And then added, “From ‘Jolene’ and ‘Coat of Many Colors’ to ‘I Will Always Love You,’ Parton has written with honesty, heart, and unmatched storytelling power, creating songs that have shaped the culture of country music and continue to resonate far beyond genre lines.”

'90s Rock Legend Announces New Album 47 Years After Beginning Career
Nearly five decades after first stepping onto the stage, Tom Morello is preparing to add another chapter to his remarkable career.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame guitarist has announced his new solo album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want, which is set for release on Sept. 25. Morello shared the news directly with fans while also unveiling the record's first single, "Date Night."
"BREAKING: My new album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want, comes out on September 25th!" Morello wrote on Instagram. "Pre-save the album and pre-order vinyl and merch now through the link in bio. Until then, 'Date Night' is out now!"
The announcement marks the latest milestone in a career that began nearly 50 years ago.
Morello first started performing in the late 1970s, eventually developing one of rock's most recognizable playing styles through his innovative use of effects, unconventional techniques, and socially conscious songwriting. After emerging with Rage Against the Machine in the early 1990s, he helped redefine what a rock guitarist could sound like, creating instantly recognizable riffs on songs such as "Killing in the Name," "Bulls on Parade," and "Guerrilla Radio."
His career has stretched far beyond a single band.
In addition to Rage Against the Machine, Morello has been a member of Audioslave, Prophets of Rage, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and numerous collaborative projects. As a solo artist, both under his own name and his alter ego, The Nightwatchman, he has continued to explore everything from acoustic folk to politically charged hard rock while collaborating with artists across multiple genres.
"One of the things that I've been a great proponent of is that I'm hopeful the electric guitar’s best days are ahead and not behind," Morello told Man of Many. "There's nothing wrong with traditional rock songs, metal songs, whatever. Nothing wrong with that. But the electric guitar is a relatively new instrument on the planet, and I think that there’s a lot of territory that is still underexplored or even unexplored. I've always tried in my own playing to find ways to exist sonically as a guitar player that haven't been seen or heard before."
The new album follows a busy stretch for the guitarist.
In recent years, Morello has remained an active touring musician, released new solo music, contributed to recordings by fellow artists, and continued his work as an outspoken advocate for social and political causes. Everyone Gets Everything They Want appears poised to continue that creative momentum, with "Date Night" offering fans their first taste of the upcoming record.
Forty-seven years after beginning his musical journey, Tom Morello continues to push forward rather than look back. With a new album on the horizon and fresh music already in listeners' hands, the beloved rock legend is proving once again that his creativity remains as fearless and inventive as ever.

Bachelor Nation's Joe Amabile Reveals Ambitious Goal After Brain Surgery
Bachelor Nation's Joe Amabile has his sights set on the New York City Marathon after his upcoming surgery to remove a brain tumor.
In an Instagram Story shared on Tuesday, July 28, Amabile, 40, posted a screenshot confirming his registration for the 2026 New York City Marathon, which will take place on Nov. 1. The reality star previously completed the race in both 2024 and 2025.
“We’ll see,” he wrote, adding a crossed-fingers emoji.
On July 13, Amabile revealed that doctors had discovered what appears to be an early-stage brain tumor after he underwent a Prenuvo scan, a proactive full-body MRI.
“So a little medical update. I didn’t share my Prenuvo results because they ended up finding a lesion in my brain,” Amabile said in a video shared to his Instagram. “So then I had to go get a brain MRI, and there was a blueberry-sized lesion in my brain that looks to be a glioma, which is a tumor.”

He went on to explain that he would undergo a craniotomy to remove the lesion and determine whether it is cancerous.
“So I now need to get brain surgery to get it removed and get it tested, and then we’re gonna go from there,” Amabile continued. “So it’s been a wild couple weeks. Definitely wasn’t expecting this.”
“I think it’s one of those things where you’re like, ‘Oh, something like this never happened to me,’ and here I am,” he added. “They say it’s really early stages. I hope they are able to get it all, and I’m fine. But I will keep you updated.”
Amabile is married to fellow Bachelor alum Serena Pitt, whom he met while filming Season 7 of Bachelor in Paradise in 2021. The couple tied the knot in an intimate courthouse ceremony in New York City in October 2022 before celebrating with a larger wedding in Charleston, South Carolina, the following year.
Martha Stewart’s Prairie-Chic Area Rug Holds Up to Pets, Kids, and 'Heavy Foot Traffic'

