Veteran Actors Remember Making Television History 60 Years Ago by Boldly Going

William Shatner, 95, and George Takei, 89, looked back on 60 years of Star Trek, the television series that sparked the imaginations of generations since premiering in 1966. The two longtime veteran actors who played Captain Kirk and Lieutenant Sulu, respectively, reflected on their long journey pioneering pop culture as we know it for AARP Movies for Grownups.

When the show premiered, Takei recalled his baby nephew sleeping through it on his lap, “It wasn’t an overwhelming smash debut,” Takei said of the show's humble initial 3-season run before breaking into a 7-feature film franchise with beloved films such as Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. “The fans who discovered it gave us this totally unexpected, undreamed-of longevity,” Takei told AARP.

Shatner added, “Although the background was futuristic, the foreground was what happens because you’re a human being."

Takei expanded on that aspect of how the show created by Gene Roddenberry, which Lucille Ballgave a chance to and produced, really broke barriers for its cast members by reflecting a society operating for the greater good of all: “Star Trek is a family show,” he explained. “Our most steady audience members are grandpas and grandmas,” and lovingly referred to all of the following spin-off series and crews as the “children and grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren” of the original show.

Shatner reflected on their original crew, many of whom have passed on: "My memory of Star Trek is filled with the lovely people in it,” he said, “Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, to name two. They were beautiful people that were good friends of mine, all dead now," and expressed how he felt that his crew was the gift, while the show's impact on his career trajectory was motivated by his ambition to be "good," sharing, “The definition of success varies from moment to moment. Whatever it was, I was trying to be good at what I did. I don’t recall, like, I’ve got to be successful, but I’ve got to be good at what I’m doing."

Overall the duo fondly look back on their Star Trek legacy: “‘Live long and prosper’ should include gratitude,” Takei said. “Gratitude for the blessings we have.”

'90s Rock Band Announces North America Tour 34 Years After Forming

More than three decades after turning the underground rock world on its head, Melt-Banana is heading back to North America.

The influential Japanese noise rock band has announced a U.S. tour this fall, with a string of headlining dates scheduled across the country. The trek will see the group perform in cities including Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Austin, and New Orleans before wrapping up in Houston. The tour follows the band's recent run of international festival appearances and club shows.

Formed in 1992 in Tokyo by vocalist Yasuko Onuki and guitarist Ichiro Agata, Melt-Banana quickly carved out a reputation unlike any other band of its era.

Blending blistering hardcore punk, noise rock, grindcore, experimental music, and bursts of electronic textures, the duo became known for lightning-fast songs, unpredictable arrangements, and explosive live performances. Their fearless approach earned them a devoted international following and made them one of Japan's most celebrated underground exports.

"We have a sense of what we want in our minds, but we can't find the concrete musical expression of that feeling," Agata told New Noise Magazine. "So, we have to create the answer ourselves, shaping our thoughts into music. It would be nice if we could write new music methodically or systematically, but since that’s not how we create, it takes time."

Over the years, Melt-Banana has released a string of acclaimed albums, including Scratch or Stitch, Charlie, Cell-Scape, and Fetch. The band's willingness to push musical boundaries has also led to collaborations and tours with artists across a wide range of genres, from punk and metal to experimental rock.

Perhaps even more impressive is the band's longevity.

While many of their contemporaries have slowed down or disbanded, Melt-Banana has continued evolving its sound, incorporating drum machines and electronic elements into more recent material without sacrificing the chaotic energy that first made the band a cult favorite.

"I think mostly we are inspired by bands we played with in the past," Agata told Louder. "Especially bands who we toured with including support tour. Also, we both like playing video games, maybe we are also inspired by video games. And sounds in Tokyo. Tokyo is quite a noisy city if you walk in a busy area like Shibuya or Shinjuku or Akihabara or Harajuku, or somewhere like that. It's a natural thing for Japanese people but it might be one of the inspirations we get."

