Jennifer Aniston doesn't often speak publicly about Brad Pitt, especially 20 years after their split. But now, she’s decided to reminisce.

Aniston reunited with former Friends costarLisa Kudrow for Variety's Actors on Actors series, where the pair looked back on some of the sitcom's most memorable moments. Naturally, the conversation eventually turned to some legendary guest stars, including Pitt, who made a memorable appearance during the show's eighth season while he and Aniston, 57, were married.

"Those were great, the Thanksgiving episodes," Kudrow, 62, told Aniston. "When Brad was on, that was hilarious."

"I know," Aniston replied. "How funny."

The brief exchange led to a larger conversation about the many Hollywood stars who stopped by the sitcom over its 10-season run. "Brad, Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts, Isabella Rossellini," Aniston recalled. "We had so many—Sean Penn."

Despite their impressive résumés, Aniston revealed that many of the guest stars were surprisingly anxious before stepping onto the Friends set. "I always found it fascinating how nervous they were," she said.

Kudrow suggested part of the challenge was adapting to the show's unique style and rhythm, something even seasoned film actors weren't always prepared for. Recalling advice they once gave guest stars, Kudrow joked, "Oh, just talk louder."

Pitt famously appeared in the 2001 Thanksgiving episode "The One with the Rumor," playing Will Colbert, a former classmate who harbored an intense dislike for Aniston’s character Rachel Green. 

The interview also sparked excitement about a possible future collaboration between Aniston and Kudrow. When asked about working together again, Kudrow enthusiastically said, “I would love to do another one, if anyone wrote a good one. Let’s do it. You heard it here!”

Aniston was equally on board, responding, “Girlfriends. Let’s pitch it. Let’s workshop it in front of all of these wonderful people.”

Alice Cooper's guitarist Nita Strauss shared some exciting and important news on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old musician revealed that she welcomed her first baby, Maxwell James Villalta, with her husband, Josh Villalta, who is also a musician, last Thursday. Strauss shared the news withPeople, as well as posted photos of her new family of three on Instagram.

"He came into this world surrounded by so much love and he’ll be loved even more with every passing day. Max is already so special and we truly believe he’s destined for greatness," Strauss wrote in her caption. "With a little bit of both of us in him, whatever path he chooses, he’ll make his mark on the world and be a force to be reckoned with. We can’t wait to watch him grow into the man he’s meant to become, but for now we will cherish every moment along the way."

In 2023, Strauss and Villalta got engaged after dating for more than 11 years. Villalta, who also serves as her manager, met her in 2011 through mutual friends in the driveway of the Rainbow Bar and Grill in the West Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles. The couple officially tied the knot on May 4, 2024, and revealed that she was pregnant earlier this year.

Though Strauss said that giving birth was "the hardest thing [she 's] ever done," the musician told People that having her son was also "the most primal thing" she has ever experienced.

"I've always heard people say ‘You don't know true love until they put your baby on your chest for the first time,' but I never fully understood it until it happened to me!" she told the magazine. "It was as if the rest of the world melted away and we were in a vortex bringing a new life into this world."

Meanwhile, Villalta describes the day before Max arrived as "magical" and that "time stood still" while the new parents shared their anticipation of meeting their son.

"I stayed by her side every second of the day, holding her hand and encouraging her as she endured labor," Villalta said. "The wave of uncontrollable emotions that followed over the next few days are impossible to put into words. As beautiful as it was welcoming our son into the world, it was equally beautiful watching Nita transition from my wife into a mother. Seeing that transformation and the unconditional love awakened for Max is something I'll never forget. The pure, positive and loving energy he brings into our lives has filled our hearts in a way we never thought possible. We are truly blessed."

Strauss began her music career as a teenager, when she started her own band called Lia-Fail. In 2014, she became the in-house guitarist for the LA Kiss, an arena football team, where she played the national anthem and provided additional music during games with the house band.

By the summer of 2014, Strauss replaced Orianthi as Alice Cooper's touring guitarist and stayed with the rock band until July 2022. She eventually came back in March 2023 and has remained in the group since. In between her stints with Alice Cooper, Strauss joined Demi Lovato's band as a guitarist during her Holy Fvck Tour.

Elijah Wood is speaking out against the new QR code ordering system at Alamo Drafthouse.

