Some love songs never really leave. They simply find new audiences.

Originally released on Climax Blues Band's 1980 album Flying the Flag before becoming a hit single in 1981, "I Love You" quietly grew into one of soft rock's most enduring ballads. More than a quarter century later, the song was rediscovered by an entirely new generation when Lazlo Bane included it on its 2007 all-covers album Guilty Pleasures, placing it alongside beloved hits by 10cc, Supertramp, The Eagles, Harry Nilsson, Player, Badfinger and more.

The title of the album perfectly fit the band's mission.

Reviewing Guilty Pleasures themselves, Lazlo Bane wrote that the "rules" were simple: pick "a song from the 70s you know, you might be a little embarrassed to admit you love, and you're not exactly sure who wrote it," and that's how they came up with the track list. They also shared that the album came about because they were asked to cover Stealers Wheel's iconic 1973 hit song for a movie and the rest is history.

"We were asked to cover 'Stuck in the Middle with You' for a film and had so much fun we said what the heck, let’s keep going. Four months and 20 songs later and viola! Guilty Pleasures was born," wrote the band on its website.

For "I Love You," however, the song's journey almost ended before it ever began.

Bassist Derek Holt wrote the song in a burst of inspiration at a small studio he had assembled in the corner of a bedroom.

"I sat down at the piano, set the recorder and just started playing the intro and chords to 'I Love You,' Holt recalled in an interview with Rediscover the 80s. "I wrote the whole structure of the song in a couple of takes, including the key change to the solo which I thought was quite clever how it came back to the bridge. ... I added the guitar solo which just seemed naturally what would fit. I played it by bending the strings, it wasn't a slide guitar, put the bass on, then sat down and out poured the lyrics, from nowhere. I then sang it and did all the harmonies myself. I would say it was a pretty divine moment and one I can't explain."

Holt believed he had written something special.

"I thought it was the best and most complete song I'd ever written," he said. But the rest of Climax Blues Band disagreed.

When producer John Ryan asked if anyone had more songs to play, Holt reluctantly shared his demo.

"He loved it, even said he thought it was a hit."

Ryan's instincts proved right. Featuring legendary keyboardist Nicky Hopkins on piano and lush string arrangements by David Campbell, "I Love You" became Climax Blues Band's second-biggest U.S. hit, climbing to No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, spending 27 weeks on the chart and finishing as Billboard's No. 20 song of 1981.

But success also created tension within the band.

Holt later claimed that while the song was climbing the charts, some members refused to support it.

"We had the tour booked," he recalled. "Two guys in the band said, 'We're not going to America to promote Derek Holt's career.'" He believed the disagreement ultimately contributed to the band's eventual split.

For Holt, "I Love You" wasn't just another radio hit.

"It's a pure love song about a woman who enters a man's life and changes his world for the better," he explained in an interview with Pop Music Crooners, adding that the lyrics made it especially popular at weddings.

He also revealed the inspiration behind the song.

"It was about meeting my first wife, meeting the lady that's going to encourage me to do what I did best," Holt said. "At that particular moment in time, everything was right."

Looking back, he still marvels at how quickly it all came together.

"Usually songs appear from nowhere, and that one appeared in a couple of hours."

More than 40 years after first becoming a hit, "I Love You" remains a staple of soft rock radio. Thanks in part to Lazlo Bane's affectionate revival on Guilty Pleasures, the song continues to remind listeners why some so-called guilty pleasures never lose their charm.

Since My Chemical Romance shocked fans by ending its hiatus in 2019, the band has gone on to dominate the rock music world with a brand new track and huge tours around the world.

In July 2026, the "Welcome to the Black Parade" hitmakers played huge sold-out shows in the United Kingdom, performing the iconic 2006 album The Black Parade in its entirety, followed by a B-side set of its greatest hits. The much-anticipated shows have placed the band at the top of people's playlists, and its music has been surging on the charts in recent weeks.

Multiple records from the rockers' discography have been hitting new highs on the U.K. charts, with one album in particular reaching the top spot for the first time ever, 16 years after its initial release.

Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys reached No. 1 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart this week after spending seven weeks climbing its way to the top of the chart. It's the first time that the album has reached the coveted first-place position.

