Navessa Allen Just Gave Fans the Ultimate Update on the ‘Lights Out’ Adaptation

It’s always difficult to hear about a favorite book getting an adaptation, only for absolute silence. Lights Out fans may have been worried that nothing was going ahead after the original news that it was getting a TV series adaptation.

However, Navessa Allen took to Instagram to share the update all fans were hoping to hear. The screenplay has been written, and that means the show is one step closer to being in production. Of course, there are still many other steps to get through first, including casting, but it’s always great to get a major update like this from authors.

On top of that, the reaction has been positive. Allen, who was ready for a Zoom meeting, decided to jump onto Instagram and TikTok to share the update, made it clear that the screenplay is “so hot” and “so funny” that she can’t wait for everyone to see how it all plays out. It sounds like it suits the tone of the novel perfectly!

It wasn’t too long ago that Lights Out fans got the exciting news that the series was being adapted into a TV series by Netflix. Hannah Schneider, who was the mastermind behind the hilarious and poignant Why Women Kill, is adapting the novel, working as showrunner, EP, and writer.

Published in 2024, Lights Out follows trauma nurse Aly, who has some dark fantasies when it comes to romance. They start to come true when Josh, a vigilante hacker, breaks into her house and has his way with her.

Readers already have requests when it comes to the scenes that they want to see from the BookTok sensation.

Of course, most of the comments have been focused on Josh, as many people are excited to see who will take on the masked vigilante role. There is one request from many when it comes to Josh, and that’s to include the inner monologue.

One user said that it could be done in a similar way to Netflix’s other dark series, You: “I really hope they do it like a sort of similar idea to “YOU”… with the inner monologue of the character that it follows.”

There is still no word on when Lights Out could premiere on Netflix. As the scripts are being written, casting is sure to start soon, and that could mean production is possible by the end of the year. The earliest we’re likely to see the show is toward the end of 2027.

Dorit Kemsley Fires Back at PK’s $1M Luxury Spending Claims as Hermès Detail Sparks ‘RHOBH’ Debate

Dorit Kemsley is pushing back against her estranged husband PK Kemsley’s claims that her spending habits contributed to their financial troubles — and a new Hermès detail has RHOBHfans debating the couple’s messy divorce all over again.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star filed new court documents denying allegations that she spent nearly $1 million on designer clothing and luxury expenses while mortgage payments on their Los Angeles home went unpaid.

Instead, Dorit’s legal team argues PK failed to uphold an alleged agreement to cover the mortgage and other household expenses after moving out of their marital home. Her attorneys claim the financial dispute is not the result of necessity, but rather PK’s own choices.

According to documents obtained by PEOPLE and TMZ, Dorit says she only learned the mortgage was not being paid after foreclosure notices arrived. She is asking the court to deny PK’s request to sell the home, arguing the move could create unnecessary instability for their family.

PK has previously accused Dorit of excessive spending on fashion and travel, including nearly $1 million in luxury expenses. Dorit’s attorneys dispute those claims and instead point to PK’s reported spending, alleging he spent $756,000 over several months, including $360,000 on travel, $55,000 on clothing from luxury retailers like Hermès, $75,000 on dining, $160,000 in Venmo and Zelle payments, and $103,000 in cash withdrawals.

Dorit is asking the court to require PK to use his available funds to bring the mortgage current so she and their children do not have to move.

Bravo fans remain divided over the allegations, with some defending Dorit’s side of the story. “If he's not paying child support then her version is true. It makes sense he would agree to pay the bills instead,” one commenter wrote on X.

Others pushed back against Dorit’s claims, arguing PK’s version of events paints a different picture. “Bulls—t, read the email his attorney sent to the court,” one person wrote, accusing Dorit of avoiding efforts to resolve the home situation.

Amid the back-and-forth, many fans shared a similar concern: the impact the divorce battle could have on the couple’s children. “These rich-people divorce battles never get any less messy… kids stuck in the middle while Hermes bags and mortgage notices pile up is just sad,” one commenter wrote.

Dancing with the Stars pro Sasha Farber and actress Janel Parrish have broken up after three months of dating.

Exclusively confirmed by People on Tuesday — following online speculation — the couple has parted ways after making their relationship official in April of this year.

