If you've spent any time scrolling through social media lately, you've probably seen people combining Coke and lemonade and calling it the drink of the summer. I'll admit, I was skeptical. I've tried enough viral recipes to know that not every internet-famous creation deserves a permanent spot in my kitchen. Some look better on camera than they taste in real life, but the moment I saw the Coca-Cola lemonade trend pop up over and over again, my curiosity got the best of me.

I already had everything I needed sitting in my refrigerator—a chilled bottle of Coca-Cola, a fresh lemon and plenty of ice. It felt almost too simple to be exciting, but sometimes the easiest recipes end up being the biggest surprises. After all, classic flavor combinations become classics for a reason.

The first sip completely changed my expectations. Instead of tasting like two random drinks mixed together, it was bright, fizzy, sweet, tangy and incredibly refreshing. The citrus cut through the caramel sweetness of the cola, while the bubbles made the lemonade feel lighter and more refreshing than usual. I immediately understood why this drink had gone viral.

As I dug deeper, I discovered this wasn't really a brand-new internet invention at all. It's actually inspired by a beloved European drink that's been around for decades. That little bit of history made me appreciate it even more—and after making it several times, I've officially added it to my list of favorite easy mocktails.

The Viral 'Coca-Cola Lemonade' Is Actually a Bavarian Classic

One of my favorite parts of trying viral recipes is learning where they really come from. While social media made Coca-Cola lemonade feel brand new, it's actually very similar to the famous Lemon Spezi recipe that has been enjoyed in Germany—especially Bavaria—for generations.

A traditional Spezi combines cola and lemon soda in equal parts. The result is fizzy, citrusy and surprisingly balanced. While many people use sparkling lemonade or lemon soda for the classic version, swapping in fresh lemonade or freshly squeezed lemon creates a homemade twist that's just as refreshing.

Once I learned the history, the drink suddenly made a lot more sense. It's not a gimmick or an internet stunt—it's simply a timeless combination that's finding a whole new audience.

That also explains why the flavors work so naturally together. This isn't one of those recipes where you're forcing two ingredients to cooperate. They've been happily sharing the same glass for decades, and for good reason.

Why This Works: The Sweet and Sour Balance

The biggest surprise for me was how well the flavors complemented one another.

Cola brings deep caramel notes, gentle spice and sweetness. Lemonade or lemon juice adds bright acidity that cuts through those richer flavors almost instantly. Together, they create a cola and lemonade mocktail that feels lighter than drinking soda alone.

The bubbles also play a huge role. Carbonation lifts the citrus aromas and makes every sip taste crisp and refreshing.

I found that serving everything ice-cold made a noticeable difference. Warm cola loses some of its sparkle, while chilled lemonade keeps the drink vibrant from the first sip to the last.

If using lemonade, a fresh lemon wedge squeezed into the glass right before drinking added another layer of citrus without overpowering the cola.

The Perfect Lemon-Spezi Ratio (Single Glass vs. Pitcher)

After making several glasses, I experimented with different ratios until I found my favorite.

For a single serving, I liked 4 ounces Coca-Cola, 4 ounces lemonade or freshly squeezed lemon juice, plenty of ice and a lemon wedge for serving. A simple 1:1 ratio delivered the perfect balance between sweetness and tartness.

When I made a pitcher for friends, I used 4 cups Coca-Cola, 4 cups lemonade (easier than freshly squeezed lemon juice in large quantities), lots of ice added to the pitcher just before serving and lemon wedges for garnish.

One trick I learned was to pour the cola gently over the lemonade. It helps preserve more carbonation and keeps the drink fizzy longer.

If you prefer something slightly sweeter, you can increase the cola. If you enjoy more tart citrus flavors, simply add a little extra lemonade. That's part of what makes this drink so easy—it can be customized without much effort.

6 Ways to 'Dress Up' Your Soda Mocktail

Once I realized how much I liked the basic recipe, I couldn't resist experimenting with a few fun additions.

Some of my favorites included swapping lemon juice or lemonade for lime juice or limeade, fresh mint leaves for extra freshness, thin orange slices alongside the lemon, frozen berries instead of ice cubes, a sugar-rimmed glass for parties and fresh rosemary sprigs for a slightly herbal aroma, which could also easily make it a winter holiday beverage.