If there's anyone who understands how a beautiful rug can transform a room, it's Martha Stewart. Her collection of indoor rugs features patterns ranging from delicate florals to bold geometric prints that can anchor a space. Speaking to one of the latest home decor trends, the Martha Stewart Prairie Oregon Power-Loomed Area Rug can update any room with rustic, prairiecore energy. Embracing a romanticized vision of early Americana and frontier life, prairecore is like a slightly more rugged take on cottagecore and farmhouse aesthetics. It leans more toward antique-inspired patterns with dusty, muted hues that make a piece look like it's been passed down through generations — and this rug captures the vibe perfectly.
All nine sizes of the Martha Stewart Prairie Oregon Power-Loomed Area Rug are on sale right now at Target with prices starting at $24 for the 2-foot-by-2-foot-9-inch runner. The deepest discount available is on the 4-foot-by-6-foot area rug, which is currently $76 at 40% off. With so many options to choose from, you can easily find one to fit your space, no matter which area you're looking to inject with a bit of prairie-inspired charm.
Martha Stewart Prairie Oregon Power-Loomed Area Rug, From $24 (was $38) at Target Shop at TargetThis rug features a purposefully distressed, faded finish that mimics the look of a well-worn family heirloom with navy and ivory colors that aren't overly vibrant. The spotty medallion pattern is exactly the kind of classic design you'd expect to see thrown down on the floor of a house out on the prairie.
Power-loomed construction means this durable rug should be able to handle whatever life throws its way. Though it's not machine-washable, shoppers mentioned that "stains are easily lifted" when spot-treated. "It is holding up well even with the heavy foot traffic of our 2-year-old and 90-pound dog," a reviewer raved.
Target shoppers said this rug looked "gorgeous" and "beautiful" placed in living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms. Because the low-pile construction shouldn't snag on the bottom of doors, you could easily use the smaller versions or runners in entryways.

Karlie Kloss Breaks Silence on Former BFF Taylor Swift’s Wedding to Travis Kelce
Karlie Kloss has gushed about her former BFFTaylor Swift's wedding to Travis Kelce. It looks like bad blood is over between the model and the superstar singer (if it was ever really there!)
“Listen, I try to protect the privacy of my friends’ personal lives,” the model told the Today Show about the singer's "special" nuptials, but did have one comment on the events at New York City's Madison Square Garden.
“What I will say is that they’re an amazing couple and I’m so happy for them,” the Victoria's Secret model said, as reported by Page Six.
The 33-year-old model was photographed heading to the high-profile NYC ceremony earlier this month. She wore a strapless Tove Gove, accessorized with metallic sandals and a Roger Vivier clutch purse.
Swift and Kloss' relationship has had its ups and downs over the years. Fans were surprised that the model had attended Swift's wedding, as the "Shake It Off" singer had not attended her two weddings ceremonies.
View this post on InstagramTaylor Swift and Karlie Kloss met backstage at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in 2013 after the singer declared to Vogue in 2012, “I love Karlie Kloss. I want to bake cookies with her!”
By March 2014, the two were besties and going on road trips together, attending Oscars parties and hanging out in New York. In Febuary 2015, the pair appeared in Vogue together. "People had been telling us for years we needed to meet. I remember makeup artists and hair people going, 'Doesn’t she remind you of Karlie? God, she and Karlie would be best friends. They’re the same,’” the "I Knew You Were Trouble" singer said.
View this post on InstagramThe pair's relationship lasted into 2016, with Kloss appearing in the video for "Bad Blood" and joining her on the red carpet at the 2015 VMAs. The pair were seen less in public after that, although maintained they were still friends.
“Taylor is incredible, and I feel really lucky to call her a friend, and she’s one of the hardest-working women.” Kloss said in a March 2019 WWHL appearance. This was one of the last public comments the pair said about each other.
When Swift didn't attend either wedding ceremony when Kloss tied the knot with Jared Kushner, the internet was set alight with rumors that the pair had fallen out. Present at the ceremony were two perry Swift had famously beefed with: Katy Perry and Scooter Braun.
The last time Karlie was seen near Taylor was in August 2023, when the model attended the Eras Tour, only was seated in general tickets rather than the VIP tent.
Zendaya Reveals the Real-Life Spider-Man Trait Tom Holland Has
Zendaya is revealing how her husband and Spider-Man: Brand New Day co-star Tom Holland is like his on-screen counterpart, Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man.
During a joint July 2026 interview with InStyle Germany, Zendaya, who plays Michelle Jones "MJ" Watson, and Holland were asked to share what they have in common with their respective Spider-Man characters. Zendaya replied that Holland and Spider-Man both have "optimism."
"I think you are a very positive person," said Zendaya to Holland. "You do always bring that positive energy wherever you go. And you're always like, 'We can do this.' Like, no matter how you're feeling, 'we're going to get through it. We're going to get it done. It's going to be great.'"
Zendaya went on to say that Holland will often say, "Tomorrow's a brand new day" when his day isn't going the way he would like.
Holland made similar comments about Zendaya. He said that unlike MJ, she isn't "a pessimist in any way, shape, or form." When Zendaya replied that she wasn't sure if that was the case, Holland clarified that "there are times when you can focus on the negative, but most of the time you're a really positive, optimistic person."
Tom Holland Opened Up About Co-Starring With ZendayaDuring a July 2026 interview with E! News, Holland opened up about co-starring with Zendaya in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as well as The Odyssey(2026), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). According to Holland, Zendaya "raises the game," no matter what set she's on.
"I've seen a lot of people say that about her. She's the type of actress where every scene is better when she's in it. She raises the stakes for everyone. She's truthful in every decision she makes as an actress. And anytime that I get to share the screen with her, I'm very lucky," said Holland during the E! News interview.
While speaking to the publication, Holland also shared what he most appreciates about starring in the MCU Spider-Man films.
"I mean, beyond the experiences, the connections with people, my relationships, the opportunity as it's presented in my career, the ability to collaborate with some of the best artists around the world and to tell stories that really mean something on the biggest stage possible is such a gift," said Holland.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day premieres on July 31.

