Forgotten 1980 Country Pop Hit Made Vince Gill Famous Before Anyone Knew His Name

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 5:50am

In 1980, country-pop was all the rage, and a soon-to-be superstar got his big break with a hit that sent Pure Prairie League soaring into the Top 10.

Vince Gill joined the band in 1978. The group already had a loyal following in the country-rock scene thanks to the success of their 1975 hit "Aimee." It didn’t take long for his smooth vocals to help push the band further into the mainstream spotlight.

Five years after "Aimee" thrust Pure Prairie League into the spotlight, Gill helped the band crack the Top 10 with "Let Me Love You Tonight." The song had a little help from saxophonist David Sanborn, who provided an unforgettable musical presence throughout the song, according to American Songwriter.

The song also landed at the top spot on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts, per a Facebook post. Today, it is widely considered a Yacht Rock classic.

"Let Me Love You Tonight" came on the heels of Pure Prairie League's signing to Casablanca Records, reported Taste of Country. It was included in the album Firin' Up.

Gill was one of a series of Pure Prairie League lead singers after Craig Fuller left the band. Fuller's absence came before the band's breakthrough hit, "Aimee."

The future country superstar left the band in 1982 reported Taste of Country. Two years later, he released his first country album, Turn Me Loose. Two more solo efforts followed.

In 1989, Gill firmly stepped into the spotlight as a bona fide country music superstar with the success of When I Call Your Name. The album’s title track earned him both Single and Song of the Year honors from the Country Music Association, along with a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance, Male, according to his official website.

The website states, "Over the decades that followed, he has become one of the most decorated artists in country music history, winning a total of 19 CMA Awards — including a record four Song of the Year honors — along with 22 Grammy Awards and eight awards from the Academy of Country Music. In 2025, the CMA honored Gill with its prestigious Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his lasting impact on country music."

As for Pure Prairie League? They continue to tour today, with dates scheduled through May 2026. However, no music lover could ever forget the smooth track that made the band a Top 10 sensation and introduced the world to a young Vince Gill.

Disney World Fans Are Calling This New Summer 2026 Deal 'Life Changing'

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 5:45am

Disney World Annual Passholders are officially in celebration mode. A new room-only discount announced for late summer and early fall 2026 is being hailed by fans as a "life-changing" opportunity to save hundreds—or even thousands—on a Disney vacation.

The deal, which applies to most arrivals between July 30 and October 3, 2026, offers a rare 40% discount on room rates at select Deluxe and Deluxe Villa resorts for stays of four nights or longer. For shorter stays of one to three nights, Passholders can still snag a significant 35% savings.

"As an Annual Passholder, I know that sometimes my need for a Disney vacation comes at a big cost to my wallet," says Disney blogger Lauren Writtenberry. "If you’re flexible enough to make your vacation work during this deal’s timeframe, it can really save you!"

View this post on Instagram

The 40% tier includes some of Disney’s most iconic properties, such as Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s Riviera Resort. For those looking for more budget-friendly options, the deal also scales to Moderate and Value resorts:

  • Save 35% (4+ nights) at resorts like Disney’s Caribbean Beach and Disney’s Coronado Springs.
  • Save 30% (4+ nights) at fan favorites like Disney’s Pop Century and Disney’s All-Star Movies.
  • Save 25% (4+ nights) on standard rooms at Disney’s Art of Animation.

The timing of the offer is also a win for families. This room discount can be combined with the 2026 Kids Dining Plan Offer, which gives children (ages 3 to 9) a free dining plan when a qualifying vacation package is booked.

Industry experts note that while Disney frequently offers seasonal promotions, reaching the 40% threshold is increasingly rare. "Discounted hotel rates could mean more budget for other things like Lightning Lane, a character meal or even a longer stay," Writtenberry adds. With rooms limited and fans already "suddenly changing their summer 2026 plans" to accommodate the dates, you’ll want to log in to your My Disney Experience account and book quickly before the inventory disappears.

'Laguna Beach' Cast Reunion Guide: Where Are They Now in 2026?

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 5:44am

Cue up "Come Clean" by Hilary Duff—the Laguna Beach cast is reuniting for the first time in 20 years! The Roku Channel's new reunion special premieres on Friday, April 10, and brings back the original stars of MTV's Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County—including Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari and Stephen Colletti. The streaming event will take a look back at the iconic 2000s reality series that made regular California teens overnight superstars.

A first peek at the reunion special left longtime Laguna Beach fans emotional, nostalgic for the days when Von Dutch was the height of fashion and the most high-stakes drama was the love triangle between Lauren, Kristin and Stephen. (Spoiler alert: the ladies have reconciled in the decades since the show aired.) Fans will get to see the likes of Trey Phillips, Talan Torriero and other Laguna Beach stars onscreen together for the first time in years.

