A Cardiologist Says This Common Kitchen Item Could Be Damaging Your Heart
As we get older, it becomes more apparent just how important it is not to take heart health for granted.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, roughly 14.3% of US adults ages 65 to 74 and 24.2% of adults 75 and older have diagnosed heart disease. The number of people with high blood pressure (hypertension) is even more startling. A full 72.8% of men ages 60 to 69 and 64.8% of women ages 60 to 69 have high blood pressure, according to the CDC.

If reversing or avoiding cardiovascular health conditions like these is one of your health goals, you likely already know the basics of eating with heart health in mind. Vegetables, whole grains, plant-based proteins and lean meats make up the bulk of your diet and you no longer season everything with salt the way you perhaps used to.
Certainly, what you eat and drink is hugely important for heart health. But it’s not just what’s on the table that matters. There’s a very high likelihood that a common kitchen staple is in your pantry or fridge that could be increasing your blood pressure and risk for heart disease without you even realizing it.
The Common Kitchen Item That Could Be Bad for Your HeartAccording to a scientific article published in Nature Reviews Cardiology, regular high exposure to bisphenol A (BPA) can cause a sharp increase in blood pressure and inflammation and increase the risk of heart disease.
BPA is an industrial chemical and one way it’s commonly used is to coat the interior of metal cans to prevent corrosion and increase shelf life. That means if you regularly eat foods from BPA-lined cans or drink beverages in BPA-lined cans, you could unknowingly be increasing your risk of high blood pressure and heart disease.
“BPA is an endocrine-disrupting chemical that can impair the normal function of blood vessels. It increases oxidative stress, reduces nitric oxide—the molecule that keeps arteries relaxed—and promotes constriction of vessels. These changes can temporarily increase vascular resistance and blood pressure,” says Dr. Sanjay Rajagopalan, MD, MBA, FACC, FAHA, a cardiologist and a professor of cardiovascular medicine at Case Western Reserve University’s School of Medicine.
To this point, according to a study published in Hypertension, people who consumed beverages in cans with BPA had a urinary concentration of more than 1,600% compared to people who consumed beverages in glass bottles.
On top of that, Dr. Rajagopalan notes that experimental studies suggest BPA can alter calcium handling and electrical signaling in heart cells, potentially leading to abnormal heart rhythms. “Most of this mechanistic evidence comes from laboratory and animal studies, while human evidence remains more limited,” he says.

How Much of a Risk Is It?While scientific research does show a connection between regular BPA exposure and a risk to heart health, it’s important to keep this risk in perspective. “For most people, eating an occasional food from a BPA-lined can is unlikely to cause harm. The concern is with repeated, long-term exposure from multiple sources, particularly in individuals with hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes or kidney disease,” Dr. Rajagopalan says.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about how BPA exposure impacts health. While studies do show that consuming foods and drinks from BPA-lined cans can raise urinary BPA levels and a small increase in blood pressure shortly after consuming, Dr. Rajagopalan explains that whether these short-term changes translate into meaningful long-term cardiovascular risk is still being studied.
“Overall, BPA should be viewed as a modifiable environmental risk factor, not one of the major drivers of cardiovascular disease like smoking, hypertension or high cholesterol,” he says.

How To Lower Your RiskBesides cans, Dr. Rajagopalan says that other common household items containing BPA include polycarbonate food containers and older reusable plastic bottles, plastic containers exposed to heat and some epoxy coatings used in bottle caps, jar lids and water pipes.
The best way to lower your risk is to use glass instead of plastic whenever possible. “Fortunately, most food and beverage manufacturers have moved away from BPA-containing can linings in the US,” he says.
However, he specifies that “BPA-free” doesn’t always mean risk-free. “Some manufacturers replaced BPA with closely related chemicals such as BPS or BPF, a phenomenon known as ‘regrettable substitution.’ These compounds may have similar endocrine-disrupting properties. The good news is that most modern BPA-free cans now use non-bisphenol coatings, such as polyester, acrylic, olefin or oleoresin-based linings, which appear more promising from a toxicologic standpoint, although long-term human safety data are still evolving,” he tells Parade.
Consuming foods or liquids stored in BPA-lined cans is something to be mindful of, but it bears repeating that its impact on heart health is still much lower than risks, such as smoking or regularly consuming foods or drinks that can raise cholesterol or blood pressure.
Reduce your exposure when you can, but don’t obsess over it. After all, stress is bad for your heart too.

