

"There is no story, honestly. I think it’s just a very logical thing," insisted Rubin. "There was nothing behind it. And it’s very logical in the sense that Josh played with Nails from, I wanna say, '05 to the end of '08. I auditioned in '08, took over the next shows, I think it was February of '09, and was with the band up until last summer. The last tour I did was a European tour of the 'Peel It Back' cycle."

He continued, "When I was gotten in touch with, Dave and management, everyone was very well aware that I had a commitment up to this point, and was I doing anything afterwards? And at the time, there was nothing I knew about. The tour that Nine Inch Nails had just triumphantly wrapped up was not on the books. So, as far as I knew, my contract ended on a date. After that, it was, 'What am I doing next?' And when this happened, and the opportunity presented itself, and it was just an obvious great fit and a great thing for me."

Rubin went on to explain why Freese's return to Nine Inch Nails only made sense. "When the news leaked, because it did leak, it was billed as this drummer swap. Now that would imply that Trent and Dave were like 'Hey, you know what would be a great idea? Yeah why not? Which is the dumbest thing." Rubin shared.

He went on to emphasize that the move was "a switch, but it was certainly not a swap. I left my tenure with Nine Inch Nails to join Foo Fighters. The guy who joined Nine Inch Nails was no longer with Foo Fighters. That's literally what it was."

‘80s Icons Join Forces for Summer Tour

Tue, 04/07/2026 - 2:07pm

The ‘80s are back—or perhaps they’ve never left. The decade that spawned new wave among other things will be celebrated with a tour headlined by Howard Jones this summer.

The “Things Can Only Get Better” North American tour, named for Jones’ 1985 hit, kicks off July 19 in Napa, Calif. Joining Jones on the trek are fellow ‘80s icons Wang Chung, the English Beat and Modern English, while SiriusXM radio personality Richard Blade will serve as the host.

Unlike some other package tours, each act will play full sets on the 21-date tour, which stops in Las Vegas, Indianapolis, Washington, D.C., Boston and other cities before wrapping on Aug. 23 in Toronto.

“I dreamed of curating a tour with my favorite bands that could bring some positivity in our troubled times. I’m thrilled that this is actually happening this summer with the Things Can Only Get Better Tour,” Jones said in a statement. “Joining me are my friends Wang Chung, the English Beat, Modern English, and Richard Blade. I’m so excited to be touring with these amazing talents. Our aim is to bring some joy with the banging pop anthems that we all know and love. ‘Things Can Only Get Better’ is a message of hope for a future that we can create, when we stand up for the world we want to live in. Can’t wait to see you this summer!”

Jack Hues and Nick Feldman of Wang Chung also shared their feelings about the upcoming tour. “We are very excited to be joining Howard on this tour. We have known each other since the ‘80s but have never toured extensively together before. We have worked with Dave Wakeling and the English Beat and Modern English more recently. They are all great guys and exciting bands – four British bands bringing their hits and that unique 80s energy to your hometown - don’t miss it!"

Modern English’s Robbie Grey noted that it won’t just be a nostalgia fest, as his band will also be playing some new material. “Will be great touring with old friends again. Every night will be a top night,” he said. “We will play songs from our latest album 1234 and of course the classic early material and that song ‘I Melt With You.’”

To help promote the tour, Jones is set to appear on SiriusXM’s “First Wave Hollywood Happy Hour” with Blade on April 10 at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET.

Carrie Underwood’s ’90s-Inspired Makeover Has Fans Going Wild: ‘Absolutely Obsessed’

Tue, 04/07/2026 - 2:04pm

Carrie Underwood rewound to 1997 for last night’s episode of American Idol

Inspired by the classic girl-power comedy Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, Underwood rocked a look akin to the iconic “comeback” dress worn by Lisa Kudrow’s Michele Weinberger.

Sleek and futuristic, Underwood’s baby-pink metallic minidress was elevated with a pink fur trim on the skirt and a simple bow under the bust. She finished the look with a matching microbag, metallic block-heel sandals by Soda, and a custom rhinestone choker.