The former couple, who were loosely connected through DWTS, as Parrish was a contestant on the show in 2014, initially stayed mum on their romance before hard launching on social media, where Farber, 42, referred to himself as "the luckiest man in the world." The two then proceeded to regularly post about each other.

Parrish, 37, who was married to former football player Chris Long, filed for divorce upon the news of her relationship with Farber.

Speaking with People in May, she said that Farber "brings so much love and light and positivity to people in the world...He's just the best."

The couple also made their red carpet debut together in June.

However, just weeks later, Parrish has wiped her Instagram clean of any sign of the pair's brief relationship. Farber, for his part has a few dancing videos with the Pretty Little Liars star still on his page.

According to social media speculation, the amount of posting they were doing may have been considered a red flag.

“This was always going to be how things ended. They were sooooo over the top with the posts about being in love,” a commenter said on Reddit recently. “You’d have thought it was two teenagers posting about their first relationship, but even then, especially immature ones.”

“They were doing THE MOST on social media so fast so not too shocked…” said another, while another echoed that "you can’t believe everything you see on social media.

Farber or Parrish have not commented on the status of their relationship.

The love life of the DWTS icon has made news before as he was previously married to fellow pro, Emma Slater from 2018-2023. She is now in a relationship with another fixture on the ballroom dance competition show, Alan Bersten.

This Self-Gaslighting Sign Is Especially 'Problematic,' According to a Psychologist

It seems like only yesterday that "gaslighting" seeped into our lexicons, but it's not the only mental health term that has become part of our everyday language. "Self-gaslighting" is another term that's been more frequently used, and it's been an eye-opener for many individuals who have internalized shame, critiques and invalidation.

But let's back up and define what we mean by "gaslighting."

"Gaslighting is when a person intentionally manipulates another person to the point where that person questions their own beliefs, reality, judgment and memories," Dr. Melissa Geraghty, Psy.D., CEO of Phoenix Rising with Dr. G and a medical gaslighting sensitive trainer, tells Parade. "It is a form of emotional abuse."

Why the growing interest in a term once reserved for therapy rooms?

"[For] one, during the years of COVID, many people were able to step back and realize the toxicity of their workplace and are no longer willing to accept the mental health impact of toxic work cultures and toxic bosses," says Dr. Geraghty.

But what about self-gaslighting, specifically? This term has consistently been trending on social media in recent years. Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony-winning actress Viola Davis even shared a viral post on it back in 2023. The post, originally shared by Real Depression Project, a company that makes journals to help combat depression, walked people through what it means and how to spot it.

"Comment below: How else may someone gaslight themselves? Which points can you relate to the most?" Davis captioned her post, with hundreds of replies.

We asked experts similar questions, as well as the most common signs of self-gaslighting to look out for and how people can learn to stop this harmful behavior.

What Is Self-Gaslighting, Exactly?

As the name implies, self-gaslighting is gaslighting yourself.

"Self-gaslighting is when a person has been so impacted by their environment and other people gaslighting them that they turn this abuse on to themselves," says Dr. Geraghty.

Why Would Someone Self-Gaslight?

Abuse is a harsh word for something self-inflicted. But experts share that self-gaslighting is often the result of years of being gaslit by others.

"When this is the case, the person self-gaslighting might not even recognize they are engaging in this process," says Michele Goldman, Psy.D, a psychologist and Hope for Depression Research Foundation media advisor.

It's because gaslighting has become their normal after years of emotional abuse.

"Self-gaslighting is more common in individuals who grew up in invalidating homes," Dr. Goldman tells Parade. "If we are familiar with being invalidated, this results in dismissing our own experiences. It is important to work on decreasing self-gaslighting because the long-term effects might result in anxiety, depression, low self-worth, harmful relationships and more."

Dr. Geraghty agrees.

"You are your own best advocate," she says. "If you begin to doubt yourself and not assertively stand up for your boundaries and worth, you may sink into a cycle of feelings of unworthiness that may lead to increased depression and anxiety."

This Self-Gaslighting Sign Is Especially 'Problematic,' According to a Psychologist

One major thing to look out for? Doubting your own recollection of events and/or memories.

"Questioning your own memories is problematic because, over time, it leads to people questioning your own reality," Dr. Goldman tells Parade. "You don’t know what’s real or fake. You start second-guessing yourself and your thoughts [and] perceptions."