Released on Nov. 22, 2010, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys is the fourth and most recent album from the band, having only released one new song — "The Foundations of Decay" — since reforming seven years ago.

Upon its release, the album peaked at No. 5 on the U.K. charts. In the U.S., it did not take the prime spot on the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 8, though it did top the U.S. Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums charts.

The album features a colorful storyline, taking place in a desolate, radioactive wasteland known as "The Zones," where rebels fight to stop an evil corporation bent on creating a colorless, emotionless, and tightly controlled society.

“The corporation in the videos, Better Living Inc., isn’t necessarily evil — it’s not the Killjoys’ way of life," singer Gerard Way told AltPress about the album's storyline. "The Killjoys are trying to blow up the world. And that’s what I’m trying to convey to kids: We’re not telling you to blow up the world. Good guys vs. bad guys; it’s not clear. You’ll see in the future that the Killjoys are not good people. I stopped becoming interested in rebellion a long time ago. I feel that this generation has no interest in it, either."

Queen's repertoire of hits has been known to push the envelope, with one of their 1978 tracks, "Bicycle Race," having caused a stir with its controversial music video and its unique inspiration.

By the late '70s, Queen was one of the world's leading rock groups, and "Bicycle Race" was another track that captured interest, in more ways than one. Written by Freddie Mercury, the song was released as part of their Jazz album, and as the double A-side single alongside "Fat Bottomed Girls." The reason for the song pairing will make sense once knowing what inspired Mercury to write "Bicycle Race."

The track did moderately well on the charts, landing at No. 24 on Billboard the following year, and did better across European countries when released. Mercury didn't create "Bicycle Race" out of thin air and instead got inspired while watching the Tour de France.

According to RideCyclonix, Queen were in Montreux, Switzerland, recording the album at the same time as the 1978 Tour de France. Mercury was soon struck with inspiration when one leg of the race zoomed past their window. Striking pen to paper, the rock icon soon developed a playful track full of social commentary, with references to religion, the Vietnam War, Watergate, drugs, and even movie franchises like Jaws and Star Wars.

"As I remember ... he actually wasn't very keen on riding his bicycle (if he even had one!) -- he preferred being driven in a Rolls Royce! But he created a character in the song, and this character can say what he wants, and he can ride his bicycle where he likes!" said Brian May, according to HuffPost.

While the song made references to not liking the George Lucas franchise, May said Mercury "liked Star Wars a lot." The track would soon gain infamy not only for its fun sound, but also for its controversial music video.

The video cemented "Bicycle Race" in pop culture history and as a hit anthem among fans. Directed by Denis de Vallance, Queen and their production team filmed a real bicycle race inside Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium in London. The catch? The cyclists were 65 nude women.

Queen knew they were pushing the boundaries, and they were right. While the original video used special effects to hide levels of nudity, it still led to it being banned or heavily censored in multiple countries. TV stations refused to air the video until the women were clothed and got an age-restriction rating. The rental company that also supplied the bicycles for the music video also learned how they were going to be used, and requested that Queen and the poroduction comapny buy all the seats.

"Bicycle Race" was described by critics as "a jaunty theatrical tribute to bike riding." Fans even sold out bicycle bells to use while the band played the track during their concerts, with the track having been included in one of their Greatest Hits albums.

Robert Downey Jr.'s adorable daughter, Avri Roel Downey, is stepping into the family business.

Downey Jr., 61, has earned acclaim over the years for diverse films ranging from Chaplin to Iron Man. After making headlines for his personal troubles in the past, the star is thriving in the moment. Happily married to producer Susan Downey since 2005, the star is allowing Avri, 11, one of his three children, to get a taste of the limelight.

TMZ.com is reporting that Avri has reportedly landed a role on a new television show. Avri's role is "Family Photo Kid" on a show tentatively titled Oswald, the site noted. She also has a great payday coming up thanks to the gig, with $1,246 set as the payment for a single day of shooting.

What Is Oswald About?

Details are skimpy about Oswald, but a few details floating around the Internet do make sense. Iron Man director Jon Favreau has had a Disney+ project in the works titled Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, about a rabbit that Walt Disney created before Mickey Mouse, eventually losing the rights to the character. Seeing as Downey Jr. and Favreau are tight from their work on several Iron Man films, it would make sense that Avri's first role would be with a director that her dad trusts.

