By the time that Debbie Gibson released her debut album, Out of the Blue, in August of 1987, she already had years of experience writing songs, producing music, and performing in front of large audiences, but it was that project and one track in particular that showcased the full extent of her talent — “Foolish Beat.”

The first three singles from Out of the Blue — “Only in My Dreams,” “Shake Your Love,” and the title track — found success on the charts, but it was “Foolish Beat,” which became Gibson’s first major hit. The track topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart on June 25, 1988, making the Brooklyn, New York native the youngest person ever to write, record, and produce a No. 1 song all on her own — a milestone that put her in the Guinness Book of World Records. 

Gibson’s record stood for nearly 20 years, according to American Songwriter, until 2007 when Soulja Boy (formerly Soulja Boy Tell 'Em) claimed the title with “Crank That (Soulja Boy)."

Featuring a pop melody, synths, and saxophone, “Foolish Beat” is a tender ballad that finds Gibson reflecting on the aftermath of a relationship that didn’t work out. A timeless heartbreak anthem, the tune shares a universal yet vulnerable message that oftentimes it’s easier to lead with one's heart instead of one's head.  

“I wanted to write my own haunting breakup ballad,” Gibson shared of the song in a quote posted on her official website. “I drew on experiences from my older sisters and my limited puppy love experiences.”

In addition to the U.S., “Foolish Beat” became an international success, charting in the U.K., Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.

Gibson was only 17 years old when she released “Foolish Beat” on March 25, 1988, which means she was still a teenager who was focused on graduating high school. A standout student, though, she graduated with honors from Sanford H. Calhoun High School in the summer of that same year.  

After breaking through with her debut album, Gibson’s next project, Electric Youth, featured her second No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Lost in Your Eyes,” but she wouldn’t go on to repeat that success a third time. Still, Gibson continues to release music, and in her adult years, she went on to establish herself as a Broadway star, playing roles in Les Misérables, Grease, and more.

Eric Ellis, best known as the former guitarist for Bury Your Dead, is making his long-awaited return to the stage along with an exciting announcement.

Following his comeback to the music scene in 2025, the 42-year-old musician has been teasing fans with surprises, this time announcing an upcoming live performance.

With his newly launched hardcore music project Ellis, the guitarist, alongside fellow musicians Wolf Riddle, Giovanni Casanova and Jon Rykard, is set to deliver a high-intensity performance on Aug. 1 at Hardlove in Jacksonville, Florida.

The quartet will take the stage as a supporting act during Southpaw FLHC’s album release show celebrating its new record, The Standard.

Interestingly, the upcoming event will not only mark the band’s official live debut but also Eric Ellis’ first live performance in nearly two decades.

He departed Bury Your Dead in 2008, citing "medical reasons" and "personality differences."

A few years after leaving the band, the guitarist faced a major controversy after he was convicted of conspiracy and violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act in late 2012.

This was due to his involvement in a violent Jacksonville gang, and he was officially sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.

Last year, he was released from prison after serving 14 years behind bars.

In an Instagram post, he revealed that he is continuing his musical journey and hinted at more projects to come.

“This has been an amazing journey and I appreciate everyone that has been here with me for the ride. There is certainly more to come, I’LL SEE YOU NEXT MONTH!” he said in a post shared in November 2025.

With renewed momentum and his official return to the music scene, Eric Ellis is gearing up for more performances with his new band.

Ellis Releases Debut Single

Before announcing the upcoming live performance, Ellis introduced its music through its debut single, “Manners.”

After months of teasing fans with what was next, the band recently dropped the official music video, showcasing a mix of modern hardcore and metalcore alongside Eric Ellis’ signature heavy guitar riffs that became synonymous with his time in Bury Your Dead.

“Manners” is part of the six-song EP titled The Answer, released digitally on July 2.

Few songs could fill a dance floor as easily as they could take over the radio.

In 1978, the Bee Gees proved it with "Night Fever," a single that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 18. It remained there for eight weeks, the longest run at the top for any song that year.

The hit came during an extraordinary stretch for Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. "How Deep Is Your Love" had recently topped the chart, followed by "Stayin' Alive." When "Night Fever" took over, it replaced "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" by their younger brother Andy Gibb, which the Bee Gees had also written.

"Night Fever" was written by all three brothers for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Its easy rhythm and smooth falsetto vocals gave the song a softer melodic quality without losing the energy that made it a disco favorite. Rather than sounding tied to one moment, it had the kind of polished sound that continued to fit comfortably on soft rock and oldies radio long after the disco era ended.