According to the movie theater chain’s website, they replaced their previous pen and paper food ordering system with a QR code in January.

The Lord of the Rings star took to X to express his dislike of this change.

“For the first time yesterday, I experienced the new @alamodrafthouse QR code ordering system and I can tell you it’s truly awful,” he wrote.

The updated process requires visitors to use their phones during the movie.

Wood continued, “Rather than making ordering food and drink more efficient, it actually adds steps to the process AND if you want to order additional items during the film you HAVE to open your phone. No, your cute reference to that irony in your How To Alamo video doesn’t negate how ridiculous this is. Please don’t cut corners with your staff and revert back to physical menus and order cards.”

He isn’t the only one upset with the movie theater’s new way of ordering.

Earlier this year, unionized employees at the Alamo Drafthouse in Sloans Lake, Colorado, went on strike because of the new system.

“The QR system isn’t optional, it’s being forced on every guest,” KatieHansen of the Sloans Lake bargaining committee told TheWrap. “This creates a worse experience for customers and makes our jobs harder, not easier. I have guests that I have served for 12 years saying they won’t come back again.”

The movie theater maintains that this change is an improvement.

Their website states, “This will reduce distractions (goodbye check drop during the climax) and, in the long term, make the experience even better. Putting ordering control directly in our guests’ hands allows us to move faster and more efficiently, creating a smoother, more responsive experience without added distraction.”

Paul Thomas Anderson’s modern masterpiece Boogie Nights is brimming with incredible needle drops. From the opening scene’s “Best of My Love” and New Year’s Eve’s “Do Your Thing,” to the climactic con’s “Sister Christian” and the ending’s “God Only Knows,” there are more musical hits than not-safe-for-work activity, which is saying a lot about a film centered on the adult film industry.

Released in 1997, the film is set in the late ’70s when adult entertainment was enjoying a bit of a golden age. And, sure, it’s easy to chalk it up to lowbrow smut, but actually, the auteur’s touchstone is a character-driven story about a group of misfit toys searching for love and acceptance. It just so happens that their “found family” dwells in the porn industry.  

Starring Mark Wahlberg as rising star Dirk Diggler, the cast also includes Burt Reynolds, Don Cheadle, Luis Guzman, John C. Reilly, Heather Graham, and Julianne Moore. Moore plays Amber Waves (screen name), a stalwart and matriarch type in the biz whose subplot involves a struggle with addiction and a failed custody battle. The reason we digress here is because Amber’s drama is given the spotlight in one of the greatest rock ’n’ roll movie moments, according to Rolling Stone. 

Midway through the film, Andrew Gold’s “Lonely Boy” underscores a hazy pool sequence in which Guzman’s character answers a phone call then wanders the party in search of a “Maggie.” Cut to Moore’s Amber, who has just attacked a pile of powder. The song, with its upbeat melody, is a brilliant choice to contrast the tragedy unfolding, and the Oedipal dynamic forming between Dirk and Amber.

“One of the most unbelievably sad moments ever captured on film, as P.T. Anderson takes a harmless bit of Seventies soft-rock fluff and turns it into a heartbreaking requiem for basically everybody in the movie, if not America in general,” RS writes. “You realize how completely doomed all these party people are, and how savagely they are going to break the hearts of everybody they ever touch. Oh, what a lonely boy.”

Released in March 1977 in the U.S., the song was included on Gold’s second studio album, What’s Wrong With This Picture? In an interview, per American Songwriter, Gold shared that the song took him only about four hours to write: “It was gonna be a real long song, because back then that’s what people were doing a lot. They would cut it down for radio. But I got bored after the third verse.”

The short and long of it is this: The single was a hit. Peaking at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, the pop-rock classic saw a revival when Boogie Nights reached the big screen, with the film’s soundtrack cracking into the Billboard 200 and landing on best-of lists all over the interwebs. Not bad for an old “boring” song about a lonely boy.

Popular songs have some of the weirdest backstories to how they came to get their titles or overall inspiration. Foreigner released a hard rock track in 1978 that came about while vocalist Lou Gramm was watching a hockey game, and it would become one of their biggest hits at No. 2.