Common thoughts or phrases might include:

"I don’t know if I remember how that happened. Trust someone else instead, not me.”
“I remember it happening this way, but if you’re saying it didn’t, then I must be misremembering.”

Self-gaslighting can take many forms, though it's essentially beating yourself up for things that aren't your fault. Goldman shares several examples:

1. You blame yourself and take on responsibility when it is not yours to take

This may sound like:

“If I were more attentive to my partner, maybe they wouldn’t have cheated on me."
“I feel like I’m responsible even though I wasn’t here at the time.”

"These examples lead you to internalize things as your fault, and you are creating a chronic state of being blamed for things and treating yourself poorly without just cause," Goldman says.

2. You tell yourself that things really aren’t *that* bad

This form of self-gaslighting is so common—and concerning.

"Chronic invalidation is harmful," Dr. Goldman says.

Examples include:

“Yeah, what happened was bad, but it wasn’t that bad. I know people who have it way worse."
“I was in pain, but it’s not that big of a deal. Everyone has stuff going on these days.”

"Your experiences might have been bad," says Dr. Goldman. "And yes, the experiences of other people might also be bad. Their experiences do not negate your experiences."

3. You have a negative internal dialogue that runs in your head

You have the leading role in your life. And the script is consistently dark. Your most common lines may be:

“I’m so stupid compared to everyone else here. They’re all so much better than me.”
“I’m not nearly as attractive as they are.”

"Negative self-talk can be exceptionally harmful to thoughts about self and impacts the way we feel about our worth, our lovability [and] our competence," says Dr. Goldman.

4. You invalidate your emotional experiences or believe you feel “too much”

Frequently telling yourself you're overreacting is another form of self-gaslighting. For example:

“I’m too sensitive, and I shouldn’t cry as much.”
“I reacted in a way that was not appropriate for the situation.”

"This tells you that you are always wrong—that there is something about your experiences that is misaligned with how it 'should be,'" says Dr. Goldman. "The reinforcement of this over time has negative impacts."

How Can I Stop Self-Gaslighting?

Try affirmations.

"Affirmations are a previously generated positive thought that you have prepared for when you need it," says Dr. Goldman. "You should repeat the affirmation when a negative thought crosses your mind."

Dr. Geraghty says affirmations may look like:

"This is racism/ableism/sexism. I have been conditioned by society to minimize my feelings around this. However, my feelings are valid."
"I can’t control my feelings and thoughts, but I can control my behavior. What do I need to do right now for self-care?"

Dr. Goldman adds some of her favorites:

“I am good at helping other people."
"I matter."
"I am enough."
"I believe in myself."
"My emotions are mine and no one else’s.”

If affirmations aren't helping, more help is available.

"In my professional experience, when a person is gaslit, it has often occurred many times over many years, and then they turn that on to themselves and self-gaslight," says Dr. Geraghty. "This is trauma that should be processed with a psychologist or other mental health professional."

Sandra Oh Almost Walked Away From 'Grey’s Anatomy' Before Becoming Cristina Yang

Before Sandra Oh became the Emmy-winning star behind one of television’s most unforgettable characters, she almost never became Cristina Yang. The actor revealed she came close to walking away from the Grey’s Anatomy audition process — a decision that could have changed the course of one of the biggest medical dramas in television history.

During an appearance on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Dinner’s On Me podcast, Oh opened up about the unusual path that led her to Grey’s Anatomy, including originally auditioning for a different role before realizing Cristina Yang was the character she wanted to play. Her decision to stay in contention ultimately gave fans one of TV’s most iconic doctors.

Oh recalled that the audition process took an unexpected turn after a work session with the casting team.

“So we did a work session, which was great. Kinda got all the jitters out,” Oh explained. “And so also that they could know what I was doing. And then the casting director said, ‘Your manager is calling.’”

Her manager delivered surprising news: Oh needed to leave because they could not close her deal.

“My manager said, ‘Leave.’ Marsha said, ‘Leave. Leave. We can’t close your deal,’” Oh recalled. “And I was just like, ‘Oh, okay. I guess I’m supposed to leave. Bye-bye.’ And then so I left, and I did not audition for the network.”