10 Classic Betty Crocker Recipes Every Millennial Grew Up Eating
If you’re a millennial, you’re no stranger to the Betty Crocker name. Introduced as a fictional character in the 1920s, Betty Crocker was created to provide a friendly, trustworthy voice for answering consumers' baking questions. Over the decades, however, she became one of the most recognizable names in American kitchens, long before online recipes and social media food trends started changing the way we cook.
By the '80s and '90s, Betty Crocker had become synonymous with home cooking, producing a wide range of cookbooks, boxed mixes and other kitchen essentials. With many parents and grandparents turning to the brand for dependable meal ideas and baking inspiration, it's no wonder some of Betty Crocker’s most popular recipes became staples in millennial households.
Today, Betty Crocker is more accessible than ever before, with countless recipes available online and decades of trusted products still finding their way into kitchens. In celebration of the brand's lasting influence, we’re taking a trip down memory lane with 10 of the best Betty Crocker recipes many millennials remember growing up eating. Hope you brought your appetite and a notepad, because this list just might inspire you to dust off your apron and get back into the kitchen.
Classic Betty Crocker RecipesFrom made-from-scratch staples to boxed dessert favorites, these recipes highlight the comfort meals that defined many of our childhoods. Follow along and let us know which of your favorites we might have missed.
Easy Beef TacosFirst introduced in Betty Crocker’s 1999 Kids’ Cook! Cookbook, Easy Beef Tacos are a fitting starting point for our millennial-coded list. Designed as a simple solution for busy weeknights, the recipe combines thick and chunky salsa with cooked ground beef, then loads it all into crunchy taco shells topped with diced tomatoes, bell peppers, chiles, onions and shredded cheese.
Not unlike the crunchy tacos you’d find at Taco Bell, this easy recipe comes together quickly and likely holds a special place in many millennials’ hearts across the country.
Traditional MeatloafTruly one of the most quintessential American meals, meatloaf is a flavorful dish that has a way of making every bite taste like home. A staple across multiple generations for good reason, this wholesome, hearty recipe requires minimal effort to create while delivering maximum flavor.
Requiring just a few steps and about an hour and a half to prepare, Betty Crocker’s Traditional Meatloaf uses everyday ingredients to streamline the process and make it even easier to recreate. Keep it simple with Italian seasoning and ketchup on top, or switch things up with sage, thyme and barbecue sauce instead.
Shepherd’s PieTaking things in an equally comforting direction, Betty Crocker’s Shepherd’s Pie is a must-try during the colder months. Likely in regular rotation for many while growing up, it combines a hearty mixture of ground beef sirloin and vegetables, all topped with creamy mashed potatoes and baked until warm and bubbly. Originating in the late 18th century in the United Kingdom and Ireland, shepherd’s pie had already become a well-established family favorite by the time millennials started enjoying it, making it a fitting addition to this list.
Chocolate Chip Cookie MixWhat can be said that hasn’t already been said about chocolate chip cookies? Whether you’re making them from scratch or reaching for this Betty Crocker mix, it’s hard to beat the classic, melt-in-your-mouth treat. For many millennials, boxed cookie mixes were a simple way to enjoy homemade-style cookies without starting from scratch, making them a familiar face in kitchens throughout childhood.
Ready in just three steps, Betty Crocker’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Baking Mix delivers the same nostalgic flavor you grew up with while making it easy to whip up a batch whenever that sweet craving strikes.
Chicken Alfredo Pasta SkilletSpiking in popularity during the ‘80s and ‘90s, it wouldn’t be a millennial list without including the rich and creamy dish known as chicken Alfredo pasta. Betty Crocker’s Chicken Alfredo Pasta Skillet comes together in just 40 minutes using only one pan, which tells you all you need to know about why this dish was such a popular choice for big families and busy weeknights.
Crafted with a classic Alfredo sauce tossed with cooked chicken, peas and ziti pasta, it’s impressively easy to make in a pinch, whether you’re cooking for yourself or serving the entire family.