The song also played a role in naming the movie. The film had been shortened from its original working title, Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night, to Saturday Night. The Bee Gees suggested adding "Fever," borrowing from "Night Fever," and the final title was born. The song plays during one of John Travolta's group dance scenes in the film.

"I think the most important aspect of the film itself was the marriage of the movie and music because that is very rare," Maurice Gibb later said in a talk.

That connection helped make both the movie and its music nearly impossible to separate. The soundtrack spent 24 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and became the only disco album to win the Grammy for Album of the Year.

Nearly five decades later, "Night Fever" still carries the unmistakable sound of 1978. Its chart run placed it among the Bee Gees' biggest hits, while its melody helped it endure as both a disco classic and a soft rock anthem.

Few modern novels have spread through word of mouth quite like Toshikazu Kawaguchi's Before the Coffee Gets Cold.

Originally published in 2015, the bestselling novel has now earned another major distinction after being included on Pan Macmillan's list of the 50 best books of all time. The recognition places it alongside literary classics by authors such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, George Orwell and Charles Dickens, underscoring its remarkable global impact.

The novel grew from an unusual beginning.

Before becoming an international bestseller, Before the Coffee Gets Cold began life as a stage play written by Kawaguchi. Set almost entirely inside a small Tokyo café, the story revolves around a mysterious chair that allows customers to travel back in time provided they follow a strict set of rules, including returning before their coffee grows cold.

"Before the Coffee Gets Cold was the veryfirst novel that I wrote, and when I
started to write, I realized that I was immature as a writer and didn't have a clue how to start," Kawaguchi told Hoopla Book Club. "Yet during the process of translating my play into a novel, I tried to be very careful about one thing, which is to capture the same vibe as in the play so that the audience who watched the play won’t have a sense of discomfort when reading the novel, and vice versa."

Rather than focusing on changing history, the novel explores something more personal.

Through interconnected stories, Kawaguchi examines regret, forgiveness, family, grief and the importance of cherishing the present. Each character is given an opportunity to revisit a meaningful moment from the past, but the novel emphasizes that while the past itself cannot be changed, people can change how they understand it.

"What is really important to me when I'm writing, is relatability," Kawaguchi told Sesay Arts. "So readers are able to think, 'That's happened to me! I totally get that!'"

That emotional approach has resonated with readers worldwide.

Following its English-language publication in 2019, Before the Coffee Gets Cold became an international bestseller and sparked a series of companion novels that expanded the world of the café. The book's blend of magical realism, gentle storytelling and universal themes has made it a favorite among book clubs and readers looking for uplifting contemporary fiction.

Its popularity has continued to grow through social media.

The novel has become a fixture on online reading communities, particularly among BookTok and Goodreads readers, who have praised its heartfelt storytelling and memorable characters. Its enduring popularity has helped introduce Kawaguchi's work to millions of readers outside Japan and established the series as one of the most successful translated fiction franchises of recent years.

Now, with its inclusion on Pan Macmillan's list of the greatest books of all time, Before the Coffee Gets Cold has received yet another testament to its lasting appeal. What began as an intimate stage play has become a worldwide literary phenomenon, proving that stories about hope, connection and second chances can resonate across cultures and generations.

It wasn’t that long ago that Harvest Season destroyed readers with a cliffhanger ending that made us wonder if there was any hope for Harper and Nolan. Now the wait is on for the third novel in the Seasons of Carnage series.

Brynne Weaver has taken to social media to share all the details we need right now. Not only do we have a title for the third and final novel in this series, but we also have a cover reveal and publication date!

The bad news is we have a bit of a wait on our hands. The official publication date is April 6, 2027. This is a similar wait time to the one we had for the second book. It took around nine months for the most recent release after the release of Tourist Season in September 2025. Now we have to wait around 10 months for the third installment.

When Parade chatted with Weaver, she had shared that the third book was already complete. There was hope that it would mean a slightly shorter wait time, but we all know that these dark romance novels are more than worth the wait.

Weaver shared the cover of the upcoming release in a post with the confirmed title, Hunting Season. It’s a blue cover that continues to highlight Harper and Nolan together via silhouettes. They’re holding shovels and are surrounded by jack o’lanterns, indicating that they could end up together after all!

This is despite Harper being sure that Nolan is a traitor, using her trust to gain secrets and information to use against her. What she doesn’t yet realize is that Sheriff Yates is the main protagonist, and he has manipulated everything into turning Harper and Nolan against each other. Can the two see past the torture their adversary has put them through? Is there any way through the darkness?