For entertaining, I also loved using clear glasses filled with oversized ice cubes. Since the drink has such a rich caramel color with bright yellow citrus, it naturally looks beautiful without much effort.

It’d also be delicious with frozen lemonade ice cubes so the drink stays flavorful as the ice melts.

These little upgrades make the mocktail feel much more special while still keeping the preparation incredibly simple.

The 'Grown-Up' Spezi: Adult Variations

Although I've completely fallen in love with this as a mocktail, I can also see why adults enjoy turning it into a cocktail for gatherings.

A splash of bourbon adds warm vanilla notes that complement the cola beautifully. Dark rum creates a tropical twist, while vodka keeps the citrus front and center without changing the overall flavor too much.

Personally, I still prefer the alcohol-free version because it's refreshing enough to enjoy any time of day. It's one of those drinks I could easily reach for during hot afternoons, movie nights or backyard cookouts when I want something more exciting than plain soda but don't feel like making a complicated mocktail.

After trying this viral trend for myself, I completely understand why it's making the rounds online. It's quick, inexpensive, incredibly refreshing and backed by a long history that proves great ideas don't always have to be new.

Better late than never, as the saying goes.

A new TV show in development is taking that notion and applying it to New York's renowned theater scene.

Deadline reports that CBS has greenlighted the single-camera comedy Hilda! (In Lights!), which had been in advanced development at CBS Studios. Written by Abbey Caldwell (Laid), here's the offered description:

"One of those classic shows about a plucky small-town optimist who moves to the big city to pursue her life-long dream of starring on Broadway. There’s just one teeny, tiny, totally inconsequential difference… our hero Hilda is a 70-year-old woman from Nebraska with absolutely no experience."

With Hilda! (In Lights!), it's clear that CBS is further pulling away from multi-camera comedy, which has been a trademark of the network for ages. In what is believed to be a first, CBS has more single-camera than multi-camera sitcoms on the schedule in the upcoming 2026-27 season with Ghosts and Eternally Yours vs. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

If the pilot goes to series, it would theoretically give CBS a comedy and a drama with a female lead in her 70s, given that Hilda! (In Lights!) would be looking to join hit Matlock starring Kathy Bates.

New Content at CBS, Including LeBlanc

Hilda! (In Lights!) was among the first three projects in development at CBS that were identified earlier this year as 2027-28 contenders with a move to the next stage after a pilot script, Deadline also noted on Monday, August 3.

Two of them — Hilda! (In Lights!) and forensic drama I Know Who You Are — reportedly received an order for two additional scripts each, while CBS commissioned a development room for the third, cop drama Flint, starring and executive produced by Matt LeBlanc.

The Friends actor, 59, made headlines in other ways earlier this year after the passing of legendary director James Burrows, who helmed episodes of the beloved sitcom. In separate Instagram posts and stories, LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow shared heartfelt tributes to Burrows, emotionally expressing how much of an impact he had on them. The Brady Bunch was known for its simple storylines, often neatly wrapping up family dilemmas in 22 minutes. But in 1973, the ABCsitcom featured a surprisingly dark storyline—and one that scared the heck out of some viewers who remember it more than 50 years later.

The episode, “Bobby’s Hero,” originally aired on Feb. 2, 1973, and focused on Bobby’s (Mike Lookinland) newfound obsession with outlaw robber Jesse James. In a dream sequence, the 1980s gangster hijacks a train and shoots the entire Brady clan as Bobby watches alongside him.

While the murder scene is campy with a cartoonish “bang bang” from the killer, it comes after the episode suddenly drops a real murder story into the Brady living room.

Jethroe Collins (Burt Mustin), a man who wrote a book about Jesse James, shows up at the Brady house to tell Bobby that Jesse James murdered his father. Collins explains that the outlaw shot his father in the back during a robbery, and that he was no hero but instead “a mean, dirty killer.”

“My mother used to cry about it in her sleep,” Mustin’s character says in the episode. “And when I was old enough to understand, I used to have nightmares about it myself. Awful nightmares, about that train robbery.”

More than 53 years after “Bobby’s Hero” aired, fans still talk about it on social media platforms.