But before you tune into The Reunion: Laguna Beach, let's see where the O.G. cast is now—and what they've been up to over the past two decades.

Laguna Beach Cast: Where Are They Now?1. Lauren Conrad Lauren Conrad in 2004

Laguna Beach was just the start of Lauren Conrad's television career. She left the original California-set reality show to star in its spinoff—The Hills—which ran on MTV for six seasons and chronicled Conrad's time living in Los Angeles with housemateHeidi Montag, neighbor Audrina Patridgeand co-worker Whitney Port.

Conrad parlayed that reality TV fame into several fashion lines (LC Lauren Conrad, Paper Crown), a cosmetic brand (Lauren Conrad Beauty), a fragrance company (LOVED by Lauren Conrad), a podcast (Asking for a Friend) and several novels—including the L.A. Candy and The Fame Game trilogies. These days, the 40-year-old entrepreneur is busy with her non-profit, fair-trade shop The Little Market, as well as her two sons—Liam and Charlie—with husband William Tell.

2. Kristin Cavallari Kristin Cavallari poses for a portrait in 2004.

Kristin Cavallari starred alongside Conrad—most often as her rival, due to her on-and-off relationship with fellow cast mate Stephen Colletti—on Laguna Beach for the show's first two seasons. She also replaced Conrad as the lead and narrator of MTV's The Hills in Seasons 5 and 6. Cavallari continued her reality TV career with the UPN series Get This Party Started, ABC's dance competition Dancing with the Stars, The Hills: New Beginnings and her own E! series Very Cavallari, which aired for three seasons from 2018 to 2020.

Beyond the screen, the 39-year-old runs the lifestyle brand Uncommon James, which was founded in 2017; has published several bestselling cookbooks (True Comfort, True Simple); and hosts the podcast Let's Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari, which launched via Dear Media in 2023 and was chronicled in the 2025 E! series Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour. Kristin currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with the three children she shares with ex-husband Jay Cutler.

3. Stephen Colletti Stephen Colletti—pictured here in 2004—currently resides in Nashville.

Stephen Colletti attained TV heartthrob status thanks to his two-season run on Laguna Beach and aforementioned romantic drama with both Cavallari and Conrad. Following the high school program, the Newport Beach native had a stint as a VJ on MTV's Total Request Live, popped up as Taylor Swift's love interest in her "White Horse" music video and delved into acting—joining the cast of the classic CW teen drama One Tree Hillfor its last five seasons. Colletti and his OTH costar James Lafferty co-created and starred in the Hulu comedy Everyone Is Doing Great, which debuted in 2021.

And the 40-year-old hunk is still busy on the small screen: He was most recently a contestant on The Traitors Season 4, which debuted on Peacock on January 8. And along with appearing in the upcoming Laguna Beach reunion special, he revisited the MTV fave with the Dear Media rewatch podcast Back to the Beach with Kristin and Stephen, which he co-hosted with his old pal Cavallari. Like Cavallari, Stephen is currently living in Nashville alongside his NASCAR host wife Alex Weaver; the couple is expecting their first child.

Lauren "Lo" Bosworth starred in the first season of Laguna Beach (making guest appearances in season two) as the BFF of lead Lauren Conrad. She later followed her bestie onto The Hills, where she had recurring status until becoming a main cast member in the show's sixth and final season.

Following The Hills' end in 2010, Bosworth released a dating advice book (The Lo Down) in 2011 and founded the female-focused personal care brand Love Wellness in 2016. The company's supplements and self-care products can be found in major retailers such as Target, Ulta and Walmart. In a similar vein, she also penned the 2022 book Love Yourself: An Empowering Wellness Guide to Supporting Your Gut, Brain, and Vagina.

The 39-year-old has traded the West Coast for the East Coast, now residing in New York City with her husband Dom Natale and their newborn daughter. Bosworth will explore the topic of motherhood and identity shift in her new parenting podcast Tell Me I'm a Good Mom with Lo Bosworth Natale, which just launched this March.

While Stephen, Lauren, Lo and co. were seniors at Laguna Beach High School, Talan Torriero was just a junior when he was plunged into the spotlight as a cast member on Laguna Beach. He remained on the show for two seasons before pursuing his creative passions as a digital creator and an actor-producer. His film credits include Bar Starz, American High School and The Killing Jar.

Talan currently lives in Nebraska with his longtime bride Danielle Torriero, to whom he's been wed since June 2014. The couple has three children: son Bronson, daughter Hudson and youngest boy Anderson.

Talan's now a married father of three!

6. Trey Phillips Trey Phillips' passion for fashion continues over 20 years later.

Trey Phillips was a main Laguna Beach cast member for its first season in 2004, but appeared in a reduced role during Season 2. His interest in fashion was apparent even then; who can forget the charity runway show he put on?