Perfect for serving big families or meal prepping for the week, it remains a reliable choice that kids of all ages love, and one that doesn’t lose its charm no matter how old you get.
Fudge Brownie MixWhen it comes to decadent desserts that come together with minimal effort, does it get any better than a good fudge brownie? Easy to make in large batches and store for future meals, it’s a no-brainer addition to any best-of list.
Classic Chicken Pot PieKeeping the chicken theme going strong and adding an extra dose of comfort, chicken pot pie has a long history of being a go-to hearty meal. Available over the years in both fresh-baked and frozen forms, this classic dinner staple dates back to medieval times before making its way to North America in the 17th and 18th centuries.
By the ‘80s and ‘90s, chicken pot pie had become a reliable comfort meal thanks in part to easy freezer renditions and simple dinner upgrades that made it a familiar sight at many millennial dinner tables. Betty Crocker's Classic Chicken Pot Pie serves as a warm, home-cooked meal that brings everyone together after a long day, one that some millennials now recreate for their own families today.
Super Moist Rainbow Chip Cake MixRounding things out with a final decadent treat, it doesn’t get any more nostalgic than a good Rainbow Chip Cake. Often associated with birthday celebrations, this tasty mix has been on grocery shelves for generations, making it a reliable choice for parents looking for an easy approach to baking.
Requiring only oil, water and eggs to bring it to life, this boxed mix was a familiar sight at many millennial birthday parties, further cementing it as a beloved Betty Crocker favorite. Easy to bring together as a cake or repurposed into cupcakes, it delivers a colorful appearance, sweet flavor and a celebration-worthy presentation that’s just as fun to look at as it is to eat.
Final TakeawaysWhile cooking trends change with every passing year and tastes evolve from person to person, Betty Crocker’s influence has arguably remained steady for generations. From weeknight dinners to birthday celebrations, these recipes represent just a small piece of the brand’s lasting impact on American home cooking, most of which became household favorites long before millennials were even born. The fact that these recipes are still popular to this day says all that needs to be said about the timeless appeal of the brand and the memories it helped create.