“This episode used to give me nightmares when I was a little kid. The train scene where they are all shot scared the crap out of me,” one viewer wrote on Reddit.

“I had nightmares about the train scene,” another wrote.

“It is a surprisingly dark moment for a Brady Bunch episode. Bobby’s emotional reaction to his family being ‘killed’ is upsetting.”  a third added.

“That one bothered me because — in it — doesn’t Jesse shoot Mike and Carol?” another wrote.

“I know it sounds silly to say it disturbed me as a kid - but it did,” another added. “Still, pretty dark for a kids’ show?”

Barry Williams, who played eldest Brady brother Greg on The Brady Bunch, detailed the episode in his book Growing Up Brady. Williams noted that if you look closely at Lookinland’s face during the mass murder scene, the young actor looks “genuinely horrified.” Turns out that producer Lloyd Schwartz talked to Lookinland before shooting the scene and “scared the hell out of him” so he could get a genuine reaction of horror for the scene.

Schwartz noted that just before filming, he took Lookinland aside “and proceeded to discuss with him things like having his dog run over, or his parents being shot, lying in the street with blood oozing out of them and maybe their brains splattered on the sidewalk.”

“And I just filled his head with these horrifying, gory images because I wanted him to think about those things while the whole shooting scene was taking place,” Schwartz said in Growing Up Brady. “That's why when you watch the episode you'll see real terror in Bobby's face. The whole thing worked really well, and then I had a debriefing with Michael right after.”

Interestingly, Jesse James wasn’t the original villain choice for the “Bobby’s Hero” episode. On The Real Brady Bros. podcast, Brady Bunch co-star Christopher Knight recalled, “This entire story was originally Bobby having [aircraft hijacker] D.B. Cooper as his hero…It was in the script…and the network wouldn’t go with D.B Cooper because they would be glamorizing him.”

Fleetwood Mac's Rumours came out in 1977, and nearly 50 years later, it's still climbing the Billboard charts. The Grammy-winning album rises across multiple Billboard rankings this week as listeners continue streaming and buying the classic record. 

On the Billboard 200, which ranks the most popular albums and EPs in the United States based on album sales, track-equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming-equivalent albums (SEA), Rumours climbs to No. 24.

The set has now spent an astonishing 696 weeks on the chart, making it one of the longest-running titles in Billboard history. The album also ticks up one spot on the Top Rock Albums chart, climbing to No. 4.

Fleetwood Mac has spent decades racking up hit singles and albums that have stood the test of time. Even now, songs the band released 40 or 50 years ago are still pulling in millions of streams, keeping them a mainstay on Billboard's charts.

Since its February 1977 release, Rumours has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, making it one of the 10 best-selling albums of all time. It also hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 that year, and it’s remained a record fans keep coming back to.

Fleetwood Mac was founded in 1967, but its best-known lineup came together in 1974, when Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined Mick Fleetwood, ChristineMcVie and John McVie. 

Part of what has kept Rumours so compelling is the story behind its creation. While recording the album, the band was falling apart behind the scenes. Stevie and Lindsey had just ended their long-term relationship, Christine and John were getting divorced and Mick’s marriage was crumbling.

All that tension made its way into the songs. Lindsey poured his breakup into the defiant "Go Your Own Way," while Stevie reflected on the relationship from her own perspective in “Dreams.”

That kind of raw honesty helped turn Rumours into more than just a commercial success. It became a defining work of rock music, with Rolling Stone later ranking it No. 7 on its list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time."

Stevie later opened up about just how difficult that period really was. "The best explanation is: try working with your secretary … in a raucous office … and then come home with her at night. See how long you could stand her," she said in a 1977 Rolling Stone profile.

Mick agreed, though he saw the chaos as something that ultimately brought the band closer together.

"We refused to let our feelings derail our commitment to the music, no matter how complicated or intertwined they became ... it was hard to do, but no matter what, we played through the hurt," he wrote in his 2014 memoir, Play On: Now, Then, and Fleetwood Mac.

With so many hair coloring methods available, you may be wondering about two of the trendier options available for root grow-out. Parade spoke with two celebrity hairstylists about the shadow root technique and the root smudge technique to see which is better for women over 50.