"Double Vision" had become one of Foreigner's staple tracks for their live setlists ever since its release in 1978. The song would ultimately land the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with critics calling it a "double-whammy" with its powerful guitar and leading vocals.

When first seeing the title of the song "Double Vision," fans would instantly think the song is about the eye condition that occurs when being high or intoxicated. They're not 100% wrong. According to The New York Times, Gramm revealed the true story behind the track, and it has nothing to do with being drunk.

In the fall of 1977, the band was in New York working away in the studio for their upcoming self-titled album. They had already developed the track and were excited, but they didn't have a hook or name for it.

“It was quite frustrating,” Gramm said. “I could not find the words or a phrase that would culminate what I was singing about in the verses. I wasn’t even wrestling with words, really. I was just drawing a blank.”

What was the spark of inspiration? A hockey game. Grimm was an avid fan of the sport and was friends with members of the New York Rangers. While in the studio, Gramm had a small TV inside the booth broadcasting a Rangers game, and then inspiration hit when a fight broke out.

“I was inside my vocal booth, this little two-by-three cubby hole,” said Gramm. “They put you in a soundproof booth so that the music of the band doesn’t leak into your vocal tracks. I had a little eight-inch TV taped to the upper left-hand corner of this little booth, and I would turn it on ever-so-quietly so I could watch the Rangers between my takes."

“John Davidson came out of the net to play a puck and one of the other (opposing) guys conked him. He went down hard. There was a fight, and a couple of the (Rangers) stood around (Davidson) to protect him while he was down. I remember the trainers came out to help him to the bench so he could get checked out.”

Whether or not Davidson was out of the game was up to him at the time, with Gramm hearing the commentators talking about his condition after the incident. Commentator Bill Chadwick said the words "double vision," and the rest was history. Instead of singing, Gramm immediately began writing down lyrics, and they "started flowing like water."

The legendary '80s glam metal band Twisted Sister has revealed its first 2026 tour dates, marking the group's return to the stage with former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach taking over lead vocal duties following Dee Snider's departure from live performance.

The newly announced shows will take place across the United States and Canada this fall, giving fans their first opportunity to see the iconic rock band perform since its farewell tour concluded in 2016.

According to the band's announcement, Sebastian Bach will front Twisted Sister for a select run of dates while continuing his solo career. The current lineup includes longtime members Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda, along with bassist Russell Pzütto and drummer Joey Cassata.

The tour announcement follows a turbulent year for the band. Twisted Sister originally planned a worldwide 50th-anniversary reunion tour for 2026 after announcing its comeback in September 2025. 

However, those plans were canceled earlier this year after frontman Dee Snider stepped away from performing full concerts due to health concerns.

The announcement also included a preview of a new version of Twisted Sister's 1983 track "You Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll" featuring Bach on vocals.

The newly added Salem and Puyallup performances expand on the previously announced North American run and signal that more appearances could follow.

Twisted Sister first formed in the early 1970s and became one of the defining acts of the 1980s glam metal movement. The band achieved worldwide fame with hits including "We're Not Gonna Take It," "I Wanna Rock" and "You Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll."

The group's colorful image, theatrical stage presence and rebellious anthems helped make them one of the most recognizable rock bands of their era.

In September 2025, Twisted Sister announced plans to reunite for a 50th-anniversary celebration after maintaining a no-reunion stance following its 2016 farewell tour. The original reunion lineup was expected to feature Snider alongside French and Ojeda.

Bach, best known for his years as the frontman of Skid Row, has long shared connections with the band. He previously appeared on tribute projects involving Twisted Sister and recently performed alongside Eddie Ojeda during a solo concert, giving fans an early glimpse of the collaboration.

Now, with six dates officially scheduled and tickets on sale, Twisted Sister is once again preparing to bring its classic songs to audiences across North America.

One issue that people tend to complain about with cruise ships' private islands is the feeling of the beach getting too crowded. Carnival did everything they could do to avoid that issue from happening–so much so that they expanded the island to have five distinct beach areas to choose from for your visit. Each area feels like its own unique beach, with different colored umbrellas that mark one area from the next.

Along each beach, there are rows and rows of beach loungers that have umbrellas to cover two chairs at a time. Previously, Carnival charged extra for people to use an umbrella on Half Moon Cay, but now, they are pre-set up all along the island. If you don’t want any shade, you can easily close the umbrella that you’re under.