As for the glam, the superstar’s long locks were teased into the perfect Michele half-updo and her makeup was statement Michele all the way.

In the film, Michele wears the space-age dress during a climactic scene, when she and Romy, dressed in a complementary blue metallic look, finally tell off mean girls Christie, Cheryl, and Kelly who bullied them in high school.

"You're a bad person with an ugly heart, and we don't give a flying f--- what you think," Romy says to Christie before turning and walking away. "Come on, Michele."

"Okay, and ... YEAH!" Michele hurls at all three.

Mona May, the movie’s costume designer, created the glitzy ensembles to directly contrast the performative "business women’s special” suits the best friends wore at the beginning of their reunion to conform to mediocrity.

American Idol Fans Loved the Look

Underwood shared her look on Instagram, captioning the post, "Taking it back to the 90s for tonight’s look, inspired by 'Michele' from Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion! #americanidol #90s #90sstyle 👀 🎥 🎀👗🏫”

Fans and famous people alike were thrilled with Underwood's throwback. Several took to the Denim & Rhinestones artist's comments section to share their approval.

"You’re the Carrie. YOU’RE THE CARRIE! 💗," American Idol wrote, referencing the infamous Mary-and-Rhoda fued in the movie.

"Cuteeee," dancer Adam Boreland said.

"Absolutely obsessed 💓 whoever is styling her this season is doing INCREDIBLE," a fan commented.

Related: Misha Collins Posts ‘Supernatural’ Shout Out To Jensen Ackles Ahead Of ‘The Boys’ Season 5

What scene did Jensen Ackles refuse to do in The Boys?

Jensen Ackles made his debut as Soldier Boy—a twisted take on Captain America—in Season 3 of The Boys. But even on a show known for pushing boundaries, there was one moment the actor wasn’t willing to film.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ackles admitted he drew a firm line when presented with a particularly explicit scene. “As a father of three, and a son and a husband and a self-respecting human being, I can’t do this,” he said recalling a conversation with showrunner Eric Kripke. “I didn’t know where my line was, but you found it.”

Kripke, who previously worked with Ackles on Supernatural, confirmed they ultimately adjusted the moment. “We worked out a compromise where I got what I needed without him destroying his soul,” Kripke said in the same interview.

While the EW piece didn’t specify the scene, Ackles later clarified in an interview with Fangasm that it involved a much more explicit intimate moment with an older woman—one briefly seen in Season 3, Episode 7, “Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed.”

Who is in the cast of The Boys?

The cast includes Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, Antony Starr as Homelander, Erin Moriarty a Starlight, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk, Chase Crawford as The Deep, Tomer Capone as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, Susan Heyward as Sister Sage, Valorie Curry as Firecracker and Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy.

Will Jared Padalecki be in The Boys?

Yes! The Boys is bringing a little Supernatural reunion along for the ride in its final season. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed that both Misha Collins and Jared Padalecki appear in Episode 5.

“What I love about what they're doing is they're just such douchebags. It's great,” Kripke told EW. “I mean, Soldier Boy is no treat either, but they're just really not morally upstanding dudes. It's a blast to watch them play that. It was just so much fun.”

Is there a trailer for the final season of The Boys?

Of course! You can check out the most recent trailer for The Boys below. If you watch closely you'll spot Collins and Padalecki.

1989 Beloved Sports Comedy Was a No. 1 Hit 37 Years Ago

Tue, 04/07/2026 - 2:00pm

On April 7, 1989, moviegoers flocked to theaters for the release of Major League, a sports comedy that would eventually become one of the most enduring films about an underdog.

With David. S Ward in the director’s seat and memorable performances by Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, Dennis Haysbert, Wesley Snipes, and Corbin Bernsen, the film captured the hearts of both sports fans and casual audiences alike.