Kenna Kennor is a celebrity hairdresser and founder of the Brooklyn salon Kennaland who's worked with stars like Gigi Hadid, Victoria Beckham and more. And Ricky Hodge is an Austin-based celebrity hairstylist who's worked with actors like Jill Wagner, among others.

The two of them break down the differences between root smudging and root shadowing, color concepts which Hodge says "get confused all the time." He adds, "A shadow root and a root smudge are very similar, but the difference is in the intention and the technique."

Each are good options for addressing root growth in a natural-looking way. Kennor tells Parade, "Both of these techniques are really about buying yourself time and ease, not about hiding anything. I have clients who get as much joy out of a 12-week grow-out as they do out of a fresh appointment, and that's the whole point."

Shadow Root vs. Root Smudge: What's the Difference?

Kennor says both techniques help achieve the "same goal of a softer grow-out," but with "different amount of brightness at the top."

He says, "The shadow root goes darker at the root and mimics hair that's already slightly grown out." Conversely, "The root smudge maintains maximum brightness while softening that [grow-out] line."

"A shadow root is when we add a deliberate darker tone at the roots of your highlights," says Kennor. He adds, "It mimics your natural color and creates a lived-in, slightly grown-out effect, which means your grow-out is much more subtle over time."

Hodge says that the technique helps add dimension as well. He says, "It gives the haircut and color more movement ... it makes the grow-out feel intentional."

Root smudge

In comparison, Hodge says a root smudge "is when we take a little bit of color at the root and softly blur it into the lighter pieces," adding that "the goal isn’t to create a dark root, it’s to create a seamless transition. Think of it like blending the edges. No harsh lines."

He says the goal is to create "a soft, lived-in connection between your root and your highlights."

Average cost of these services

"Pricing at salons is so variable and there are a lot of factors, but most glosses seem to sit between $100 and $200," says Kennor. He adds that lower rates usually reflect "a stylist who's growing in their career and building their experience and clientele" while a higher one "usually reflects a veteran who's built a consistent, steady book."

Which Is Better for Gray Coverage?

Kennor says that either technique can be applied on gray hair. "A shadow root can soften how visible the grays are at the root. But a root smudge can serve you just as well, depending on how bright you want your highlights and what you're working toward [with your stylist]."

He adds that these color options can both "pair nicely with a gray blending technique, where the goal is to soften the density of the grays while still letting them show."

But neither technique is perfectly suited for full coverage, says Hodge.

"A shadow root and a root smudge are not really designed as a gray coverage service. Their purpose is more about blending, softening and creating that lived-in transition between your natural hair and your color," he says, adding, "If someone wants full gray coverage, that usually requires a different approach with a color specifically designed for coverage."

Which Technique Is Better for Women Over 50?

Kennor says it's less about age when choosing between the two techniques and more about your lifestyle. "I'd resist choosing based on age, because these two techniques do genuinely different things and age tells me almost nothing about which one suits you," says Kennor. "What tells me everything is how often you can realistically get to the salon and how bright you want to be."

He adds that a shadow root is helpful for those who want to stretch time between color appointments. "That darker root means there's no obvious line arriving in week six," he explains.

But he says if "brightness right up at the root is what you love about your color, and you're happy coming in more regularly, the root smudge protects that."

How Long Does a Shadow Root vs. Root Smudge Last?

"A shadow root can typically last anywhere from eight to 12 weeks, sometimes even longer depending on how fast your hair grows, your natural color and how much contrast you like," says Hodge, adding that the technique helps with a softer grow-out "so you’re not chasing your roots every few weeks."

He adds that a root smudge has a similar eight to 12 week timeline, and that both are about "creating a color that actually lives with you."

Kennor adds that you can help protect the color at home with how you treat your strands. "Every wash takes a little of that toner with it, so the more often you wash, the faster you'll see the tone drift," he says. He recommends using a sulfate-free shampoo, washing with colder water and making sure you're using a heat protectant when styling with hot tools.

Can You Do a Shadow Root or Root Smudge at Home?

Hodge doesn't recommend trying these techniques at home. "That’s not me trying to keep a secret or make hair feel complicated," he says. "It's not just about putting product on the hair. There’s an understanding of hair, chemistry, placement, timing and knowing how that color is going to live and grow out."