This is the final book in the series. While we could end up seeing Harper and Nolan mentioned in future books — as we have already seen Sloan, a.k.a. Blackbird, mentioned in Tourist Season — Weaver has shared that she would like to set novels in another universe. That was the original plan for Seasons of Carnage, but then Autumn Bower came up as a protagonist, so you just never know!

For now, preorders for Hunting Season are open, with the publication date set for April 6, 2027.

In 1958, a successful teen idol recorded a song written by a fellow young music star that would go on to make history and become a timeless heartbreak anthem. The youngsters in question? Ricky Nelson and Sharon Sheeley.

Penned by a tender-aged 15-year-old Sheeley, the classic hit, "Poor Little Fool," is a rock heartbreak song reportedly inspired by her own relationship with Don Everly of the Everly Brothers, according to Genius. It tells the story of a young man falling in love with a young woman who promised to stick around, only for her carefree heart to roam on to other men. He describes her "devil eyes" and a heart "full of lies" and calls himself a "poor little fool" for ever trusting her.

"But when I met that little girl / I knew that I would fall / Poor little fool, oh yeah," the lyrics express. "She'd play around and teased me / With her carefree devil eyes / She'd hold me close and kiss me / But her heart was full of lies."

Recorded by Nelson at 18, Sheeley was 17 when the track became a No. 1 hit. "Poor Little Fool" made music history by becoming the first-ever chart-topper on the Billboard Hot 100. The famed magazine published that historic first list for Aug. 4, 1958, with Nelson holding the top spot.

"What’s not always remembered is that while Billboard dropped the Most Played By Jockeys and Top 100 Sides charts when it introduced the Hot 100, it retained Best Selling Pop Singles In Stores for another two months. 'Poor Little Fool' led that list on August 4 and 11, just as it did the Hot 100," uDiscover Music noted.

At the time, Nelson was young, but no stranger to fame, and his rise contributed to the teen idol phenomenon. Before reigning supreme on Billboard's new chart format, the Teaneck, N. J.-native had already earned at least four Top 5 hits with “A Teenager’s Romance,” “Be-Bop Baby,” “Stood Up,” and “Believe What You Say.” Prior to music, he and his family starred in the radio and TV seriesThe Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, in which he began filming at around eight years old.

His fame in the music industry and on-screen also led to a motion picture role alongside John Wayne, Dean Martin, Walter Brennan, and Angie Dickinson in Howard Hawk's western feature film Rio Bravo (1959). In total, he had 54 songs hit the Billboard Hot 100 (and its predecessors) between 1957 and 1973.

Nearly seven decades later, "Poor Little Fool" remains a timeless classic and a staple of the genre. Nelson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame posthumously on Jan. 21, 1987.

The history-making star died at the age of 45 on Dec. 31, 1985, in a plane crash.

Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro continued its competition tonight with the nine remaining dancers facing a group performance and a solo elimination.

Hosted by wildlife conservationist and Dancing with the Stars Season 34 Len Goodman Mirrorball Champion Robert Irwin, Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro, began with 12 exceptional up-and-coming dancers who moved into one house to compete in a grueling audition process, all vying for a coveted spot as a pro dancer on Season 35 of Dancing with the Stars.

Three-time Mirrorball champion Mark Ballas and his mother, Shirley Ballas, “The Queen of Latin,” served as judges.

“I want to see a dancer make it impossible to turn them down,” Shirley said of judging the competition. “I want to witness a start being born.”

The challenge for Night 3 was mentored by Britt Stewart: a group performance that required the dancers to master a high-intensity routine in just hours, putting teamwork, timing and resilience to the test in the “You’re Only as Strong as the Weakest Link” episode.

“One of the most popular elements of Dancing with the Stars is the times we dance as a group,” Britt said. “For example, the massive opening numbers. Often, they include non-ballroom styles and really give the show spectacle and scale. It’s such a vital part of becoming a pro, so this week’s challenge is dancing as a group.”

Here’s how the night broke down:

During rehearsals, Natalie was hit in the face and she was taken away under medical supervision.

After three hours of rehearsal, Britt announced that it was time to perform the group dance as he pros on DWTSonly get three hours of rehearsals for the opening numbers. She was joined by Mark and Shirley for judging.

“First of all, as a group, it was pretty difficult [to judge who was the weakest], but there was one person that was ahead by a whole bar in the tele spins and that person was Tristen,” Shirley critiqued.

Mark added, “For me, it was rushing music, slightly ahead, not being spatially aware of your partner. Unfortunately, it’s going to be Nina.”

“Tristen and Nina, you are not on the chopping block yet,” Britt reassured them. “There will be a second challenge to prove what you have for the judges.”