Described as a live-action/animated hybrid, Favreau previously shared that the series is “being animated here in Spain at SPA Studios," and noted that it's expected to release in 2027. “All 2D animation by artists, human artists. It’s a beautiful story.”

According to Business Insider, Roberts has been a resident of Taos, New Mexico since 1995.

Joan Jettwrote "Cherry Bomb" with The Runawaysin 1975 when she was only 16 years old. Cherie Currie, who sang it, was also 16 when the song came out in 1976. Between them, they created one of the most defiant rock anthems in history. But the song's origin is more extraordinary than most people know. Jett didn't write "Cherry Bomb" in a studio or while sitting in her bedroom alone. She improvised its infamous chorus completely on the spot in an audition room because the song Currie had prepared couldn't be performed.

Cherie Currie arrived at her 1975 audition fully planning to sing Peggy Lee's "Fever." "Fever" is a slow, sultry jazz standard. The song that took its spot was two minutes and twenty seconds of pure angst and aggression. Nobody in that room could have predicted the distance between those two songs. The band wouldn't play "Fever," so Jett and manager Kim Fowleywrote the chorus of "Cherry Bomb" on the spot to test what Currie's voice could do. It was the first time Jett had ever written a song with anyone else.

That song was "Cherry Bomb."

Fowley explained the thinking behind the title. It played on Currie's name and conjured the image of "a teenage firecracker that's popular at the Fourth of July." Currie's voice was exactly what the song needed. A chorus written in haste to solve an audition issue became one of the most recognized rock anthems of the decade.

The Runaways didn't look like what you'd traditionally imagine a rock band to look like — five teenage girls in Los Angeles, most of them still in their teens. Jett was discovered when she swapped a ukulele for a guitar, playing along to a Sweet album.

Sandy West was discovered behind the Rainbow Bar and Grill. Jackie Fox was found in a parking lot. Currie was spotted in a teen club. The fifth member was Lita Ford, who'd go on to her own major solo career in the 1980s. The Runaways produced two of the most significant and iconic female guitarists in all of rock history before either of them was even out of their teens.

Fowley pitched them as "an all-girl answer to Grand Funk." The music industry wasn't sure what to do with them. They were too young, for many, to be taken seriously and, simultaneously, too loud to be ignored.

The world's response didn't stay confused for long. It turned hostile fast. Jett's talked about a beer bottle to the head, a cracked rib, and a battery thrown at her during shows. Currie described some European crowds as frenzied mobs that hated them. Rock magazines attacked their music or reduced them to their looks. They were dismissed with slurs. They kept playing.

While American crowds were throwing things at them, The Runaways were becoming superstars in Japan. Their 1977 Live in Japan album is still celebrated as one of the great live rock recordings. The band that nobody wanted in America was selling out arenas in Tokyo.

The song described "a young girl who's a bit of a handful." The young girls performing it were facing actual violence for daring to be there. The metaphor and the reality were the same.

The 16-Year-Old Who Wrote It Is Still Playing It at 67

Joan Jett kicked off 2026 with the Greenstone Summer Concert Tour alongside Iggy Pop and followed it with a five-night residency at House of Blues Las Vegas. "Cherry Bomb" still appears in her setlists. The woman who improvised its chorus at 16 in an audition room is still performing it at 67.

The road between those two moments wasn't smooth. After The Runaways disbanded, 23 record labels rejected Jett. She founded Blackheart Records with Kenny Laguna instead and built one of the most independent careers in rock history. Eight platinum and gold albums. Nine Top 40 singles. The girl the old folks called "a poor little fool" turned out to be rather more than that.

Tom Holland is all over this summer's blockbusters, and you've probably spotted him on TV as well.

He's been the face of those Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business advertisements that air on various cable channels, spots that also highlight another buzzy company: Bero.

Fans of the 31-year-old Spider-Man actor may already know he has his own non-alcoholic beer business, which just unveiled an exciting new collectible.

On Wednesday, July 22, Bero marked the release of Holland's upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day with a limited-edition collection of Spidey-inspired cans available exclusively here and at select movie theaters nationwide.

Timed to the film's July 31 theatrical release, the collectible Kingston Golden Pils six-packs feature custom Spider-Man artwork and are available at participating theaters, including Alamo Drafthouse and Studio Movie Grill, while supplies last.