1979 Iconic Rock Hit Gets a New Version, Released Nearly 50 Years Later
Roger Waters, Pink Floyd co-founder, bassist, singer-songwriter, and composer, is back in the headlines with “Comfortably Numb Re-Imagined,” a new interpretation of the band’s 1979 hit featuring Palestinian singer-songwriter Mona Miari. It’s a powerful collaboration Waters hopes fans will listen to with an open mind.
In a recent interview with Wired, Waters shared more about the song and his reason for re-releasing it in this new version.
“‘Comfortably Numb’—going back to the original song,” Waters said, “it’s about being controlled by being injected with drugs to numb you.” Translating that theme for modern-day struggles, he said that social media can have the same effect, acting as a form of emotional anesthesia.
“They numb us out with TikTok,” Waters said.
Transforming the 1979 Pink Floyd song into a politically charged protest and call for solidarity with Gaza, Waters replaces the original meditation on emotional numbness with an active pledge: “I will never become comfortably numb.”
According to Wired, Miari sings in Arabic throughout several verses in the nine-minute-plus remake. Some of her lyrics include: “When I was young I dreamed of freedom / Hope blazes fierce in everything I am / Like roots breaking through the rubble / We shape our fate / Our light will break the darkness / We are the promise of a new dawn.”
In addition to sharing news about the song, Waters addressed the backlash he’s received after voicing criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza.
“I don’t have an anti-Semitic bone in my body, I never did, and I never will have,” he said. “I couldn’t give a sh-t what your religion is, frankly. I’m not interested in it. I’m interested in human rights for my brothers and sisters, whoever they are. Color of the skin, religion, nationality, politics—I couldn’t care less.”
As for the song, Waters hopes fans hear something “prophetic.”
“There is a right and a wrong,” he said. “This is not complicated, and this song is on the right side of history.”

1976 Signature Hit Named One of the Best Soft Rock Songs That Actually Rocks
Fifty years after its release, Al Stewart’s “Year of the Cat” is back in the spotlight, with Grunge magazine naming the signature hit as one of the best soft rock songs featuring unforgettable instrumental solos.
A soft rock track that actually rocks, the song is one of the greatest showcases that “builds exciting tension while letting the musicians strut their stuff a little,” Grunge says.
Released in July 1976, “Year of the Cat” was the title track from Stewart’s seventh studio album. Featuring several iconic instrumental breaks, the track transitions through string arrangements, as well as Spanish acoustic and electric guitar solos handled by Tim Renwick, formerly with The Sutherland Brothers.
“For fans of maximalist instrumental work, [“Year of the Cat” is] a wonderland of improvised melodies that touches on almost every section of the orchestra,” Grunge writes. “It’s exhausting to think about, but it’s so exhilarating to listen to.”
Toward the end of the song, listeners are treated to not one but two sax solos, “a final ramp-up delivered with brassy woodwind fire,” the outlet adds. Overall, the song dedicates more than four minutes to a mix of lush instrumental layers.
“And since the sax sounds come courtesy of Beatlesbrass player Phil Kenzie, it feels like a horn-based herald from studio musician royalty,” Grunge says.
In May 2015, Stewart performed at the Royal Albert Hall and was asked about his signature song, Songfacts reported. Elaborating on its creation, he explained that the song came about peculiarly. He was first inspired by a riff played by keyboardist Peter Wood, which Stewart thought sounded “haunting and nice.” Approaching Wood, he asked if he could write some lyrics to it, to which Wood said, “Sure.”
But that was the easy part. Struggling with putting words to this tune, Stewart meandered through his memory of an English comedian who committed suicide, British royalty, and even Vietnamese astrology.
“I was beginning to lose my mind because I had this piece of music forever and I couldn't think of any words,” he said.
Stewart ultimately settled on a title inspired by conversations with his American record label, Janus Records, while weaving references to the classic film Casablanca, starring Humphrey Bogart and Peter Lorre, throughout the lyrics, evoking the 1942 film’s smoky, exotic atmosphere with explicit character and scene callouts.
On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre.
Contemplating a crime
Playing up the magical, timeless, and unpredictable moment when romance becomes a cat-and-mouse game where the normal rules no longer apply, the tune climbed to No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of rock’s best-known songs based on the film itself.
In the words of Grunge, “Year of the Cat” is a soft rock masterwork.