So it wasn't too much of a surprise when Phillips left California for New York to enroll in the Parsons School of Design, where he studied fashion design and renewable energy. After graduating in 2010, he worked at high-level fashion houses including Vera Wang in NYC and Halpern in London and also founded the printmaking brand Motion Illustrated in 2023. Nowadays, the 39-year-old Trey lives in London with his partner Kasumi.

Christina Sinclair (née Schuller) was part of Lauren Conrad's gaggle of girlfriends in Laguna Beach's first season. Like Trey, she continued on the show in a guest capacity for Season 2. And rounding out the original main cast is Morgan Smith (née Olsen), who also hung out regularly with Conrad, Schuller and the rest of the Laguna Beach girls. After high school, Morgan studied at Brigham Young University, where she graduated as a humanities and journalism major in 2008.

Two years later, she wed her hubby, Joel Smith. The couple now lives in Charleston, South Carolina with their three children: Theo, Georgia and Julian. Smith also runs her own swimwear brand, Minnow Swim, which she founded back in 2016.

The star left the series after Season 2 in order to attend college.

Who was in the 'Laguna Beach' Season 1 cast?

The original cast of Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County included seniors Lauren "LC" Conrad, Stephen Colletti, Lo Bosworth, Trey Phillips, Morgan Olsen and Christina Schuller—along with juniors Kristin Cavallari and Talan Torriero. Jessica Smith, Alex Hooser, Dieter Schmitz, Morgan Saunders, Jason Wahler, Kyndra Mayo and Cami Edwards also appeared as friends of the main cast.

Who is missing from the 'Laguna Beach' reunion?

Original Laguna Beach star Lauren "Lo" Bosworth was forced to sit out from the upcoming reunion festivities for health reasons. She and her husband Dom Natale have a newborn daughter, Nelle. Bosworth was scheduled to undergo post-pregnancy surgery, which made her unable to travel from New York City to California to film the much-anticipated special.

Bosworth explained her absence in an Instagram video. "I have to get some placenta removed next week surgically that was accidentally left behind," Lo explained, adding that she still made it a point to match her former costars’ outfits even though she couldn’t attend. "I wore my black and white outfit at home yesterday in solidarity," she wrote in the post’s caption.

Are Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari friends now? The former rivals—pictured here at the 2026 Laguna Beach reunion after party—are now on much better terms!

Yes, the former rivals have moved on from their feud. Cavallari took to social media this past fall to poke fun at it, posting a picture with Conrad on Instagram and captioning it: “Everyone can put away their Team Lauren and Team Kristin shirts now."

Where is Lauren Conrad’s sister now?  Breanna Conrad attends a red carpet event in 2006.

Lauren wasn’t the only Conrad girl to appear on Laguna Beach: Her younger sister Breanna Conrad also appeared on the MTV series during its third season, as well as its spinoff The Hills. However, unlike big sis LC, Breanna has largely remained out of the public eye following her reality TV career. Now 36, she's reportedly working as a registered nurse in California.

You've nearly completed your entire patio set, but there's something missing: a gorgeous wooden side table that you can lay your summer magazine on. Due to the fact that outdoor furniture can lean towards the pricier side, we're always looking out for pieces that are chic, budget-friendly, and long-lasting. Target has quite a few amazing home items that will upgrade your space without breaking the bank, like this Costway Outdoor Round Side Table, which is 50% off right now.

The furniture, originally priced at $156, has been marked down to just $78. It's 30 inches tall and 27.5 inches long, so make sure to take those measurements into account when deciding where to place it. It's made of 100% premium eucalyptus wood, which is often used on high-end outdoor furniture, because it's durable and doesn't break down easily. Plus, it's painted with varnish to seal it, so it won't crack easily or automatically be affected by weather.

The design can hold up to 110 pounds, and features X-shape legs to improve stability. The water- and scratch-resistant piece debuts a rustic look with natural wooden coloring that pairs well with farmhouse and bohemian style homes. Due to its smaller size, it can fit in a garden, patio, balcony, or you can even place it indoors, in your bedroom, dining room, etc. If you have a sunroom, this bistro table would be perfect.

You will have to assemble the table upon delivery, but shoppers said that it was "easy" to put together and arrived very quickly. One customer praised the "excellent" and "sturdy construction" of the table, adding that it's not flimsy at all. Other reviewers said that the piece is "well-made," "beautiful," and the "perfect" size for those with apartments. Another shopper even bought the side tables for their coffee shop.

Coca-Cola Launches a New One-of-a-Kind Flavor With a Twist No One Saw Coming

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 5:14am

Coca-Cola is no stranger to introducing new flavors to its customers, from the return of Mr. Pibb in both its regular flavor and new Punchin’ Peach and Thrillin’ Vanilla, to the new Sprite Chill.