The newly announced North American tour gives fans another chance to experience that intensity firsthand. Known for delivering tightly executed sets packed with rapid-fire songs and relentless energy, Melt-Banana has built a reputation as one of the most exciting live acts in underground rock.

Thirty-four years after forming, the band continues to defy expectations by sounding just as adventurous as it did in the early 1990s. While we often grow up focusing on book smarts, someone who has high emotional intelligence traits adds value to workplaces and friendships.

"They have and display deep empathy toward the feelings of others," says Dr. Deborah Vinall, Psy.D., LMFT, a licensed therapist and the chief psychological officer with recovered.org. "They take accountability when they mess up and are capable of repair within relationships, rather than opting for a quick and clean cut-off, excuses or escalation."

Unsurprisingly, high-EQ traits are key in conflict resolution with friends.

"One of the hallmarks of high-EQ is the willingness and courage to face conflicts directly," Dr. Vinall tells Parade. "As we hone our ability to recognize, sit with and own painful feelings—including guilt—we grow our capacity to have honest conversations about difficult things with those in our lives. Self-awareness and empathy make repair possible."

On the other hand, emotional invalidation in friendships is toxic because it shuts people down.

"It communicates that their perspective, feelings and needs don't matter," Dr. Vinall says. "Feeling unseen and uncared for in this way erects barriers between people. Friendship cannot flourish without feeling cared for."

Certain phrases reek of emotional invalidation, especially one. For this reason, Dr. Vinall shares that you won't hear emotionally intelligent people use this one phrase with friends. She also reveals a few more phrases that these individuals avoid, along with tips for resolving conflicts with friends.

The 1 Phrase High-EQ People Avoid: "It's No Big Deal"

According to psychologist Dr. Vinall, "It's no big deal" is one of the phrases emotionally intelligent people avoid. Though often meant to diffuse a situation or comfort, it can cause emotional invalidation and minimize because it implies the friend is "wrong" for being upset.

The Psychology of Invalidation: Why We Say It (And Why It Hurts)

"It's no big deal" is emotionally invalidating yet so common. Dr. Vinall explains there's a psychological reason for invalidating phrases like this one, and it comes down to emotional intelligence.

"People use this phrase defensively, stemming from discomfort in sitting with and owning their own shortcomings," she tells Parade. "They may lack empathy and the ability to take another's perspective, projecting how they think they would feel onto the other person."

Yet, she points out that what may feel like a non-issue to one person may be significant for someone else, explaining, "People with low-EQ fail to recognize this disparity."

Emotional invalidation in friendships is toxic. Dr. Vinall shares that phrases like "It's no big deal" shut down the opportunity to repair the relationship.

"This response fails to take responsibility, which is the first crucial step for restoration," she says. "It shifts the focus from your behavior to making their reaction the problem. Most people, feeling shut down and unheard in this scenario, will withdraw."

She adds that saying "It's no big deal" won't change how they feel about the situation, but they may distance themselves from the friend who said it.

Harsh as it sounds, it makes sense. Unfortunately, Dr. Vinall says that emotional invalidation can have psychological harms, including:

"It is a form of gaslighting, which, as a pattern, is psychological abuse," she adds.

What an Emotionally Intelligent Friend Says Instead: 3 Examples

Unlike "It's no big deal," emotionally intelligent communication centers on empathy and validation. Here's what to say instead.

1. "I can see why that was hurtful"

Dr. Vinall says this phrase is the opposite response to "It's no big deal."

"Where 'It's not that big of a deal' invalidates, these words validate," she states. "It doesn't mean you intended harm, but it acknowledges that your friend was hurt. This creates the softness and connection essential for repair."

2. "I'm so sorry."

There's a period after "sorry." That's intentional.

"This response...isn't packaged with 'but I didn't mean it,'" Dr. Vinall says. "There are no excuses. It simply asks that you look your friend in the eyes and take responsibility."

3. "Tell me more."

This three-word response displays curiosity, a high EQ trait.