1890 Best-Selling Novel Had 500 Words Secretly Censored Before Publication — And the Author Still Ended Up in Trouble
While The Picture of Dorian Gray is now considered a classic novel, it once faced scrutiny. In fact, when it was published in 1890, it had 500 words censored, and author Oscar Wilde didn’t even know until afterward!
The Picture of Dorian Gray was originally published in Lippincott’s Monthly Magazine, but the editor was so shocked by some of the novel that he decided to censor it. He viewed it as having “homosexual allusions,” and that led to him cutting and changing around 500 words before it was published, and he didn’t ask Wilde for permission at all.
That wasn’t the end of the trouble for the Irish author, though. Just five years later, he found himself accused of “gross indecency,” which was the charge in the UK against homosexuality. The prosecutor decided to use The Picture of Dorian Gray against him, despite the novel being fiction. The guilt was in artist Basil Hallward’s love for Dorian from the censored version of the story.
Oscar Wilde, Irish dramatist, poet, and wit, born Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills in 1854. (Photo by Napoleon Sarony/Bettmann/Getty Images)Despite Wilde sharing that a novel can’t be indecent — it’s either well-written or badly written — the court found him guilty, and two years of hard labor would lead to his untimely death.
The novel was ahead of its time, and it is now viewed as a masterpiece of homoerotic literature. Eventually, Harvard University Press would publish the original manuscript, which include more explicit language between Dorian and artist Basil Hallward. Modern adaptations have honed in on that element of the novel, often making Dorian bisexual or pansexual.
The Picture of Dorian Gray has often been used in TV shows and movies that feature other monsters, legends, and creatures from other novels written and published around the same time. It follows the story of a handsome young man who receives a beautiful painting of himself. Thanks to Lord Henry, Dorian starts to become obsessed with the painting and of youthfulness, as the painting reminds him of how much older he is getting.
In the end, Dorian trades his soul for youth, and the painting ages instead of him. There’s a lesson in hedonism and living a double life, as Dorian starts to turn into a monster who ruins lives, becoming the very thing people would fear or hate.

Celebrity Chef David Chang Admits the One Cooking Skill That Scared Him—and His Genius Secret to Master It
Celebrity chef David Chang is famous for calling out culinary snobbery and tackling complex flavors around the globe. But when it comes to the traditional art of home canning, the culinary icon admits he didn't start out as an expert.
In a candid conversation with Parade, the James Beard Award-winning chef and founder of the Momofuku restaurant group revealed a surprising truth: he didn't grow up canning food. Neither his mother nor his grandmother were home canners, and it wasn't a technique he practiced in restaurant kitchens.
"Everyone assumes I must know everything about canning,'" Chang confessed. "I want to be honest about the things I don't know. And I know a lot of things, but I know way less than I think people realize, and particularly when it comes to canning."
Read on to discover how Chang overcame his hesitation around canning, plus his top advice and go-to project for beginners.

So, how did a world-renowned chef end up partnering with the 140-year-old Ball canning brand? It all started during the early months of 2020.
Chang was staying in a home in New York with fresh produce right outside the door, a pantry stocked with classic Ball jars, and a toddler son who was nearly 2 years old at the time. Like millions of people staying home that year, Chang was looking for projects to keep his family busy.
He began watching instructional videos and decided to try canning peppers and jalapeños. Months later, he popped open a jar to see how they turned out. Those pickled peppers provided a pop of flavor for his Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. That experience sparked a passion for home preserving that eventually led to his collaboration with Ball to help create beginner-friendly canning kits.
David Chang's Collaboration With BallWith his newfound passion for preserving food, Chang decided to team up with Ball to create a beginner-friendly starter kit that makes the process feel more approachable. Arriving just as canning season reaches its peak, the kit is designed for anyone who is ready to try hands-on food preservation at home.
The kit includes the core essentials needed to get started: four 16-oz. Ball mason jars, the Ball 3-Piece Utensil Set, the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving, alongside Chang’s exclusive ‘Korean Hot Pickle Mix’ recipe available only through the kit.

While Chang's starter kit can help you get started, he also recognizes that the "idea" of canning is super intimidating for many people. Concerns over exploding jars, improper seals or food safety often stop them from taking the leap into food preservation.
To help nervous beginners overcome that hesitation, Chang offers a brilliant mental reframe, comparing home canning to everyday driving.
"There are a lot of things in your life that you might be scared of, like getting into a car is pretty scary, but you trust [it]," Chang explained. "There's literally an explosion that happens every time you start a gas engine, but you trust it."
Canning works the same way because it relies strictly on science. "If you follow the steps and you follow the things that you need to, it's very, very safe," he said. "It's easier to get into than people think...If you do everything by the letter of the law, you're going to look to yourself and be like, 'Oh, this is so much easier than I thought it was going to be'."