Eric Roberts Breaks His Silence After Missing His Daughter’s Wedding
Emma Roberts celebrated a major milestone over the weekend, but her father, actor Eric Roberts, was not among the family members gathered for her Idaho wedding.
The American Horror Story star, 35, married actor Cody John in an intimate outdoor ceremony on Saturday, July 25, at a private residence in Sun Valley, Idaho. Her aunt, Julia Roberts, attended the wedding with her husband, Danny Moder, while Emma’s 5-year-old son, Rhodes, walked her down the aisle.
Eric, 70, was notably absent from the celebration.
The actor has now addressed his decision to miss the wedding, telling Page Six that he continues to love his daughter and supports the choices she makes. The comments come amid years of public speculation about the father-daughter relationship.
Eric and Emma’s relationship has been complicated in the public eye for years, though Eric pushed back against the idea that they are simply estranged during an April 2026 appearance on the Really Famous With Kara Mayer Robinson podcast.
When the subject of Emma came up, Eric rejected the notion that their relationship could easily be characterized from the outside.
"It’s only complicated through outside eyes," he said previously. "I’m so proud of my kid."
He went on to praise Emma’s acting career, saying she "became a great actor" and calling her "fabulous."
That was a notable change in tone from comments Eric made about their relationship in 2024.
While promoting his memoir Runaway Train: Or, The Story of My Life So Far, Eric described the "loss of relationship" with Emma as one of the toughest periods of his life. He said there was "sadness" over what he described as a likely lifelong misunderstanding between the two of them.
Eric has also been candid about his own shortcomings as a father.
In his memoir, he wrote about struggling with the realities of becoming a parent after Emma was born in 1991. He and Emma’s mother, Kelly Cunningham, split when Emma was young, and Emma was primarily raised by her mother.
Still, Eric has repeatedly emphasized his pride in his daughter.
That makes his absence from her wedding notable, particularly because other members of the Roberts family were there. Julia, Emma’s aunt, attended the ceremony with Danny Moder, and the actress has spoken fondly about her relationship with her famous aunt over the years.
Emma’s wedding itself was an intimate affair at Cody’s family estate in Sun Valley.
The couple began dating in 2022 and announced their engagement in July 2024. John, 36, is also an actor, with credits including Wu-Tang: An American Saga and In the Dark.
Emma shares Rhodes with her former partner Garrett Hedlund. The actress and John have generally kept their relationship private, making their wedding a particularly personal milestone.

Dollar General's Vibrant $6 Cake Stand Is the Sunniest Way to Serve Dessert
If you aren't much of a baker, then cake stands probably don't catch your eye as much as they do for those of us who find ourselves constantly hovering around a KitchenAid stand mixer covered in flour. But here's what I'm going to tell you about cake stands — they are so much more versatile than you think. Not just for presenting yummy desserts, you can use them to style candles of varying heights, create centerpieces or even elevate some of your favorite collectibles.
And that's not all! It might seem odd, but you can even use a cake stand in your bathroom. Obviously not for food, but to organize perfumes and lotions or even corral hand soaps. Because don't these everyday items look a little more elegant when they're up and off of the countertop? Personally, I think so.

It's just as cute sitting on your countertop between celebrations as it is filled with homemade treats for guests. Whether you're serving dessert at a party or simply giving your favorite baked goods a little extra spotlight, this cake stand adds an instant pop of personality to whatever room it finds itself in.

The easiest way to style a cake stand outside the kitchen is to think of it as a decorative pedestal instead of a serving piece. Its real job is to add height and create a focal point, whether it's sitting on a bathroom vanity, coffee table or entryway console. Group similar items together, like perfumes, candles and a small vase in the bathroom or a candle, a tiny plant and a stack of coasters in the living room, to create a display that feels thought-out instead of thrown together.
To keep it from looking out of place, stick to a cohesive color palette and incorporate materials that already appear throughout the room, whether that's brass, wood, glass or woven textures. Leave a little open space so the arrangement doesn't feel crowded, and don't be afraid to swap out accessories with the seasons.

Nick Offerman's Mustache Returns, With a Twist, After Fans Were Shocked to See It Gone
Nick Offerman fans, rejoice: The 'stache is back.
At least, his iconic facial hair can be spotted on a new magazine cover that sheds light on the actor's other passion: woodworking.
Fans may already know the Parks and Recreation star, 56, has his own business, Offerman Woodshop, which he balances with taking Hollywood by storm on both the big and small screen.
And now, Family Handyman has enlisted the wearer of many hats to grace the cover of its 75th anniversary issue. Oh, and Offerman also happens to have served as the magazine's first-ever celebrity editor.
The famed home-improvement and DIY brand recently took to social media to share a behind-the-scenes clip of Offerman during his Family Handyman cover shoot. Check out the Instagram reel below.
View this post on InstagramFans have since commented on the post to show their support for the Last of Us actor. "Did I just watch this three times in a row? Yes! Yes, I did. Love this!" wrote one Instagram user, while another person commented, "I love that Nick and Ron Swanson love woodworking so much haha iconic."
As part of his cover-story interview, Offerman opened up about the parallels between acting and woodworking: "As in any craft, the fundamentals hold: Practice makes perfect, and you need to keep your chisels/British accents/somersaults honed for best results. But speaking of 'perfection,' another lesson that has grown more poignant with age is that mistakes are inevitable, and an appropriate amount of them is actually a sign of a life well lived."
The Margo's Got Money Troubles co-star also offered his endearing take on women woodworkers: "I am smart enough to know who is smarter, and they are the most skilled handcraft woodworkers I have ever known."
Earlier this year, Offerman stepped out at the 31st Annual Critics Choice Awards sporting a clean-shaven look that left fans doing double takes. Find out more here.