But unlike those, and most of the other offerings in the Coca-Cola beverage portfolio, its newest limited-time flavor isn’t just one-of-a-kind; it’s extremely exclusive. The soda giant has teamed up with Wingstop to introduce a new one-of-a-kind flavor that customers will only be able to taste if they stop by a Wingstop location with a Coca-Cola freestyle machine.

Related: Coca-Cola Has Three New Exclusive Sodas and I Tried Them All

The new Sprite Loco Lime, which is also available in a zero sugar variety, combines Sprite, Fanta Lime, and Minute Maid Limeade for a zesty and bold citrus-driven flavor experience. It coincides with the launch of a new limited-time flavor at Wingstop, which can be tasted on wings, tenders, or sandwiches: Citrus Mojo.

For the uninitiated, a mojo is a foundational sauce in Cuban cuisine. Made with sour orange juice, garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper, and herbs like oregano and cumin, the tangy, flavorful sauce is often used as a marinade. Because sour oranges can be tricky to source, home chefs will often substitute lemon or lime juice instead.

“At Wingstop, pushing the boundaries of flavor is in our DNA,” said Donnie Upshaw, Chief Brand Officer of Wingstop in a statement. “Citrus Mojo brings a bright, refreshing profile into our flavor lineup while delivering the boldness our fans expect. It’s a vibrant flavor that gives you that feeling of an escape, wherever you are, perfectly suited for spring and summer.”

Food vlogger Snach With Zach took to Instagram to share his take on the new sauce flavor, saying that while it was reminiscent of lemon pepper, “it’s kind of an evolved version” with an herbaceous acidity and “a touch of sweetness” from “what could be some sort of tropical fruit,” ultimately calling it “a warm weather vibe.”

“Guess I’ll be there tmrw,” said one commenter as another teased that they would be “banging on the doors of wingstop tomorrow.”

Virgin Voyages Finally Brings Its Adults-Only Style to LA and Alaska

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 5:10am

If you’ve been waiting for Sir Richard Branson’s signature "nautical chic" style to hit the Pacific, your ship has finally come in. On April 6, Virgin Voyages officially made its West Coast debut as its newest vessel, Brilliant Lady, sailed into the Port of Los Angeles.

The milestone event brought a dose of Red Sector energy to Southern California, proving that the adults-only cruise line is ready to trade the Atlantic for the West Coast’s creative spirit.

For travelers who have watched Virgin Voyages sweep the "World's Best" awards from Miami and Barcelona over the last few years, the move to Los Angeles is a game-changer. The Brilliant Lady isn't just stopping by for a visit; she is anchoring a brand-new season of itineraries that range from quick hops down to the Mexican Riviera and Baja California to a highly anticipated, first-ever Alaska season.

Whether you’re looking for a sunny escape to Puerto Vallarta or a bucket-list trek through the glaciers, the "Lady Ships" are now an easy nonstop flight away for West Coast travelers.

Onboard, the experience feels more like a boutique hotel than a traditional mega-ship. Guests on these new Pacific routes can expect the brand’s signature perks, including more than 20 eateries featuring menus from Michelin-starred chefs—with no buffets or formal nights in sight.

From the Spanish-inspired Rojo to the lively Korean BBQ at Gunbae, the culinary scene is designed for those who want to "eat their way" across the ocean. The wellness offerings have also been tweaked for the California crowd, featuring West Coast–inspired spin classes, redesigned juice bars, and morning rituals on the deck.

The entertainment is equally "un-cruise," swapping standard Broadway revues for festival-style shows like Red Hot, an electrifying journey through the Virgin Records catalog, and Up With a Twist, a new 1920s-inspired supper club experience. And of course, no Virgin sailing is complete without Scarlet Night, the legendary poolside celebration that recently made its splashing West Coast debut.

With its arrival in California, Virgin Voyages is offering a fresh, sophisticated alternative for anyone tired of the "same old" cruise experience. Between the rockstar suites, the mermaid-inspired spa, and the chance to finally see Alaska through a modern, adults-only lens, Brilliant Lady is officially the new "it" ship of the Pacific.

Aldi's $8 Gold Sandals Are the Chic Accessory You'll Be Wearing All Spring and Summer

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 5:05am

When I'm plotting out my spring and summer wardrobe, I like to keep things as simple as possible. Cute dresses you can just throw on and head out the door, and footwear that will pair with just about anything. Particularly with shoes, the simpler the better. I like to stick with flats that look just as good with shorts and jeans as they do dresses and skirts—preferably in a neutral.

Now, I get that this strategy isn't for everyone. Some need way more options. But if you're looking for a pretty, wear-with-anything warm-weather shoe, let me direct your attention to a pair of gold sandals in the Aldi Finds aisle that are absolutely perfect.