Bero had taken to Instagram to tease Wednesday's revealing of the Spidey cans, with fans having flooded the since-swapped-out post's comments section with excitable posts such as, "Take all my money."

The '90s were a truly magical time for country music, and one of the decade's pioneering voices was undeniably Jo Dee Messina. With her fiery red hair, relatable lyrics, and powerhouse voice, Messina was an unstoppable force. While she had several songs chart for multiple weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, one of her most beloved hits was undoubtedly "Lesson in Leavin'."

The song is the ultimate breakup anthem, a tribute to scorned lovers everywhere and the delicious satisfaction of facing due karma. Years later, the sassy, fearless, and empowering song still has a chokehold on fans. In fact, Messina recently proved it when she posted a video of herself jamming out to her own tune in the car.

Fans were happy to chime in and reminisce about one of the songs that defined her career.

"Do you know you raised an entire generation of girls to know their worth?" asked one fan.

"I know every word to this song! My first husband was my target audience," quipped another.

"I learned this song at the age of 6 when my mom finally left my stepdad, & it still brings back the best memories of me & her in the car SCREAMING this at the top of our lungs! Hopefully, one day we can see you in concert," shared another.

What many may not realize, though, is that while Messina certainly breathed her own life into the track, the song was actually originally an '80s hit by another prolific country voice.

A History Lesson on "Lesson in Leavin'"

In 1980, songwriters Randy Goodrum and Brent Maher took "nervous tick" knee slaps and turned the catchy beat into a legendary anthem. The two felt so strongly about it that they had a very specific vision for the track, with none other than Dottie West at its center to crush the vocals.

“We thought about Dottie,” Goodrum recalled, according to American Songwriter. “We imagined her standing in the back door with a frying pan in her hand, and a wink in the eye, and a tongue in the cheek. And the song just sort of fell onto the page. In about an hour, maybe, we had the whole thing pretty much written. We took that to Dottie, and she just flipped out. And that turned out to be the core of the sound we were trying to create for her. We did build around it. We did some really nice sort of intelligent ballads for her.”

And it truly worked — West's version climbed to the top of the country charts and stayed there for 15 weeks. Combined with Jo Dee Messina's hit cover and the passionate reaction it still garners from fans today, calling it a timeless breakup anthem is more than fair.

“Seinfeld” alum Jason Alexander has issued an apology to Courtney Stodden after she took to Instagram, calling him out for an inappropriate comedy sketch the two did together when she was 17 years old.

In the Funny or Die sketch that went online in 2012, Alexander parodied some daytime talk shows, including "Dr. Phil," where he "repeatedly rubbed his phone across my breasts while saying there was 'no signal' in my head but 'plenty of signal' in my chest," according to Stodden.

"Later in the sketch, he joked that when I turned 18 he’d like to take me behind the couch and ‘have his way’ with me," she added in her Instagram post. "IMDb credits him as one of the writers of the episode. As an adult, that fact has become harder — not easier — for me to understand. I was a minor. I didn’t have the legal power to decide whether I wanted to participate. The contracts were signed by adults. The paycheck went to [ex-husband Doug Hutchison]. The production moved forward. I was the only child in the room. I felt so alone.”

"Looking back now, I don’t see comedy," Stodden continued. "I see a 17-year-old girl whose body became part of an adult joke. People still say, 'You chose to be there.' Legally, I couldn’t make those decisions for myself. That’s the point. I can’t change what happened to me but I can ask myself: How did so many adults look at a minor and decide this was acceptable? That’s exactly why I speak out today. Children deserve laws that protect them. They shouldn’t have to become adults before realizing the law should have protected them all along."

In response, Alexander issued a statement to TMZ where he apologized and took full responsibility for his actions.

"Looking back at the comedy sketch in which Ms. Stodden and I participated in 2012, I completely agree that it was inappropriate and I truly regret it,” he said. "But more importantly, I am deeply sorry for any harm or distress it has caused Ms. Stodden. I offer her my sincerest apologies.”

In 1970, rock singer and pianist Leon Russellreleased a track titled "A Song For You" that would become infamous among multiple musicians and would regain life across multiple genres since its release up until 2023.