The film trails the new owner of the Cleveland Indians, former showgirl Rachel Phelps (played by Margaret Whitton), who has a deal to move the team to Miami. But to break the lease with the city of Cleveland, ticket sales must plummet, so her solution is to assemble a team of incompetent players to secure a losing streak. However, the underdogs discover teamwork, grit, and unexpected talent in the process, while she accidentally turns them into potential winners, against all odds.

Delivering plenty of laughs and heartfelt moments along the way, thanks to the quirky ensemble cast, Major League debuted at No. 1 at the U.S box office.

With the premiere coinciding with the MLB season, the film hit a commercial home run.

In its opening weekend, it grossed around $8.8 million, holding the top spot for two consecutive weekends.

It surpassed its budget of $11 miion, bringing in roughly $50 milllion domestically, while marking a cultural success. It dropped down to the second spot in its third weekend, the third spot in the fourth weekend, and remained in the top 10 for about two months.

Over the 37 years since its debut, the film has earned a place on lists of the highest-grossing baseball films, including taking the number 10 spot on The Wrap's list of iconic baseball films.

Sheen, Bernsen and Berenger all came back for the sequel, Major League II, which premiered a few years later in March 1994 and took home $30.6 million at the box office.

Though to this day, the original film, which was received positively by critics and fans, is remembered not just as a box office hit, but a beloved comedy that helped define an era. It's got a lasting legacy and a loyal fanbase.

1977 Hit Ranked in 'Greatest Songs of All Time' Became a Haunting Anthem

Tue, 04/07/2026 - 1:59pm

On February 22, 1977, the Eagles released what would become one of the most recognizable songs in rock history: “Hotel California.”

Just a few months later, the track climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking another major milestone for the band during their peak era—Rolling Stone has always included it on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Written by Don Felder (music) and Don Henley and Glenn Frey (lyrics), “Hotel California” quickly stood out for its cinematic storytelling and layered meaning. The song follows a weary traveler who checks into a mysterious hotel—only to discover he may never be able to leave.

In the 2013 documentary History of the Eagles, Henley described the track as “a journey from innocence to experience,” while the band often referred to it as their interpretation of the high life in Los Angeles—a world of glamour that slowly reveals a darker undercurrent.

Musically, the song is just as iconic as its lyrics. It closes with a now-legendary dual guitar solo performed by Felder and Joe Walsh—a climactic moment that continues to draw admiration decades later. As music producer Isaac Brown recently put it, “That’s a tasteful solo … the lead guitarist on this record has a good ear for melody.”

The song’s production has also stood the test of time. “The drum mix is phenomenal … it’s at a fidelity that I’m not used to hearing from albums of this era,” Brown also noted, highlighting just how advanced the recording still sounds to modern ears.

Despite running over six minutes—far longer than most radio hits at the time—the band refused to shorten it, a gamble that paid off as the song became a defining anthem of the era.

Over the decades, “Hotel California” has only grown in stature. It won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and continues to rank on lists of the greatest songs ever recorded, with its meaning still debated by fans and critics alike.

Even today, the track continues to resonate with new generations of listeners. “This is one of my favorite mixes and just engineering masterpieces that I’ve heard so far in music from this era,” said Brown.

‘Breaking Bad’ Icon Bryan Cranston Reveals He Almost Joined the L.A.P.D.

Tue, 04/07/2026 - 1:55pm

Bryan Cranston is a TV legend thanks to his role as Walter White on Breaking Bad. But despite playing a relentless criminal, the actor revealed he almost went into law enforcement.

Cranston, 70, made us laugh on Seinfeld and Malcolm in the Middle, but made television history in his role as White on Breaking Bad, which ran from 2008 to 2013 on AMC. A high school science teacher facing cancer who turns to making meth and becomes a kingpin, Cranston showcased a talent playing White that earned him endless awards. But in a new interview in the Wall Street Journal, Cranston revealed that he actually had plans to pursue a career with the Los Angeles Police Department.

"In junior high, I checked out. The only thing I related to was sports, and I scrambled to survive academically. I became quiet and observant. After high school, I attended L.A. Valley College, a two-year community school," Cranston shared. "My brother was interested in police work and was studying to join the Los Angeles Police Department. At college, I studied police science, which gave me discipline and taught me right from wrong."