Many of the most promising skincare products come out of Korea, and the best of K-beauty for eye care is no different. Parade consulted five dermatologists to learn about the best Korean eye creams to combat fine lines and puffiness, and they used their expertise to recommend 12 products worth checking out.
Dr. Jessica Wu is a Harvard-trained dermatologist, Dr. Danny Guo is a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist, Dr. Sandra Oska and Dr. Jane Yoo are board-certified dermatologists, and Dr. Kavita Mariwalla is a double board-certified dermatologist and the 2026 President of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Whether you have sensitive skin, oily skin, puffy under eyes, dark circles, crow's feet and more, there's an eye cream on this list for you.
If you're somewhat new to regularly adding eye cream into your skincare routine, these experts also explain how to best apply the creams to achieve maximum skincare benefits. According to Dr. Wu, there are a few reasons for these common eye issues. "For puffiness, common causes are allergies, lack of sleep and heredity," she says, adding that for dark circles, two common causes are thin skin and hyperpigmentation.
"The thinner the under-eye skin, the more you can see the muscle tissues and blood vessels underneath. This makes the area look dark," she says. "In some patients, sun damage can lead to hyperpigmentation in this area, especially right at the top of the under-eye socket."

What’s the Difference Between Retinol, Retinal and Bakuchiol Eye Creams?Dr. Guo explains that both retinol and retinal are over-the-counter retinoid creams. They exist in "the same pathway," as retinol is converted to retinal and then into the active form retinoic acid, also known as tretinoin. "Retinal is thus stronger than retinol but also generally carries a slightly higher risk of irritation," he tells Parade.
He adds that the plant-based "bakuchiol is shown through smaller studies to have similar benefits of retinoids but does not cause the potential for irritation," he says. "It can safely be combined with retinoids but is not as effective."
How To Apply Eye Cream Correctly for the Best ResultsDr. Wu recommends applying eye creams with your ring finger for a lighter pressure "while gently sweeping under the eye from inner to outer corner."
Avoid these 2 common eye cream mistakes- Using too much pressure: "A lot of the time, there may be too much pressure being applied to the under-eye, causing the skin to stretch over time or potentially breaking blood vessels," says Dr. Wu. "Be sure to not press or sweep too hard, as the skin underneath the eye is very delicate and thin.
- Using too much product: "Using too much eye cream can lead to hard white milia cysts," says Dr. Wu. Dr. Guo recommends using a product amount about the size of about a grain of rice to avoid overdoing it.
"Certain ingredients, such as caffeine, may help depuff and brighten tired eyes," says Dr. Wu, explaining that you can also keep your eye creams refrigerated for the best results.
"The cold temperature also helps shrink puffiness," she says.
Dr. Guo adds that barrier creams, which are "richer moisturizers formulated to focus on barrier repair" can also help with "irritation and chronic dark spots."

11. Best Korean Eye Cream for Dry Under-eyes: LANEIGE Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Eye Cream, $43 Shop It on Amazon"The delicate skin around the eyes is especially prone to moisture loss, so I recommend looking for ingredients that replenish hydration while supporting the skin barrier," says Dr. Oska.
She likes this product because it contains blue hyaluronic acid, squalane and peptides for lightweight hydration. "It helps soften the appearance of dehydration lines
and leaves the under-eye area looking smoother and more refreshed," she adds.
"For patients concerned about crow's feet, I like formulas that incorporate peptides and collagen-supporting ingredients," Dr. Sandra Oska says, recommending this peptide-filled product.
She says it helps "improve elasticity and soften the appearance of expression lines while providing lasting hydration."