Russell released his self-titled debut album at the start of the '70s, but never released the track as a single. Due to the track having only been a part of the album, it never entered the charts, but that didn't stop it from doing so thanks to other artists' covers. It's estimated that Russell's "A Song For You" has been covered over 200 times.

The track showcased Russell's musical talent as he sang, played piano, and played the tenor horn to convey the song's lyrics of a plea between lovers. Many believed the track was inspired by singer Rita Coolidge, with both having been romantically involved in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He had previously written "Delta Lady" about her in 1969.

According to The Church Studio, Russell denied the claims that the song was about Coolidge and said, "I wrote it for somebody I had an argument with…the person was very instrumental in teaching me about songwriting and writing in general." Some believe it was singer-songwriter Greg Dempsey, who was included in the album dedication.

When it came to the song's creation, Russell revealed it took him minutes and flowed out of him easily.

"I was in my studio in Hollywood and actually I was trying to write a standard. I was trying to write a blues song that Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles both could sing.... I wrote it in 10 minutes. It was for a specific occasion. And I went in there and wrote it very quickly...that happens sometimes. Sometimes they're very quick. It's almost as if one is not writing them, you know? Like they're coming from another place," he said to Atlantic City Weekly.

Shortly after "A Song For You" was released, it was first covered by Dusty Springfield and Andy Williams in 1971, and later by Donny Hathaway in 1972. Hathaway's live rendition of the track was the one to gain massive popularity and was even mistaken for having been his own work. The Carpenterswould also release their own version on the album of the same name.

Despite the track's popularity among artists, it never managed to become a No. 1 hit or rank high on the charts. It would go on to be covered by greats like Cher, Willie Nelson, Aretha Franklin, and Joe Cocker. In 1993, Ray Charles also released his cover, and it earned him a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.

Whitney Houston covered the track in 2009 with an uptempo for her final studio album. Look to You. Russell had reportedly watched her sing the track during a concert in 1991 that was created to honor the troops and their families after the Gulf War. He was so moved by her performance that he wrote a letter to her to express how much he enjoyed it, which he had never done before with other covers.

One of the last reported covers of "A Song For You was by Suzanne Somers as she sang her own version in a video clip for her own memorial.

Summer is the season of tank tops, sleeveless dresses and suddenly being very aware of your armpits in a way you weren't in January.

Dark underarms are one of those concerns that people rarely talk about openly but search for constantly, usually right before a beach trip or a wedding where bare arms are unavoidable. If you've noticed your underarms looking darker, dull or uneven and assumed it was just something you had to live with, a board-certified dermatologist would like a word.

Here's what's actually happening. Underarm skin is some of the most stressed skin on your body. It deals with daily shaving or waxing, friction from clothing, layers of deodorant and antiperspirant buildup, sweating and constant movement.

Dr. Alicia Zalka, board-certified dermatologist and founder of Surface Deep, explains that the skin responds to all of that irritation by thickening and producing more pigment as a form of self-defense.

Dr. Marisa Ponzo, double board-certified dermatologist, echoes this. "Shaving, friction, and deodorants are the biggest culprits," she tells Parade. "Repeated inflammation leads to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation."

The brightening skincare market has expanded well beyond the face, and there are now effective options designed specifically for underarm skin. The key is understanding which ingredients do the work, which ones to avoid and identifying and removing whatever is causing the irritation in the first place, because no brightening treatment will make lasting progress on skin that's still being stressed daily. So, here's how to get rid of dark armpits.

One important note before diving in: Dr. Viktoryia Kazlouskaya, owner of Dermatology Circle PLLC in NYC, and Dr. Maryam Zamani of Zamani Plastic Surgery, both flag that in some patients, underarm darkening may signal an underlying condition like acanthosis nigricans, which can be associated with insulin resistance or other metabolic disorders.

If your darkening seems sudden, extensive or is accompanied by velvety thickening of the skin, see a doctor before reaching for brightening products.

What Causes Dark Armpits?

Dark underarms are not a single condition—they're a symptom with multiple possible causes. "When the color becomes darker than usual or changes over time, it may be due to irritation from deodorants or antiperspirants, chronic friction, shaving habits, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or metabolic conditions," Kazlouskaya explains. "Because the treatment depends on the cause, it's best to see a board-certified dermatologist rather than simply trying to lighten the area."