He continues, "When you do color at home, you’re taking a chance. And sometimes it works out but when it doesn’t, the fix can be a lot more expensive and a lot more complicated than the original service."

Kennor also recommends working with a stylist for the original service and then spending your energy protecting the color at home.

"The right shampoo, cooler water, heat protection. That's where you'll get your money back," he says. "Get those three things right and you'll get the full eight weeks. Get them wrong, and you're back in my chair at five."

Why Is ‘The Artful Dodger’ Ending?

The decision to end the series after three seasons is a joint decision between the creatives and the streaming companies. After all, the series has performed well for the streamer, considering it is the most-viewed Australian original on Disney+. The story of Jack Dawkins, which is the real name for the titular character, is naturally coming to an end, and it’s time to wrap it up for the fans.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster will return as the leading man, continuing his journey as a thief in Australia. David Thewlis will also return as Fagin, which hints at the outcome of his fate from the end of The Artful Dodger Season 2. Fans will also get to see Lady Belle Fox return, as Maia Mitchell is also confirmed as part of the third season.

When announcing the end, Deadline confirmed that filming will start within the coming months. A release year hasn’t been confirmed yet, but with filming starting up in the coming months, we could have to wait until 2028 for the final season.

Executive producer Jo Porter shared that the season will be “even more ambitious, surprising and unpredictable.”

The second season of the series brought an outbreak, romance, and more medical mysteries for Jack and Belle to solve. Of course, there was a murder mystery to solve as well, as a serial killer was on the loose. However, the big focus was on treating the cholera outbreak. The beginning of the series brought the wild idea that the teenage pickpocket from Oliver Twist could be a surgeon in Australia, but it’s something The Artful Dodger embraced, and that has led to Jack and Belle figuring out that the cholera outbreak was connected to a contaminated water supply.

With Jack and Belle ending up finally together, there was a moment when fans worried he would leave Australia behind. He didn’t, choosing Belle instead! But what about Fagin? Well, he asked Jack to help him fake his death, and that’s exactly what Jack did. Only, Fagin has now been buried alive, and it will be interesting to see how he gets out of that particular situation!

Former All My Children alum Mark Consuelos has been busy developing a return to Pine Valley with his wife, also an AMC alum, Kelly Ripa, for some time now, but now Consuelos has broken his silence and opened up about what rebooting the series means to him.

Since All My Children’s cancellation in 2011, Consuelos and Ripa have been at the helm of trying to bring the beloved daytime legacy back to life. Originally developing a primetime reimagining, entitled Pine Valley, for ABC, the couple is now actively working with their production company Milojo to develop two made-for-TV movies for Lifetime.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Consuelos shared, “It’d be wonderful to give the fans something that they’ve been yearning for so many years.”

The actor is thankful for All My Children for the personal impact it had on his own life, adding, “All My Children gave me my family. I met my wife there. It gave me my start in the business. It gave us so much. It would be a dream to be able to give back.”

Previously, Susan Lucci, who famously played Erica Kane on the series, expressed her interest in revisiting her beloved role in an interview with Ripa for her SiriusXM podcast, and has even met with the films writer to discuss what that would look like.

All My Children was rebooted once before in 2013 on Hulu by production company Prospect Park; however, after just 43 episodes, the series was canceled again.

The series recently returned to streaming in Canada as part of BeondTV’s initiative and partnership with Pluto Canada.

On the series, Consuelos previously portrayed the role of Mateo Santos, taking over the role from its originator Tito Ortiz in 1995 and remaining a pivotal part of All My Children until his exit in 2002. Many Jane Fonda fans love the Academy Award-winning actress for the roles she’s channeled in 9 to 5, Monster-in-Law, Grace and Frankie and more. What Was the Original 1982 Jane Fonda Workout Routine?

The original Jane Fonda workout drew inspiration from the celeb’s best-selling book. The program guides at-home fitness enthusiasts through a 30-minute beginners’ session and a 60-minute advanced class. Each session focuses on low-impact aerobic exercises, ballet-inspired stretching and floor movements that fire up the waist, arms, abs, buttocks and legs. (Get ready for exercises like leg lifts and pelvic thrusts that deliver a lactic acid burn!)