On my visit to RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, I didn’t feel like the beach was crowded in any way. I sailed on the Carnival Sunrise, which holds over 3,000 passengers. There were times when I was relaxing on the beach and didn’t even see another passenger in my direct sightline. There is so much space on the island, which allows everyone to scatter equally.

With so many different areas to explore on the island, you’re probably wondering how easy it is to get around. Carnival has created an efficient tram system that makes getting from area to area as seamless as can be. It actually reminded me of the tram and bus system at Disney World, which I’ve always appreciated for its quick and easy service.

On the island, you can look at a map that lays out each area of the island for you. You can choose a beach that has one of the food halls, one that has a volleyball court, one that offers more luxurious loungers or cabanas to rent or one that is further away and less likely to have a lot of kids.

At the entrance of the island, the tram station makes it easy to stand at a spot that will bring you to your chosen destination. When you’re done for the day, you just head back to the area where the tram dropped you off, and a crew member will assist in getting you back on a tram that’ll take you to the island’s exit.

The Food Scene Is Way Better Than You’d Expect

In my experience with cruise ship’s private islands, I’ve always found that the food can be quite boring. It’s usually a mixture of burgers, hot dogs, french fries, corn on the cob and other classic “beach grill” type food. While I have nothing against those options, it does get old after a while.

The ultimate lunchtime upgrade—the spacious new food hall offers a breezy, shaded spot to fuel up between swims.

I was completely blown away by the food options at RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay. There are two beach grills on site, one at the Mango Tram Stop, which is called Orchid Beach Grill & Bar. Then, at the Guava Tram Stop, you can visit the Hibiscus Beach Grill. Both are virtually the same, they are just located at different spots on the island. If you choose one of the beaches that doesn’t have a grill, it’s very easy to walk to them or take a tram over.

Now, for the food itself: there are a ton of options that stretch beyond the usual beach grill food. There is also a salad bar, a dessert station, a spot for island favorites and lastly, a nacho bar. The nacho bar was where I really dug in–and let me tell you, it was exceptional. There truly is nothing like enjoying a plate of nachos on the beach, and these specific ones were perfect. You can choose between different types of meats, beans, rice, queso, shredded cheese and other fresh toppings as well. I went for a classic pulled pork nacho with queso and salsa on top, and it truly hit the spot.

A New Pier Eliminates The Tender Process A beautiful sight for cruisers. The new dock setup means quicker embarkation so you can spend more time enjoying the Bahamas.

As someone who lived onboard cruise ships for five years as an entertainer, I can tell you that having to take a tender boat to a port of call is one of the most inconvenient things. Sometimes there can be long lines to catch one of these boats, it takes extra time to get off the ship, and you have to plan ahead to make sure you catch a tender back onboard.

Carnival has built a brand new pier at Half Moon Cay, and it truly enhances the island experience for everyone involved. All you have to do is simply exit the ship, and then you walk across a bridge that brings you to the main entrance of the island. Another great thing about this pier is that now the Excel Class Ships (the Mardi Gras, Celebration and Jubilee) will be able to visit Half Moon Cay. Previously, the ships were too large to visit the island. With the new pier built, they will be able to dock and visit the island for the very first time.

Sir Paul McCartneyhas been EVERYWHERE recently.

The 83 year old rock legend has been on a massive press run recently promoting his much anticipated album, "The Boys of Dungeon Lane," which released on May 29th. The press run has seen McCartney all over the place, including SNL, The Late Show, various online interviews, and now a spot on the Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music.

In a brand new clip from his interview on the show, McCartney was taking some heated (and not very serious) shots at legendary musician and producer Brian Eno.

For those uninitiated, Eno is one of the most influential producers and musicians in music. I first became acquainted with Eno with his work on David Bowie's album "Low," which features some incredibly ahead of its time material that spawned post-rock. It was during these sessions that Eno would create one of his most important albums, "Ambient 1: Music for Airports," wherein he coined the term "ambient music," and pioneered the genre.

His impact on electronic music is similar to McCartney's impact on rock and pop. He is a titan of music in his own regard, which is what makes this playful scuffle so amusing.