Zalka explains that the skin responds to repeated irritation by thickening and producing extra pigment as self-protection—and the list of things that trigger that response is long.

Shaving, waxing, tight clothing, daily deodorant layering and sweating all contribute.

"The longer time spent being irritated, the more noticeable the darker color will be," she says.

Zamani adds that medium to deeper skin tones are particularly prone to developing discoloration after inflammation, since these skin types naturally produce more pigment in response to irritation.

What Ingredients To Look for in an Armpit Brightening Treatment

First things first: "Before reaching for brightening products, I recommend restoring the skin barrier with a gentle moisturizer and eliminating anything that may be causing irritation," Kazlouskaya tells Parade.

Once the skin is healthy, ingredients like lactic acid, kojic acid, vitamin C, azelaic acid, alpha-arbutin, niacinamide and thiamidol can gradually improve pigmentation while staying gentle on this sensitive area.

Ponzo adds that for more stubborn pigmentation, ingredients like hydroquinone or tretinoin may be appropriate under physician supervision.

What everyone agrees to avoid are fragrance, over-exfoliation and anything applied immediately after shaving when the barrier is already compromised.

How Long Does It Take for Armpit Brightening Treatments To Work?

Zalka's optimistic estimate is two weeks once the cause is removed—but that assumes the irritation has been addressed.

Ponzo puts the timeline at four to eight weeks for initial improvement, with more noticeable results by eight to twelve weeks with consistent use. Kazlouskaya adds that "hyperpigmentation is notoriously slow to improve," noting that it may take longer when the discoloration is driven by hormonal or metabolic factors.

The consistent message across all four experts is that results require both the right products and removing the source of irritation. One without the other doesn't get you very far.

Can You Brighten Dark Armpits at Home?

Yes, for most cases. Kazlouskaya's at-home protocol is practical. Use a moisturizer containing ammonium lactate, avoid fragranced deodorants, minimize friction from shaving or tight clothing and consider speaking with a primary care physician about screening for insulin resistance if the darkening is new or accompanied by velvety texture changes.

Zamani adds that switching to fragrance-free deodorants, improving shaving technique and reducing friction can make a significant difference in preventing discoloration from recurring.

Are Armpit Brightening Treatments Safe?

Generally yes, with appropriate caution. "Patients with darker skin tones should be especially careful to avoid overly aggressive treatments, since excessive inflammation increases the risk of additional post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation," Zamani warns.

Kazlouskaya recommends starting slowly—applying products every other night and stopping if significant burning or irritation develops. And all four experts agree that stronger actives should never go on freshly-shaved skin.

The Unanimous Winners: Why Chefs Swear by Canned Tomatoes and Beans

Although two chefs chose canned tomatoes and one championed canned beans, all three agreed that these pantry staples are among the most valuable ingredients a home cook can keep stocked.

Chef Tony Biggs calls canned tomatoes "incredibly versatile, affordable and available year-round at a consistent quality." He points out that unlike fresh tomatoes, which fluctuate with the season, canned tomatoes are "typically packed at peak ripeness, giving cooks a dependable ingredient that delivers excellent flavor every time."

Chef Billy Parisi echoed that sentiment, saying he always keeps San Marzano tomatoes on hand because they're "less acidic and sweeter than regular canned tomatoes," making them perfect for everything from pomodoro sauce to vegetable beef soup.

"I'm not sure there is another canned ingredient that is used more, both in the restaurant world and my house than tomatoes," he says. "There are only so many things you can do with black beans, corn, anchovies, olives, etc. that will have as much impact, or even be the hero of the dish, as tomatoes are."

Meanwhile, chef and registered dietitian Abbie Gellman made the case for canned beans as the ultimate convenience food. "It provides plant-based protein and complex carbohydrates plus it is extremely versatile and can be used so many different ways for any meal period or time of day," she says. "You can eat it as-is, puree them, add them to other dishes, mix with a bunch of different ingredients... Sky's the limit."

Biggs agrees that beans deserve just as much love. "A good can of cannellini, chickpeas or black beans can transform a simple meal into something hearty and nutritious within minutes," he says. "From a chef's perspective, canned beans are one of the smartest convenience products available."