 The second challenge for the night was team dances. The dancers were broken into two teams. Since Nina and Tristen were singled out by the judges during the group dance, they were given the challenge of being team captains.

“Team dances are a Dancing with the Stars classic,” Britt said. “Your teams should have clever choreography, the partnerships should be creative, you need to be in sync and dynamic. Just because you are the team captain does not mean you have to lead. Be smart about who’s on your team and play to everyone’s strengths.”

Nina chose Allen, AJ, and Adele and Tristen went with Stephani, Selena, and Erik. Team Nina was assigned the tango, while Team Tristen got paso doble.

Britt said: “The beginning was dynamic, it was powerful. The guys’ cape work, good; the girls coming forward, so strong. Really good job. However, I felt like you were out there as individuals. You didn’t necessarily find that connection within each other, which is so important. Tristen, you had a really tough time during the group dance and I was hoping you would really step it up. Unfortunately, you looked a bit lost.”

Mark said: “Selena, I love watching you but today, I felt your spatial awareness was lacking. I could see Stephani really locking in with you and you not seeing her at times, so there were cues off.”

Shirley said: “There was a directness missing a little bit and peripheral vision. Knee walks were off, the back kicks were off. I did find that Stephanie, you were very, very aware. I can tell you this, I could tell you had been in groups before and Erik the same. Your peripheral was not bad at all. You said you all had a play in this. Sometimes it’s better to have one person directing and one person cleaning because when you look back at this, you’re going to see a lot of arms off, over turned.”

Mark said: “Allen, you fell. There’s a lot going on and sometimes you fall over. But you got up quick. We didn’t even notice. We’ve all fallen over. It’s fine. You got up quick. You carried on. It was very well saved. Nina, so much improvement today. You’re the team captain. You made the right choice in letting some delegation happen. You worked together as a team. Something I want you to continuously work on because you did improve on today is the timing. You guys did the swivels side by side, they were completely locked in.”

Shirley said: “I have a concern or two about the timing. When you went into the swivels, Nina, you were in the very safe hands of AJ. I will be curious to see you have to choreograph for a celebrity.”

Mark butted in: “I do want to argue with you a little. Yeah, she had a great lead from AJ, but he is not picking her feet up off the floor. When they did those swivels side to side, those feet were like this.”

Shirley continued: “No, no, no. It was not a criticism. It was an observation. Adele, you are a phenomenal lady dancer. You have a great musical ear. You can follow when you need to follow, and you can assert when you need to assert, but the star for me today was AJ. In the first two weeks, you were a little self-absorbed. It is not about you; it is about being very connected to your teammates and today you were humble, you had humility, you worked as a team and you brought yourself down a peg or two.”

Britt said: “I am so impressed with what I just saw because you pushed the boundaries. I know as traditional dancers that was out of your comfort zone. Good job.”

Then it was time for the elimination.

“The team that impressed us the most due to its synchronicity, their working together was Team Tango,” Shirley said.

That meant they were safe from elimination, and it would be someone from Team Paso Doble going home.

“The first dancer up for elimination is a great solo dancer, but inside the group didn’t actually have the peripheral awareness, so the first person in jeopardy is Selena,” Shirley announced.

“The second dancer in jeopardy started out really strong but throughout the dance lost confidence and a little bit of steam,” Mark added. “The dancer that is in jeopardy is Tristen.”

Neither contestant, however, was eliminated as Natalie’s injury earlier kept her from being medically cleared to compete, and so she was eliminated.

“I am really sad and disappointed that I won’t be able to continue in this competition,” Natalie said. “But the most important thing is to take care of my body so I can dance again.”

Deckhand Luke Brumer's final charter on Below Deck Mediterranean ended much as viewers expected, but his departure was quickly overshadowed by two unexpected crises.

As a powerful overnight storm jolted Captain Sandy Yawn awake and sent the crew scrambling to secure the yacht, bosun Nathan Gallagher was nowhere to be found during the team's first hour of work, leaving everyone wondering where he had gone.

The episode revealed Nathan wasn't simply missing from his duties—he was dealing with a personal emergency. After another sleepless night caring for their newborn, his girlfriend, Gael Cameron, reached her breaking point. When Nathan returned to their bungalow, Gael admitted she could no longer handle the stress, exhaustion, and isolation of caring for their son alone, forcing Nathan to choose family over the job just as the crew prepared for worsening weather—two crew members down.