McCartney takes shots at Eno for seemingly "stealing" a lot McCartney's ideas and points about music. "He's taking all my lines!" McCartney exclaimed at the end of the video after a series of clips of the two sharing the same statements on their shared industry.

"This is the beef nobody expected," remarks Lowe in the interview. Of course, it was all in good fun, and even if it wasn't, it's Paul McCartney. Are you going to tell him he's wrong? I don't think so.

Fans had a laugh about the interview in the comments, each enjoying McCartney's sense of humor, and throwing Eno his flowers.

"Definitely the best interview during this album promotion period."

"All your favorite Talking Heads, U2 and who knows who else's albums were produced by Brian Eno."

MirandaLambert gave her new friend and collaborator, EllaLangley, some great advice.

As Langley has been thrown into the spotlight by her recent country music hits, including "Choosin' Texas" and "You Look Like You Love Me," she found herself with a few questions for the “Gunpowder and Lead” singer. Lambert spoke to Billboard about their relationship in a recent cover story interview.

The country music icon told the outlet, she’s “really just kind of a hype girl” for Langley. "I’m either talking her off a ledge or hyping her up, because she knows exactly what she wants."

Adding, "We’re girls; we talk each other off the ledge all the time."

After the duo wrote the country hit "Choosin' Texas" together, Langley didn’t know how to react.

The 42-year-old told her she hasn’t "seen anything like it" in her career. "So when Ella calls and is like, ‘What does this mean?’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know. You might need to call TaylorSwift right now [and ask her], because this is, like, that kind of big,'" Lambert said.

"Choosin' Texas" became Langley's first single to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was released in October 2025 on her album Dandelion.

The album held a first for Lambert as well.

"I’ve never had a record in the world that I was just a co-producer, not the artist — so Dandelion has been a pretty cool feeling," the “Kerosene” singer said. "I was texting Jon Randall, my best friend and co-producer, like, ‘I’ve never known the feeling that this is before, just having a beautiful masterpiece in the world that I got to have a hand in doing that doesn’t say my name on the front.’ It’s really a crazy feeling and I love it."

Lambert is glad to help Langley navigate country music fame. 

“What I’ve done is try to use the knowledge that I've gained by being in the industry for over 20 years to really lift up the younger generations coming up and trying to be there for them and answer questions," she shared. "Sometimes I know the right way to do it, because I did it wrong."

In the summer of 1978, disco had a chokehold on the airwaves, but every once in a while, the lush, euphoric sounds of The Bee Gees, Chic, and Donna Summer would give way to rock bands like Boston, Foreigner, and Fleetwood Mac.

At the time, Fleetwood Mac were operating at peak influence, so much so that their orbit extended beyond their own chart dominance, quietly helping shape songs that would become signature hits for other artists. One of those songs is “Magnet and Steel,” written and performed by Walter Egan, with contributions from Stevie Nicks and LindsayBuckingham.  

Released in March 1978, the song became a summer smash powered by its breezy, sun-drenched, Southern California sound, ’50s-style stroll rhythm, and romantic love-letter lyrics. In a chat with Songfacts, Egan said that the song took shape almost instantly when he came to realize he had a massive crush on Nicks.

Living in Pomona, he set out to write a track with the stroll beat made famous by Chuck Willis. While collaborating with Nicks one night, he said he became “smitten by the kitten” and on his drive home a “metal-flake-blue Continental with ground effects and a diamond window in the back” further inspired his song’s lyrics. He even borrowed the title for his second album from the cruiser’s license plate, which read, “Not Shy.”

“By the time I pulled into my driveway I had formulated the lyrics and come up with the magnet metaphor,” he said. “From there the song was finished in 15 minutes.” When he recorded the track, Nicks sang backup, which Egan called fitting, as the song “was about her (and me).”

“Magnet and Steel” marked Egan’s only Top 40 chart entry. And even though he also wrote Night's first hit, "Hot Summer Nights," which reached No. 18, “Magnet” has been called one of the greatest one-hit wonders in music history. Whether it deserves the OHW title is up to listeners. By the time the album hit shelves that May, the song had already become the soundtrack of summer.