How to Best Use Canned Tomatoes and BeansCanned Tomatoes

The beauty of these pantry staples is their versatility. For tomatoes, Biggs says the classics are just the beginning. "Of course, classic tomato sauce is an obvious choice, but I also love using canned tomatoes in beef braises, chili, shakshuka, tomato butter sauces and hearty soups." He also recommends thinking beyond traditional recipes by using tomato liquid in vinaigrettes, marinades or Bloody Mary mix, or blending tomatoes with roasted garlic and olive oil for homemade pizza sauce.

Parisi's list is equally impressive. "My favorite ways to use this sauce are in recipes like spaghetti sauce, Italian pot roast, goulash, pizza sauce or even chili," he says. "The applications are endless." He even suggests draining and dicing canned tomatoes into salads or incorporating them into barbecue sauce, Egyptian koshari or baked beans.

Beans are just as adaptable. Gellman says she regularly tosses them into salads or serves them as a simple side dish, but one of her favorite tricks is blending them into soups. "I love adding beans to pureed soups in place of dairy like cream," she explains. "It takes a typical vegetarian soup like butternut squash and adds protein and fiber without adding heavy cream or dairy."

Biggs also recommends pureeing cannellini beans into sauces and soups to create "natural creaminess without adding heavy cream," while chickpeas become homemade hummus and black beans bulk up chili, grain bowls and salads.

When shopping for canned tomatoes, both Biggs and Parisi emphasize reading the label.

Biggs recommends San Marzano D.O.P. products, Cento, Bianco DiNapoli and Muir Glen. "I look for tomatoes packed in their own juice with minimal ingredients—ideally just tomatoes, tomato juice and perhaps basil or a touch of salt," he says. He also avoids products with excessive citric acid, calcium chloride or unnecessary additives.

Parisi also favors San Marzano tomatoes with the D.O.P. certification. "The easiest thing to look for is the D.O.P. on the label," he says. "That is the signature of approval that they are what they say they are and where they come from." His go-to brands include Cento, Isola, Mutti, Rega and Strianese. Even outside of San Marzano varieties, he says he avoids tomatoes containing citric acid because "it can really overpower the tomato."

Best Canned Beans

Bush's Best Beans

For canned beans, Gellman recommends looking for low-sodium or no-added-sodium varieties. "I prefer low-sodium or no-added-sodium canned beans so that I can drain and rinse them without overdoing my salt intake," she says.

Her preferred brands include Bush's Beans and Eden Organic. Choosing lower-sodium options gives home cooks more control over seasoning while still delivering all the convenience canned beans offer.

Are Canned Foods as Nutritious as Fresh?

All three chefs agree that canned foods deserve more credit nutritionally.

"Fresh is wonderful when tomatoes are in peak season and locally grown," Biggs says. "However, for much of the year, canned tomatoes can actually offer superior flavor because they are harvested and packed at their ripest point." He also notes that canned tomatoes are rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that becomes even more concentrated during processing.

Parisi acknowledges that fresh tomatoes may contain slightly more vitamin C and that canned versions often have more sodium, but says the overall value is hard to beat. American Songwriter shared a quote from Wilson that he penned for the 1990 Surfer Girl/Shut Down, Vol. 2 reissue liner notes. “I had a room, and I thought of it as my kingdom,” Wilson wrote. “And I wrote that song, very definitely, that you’re not afraid when you’re in your room. It’s absolutely true.”

He explained why the song was so important to him. It evoked memories of times shared with Dennis and Carl, when they learned to sing harmony together as young men.

In the same liner notes, Wilson continued, ”When Dennis, Carl, and I lived in Hawthorne [California] as kids, we all slept in the same room. One night, I sang the song ‘Ivory Tower’ to them, and they liked it. Then a couple of weeks later, I proceeded to teach them both how to sing the harmony parts to it. It took them a little while, but they finally learned it."

He concluded, "We then sang this song night after night. It brought peace to us. When we recorded ‘In My Room,’ there was just Dennis, Carl, and me on the first verse, and we sounded just like we did in our bedroom all those nights. This story has more meaning than ever since Dennis’ death.”

Wilson's daughter, Carnie Wilson, shared her thoughts about the song in a Facebook post. She wrote, “In My Room” will always hold a special place in my heart. One of my dad’s most beautiful songs, filled with comfort, peace, and honesty."