Serra Ladies Geometric Slide Sandal in Gold, $7.99 at Aldi

Aldi

Aldi's Serra Ladies Geometric Slide Sandals are the kind of shoe you'll find yourself reaching for on repeat, which is totally the point. They're an easy slip-on style that makes getting out the door effortless. The geometric footbed adds a subtle, modern twist, making them feel a little more elevated than your average flat, while the slight heel gives you just enough lift for all-day comfort (no regrets later).

They come in sizes 6–10, and if gold isn't your thing, there are three other colorways available. You can find them in cognac, black and even a fun leopard option if you're feeling a little bold.

Related: Kohl's Boho-Chic Nesting Tables Look Like an Artisanal Bazaar Find Without the Travel

Gold sandals are basically the ultimate neutral with a little extra sparkle—they go with way more than you'd think. For an easy daytime look, pair them with denim (cutoffs, straight-leg jeans or a chambray dress) and a simple white tee or tank. The gold instantly elevates something super casual without being over-the-top.

If you're leaning a bit dressier, they look gorgeous with flowy sundresses, especially in soft neutrals, pastels or even bold prints. Linen pieces—like wide-leg pants or a breezy matching set—also work beautifully and give that effortless, vacation-ready vibe.

At $7.99 a pair, if you love the gold, it could be worth buying them in another color. That way, you keep things simple while still having another option in case you want to switch things up.

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Hunting for the perfect Mother’s Day gift can feel a bit like hunting for a needle in a haystack of cliches. The right piece of jewelry can do exactly that, adding sparkle to her wardrobe without taking up precious space.

If you’re looking to give a gift that hits all the right notes, Macy’s exclusive Mother-of-Pearl Decorative Pendant Necklace is just $36, marked down 76% from its original $150. Lightweight, versatile, and subtly radiant, this pendant brings a touch of elegance to any outfit, from casual brunches to special celebrations. It’s a simple, beautiful way to make Mom feel celebrated without making your wallet weep.

Dubbed by shoppers as a “beautiful” and “eye-catching” design, this 18-inch-long gold pendant necklace leans into a more modern, artful take on everyday jewelry, blending clean structure with soft, organic detail. Suspended from a fine, delicate 18-karat over sterling silver chain, the circular pendant features an openwork design outlined in polished gold, with abstract, petal-like shapes that form a stylized floral motif.

Within the frame, a luminous circular mother-of-pearl inlay adds a subtle iridescence, shifting gently in tone from pink, opal, blue, and green tones as it catches the light. This effect gives the piece an ethereal, almost otherworldly glow. The harmony between the fluid, nature-inspired shapes and the rounded silhouette creates a balanced, contemporary feel that still nods to something timeless, making it suitable for a range of outfits and style aesthetics.

The actor, best known for his roles in Back to the Future and Family Ties, was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in the early 90s. Over the years, the disease has progressed and Fox has done his best dealing with tremors and other limitations.

Seeing him at PaleyFest was hard for many longtime fans who see just how hard the actor struggles, despite being mentally sound.

Shortly after the video was shared on X, dozens of fans reacted.

"He behaves with such spirit and dignity and refuses to hide. What an inspiration Fox is," one person wrote.

"This breaks my heart. I have always loved Michael J Fox and [his] work. He is a true 80s icon and always will be in my book! I love his work so much that I named my dog Alex after Alex P Keaton from Family Ties," someone else said.

"This is hard to watch, not to be insensitive, but I watched Michael on television every time back to the future comes on and to see that young impressionable young man go from being Marty McFly to being in a wheelchair because of Parkinson’s disease it’s very hard hard to watch," a third comment read.

"It hurts my heart to see Michael J Fox in such a state too, such a terrible condition and this is such a wholesome, heartwarming moment too. ^$%# Parkinson's," a fourth X user added.

Uploading a snapshot of Ella posing for the cameras on the red carpet for the 2026 Fashion Trust U.S. Awards — which were held in Los Angeles, Calif., on Tuesday, April 8 — Travolta was ever the doting dad as he wrote in his caption, "So proud of my baby girl."

The Saturday Night Fever alum, 71, shares Ella, as well as his two sons, Jett and Benjamin, with late wife Kelly Preston. The late actress died in July 2020 at the age of 57 following a two-year battle with breast cancer.

Preston was preceded in death by the pair's firstborn son, Jett, who tragically died at age 16 after suffering a seizure during a family vacation in 2009. Nearly two years after Jett's death, Travolta and Preston welcomed their third child, Benjamin, who is now 15 years old.

As for their daughter, who is now 26, Ella continues to show off just how strong her family's genes really are, looking like the perfect mix between both of her famous parents. During her red carpet outing on Tuesday, Ella was dressed for the special occasion in a black turtleneck gown featuring sparkly flower embellishments scattered across the fabric.