The goal of Fonda’s workout is for women to build flexibility, functional strength and endurance. The Reality Check: Is Jane Fonda's '80s Workout Hard?

Real talk: Jane Fonda’s workout honestly kicked my butt—and it gives new meaning to “feel the burn.” I was surprised by how challenging it was for an at-home routine.

My usual workouts aren’t focused on aerobics and high-energy cardio; instead, I perform Pilates, brisk walking and leisurely bike rides. I genuinely enjoy moving at my own pace and taking rest breaks when needed, as it makes my overall routine more sustainable. Fonda’s aerobic workout was a major contrast, but in a new and exciting way.

Instead of weaving in traditional rest periods, Fonda keeps things moving in a smooth, continuous fashion with bouts of active recovery, like stretching and mat work. After wrapping up my first few beginner sessions, I was definitely out of breath—but also determined to crush the following ones so I could eventually try Fonda’s advanced version during week two.

The session addresses the same body parts as the beginner version but features a quicker pace and more challenging moves and stretches, like bouncing downward dog with pedaling feet (tendon stretch) and bouncing lunges.

Vintage VHS vs. Modern Fitness Apps: How It Compares

Since I work from home, finding workouts that mesh well with my schedule and provide an invigorating escape from the daily grind is key. They need to be engaging, effective and sustainable, which is why I loved Fonda’s aerobic workout. It brought the 1982 VHS tape vibes back to life and made me feel incredibly nostalgic about leg warmers, leotards and streaming VHS tapes in my childhood.

I’ve tested a wide variety of fitness apps, but there’s something truly special about Fonda’s workouts. Her instruction is timeless in a way that simply cannot be recreated. Each time I streamed Fonda’s class, it felt personal and motivating, almost like I was right there with her in the studio. I would take that over an AI coach any day.

Of course, if you’re training for a specific goal or upcoming race, your needs may be more niche. But for me, Fonda’s aerobic routine is the perfect way to get my body moving at home. It makes me feel like I’m getting a solid workout in while still being completely fun.

The Final Verdict: Does the 'Feel the Burn' Method Still Work?

It’s safe to say the “feel the burn” method is still effective today—and it’s clear why Fonda’s workout became a best-selling home video. 

After starting her workouts, I felt motivated to stay on a roll with them and establish other healthy habits in my routine, including drinking more water, snacking less and eating more nutritious meals.

I genuinely felt the burn—and results—in my arms, abs, legs and glutes and was more energized to take on each day. This is why Fonda’s aerobics are still a key part of my morning routine.

When Linda Ronstadt and the Eagles' Glenn Frey were driving through Los Angeles in the late 1970s, long before either was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Frey’s custom cassette tapes provided the soundtrack.

As the Eagles co-founder slipped a cassette tape into the car stereo, one particular track caught Ronstadt completely off guard: Chuck Berry’s 1959 rock-and-roll classic, "Back in the U.S.A."

According to Rhino Records, Ronstadt was floored by the song's energy. She reportedly turned to Frey and declared, "Boy, that would be a great song to sing."

Ronstadt said in the book To the Limit: The Untold Story of the Eagles, "We used to sit around the Troubadour bar and go: 'Oh, it's so horrible, and I can't get a record deal.' We were so broke and so miserable, and we'd feel so sorry for ourselves, and we were so precious about it."

She continued, "Then all of a sudden I looked at him, and I went: 'Boy, life's really tough. We're going off to ski [at Aspen] with all this money in our pockets, we're going to have a good time, and we've got great music on the tape player.'"

Ronstadt concluded, "Just then, 'Back in the U.S.A.' came on and I went: 'Boy, that would be a great song to sing. I think I'll do that one.'"

Frey encouraged her to go for it, and Ronstadt took the idea straight into the studio. The result was a powerhouse cover that served as the lead single for her 1978 multi-platinum album Living in the USA.

Nearly two decades after the song's release, Ronstadt's version of the Berry tune was back on the Billboard charts. "Back in the U.S.A" was released in August 1978 and peaked at No. 16 two months later.

Following "Back in the U.S.A," the LP's second release, another cover, the Smokey Robinson classic "Ooh Baby Baby," reached No. 7 in January 1979. The album also contained songs by Elvis Costello ("Alison") and covers of Little Feat's "All That You Dream", Warren Zevon's "Mohammed's Radio," and Elvis Presley's "Love Me Tender."