Despite leaving before the network audition, Oh said the creative team already knew she was the right fit.

“They just cast me," she recalled.

Oh credited the earlier work session with allowing creators Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers and Peter Horton to see what she could bring to the character.

“And that’s all that mattered was that Shonda, Betsy, and Peter could see what I was and see what I could do,” she said.

The casting process also looked different from what audiences might expect, with Oh noting that the original Grey’s Anatomy cast was a mix of actors from theater and television backgrounds.

But Cristina Yang almost wasn’t the role Oh pursued. She originally auditioned for Dr. Miranda Bailey, the character played by Chandra Wilson.

“I actually was auditioning for Chandra Wilson’s part, for Bailey,” Oh shared. But after learning Cristina had not yet been cast, she immediately saw the potential in the character.

“For me, I was like, ‘That’s it. That’s the antagonist,’” Oh said. “Clearly Meredith is the protagonist. That’s the antagonist, at least in the pilot. And I’m like, ‘I wanna do that.’”

Oscar-Winning Film Inspired by a Book Gets Named the Best Crime Movie Since 2010

The crime film genre can thank its broad appeal to its riveting plots, heart-pounding moments, and charming anti-heroes that audiences feel only somewhat conflicted rooting for. On July 28, the publication Collider highlighted a few relatively new acclaimed crime films with a ranking of "the 6 best crime movies released since 2010."

According to Collider, a couple of the top post-2010 crime movies are 2013's Prisoners, The Wolf of Wall Street, also released in 2013, and Killers of the Flower Moonfrom 2023. Collider put Paul Thomas Anderson's Oscar-winning film One Battle After Another, released in 2025, at the list's top spot. The movie, which takes aspects from Thomas Pynchon's 1990 book Vineland, has a score of 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 95 on Metacritic.

During a December 2025 FYC panel, Anderson, who won the Oscar for Best Director for One Battle After Another, made a point to say his film is in no means an exact adaptation of Vineland. He explained that he had been wanting to write "a car chase movie" that featured "secret societies" since 1999. The filmmaker then said he picked up Vineland around 2002 and began thinking about how he could adapt the novel.

"I thought, well, this could be interesting, you know, but it's a very complicated book, and being very respectful of him as a writer, I had no idea how to really tackle it as an adaptation," said Anderson, who released a film adaptation of Pinchon's 2009 book Inherent Vice in 2014.

Anderson said more ideas for the film that ended up being One Battle After Another came from the 2015 non-fiction book, Days of Rage: America's Radical Underground, the FBI, and the Forgotten Age of Revolutionary Violence by Bryan Burrough.

While speaking before the audience at the FYC panel, Anderson also explained it was only appropriate to say One Battle After Another is an adaptation of Vineland, as "it felt disrespectful to not give credit to it."

"So it's 'inspired by,' it was a way to say, it's just code for like I stole a bunch of great stuff and, you know, just kind of ran with it. But the central premise in Vineland is a father who's raising his daughter in the woods of Northern California," said Anderson.

Executives Doubted the Potential Success of Wonder Woman

Last year, Carter attended the Paley Honors Spring Gala in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Wonder Woman TV series.

“Lynda Carter’s iconic portrayal remains a timeless symbol of strength, courage, and empowerment,” Maureen J. Reidy, President and CEO of The Paley Center for Media, told Variety.

However, Carter revealed in an Instagram post looking back on the evening that execs doubted the show would succeed.

Iconic '90s Band Announces Special 35th Anniversary Tour

Iconic '90s R&B band Jodeci is celebrating 35 years since they dropped their No. 1 landmark debut album, Forever My Lady, in a big way—by heading out on the road to perform it live for fans.

On Tuesday, July 28, it was announced that the vocal group is taking their talent on a 2026 tour, setting the course to hit an expansive 36 cities across the U.S. this fall. The exciting news comes after the re-release of the project on July 17, with a special expanded vinyl version, set to begin shipping out on July 31 via Motown.

"Fans on this milestone tour will experience the group’s unparalleled catalog of historic, chart-topping R&B classics performed live, including major hits from Forever My Lady that were #1 hits on the Billboard charts including 'Forever My Lady,''Come and Talk to Me,' and 'Stay,' plus radio staples 'Love U 4 Life,' 'Lately,' 'Cry for You,' 'Feenin',' 'Freek'n You,' and more," according to a press release shared directly with Parade.