“‘Magnet and Steel’ became one of those songs that you heard every time you turned on the radio in the Summer of 1978,” Classic Rock History writes. “Most people never got tired of it. Hearing Stevie Nicks sing her beautiful enchanted backup vocals on the song only made listening to the recording more addicting. For those who grew up hearing that song in 1978, it only takes one listen to bring you back to the sweet feelings of summer and the days of our youth.”

Today, Egan continues to perform his signature song, along with all his other radio staples. In fact, he's appearing at the Yacht Rock the Dock two-day event in Detroit next month. Details can be found on his website, should be drawn to the rising subgenre like a magnet to steel.

Keanu Reeves is letting his hair go gray, and the look is certainly working for him.

Reeves, 61, is known for iconic films ranging from Point Break to The Matrix. While his movie career has been long and successful, he's also had a lengthy tenure as a musician. A member of the alternative band Dogstar since the '90s, Reeves is setting out on tour with the band and his bass.

 On Tuesday, Reeves spoke onstage at The Drop: Dogstar at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles, California, and showed off his salt-and-pepper hair that matched his graying beard. The band's new album, All In Now, was released on May 29.

Reeves is in a relationship with artist Alexandra Grant, 53. An acclaimed visual artist who does everything from painting and drawing to sculpture and video, Reeves and Grant started dating around 2019. Celebrating Milestones Together

The couple has now been together for going on seven years, and they have celebrated a variety of milestones together. Just a few years ago, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner were in the midst of a divorce, engaged in a he-said/she-said over their kids and what went wrong.

How They Became 'Family' Again

The former couple has proven that, thanks to their daughters, Willa and Delphine, they'll always be family and have found a way to become friends after their difficult divorce. When Jonas released his new album, Music for People Who Believe in Love, in May 2025, Turner shared a link on her Instagram stories with the caption "Go go @joejonas." Two months later, Delphine turned 5. Instead of having separate parties, they celebrated together at Jonas's Miami condo.

When Jonas appeared on Jay Shetty's On Purpose Live Tour, an audience member recorded him sweetly commending Turner.

“They have an incredible mom," Jonas said. "I have a beautiful co-parenting relationship that I'm really grateful for. And I think first and foremost, having an incredible mom, Sophie, for those girls is like a dream come true." Love 'em or leave 'em (sitting untouched on the edge of your plate), capers tend to spark strong opinions from people. These tiny green buds show up in everything from chicken piccata and pasta puttanesca to smoked salmon platters and salad dressings, bringing a burst of salty, tangy flavor wherever they go. But despite being a staple in Mediterranean cooking, capers remain one of the grocery store's most misunderstood ingredients, leaving many to wonder, "What are capers, exactly?"

Are they olives? A vegetable? Some kind of seed? And why do they taste so distinctive? According to the experts, capers are much more interesting than most shoppers realize.

To get the scoop, I spoke with several culinary pros, including award-winning Chef Massimo Vicidomini of RPM Italian in Washington, D.C. Vicidomini's culinary career includes helping L'Olivo (in Capri, Italy) earn a Michelin star, and he says capers are one of those ingredients that can completely transform a dish when used correctly.

Whether you've been cooking with capers for years or you're staring at the dusty jar in the back of your pantry wondering what to do with it, here's everything you need to know about what capers taste like, where they come from and how to use them.

What Are Capers, Exactly?

"Capers are the unopened flower buds of the caper bush, a Mediterranean plant that grows beautifully in rocky coastal climates," says Vicidomini. "The buds are picked and then preserved in salt or brine, which gives them their signature bright, savory flavor."

Andrew Ashmore, chef-partner of Beatrix and Antico Posto in Illinois, adds that capers are typically harvested by hand before they bloom and are also sun-dried before curing or pickling in brine.

Are Capers Baby Olives?

One word: No. Despite their similar appearance and briny flavor, capers are not baby olives.

Chef Katarina Petonito of The Duck & The Peach, La Collina and The Wells tells Parade that the confusion is understandable because both ingredients are processed in similar ways and often appear in the same Mediterranean dishes. However, olives are fruits that grow on olive trees, while capers are flower buds harvested from the caper bush.

What Plant Are Capers From?

"They come from the caper bush, called Capparis spinosa," says Kevin O'Donnell, chef-owner of Giusto and Mother Pizzeria in Newport, RI. The hardy plant grows throughout the Mediterranean region and is known for thriving in rocky, dry conditions where many other plants struggle.