2004 Novel by an Iconic Horror Author Was Just Crowned the 'Best Book of the 21st Century'
While the classics tend to be the most revered titles on any bookshelf, there's no denying that truly remarkable works have also been published throughout the 21st century. For instance, the publication Colliderrecently highlighted some of the most acclaimed fiction and non-fiction books released within the last quarter of a century.
The ranking, titled "the 25 best books of the 21st century," featured Kazuo Ishiguro's 2005 hit novel, Never Let Me Go, Bruce Springsteen's 2016 memoir, Born to Run, Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn: The Final Empire from 2006, and 2015's A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. According to Collider, the top five books released after 2000 are 2008's The Hunger Gamesby Suzanne Collins, Antony Beevor's The Second World War released in 2012, 2011's A Dance with Dragons byGeorge R.R. Martin, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon from 2003, with Stephen King's seventh and final Dark Tower installment, The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower, released in 2004, taking home the top spot.
The publication argued that The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower deserved the title of the "best book of the 21st century" because King masterfully wrote a satisfying conclusion to such a beloved fantasy series. The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower holds a rating of 4.29 out of 5 from 194,238 readers on Goodreads.
Stephen King Shared What Inspired His 'Dark Tower' Books in a June 2026 InterviewIn a June 2026 interview on the horror and true crime podcast, The Last Podcast on the Left, alongside his son and fellow author, Joe Hill, King briefly spoke about his Dark Tower series. King shared that he took inspiration from the classic spaghetti Westerns of the '60s when writing the books' protagonist, gunslinger Roland Deschain.
"I was a big fan of western movies, period. And I tried to get in a lot of the things that those books and movies were based on. You know, the idea that the guy has to be alone and he has to be a hero. Although in the early books, Roland isn't very much of a hero. He's actually kind of a bad guy," said King during the podcast interview.
Hill also shared he's a big fan of the Dark Tower series.
"They're kind of like the unified theory of the Stephen King world, you know, and because it picks up so many threads from all the other books. And it's almost like a nervous system running through the whole body of Dad's work, and they're just such great reads. They're just so much fun and such a terrific cast of characters," said the Horns author in the June 2026 interview.
Savannah Guthrie Shares 'Very Specific' Plea to Mom Nancy's Kidnappers Ahead of 6-Month Anniversary of Her Vanishing
Nearly six months after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared, Savannah Guthrie is making another emotional plea to whoever may know what happened.
In a video shared to Instagram on Monday, July 27, the Today co-anchor spoke directly to the person responsible, saying she has a “very specific message” for whomever has taken her mother.
"It has been months since our mom was taken from us," Savannah began. "Our family is in agony. We are in a nightmare that will not end."
View this post on InstagramShe went on to explain that despite the passing months, the family's determination has never wavered. “Nothing about our situation has changed. We have done our part. And we will never stop looking for her. We will always ache for her and feel that hole in our hearts," she said before taking a deep breath.

Savannah then made an appeal to whoever took her mother, urging them to come forward. “The world can be a cruel and unforgiving place, and I know that you have tried to do things the right way,” she continued. “So I'm asking you, begging you to do the right thing now. Make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her."
She ended the video with one final plea: "I truly believe it is never too late to do the right thing…Please make the right choice."
How long has Nancy Guthrie been missing?Nancy, 84, disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona, home on January 31. Investigators have said they believe she was abducted after surveillance footage showed a masked individual near her home before she vanished. Authorities have continued to investigate the case alongside the FBI, but no arrests have been announced.
Just last week, journalist Briana Whitney read one of the alleged ransom notes on the Crime Junkie podcast, though questions remain about its legitimacy. While Reuters previously reported that an FBI official said the notes were not legitimate, TMZ's Harvey Levin disputed that claim, saying his FBI sources believed they were "more likely than not" real. The FBI later clarified that some of the ransom notes were extortion attempts while others remain under investigation.

Ella Langley's Next Big Hit Is Rapidly Climbing the Charts
Ella Langley may already own one of the biggest songs of 2026, but another hit appears to be right behind it.
The country superstar's latest single, "Loving Life Again," is quickly emerging as one of country radio's fastest-rising songs. After officially impacting radio on July 13, the deeply personal track is already showing impressive momentum across multiple industry charts.
Related: Ella Langley Breaks a 49-Year-Old Billboard Record With No. 1 Hit Song
According to this week's MusicRow Country Breakout Radio Chart newsletter, "Loving Life Again" posted the greatest spin increase of any song in country radio, gaining 272 spins during the latest tracking week. It was also the week's most-added song, picked up by 19 new stations, while climbing from No. 44 to No. 29 on the Country Breakout Radio Chart.
The momentum is beginning to show up on Billboard's charts as well. "Loving Life Again" currently sits at No. 32 on the Country Airplay chart and No. 16 on the Country Streaming Songs chart, with signs pointing toward even bigger gains in the weeks ahead.
Unlike the swagger and confidence of Langley's record-breaking No. 1 smash "Choosin' Texas," "Loving Life Again" comes from a much more vulnerable place.