In his post on Wednesday, Travolta also told his fans to "look out" for Ella in his upcoming directorial debut, Propeller One-Way Night Coach, which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month before making its global debut on Apple TV on May 29.

Olympian Eileen Gu Learned How to 'Fight Bad Guys' This Past Month

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 4:15am

Olympic champion Eileen Gu is giving fans a fresh and playful look into her life, this time with a surprising twist.

The 22-year-old Chinese- American freestyle skiing star recently revealed that she spent part of the past month learning how to “fight bad guys,” sharing the update through a series of photos and videos on Instagram.

At the top of her post was a short clip showing Gu in a boxing workout, throwing punches and training with focus.

“Highlight of this past month was learning how to Fight Bad Guys (Because I Love the World), but the other stuff was cool too,” she captioned.

In another slide, Gu shared a childhood photo alongside a handwritten note she made when she was young.

“This year I hope to get a orange belt in karate because when I grow up I will fight bad guys! Because I love the world. My hope and dream is that I will be able to make friends that play instruments so I can make a band,” it read.

Gu’s latest post comes after a busy and successful stretch in her career. Earlier this year, she dominated at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics 2026, winning a gold medal in the women’s halfpipe and two silver medals in big air and slopestyle.

Off the slopes, her influence continues to grow. She has become one of the most recognizable athletes of her generation, known not just for her skills but also for her charm and confidence

Just days before her “fight bad guys” post, she shared a selfie taken on a ski lift with Prince Harry and Justin Trudeau. Another photo from the same trip showed her with Trudeau and Katy Perry near a cozy cabin.

While it’s unclear where the trip took place, the relaxed photos showed her enjoying time off after a demanding competition season.

Despite the glamorous moments, Gu has also faced personal challenges. During the Olympics, she shared the emotional news that her grandmother had passed away shortly after one of her events. She spoke openly about the impact her grandmother had on her life, describing her as someone who inspired strength and bravery.

Gu said she made a promise to her grandmother before the Games: to be brave. That promise, she explained, continues to guide her decisions both in competition and in life.

Now, with her latest update, fans are seeing yet another side of Gu’s personality, one that mixes humor, nostalgia and strength.

The Great Lakes Are Finally Getting a Michelin Guide—Here Are the Cities Included

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 4:10am

The prestigious red book is officially planting a stake in the Midwest. The Michelin Guide announced today that it is launching a brand-new "American Great Lakes" edition, finally putting some of the country’s most vibrant and "best-kept secret" food scenes on the global culinary map.

Starting in 2027, the guide will provide a curated selection of the best places to eat across six major hubs: Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Pittsburgh.

While the official star ceremony won't happen until next year, Michelin’s famous anonymous inspectors are already on the ground, making reservations and scouting for the region's top talent.

This expansion follows a busy few years for Michelin in North America, which recently added dedicated guides for Texas, the Southwest, and the American South, signaling a major shift toward celebrating regional American flavors beyond the usual coastal suspects.

For cities like Milwaukee and Detroit, the recognition is a milestone that validates years of growth in their local hospitality industries. "Being named a MICHELIN Guide destination is a milestone moment for Detroit and Southeast Michigan," said Claude Molinari, President & CEO, Visit Detroit. "It reinforces Detroit’s emergence as a premier culinary destination in the United States, known for its diverse dining scene, world-class chefs and authentic food culture."

Peggy Williams-Smith of Visit Milwaukee echoes that sentiment, noting that the city has always shown up to the table with a "point of view all its own" that is finally being recognized by the international benchmark of fine dining.

Travelers can expect the 2027 inaugural selection to include the famous one, two and three Michelin Stars for exceptional execution, as well as the "Bib Gourmand" designation for personal inspector favorites that offer high-quality food at a great value. There will also be a focus on the Michelin Green Star, which honors restaurants leading the way in sustainable and mindful gastronomy—a category where the farm-forward Great Lakes region is expected to shine.

Whether you're looking for world-class pierogies in Pittsburgh, innovative Nordic-inspired plates in Minneapolis or the diverse, chef-driven kitchens of Indianapolis, the upcoming Great Lakes guide is set to become the ultimate roadmap for your next regional road trip.

After all, as Michelin’s International Director Gwendal Poullennec notes, the goal is to help people discover "unforgettable culinary experiences"—and the Great Lakes are clearly ready to serve.

This Best-Seller Was Ranked the Best Action-Adventure Novel on Goodreads

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 4:02am

Science meets action, along with a prescient warning about the hubris of capitalism’s role in technological advancement, in the 1990 smash hit novel Jurassic Park

The book by Michael Crichton, who also penned other modern classics like The Andromeda Strain and Congo, and created the hit television series ER, tells the story of a bioengineering billionaire who recreated long-extinct dinosaurs using fossilized DNA trapped in amber. But as the protagonists, a paleontologist and paleobotanist, quickly find out when touring a theme park that will showcase living dinosaurs for tourists’ amusement, the profits aren’t worth the danger associated with the larger-than-life deadly creatures.