What Do Capers Taste Like?

Mark Wilkins, director of grocery for Sprouts Farmers Market, describes capers as having a bright, tangy and slightly citrus flavor with a savory finish that adds a fresh pop to rich foods. Vicidomini agrees.

"Capers have a bold, salty, tangy flavor with a little floral and lemony sharpness," Vicidomini tells Parade. "They add brightness and depth to dishes in the same way citrus or olives can. Good capers should taste balanced—briny but not overpowering."

The exact flavor can vary depending on how they're preserved. O'Donnell says capers packed in salt often have a more floral, fruity character, while brined capers tend to taste sharper and more intensely salty.

"I prefer salted capers over brined capers," he says, "because the salt preserves their actual flavor better so they tend to be very floral and fruity vs. briney and sharp."

Do Capers Have a Fishy Taste?

Not at all! This misconception likely comes from the fact that capers frequently appear in (and very well complement) seafood recipes, particularly dishes featuring salmon, tuna and white fish.

"People sometimes associate capers with seafood dishes because they pair so naturally with fish, especially Mediterranean preparations," says Vicidomini. "But capers themselves are more briny, citrusy and savory than 'fishy.'"

Wilkins adds, "A common misconception is that capers are overpowering or taste like fish. In reality, they’re plant-based and, when used thoughtfully, provide a subtle burst of acidity and complexity that enhances rather than dominates a dish."

Where Do Capers Come From?

Capers are native to the Mediterranean region and have been used in cooking there for centuries. According to Wilkins, capers originate from areas including Italy, Spain and North Africa, where warm, dry climates allow the caper bush to thrive.

Vicidomini notes that Italy, Sicily and other parts of southern Europe are especially well-known for producing high-quality capers. At his restaurant, they even have a favorite brand.

"We use Agostino Recca Capers, an Italian brand known for quality Mediterranean capers with excellent texture and flavor," he explains. "Italian capers tend to have a cleaner, more delicate balance of salinity and acidity."

Do Capers Go Bad?

Like most preserved foods, capers have a long shelf life, but they won't last forever. Wilkins says unopened capers are shelf-stable and can be stored in a cool pantry. Once opened, however, they should be refrigerated to maintain freshness and flavor.

O'Donnell agrees, noting that capers stored properly in their original salt or brine can last a very long time under refrigeration.

Do Capers Need To Be Refrigerated?

Once opened, yes.

"It's best to refrigerate a jar of capers after it is opened," Ashmore explains. "They are preserved, so they have a very long shelf life, but they will eventually go bad."

What Are Non-Pareil Capers?

If you've ever noticed "non-pareil" on a jar label, you're looking at the smallest variety of capers available.

"Non-pareil capers are the smallest, most delicate variety, prized for their tender texture and more refined, nuanced flavor," Wilkins explains. "They’re often considered the premium option for both home cooks and chefs."

Ashmore adds that these are typically harvested earlier than larger capers and measure less than seven millimeters in diameter.

Are Capers a Vegetable or a Fruit?

Surprisingly, capers are neither. Although they're often grouped with vegetables in recipes and grocery stores, capers are technically flower buds.

"They are actually a flower bud, botanically speaking," says Petonito. She notes that if the bud is allowed to mature, it develops into a caper berry, which is considered a fruit because it contains seeds.

Are Capers Vegan?

Yes. Capers are naturally vegan. Since they're simply flower buds preserved in salt or brine, they don't contain any animal products.

Are Capers Healthy for You?

Capers may be tiny, but they contain several beneficial compounds. Wilkins says capers are naturally low in calories and contain antioxidants, including quercetin and rutin. They're also a simple way to add flavor without additional fats or sugars.

That said, capers are typically high in sodium because they're preserved in salt or brine. Ashmore notes that while capers contain antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, people watching their sodium intake should enjoy them in moderation.

Petonito echoes this.

"All natural foods are healthy for you...however, they are packed in salt which isn't good for people watching their sodium intake. Everything in moderation," she says.

What Are Capers Used For?

"Capers are used to brighten sauces, seafood, pasta dishes, salads and roasted vegetables," Vicidomini says. "In Italian cooking, they’re especially popular in dishes like piccata, puttanesca and Sicilian seafood preparations."