Despite all her success, Ronstadt preferred to live a quiet life. She told Arizona Central in 2018 that she thought being a rock star was "silly. I really was interested in the music. I didn’t go out to a lot of things."

She added, "I went to work, then I came home and took time off. Then I went back to work again. It’s very different now with all the social media and everything like that. I was lucky then because I could hide. I could live a very quiet life."

Living in the USA was Ronstadt's ninth LP. It was recorded at Hollywood's Sound Factory studios. The powerhouse cover proved once again that nobody could breathe new life into a classic quite like the rock queen.

Mott the Hoople found themselves in a predicament during their 1972 tour, which led to the creation of one of their popular tracks, "All the Way from Memphis," that became a radio favorite.

The English band had already gotten a taste of fame when they released their signature track "All the Young Dudes" in 1972. That same year, the band was on tour throughout the US and scheduled to perform their final concert in Memphis. In the days leading up to the performance, Ian Hunter would pen a track inspired by real-life events involving a missing guitar.

According to Medium, the band decided to split up when it came to travelling to their show in Memphis, Tennessee. Guitarist Mick Ralphs and keyboardist Verden Allen decided to hit the road and drive the rest of the way. The rest of the band members instead took a flight to their last gig, and Ralphs' guitar would end up on a train to Oriole, Kentucky. It would be almost a month before the guitarist would get his instrument back.

That wasn't all. At the time, further chaos ensued when it was reported that Ralphs' hotel room had also been broken into, and the band learned that ticket sales for the concert were dismal.

“I’d written ’Memphis’and it was complete, and the band had recorded it but there were still no words, no words whatsoever,” Hunter told Songwriting magazine. “I was there for weeks, the old cassette player by the bed and I couldn’t find a thing, and eventually I hit on a gig we’d done in Memphis where they rang us up and said, ‘Nobody’s going to the gig.’

“What had happened was the turnstiles had broken down and there were 3,000 people trying to get in and they couldn’t get in. All in all, it was Christmas too, and it was a magical night, it really was. So I managed to get the song out of that. But it just shows they don’t always come, the words and music together — sometimes you get stuck with either the words or the music.”

According to SongFacts, Hunter penned the track the very day of the concert and dedicated it to their crew, photographer/ music manager Leee Childer, Tony Zanetta, and Memphis.

The lyrics for "All Way from Memphis" mimic the real-life story of a musician getting halfway to Memphis before realizing he's missing his guitar. After getting it back a month later, he's scolded by a stranger for being neglectful. A deep dive into the track reveals the lyrics are about the weariness of a rocker's lifestyle, the constant touring, and people's perception of them.

"All Way from Memphis" was released as the lead track of the band's Mott album in late August, but failed to enter the charts when it was released as a single. Regardless, it still got considerable radio airplay alongside the rest of the album, which charted at No. 35 on the Billboard 200.

The Challenge is heading somewhere completely new for season 42.

Premiering Wednesday, Aug. 5 on Paramount+, The Challenge: Cutthroat was filmed entirely in Thailand, giving contestants a dramatic backdrop for one of the franchise's biggest format changes in years. Season 42 was filmed across Thailand, with production taking place in Bangkok, Pattaya and locations throughout the Chon Buri Province. According to Thailand's Tourism Authority, the season showcases everything from bustling city streets to coastal scenery and outdoor landscapes as competitors face the show's signature challenges.

Executive producer Justin Booth said Thailand offered exactly the kind of setting the series was looking for.

"Going into season 42, we wanted to showcase not only the competition fans know and love, but also the incredible sense of place that Thailand brings to the series."

Booth added that Bangkok's energy and the coastal landscapes of Pattaya and Chon Buri elevated every aspect of the competition.

Host T.J. Lavin echoed those comments, saying Thailand created "some of the most intense and exciting moments we've ever captured."

"The scenery, scale, and sense of adventure elevated every challenge, and I think fans are going to be blown away by what they see this season."

Why Thailand?

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the partnership was designed to introduce international audiences to the country's cities, beaches and outdoor destinations while highlighting Thailand as a filming destination for major productions. The season incorporates urban environments, coastal views and natural landscapes into many of its competitions, making the location an integral part of the new season rather than simply a backdrop.