Themes of arrogance, unexpected consequences, and heroism pepper the cautionary tale, which became a number one New York Times bestseller after its November 20, 1990, release. It was subsequently turned into a blockbuster hit movie, which became a hugely successful film franchise.

When asked to name the best action-adventure novel, Goodreads users gave Jurassic Park the number one spot. It also took fourth place on the bibliophile social media site’s list of mystery sci-fi books alongside genre-defining books like Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game and new Young Adult classic, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

“This is one of Crichton's best novels,” gushed one review on Goodreads, proclaiming that Jurassic Park “could be called part of the foundation of the Sci-Fi thriller, aka techno thriller, genre with mainstream media adaptions and many great, new authors following in his footsteps.”

“I loved this book. The story is scary, action-packed, and kept me reading. Throughout the beginning and middle, there were a lot of similarities to the movie, but the entire last portion of the book was completely different, in a good way,” said another reviewer, pointing out that while the novel and its cinematic counterpart are similar, if you’ve only experienced one, it’s worth diving into the other.

1979 Career-Defining Rock Hit Ranked Among ‘Greatest Songs of All Time’ Was Almost Blocked by Singer: ‘Over My Dead Body’

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 4:01am

In late 1979, the Pretenders released what would become their breakout hit. The song, “Brass in Pocket,” appeared on the English rock band’s self -titled debut album. Written by Chrissie Hynde and James Honeyman-Scott, “Brass in Pocket” featured a choppy guitar riff and empowering lyrics. It peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1980.

Rolling Stone ranked "Brass in Pocket” as one of the greatest songs of all time, describing it as the first Number One U.K. hit of the Eighties, the eighth video played on MTV, and the song that launched the Pretenders into pop stardom.”

But the hit song almost didn’t happen at all.

In an interview with American Songwriter, Hynde admitted that she hated "Brass in Pocket" when it was first recorded at Wessex Studios in London, and didn’t want it on the album. She even told producer Chris Thomas, “This goes out over my dead body.”

“I did not like it at first,” the singer shared in the interview. “I said that would go out over my dead body. That was my famous quote.”

Hynde explained, “I didn’t like it because I didn’t think it knew what it was. I thought it sounded like it was trying to be a Motown song, but it didn’t quite get it. It didn’t quite make it. …I didn’t like my voice on it. I was kind of a new singer, and listening to my voice made me kind of cringe.”

Chrissie Hynde couldn’t believe the song went to No. 1 in the UK

While “Brass in Pocket” brought the Pretenders to U.S. listeners, it was even bigger in the UK. But Hynde remained confused about the song’s success.

“I never thought it was that great,” Hynde told  Classic Rock in 2021. “Was it pop? Motown? Rock? It didn’t seem to know what it was. I used to cringe when I heard my voice on those early Pretenders recordings, and then that f---er went to number one! I remember walking around Oxford Circus hearing it blasting out of people’s radios. I was mortified.”

Hynde also downplayed the perception that the song was meant to be an empowerment anthem for women.

"It's just a three-minute rock song. I don't think it's as loaded as that," she told NPR in 2015, adding, “I'm not here to embolden anyone."

RELATED:  ‘80s Glam Rocker Was Told He’d Never Sing Again

Still, there was no denying that “Brass in Pocket” paved the way for the Pretenders’ future success with hits such as “Back on the Chain Gang,” “Don’t Get Me Wrong,” and “I’ll Stand By You.”

Hynde revealed that she grew to like the song because it served her well. “Brass in Pocket, it’s all right, I like it,” she told American Songwriter.

“In terms of my career, 'Brass In Pocket' was about as big as it got,” the singer added in the Classic Rock interview. “I enjoy singing it these days. If someone wants to hear it, it’s always a pleasure.”

Quote of the Day: Conservationist Jane Goodall on Advocacy and Doing Your Part

Thu, 04/09/2026 - 2:45am

Dr. Jane Goodall is known for her work studying chimpanzees and for being a powerful voice advocating for endangered animals. She was born on April 3, 1934, in London, England, and went on to become an ethologist, a scientist who studies animal behavior. She died on Oct. 1, 2025, and after her death, Netflix releasedFamous Last Words, a documentary series with Goodall as its inaugural episode. And even though she had some great things to say in that episode, she has shared memorable quotes throughout her life, making her a perfect pick for our quote of the day today.