If you are new to home preserving and want to build up your confidence, Chang recommends starting with the ultimate entry-level project: homemade cucumber pickles.
For the best results, he suggests tracking down fresh Kirby cucumbers. Whether you follow a traditional USDA recipe or experiment with custom spices to add extra heat or dill, pickling fresh cucumbers gives beginners an immediate sense of accomplishment.
Plus, keeping clear glass jars filled with colorful, home-preserved foods instantly elevates your kitchen decor. Chang, who recently planted citrus trees, is looking forward to preserving whole lemons in glass jars next.
"It adds a pop of color to your sometimes dull pantry, that's for sure," Chang said. "And it can look really cool."

Pelley Was Fired in JuneCBS Photo Archive / Getty Images
Back in June, CBS News fired Pelley after the 60 Minutes staple had a dramatic clash with management. He had previously butted heads with Bilton in a staff meeting, only exacerbating the existing conflict between CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss and the longtime staff of the iconic newsmagazine program. During the meeting, which was captured on audio, Pelley accused Weiss of “murdering” 60 Minutes.
In a letter to Pelley, which was obtained by a variety of news sources, Bilton informed Pelley of his termination.
“Your antipathy to the future of the show has come through loud and clear,” Bilton said in the letter. “And I have heard you. I therefore write on behalf of CBS News to inform you that your employment with CBS is terminated effective immediately.”

— Dylan Byers (@DylanByers) June 3, 2026In a separate note to 60 Minutes employees, Bilton made it clear that the network and Pelley had “parted ways.”
“I know how much Scott meant to many of you, and I don’t say this lightly,” Bilton wrote in the letter, NBC News shared. “I made repeated attempts to have direct conversations with him over the weekend, and this afternoon I tried to find common ground. That was not the path Scott chose.”
Who Else Has Left 60 Minutes?CBS News previously announced they were ousting former executive producer Tanya Simon, executive editor Draggan Mihailovich, and correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega, Variety reported.
Anderson Cooper, who has contributed to the show for nearly 20 years, announced he would be leaving the program in February, Parade previously shared.
“The thing is, it’s never felt like work. It’s felt like you’re stepping into people’s lives, and you’re invited into people's homes,” Cooper reflected. “You’re invited into their struggles, you’re invited into whatever it is that has brought them to be on 60 Minutes.”

Academy Award-Nominated Film, Released in 1973, Ranked the Most Perfect Horror Movie Based on a Book
Modern critics and audiences alike seem to prefer original horror screenplays, as evidenced by the acclaim and box-office success for the recent spooky filmsWeapons(2025), Sinners (2025), and Obsession (2025). That being said, some of the most successful horror movies of all time are book adaptations.
For instance, the publication Colliderrecently released a list of the "10 perfect horror movies based on books," which featured frightening films like 1990's Misery, American Psycho from 2000, and The Silence of the Lambs, released in 1991. The Academy Award-nominated film 1973's The Exorcist, known for its shocking scenes, took home the list's top spot.
In a 2013 interview with World Over, the author of the 1971 Exorcist book and the film's Oscar-winning screenplay, William Peter Blatty, theorized what makes the movie so frightening. He said he believed the story about the disturbing aftermath of young Regan MacNeil's (Linda Blair) possession is "a wonderfully carpentered and told tale filled with suspense."
In addition, the late author, who died in 2017 at the age of 89, said he is under the impression that fans are drawn to the movie as it deals with religion.
"I wrote the novel in the first place, which was apostolic, which is to reach souls by way of supporting their faith by giving them evidence that God exists, and this is done by implication," said Blatty during the 2013 interview.
He went on to say that by convincing the audience "there really is something called demonic possession," they can find comfort in the thoughts of angels.
"The next question is 'Yeah, there are demons. Well, gee, why not angels? Wait a minute, that means death is not oblivion,'" continued the author.
During a 1984 interview on Good Morning America, alongside Blair, Blatty said aspects of The Exorcist were taken from an alleged 1949 supernatural situation involving a teenage boy.
"The film and the novel were inspired by that particular case. It gave me a sense of credibility that I was able to communicate, hopefully in the novel and the film. But I had to disguise it to protect the identity of the boy, who is still living and is married and has a family," said Blatty while appearing on Good Morning America.