The singing ensemble—made up of brothers Cedric “K-Ci” and Joel “JoJo” Hailey, along with Donald “DeVanté Swing” and Dalvin “Mr. Dalvin” DeGrate—first formed in the late 1980s in Charlotte, N. C.

Parents Who Raise Confident Kids Tend To Avoid These 8 Phrases, According to a Child Psychologist

Confidence is something that everyone struggles with from time to time. And kids can be especially prone to not believing in themselves. In fact, according to one 2025 survey in the UK, an astounding one in three young people report having little or no confidence.

Although good self-esteem can certainly be shaped by a child’s peers and teachers, parents really hit home when it comes to confidence. That’s when parenting comes into play and can help foster self-assurance.

Dr. Caroline Danda, a licensed psychologist in private practice, defines a confident kid as someone who “believes in themselves and their ability to figure things out, no matter what happens, and [isn 't] afraid to ask for help.”

She further says that high self-esteem isn’t the absence of anxiety. Rather, she says that it’s feeling nervous or unsure and moving forward anyway.

And don’t expect self-assurance to form overnight. The child psychologist shares that faith in oneself builds over time, and it’s not a constant.

“Supportive guidance and a warm relationship go a long way in building confidence and raising a good human,” she tells Parade.

She shares eight phrases to avoid if you want to bolster confidence in your kid, along with how to raise a self-assured child.

Common Traits of a ‘Confident Kid’

Dr. Danda lists these specific traits to be on the lookout for as your child develops their confidence:

Confident kids are willing and motivated to try new things. They are often curious and want to explore new ideas and new tasks, even if they’re not sure it will turn out the way they want. Being confident isn’t about having all the skills or knowledge, but knowing you can eventually get there.

Confident kids live with a growth mindset. They want to excel and learn, and they can adapt when something doesn’t go as planned or if a task gets hard. Mistakes don’t knock them off their course. They’re not just focused on outcome; they can also notice what they’re learning and simply enjoy the activity itself.

Confident kids are optimistic. They often have a realistic, not negative, view of their own ability, and they can picture themselves doing well enough. This optimism builds persistence.

Confident kids don’t take on too much of the blame. They can acknowledge mistakes and setbacks without viewing them as a personal failure. They don’t let their mistakes or problems define them. A confident kid might think, “I’m going to practice that more” versus “I’m bad at this.”

How To Raise a Confident Kid

Dr. Danda says that, particularly, an authoritative parenting style supports confidence since it combines guidance and boundaries with a strong sense of security and attachment.

“Kids need room to practice using their own judgment, within clear guidelines and expectations,” she explains. “When parents give kids autonomy over small decisions and choices, kids learn to trust themselves and learn from their mistakes. Parents provide background information, consequences and structure, with the goal of helping kids learn from what went wrong rather than assign blame or shame.”

It also can come down to your own confidence, since kids frequently model the authority figures around them. It might be difficult, but trying to alleviate your own worries can help a child be more confident in themselves.

“Parents who let go of their own anxiety tend to raise more confident kids," the psychologist tells Parade. "Anxiety often leads to curtailing a child's independence, which is essential for building confidence, and kids can sense when a parent doesn't fully trust them to handle things on their own.”

Plus, making your child feel seen and heard is important too.

“Confident kids tend to have parents who pay attention to what's going well at least as much as what isn't,” she says. “I use the metaphor: ‘You can’t just pull weeds without nurturing the grass. Otherwise, the weeds come back.’”

Here's what not to say, and what phrases to use instead, according to an expert.

1. “Perfect”

Dr. Danda says that in general, saying “Perfect” reinforces the idea that perfection is the expected baseline. Instead, she suggests trying, “Great. This will work,” “Thanks” or “Wow. You put a lot of effort into this.”

2. “Why did you do that?”

Asking your child “Why?” can bring on a sense of defensiveness and shame. As an alternative, Dr. Danda recommends getting curious. You could ask, “You know that wasn’t OK. Walk me through what happened,” or “What’s the plan for next time?”

“You can still give a natural logical consequence for a problem behavior or choice, but you can also give a child grace to learn from what they did,” she shares.