"These words demonstrate that you care by inviting your friend to draw you deeper into their inner world," Dr. Vinall notes. "You might not yet fully understand the rupture, but you are showing that you care enough to try."

6 Other Phrases That Signal Low Emotional Intelligence

People who display signs of low intelligence, such as a lack of empathy, often struggle to find the "right" thing to say in difficult moments. It's possible to become more emotionally intelligent, and awareness is key. Here are a few more things emotionally intelligent people never say, according to a psychologist.

1. "That's not what happened."

Recollections differ, but Dr. Vinall doesn't recommend using this phrase with a friend.

"Jumping to deny and counter your friend's experience rather than hearing the heart behind the complaint is invalidating and fails to move toward understanding or repair." she notes.

2. "That's your problem."

Friends are like teammates and, like they say, "Teamwork makes the dream work." So, it's no wonder that this particular phrase can be a nightmare for friendships. Dr. Vinall says it lacks empathy and shows no willingness even to try to understand the friend's gripe.

3. "You're making me so mad."

This finger-pointing phrase is also unhelpful, and it's inaccurate. Dr. Vinall shares that it shifts responsibility for the speaker's feelings. The reality?

"Only you are responsible for your emotional reactions," she says.

4. "I'm sorry you feel that way."

Emotionally intelligent people apologize. However, Dr. Vinall shares that this phrase is not an apology. It simply "masquerades behind the language of one."

"There is no accountability or responsibility taken to make change," she explains. "It sounds close to empathy but doesn't quite arrive at caring."

5. "I was just joking. You take everything too seriously."

Your kindergarten teacher is right—it's not a joke unless everyone is laughing. Dr. Vinall says that low-EQ phrases like this one invalidate another person and hide behind a (rarely true) excuse that's hard to argue with.

"Even if a sincere joke landed painfully, the responsibility remains with the person making the joke to assess for appropriateness and sensitivity, and take ownership if it results in hurt," she says.

6. "You make everything such a big deal."

Dr. Vinall shares that this phrase makes another (invalidating) shift, this time with the focus of "hearing a legitimate concern to attacking the person who was hurt."

"It is motivated by self-defense rather than care or communication," she notes.

How To Respond When a Friend Invalidates Your Feelings: 3 Ways

It can be disheartening to be on the receiving end of toxic friendship phrases. Emotional invalidation in friendships doesn't always have to be a game-changer. By engaging in emotionally intelligent communication, you can achieve conflict resolution with friends (and strengthen your bond).

Here are Dr. Vinall's top tips.

1. Use calm, assertive communication

If a friend tells you something is "no big deal," Dr. Vinall suggests responding with statements like, "This is a big deal to me. I'd like to talk about it."

"This direct, even-toned response to invalidation....maintains your right and need for open and direct communication," she explains. "Invalidation demands that you stand down; these words represent remaining standing."

2. Model empathy without backing down

Dr. Vinall says some phrases exemplify emotionally intelligent conversation after invalidation, such as, "I know this is hard for you to hear, but I think it's important we talk it through."

"This response demonstrates your own emotional awareness of the conversation's challenges and empathy toward the other person without retreating or accepting the invalidation," she tells Parade.

3. Name the behavior

Directness isn't always rude, especially if you say something like, "That feels really invalidating. I'd appreciate it if you could just listen to me right now."

"With people reacting out of discomfort rather than hostility, this gentle but firm naming may be enough to reset the conversation," Dr. Vinall notes.

Has America been escaping to the past? Can you blame us?

From the resurgence of vinyl to a renewed appetite for retro arcades and thrifted fashion, nostalgia has become big business across the U.S. — and recent data suggests some cities are leaning into the trend far more than others.

New research from Betway shows the American cities most gripped by that wonderful feeling of nostalgia right now, ranking the country's biggest urban landscapes on everything from record store counts to searches for "vintage clothing."