As the Jane Goodall Institute reported, Goodall traveled to Tanzania to start her research on chimpanzees, which then turned into a 60+ year study of “groundbreaking” research that led to understanding them more. In her studies of chimpanzees, she was able to correct misconceptions about them, from the fact that they’re omnivorous and not vegetarian, to the fact that they use tools they make as well, per Britannica

Goodall was not just a scientist, but as her institute’s website says, she was also a conservationist, peacemaker and mentor. During her study of primates, she went into conservation work and advocacy for endangered species (specifically chimps) and protecting our planet.

On that note, Dr. Goodall’s quote today touches on what could put her work—and generally the future—in danger, and that’s apathy.

Quote of the Day by Jane Goodall

CanvaPro/Parade

“The greatest danger to our future is apathy.”

In a Time Magazine op-ed from Aug. 25, 2002, “The Power of One,” Dr. Goodall wrote this quote in her very first line. The first paragraph reads as such:

“The greatest danger to our future is apathy. We cannot expect those living in poverty and ignorance to worry about saving the world. For those of us able to read this magazine, it is different. We can do something to preserve our planet.”

Notably, in 2002, Goodall was appointed a United Nations Messenger of Peace in 2002, and as Save the Chimps wrote on their website, without her, their organization might never have come to be. She really was a woman who put her words into action, and that’s what makes quotes like today’s profound.

Related: Quote of the Day: Paul Newman Says Anything Is Possible

Deeper Meaning of Jane Goodall’s Quote—Advocacy, Doing Your Part

Essentially, her “Power of One” essay for Time was about people’s lack of interest in trying to save the planet. In her second paragraph, she spoke to what a lot of us are guilty of; we see how dire the situation is with Earth and climate change, and we feel helpless in doing anything. We then brush it to the side and say to “leave it to the decision makers,” and we “do nothing.”

And that will essentially be our downfall. Her quote literally says that our own lack of care or interest in saving the planet with anything we can do ourselves is what will ultimately lead to the destruction of said planet and, in turn, our future.

Of course, she's not wrong. Goodall went into details later in her piece about things that seemed impossible hundreds of years ago that are now commonplace, like the internet or large commercial airplanes. And that’s all thanks to human accomplishment and people doing things.

So, how do we dig into determination and get rid of that horrible disinterest we may feel about saving the Earth? With hope, Dr. Goodall explained, which can overcome apathy.

“One reason for hope lies in the extraordinary nature of human intellectual accomplishment,” she wrote.

The rest of her op-ed pointed to what gave her hope and kept her going. She shared that “even companies” are helping out and want to leave positive impacts on the environment. The resilience of nature is also a cause for inspiration, and so is all the progress being made in stopping pollution. And last but not least, Goodall said that the “energy and hard work of young people” also gave her hope.

You can take this quote in the way that Goodall meant it, regarding saving the planet and endangered species. But you can also take this quote even further, using it in regard to politics, the state of our country and anything else that fills us with dread about the future. If you sit there and say, “Well, what can I even do? I’m just one person,” then of course, nothing will change. If you leave it up to others, it might be too late to step in once things really hit the fan.

Sure, it’s difficult when more powerful people seem to have more say than we do, or when large corporations are more responsible for the pollution poisoning our planet than we are. But making little changes to your routine, advocating for and spreading awareness about climate change, and partaking in petitions to make your voice heard can do a lot of good. Yes, others are working to help save the planet (or other things like democracy and world peace), but we can’t just rely on that. You have to do your part as well.

“I feel deep shame when I look into the eyes of my grandchildren and think how much damage has been done to Planet Earth since I was their age,” Dr. Goodall wrote in the final paragraph. “Each of us must work as hard as we can now to heal the hurts and save what is left.”

Related: Quote of the Day: Psychologist Carl Jung on Self-Awareness and Understanding Others

More Quotes from Jane Goodall
  • “Lasting change is a series of compromises. And compromise is all right, as long your values don’t change.”
  • “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
  • “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
  • “Only if we understand, can we care. Only if we care, we will help. Only if we help, we shall be saved.”
  • “The least I can do is speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves.”
  • “Change happens by listening and then starting a dialogue with the people who are doing something you don't believe is right. ”
  • “Here we are, the most clever species ever to have lived. So how is it we can destroy the only planet we have?”

A folding table is one of the smartest additions to any outdoor area with limited space because it provides an extra surface when you need it, then folds flat and stores away when you don’t. This kind of versatility can make spending time outdoors more enjoyable without overwhelming your space.

Described as "stylish and sturdy," the light gray rattan weave gives this patio table an elevated, resort-like vibe that looks way more expensive than the current price. Crafted with polyethylene (PE) rattan, a synthetic material that's designed to mimic natural rattan wicker, it is UV- and weather-proof. The PE rattan is handwoven over a rust-resistant metal frame, making this table simultaneously low-maintenance and durable.