3. “You’re so shy" / "You’re so forgetful”

“Labeling a child this way can start to box them into that identity,” Dr. Danda explains. “Kids often overhear how adults talk about them, so avoid using labels when speaking with others, too. Those labels can also shape how other adults see and respond to your child, even unintentionally, which can chip away at confidence.

4. “I always have to remind you”

Dr. Danda says that it’s important to avoid using “all-or-none” language like “always,” “never” and “all the time.”

“It doesn’t leave room to improve,” she says. “Instead, notice partial progress or name the pattern you’re seeing but in a matter-of-fact way that says you both can work out a solution to improve or fix the situation.”

5. “How did you do?”

“Often this question signals a focus on an outcome and whether it was good or not, tied to the person,” Dr. Danda states. “Instead try, ‘How did it go?’ Then you can listen and provide realistic, helpful feedback, if appropriate, or simply validate their experience to give them time to process it.”

6. “Let me do it”

This goes back to allowing your nerves to ease as your child takes on a task independently. If you have the jitters, you might say this phrase, or you might simply step in and take over the task.

“When a parent takes over, it signals the child can’t handle it," Dr. Danda shares with Parade. "Instead, notice where they are and what they have done. Ask if they need help rather than automatically stepping in. Ideally, a parent’s goal is to help the child figure out how to take the next step, not do it for them.”

7. “You’re overreacting” / “You’re too sensitive”

“These phrases name the child's temperament as the problem instead of the situation, which lands especially hard for kids who already struggle with big emotions,” Dr. Danda cautions. “Instead, validate their experience and emotions: ‘This feels really hard,’ or ‘That was unexpected. Looks like you need a moment to reset.’”

8. “You need to try harder”

Dr. Danda says that this phrase might sound like effort-based encouragement, but doesn’t give any direction.

“If a kid doesn't know what ‘harder’ looks like, they feel like they're not enough,” she says. “Instead: ‘It doesn’t seem to be working as well as you want. What's getting in the way? Let's break it down.’”

There are few sandwiches more universally loved than a classic peanut butter and jelly. It was my favorite thing to pull out of my lunchbox as a kid, and now it's one of the first things my own kids ask for. And really, I'm never above a PB&J for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a quick afternoon snack. It's affordable, endlessly comforting, and somehow always hits the spot.

I've had a long-standing relationship with Uncrustables. When you work in television, they're practically a staple at the craft services table. I've probably eaten more of them backstage than I have anywhere else. There's just something about that pillowy soft bread, the smooth, slightly salty peanut butter and sweet jelly tucked inside that feels incredibly nostalgic. They're iconic for a reason.

But recently, a new frozen peanut butter and jelly sandwich has entered the freezer aisle: Jams. The celebrity-backed brand promises 10 grams of protein, no seed oils, real fruit and a more 'mom-approved' ingredient list, all wrapped up in a square sandwich instead of the classic round Uncrustable. It's quickly gaining attention as a healthier Uncrustables alternative, thanks to endorsements from athletes including Alex Morgan and NFL stars Micah Parsons and C.J. Stroud.

As a busy mom who's always looking for easy school lunch ideas, but also someone who appreciates a little nostalgia, I couldn't wait to put them head-to-head. Would I still prefer the classic frozen peanut butter and jelly sandwich I grew up loving, or would this newcomer earn a permanent spot in my freezer?

Jams vs. Uncrustables: Which Frozen PB&J Is Actually Better?

If you'd asked me before this taste test, I would've bet on Uncrustables without hesitation. They're nostalgic, dependable and iconically delicious.

But as a mom shopping for my own family today, Jams edges them out. The bread is softer once thawed, the peanut butter tastes more natural and less sweet, and I appreciate the cleaner ingredient philosophy. It tastes more like someone made me a PB&J at home and froze it, rather than something designed to sit in the freezer for months.

That doesn't mean Uncrustables suddenly became bad. Far from it. They're still incredibly satisfying and remain one of my favorite convenience foods. But if you're looking for the best pre-packaged PB&J with ingredients that feel a little closer to homemade, Jams wins this round.

The Bread Texture After Thawing

The first thing I noticed in both bites was the bread.