Decades after its release, the song still hits the same way it did in 1963. It’s simple, personal, and a permanent standout in the Beach Boys' legacy.

A powerful love song that debuted back in 1987 has just been declared the best song of the '80s by devoted music fans. The track in question is Starship's hit duet, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now."

The song earned the impressive title thanks to a poll put on by SiriusXM. In June, the 80s on 8 radio channel asked fans to vote for the top 80 songs of the '80s. Fans shared their thoughts, and the resulting list was revealed on the channel at the start of July. A listener compiled the list and shared it online as well.

"Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" took the No. 1 spot on the official Top 80 of the '80s list, beating out many major names and beloved songs. In second place was Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror," followed by A-ha's "Take On Me."

The track was originally released as a single on Starship's 1987 album No Protection. Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas power the enduring love song with their emotional vocals. The song also served as the theme for the romantic-comedy film Mannequin.

When it was first released in the late '80s, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" was a hit. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. and soared up the charts in other countries. The track was also a No. 1 hit in Canada, the U.K., Ireland, and Portugal.

With its history, it's not a huge surprise for the Starship power ballad to come out on top as the best song of the '80s in the new poll. But there were also many more timeless classics on the list.

Just in the Top 10 alone, there was also Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," George Michael's "One More Try," and Jackson's "Billie Jean." This was followed by Huey Lewis and the News' "The Power of Love," Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer," Van Halen's "Jump," and Prince's "When Doves Cry."

There are also a handful of artists included on the list multiple times, like Foreigner, Wham, Rick Astley, and Whitney Houston. While Starship is not one of them, the song "Never Gonna Stop Us Now" made enough of an impact on its own to beat all the other popular '80s songs.

Sharon Osbourne is sharing one heartfelt way fans of her late husband, rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, can pay tribute to The Prince of Darkness on the first anniversary of his death.

In an interview with BBC Radio WM published on Wednesday, July 22—the one-year anniversary of Ozzy's death at age 76 following a battle with Parkinson's disease—Sharon told fans to remember him by playing their music "really loud."

"As Ozzy would say, 'When you want to remember me, just yank up the music really loud, as loud as you can get it, and just head bang,'" Sharon, 73, continued.

Looking back on her four decades of marriage to the Black Sabbath rocker, Sharon described him as "authentic" over anything. "He never tried to be anything other than what he was, and he would tell you the truth about everything, and that was him; you knew where you were with him," she told the BBC, praising her late husband as "so genuine and funny," even in hard times.

"I mean we could have the worst arguments in the world but we would end up laughing because he would say something so ridiculous that we would just crack up," The Talkpersonality added.

As she marks the first anniversary of Ozzy's passing, Sharon made sure to visit the musician's hometown of Birmingham for its first-ever Ozzy Day celebration. Less than three weeks before his death, Ozzy performed alongside Black Sabbath at the band's Back to the Beginning concert in Birmingham's Villa Park to raise money for Cure Parkinson's, Acorns Children's Hospice and Birmingham Children's Hospital's charity.

Sharon assured the BBC that Ozzy's passion for charity will be honored after his death, especially when it comes to the support of Parkinson's research. "We will continue that until we find a cure for Parkinson's, because people don't realise it's more and more prevalent," Sharon said, adding of her late love, "He was just a real bloke, a really good bloke with a big heart and he wanted to give back."

Cruisers hoping to soar across one of the world's longest over-water ziplines or lounge on the white-sand beaches of Labadee will have to wait significantly longer than expected.

Royal Caribbean Group has officially extended its suspension of ship calls to Labadee, its private resort destination on the northern coast of Haiti, through June 2027. The prolonged pause comes as the region continues to face widespread gang violence and ongoing political instability, which triggered a Level 4 "Do Not Travel" advisory—the highest risk warning issued by the U.S. Department of State.

While the private, walled-off peninsula is located roughly six miles northwest of Cap-Haïtien and operates independently from the surrounding area, the cruise line confirmed that the decision was made to prioritize passenger and crew safety while conditions in the country remain uncertain.

"As we continue to evaluate conditions in Haiti and our ability to deliver the best vacations responsibly, we have decided to extend the suspension of ship calls to Labadee through June 2027," a Royal Caribbean Group spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

"This decision was made with the safety and well-being of our guests and crew members in mind. We have communicated these changes directly with guests."