The study ranked 15 major U.S. cities on a weighted "nostalgia score" built from record store and arcade counts, retro diner ratings and vintage-clothing search data to produce a final score out of 100.

Were you able to guess No. 1? Los Angeles nabbed the top spot, believe it or not. Here are some key findings:

LA tops the table with the 240 vinyl record sellers and the highest overall weighted score.
New York City takes second place, generating more vintage-clothing searches than anywhere else in the country (48,350) but a lower per-capita rate keeps it just behind LA.
Chicago rounds out the podium in third, helped by a 4.6-star average rating for its retro diners and the second-highest vintage-clothing search volume in the study.
Minneapolis ranks 12th overall but posts the highest vintage clothing searches per capita (19,300) of any city on the list — a sign nostalgia runs deeper there than the headline ranking suggests.

'A Genuine Cultural Movement'

LA was also boosted by its 76 arcades, plus the sheer quantity of vintage-clothing searches that topped 21,800 — reflecting a fashion scene that continues to look backwards for inspiration as much as forwards.

"Los Angeles and New York City lead the way, but it's cities like Minneapolis that show nostalgia isn't just about the biggest metros — it's a genuine cultural movement in smaller markets too," said a Betway spokesperson in a statement.

’80s Alt-Rock Icon Says Band Reunion Tour Is ‘Not Going to Happen’

Around 15 years after calling it quits, one of alternative rock's most influential bands is making its stance clear about the possibility of a reunion tour.

R.E.M.'s longtime guitarist, Peter Buck, shared his thoughts on reunion tours in a revealing new interview. Speaking with Mojo magazine, he said, "When we decided it was the end, I felt fine with it... We reached the end of that road. And it was a great road and I’m really proud to have done that with everybody, but it just seemed like a really good time to walk away."

He also called out other classic rock bands who have undertaken reunion tours and performances, such as Oasis and Rush. Buck added, "Unlike every other band in the world other than The Smiths, we’re not going to be doing the famous album reunion tour or any of that crap."

"It’s just not going to happen," He concluded. Buck highlighted the great memories the band and fans have of their time together, before sharing another reason they don't have plans for a reunion.

"I just don’t want to be the legacy act at Glastonbury playing our 40-year-old hits," he said. "I don’t want to cheapen it by going out there just for ego and money. I don’t need the money, and my ego? Well, I’ve had enough applause to last 10 lifetimes.”

This is unfortunate news for R.E.M. fans who might've been hopeful for a reunion. Despite the band performing together in 2024 for their induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, there are no plans to tour again.

More recently, the band got back together for a surprise, and likely one-time-only, performance in February 2025 in Georgia. They performed with Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy, who were touring their R.E.M. tribute project.

There's always a chance that the members of R.E.M. will change their minds one day and return to the stage together. But for now, fans shouldn't have any expectations.

The popular 2000s metal band announced on Instagram on Tuesday morning that they will be embarking on their Reminders of Hell Tour, which is set to kick off on Nov. 6 in Riverside, California nad conclude in Los Angeles on Dec. 13. Suicide Silence is set to make stops in various cities across the North America; including Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Orlando, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, Montreal, Toronto, Cleveland, Detriot, Chicago, Denver, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Portland and more. Opening acts will include EMMURE, AngelMaker and Synestia.

Established in Riverside, California in 2002, Suicide Silence started as a side project made up of musicians from other bands. They released their first demo, Death Awaits, in 2003, and since then, members started committing more time to the band and recruiting other members.

Throughout multiple lineup changes and 24 years as a band, Suicide Silence has released seven studio albums, with their most recent project being Remember... You Must Die in 2023. Their current lineup consists of Chris Garza, Mark Heylmun, Dan Kenny, Hernan "Eddie" Hermida and Ernie Iniguez.

Suicide Silence wrapped up a European tour earlier this year, but they seem super excited to head back on the road around North America. Lucker expressed to V13 Media how much he loves what he and his band do for a living.