Both sandwiches thaw into soft white bread, but Jams has the edge. The bread stays incredibly tender and has an easier bite, making it feel just a little fresher.

Neither sandwich is quite as soft as a PB&J you'd make with fresh bakery bread, but that's the tradeoff for the convenience of keeping them frozen. Between the two, though, Jams comes closest.

The Peanut Butter to Jelly Ratio

Both sandwiches have peanut butter on each side with jelly or jam layered through the middle, creating a really balanced bite. I never found myself wishing for more filling in either one, but Jams does jam a bit more PB&J in between their bread slices than Uncrustables.

The difference is in the flavor. Jams' peanut butter tastes more natural and lets the roasted peanut flavor shine, while Uncrustables delivers that ultra-smooth, sweeter peanut butter that many of us grew up eating.

Ingredient Breakdown: Are Jams Healthier Than Uncrustables?

If you're looking strictly at the nutrition label, these sandwiches are closer than you'd expect, after judging by the packaging.

Jams is a little higher in calories and saturated fat, while also coming in slightly lower in sodium. The biggest nutritional differences are protein and sugar. Jams contains 10 grams of protein compared to the classic Uncrustables' six grams, while also cutting the sugar considerably.

Ingredient-wise, the differences become a little more noticeable. Jams markets itself as being free of seed oils, artificial colors and high-fructose corn syrup while using real fruit jam. Uncrustables uses a more traditional processed peanut butter recipe with hydrogenated oils and a sweeter jam filling.

I'm firmly in the camp that there are no "bad" foods when enjoyed in moderation. If I'm running out the door and need a frozen PB&J for my kids or myself, I'd happily eat either one.

That said, I do appreciate the ingredient choices Jams is making. The protein headline is nice, but it's not quite as dramatic as the front of the box suggests. You're really only getting a few extra grams of protein over the classic Uncrustables, not enough to replace a high-protein meal. Still, the lower sugar and simpler ingredient list are wins in my book.

Price and Availability: Is the Alternative Worth the Cost?

Availability is one of Uncrustables' largest advantages. I can find them at just about every grocery store on Instacart, along with multiple flavor options. Jams is becoming easier to find, but during my search it was primarily available at Walmart and Target.

Price is another factor. A four-pack of Jams costs about $6, while a four-pack of Uncrustables typically runs closer to $4. And if you're feeding a crowd, Uncrustables are tough to beat. I love grabbing the Costco box when I know I'm feeding a t-ball team or a group of hungry first graders at the bus stop because it brings the cost to well under a dollar per sandwich.

If convenience and price are your priorities, Uncrustables still has the advantage.

The Final Verdict: The Winner of Our PB&J Showdown

My family of four all dug in on the frozen sandwiches.

What the Adults Thought

My husband immediately noticed the ingredient difference, "Jams definitely reads healthier," he said. He also pointed out that the bread on Uncrustables had a more classic white bread feel. "The peanut butter in the Jams is less sweet. The peanut butter in the Uncrustables is smoother." To which I responded, "That's because they're using the smooth peanut butter we all grew up with and love," and they're not trying to chase a natural peanut butter vibe."

What the Kids Thought

My 3½-year-old daughter had one very important observation: "I like the square shape." My 6-year-old son immediately noticed the filling in Jams, "There is a lot of yummy jam in this one," he proclaimed. Then, after trying both, he happily declared: "I like the round one, too!" They both love peanut butter and jelly...clearly in any form.

At the end of the day, you really can't lose. If you're after nostalgia, unbeatable availability and the sandwich you've probably loved since childhood, Uncrustables still absolutely delivers. But if you're looking for a healthy, easily portable alternative with a softer bite, a more natural peanut butter flavor and an ingredient list that makes you feel just a little better about tossing it into a lunchbox, Jams earns the top spot in my freezer.

When you hear "dead bugs," you may think of the sucker underneath your fly swatter. But dead bugs are also a fixture in core workouts, even if they don't have the same ubiquity as the sit-ups you may have had to do in gym class.

"Dead bugs are a core exercise done while lying on your back with your arms pointed toward the ceiling and your knees bent at 90 degrees," explains Denise Chakoian, a Rhode Island-based certified fitness trainer and the owner of Core Cycle and Fitness LaGree. "From this position, you slowly lower one arm and the opposite leg toward the floor, then return to the starting position and repeat on the other side."