Weather in the Mediterranean can be as unpredictable as a newborn. Captain Sandy previously told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that conditions can change in an instant, with powerful winds appearing seemingly out of nowhere. In a 2019 interview, she recalled experiencing a sudden storm while a yacht owner was on board, when winds unexpectedly reached 70 to 100 knots on what had been a clear, calm day.

“It’s like the mountains burped,” she said. “It’s so weird. It was 100 knots of wind for 15 minutes. But then it calmed right down. But the Med is really unpredictable.”

While the storm that hit the Akira One crew wasn't quite as extreme, it still created a dangerous situation. With both Nathan and Luke unavailable, the remaining deck team scrambled to protect the yacht as heavy rain and powerful winds battered the vessel.

"This storm came in fast and furious," Captain Sandy said in a confessional. "The boat's being blown everywhere." She added, "Our bow's coming over; we're leaning so hard on that boat. I'm thinking ... are the sides gonna pop?"

Captain Sandy, lead deckhand Joe Bradley, and deckhand Cooper Dawson worked to secure lines and stabilize the yacht amid the chaotic conditions. "I need Joe and Cooper to take in on the anchors before we cause damage," Captain Sandy said.

The crew successfully secured the yacht, and Joe sent Nathan a message explaining everything that had happened overnight.

But Nathan was still MIA the next day.

As Captain Sandy searched for a replacement for Luke, the crew began growing concerned about Nathan's absence. Joe and Cooper, who were already covering extra responsibilities on deck, questioned why the bosun was so late for his shift.

"This is unacceptable," they said.

Captain Sandy was also frustrated when she realized Nathan still hadn't returned to the boat.

"We discussed he could go home and see his family when we're off charter as long as he comes back on time," Captain Sandy said in a confessional. "It's very disrespectful, it's unacceptable and frankly it's out of character. I just hope everything's okay and if it is, he has some explaining to do."

When Captain Sandy texted Nathan to remind him he was nearly an hour late, he responded that he was on his way back to the boat.

Nathan finally arrived with only two hours remaining before the next charter. While he apologized and explained he had been dealing with "family stuff," Joe wasn't impressed with how Nathan handled the situation or what it meant for his leadership as bosun.

The episode ended with Nathan heading to the bridge, where Captain Sandy prepared to ask where he had been.

So, what happened to Nathan? Viewers will have to wait until next week to find out.

Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy have reunited 41 years after starring together in The Breakfast Club.

Released in 1985, the beloved John Hughes film follows five teenagers from different high school cliques who spend a Saturday in detention together. Ringwald played the popular Claire Standish, while Sheedy portrayed the quiet loner Allison Reynolds.

In an Instagram post shared on Sunday, July 26, Ringwald documented the pair's reunion after a performance of her Off-Broadway play, Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been, at New York City Center.

"Very special week! My sister, Beth + my movie sister from another mister, Ally, came to see me onstage! 💗," Ringwald wrote alongside a photo of the actresses embracing. "Come see "Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been" at NY City Center! Only till Aug 2!"

Legendary singer-songwriter Kate Bush was never afraid of shocking people with her music from the start of her career. One of her earliest singles, "Wow," did just that, with a music video that the BBC banned for its risqué nature.

The song was the second single on her second album Lionheart, originally released when the album came out in 1978. It was released again as a single the next year.

Bush's previous single "Hammer Horror" didn't do as well as expected compared to her singles from her first album, The Kick Inside. It didn't even break into the Top 40 on the U.K. charts.

But this ended up being just a fluke, as "Wow" was a success. "Wow" peaked at No. 14 on the U.K. Singles Chart, while it also did just as well in other countries like Ireland and Canada.

The song was written as a critique of the shallow nature of the show business. It includes lines like, "You say we're fantastic/ But still we don't head the bill," and "We'd give you a part, my love/ But you'd have to play the fool."

But it wasn't just the song that was hard-hitting. The original music video for "Wow," which features Bush singing on stage in a purple dress, was a little too provocative during one part of the song for the BBC.

According to The Guardian, the music video was censored by the media network because they were "allegedly horrified by the sight of Kate Bush patting her bum while singing 'he’s too busy hitting the Vaseline.'"

In a 1978 interview about her music and career, Bush talked about the meaning behind "Wow." She noted, "There are so many terrible things in the business that you hear about, like people trying to rip you off and actresses sleeping their way up to the top."

But Bush explained that there is still "magic" to the business, adding, "You can't get rid of that incredible rush and feeling that you get when you're up there on the stage."

Even almost 50 years after "Wow" was initially released, the song still resonates with fans of Bush and people who have experienced show business themselves. It's one of many timeless classics from Bush.