Rashida Jones Reveals the One Joke That 'Still Hurts' From 'Parks and Recreation'

As with almost every sitcom, Parks and Recreation has occasionally incorporated jokes that may or may not land among some of the show's cast members.

In the case of prominent star Rashida Jones, for examples, such a joke took the form of a seemingly purposeful dig at her personal connection to the music industry.

As Jones revealed during a 2025 appearance on Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast, Parks and Rec's writers specifically included a joke in the episode, "Sweet Sixteen," that referenced the star's background in R and B.

In said episode, Jones' character admits to not having heard of the Grammy nominee, Ginuwine, leading Tom to remark that "not loving '90s R and B" is number three on his "Oh no no list."

Discussing the scene on the podcast, Poehler asked Jones whether Jones had to pull out some impressive acting abilities to truly sell the joke.

“It’s still one of my biggest complaints,” Jones said of the scene.

As many fans of the show and/or Jones might recall, the actress is the daughter of famed R and B star Quincy Jones, best known for his seven decade career in the genre and for winning a grand total of 28 Grammy Awards in the music industry.

Above all things, Jones' biggest complaint regarding the joke had to do with her personal love for '90s R and B, with Genuwine himself remaining one of her personal idols and favorite musicians.

“I remember we did the table read for that,” she continued, “and I was like, ‘No, no. No one’s going to buy it, because I don’t buy it. Pick anybody else on this cast to try and play that in an honest way. It is so unfair that you’re making me do this.’ It still hurts. It really hurts.”

“Although it arrived later in the decade, ‘Sweet Freedom’ represents the yacht-rock spirit at its peak,” SiriusXM shared. “McDonald’s soulful delivery and the song’s glossy production make it an enduring favorite.”

Sure, McDonald’s hit track was released outside what is generally considered yacht rock’s classic late-'70s to early '80s era, but sometimes a song just has that smooth, breezy aesthetic and demands to be included. “Sweet Freedom” is one of those songs.

Brilliantly bridging the gap between classic smooth soul and the increasingly polished electronic productions that were on the rise in the mid-’80s, “Sweet Freedom” came to McDonald via English songwriter Rod Temperton, whose resume includes Michael Jacksonclassics like “Thriller” and “Rock With You.”

McDonald, who left The Doobie Brothers in 1982 to pursue a solo career, saw immediate success with his debut solo album,If That’s What It Takes, which featured the single “I Keep Forgettin’ (Every Time You’re Near),” a Top 5 hit in 1982.

But according to American Songwriter, he struggled to stay at the top. It wasn’t until Temperton hit him up that he found the comeback song he needed.

When Temperton was recruited to write and curate the soundtrack for Running Scared, a buddy-cop comedy starring Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines set in Key West and Chicago, he knew exactly who he wanted for the tropical-sounding lead single.

The Grammy-nominated "Sweet Freedom" became McDonald’s third-highest-charting solo single, peaking at No. 7 that August and enjoying 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. His 1986 duet with Patti LaBelle, “On My Own,” which hit No. 1 for three weeks, and his 1982 classic “I Keep Forgettin’ (Every Time You’re Near),” which peaked at No. 4, are the only tracks to perform better.

In the film, "Sweet Freedom" soundtracks what has become one of the greatest movie montages of the 1980s, with the two funnymen zooming around Florida on mopeds, roller-skating, and hitting on women in skimpy swimwear.

Meanwhile, on the small screen, the music video featured Crystal and Hines flexing their comedic chops behind McDonald as he delivered the lyrics supported by drum machines, electronic grooves, and brass accents.

For a yacht rock anthem that technically missed the boat party, “Sweet Freedom” has aged remarkably well. And clearly, it’s still one of those songs fans turn up the dial on when the weather warms up and the windows roll down.

In fact, there are a few vegan desserts at Trader Joe's that are so popular and tasty, that many customers probably don't even realize they're vegan!