The new season also marks the return of the three-team "Cutthroat" format, inspired by the original 2010 season, as competitors fight for a share of the $500,000 grand prize beginning Aug. 5 on Paramount+. In fact, two of the original Cutthroat competitors are back for Return to Cutthroat—Brad Fiorenza, whose team won, and Cara Maria Sorbello, whose team came in second place.

The Challenge: Cutthroat season 42 premieres Wednesday, August 5 at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT on Paramount+ with two back-to-back episodes. Subsequent new episodes drop every Wednesday at the same time.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park has an exciting addition. Bakari, a young silverback western lowland gorilla, has been tapped into his new role as the leader of the family troop. He’s moved into the park’s Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, a lush attraction where guests can spot wildlife in their natural habitats, as part of a conservation program aimed at maintaining genetically diverse gorilla populations.

The addition comes after the passing of beloved Gino, the park’s oldest gorilla and leader since its opening in 1998. Known for his playful spirit, he touched countless lives of guests and Cast Members during his time. He was also one of the first gorillas in the world to allow caretakers to perform cardiac ultrasounds with anesthesia, providing a more accurate reading of his heart health.

The troop’s leader plays an important role in protecting the family and maintaining a cohesive dynamic. And the addition of Bakari marks an exciting new chapter.

“Bringing Bakari here is bittersweet because it means we’ve said goodbye to Gino, who was our silverback for almost 30 years since the park’s opening,” shared Rachel, animal care manager with Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment, in a press release. “But it’s also incredibly exciting. Bakari is the future of this family troop, and we’re looking forward to watching him grow into that role and hopefully help welcome new generations of gorillas for years to come.”

To get settled, animal care experts have carefully introduced the gorilla in a multi-step process that allows them to build positive social relationships. The introduction happens gradually as they adjust to the new dynamic. Experts have already noted his calm and easygoing demeanor.

“This is all very new for Bakari,” explained Rachel. “Our goal is to help him feel comfortable and confident at every stage. We take the process slowly because building those social relationships with the females is incredibly important.”

Every step of the way, the park’s animal care teams are on hands to observe and lend their expertise. It is supported by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Special Survival Plan, which “helps maintain strong, genetically diverse populations of western lowland gorillas in managed care.” The pairing of Bakari with females helps strengthen the long-term future of the population, ensuring future generations can connect with the critically endangered species.

Michigan health officials have confirmed two deaths linked to the summer’s Cyclospora infections, which have been linked to iceberg lettuce. The CDC and the FDA are working with health officials in multiple states to get to the bottom of the outbreak.

On Aug. 3, 2026, Michigan officials confirmed that two people have died from the parasite, and the CDC says it will update its website once laboratory tests have come through. The summer’s Cyclospora outbreak has affected 45 states, and there have been 18,000 cases reported. The CDC’s website has nine states listed, but it also only has 1,947 cases, as that is what has been confirmed by the organization. The CDC is currently testing and confirming other reports.

When you look at the CDC website as of Aug. 4, 2026, you’ll notice that the death count still sits at zero. This is because the agency needs to check the laboratory results first, and there is a notice on the website about that. The CDC is aware of Michigan health officials’ statements.

The two patients who have sadly died had underlying health conditions, although the exact conditions were not announced due to regulations and privacy. These health conditions were worsened due to severe dehydration and by the infection, the public health officials have stated. Other patients are still being monitored, and there is still a call to look out for any signs of the infection.

The federal agencies were quickly able to track down the initial source of the paradise, which came from shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms in central Mexico. That lettuce was served in fast-food chains, with Taco Bell being specifically mentioned, and since then, there have been voluntary recalls.

The CDC has said that Cyclospora listeria is rarely deadly. It’s important to reinstate that the two deaths linked to this had underlying health conditions. Those with symptoms, which include severe watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, and fatigue, should seek medical attention, especially if they have other health problems.

Symptoms usually begin around a week after eating contaminated food. For some, symptoms will only last a few days, but for others, the symptoms can continue for a month. Even if you have thrown out the contaminated lettuce, all surfaces need to be disinfected.