Sure, you may look like a bug lying belly-up on the ground with your legs in the air. But you won't care later. Unlike the name implies, dead bugs can make your core come alive, which is good for more than the six-pack ab aesthetic.

"Dead bugs are a great exercise because they strengthen the core without putting a lot of stress on the neck or lower back," Chakoian tells Parade. "They also help improve coordination and teach your body how to stay stable during movement. Since they're low-impact, they're a good option for beginners and people recovering from injuries."

Can you do dead bugs every day, though? For starters, Chakoian notes that people with severe back pain, very newly postpartum women and people nursing injuries will want to speak with a healthcare pro before doing dead bugs at all. As for daily dead bugs? Here's what happens to the body when you do dead bugs regularly, according to fitness professionals.

What Happens to Your Body When You Do Dead Bugs Every Day

Consistently working out is key to reaching your goals (and maintaining all your gains). Yet, you may notice changes quickly if you do dead bugs every day for a few weeks.

"Doing dead bugs daily may help people feel more aware of their core muscles and improve their posture within a few weeks," Chakoian says. "Many people notice better stability and control during everyday movements like bending, lifting or getting out of bed."

She adds that you may also start to notice you're less achy and have better posture—that comes from regularly strengthening the core, even for just a short period. Plus, it's easy to make a habit of doing dead bugs daily because they're low-impact. If you develop and maintain a daily dead bug habit, you'll notice you get stronger as your streak continues.

"Over months and years, regularly doing dead bugs can help build a stronger and more stable core. Improved core strength may support better posture and make everyday movements feel easier," she points out. "A strong core can also help protect the lower back and reduce the risk of certain injuries. Better stability and balance can become especially important as people age and want to remain independent."

That said, doing dead bugs every day can have some pitfalls, and it's certainly not a piece of cake. You'll want to make things "easier" on yourself by doing the movement correctly.

"Some people may also rush through the movement and overcompensate with their lower back, which could potentially lead to discomfort rather than benefit," warns Dr. Chris Mohr, Ph.D., RD, a fitness and nutrition advisor for Garage Gym Reviews. "Daily practice isn't necessarily harmful, but quality matters much more than quantity. Everyone is unique, so make sure to listen to your body."

Your abs may feel sore and tired, too. The good news? Dr. Mohr says that your body will start to adapt, so you'll feel less sore over time. The bad news?

"Doing the same movements, such as dead bugs, every day may eventually limit your core strength gains," he explains.

Chakoian says you may also get bored. Plus, doing dead bugs daily leaves less time for other workouts, including cardio and moves targeting other muscle groups.

"A well-rounded routine is usually more beneficial than focusing on a single movement every day," she states.

How To Start Dead Bugging

If you're a beginner, Chakoian suggests starting with 2 to 3 sets of 8 to 10 slow repetitions per side, and focusing on keeping your lower back pressed into the floor.

"Once the movement feels easy and you can maintain good form throughout, you can increase the number of reps or add another set," she tells Parade.

If you're ready for a bigger challenge, Chakoian says you can progress dead bugs by fully extending your leg instead of keeping it at 90 degrees. You can also add light weights to your hand or go slower (you will really feel the burn that way).

Just make sure you're listening to your body—it'll tell you if it's ready for more or needs less.

"The goal is to progress only when you can maintain good control of your core and lower back," Dr. Mohr explains. "Always speak with your doctor or a qualified trainer for guidance on exercise specific to your needs."

The Ideal Dead Bug Form, According to Fitness Professionals

The right dead bug form is crucial for protecting you from injury and getting the strong core you want, trainers stress.

"The ideal form involves keeping your ribs down, your lower back gently touching the floor and your core lightly braced," Chakoian says. "You should move slowly and purposefully, reaching the opposite arm and leg away from your body without letting your back arch or your torso rotate."

Know your limits. If you can only partially lower your arm or leg while maintaining good form, that's OK. "Control is more important than achieving a full range of motion," she emphasizes.

Also, keep an eye out for key red flags that your form is off.

"Anyone who notices abdominal doming or pain during the movement should stop and reassess their form," Chakoian notes. "As with any exercise, it's important to choose a version that feels comfortable and controlled."