One of my favorite desserts at TJ's is the Organic Jumbo Cinnamon Rolls. The dough for these accidentally-vegan cinnamon rolls comes in one of those cardboard cans that twist and pop, and then they bake up easily in the oven. (Yes, your home will smell amazing when these are baking.)

For those who prefer things sour rather than sweet, Trader Joe's is known for its Super Sour Scandinavian Swimmers, which is the store's version of Swedish Fish.

But my No. 1 vegan dessert at Trader Joe's isn't just one product—it's actually a combination of three of the grocery chain's most iconic products. Although the Brownie Truffle Baking Mix suggests using butter and eggs, on its own, the mix is completely vegan! When I make these, instead of using cow's butter, I always opt for vegan butter (which you can find at Trader Joe's). And instead of using two eggs, I simply use a half cup of unsweetened applesauce, pumpkin puree or aquafaba—and my brownies turn out perfectly rich and chocolately every time.

These Hold the Dairy! Vegan Chocolate Mini Cones are adorable teeny-tiny ice cream cones with chocolate coconut ice cream already scooped on top. Don't blame me if you accidentally eat six of them in one sitting.

4. Dark Chocolate Sunflower Seed Butter Cups

When I went vegan, I thought I'd miss Reese's—but I quickly discovered that dark chocolate nut butter cups are so much richer and tastier than ones made with milk chocolate. And even though peanut butter is the ultimate nut butter, I've got to give it up for sunflower butter, which is what's in the center of the luscious Dark Chocolate Sunflower Seed Butter Cups from Trader Joe's.

Not only are these rich and tasty, but they are also allergy-friendly, as they're free of dairy, gluten, soy and nuts. Plus, they're made with fair-trade chocolate.

3. Oat Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert Sandwiches

As a kid, ice cream sandwiches were one of my favorite treats to sneak out of the freezer. Fortunately, the Oat Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert Sandwiches from Trader Joe's taste exactly like the ones from my childhood—but without the dairy! There's nothing like one of these on a warm summer night.

1. S'mores Made With Speculoos Cookies, Pound Plus Dark Chocolate Bar and Marshmallows

My No. 1 vegan dessert from Trader Joe's is a combination of three A+ products, which work in tandem to create life-changing vegan s'mores: the Marshmallows, Pound Plus Dark Chocolate Bar and Speculoos Cookies.

Conventional marshmallows often aren't vegan because they contain gelatin, but the ones at Trader Joe's are naturally vegan, as well as wonderfully sweet and fluffy. The Pound Plus Dark Chocolate Bar is imported from Belgium and flawless in a s'more (and yes, it also comes in a smaller size).

And finally, the European Speculoos Cookies work perfectly in lieu of graham crackers. I've made s'mores over a campfire with this exact combination of ingredients multiple times this summer, and I can personally to them coming together to form 10/10 s'mores.

Departing Saturday Night Live star Chloe Fineman is providing more detail into her decision to leave the series after seven years on the show.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 38-year-old Fineman said she was ready to call it quits at SNL following the end of its 51st season on NBC. According to the comedian, another major catalyst for leaving was a project that caught her attention, leading her to begin exploring more opportunities outside of SNL.

“Seven years is kind of like the classic way [at SNL], and then like right as my contract was up, this amazing David E. Kelley opportunity came in like completely out of the blue," Fineman said. "I did a little chemistry read and it was off to the races; it just felt like a perfect time.”

“I’m really proud of everything, but it’s hard," Fineman continued. I’m genuinely really good friends with everybody, and I genuinely couldn’t love that job more. So it’s really bittersweet, but I’m gonna be in New York. I’m down the street. Maybe you’ll see me.”

Fineman went on to reveal that multiple cast members from the show have reached out to share their best wishes, specifically because of her recent birthday.

“Everyone’s like really reaching out. It’s the sweetest show. It’s a hard show, but the people — it’s because of hours and everything," she continued. But like it really is a family, and I’ve been crying like sweet tears.”