Petonito agrees, noting that she uses capers in everything from pasta sauces and salads to tartar sauce, smoked salmon plates and Mediterranean recipes. Their salty, acidic flavor makes them particularly useful for balancing rich, buttery dishes.

Where To Find Capers in a Grocery Store

Most shoppers can find capers near other brined and pickled ingredients.

According to Wilkins, capers are usually stocked in the condiment or international foods aisle, often near olives, pickles and other pantry staples.

O'Donnell notes that standard grocery stores typically carry brined capers, while specialty food stores may also offer salt-packed varieties or specialty jars.

Beginner-Friendly Caper Recipes To Try

If you're nervous about trying capers for the first time (or again), our experts have some recommendations about where to start.

"I think many people that don't enjoy capers either just haven't had good quality capers (packed in salt) or they overpowered the dish somehow rather than complimented the dish," O'Donnell tells Parade.

The chefs we spoke with agree that capers shine when they're balanced with rich ingredients that soften their briny edge and allow their bright, lemony flavor to come through.

• For a beginner-friendly introduction, Wilkins recommends a simple lemon pasta with olive oil, garlic and a small amount of capers. "In a balanced dish like this, capers add brightness and depth without overwhelming the palate," he explains.
• Vicidomini points to his Dover Sole Piccata with capers and brown butter. "When capers are balanced properly with butter, lemon, and good fish, they become incredibly elegant rather than overpowering," he explains. "A lot of people who think they dislike capers have only had overly salty versions used too aggressively." In a well-made piccata sauce, he says, capers add brightness and complexity without taking over the dish.
• Ashmore agrees that classic Italian dishes are often the best introduction. He recommends Beatrix's Enlightened Caesar Salad, where capers act as a subtle secret ingredient that adds interest without dominating the other flavors.
• Ashmore also suggests Chicken Piccata from Antico Posto, noting that capers help season the rich, buttery sauce with their signature lemony brininess.

The takeaway? If you think you don't like capers, don't write them off just yet. Try them in a well-balanced pasta, Caesar salad or piccata dish first. You may just discover that these tiny flower buds are far more nuanced than you realized.

Gene Simmons, the legendary co-founder of KISS and one of rock music’s most recognizable performers, is bringing his solo band to Wisconsin later this year for what organizers describe as a rare opportunity for fans to experience the rock icon up close.

The EPIC Event Center in Ashwaubenon announced that The Gene Simmons Band will perform on Nov. 5, 2026, alongside local favorites Bad Habitz. 

The venue called the upcoming show “one of those ‘tell your friends you were there’ nights,” highlighting the intimate setting that differs from the arena-sized performances Simmons became famous for during his decades with KISS.

Simmons remains one of the most influential figures in rock music history. Known worldwide as “The Demon,” he helped build KISS into one of the biggest bands of the 1970s and beyond.

Along with bandmates Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, Simmons transformed the group into a global phenomenon through its music, theatrical stage shows and groundbreaking merchandise empire.

The announcement comes as Simmons continues an active touring schedule with The Gene Simmons Band following KISS’ farewell run, which concluded in 2023 after the End of the Road World Tour.

While KISS officially ended its touring career in 2023, Simmons has shown no signs of slowing down.

The 76-year-old bassist and vocalist continues performing with The Gene Simmons Band, which features guitarist Brent Woods, guitarist Zach Throne and drummer Brian Tichy. The group performs a mix of classic KISS songs, deeper cuts from the band’s catalog and select covers.

The Wisconsin concert announcement adds another milestone to a career that has spanned more than five decades.

Born in Israel as Chaim Witz, Simmons moved to the United States as a child before eventually co-founding KISS in 1973. The band achieved mainstream success with albums including Destroyer, the 1976 release that helped launch KISS into superstardom.

The album became one of the most important records in the band’s history, featuring songs that helped define the group's larger-than-life image and rock sound.

Beyond music, Simmons built a reputation as a businessman, television personality, producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of KISS in 2014 and was honored as part of the Kennedy Center Honors in 2025 alongside fellow KISS founders.

For fans in Wisconsin, the Nov. 5 show offers a rare chance to see one of rock music’s most enduring figures in a smaller venue environment.