However, Cranston needed an elective, and acting was fun. Luckily for us TV viewers, the class was so successful for him that it left Cranston "with second thoughts about police work."

Bryan Cranston's Daughter, Taylor Dearden, Stars on The Pitt

Cranston's daughter, Taylor Dearden, is a rising star in her own right. The actress, 33, has earned raves as Dr. Mel King on the hit HBO medical series The Pitt. Cranston couldn't be more thrilled.

“Well, Taylor is a wonderful, hard-working actor,” Cranston told Craig Melvin during a recent appearance on TODAY. “She grew up in this business with my wife and I being actors. And so, we’re so proud of her.”

Cranston went on to say that there’s nothing better than hearing his daughter is thriving.

“When I hear praise for Taylor’s work on The Pitt, it means more to me than anything anyone could ever say to me about my work,” he said. “You know, you’re a proud dad. And I’m OK. I could retire after you hear that.”

Dearden’s mother, actress Robin Dearden, is also overwhelmed with pride for her daughter.

“There is nothing more gratifying than when your kid receives praise. Nothing,” Cranston told the Associated Press, of what he and his wife believe about their daughter’s success. “No one can say anything to me that’s better than that.”

“Her mom and I are just over the moon with her work on it,” he noted.

This 1995 Movie Launched a Billion-Dollar Franchise 31 Years Ago Today

Tue, 04/07/2026 - 1:36pm

Bad Boys, the iconic action comedy released by Columbia Pictures, debuted in theaters on April 7, 1995. The original film grossed over $140 million, making it a commercial success. The story followed two detectives as they tried to protect a witness to a murder while investigating stolen goods from the evidence room at their precinct. The leads were played by award-winning actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

Bad Boys is now a major franchise consisting of four movies and a spinoff series. The films include Bad Boys II, Bad Boys for Life, and Bad Boys: Ride or Die. The most recent film, which was released in 2024, grossed over $100 million during its opening weekend.

During a 2025 interview, the stars opened up about the softness of their characters, Marcus and Mike. They discussed the concept of 'masculinity' and how the way it is portrayed in movies has shifted over time. “I think that’s one of the things that is fun and interesting about Bad Boys," Smith said. "Even the irony of the title. There’s a broadness to the spectrum of the definition of a bad boy. Our characters say they love each other.” Lawrence added, “But we’re like that in real life. We tell each other we love each other in real life.”

Lawrence and Smith have starred in every film in the franchise. Michael Bay directed the original, then returned for the first sequel. Although he wasn’t involved in the making of the third or fourth movie, he has made cameos in both. He played the emcee at a wedding in the third film and a Porsche driver in the fourth.

Gabrielle Union was another memorable character from the franchise. She appeared in the second installment as Marcus’ sister, Lieutenant Sydney Burnett. Her character went on to have her own spinoff show, LA’s Finest. The series, which also starred Jessica Alba, ran from 2019 to 2020.

Although a fifth Bad Boys movie has not been officially confirmed, Lawrence has hinted that he's open to returning for another installment in the future. "I never say never,” he teased. “But it also has to make sense. If the fans ask for it, you know we could be back."

The actor also admitted that he personally enjoys making the films. "Will and I have a great time working together," he said. "So as long as the fans want it and the demand is there, I’ll keep trying to give them what they want."

Top Lip Balms for Dry Lips What To Look for in a Lip Balm

When choosing a lip balm, "look for formulas with moisturizing and barrier-repair ingredients such as petrolatum, shea butter, ceramides or hyaluronic acid. These help seal in moisture and protect the delicate skin on the lips," board-certified dermatologist and founder of DermWorksDr. Jenna Queller tells Parade.

Why Are My Lips So Dry?

According to Queller, lips can feel dry for multiple reasons.

"Environmental factors like cold weather, wind or sun exposure are common culprits. Dehydration and frequent lip licking can also worsen dryness. In some cases, irritating ingredients in lip products—such as fragrances, menthol, camphor or certain flavorings —can trigger irritation or allergic contact dermatitis," she says.