More recently, Fineman has been hard at work on Apple TV's The Dink, a new sports comedy series starring Ben Stiller, Jake Johnson, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris and Aaron Chen.

She also expressed her personal excitement at being able to watch SNL as an ordinary viewer again, as opposed to a cast member. "I’m really excited to like watch SNL as an audience member [in person], which I’ve never done," she said.

’70s Punk Rock Icon Postpones Tour 50 Years Into Career After Serious Injury

A veteran punk rock icon has postponed his national Australian 2026 tour after suffering a bad ankle break.

Ed Kuepper, the musician most well-known for co-founding the pioneering punk band The Saints in the 1970s, wrote to his fans on Instagram to share the unexpected news. He said, "Friends, due to the badly broken ankle of yours truly we have been forced to move our Exploding Universe tour back a few weeks."

The post included a tour poster with the new dates. The tour will now start on Oct. 29 and continue across Australia through Nov. 15. Some of the stops include Sydney, Brisbane, and Canberra.

He noted in the update that tickets fans already purchased will be valid for the new dates. But unfortunately, a couple of stops couldn't be rescheduled.

Kuepper wrote, "With the time allowed we could not find new dates for Coffs Harbour or Murwillumbah and we will aim to get back there in 2027." The venue for the Sydney show was also changed.

"Sorry for any inconvenience. Hope to see you all in the warmer months," the musician concluded.

Kuepper's upcoming releases were not affected by the situation. This includes The Exploding Universe – Live, a 10-track album recorded at the National Theatre Melbourne during his 2023 tour. It will drop on July 24.

Fellow musician Garry Gray of the band Sacred Cowboys praised the performance, saying, "The show is Killer from start to finish, Ed’s sharp sense of humor making it sparkle... All these songs sound vibrant and alive with the purity of the album sound as a part of the deal."

Past albums Today Wonder and Autocannibalism are also being rereleased soon. The latter record was originally released in the early 1990s under the name of one of Kuepper's bands, The Aints.

Along with The Saints, The Aints, and his solo work, Kuepper has also performed as a member of Laughing Clowns and The Apartments. He also toured with Nick Cave in the 2010s.

2003 Film, Inspired by a Manga, Was Just Crowned the Best Action Thriller of the 21st Century

Movie fans who enjoy being encapsulated by excitement and stress tend to have a deep appreciation for action thriller films. In this genre, films depict both emotional and physical violence, often with plenty of practical effects.

The publication Colliderrecently shared a list of "the 6 best action thrillers released since 2000." The ranking, published on July 21, included films like 2008's The Dark Knight, One Battle After Another from 2025, and Children of Men, released in 2006. According to Collider, the top action thriller released after 2000 is 2003's Oldboy, inspired by Marley Caribou and Nobuaki Minegishi's 1990s manga.

Collider complimented the film's director Park Chan-wook for his purposeful use of violence as the audience watches a vengeance-focused Oh Dae-su (Choi Min-sik). In a 2003 interview about Oldboy, Chan-wook explained his reasoning behind depicting violence on-screen. He said he used "unsettling images" because he wanted fans of his films to feel the gravity of the situation.

"I try to express on-screen violence as not something that is beautiful to look at, or playful or fun or something that relieves stress. I try to convey a feeling, both pain between the tormentor and the victim, to the audience," said the South Korean filmmaker, now 62.

Chan-wook also explained why he has a proclivity for vengeance films. He said he believes societal expectations have made many individuals mask their anger, meaning movies about revenge allow a glimpse into the hidden "dark side of our minds."

"The vengeance story is so dramatic and attractive. I guess people are being more educated, and people have developed a way to vent one's anger, it has become a social taboo. But, although it has become a taboo, it doesn't mean its angry self has disappeared completely," said the director during the interview. "I think people live in a state where the anger still exists, but the exit has been blocked by education and the development of society, so the exit has been blocked so the inner anger is growing within his or herself. That's the reason why I make such films and that's why I think the audience is there to watch these kinds of films."