During a concert in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Langley revealed that the song was inspired by her struggle with depression after achieving career success. She said she canceled two weeks of shows and returned home to spend time with her parents while focusing on her mental health. After opening up to fellow country star ERNEST about what she had been going through, he asked how she was feeling.
Her response became the song's title.
Together with ERNEST and songwriter Devin Dawson, Langley turned that conversation into one of the most personal songs of her career.
Related: Ella Langley’s New Hit Was Just Named One of the Best Songs of 2026—And It’s Not “Choosin’ Texas”
Throughout the track, Langley reflects on finding comfort in childhood memories and familiar places. Rather than dwelling on hardship, she sings about mentally returning home, remembering riding her quarter horse through the pine trees, hearing her grandmother call from the front porch, and rediscovering the peace she thought she'd lost. The song's warm, reflective lyrics mark a different side of the singer whose breakthrough hits have often leaned into attitude and grit.
Critics have praised that emotional honesty. Holler's Maxim Mower wrote that the song's "peaceful, comforting ambience" mirrors Langley's newfound sense of peace, adding that she "showcases her charismatic, compelling vocals throughout" while bringing "a sense of ease into her delivery."
Related: Country Star’s ‘Mind-Blowing Banger’ Just Earned One of the Year’s Biggest Honors
"Loving Life Again" has already proven it can connect with listeners. Earlier this year, before it was even released as an official radio single, the song climbed as high as No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 5 on Hot Country Songs, No. 6 on Streaming Songs, and No. 19 on Digital Song Sales.
Now that country radio has fully embraced the track, its rapid climb suggests Langley could soon have another major crossover hit on her hands. With "Choosin' Texas" continuing to rewrite Billboard history and "Loving Life Again" gathering steam across radio and streaming, one of country music's biggest breakout stars doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

19 Years Ago, Lindsay Lohan’s Psychological Thriller Faced Critical Backlash
Lindsay Lohan's controversial psychological thriller I Know Who Killed Me was released on July 27, 2007.
The film starred Lohan as a young woman called Aubrey who survives an abduction and torture by a sadistic serial killer. When she wakes up in the hospital, mutilated, she claims she has no idea who Aubrey is, and her name is actually Dakota. She claims she telepathically is still linked to Aubrey, who is alive but in mortal danger.
The film was an attempt by Lohan to leave her teenage image behind and star in something more mature. Sadly, it flopped, receiving a 9% on Rotten Tomatoes, the first-ever “F” rating on CinemaScore from audiences, and making less than $10 million at the box office.
Michael Rechtshaffen of The Hollywood Reporter said: "There's a fresh candidate in the running for worst movie of 2007 honors." It was indeed considered the worst of the year, winning seven of eight nominations at the 28th Golden Raspberry Awards.
The film was also released around the same time as other graphic franchises like Saw and Hostel. The movie faced backlash for its unnecessarily graphic scenes involving amputations, stigmata, and mutilation.
View this post on InstagramBut, the movie found its audience after its home release, making four times its box office. The film then started being released as a midnight movie and American giallo, an Italian subgenre of horror/mystery.
Looking back, many people believe critics and press were harsh on I Know Who Killed Me, due to Lohan's own struggling persona in the limelight.
"Though DOA at the box office upon its critically savaged theatrical run, this widely, wrongly maligned film has been embraced by a growing mini-cult attuned to its aesthetic of surreal artifice and grim interplay with real life. We appreciate the irony of a woozy-headed meditation on the luster and tragedy inherent to the classic celebrity-in-peril archetype – which its star could not appear on Leno to promote due to a DWI arrest earlier that week," wrote The Guardian in 2021.