Tips for Preventing Dry Lips

Unfortunately, you can't control the weather, but you can control several other factors that contribute to dry lips.

"The key is prevention and protection. Use a nourishing lip balm regularly, especially before going outdoors or to bed. Stay well hydrated, avoid licking your lips and try to limit products with potential irritants," Queller says.

And when it comes to weather, dermatologists suggest using a humidifier in dry climates or during the winter months to "maintain moisture in the skin and lips."

Ingredients To Avoid in Lip Balm

As for ingredients, Queller says there are a few that you should avoid if you're hoping to prevent dry lips:

  • Fragrance and flavorings: "These are one of the most common causes of irritation on the lips. Even if they smell or taste nice, they can lead to sensitivity or allergic reactions over time, including allergic contact dermatitis," she says.
  • Menthol, camphor and phenol: "These ingredients create a cooling or tingling sensation, but they can be drying and irritating to the delicate lip skin. With repeated use, they may disrupt the skin barrier and perpetuate a cycle of dryness," she explains.
  • Salicylic acid or exfoliating acids: "While helpful for acne, these ingredients are too harsh for regular use on the lips and can lead to peeling, irritation and increased sensitivity," she says.
  • Essential oils (like peppermint, citrus or cinnamon): "These are often marketed as 'natural,' but they can be surprisingly irritating and are a common trigger for lip sensitivity," she says.
  • Lanolin and beeswax: "Both can be very effective barrier ingredients, but they are also potential allergens. In sensitive individuals, they may trigger irritation or allergic reactions," she tells Parade.
Occlusives vs. Humectants vs. Emollients: What Actually Hydrates Lips?

Dr. Ranella Hirsch, a Boston-based board-certified dermatologist, says it's important to understand the difference between occlusives, humectants and emollients while shopping for a lip balm.

  • Occlusives: Hirsch notes that occlusives "seal in moisture" and include ingredients like petrolatum and dimethicone.
  • Humectants: She describes humectants as ingredients that "attract and draw in moisture." Examples include glycerin and hyaluronic acid.
  • Emollients: Hirsch says emollients "soften and smooth" lips. She cites lanolin and cocoa butter paraffin as examples.

Do You Really Need SPF in Lip Balm?

Sunscreen is an essential product that protects your skin from the sun's harsh rays. But is it necessary to get a lip balm with built-in SPF? Queller recommends it, saying lips are "particularly vulnerable to sun damage."

If you're wearing a wide-brimmed hat and avoiding the sun during its peak hours, your lips are probably safe from the sun, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

"Sunscreen, especially for the lower lip, is a best practice and one to be heartily encouraged," Hirsch says.

How Often Should You Apply Lip Balm?

Not sure how often you should apply lip balm for optimal results? Queller says most people benefit from using it several times a day, "typically every few hours and after eating or drinking."

"I always suggest applying a thicker, occlusive balm before bed so it can work overnight to repair the lip barrier," she adds.

Can You Overuse Lip Balm?

Many skin care products should be used sparingly so they don't irritate your complexion, but Queller says you can typically use lip balms as often as you want to, as long as they don't include ingredients that might aggravate your lips.

"It’s actually a common myth that lip balm itself causes dependence. However, constantly reapplying certain formulas—especially those with irritating ingredients like menthol or camphor—can create a cycle of irritation that makes lips feel drier. Choosing a gentle, fragrance-free balm is key," she says.

When To See a Dermatologist for Chronically Dry Lips

Dry lips are usually a routine issue, but there may come a point when you might want to consult a dermatologist for their professional opinion.

"If your lips remain persistently dry, cracked or painful despite using a gentle balm for a few weeks, it’s worth seeing a dermatologist. Chronic dryness can sometimes be due to conditions like eczema, allergic contact dermatitis or actinic damage from the sun. A dermatologist can help identify the underlying cause and recommend targeted treatment," Queller says.