1975 Rock Classic, Written as a Dirty Joke, Became a Timeless Party Anthem
When The Who released "Squeeze Box" in 1975, many listeners couldn’t help but smile.
Driven by an infectious acoustic riff and an irresistibly catchy chorus, the song became one of the band's biggest hits. Yet behind its playful melody was a joke that songwriter Pete Townshend never intended anyone to take too seriously.
Townshend has long admitted the song was written as a bit of fun.
"I had bought myself an accordion and learned to play it one afternoon," Townshend said in the liner notes for his 1983 album, Scoop. "(That is not meant to be flash, I don’t mean I learned to play it properly, just manage to work it without falling over!) The polka-esque rhythm I managed to produce from it brought forth this song. Amazingly, recorded by The Who, to my disbelief. Further incredulity was caused when it became a hit for us in the U.S.A.”"
Although the title refers to a small accordion, "Squeeze Box" is packed with double entendres. Townshend later described it as essentially a dirty joke. The tongue-in-cheek lyrics, filled with playful innuendo, quickly became part of the song's charm.
"It was Ronnie Lane who encouraged me to consider 'Squeeze Box' for the album," Townshend continued. "It was a rank outsider as a song, not even included in the songs I had first suggested to Roger [Daltry]. I had written it entirely for my own amusement, to show off my abilities on an accordion I bought at a local music shop. One evening, I played Ronnie my demo, and he loved it. He said it sounded like a crazy Country & Western polka."
Despite its humorous origins, "Squeeze Box" struck a chord with audiences.
Released as the lead single from The Who by Numbers, the song climbed to No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and reached No. 10 on the UK Singles Chart. Its upbeat acoustic sound also stood apart from many of The Who's harder-edged rock recordings, showcasing a lighter side of the legendary band.
The song became a concert favorite almost immediately.
Its simple singalong chorus made it an ideal live number, with audiences enthusiastically joining Roger Daltrey on every refrain. Over the decades, "Squeeze Box" has remained a staple of classic rock radio and one of the band's most recognizable songs, proving that not every enduring anthem has to take itself seriously.
"What's great about 'Squeeze Box' is that it's so refreshingly simple, an incredible catchy song," Daltry told Uncut. "A good jolly. I've never had a problem with that song because it doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is and I love it for that. Live audiences love it."
The success of "Squeeze Box" also arrived during an important chapter for The Who.
While The Who by Numbers was more introspective than ambitious works like Tommy and Quadrophenia, the album demonstrated the band's ability to balance emotional songwriting with moments of pure fun.
"The songs are about being older, feeling lost, losing your way," Townshend said in an interview. "Changing fashions, being sentimental, looking at the sunrise. What's that got to do with being a young man? You don't start looking at the sunrise until you're dying."
"Squeeze Box" provided a playful, good-natured reprieve from the rest of the otherwise heavy material and it became one of the record's defining moments.
Nearly 50 years after its release, "Squeeze Box" continues to get crowds singing along. What Pete Townshend originally conceived as a dirty joke ultimately became one of The Who's most beloved songs, proving that sometimes the simplest ideas, and the funniest ones, can leave the biggest impression.

Bret Michaels Opens Up About Recent Health Struggles Following Kidney Stone Surgery
Bret Michaels might be hard at work enjoying a series of concerts across the country, but the 63-year-old Poison frontman is currently recuperating from a kidney stone surgery following "intense" pain the singer suffered during several performances.
According to Billboard, Michaels recently took to Facebook to share the news that he was mending from a surgery to remove some nettlesome kidney stones.
Sharing the update on Facebook, the singer went into more detail about the recent operation, as well as the painful symptoms he felt leading up to the surgery.
"On this #WisdomWednesday, the first thing I learned is complete gratitude for the frontline workers, doctors and nurses who this week have recently taken care of me, as the kidney stone (after almost 7 days of waiting it out) would not pass," Michaels wrote. "The pain became intense but, as usual, I played through Charleston WV, Grantville PA and a special private show at Fairchild AFB in Spokane for veterans, active duty and their families."
"But immediately, the next day following that show, I was admitted to the hospital, as the pain became too much when the stone would not pass," the singer continued. "The operation has been done and is complete & I’m out of post-op recovery, and I’m doing everything within my power to feel better and continue playing great shows for great fans when I’ve got a complete clean bill of health.
"Just want to say on this #WisdomWednesday that I am wise enough to know how important family, friends, fans, doctors and nurses play such a vital role in our everyday health," Michaels continued. "Also just know, they eventually forced me out of my clothes & into a hospital gown lol as I had gone straight from the show to the hospital."
Right now, Michaels is currently scheduled to perform on July 31 at the Belle-Clair Fairgrounds Park in Belleville, Illinois. It's not yet known whether the surgery will delay his return to the stage or cause him to reschedule.
'Reacher' Star Alan Ritchson Speaks Out on Viral Neighbor Fight: 'Scariest Thing I've Ever Been Through'
Alan Ritchson was a hot topic of conversation in March when videos surfaced of the Reacher star in a heated confrontation with a neighbor. Months later, he finally addresses what happened from his point of view.
In March, a video surfaced online of the Reacher star and his children being confronted by an angry neighbor, Ronnie Taylor, in Brentwood, Tennessee. Taylor's recollection of events detailed having started with the noise, revving of engines, and fast riding that was occurring on the street.
The neighbor claims that he went outside to ask Ritchson to slow down and was met with a physical altercation with the actor. Taylor had taken multiple punches with documented injuries. The actor's recollection of events was different, and, after reviewing the footage from a body cam the actor was wearing, local police ruled Ritchson acted in self-defense.
In a recent episode of Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast, Ritchson finally addresses what really happened, and what he calls the "scariest thing [he ’s] ever been through." He claims that they were "putting along" and "hardly moving" when Taylor came out to confront him.
Ritchson details that the neighbor had “all of a sudden stepped in front of” him and his children on the street, and that's when "it got weird." He recalls the neighbor being "pretty aggressive" and was almost the same size as the actor. Above all, Ritchson revealed he smelled alcohol on Taylor's breath. The Reacher star tried multiple times to leave and was soon “two-hand shoved off the bike.”
“At that point, there’s no conversation. I’ve got to protect me and got to protect my kids and get us off the street safely, and that means getting the guy out of the picture. So I hit the guy," explained the Blue Mountain State star.
He adds that the experience has "robbed" him of bike rides, as his children can't be convinced to ride them after what occurred. The actor does admit to having some anger and resentment towards Taylor over how the situation escalated. Especially as the actor was the "sole caretaker" of his kids and "calming them down, assuring them" he wasn't going to get arrested, as his wife was on a retreat.
Ritchson didn't face criminal charges after authorities verified what occurred through multiple recorded videos of the incident. When it occurred, the actor was terrified that his "career had tanked," but was assured thanks to his decision to purchase the bodycam.
“If anything makes you go, ‘Maybe God is real,’ it’s [that],” he said. “If I hadn’t had that, dude, I’d probably still be in jail. The cops came to arrest me that day and only had [a tape from a neighbor] to go off of. … [My video] changed the course of my life forever.”
The actor also addressed Taylor's own recollection of what occurred and of having gone public with the supposed injuries he sustained. Ritchson admits he had never met the man before and "lied to TMZ" about having asked them to slow down.

Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Leah Paul released a statement, saying that the police responded to a report of a shooting at 7:32 p.m. ET on Sunday.
"Deputies located one adult female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries," the statement read, adding that the couple's son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy was arrested.
He is being charged with Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and Discharge of a Firearm Inside of a Dwelling. He is being held without bond.

He’s got a great support group here, as does his family, as needed. We’ll let time take care of it from there.”

Country-Pop Princess Miley Cyrus Officially Makes Big Career Move
Miley Cyrus is taking her talents elsewhere, making a big career move by signing with a new label and leaving Sony Music’s Columbia Records, where she has been for the past five years.
According to The Hollywood Reporter's new intel shared by a close source, the country-pop princess has officially signed with Atlantic Records, where she plans to release music sooner rather than later, if an update from May 2025 is anything to go by, that is. "My next album is about to be extremely experimental, so have fun with that," she teased at the time, during an album listening event for Something Beautiful, per THR.
The new deal follows the release of Endless Summer Vacation (2023)—which produced No. 1 smash hit "Flowers" when the track debuted in the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 on Jan. 28, and earned the star her very first Grammy—and her most recent project, Something Beautiful (2025), which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Vinyl Albums chart and peaked at No. 4 on the main Billboard 200.
Before she transitioned to Columbia, Cyrus was with RCA for a nearly decade-long stint, where she released her albums Bangerz, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, Younger Now, and Plastic Hearts.
It's shaping up to be a big career year for the former Disney sensation. She recently celebrated a huge milestone for Hannah Montana with its 20th anniversary special, as well as receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in May.
“To my family, my future family, parents, my mom, my siblings, my friends, my collaborators, thank you for loving and supporting not only the choices that I make, but my fears, and then facing them with me,” Cyrus said during the ceremony. “Today is something that I’ll never forget and I’m always going to cherish. I love you all so much, thank you,” she said at the ceremony.

Peacock's 'Married at First Sight': Nick Confronts Courteney in Awkward Sneak Peek: 'Are You Ready for a Romantic Relationship?' (Exclusive)
Married At First Sight Season 20 is in full swing as the Seattle couples returned home after their honeymoon and now attempt to figure out what their new normal is. One of the couples struggling the most is product manager and reality TV star Nick Unlenhuth and his program manager and former bodybuilder wife Courteney Landis.
Ahead of the Thursday, July 30 episode of Married at First Sight, Peacock shared a sneak peek of an uncomfortable conversation the two shared while getting ready for the first couples' dinner of the season.
At the beginning of the clip, Nick and Courteney are in their apartment getting ready for the day, when he asks his wife, “Do you think that you are ready for a romantic relationship?” He follows up by adding, “Is that what you want?”

Courteney is quick to say that she wouldn’t be here taking part in the experiment if she wasn’t interested.
Later in the confessional, she explains that she is coming into this marriage with baggage. Still, she is trying to break down those walls and toss herself into the experiment headfirst. She shares that she is here “because I wanted to be loved and find my person for life.”
She hopes her husband understands that she thinks he’s “great,” that she wants to be more “physical” with him, and that, for the marriage to work, she needs to get to know him better. “Once that side of Nick comes out, the spark will be there, and I can give him fully what he needs from a physical standpoint and be a great relationship,” she shared.
Previously, the two had a rocky start to their relationship. Finding out that Nick has been a part of several reality TV series, including those searching for love such as Netflix’s Perfect Match, Courteney built up her walls right away; she also has opened up about her previous relationship shortcomings.
To learn more about Nick and Courteney’s relationship, and to watch the explosive first couples dinner of the season, tune into the July 30 episode!
Fans can catch up on Married at First Sight Season 20 as Episode 1 through 6 are currently streaming with new episodes continuing exclusively on Peacock on Thursdays.
Prince's 'Purple Rain' Sets Broadway Premiere, 42 Years After the Iconic Film Debuted
Purple Rain is coming to Broadway. The iconic 1984 feature film with music by Prince included now-legendary tracks such as ‘Purple Rain’ (obviously), ‘When Doves Cry’, ‘I Would Die 4 U,’ and ‘Take Me with You.’
While the musical’s world premiere was in 2025, at the State Theater in Minneapolis, it’s finally making its way to Broadway next year.
The Big Apple debut will have a somewhat new creative team. The Minneapolis performances featured a book by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and direction by Lileana Cruz. The Broadway show is directed by Saheem Ali with a book by Peter Duchan. Original choreographer Ebony Williams will reportedly stay with the show.

Previews of the show are set to start at the Majestic Theatre on March 12, 2027, with opening night on April 12. The announcement coincides with the movie’s 42nd anniversary.
Show producer Orin Wolf told Variety, “Prince is, without a doubt, one of the rarest, most brilliant musicians we’ve ever had.” Wolf added, “What he accomplished with Purple Rain in 1984—the song, the album and the film—is a testament to the art of making music and showcases it at the highest level. It will be every bit as exciting for audiences today as it was when we first heard these songs on our boom boxes.”
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the show’s director Saheem Ali shared, “I am honored to join the Purple Rain family and help carry this story forward. Our aim is not only to honor the legacy that Prince built, but to make his timeless music feel urgent and alive, passing it on to the next generation of fans who will make it their own.”
What can Prince fans expect from ‘Purple Rain’?The official Prince’s Purple Rain Broadway website sums up the story as: “Minneapolis, 1984. A new era of music television is creating overnight stars. A magnetic young performer known as ‘The Kid’ seems like the perfect frontman to lead his bandmates to stardom. But when his past threatens everything he’s built, he’ll have to sing his way out of the darkness and into the spotlight where he belongs.”
In other words, you can expect to see a storyline that’s close to the film’s version and hear your favorite Prince tracks.
How can fans get tickets for Prince’s 'Purple Rain' on Broadway?Tickets go on sale in September. Sign up for early access and updates on the Purple Rain Broadway website. Fans can purchase tickets online (starting in September 2026) or in person at the Majestic Theatre Box Office.
Johnny Depp Makes His Comeback as Scrooge: 'It's Good to Be Back'
For the first time in years, Johnny Deppturns toward the camera in a major studio trailer and delivers the line fans have waited to hear. "It's good to be back," his Ebenezer Scrooge beams early in the first look at the film, and for longtime fans who were unsure of Depp's future, it's a welcome, if cranky, outing.
The footage arrived at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23, when Depp crashed Collider's Directors on Directing panel in Hall H in full Scrooge makeup to debut the clip. He hobbled onstage with a lit candle, muttered that he was "speaking into the candle," then handed it to director John Francis Daley. Still in character, he asked the crowd, "Have you no lives? No responsibilities?" Hours earlier he had appeared in the Gaslamp Quarter in the same costume, drawing onlookers in the summer heat.
Directed by Ti West, the horror filmmaker behind Pearl and MaXXXine, Ebenezer reframes Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol as something seemingly both dark and comedic. The trailer feels like a (somewhat lighthearted) gothic Victorian horror, with Depp's miser sinking into a bed and pelting a couple with snowballs. The ghosts of Christmas past, present and future torment him across the season. He is nearly unrecognizable beneath gray sideburns and a heavy coat, a sharp turn from the flamboyant heroes that defined his biggest films.
The role is Depp's first major Hollywood project since his 2022 defamation trial against former wife Amber Heard. In the years after, he kept a lower profile, starring in the French-language drama Jeanne du Barry, which opened the Cannes Film Festival, and stepping behind the camera to direct Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness. Before the trial, he had headlined blockbusters including the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Ebenezer returns him to the center of a wide studio release built for the holiday season.

The cast pulls from franchises fans know by heart. Rupert Grint and Daisy Ridley play married couple Bob and Emily Cratchit, bringing Harry Potter and Star Wars history into Dickens' London, while Ian McKellen appears as Jacob Marley and Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past. Sam Claflin rounds out the principal cast. The opening credits run through the alter egos that led Depp here, including Jack Sparrow and Edward Scissorhands before his Scrooge turns to the lens with that greeting.
Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol reaches theaters on November 13, 2026, arriving in a crowded holiday corridor and giving audiences their clearest test yet of Depp's return to studio filmmaking. He has more lined up after it, including the thriller Day Drinker opposite Penélope Cruz and Madelyn Cline.
